Research Paper On Hispaniola
The total amount of islands, including islets, coral reefs and cays is about seven thousand, including a
majority of the area known as The Antilles. Of those islands, the four largest among them include the
island nations of Cuba, Jamaica, Hispaniola (composed of the countries Haiti and the Dominican
Republic) and Puerto Rico. Cuba is the 16th largest island by land area and is the largest island of the
Caribbean. Its coastline is about 3,735 km (1.86 miles) and a total of 110,860 km (42, 803 square
miles) of land and sea. Its horizontal width is 1202 km (747 miles) and its vertical length is 80 km (50
miles). Cuba s land is flat, flowing gradually into hills and its coastlines are mostly mountainous. The
country has about 200 small rivers as well as narrow streams that run dry during the summer. As for
vegetation, Cuba s forests only cover about ten percent of the island and most of its ecoregion has
been converted into a savannah. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The former occupies one third of the island while the latter controls the balance of land. According to
Christopher Columbus, he declared Hispaniola as the most beautiful island in the world. As a whole,
Hispaniola consists primarily of pine trees. The Dominican Republic has four significant mountain
ranges, including the Pico Duarte the country s highest point and the highest of the Caribbean. The
lowlands of the Dominican Republic are exceptionally dry with very little plant growth.
Coincidentally, Haiti is a mountainous land dominated by three mountain ranges and is dependent on
its agricultural farms. However due to natural disasters such as the 2010 earthquake and 2008
hurricanes, Haiti faces multiple environmental concerns. These environmental include deforestation
for agriculture, soil erosion and scarce supplies of

The Qualities And Traits Of Leaders Essay
2 The qualities and traits of leaders
A number of leadership traits almost come directly from within. These are the qualities that might be
harder to train, but which make leading other people smoother.
Committed
A good leader has to show commitment. Fulfilling your vision won t happen overnight and you need
to be able to convince everyone else that you won t disappear when things get tough. If you make a
promise, you need to keep it. You can t just preach about achieving A, B and C, but you need to show
that you are actually going to do it.
Commitment matters for two reasons. First, when you show commitment you help build trust. The
team and anyone involved with the project will be able to trust your word. Trust will keep work
morale up and help you achieve objectives faster since people don t need to second guess what your
objectives are. But furthermore, the second aspect of commitment is about setting an example. As
mentioned throughout the article, leadership is about setting an example and if you show commitment
to your word, your subordinates will be inspired to stick to their promises. Using your own example of
hard work, you will ensure the people around you feel motivated to do the same thing.
Passionate
Passion should be at the heart of everything you do. It doesn t matter whether you are a leader of a
multibillion company or a lumberjack, without passion, you won t achieve success. You can
understand its importance when you view it as the fuel to your truck.

Povertyin the World
Poverty evokes various definitions depending on the audience and perhaps the purpose or context that
it is used. Limiting the definition of poverty to a value judgment is of little use in terms of agreeing on
a definition for the purpose of comparison and measurement between groups (Sen 1979, p.285). A
clear definition of poverty supports and indicates the process for measurement, and as such would also
assist in determining the focus and approach for development (Clark 2012; Ruggeri, Saith Stewart
2006, p.19). In reviewing Oxfam Australia s (Oxfam) Close the Gap campaign, it is necessary to
identify the approach that is taken in defining poverty in order to gauge the scope of the project, the
development of the approach used, and to quantify the change that occurs.
Oxfam itself has identified Close the Gap as a human rights campaign that aims to close the life
expectancy health gap of 10 17 years for Aboriginal and Torres Strait within a generation (Holland
2014, p.46). Vizard in her exploration of Sen s capability approach (2005, p.24), emphasises the
marriage of capabilities with human rights, citing poverty as one of the key exclusions to fundamental
freedoms and human rights, thus expanding the definition of poverty into a multidimensional one.
Health is one of the dimensions included in the rights approach, which suggests that the abuses of
human rights result in poverty and are also a result of poverty (OHCHR 2006, p.16). Along with a
multidimensional

Theories Of Secularization
The Secularization Debates Early theories of secularization had originated in order to make note of the
transfer of religious properties to the state. In this way, secularization was initially conceived as a
means of labelling the transfer of things from the religious sphere of the European monastery to the
non monastic saeculum, or, secular sphere. This theory was subsumed into theories of modernization
in order to argue that as the social differentiation of societies on the path to modernization increased,
so too would the secularization of these societies.
However, American socio religious development seemed to fly in the face of these early theories and
this traditional paradigm, as several periods of modernization in the United ... Show more content on

Finke and Stark begin by explaining how religion was initially viewed as an epiphenomenon
(Finke/Stark 96). In their words, it was thought of as an elaborate reflection of more basic realities
(96). The pair reference early Berger s imagery to explain how the sacred canopy notion meant that
religious thought was viewed with unquestioned authority and plausibility (97).
From this contextualizing explanation, they move to explain the predominant theories of
modernization, which posit secularization as inevitable. This old paradigm has been forced to adjust in
the face of material facts, like the correlation of industrialization and religiosity in late nineteenth and
early twentieth century America. Consequently, the more simplistic notion of secularization as tied to
de institutionalization has been weakened. This allows Finke and Stark to expand on the new
paradigm of religion, which does away with the notion of religion as epiphenomenological, and argues
that religious doctrines themselves can have consequences, (100). Finke and Stark s theory is largely
centered on a refocusing of dominant religious thought, to consider the factors and incentives by
which the supply of religion is altered. Within the notion of a religious economy, the pair put forth a
variety of propositions.
The first proposition is that a religious

A Comparison Of Wildfires And The Santa Ana Winds
Wildfires and the Santa Ana winds are harsh realities of life in California. Brush Fire and The Santa
Ana are pieces that touch upon this pertinent topic. Arguing that the toll taken on civilization in
California by annual wild fires is the fault of the humans affected is California native Linda Thomas.
In contrast, Joan Didion, also a California born author, portrays wild fires and Santa Ana winds as evil
forces that destroy all in their path. Despite these authors diverging perspectives, their pieces intersect
in regards to the basic rhetorical strategies employed. Thomas introduction is written from a personal
perspective, describing how [she] awoke to air so dry that the graze of [her] nightgown against the
down comforter created tiny orange sparks, how [she has] a roaring sinus headache, and how [she
finds herself] beneath a smoky sky the color of fire. Written in the first person, these descriptions
place the audience into the author s shoes creating a bond between each reader and the author;
consequently, the reader has a significant level of trust in the author s ideas. Secondly, Thomas
introduction artfully orients her audience before delving into the main portion of her writing. Words
and phrases such as tiny orange sparks, roaring, and smokey immediately create the image of a fire in
the reader s mind. The Santa Ana begins rhetorically similar to Brush Fire, but there are numerous
aspects of Didion s introduction that differentiate it

What Is Macarthur s Last Speech
General MacArthur was station on the Philippine islands during the start of WWII. He commanded all
of the U.S troops on the island and had his command center stationed on Corregidor (Biography.com,
2012). On this island he watched as the Japanese army invaded the Philippines. Outnumbered and
outgunned, MacArthur was forced to retreat to Australia. When he arrived in Australia he made his I
shall return speech. In this speech he promised that he would return to the Philippines and force the
Japanese off the islands. After a couple of years he finally gained enough troops to return to the
Philippines. Once he was on the island he gave his I have returned speech (Breuer, 2001). Reasons for
Going Back The general consensus is that MacArthur went back because of his father s past, his
personal ego, or because of his national duty. Many biographers or historians can agree that he went
back for at least one of these reasons. Geoffrey Perret said MacArthur saw his return to the Philippines
as a way of redeeming American national pride and honor. And his own pride and honor (PBS, 2012).
If this is true then we must ask ourselves why MacArthur s first speech back on the island was
directed at the Philippines. The first reason ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Americans morale was low because of the attack on Pearl Harbor. This was also the biggest army
America has ever surrendered to another country (Biography.com, 2012). This hit every American and
especially the General. On top of this the Japanese did not take too kindly to prisoners. This led to the
famous Bataan death march, where thousands of American POWs were tortured and killed by the
Japanese army. An example was in the book Ghost Soldiers. In this book it describes an event where
the American POWs were led into air raid shelters and then burned alive by the Japanese (Sides,
2001). MacArthur would have heard about this and all he could do was wait till he had

Coastguard Search And Rescue (SAR)
Search and Rescue (SAR) is one of the Coast Guards oldest missions. Minimizing the loss of life,
injury, property damage or loss by rendering aid to persons in distress has always been one of the
Coast Guards top priorities. On the early morning of November 16, 2017 around 8:45 AM, Coast
Guard Station Washington overheard a terrifying event taking place on their local channel 17 radio.
There was a forty foot pleasure craft vessel on fire with two people on board, along with eight other
people in the water occurring in the mouth of the Washington channel by Haines Point. A crew of five
experienced Boat Crew members worked quickly to get underway on their 29 foot small response
boat. Once underway and on scene at 9:00 AM there were already other multiple government agencies
responding. The Coxswain, BM3 Westoby was surveying the scene and noticed Fire boat 201 was

fighting the fire. Once fire boat 201 finished fighting the fire and no longer needed any coast guard
assistance, the crew of the 29 foot RBS got permission to return to base. Once asked about what went
on in your head when you heard what you needed to get underway for? BM3 Westoby stated My first
thought was to respond as fast and safely as possible by limiting the person s time in the 49 degree
water . There were many agencies on scene to do one thing and that was to mitigate the situation , said
BM3 Westoby. Together we all flawlessly did just that and were able to have all survivors go home

Case Study Examination And Ethical Questions
Case Study Examination and Ethical Questions Fraud in financial statements is one of the most
common types of financial fraud committed by organizations. Tactics are utilized to inflate or deflate
revenues and expenses to arrive at the desired financial position of executives of the business. Fraud,
however, is not something derived from years of experience. As is the case of ZZZZ Best, the
perpetrator of fraud in the case of this organization was its 15 year old owner, Barry Minkow.
Case Study: ZZZZ Best
Mr. Minkow started his carpet cleaning business at a young age of 15 years. He held aspirations of
becoming a millionaire. Such aspirations led to Mr. Minkow masterminding a level of corporate fraud
that propelled him to being labeled a wonder boy on Wall Street and the lavish lifestyle he craved
(Mintz Morris, 2014). Mr. Minkow was so successful in concealing his fraud, auditors failed to detect
them when reviewing financial statements. That is until one individual, a former customer, unraveled
his years of deception.
The ZZZZ Best case was such that management set out to conceal the fraud from the Securities and
Exchange Commission, their clients and investors, and the auditors engaged to conduct the audits of
their public financial statements. The foremost question is, should said auditors be held accountable
for their failures in cases where management goes to excessive lengths to purposely conceal such
fraudulent activities from the auditors. The

Famous Speeches Of The Great Awakening
Jessica Gebert Famous Speeches Final Paper The first known recordings of eulogistic discourse
emerged from the ancient Greek tradition, where the funeral speech developed out of the formal
laudation or commemoration of those who had fallen in battle for their country. Some of the best
examples of this type of eulogistic rhetoric include Cicero s de Orator and Pericles Funeral oration.
Stylistically the structure of these orations typically concentrated heavily on the mourning of the
deceased and then transitioned into the celebration of their life. (Kent, 2007). While the traditional
Greek structure lasted many decades, as early as the 1700 s a shift in style of funeral orations began to
emerge. Many attribute this stylistic change to the Great Awakening as new Protestant sects began
incorporating more expressive and ceremonial approaches to their memorials. As funerals became
increasingly extravagant spectacles, funeral sermons began to incorporate biography, praise, and
emotional expression developments that laid a foundation for the popularization of the eulogy genre.
(Henderson, 2011) In Owen Peterson s volume of Representative American Speeches, he notes, A
eulogy has two distinctive characteristics which sets it apart from most other forms of public address:
(1) it is meant to be delivered at a ceremonial occasion to honor the subject; and (2) it is designed to
be heard by an audience that already shares the speaker s respect, affection, or admiration for

Surviving The Wilderness

you have to make sure you can survive them before you go in the wilderness. Animals that survive the
wilderness are strong, smart, and know how to protect themselves. Other animals don t survive when
going into the wilderness because they don t have the natural instincts to do so.
The wilderness is hard to adapt to for some dogs because they are used to the human world and not the

Perennial Wisdom Healing Grace For Personal And...
Shamanism Today: Perennial Wisdom Healing Grace for Personal Planetary Evolution.
By Oscar Miro Quesada, M.A., Psy. ET.
Today s shaman leaves new footprints on paths of psychic awareness and spiritual wisdom that are
over thirty thousand years old. Shamanism is a millennial tradition of healing, power and wisdom that
sees all of life as interconnected and sacred. Material and spiritual worlds interpenetrate one another,
and the shaman s path lies in attaining a life of harmony with both. The process of shamanic
awakening is as vast as the universe itself. It excludes no one, and yet includes only those willing to
surrender a limited sense of self. One must live it to understand it.
In the shamanic world view, mind and body are inseparable. There is no distinction perceived between
physical, psychological, spiritual an social ills. Even life an death are not seen as separate conditions.
Healing in a native sense means making a person whole by restoring the health of the body, mind,
spirit and community. Tribal shamanic societies believe that we are part of the universe and must be in
balance with all of Mother Earth and Father Sky in gratitude to Great Spirit. The have much to teach
us today.
Twelve Core Principles
The magic and power of shamanism is grounded in a set of values and perceptions that extend beyond
what we usually consider reality. Shamanic tradition clearly understands that two worlds exist: the
Seen and the Unseen. Both are equally real All

Control Bacterial Growth Lab Report
Being able to control bacterial growth is something that is important in our everyday lives. As shown
in the previous labs, bacteria can grow and create colonies extremely quickly especially in the right
environments. By acknowledging this, it is then important to get an understanding of how bacterial
growth can be controlled by humans. To control microorganisms it means to inhibit their growth
(static) and or kill them (cidal) (Kenneth Todar, 2015); therefore since focusing on bacteria the terms
bactericidal and bacteriostatic are both extremely important for this lab. One broad method we will
use to control bacterial growth is heat. The amount of heat needed to control bacterial growth is
different for different species of bacteria (Kenneth Todar, 2015). Bacteria can also respond differently
depending if moist heating method such as an autoclave with steam is used, or a dry heating method
such as inoculating a loop over a fire is used (Kenneth Todar, 2015). UV works by damaging the cells
DNA, without proper DNA, the cells will die and the object ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It is important to keep in mind that Thermal Death Point can be defined as trying to kill bacteria in a
given time, which is ten minutes, using the lowest possible temperature (Kenneth Todar, 2015). The
Thermal Death Time on the other hand is when you are given a specific temperature and try to figure
out the minimum time it take to kill all the bacteria (Kenneth Todar, 2015). During the temperature
portion of the lab, it is expected that at a given temperature there is less bacteria in the sample the
longer it is incubated. Also, for the UV exposure, the half of the agar plate that received exposure
should have fewer bacteria than the side that did not have any exposure. These two methods are
important not only to this laboratory, but also used in medical facilities as well as laboratories

Women Access Information On Legal Abortions
Literature review
In an ultra Catholic country, how do Irish women access information on legal abortions in the wake of
the Miss X case in 1992?
Introduction
In this literature review I will aim to provide an insight into how women in 21st century Ireland get
access to information on safe, legal abortions in other EU member states. It is a review on previous
literature that assesses the situations and circumstances that led to information on travel and abortion
services becoming accessible to Irish women from 1995 in an amendment to the eighth amendment
section 40.3.3 as a result of X v. Attorney General (1992).
In this paper, I will aim to discuss the history of abortion services, and access to information from the
early 1980 s through to the current social movement in Ireland Repeal the 8th , and how this relates to
the overall literature review topic of The Spectatorship of Suffering . The first section of this review
contains of an outline of Ireland s constitutionally engrained protection of foetal rights and the way in
which this was upset with the Supreme Court s decision in the Miss X case (1992), because the Court
adopted the language of proper candidates for abortions. The second part aims to outline how
government efforts to reach a balance between pro life and pro choice beliefs and the uncertainty this
created in the legal status of abortion in Ireland. I will also hope to show how the judicial analysis of

Conflict Theory In American History X
American History X The film, American History X, is about two brothers, Derek and Danny, who fall
victim to their social environment in Venice Beach. A community that was once predominately white
becomes overrun by violence with the ever growing presence of blacks, minorities and illegal
immigrants. This opens the door to the boy s racist mentality, while their father Dennis is then
murdered doing his job as a fireman by a black man in a drive by shooting. Derek s hatred towards
blacks grew from this incident and was later fueled by the influence of Cameron, the leader of a white
supremacy group. Derek eventually commits a hate crime and is sentenced to serve three years in
prison for the murder of two black men. While in prison Derek suffers the hardships of prison life and
the betrayal of his own kind . He then realizes his hatred towards blacks was initiated and controlled
by others and not what he truly wanted to identify with and vowed to change his ways. Then once he

The unfair treatment between their social classes is so unbelievable that Derek thought Lamont had to

Mirandas demands for a year Andy can only hope she will score a job as a reporter or writer else

definitely see that she struggles a lot. Andy walking in had no sense of style, had no knowledge of
what Runway Magazine was, and also had no idea that many people had wanted her position at this
company. In fact the first day that Andy arrives at runway magazines home office she is absolutely
appalled. Emily Charlton, Miranda s Senior assistant was supposed to interview Andy, but

Collectivism In Anthem To The Fountainhead, By Ayn Rand
Collectivism is a very common theme in Ayn Rand s writing. From Anthem to The Fountainhead, her
opinion is very clear: individualism is the source of freedom and joy, while collectivism is the root of
sorrow and slavery. In Anthem, the main character, Equality 7 252, has grown up in a collectivist
society that has remained strong for centuries. In that society, no one has had the choice to do what
they want to do, love what (or who) they love, and simply be who they are. That society praises the
idea that men live only for each other. Living for oneself is evil, a Transgression. The idea of I , Me ,
and Mine has disappeared, dragging the precious words along with it. Throughout the plot, Equality 7
2521 is seen both unintentionally and intentionally defying his society. At first, he condemns himself,
describing his evil acts and mind and labeling his different mindset as a curse. We were born with a
curse. It has always driven us to thoughts which are forbidden. (Rand 18) He is also condemned by
others, for things he cannot control. He is taller than most other people, he has preferences for what he
wishes to become, and he has ideas and opinions. Yet when his life assignment is Street Sweeper, he
rejoices. He sees that as a way to pay penance for his sins. Later on, however, he embraces his
individuality. I am. I think. I will. (Rand 94) He is the first to accept the idea of individuality for
centuries, and helps others accept it, too. A similar struggle is seen in The Fountainhead. The main
character of that novel, . Howard Roark, has to defend himself in court after dynamiting a government
housing project that he designed. An agreement was made that the project would be built exactly as
designed, but it wasn t, so Roark made a protest against collectivism by destroying the project. He
ends up in court. He then delivers a moving speech titled The Soul of an Individualist . In it he
proclaims his individualism, and denounces collectivism as a parasitic system in which no one can
achieve anything or truly live. I came here to say that I do not recognize anyone s right to one minute
of my life. Nor to any part of my energy. Nor to any achievement of mine. No matter who makes the
claim, how large

Federal Law And Government Policy
Law and government policy is instilled in order to maintain the rights of employers as well as, their

organization; first, there is Home Depot, which has the right to modify employee work terms for
legitimate business reasons. Second, there is the employee, who has the right of protection from
harmful business practices, and lastly, there is the government of Canada, which balances both
employee and Home Depot relations. (Dessler, Chhinzer Cole, 2013, 27). Provincial and federal

If there are no provincial counterparts to federal statutes than those federal statutes are also in effect
provincially. The following federal statutes apply to both federal and provincial organizations; The
Canadian Pension Plan, which provides qualifying employees with pensions on retirement and
permanent disability, applies to Home Depot. Moreover, Employment Insurance Act provides
qualifying employees with income replacement during periods of temporary unemployment. (E Laws,
2014) Because CPP and EI are both federally and provincially regulated, Home Depot must abide by
these legislations.
The Constitutional Law
For Home Depot this includes abiding by the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. The Charter protects
the following rights of every Canadian, Freedom of conscience and religion, freedom of thought,
belief, opinion, and expression, including freedom of the press and other media of communication,
freedom of peaceful assembly and freedom of association. (Dessler et al., 2013, 29). Even though, the
regulations in the Charter are not employment specific, Home Depot must accept the laws set forth
because the laws protect rights to all Canadian citizens. In addition, this constitutional law takes
precedence over all other laws. Thus, Home Depot must conduct their business in total compliance
with the laws of the Charter. (Dessler et al., 2013, 29) This means the Charter impacts Home Depot s
code of ethics, policy, and employment contract because

Ethical and Religious Article Reviews
Seow, C. L. Homosexuality and Christian Community. Louisville, Ky: Westminster John Knox Press,
1996.
In his article Relations Natural and Unnatural, Richard B. Hays states that after deciding what Paul
thought concerning homosexuality, we should still decide how to construe the authority of his opinion
in the present time. There are many open questions about how the bible functions as an authority for
normative ethical judgments. We cannot ease ourselves of the obligation for moral decision by
engaging to the plain sense of single proof text, but on the flip side, should we feel constrained to
pressure Paul, through exegetical scowls, to verbalize what we cerebrate he ought to have verbalized.
We must let the text have its verbally express, and then we must choose what obedience to God
requires. Also the article express how the heated debate triggers questions that are concerning the
possible misuse of the biblical teachings as in the edifications that are used in later historical settings.

The John Brown And The Pottawatomie Massacre
On May 24, 1856, John Brown and his small army of men raided Lawrence, Kansas, killing five
unsuspecting civilians. The attack ended in the capture and hanging of Brown, as the action was seen
as treasonous. Since this event, debate has incessantly surrounded the figure due to the violence and
morality of the situation. Despite the lives lost, John Brown was a hero because of the reasoning of the
raid and the lack of alternative options.
The event, known as the Pottawatomie Massacre, is one of honorableness since it was enacted to
promote the liberty of the real victims of the time, the slaves. To only acknowledge the five civilians
as the targets would be to ignore the history of deaths in the slave community and the then current 3.2

Superficial Thrombophlebothrombois
As it was defined in Oxford Concise Medical Dictionary, phlebothrombosis is an obstruction of a vein
by a blood clot, without preceding inflammation of its wall. It is most common within the deep veins
of the calf of the leg deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in contrast to thrombophlebitis, which affects
superficial leg veins. Prolonged immobility, heart failure, pregnancy, injury, and surgery predispose to
thrombosis by encouraging sluggish blood flow. Many of these conditions are associated with changes
in the clotting factors in the blood that increase the tendency to thrombosis; these changes also occur
in some women taking oral contraceptives. The affected leg may become swollen and tender. The
main danger is that the clot may become detached and give rise to pulmonary ... Show more content

IVoltage source inverters (VSIā€™s) are widely used in...
IVoltage source inverters (VSI s) are widely used in electric drive applications. Generally inverters
contain certain amount of harmonics in the output. Inverters quality is expressed with the help of
parameters of performance. Parameters like lower order harmonics (LOH), total harmonic distortion
(THD) Distortion Factor basically plays a vital role on the performance of an inverter. Harmonics give
undesirable effects the following undesirable effects [1] [2. Ill effects of harmonics are A. Poor
Quality Supply As all power electronic converters generate harmonic currents, which will be injected
into the utility, causing distortion of the supply waveform.
B. Malfunctioning of Relays Due to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So harmonics directly effect the system performance. For performance improvement of an inverter it
is desirable to eliminate harmonics. IEEE 519 Standard gives maximum allowable limits for voltage
and current distortions [3].
VSI gives less qualitative outputs with conventional voltage control techniques Output voltage of an
inverter can also be varied by controlling on off periods of its switches. This is the most popular and
efficient method for controlling inverter output voltage.
2.4 Pulse Width Modulation in VSI s
Output Voltage of the Inverter can be modified or controlled by controlling or modifying switching
current, or in case of Power Switches, by controlling or modifying Gate current. This control is
achieved by PWM control. In one of the methods of controlling inverter output voltage, a fixed DC
voltage is given to the inverter and by varying the ON and OFF time of power switches we get a
controlled or modified AC output voltage. This method is popularly called as Pulse Width Modulation
(PWM) method. The features of PWM inverter can be summarized as follows
Filter size can be smaller compared to the filter used with square wave inverter
The inverter has constant dc link voltage and it uses PWM principles for voltage control.
The output voltage waveform improves with respect to harmonic content

What it is
It is among the earliest and oldest sports played in America. It specifically originated in Central
America with the Mexicans in the Southern part of Mexico. Different towns thrived in this game
which was to them more than a sport. It was both a sport, a religious activity and it was also political.
It was also social because it brought the people in towns together.
The sport part of Mesoamerican ballgame involved getting a ball made of rubber into one among
many rings. The ball was solid and would weigh up to three kilograms. While playing to put the ball
through a ring, players were not to use their hands but were to use their thighs, shoulders, elbows and
even knees to pass this ball. The game was only played by men. It was significantly played by

They could be as many as twenty in a town. It is said that Mesoamerica had up to thirteen hundred ball
courts. They were built inside with walls that were either bent towards the centre or vertical. There
was an enclosing in the courts where the player only played. This is because as was in the ancient
days, the sport was observed as a matter of life and death for the winner and losers. The ball courts
were built mythically orienting themselves to the North and South of the compass.
The ball courts were built such that, they had markers on them, more so on the lengths of the courts,
mostly three. This markers were also symbolic in that, they represented the movements of the moon
and the sun in relation to the ground.
When ball gaming became widespread, it became part of North America too where they built courts or
the same. The sport thrived in many countries and cities and became with time an architectural and
social activity than a culture.

A Point Of Return In Nietzsche s Groundhog Day
1. Tanksley reports about her young life up to this point that if I had to do it all over again, I wouldn t
change a thing. Can you use this as a point of departure for o Defining Nietzsche s eternal return and
showing how it works?
1. NietzscheĀ“s eternal return is similar to the 1993 film Groundhog Day where a news reporter got
stuck into a time loop reliving the same day over and over until breaking the loop. The contrast here,
however, is the film focusing on the reporterĀ“s unhappiness of reliving the same day everyday,
whereas Nietzsche philosophized that every decision and action made would be the setup to be relived
from the changing point when it all began; the cycle would be repeated when the person dies and then
is immediately reborn into the point of change. In terms of the film Groundhog Day, the main
character died at the end of each day to be reborn at the point his alarm clock went off in the morning.
(Faust, 2012) o Characterizing Tanksley s professional life as one fit for approval by Nietzsche s
eternal return?
1. In TanksleyĀ“s case, she believes that she has found her principle passion for life and would be
content to repeat it lifetime after lifetime. For her, it is what fuels her to live. In NietzscheĀ“s law of the
eternal return, each re lived life is an exact copy of the original without being changed in other words,
living in an unknown time loop or stuck in a rut . Tanksley states that she would be perfectly happy to

b. One of the issues in denormalized data is that it can result in many to many relationships that are
not compatible with the relational database. Visio does not allow creation of a many to many
relationship because of this incompatibility. Therefore, for any many to many relationships in your
data, you will need to create two one to many relationships. See the example below:Page 4 of 5
c. Based on the information from Step 1, create the initial ERD for the College

a. While the initial ERD is accurate, if you design a database without deviating from it, you will
encounter problems. For example, a course is offered many times. If you use the course code, for

possible solutions.

times. However, this is not acceptable because it introduces redundancy rather than reducing it.
2. Use a composite primary key consisting of the

My First Day At Central High School
Reflections on My First Day at Central High School
When I woke up this morning, I was extremely nervous. Among my close friends and family, I
am known for my uncanny ability to get lost just about everywhere. So you could imagine how
terrified I
was that I would become extremely lost. My younger brother goes to a private school that is pretty far
away from where Central is located. So my parents decided to wake us all up around 5:30 AM and
leave
the house around 6. They dropped me off at school around 7 AM. At first I was a bit annoyed because
I
thought that no other students would be at Central at that time. In retrospect, getting to school around
7
was not the worst event that happened to me. That happened a few hours later. I was able to talk to a
couple of other freshmen who had suffered the same fate as I did.
After maybe an hour of sitting around in the auditorium, the school day finally began for the
freshmen. Our orientation leaders had to get to their own classes so the kids of 410 were left find our
own

Candy from the same advisory. We walked to our advisory together and were lucky to get seats next to
each other. When the advisory class ended, we walked towards our Algebra 1 Honors class together.
My World History class was the next class of my day. Fortunately, I was able to secure a seat in
the front row. Even though I have

Booker Du Bois And Booker T. Washington
Should Blacks have to give up their civil rights, political power and the choice of higher education for
the younger generations just to survive in a White dominated society? Should Black America have to
pay such a high cost to be accepted only to be viewed as the inferior race? Blacks had to take the
backseat in society for many years. Some were probably pressured and some just plain settled. The
feeling of not having a choice and taking the better option was of no benefit to the blacks. What was
considered to be the best decision only proved to be the worse decision that black America could ever
make. The writing Of Booker T. Washington and Others highlighted the views W. E. B. Du Bois and
Booker T. Washington had for Black ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Why let all those efforts go in vain? But this is exactly what Mr. Washington wanted to the Blacks to
do. This was the strategy he felt would help Blacks get to where they strived to be. Mr. Du Bois he too
was an advocate for economical success for black but not at the price of giving up your rights as a
citizen. He felt blacks could be successful as well as educated. He felt blacks should not have to take
the low road of inferiority to achieve financial solidity.
Due to the amount of opposition Blacks faced giving up a few rights to take the spotlight off of them
seemed like a fair trade that the majority of the people accepted. Du Bois stated, As a result of this
tender of the palm branch, what has been the return? In these years there have occurred: 1. The
disfranchisement of the Negro. 2. The legal creation of distinct status of civil inferiority for the Negro.
3. The steady withdrawal of aid from institutions for the higher training of the Negro. (Du Bois).
This created a well defined line of segregation. And this time it seems as though Blacks unknowingly
did it to themselves under the direction of Booker T. Washington. The division was not entirely
because of Mr. Washington but his suggestions did help aid in the separation. There were already civil
issues between Blacks and Whites and this was a definite setback. The aftermath resulted in a broken
Black America. Black America needed to know there was hope. Mr. Du Bois

As shown in There Will Come Soft Rains , annihilations includes the obliteration of nature and our
surroundings. To convey this message to the readers, Ray Bradbury makes a strategic use of the
narrative elements: setting and figurative language. As the story begins, we learn that the house stood
alone in a city of rubble and ashes. This was the one house left standing. At night the ruined city gave
off a radioactive glow which could be seen for miles (Bradbury 167). From the start, we begin to see
that everything in the vicinity of a town on Earth is destroyed except this damaged house still
managing to function properly. Through the description of the setting, the readers start to get an idea
of what it would be like if the world is destroyed by a radioactive bomb. On top of the house already
been destroyed, we read that a falling tree bough crashed through the kitchen window. Cleaning
solvent, bottled, shattered over the stove. The room was ablaze in an instant! (Bradbury 170). This

  • 2. Research Paper On Hispaniola The total amount of islands, including islets, coral reefs and cays is about seven thousand, including a majority of the area known as The Antilles. Of those islands, the four largest among them include the island nations of Cuba, Jamaica, Hispaniola (composed of the countries Haiti and the Dominican Republic) and Puerto Rico. Cuba is the 16th largest island by land area and is the largest island of the Caribbean. Its coastline is about 3,735 km (1.86 miles) and a total of 110,860 km (42, 803 square miles) of land and sea. Its horizontal width is 1202 km (747 miles) and its vertical length is 80 km (50 miles). Cuba s land is flat, flowing gradually into hills and its coastlines are mostly mountainous. The country has about 200 small rivers as well as narrow streams that run dry during the summer. As for vegetation, Cuba s forests only cover about ten percent of the island and most of its ecoregion has been converted into a savannah. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The former occupies one third of the island while the latter controls the balance of land. According to Christopher Columbus, he declared Hispaniola as the most beautiful island in the world. As a whole, Hispaniola consists primarily of pine trees. The Dominican Republic has four significant mountain ranges, including the Pico Duarte the country s highest point and the highest of the Caribbean. The lowlands of the Dominican Republic are exceptionally dry with very little plant growth. Coincidentally, Haiti is a mountainous land dominated by three mountain ranges and is dependent on its agricultural farms. • 3. The Qualities And Traits Of Leaders Essay 2 The qualities and traits of leaders A number of leadership traits almost come directly from within. These are the qualities that might be harder to train, but which make leading other people smoother. Committed A good leader has to show commitment. Fulfilling your vision won t happen overnight and you need to be able to convince everyone else that you won t disappear when things get tough. If you make a promise, you need to keep it. You can t just preach about achieving A, B and C, but you need to show that you are actually going to do it. Commitment matters for two reasons. First, when you show commitment you help build trust. The team and anyone involved with the project will be able to trust your word. Trust will keep work morale up and help you achieve objectives faster since people don t need to second guess what your objectives are. But furthermore, the second aspect of commitment is about setting an example. As mentioned throughout the article, leadership is about setting an example and if you show commitment to your word, your subordinates will be inspired to stick to their promises. Using your own example of hard work, you will ensure the people around you feel motivated to do the same thing. Passionate Passion should be at the heart of everything you do. It doesn t matter whether you are a leader of a multibillion company or a lumberjack, without passion, you won t achieve success. You can understand its importance when you view it as the fuel to your truck. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Povertyin the World Poverty evokes various definitions depending on the audience and perhaps the purpose or context that it is used. Limiting the definition of poverty to a value judgment is of little use in terms of agreeing on a definition for the purpose of comparison and measurement between groups (Sen 1979, p.285). A clear definition of poverty supports and indicates the process for measurement, and as such would also assist in determining the focus and approach for development (Clark 2012; Ruggeri, Saith Stewart 2006, p.19). In reviewing Oxfam Australia s (Oxfam) Close the Gap campaign, it is necessary to identify the approach that is taken in defining poverty in order to gauge the scope of the project, the development of the approach used, and to quantify the change that occurs. Oxfam itself has identified Close the Gap as a human rights campaign that aims to close the life expectancy health gap of 10 17 years for Aboriginal and Torres Strait within a generation (Holland 2014, p.46). Vizard in her exploration of Sen s capability approach (2005, p.24), emphasises the marriage of capabilities with human rights, citing poverty as one of the key exclusions to fundamental freedoms and human rights, thus expanding the definition of poverty into a multidimensional one. Health is one of the dimensions included in the rights approach, which suggests that the abuses of human rights result in poverty and are also a result of poverty (OHCHR 2006, p.16). • 5. Theories Of Secularization The Secularization Debates Early theories of secularization had originated in order to make note of the transfer of religious properties to the state. In this way, secularization was initially conceived as a means of labelling the transfer of things from the religious sphere of the European monastery to the non monastic saeculum, or, secular sphere. This theory was subsumed into theories of modernization in order to argue that as the social differentiation of societies on the path to modernization increased, so too would the secularization of these societies. However, American socio religious development seemed to fly in the face of these early theories and this traditional paradigm, as several periods of modernization in the United ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Finke and Stark begin by explaining how religion was initially viewed as an epiphenomenon (Finke/Stark 96). In their words, it was thought of as an elaborate reflection of more basic realities (96). The pair reference early Berger s imagery to explain how the sacred canopy notion meant that religious thought was viewed with unquestioned authority and plausibility (97). From this contextualizing explanation, they move to explain the predominant theories of modernization, which posit secularization as inevitable. This old paradigm has been forced to adjust in the face of material facts, like the correlation of industrialization and religiosity in late nineteenth and early twentieth century America. Consequently, the more simplistic notion of secularization as tied to de institutionalization has been weakened. This allows Finke and Stark to expand on the new paradigm of religion, which does away with the notion of religion as epiphenomenological, and argues that religious doctrines themselves can have consequences, (100). Finke and Stark s theory is largely centered on a refocusing of dominant religious thought, to consider the factors and incentives by which the supply of religion is altered. Within the notion of a religious economy, the pair put forth a variety of propositions. The first proposition is that a religious ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. A Comparison Of Wildfires And The Santa Ana Winds Wildfires and the Santa Ana winds are harsh realities of life in California. Brush Fire and The Santa Ana are pieces that touch upon this pertinent topic. Arguing that the toll taken on civilization in California by annual wild fires is the fault of the humans affected is California native Linda Thomas. In contrast, Joan Didion, also a California born author, portrays wild fires and Santa Ana winds as evil forces that destroy all in their path. Despite these authors diverging perspectives, their pieces intersect in regards to the basic rhetorical strategies employed. Thomas introduction is written from a personal perspective, describing how [she] awoke to air so dry that the graze of [her] nightgown against the down comforter created tiny orange sparks, how [she has] a roaring sinus headache, and how [she finds herself] beneath a smoky sky the color of fire. Written in the first person, these descriptions place the audience into the author s shoes creating a bond between each reader and the author; consequently, the reader has a significant level of trust in the author s ideas. Secondly, Thomas introduction artfully orients her audience before delving into the main portion of her writing. Words and phrases such as tiny orange sparks, roaring, and smokey immediately create the image of a fire in the reader s mind. The Santa Ana begins rhetorically similar to Brush Fire, but there are numerous aspects of Didion s introduction that differentiate it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He commanded all of the U.S troops on the island and had his command center stationed on Corregidor (Biography.com, 2012). On this island he watched as the Japanese army invaded the Philippines. Outnumbered and outgunned, MacArthur was forced to retreat to Australia. When he arrived in Australia he made his I shall return speech. In this speech he promised that he would return to the Philippines and force the Japanese off the islands. After a couple of years he finally gained enough troops to return to the Philippines. Once he was on the island he gave his I have returned speech (Breuer, 2001). Reasons for Going Back The general consensus is that MacArthur went back because of his father s past, his personal ego, or because of his national duty. Many biographers or historians can agree that he went back for at least one of these reasons. Geoffrey Perret said MacArthur saw his return to the Philippines as a way of redeeming American national pride and honor. And his own pride and honor (PBS, 2012). Tactics are utilized to inflate or deflate revenues and expenses to arrive at the desired financial position of executives of the business. Fraud, however, is not something derived from years of experience. As is the case of ZZZZ Best, the perpetrator of fraud in the case of this organization was its 15 year old owner, Barry Minkow. Case Study: ZZZZ Best Mr. Minkow started his carpet cleaning business at a young age of 15 years. He held aspirations of becoming a millionaire. Such aspirations led to Mr. Minkow masterminding a level of corporate fraud that propelled him to being labeled a wonder boy on Wall Street and the lavish lifestyle he craved (Mintz Morris, 2014). Mr. Minkow was so successful in concealing his fraud, auditors failed to detect them when reviewing financial statements. That is until one individual, a former customer, unraveled his years of deception. The ZZZZ Best case was such that management set out to conceal the fraud from the Securities and Exchange Commission, their clients and investors, and the auditors engaged to conduct the audits of their public financial statements. The foremost question is, should said auditors be held accountable for their failures in cases where management goes to excessive lengths to purposely conceal such fraudulent activities from the auditors. • 11. Famous Speeches Of The Great Awakening Jessica Gebert Famous Speeches Final Paper The first known recordings of eulogistic discourse emerged from the ancient Greek tradition, where the funeral speech developed out of the formal laudation or commemoration of those who had fallen in battle for their country. Some of the best examples of this type of eulogistic rhetoric include Cicero s de Orator and Pericles Funeral oration. Stylistically the structure of these orations typically concentrated heavily on the mourning of the deceased and then transitioned into the celebration of their life. (Kent, 2007). While the traditional Greek structure lasted many decades, as early as the 1700 s a shift in style of funeral orations began to emerge. Many attribute this stylistic change to the Great Awakening as new Protestant sects began incorporating more expressive and ceremonial approaches to their memorials. As funerals became increasingly extravagant spectacles, funeral sermons began to incorporate biography, praise, and emotional expression developments that laid a foundation for the popularization of the eulogy genre. (Henderson, 2011) In Owen Peterson s volume of Representative American Speeches, he notes, A eulogy has two distinctive characteristics which sets it apart from most other forms of public address: (1) it is meant to be delivered at a ceremonial occasion to honor the subject; and (2) it is designed to be heard by an audience that already shares the speaker s respect, affection, or admiration for ... Today s shaman leaves new footprints on paths of psychic awareness and spiritual wisdom that are over thirty thousand years old. Shamanism is a millennial tradition of healing, power and wisdom that sees all of life as interconnected and sacred. Material and spiritual worlds interpenetrate one another, and the shaman s path lies in attaining a life of harmony with both. The process of shamanic awakening is as vast as the universe itself. It excludes no one, and yet includes only those willing to surrender a limited sense of self. One must live it to understand it. In the shamanic world view, mind and body are inseparable. There is no distinction perceived between physical, psychological, spiritual an social ills. Even life an death are not seen as separate conditions. Healing in a native sense means making a person whole by restoring the health of the body, mind, spirit and community. • 14. Control Bacterial Growth Lab Report Being able to control bacterial growth is something that is important in our everyday lives. As shown in the previous labs, bacteria can grow and create colonies extremely quickly especially in the right environments. By acknowledging this, it is then important to get an understanding of how bacterial growth can be controlled by humans. To control microorganisms it means to inhibit their growth (static) and or kill them (cidal) (Kenneth Todar, 2015); therefore since focusing on bacteria the terms bactericidal and bacteriostatic are both extremely important for this lab. One broad method we will use to control bacterial growth is heat. The amount of heat needed to control bacterial growth is different for different species of bacteria (Kenneth Todar, 2015). Bacteria can also respond differently depending if moist heating method such as an autoclave with steam is used, or a dry heating method such as inoculating a loop over a fire is used (Kenneth Todar, 2015). It is a review on previous literature that assesses the situations and circumstances that led to information on travel and abortion services becoming accessible to Irish women from 1995 in an amendment to the eighth amendment section 40.3.3 as a result of X v. In this paper, I will aim to discuss the history of abortion services, and access to information from the early 1980 s through to the current social movement in Ireland Repeal the 8th , and how this relates to the overall literature review topic of The Spectatorship of Suffering . The first section of this review contains of an outline of Ireland s constitutionally engrained protection of foetal rights and the way in which this was upset with the Supreme Court s decision in the Miss X case (1992), because the Court adopted the language of proper candidates for abortions. • 18. Collectivism In Anthem To The Fountainhead, By Ayn Rand Collectivism is a very common theme in Ayn Rand s writing. From Anthem to The Fountainhead, her opinion is very clear: individualism is the source of freedom and joy, while collectivism is the root of sorrow and slavery. In Anthem, the main character, Equality 7 252, has grown up in a collectivist society that has remained strong for centuries. In that society, no one has had the choice to do what they want to do, love what (or who) they love, and simply be who they are. That society praises the idea that men live only for each other. Living for oneself is evil, a Transgression. The idea of I , Me , and Mine has disappeared, dragging the precious words along with it. Throughout the plot, Equality 7 2521 is seen both unintentionally and intentionally defying his society. At first, he condemns himself, describing his evil acts and mind and labeling his different mindset as a curse. We were born with a curse. It has always driven us to thoughts which are forbidden. (Rand 18) He is also condemned by others, for things he cannot control. He is taller than most other people, he has preferences for what he wishes to become, and he has ideas and opinions. Yet when his life assignment is Street Sweeper, he rejoices. He sees that as a way to pay penance for his sins. Later on, however, he embraces his individuality. I am. I think. I will. (Rand 94) He is the first to accept the idea of individuality for centuries, and helps others accept it, too. A similar struggle is seen in The Fountainhead. The main character of that novel, . Howard Roark, has to defend himself in court after dynamiting a government housing project that he designed. An agreement was made that the project would be built exactly as designed, but it wasn t, so Roark made a protest against collectivism by destroying the project. He ends up in court. He then delivers a moving speech titled The Soul of an Individualist . In it he proclaims his individualism, and denounces collectivism as a parasitic system in which no one can achieve anything or truly live. Can you use this as a point of departure for o Defining Nietzsche s eternal return and showing how it works? 1. NietzscheĀ“s eternal return is similar to the 1993 film Groundhog Day where a news reporter got stuck into a time loop reliving the same day over and over until breaking the loop. The contrast here, however, is the film focusing on the reporterĀ“s unhappiness of reliving the same day everyday, whereas Nietzsche philosophized that every decision and action made would be the setup to be relived from the changing point when it all began; the cycle would be repeated when the person dies and then is immediately reborn into the point of change. In terms of the film Groundhog Day, the main character died at the end of each day to be reborn at the point his alarm clock went off in the morning. (Faust, 2012) o Characterizing Tanksley s professional life as one fit for approval by Nietzsche s eternal return? 1. In TanksleyĀ“s case, she believes that she has found her principle passion for life and would be content to repeat it lifetime after lifetime. For her, it is what fuels her to live. In NietzscheĀ“s law of the eternal return, each re lived life is an exact copy of the original without being changed in other words, living in an unknown time loop or stuck in a rut . Among my close friends and family, I am known for my uncanny ability to get lost just about everywhere. So you could imagine how terrified I was that I would become extremely lost. My younger brother goes to a private school that is pretty far away from where Central is located. So my parents decided to wake us all up around 5:30 AM and leave the house around 6. They dropped me off at school around 7 AM. At first I was a bit annoyed because I thought that no other students would be at Central at that time. Some were probably pressured and some just plain settled. The feeling of not having a choice and taking the better option was of no benefit to the blacks. This was the strategy he felt would help Blacks get to where they strived to be. Mr. Du Bois he too was an advocate for economical success for black but not at the price of giving up your rights as a citizen. He felt blacks could be successful as well as educated. He felt blacks should not have to take the low road of inferiority to achieve financial solidity. Due to the amount of opposition Blacks faced giving up a few rights to take the spotlight off of them seemed like a fair trade that the majority of the people accepted. Du Bois stated, As a result of this tender of the palm branch, what has been the return? In these years there have occurred: 1. The disfranchisement of the Negro. 2. The legal creation of distinct status of civil inferiority for the Negro. 3. The steady withdrawal of aid from institutions for the higher training of the Negro. (Du Bois). This created a well defined line of segregation. And this time it seems as though Blacks unknowingly did it to themselves under the direction of Booker T. Washington.
