Patient Privacy Laws
1. State laws provide a patient with access to his or her Health Information. Insurance companies and
pharmaceutical companies may have access to a patient s health information since this authorization
was signed and dated by the patient. I would release this information to Aetna. 2. Health Information
must be maintained in compliance with legal and ethical standards. Healthcare organizations must be
very careful in how they use this information on patients. Patient privacy laws govern access and use
of all information. I don t think that the medical student or the department member should be able to
review these records because more than the MI might be found in these records. I would not release
these records to the student although I would

Conrad s Heart Of Darkness
The novel Heart of Darkness, written by Conrad, explores the Congo through Marlow s story. Marlow
discovers the horror behind imperialism through the invasion of Europeans into the Congo, inhabited
by African natives. Conrad includes irony, imagery, and symbolism to criticize white imperialism and
argue that Europeans cause destruction and native societies. In Heart of Darkness, Conrad reverses the
traditional associations with Europeans and natives to argue that the success of a society depends on
its level of morality, which is absent in imperialism. In Conrad s novel, the level of morality of
Europeans and natives are shown through the reverse relationship between Europeans and natives
through their amount of restraint. During the boat ride to Kurtz, Marlow notices the native s restraint
towards man s hardest temptation, hunger. Conrad shows that although the natives have starved
compared to the well fed Europeans, the native s morality stops them from giving into cannibalism:
Restraint... No fear can stand up to hunger... It takes a man all his inborn strength to fight hunger
properly (68). On the same boat ride, fat Europeans demonstrate no restraint compared to the natives
because the Europeans do not hesitate to kill a native if survival must overrule their morals. The
European yells to Marlow, Catch im ... Eat im (66). The Europeans again show no restraint towards
hunger when Kurtz s appetite for more ivory (95) grows, even with the consequence of growing

Similarities Between The Giver And Jonas
Ned, from Code Talker and Jonas from The Giver, are two unique characters. Although they lived in
hugely different societies there many similarities can be drawn between the two. There are obvious
differences between Ned and Jonas. For example, Ned and Jonas lived in completely different
societies with extremely different cultures. Jonas home was very orderly and peaceful, whereas Ned s
gave free will and was experiencing a time of war. Ned could decide what he wanted for his future,
but Jonas had his future chosen for him. There is also a significant difference in the age of the
characters, with Ned being 16 for most of the book and Jonas being around 12. Another very different
cultural aspect of their lives was how their history and ancestry ... Show more content on

Because Ned was a Navajo, he was always looked down upon by white people, even though he was a
Marine. The day Ned returned to America, he went to a bar to get a Coke, but was thrown out military
uniform and all because he was Navajo. After Jonas was chosen to be the next Receiver of Memories,
he was always treated with respect and was even given special privileges. Although there are many
differences between Ned and Jonas, some of what they experienced is alike. Ned and Jonas both went
experienced wartime, just in different ways. On page number 119 of The Giver, Jonas receives a
memory of the aftermath of a battle in a war before his time. Ned traveled all over the Pacific going
from battle to battle fighting alongside other Marines.
The two characters are also similar in that they both have unique abilities. Both Ned and Jonas had
traits that set them apart from the rest of their world. Jonas had the ability to see beyond that
distinguished him from the community. Ned was a part of the Navajo tribe and could speak the Navajo
language. Jonas used his gift to enlighted the rest of the community about the past, and Ned used his

Rhetorical Appeals On The Life Of A Villain
Rhetorical Appeals in the Life of a Villain A villain is just a victim whose story hasn t been told (Chris
Colfer). Stinky Pete of Toy Story 2, is plotted to be the bad guy of the film. He s could also be
classified as a sympathetic villain, which will be explained further later. Now, you may or may not
have heard of the rhetorical appeals before, but little does one know, that the three rhetorical appeals
are applied to the film Toy Story 2 and its villain. Let me break it down for you, long ago, there was a
brilliant man named Aristotle who noticed a pattern that occurred in language to persuade people to
believe a certain thing that was either being marketed, campaigned, or publicly presented. He took
notice in the fact that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Woody, who wanted to go back home to Andy and his friends, was hesitant to agree to go to Japan.
The Prospector then became afraid of going back into storage when he was so close to freedom and
made it his personal goal to keep Woody from leaving. Stinky Pete then became a sympathetic villain
here because the actions and decisions he made were all from a fear of being alone and in a box for the
rest of his life. The prospector then with all his power uses any method to try to keep Woody from
returning home which leads him to use the first rhetorical appeal, ethos. Everybody naturally will
respect an elderly person in their life because of the wisdom and knowledge they have gained over the
years, therefore, it was no different for Woody to naturally respect Stinky Pete. The Prospector used
this to his advantage and created a strong appeal to ethos. Out of all four members, Stinky Pete would
have to be the most valuable since he had never been opened or taken out of his box. Proven by when

Unconscious Mind In Frankenstein
The notion that human beings are motivated, even driven, by desires, fears, needs, and conflicts of
which they are unaware (Tyson 12). Life is driven by desires, fears, needs, and conflicts that are stored
in the unconscious. The unconscious is the control center of the mind, and it decides whether or not
certain memories can be tolerated. If the unconscious determines that a memory can t be handled, two
things can happen: repression of memories or modification of memories. Whereas memory is the
storage of events, perception is the live viewing of those events. Selective perception is hearing and
seeing only what we feel we can handle (Tyson 15). These tactics of the unconscious mind can be
found in Shelley s Frankenstein. Victor s unconscious mind alters or represses memories and
perceptions changing the way his mind functions, throughout the novel. While creating both monsters,
Victor s unconscious mind feels that he can t handle death; he is still not over the death of his mother.
His inability to move on from the death of his mother, is the reason for the creation of the monster.
Victor s traumatic experience with death cause him to selectively modify the consequences that come
from the creation of the monster. The traumatic experience with death is early on in the novel. In
chapter 3 Victor s mother Caroline dies of Scarlet Fever which she contracted from Elizabeth. This
experience changes Victor permanently, he becomes obsessed with bringing her back to life.

Blue Ridge Experience
First at Blue Ridge, Inc. Site Visit For my site visit and interview assignment for HP 2100, Health
Planning, and Evaluation, I chose First at Blue Ridge Inc., a therapeutic community for people with
substance abuse, and their Executive Director, Joseph A. Martinez, J.D. However, this was not my
only time to visit the First. Several years back, I went to the First with a musician friend of mine for a
band practice. Mr. Martinez is an accomplished bass and keyboard player. He gave us a brief tour of
the compound and shared some of his personal history with recovery. The multiple building
complexes are nestled in the woods in Ridgecrest, NC, just east of Black Mountain. The place and its

Program planning was demonstrated with real world applications. I was able to gather enough
information to conclude my ideas on the pros and cons of the agency. Perhaps most importantly, some
avenues of career opportunities were demonstrated with a Health Promotion degree in the substance
abuse field. Since I closed my Three Quarter Way House in Miami in late 1997 and drifted away from
the recovery community, I have had a longing to be involved again. This has formed part of my reason
for continuing my educational pursuits. Mr. Martinez and his staff were generous with their time,
interaction, and advice. On Mr. Martinez s advice, I plan to pursue to become a Certified Peer Support
Specialist to compliment my degree. Also, I plan to attend the Burke County Substance Abuse

Types of Sinkholes
A sinkhole, also called a swallow hole, shakehole, swallet or doline, is a crater in the ground caused
by a sudden collapse of the surface layer whether it is the street, a field, a suburb, city, or other area,.
The causes of sinkholes consist of karst processes such as the chemical dissolution of carbonate rocks
and suffusion processes. The formation of sinkholes involves the processes of erosion. Sinkholes
develop due to surface drainage or running water. Though dry places are thought to have less water,
sinkholes can develop in these areas as well as long as the correct conditions come into play. They can
form from human activity as well like abandoned mines, pipelines and sewers. Sinkholes are most
common in states such as Alabama, Florida, Kentucky, Missouri, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and Texas.
Places with sandstone and quartzite terrains where the rock below the land surface is limestone or any
other carbonate rock that can be dissolved by ground water. When the rock below the surface layer
dissolves, spaces and caverns form underground. Sometimes it can take months or even years for these
caverns to form completely before the ground becomes too weak and collapses suddenly. There are
two main types of sinkholes. The most dangerous type of sinkhole is the cover collapse sinkhole. This
sinkhole shows up unexpectedly and can swallow cars, buildings and even people whole. Cover
collapse sinkholes are the types of sinkholes that

An Age Of Reform Swept
An age of reform swept through our nation due to the unfairness that was happening in our country.
Many people fought for change for themselves and for others that involved problems like alcohol and
humane treatment for the insane. The radicals did their best for what they thought was right and
changed our country for the better. There were costs and benefits to many movements, groups, and
radical individuals who sought change between 1840 and 1877. They created conflict, chaos, and
changes that played a part in making many reforms for their era. One such group that created a change
was the American Temperance Society which was found in 1826. The American Temperance Society
directed its efforts to redeeming not only habitual drunkards but also the occasional drinker (Foner
440). By the 1830s they believed that they had changed the minds of hundreds of thousands of
Americans to give up on alcohol. By 1840, the consumption of alcohol per person had fallen to less
than half the level of a decade earlier (Foner 440). The benefit of this change came with a cost, the
temperance crusade and other reform movements aroused considerable hostility (Foner 441). Horace
Mann who was a lawyer and a Whig politician was the leading education reformer for his era. Mann
hoped that universal public education could restore equality to a fractured society by bringing the
children of all classes together in a common learning experience and equipping the less fortunate to

Hate Crimes Laws And Hate Crime
Hate Crimes
What is a hate crime? Although the definition can vary based on what groups are included (Cogan,
2006, p. 174) the simplest definition would be, violence against a person or group of people based on
their gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, religion, race or disability (Burgess, Regehr, Roberts, 2013).
Hate Crimes do not just effect the victim but also the community. Those who become victims of hate
crime are not chosen at random, it is because of the group they identify with or belong too (Cogan,
2006, p. 174) Hate speech, defined as words used as weapons to ambush, terrorize, wound, humiliate
and degrade (Burgess et al., 2013, p. 480) another person. Violence is seriously damaging to a victim

James Byrd Jr
James Byrd Jr, a man who live in Jasper, Texas who was walking home when he was picked up on the
side of the road by three white men. Byrd, a man who was no stranger to taking rides from people, did
not know they were not going to take him home. Instead, they beat him, chained him to their truck and
dragged him for three miles before eventually being decapitated. Two of the three men had ties to a
white supremacy group (Rosenblatt, 2013)
Both deaths were nothing short of a tragedy. Both deaths effected their families and their
communities. Their death effected the community so much that the effects reached the White House.
Former President, Barrack Obama, heard the voices of those effected by Hate Crime. He signed into
law the Hate Crimes Prevention Act. Former President George W. Busch had threated in the past to
veto this bill, but Obama brought a reversal and in October 2009 signed this act into law ( Cnn.com,
2009). Former President Obama said after he signed the law into effect Today, I m pleased to prove

Haversian Bone
Journal article write up Spatial organization of the haversian bone in man
The strength of the human bone depends on the microstructure contained inside. Every human bone
contains osteons, these are aligned in a certain way, osteonal orientation. Usually in humans they are
grouped in two antirotary system of opposite direction in the shaft of the bone (diaphysis). There is a
general hypothesis that the direction of these osteons is a functional adaptation and depends on the
direction of the first stress that acts on the bone. There are a few others who looked into this
hypothesis but they considered a sheep tibia. Here the writer of the article is trying to determine the
osteonal direction in a human femurs and evaluate the results to see if the above hypothesis was good.
In this study the angle of osteonal orientation was measured and also the direction. ... Show more

Niccolo Machiavelli Characteristics
Niccolo Machiavelli and The Prince
Life Sketch
Niccolo Machiavelli was born in Florence on 3rd May 1469. He was born into a family which was
part of the old Florentine nobility. His father, Bernardo di Stefano Nelli, was a lawyer of some repute
and his mother was Bartolommea di Stefano Nelli. He was a member of the lawyer s guild which
influenced Florentine politics. His father, who had a love for literature and the arts had many powerful
contacts in Florence s political circles, which later provided Machiavelli a chance to enter the field of
public service. Machiavelli s life falls naturally into 3 periods his youth (1469 94), his time in office
(1494 1512) and finally his literature and death (1512 27). Each of these periods constitutes ... Show

However he must not be too kind. A prince who so long as keeps his subjects united and loyal,
shouldn t mind the criticism he gets for being cruel. He gives the example of Borgia, who was
considered cruel but managed to unite and reconcile the Romagna. According to Machiavelli, new
princes especially cannot avoid being cruel as new states are always full of dangers which may cause
the prince to lose power. He says that a prince must not be too trustworthy and naive nor must he be so
untrustworthy that he becomes intolerable. On this note, he brings up the famous question of whether
it is better to be loved or to be feared. He says that a prince must be both loved and feared and that if
this is not possible, it is always better to be feared than to be loved. He says that men are
ungrateful, fickle, cowardly and greedy. They will be with the prince as long as the prince benefits
them, but they will surely abandon him when there is trouble. This is because people will break the
ties of love when it is inconvenient to them, but the fear of punishment will not go away so easily. He
says that the princes must be careful not to make himself hated and only feared and he can achieve this
by staying away from the citizen s property and women. People will forget the death of a loved one
earlier than the loss of an inheritance

The Lost Honour of Katharina Blum
The Lost Honour of Katharina Blum
Knowing about the writer of a literary text can shape significantly the way that it is read. Consider the
effect of the writer s context on your understanding of The Lost Honour of Katharina Blum.
As a writer of fiction Böll was interpreting history, creating patterns of meaning, ordering his material
to enable his reader to make sense of it. The experiences of Böll and his values that arose from these
events have been influential on the content and themes of Böll s novel, The Lost Honour of Katharina
Blum. Böll experienced both the first and second world wars and the effects that these wars had on
German society. Events such as the economic collapse in Germany post WWII, the construction of the

No, he could offer no proof of his claim nor did he want to, he even said he did not need to, he could
still rely on his sense of smell and he had simply smelled that Blum was a Communist. These
accusations are made without any supportive evidence and despite the clear capitalist platforms that
Katharina has based her life upon such as carefully saving up enough money to buy an apartment and
a car. Anyone who offered resistance to the dominant hegemonic structures in society was viewed with
suspicion and claimed to be a communist. The only result for Blorna was that, at the conclusion of his
inquiries in the village, he was himself described, if not precisely abused, as a Communist The press
spread such fear and paranoia about this ideology when in fact Böll felt that some aspects of
communism would benefit a capitalist society. Brettloh makes the statement,
That s how false ideas about socialism are bound to end. I ask you and your readers: How does a
housemaid come by such wealth? Not honestly that s for sure. Now I know why I was always scared
by her radical views, her hostility to the Church
This fear is then spread in society, tainting the way that others view Katharina. Dr Heinin goes on to
express, mistakenly assuming her to be a Marxist (probably he too had read the insinuation of
Brettloh ), was taken aback by

Tomato Gravy ( Sunday Gravy )
For my project, I will be making tomato gravy. Although tomato gravy and tomato sauce share similar
ingredients, tomato gravy is simmered with some type of meat such as meatballs, pork necks, sausage,
poultry, or braciole (pronounced bra shol ) and is cooked for several hours giving it a thicker gravy
like consistency. Some of the main ingredients in my recipe is canned tomatoes (both peeled and
crushed), tomato paste, garlic, and parmesan cheese (Romano preferred).
For as long as long as I can remember, my mother always made tomato gravy on Sundays. My family,
and many Italian American families, calls it gravy. Don t get this confused with the type of gravy you
would put on mashed potatoes we call that brown gravy . I could never ... Show more content on

(Carol Marchese, 1979)
After the tomato paste is browned the next thing we do is prepare the meat. My mom normally made
meatballs or pork necks. When making the meatballs my mom preferred using ground beef (at least
85% fat). She would hand mix the ground beef with minced garlic, parsley, egg, bread crumbs, salt,
pepper, and most importantly, Romano cheese (Locatelli preferred) into a large bowl until it was well
blended and form meatballs about the size of a golf ball. Using the same sauté pan used to brown the
tomato paste she would brown the meatballs with a little oil (enough to coat the pan). If she were
making pork necks, she d season the pork necks with salt amp; pepper and brown the pork necks in
garlic flavored oil. After the meat is browned it is placed in the large pot of simmering tomato gravy.
To be certain that all the meat remnants and drippings were incorporated in the large pot, she would
ladle tomato sauce into the sauce pan, under low heat, and scrape all the bits up with a wooden spoon.
Then transfer the meat bits and tomato sauce back to the large pot of tomato gravy.
Sunday visits weren t just about the dinners. It was a day to spend with family to laugh, play, and
socialize. A Sunday wasn t complete without the food, wine (for the adults of course) laughter, and a

Indoor Tanning Creams
There are many indoor tanners these days, and so it stands to reason that a lot of them use an indoor
tanning lotion. The reason for these products is so a person can get a brilliant color as quickly as
possible. And, this is also helpful as someone can get the shade he or she wants, without spending too
much time to get it.
This cream works a bit different from those outdoor lotions. Outdoor products are used so a person
can block those UV rays from their skin while they are playing in nature, yet still get some color. This
product, on the other hand, is formulated to encourage rapid color gain for the person who is tanning

the good news is that they can be found for purchase several places. One of the easiest ways to find
them is by going to a local salon. Although it s true that someone will usually have to pay retail, the
spas and salons have a greater selection than other stores that may carry them.
A really smart way to find these tanning items is by checking one s local beauty supply shop. Not only

individual can usually get them for a significantly cheaper cost, as well. The only negative aspect is
that sometimes the beauty supply stores only carry a few of the brands, thereby limiting

Film Analysis Of SinginIn The Rain
Singin in the Rain is a charming, film musical about two silent film actors, a pianist, and a chorus girl,
tackling the transition from silent films to talking films in 1920 s Hollywood. With talking films on
the rise, this group must conjure up a way to save their latest silent film before The Jazz Singer and
talkies take over and shut them down. This movie is one of the most beloved, classic films of all time.
This film, co directed by the leading male, Gene Kelly and Stanley Donen, follows the beloved and
famous silent actors and on screen couple, Don Lockwood (Gene Kelly) and Lina Lamont (Jean
Hagen). Don has worked exceptionally hard to become as successful as he is today with the help of his
lifetime friend and partner, Cosmo (Donald O Connor). When Don and Lina s latest film is
transformed into a musical in order to be saved, Don has the voice for it, however, his on screen love
interest, Lina does not. This gives Don the opportunity to bring in Kathy Seldon (Debbie Reynolds),
his off screen love interest and aspiring actress with a beautiful voice to replace Lina s horrid
croaking. The only problem is Lina, will she continue to climb her way up to the talking pictures
while taking everyone else down with her lack of talent, or will she step aside for the good of all and
let Kathy take her place both on the silver screen and in the heart of Don Lockwood? Now, because
this film is a musical, it is filled with an abundance of dance sequences which also means it is

The Trial Of Galileo And The Catholic Church
In the Trial of Galileo, The Roman Catholic church is the largest christian church in the Western
civilization .The moral aspect concerns salvation. The Catholic Church was directed by the Holy
Scripture by the Church Fathers, which provided the means of eternal salvation: those don t renounce
the Catholic Church of Catholicism place their souls in peril. Protestantism was an enemy Galileo had
encountered but it derives the Catholic Church of converts because it deprives people from the true
ideal of salvation amongst early catholic people. But in some situations got difficult for Galileo to
handle more than one role played. The Galileo case for many anti catholics, is to be proven that church
abhors science, refuse to abandon outdated teachings. The Church was not anti scientific but it
supported scientific endeavors for centuries. The Jesuits were a respected group of astronomers and
scientist in Rome during Galileo s time. Individuals and church officials and from the church, were
many notable scientist who received fundings. During this time period Church funding from many
scientific advances were contributed by clerics. Therefore if Galileo had not been prosecuted with the
political controversy of the Catholic Church, he would have lived a longer life contributing more
towards his theories and inventions as a scientist than his religious obedience.
The Catholic Church teaches the most important that is the one true church founded by Jesus Christ.

Homeless People Could Be a Great Resource
Have you ever felt so angry when you gave someone the money that you worked very hard to earn,
and then he or she wasted it on some unacceptable purposes? Yes, it has been one of my first lessons
since I immigrated to the United States. During January of 2012, most of the weekdays, my brother
gave a homeless man some quarters or one dollar when we were going to work. This homeless man
stood in an intersection and begged for charity from the public. However, my brother met him at a
convenient store, and witnessed him buying some lotteries. Should this homeless man spend his
begging money on gambling or on daily necessities such as foods and a place to sleep? Another
example is a homeless man who bought three houses and had four wives with some children from
public charity has been charged for tax problems. These men are a part of the large population of
homeless citizens in the United States. According to the National Alliance to End Homelessness, the
amount of homeless is roughly estimated to be between 2.3 million and 3.5 million people. That is
approximately 1 in 100 people living without a home or living on the streets every night with no job,
no car, and no responsibilities. Obviously, we need to figure out a way to fix these homeless problems.
Many experts have discussed and suggested uncounted solutions. However, we could easily fix the
homeless problem by gathering them and using them as a resource. As I mentioned, homeless people
could be a great resource. Just

High Stakes Testing And Statewide Standards
High stakes testing and statewide standards The Department of Education concludes that high stakes
testing and statewide standards puts too strain on both the teacher and student. Multiple studies show
evidence of miscalculation of scores, teachers being blamed for low test score, and too much time
spent on preparation for the tests. The purpose of this policy brief is to elaborate on the non beneficial
components of high stakes testing and statewide standards. Thus, peer reviewed research articles and
evidential articles are reviewed on high stakes testing and statewide standards. In addition, the state of
Florida has shown the greatest amount of dissatisfied outcomes. The information provided in this
policy brief will precisely indicate why high stakes testing and statewide standards should be
abandoned from the school system. I request the action of Congress to outlaw high stakes testing and
statewide standards for the betterment of all National citizens by passing a new law to force states
away from standardized testing.
For the past 15 years, the No Child Left Behind Law (NCLB), every state has been required to provide
each child with a test. This occurs every year; K 8th grade is tested on math and reading, and once in
high school. Furthermore, districts have added a variety of tests to follow state mandated tests. The
Counsel of the Great City schools concluded that students take approximately 113 tests between
grades K 12. Roberta Munoz (2006)

Adhesive Capsulitis Research Paper
Low Level Laser Therapy on Adhesive Capsulitis Adhesive capsulitis is a problem that therapeutic
ultrasound, low level laser therapy, inferential current, TENS, and pulsed electromagnetic field
therapy have not been researched enough to see if it works. This study was done to see if low level
laser treatment and exercise improved patients pain, functional impairment, and active shoulder
abduction versus a placebo and exercise. The study was set up by the Cochrane Library. They
researched all the recent articles on electrotherapy modalities on adhesive capsulitis and then formed
their study. It was a randomized control test, using clinical trials using a quasi randomized method of
allocation. There were nineteen trials and 1,249 participants and their average age was fifty five, sixty
one percent were women. Participants had adhesive capsulitis for an average of 5.5 months, and the
average duration of low laser treatment was four weeks. No one was excluded from the study and the
only criterion for the study was that participants needed to have adhesive capsulitis. ... Show more

Anglo Saxon Values In Beowulf
Within every culture come certain values and beliefs that signify them. The Anglo Saxons have prided
themselves on their great heroic warriors throughout the years. To be a hero was the greatest form of
respect to them, and to achieve such greatness you need to have bravery, faith, strength and loyalty. In
the story, Beowulf, the great warrior embodies all of the coveted traits of an Anglo Saxon warrior. The
significance of bravery, faith, strength and loyalty are shown heavily in Beowulf, accurately detailing
the Anglo Saxon culture and their beliefs in its entirety. Loyalty is one of the most prominent values of
an Anglo Saxon, and of a great warrior such as Beowulf. Within their culture, they thrived off of their
loyalty to one another, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the poem Beowulf is constantly prided on his physical strength, making him irresistible to women
and a person to envy or look up to for men. During the epic poem we hear of Beowulf constantly
being at top physical stature, an example being him ripping Grendel s arm off bare handed during their
bloody brawl; Clear proof of this could be seen in the hand the hero displayed high up near the roof:
the whole of Grendel s shoulder and arm, his awesome grasp . This shows that with his physical
strength and Gods well doing, he was able to bring the shoulder of Grendel as a trophy of his hard
earned win. Another one of the many examples of his physical strength is the recalling of a swimming
match between a foe of his, and how he had lost the battle, but not for the reasons that people believe;
However it occurred, my sword had killed nine sea monsters. Such night dangers and hard ordeals I
have never heard of nor of a man more desolate in surging waves. But worn out as I was, I survived,
came through with my life . Within Unferth trying to push Beowulf down from the high pedestal he
has been put up on by recalling a past swimming match, Beowulf has countered with a statement that
is more heroic that anything Unferth has ever done. Strength is completely embodied in Beowulf and
contributes to him being an Anglo Saxon

Syria Conflict Essay
Introduction
The Syrian Arab Republic is an Arab country in Western Asia, bordering Lebanon and the
Mediterranean Sea to the West, Turkey to the North, Iraq to the East, Jordan to the South, and Israel to
the Southwest. In March 2011, the Syria conflict has begun due to various reasons and is still going on
today. This outbreak is one of the key factors which resulted the Arab Spring (Arab Uprising). Arab
Spring refers to the democratic uprisings that arose independently and spread across the Arab world in
2011. The protest originated in Tunisia in December 2010 and quickly took hold in Egypt, Libya,

Syrian Confliction review
The first protest erupted on March 2011 in Deraa after the arrest and torture of some teenagers who
were painted with revolutionary slogans on a school wall. In order to manage the uncontrollable
chaotic situation, minimum military forces were suitably in place to minimise the protest through the
use of checkpoint road blocks. As the protest continued and spread widely over the country the
citizens demanded for the President Bashar Al Assad s resignation. By July 2011 hundreds of thousand
people taking to streets, town and cities across the countries such as Alepo, Hama, Homs and Deraa

forces to crush the dissent and sending tanks to Deraa in late March 2011. Rockets and mortars were
also used to hit the rebel stronghold (See Appendix 1.1 Homs Feb 2012). After a month of
bombardment, the rebels retreated with an estimate of more than 700 people were killed. People
within the country have to flee to neighboring countries such as Turkey up to several months.

In order to find a protocol to systematically search and identify studies researching the effectiveness of
training programmes in ethics and its influence on ethical leadership and ethical behaviour, previous
systematic reviews on these topics were searched. However, no review protocols were found.
Consequently, to ensure transparency with this systematic review, an evidence based checklist was
used to guide this review s methodology. Specifically, this review followed the Preferred Reporting
Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta Analysis Protocols (PRISMA P) statement, designed by
PROSPERO in order to organise this research report (Moher et al., 2015). PROSPERO is an

in organisations (private and non private) using interventions incorporating ethics training. According
to Kelly, Sadeghieh and Adeli (2014), peer reviewed literature can ensure credibility to findings,
because it allows scholarly work to be critically examined by other researchers in the same field. As a
result, full text, empirical peer reviewed journal articles and dissertations were considered for
inclusion in this review. Studies for inclusion reported the development of ethical leaders where
training programmes formed part of the intervention. Types of participants. Studies considering

Basic Aspects Of A Wooden Armoire
It s true that you can store many different items in a wooden armoire. It has various, functional aspects
as a storage unit. You can store your television and stereo equipment in an armoire, use it to store
clothes and you can use it for a computer/sewing area. The armoire s you purchase are very nice, but
you ll have a one of a kind piece of furniture if you build your own. Follow the directions below to do
just that.
The easiest way to create the wooden armoire of your choice is to draw it out on a piece of paper. If
you ve never built any furniture before it may be easiest to draw simple squares and rectangles.
Don t start out with a lot of complicated shapes and designs. A few sheets of paper, a ruler and a pencil
will get you going. Make a plan on separate sheets of paper for each side, front and back. You ll of
course want to be sure to label what each sheet is.
You ll want to measure the area where you decide to locate your armoire. It s a good idea to know
what you ll be using the armoire for; this makes location a little simpler. If it s to be used for TV
entertainment, place it so people won t have to struggle to watch it. If you intend to use it for home
office, you ll want it in a kind of out of the way area or your office.
For units like TV, you ll want to measure these things to place them inside your wooden armoire. The
same is true of computer components and the monitor.
You ll need some ¾ plywood for the panels on the side of your

The remnant sludge is dried leaving a biosolid high in metals and contaminants which is considered
unsafe for human contact and is currently stored onsite (Melbourne Water 2014). As with most
technology the definition of state of the art is incredibly subjective and is rooted in social and
economic issues (Diaper Sharma 2007). For the treatment of sewerage this is particularly true and it is
hard to separate technology from social and economic issues, as such both will be addressed together.
Currently most of the technology used is state of the art based on the on recent implementation of the
new upgrade to the treatment process by the addition of tertiary processing (Melbourne Water 2014).
There are always improvements in technology that could be implemented but when taking in to
consideration the low economic viability of many new technologies for a commercial scale at the
present time, the current technology is cutting edge for its purpose and cost (Melbourne Water 2014).
As new technology becomes more economical than this question will have to be readdressed. For
example a state of the art water treatment technology that could be employed would be any pressure
driven membrane filtration such as reverse osmosis, nanofiltration, ultrafiltration, and microfiltration

The European Union And The United Kingdom
The European Union and the United Kingdom have a long history. Winston Churchill himself is
credited with bringing about the idea for the EU as a United State of Europe . Many in the U.K are
now starting to feel that this may not be the best alliance the U.K could be in. The EU is seen by many
Brits as being too much oversight for too little gains. The U.K does not even identify as majorly
European, and therefore believe they should not have the oversight of the EU. The United Kingdom
leaving the EU should be seen as a major issue, and may be a reality by the end of the decade. If this
were to happen it would have major geopolitical effects on the EU as a whole. The idea of the U.K not
being wholly European is nothing new, the first ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This wording only allows for the two possibilities, but Cameron would prefer a third option. The
Conservatives want to somehow work out a deal with the EU to allow the U.K to stay as a free trade
partner but not to be bound by EU policy. Germany has heavily opposed a special U.K status, but is
not opposed to the idea of multiple statuses within the EU for members. If the referendum passes
before these reforms are made the U.K will leave the European Union, this leads most to expect that
the U.K would quickly sign free trade agreements with all the other European nations. Brits currently
favor cession with 50% of those polled favoring it, and 36% not favoring it. The U.K perspective on
this is that many people support this, but there is a divide between the public and the corporate world.
The U.K identify closer to countries like Australia, Canada, and the U.S than they do with the EU.
This feeling of being British, not European has only helped strengthen the argument for cession. The
major group not supporting cession is large corporations, while in the EU It is far easier for them to do
business than if they had to deal with a renegotiated Eurozone. Many Brits do not see the EU to be
giving them much benefit, this is perhaps the primary reason for leaving the EU. The EU costs Britain
quite a bit of pounds each year to maintain relations with them, and many brits say it is time for the

Gender Bias Of Face Recognition
The ability of humans to recognise and remember faces is remarkable. Interestingly, there seem to be
many factors that influence the performance of facial recognition, such as age, gender, race and even
particular social or cultural groups that people belong to.
This experiment explores whether there is gender bias in face recognition.
Own gender bias in facial recognition is the tendency to recognise individuals from one s own gender
better than individuals from the other gender (Herlitz Lovén, 2013).
Categorisation Individuation model: (Herlitz Lovén, 2013)
Categorisation: classification of face according to shared group features
Individuation: classification of faces according to individual features
Individuation is more effective with faces you are most familiar with. Our perceptual expertise comes
from early childhood caregivers, friendship groups, cultural representations etc. (Herlitz Lovén, 2013)
Categorisation is more effective when faces belong to a group you identify with. Out group faces are
processed categorically, whilst in group faces are processed individually. In groups can include
gender, age, ethnicity, membership or organisations etc. (Wolff, Kemter, Schweinberger Wiese, 2014)

Reaction Paper On Hedonism
Hedonism is the view that pleasure is the sole intrinsic good in human life, and that pain is the sole
intrinsic bad in human life. Is hedonism the correct view about what is good for humans? Why or why
not? Discuss, with reference to the arguments of John Stuart Mill ( Hedonism ) and/or Robert Nozick (
The Experience Machine ) contained in the course text.
Hedonism, the idea that pleasure is the primary goal in human life, while pain is the solitary intrinsic
bad in human life. I will be looking to prove that despite its initial plausibility, there are flaws in the
concept. In this essay, I will be considering what motivations are behind hedonism and how they can
be contradicted with references to the arguments of John Stuart Mill and Robert ... Show more content

The theory suggests that pleasure and pain rarely have lasting effects on human happiness, and that we
instead maintain a constant level of happiness throughout our lives. Therefore, the pursuit of pleasure
would be futile as increases in our overall happiness would be only temporary. This idea of
temporariness is explained by the fact that the pleasures and riches we gain, will simply increase our
own expectations, leaving us no better off than we were before. In addition, this theory holds
empirical evidence behind it. In 1978, Brickman found that 22 lottery winners reported similar
happiness levels before and after their win, and expected to have a similar level of happiness levels in
the near future. With this in mind, how could the pursuit of pleasure be the primary goal in human life,
as perceived advances in pleasure hold no real

The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow Essay
It was, as I have said, a fine autumnal day; the sky was clear and serene, and nature wore that rich and
golden livery which we always associate with the idea of abundance. The forests had put on their
sober brown and yellow, while some trees of the tenderer kind had been nipped by the frosts into
brilliant dyes of orange, purple, and scarlet.
In Washington Irving The Legend of sleepy Hollow, setting, characterization, and Irony affect the
protagonist in several ways. The night setting is important because it further emphasizes the
superstitious theme. A somnolent, illusory effect appears to be dangling around the surrounding, and
to spread through the air (Irving). This passage shows, for instance, some of the villagers believe that
the town was bewitched by a German doctor. The villagers frequently hear voices, strange music and
see strange sights. Not to mention the hessian trooper ghost that haunts the valleys. It is said that
during the Revolutionary war his head was carried away by a cannon ball and that he rides on a haunt
for his head. These superstitions tales of the town make the villagers afraid of the headless horseman.
All things considered, most of the villagers were terrified of the many supernatural stories they heard
and also terror stuck about the headless horseman.
The time period in which the story took place is important because of the war. From the lifeless
inactivity of the atmosphere, and the unusual persona of its residents who are ancestors

Lou Reed The Velvet Underground
The New York rock band, The Velvet Underground became a vital chapter in musical history as they
emerged into the work in 1964. Initially the band achieved little critical recognition with the release of
four studio albums between their formation in 1964 and the bands departure in 1973. Today The

What Do The Oil Numbers
What do the oil numbers 10W 30 mean? Your engines rotating parts are protected from heat and
friction by a thin layer of oil. We have seen the numbers on the oil bottles and read what the
manufacturers recommend for the oil but, how were those numbers derived? The increase in
technology has changed the way it was measured, but the numbers have stayed consistent so as not to
make consumers learn a new system, or have the oil manufacturers feel obligated to list both the old
numbers and the new numbers on the labels. Multi grade oils are the best of both worlds and this
accomplished by using additives to increase viscosity with the increase temperature. There are many
types of lubricants, just make sure that you are using engine oil, and the engine oil for your type of
engine, two or four stroke engines, as other lubricants have similar gradings. A little history of oil: In
1866, Medical Doctor John Ellis was trying to determine if there were any medicinal properties of
crude oil. He did not find any medical properties, but realized that there were potentials in lubrication
for steam engines. At that time, lubrication was mainly animal or vegetable fat, and that has started to
come back around full circle, but has potential since new technology for refining those fats into a
more usable lubrication. He then founded the Predecessor to Valvoline oil, Continuous Oil Refining
Company and put his medical practice on hold indefinitely. He patented several refining methods

  • 3. Conrad s Heart Of Darkness The novel Heart of Darkness, written by Conrad, explores the Congo through Marlow s story. Marlow discovers the horror behind imperialism through the invasion of Europeans into the Congo, inhabited by African natives. Conrad includes irony, imagery, and symbolism to criticize white imperialism and argue that Europeans cause destruction and native societies. In Heart of Darkness, Conrad reverses the traditional associations with Europeans and natives to argue that the success of a society depends on its level of morality, which is absent in imperialism. In Conrad s novel, the level of morality of Europeans and natives are shown through the reverse relationship between Europeans and natives through their amount of restraint. During the boat ride to Kurtz, Marlow notices the native s restraint towards man s hardest temptation, hunger. Conrad shows that although the natives have starved compared to the well fed Europeans, the native s morality stops them from giving into cannibalism: Restraint... No fear can stand up to hunger... It takes a man all his inborn strength to fight hunger properly (68). On the same boat ride, fat Europeans demonstrate no restraint compared to the natives because the Europeans do not hesitate to kill a native if survival must overrule their morals. The European yells to Marlow, Catch im ... Eat im (66). The Europeans again show no restraint towards hunger when Kurtz s appetite for more ivory (95) grows, even with the consequence of growing ... The prospector then with all his power uses any method to try to keep Woody from returning home which leads him to use the first rhetorical appeal, ethos. • 6. Unconscious Mind In Frankenstein The notion that human beings are motivated, even driven, by desires, fears, needs, and conflicts of which they are unaware (Tyson 12). Life is driven by desires, fears, needs, and conflicts that are stored in the unconscious. The unconscious is the control center of the mind, and it decides whether or not certain memories can be tolerated. If the unconscious determines that a memory can t be handled, two things can happen: repression of memories or modification of memories. Whereas memory is the storage of events, perception is the live viewing of those events. Selective perception is hearing and seeing only what we feel we can handle (Tyson 15). These tactics of the unconscious mind can be found in Shelley s Frankenstein. Victor s unconscious mind alters or represses memories and perceptions changing the way his mind functions, throughout the novel. While creating both monsters, Victor s unconscious mind feels that he can t handle death; he is still not over the death of his mother. His inability to move on from the death of his mother, is the reason for the creation of the monster. Victor s traumatic experience with death cause him to selectively modify the consequences that come from the creation of the monster. The traumatic experience with death is early on in the novel. In chapter 3 Victor s mother Caroline dies of Scarlet Fever which she contracted from Elizabeth. This experience changes Victor permanently, he becomes obsessed with bringing her back to life. ... Types of Sinkholes A sinkhole, also called a swallow hole, shakehole, swallet or doline, is a crater in the ground caused by a sudden collapse of the surface layer whether it is the street, a field, a suburb, city, or other area,. The causes of sinkholes consist of karst processes such as the chemical dissolution of carbonate rocks and suffusion processes. The formation of sinkholes involves the processes of erosion. Sinkholes develop due to surface drainage or running water. Though dry places are thought to have less water, sinkholes can develop in these areas as well as long as the correct conditions come into play. Many people fought for change for themselves and for others that involved problems like alcohol and humane treatment for the insane. The radicals did their best for what they thought was right and changed our country for the better. There were costs and benefits to many movements, groups, and radical individuals who sought change between 1840 and 1877. They created conflict, chaos, and changes that played a part in making many reforms for their era. One such group that created a change was the American Temperance Society which was found in 1826. The American Temperance Society directed its efforts to redeeming not only habitual drunkards but also the occasional drinker (Foner 440). By the 1830s they believed that they had changed the minds of hundreds of thousands of Americans to give up on alcohol. By 1840, the consumption of alcohol per person had fallen to less than half the level of a decade earlier (Foner 440). The benefit of this change came with a cost, the temperance crusade and other reform movements aroused considerable hostility (Foner 441). Multiple studies show evidence of miscalculation of scores, teachers being blamed for low test score, and too much time spent on preparation for the tests. The purpose of this policy brief is to elaborate on the non beneficial components of high stakes testing and statewide standards. Thus, peer reviewed research articles and evidential articles are reviewed on high stakes testing and statewide standards. In addition, the state of Florida has shown the greatest amount of dissatisfied outcomes. The information provided in this policy brief will precisely indicate why high stakes testing and statewide standards should be abandoned from the school system. For the past 15 years, the No Child Left Behind Law (NCLB), every state has been required to provide each child with a test. The study was set up by the Cochrane Library. They researched all the recent articles on electrotherapy modalities on adhesive capsulitis and then formed their study. It was a randomized control test, using clinical trials using a quasi randomized method of allocation. There were nineteen trials and 1,249 participants and their average age was fifty five, sixty one percent were women. During the epic poem we hear of Beowulf constantly being at top physical stature, an example being him ripping Grendel s arm off bare handed during their bloody brawl; Clear proof of this could be seen in the hand the hero displayed high up near the roof: the whole of Grendel s shoulder and arm, his awesome grasp . This shows that with his physical strength and Gods well doing, he was able to bring the shoulder of Grendel as a trophy of his hard earned win. Another one of the many examples of his physical strength is the recalling of a swimming match between a foe of his, and how he had lost the battle, but not for the reasons that people believe; However it occurred, my sword had killed nine sea monsters. Such night dangers and hard ordeals I have never heard of nor of a man more desolate in surging waves. But worn out as I was, I survived, came through with my life . The forests had put on their sober brown and yellow, while some trees of the tenderer kind had been nipped by the frosts into brilliant dyes of orange, purple, and scarlet. In Washington Irving The Legend of sleepy Hollow, setting, characterization, and Irony affect the protagonist in several ways. The night setting is important because it further emphasizes the superstitious theme. A somnolent, illusory effect appears to be dangling around the surrounding, and to spread through the air (Irving). This passage shows, for instance, some of the villagers believe that the town was bewitched by a German doctor. The villagers frequently hear voices, strange music and see strange sights. Not to mention the hessian trooper ghost that haunts the valleys. It is said that during the Revolutionary war his head was carried away by a cannon ball and that he rides on a haunt for his head. These superstitions tales of the town make the villagers afraid of the headless horseman.
