3. Comparing Kubrick s Film And Burgess Essay
A difference and slight similarity between Kubrick s Film and Burgess novella is the narration. In
both, Alex is the narrator and uses Nadsat vocabulary to describe his acts of violence, however, the
film narrative is perceived as less powerful as the novella. In the book, Alex s narration accentuates
his cruelty, pleasure, and lack of remorse. His pleasure is highlighted in the book displaying his dark
thoughts, making the novella A Clockwork Orange appear to be a more grotesque piece in language
than the film. This is evident in an act of violence, the raping of two ten year old girls. In the film,
Alex has what appears to be consensual sex with two women around or a few youngers than himself,
that the met in a record store. In the novel, he meets two ten year old girls instead and purchases them
some food in addition. He then convinces them to come with him where they become intoxicated and
he rapes them. Alex in the novella narrates the aftermath,
They looked like they had been in some big bitva, as indeed they had, and were all bruised and pouty.
Well, if they would not go to school they would still have their education. And education they had had.
They were creeching and going ow ow ow as they put their platties on, and they were like
punchipunching me with their teeny fists as I lay there dirty and nagoy and fair shagged and fagged on
the bed. (36)
Whereas the film, nothing but the scene of Alex and the two young women having sex is shown.

Having grown up in a developing country, and having lived in multiple countries as an immigrant and
a visible minority, I have seen and experienced varying degrees of inequality first hand. My
experiences as an immigrant and visible minority have transformed me into an advocate of social
justice and made me keenly aware of the complex issues facing immigrants. These experiences have
given me the desire to pursue a legal education, with a career goal of becoming a lawyer specializing
in labor and international law. I intend to utilize the knowledge gained in helping new immigrants in
my adopted country, Canada, gain a foothold in the Canadian job market.

Perhaps my most meaningful extra curricular activity was my time as a writer and photographer for

When looking at both companies websites you can quickly gather that they are in fact, targeting the
same audience. The sites contain very similar features. Sephora.com uses the sophisticated standard of
black and white with minimum graphics and a classic font. What really sets the Sephora site apart is
the use of red font, popping up sporadically on the page. The classic trio of black, white and red along
with the classic font gives Sephora a glamorous, retro Hollywood impression.
Ulta.com also utilizes the black and white motif but instead of red accents, a light orange embellishes
select text for emphasis. The font is considerably more fun; adding to an overall youthful appearance.
There are more graphics and attention grabbing headliners on Ulta.com. The addition of graphics and

challenging power to the U.S. dominance across the world and especially the Middle East has just
recently started to challenge that hegemony as seen in its operations in Syria but the region is still
heavily influenced by U.S. foreign policy that was established during the operation Desert Storm. The
operation brought to the battlefield a new era of military technology. Majority of the battles were won
from the air (Operation Desert Storm, Evaluation of the Air Campaign, 1997). This aerial manner of
conducting warfare was highly effective because it was not only successful in terms of the damage

5.5 Limitations
Due to the limited amount of studies done on strategic budgetary system as it relates to power
infrastructure development in public sector in Nigeria, the survey used in this study was partially
based on survey instruments adapted and some generated by the researcher. A number of questions
used in the instrument were developed specifically to suite this dissertation. However, researchers
undertaking studies in strategic budgetary system in the future would benefit from survey questions
validated more specifically in the context of power sector infrastructure development. Furthermore,
the answers from respondents also need to be understood in the context of public servants giving
answers that they felt were expected rather than absolutely honest answers for fear of exposing
important personal and government secrets. Lastly, in Nigeria public sector there is dearth of data for
research. As a corollary, collection of data for this study was difficult especially in the past years
during the military regime.

Based on the research conducted in this dissertation, the study hereby makes the following
recommendations in line with the nine hypotheses tested:
First, the amount set aside in the development plans for infrastructure has direct relationship with the
level and quality of projects to be executed. It is recommended that proper power planning should be

bit. Medical websites, such as the one for the Mayo Clinic, state that viruses, fungi, bacteria, parasites,
heat and even some forms of medication may cause skin rashes. There are also some fairly common
skin diseases such as eczema, psoriasis, acne, rosacea, and dermatitis that can result in a rash. There
are many natural essential oils that are tailor made for treating skin conditions. If you have a skin rash
you should look for essential oils that have antiseptic, anti viral, anti infectious (so the rash won t

The main topic of this article is punk culture, but specifically a subset of hardcore punk culture called
Straight Edge. The article traces the evolution of the Straight Edge movement from the 1980 s 2000 s.
This author argues that the Straight Edge movement evolved to become a lifestyle and an ideology. In
short, the author argues that as the Straight Edge movement evolved, the original ideology associated
with the movement shifted in the opposite direction due in part to the changing demographic of the
Straight Edge movement. The author s primary sources include interviews and testimonials from
individuals that were part of the movement, usually taken from magazines or books about the Straight
Edge movement. In order to establish what the Straight Edge movement was all about, this author also
looks at the actual Hardline Manifesto from which the Straight Edge movement branched off of, but
she also uses CD s from bands like Minor Threat to track the musical changes that were taking place
in the movement as well. Unlike other articles, this author uses academic books about ... Show more

Even though the movement started out with promoting abstinence and veganism, the ambiguity of the
associated ideology and the changing demographics of the culture have distorted the original values of

center of a movement, especially since the dominant demographic of the movement can change what
the values of the movement itself. In order to attract people to a movement, the values of a movement
have to allow for a certain ambiguity, but that ambiguity can be twisted and stretched based on the
demographic and that brings up real life implications, especially when it comes to enacting the

12. Sparta Swot Analysis
Most societies that focus on one specific thing is pretty much setting themselves up to crumble to the
ground. One example is Sparta, Sparta lacked many many things to be a successful society, which is
why they only lasted 300 years. Sparta lacked education, they abused their children, and took them
away to harsh army training at such a young age. Sparta banned all foreign education from their city
state, and they only taught reading and writing for purely practical reasons, they also never let in any
foreign teachers into Sparta to teach. They abused their children too, every time a child was caught
stealing food, which they encouraged and said it was ok, they would whip them almost to the point of
death. The strengths in Sparta never even had a chance at outweighing the weaknesses for those
reasons. To start off, Spartans were never taught formal education, Sparta focused on their military
almost all the time, they were taught practical reading and writing, and were never allowed foreign
teachers and were never allowed to travel to other places. It says in Document D that all other forms

14. How Does Darcy Present Elizabeth Bennet s Marriage
First, The most significant marriage of the novel depicts the ideal vision of the bride Elizabeth Bennet.
Her ideal vision of what a marriage should be was one where the bride and groom had true love for
each other, as well as a mutual respect, and a intellectual connection that far surpassed a physical one.
Elizabeth had no social status or assets. This was an obstacle that Darcy had to overcome throughout
the book. He was constantly influenced by his family and those around him of equal or similar social
status that he should marry someone with some sort of power. However Elizabeth had to overcome her
prejudice towards the upper class, and understand Darcy for who he really was herself. Instead of
listening to and believing others opinions and gossip. This marriage clearly fits the description of its
bride s ideal marriage.
Next, George and Lydia s marriage was used to save Lydia and the Bennet family reputation. When
Lydia and George run away out of wedlock this potentially ruins the other Bennet sisters chance at
marrying into the upper class. Mrs. Bennet then manipulates the marriage although George is in severe

15. How Did Steel Change America
How Steel Changed America
By: Aiden, Landon, Michael, Sever, Trey
There is perhaps no other invention in American history quite as important as steel. Steel is made of
mostly iron, lime, and sometimes even scrap steel, but other metals can be added to make other types
of steel. While there are many types of steel today, in industrial America, Carbon Steel was the most
common form that was used. In fact, 80 to 90 percent of the steel produced was Carbon Steel. It
proved stronger than iron and was relatively inexpensive to make. This strong, inexpensive steel
revolutionized industrial America for many reasons. New, taller buildings could be built using new

16. Persuasive Essay On Child Abuse
NFL running back Adrian Peterson s recent arrest for allegedly abusing his four year old son has once
again sparked the debate over whether spanking is an appropriate form of discipline. Though some
contend any form of physical correction equates to child abuse, there is a giant chasm between a mild
spanking properly administered out of love and an out of control adult venting their emotions by
physically abusing a child.
At Focus on the Family we believe that parents have been entrusted with the incredible privilege and
responsibility of shaping their children s behavior in a positive direction. Unfortunately, each of us
enters this world with desires that are selfish, unkind, and harmful to others and ourselves. Spanking,
then, can be one effective discipline option among several in a parents tool chest as they seek to steer
their children away from negative behaviors and guide them toward ultimately becoming responsible,
healthy, happy adults.
It is vital, however, that spanking be administered within proper guidelines. The reports about the
punishment meted out by Peterson to his son, and the consequent injuries his son suffered, indicate his
behavior on that occasion was far outside those boundaries. These kinds of experiences are why this
whole issue is fraught with controversy a child should never be abused.
Properly understood and administered, spanking is most effective as a deterrent to undesirable
behavior for younger preschoolers (but never for infants).

Eleven million people were killed during the Holocaust. To put that in perspective, imagine waking up
and all the people in New York and Chicago combined were killed. That is how many people had lost
their lives because of what they believed in and how they looked. Racism, hatred, and bigotry toward
the Jewish, gypsy, and others caused a genocide of innocent people. The ones who survived were left

as answering questions that relate to the story. The story is a parable which stresses the importance of
being able to adapt to change. The story includes four main characters: two mice, Sniffy and Scurry,
and two little people, Hem and Haw. All four characters inhabit a maze, and spend their time seeking
out cheese. The story peaks as both the mice and humans stumble upon a vast amount cheese at
Cheese Station C. After finding the cheese the two humans become content with their find, and stop
searching for more. In contrast the mice continue their search for cheese. The humans begin to become
use to the vast amount of cheese, thus they begin a pattern of consuming the cheese without
resupplying it. Eventually the cheese diminishes until there is none left. This slow decline of cheese is
no surprise to the mice. Through observation during the period where both humans and mice consume
the cheese, the mice mentally prepare themselves for the depletion of cheese. The mice then leave
Cheese Station C to search for more cheese. Hem and Haw react differently to being void of cheese
once again. When they arrive to Cheese Station C they are shocked to find out they do not have any
more cheese. Hem becomes angry and proposes that someone has moved their cheese. After returning
next day, it becomes confirmed to Hem and Haw that the cheese is gone. Haw proposes that they

23. Reflection Of Peter Pan
The book, Peter Pan, is the most famous work of Scottish novelist and playwright, Sir James Matthew
Barrie. He first staged the story of Peter Pan in 1904 into the form of a play and subsequently
published a following novel in 1911. It is an endearing and alluring book about an eccentric and
fanciful little boy who wouldn t grow up. The story is set in a place called, the Neverland, where
Captain Hook is Captain of the Jolly Roger, Tiger Lily is the Princess of the Indians, Tinker Bell is a
fairy, and magical creatures that lie deep within the exotic locale. The book focuses on his adventures
and escapades with Wendy and her younger brothers, John and Michael. The novel begins with
highlighting the reality that all children except one, grow up (Barrie 1).
The journey begins when Peter Pan sets foot into the Darling s nursery and accomplishes to convince
Wendy to fly to Neverland with her brothers to tell the lost boys stories. Tinker Bell convinces the lost

She is the eldest child and was every inch a woman, though there were not very many inches (25).
Though she hoped she would avoid growing up by going to Neverland but the exact opposite
happened. In the story, Peter manages to convince Wendy to go to Neverland, only if she could take
her younger brothers, John and Michael as well, to take on the role of a mother to the lost boys, to tell
them bedtime stories and such things a mother should do. When they ask her to be their mother, she
responds ought I?... Of course it s frightfully fascinating, but you see I am only a little girl. I have no
real experience (66). She takes on the role innately by having pretend meal times, tucking them to bed,
sewing them pockets, and telling them stories. Wendy s character is dynamic since at first she wanted
to avoid the responsibility of growing up but towards the end, she realizes and decides she wants to

24. Jeremy Bentham s Argument Against Capital Punishment
America is within the top four countries for the number of executions due to the death penalty since
1999. Citing the, Amnesty International in For What Tomorrow (2004), more than 1,800 people were
executed in 31 countries, the vast majority of these in China (1076), Iran (165), Saudi Arabia (103),
and then the United States (98) (NAAS, 43). The death penalty is currently an intense debate
involving the idea of whether or not we as people should be able to sentence another person to death.
According to the ethical and moral reasoning of the philosophers Jeremy Bentham, Peter Singer, and
Hugo Bedau, the death penalty should not be a legal punishment.
Jeremy Bentham lived from 1748 1832 and during his lifetime addressed the death penalty ... Show

Following these rules maintains the balance between the severity of the punishment and the maximum
positive effects the punishment has. However, it would be extremely difficult to apply these rules to
today, because of the many different crimes and circumstances.
Bentham was very against the death penalty and his proposed alternative to the popular punishment at
the time was life in prison with hard labor and even occasionally solitary confinement. When given
the choice between the death penalty and the life imprisonment of which Bentham spoke, he believed
that as a Utilitarian he must choose the life imprisonment. Bentham believed that the threat of living in
prison for life was greater than the thought of death. This is it was a long, drawn out, torturous
process. This would compare to the quick death they would receive if they got the death penalty.
There are five major points that he makes against the death penalty using his utilitarian theory. The
first point he makes is that the death penalty is not profitable. By this Bentham means a dead person
can do nothing to repair the damage done by their crimes, whether this repair means helping the
victim or helping the society in which the crime was committed. A point included within modern times
would be a reference to the cost of the death penalty vs. life imprisonment. Today, it would actually be
much cheaper to

25. Children Need To Play, Not Compete By Jessica Statsky
Review of Jessica Statsky s Children Need to Play, Not Compete In Children Need to Play, Not
Compete , Jessica Statsky, stresses that competition in sports for five to six year old children has a
lasting impact on their psychological and social aspects. Jessica has a strong opinion about the adverse
effects of sports.
Negative situations arise when coaches and parents, with the intention of encouraging children to
enhance their skill sets indirectly convey the critical importance of winning and competition.
Jessica reasons out that such strategies of learning might lead to injuries on the physical and
psychological level. When children are driven thoughtlessly towards competition and achievement in
sports, they might experience tremendous pressure at a tender age, which might translate into deep
negative feelings and inability to deal with failure.
Sadly enough, the whole idea of play is reversed and children start to perceive ... Show more content

However, the execution of the final sport activity was done after thoroughly understanding the
individual competence and interests of the children. This was possible after spending years of learning
together with the child in their home school setting. Parents of children in such an environment
studied the preferences of their children and geared them gracefully to pursue a sport of their choice
and be a part of the team at a pace they were comfortable with. Children didn t just learn sports skills
in this way, but were also far better team players than public school children in their neighbourhood.
Parents of children inn this setting or their coaches were never bound by unattainable targets, hence
never pushed children into something they did not like or were not comfortable with, as this approach
was not in line with the home school value system they were

26. Lensky s Aria From The Opera Eugene Onegin
Lensky s Aria from the opera Eugene Onegin
A novel by Alexander Pushkin adapted for opera by Pytor Tchaikowsky in 1825
Arranged for flute and piano by Guy Braunstein; edited and revised by Emmanuel Pahud in 2009
Performed by Emmanuel Pahud and Fuminori Tanada
As does any opera, Tchaikowky s Russian Opera Eugene Onegin portrays a storyline overrun with
tragedy. Eugene Onegin has inherited his uncle s estate giving him access to acres of hunting ground
on which he meets Lensky, whom he becomes rather good friends with. The friendship does not last
long however, as a vast misunderstanding comes between them. Lensky had recently been engaged to
Olga, a neighbor of Onegin s, and finds himself incredibly joyful and very much in love. Lensky sees
Onegin dancing with his fiancé , and takes Onegin to be attempting to seduce his fiancé, yet this is not
the case. Onegin was only dancing with Olga to be cruel to her younger sister Tatyana who has
recently expressed her love for Onegin. Lensky will not here of Onegin s explanation and challenges
Onegin to a duel. It is in the scene of the duel where Lensky performs his aria. The aria is the last
lyrical piece in the opera at the end of Act 2. The aria is heard by the audience just before the battle
and just before Onegin loses his life.
Lensky s Aria has been performed by many vocalists both on stage and as a solo work accompanied
only by the piano. The lyrics tell of how Lensky wishes he were young again and had only

27. Shawshank Redemption Essay
Based on the 1982 Stephen King novella titled Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption, Frank
Darabont s film adaptation The Shawshank Redemption was released in 1994 and become a
remarkable motion picture in the history of American cinema. The film tells the story of prison life,
focusing on the mutual trust, friendship and growth prisoners experience together set against the
intolerable hardship and despair of prison life. Moreover, the movie portrays the nearly twenty year
friendship between two imprisoned men, Andy Dufresne and Ellis Red Redding, and how their self
concepts gradually change and their behaviors adjust to life behind bars. In 1948, a young and well off
Boston banker named Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins) comes to Shawshank prison ... Show more

During Andy and Red s first encounter in the yard when Andy asks Red if he could possibly get him a
rock hammer he says to Red I have no enemies here and Red replies No? with a smile, and said Wait
awhile (King, 1982). Since Andy is new to prison life, he does not understand that the second he
walked into Shawshank prison he made enemies already, but Red understands that and sarcastically
warns Andy about the possible threats are becoming more apparent. A man like Red, a man who has
many friends on the inside know that those friends and popularity will help keep him safe and alive.
While Andy is a man without friends and will eventually not be safe in Shawshank Prison anymore
unless he begins to make friends and alliances. The scenes that the bus enter the prison best represents
the dynamic or an individual outsider within an outsider group. Separation between the new prisoners
and the old ones is clearly evident in this scene. The way the old prisoners are taunting and attempting
to frighten the news ones is a prime example. The experienced inmates know the system and the
organizational culture; they know the do s and don ts of prison life, whereas the novices do not. The
fences surrounding the prison maintain the idea that prisoners are outside of mainstream society, but
also part of a separate community within the

28. Lab Report On Ascorbic Acid
Introduction
Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) is an essential nutrient used for the creation of certain biological compounds
and is naturally found in citrus fruits. 1 Ascorbic acid has a chemical formula of C¬¬6H8O6 and
reacts with Iodine to cause the reaction:2 C6H8O6(aq) + I2(aq) C6H6O6aq) +2I¬ (aq) + 2H+
To determine the amount of vitamin C an amount of KIO3 solution with a known concentration had it
s iodine freed with the chemicals KI and H2S04, this allowed the iodine to react with the dissolved
vitamin C tablet. This was then titrated against a primary standard of sodium thiosulfate at a
concentration of 0.01102*10 5¬¬M. These chemicals cause the following reactions3:
KIO3(aq) + 5KI(aq) +3H2SO¬4(aq) 3I2(aq) + 3K2SO4(aq) + 3H2O(l)
2Na2S2O3(aq) + I2(aq) 2NaI(aq) + Na2S4O6(aq)
Since the volume of KIO3 solution and so is the molarity we can determine the amount of KIO3
solution that was freed. We can then compare that to the amount of primary standard used to
determine the amount of Ascorbic acid in the solution.
Procedure
The procedure given in the First Year Chemistry Lab Manual for Experiment G4 was followed with
the modifications below.
Instead of using a 500mL volumetric flask a 1L volumetric flask was used. This made calculations that
required Liters (L) easier as the numbers could be carried without doing any math. This also made the
experiment more accurate. Even though the absolute uncertainty increased so did the volume of the
container, this meant that

29. The Epidemic Of Child Labour
You cannot escape the responsibilities of tomorrow by evading it today
Abraham Lincoln
The prevalence of child labour is a blot on society. It is a national disgrace that millions of children in
this country have to spend a major part of their daily routine in hazardous works. The problem of child
labour in India is the result of traditional attitudes, urbanisation, industrialisation, migration, lack of
education, etc. However, extreme poverty is the main cause of child labour. However, this miracle idea
falls short after identifying the brutal cons that develop along with Child Labour. Youth are weak and
can be susceptible to damage especially with the demanding jobs of a factory. Simply stating, a child
will wilt when put to work with hard tasks that occur in factories. Just imagine how this effect to
continue onto the descendants of this child. The business of Child Labour where children must
succumb to the control of atrocious lifestyles, which, with unstable governments immerse a child in
the hazardous struggle of unsafe workstations, poor wages, and an immeasurable negative affect on its
mind.
One argument used to corrobate the fact that Child Labour had a positive effect on the economy was
the immense change in salary costs from adults to children. The transference between adult wages to
children wages secured a high access rate for the factory and company owners. Children were paid a
wage to support their family. Without a father or mother bringing income,

31. Pressure Mapping
In Behrendt et al (2014) in summary of the article reviewing continuous bedside pressure mapping
(CBPM) devices were studied on the effects of pressure ulcer prevention. It focused on reducing the
number of hospital associated pressure ulcers. Prevention of pressure ulcer is a very important in
nursing, we can provide a better quality life for patients in the hospital. Patient with the CBPM
devices had an occurrence of developing a pressure ulcer in 2 of 213 patients and in patients with no
CBPM the occurrence of developing a pressure ulcer were 10 of 209 patient (Behrendt et al., 2014).
We can see a good change in occurrence between in the two groups, the percentage of a pressure ulcer
occurring on a patient with a CBPM device was at 0.9%. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They evaluate if the skin was at risk for developing pressure ulcers after the patient was repositioned
routinely every 2 hours. Measurement of the pressure points were taken every 30 seconds
continuously (Peterson et al., 2013). The study is relevant to my study as well because they use the
same method as far as pressure mapping as Behrendt et al (2014) but they measured pressure points.
Their study showed that patients are still at risk to develop pressure ulcers when repositioned every 2
hours, some area of the body did not relieve from pressure after repositioning. This means that even
after the patient was repositioned to prevent or reduce the risk of pressure ulcer formation, there are
substantial areas of skin that do not get relieved and remain at risk for pressure ulcers regardless of
routine repositioning by experienced nurses (Peterson et al., 2013). The study was done to reduce
pressure ulcers prevention by revealing that other areas of the skin were still at risk after repositioning
the patient. Further studies would reveal inconsistencies in this study whether or not these triple
jeopardy areas will into pressure ulcers, progress a pressure ulcer or occur at specific tissue location
only, these can be tested by expending the testing time to 24 hours rather than 4 to 6 hours. Expansion
