Washington Irving’s The Legend of Sleepy Hollow vs. The...
When we compare Washington Irving s The Legend of Sleepy Hollow to the 1980 television movie
The Legend of Sleepy Hollow starring Meg Foster, Dick Butkus, and Jeff Goldblum, we find that
while there are several similarities between the two, there are also some key differences. When we
look at various characters as well as the storyline, we see those similarities and differences.
Washington Irving s depiction of Katrina Van Tassel is that she was a little of a coquette and liked to
mix older and modern fashions she wore the...stomacher of the older time; and withal a provokingly
short petticoat, to display the prettiest foot and ankle (Irving 325) because they accentuated her best
features. Add in her beauty a blooming lass ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After he expresses his sorrow again, her reply is, Indeed you were, sir (6:56 7:09). She also made sure
that when she was leaving, after Ichabod learned who she is, that her father (who hired him) could fire
him just as fast (7:21 7:25). An example of her coquettishness is when she ponders the possibility for a
girl to have two suitors; and she is called selfish and greedy by another character because the person
that already has the best man in the county wrapped around her finger like a wedding ring shouldn t be
making google eyes at other men (46:16 46:33); this goes to show a similarity to the written story.
During the course of the movie, however, she becomes increasingly interested in Ichabod; she tells
another character that she wants a gentle man, an educated man, a quiet man (48:12 48:19). She is in
love with Ichabod, which is a contrast to the movie. The ending of their story in the movie is also not
the same as the written story; we assume they live happily ever after. Moving from Katrina to her
biggest suitor (in every sense of the word), we find that Irving s representation of Abraham Brom Van
Brunt, otherwise known as Brom Bones, can be summed up in Irving s own words. His physical
appearance, his Herculean frame and great powers of limb (Irving 327), caused Brom to be the object
of awe, admiration, and good will by the people of Sleepy Hollow (Irving 328). Brom was generally
considered a mixture of entertainment

Redemption And The Karmic Cycle
Every saint has a past and every sinner has a future. Every living being on this planet has flaws, has
made errors and has committed sins. It is just to say that life has no favourites, and metes out
punishment to anybody who commits mistakes. People eventually pay for their acts of sin. So, why is
it that some people are able to make peace with their past mistakes and graciously welcome the life
they have in front of them? The answer to this is redemption. Redemption is the second chance life
gives us, to atone for our sins, mend our faults and change our story. It is up to every individual how
he or she wants to perceive this rare opportunity given by life. This resonates with the philosophy of
the karmic cycle.
According to renowned mythologist Devdutt Pattanaik, Hindu mythology sees destinations as merely
an individual s choice. For a person who believes there is life after death, death is merely an artificial
milestone. What is natural, however is action. Every action has a reaction, consequences of which are
both short lived and long term. Karma is both the action and the reaction, the cause and the
consequence, the stimulus and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

English And American Versions Of Jack
This tale also addresses elements attributed to both English and American versions of Jack. The
attributes of the opponent in the story varies from a king, a titled lord, a rich landowner, or a wealthy
farmer with the first two more likely based on English influences and the latter on American. English
variations seem to always include the mysterious supernatural Traveling Stranger who bestows the
magic drill to Jack based on his demonstrated virtues and kindness. American tales may include the
stranger, but downplays the supernatural aspect or even attempts to draw the focus away from magic.
One American version has the stranger asking Jack How s your faith, son? before giving him a test.

The most common number killed is seven, whereby Jack proceeds to have a belt or belt buckle made
to announce his accomplishment. In the Jack, Stiff Dick versions, the lettering reads, Stiff Dick, killed
seven with one lick! In less suggestive versions, the message reads, Strong man Jack, killed seven at a
whack! After the belt or belt buckle is made, Jack encounters the authority figure of the region who
misunderstands the meaning of the message. The king, wealthy land owner, or lord of the region offers
Jack a task based on his perception that Jack is a fierce fighter. The first task is to remove a wild boar
that has been terrorizing the area, killing livestock and injuring people. Jack is offered a significant
amount of money for the removal of the threat because all other men of the expanse are frightened.
Jack is fearful of the boar himself, and decides to pretend to accept the offer but planning to slip out of
the territory instead. While trying to escape the boar s domain, he instead runs across the animal and is
chased. In his attempts to elude the boar, Jack inadvertently traps the animal. Some stories have an old
abandoned shack as the trap, some have a pit that the animal falls into, and some have the board
tangled in a deadfall. Jack returns to the authority figure and reports that he was unable to find the
fierce creature, but he did trap a small pig that he

Myths About Nudism
Myths about Nudism
Nudism also knew as naturism is cultural as well as political movement practicing defending and
advocating personal and social nudity. It mostly takes place on private property. It can also be used to
refer to a personal, social or family based lifestyle. Nudism is the actual act of being naked while
naturism is the lifestyle that at times embraces the respect of other people, self respect, nature, the
environment, a healthy eating, healthy living through exercise and nudity. Because of the different
stereotypes, people have towards the culture of nudism, over time, they have developed false
assumptions and myths about nudism perpetuated by the media which are listed and explained below.
Nudists are always naked
So many factors contradict the claim of nudists going naked all the time such as the weather, the

Nudism cannot be about sex, but it is insincere to say it is asexual. Human beings, a large percentage
of them, are sexual beings and that includes nudists, it is not as if when someone becomes a nudist,
their sexuality is stripped off them. Just like any other normal human beings, nudists experience
sexual attraction and have sex. They express affection in public regardless of them being naked or
with clothes. There may be a strong association between nudity and sex in today s culture, but that is
not the case. In nudist settings, people will behave sexually as people on a textile beach setting; they
will all act in the same manner, talk about stuff, do skinny dipping, flirt, sunbathe and laugh about
stuff. It does not mean that when people are all naked, they cannot control themselves because they
can do that whether they are naked or

area, its historic background, methodology used for data collection, data analysis methods employed
and how data was finally presented. THE STUDY AREA Mole National Park is Ghana s largest
protected area. Situated between Upper West and Tamale, it covers about 4,577 km² and lies between
9° 11 and 10° 10 N latitude, and 1° 22 and 2° 13 W longitude (MNP, 2011). It was gazetted as a
national a park in 1971 for its outstanding wildlife and also to protect representative ecological
habitats. Visitors usually see a range of species including elephants, hartebeests, kobs, waterbucks,
bushbucks, warthogs, roan antelopes, duikers, buffalos, oribis, baboons, patas monkeys, vervet
monkeys, red throated bee eaters, Abyssinia ground horn bills, saddle billed storks, agama lizards,
crocodiles, bush snakes and other species (MNP, 2011). The average annual rainfall of the Mole
ecosystem is about 1100 mm. More than 90% of the rain falls in the rainy season from April to
October, with peaks in July and September. The dry season lasts from November to March. The mean
annual temperature of 28°C varies from 26°C in December to 31°C in March. The average range from
day to night is 13°C. It can be unpleasantly hot in March and April, with temperatures sometimes in
the 40°Cs. The Harmattan (a dry wind from the Sahara) blows during December to February bringing
dusty, hazy weather conditions. The relative humidity

State Terrorism As A Form Of Political Violence
State terrorism is defined as, terrorism committed by a national government, inside of its national
borders and directed at its own people and sometimes visitors (Taylor Swanson, 2016 P. 162). Most
military dictorships tend to maintain the power through terror; this paralyzes society through violence
and threats. The scary thing about state terrorism is that the states themselves have the power to use
violence in many ways that us as civilians cannot. The main purpose of state terrorism is to install this
fear in citizens, this way they consolidate the living regimes power, and keep maintain the control over
the country s population. However, some do not see state terrorism as terrorism, if not just as a form of
political violence.

Compare And Contrast Lamb To The Slaughter And Fahrenheit 451
The Escape From Murder
Is it really that hard to get away with murder? According to the novels of Fahrenheit 451 written by
Ray Bradbury and Lamb to the Slaughter written by Roald Dahl, the protagonists of both stories kill
their antagonists and escape murder quite easily. Guy Montag, (the main protagonist in Fahrenheit
451) and Mary Maloney (the main protagonist in Lamb to the Slaughter ) Both share similarities and
have their differences throughout the story. Despite the stories having a few differences in the society
they live in, the similarities outweigh the differences greatly. The three reasons the two stories are very
similar is because of the betrayal of Mary s and Montag s spouses, Montag and Mary murder the
antagonists, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Montag fled to Faber s house and then to the river so the scent that he was leaving behind for the
mechanical hound to follow would be erased. He floated on back while the valise filled and sank ( 140

away with her murder by giving herself an alibi by going to the grocer while Patrick s death occurred
and had the murder weapon destroyed. One of them belched [while eating the lamb] Personally, I
think [the murder weapon] is right here on this premises! ( ). This quote means that mary got the
detectives to eat the lamb that she used to kill Patrick, therefor removing any thought that she was the
suspect for Patrick s murder.
The three main similarities between Mary and Montag is based on the betrayal of spouses, the
murdering of antagonists, and the process of getting away with murder. There are many similarities
between these two stories, despite having some differences. The two characters show why and how
they murdered the antagonists of the story. The two stories also show how the characters escaped their
crimes. After reading Fahrenheit 451 and Lamb to the slaughter, Is it really that hard to get away with

Letter To The Ephesians
The book of Ephesians was written by the Apostle Paul, to the saints at Ephesus. It is suggested that
Paul wrote this letter around 60 AD, while imprisoned in Rome. The biblical author of Acts, Luke,
eludes to Paul s imprisonment in Rome in Acts 28. Paul initially identifies himself as the author of the
letter to the Ephesians in his greeting in Ephesians 1:1 and again in 3:1. To further identify himself
Paul often makes particular references to himself in the body of the letter to the Ephesians (c.f.
Ephesians 3:3, 7, 13; 4:1; 6:19). Ephesus was a major city in Asia Minor. It was considered an affluent
seaport. It was a capital in the Roman Province of Asia, what is today western Turkey. It was a median
to Greek and Near Eastern culture.

The Confederate Wins and Losses
On April 12,1865 Confederate warships bombed the union at Fort Sumter in South Carolina and this
marked the beginning of one of the worst and deadliest wars fought in the world. It was a war that
only lasted around four years but yet took 620,000 of our brothers, sisters, and children with it.
Families were torn apart, sons had lost their fathers, mothers lost their sons, and whole towns lost
every man they had to give. A war that we fought on our land, a war that made brother fight brother,
killed almost as many men as every war America has fought since combined. At First the Union
believed they were going to fight at least a couple battles and it would all be over with, but oh was the
Union wrong. They under estimated the wholeheartedly fighting Confederate soldiers, the
Confederates were not going to give up that easily what they needed, what they wanted, and their way
of life. Between the battle of Fort Sumter a Confederate victory and the First battle of Bull Run anther
Confederate victory, there were nine other smaller battles many not large enough to truly be called a
battle. Of those nine battles three were won by the Confederates and two were inconclusive. At the
first battle of Bull Run, the Union still believed that this is going to be a very short war, they believed
it so much that spectators came and lined the sides of the battlefield to watch the Union smash the
Confederate Army. Of the spectators most we re just common folk or people near that community, but

Employment of Illegal Immigrants
Employment of Illegal Immigrants Employment of illegal immigrants in the United States, as well as
other countries has been a highly controversial subject for many years now. There are many people
living in various countries around the world that are unhappy with the way they are living, and want
something more out of life than what their country can offer. Due to their unhappiness, they decide to
immigrate to another country, and this is usually done illegally. Once they are in their preferred
country, which a lot of the time is the United States, they are forced to work in low skilled jobs
because higher skilled jobs require people to speak fluent English and show proof of residency.
Although many people view illegal migrants as a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There has been many laws and regulations passed, to try and prevent illegal migrants from working in
the United States. In all states, businesses Are required by federal law to check the legal status of all
new hires. They must fill out federal form 1 9 to show that each worker holds federally acceptable
residency documents, like a driver s license or social security card (Speizer 1). Although they must do
all of those things, they are not required to check the authenticity of the documents. In Arizona that
has all changed, a new law has been passed that makes it mandatory for all employers to participate in
E Verify in which information from 1 9 documents can be checked through databases at the Social
Security Administration or the Department of Homeland Security (Speizer 2). This used to be
something businesses could voluntarily partake in, but has now become mandatory in Arizona. Under
this law they have created harsh punishments for employers who knowingly hire undocumented
migrants. One of these harsh punishments includes the loss of the employer s business license, if it is a
reoccurring issue. They hope that this new law will decrease the amount of undocumented workers in
the state and create more jobs for their own U.S. citizens. I do not believe that employment of illegal
immigrants is a problem in our country in any way. Over half of the jobs

Writing An Assignment Analysis
When I write an assignment, from a simple analysis to a research paper, I always start with writing an
outline. The outline helps me with the flow of my writing and reminds me where my work will take
me. The outline keeps me organized in my thoughts and aids in the comprehension of my writing; it
will start out very broad and eventually becomes very specific so the essay is easier to write. I have
gotten into the habit of writing outlines when I would write any assignment during my sophomore
year of high school. My teacher would require us to write outlines for major writing assignments
which developed my habit to write an outline for any assignment. After the outline, I begin writing the

Bible Vs Christian New Testament
Before I read this chapter I had absolutely no idea that the Jewish religion had their own bible. The
main differences that I came across after reading and doing research are the number of books, the
arrangement of the books, the primary language that the Bibles are read or studied in, the content of
the two Bibles, and the importance that is given to the oral and the written traditions in making of the
two holy books. The word Bible comes from the Greek word biblia which means books and both
religions call their religious scripture Bible (Frigge 1). Judaism dates back to the 2nd century BCE and
the Jewish Bible is called Tanakh. It consists of 24 books which are in Hebrew and Armanic (Hayes

Fighting a War Against Aging of Your Face Essay
This is true. I had a friend in Jamaica, somewhere far away. Her age was 44, but everybody thought
her 25. Many sought after the secret of her ageless beauty, but few knew the truth. Discipline. That s
what it was, cold, hard soldier discipline. A long , tedious, even challenging skin care routine,
performed every single night before she went to bed was what did it.
In order to take care of your face, you ve got to gather your materials, wash, and moisturize every
night. It s like fighting a war, against age and time and brow droops and marionette lines. It s like
making peace with your body, detoxing the grease and grime within your pores. It s complicatedly
simple, but only one rule rules them all: No slip ups allowed. ... Show more content on

Antibacterials used too often leads to resistance, and the last thing you want to be doing is rubbing
drug resistant bacteria all over your face. Squirt a generous amount of soap on your hands. Rub. Rub
again. Rub until there s a mountain of foam, then sing the happy birthday song. That s right. The
happy birthday song, whose timing allows for the soap to do its job and get rid of all the bacteria.
Then, turn the tap on to lukewarm. Not hot. Don t want to burn your face. Not cold, either, because
cold water will close the pores you re eventually going to scrub. Rinse the bubbles away, then find
your facial cleanser. Squirt a dime sized amount. Any bigger, and you run the risk of irritation again.
Rub. Rub again. Rub until there s a mountain of foam, then put your hands on your face and rub some
more. This is the first march on your face, and you better familiarize yourself and cover every
territory, including the hard to reach undersides like the back of your ears and the back of your neck. If
your arms hurt from reaching, do not relent. March on. Once you re done rubbing, it s time to start
rinsing. Cup the lukewarm water in your hands and attack the foam. Only skin left alive. Washing
done.
No slip ups allowed.
The Charge of Moisture
Moisture comes in several steps, mainly because it s vital to skin success. First, locate the clay mask.

I believe that criminals, Frank Morris and the Anglin brothers, survived their attempted escape from

the waters. In 1934, a teenage girl, 2 ten year old kids, and fitness expert, Jack Lalanne, swam from
Alcatraz to the mainland. Although there is the possibility of hypothermia and drowning in the
conditions they were in.This proves that the swim wouldn t be too life threatening, especially if you

Evaluate The Accuracy Of Parachute Results
Overall, I think the experiment went well, but the results collected at the end were invalid and
reasonably inaccurate, however, on the other hand, errors and mistakes occurred during the
investigation. The dropping time of the parachute was not accurate because it went off course, so it is
not reliable as we could not control the factors which affected the parachute. This is because the
parachute had more air resistance, but the weight force was less and took way too much time to reach
the ground. For example; the weather and weight affected the parachute s drop time and we could ve
tested the parachute from different heights to get more accurate and valid results. My results prove my
prediction correct that large surface area parachutes will take more time to land as more air particles
hit with the parachute. This explains that the parachute will take more time to reach the ground safely.
My team tried to make the surface area of the parachute as large as possible, so there would be more
air resistance because of the more the air resistance, the slower it will descend. My team s parachutes
were best at landing, but it went off course because the object was not heavy enough, so air resistance

On the other hand, the prediction was correct that the larger the surface area of the parachute, the
longer it will take to reach the ground safely because the purpose of the parachutes is to land people or
objects safely and slowly. After this investigation squared shaped parachutes were better because it
took the greater amount of time to land. However, the parachute went off course because more air
particles hit on the parachute, but the weight force was less. This is because unbalanced forces acted
on it. Overall, this investigation worked well because my team s parachute took the longest time (9
seconds) to reach the ground compared to other parachutes, but floated

Joshua Harris Why Church Matters
Why does the Church matter? That is the question many of us ask. The author Joshua Harris through
his book, Why Church matters: Discovering your place in the Family of God talks about the Church
and its importance for us as Christians. He describes the Church as the community where we can find
growth, encouragement, and closer relationship with God. In his book, Harris pictures this relationship
as a marriage, where we are the spouse and the church is the wife. Before we decide to marry the
Church, we need to commit to it, as a gloom commit to her bride and is willing to give his life and
sacrifice everything for her. Further, the author explains how we (believers) are part of something

Pros And Cons Of Conversion Therapy

is a pseudoscientific practice that encompasses psychological or spiritual interventions to try and
change an individual s, usually a minor s, sexual orientation. It has been highly discredited and
criticized by all major American medical and psychological organizations and even, in 2001, the

Chewing Gum Experiment Hypothesis

gum helps you concentrate and I wanted to know if it was true. A hypothesis is a prediction statement
that you can test, about the relationship between two variables. The hypothesis for this research is that
I believe that gum does help you concentrate because it helps you stay alert instead of getting
distracted or dozing off. To test this question, there would be two groups of people, one that are

Random assignment is when someone assign a participant to experimental and control groups by
chance. This is done to minimize the preexisting differences to the assigned group. To do this, I would
need to give everyone one slip of paper, randomly chosen that says group 1 no gum, group 1 with
gum, group 2 no gum and group 2 with gum. This would make it so that the groups are chosen
randomly. The population would be ten in each group so that would equal forty people in total. These
people would be from the same school, and same grade level to ensure that they are around the same
age. I would ensure that i have a representative sample, a small quantity of something that accurately
reflects the larger population, by testing it on different ages so that it would represent the whole
population instead of just one grade level. Experimenter bias is a process where the person performing
the research influences the results in order to portray a certain outcome. This would not influence my
experiment because everything would be randomized and I wouldn t alter the results because I would
want to know the real answer answer to my research question. To overcome experimenter bias all data

include high blood pressure and protein in the urine, occurring after week 20 of pregnancy.
Preeclampsia is often precluded by gestational hypertension. While high blood pressure during
pregnancy does not necessarily indicate preeclampsia, it may be a sign of another problem.
Preeclampsia affects at least 3 5% of pregnancies. If undiagnosed, preeclampsia can lead to eclampsia,
a serious condition that can put pregnant women and their baby at risk, and in rare cases, cause death.
Women with preeclampsia who have seizures are considered to have eclampsia. The exact causes of

Najate Achamrah and Agnes Ditisheim believe that defective placenta releases many factors to the
maternal circulation such as, pro inflammatory cytokines, syncytiotrophoblast micro particles,
angiogenic and antiangiogenic factors which is in turn cause endothelial cell dysfunction and increase
vascular resistance that result in the maternal syndrome. (Najate Achamrah Agnes Ditisheim, 2018). It
is thought that nutrients insufficiency plays crucial role in preeclampsia development in pregnant
women. Micronutrients and vitamins have clinical antioxidant and anti inflammatory properties, and
they are substantial for normal placentation by acting on placental endothelial function. In addition,
nutrients contribute to the spiral artery remodeling and angiogenesis. (Ilekis et al., 2017).

The Dependence On Fossil Fuels
Title Since the invention of the car over a century ago, people have become highly dependent on fossil
fuels. Over the past few decades it has become clear that this dependence has been having disastrous
effects on the environment, our health, our economy, and our future. Not only that, but fossil fuels are
a finite supply and once they are depleted, there is no getting more. If we are to continue to thrive as a
society, it is imperative that we reduce our dependence on non renewable fossil fuels, and move
towards renewable energy sources such as electricity, biofuels, and hydrogen. Fossil fuels have been
used to power our vehicles since the invention of the car in the late 19th century. And with more
people driving cars over the years, the total consumption of oil has increased dramatically. According
to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), the United States used 8.8 million barrels of
gasoline (368 million gallons) a day for transportation in 2014 (Energy Information Administration).
This is an alarming rate, considering the world only has so much oil. The EIA has predicted that the
world has enough oil to carry the industries that rely on it through 2040 (Energy Information
Administration). Beyond that, it is uncertain if we will have enough oil, not only for transportation,
but also for the thousands of other industries that depend on it as their primary source of energy.
Besides going scarce, another issue with relying on fossil fuels for energy is

The Hazards of High Protein, Low Carbohydrate Diets Essay
The Hazards of High Protein, Low Carbohydrate Diets
A young, healthy teenage girl fell to her death after following a high protein, low carbohydrate diet for
no more than two weeks. The girl, having no identified sicknesses or medical conditions, exhibited
electrolyte imbalances along with minimal levels of potassium and calcium, which appeared to be a
result of the diet according to doctors at the University of Missouri Health Science Center. These
irregularities upset the normal electrical function of her heart causing it to stop and her to collapse (
US teen . . . ). Based on this alone, it is evident that a high protein, low carbohydrate diet is not a safe
and healthy long term weight loss program.

High protein or ketogenic diets, those like the well known Atkins, are based solely on large
consumptions of proteins and fats while they restrict carbohydrates to a nearly invisible amount.
Although dieters are eating plenty of meat and getting their protein, possibly even an overload, they
are receiving very little, if any, fruits, vegetables, whole grains and other nutrient rich foods, which are
essential to a well balanced diet ( High Protein Diets ). A study conducted on Atkins meals reveals
that, along with having too much protein and too little carbohydrates, they are unusually high in
saturated fat and cholesterol while minimal in fiber. The meals also fail to meet the recommended
daily values for several vitamins and minerals ( How does . . .? ). Therefore, with this type of diet, it is
vital to one s health that vitamins and minerals are consumed by means of supplements. There are
some nutrients, though, that cannot be acquired any other way than directly from the source ( The
Dangers . . . ). According to Ellen Coleman s article, Even Dr. Atkins . . . admits that his diet doesn t
supply enough vitamin [sic] and minerals and recommends that people take supplements.
Due to the imbalance of protein and carbohydrates, many serious side effects are linked to the weight
loss plan. Ketosis, a fasting state, is very common among high protein dieters ( The Dangers . . . ). The

The Evolution of Horror For centuries, stories of monsters, demons and other unholy abominations
have brought fear to the hearts of audiences in commercially convenient doses. Noel Carroll, Ph.D., in
his article The Nature of Horror , argues that the existence of monsters and supernatural entities alone
do not define a horror novel or film for monsters inhabit all sorts of stories, such as fairy tales, myths,
and odysseys, that we are not wont to identify as horror (Carroll). One can therefore infer that the
absence of such creatures in either media can absolutely still yield a work in the Horror fiction genre.

It is so cold, Eleanor thought childishly; I will never be able to sleep again with all this noise coming
from inside my head; how can these others hear the noise when it is coming from inside my head? I
am disappearing inch by inch into this house, I am going apart a little bit at a time because all this
noise is breaking me; why are the others frightened? (Jackson 128). Eleanor is Hill House s main
victim; therefore, she can be seen as the women in distress who so often appears in many other Gothic
Horror novels. As the story progresses, one might detect hints of romance between Eleanor and
Theodora; Jackson leaves this facet of the story as vaguely as she does the others, however, and never
elaborates on it. Romance, in itself, is another key factor in establishing Gothic Horror literature.
Though eighteenth century Gothic Horror laid the foundation of Modern Horror, as we know it today,
much of what we are used can be attributed to influences by horror authors in the nineteenth century.
It was during this century when Gothic Horror transformed into the genre of Horror. Horror exploded
with popularity with the publication of Frankenstein (1818) by Mary Shelley. It was during this time
that Horror authors began to incorporate the five human senses to help their audience to imagine the
physical manifestation of fear itself. The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1886) by Robert

Hesitation, Repression, and Indecisiveness in the Love...
Impotent, pathetic, inadequate, timid. Everyone knows a J. Alfred Prufrock, and everyone has a bit of
him in himself or herself. Just like Prufrock we readers have been witness to the pretentious triviality
of others, the women who come and go/ Talking of Michelangelo (lines 13 14), and the lack of
confidence which prevents the realization of desires. Eliot s careful choice of epigraph from Dante s
Inferno reverberates throughout this poem as the logic behind Prufrock sharing his feelings with his
listener. Just as Guido da Montefeltro is certain his listener shares a similar fate as himself, so to does
Prufrock believe that his listener is like himself, and will never turn back and descend the stair (line

Death also signifies Prufrock s lack of social contact and sexual stimulation. The word etherized not
only means to numb, but is also suggestive of the word ethereal. Prufrock s repressed desire can be
seen in his frustration with the reality of social/emotional interaction and also with the ethereal,
inexpressible inner desire of his heart, not just to ask an overwhelming question , but further, to say
exactly what he means as in line 104. Unable to force the moment to its crisis leaves Prufrock
emotionally impotent. Unlike Marvell and his coy mistress Prufrock does not have all the time in the
world to malinger, stretched on the floor. Trivializing his message of desire, as in the rhyme of lines
79 80 or referring to himself as John the Baptist only further hinders the expression of his desire. And
we can only imagine in Eliot s use of religious images in which Prufrock wept and fasted, wept and
prayed that Prufrock is fervently hoping for the self confidence to express his desires. Yet after the
social banter/conventions of the cups, the marmalade, the tea , the porcelain and some talk of you and
me Prufrock is still unable to seize the moment, to turn desire into action. Presuming that Prufrock is
largely reflecting on these issues himself rather than to another listener one notices that he is unable to
even mention his desires to himself, so deeply

Improper Inhaler Technique
Project Title: Whether educate patients on pressurized metered dose inhaler (pMDI) technique at
community pharmacy improves patients asthma control
Introduction
Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disorder of the airways, which requires treatment using
bronchodilators and inhaled corticosteroids. Inhalation route is the most direct and efficient way to
deliver high amount of drugs to the airways with least systematic side effects. Improper use of the
inhaler device is one of the most common reasons for poor asthma control as it can reduce
effectiveness and the amount of drugs reaches to the airways (AL Jahdali et al. 2013). SIGN (2016)

(2013) addressed the severity caused by improper inhaler technique. In the study, majority patients
were using pMDI and almost half of the sample population did not receive education on inhaler
technique by any healthcare providers. Patients without any education were more likely to use inhaler
improperly and improper inhaler technique led to irregular follow ups, poor asthma control and more
emergency department visits. Therefore, inhaler technique education is crucial for asthma patients.
Llic et al. (2016) conducted a study assessing the influence of dry powder inhaler technique education
on the control of asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). During the study,
patients visited pulmonologists once a month for 3 months, at each visit patients were educated on
inhaler technique and the pulmonologists assessed patients disease control using the global
assessment. The result from the study showed that patients obtained significant improvement in
inhaler technique and disease control after each visit at the pulmonologists. This study further
supported the importance of inhaler technique education on respiratory disease control and suggested
that educate patients on inhaler technique should be considered to achieve better disease control. On
the other hand, there were studies that investigated the role of pharmacists on patients inhaler
technique education and the benefit from it. Giraud et al. (2011) conducted a study aiming to
investigate the possibility of inhaler training by pharmacists and the impact on asthma control. The
study result showed that the majority patients did not receive optimal inhaler technique education
from the prescribers before pharmacists counselling. However, Patients had improved in inhaler
technique and asthma control after pharmacists educational intervention. Moreover, inhaler training by
pharmacists took relatively short period of time, which could match with daily practice.

High Tech Inc. is an electronics firm. When the state of the economy is above average or at its boom,
consumers purchase more products of High Tech Inc. than they would if the state of the economy gets
worse. Under this circumstance, we would expect High Tech s stock price to be high if the economy is
well. Thus, High Tech s returns are positively correlated with the economy because the firm s sales,
and hence profits will experience the same ups and downs with the economy. The opposite holds true
with Collections Inc. because the nature of the business is on collections of past due debts. If the
economy is in recession, people are not expected to pay their debts on time. Consequently, this firm
will be collecting a lot of past due debts, thus making its stock price to increase. The opposite will
happen if the economy is performing well. This explains why Collection s expected return moves
counter the economy. Collections Inc. is considered by many investors to be a hedge against bad times

only five days. The main characters, Romeo and Juliet meet by chance, and they fall in love at first
glance. However, they come from Montagues and Capulets respectively, and the families are in an
adversarial relationship. At first, their love is described pleasantly using a lot of humor, but the

actions, it is clear that they hate each other. However, at the end of this story, Montagues and Capulets

can stop the two families from detesting each other. Second, Mercutio s death is how the tragedy all
starts. At first, he is described as a jocular person who often use vulgar jokes. However, he accepts a
challenge from Tybalt and because of this duel he dies although Romeo stands Tybalt s provocation.
Moreover, after Mercutio s death, Romeo kills Tybalt, and he is banished from Verona. Because of
Mercutio s foolish action, Romeo and Juliet starts to be tragic. Finally, friar Lawrence is a person who
let Romeo and Juliet get married, and gives them a dangerous tool that can kill them. Friar Lawrence
try to let Montagues and Capulets make up with by mediating Romeo and Juliet because he wishes a
reconciliation. However, the action of making use of two pure young children causes their death. The
most harmful action that he does is that he gives a poison to Juliet who is only thirteen years old.

The Pros And Cons Of Estate Planning
It is shocking to know that a majority of working American adults do not make estate planning a
priority. While most agree that estate planning is important, the misconception is that it is too
complicated or expensive. The majority do not know that they are indirectly involved in estate
planning by enrolling in a pension plan at work and choosing their beneficiary. This paper will

analyze why employer benefits should be considered in estate planning; determine the extent to which
an employee factors in estate planning when choosing life or death benefits from his or her job.

To help finance the Spanish American War, the War Revenue Act of 1898 was passed, and
subsequently abolished in 1902. The 1898 death tax was a form of estate tax, levied upon the value of
all personal property included in a decedent s gross estate (Luckey, 2003). A possession passing to a
surviving spouse was excluded from the tax, and a $10,000 specific exemption excluded small estates.
The tax rates were graduated from 0.74 percent to 15 percent, taking into consideration both the size
of the estate and the degree of affiliation of the decedent and the beneficiaries (Luckey, 2003). Due to
the cost of World War I, the Revenue Act of 1916 restored an estate tax that has since influenced the
current estate tax code (Luckey, 2003). In 1797 it was 10 cents on inventories of the effects of a
deceased individual and 50 cents on the probate of wills and letters of administration. In 1862 the tax
package included an inheritance tax in addition to the stamp tax of the probate of wills and letter of
administration. Federal death taxes in the United States between 1797 and 1915 appear to have served
as additional revenue sources adopted only during war times (Luckey,

Guy Mills provided the board with a summary of selected site and segment data (see Appendix 1), and
reported that the decreased profits in 2009 were caused by the Site 3 problems, the decrease in market
value, the strengthening Canadian dollar versus the U.S. dollar, and the increased feed costs. He also
indicated that he expected the four sites to yield an average of 3.8 million kilograms (950,000

Given the current market conditions and the risk of having to decrease prices or lose export sales to

Rescuer Persuasive Essay
Every good citizen makes his country s honor his own, and cherishes it not only as precious but as
sacred. He is willing to risk his life in its defense and is conscious that he gains protection while he
gives it Andrew Jackson. This quote proves that a rescuer is willing to risk his life to save and protect
people from danger.
Yes, I think rescuers should rescue people even at risk. First, because it s their job, they get paid for
that. Second, because if they don t rescue people in need who will. Lastly, it s their duty, we need
heros and rescuers with brilliant machines to help those in need.
Rescuers are heros alive or dead but the fact they must accept is that people smart or dumb will climb
the mountain and take a risk, and rescuers have to be aware just incase somethings happens.

Analysis Of Upton Sinclair s The Jungle And The Harvest...
Change is one of the most difficult things to do, it is always difficult to find what to change let alone
how to change. However, one of the key messages a writer can convey to an audience is human
compassion or empathy, to inspire action or change, and to bring about a deeper understanding of the
world. Both writer Upton Sinclair s fiction writing The Jungle and the non fiction writing The Harvest
Gypsies by John Steinbeck inform the reader of the difficulties faced by immigrants and migrant
workers. However while the author of The Jungle , Upton Sinclair, uses descriptive details that show
the plight of the immigrants, it is the deeper understanding of the difficulties faced from the families
in John Steinbeck s The Harvest Gypsies that are more efficacious in evoking compassion and
inspiring change.
In 1906 Upton Sinclair worked side by side with immigrants in the meatpacking industry endeavoring
to reveal what genuinely goes on within the factory walls. While doing so, Upton Sinclair uses details
that evoke compassion while bringing out a deeper understanding of their world. In the fictional
writing The Jungle, the author Upton Sinclair uses details such as ate as much raw blood as food , mile
after mile and describes the immigrant s journey as an endless vista of pain and uncleanliness. Sinclair
describes the journey of the immigrants as a journey of endless suffering. It is the amount of suffering
that the immigrants go through that evoke compassion while

Chapter Summary Of Beastly By Alex Flinn
Chapter 7 In this chapter I learned what literary canon was. I learned that it is a master of works that
are usually studied in college. Writers use elements from kiddie stories to shape their stories. Most of
the time this is too complex to put in a text. Foster also talked about how writers we know tend to take
the basic fairytales and kiddie stories and add depth to them. We all know for example The Wizard of
Oz was turned into Wicked. He also talked about how when reading these type of stories, we want the
strangeness and suspicion but at the same time, we also want to be familiar with the characters and
know who they are. We want to be able to relate to the story in some kind of way. Our responses to a
story are conditioned our encounters before with the original ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Foster also talked about how fairytales. The bible, mythology and other literary works are apart of one
big story. My first example the relates to the chapter is the book Beastly written by Alex Flinn which
is based on Beauty and the Beast but in a more modern way. The way this book relates is Kyle (the
beast) is a mean guy who always pulled pranks on people. Until one day he got cursed and then turned
into a hideous beast and the only way to break the spell is to have a girl fall inlove with his beastly
form and kiss him as proof of her love and the curse will be reversed. Another example that relates to
this chapter would be the novel Great Expectations by Charles Dickens. Which is about a boy Pip who
is controlled by Mrs. Joe( evil step mother). He then runs into Magwich (fairy godmother) who
motivates Pip to learn and love Estella

Psychological Theories Of Psychological Egoism
Do people really perform actions out of the sincere concern for others or are there always hidden
agendas that are egoistically driven? This dissertation will take a closer look at these questions while
exploring the views of psychological egotism and what its supporters believe drives us to act in certain
ways. Although psychological egoism has not been attributed to many philosophers, it brings forth an
interesting debatable point of view of human behavior. While psychological egoism is unquestionably
a perceived theory, there hasn t always been a substantial amount of experimental data that relates to
the debate. However, there has been a good amount of empirical work that started in the late 20th
century pertaining to the study of psychological egoism. There has since been evidence from biology,
neuroscience, and psychology that has inspired interdisciplinary discussions.
Psychological Egoism is an absolutist theory advocating that human being s actions are ultimately
motivated by their own self benefit and self fulfillment. In other words, the belief is that there is

  • 2. Washington Irving’s The Legend of Sleepy Hollow vs. The... When we compare Washington Irving s The Legend of Sleepy Hollow to the 1980 television movie The Legend of Sleepy Hollow starring Meg Foster, Dick Butkus, and Jeff Goldblum, we find that while there are several similarities between the two, there are also some key differences. When we look at various characters as well as the storyline, we see those similarities and differences. Washington Irving s depiction of Katrina Van Tassel is that she was a little of a coquette and liked to mix older and modern fashions she wore the...stomacher of the older time; and withal a provokingly short petticoat, to display the prettiest foot and ankle (Irving 325) because they accentuated her best features. Add in her beauty a blooming lass ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After he expresses his sorrow again, her reply is, Indeed you were, sir (6:56 7:09). She also made sure that when she was leaving, after Ichabod learned who she is, that her father (who hired him) could fire him just as fast (7:21 7:25). An example of her coquettishness is when she ponders the possibility for a girl to have two suitors; and she is called selfish and greedy by another character because the person that already has the best man in the county wrapped around her finger like a wedding ring shouldn t be making google eyes at other men (46:16 46:33); this goes to show a similarity to the written story. During the course of the movie, however, she becomes increasingly interested in Ichabod; she tells another character that she wants a gentle man, an educated man, a quiet man (48:12 48:19). She is in love with Ichabod, which is a contrast to the movie. The ending of their story in the movie is also not the same as the written story; we assume they live happily ever after. Moving from Katrina to her biggest suitor (in every sense of the word), we find that Irving s representation of Abraham Brom Van Brunt, otherwise known as Brom Bones, can be summed up in Irving s own words. His physical appearance, his Herculean frame and great powers of limb (Irving 327), caused Brom to be the object of awe, admiration, and good will by the people of Sleepy Hollow (Irving 328). Brom was generally considered a mixture of entertainment ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Redemption And The Karmic Cycle Every saint has a past and every sinner has a future. Every living being on this planet has flaws, has made errors and has committed sins. It is just to say that life has no favourites, and metes out punishment to anybody who commits mistakes. People eventually pay for their acts of sin. So, why is it that some people are able to make peace with their past mistakes and graciously welcome the life they have in front of them? The answer to this is redemption. Redemption is the second chance life gives us, to atone for our sins, mend our faults and change our story. It is up to every individual how he or she wants to perceive this rare opportunity given by life. This resonates with the philosophy of the karmic cycle. According to renowned mythologist Devdutt Pattanaik, Hindu mythology sees destinations as merely an individual s choice. For a person who believes there is life after death, death is merely an artificial milestone. What is natural, however is action. Every action has a reaction, consequences of which are both short lived and long term. Karma is both the action and the reaction, the cause and the consequence, the stimulus and the ... The attributes of the opponent in the story varies from a king, a titled lord, a rich landowner, or a wealthy farmer with the first two more likely based on English influences and the latter on American. English variations seem to always include the mysterious supernatural Traveling Stranger who bestows the magic drill to Jack based on his demonstrated virtues and kindness. American tales may include the stranger, but downplays the supernatural aspect or even attempts to draw the focus away from magic. One American version has the stranger asking Jack How s your faith, son? before giving him a test. The consequences of failure of the father s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The most common number killed is seven, whereby Jack proceeds to have a belt or belt buckle made to announce his accomplishment. In the Jack, Stiff Dick versions, the lettering reads, Stiff Dick, killed seven with one lick! In less suggestive versions, the message reads, Strong man Jack, killed seven at a whack! After the belt or belt buckle is made, Jack encounters the authority figure of the region who misunderstands the meaning of the message. The king, wealthy land owner, or lord of the region offers Jack a task based on his perception that Jack is a fierce fighter. The first task is to remove a wild boar that has been terrorizing the area, killing livestock and injuring people. Jack is offered a significant amount of money for the removal of the threat because all other men of the expanse are frightened. Jack is fearful of the boar himself, and decides to pretend to accept the offer but planning to slip out of the territory instead. While trying to escape the boar s domain, he instead runs across the animal and is chased. In his attempts to elude the boar, Jack inadvertently traps the animal. Some stories have an old abandoned shack as the trap, some have a pit that the animal falls into, and some have the board tangled in a deadfall. Jack returns to the authority figure and reports that he was unable to find the fierce creature, but he did trap a small pig that he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Human beings, a large percentage of them, are sexual beings and that includes nudists, it is not as if when someone becomes a nudist, their sexuality is stripped off them. Just like any other normal human beings, nudists experience sexual attraction and have sex. They express affection in public regardless of them being naked or with clothes. There may be a strong association between nudity and sex in today s culture, but that is not the case. In nudist settings, people will behave sexually as people on a textile beach setting; they will all act in the same manner, talk about stuff, do skinny dipping, flirt, sunbathe and laugh about stuff. According to the novels of Fahrenheit 451 written by Ray Bradbury and Lamb to the Slaughter written by Roald Dahl, the protagonists of both stories kill their antagonists and escape murder quite easily. The Confederate Wins and Losses On April 12,1865 Confederate warships bombed the union at Fort Sumter in South Carolina and this marked the beginning of one of the worst and deadliest wars fought in the world. It was a war that only lasted around four years but yet took 620,000 of our brothers, sisters, and children with it. Families were torn apart, sons had lost their fathers, mothers lost their sons, and whole towns lost every man they had to give. A war that we fought on our land, a war that made brother fight brother, killed almost as many men as every war America has fought since combined. They under estimated the wholeheartedly fighting Confederate soldiers, the Confederates were not going to give up that easily what they needed, what they wanted, and their way of life. Between the battle of Fort Sumter a Confederate victory and the First battle of Bull Run anther Confederate victory, there were nine other smaller battles many not large enough to truly be called a battle. Of those nine battles three were won by the Confederates and two were inconclusive. At the first battle of Bull Run, the Union still believed that this is going to be a very short war, they believed it so much that spectators came and lined the sides of the battlefield to watch the Union smash the Confederate Army. Employment of Illegal Immigrants Employment of Illegal Immigrants Employment of illegal immigrants in the United States, as well as other countries has been a highly controversial subject for many years now. There are many people living in various countries around the world that are unhappy with the way they are living, and want something more out of life than what their country can offer. Due to their unhappiness, they decide to immigrate to another country, and this is usually done illegally. The dropping time of the parachute was not accurate because it went off course, so it is not reliable as we could not control the factors which affected the parachute. This is because the parachute had more air resistance, but the weight force was less and took way too much time to reach the ground. For example; the weather and weight affected the parachute s drop time and we could ve tested the parachute from different heights to get more accurate and valid results. My results prove my prediction correct that large surface area parachutes will take more time to land as more air particles hit with the parachute. Eleanor is Hill House s main victim; therefore, she can be seen as the women in distress who so often appears in many other Gothic Horror novels. High Tech Inc. is an electronics firm. When the state of the economy is above average or at its boom, consumers purchase more products of High Tech Inc. than they would if the state of the economy gets worse. Under this circumstance, we would expect High Tech s stock price to be high if the economy is well. Thus, High Tech s returns are positively correlated with the economy because the firm s sales, and hence profits will experience the same ups and downs with the economy. The opposite holds true with Collections Inc. because the nature of the business is on collections of past due debts. If the economy is in recession, people are not expected to pay their debts on time. Consequently, this firm will be collecting a lot of past due debts, thus making its stock price to increase. The opposite will happen if the economy is performing well. This explains why Collection s expected return moves counter the economy. Collections Inc. is considered by many investors to be a hedge against bad times and high inflation, so if the stock market crashes, investors in this stock should do relatively well. Therefore, this stock is negatively correlated with the economy. b. John Barry Scientific Method Brandon Altman Ms. Tjarks AP Lang 1A 10 7 14 Rough Draft Science follows a simple methodology, commonly known as the scientific method , which has been in practice since the 15th century. The scientific method was brought up for the many discoveries that were being made during that time, making the unknown become known. When Barry describes this method, he explains that uncertainty must be made into a tool, to find the courage to accept and embrace uncertainty . However that concept can be very delicate and unrealistic for our world, which is why Barry goes on to explain hypothetical situations to utilize the concept. While most agree that estate planning is important, the misconception is that it is too complicated or expensive. The majority do not know that they are indirectly involved in estate planning by enrolling in a pension plan at work and choosing their beneficiary. This paper will examine a simple form of estate planning through different employer benefits and qualified plans; analyze why employer benefits should be considered in estate planning; determine the extent to which an employee factors in estate planning when choosing life or death benefits from his or her job. To help finance the Spanish American War, the War Revenue Act of 1898 was passed, and subsequently abolished in 1902. The 1898 death tax was a form of estate tax, levied upon the value of all personal property included in a decedent s gross estate (Luckey, 2003). A possession passing to a surviving spouse was excluded from the tax, and a $10,000 specific exemption excluded small estates. The tax rates were graduated from 0.74 percent to 15 percent, taking into consideration both the size of the estate and the degree of affiliation of the decedent and the beneficiaries (Luckey, 2003). Due to the cost of World War I, the Revenue Act of 1916 restored an estate tax that has since influenced the current estate tax code (Luckey, 2003). In 1797 it was 10 cents on inventories of the effects of a deceased individual and 50 cents on the probate of wills and letters of administration. In 1862 the tax package included an inheritance tax in addition to the stamp tax of the probate of wills and letter of administration. Federal death taxes in the United States between 1797 and 1915 appear to have served as additional revenue sources adopted only during war times (Luckey, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In addition, Chilean output has increased the supply of salmon and the Canadian dollar has strengthened in relation to the U.S. dollar. As a result, AFC has been unable to meet its budgeted revenue targets. Stocks of unsold harvestable fish have increased, as well as the corresponding cost of maintaining the fish, and the company barely made a profit in fiscal 2009. Guy Mills provided the board with a summary of selected site and segment data (see Appendix 1), and reported that the decreased profits in 2009 were caused by the Site 3 problems, the decrease in market value, the strengthening Canadian dollar versus the U.S. dollar, and the increased feed costs. He also indicated that he expected the four sites to yield an average of 3.8 million kilograms (950,000 kilograms per site) of harvested fish per year, assuming that no further unusual losses were incurred. Given the current market conditions and the risk of having to decrease prices or lose export sales to the U.S., the board decided that the company should move into other markets and diversify into shellfish farming. No dividends would be paid for the next year or two to free up some cash to invest in new projects. The board directed Mills to investigate establishing shellfish aquaculture sites and develop a business strategy for increasing the profitability of the current salmon operations. They indicated that any proposed investment should generate a minimum after tax return of 10% within five years. Shellfish Aquaculture Opportunity Mills explored opportunities for diversifying into shellfish aquaculture. He found two potential opportunities (a mussel farm and an oyster farm) and wondered which one should be pursued or whether both should be pursued. • 38. Rescuer Persuasive Essay Every good citizen makes his country s honor his own, and cherishes it not only as precious but as sacred. He is willing to risk his life in its defense and is conscious that he gains protection while he gives it Andrew Jackson. This quote proves that a rescuer is willing to risk his life to save and protect people from danger. Yes, I think rescuers should rescue people even at risk. First, because it s their job, they get paid for that. Second, because if they don t rescue people in need who will. Lastly, it s their duty, we need heros and rescuers with brilliant machines to help those in need. Rescuers are heros alive or dead but the fact they must accept is that people smart or dumb will climb the mountain and take a risk, and rescuers have to be aware just incase somethings happens. According to the text Everyone is aware of the risk....But actually, risk is part of the attraction it makes it more of a test it gives you more to aim for ( Moreau, lines 56 58)This quote means that people will take the risk no matter what and they take the climb as a challenge. • 39. Analysis Of Upton Sinclair s The Jungle And The Harvest... Change is one of the most difficult things to do, it is always difficult to find what to change let alone how to change. However, one of the key messages a writer can convey to an audience is human compassion or empathy, to inspire action or change, and to bring about a deeper understanding of the world. Both writer Upton Sinclair s fiction writing The Jungle and the non fiction writing The Harvest Gypsies by John Steinbeck inform the reader of the difficulties faced by immigrants and migrant workers. However while the author of The Jungle , Upton Sinclair, uses descriptive details that show the plight of the immigrants, it is the deeper understanding of the difficulties faced from the families in John Steinbeck s The Harvest Gypsies that are more efficacious in evoking compassion and inspiring change. In 1906 Upton Sinclair worked side by side with immigrants in the meatpacking industry endeavoring to reveal what genuinely goes on within the factory walls. While doing so, Upton Sinclair uses details that evoke compassion while bringing out a deeper understanding of their world. In the fictional writing The Jungle, the author Upton Sinclair uses details such as ate as much raw blood as food , mile after mile and describes the immigrant s journey as an endless vista of pain and uncleanliness. Sinclair describes the journey of the immigrants as a journey of endless suffering. It is the amount of suffering that the immigrants go through that evoke compassion while ... • 40. Chapter Summary Of Beastly By Alex Flinn Chapter 7 In this chapter I learned what literary canon was. I learned that it is a master of works that are usually studied in college. Writers use elements from kiddie stories to shape their stories. Most of the time this is too complex to put in a text. Foster also talked about how writers we know tend to take the basic fairytales and kiddie stories and add depth to them. We all know for example The Wizard of Oz was turned into Wicked. He also talked about how when reading these type of stories, we want the strangeness and suspicion but at the same time, we also want to be familiar with the characters and know who they are. We want to be able to relate to the story in some kind of way. Our responses to a story are conditioned our encounters before with the original ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The way this book relates is Kyle (the beast) is a mean guy who always pulled pranks on people. Until one day he got cursed and then turned into a hideous beast and the only way to break the spell is to have a girl fall inlove with his beastly form and kiss him as proof of her love and the curse will be reversed. • 41. Psychological Theories Of Psychological Egoism Do people really perform actions out of the sincere concern for others or are there always hidden agendas that are egoistically driven? This dissertation will take a closer look at these questions while exploring the views of psychological egotism and what its supporters believe drives us to act in certain ways. Although psychological egoism has not been attributed to many philosophers, it brings forth an interesting debatable point of view of human behavior. While psychological egoism is unquestionably a perceived theory, there hasn t always been a substantial amount of experimental data that relates to the debate. However, there has been a good amount of empirical work that started in the late 20th century pertaining to the study of psychological egoism. There has since been evidence from biology, neuroscience, and psychology that has inspired interdisciplinary discussions. Psychological Egoism is an absolutist theory advocating that human being s actions are ultimately motivated by their own self benefit and self fulfillment. In other words, the belief is that there is always an ulterior motive to any behavior one performs for another making such acts beneficial to the performer in one way or another. One argument for psychological egoism suggests that people just do what makes them feel good, thereby making all acts selfish. By taking a more in depth view into all aspects of psychological egoism, one can have a better insight and understanding of why someone may favor ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
