Analysis Of Frank Jackson s Paper, Epiphenomenal Qualia,...
In Frank Jackson s paper, Epiphenomenal Qualia, Jackson rejects physicalism, a philosophical
theory that states that everything in the world that exists, including all that is mental, is physical.
Additionally, physicalists believe that everything in the world can be explained through the laws of
fundamental physics. Furthermore, Jackson uses thought experiments such as Mary s room, in
order to demonstrate the non physical nature that certain experiences can create. Rather, Jackson
believes that these non physical experiences can be explained by information known as
epiphenomenal qualia. In this paper, I argue that Jackson successfully introduces epiphenomenalism
and proves his theory that physicalismis false, since there are certain experiences, or qualia , that we
have that can t simply be explained through physical notions.
In order to fully understand how Jackson came up with his argument, one must first understand
what the words physicalism and epiphenomenal qualia actually mean in relation to Jackson s paper.
Jackson explains physicalism as a certain type of materialism, which is the belief that there s only
one main substance in the world and that is matter, or the physical material that make up the
material world. Materialism essentially rejects substance dualism, which says that there are two
different types of substances that exist, the matter that make up the material world and the mind,
which is responsible for our mental awareness and how we feel

Social Location In Sociology
After reading all fourth articles, I believe I have a stronger understanding of sociology. However,
it is complex and I still have a lot to learn to fully grasp the significance of sociology. One thing I
ve never thought to analyze is social location which is seen in all four articles. Social location is an
important concept in sociologybecause it gives you a better understanding of what category people
belong to in society. What makes up a social location is obviously the location, race, religion,
gender, and culture.
We need to look beyond people s individual motivations or their psychological foundations and gain
a better understanding of how people s social location with regard to gender or race influences their
thinking and behavior

Persuasive Speech About Stereotypes
Don t be racist, be PewDiePie. He is Swedish, looks American, lives in the UK, has an Italian
girlfriend, and likes Mexican candy. The U.S. is no longer as racist as it used to be, as 200 years
ago, you were likely a slave because of your skin color. However, today many Americans are being
racist to Asians in a new way: stereotyping. Hello, I m Dexter Chen, and today I will be discussing
why you shouldn t stereotypeAsians because stereotypes aren t true, are extremely discouraging,
and because stereotyping is offensive in general. Before we get into this topic, let me explain what
stereotyping is. Stereotyping is judging a group, religion, ethnicity, or even gender, although these
stereotypes might not reflect on reality. This is caused by social media, the human tendency to
reduce complex things to simple things, and prejudice. You might be thinking to yourself: Gee, how
is stereotyping offensive? It s just a playful way of describing someone! If you are thinking that
doubtful thought, then pay attention, because I will show you why you shouldn t stereotype
anyone, especially Asians. First things first: Stereotypes are usually untrue. An average Asian
Americanstereotype would be nerdy, introverted, and smart. That stereotype isn t even close to
true. Imagine 4.4 billion people all being nerdy, smart, and introverted. That s literally not possible.
Everyone s different in their own ways. Are all Americans stupid and fat? Because that s what the
rest of the world thinks

How Social Media Has Changed Our Culture
Social media has changed our culture in ways many, in years past, would have thought to be
impossible. With the advent of social media, people are connected around the world. Using the
internet we can have face to face conversations, write letters , play games, and much more with
others instantly without the need of being in the same room as them. Even though we are all
constantly connected, some feel our technological innovations are causing us to become lonelier.
Many feel physical interactions are key to creating emotional bonds. Some even feel left out
because they are not technologically incline. Those who believe technologyis making us lonelier
often note how some people say they have friends that they have never met in real life, or cite
shows like Catfish where people fall in love with others over the internet, but the person they
thought they were talking to is not actually who they were talking to. Though some may think
technology is making us lonelier, in actuality it bring us closer together. The internet is amazing. It
connects people all around the world. A few summers ago I went to camp in New Hampshire and
met people from around the country and around the world. At camp I became friends with a guy
named Vicente. Vincente lives in Spain. We became close friends at camp. When camp was over
we were not disappointed because when we made it back home we connected via Facebook. From
there we exchanged Gamertags and where playing videogames together while

Analysis Of Snow White And The Seven Drawfs
The film of Snow White and the Seven Drawfs (1938) is directed by David Hand (supervising) an
animated musical fantasy that film produced by Walt Disney Productions and originally released
by RKO Radio Pictures. The film shows the audience how heroism is the major theme because
there are good individuals (i.e. the seven dwarfs, the forest animal and the prince) around whom we
can count on to do the right thing even when we are in trouble. Surprisingly, the film story is
slightly told differently from the original story written by the Grimm brothers. In effect, Disney
removes scenes such as [a mother] eating the lungs and liver of her supposedly dead daughter
because that the animated film is addressed to young children(Davis, 2009). Not mention, young
children would not understand why a mother would want to kill her own daughter out of jealousy.
The movie Snow White and the Seven Drawfs has many themes but heroism is the main focus in
this paper. In short, heroism is established through costumes, acting style, and lighting.
Heroes are dressed in costumes. This is shown in The Evil Queen s Death scene in which the
animal sense danger and after attempting to drive [the Witch] away, rush to the mine to fetch the
dwarfs, where they try to warn them.nWhen Sleepy suggests that the Queen has found Snow
White, the dwarfs rush home to find that the Witch has succeeded in poisoning the princess and it
s about to leave. The dwarfs chase the Witch into the mountains and she reaches the cliff. [The
Witch] attempts to crush the dwarfs with a boulder nut a flash of lightning causes her to fall from
the cliff and be crushed by the boulder herself (The Disney Wiki). The seven dwarfs costumes are
different colored stocking caps, tunic, leggings with a black belt with a rectangular outlined buckle,
and medieval style shoes.
After, the handsome Prince arrives in a custom wearing a red cape, a blue tunic over a white shirt
with gray pants, a dagger sheathed at his left hip and boots to kiss Snow White to break the spell
of the Sleeping Death. The heroism theme is established in costumes to become the best version of
yourself and approachable to those in need.
The heroism theme comes through the acting style in Snow White

Business Law Case Study
Business Law Case Study In the case presented, Biff Smith, the Chief of Police of the local
department ordered a set of bicycles off of a local storeowner, Dirk Right. This was no simple
order though, in fact Biff intended on starting a bike patrol unit within the local department. Biff
went to Dirks Bicycle shop to place an order. The order was for five mountain bikes to be used
for patrol so they had to be custom made in order to sport the police decals. Biff was very
familiar with the Schwinn bicycle company so he asked Dirk to order him five top of the line
bikes at the best price . This simple statement implied that Biff not only wanted the bikes but he
intended on paying for them as well. So soon after Dirk accepted the deal... Show more content on

Therefore Dirks specially ordered custom bikes for the police department upon the request from
Biff are considered specially made. The custom bikes were a special order because they
contained unique decals displaying POLICE . Therefore Dirk can enforce the oral contract
against Biff despite the price being an excess of $500, (under Revised article 2). Analyzing the
case with all elements in mind, we concluded that a contract was in fact created. Dirk, who is
pursuing Biff in court, will put up a case due to the oral contract that was indeed made. In this
case there is no need for a written contract because Biff verbally agreed to buy five Schwinn
custom police mountain bikes specially ordered by Dirk. For this non resellable goods
exception to apply, the seller, Dirk, must have made a substantial beginning in manufacturing
the goods. To show this is true, Dirk went out of his way to create an order for Biff that was
special for the Police department, and by doing so, Dirk cannot return/resell the bikes, and he is
at a loss of $17,500. The most important factor working in Dirks favor is the letter he received
from the local PBA. The end of the letter had a hand written signature thanking Dirk for ordering
the bikes. This is hard evidence that a deal was made because the note brings up the agreement for
the bikes in writing and is signed by the second party, Biff. Dirk has enough evidence to bring Biff

Importance Of Personal Goals In Life
Since I was young, I knew exactly what I wanted to do in life, to be successful and happy. My
whole life, I have been surrounded by prosperous family members and family friends. Growing
up around these people, I came to acknowledge that they had a sense of stability and happiness
about them because they got to get up every morning and go to a job they love. However, what I
admired most is their success did not come easy, they worked hard to become the respected
people they are today. This assisted me in adapting three strong core values: personal growth,
entrepreneurship, and respect. Although I grew up with a successful family, I learned that
success does not come easy. Nowadays, people are led to believe they do not have to exert any
effort to become successful, and they could just lean on their family s prosperity. My family was
raised in the middle to upper class, but they were all parented to know they had to earn it
themselves and that they had to work for what they want; they couldn t turn to their family for
assistance. Therefore, I was also raised with this view. This developed my value of personal growth.
One of my goals in life is to earn my Doctor of Veterinary Medicineand my Master of Business
Administration. I strive to achieve these, knowing that the process will be challenging. After
graduating veterinary school with my Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, I plan to become a vet. After
approximately 10 years, I plan to go to Business school and earn my Master

Philip The Fortunate Was A Very Good French King
Philip VI the Fortunate
Andrew Miller
10th History
12 27 16
Introduction
I think Philip the Fortunate was a very good French King. He was known for being the first
French king of the Valois dynasty. His reign saw the beginning of the Hundred Years War and the
arrival of the Black Death.
Body
In May of 1328, Philip of Valois became King Philip VI of France. In August of that year, the count
of Flanders appealed to Philip for help in putting down a revolt. The king responded by sending his
knights to slaughter thousands at the Battle of Cassel. Not long after that, Robert of Artois, who
had helped Philip get the crown, claimed the countship of Artois; but a royal candidate did so, as
well. Philip instituted judicial proceedings against Robert, turning his one time supporter into a
bitter enemy.
It wasn t until 1334 that trouble began with England. Edward III, who didn t particularly like
paying homage to Philip for his holdings in France, decided to flout Philip s interpretation of
Salic Law and lay claim to the French crown through his mother s line. (Edward was most likely
spurred on in his animosity toward Philip by Robert of Artois.) In 1337 Edward landed on French
soil, and what would later be known as Hundred Years War began.
In order to wage war Philip had to raise taxes, and in order to raise taxes he had to make
concessions to the nobility, the clergy, and the bourgeoisie. This resulted in the rise of the estates
and the beginning of a reform movement in

What Are The Similarities Between Harry Potter And The...
Harry Potter and the Phallus Fallacy
An exploration of Freudian and Lacanian Phallus Theory
The phallus has long been represented as a powerful symbol time and time again in culture, pop
culture, society and media. Closely linked to the male biological penis, it is representative of
power as well as a symbol of control and strength. Even popular children s literature revolves
around the phallus in an unconscious way. The phallus works in several ways in these cases;
characters often posses objects representative of the phallus which yield power such as the use of
wands, and many story lines follow characters attempting to seize power and trying to maintain that
power with the fear of power loss constantly looming over them. ... Show more content on

A symbolic version of a phallus, such as a wand, sword or cane, is constructed to represent male
generative powers. The phallus in psychoanalytic theory is represented as the supreme symbol of
masculine power and of feminine lack (Rine 14 15). Feminist theorists constructed the term
phallocentrism in order to denote the pervasive privileging of the masculine within the current
system of signification. (Rine 22 26). Freud did not make a distinction between the penis, as a
biological bodily organ, and the phallus as a signifier of sexual difference. Freud s theory of
psychoanalysis argues that whilst men posses a penis, no one can posses a symbolic phallus
(Homer 56). Lacan, in the essay The Signification of the Phallus argues that the difference
between having and being the phallus is that men are positioned as men as long as they are seen
to have the phallus, whereas women, not having a phallus, are seen to be the phallus (Lacan
1309). To Lacan, the phallus symbolizes both the penis and the clitoris as a signifier but the
phallus is constructed to be a signifier of power and is distinguished between the sexes in terms of
lack (Lacan 1306, Rine 14). Lacan s distinction between the penis and the

The School That I Would Give Temple University Essay
I have attended only three different schools before NECC. The school that I thought was by far
the most dynamic and helped me retain information better was Temple University. I would give
Temple University an A, because I was exposed to several different teaching styles, which made
the classes much more memorable. I remember sitting in my Language in Society Class thinking
Why are we taking a group quiz? He might as well just hand out the A s. But it was much deeper
than that. I had to learn how to balance speaking and listening for group participation, in addition
to time management. It wasn t like a group project, because we were just working together for one
timed class period instead of having days of preparation. These were skills that I came to realize
were much more important outside of school. I ve noticed a lot at work, when we have to make a
timed decision especially, that people would dominate conversations and leave people s opinions
out. Now, I actually want to hear from people who are quieter as opposed to just thinking that they
agree with whatever is being said. I had several different teachers that would challenge the structure
of a normal classroom.
Being a Linguistics/Speech Pathology major at Temple University meant a lot of my classes
were voice and sound related. I can t begin to describe the weird sounds and phrases we had to
produce with our mouths. Learning this way really helped because learning where my alveolar

Essay on Isolation in Sherwood Anderson s Winesburg, Ohio
Isolation in Winesburg, Ohio
Winesburg, Ohio is a story of lost or nonexistent connections with other human beings. Every
character throughout the text has a want, a need, to connect with someone or something. Each
individual faces a life of isolation. In most cases the solitary nature of their lives is self inflicted.
This self punishment seems to be the outcome of a deeply personal hatred towards the characters
perceived differences with the rest of the Winesburg population. This is the fact that elevates
Winesburg, Ohio above the rest. It is the fact that every man hides a part of himself from the eyes
of others.
The hunger was earliest demonstrated in the short story Hands. In this episode the ... Show more

Each character seems to deteriorate into a simply physical being with no with no living soul left.
This is best stated in the words of Irving Howe. He wrote, The grotesques rot because they are
unused, their energies deprived of outlet, and their instincts curdled in isolation (Howe). This rotting
effect is evident in several other characters; however, it can be most strongly noticed within
Elizabeth Willard.
Elizabeth Willard, the mother of George Willard, was a wild girl with many dreams. One of her
most prevalent was to become a great actress, and work in a traveling company much like those
that visited and passed through Winesburg. Upon marrying Tom Willard, Elizabeth s world
changed drastically. It seemed her fiery spirit had been broken. No longer did she chase her
dreams. They were traded instead to become a maid of sorts to her inherited business. Within her
life there was but one joy left and that was Elizabeth s only son, George. Much like his mother
was, George is a dreamer. He aspired to become a writer rather than the financial success his
father pushes him to be. This was Elizabeth s single hope for her son. Yet in her own eyes she
was a failure, a broken old woman, and could not find the strength to express these strong feelings
to her son. It was the self perceived defeat that prevented Elizabeth from speaking. Like Wing
Biddlebaum and the remaining group of outcasts she hid herself away. In essence,

A Brief Note On Concentration And Surface Water
Estimating Bifenthrin Concentration in Surface water in Urban Sacramento.
Introduction
Pyrethroid insecticides have replaced organophosphates (OP) insecticides, such as, diazinon and
chlorpyrifos for structural pest control and landscape maintenance in most urban environments in
the United States in recent times. Pyrethroids are manufactured derivatives of pyrethrins, which are
natural insecticides that are produced by certain species of chrysanthemum. These insecticides are
neurotoxins and focus on the central nervous system of insects , thereby, making it exceptionally
viable in pest control. These chemicals are broadly utilized by professional applicators to keep
pests out of structures either as landscape application, or as perimeter treatments. Other than
professional applications which are documented, pyrethroids are also incorporated in many pest
control products that are designed for homeowners and available at retail stores, however the
utilization of these items are not all around reported documented (Moran, 2006). The combination
of these uses (professionals and homeowners) aids in the increase presence of pyrethroids on urban
landscape and structures which are later washed off to urban creeks. The most commonly suspected
modes of transport of pesticide residues from urban application sites to downstream pesticide
contamination is by means of irrigation (dry) or runoff (rain).
In spite of the fact that pyrethroid insecticides are present in a wide variety of

King Lear Ego
King Lear s egotistical personality gets in the way of countless important decisions and
inevitably leads to his own suffering. After deciding to divide his kingdom amongst his
daughters and live out his life in peace, Lear chooses to base the amount of land given to each
daughter off how must they love him. Or perhaps, how much they say they love him. Goneril
and Regan cajole the King, using flattery and professing they love him beyond all manner
(I.I.60). This warms the King s heart, but when Cordelia, his favourite daughter, cannot find a
way to put her love for her father into words, Lear s ego feels bruised and he takes offence. This
decision is foolish as Lear cannot see that Cordelia is unconditionally loyal to the King and that

Mandatory Rotation Of Registered Public Accounting Firms
The mandatory audit partner rotation was also one of the aspect targeted by SOX and requires
that every lead partner or reviewing partner must be rotated every five years in order to bring a
fresh look to each engagement. A particular aspect of all this rotations is the possibility to impose
mandatory rotation of registered public accounting firms. The SOX requested to the Comptroller
General of the United States to conduct a study addressing this issue and the implications of this
requirements. Although the PCAOB has expressed the importance of having some type of rotation
in the registered CPA firms and in 2011 issued a concept release proposing mandatory auditfirm
rotation, some congressman like Republican Robert Hurt have taken steps in order to avoid this
type of regulations and the Audit Integrity and Job Protection Act was passed by the House of
Representatives in 2013. These act prohibit the mandatory rotation of registered CPA firms arguing
this decision correspond to the audit committee and the shareholders of the corporation and no to
regulators. In my opinion, the mandatory registered CPA firm rotation is an unnecessary burden to
impose to companies, especially small corporations, that would be force to be changing constantly
and without any justification of CPA firm. The current audit partner rotation in CPA firms grant that
each partner is liable for the work performed by him and his team which ensures the transparency
and reliability of the audit they do.

He explains the fall and collapse of the Anasazi and their Neighbors. Jared Diamond explains that
the Anasazi experienced hostile neighbors, which means trade between the two civilizations was
cut off by a series of conflicts or just a conflict. The Anasazi also experienced environmental
problems and dramatic climate change. Which ruined their crops and made an even higher
demand for water. These are the reasons why the Anasazi collapsed. Another one of Jared
Diamonds most explored and passionate topics is the demise of the Maya. The Mayan were once a
great civilization in modern day Mexico. But with many problems facing the once great civilization
started to deteriorate. The Mayan civilization started to face many many environmental damage,
dramatic climate change, and hostile neighbors that cut off trade routes and exchange of goods

Education Is The Key To A Better, Developed And Civilized...
Education has been told to us as the key to a better, developed and civilized society. With proper
education, there can be no limits to an individual s achievements in life; but on the other hand, lack
of access to education is a major building block to a primitive, backward and uncivilized society. A
bad educationsystem designed not for learning but only to keep children who can not afford
private education in schools is a recipe for oppression as it widens the gap between socioeconomic
status, gender and age. It trains people to be a part of a capitalistic and oppressive society by
reinforcing classism, racism and sexism (Lipsitz, Lozenski, Ford, 2014).
A better society is defined by its quality of education and health standards. It has been notice that
where there the education system is oppressive or oppressed, the health sector follows suit. One
cannot go through an oppressive education system and expect the opposite when it comes to health
care provisions. Therefore the system of education has a direct impact on the health care system of
a society, the rich who benefit from the system of education also benefit from health care system.
It comes into play when I look at the system of education that makes the rich white majority
acquire better education services at the expense of their black counterparts or people with color in
the society (Giroux, 2017).
A system that chooses controlled base on color and social standing in the society has contributed to

My Papas Waltz By Theodore Roethke
My Papa s Waltz by Theodore Roethke (380), was a great poem. When I first read the poem, I
pictured it as a young boy describing his father s abusive and drunken ways. And the hardship the
young boy dealt with living in his home. Despite the fact, what the young boy was dealing with, he
still seemed to adore his father. The motherseemed to be upset with the father as he was drunk
dancing with their child. However, I read it a few times more and I seemed to understand it in a
different point of view. I understood it as, the bond that a child and father had. All though many
readers do interpret words in different ways, because of the use of connotation and tone of the
poem, but the tone of the story is a child describing the lovehe has for... Show more content on

They could have been dancing fast and it cased the boy to get dizzy. In the next stanza (380) it
states, we romped until the pans/ slide of the kitchen shelf. Some will see as the father was too
drunk to dance and he fell over knocking the pans off the shelf. I understood it as a father and
son playing around in the kitchen which means they seemed contentment and accidentally
knocking down the pans the mother just cleaned. Then the mother seemed to be upset as they
knocked them down. In the third stanza (380) it says, the hand that held my wrist/ every step
you missed my right ear scraped a buckle this can be interpreted as the father was abusive,
because he was holding the young boy by his wrist instead of his hands. It seemed that the father
was trying to hit him with a belt and missed and instead it his ear. On the other hand, I seen it as
the child was being held with love and because of the dance and the different heights of the father
and son he had to hold him by the wrist, the young boy height would lead to the reason why his
ear will scrap on the father s belt when he missed a

2. Clustering Technique: Sensor systems are profoundly disseminated systems of little, lightweight
remote hubs, conveyed in several thousands to screen the earth or framework by the estimation of
physical parameters, for example, temperature, weight, or relative stickiness. Building sensors have
been made conceivable by the late advances in smaller scale electromechanical frameworks
(MEMS) innovation. Group is a procedure to join numerous systems. Remote systems are

3. Assaults in WSN: Wireless systems are helpless to security assaults because of the show way of
the correspondence standard. Besides, remote sensor systems have an additional weakness since
hubs are every now and again set in a forceful or risky environment where they are not really
sheltered. Assaults on WSNs can be ordered from two distinctive levels of perspectives: Attack
against security components. Assault against fundamental components (like steering instruments).
The assaults could be arranged on the preparation of the root of the assaults i.e. Inside or External,
and on the conduct of the assault i.e. Detached or Active assault. This grouping is critical in light of
the fact that the aggressor can misuse the system either as inner, outer or/and also dynamic or latent
assault against the system.
A. Inward/External Attack External aggressors are in a general sense outside the systems who
need to access the system and once they access the system they begin sending false parcels,
dissent of administration with a specific end goal to upset the execution of the entire system. The
way of the assault is like the wired system assaults. As the name derives, interior assault is
available in the system inside. Here, the assailant needs normal access to the system and in addition

Nelson Mandel Segregation In South Africa
Nelson Mandela was a very important part in the success of African Americans gaining their own
rights. I believe if it wasn t for him there still could be segregation in South Africa. He risked his
life to gain rights, he protested in many peaceful ways and was thrown in jail for twenty seven
years. Nelson Mandela is one of the most important leaders of the twentieth century. He changed the
world for many people living in South Africaand he really made a difference in the society of
South Africa. He helped make it an equal and non segregated country and he gave people the

Nelson grew up farming, herding cattle, and attending a christian elementary school while being
apart of an african tribe (Nelson Mandela 1). Mandela grew up around tribal chiefs and elders,
that helped him understand african self government and heritage better (Tyle 1). Nelsons tribe
name was Rolihlahla but was changed to Nelson by a teacher at the school he attended (Nelson
Mandela 1). Rolihlahla translates to one who brings trouble upon himself, which describes the
journey through fighting for his rights his whole life (Nelson Mandela 1). When Nelson grew
older he renounced his hereditary right to the tribal chiefdom and he entered college hoping to
graduate with a law degree. He attended the University college of Fort Hare which he was
expelled from in 1940 for leading a student strike and Witwatersrand University. He graduated
and received his law degree in 1942 from the University of South Africa (Nelson Mandela 1).
Nelson married Evelyn Ntoko Mase in 1944 and had four children which were Thembekile,
Makaziwe, Makgatho and another Makaziwe Mandela (Nelson Mandela 1). There is only one
of them alive today and there is two of the children with the same name because the first one died
at the age of nine months. So they decided to name the younger sister after her. Thembekile died
in a car accident at a relatively young age and Makgatho died at the age of 54 from AIDS (Nelson

Early Psychosis Intervention ( Epi ) Program Essay
Once hospitalized, SC was enrolled in the Early Psychosis Intervention (EPI) Program. This pilot
provides timely treatment for individuals under 25 who are newly diagnosed, or have untreated
psychosis (Vancouver Coastal Health, 2016). SC met these criteria. EPI is based on the idea that if
psychosis is recognized and treated early, interventions can limit the potential for ongoing negative
consequences (BC Early PsychosisIntervention Program, 2016). Although this was SC s fourth
hospitalization, this was her first time on the EPI. By not being treated effectively on her first
admission, her chances of success were reduced. A substantial barrier for EPI is a client s delay, or
refusal to access services (BC SchizophreniaSociety, 2012). SC had not been ready to accept
treatment during previous admissions. Lappin et al. (2016) also argue that there needs to be
available services specifically for young adults early in their illness that also have particular
interventions for drug related psychosis. This addictions component is not specifically addressed in
the current EPI model. However, it specifically targets young adults.
As well as additional monitoring of EPI, SC was being stabilized through medications. Her
pharmaceutical interventions included suboxone to treat substance dependence, gabapentin as a
mood stabilizer, olanzepine for psychosis and zopiclone for insomnia (Vallerand, Sanoski, Deglin,
2015). However, only offering abstinence rather than a harm

The Significance of Philosophical Scepticism Essays
The Significance of Philosophical Scepticism
In answer to the question What can we know? anyone who gives a pessimistic answer is labelled a
sceptic. Scepticism is associated with incredulity. A sceptic is someone who questions things
(particularly received opinions) and also practices suspension of judgement. This questioning
outlook has been labelled by some as practical scepticism. However, philosophical scepticism
involves more than this. Its essential element is a general view about human knowledge. In the
broadest terms, philosophical scepticism holds, or at least finds irrefutable, the view that
knowledge is impossible.
There are two features of philosophical scepticism which differentiate it from everyday sceptical ...
Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The strength and scope of philosophical scepticism are connected with the simplicity and
intuitiveness of sceptical arguments, which are radical and general because they exploit only lowest
common denominator features of knowledge.
Another characteristic of philosophical scepticism is that it offers initially plausible arguments for
its sceptical conclusion. They are plausible in that not only do they display no obvious logical
flaws, they seem to involve only the simplest and most mundane considerations. They appear to be
highly intuitive. This apparent intuitiveness is crucial to scepticism being such an intractable
problem. If sceptical arguments were obviously dependent on controversial or implausible
theoretical ideas, scepticism would not be a surprising verdict on our aspirations to knowledge but
simply a consequence of some regrettable, theoretical missteps. This is in fact what makes sceptical
arguments philosophically interesting. They present us with a line of reasoning that we ourselves
find intuitively plausible, but which leads to a conclusion that we find absolutely implausible. The
task then, for those epistemologists who think that scepticism is based on a mistake, is to identify
and explain the mistake.
The implication of philosophical scepticism is that, rationally speaking, we can believe anything or
nothing. This highlights the huge gulf between philosophical scepticism and ordinary

Social Penetration Theory Is Defined As The Process Of...
According to Irwin Altman and Dalmas Taylor, Social Penetration Theory is defined as the process
of bonding that moves a relationship from superficial to more intimate. The theory can be
perceived as a game plan for people, especially in a relationship. This can give you guidance on how
to interact with individuals in order to establish a stable, and developing relationship through
interpersonal communication. For example, when you encounter someone whom you ve never met
before, you may ask some questions to learn a little bit about this person. We tend to exchange
information back and forth by asking people questions. Essentially, this is what social penetration
theory does. It looks at how we exchange and share information with people that we have never met
before and how we self disclose. Self disclosure can be separated into the theories three main
concepts: depth, breadth, and reciprocity. These important concepts of Social Penetration Theory
were clearly shown when I witnessed an unusual conversation between my roommate, Maddy and a
young man named Nick. A typical conversation, turned into an extremely uncomfortable situation
for all of us. Something we definitely did not expect.
On Thursday after class, my roommates Mckenna, Maddy and I were sitting at the cafeteria
tables. All of us were deep into our laptops, and reading assignments, when suddenly a young man

Introduction
This situation analysis is based on the Landscapes r us business. In this report we will cover the
following, assessment of the uncontrollable environment (PESTL forces), a SWOT analysis, the
target market and a customer and client analysis,
Uncontrollable environment, PESTL
Political forces
Landscapes r us, are faced by several political forces that may influence the amount of work and
the way business will operate. There is a trend of new suburbs being divided into smaller blocks
then older suburbs. In the 1950 s the average block size was 810sqm 910 sq m, and block
divided in 2012 average between 200 350 sq m (MacroBusiness, 2014)(Hall, 2011). Therefore,
each successful tender in new suburbs isn t as profitable as before, because there is less work
required on each block. Because there are a greater number of blocks it creates a large number of
opportunities to win quotes. When there are more quotes in an area it will attract more businesses
competition.
Economic forces
The announcement of the current federal budget by the Abbot government is driving the message
of cutting Australia s debt. There are threats of lots of job cuts especially in Canberra where the
Public service is a major employer with n unemployment rate of 6.4% (Rba.gov.au, 2014). In turn
this means people have less disposable income to be spent on landscaping work. As landscaping is a

How Lyrics Perpetuates Male Dominance Against Female
Many of us have heard the famous single Love The Way You Lie which aroused a lot of
controversy when it was released two years ago. Performed by famous American rapper Eminem
and singer Rihanna. The song attempts to portray domestic violence and abusive relationship. The
position of male and female in a relationship and their social interaction are always the hot topic of
contemporary music. In this paper I would like to discuss how this song perpetuates male
dominance against female through four aspects in gender role socialization, including emotion,
action, sex and social interaction. Also I would argue about the ... Show more content on

dominance at most time. Such phenomenon could be found more commonly in Asian culture as
well. In some Asian countries it would be a huge shame for males if they could not make enough
money to raise the entire family and fulfill the wives expenses. Females choose to live as
housewives and rely on the males thus empower the males to be dominance. In conclusion, the song
exhibits the males dominance against females from four perspectives: emotion, action, sex and
social interaction. Also the song portrays that in some situations females choose to be dominated by

And, like, ever since you fell for your Winter Ball date a couple weeks ago, this song has been
screaming from every open locker vent and car radio. It s like being a kid again, but also, like,
becoming an adult too.
Do you really want a small taste of adulthood though? Go to any liberal arts college with a large
sized quad on a warm autumn day. Target the frat boy wearing socks with sandals and carrying
an acoustic guitar. Join the slowly forming circle of kids with no coordination trying to bob
along and listen closely. Yes, between covers of Wagon Wheel , any John Mayer single, and
Santeria , this young troubadour s secret weapon is First Day of My Life . This song has played
the our song role to so many past, doomed relationships now, it has jumped into the lexicon of

Analysis Of The Term Captains Of Industry
Thomas Carlyle coined the term Captains of Industry in his 1843 book Past and Present to describe
forerunners in business which had accumulated vast personal fortunes and contributed positively to
the country through some act. Amidst the second industrial revolution in America, names such as
Vanderbilt (Rail), Carnegie (Steel), Rockefeller (Oil), Morgan (Electricity/Finance), and of course
Henry Ford(Automobile) are often lionized for their achievements in building America into a
modern day power. On the contrary, many of these same figures are also considered Robber Barons;
industrialists that routinely cheat investors and consumers, monopolizing activities and perverting
government officials by any means for the exploitation of profit. All that is, but Henry Ford.
Indeed, damaging arguments could be made against the former Edison Illuminating Company
machinist and Ford Motor Company founder, born July 30th, 1863. Religious activists could call
Ford s anti Semitic comments through his ownership of The Dearborn Independent as the fuel to
Hitler s Final Solution. Some allege, although Ford deserves credit for his factories assistance in
America s armament of the Allies in World War II, but he also helped Ford subsidiaries re tool
their assembly lines for the Nazi war efforts in Germany as well. Environmentalists have a strong
claim that Ford s carbon footprint contributions are the root cause of the world s current climate
condition. And it is doubtful Ford s son

The Rise Of Crime And Crime
Opposing to widely held outlooks for example, both victimisation and authorised crime
presented specifically sharp drops from 2007 to 2009, when being without a job rates ascended.
Robbery, burglary, and household theft oppressions had been dropping by a rate of about 4% per
year from 1993 2006, but fell by an ordinary of 6 to 7% per year for the duration of the Great
Recession. This is not for the reason that crimeis distinct to economic situations, but for the reason
that crime is correlated to so many other things. Criminologists Richard Rosenfeld and Robert
Fornango propose that consumer confidence and the view of economic poverty may have an
explanation for as much as one third of the topical decrease in robbery and property crime. On the
other hand, despite the fact that economic recessions and consumer sentiment are in the cards to
play some character, they cannot account for the extensive and firm drops, crime rates have been
falling for twenty years. In addition for this motive, most criminologists feature only an
insignificant portion of the crime drop to economic conditions, (Richard Rosenfeld, 2007).
Crime look as if it is principally a young man s game. For many wrongdoings committed, crime
and custodies top in the late teen years and early twenties, decreasing rapidly thereafter. For the
period of the 1960s and 1970s, the big sum of teens and young adults in the Baby Boom regiment
furthermore increased crime rates, (Volker Roelcke, 2004). Conferring to a

The Effects Of Classroom Talk On The Classroom
In teaching, a large proportion of time is spent in talking and listening. As the major factor in a
classroom it should become the main process by which a pupil learns. After all it is the primary
method that humans use to communicate. It leads me to ask how important is it? And does what
is talked about in lessons equate to the quality of learning that is happening in the classroom. On
the basis of these questions, Daniels (2001 cited in Alexander, 2004:8) argues that classroom talk
not only mediates teaching and learning but the wider culture. Alexander (2004:9) also indicates
that talk is necessary for the building of the brain itself as a physical organism and thereby
expanding its power .
Because talking is not recorded in a book unlike writing, teachers may tend to be less reflective on
what is said rather than what is written. For instance, Alexander (2004:6) points out that it is
always written work that is regarded as real school work and as the most reliable medium for
measuring pupil s learning . Barnes (1992:124) also implies that learning is not simply adding bits
of information to the previous knowledge. Rather, most important learning is a matter of working
on understanding , which can be achieved through talk (ibid).
In an effort to reveal the importance of classroom talk in student learning and their interrelation, I
aim to discuss whether student learning is closely linked to the quality of classroom talk through
the foundation subjects of science

Summary Of Happiness In The Garden Of Epicurus
In an ancient Greek proverb that goes as follows Everything in Moderation the concept of
balancing the aspects of one s life is championed. Epicurus offers an almost entirely contradictory
life philosophy with serene hedonism as is explored in the article Happiness in the Garden of
Epicurus. Serene Hedonismoffers the perspective that the only truly valuable thing in life is that of
pleasure while this philosophy initially may sound appealing it lacks any development in a
meaningful purpose for an individual other than maximizing pleasures of the senses. The largest
counter to this argument exists in the question on whether or not one would trade there life with
that of a clam who is experiencing constant euphoria, and through this argument

The Curriculum Starting From Early Education
If I had to choose any of the six educational philosophies I would choose Essentialism. I believe
that all individuals should be taught the same curriculum starting from early education in order to
success in our society. According to (Gutek 2013), genuine education involves learning basic skills,
that are needed to function effectively in civilized society. Human Nature Aspects According to
(Kronfeldner, M 2014) essentialist hypothesizes, that there exists some characteristic unique to and
shared by all members of Homo sapiens which explains why they are the way they are. All humans
are inherited with the same basic characteristic that makes us all unique. (Willis J 2008), believes
that there are some features common to all human beings that is, independent of individual, cultural
and historical factors that are conducive to a good life and human flourishing. With that being said,
there is a general agreement that all humans share the same basic human nature characteristics.
Personal Reaction All humans have the basic desire to live a good, flourishing life which may
pertains to health, money or love. I believe our human nature would do anything to pursue these
common beliefs. Humans are eager to learn only if it meets their basic human nature needs.
Furthermore, I believe our society shape our independent thinking; what we hope for in our future
will shape our basic human nature. The School Purpose The purpose of schools is to educate every
student regardless of

The Importance Of Security In War
The Jaish al Mahdi understood and exploited U.S. public opinion. This incident demonstrated that
adversaries can achieve success by conducting influence operations. China identifies cyberspace as
a key domain to project power and dominance. Chinese military strategists believe that information
operations are directly linked to success or defeat in war and priority should be given to launching
preemptive attacks. In 2005, China infiltrated numerous secure government systems and
successfully retrieved more than ten terabytes of data. The following year, China attacked a total of
forty nine U.S. companies and government agencies. A number of those companies were involved
in the production of the F 35 and other classified military weapons.... Show more content on

The principles within the strategy can be linked to information as an instrument of national power.
However, existing U.S. strategies have three shortfalls: 1) scope (addressing all dimensions in the
information environment), 2) deterrence (defining acts of war), and 3) whole of nation approach.
The first shortfall is that the scope must be broader. U.S. strategies sufficiently address threats to the
physical and informational dimensions within the information environment. However, the U.S.
lacks a strategy that identifies challenges and threats in the cognitive dimension within the
information environment. Adversaries, such as ISIS, are effectively utilizing influence campaigns
to advance their agenda by manipulation of the values, perceptions, and beliefs of the U.S. public
and other target audiences. Information, or misinformation, is a primary means to shape global
opinions. The U.S. continues to yield the initiative in influence operations and function in a
reactionary capacity. Strategic communication messaging to enhance U.S. credibility and
legitimacy have been slow and at times ineffective. The behavior data generated through social
media has enabled researchers to understand groups, globally making it easier to spread and

Social Contract Theory On The Origin Of State
SOCIAL CONTRACT THEORY
1. INTRODUCTION:
The social contract theory is one of the oldest theories on the origin of state. This theory came into
existence as a reaction against the divine origin theory. The term social is something which is
connected with the society, while contract means an agreement between two or more people. Thus
a term of political theory, social contract implies an agreement that makes society possible .this
theory holds that the state is the voluntary and deliberate agreement on the part of the people
those who emerged from the state of nature, in order to form a state based on a contract between
the people and the sovereign and is not made by the god and thus implies that the state is a
man`s deliberate creation to serve his needs. The core idea behind this theory is an assumption
that there was a period in human history, when there was no state at all and no political law
existed. The idea that the power to the ruler is given based on some kind of agreement between
him and his subjects is quite old. The social contract theory envisages a state of nature where
there were no organised government and rulers. There were no man made laws and no authority
to govern the people .the state of nature was prepolitical the idea of social contract divides the
state into two phases, i.e. one is the state of nature which was the life of the people before the state
came into existence and second is the creation of the state as a result of the contract entered

The History Of The United States And Forever Changed The...
Erastus Deaf Smith I chose to write this essay on a famous deaf person that completely changed
the history of the United States and forever changed the history of the state of Texas. This Deaf
man could moreover be singly part of the only reason the Texans do not speak fluent Spanish as
their first language that was born in the early part of 18th century. The reason I chose this
individual is because of my intrigue of American history, moreover, through my research I found
that he introduced a fine stock of Muley (meaning hornless) cattle from Louisiana to the San
Antonio area, where the Longhorn breed was previously popular. My intent of this paper is to
bring the history of an extraordinary Deaf man to light with his trials and triumphs. Erastus Deaf
Smith was born April 19th,1787 In New York. From his birth or a childhood illness, Deaf Smith
experienced a partial hearing loss. It is believed that his birth was breech and from that he suffered
a lifetime of health issues and fragility. With his health problems among them he suffered was
severe lung problems most likely tuberculosis. Smith moved to Mississippi in 1817 and then to
Texasin 1821. During the time of his move to Mississippi and permanency in the state of Texas, his
health improved most likely from the change in the climates. Smith also had the belief that eating
skunk was a reason for his health improvement. After Smith had settled into New Dewitt Colony
near Gonzalez, Texas. He married Mexican

Fatty Liver Disease Case Study
Methods: Four different clinical trials were selected for this paper. First trial focuses on the
management of fatty liver disease with vitamin E and C combined compared to usrodeoxycholic
acid treatment. Second trial focuses on only vitamin E, pioglitazone, or placebo on NAFLD
patients. Third trials focuses on the treatment of nonalcoholic steatohepatitis with vitamin E and
vitamin C combined. Final trial focuses on pioglitazone, vitamin E, or placebo for nonalcoholic
steatohepatitis, similar to the second trial. First trial had patients who were randomly prescribed
either vitamin E plus vitamin C (500 mg/day) or ursodeoxycholic acid (10 mg/kg/day). After a
period of six months, there was no significant change in BMI before and after the... Show more

Vitamin E (300 mg/day) and vitamin C (300 mg/day) were given to each patient orally for 12
months. Half of the patients had a liver biopsy done on them before and after the trial treatment.
The findings of this trial concluded that using both vitamin E and vitamin C combined can help
patients with NASH by minimizing the damage from oxidative stress, significantly improving
fibrosis, and actually slowing down the process that eventually leads to cirrhosis. When vitamin E
is administered along with vitamin C, the combination of both can actively fight against the
oxidative stress in the liver. In this study, serum alanine aminotransferase levels improved, along
with a decrease in serum thioredoxin, high sensitivity C reactive protein, and 8
hydroxydeoxyguanosine levels. This trial suggests that the combination of vitamin C and E should
be investigated further to be able to take advantage of the full benefits of vitamin E against
nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (11). Last trial on this research was similar to the second trial
discussed. This trial focused only on adults without diabetes and without a developed case of
cirrhosis. The reason these patients were excluded was due to the fact that it is unclear whether
these patients would have the same response to the therapy being offered as patients without these
conditions. The results on this trial were slightly different than the second trial discussed. In this
trial, significant

Merlin s Character In The Legend Of Geoffrey Merlin And...
Merlin is considered one of the most strongest sorcerer that lives Camelot. He is Arthur s adviser,
as well as a prophet and sorcerer. Merlin s powers were so powerful that other wizards and
sorcerers looked up to him as a leader. His role in the Arthurian legend is to protect and serve the
lands of Camelot. The Life of Merlingave him the qualities of an humble man, who took pleasure
in loneliness. The source provided descriptive details of Merlin s actions and how they affected
others in relations to his selfishness. In the narrative, Monmouth wrote Merlin to be a man who
wanted nothing to do with anyone, except for himself. After the 1900 s, author of The Daughter
of Merlin took a different perspective and gave the character a child that shared the same
qualities. Gaster gave new meaning to Merlin s character that will be put in texts of the Arthurian
Legend. In the narratives, The Life of Merlin by Geoffrey Monmouth and The Daughter of
Merlin by Madison J Cawein, Merlin s character changes as different authors rewrite his character.
He changes from a sorcerer living on his own to a sorcerer who has a daughter with his same
abilities, because over a certain time period the authors wanted to evolve Merlin into more caring,
passionate character. For example, Monmouth provides Merlin s character with the sense of self
serving attitude. The author incorporates a battle, which Merlin s leads and succeeds with the
victory of the battle. In return of the victorious battle, the

Riordran Test Case
Riordan Information System Business Requirements
Over the last decade Riordan has expanded from a single hospital and pair of clinics to a health
network that includes more than a dozen hospitals, as many small clinics and four pharmacies.
Riordan s impressive growth has resulted from a combination of new expansion, partnerships and
buyouts and driven the company to become the dominant health care provider in the region.
Unfortunately, this rapid growth has led to a situation in which different network facilities have
different SOPs governing patient care, record keeping, billing and human resources and has begun
to affect the bottom line of the company as it attempts to consolidate the disparate practices into a
cohesive whole.

Patient records, pharmaceutical records, will each have a dedicated data mart while financial and
personnel records will share the third. Each data mart will backup to the data warehouse every
24 hours or as Riordan s IT department specifies. To minimize disruptions at individual facilities
should a data mart be temporarily cut off from the network active records are to be kept in local
servers will which upload any updates needed to each data mart on an hourly basis. In this way
should any given data mart become unavailable local facilities will still have access to active
records.
New applications will utilize off the shelf software components that have been customized per
Riordan s specifications and further messaged to ensure that each application will integrate
smoothly with all the others in order to create a single cohesive whole. Great effort will be made
to ensure that the data structures used in each are consistent in order to simplify the creation of
the enterprise s database. To help facilitate this, we will create an umbrella application that will
integrate each other system as a module. This umbrella application will be extendable as needed
and will act as a single launch point for the various systems utilized by Riordan. We will also be
working closely with Riordan s IT department to develop a bridge that will enable them to easily
port their existing databases into the new one automatically.

Plucking And Abraion
Glacial erosion occurs in primarily two ways and this is plucking and abrasion. Plucking happens
when meltwater penetrates the cracks and joints along the rock floor of the glacier than freezes.
When the freezing occurs, it expands and exert tremendous pressure that will pry the rocks loose
and this how sediment of all sizes becomes part of the glacial load. Abrasion occurs when iceand its
rock fragments moves over the bedrock they act like sandpaper smoothing and polishing the
surface below. All of the resulting pulverized rock is called rock flour. The rock flour is what
gives some glaciers that grayish hue. Glaciated Valleys, the most impressive examples is Yosemite
National Park, are made by glaciers moves down a valley that once had

Ones perception on a book may or may not be changed once...
Ones perception on a book may or may not be changed once they see the movie produced that is
based off of a book. While reading One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest by Ken Kesey I was able to
visualize how I believed the characters would be in real life. Unlike the book, the movie is
presented the way in which the producer views the characters taking away ones sense of
imagination. A major difference between the book and the film is the point of view in which the
story was told. The book is told in Chief s point of view and the movie is not. I noticed during the
movie there had been some scenes missing but they made sure to include the important ones. Some
of the significant ones being McMurphy s actions of choking NurseRatched. I believe... Show more

The scene in the book where the lifeguard at the pool who once was admitted to the ward tells
McMurphy that the nurses are the ones who decides how long one stays in the ward, and in the
movie Washington tells McMurphy that information. At one point of the book McMurphy and
Bromden are sent to the disturbed ward after getting into an altercation with the nurses when
McMurphy tried to stop them from forcing medication onto George in the shower who is
known to be extremely cautious of germs. Unlike the book the movie shows this scene as
McMurphy getting into a fight with the nurses after breaking the nurse s station window to get
Cheswick s cigarettes in order to calm him down. After Chief helps him, all three of them are
sent to the disturbed ward. Due to all of the changes in the movie compared to the book it was
hard to follow the movie at times. When certain scenes happened in the movie that didn t in the
book it confused me and when they brought in new characters or changed the way the characters
were portrayed made it difficult to relate the movie back to the book. I don t believe the film
changed my perception of McMurphy s Heroism because both in the book and film he played the
significant role of standing up to Nurse Ratched even though she was known to belittle all of the
patients. McMurphy continued to try and help the patients escape the ward before he thought about
himself leaving and that showed the type of character McMurphy was.

Solidarity Reflection
From this class, I have learned how South Asian Americans have been racialized and how they have
been treated differently compared to other marginalized people in the U.S. By studying the
narratives of South Asians and other minority groups, I gained the knowledge about racism,
colonialism, capitalism and imperialism and the government s politics strategies. Through the
learning histories, I developed my empathy with the struggles of immigrant, racial and minority
community and understood how to build solidarity with each other. I think the studying about the
history of different ethnic group, nation, and gender is important because it helps us to see violent
activities that we caused to another and it also reminds us to not do the same mistakes. I found
myself engaged to the struggles of race, class and gender according to the experiences of myself
and other people in my life. I have experienced the similar racial discriminationat work place where
some white people acted, as I am not good enough to be part of their community and treated me
with disrespect. I also feel the same in my country, where some Burmese people would not like to
hang out with people from darker skin color and lower class. I have heard the stories of my mom
in law who is from China, where women were treated differently versus men. They were not
allowed to study education and could not pursue their goals.

The Annunciation Explored through the Era of Italian...
The Annunciation is a Christian celebration of the iconic moment that the archangel Gabriel
announced to the Virgin Mary that she would conceive and become the mother to the Son of God,
Jesus. The story of the Annunciation derives chiefly from the biblical Gospel of Luke, and has been
portrayed abundantly and variously in many visual art forms from the earliest centuries of
Christianity and Christian iconography. This essay will explore the depiction of the Annunciation
and symbolism in the period of the Italian Renaissance and pay particular attention towards the
development of the focus on spiritualism towards naturalism through the refined language of
expression and gesture from the 14th century to the late 15th century.

Fig. 1 captures the very moment that the archangel Gabriel comes down from the heavenly realm to
earth to announce to Mary that she will conceive the Christ child and he shall be called Jesus. The
gold of his crown is representative of the celestial realm that he has left to deliver this message
(Kleiner, 2010:387). The announcement is depicted very much in the moment as the words are
quite literally illustrated with the text Ava gratia plena Dominus tecum (Van Dijk, 1999:420),
which leave his mouth from left to right as if they were encapsulated in a speech bubble. The
phrase is in fact inscribed in Latin and reads as Hail, Mary, full of grace, blessed art thou among
women (Van Dijk, 1999:420). The draping cloth around Gabriel s gold infused light blue robe
whips around the angel as if he had just land and his wings, which are still erect, depict an
effortless grace of divine delicacy in the way that Martini executed them. Making use of
undulating, long curved linear lines, they are almost liquid like in their fluidity. The angel is
painted holding a branch of olive leaves in his left hand. This is a symbol of the Christ head and
his coming to earth as the Prince of Peace (Emmerson, 2006:456), and also makes a reference to
the traditional biblical story of Noah, the ark and the dove returning with an olive branch as a
promise of the covenant of peace made by God with man (Genesis 8:11, English Standard Version)

  • 2. Analysis Of Frank Jackson s Paper, Epiphenomenal Qualia,... In Frank Jackson s paper, Epiphenomenal Qualia, Jackson rejects physicalism, a philosophical theory that states that everything in the world that exists, including all that is mental, is physical. Additionally, physicalists believe that everything in the world can be explained through the laws of fundamental physics. Furthermore, Jackson uses thought experiments such as Mary s room, in order to demonstrate the non physical nature that certain experiences can create. Rather, Jackson believes that these non physical experiences can be explained by information known as epiphenomenal qualia. In this paper, I argue that Jackson successfully introduces epiphenomenalism and proves his theory that physicalismis false, since there are certain experiences, or qualia , that we have that can t simply be explained through physical notions. In order to fully understand how Jackson came up with his argument, one must first understand what the words physicalism and epiphenomenal qualia actually mean in relation to Jackson s paper. Jackson explains physicalism as a certain type of materialism, which is the belief that there s only one main substance in the world and that is matter, or the physical material that make up the material world. Materialism essentially rejects substance dualism, which says that there are two different types of substances that exist, the matter that make up the material world and the mind, which is responsible for our mental awareness and how we feel ... • 3. Social Location In Sociology After reading all fourth articles, I believe I have a stronger understanding of sociology. However, it is complex and I still have a lot to learn to fully grasp the significance of sociology. One thing I ve never thought to analyze is social location which is seen in all four articles. Social location is an important concept in sociologybecause it gives you a better understanding of what category people belong to in society. What makes up a social location is obviously the location, race, religion, gender, and culture. We need to look beyond people s individual motivations or their psychological foundations and gain a better understanding of how people s social location with regard to gender or race influences their thinking and behavior ... • 4. Persuasive Speech About Stereotypes Don t be racist, be PewDiePie. He is Swedish, looks American, lives in the UK, has an Italian girlfriend, and likes Mexican candy. The U.S. is no longer as racist as it used to be, as 200 years ago, you were likely a slave because of your skin color. However, today many Americans are being racist to Asians in a new way: stereotyping. Hello, I m Dexter Chen, and today I will be discussing why you shouldn t stereotypeAsians because stereotypes aren t true, are extremely discouraging, and because stereotyping is offensive in general. Before we get into this topic, let me explain what stereotyping is. Stereotyping is judging a group, religion, ethnicity, or even gender, although these stereotypes might not reflect on reality. This is caused by social media, the human tendency to reduce complex things to simple things, and prejudice. You might be thinking to yourself: Gee, how is stereotyping offensive? It s just a playful way of describing someone! If you are thinking that doubtful thought, then pay attention, because I will show you why you shouldn t stereotype anyone, especially Asians. First things first: Stereotypes are usually untrue. An average Asian Americanstereotype would be nerdy, introverted, and smart. That stereotype isn t even close to true. Imagine 4.4 billion people all being nerdy, smart, and introverted. That s literally not possible. Everyone s different in their own ways. Are all Americans stupid and fat? Because that s what the rest of the world thinks ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. How Social Media Has Changed Our Culture Social media has changed our culture in ways many, in years past, would have thought to be impossible. With the advent of social media, people are connected around the world. Using the internet we can have face to face conversations, write letters , play games, and much more with others instantly without the need of being in the same room as them. Even though we are all constantly connected, some feel our technological innovations are causing us to become lonelier. Many feel physical interactions are key to creating emotional bonds. Some even feel left out because they are not technologically incline. Those who believe technologyis making us lonelier often note how some people say they have friends that they have never met in real life, or cite shows like Catfish where people fall in love with others over the internet, but the person they thought they were talking to is not actually who they were talking to. Though some may think technology is making us lonelier, in actuality it bring us closer together. The internet is amazing. It connects people all around the world. A few summers ago I went to camp in New Hampshire and met people from around the country and around the world. At camp I became friends with a guy named Vicente. Vincente lives in Spain. We became close friends at camp. When camp was over we were not disappointed because when we made it back home we connected via Facebook. • 7. Analysis Of Snow White And The Seven Drawfs The film of Snow White and the Seven Drawfs (1938) is directed by David Hand (supervising) an animated musical fantasy that film produced by Walt Disney Productions and originally released by RKO Radio Pictures. The film shows the audience how heroism is the major theme because there are good individuals (i.e. the seven dwarfs, the forest animal and the prince) around whom we can count on to do the right thing even when we are in trouble. Surprisingly, the film story is slightly told differently from the original story written by the Grimm brothers. In effect, Disney removes scenes such as [a mother] eating the lungs and liver of her supposedly dead daughter because that the animated film is addressed to young children(Davis, 2009). Not mention, young children would not understand why a mother would want to kill her own daughter out of jealousy. The movie Snow White and the Seven Drawfs has many themes but heroism is the main focus in this paper. In short, heroism is established through costumes, acting style, and lighting. Heroes are dressed in costumes. This is shown in The Evil Queen s Death scene in which the animal sense danger and after attempting to drive [the Witch] away, rush to the mine to fetch the dwarfs, where they try to warn them.nWhen Sleepy suggests that the Queen has found Snow White, the dwarfs rush home to find that the Witch has succeeded in poisoning the princess and it s about to leave. The dwarfs chase the Witch into the mountains and she reaches the cliff. [The Witch] attempts to crush the dwarfs with a boulder nut a flash of lightning causes her to fall from the cliff and be crushed by the boulder herself (The Disney Wiki). The seven dwarfs costumes are different colored stocking caps, tunic, leggings with a black belt with a rectangular outlined buckle, and medieval style shoes. After, the handsome Prince arrives in a custom wearing a red cape, a blue tunic over a white shirt with gray pants, a dagger sheathed at his left hip and boots to kiss Snow White to break the spell of the Sleeping Death. The heroism theme is established in costumes to become the best version of yourself and approachable to those in need. The heroism theme comes through the acting style in Snow White ... • 8. Business Law Case Study Business Law Case Study In the case presented, Biff Smith, the Chief of Police of the local department ordered a set of bicycles off of a local storeowner, Dirk Right. This was no simple order though, in fact Biff intended on starting a bike patrol unit within the local department. Biff went to Dirks Bicycle shop to place an order. The order was for five mountain bikes to be used for patrol so they had to be custom made in order to sport the police decals. Biff was very familiar with the Schwinn bicycle company so he asked Dirk to order him five top of the line bikes at the best price . This simple statement implied that Biff not only wanted the bikes but he intended on paying for them as well. So soon after Dirk accepted the deal... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore Dirks specially ordered custom bikes for the police department upon the request from Biff are considered specially made. The custom bikes were a special order because they contained unique decals displaying POLICE . Therefore Dirk can enforce the oral contract against Biff despite the price being an excess of $500, (under Revised article 2). Analyzing the case with all elements in mind, we concluded that a contract was in fact created. Dirk, who is pursuing Biff in court, will put up a case due to the oral contract that was indeed made. In this case there is no need for a written contract because Biff verbally agreed to buy five Schwinn custom police mountain bikes specially ordered by Dirk. For this non resellable goods exception to apply, the seller, Dirk, must have made a substantial beginning in manufacturing the goods. To show this is true, Dirk went out of his way to create an order for Biff that was special for the Police department, and by doing so, Dirk cannot return/resell the bikes, and he is at a loss of $17,500. The most important factor working in Dirks favor is the letter he received from the local PBA. The end of the letter had a hand written signature thanking Dirk for ordering the bikes. This is hard evidence that a deal was made because the note brings up the agreement for the bikes in writing and is signed by the second party, Biff. Dirk has enough evidence to bring Biff to ... • 9. Importance Of Personal Goals In Life Since I was young, I knew exactly what I wanted to do in life, to be successful and happy. My whole life, I have been surrounded by prosperous family members and family friends. Growing up around these people, I came to acknowledge that they had a sense of stability and happiness about them because they got to get up every morning and go to a job they love. However, what I admired most is their success did not come easy, they worked hard to become the respected people they are today. This assisted me in adapting three strong core values: personal growth, entrepreneurship, and respect. Although I grew up with a successful family, I learned that success does not come easy. Nowadays, people are led to believe they do not have to exert any effort to become successful, and they could just lean on their family s prosperity. My family was raised in the middle to upper class, but they were all parented to know they had to earn it themselves and that they had to work for what they want; they couldn t turn to their family for assistance. Therefore, I was also raised with this view. This developed my value of personal growth. One of my goals in life is to earn my Doctor of Veterinary Medicineand my Master of Business Administration. I strive to achieve these, knowing that the process will be challenging. After graduating veterinary school with my Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, I plan to become a vet. • 10. Philip The Fortunate Was A Very Good French King Philip VI the Fortunate Andrew Miller 10th History 12 27 16 Introduction I think Philip the Fortunate was a very good French King. He was known for being the first French king of the Valois dynasty. His reign saw the beginning of the Hundred Years War and the arrival of the Black Death. Body In May of 1328, Philip of Valois became King Philip VI of France. In August of that year, the count of Flanders appealed to Philip for help in putting down a revolt. The king responded by sending his knights to slaughter thousands at the Battle of Cassel. Not long after that, Robert of Artois, who had helped Philip get the crown, claimed the countship of Artois; but a royal candidate did so, as well. Philip instituted judicial proceedings against Robert, turning his one time supporter into a bitter enemy. It wasn t until 1334 that trouble began with England. Edward III, who didn t particularly like paying homage to Philip for his holdings in France, decided to flout Philip s interpretation of Salic Law and lay claim to the French crown through his mother s line. (Edward was most likely spurred on in his animosity toward Philip by Robert of Artois.) In 1337 Edward landed on French soil, and what would later be known as Hundred Years War began. In order to wage war Philip had to raise taxes, and in order to raise taxes he had to make concessions to the nobility, the clergy, and the bourgeoisie. This resulted in the rise of the estates and the beginning of a reform movement in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. What Are The Similarities Between Harry Potter And The... Harry Potter and the Phallus Fallacy An exploration of Freudian and Lacanian Phallus Theory The phallus has long been represented as a powerful symbol time and time again in culture, pop culture, society and media. Closely linked to the male biological penis, it is representative of power as well as a symbol of control and strength. Even popular children s literature revolves around the phallus in an unconscious way. The phallus works in several ways in these cases; characters often posses objects representative of the phallus which yield power such as the use of wands, and many story lines follow characters attempting to seize power and trying to maintain that power with the fear of power loss constantly looming over them. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A symbolic version of a phallus, such as a wand, sword or cane, is constructed to represent male generative powers. The phallus in psychoanalytic theory is represented as the supreme symbol of masculine power and of feminine lack (Rine 14 15). Feminist theorists constructed the term phallocentrism in order to denote the pervasive privileging of the masculine within the current system of signification. (Rine 22 26). Freud did not make a distinction between the penis, as a biological bodily organ, and the phallus as a signifier of sexual difference. Freud s theory of psychoanalysis argues that whilst men posses a penis, no one can posses a symbolic phallus (Homer 56). Lacan, in the essay The Signification of the Phallus argues that the difference between having and being the phallus is that men are positioned as men as long as they are seen to have the phallus, whereas women, not having a phallus, are seen to be the phallus (Lacan 1309). To Lacan, the phallus symbolizes both the penis and the clitoris as a signifier but the phallus is constructed to be a signifier of power and is distinguished between the sexes in terms of lack (Lacan 1306, Rine 14). • 13. The School That I Would Give Temple University Essay I have attended only three different schools before NECC. The school that I thought was by far the most dynamic and helped me retain information better was Temple University. I would give Temple University an A, because I was exposed to several different teaching styles, which made the classes much more memorable. I remember sitting in my Language in Society Class thinking Why are we taking a group quiz? He might as well just hand out the A s. But it was much deeper than that. I had to learn how to balance speaking and listening for group participation, in addition to time management. It wasn t like a group project, because we were just working together for one timed class period instead of having days of preparation. These were skills that I came to realize were much more important outside of school. I ve noticed a lot at work, when we have to make a timed decision especially, that people would dominate conversations and leave people s opinions out. Now, I actually want to hear from people who are quieter as opposed to just thinking that they agree with whatever is being said. I had several different teachers that would challenge the structure of a normal classroom. Being a Linguistics/Speech Pathology major at Temple University meant a lot of my classes were voice and sound related. I can t begin to describe the weird sounds and phrases we had to produce with our mouths. Learning this way really helped because learning where my alveolar ridge is and how a specific ... • 14. Essay on Isolation in Sherwood Anderson s Winesburg, Ohio Isolation in Winesburg, Ohio Winesburg, Ohio is a story of lost or nonexistent connections with other human beings. Every character throughout the text has a want, a need, to connect with someone or something. Each individual faces a life of isolation. In most cases the solitary nature of their lives is self inflicted. This self punishment seems to be the outcome of a deeply personal hatred towards the characters perceived differences with the rest of the Winesburg population. Each character seems to deteriorate into a simply physical being with no with no living soul left. This is best stated in the words of Irving Howe. He wrote, The grotesques rot because they are unused, their energies deprived of outlet, and their instincts curdled in isolation (Howe). This rotting effect is evident in several other characters; however, it can be most strongly noticed within Elizabeth Willard. Elizabeth Willard, the mother of George Willard, was a wild girl with many dreams. One of her most prevalent was to become a great actress, and work in a traveling company much like those that visited and passed through Winesburg. Upon marrying Tom Willard, Elizabeth s world changed drastically. It seemed her fiery spirit had been broken. No longer did she chase her dreams. They were traded instead to become a maid of sorts to her inherited business. Within her life there was but one joy left and that was Elizabeth s only son, George. Much like his mother was, George is a dreamer. He aspired to become a writer rather than the financial success his father pushes him to be. This was Elizabeth s single hope for her son. Yet in her own eyes she was a failure, a broken old woman, and could not find the strength to express these strong feelings to her son. It was the self perceived defeat that prevented Elizabeth from speaking. Like Wing Biddlebaum and the remaining group of outcasts she hid herself away. In essence, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 15. A Brief Note On Concentration And Surface Water Estimating Bifenthrin Concentration in Surface water in Urban Sacramento. Introduction Pyrethroid insecticides have replaced organophosphates (OP) insecticides, such as, diazinon and chlorpyrifos for structural pest control and landscape maintenance in most urban environments in the United States in recent times. Pyrethroids are manufactured derivatives of pyrethrins, which are natural insecticides that are produced by certain species of chrysanthemum. These insecticides are neurotoxins and focus on the central nervous system of insects , thereby, making it exceptionally viable in pest control. These chemicals are broadly utilized by professional applicators to keep pests out of structures either as landscape application, or as perimeter treatments. Other than professional applications which are documented, pyrethroids are also incorporated in many pest control products that are designed for homeowners and available at retail stores, however the utilization of these items are not all around reported documented (Moran, 2006). The combination of these uses (professionals and homeowners) aids in the increase presence of pyrethroids on urban landscape and structures which are later washed off to urban creeks. The most commonly suspected modes of transport of pesticide residues from urban application sites to downstream pesticide contamination is by means of irrigation (dry) or runoff (rain). In spite of the fact that pyrethroid insecticides are present in a wide variety of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One detriment may be that your nearby surf shop may have a constrained supply of surfboards in light of the fact that stock requires expansive money expenses. After deciding to divide his kingdom amongst his daughters and live out his life in peace, Lear chooses to base the amount of land given to each daughter off how must they love him. Or perhaps, how much they say they love him. Goneril and Regan cajole the King, using flattery and professing they love him beyond all manner (I.I.60). This warms the King s heart, but when Cordelia, his favourite daughter, cannot find a way to put her love for her father into words, Lear s ego feels bruised and he takes offence. Mandatory Rotation Of Registered Public Accounting Firms The mandatory audit partner rotation was also one of the aspect targeted by SOX and requires that every lead partner or reviewing partner must be rotated every five years in order to bring a fresh look to each engagement. A particular aspect of all this rotations is the possibility to impose mandatory rotation of registered public accounting firms. The SOX requested to the Comptroller General of the United States to conduct a study addressing this issue and the implications of this requirements. Although the PCAOB has expressed the importance of having some type of rotation in the registered CPA firms and in 2011 issued a concept release proposing mandatory auditfirm rotation, some congressman like Republican Robert Hurt have taken steps in order to avoid this type of regulations and the Audit Integrity and Job Protection Act was passed by the House of Representatives in 2013. These act prohibit the mandatory rotation of registered CPA firms arguing this decision correspond to the audit committee and the shareholders of the corporation and no to regulators. In my opinion, the mandatory registered CPA firm rotation is an unnecessary burden to impose to companies, especially small corporations, that would be force to be changing constantly and without any justification of CPA firm. • 22. Education Is The Key To A Better, Developed And Civilized... Education has been told to us as the key to a better, developed and civilized society. With proper education, there can be no limits to an individual s achievements in life; but on the other hand, lack of access to education is a major building block to a primitive, backward and uncivilized society. A bad educationsystem designed not for learning but only to keep children who can not afford private education in schools is a recipe for oppression as it widens the gap between socioeconomic status, gender and age. It trains people to be a part of a capitalistic and oppressive society by reinforcing classism, racism and sexism (Lipsitz, Lozenski, Ford, 2014). A better society is defined by its quality of education and health standards. It has been notice that where there the education system is oppressive or oppressed, the health sector follows suit. One cannot go through an oppressive education system and expect the opposite when it comes to health care provisions. Therefore the system of education has a direct impact on the health care system of a society, the rich who benefit from the system of education also benefit from health care system. It comes into play when I look at the system of education that makes the rich white majority acquire better education services at the expense of their black counterparts or people with color in the society (Giroux, 2017). This pilot provides timely treatment for individuals under 25 who are newly diagnosed, or have untreated psychosis (Vancouver Coastal Health, 2016). SC met these criteria. EPI is based on the idea that if psychosis is recognized and treated early, interventions can limit the potential for ongoing negative consequences (BC Early PsychosisIntervention Program, 2016). Although this was SC s fourth hospitalization, this was her first time on the EPI. By not being treated effectively on her first admission, her chances of success were reduced. A substantial barrier for EPI is a client s delay, or refusal to access services (BC SchizophreniaSociety, 2012). SC had not been ready to accept treatment during previous admissions. Lappin et al. (2016) also argue that there needs to be available services specifically for young adults early in their illness that also have particular interventions for drug related psychosis. This addictions component is not specifically addressed in the current EPI model. However, it specifically targets young adults. As well as additional monitoring of EPI, SC was being stabilized through medications. The Significance of Philosophical Scepticism Essays The Significance of Philosophical Scepticism In answer to the question What can we know? anyone who gives a pessimistic answer is labelled a sceptic. Scepticism is associated with incredulity. A sceptic is someone who questions things (particularly received opinions) and also practices suspension of judgement. This questioning outlook has been labelled by some as practical scepticism. However, philosophical scepticism involves more than this. Its essential element is a general view about human knowledge. In the broadest terms, philosophical scepticism holds, or at least finds irrefutable, the view that knowledge is impossible. There are two features of philosophical scepticism which differentiate it from everyday sceptical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The strength and scope of philosophical scepticism are connected with the simplicity and intuitiveness of sceptical arguments, which are radical and general because they exploit only lowest common denominator features of knowledge. Another characteristic of philosophical scepticism is that it offers initially plausible arguments for its sceptical conclusion. They are plausible in that not only do they display no obvious logical flaws, they seem to involve only the simplest and most mundane considerations. They appear to be highly intuitive. This apparent intuitiveness is crucial to scepticism being such an intractable problem. If sceptical arguments were obviously dependent on controversial or implausible theoretical ideas, scepticism would not be a surprising verdict on our aspirations to knowledge but simply a consequence of some regrettable, theoretical missteps. This is in fact what makes sceptical arguments philosophically interesting. They present us with a line of reasoning that we ourselves find intuitively plausible, but which leads to a conclusion that we find absolutely implausible. The task then, for those epistemologists who think that scepticism is based on a mistake, is to identify and explain the mistake. The implication of philosophical scepticism is that, rationally speaking, we can believe anything or nothing. This highlights the huge gulf between philosophical scepticism and ordinary ... According to Irwin Altman and Dalmas Taylor, Social Penetration Theory is defined as the process of bonding that moves a relationship from superficial to more intimate. The theory can be perceived as a game plan for people, especially in a relationship. This can give you guidance on how to interact with individuals in order to establish a stable, and developing relationship through interpersonal communication. For example, when you encounter someone whom you ve never met before, you may ask some questions to learn a little bit about this person. We tend to exchange information back and forth by asking people questions. Essentially, this is what social penetration theory does. It looks at how we exchange and share information with people that we have never met before and how we self disclose. Self disclosure can be separated into the theories three main concepts: depth, breadth, and reciprocity. These important concepts of Social Penetration Theory were clearly shown when I witnessed an unusual conversation between my roommate, Maddy and a young man named Nick. A typical conversation, turned into an extremely uncomfortable situation for all of us. Something we definitely did not expect. Amidst the second industrial revolution in America, names such as Vanderbilt (Rail), Carnegie (Steel), Rockefeller (Oil), Morgan (Electricity/Finance), and of course Henry Ford(Automobile) are often lionized for their achievements in building America into a modern day power. All that is, but Henry Ford. Indeed, damaging arguments could be made against the former Edison Illuminating Company machinist and Ford Motor Company founder, born July 30th, 1863. The Rise Of Crime And Crime Opposing to widely held outlooks for example, both victimisation and authorised crime presented specifically sharp drops from 2007 to 2009, when being without a job rates ascended. Robbery, burglary, and household theft oppressions had been dropping by a rate of about 4% per year from 1993 2006, but fell by an ordinary of 6 to 7% per year for the duration of the Great Recession. This is not for the reason that crimeis distinct to economic situations, but for the reason that crime is correlated to so many other things. Criminologists Richard Rosenfeld and Robert Fornango propose that consumer confidence and the view of economic poverty may have an explanation for as much as one third of the topical decrease in robbery and property crime. On the other hand, despite the fact that economic recessions and consumer sentiment are in the cards to play some character, they cannot account for the extensive and firm drops, crime rates have been falling for twenty years. In addition for this motive, most criminologists feature only an insignificant portion of the crime drop to economic conditions, (Richard Rosenfeld, 2007). • 37. The Effects Of Classroom Talk On The Classroom In teaching, a large proportion of time is spent in talking and listening. As the major factor in a classroom it should become the main process by which a pupil learns. After all it is the primary method that humans use to communicate. It leads me to ask how important is it? And does what is talked about in lessons equate to the quality of learning that is happening in the classroom. On the basis of these questions, Daniels (2001 cited in Alexander, 2004:8) argues that classroom talk not only mediates teaching and learning but the wider culture. Alexander (2004:9) also indicates that talk is necessary for the building of the brain itself as a physical organism and thereby expanding its power . Because talking is not recorded in a book unlike writing, teachers may tend to be less reflective on what is said rather than what is written. For instance, Alexander (2004:6) points out that it is always written work that is regarded as real school work and as the most reliable medium for measuring pupil s learning . Barnes (1992:124) also implies that learning is not simply adding bits of information to the previous knowledge. Rather, most important learning is a matter of working on understanding , which can be achieved through talk (ibid). In an effort to reveal the importance of classroom talk in student learning and their interrelation, I aim to discuss whether student learning is closely linked to the quality of classroom talk through the foundation subjects of science ... Serene Hedonismoffers the perspective that the only truly valuable thing in life is that of pleasure while this philosophy initially may sound appealing it lacks any development in a meaningful purpose for an individual other than maximizing pleasures of the senses. • 41. The Curriculum Starting From Early Education If I had to choose any of the six educational philosophies I would choose Essentialism. I believe that all individuals should be taught the same curriculum starting from early education in order to success in our society. According to (Gutek 2013), genuine education involves learning basic skills, that are needed to function effectively in civilized society. Human Nature Aspects According to (Kronfeldner, M 2014) essentialist hypothesizes, that there exists some characteristic unique to and shared by all members of Homo sapiens which explains why they are the way they are. All humans are inherited with the same basic characteristic that makes us all unique. (Willis J 2008), believes that there are some features common to all human beings that is, independent of individual, cultural and historical factors that are conducive to a good life and human flourishing. With that being said, there is a general agreement that all humans share the same basic human nature characteristics. Personal Reaction All humans have the basic desire to live a good, flourishing life which may pertains to health, money or love. I believe our human nature would do anything to pursue these common beliefs. Humans are eager to learn only if it meets their basic human nature needs. This incident demonstrated that adversaries can achieve success by conducting influence operations. China identifies cyberspace as a key domain to project power and dominance. In 2005, China infiltrated numerous secure government systems and successfully retrieved more than ten terabytes of data. However, existing U.S. strategies have three shortfalls: 1) scope (addressing all dimensions in the information environment), 2) deterrence (defining acts of war), and 3) whole of nation approach. The first shortfall is that the scope must be broader. U.S. strategies sufficiently address threats to the physical and informational dimensions within the information environment. However, the U.S. lacks a strategy that identifies challenges and threats in the cognitive dimension within the information environment. Adversaries, such as ISIS, are effectively utilizing influence campaigns to advance their agenda by manipulation of the values, perceptions, and beliefs of the U.S. public and other target audiences. • 43. Social Contract Theory On The Origin Of State SOCIAL CONTRACT THEORY 1. INTRODUCTION: The social contract theory is one of the oldest theories on the origin of state. This theory came into existence as a reaction against the divine origin theory. The term social is something which is connected with the society, while contract means an agreement between two or more people. Thus a term of political theory, social contract implies an agreement that makes society possible .this theory holds that the state is the voluntary and deliberate agreement on the part of the people those who emerged from the state of nature, in order to form a state based on a contract between the people and the sovereign and is not made by the god and thus implies that the state is a man`s deliberate creation to serve his needs. The core idea behind this theory is an assumption that there was a period in human history, when there was no state at all and no political law existed. The idea that the power to the ruler is given based on some kind of agreement between him and his subjects is quite old. The social contract theory envisages a state of nature where there were no organised government and rulers. There were no man made laws and no authority to govern the people .the state of nature was prepolitical the idea of social contract divides the state into two phases, i.e. one is the state of nature which was the life of the people before the state came into existence and second is the creation of the state as a result of the contract entered ... This Deaf man could moreover be singly part of the only reason the Texans do not speak fluent Spanish as their first language that was born in the early part of 18th century. The reason I chose this individual is because of my intrigue of American history, moreover, through my research I found that he introduced a fine stock of Muley (meaning hornless) cattle from Louisiana to the San Antonio area, where the Longhorn breed was previously popular. My intent of this paper is to bring the history of an extraordinary Deaf man to light with his trials and triumphs. Erastus Deaf Smith was born April 19th,1787 In New York. From his birth or a childhood illness, Deaf Smith experienced a partial hearing loss. It is believed that his birth was breech and from that he suffered a lifetime of health issues and fragility. With his health problems among them he suffered was severe lung problems most likely tuberculosis. Smith moved to Mississippi in 1817 and then to Texasin 1821. During the time of his move to Mississippi and permanency in the state of Texas, his health improved most likely from the change in the climates. Smith also had the belief that eating skunk was a reason for his health improvement. After Smith had settled into New Dewitt Colony near Gonzalez, Texas. He married Mexican ... Vitamin E (300 mg/day) and vitamin C (300 mg/day) were given to each patient orally for 12 months. Half of the patients had a liver biopsy done on them before and after the trial treatment. The findings of this trial concluded that using both vitamin E and vitamin C combined can help patients with NASH by minimizing the damage from oxidative stress, significantly improving fibrosis, and actually slowing down the process that eventually leads to cirrhosis. When vitamin E is administered along with vitamin C, the combination of both can actively fight against the oxidative stress in the liver. In this study, serum alanine aminotransferase levels improved, along with a decrease in serum thioredoxin, high sensitivity C reactive protein, and 8 hydroxydeoxyguanosine levels. This trial suggests that the combination of vitamin C and E should be investigated further to be able to take advantage of the full benefits of vitamin E against nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (11). Last trial on this research was similar to the second trial discussed. This trial focused only on adults without diabetes and without a developed case of cirrhosis. The reason these patients were excluded was due to the fact that it is unclear whether these patients would have the same response to the therapy being offered as patients without these conditions. The results on this trial were slightly different than the second trial discussed. In this trial, significant ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

His role in the Arthurian legend is to protect and serve the lands of Camelot. The Life of Merlingave him the qualities of an humble man, who took pleasure in loneliness. The source provided descriptive details of Merlin s actions and how they affected others in relations to his selfishness. In the narrative, Monmouth wrote Merlin to be a man who wanted nothing to do with anyone, except for himself. After the 1900 s, author of The Daughter of Merlin took a different perspective and gave the character a child that shared the same qualities. Through the learning histories, I developed my empathy with the struggles of immigrant, racial and minority community and understood how to build solidarity with each other. Fig. 1 captures the very moment that the archangel Gabriel comes down from the heavenly realm to earth to announce to Mary that she will conceive the Christ child and he shall be called Jesus. The gold of his crown is representative of the celestial realm that he has left to deliver this message (Kleiner, 2010:387). The announcement is depicted very much in the moment as the words are quite literally illustrated with the text Ava gratia plena Dominus tecum (Van Dijk, 1999:420), which leave his mouth from left to right as if they were encapsulated in a speech bubble. The phrase is in fact inscribed in Latin and reads as Hail, Mary, full of grace, blessed art thou among women (Van Dijk, 1999:420). The draping cloth around Gabriel s gold infused light blue robe whips around the angel as if he had just land and his wings, which are still erect, depict an effortless grace of divine delicacy in the way that Martini executed them. Making use of undulating, long curved linear lines, they are almost liquid like in their fluidity. The angel is painted holding a branch of olive leaves in his left hand. This is a symbol of the Christ head and his coming to earth as the Prince of Peace (Emmerson, 2006:456), and also makes a reference to the traditional biblical story of Noah, the ark and the dove returning with an olive branch as a promise of the covenant of peace made by God with man (Genesis 8:11, English Standard Version) In the middle of the very shallow ...
