How Endocrine System Works
How does the Endocrine system work? The function of the endocrine system is to regulate body
activities, similar to the nervous system in that they both regulate body activities. The difference is
that the nervous system uses electrical messengers to send signals to the body, and the endocrine
system uses chemical messengers hormones to make the changes to effect changes within the body.
The endocrine system work together with the nervous system to help control body function and
regulations, including metabolism, nutrition, elimination, temperature, fluid and electrolyte balance,
growth, and reproduction. The endocrine system in our body consists of a number of glands which
make, store, and release chemicals. There are a large number of endocrine glands in the human ...

Key components of the Endocrine System The major glands of the endocrine system are the
hypothalamus, pituitary, thyroid, parathyroid, adrenals, pineal body, and the reproductive organs
(ovaries and testes). The pancreas is also a part of this system. Hypothalamus gland is located in the
brain. The function of the hypothalamus is to regulate production of hormones in the anterior pituitary
gland. Hypothalamus produces releasing and inhibitory hormones. Pituitary gland located just below
the brain secretes a number of hormones. One of the hormones secreted by this gland is human growth
hormone, which controls the growth of the human body. It helps control the development of the bones
and muscles in the body, which explains why there are short people dwarf and tall people giant . When
the body does not produce enough GH the person remains short. On the other hand, when the body
produces too much GH the person becomes very tall. Thyroid gland is in the anterior neck, directly
below the crioid cartilage. Thyroid gland makes a hormone called thyroxin. The function of thyroxine

The Privatization Of Fossil Fuel Reform
For many years, the Government of Indonesia has attempted to scrap fossil fuel subsidies in Indonesia.
However, to this point, these attempts have failed at the implementation stage. This essay will
examine challenges of fossil fuel subsidy reform first by outlining the trials of fossil fuel reform
efforts in Indonesia, including political and economic factors underpinning problems. It will then
discuss the key challenges implementation of these policies entails.
Many developing countries, including Indonesia, have subsidized fossil fuels for decades. This
program was started to help the poor, keeping their cost of living low cost of living for the poor (The
Economist 2014). However, because the people of Indonesia have enjoyed low prices for fossil fuel
for more than 40 years, people are resistant to the idea of raising the fuel prices.
Gus Dur s cabinet decided to raise fossil fuel prices by more than 9 percent in October 2000, and it
resulted in large scale public protests (Beaton Lontoh 2010). It was a risky attempt, because the people
of Indonesia had just passed through a devastating political transition period from the Soeharto era, as
well as dealing with the adverse effects of the Asian monetary crisis during 1997 98. During this
period street riots became a medium for the people to express their disagreement toward certain
policies. People were frustrated, and interest groups took advantage of this phenomenon for their own
political interests.

Charles Marius Barbeau s Ethnography and the Canadian Folklore
Born on 5 March 1883, in Sainte Marie de Bauce, Charles Marius Barbeau is widely seen as the first
Canadian educated anthropologist. He graduated from Université Laval in Québec, from his studies of
law, in 1907; he never practised law. Upon graduating, Marius was awarded as the first French
Canadian recipient the Cecil Rhodes scholarship which allowed him to study at Oxford University
where he was introduced to the emerging field of Anthropology. « Je [voulais] savoir comment l
homme a été créé » he later explained to Marcel Rioux. (Benoît 1959a) During his stay in Europe,
Marius also attended classes at the Sorbonne s École des Hautes Études and at the École ... Show more

But his sometimes contradicting statements require a more precise study, so we will simply present his
main positions, and state some of the opposing points without thoroughly analysing them.
Marcel Mauss whose classes Barbeau attended concludes in a 1902 document on ethnographic
» (Mauss 1902) In the same line of thought, Franz Boas the famous
American anthropologist, also a contemporary of Barbeau stresses the need to focus on collecting
data. He even criticizes social and anthropological theory makers. (See Boas 1920) Barbeau was, at
the beginning of his career, much influenced by these ideas. He collected data on many aboriginal
societies mainly of the Northwest Coast, of Québec and of the North of the USA and later, at the
suggestion of Boas, he started recording folk songs, legends and myths from French Canadians. But
we will see that Barbeau did advance some quite controversial theories later in his career.
This collecting of folkloric data opened Barbeau s eyes to the need to salvage the cultures of Native
and French Canadians alike. « Fortement inspiré par l ethnologie de la

Essay on People Will Do Almost Anything to Lose Weight
Drastic weight loss seems almost impossible to accomplish when one chooses to lose weight naturally.
This is because naturally losing weight takes time in allowing the body to adapt to lifestyle changes
one undergoes in a diet. Losing weight is all a matter of decreasing your calorie intake, consuming
less than you burn. However, some people feel the need to take shortcuts using minimal effort with
great results. Such results would be an effect from stimulants, diet pills, starvation and medical
assistance. Many of these methods that are utilized for losing weight are not advised, but it just
demonstrates that people will do almost anything to lose weight. A huge industry in the United States
is one of the most popular attempts in weight ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bulimia could also be caused by the misuse of laxatives, enemas and diuretics. Bulimics also use
ipecac syrups to induce vomiting for poisonous purposes. Some bulimics have died for using ipecac
syrup on a daily basis. Malnutrition will force the body to drop weight quickly but it is very
ineffective as a way to lose weight. Many people seek for extreme measures with surgical support.
Liposuction is the most common procedure yet others prefer reducing the size of the stomach
restricting the amount of food one can consume. Surgery is a guarantee for removing excess body fat.
Liposuction is a plastic surgery technique removing fats through a suction tube. Other procedures that
is available for weight loss is the Gastric Bypass and the Lapband. Gastric Bypass surgery basically
creates a smaller stomach from the existing one with aid from staples. The lapband seems to be much
more preferable because this method does not require staples. Instead, a band is placed around the
stomach and is able to be removed or easily adjusted. Additionally is a common technique,
Mesotherapy. This method is a non surgical procedure that contains numerous injections into the fat
and tissue underneath the skin. These injections contain medicines, vitamins, and minerals to diminish
cellulite and excess weight. Nothing else is more extreme than surgery. Obese individuals will have to
resort to the proposition to transform their eating habits. Whatever happened to eating properly and

Analysis Of The Love Song Of J Alfred Prufrock
So Maybe It s Not Just An Inferiority Complex.
THESIS: In his poem The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock, T.S. Eliot shows readers that Body
Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) can ruin a man s life and send him into a spiraling pit of anxiety and
depression.
Prufrock s lack of self confidence is actually Body Dysmorphic Disorder, explaining his inability to
see anything but his bald spot and awkward body.
In the room the women come and go / Talking of Michelangelo, (13 14). This is referring to
Michelangelo s David, which portrays an athletic man with strong arms and a beautiful, sculpted face.
Prufrock sees himself as anything but that, so the women talking about this makes him feel even more
self conscious.
With a bald spot in the middle of my hair / (They will say: How his hair is growing thin! ) / My
morning coat, my collar mounting firmly to the chin, / My necktie rich and modest, but asserted by a
simple pin / (They will say: But how his arms and legs are thin! ) (40 44). Prufrock is obsessed with
this bald spot, and it is one of the many things he finds wrong with himself. He hyper focuses on this
very small bodily issue and convinces himself that it s all anyone can see about him, which is a very
common symptom of Body Dysmorphic Disorder.
I have heard the mermaids singing, each to each. / I do not think that they will sing for me. (124 125)
Mermaids (sirens) aren t known for being very picky when it comes to luring in and killing victims, so
for Prufrock to insinuate that even they wouldn t be trying to lure him in really shows how worthless
he sees himself as. He sees this bald spot and skinny limbs and thinks he s absolutely wretched.
Prufrock also has some anxiety which feeds into his BDD.
To lead you to an overwhelming question.... / Oh, do not ask, What is it? (10 11). Here, he expresses
his fear of this question. This unknown problem is a huge source of anxiety for him, and it comes up
multiple times throughout the poem.
And I have known the eyes already, known them all / The eyes that fix you in a formulated phrase, /
And when I am formulated, sprawling on a pin, / When I am pinned and wriggling on the wall, (55

An Organization s Mission And Vision Statements
Balanced scorecards have been around since the 1990 s and was developed by Robert Kaplan and
David Norton (Edwards (2011) and is used by many organizations of all types all over the world, non
profit, for profit, governmental agencies, ect., in order to develop a strategic planning and improve
strategies within their organizational structures. It pertains to many different aspects from financial
aspects, employee retention, and customer satisfaction, internal and external perspectives, to employee
morale, as well as accountability. A balanced scorecard will indicate weaknesses and strengths of all
aspects within an organization such as finances, the business prospective, short and long term goals,
customer satisfaction, knowledgeable concepts, as well as the organization s mission and vision
statements. A balanced scorecard is created to measure the following aspects: perspectives, objectives,
initiatives, and targets all under one organization, but when doing so the organization s mission and
vision statements must be focused on as well. Prior to an organization considering implanting a
balanced scorecard the following should be considered, in order to be effective in there long range
goals and objectives: Is the organization s prepared for the results and determining their weakness and
strengths? Is the organization prepared to act on the results and acting on the results to improve the

Seasons In The Great Gatsby
According to author and keynote speaker Dennis Jones, The lesson for all of us is that we too have
seasons in our lives and each has its purpose... There are times of light and warmth... there are times of
growth and expansion... (2013). Based on his words, it is evident that each of the four seasons brings
about both positive and negative changes that everyone must endure; whether or not these changes are
openly welcomed by their recipients, they cannot be avoided. Instead of ignoring these new events and
changes, it is pivotal that humans and fictional characters alike take advantage of the opportunities
proposed by each of the four seasons. The principles stated in Jones words are directly applicable to

Just as leaves fall off of trees, characters take may experience times in their lives when their health or
relationships fall or slowly decay, which according to Foster s How to Read Literature Like a
Professor, is essentially what fall and winter symbolize decay and death respectively. For instance, in
Nicholas Sparks A Walk to Remember, the life of protagonist Jamie Sullivan, as narrated by antagonist
Landon Carter, comes to an end during the fall and winter seasons. Landon narrates an important
dialogue between Jamie when he says, You can t be in love with me, Landon, she [Jamie] said through
red and swollen eyes. ... Why not? I [Landon] shouted... Because, she finally said softly,... I m dying,
Landon (Sparks 1999). Landon is careful to mention that it is a grayish... cold winter day (Sparks
1999) before he retells the event of Jamie announcing her upcoming death. Jamie s preconceived,
ongoing death relates to idea that fall represents decline, whereas her actual death is symbolized by
winter. Because of her passing, Jamie and Landon s romance comes to an unfortunate conclusion,
again showcasing how the autumn season metaphorically symbolizes decline. Relating to Fitzgerald s
work, Nick narrates Gatsby s death by commenting, Gatsby shouldered the mattress and started for the
pool... and in a moment disappeared among the yellowing trees....

Problem Solution Is A Method For Analyzing And Writing
In composition, problem solution is a method for analyzing and writing about a topic by identifying a
problem and proposing possible solutions. The problem can affect a large group of people in a small
way, or the problem can affect a small group of people in a large way. In a problem solution paper, the
solutions should be new to the reader. To write my research problem solution essay I followed three
steps: researching, writing, and documenting. To start my research process I determined the problem,
and then began researching for solutions. The problem I chose was registration at Normandale, and the
common issue of classes filling up too fast. Once I had my problem, I started researching for
background information on registration, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For my introduction, I started by writing a thesis statement. My thesis statement stated the problem of
class registration at Normandale, and then introduced the four possible solutions; this gave the reader
a brief summary of what to expect. To organize my body paragraphs, I wrote out my first topic
sentence to define the problem, and then followed with four topic sentences for my four solutions.
Finally, I rewrote my thesis so I could restate it in my conclusion. After organizing the introduction,
body paragraphs, and conclusion, I was ready to write my first draft.
The purpose of my introduction was to interest the reader, and give them a brief background on the
essay. The introductory paragraphs consisted of a hook, background information on the problem and
why it is occurring, and then my thesis statement. My essay started with a direct quote I discovered
when researching. I then explained the importance of the quote, and followed with my thesis. Also, I
used correct MLA format when citing the direct quote in my paper. It s important to cite all sources
correctly otherwise it will be penalized as plagiarism. Once my introduction was complete, I began
writing the body paragraphs.
The main purpose of my body paragraphs were to explain and support my thesis. For my body
paragraph on the problem, I made sure to explain the problem of registration, give an example, and
then state who the problem affected. I then started the

Movie Going Essay
1946 was the peak of theater going as a pastime in America. 90 million people a week were going to
the movies creating a box office revenue of $1.7 billion dollars. The invention of television and the
Paramount case in 1948 delivered crucial blows to the industry. By 1957, attendance was down to 40
million viewers per week. Televisions had become common household appliances and people were
watching a lot of it. In 1960, the average household spent 5 hours a day watching television. The film
industry had to adapt and find ways to win back their once loyal fan base. The studios tried multiple
strategies to in an attempt to drive people back to the theaters. The idea was to leverage what cinema
had that television did not. Mainly, that was big screens and color. Movie going was an experience and
that experience needed improving. Many theaters improved their sound systems and leveraged
technologies like CinemaScope and VistaVision to make the screen look even bigger and provide a
more immersive theatrical experience. Unfortunately, this strategy fell short of making an impact and
box office revenue continued to stay very low.
The studios began to realize that instead of viewing television as a direct competitor, maybe there
were ways to form a multi beneficial relationship. The first step toward a more modern ... Show more

Mexicans Are Taking Jobs
Choosing Sitting quietly at a table, pouring over poem after poem, has led to this point. Two are left,
but which to choose. On one hand there is What s That Smell in the Kitchen? by Marge Piercy, but on
the other is So Mexicans Are Taking Jobs from Americans by Jimmy Santiago Baca. The others have
cast their vote one and one; the final judge will make the decision. Although the two poems are both
good poem, only one can be chosen to win. So Mexicans Are Taking Jobs from Americans is a better
poem for three reasons; it addresses a more important issue, the use of a sarcastic anecdote makes it
more sophisticated, and it uses stronger hyperbole. Both poems address important issues, but the

Piercy is overly describing the emotions and desires the woman is feeling to appeal to the reader.
Perhaps the stronger hyperbole in Piercy s piece is comparing the burning of the food to war. Piercy
states that burning dinner is not incompetence but war (22). So Mexicans Are Taking Jobs from
Americans is riddled with hyperbole. To start, Baca utilizes hyperbole in describing the jobs being
stolen. He over exaggerates how Mexicans are doing it, and he simplifies the American response.
Baca also uses hyperbole to describe the murder of America s youth. He states that they never gave the
children an chance to live (41) and that the rich want to let them die (43). The hyperbole in Baca s
piece is stronger for three reasons. First, both Americans and Mexicans relate to it more. Baca uses
specific vocabulary to appeal to Americans such as ese gringo (3) and clean suited farmers (26); both
of which appeal to Americans desire to blame someone other than themselves. Baca also uses specific
imagery to appeal to Mexicans. His description of the American leader and depicting a woman
working all day long in the fields (29) are things that relate to Mexicans. Second, the Hyperbole is
more concrete. Emotions and desires are as fickle as the wind. However jobs and money are typically
concrete and don t change radically. Finally and most importantly, the hyperbole used by Baca, elicits
more emotion than that used by Piercy. While Piercy

Theme Of Butterflies In Lord Of The Flies
Compare and Contrast Essay
The shift in tone and changes in the description of the surrounding environment reveal Simons
character development. The difference in how Jack is describe interacting with his environment,
shows Jacks transition into savagery. William Golding uses complex nature imagery to subtly depict
characters loss of innocence.
Butterflies are often used to reveal big ideas. As an example, Simon description of said wildlife
changes throughout the novel following changes in his personal life. Butterflies go from returning to
their roots, (58) to deserting the open space. (151). The opposing ways that butterflies are mentioned
creates the idea that they symbolize Simon no longer conforming to the group s idea of a submissive
follower. Simon is instead having revelations of his own and choosing to follow a different path.
Simon being comfortable in his own skin and aware that you know what s best for yourself shows a
maturity he previously lacked. In the same manner Jack provides an image of butterflies being too
preoccupied in the clearing to stop dancing.(149). The authors word choice develops the idea of Jacks
savagery because it is eerily similar to the phrase associated with characters killing. Yet again the
butterflies represents Jack. It seems to reveal how Jack is to focused on the pleasure he gets from
taking a life to feel any remorse and stop. Remorse is necessary to prove a person still has trace

The Administrative Principles of Management
The administrative principles of management, created in the early 20th century by French industrialist
Henri Fayol, changed the way that many view management. Fayol s principles focused mainly on the
management teams of businesses and helped establish a top to bottom hierarchal system to produce a
more structured organization (Brunsson, 2008; Yoo, Lemak, Choi, 2008; Fells, 2000). This essay will
focus on four of the 14 key principles of administrative theory unity of command, subordination of
individual interest for the interest of the organization, esprit de corp. and remuneration and analyze
how they have been applied in a leading New Zealand company, Pumpkin Patch Limited (Ltd.)

Although it has been adapted from Fayol s original idea, subordination of individual interest of
general interest, it is still present in Pumpkin Patch Ltd.
In a company that is downsizing, and even when it is not, Esprit de Corp is a principle that plays a
major factor in contemporary organizations today. Esprit de Corp is when a business creates, and
maintains, employee harmony, unity and morale (Fells, 2000; Rodrigues, 2001). This allows for a
happy working environment, and a happy employee means that they are more likely to achieve
productivity and efficiency outcomes. Pumpkin Patch Ltd. has adapted this to fit their family
environment that they feel the company has (Pumpkin Patch Limited, n.d.). The company believes in a
balance between work, leisure and flexibility as well as providing an in house kindergarten for
employees children (Pumpkin Patch Limited, n.d). This, although fairly minor, is a prime example of
how contemporary businesses have adapted one of the founding principles of management and
adapted it to fit their organization. As well as this Pumpkin Patch have organized their business into
teams such as the information technology (IT) team and the design team who are an integral part of
the organization in helping attain their goals and aims ( Brookes, et al., 2008). As Pumpkin Patch has

Claude Mckay Poem
Claude Mckay, 1889 1948 If we must die let it not be like hogs The simile let it not be like hog

since hogs often die a brutal and cruel death this simile motivates the audience to die a righteous

The Theory And Ethics Of Care
Virtue is habit or quality that allows an individual to succeed though a chosen purpose, with the use of
intelligible teleological that accounts to the meaning of human life; which is categorized by the moral
virtues and intellectual virtues. Virtue ethics is known as virtue theory; which is an approach to ethics
that emphasizes an individual s character element through ethical thinking rather than rules about
deontological or consequentialism. It is also said that virtue does not primarily identify universal
principles that can be applied to moral situations, but uses deontological and consequentialist to
identify principles. This theory shows that it is based on an individual rather than actions issues; it
does not only deal with the rightness or wrongness of individual actions, but it provides guidance to
sort characteristics and behaviors in the good of an individual who seeks to achieve rather than fail.
Virtual ethics was revived during the Twentieth Century and is composed of three main directions;
which are eudemonism, agent based theory and ethics of care. Eudemonism is based on human
flourishing of one s distinctive functions to do well. It is a classical formulation of virtue ethics that
shows proper goals of human life to be achieved by a life time of practice in everyday activities and
the use of wisdom to resolve conflict. Agent based theory is the virtues that determine common sense

All But My Life All But My Life is a memoir about a young Jewish girl, Gerda Weissmann, who was
able to endure the hardships of World War II and the Holocaust. Gerda went through and saw more
horrific things in the matter of a few years than any of us will ever have to face in our lifetimes. The
fact that a girl this young and hopeless can withstand so much pain but yet contain so much strength
should be an inspiration to all. Reading this book really opened my eyes to what the world can bring.
After reading Gerda s journey, I will never again complain of times being tough or depressing in my
life. This book really meant a lot to me for that very reason. It is amazing that ... Show more content

Also it was written for those who were unable to survive the Holocaust. For those who will never be
able to share their hard fought journey and are now just another number to total of lives lost during the
Holocaust.
Gerda s long and eventful journey didn t just take place in one location or even just one concentration
camp for that matter. Her journey had several stops along the way and consisted of days and days of
traveling in the harshest conditions. The journey of Gerda s story begins in September of 1939 in her
hometown of Bielitz, Poland (4). Bielitz is where Gerda spent roughly the first sixteen years of her life
(43). In the early summer of 1942 Bielitz is Judenreined which means free of Jews basically. Gerda
and her family are split and to travel in different directions. Gerda is headed toward Sosnowitz, Poland
and gets there in June 1942 (96). From Sosnowitz, Gerda is sent to her first concentration camp in
Bolkenhain, Germany (113). While at Bolkenhain, Gerda worked thread machines day in and day out;
however, all in all the girls were treated pretty well at Bolkenhain compared to other concentration
camps. Gerda would later found out that Bolkenhain was like heaven in comparison to what was to
come. Soon Gerda and the rest of the girls are sent to another concentration camp called Marzdorf in
September of 1943 (145). Marzdorf was nothing like Bolkenhain and was purely miserable for Gerda.
Luckily Gerda doesn t spend a great deal of

Same-Sex Marriage Should be Legalized Essay
So now you see the light, eh!
Stand up for your rights. Come on!
Get up, stand up: stand up for your rights!
Lyrics form the song, Get Up, Stand Up , by Bob Marley Same Sex Marriage should be legalized in
the United States. There are over 1,049 federal rights and also over 300 state rights (depending on
what state) that couples receive when they become offical married of many of which are denied to

Some of the inequalities that the institution of civil union have to face are that other states do not have
to reconize that the gay couple are in a civil union and ,therefore, legal strangers.
Civil unions also have to face the facts that they lose about over 1300 marital rights that, in
comparison, people in civil marriages receive. At all times any where, the 1,049 federal rights for
married couples apply to all states, where the state also has its own 300 or so rights that they apply to
only people married under regular circumstances. This means that, if the state chooses, they can deny
people in civil unions the right even to accompany their loved ones in the ambulance or even not
being able to sue for a loved ones wrongful death. An example of this is a loss of consortium. A loss of
consortium is a suit where the plaintiff sues because his or her spouse cannot provide emotional,
physical, financial, or even sexual support. The Sharon Smith case occured in Jan of 2001, where a
dog brutally attacked Sharon s spouse, Diane, and killed her. Sharon could not sue because in the state

Analysis of the Movie Out of the Past
The movie Out of the Past directed by Jacques Tourneur fits within the traditions of film noir because
it has some similar themes associated with it, such as doomed love. Robert Mitchum plays the
doomed, double crossed , ex private eye as Jeff Markham. The femme fatale is played by Jane Greer
as Kathie Moffat, who is trying to escape her future. Kirk Douglas as Whit Sterling plays the ruthless
gangster czar in the film. The formal cinematic elements in the movie are used to vividly describe the
movie. You can see that the lighting is very shadowy and dark. The composition of the film leaves the
audience feeling trapped within Jeff s problems. For example, when Jeff starts his journey from
Mexico to San Francisco we the audience start to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, throughout the film shadow s are splashed over Jeff like a deadly visual benediction, showing
doomed fate. Flashback Analysis Throughout the movie Jeff tells us the story through the flashback.
He is telling his flashback to Ann, a girl he s in love with. The time period is set three years back and
is narrated by Jeff. The flashback is the backbone of the movie because it shows the audience how the
whole situation started and ended. Over half the movie is told through the flashback which is
important because it shows that the character chooses to focus on the past instead of the present. The
flashback is told because Jeff is going to Lake Tahoe to handle some unfinished business and he
decides to let Ann in on the truth. Jeff was working for Whit and was assigned to find the girl who
stole Whit s money. The flashback goes into great detail throughout the whole situation. The theme
passion is shown when Jeff meets up with Kathie. Soon enough he forgets all about getting the forty
grand and returning Kathie to Whit. Jeff fell for Kathie so they ran away to San Francisco. The
characters in the flashback are shown to be a litte edgy. Fore example, when Kathie first meets Jeff,
she plays hard to get, pretending she is uninterested in him. On the other hand, Jeff plays it smooth
and doesn t let it faze him. The whole flashback sets us up for the ending and

Marketing Australia for the Commonwealth Games
As a part of the marketing team for the commonwealth games hosted in Glasgow in 2014, I have
decided to market in Australia. I have chosen Australia, on account of them winning the event 11
times. Personally, I think they will have a larger a fan base due to the fact they are favourites of
winning the event once again. Another reason to why I chose Australia is by virtue of them having a
longstanding relationship with Scotland. In 2011 a census was carried out and 103,204 citizens where
Scottish Australians and 1,792,600 claimed Scottish ancestry (National Records of Scotland, 2011).
Statistics listed in the above will make it more inviting for tourist from Australia to come and watch
the Commonwealth games.
PEST Analysis
POLITICAL
The UK Government (Scotland wise) have a strong tie with the Australian Government. VISA
processes will be easier to obtain, even though Australia is not in the EU. There is an Australian
consulate within Edinburgh. Therefore, families can help other family members back in Australia to
attain the UK Visa. In Australia, the Scottish embassy can be located in Sydney, Canberra and Perth.
As part of my marketing plan, handing out brochures and flyers about the commonwealth games in
Scotland inside all the Consulates and Embassies regarding Scotland and Australia will be incredibly
beneficial in receiving more tourists for the event. A contract stating that during the Commonwealth
games VISA s should not be longer than a month, in order to avoid

The French Revolution And Its Effect On British Political...
What, if anything, was achieved by extra parliamentary protest in the years 1790 1819?
Radicalism was alive in Britain from the late eighteenth century, yet Parliament resolutely refused to
reform itself until the late 1830s. It is therefore tempting to dismiss extra parliamentary protest during
this period as having failed to bring about any substantial reform in the face of Government
repression.
The French Revolution had a dramatic impact on British political life from the onset of its eruption in
1789.
In November 1790, Edmund Burke published Reflections on the Revolution in France . Burke was not
opposed to reform but he defended Britain s existing constitution on the grounds that it had grown
organically out of Britain s unique history. In his book he maintained that government derived its
authority from custom and tradition, not from the consent of the governed. He celebrated the rule of
the monarchy and aristocracy, feeling that moderate reform would lead to violent revolution similar to
that in France and so the system had to be defended to protect it from destruction.
On the other hand, many people were excited by the events taking place in France. By far the most
influential response to Burke s book was Thomas Paine s The Rights of Man (first published in 1791)
in which he laid out the ideological basis for republican reform. In the first volume he applauded the
changes in France and dismissed Burke s insistence on the need to follow tradition, instead

Edgar Allan Poe Alone
Have you ever wondered what it s like to lose your entire family? In the poem Alone written by Edgar
Allan Poe, it tells a story about an adult looking back on his childhood. This poem is a real reflection
of Poe s life and experiences, when he was younger, he lost pretty much his entire family like his
parents, his foster mother and wife died and he was raised by a stern man who was angry about Poe
writing poetry, which as a result he became isolated and secluded. Poe was an American writer and is
best known for his poetry and short stories. The main themes in the poem are isolation and depression.
It can relate to today s youth by being illustrated of one s solitude in general.

This poem has used effective techniques and used themes such as depression and isolation, that most
people forget that it is a big issue. We all need to educate ourselves about depression, it has reached
epidemic proportions and we need to be more aware of the possibility that we may know someone
who is suffering from depression. I hope we can find something that helps and guides us to know the
correct things to say, rather than focusing only on what not to say to someone suffering from this
serious illness, such as helping Poe with his depression. In the end Poe still haven t found what he was
searching for, time has passed and his life will still remain a mystery. He believes something is
preventing him to find it, and that is in the form of a cloud that is standing in the way of him, like a
demon. The poem Alone questions why we are born and what paths we should take as we search for
the mystery of our lives, this is an example that senior students should

Theme Of Love In Shakespeare s Sonnets
Shakespeare, who wrote the sonnets in 1609, expresses his own feelings through his greatest work of
literature. The theme of love in the poems reflect thoughts from the Renaissance period. Love is one
of many components of Shakespeare s life shown in the sonnets. Love can be defined in many ways
other than a strong affection for a lover. In Shakespeare s sonnets, the concept of love can be seen
through many uncommon means such as the love of life before death in Sonnet 73, love in marriage in
Sonnet 116, love through sexual desire in Sonnet 129, and love through nature in Sonnet 130, proving
that love can be expressed through many different feelings and emotions.
In Sonnet 73 , Shakespeare shows the reader how love is portrayed before death. Sonnet 73 portrays a
man s old age and approaching death. The process in which the poem flows helps to describe the man.
It narrows down from year to day to show proximity of when the man will one day leave his lover
(Hammond 137 138). For example, Shakespeare shows the reader how love is tested by time, but the
man shows no weakness: This thou perceiv st, which makes thy love more strong, To love that well
which thou must leave ere long (Hammond 137). The man knows he is dying soon and will never see
the young man again. His love intensifies for the young man. Also, Shakespeare gives the reader
comparisons to the time of day and seasons to show how the love was portrayed:
The poem opens by stating that his lover must behold him at the time of life corresponding to late
autumn, when almost no leaves remain on the trees and the birds have flown south. The poet s calling
attention to his old age might seem incongruous, since many lovers might try to hide the fact from
their companions. Yet, in this relationship, William Shakespeare not only is being forthright but also
seems to be seeking the sympathy of his dear friend. (Lord 3569)
The whole first part of the poem shifts in the time of year, and in the final couplet of Shakespeare s
work, it requests that his friend should love stronger because of the decreasing time the man has left
on earth. A separation will occur when the man dies, and the lover will have to leave him. The man s
realization of

organized, dissenting group within a larger one in politics. Madison believes factions cause problems
among other different factions because they the majority always wins. If Madison were alive today, he
would see both political parties as factions. He would also view different unions and organizations as
factions. In general, Madison would see any group which shares a common interest and works
together to promote their community as a faction. Madison also explores the causes and sources of
factions in his essay. He states that the causes of a faction can be regarded to the nature of men. This is

Ernest Hemingway Feminism
Ernest Hemingway is a male author of fictional stories whose work has been controversial regarding
the way he portrays women. This paper will explain how feminist scholars view Ernest Hemingway s
fictional stories and why. The way female scholars view Hemingway s stories are important because
readers have criticized Hemingway for use stereotyping women in his work and others have enjoyed
his work. Therefore, it is important to learn about the different view female scholars have on his
fiction. Lawrence Broer and Gloria Holland of The University of Alabama argue that Hemingway has
an inability to portray women as independent, strong and sympathetic, therefore why should women
continue to read, teach and write about his work (Broer, Holland 7). In contrast Margaret Bauer
proposes that the problem critics have with Hemingway s female characters is not that they are one
dimensional, but that they are not the central characters (Bauer 126). Throughout this paper short
stories by Hemingway like Indian Camp, Hills Like White Elephants, The Sun Also Rises, A Farewell
to Arms, For Whom the Bell Tolls, Cat in Rain and The Last Good Country. Throughout the research
studies have shown that female scholars criticize Ernest Hemingway s stories passed on prior
knowledge to what they have heard about him. However, other scholars read Hemingway s work with
an open mind and make their interpretations afterward. The research has shown both negative and
positive responses to Hemingway s

Wheelchairs, canes, crutches all these devices help an individual maneuver around after certain
injuries or complications make life harder for them. Although full mobility with these devices isn t

these people, they still have to work and make a life for themselves. Due to the fact that many diseases
are incurable they have to find ways to cope with their disabilities. Having less maneuverability calls
for things such as designated areas for the disabled on Public busses or ergonomic seats that can work
on both the disabled in a general situation, and the typical passenger. These things need to be
implemented on Metro busses in the Los Angeles Region because roughly 1.3 million riders have a

My Options for the Sports Brand Sponsors
Marketing Sponsor
Sponsors support organizations or events financially, and in return, they ask the organizations to
advertise their logo. It is up to the organization to find different ways, through which they can
advertise the brand. The sports franchise I work for, wants me to find sponsors and the way those
sponsors should advertise. Following is the information related to the current brand, which is
sponsoring the company and three more brands which I have found for the franchise and the ways in
which their logos are going to be advertised.
Current Sponsors and how they are used
The current sponsors, which the sports franchise has is Sky Sports; Sky Sports is a famous sports
channel, where matches of different sports are shown. The current way in which the logo of Sky
Sports is being displayed is through T shirts. Every athlete wears a shirt, on which the logo of Sky
Sports is printed. As sports events are shown on national or international television, the logos are seen
by everyone, who watches the sports event. Moreover, when athletes are called for interviews, they
usually wear their sports jerseys, on which the logo of Star Sports is displayed, giving more exposure
to the brand.
First Sponsor
The first brand which I would approach to sponsor the sports franchise is XBOX; XBOX has captured
the attention of a vast audience, as it is fun for the children and the young. The way through which the
sponsor logo of XBOX would be used is through an application of XBOX, on

Stratovolcano and Shield volcanos are naturally occurring ruptures in the earth s crust. They have been
a part of our history for nearly 6,000 years and some say that they have been around longer than

Mount Saint Helens, located in the Cascade Volcanic Arc, is known to be one of the most deadliest

I Am A Middle School Special Education Teacher
Topic Choice I am a middle school special education teacher in a 1:8 resource classroom. I give
specialized math instruction to two sixth grade classes, two seventh grade classes, and two eighth
grade classes. The majority of my students perform between a kindergarten and second grade level.
The exhibited math achievement gap across my classes is disturbing. Even though my students are
identified as special needs, they should have made gains to their ability levels by middle school. Math
skills are necessary skills. Math is everywhere. Students need to learn basic math skills, at minimum,
to be successful in life. After learning basic math skills, they should be exposed to and encouraged to
learn more complex math skills. This will only increase their chances of success. Mathematics are all
around us. It is present in different forms whenever we pick up the phone, play games, manage our
money, travel to some place, play sports, meet new friends; unintentionally in all these things
mathematics are involved (Sumisha, 2012) . To learn math properly, skills should be taught in a
scaffolded manner. Basic math skills should be taught and then built upon, with complex math skills
being the teaching goal. With the incorporation of technology, which is engaging to students, students
will likely learn and be able to independently use more math concepts. The purpose of scaffolding

Andrew Still s Osteopathic Paper
The son of a doctor and a pastor, Andrew Still (1828 1917) believed that the human being was the
perfect being, of divine origin. This belief went on to be a key component for the basis of his research
in the establishment of osteopathy. Dr. Still believed that the medical treatments and practices
available to him at the time were highly unorthodox, ineffective and that they had the potential to be
harmful. In 1864 shortly after the conclusion of the civil war, Still lost his 3 children due to spinal
meningitis and it was this incident that further fortified Still to seek an alternative way of treatment.
Dr. Still went on to spend the next 10 years of his life analysing and examining the human body
exploring alternate ways to treat pain and disease. In addition to Still theorising his own ... Show more

Still s research and analysis led him to the conclusion that the muskoskeletal system played a vital role
in one s individual health, moreover that a properly aligned muskoskeletal system was the explanation
for good health. With this information Still had realised the relationship between structure and
function and he theorised that the disease process arises when the flow of life is interrupted (Still,
1908). Thereafter Still formulated a hands on approach to treatment; now commonly known as
osteopathic manual therapy (OMM). This non invasive treatment method was believed by Still to cure
disease, treat pain and re establish flow within the body. Rather than just focusing on the
manifestations of injury or illness in a patient, Still would instead seek to explore and understand the
cause. You wonder what Osteopathy is; you look in the medical dictionary and find as its definition
bone disease. That is a grave mistake. It is compounded of two words, osteon, meaning bone, pathos,
pathine, to suffer. Greek lexicographers say it is a proper name for a science founded on a knowledge
of bones. So instead of bone disease it really means usage. (Still, 1987,

Some of the causes of world war one are imperialism, militarism, nationalism, and alliances.
Imperialism is when one country rules over another through establishment of colonies. Imperialism
resulted from Industrialization, which was needed for raw goods and markets for manufactured goods.
The countries fought with each other over colonies. Militarism was used for building a strong military
and in order for that country to have its interests dominate the government. In the past, war was seen
as something that was acceptable to solve conflicts and enhance a country. Some examples of
imperialism include: naval arms race between Great Britain and Germany. Nationalism is a strong
feeling of loyalty and protection of culture and need of ethnic group to have a country that is their
own. Alliances are countries that form cooperative groups in order to protect everyone s interests.
However, the most significant cause of world war one was industrialization, which had fueled
imperialism, and Nationalism. Together they both caused three factors that led to war: German
unification, territorial rivalries, and economic competition.
The Great powers were prepared to participate in the war because in the 15th century, some European
nations were expanding their territory forcefully. Countries that were powerful used imperialism by
creating colonies all over the world in order to create empires. They used the land and resources of the
nations that were weak and controlled by the great

prospects of most airlines. Our study focuses on the stock market s perception of the viability of low
cost versus full service business models in the aftermath of 9/11. We choose Southwest Airlines as a

Lawton (2003) advances the argument that low cost carriers (LCCs) were in a position to go on the
offensive and aggressively exploit the changed industry climate after 9/11 by renegotiating labour
contracts, by negotiating lower prices for new airplanes in what had suddenly become a buyer s
market for new aircraft, and by pursuing aggressive pricing strategies to increase their market share
relative to legacy carriers. Legacy carriers, being exposed to a significantly higher overhead burden,
were forced into defensive strategies that provided them with little operational flexibility. These
developments are difficult to observe in the airlines accounting figures in the short term, but if they are
perceived to change a firm s future cash flows they should be reflected in the market s valuation of the
firm s stock.
When investigating the impact that the events of 9/11 had on each airline s risk, we consider both the
systematic and unsystematic volatility of the stocks returns. This allows us to differentiate between
risk factors that affected the market as a whole and risk factors that affected the firms specifically.
Although we employ only a small sample, our results are highly consistent.2 We observe that
Southwest performed significantly better after 9/11 than its mainstream competitors

The Aztec Culture of Sacrifice
Introduction The concept of sacrifice is a fundamental basis of almost every religion. However, its
manifestation in the form of human sacrifice is both more controversial and, as a result, rarely studied
by anthropologists today. As one scholar observes: The modern social anthropologist does not best
endear himself to the elite of the Third World by an obsessive interest in how great grandfather shrunk
the heads he hunted or in the quality of the wood needed to burn great grandmother alive (Davies,
1981, p.13).
While one may question the sense of humour evident here and even its implication of a racist subtext
it must be acknowledged that the role of human sacrifice in the history of religious practices is seldom
addressed. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
86)? In order to interrogate these two theories of ritual sacrifice, the practice of human sacrifice must
be examined in a situation and on a scale where there can be no doubt of its significance within a
culture. In this regard, no better example of human sacrifice as a culture wide religious practice may
be found than the case of the Aztec civilization.
Human Sacrifice (b) Practice The Aztecs, it is believed, originated as a poor nomadic tribe from a
place in western Mexico they called Aztlan sometime in the 1300s. They probably never used the term
Aztec in reference to themselves, and were commonly known as Mexica . They moved into the Valley
of Mexico as squatters, and began making enemies of the more civilized peoples already living there
as a result of the Aztec taste for violence and human sacrifice (Coe, 1984, p.145 6). The Aztecs were,
in the words of one historian, despised by all (Weaver, 1972, p.239) neighbouring peoples for their
placing physical violence and bloodlust at the centre of their culture. For example, while their skill in
fighting led to their being employed as mercenaries, on one infamous occasion their chief was offered
the daughter of the King who currently employed the tribe. When the King arrived for the marriage
ceremony, he was confronted instead by a priest dancing about in his daughter s skin (Weaver, 1972,

Redefining Gender Roles Of A Streetcar Named Desire
Oscar Madera
Dr. Amaya Anderson
ENGL 103
8 May 2016
Dissecting Gender Roles in A Streetcar Named Desire The representation of gender roles is among the
most prominent recurring subjects in theatre, literature and expressive art as we know it. Gender, and
what it means to human beings, is a subject that is as difficult to precisely define as death, race, and
the concept of existence. Anne Beall, Ph.D. graduate in Social Psychology at Yale University, details
in her book The Psychology of Gender that Gender is socially defined masculinity and femininity.
Social psychology studies how gender is defined, created, and maintained through social influence,
especially in the course of social interaction (Beall; 10). The nature of gender roles is ultimately
dictated by temporal, societal, biological and even geographical dimensions that are out of our control
and though it is a given that gender as a concept has kept as relevant as it is ancient, there has only
been under a hundred years of significant progress or general awareness on the matter. The subject
matter of important art in any given time period is a reflection of that society s most urgent struggles
and the topic of gender has remained a constant across human history. The physical and emotional
features of characters in art and literature are manifestations of the creator s perception on subjects
such race and gender. The message that a creator seeks to deliver on a topic, determines how they will
convey the thoughts,

Abstract
Rainfall induced landslide hazards in Kenya represents a major challenge and remain an important
issue in disaster management especially in Kenya s central province region where the effects are very
common with the onset of El nin ̃o rains. The main aim of this study is to develop a rainfall induced
landslide probability map for Kenya s central province. In order to achieve this, process based
methods were used to map landslide areas using the following factors: slope, rainfall, land cover
change,Normalized DifferenceVegetation Index (NDVI)change, Curvature, watershed, and soil
characteristic including: type, texture, soil bulk density, Base Saturation, and Total Water Available
Distribution Map. The minimum conditions were set for each factor for landslide occurrence. Slope
stability mapping was done to determine the stable areas and thus derive the probability of landslide
occurrence. Statistical methods were then employed by means of weights of evidence to achieve the
probability weights for each factor considered to cause landslides. The factors were then overlaid
using the probability

A Wrinkle Through Time Is The Story Of Meg Murry
A Wrinkle In Time is the story of Meg Murry, a high school girl who goes on an adventure between
dimensions with her younger brother Charles Wallace and friend Calvin to save her father from the
evil forces that hold him prisoner on another planet. These evil forces are known as IT, and strive to
create uniformity and obedience without any resistance. At the end of the book the children have
saved Mr. Murry from imprisonment on Camazotz, but Charles Wallace was taken over by IT, the one
who had Mr. Murry, and was left behind. Meg is forced to go back to Camazotz alone to save her
brother, using something that she has the IT can t fight. Using her immense love for her brother she
frees him from the control of IT and all four of them make it home safely. I personally would have
prefered a more tragic ending, so that s exactly what I m going to be writing here. My ending diverges
from the original plot line after Meg lands on Camazotz alone to save Charles Wallace: Meg was
standing breathlessly on the same hill that she had landed on the first time she came to Camazotz. She
looked around, and after realizing that she was truly alone, felt dread pool in her stomach. The
unforgettable voice of Mrs. Which still echoed in her ears. Mmyy ggifftt fforr yyou iss yyourr onlly

  • 2. How Endocrine System Works How does the Endocrine system work? The function of the endocrine system is to regulate body activities, similar to the nervous system in that they both regulate body activities. The difference is that the nervous system uses electrical messengers to send signals to the body, and the endocrine system uses chemical messengers hormones to make the changes to effect changes within the body. The endocrine system work together with the nervous system to help control body function and regulations, including metabolism, nutrition, elimination, temperature, fluid and electrolyte balance, growth, and reproduction. Hypothalamus produces releasing and inhibitory hormones. Pituitary gland located just below the brain secretes a number of hormones. One of the hormones secreted by this gland is human growth hormone, which controls the growth of the human body. • 3. The Privatization Of Fossil Fuel Reform For many years, the Government of Indonesia has attempted to scrap fossil fuel subsidies in Indonesia. However, to this point, these attempts have failed at the implementation stage. This essay will examine challenges of fossil fuel subsidy reform first by outlining the trials of fossil fuel reform efforts in Indonesia, including political and economic factors underpinning problems. It will then discuss the key challenges implementation of these policies entails. Many developing countries, including Indonesia, have subsidized fossil fuels for decades. This program was started to help the poor, keeping their cost of living low cost of living for the poor (The Economist 2014). However, because the people of Indonesia have enjoyed low prices for fossil fuel for more than 40 years, people are resistant to the idea of raising the fuel prices. Gus Dur s cabinet decided to raise fossil fuel prices by more than 9 percent in October 2000, and it resulted in large scale public protests (Beaton Lontoh 2010). It was a risky attempt, because the people of Indonesia had just passed through a devastating political transition period from the Soeharto era, as well as dealing with the adverse effects of the Asian monetary crisis during 1997 98. During this period street riots became a medium for the people to express their disagreement toward certain policies. People were frustrated, and interest groups took advantage of this phenomenon for their own political interests. To this day ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Charles Marius Barbeau s Ethnography and the Canadian Folklore Born on 5 March 1883, in Sainte Marie de Bauce, Charles Marius Barbeau is widely seen as the first Canadian educated anthropologist. He graduated from Université Laval in Québec, from his studies of law, in 1907; he never practised law. Upon graduating, Marius was awarded as the first French Canadian recipient the Cecil Rhodes scholarship which allowed him to study at Oxford University where he was introduced to the emerging field of Anthropology. « Je [voulais] savoir comment l homme a été créé » he later explained to Marcel Rioux. But his sometimes contradicting statements require a more precise study, so we will simply present his main positions, and state some of the opposing points without thoroughly analysing them. » (Mauss 1902) In the same line of thought, Franz Boas the famous American anthropologist, also a contemporary of Barbeau stresses the need to focus on collecting data. He even criticizes social and anthropological theory makers. (See Boas 1920) Barbeau was, at the beginning of his career, much influenced by these ideas. He collected data on many aboriginal societies mainly of the Northwest Coast, of Québec and of the North of the USA and later, at the suggestion of Boas, he started recording folk songs, legends and myths from French Canadians. But we will see that Barbeau did advance some quite controversial theories later in his career. This collecting of folkloric data opened Barbeau s eyes to the need to salvage the cultures of Native and French Canadians alike. « Fortement inspiré par l ethnologie de la ... Eliot shows readers that Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) can ruin a man s life and send him into a spiraling pit of anxiety and depression. Prufrock s lack of self confidence is actually Body Dysmorphic Disorder, explaining his inability to see anything but his bald spot and awkward body. In the room the women come and go / Talking of Michelangelo, (13 14). This is referring to Michelangelo s David, which portrays an athletic man with strong arms and a beautiful, sculpted face. Prufrock sees himself as anything but that, so the women talking about this makes him feel even more self conscious. Prufrock is obsessed with this bald spot, and it is one of the many things he finds wrong with himself. He hyper focuses on this very small bodily issue and convinces himself that it s all anyone can see about him, which is a very common symptom of Body Dysmorphic Disorder. I have heard the mermaids singing, each to each. / I do not think that they will sing for me. (124 125) Mermaids (sirens) aren t known for being very picky when it comes to luring in and killing victims, so for Prufrock to insinuate that even they wouldn t be trying to lure him in really shows how worthless he sees himself as. He sees this bald spot and skinny limbs and thinks he s absolutely wretched. Prufrock also has some anxiety which feeds into his BDD. This unknown problem is a huge source of anxiety for him, and it comes up multiple times throughout the poem. The invention of television and the Paramount case in 1948 delivered crucial blows to the industry. By 1957, attendance was down to 40 million viewers per week. Televisions had become common household appliances and people were watching a lot of it. In 1960, the average household spent 5 hours a day watching television. To start, Baca utilizes hyperbole in describing the jobs being stolen. He over exaggerates how Mexicans are doing it, and he simplifies the American response. Baca also uses hyperbole to describe the murder of America s youth. He states that they never gave the children an chance to live (41) and that the rich want to let them die (43). The hyperbole in Baca s piece is stronger for three reasons. First, both Americans and Mexicans relate to it more. Baca uses specific vocabulary to appeal to Americans such as ese gringo (3) and clean suited farmers (26); both of which appeal to Americans desire to blame someone other than themselves. Baca also uses specific imagery to appeal to Mexicans. His description of the American leader and depicting a woman working all day long in the fields (29) are things that relate to Mexicans. The Theory And Ethics Of Care Virtue is habit or quality that allows an individual to succeed though a chosen purpose, with the use of intelligible teleological that accounts to the meaning of human life; which is categorized by the moral virtues and intellectual virtues. Virtue ethics is known as virtue theory; which is an approach to ethics that emphasizes an individual s character element through ethical thinking rather than rules about deontological or consequentialism. It is also said that virtue does not primarily identify universal principles that can be applied to moral situations, but uses deontological and consequentialist to identify principles. This theory shows that it is based on an individual rather than actions issues; it does not only deal with the rightness or wrongness of individual actions, but it provides guidance to sort characteristics and behaviors in the good of an individual who seeks to achieve rather than fail. Virtual ethics was revived during the Twentieth Century and is composed of three main directions; which are eudemonism, agent based theory and ethics of care. Eudemonism is based on human flourishing of one s distinctive functions to do well. It is a classical formulation of virtue ethics that shows proper goals of human life to be achieved by a life time of practice in everyday activities and the use of wisdom to resolve conflict. Analysis of the Movie Out of the Past The movie Out of the Past directed by Jacques Tourneur fits within the traditions of film noir because it has some similar themes associated with it, such as doomed love. Kirk Douglas as Whit Sterling plays the ruthless gangster czar in the film. The formal cinematic elements in the movie are used to vividly describe the movie. He is telling his flashback to Ann, a girl he s in love with. The time period is set three years back and is narrated by Jeff. The flashback is the backbone of the movie because it shows the audience how the whole situation started and ended. Over half the movie is told through the flashback which is important because it shows that the character chooses to focus on the past instead of the present. The flashback is told because Jeff is going to Lake Tahoe to handle some unfinished business and he decides to let Ann in on the truth. Jeff was working for Whit and was assigned to find the girl who stole Whit s money. The flashback goes into great detail throughout the whole situation. The theme passion is shown when Jeff meets up with Kathie. Soon enough he forgets all about getting the forty grand and returning Kathie to Whit. Jeff fell for Kathie so they ran away to San Francisco. The characters in the flashback are shown to be a litte edgy. I have chosen Australia, on account of them winning the event 11 times. Personally, I think they will have a larger a fan base due to the fact they are favourites of winning the event once again. Another reason to why I chose Australia is by virtue of them having a longstanding relationship with Scotland. In 2011 a census was carried out and 103,204 citizens where Scottish Australians and 1,792,600 claimed Scottish ancestry (National Records of Scotland, 2011). Statistics listed in the above will make it more inviting for tourist from Australia to come and watch the Commonwealth games. PEST Analysis POLITICAL The UK Government (Scotland wise) have a strong tie with the Australian Government. VISA processes will be easier to obtain, even though Australia is not in the EU. There is an Australian consulate within Edinburgh. Therefore, families can help other family members back in Australia to attain the UK Visa. In Australia, the Scottish embassy can be located in Sydney, Canberra and Perth. As part of my marketing plan, handing out brochures and flyers about the commonwealth games in Scotland inside all the Consulates and Embassies regarding Scotland and Australia will be incredibly beneficial in receiving more tourists for the event. • 24. The French Revolution And Its Effect On British Political... What, if anything, was achieved by extra parliamentary protest in the years 1790 1819? Radicalism was alive in Britain from the late eighteenth century, yet Parliament resolutely refused to reform itself until the late 1830s. It is therefore tempting to dismiss extra parliamentary protest during this period as having failed to bring about any substantial reform in the face of Government repression. The French Revolution had a dramatic impact on British political life from the onset of its eruption in 1789. In November 1790, Edmund Burke published Reflections on the Revolution in France . Burke was not opposed to reform but he defended Britain s existing constitution on the grounds that it had grown organically out of Britain s unique history. In his book he maintained that government derived its authority from custom and tradition, not from the consent of the governed. He celebrated the rule of the monarchy and aristocracy, feeling that moderate reform would lead to violent revolution similar to that in France and so the system had to be defended to protect it from destruction. On the other hand, many people were excited by the events taking place in France. By far the most influential response to Burke s book was Thomas Paine s The Rights of Man (first published in 1791) in which he laid out the ideological basis for republican reform. In the first volume he applauded the changes in France and dismissed Burke s insistence on the need to follow tradition, instead ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 26. Theme Of Love In Shakespeare s Sonnets Shakespeare, who wrote the sonnets in 1609, expresses his own feelings through his greatest work of literature. The theme of love in the poems reflect thoughts from the Renaissance period. Love is one of many components of Shakespeare s life shown in the sonnets. Love can be defined in many ways other than a strong affection for a lover. In Shakespeare s sonnets, the concept of love can be seen through many uncommon means such as the love of life before death in Sonnet 73, love in marriage in Sonnet 116, love through sexual desire in Sonnet 129, and love through nature in Sonnet 130, proving that love can be expressed through many different feelings and emotions. In Sonnet 73 , Shakespeare shows the reader how love is portrayed before death. Sonnet 73 portrays a man s old age and approaching death. The process in which the poem flows helps to describe the man. It narrows down from year to day to show proximity of when the man will one day leave his lover (Hammond 137 138). For example, Shakespeare shows the reader how love is tested by time, but the man shows no weakness: This thou perceiv st, which makes thy love more strong, To love that well which thou must leave ere long (Hammond 137). The man knows he is dying soon and will never see the young man again. His love intensifies for the young man. Also, Shakespeare gives the reader comparisons to the time of day and seasons to show how the love was portrayed: The poem opens by stating that his lover must behold him at the time of life corresponding to late autumn, when almost no leaves remain on the trees and the birds have flown south. The poet s calling attention to his old age might seem incongruous, since many lovers might try to hide the fact from their companions. Yet, in this relationship, William Shakespeare not only is being forthright but also seems to be seeking the sympathy of his dear friend. (Lord 3569) The whole first part of the poem shifts in the time of year, and in the final couplet of Shakespeare s work, it requests that his friend should love stronger because of the decreasing time the man has left on earth. A separation will occur when the man dies, and the lover will have to leave him. The man s realization of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This paper will explain how feminist scholars view Ernest Hemingway s fictional stories and why. The way female scholars view Hemingway s stories are important because readers have criticized Hemingway for use stereotyping women in his work and others have enjoyed his work. Therefore, it is important to learn about the different view female scholars have on his fiction. Lawrence Broer and Gloria Holland of The University of Alabama argue that Hemingway has an inability to portray women as independent, strong and sympathetic, therefore why should women continue to read, teach and write about his work (Broer, Holland 7). In contrast Margaret Bauer proposes that the problem critics have with Hemingway s female characters is not that they are one dimensional, but that they are not the central characters (Bauer 126). Dr. Still believed that the medical treatments and practices available to him at the time were highly unorthodox, ineffective and that they had the potential to be harmful. In 1864 shortly after the conclusion of the civil war, Still lost his 3 children due to spinal meningitis and it was this incident that further fortified Still to seek an alternative way of treatment. Militarism was used for building a strong military and in order for that country to have its interests dominate the government. The Origination Of Hip Hop The Origination of Hip Hop Laresia Parks English III, Period 05 2 December 2015 Hip hop finds its ethnic origins in Jamaican music and DJs in the seventies who used two turntables to create longer drum breaks in records for dance parties giving rise to break dancing and break dancers now known as b boys and b girls (A Closer Look At a New Hip Hop Movement). DJs and MCs popularized the technique of speaking over beats and the culture expanded to include street dance and graffiti art. Embraced by working class urban and young African Americans, the music stems from African American forms of music including jazz, soul, gospel, and reggae. Background Afrika Bambaataa basically is The One , says Jeff Chang, hip hop historian and author of the book Can t Stop Won t Stop. Bambaataa s role was carrying the gospel of hip hop. He came of age in the South Bronx during the 1970s and used his charisma to rise to the rank of warlord in a local gang called Black Spades. After traveling to Africa, he decided to borrow a motto from an earlier decade: wage love, not war. He decided to use his influence to turn the Black Spades into a peaceful organization called the Zulu Nation. Bambaataa had this vision of hip hop as a force for social change, says Chang. He had the history and street credibility to make this narrative acceptable to even the hardest of hard heads... He was the guy who articulated that hip hop could be a cultural movement. • 40. The Financial Performance of Low-Cost and Full-Service... The Financial Performance of Low Cost and Full Service Airlines in Times of Crisis Triant Flouris, Thomas John Walker. Canadian Journal of Administrative Sciences. Halifax: Mar 2005. Vol. 22, Iss. 1; pg. 3, 18 pgs Abstract This paper examines the stock and accounting performance of three major airlines in the United States in the aftermath of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. September 11 (9/11) resulted in dramatic changes in the airline industry and had significant implications for the economic gains and future prospects of most airlines. Our study focuses on the stock market s perception of the viability of low cost versus full service business models in the aftermath of 9/11. We choose Southwest Airlines as a typical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lawton (2003) advances the argument that low cost carriers (LCCs) were in a position to go on the offensive and aggressively exploit the changed industry climate after 9/11 by renegotiating labour contracts, by negotiating lower prices for new airplanes in what had suddenly become a buyer s market for new aircraft, and by pursuing aggressive pricing strategies to increase their market share relative to legacy carriers. Legacy carriers, being exposed to a significantly higher overhead burden, were forced into defensive strategies that provided them with little operational flexibility. These developments are difficult to observe in the airlines accounting figures in the short term, but if they are perceived to change a firm s future cash flows they should be reflected in the market s valuation of the firm s stock. When investigating the impact that the events of 9/11 had on each airline s risk, we consider both the systematic and unsystematic volatility of the stocks returns. This allows us to differentiate between risk factors that affected the market as a whole and risk factors that affected the firms specifically. Although we employ only a small sample, our results are highly consistent.2 We observe that Southwest performed significantly better after 9/11 than its mainstream competitors ... • 41. The Aztec Culture of Sacrifice Introduction The concept of sacrifice is a fundamental basis of almost every religion. However, its manifestation in the form of human sacrifice is both more controversial and, as a result, rarely studied by anthropologists today. As one scholar observes: The modern social anthropologist does not best endear himself to the elite of the Third World by an obsessive interest in how great grandfather shrunk the heads he hunted or in the quality of the wood needed to burn great grandmother alive (Davies, 1981, p.13). While one may question the sense of humour evident here and even its implication of a racist subtext it must be acknowledged that the role of human sacrifice in the history of religious practices is seldom addressed. ... In order to interrogate these two theories of ritual sacrifice, the practice of human sacrifice must be examined in a situation and on a scale where there can be no doubt of its significance within a culture. In this regard, no better example of human sacrifice as a culture wide religious practice may be found than the case of the Aztec civilization. Human Sacrifice (b) Practice The Aztecs, it is believed, originated as a poor nomadic tribe from a place in western Mexico they called Aztlan sometime in the 1300s. They probably never used the term Aztec in reference to themselves, and were commonly known as Mexica . They moved into the Valley of Mexico as squatters, and began making enemies of the more civilized peoples already living there as a result of the Aztec taste for violence and human sacrifice (Coe, 1984, p.145 6). The Aztecs were, in the words of one historian, despised by all (Weaver, 1972, p.239) neighbouring peoples for their placing physical violence and bloodlust at the centre of their culture. For example, while their skill in fighting led to their being employed as mercenaries, on one infamous occasion their chief was offered the daughter of the King who currently employed the tribe. When the King arrived for the marriage ceremony, he was confronted instead by a priest dancing about in his daughter s skin (Weaver, 1972, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Redefining Gender Roles Of A Streetcar Named Desire Oscar Madera Dr. Amaya Anderson ENGL 103 8 May 2016 Dissecting Gender Roles in A Streetcar Named Desire The representation of gender roles is among the most prominent recurring subjects in theatre, literature and expressive art as we know it. Gender, and what it means to human beings, is a subject that is as difficult to precisely define as death, race, and the concept of existence. Anne Beall, Ph.D. graduate in Social Psychology at Yale University, details in her book The Psychology of Gender that Gender is socially defined masculinity and femininity. Social psychology studies how gender is defined, created, and maintained through social influence, especially in the course of social interaction (Beall; 10). The nature of gender roles is ultimately dictated by temporal, societal, biological and even geographical dimensions that are out of our control and though it is a given that gender as a concept has kept as relevant as it is ancient, there has only been under a hundred years of significant progress or general awareness on the matter. The subject matter of important art in any given time period is a reflection of that society s most urgent struggles and the topic of gender has remained a constant across human history. The physical and emotional features of characters in art and literature are manifestations of the creator s perception on subjects such race and gender. The message that a creator seeks to deliver on a topic, determines how they will convey the thoughts, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Rainfall Induced Landslide Of Kenya Rainfall induced landslide probability mapping for central province 1Edward H. Waithaka, Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, Department of Geomatic Engineering Geospatial Information Systems. P.o. Box 62000 00200, Nairobi, Kenya Email: hunja@eng.jkuat.ac.ke 2 Thomas G. Ngigi Email: tomngigi@hotmail.com 3Mercy W. Mwaniki, Email: mercimwaniki@yahoo.com Abstract Rainfall induced landslide hazards in Kenya represents a major challenge and remain an important issue in disaster management especially in Kenya s central province region where the effects are very common with the onset of El nin ̃o rains. The main aim of this study is to develop a rainfall induced landslide probability map for Kenya s central province. In order to achieve this, process based methods were used to map landslide areas using the following factors: slope, rainfall, land cover change,Normalized DifferenceVegetation Index (NDVI)change, Curvature, watershed, and soil characteristic including: type, texture, soil bulk density, Base Saturation, and Total Water Available Distribution Map. The minimum conditions were set for each factor for landslide occurrence. Slope stability mapping was done to determine the stable areas and thus derive the probability of landslide occurrence. Statistical methods were then employed by means of weights of evidence to achieve the probability weights for each factor considered to cause landslides. The factors were then overlaid using the probability ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. A Wrinkle Through Time Is The Story Of Meg Murry A Wrinkle In Time is the story of Meg Murry, a high school girl who goes on an adventure between dimensions with her younger brother Charles Wallace and friend Calvin to save her father from the evil forces that hold him prisoner on another planet. These evil forces are known as IT, and strive to create uniformity and obedience without any resistance. At the end of the book the children have saved Mr. Murry from imprisonment on Camazotz, but Charles Wallace was taken over by IT, the one who had Mr. Murry, and was left behind. Meg is forced to go back to Camazotz alone to save her brother, using something that she has the IT can t fight. Using her immense love for her brother she frees him from the control of IT and all four of them make it home safely. I personally would have prefered a more tragic ending, so that s exactly what I m going to be writing here. My ending diverges from the original plot line after Meg lands on Camazotz alone to save Charles Wallace: Meg was standing breathlessly on the same hill that she had landed on the first time she came to Camazotz. She looked around, and after realizing that she was truly alone, felt dread pool in her stomach. The unforgettable voice of Mrs. Which still echoed in her ears.
