Examples Of Coming Of Age In Mississippi By Anne Moody
Anne Moody s Coming of Age in Mississippi is a narrative autobiography of life as a poor African
American woman during, a time of intense prejudice and segregation in American history. Anne
Moody s autobiography follows her journey beginning at the age of four until her involvement with
the Civil Rights movement. She recounts the horrors and shame of growing up as an African American
in the South. She describes the extreme poverty, brutality, and violence which all African Americans
shared. She chooses to come out of the struggle a victor and be a pioneer for the freedom and justice.
Anne Moody came to know that bigotry and inequality came from all shades of color, from both white
and black. It was her experiences through life that shaped ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Americans situation across the United States. At this time Anne Moody attended her first NAACP
chapter while attending one of the finest African American universities in the state, Tougaloo College.
The NAACP allowed Anne engage in something that she believed would change her situation and all
those around her. All her anger and resentment towards segregation, sexualization, and racism were
placed in her efforts. She became engrossed in doing all she could because she believed that
something could be done to better the relationships with whites and African

Comparing The Lost Boys, Dracula and Peter-Pan Essay
Common threads in The Lost Boys, Dracula and Peter Pan
In The Lost Boys there are similar occurrences and references to both of the novel Dracula, by Bram
Stoker and Peter Pan, by Sir James Barrie. There are many similarities between the three story lines.
In the stories of all three works there is a common thread of story it all started with Dracula.
The story of Dracula has many components of it used in the film The Lost Boys. The comparison s
begin with the vampire. Dracula is centered around the main vampire, Dracula. Dracula has many
powers and ways he can alter reality. In the novel Bram Stoker s Dracula we see that there is a power
struggle. In all of the universe, no one being has complete control over another. In ... Show more

First he must take her blood, and secondly she must take his blood to make her a vampire.
Dracula is near immortality (he cannot die from the passage of time or from disease). Dracula has
survived for century s, and there was only one way he could die. The only way he can be killed is to
have a stake driven through his heart, then have his head severed. Dracula has the ability to grow
younger by drinking blood. His feeding upon the living keeps him alive or in his case Undead. The
blood gives him his youth in the blood is life!
Dracula casts no shadow. He is not living and manipulates the light. The light seems to pass right
through him. Or another way to look at this would be as Francis Ford Coppola viewed it: He felt that
Dracula had a shadow by some means. Dracula s shadow moved as though he could will the light to
do his bidding, or does it go further than that is the shadow a darker side of Dracula? The shadow tries
to strangle Jonathan Harker while Dracula stands here.
Dracula casts no reflection. The first time that we have a notion that he does not like mirrors is when
Jonathan Harker makes the statement there is not a single mirror in the entire castle . The most
memorable mirror scene is when Dracula comes to see Jonathan he(Dracula) is exposed to mirror and
he become enraged when he sees it. Dracula takes it and throws it into the courtyard below and it
shatters on the rocks below.
Dracula has the ability to crawl along walls. One night

From The Cold By George Blake Essay
Secret agencies are more common than the population believe. They are a part of modern societies
since many decades now. Secret agencies are constantly looking after one another. Many spies will get
caught in their spy life. One of them is George Blake. The next paragraphs will discuss George Blake
espionage case.
First of all, George Blake is born with the name George Behar in 1922 in Rotterdam Netherlands (
George, par. 1). His father was Spanish Jew from the Middle East and his mother was a Dutch (
Interview with George Blake, par. 1).
When World War II began, Blake was stuck in the Holland which was taken by the Germans (Irvine,

people can not build a perfect society ( Interview with George Blake, par. 51) Blake will leak many
important dossiers to the Soviet Union. He betrayed by leaking documents many British agents (
George Blake, par 2). Encyclopedia Britannica estimated the numbers at at least 42 by his captor s

is probably the one about the 1 500 feet tunnel under Berlin which was used by the British and the
American to spy on the Soviet Union (Wilkinson, par. 1). If the tunnel dossier would not have been

Charter Schools Research Paper
Charter Schools
Charter schools are a type of public school that is open enrollment. It has been growing immensely as
the years go on. 42 out of the 50 states have voted that charter schools are a part of their state s
education system. There are over five thousand charter schools in the United State with over two
million students enrolled. The schools are run by teachers and certified teachers. They are considered
to be an alternative public school that creates a high quality public school choices that cater to the
child s specific needs. Charter schools do not believe in the idea that education is one size fits all and
the choices that they give offer more opportunities to the children for success. Charter schools are very
similar to traditional public schools. They are technically open to all who apply. They cannot
discriminate in their admissions and must enroll all students that submit their applications on time.

operations topics related to facility layout have been deemphasized and materials on job design and
work measurement are not included. The book is divided into 14 concise chapters. Our intent was to
design a book that could be used cover to cover in an introductory Operations and Supply Chain
Management course. In developing each chapter we considered how students would view the material.
All chapters are approximately the same in length. Our attempt is to balance managerial concepts and
analysis. This balance does not work out perfectly as some topics are intrinsically more managerial
and others more analytical . Each chapter includes material that should work well pedagogically in a
number of ways. For those who want to emphasize analysis, problems are developed in each chapter
and solved problems included at the end of each chapter. The short cases at the end of each chapter all
require some analysis and usually have some managerial issues that can be discussed as well. The

Australian Foreign Policy And Australia s Relations With...
Australian foreign policy is characterised by a series of significant issues that are all inter related. This
piece will focus on Australia s relationship with the US, Asylum Seeker policy and Australia s
relations with Asia.
Relationship with the US
Australia has had a long and close relationship with the United States.
US Australian relations are underpinned by the ANZUS treaty, finalised in 1951. The relationship is
underpinned by shared values, culture, social bonds and common strategic interests. However, the
partnership has become a problem within Australian foreign policy for a variety of reasons.
Firstly, there is concern regarding the responsibilities we have placed upon ourselves as an Ally.
Although we are not obligated to join the US in war, we are consistently following them into overseas
conflicts that we otherwise have no interest in. As it currently stands, Australia has fought in numerous
wars alongside the United States in the years since the conception of the ANZUS treaty, and we are
yet to win one. Australia appears to be under the impression that we are under the military protection
of the US, and this is often stated as a reason for maintaining close ties with the global power. This is
simply not the case; our partnership does not force either party to come to the aid of the other. The
United States will not come to our defence in the case of a conflict unless it is within their own
interests.
Secondly, our alliance with the US has placed a

Critique Of The Cadian Ball
During the late 1800s, many new ideas came with the industrial revolution. With these ideas came
thoughts on how to change the way our sociality was working. Writers especially brought out the
opinions of they these radical ideas, by writing and spreading these ideas. At the Cadian Ball fails to
advocate a change in the social system, by mixing races and classes, but at the same time, and
supports the norm of marring someone of your own class, by have all four of the main characters
marry into the same class.
Within the story all the characters speak the same language, giving everyone an equal ground,
showing that everyone has something in common. During the story the narrator tells us, They
belonged to the younger generation, so preferred to speak English. (Chopin 6). This tells us that they
all speak the same language, with shows that they are all similar, but we can also infer that because
they state that they do this because they are younger, that the older generations, did not do this and
strengthened the divide between classes by speaking different languages.
The Cadian Ball advocates a change in the social class by featuring multi class and race couples, but
does not fully support the statement by having the characters marry others of their class. They talked
low, and laughed softly, as lovers do. (6) Alcee and Calixta are stated as lovers, even though this is the
1800s, there is a mixed race couple, but the story doesn t portray this negative. They also show

Themes Of A Yellow Raft In Blue Water
In the book, A Yellow Raft in Blue Water, written by Michael Dorris, the story is told by three
different narrators at three different points in time. Rayona, a half black, half Native American teen,
Christine, the mother of Rayona, and Aunt Ida, who poses as Christine s mom but actually in reality, is
Christine s half sister. Throughout the book, there are many references towards the book s themes and
are examined and highlighted throughout the book. Family and finding your true identity are the main
themes in this book because throughout the book, Rayona s past remains a mystery to her all because
of her mother and grand mother and she is willingly desperate to find a family or other people that will
welcome her and make her feel normal. In this book, family and finding out who you really are are

The color yellow appears most at Bearpaw Lake State Park, where a yellow raft is in blue water.
Rayona feels the yellow boat as an escape from reality and feels peaceful whenever she s on it. This is
because of Ellen DeMarco. When Rayona sees Ellen for the first time, Rayona admires her because
she assumes that Ellen has a perfect life that Rayona dreams and imagines of having, even when Ellen
gets off and on the yellow raft. The yellow raft is so precious to Rayona that the yellow raft
symbolizes the life that Rayona is desperate for, but she cannot and most likely will never have. In
Christine s section, she challenged herself to cross a naturally built yellow stone bridge while she was
growing up. Unfortunately, she never was able to cross the bridge by herself and failed every time she
attempted to do so. However, Lee, posing as Christine s sister to Christine, he helps her out crossing
the bridge and achieving the goal she set for herself. From this point on, the story of her constant
failure on her own eventually leads her to a reckless and careless

National Sovereignty, Oppressive Government, and the US...
National Sovereignty, Oppressive Government, and the US Role in the World
Introduction
The American attack against Afghanistan that was triggered by the September 11th tragedy once again
raised the question of US role in the world. The current military intervention also touched the issue of
the major factors, defining the course of US international policy. In the globalized world today the
ratio of soft power (the ability to attract through cultural and ideological appeal) to hard power (a
country s economic and military ability to buy and coerce) used in solving international conflicts is
constantly increasing (Nye 2). However, military campaigns still provide a way out of deepening
international crises. Should ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since one could argue what US end goals actually are, I will assume that peace, democracy, and
freedom are absolute values and always better than war and oppression. They should, therefore, be the
final targets of every international act. Unfortunately, so far, as I will show by examples, this target
has rarely been reached.
Second, the US government and the entire nation, seem less and less eager to risk the lives of
American soldiers as well as billions of dollars for causes that are not directly related to America s
national security or its geo political and economic interests. This fact is particularly important, having
in mind the dependence in every democratic country of policy makers on the public opinion.
Finally, the US interventions are likely to create a climate of animosity against America and its allies
among states whose sovereignty has been violated by US military campaigns. The costs of such a
negative climate might eventually fall upon future American generations and bring forth real threats to
the world peace.
With all these factors in mind, I argue that USA s violation of a state s sovereignty could be justified
only by an extremely blatant and absolutely intolerable violation of human rights or hostile actions,
endangering US sovereignty. Likewise, oppressive government s policies, unless overtly anti human
or directed against US vital interests, should not be a reason for military intervention.

Persuasive Speech On Yoga
The winter has ended and it may be the time to get rid of our winter bodies. Admit it, girl, we all

I m sure you ve heard of yoga, maybe you even know someone who goes to yoga classes every week.
Nonetheless, yoga is the type of workout everyone should try at least once. It s good for both your

Things Fall Apart Religious Beliefs Essay
Religious Practices and Beliefs Things Fall Apart
In the novel Things Fall Apart , by Chinua Achebe, one of the main aspects of the Ibo community was
religion, before the pre colonization of Nigeria. After the White Man known as the British took over, it
caused many people of the Ibo community to betray their religious beliefs, causing people to change
to their religion, Christianity that is more acceptable in many aspects. Throughout the novel, the Ibo
community is seen to convey their religion, before the colonization of Nigeria. In the beginning of the
novel, Unoka, Okonkwo s father had died of swelling in his stomach and limbs. In the novel, it states

Climate Change Reflection
After watching the move How To Let Go and Love All The Things Climate Can t Change, my
perception of our world completely changed. With the overwhelming facts to the heartfelt stories Josh
Fox exposes viewers to the damage that is yet to come. This movie was so effective as opposed to
other climate documentaries because Fox explains the human aspects of climate change. Traveling to
twelve countries on six continents he explains how ocean warming, sea level rise, and air quality are
already negatively affecting people in their everyday lives. People don t connect with facts, people
connect with people. This is something I am realizing is critical in getting others on board with
sustainability initiatives and to re think the role we play as consumers. After graduating I want to work
as a sustainability director for a large company. At the start of my sustainability journey I am
discovering that the most essential part of a sustainability director s job is to be personable. People
will be more likely to implement change when they realize how it benefits or affects them and their
organization. Without effective communication, projects will never be funded, ideas will not be
considered, and it is less likely that your impact will be as substantial as it could. As a sustainability
advocate, it will be my job to promote and implement initiatives that will help us now, but also
generations to come will feel those effects. Josh Fox shows it is the grassroot groups and people
stepping up to protect our planet because they know it is necessary. I have developed the mindset, if
not me than who? Out of all ten of the things that climate can t change, I believe that the most
important one is resilience. As sustainability professionals, it is a fact of life that you will be told no.
But the key is moving on from that. You can not get yourself worked up just because things didn t play
out how we want. We can also not let getting told no beat us down, not everyone understands or wants
to understand the environmental catastrophes that are upon us. With this in mind, we should use
getting told no to drive us forward and work even harder on the next project we have. Resilience stood
out to me in the movie when the Samoa tribe

Gustave Flaubert Writing Style
The 1800 s was a century of change. Medicine was advancing, the effects of the Enlightenment were
still underway, and a new age of exploration occurred as those of Europe began to extend their hands
across the world towards America. During these times the common folk changed and adapted many of
their ideals, and suffered many hardships and heartaches. In this period, a man of Normandy named
Gustave Flaubert caught many of these hardships within his writings. With words, thoughts, and
crafted phrases, he showed what the common people of this period went through day by day. As an
article put out by TV Tropes explains, Flaubert was famous for his precise, straightforward writing
style, filled with the ideal of realism:

Felicite, as explained at the very beginning of the story, was known for her cleanliness, making people
all around them envy Madame Aubaine for her choice of servant. Though Madame Aubaine s story is
interesting in itself, the story of Felicite is not only one of importance to the story but also to our
understanding of these times in general. Her father and mother were both killed when she was very
young, and when her siblings split up without her she was left alone to find work. Most places where
she found it were hostile to a young woman of eighteen, leaving her vulnerable to physical and verbal
abuse. She even experienced this through a brief relationship, and though she did end up loving him
he eventually revealed he was only looking for someone to marry to avoid the draft. Walking away in
defeat, she found Madame Aubaine and signed on to work for her fifty years. It s here that she begins
the biggest of her struggles. Under Madame Aubaine she suffered four hardships that were common in
Felicite s days. Her first hardship was the loss of her nephew on his journey to America. As explained
in the story, when Felicite s nephew left for the new world she constantly paced back and forth hoping
a letter from him would arrive soon. The constant anxiety of never knowing whether or not he was
alright was something that those who knew New World travelers experienced often. Even more people
lost loved ones to this voyage as Felicite did. Without the instant communication and

Determining The Double Helix
Determining the Double Helix
Deoxyribonucleic acid, commonly known as DNA, was first discovered by Johann Mieschere, a Swiss
biologist, in 1869. He made the discovery while studying the nuclei of leukocytes, however the greater
significance of this molecule and its structure would not be known until 1951. At that time, scientists
did not know the function of DNA, let alone the structure. It was believed that the structure of the
mysterious molecule would help uncover its true function. The structure of DNA was solved by James
Watson and Francis Crick at the University Of Cambridge, England. They deduced that DNA was
made up of chains of nucleotides with one of the four different bases: Adenine, Thymine, Guanine and
Cytosine on the inside and its phosphate backbone on the outside, thus creating the double helix. This
discovery could be considered the single most important finding that gave rise to the study of heredity
and gene expression. However, Watson and Crick could not have revealed the three dimensional
structure of DNA without the previous contributing research conducted by Erwin Chargaff, Phoebus
Levene, and Rosalind Franklin.
The first researcher that contributed to the discovery of the structure of DNA was Erwin Chargaff.
Chargaff was an Austrian biochemist whose research led to the creation of Chargaff s Rules. These
rules summarize the findings that the amount of Adenine (A) is always equal to the amount of
Thymine (T). Similarly, the amount of Guanine (G) is

Lisfranc Fracture-Dislocation Case Study
The Lisfranc fracture dislocation is characterised as an injury of the tarsometatarsal joints of the foot.
This region of the foot is prone to injury due to the lack of ligaments separating the bases of the first
and second metatarsals (Bontrager Lampignano, 2010). The Lisfranc joint articulates between the
cuneiforms and cuboid of the foot, along with the distal end of metatarsals, and separates the forefoot
from the midfoot. The joint can be seen from three different views in Figure 1 of the appendix (Kalia,
Fishman, Carrino, Fayad, 2011). The clinical indications of a Lisfranc fracture dislocation include
oedema and tenderness in the area of the midfoot. The injury is usually caused by the foot being
overly plantar flexed, and is often associated with vehicular accidents and sporting injuries (Scolaro,
Ahn Mehta, 2011).
According to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the separation between the base of the first and second metatarsals is less than two millimetres, the
recommended treatment is to cast and immobilise the foot until healed. However, the most common
form of treatment is surgical and known as open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF). In Figure 4, a
radiographic image shows how a surgical screw has been positioned to stabilise and internally fixate
the Lisfranc fracture dislocation (Southerland, Boberg, Downey, Nakra Rabjohn, 2012).
It has been suggested by Scolaro (2011) et al. that if the Lisfranc fracture dislocation is greater than
two millimetres long term complications such as arthritis and damage to surrounding ligaments can
occur. However, the likelihood of obtaining posttraumatic arthritis is decreased dramatically if ORIF
surgery is performed soon after initial injury. If the Lisfranc fracture was a result of an athletic injury,
pain and instability of the foot can occur and arthrodesis may be necessary for long term treatment

Tragedy Of Romeo And Juliet
Romeo Juliet Critique
The Tragedy of Romeo Juliet by William Shakespeare was in the 18th century in a place called
Verona, Italy. Shakespeare illustrates about how sometimes that life can be unfair or not, but it s not
worth dying for when something bad happens to them or not. There were two young people that are
Romeo and Juliet, they fall in love when they first saw each other and later on, they get married
because it was unfair when both families hated each other when they don t want them to fall in love.
Then, when Mercutio fought Tybalt and Romeo fight Tybalt, both Mercutio and Tybalt died during the
fighting. Lastly, when Romeo and Juliet both killed themselves because when life was unfair to them.

For example, he demonstrates situational irony by when Juliet fooled everyone to think she was dead
on her wedding day but she didn t know that she fooled Romeo. The thing that makes it ironic was
that Juliet expected to fool everyone but she didn t expected to fool Romeo. For dramatic irony, when
Romeo said that he love Tybalt, but Tybalt didn t know that Romeo was married to his cousin Juliet
and being part of the family. This is dramatic irony because when Tybalt calls Romeo a villain, he
doesn t know that Romeo was part of the family. Finally the verbal irony, when Mercutio says to
Tybalt right before they fight, Look for me tomorrow and thy will find me a grave man, he means he
was serious. This is verbally ironic because when Mercutio gets into fight, he ends up getting killed by
Tybalt and literally was put in the

Othello And Iago Relationship Analysis
One of the major components in Othello, that Shakespeare incorporated throughout the play, is
relationships. These relationships are driven by different motivations and give each individual
something unique. Each character contributes disparate factors to their relationships and change from
scenario to scenario. The presentation of different relationships in Othello represents many of the
underlying motifs of the play. Othello and Iago s relationship, the most prominent relationship,
represents the duality of the play. Othello believes that Iago is helping him and guiding him to be a
better person; however, Iago is using Othello to get his way. Iago is annoyed that he didn t receive
promotion from general Othello ( Relationships in Othello ). Iago is dissatisfied with Othello s choice
because he believes he deserves the promotion. Iago becomes vengeful and devises a plan to enact his
revenge. I follow him to serve my turn upon him (Shakespeare). Iago is shown to only serve Othello
for his own purposes. Othello cannot see through the facade that Iago has put up and follows him
blindly. Othello trusts Iago totally as Iago has a reputation in Venice for being very honest (
Relationships in Othello ). Moreover, Othello calls Iago Honest Iago on multiple occasions in the play.

Essay on The Decision to Become a Suicide Bomber
Although journalist Dexter Filkins has spent years covering the war in Iraq, he still appears unsure as
to what exactly motivates a suicide bomber to embrace jihad. Citing a specific example in his book,
The Forever War, Filkins poses the question, The most intriguing part of Ra ad s story was
unknowable. How did an English speaking, American loving, hair gel wearing lawyer who d walked
among the bikinis of Santa Monica come to blow himself up in Iraq? (177). While this particular
quandary may appear unknowable to Filkins, the motivation behind suicide bombers actions may be
more obvious than he thinks. It is no secret that American culture differs immensely from that of the
Islamic way of life, as both groups have great difficulty ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Could it be this bitterness towards American culture that motivates a suicide bomber to fulfill his
jihadist destiny? Although Qutb certainly was open about his dislike of America, it seems far more
likely that modern jihadists have an ulterior motive that involves America s foreign policy rather than
its culture. An interesting revelation is made concerning jihadist motivation by John Farmer in his
book, The Ground Truth. Farmer notes that Osama bin Laden s initial concerns were focused in the
Middle East. The continual involvement by the United States in Middle Eastern affairs is what seems
to have put him over the edge. Farmer quotes a specific interview given by bin Laden that clearly
outlines the source of his hatred, America continues to claim that it is upholding the banner of freedom
and humanity... while these deeds that they did [the dropping of the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and
Nagasaki and the imposition of sanctions on Iraq], you would not find that even the most ravenous of
animals would descend to (15 16). Sharing bin Laden s sentiment is his counterpart Khalid Sheikh
Mohammed who actually lived in America at one point. Interestingly, his time spent in America doesn
t seem to be the driving factor behind his feelings. Farmer, quoting the 9/11 Commission, writes, KSM
s animus toward the United States stemmed not from his experiences there as a student, but rather
from his violent

A Modest Proposals By Johnathon Swift
The world we live in, especially Europe, has seen and will continue to see many writers who are very
critical of their government and its current its economic and political state. None however match up to
the critical writing of Johnathon Swift. Swift writes about how the Irish government is in a poor state,
both economically and politically. He writes about the poverty rates and how it is affecting woman,
especially. Swift goes on to explain how the poverty rate is hurting woman, most of which are mothers
with multiple kids who cant afford to feed them all. Swift explains how the country would be better if
parents sold their children, and if people ate them if they were not needed.
Whilst many of Swifts proposals in the beginning of this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Such as the world that the United States is in. The fact that we as Americans feel the need to import
luxury and bet our families rather than investing and them. What I mean by import luxury is that we
don t make anything in our country anymore, everything is imported from Asia (China and Japan
mostly). America has a slowly growing poverty rate that can be fixed if people simply invest in their
country and love it like they love the stuff we import. If we buy American and buy local in our states
and country itself, the economic situation would increase. We could simply lift ourselves out of debt to
other countries. America has never related to a more correct and well written Proposal in all of history.
Swift says that if you buy and support locally and invest in your family and women rather than
gambling them away, often times you do better. This would increase the situation with the people and
the government because we as of right now aren t on the same page as our government and we haven t
for a very long time. If the people and the government rather than selling our people for money, took
them here and made luxury here and exported America and not imported luxury, we could actually dig

Did he not know that Igraine was a daughter of Avalon? That she was a delicate jewel among the

Of course he knew. The bond between his kingdom and Avalon was the main reason he agreed to wed.
The fact that even now, Igraine retains the eternal youthful beauty only those with fairy blood possess,

Graphene Is A Potential Candidate Material
Graphene is a hexagonal two dimensional (2D) monolayer of honeycomb lattice packed carbon
structure that was discovered and successfully isolated from bulk graphite just a few years ago [1]. It
is continuously receiving attention from the research community due to its outstanding mechanical,
thermal and electrical properties [2]. Due to its fascinating properties, graphene is emerging as a
potential candidate material for enormous nano technological applications such as memory devices
[3], nano sensors [4], nano actuators [5], field effect transistors (FFT) [3], gigahertz oscillators [6],
energy production and storage [7], clean energy devices [3] and room temperature humidity sensing
applications [8] etc. In addition to these applications, graphene also attracts prodigious attention as
strengthening element in polymer based composites because it was reported to be the strongest
material with outstanding elastic properties and high intrinsic strength [9 13]. Apparently, the
important of these features depends on the structural perfection of the hexagonal graphene lattice and
strong in plane sp2 bond between carbon atoms. Characterization of the mechanical properties of
graphene is essential both from a technological perspective for its reliable applications and from a
fundamental interest to understanding its deformation physics [14 16]. In material science, fracture
toughness is a property that describes the ability of a material containing a crack to resist fracture, and

Traditional Method of Squad Numbers
Squad numbers at the back of player s backs were first used on August 25, 1928, in a match between
Wednesday (now Sheffield Wednesday) and Arsenal. From then on, until as late as 1993, squad
numbers were assigned according to the position on the field that the player played on a match day
and were usually ranging from 1 11 for the starting line up and from 12 16 for the substitutes. The
following was the traditional method of squad numbers: 1.Goalkeeper 2. Right full back (right side

Stability In Somalia
Abstract
This paper is about the humanitarian mission in Somalia that turned into an effort to rebuild a nation.
It explains how the U.S. military initially entered to assist with the humanitarian efforts but the scope
of the mission changed when United Nations personnel were killed. It also focuses on why the United
States military went after the leader of the Habr Gidr clan, Muhammad Farah Aidid, who was
responsible for the deaths and killings that occurred during the humanitarian mission. The United Task
Force was developed allowing the United States to finally capture and arrest, Muhammad Farah Aidid,
which is explained in Black Hawk Down.

Spina Bifida Research Paper
Spina Bifida is the most common permanently disabling birth defect in the United States. Spina Bifida
happens when a baby is in the womb and the spinal column does not close all the way. There are four
types of Spina Bifida, Occulta, Closed Neural tube defects, Meningocele, and Myelomeningocele.
Spina Bifida Occulta is one or more vertebrae are not properly formed. In Closed Neural tube defects
it consists of a diverse group of defects in which the spinal cord is marked by malformations of fat,
bone, or meninges. Meningocele is spinal fluid and meninges protrude through an abnormal vertebral

birth defect. Spina bifida often doesn t need treatment at all. Surgery after birth, prenatal surgery are
treatments for Spina Bifida. The after birth surgery is Meningocele which involves surgery to put the
meninges back in place and close the opening in the vertebrae. Prenatal surgery is where the surgeons
expose a pregnant mother s uterus surgically, open the uterus and repair the baby s spinal cord.
Treatment continues on through the baby s life. Irreparable nerve damage has already happened and
continuous care from a team of surgeons, physicians and therapists is usually needed. Babies with
myelomeningocele may need more operations for a lot of different types of complications. Even when
children have Spina bifida most children can walk short distances, usually with braces, canes or

Palace Of Knossos Research Paper
The Palace of Knossos was the capital of Minoan Crete. The Place is grander, complex and
flamboyant than any of the other palaces known to us. Knossos is located about twenty minutes south
of the modern port town of Iraklion. The British Archaeologist Arthur Evans, the man who excavated
the site in 1900 AD restored parts of the palace in a way that it is possible today to appreciate the
grandeur and complexity of a structure that evolved over several millennia and grew to occupy about
20,000 square meters.
According to Greek mythology, the palace was designed with such complexity by famed architect
Dedalos that no one placed in it could ever find its exit. The architect was then kept prisoner by King
Minos to ensure that he would not reveal the palace plan to anyone. The Palace of Knossos was
discovered by Minos Kalokairinos in 1878. It was then Sir Arthur Evans, and English archaeologist

Richard Wasserstrom s Ideal Society
Everyone has their own definition of what a perfect world would be. Richard Wasserstrom in Sex
Roles and the Ideal Society states that in an assimilationist ideal society, a person s sex should be as
unimportant as eye color is in our society today.1 But should we just ignore a person s sex all together
to make the world equal? A different opinion from Phyllis Schlafly in The Power of the Positive
Woman states that sex should be a relevant factor in family roles and social roles.² But should a person
s sex completely dictate what they can or cannot do within their family and in society? In this paper I
will argue that Wasserstrom s ideal society will not work because I think that eventually humans
would naturally make general gender roles based on the different activities that each sex excels in. I
agree, to some extent, with Schlafly s that sex should be a relevant factor with reference to roles in the
family and society. In my ideal society, there would be a balance in social and family roles, which
would be based on an individual s personal strengths and weaknesses. In this utopia, complete equality
is possible, unlike in Wasserstrom s and Schlafly s.
Wasserstrom s supports the conclusion that to allocate social roles to individuals based on their sex is
inherently unjust. He goes through different arguments as to why he thinks we should do away with
sex roles. One argument was that within these roles are not the behaviors we would be naturally, but
due to these

History of the Origins of Environmental Ethics Essay
History of the Origins of Environmental Ethics
The inspiration for environmental ethics was the first Earth Day in 1970 when environmentalists
started urging philosophers who were involved with environmental groups to do something about
environmental ethics. An intellectual climate had developed in the last few years of the 1960s in large
part because of the publication of two papers in Science: Lynn White s The Historical Roots of our
Ecologic Crisis (March 1967) and Garett Hardin s The Tragedy of the Commons (December 1968).
Most influential with regard to this kind of thinking, however, was an essay in Aldo Leopold s A Sand
County Almanac, The Land Ethic, in which Leopold explicitly claimed that the roots of the ecological

Most debate among philosophers until the mid 1980s was focused on refuting Passmore. In 1975
environmental ethics came to the attention of mainstream philosophy with the publication of Holmes
Rolston, III s paper, Is There an Ecological Ethic? in Ethics.
Arne Naess, a Norwegian philosopher and the founding editor of the journal Inquiry authored and
published a paper in Inquiry The Shallow and the Deep, Long Range Ecology Movement in 1973,
which was the beginning of the deep ecology movement. Important writers in this movement include
George Sessions, Bill DeVall, Warwick Fox, and, in some respects, Max Oelschlaeger.
Throughout the 1970s Inquiry was the primary philosophy journal that dealt with enviornmental
ethics. Environmental ethics was, for the most part, considered a curiousity and mainstream
philosophy journals rarely published more than one article per year, if that. Opportunities for
publishing dramatically improved in 1979 when Eugene C. Hargrove founded the journal
Environmental Ethics. The name of the journal became the name of the field.
The first five years of the journal was spent mostly arguing about rights for nature and the relationship

Arundel Case Essay
Case 3: Arundel Partners
1. Arundel has an interesting idea to buy rights to movie sequels. Their theory is that they can make a
profit by securing sequel rights and providing seed capital to films even before production starts, thus
avoiding the asymmetric information problem that would arise as the film progresses and the studio
gains more and more inside information about the film s prospects. Buying rights in advance allows
Arundel to buy rights to the sequels of eventually successful movies much more cheaply than after
their success is proved, and also eliminates any potential bidding wars that may arise for sequel rights
to successful films. Furthermore, securing a (relatively) inexpensive option to potentially

The DCF yields an average NPV of $2.41 million (please see Exhibit 1). Clearly this approach points
to an unfavorable outcome for Arundel s investment. However, this approach assumes static
information and the absence of an option to choose only good projects.
The options valuation approach reveals a much different result. Using the values Rf=6%, a 3 year time
to maturity, and an estimated standard deviation of 50%, we get an NPV of $3.23 million on average
per film. Even taking into account potential changes in the standard deviation we get a range of $2.27
$4.16 million with standard deviation from 40 60%. See Exhibit 2 for calculations.
3. In the event of a hugely successful movie, the studio may want more compensation for the sequel
than agreed. Also, studios might potentially seek additional money from Arundel in the event of cost
overruns during the making of an initial film. In light of this, we would recommend that Arundel take
the following actions in formulating its contracts:
• In case of cost escalations, they are not responsible for overruns and have a right to refuse the share
of additional cost
• Negotiate a clause where they can back out of the sequel rights or sell the sequel rights to some
other investor
• Arundel Partners needs to negotiate that the script leaves room open for a sequel
• If the movie does not get made, Arundel gets back the sequel option money for the movie

The Causes of Hyperthyroidism Essay
The thyroid gland is found in the front of the neck and produces two main hormones. The hormones
are called thuroxine (T4) and Triiodothyronine (T3). Together these hormones regulate the body s
metabolism by increasing energy use in cells, regulate growth and development, help to maintain body
temperature and aid in oxygen consumption. These two hormones are regulated by hormones
produced by the hypothalamus and pituitary gland. The hypothalamus senses changes in body s
metabolic rate and releases a hormone known as thyropin releasing hormone (TRH). This hormone
then flows through connecting vessels to the pituitary gland which signals it to release another
hormone. This hormone is known as thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH). TSH then makes ... Show

The main cause of hyperthyroidism Graves disease which affects quite a few people in the general
population. This disease is characterized as an autoimmune disorder. This means that the body makes
antibodies known as thyroid stimulating immunoglobulin that bind and over activate the production of
thyroid hormones [3]. So in essence the antibody mimics the thyroid stimulating hormone and when
the negative feedback loop is in affect the antibody still binds to the thyroid and T3 and T4 are over
produced [2].
Thyroid nodules are lumps in the thyroid often called adenomas. These adenomas are quite common
affecting around seven percent our countries population. These lumps on the thyroid can become very
active and thus produce a large amount of thyroid hormone. In some cases hyperthyroidism is brought
on by consuming too much medication that treats an underactive thyroid.
There are many causes of hyperthyroidism, but the symptoms of hyperthyroidism are the same no
matter what causes the over expression of thyroid hormones. The main symptoms of hyperthyroidism
are fatigue, shortness of breath, weak muscles, anxiety, difficulty sleeping and heart palpitations.
Interestingly, even with an increase in appetite the patient will have weight loss.
There are many factors that may increase the risk of acquiring hyperthyroidism. One of the most
important factors is that women are at a much higher risk of developing hyperthyroidism than men,
about ten fold higher risk than

The United States grew at a dramatic rate between the years 1880 and 1900, within the cities. U.S.
cities grew by approximately 15 million people in the two decades before 1900. Many historians claim
that most of the population growth was due to the expansion of industry. It is also believed that the
majority of the population explosion was immigrants that were arriving from all over the world. A
good amount of people from the rural areas of America also moved to the cities during this period in
the search of work. Between 1880 and 1890, it is suggested that almost 40 percent of the townships in
the United States lost population because of migration. Historians suggest that Americans that where

Environmental Ethics And Environmental Safety
Environmental ethics can be formally defined in many sources as the study of human interaction with
nature. In a business sense, however, environmental ethics is concerned with the business duty or
responsibility to protect our overall environment. Our society is beginning to become more involved
with the environmental movement. Because of this, people are more concerned with the companies
and businesses that they support in regards to their concern towards our environment. Some argue that
businesses should be attempting to protect our environment over and above what is required by United
States Law. Doesn t it seem the only ethical thing to do? In this paper I will elaborate about
environmental compliance obligations, businesses and environmental ethics movements, as well as
what companies have been trying to do to become more ethical when it comes to our environment that
goes above and beyond the law. The survival and growth of green businesses in the U.S. is
increasingly large. Environmental compliance obligations are monitored by the EPA, or the
Environmental Protection Agency. Their basic mission is quite simplistic in that they need to protect
human health and the overall environment. EPA, state, local and tribal agencies work together to
ensure compliance with environmental laws passed by Congress, state legislatures and tribal
governments (Introduction: Environmental Enforcement and Compliance, n.d.). These groups all work

Have you ever been in a rush, low on cash, and looking for something to eat so you didn t really have
a choice but to grab a burger with fries at your local fast food place? Have you ever paused or stopped
to think about where the burger really came from, or the process that went in to be made? The Food
Inc documentary investigates and exposes the American industrial production of meat, grains, and
vegetables. Robert Kenner the producer of the film makes allegations in this film and he explores how
food industries are deliberately hiding how and where it is our food is coming from. He emphasizes
that we should find out where our food comes from and why is it that the food industry does not want
us to know. Food Inc. does not only uses compelling images, such as hundreds of baby chickens being

farmers, families, government officials, and victims of the food industry. The four current problems

Theme Of Beatrice In Much Ado About Nothing
Shakespeare established Beatrice s character in order to bring to the stage opposition to the typical
woman of the Elizabethan era and shed light on gender inequality. Hero seems to be the optimal
woman, polite, obedient, and quiet. She supports societies patriarchal views, submitting first to her
father, who commands her to accept Claudio s hand when he proposes, and submissive to her new
fiancé, even after he publicly humiliates her. Beatrice, on the other hand, is cynical, sharp, witty, and a
feisty woman. A woman legitimately criticizing a man does not go with gender roles in this society,
and therefore Leonato feels the need to cover it up, belittling and dismissing what Beatrice has to say
her honest opinion of Benedick. The same issue seems to arise when Beatrice and Benedick banter
back and forth. Beatrice takes jabs at Benedick s character, and unable to handle a woman insulting
him, he gives up, or cops out. Beatrice stands out as a character in Much Ado about nothing because
she is a proud, strong female character, rare during Shakespeare s time. She refuses to marry because
she hasn t found a perfect equal partner and is unwilling to submit her control and freedom to a
husband. She yearns to be equal with men, something that challenges the gender inequality of
Elizabethan time.
The way Shakespeare has the men view the women characters in Much Ado About Nothing also gives
insight into Elizabethan gender equality as well. Throughout the play, women

  • 8. Australian Foreign Policy And Australia s Relations With... Australian foreign policy is characterised by a series of significant issues that are all inter related. This piece will focus on Australia s relationship with the US, Asylum Seeker policy and Australia s relations with Asia. Relationship with the US Australia has had a long and close relationship with the United States. US Australian relations are underpinned by the ANZUS treaty, finalised in 1951. The relationship is underpinned by shared values, culture, social bonds and common strategic interests. However, the partnership has become a problem within Australian foreign policy for a variety of reasons. Firstly, there is concern regarding the responsibilities we have placed upon ourselves as an Ally. Although we are not obligated to join the US in war, we are consistently following them into overseas conflicts that we otherwise have no interest in. As it currently stands, Australia has fought in numerous wars alongside the United States in the years since the conception of the ANZUS treaty, and we are yet to win one. Australia appears to be under the impression that we are under the military protection of the US, and this is often stated as a reason for maintaining close ties with the global power. This is simply not the case; our partnership does not force either party to come to the aid of the other. The United States will not come to our defence in the case of a conflict unless it is within their own interests. Secondly, our alliance with the US has placed a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Critique Of The Cadian Ball During the late 1800s, many new ideas came with the industrial revolution. With these ideas came thoughts on how to change the way our sociality was working. Writers especially brought out the opinions of they these radical ideas, by writing and spreading these ideas. At the Cadian Ball fails to advocate a change in the social system, by mixing races and classes, but at the same time, and supports the norm of marring someone of your own class, by have all four of the main characters marry into the same class. Within the story all the characters speak the same language, giving everyone an equal ground, showing that everyone has something in common. During the story the narrator tells us, They belonged to the younger generation, so preferred to speak English. (Chopin 6). This tells us that they all speak the same language, with shows that they are all similar, but we can also infer that because they state that they do this because they are younger, that the older generations, did not do this and strengthened the divide between classes by speaking different languages. The Cadian Ball advocates a change in the social class by featuring multi class and race couples, but does not fully support the statement by having the characters marry others of their class. They talked low, and laughed softly, as lovers do. (6) Alcee and Calixta are stated as lovers, even though this is the 1800s, there is a mixed race couple, but the story doesn t portray this negative. They also show ... National Sovereignty, Oppressive Government, and the US Role in the World Introduction The American attack against Afghanistan that was triggered by the September 11th tragedy once again raised the question of US role in the world. The current military intervention also touched the issue of the major factors, defining the course of US international policy. In the globalized world today the ratio of soft power (the ability to attract through cultural and ideological appeal) to hard power (a country s economic and military ability to buy and coerce) used in solving international conflicts is constantly increasing (Nye 2). However, military campaigns still provide a way out of deepening international crises. Should ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since one could argue what US end goals actually are, I will assume that peace, democracy, and freedom are absolute values and always better than war and oppression. They should, therefore, be the final targets of every international act. Unfortunately, so far, as I will show by examples, this target has rarely been reached. Second, the US government and the entire nation, seem less and less eager to risk the lives of American soldiers as well as billions of dollars for causes that are not directly related to America s national security or its geo political and economic interests. This fact is particularly important, having in mind the dependence in every democratic country of policy makers on the public opinion. Finally, the US interventions are likely to create a climate of animosity against America and its allies among states whose sovereignty has been violated by US military campaigns. The costs of such a negative climate might eventually fall upon future American generations and bring forth real threats to the world peace. With all these factors in mind, I argue that USA s violation of a state s sovereignty could be justified only by an extremely blatant and absolutely intolerable violation of human rights or hostile actions, endangering US sovereignty. Likewise, oppressive government s policies, unless overtly anti human or directed against US vital interests, should not be a reason for military intervention. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

With the overwhelming facts to the heartfelt stories Josh Fox exposes viewers to the damage that is yet to come. This movie was so effective as opposed to other climate documentaries because Fox explains the human aspects of climate change. Traveling to twelve countries on six continents he explains how ocean warming, sea level rise, and air quality are already negatively affecting people in their everyday lives. People don t connect with facts, people connect with people. This is something I am realizing is critical in getting others on board with sustainability initiatives and to re think the role we play as consumers. After graduating I want to work as a sustainability director for a large company. At the start of my sustainability journey I am discovering that the most essential part of a sustainability director s job is to be personable. People will be more likely to implement change when they realize how it benefits or affects them and their organization. Without effective communication, projects will never be funded, ideas will not be considered, and it is less likely that your impact will be as substantial as it could. As a sustainability advocate, it will be my job to promote and implement initiatives that will help us now, but also generations to come will feel those effects. Josh Fox shows it is the grassroot groups and people stepping up to protect our planet because they know it is necessary. I have developed the mindset, if not me than who? Out of all ten of the things that climate can t change, I believe that the most important one is resilience. As sustainability professionals, it is a fact of life that you will be told no. But the key is moving on from that. You can not get yourself worked up just because things didn t play out how we want. We can also not let getting told no beat us down, not everyone understands or wants to understand the environmental catastrophes that are upon us. With this in mind, we should use getting told no to drive us forward and work even harder on the next project we have. Resilience stood out to me in the movie when the Samoa tribe ... • 16. Determining The Double Helix Determining the Double Helix Deoxyribonucleic acid, commonly known as DNA, was first discovered by Johann Mieschere, a Swiss biologist, in 1869. He made the discovery while studying the nuclei of leukocytes, however the greater significance of this molecule and its structure would not be known until 1951. At that time, scientists did not know the function of DNA, let alone the structure. It was believed that the structure of the mysterious molecule would help uncover its true function. The structure of DNA was solved by James Watson and Francis Crick at the University Of Cambridge, England. They deduced that DNA was made up of chains of nucleotides with one of the four different bases: Adenine, Thymine, Guanine and Cytosine on the inside and its phosphate backbone on the outside, thus creating the double helix. This discovery could be considered the single most important finding that gave rise to the study of heredity and gene expression. However, Watson and Crick could not have revealed the three dimensional structure of DNA without the previous contributing research conducted by Erwin Chargaff, Phoebus Levene, and Rosalind Franklin. The first researcher that contributed to the discovery of the structure of DNA was Erwin Chargaff. Chargaff was an Austrian biochemist whose research led to the creation of Chargaff s Rules. These rules summarize the findings that the amount of Adenine (A) is always equal to the amount of Thymine (T). Similarly, the amount of Guanine (G) is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 17. Lisfranc Fracture-Dislocation Case Study The Lisfranc fracture dislocation is characterised as an injury of the tarsometatarsal joints of the foot. This region of the foot is prone to injury due to the lack of ligaments separating the bases of the first and second metatarsals (Bontrager Lampignano, 2010). The Lisfranc joint articulates between the cuneiforms and cuboid of the foot, along with the distal end of metatarsals, and separates the forefoot from the midfoot. The joint can be seen from three different views in Figure 1 of the appendix (Kalia, Fishman, Carrino, Fayad, 2011). The clinical indications of a Lisfranc fracture dislocation include oedema and tenderness in the area of the midfoot. The injury is usually caused by the foot being overly plantar flexed, and is often associated with vehicular accidents and sporting injuries (Scolaro, Ahn Mehta, 2011). According to ... However, the likelihood of obtaining posttraumatic arthritis is decreased dramatically if ORIF surgery is performed soon after initial injury. Othello and Iago s relationship, the most prominent relationship, represents the duality of the play. Othello believes that Iago is helping him and guiding him to be a better person; however, Iago is using Othello to get his way. Iago is annoyed that he didn t receive promotion from general Othello ( Relationships in Othello ). Iago is dissatisfied with Othello s choice because he believes he deserves the promotion. An interesting revelation is made concerning jihadist motivation by John Farmer in his book, The Ground Truth. Farmer notes that Osama bin Laden s initial concerns were focused in the Middle East. Graphene Is A Potential Candidate Material Graphene is a hexagonal two dimensional (2D) monolayer of honeycomb lattice packed carbon structure that was discovered and successfully isolated from bulk graphite just a few years ago [1]. It is continuously receiving attention from the research community due to its outstanding mechanical, thermal and electrical properties [2]. Due to its fascinating properties, graphene is emerging as a potential candidate material for enormous nano technological applications such as memory devices [3], nano sensors [4], nano actuators [5], field effect transistors (FFT) [3], gigahertz oscillators [6], energy production and storage [7], clean energy devices [3] and room temperature humidity sensing applications [8] etc. In addition to these applications, graphene also attracts prodigious attention as strengthening element in polymer based composites because it was reported to be the strongest material with outstanding elastic properties and high intrinsic strength [9 13]. Apparently, the important of these features depends on the structural perfection of the hexagonal graphene lattice and strong in plane sp2 bond between carbon atoms. His healthy sprints and bent in crosses from the right wing were always a boon for the team, may it be in the form of a assistance to David Beckham on the wing in the earlier days, or for assistance to the hungry strikers in the box. He announced his retirement earlier this year, starting almost a competition for his position in the team between another set of brothers, the da Silva twins, Rafael and Fabio, who have both shown their worth throughout the season, fighting each other for that spot in the starting line up. #3 Patrice Evra Having succeeded Gary s younger brother Phillip Neville in that shirt, Evra has emerged on the scene almost immediately, thus, cementing his position on the left back side of the field. It explains how the U.S. military initially entered to assist with the humanitarian efforts but the scope of the mission changed when United Nations personnel were killed. It also focuses on why the United States military went after the leader of the Habr Gidr clan, Muhammad Farah Aidid, who was responsible for the deaths and killings that occurred during the humanitarian mission. The United Task Force was developed allowing the United States to finally capture and arrest, Muhammad Farah Aidid, which is explained in Black Hawk Down. Knossos is located about twenty minutes south of the modern port town of Iraklion. The British Archaeologist Arthur Evans, the man who excavated the site in 1900 AD restored parts of the palace in a way that it is possible today to appreciate the grandeur and complexity of a structure that evolved over several millennia and grew to occupy about 20,000 square meters. According to Greek mythology, the palace was designed with such complexity by famed architect Dedalos that no one placed in it could ever find its exit. The architect was then kept prisoner by King Minos to ensure that he would not reveal the palace plan to anyone. The Palace of Knossos was discovered by Minos Kalokairinos in 1878. • 31. Richard Wasserstrom s Ideal Society Everyone has their own definition of what a perfect world would be. Richard Wasserstrom in Sex Roles and the Ideal Society states that in an assimilationist ideal society, a person s sex should be as unimportant as eye color is in our society today.1 But should we just ignore a person s sex all together to make the world equal? A different opinion from Phyllis Schlafly in The Power of the Positive Woman states that sex should be a relevant factor in family roles and social roles.² But should a person s sex completely dictate what they can or cannot do within their family and in society? In this paper I will argue that Wasserstrom s ideal society will not work because I think that eventually humans would naturally make general gender roles based on the different activities that each sex excels in. I agree, to some extent, with Schlafly s that sex should be a relevant factor with reference to roles in the family and society. In my ideal society, there would be a balance in social and family roles, which would be based on an individual s personal strengths and weaknesses. In this utopia, complete equality is possible, unlike in Wasserstrom s and Schlafly s. Wasserstrom s supports the conclusion that to allocate social roles to individuals based on their sex is inherently unjust. He goes through different arguments as to why he thinks we should do away with sex roles. One argument was that within these roles are not the behaviors we would be naturally, but due to these ... History of the Origins of Environmental Ethics Essay History of the Origins of Environmental Ethics The inspiration for environmental ethics was the first Earth Day in 1970 when environmentalists started urging philosophers who were involved with environmental groups to do something about environmental ethics. An intellectual climate had developed in the last few years of the 1960s in large part because of the publication of two papers in Science: Lynn White s The Historical Roots of our Ecologic Crisis (March 1967) and Garett Hardin s The Tragedy of the Commons (December 1968). Most influential with regard to this kind of thinking, however, was an essay in Aldo Leopold s A Sand County Almanac, The Land Ethic, in which Leopold explicitly claimed that the roots of the ecological ... In 1975 environmental ethics came to the attention of mainstream philosophy with the publication of Holmes Rolston, III s paper, Is There an Ecological Ethic? in Ethics. Arne Naess, a Norwegian philosopher and the founding editor of the journal Inquiry authored and published a paper in Inquiry The Shallow and the Deep, Long Range Ecology Movement in 1973, which was the beginning of the deep ecology movement. Important writers in this movement include George Sessions, Bill DeVall, Warwick Fox, and, in some respects, Max Oelschlaeger. Throughout the 1970s Inquiry was the primary philosophy journal that dealt with enviornmental ethics. Environmental ethics was, for the most part, considered a curiousity and mainstream philosophy journals rarely published more than one article per year, if that. Opportunities for publishing dramatically improved in 1979 when Eugene C. Hargrove founded the journal Environmental Ethics. The name of the journal became the name of the field. • 34. Arundel Case Essay Case 3: Arundel Partners 1. Arundel has an interesting idea to buy rights to movie sequels. Their theory is that they can make a profit by securing sequel rights and providing seed capital to films even before production starts, thus avoiding the asymmetric information problem that would arise as the film progresses and the studio gains more and more inside information about the film s prospects. Buying rights in advance allows Arundel to buy rights to the sequels of eventually successful movies much more cheaply than after their success is proved, and also eliminates any potential bidding wars that may arise for sequel rights to successful films. Furthermore, securing a (relatively) inexpensive option to potentially tremendously ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The DCF yields an average NPV of $2.41 million (please see Exhibit 1). Clearly this approach points to an unfavorable outcome for Arundel s investment. However, this approach assumes static information and the absence of an option to choose only good projects. The options valuation approach reveals a much different result. Using the values Rf=6%, a 3 year time to maturity, and an estimated standard deviation of 50%, we get an NPV of $3.23 million on average per film. Even taking into account potential changes in the standard deviation we get a range of $2.27 $4.16 million with standard deviation from 40 60%. See Exhibit 2 for calculations. 3. In the event of a hugely successful movie, the studio may want more compensation for the sequel than agreed. Also, studios might potentially seek additional money from Arundel in the event of cost overruns during the making of an initial film. In light of this, we would recommend that Arundel take the following actions in formulating its contracts: • In case of cost escalations, they are not responsible for overruns and have a right to refuse the share of additional cost • Negotiate a clause where they can back out of the sequel rights or sell the sequel rights to some other investor • Arundel Partners needs to negotiate that the script leaves room open for a sequel • If the movie does not get made, Arundel gets back the sequel option money for the movie ... • 35. The Causes of Hyperthyroidism Essay The thyroid gland is found in the front of the neck and produces two main hormones. The hormones are called thuroxine (T4) and Triiodothyronine (T3). Together these hormones regulate the body s metabolism by increasing energy use in cells, regulate growth and development, help to maintain body temperature and aid in oxygen consumption. These two hormones are regulated by hormones produced by the hypothalamus and pituitary gland. The hypothalamus senses changes in body s metabolic rate and releases a hormone known as thyropin releasing hormone (TRH). This hormone then flows through connecting vessels to the pituitary gland which signals it to release another hormone. This hormone is known as thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH). TSH then makes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The main cause of hyperthyroidism Graves disease which affects quite a few people in the general population. This disease is characterized as an autoimmune disorder. This means that the body makes antibodies known as thyroid stimulating immunoglobulin that bind and over activate the production of thyroid hormones [3]. So in essence the antibody mimics the thyroid stimulating hormone and when the negative feedback loop is in affect the antibody still binds to the thyroid and T3 and T4 are over produced [2]. Thyroid nodules are lumps in the thyroid often called adenomas. These adenomas are quite common affecting around seven percent our countries population. These lumps on the thyroid can become very active and thus produce a large amount of thyroid hormone. In some cases hyperthyroidism is brought on by consuming too much medication that treats an underactive thyroid. There are many causes of hyperthyroidism, but the symptoms of hyperthyroidism are the same no matter what causes the over expression of thyroid hormones. The main symptoms of hyperthyroidism are fatigue, shortness of breath, weak muscles, anxiety, difficulty sleeping and heart palpitations. Interestingly, even with an increase in appetite the patient will have weight loss. There are many factors that may increase the risk of acquiring hyperthyroidism. One of the most important factors is that women are at a much higher risk of developing hyperthyroidism than men, about ten fold higher risk than ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is also believed that the majority of the population explosion was immigrants that were arriving from all over the world. A good amount of people from the rural areas of America also moved to the cities during this period in the search of work. • 37. Environmental Ethics And Environmental Safety Environmental ethics can be formally defined in many sources as the study of human interaction with nature. In a business sense, however, environmental ethics is concerned with the business duty or responsibility to protect our overall environment. Our society is beginning to become more involved with the environmental movement. Because of this, people are more concerned with the companies and businesses that they support in regards to their concern towards our environment. Some argue that businesses should be attempting to protect our environment over and above what is required by United States Law. Doesn t it seem the only ethical thing to do? In this paper I will elaborate about environmental compliance obligations, businesses and environmental ethics movements, as well as what companies have been trying to do to become more ethical when it comes to our environment that goes above and beyond the law. The survival and growth of green businesses in the U.S. is increasingly large. Environmental compliance obligations are monitored by the EPA, or the Environmental Protection Agency. Their basic mission is quite simplistic in that they need to protect human health and the overall environment. EPA, state, local and tribal agencies work together to ensure compliance with environmental laws passed by Congress, state legislatures and tribal governments (Introduction: Environmental Enforcement and Compliance, n.d.). • 40. Theme Of Beatrice In Much Ado About Nothing Shakespeare established Beatrice s character in order to bring to the stage opposition to the typical woman of the Elizabethan era and shed light on gender inequality. Hero seems to be the optimal woman, polite, obedient, and quiet. She supports societies patriarchal views, submitting first to her father, who commands her to accept Claudio s hand when he proposes, and submissive to her new fiancé, even after he publicly humiliates her. Beatrice, on the other hand, is cynical, sharp, witty, and a feisty woman. A woman legitimately criticizing a man does not go with gender roles in this society, and therefore Leonato feels the need to cover it up, belittling and dismissing what Beatrice has to say her honest opinion of Benedick. The same issue seems to arise when Beatrice and Benedick banter back and forth. Beatrice takes jabs at Benedick s character, and unable to handle a woman insulting him, he gives up, or cops out. Beatrice stands out as a character in Much Ado about nothing because she is a proud, strong female character, rare during Shakespeare s time. She refuses to marry because she hasn t found a perfect equal partner and is unwilling to submit her control and freedom to a husband. She yearns to be equal with men, something that challenges the gender inequality of Elizabethan time. The way Shakespeare has the men view the women characters in Much Ado About Nothing also gives insight into Elizabethan gender equality as well. Throughout the play, women ...
