Comparing Emerson s Writings with Whitman s Writings
Emerson and Whitman
A commonality when comparing Emerson s writings with Whitman s writings are the use of the ideas
Emerson came up with integrated and used in Whitman s writing. It is clear that Emerson s writing
were a set of instructions for the Transcendentalist movement in addition to a lifestyle to try and attain
or rise up to for society. Emerson give guidelines and ideas on how people should function in society
largely based off of nature and its natural occurrence and set order. When Whitman starts writing, he
adopts Emerson s guidelines in order to become a great poet. In Transcendentalism, one of the
commonalities in the writing is the idea of nature as a beneficial part of the world. The natural world
to be precise is an underused and not understood piece of the world. Emerson and Whitman both saw
nature as a beneficial topic to study in their writings. Emerson and Whitman both studied and reflected
upon nature in order to understand lessons or basic guidelines that it could teach them about being
human. In Self Reliance and Song of Myself, it can be seen that if you are willing to study nature and
gain the knowledge it gives you to live your life lessons can be gained. Nature is not simply pretty
scenery to look at but if studied deeper it promotes a lifestyle. Particularly, for Emerson, nature is seen
as perfect because it is not tainted by the constructs or failures of man it is simply natural and
untouched. In addition, man s law has no power over

Roman Twelve Tables
The Roman republic had set a specific set of laws that each person was suppose to abide by. These set
of laws were known as the Twelve Tables. After reading the selections from the Twelve Tables, I
gather that the Roman society was very strict and harsh, and its conception of justice was more based
on punishment than it was on negotiating the situation and coming to a clear resolution. The Romans
were more blunt with their punishments, they saw black and white , no grey area when making
decisions in court, which means that everything was a yes or no, no one person had the opportunity to
talk about any of their crimes, it was straight to punishment, or if they were found to be not guilty then
they were not punished. In Table IV : Rights of Head of Family, it expresses just how cruel they were,
Quickly kill... a dreadfully deformed child (Spielvogel p. 116). In my opinion, this law is wicked
because no one should be killed just because of the way that they look, especially if they were born
that way and can not help it. Before the Twelve Tables, there were major problems and struggles. Both
of the groups, patricians and plebeians, were able to vote, but only the patricians were granted the
right to be elected to government positions. They were both able to make legal agreements and have
marriages, but it was forbidden for a patrician and a plebeian to intermarry. There was conflict amongst
Rome because everyone wanted the right to be equal, and they were not being treated

The Most Important Function Of Money
The most important function of money is that it serves as a medium of exchange. In a barter economy
it was difficult to exchange of goods since the exchange in a barter system required double
coincidence of wants. Money has removed this issue. Now goods can be sold between two parties.
Then the seller can use that money to buy goods they want from another party that have the goods
they want.
Another important function of money is that it serves as a common measure of value or a unit of
account. Under a barter economy there was no common measure of value in which the values of
different goods could be measured and compared with each other. Money has also resolved this
problem as well. Money serves as a way to measure the value of goods and services. As the value of
all goods and services is measured in a standard unit of money, their relative values can be easily
compared (Asmundson Oner, 2012).
Another function of money it that it serves as a standard for deferred payments. Deferred payments
mean those payments which are to be made in the future. If a loan is taken today, it would be paid
back after a period of time. The amount of loan is measured in terms of money and it is paid back in
money. A large number of credit transactions involving huge future payments are made daily. Money
performs this function of standard for deferred payments because its value remains more or less stable.
If the prices are falling, i.e., the value of money is rising, the creditors will

Role Of Customs And Border Protection
1 What is the role of Customs and Border Protection (CBP) in securing trade in maritime ports? The
role of the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is to ensure all goods and people coming into the
United States lawful and keeping contraband and WMD out of the United States. Additionally
Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is responsible for international trade in and out of the United
States. The policies and enforcement of the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) can make or break
trade within the United States. The sole goal of Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is to protect the
nations from all threats, while at the same time maintaining a balance trade between United States and
the rest of the world. Customs and Border ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

2 The Global Transportation System (GTS) has a big impact on just about every aspect of our daily
life. Certainly, Port Management Security is well aware of the economic impact and the threat of
disruption to the GTS. What are the four components of the GTS (air, sea, land, and rail transport
systems) and what are the subsequent critical infrastructure within each that support these components
of the GTS. The Global Transportation System (GTS) touches every aspect of human life. From the
food we eat to the clothes we wear, they are all moved within the Global Transportation System GTS.
Passenger travel from continent to continent using the Global Transportation System GTS. Even
troops and equipment for war is moved within the GTS. Simply without the GTS and its four
components of air, sea, land, and rail transports life would not be possible for much of the world. The
size of the GTS has continue to grow due to more business operating now on a global scale. In
addition, free trade through numerous agreements has open up opportunities worldwide. With the
amount of goods and people being moved, be able to secure port either air or surface becomes that
much difficult. The

Cause Of The French Revolution
A rebel is a person who defies authority. A rebellious person says, You can not do this to us, I disagree.
They are not afraid to stand up for what they believe in and say, This has been going on too long and it
needs to stop now. Now imagine the majority of the country, the majority of France all saying, this
needs to end now. That was the French Revolution. The third estate angry and poor, helpless and
furious together attack authority in rebellious ways. First, they attack the Bastille which was the
French jail and replace poor prisoners with elegant and rich aristocrats. Second, they formed The
National Assembly, which was the disagreement with the current government and a formation of a

man could be scented to death with the sign of a monarch signature on the Letter decatche within
milliseconds. It didn t matter if the man was harmless, he wasn t needed and that s what defined what
would happen to him (Vikram,Political). The rulers were cruel and selfish beginning with Louis XVI.
Louis XVI was a powerful monarch who participated in multiple wars and claimed I am the state
(Vikram,Political). After him monarch Louis VX took over who fought over seven wars against
England. The multiple wars indebted France and caused the French government to become bankrupt
(Vikram,Political). Another reason why France became bankrupt was because of Marie Antoinette,
who was the wife of king Louis XVI(Vikram,Political). She always interfered with political
agreements and decisions. She was known for her abuse of royal spending allowing France to have
multiple financial issues (Vikram,Political). France s bankruptcy and financial problems led to people
starving in the streets, only eating whatever scraps they could find. It led to even poorer and
contaminated living conditions, as well as multiple taxes to the government in order to pay off France
s debt (Vikram,Political). Bankruptcy left the economy unbearable, broken, and destroyed. If rights
and now health, money, and happiness were taken away, it left the people but one

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Hedge Fund
Since investors cannot invest in a gauge of the hedge fund universe, it is crucial to focus on the
performance of individual funds. Do individual hedge funds beat the market? Do they outperform
mutual funds? Academic literature on the performance on hedge funds does not provide a clear answer
as to whether hedge funds outperform the market. Moreover, there are a number of challenges facing
researchers wanting to explore this issue. Firstly, due to hedge fund s unregulated nature, unbiased
data is hard to retrieve since only a small number of hedge funds disclose their performance
voluntarily. This problem is referred to as the survivorship bias and refers to how the data available to
researchers might be skewed since only well performing hedge funds have the incentive to voluntarily
declare their earnings. Therefore, the data available will be missing those hedge funds that have been
shut down or liquidated (Ackerman, McEnally and Ravenscraft, 1999).The range of ... Show more

Hedge funds may have strategies that yield payoffs similar to those of a company which sells
earthquake insurance; most of the time the insurance company makes no payouts on its insurance
policies and has a nice profit, but from time to time disaster comes and the insurance company makes
large losses that may exceed its accumulative profits from good times. Though investors in an
insurance company know that it sells earthquake insurance, investors in hedge funds may find it
impossible to assess that the hedge fund takes the risk of large losses before these losses have
materialized. The general argument is that looking at past performance does not guarantee constant
future return because it may seem that a hedge fund has low volatility but at the same time there is a
high probability the fund may lose all its assets at once (Stulz,

Franklin D. Roosevelt vs. Barack Obama
Franklin D. Roosevelt vs. Barack Obama The economy of the 1930s was a devastating financial
situation that the American public will never forget. However, this doesn t mean that history will cease
to repeat itself. The political policies of Franklin Delano Roosevelt are often acknowledged for the
relief of our country s depression and some of which are still in effect today. To avoid our current
recession, will Barack Obama choose to base his policies off of FDR s in hopes that the same plan will

Advantages Of Twinning In Healthcare
Twinning is a concept that compares two similar groups, organizations, or people (Twinning, n.d.). In
the healthcare field, twinning often occurs between a rich country and a poor country that struggles
with providing healthcare to its citizens (MacDonagh, Jiddawi, Parry, 2002). Advantages of the
twinning program are regular contact and collaboration between the two countries as well as the
setting of goals with monitoring and adjustments being made as necessary (MacDonagh, et al., 2002).
Twinning programs among businesses and organizations follow the same goal setting and monitoring
as it does in the healthcare industry. With the twinning program established by ArcelorMittal, the
struggling Burns Harbor Mill was paired with a stronger

The Impact Of Henry Ford s Assembly Line System On...
Though the assembly line started over a hundred years ago, it is still revolutionary today. It has
majorly impacted the industrial world so greatly that businesses that did not gain the practice soon
became extinct, and it was also one key factor that assisted creating the automobile into American
society. Henry Ford s assembly line system was one of the most powerful changes that has affected
modern America and is still recognized today. Not only did he achieve developing the middle class so
anyone could afford his product, but he also broke the ideas of monopolies.
In the first place, some things that we have today wouldn t be here without Ford s assembly line.
Without the assembly line all cars would take a lot longer to manufacture and produce to people
around the nation. The middle class wouldn t have been known without the assembly line because
without the assembly line no workers will be paid $5 every working day. The assembly line is an
constructing process that has parts that are added as the product moves through the line that moves
from station to station where workers or now machines manufacture the product. The middle class
helped revolutionize the assembly line because Henry Ford was paying his workings double the
average factory wage at that time. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Six Circus Basilica
Circus Basilica: The Christian Circus But there stands close by another church, renowned for its
princely decoration, for the great multitude to enter then, a lofty church with towering walls, and a
great one by reason of its proud grandeur, and gifts made it rich (Prudentius, 319). One reading this
would assume that this building is just another church in Rome. In fact, the building that is described
in this quote is the basilica of S Lorenzo fuori le mura; one of the six, so far discovered basilicas that
are apse ended. Apart from this similarity, they all also have a lot of the dead buried within, under and
around them, and are usually situated around catacombs. The reason these basilicas are so

also argue that the circus basilicas were based on the circuses as a way to remember the athletes of
Christianity the martyrs that died in the circus for their cause; whose graves tended to be close to these
basilicas, of not named after

Edward Larson s Work Summer For The Gods
Throughout United States history, Americans have always remain separated on certain issues. Edward
Larson s work Summer for the Gods exemplifies just how issues split the population. Larson uses the
Scopes Trial of 1925 to demonstrate to the rivalry between modernists and traditionalists in the early
20th century. Charles Dawson discovered fossilized human bones known as the Piltdown skull and
bridged a gap in history that seemed to confirm Darwin s theory of evolution. Darwin s account of
random variations, coupled with his survival of the fittest selection process, posed a critical problem
for many Christians who retained a teleological view of nature. (Larson, 17) This threat to Christian
spirituality sparked an anti evolution movement in an attempt to revoke the teachings of evolution in
public school systems. The Tennessee House of Representatives soon passed a statute making it illegal
for any public school official to teach any theory that rejected the divine creation of man as taught in
the Bible. The Scopes Trial would prove to be more than an argument between science and religion
and the removal of textbook content. It was individual rights versus the right of majority rule, freedom
of speech versus censorship, and evolution versus creationism. At the turn of the century,
traditionalists were making an effort to combat the teachings of evolution. The anti evolution
movement originated for many reasons. First, as a response to new scientific evidence that

Obligation In Disney s The Little Mermaid
I want to be where the people are. I wanna see, wanna see them dancing . Ariel from Disney s The
Little Mermaid embodies a girl that is stuck in a world that she does not wish to be in. She wants to
get out of her home, the ocean, and be able to experience the outside world and all of the opportunities
that come with it. Ariel is trapped by her father and that fact that she has a mermaid tail instead of
legs. Many people often have similar experiences where they feel stuck in a situation, meeting, or
class. He or she may sing to themselves that same thing that Ariel vocalizes. The obstacles that

as they believe that she cannot change. Emily s countless instances of stubbornness lead the
townspeople to conclude that she is beyond their help. This negatively impacts Emily as they do not

The Irrigation Systems At Universities
At universities across America, and especially at a southern school such as Baylor, water is used in
vast amounts each year, leading to large utility bills as well as a high carbon footprint. Therefore the
irrigation systems at universities must be highly efficient in order to not be wasteful. Unfortunately, at
Baylor we have major irrigation issues. The sprinklers overwater areas of the grass, leaving bog like
areas that are unsavory for anyone passing by, and many of the sprinklers rotate too far, therefore
watering large portions of the sidewalks, not only wasting water, but also annoying teachers and
students. If it was possible to reduce the amount of water used by Baylor then it would not only be
able to reduce its yearly utility bill by a substantial amount, but also enables Baylor to be better
stewards of the Earth by saving water and reducing its carbon footprint. In order to save water Baylor
has to make efforts to fix the irrigation system. I propose a that Baylor hires the landscaping crew to
find areas on campus where the grass is being overwater, reduce the amount of water going to those
areas, and also fix the rotation on sprinklers that require readjustment in order to keep the water on the
grass. In regards to the importance of an efficient Baylor irrigation system, Paul Clare, the marketing
manager of Facilities and Energy at Baylor had this to say:
In accordance with its Christian mission and vision, Baylor University strives to be a community that

Taking a Look at a Whooping Cough
What is Whooping cough?
Whooping cough is a bacterial upper respiratory infection that leads to episodes of violent coughing.
The disease got its name because of the characteristic sound that is made when affected individuals
attempt to inhale; the whoop originates from the inflammation and swelling of the voice box that
vibrates when too much air comes in when one breathes after coughing. (Medline plus) Whooping
cough is a very contagious disease. It spreads through close contact that includes a transferring of oral
secretions or respiratory droplets from one person to another. So it s easily spread through the cough,
especially when people are in close contact, like living in the same house with a person who has
whooping cough. It can also spread through sneezes or anything that causes a secretion of respiratory
fluids. (CDC) the people whom can be affected are children who have not been immunized or people
whose last shot of the immunization was done ten or more years previously. There is evidence that
suggests the first outbreaks I whooping cough occurred in the 16th century. The bacterium that causes
the infection was not found until the beginning of the 1900 s.
Why target whooping cough?
Whooping cough is most commonly found in infants. If a child were to obtain whooping cough within
the first three months of his or her life, the infant is highly likely to be killed by the disease. The
reason for this is because of how difficult it is to identify. It starts out

American Sniper Analysis
How does Clint Eastwood generate emotional response in American Sniper (2014) I am going to

The audience feel that this is the way that all snipers behave and provides them with an insight in to
the emotions, or lack of emotions, that they need to become effective killers. The main sound that the
audience hear throughout the scene is the heavy breathing from Bradley Cooper. This sound effect
helps to increase the tension that the viewer feels and also emphasises the importance of breath control
for a sniper. Anyone with any knowledge on snipers knows they take deep breaths to focus their shots
and stop the sway of the rifle. The inclusion of this sound effect and the acting fit all the conventions
of a sniper and make Cooper s performance feel real. When the shot changes to a close upshot of the
finger on the trigger slowly pulling it builds the tension as the viewers are left wondering whether or
not he will shoot or whether the Taliban soldier will drop the weapon. The colour palette for the
selected scene in American sniper is a desert yellow and dull colours for the surrounding areas.
Bradley Cooper s outfit for this scene is an American marine desert storm uniform. This is a mix
between yellow and brown which blends perfectly into the set. The set in American sniper seems well
thought out as the area around the cross hair is secluded and there is nothing around this creates the
atmosphere that they are out in the open and the sniper can see

Analysis Of The Poem Pied And Blackberry Picking
Nature is explored in a number of different ways in Pied Beauty , Pike and Blackberry Picking . The
poems all focus on different sides to nature. All three poems focus on the beauty of nature but Pike
and Blackberry Picking on a more negative side to nature. Nature is praised in each of the three poems
but all have very different meanings and perspectives on nature.
Hopkins Poem Pied Beauty explores nature s beauty. It s described as the perfect place. The poem
begins with Glory be to god and ends with Praise god . The poem is almost a prayer that is thanking
god for nature as it is so beautiful. Hopkins also talks about the rose moles on the trout as they swim.
This shows that God took the time to create such small ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This clearly shows nature s brutality and unforgivingness. Suddenly there were two. Finally one
describes three pike that were caught and how one of which ate the other two. The pike doesn t care
who it eats. It is made to kill;even if it s their relative, it will do whatever it has to, to survive.
Seamus Heaney s Blackberry Picking also presents the beauty of nature however in contrast to Hughes
and Hopkins, Heaney s poem explores man s relationship with nature as a resource and how man
exploits it and becomes greedy. The poem itself is about when Heaney was much younger and would
go blackberry picking. It begins very positively but the second stanza ends the poem negatively
containing sorrow and regret. The blackberries are described as a glossy purple clot suggesting their
attractive beauty. The clot does also represent bloodshed. The word glossy shows the shiny surface of
the skin and clot is describing the big juicy size of it creating a lust for picking it. Man s greed is a
dominant theme throughout the poem as the speaker has a lust for picking as the blackberry s flesh
was sweet . The speaker wanted more of the fruit because they were so nice but soon the sweet flesh
turned sour in the second stanza, which creates disillusionment and unhappiness.
Both Pied Beauty and Blackberry Picking use metaphors and similes to convey nature s beauty by
comparing two things.

Comparison Of Friendship Between Of Mice And Men
Friendship from Of Mice and Men and Friendship In an Age of Economics
In the modern age friendship comes in many different shapes and sizes. There s the good and there s
the bad. You might even find some types of friendships surprising, for example an entrepreneurial
relationship . In the book Of Mice and Men Lennie and George are friends, but not very good friends.
George is unfortunately friends with Lennie for the wrong reasons.
Friendship, according to Aristotle there are 3 definitions of friendship. Friendship of Utility, thus
friends whose affection is based on utility do not love each other in themselves, but in so far as some
benefit accrues to them from each other. Friendship of Pleasure, And similarly with those whose
friendship is based on pleasure: for instance, we enjoy the society of witty people not because of what
they are in themselves, but because they are agreeable to us. Friendship of the Good. The perfect form
of friendship is that between the good, and those who resemble each other in virtue. For these friends
wish each alike the other s good in respect of their goodness, and they are good in themselves; but it is
those who wish the good of their friends for their friends sake who are friends in the fullest sense,
since they love each other for themselves and not accidentally. Hence the ... Show more content on

dreaming. Descartes claims that there is no way to indubitably know the truth of our external
environment, however it is indubitable that there is an internal being or self. Whether it is based on a
personal experience or someone else s, one can agree that all of the factors given could result in
skewed knowledge. Aristotle once said that, our senses can be trusted but they can be easily fooled.
Because our senses can be so easily deceived, trustworthiness is perhaps not the best trait to award it
with. The eyes and mind can always play tricks on you. One often comes by optical illusions in which
one line looks longer than another when they are both the same size, or circles appear to be spinning
when they are actually still, or numerous other kinds of these tests. Our eyes trick us constantly into
believing things to be happening when they are not. For example, young kids claim to see monsters or
ghosts in their rooms at night because their eyes and mind trick them into seeing these creatures. Once
on a ghost hunting TV show, one of the hosts addressed a common

The Scopes Trial Was Caused By Political Factors
Can you imagine not learning how to multiply or divide or anything else that you find necessary to
help you succeed in school? Then maybe you can visualize living in the state of Tennessee, where
public schools could not teach Darwin s Theory of Evolution. It all started when the teachers Butler
Act was passed, it banned the teaching of the Evolution. Most people were indignant because of how
the law favored those who acclaimed the bible. The conviction of John Scopes in the Scopes Trial was
caused by political factors like the laws passed and the trial itself, the geographic factors such as the
location also known as the Bible Belt and lastly the primary factor is social factors, such as religious
beliefs.
Politics influenced the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The mistake had not been that Scopes was guilty because of the judges preference over the
prosecution, but it was that Scopes has been over fined. While many resented the law, the government
did not withdraw the law, Despite its far reaching implications, public universities ignored the bill, and
the Governor, whom some expected would veto it, signed it into law...He understood it for what it
was, a symbolic protest against the undarmining of religion by science, (The Scopes). This shows that
even though many people did not like the law because of its relation to Christianity the like remained.
The Governor did not sign the law for the purpose to better the state, but because he did not like the
idea of religion and science overlapping. Like the politic factors, geographic location also played a
factor in the conviction of John Scopes.
The geographic factors such as the location, history and climate influenced the conviction in many
ways. The trial s location had a major effect because the people who live Tennessee and the extensive
area are religious. Tennessee, the location where the trial was held was in the Bible Belt, The Bible
Belt region stretches from Northern Texas to Western North Carolina. In the Bible Belt region, more
conservative Christians live there than other places in the

The Negative Impacts Of The Reformation
The Reformation was perhaps the greatest religious movement in Christ since the early church. It
revived the Biblical and New Testament thoeological studies. b) a negative effect of the reformation
could be the disunity of the church. When the church was all one, we at least had some since of
fellowship. But now, all of the churches have their own little groups and we condemn other churches
for not being the same as your denomination. We should all come together as a body of Christ and
unify instead of break apart. c) Although Christians can believe indifferent doctrines, the way we serve
God doesn t necessarily matter if you believe he died for your sins. If we can come together and can
be unified in our faith, then I believe Christ will expand to different people. Also, if you have faith,
then you should have unity, and vise versa. d) There is a time for division in the body of Christ. When
a church group is denying scripture and, after being confronted, still continues their same practice,
then it is time to break fellowship with that group. This has happened with the Metropolitan
Community Church denomination which openly advocates the support of homosexuality. Also, there
is an Evangelical Lutheran church that is thinking about accepting homosexual relationships into
church. At this point it is ok to draw the line and say enough is enough. e) Tolerance has to do with
permitting and allowing, and putting up with, while love is active and has to do with concern for

When Is Human Cloning Wrong
In February 1997, the scientific world was forever changed by the announcement of the birth of Dolly
the Sheep, the first mammal cloned from an adult cell (Jones 160). For the first time in medical
history, science allowed for the possibility of human cloning. With this development came the concern
that scientists would not only speculate about human cloning, but actually seek to attempt it. Such a
prospect generates ethical unease from both the public and Christian community. From a Christian
perspective, human cloning creates concerns for the well being of a cloned child or embryo and usurps
God s plan for human dominion. Human cloning would not be compatible with Christian ethics. In
this essay, any reference to the word clone may be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therapeutic cloning holds the potential to treat illnesses like heart and kidney disease, but the methods
require that human embryos be destroyed for the benefit of others (Hansen Schotsman 76). The Bible
directly states that killing is a sin (NIV Bible, Exodus 20:13). Although some may argue that using an
embryo for medicine is not murder, therapeutic cloning create embryos (the very first stage of
humanness) for the sole purpose of harvesting the stem cells, thus ending the budding life of said
embryo. This process certainly reflects a form of killing, even if it is only the destruction of an
incredibly early human form. Additionally, taking advantage of human embryos disobeys Jesus
command to love one another (NIV Bible, John 13:34). Jones states that therapeutic cloning
[undermines] the welfare and dignity of human embryos, which as the weakest and most vulnerable of
human beings should under no circumstances be experimented upon (174). No situation could justify
the exploitation of human embryos for the medicinal benefits of therapeutic

The Negative Effects Of Technology On The Family
The Effects of Technology on the Family
Technology has advanced over the years and is starting to be used more often by families on a daily
basis for work, school, leisure, and for social interaction. In today s modern society, it is not
uncommon to see a technological device in someone s possession. In fact, a recent study done in 2016
found that technology is more prevalent than we might realize with 98 percent of adults between the
ages 18 and 29 owning a cell phone and 85 percent of those cell phones being smart phones (Stein,
Osborn, Greenberg, 2016). This lit review examines the effect that technology has on family
relationships. Technology has an important place in American families, but it can easily take up
valuable time that can be spent having face to face interactions. In 2013 children ages 8 to 18 years
old spent approximately 7.5 hours a day looking at a screen, and when looking at the same age group
back in 1999 children only spent 5 hours a day using technology (Sanders, Parent, Forehand,
Breslend, 2016). Family bonding experiences can be influenced if children and parents are frequent
users of technology. A very recent study conducted this year found that social media is used daily by
75 percent of adults ages 18 29 using it and 66 percent of older adult ages 30 39 using it as well
(Haslam, Tee, Baker, 2017). Research shows that, in the United States, 173 billion text messages were
sent monthly by 293 million cell phone subscribers, according to mid year 2010 data. That s about 20
daily text messages per subscriber (Isaiah, Williams, Byron, 2011, p.66). Technology use is growing
every year and, as noted earlier, the younger generation is spending additional time on it than before.
The availability of technology such as cell phones and computers are made available to almost every
household, makes this a trending topic (Hertlein, 2012). It is important to focus further research into
how this growing trend of digital use affects the families that are using it, and how it affects them
personally, their family relationships, and family life in general. The research for this topic could be
used to help parents adjust screen time for their family and help them to understand how technology

Within the health care field, planning and budgeting is a requirement to have a successful business.
Budgeting can be defined as the creation and use of financial forecasts to plan for and control business
s operations. (Gapenski, 2013). In other words budgeting is planning your finances based on how
much money you have or make. Within organizations there are different types of budget types such as
revenue budgets, expense budget, and operating budget. Revenue Budgets within the health care field
are defined as the listing of expected revenues of an organization usually on a monthly, quarterly, and

Don Freeman s Corduroy
The children s book, Corduroy, written and illustrated by Don Freeman, tells the story of a teddy bear,
named Corduroy. Corduroy no longer wants to sit on the shelf in the department, he wants a new
home. One day, a girl named, Lisa, comes along and wants to buy Corduroy, but her mother tells her
no. Her mother says no because she does not want to spend anymore money and that the teddy bear is
missing a button. The two major themes of this book is friendship and hard work. Lisa took one look
at Corduroy and knew she wanted to take him home. Unfortunately, her mother would not let her
because she did not have any money and Corduroy was missing a button. Corduroy ventures all over
the store in search of his button. He is dedicated to finding his button, but he is not the only dedicated
one. Lisa goes home and empties her piggy bank and her mother lets her bring Corduroy home. The
theme of hard work is shown in Corduroy s determination to find his button and Lisa s determination
to bring Corduroy home. The theme of friendship is between Corduroy and Lisa. They may not know
each other, but Lisa still wants to make Corduroy her friend. You must be a friend, said Corduroy, I ve

A Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor
First, the identification of a licensed chemical dependency counselor would suffice at the moment. A
licensed chemical dependency counselor are counselors that specialize in identifying and treating
addictive behaviors that are maladaptive, altered from cognitive imbalance, and from physiological
discrepancies, or frequent intoxication to achieve homeostasis or functionality to some extent. In other
words, licensed chemical dependency counselors establish and implement treatments to help people
cure their addictions from substances which they are chemically dependent on. Second, the nature of
chemical dependency is to be acknowledged. The nature of chemical dependency is not very well
understood by human population. Many people see addictions as diseases, immoral behaviors or sins,
as maladaptive behaviors, and some may view such substance dependence as out of control behaviors
as well. However, chemical or substance dependency is a mental issue. The mind tells the body that it
needs a certain substance to function, it is a craving that is difficult for the body to ignore, and the
body cannot function until such a need is met. The change in behaviors, mood and conscious
motivates the mind further to continue finding ways to meet this need. Therefore, there is not only an
addiction, but a chemical dependency issue as well. It is strong and difficult to defeat. It is strong
enough that it may cause some people to conduct criminal activities or infringe upon the rights and

The Church Of Jesus Christ
Commonly referred to as Mormons, though they prefer to be known as Latter day Saints. The Church
of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints was formed in the first half of the nineteenth century by its
founder, Joseph Smith. Smith was said to have been visited by God, the Father, and Jesus Christ after
retreating to the woods to pray for guidance. At the time there were multiple competing facets of
Christianity and Smith was unsure which to join. To answer his question, God and Jesus Christ told
him not to join any of the churches, but to restore the one true church. After Jesus s crucifixion, Latter
day Saints believe the original church fell after followers argued over his teachings leading to the loss
of his true message. Later, Smith was visited by an angel named Moroni, who announced the
existence of two gold plates for him to find. The plates were in an unknown language so, through God
s assistance, Smith translated the plates into English. Once they had been translated, the plates were
taken back by the angel. The translation of the plates came to be known as the Book of Mormon,
which is the groundwork of the church for Latter day Saints. Smith and his followers, due to the
hostility from the local population in New York, left to settle westward where they could practice their
religion freely. Along the journey, Smith was murdered by a mob for his religious beliefs, but his
follower continued on and settled in Utah. On February 14th, I interviewed Kevin Anderson at The

Analysis Of The Movie Rampart
The movie, Rampart, which is set in Los Angeles in 1999 and focused on the life of 24 year veteran
Officer Dave Brown of the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) as a part of the Rampart division.
He is a man of his own breed who follows his own code of justice disregarding the solid line that
stands between right and wrong. Brown is prone to using violence and intimidation to maintain his
own idea that he is the unnoticed, underappreciated vigilante for the public. Although he has a hero
complex, he does not seem to form intimate emotional connections, even though he was married to
two women (both of which are sisters) and has a daughter by each woman. Neither of the women
seemed to feel any emotional connection to Brown seeing as they all live together for the sake of the
children, regardless of the obvious fact that his children do not seem to have a strong bond with him
either. Years earlier Brown was involved in the death of a suspected serial rapist, which put the police
department under stress as well as earned him the nickname Date Rape Dave . To further the spotlight
on the LAPD and Officer Brown, a video was aired on the local television stations of Brown
unnecessarily beating an individual who crashed into the back of his police vehicle. An assistant DA
pressures and urges Brown to retire to try and prevent the police department from undergoing more
fire and speculation from the public. The actions of Brown thrusts a tear in the relationship between

  • 2. Comparing Emerson s Writings with Whitman s Writings Emerson and Whitman A commonality when comparing Emerson s writings with Whitman s writings are the use of the ideas Emerson came up with integrated and used in Whitman s writing. It is clear that Emerson s writing were a set of instructions for the Transcendentalist movement in addition to a lifestyle to try and attain or rise up to for society. Emerson give guidelines and ideas on how people should function in society largely based off of nature and its natural occurrence and set order. When Whitman starts writing, he adopts Emerson s guidelines in order to become a great poet. In Transcendentalism, one of the commonalities in the writing is the idea of nature as a beneficial part of the world. The natural world to be precise is an underused and not understood piece of the world. Emerson and Whitman both saw nature as a beneficial topic to study in their writings. Emerson and Whitman both studied and reflected upon nature in order to understand lessons or basic guidelines that it could teach them about being human. In Self Reliance and Song of Myself, it can be seen that if you are willing to study nature and gain the knowledge it gives you to live your life lessons can be gained. Nature is not simply pretty scenery to look at but if studied deeper it promotes a lifestyle. Particularly, for Emerson, nature is seen as perfect because it is not tainted by the constructs or failures of man it is simply natural and untouched. In addition, man s law has no power over ... • 3. Roman Twelve Tables The Roman republic had set a specific set of laws that each person was suppose to abide by. These set of laws were known as the Twelve Tables. After reading the selections from the Twelve Tables, I gather that the Roman society was very strict and harsh, and its conception of justice was more based on punishment than it was on negotiating the situation and coming to a clear resolution. The Romans were more blunt with their punishments, they saw black and white , no grey area when making decisions in court, which means that everything was a yes or no, no one person had the opportunity to talk about any of their crimes, it was straight to punishment, or if they were found to be not guilty then they were not punished. In Table IV : Rights of Head of Family, it expresses just how cruel they were, Quickly kill... a dreadfully deformed child (Spielvogel p. 116). In my opinion, this law is wicked because no one should be killed just because of the way that they look, especially if they were born that way and can not help it. Before the Twelve Tables, there were major problems and struggles. Both of the groups, patricians and plebeians, were able to vote, but only the patricians were granted the right to be elected to government positions. They were both able to make legal agreements and have marriages, but it was forbidden for a patrician and a plebeian to intermarry. There was conflict amongst Rome because everyone wanted the right to be equal, and they were not being treated ... • 4. The Most Important Function Of Money The most important function of money is that it serves as a medium of exchange. In a barter economy it was difficult to exchange of goods since the exchange in a barter system required double coincidence of wants. Money has removed this issue. Now goods can be sold between two parties. Then the seller can use that money to buy goods they want from another party that have the goods they want. Another important function of money is that it serves as a common measure of value or a unit of account. Under a barter economy there was no common measure of value in which the values of different goods could be measured and compared with each other. Money has also resolved this problem as well. Money serves as a way to measure the value of goods and services. As the value of all goods and services is measured in a standard unit of money, their relative values can be easily compared (Asmundson Oner, 2012). Another function of money it that it serves as a standard for deferred payments. Deferred payments mean those payments which are to be made in the future. If a loan is taken today, it would be paid back after a period of time. The amount of loan is measured in terms of money and it is paid back in money. A large number of credit transactions involving huge future payments are made daily. Money performs this function of standard for deferred payments because its value remains more or less stable. If the prices are falling, i.e., the value of money is rising, the creditors will ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The role of the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is to ensure all goods and people coming into the United States lawful and keeping contraband and WMD out of the United States. Additionally Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is responsible for international trade in and out of the United States. The policies and enforcement of the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) can make or break trade within the United States. The sole goal of Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is to protect the nations from all threats, while at the same time maintaining a balance trade between United States and the rest of the world. Certainly, Port Management Security is well aware of the economic impact and the threat of disruption to the GTS. What are the four components of the GTS (air, sea, land, and rail transport systems) and what are the subsequent critical infrastructure within each that support these components of the GTS. The Global Transportation System (GTS) touches every aspect of human life. From the food we eat to the clothes we wear, they are all moved within the Global Transportation System GTS. Passenger travel from continent to continent using the Global Transportation System GTS. Even troops and equipment for war is moved within the GTS. Simply without the GTS and its four components of air, sea, land, and rail transports life would not be possible for much of the world. The size of the GTS has continue to grow due to more business operating now on a global scale. In addition, free trade through numerous agreements has open up opportunities worldwide. With the amount of goods and people being moved, be able to secure port either air or surface becomes that much difficult. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Cause Of The French Revolution A rebel is a person who defies authority. A rebellious person says, You can not do this to us, I disagree. They are not afraid to stand up for what they believe in and say, This has been going on too long and it needs to stop now. Now imagine the majority of the country, the majority of France all saying, this needs to end now. That was the French Revolution. The third estate angry and poor, helpless and furious together attack authority in rebellious ways. First, they attack the Bastille which was the French jail and replace poor prisoners with elegant and rich aristocrats. Second, they formed The National Assembly, which was the disagreement with the current government and a formation of a new and improved one. Furthermore, the third ... Their power went so far that even the most innocent man could be scented to death with the sign of a monarch signature on the Letter decatche within milliseconds. It didn t matter if the man was harmless, he wasn t needed and that s what defined what would happen to him (Vikram,Political). The rulers were cruel and selfish beginning with Louis XVI. Louis XVI was a powerful monarch who participated in multiple wars and claimed I am the state (Vikram,Political). After him monarch Louis VX took over who fought over seven wars against England. The multiple wars indebted France and caused the French government to become bankrupt (Vikram,Political). Another reason why France became bankrupt was because of Marie Antoinette, who was the wife of king Louis XVI(Vikram,Political). She always interfered with political agreements and decisions. She was known for her abuse of royal spending allowing France to have multiple financial issues (Vikram,Political). France s bankruptcy and financial problems led to people starving in the streets, only eating whatever scraps they could find. It led to even poorer and contaminated living conditions, as well as multiple taxes to the government in order to pay off France s debt (Vikram,Political). Bankruptcy left the economy unbearable, broken, and destroyed. If rights and now health, money, and happiness were taken away, it left the people but one ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Hedge Fund Since investors cannot invest in a gauge of the hedge fund universe, it is crucial to focus on the performance of individual funds. Do individual hedge funds beat the market? Do they outperform mutual funds? Academic literature on the performance on hedge funds does not provide a clear answer as to whether hedge funds outperform the market. Moreover, there are a number of challenges facing researchers wanting to explore this issue. Firstly, due to hedge fund s unregulated nature, unbiased data is hard to retrieve since only a small number of hedge funds disclose their performance voluntarily. This problem is referred to as the survivorship bias and refers to how the data available to researchers might be skewed since only well performing hedge funds have the incentive to voluntarily declare their earnings. Therefore, the data available will be missing those hedge funds that have been shut down or liquidated (Ackerman, McEnally and Ravenscraft, 1999).The range of ... Hedge funds may have strategies that yield payoffs similar to those of a company which sells earthquake insurance; most of the time the insurance company makes no payouts on its insurance policies and has a nice profit, but from time to time disaster comes and the insurance company makes large losses that may exceed its accumulative profits from good times. Though investors in an insurance company know that it sells earthquake insurance, investors in hedge funds may find it impossible to assess that the hedge fund takes the risk of large losses before these losses have materialized. The general argument is that looking at past performance does not guarantee constant future return because it may seem that a hedge fund has low volatility but at the same time there is a high probability the fund may lose all its assets at once (Stulz, ... However, this doesn t mean that history will cease to repeat itself. The political policies of Franklin Delano Roosevelt are often acknowledged for the relief of our country s depression and some of which are still in effect today. To avoid our current recession, will Barack Obama choose to base his policies off of FDR s in hopes that the same plan will work twice? • 13. Edward Larson s Work Summer For The Gods Throughout United States history, Americans have always remain separated on certain issues. Edward Larson s work Summer for the Gods exemplifies just how issues split the population. Larson uses the Scopes Trial of 1925 to demonstrate to the rivalry between modernists and traditionalists in the early 20th century. Charles Dawson discovered fossilized human bones known as the Piltdown skull and bridged a gap in history that seemed to confirm Darwin s theory of evolution. Darwin s account of random variations, coupled with his survival of the fittest selection process, posed a critical problem for many Christians who retained a teleological view of nature. (Larson, 17) This threat to Christian spirituality sparked an anti evolution movement in an attempt to revoke the teachings of evolution in public school systems. The Tennessee House of Representatives soon passed a statute making it illegal for any public school official to teach any theory that rejected the divine creation of man as taught in the Bible. The Scopes Trial would prove to be more than an argument between science and religion and the removal of textbook content. It was individual rights versus the right of majority rule, freedom of speech versus censorship, and evolution versus creationism. At the turn of the century, traditionalists were making an effort to combat the teachings of evolution. The anti evolution movement originated for many reasons. • 15. The Irrigation Systems At Universities At universities across America, and especially at a southern school such as Baylor, water is used in vast amounts each year, leading to large utility bills as well as a high carbon footprint. Therefore the irrigation systems at universities must be highly efficient in order to not be wasteful. Unfortunately, at Baylor we have major irrigation issues. The sprinklers overwater areas of the grass, leaving bog like areas that are unsavory for anyone passing by, and many of the sprinklers rotate too far, therefore watering large portions of the sidewalks, not only wasting water, but also annoying teachers and students. If it was possible to reduce the amount of water used by Baylor then it would not only be able to reduce its yearly utility bill by a substantial amount, but also enables Baylor to be better stewards of the Earth by saving water and reducing its carbon footprint. In order to save water Baylor has to make efforts to fix the irrigation system. I propose a that Baylor hires the landscaping crew to find areas on campus where the grass is being overwater, reduce the amount of water going to those areas, and also fix the rotation on sprinklers that require readjustment in order to keep the water on the grass. In regards to the importance of an efficient Baylor irrigation system, Paul Clare, the marketing manager of Facilities and Energy at Baylor had this to say: In accordance with its Christian mission and vision, Baylor University strives to be a community that ... The disease got its name because of the characteristic sound that is made when affected individuals attempt to inhale; the whoop originates from the inflammation and swelling of the voice box that vibrates when too much air comes in when one breathes after coughing. (Medline plus) Whooping cough is a very contagious disease. It spreads through close contact that includes a transferring of oral secretions or respiratory droplets from one person to another. So it s easily spread through the cough, especially when people are in close contact, like living in the same house with a person who has whooping cough. It can also spread through sneezes or anything that causes a secretion of respiratory fluids. (CDC) the people whom can be affected are children who have not been immunized or people whose last shot of the immunization was done ten or more years previously. There is evidence that suggests the first outbreaks I whooping cough occurred in the 16th century. The bacterium that causes the infection was not found until the beginning of the 1900 s. Why target whooping cough? Whooping cough is most commonly found in infants. Seamus Heaney s Blackberry Picking also presents the beauty of nature however in contrast to Hughes and Hopkins, Heaney s poem explores man s relationship with nature as a resource and how man exploits it and becomes greedy. The poem itself is about when Heaney was much younger and would go blackberry picking. It begins very positively but the second stanza ends the poem negatively containing sorrow and regret. After washing away all prior beliefs of the external world about us, Descartes builds a system of doubt that forces readers to question if they truly know anything about the external world around us. His factors building this doubt include the possibility of madness, sensory deception, chance or the continuous chain of events leading to our present state, omnipotent beings, or the idea that we may be dreaming. Descartes claims that there is no way to indubitably know the truth of our external environment, however it is indubitable that there is an internal being or self. Whether it is based on a personal experience or someone else s, one can agree that all of the factors given could result in skewed knowledge. Aristotle once said that, our senses can be trusted but they can be easily fooled. Because our senses can be so easily deceived, trustworthiness is perhaps not the best trait to award it with. It revived the Biblical and New Testament thoeological studies. b) a negative effect of the reformation could be the disunity of the church. When the church was all one, we at least had some since of fellowship. But now, all of the churches have their own little groups and we condemn other churches for not being the same as your denomination. We should all come together as a body of Christ and unify instead of break apart. c) Although Christians can believe indifferent doctrines, the way we serve God doesn t necessarily matter if you believe he died for your sins. If we can come together and can be unified in our faith, then I believe Christ will expand to different people. Also, if you have faith, then you should have unity, and vise versa. d) There is a time for division in the body of Christ. When a church group is denying scripture and, after being confronted, still continues their same practice, then it is time to break fellowship with that group. This has happened with the Metropolitan Community Church denomination which openly advocates the support of homosexuality. Also, there is an Evangelical Lutheran church that is thinking about accepting homosexual relationships into church. The Negative Effects Of Technology On The Family The Effects of Technology on the Family Technology has advanced over the years and is starting to be used more often by families on a daily basis for work, school, leisure, and for social interaction. In today s modern society, it is not uncommon to see a technological device in someone s possession. In fact, a recent study done in 2016 found that technology is more prevalent than we might realize with 98 percent of adults between the ages 18 and 29 owning a cell phone and 85 percent of those cell phones being smart phones (Stein, Osborn, Greenberg, 2016). This lit review examines the effect that technology has on family relationships. Technology has an important place in American families, but it can easily take up valuable time that can be spent having face to face interactions. In 2013 children ages 8 to 18 years old spent approximately 7.5 hours a day looking at a screen, and when looking at the same age group back in 1999 children only spent 5 hours a day using technology (Sanders, Parent, Forehand, Breslend, 2016). Family bonding experiences can be influenced if children and parents are frequent users of technology. A very recent study conducted this year found that social media is used daily by 75 percent of adults ages 18 29 using it and 66 percent of older adult ages 30 39 using it as well (Haslam, Tee, Baker, 2017). Research shows that, in the United States, 173 billion text messages were sent monthly by 293 million cell phone subscribers, according to mid year 2010 data. That s about 20 daily text messages per subscriber (Isaiah, Williams, Byron, 2011, p.66). • 36. A Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor First, the identification of a licensed chemical dependency counselor would suffice at the moment. A licensed chemical dependency counselor are counselors that specialize in identifying and treating addictive behaviors that are maladaptive, altered from cognitive imbalance, and from physiological discrepancies, or frequent intoxication to achieve homeostasis or functionality to some extent. In other words, licensed chemical dependency counselors establish and implement treatments to help people cure their addictions from substances which they are chemically dependent on. Second, the nature of chemical dependency is to be acknowledged. The nature of chemical dependency is not very well understood by human population. Many people see addictions as diseases, immoral behaviors or sins, as maladaptive behaviors, and some may view such substance dependence as out of control behaviors as well. However, chemical or substance dependency is a mental issue. The mind tells the body that it needs a certain substance to function, it is a craving that is difficult for the body to ignore, and the body cannot function until such a need is met. The change in behaviors, mood and conscious motivates the mind further to continue finding ways to meet this need. Therefore, there is not only an addiction, but a chemical dependency issue as well. It is strong and difficult to defeat. It is strong enough that it may cause some people to conduct criminal activities or infringe upon the rights and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. The Church Of Jesus Christ Commonly referred to as Mormons, though they prefer to be known as Latter day Saints. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints was formed in the first half of the nineteenth century by its founder, Joseph Smith. Smith was said to have been visited by God, the Father, and Jesus Christ after retreating to the woods to pray for guidance. At the time there were multiple competing facets of Christianity and Smith was unsure which to join. To answer his question, God and Jesus Christ told him not to join any of the churches, but to restore the one true church. After Jesus s crucifixion, Latter day Saints believe the original church fell after followers argued over his teachings leading to the loss of his true message. Later, Smith was visited by an angel named Moroni, who announced the existence of two gold plates for him to find. The plates were in an unknown language so, through God s assistance, Smith translated the plates into English. Once they had been translated, the plates were taken back by the angel. The translation of the plates came to be known as the Book of Mormon, which is the groundwork of the church for Latter day Saints. Smith and his followers, due to the hostility from the local population in New York, left to settle westward where they could practice their religion freely. Along the journey, Smith was murdered by a mob for his religious beliefs, but his follower continued on and settled in Utah. On February 14th, I interviewed Kevin Anderson at The ... • 38. Analysis Of The Movie Rampart The movie, Rampart, which is set in Los Angeles in 1999 and focused on the life of 24 year veteran Officer Dave Brown of the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) as a part of the Rampart division. He is a man of his own breed who follows his own code of justice disregarding the solid line that stands between right and wrong. Brown is prone to using violence and intimidation to maintain his own idea that he is the unnoticed, underappreciated vigilante for the public. Although he has a hero complex, he does not seem to form intimate emotional connections, even though he was married to two women (both of which are sisters) and has a daughter by each woman. Neither of the women seemed to feel any emotional connection to Brown seeing as they all live together for the sake of the children, regardless of the obvious fact that his children do not seem to have a strong bond with him either. Years earlier Brown was involved in the death of a suspected serial rapist, which put the police department under stress as well as earned him the nickname Date Rape Dave . To further the spotlight on the LAPD and Officer Brown, a video was aired on the local television stations of Brown unnecessarily beating an individual who crashed into the back of his police vehicle. An assistant DA pressures and urges Brown to retire to try and prevent the police department from undergoing more fire and speculation from the public. The actions of Brown thrusts a tear in the relationship between the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
