Use of Steroids by Athletes Essay
A survey was presented to 198 U.S athletes with the following scenario. You are offered a banned
performance enhancing substance that comes with two guarantees: 1) You will not be caught. 2).
You will win every competition you enter for the next five years and then you will die from the
side effects of the substance. Would you take it? More than half the athletes said yes. As we can
infer from the above survey, a large number of professional athletesare willing to risk their lives for
the chance of victory and recognition.
The controversy of doping in sports is centered on the use of drugs to increase speed, strength,
intensity and endurance. Various sports regulatingbodies such as the International Olympic
Committee have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many Chinese athletes have been disqualified for illegal drug use. Similarly, a number of U.S
athletes have admitted to using these drugs. Steroids have been found in athletes engaged in a
variety of sports, including swimmers, golfers, baseball players, boxers, hockey players, and body
builders (Burnsytn 234).
Anabolic steroids have been proven to have serious adverse health effects. Researchers have linked
extensive use of these drugs to liver damage, coronary heart disease, and congestive heart failure.
Anabolic steroids cause testicular atrophy and breast enlargement in males and menstrual cycle
difficulties and body hair growth in women. In addition, athletes who use anabolic steroids may
exhibit aggressive behavior, mood swings, and explosive tempers (Etzen 64).
Besides the concern about safety, the doping controversy is centered on the issue of fair play.
Opponents argue that athletes who use performance enhancing substances have an unfair
advantage. Many athletes choose to train and compete with nothing more than hard work and
determination. For many of us, this is the way sport is meant to be. However, some athletes choose
to gain an advantage over others by using substances that are banned. These athletes do not
consider what they are doing to be wrong because these substances are available to everyone on the
black market, so anyone can use them. Thus,

From Utopia To Mill Town Analysis
Can you imagine getting up at the creak of dawn and then working for 12 plus hours? How
about wearing a dress while having to use a loom or work in the mills? Well, the women during
the 1800s where the heart and sole for the factories;not only did they have to work at such
hours, but they did it with such a grace and many were eager to work for it gave them a sense of
independence. Industrialization was the reason behind the young women working in the factories
and mills ,however it was not the best working conditions. Many of the young girls did not have
the knowledge to work with the equipment nor were they being taught; this leading to the girls
getting hurt or being scared of the tool just as one of the From Utopia To Mill Town

Scott s Miracle Gro Case Summary
Objective The objective of this study is to decide the best decision for Scott s Miracle Gro on
whether to outsource their production to china or stay in the Temecula plant in California.
Factors such as risks/benefits, and cost analysis will be considered in reaching an outcome onto
what will be the best option for Scott s Miracle Gro in order to maximize profit, efficiency, and
long term growth. Suggestions The best option for Scott s Miracle Gro is to stay in the United
States. This will benefit the company financially and will help keep the product quality standards
high. However, some production cost need to be cut down in order to remain competitive and keep
profit at a percentage they would make if the company would outsource... Show more content on

A cost analysis has been performed for Scotts Miracle Gro using the location of Temecula, CA
and the estimated usage of 8,000,000 kWh s of electricity per year. It has been determined that
by implementing solar energy panels to offset 50% of the plants annual electricity usage, this
will provide the company with the following incentives (please refer to Exhibit 2 for the full cost
analysis): An average monthly savings of $559,600, An average 25 year savings of
$279,660,603.33, A ROI of 215.82%, Only a 14.58 breakeven point, 30% Annual Federal Tax
Credit, and The peace of mind knowing that the company is helping offset their carbon emission
to protect our diminishing environment, also creating a good public image. Raw Materials
Costs In 2006, Scotts Miracle Gro spent $105.8 million in raw materials, a $28.3 million
increase from 2005 (Supply Chain Management, 155). Although this increase in raw material
costs is partly attributed to price inflation, Scotts Miracle Gro can implement new production
processes to save in raw material costs. The most predominant raw material used by Scotts
Miracle Gro products is plastic resin. In order to save on costs, the Temecula plant should find
ways to reduce material input without changing the quality of the product. Also, excess plastic
resin should be recycled back into the production process. Not only will this decrease the amount
of raw materials used and wasted, but it will also help decrease the disposal cost of used

The Formation Of Social Policy
Aaminah Shabbir The Formation of Social Policy
In this essay, I will be discussing how Conservatism and Socialism ideologies shape social policy
in the UK. I will also be arguing that despite the United Kingdom being a democratic society, it is
falling below democratic standards. At present, social media is one of the most powerful tools in
shaping people s perceptions on political ideologies, and therefore will be evaluating the extent it
plays on policies as well as social conscience. The United Kingdom has two main political parties,
the Conservative party and the Labour party. Although the political system in the UK has always
been a multiparty system, ultimately it is either of these parties which shape policies in Britain.
They have several differences on many key issues and principles. On the political spectrum, the
labour party belongs to the centre left of the centre with socialistic ideology whereas the
Conservative party sits at the centre right of the political spectrum with their primary philosophies
of British unionism, Euroscepticism, Conservatism and Economic Liberalism. The Conservatism
ideology stands firmly against the ideals of Liberalism and Socialism. The labour party (left wing)
aim to support people who are unable to support themselves and believe in equality. Conservative
party (right wing) value equity, economic freedom and freedom to succeed. Right wing people

Why People Get Religious Tattoos
Why do people get religious tattoos?
People hold different motives as they decide to get a tattoo. And I humbly think that the issue of
religious people marking their body is too personal to be confined as right or wrong. Usually the
path they choose to follow with all the principles and beliefs it disseminates regarding the tattoos is
what is determinant, but sometimes people decide to go against the will of the Believed and leave
the last word to themselves. Nevertheless, getting a tattoo is a decision that people make pondering
over many arguments.
First of all, the idea of getting a tattoo was always counterintuitive from religious perspectives as
People with paint on their body were mostly considered disreputable and evil. But those times are
far behind and today every religion stands on its own while adjudicating on a matter of tattoos. For
instance, religious tattoos are mostly associated with Christianity and it is a common thing for its
followers to get an image of a cross or Jesus inked on their body, mainly with purpose to glorify the
God and express their strong beliefs through something permanent. Other religious teachings where
tattoos are not condemned are Buddhism and Hinduism, while Islam rigidly forbids any form of

Alice Neel And Schiele Analysis
Alice Neel and Egon Schiele were some of the most daring artists of their time. Neel was
especially known for her uncaring attitude of what was in at the time, while Egon Schiele was
similarly known to paint some of the most bold nude figures of his time. Both painted what they
wanted, not a thought towards what was socially acceptable. They both focused on painting
people around them, or in Neel s case, random people on the street, and Schiele was often
compared to Picasso in his obsession with self portraits. Either way, while Alice Neel and Egon
Schiele were from opposite sides of the planet, they shared a remarkably similar style of painting
and rendering of the subjects in those paintings. Alice Neel wasn t noticed until much later... Show

In Andy Warhol we see a sense of shame, but also acceptance and contentment by the light clasp
of his hands, and the slight straining of his shoulders. His eyes are closed, which could either be
out of fear of being seen, or a sense of peace at finally being seen. His lips are delicately pursed,
which, again, shows that he could either be fighting the urge to cower and hide, or his own
frustration with this desire, and his determination to continue. In addition to these many subtle
expressions of emotion, we know that the actual man was known for his cool and confident
attitude, which tells us just how much of a big deal his utter vulnerability truly is. Neel has
stripped all outside masks, and has unearthed the frightened, old man beneath Warhol s suave
persona. Conversely, we see nothing but aloofness and an impassioned gaze within Schiele s
Self Portrait with Chinese Lantern. Schiele has drawn himself looking at the viewer with his
chin held up and his shoulders tilted back, an aura of complete confidence and self importance all
but oozing out of him. His face seems to ask, Is that all that you ve got? . The placement of his
arms belies his face though, for they re tightly bound around his front, near his waist, showing that
he may not be as self assured as he

those classified in a certain category is well illustrated through the librarian who, when asked if
Peter did anything to her, answers He didn t do anything, but he made me think that he is going to
do something bad to me. So are you going to protect us? (52:43) Peter didn t do anything; however,
the librarian by witnessing his abnormal behavior and finding out about his schizophreniaadapts her
experience to something that could have been dangerous. Similar to how Hacking expects
classificatory looping to work on those classified. She had an incomplete perception of the events
and took his actions to be part of his irrationality, instead of Peter s attempt to find his daughter and
stop the radio noises in his head.
Throughout the movie, we see Peter as this schizophrenic doing irrational things like cutting his
head and nail. Peter barely talks so the audience can only perceive him through these irrational
actions. With this, the audience is left to interpret the parallel killings as Peter s work. It is only
when Peter is with his daughter that he talks freely about his delusions and the audience starts
seeing Peter as a rational human. (62:34) It is during his interaction with Nicole that there are no
background noises, irrational behavior or delusions. The audience sees only an awkward father
trying to connect with his daughter. It is during this moment that the audience starts seeing Peter as
a human, suffering with Schizophrenia and the pain of separation between him

is therefore important to respond in the appropriate way. It is very important to follow up any
enquiries from parents as this will show them that you care about their concerns or questions.
Every practitioner should show and reassure the parents that their opinions and circumstances

Coevolution And Evolutionary Responses At First Thought
Coevolution and Evolutionary Responses At first thought, it might seem as if everything is
involved in coevolution. This assumption might be drawn due to the fact that basically every
organism interacts with another organism and possibly influences their evolution in some way.
However, this assumption depends entirely on one s definition of coevolution. There are many
other forms of evolutionary responses other than coevolution including: evolutionary relationships
between antagonists, evolutionary equilibrium, genetic variation in competitive ability, and
character displacement, all which will be discussed later on. In fact, all of these evolutionary
responses revolve around the idea that interacting populations tend to evolve in response to
features which affect evolutionary strength. First, species evolve in ways that improve, or at
least maintain, their ability to live. Communities, however, do not undergo the same process. No
community evolves as a unit. Species may evolve in ways that are mostly influenced by ecology.
This means that species evolve by their relationship with one or a few species, which in turn
allows the others to evolve as well. Coevolution is commonly described as a change in the genetic
composition of one species, or group, in response to a genetic change in another and was coined by
Ehrlich and Raven after observing plant herbivore interactions. Around the same time, Charles
Darwin published The Origin of Species, which also spoke of the

Police Brutality Report
Police seemingly have the civic duty to protect and serve the tax paying Americans of the United
States like most people who are given authority or supremacy over others; their privilege can be
abused. The word Police is the civic force of a nation or local government, responsible for the
prevention and detection of crime and the maintenance of public order Regrettably, the opposite is
happening and policebrutality is an act that is happening all over the world, often being associated
with police misconduct. Hundreds of police brutalitycases have gone to court or have gone
unreported, so the question at hand is clearly simple how is police brutality detrimental to the

colorblind racist, it is both a race issue and an abuse of power issue which effects everyone. You
should care about abuse issues regardless of the race of the person victimized. It isn t any better
when the victim is White, which happens a lot too, just not as often per population but more
often by number. Does that make all the White people abused in the system disappear because
they are greater in number but less by census? Of course it does not. A person is a person. If
another person of another racial group is suffering, you should help regardless of race. If you

Our Social And Private Values Impact Our Lives
Welcome to planet Earth, here on earth things are very differently than they are on Procyon A
and B. Values and attitudes are what guide our day to day decisions on every aspect of our lives.
It is very important to understand how our social and private values impact our everyday lives. I
am going to tell you how we manage to stay organized here on earth. Some time ago, a man named
Shalom H Schwartz came up with a theory on humanvalues which became known as The Schwartz
Theory. The Schwartz Theory is something which explains how us humans experience every day
in our lives. This theory proposes various human types made up of what he called Bipolar
Dimensionwhich is then split up into 4 categories however, I will only mention the First and
Second Bipolar Dimension below for now as they are most relatable ones.
The First Bipolar Dimension includes Self Enhancement , which is the pursuit of one s own
interests and relative success as the motivation that makes us humans feel good about ourselves. It
is like a daily competition with ourselves and if that goal isn t achieved it tends to create in us
feeling of a personal failure. Another category included in the first dimension is called Self
Transcendence and it is measured by how far we come in our spiritual journey transcending our
physical needs. We humans, must sometimes take time to ourselves thought the day to put our
mind and body in a calm state.
We sometimes do this using various

The Similarities Between Schizophrenia And Cognitive...
Schizophrenia affects about 1 in every 100 people. Often times, the thoughts of a person with
schizophrenia are fragmented, bizarre, and distorted by delusions. Some have paranoid tendencies,
where they are prone to delusions. People with schizophrenia often cannot provide their full
attention to a stimuli, which allows for distractions from other stimuli. This is called selective
attention, one of the dozens of cognitive differences associated with schizophrenia. Hallucinations
are also a part of these disturbed perceptions. Hallucinations are sensory experiences without
sensory stimulation. Inappropriate emotions and actions are also accompanied with schizophrenia.
They are usually split off from reality, or utterly inappropriate. In summary,

Haraway’s A Cyborg Manifesto Essay
Donna J. Haraway s A Cyborg Manifesto
Haraway s provocative proposal of envisioning the cyborg as a myth of political identity embodies
the search for a code of displacement of the hierarchical dualisms of naturalized identities (CM,
175), and thus for the breakdown of the logic of phallogocentrism and of the unity of the Western
idealized self.
Haraway defines the cyborg as a cybernetic organism, a hybrid of machine and organism, a creature
of social reality as well as a creature of fiction (CM, 149). Her argument is introduced as an effort
to build an ironic political myth faithful to feminism, socialism, and materialism (CM, 149). She
claims blasphemy and irony as her vantage tools. Blasphemy invokes the seriousness of ... Show

Cyborgs are technological constructs and thus deny the logic of reproduction; they rather mock the
masculinist reproductive dream (CM, 152). They have no memory of a primary state of innocence;
they conceive of no Father s saving through the restoration of a garden they don t recognize the
Garden of Eden in that they do not re member the cosmos (CM, 151). As they build no sense of
community on the model of the organic family, they live outside the oedipal project they are wary
of holism, but needy for connection (CM, 151). Though the offsprings of militarism, patriarchal
capitalism and state socialism, they are illegitimate offsprings and thus unfaithful to their origins.
The late twentieth century scientific culture in the United States has experienced three crucial
boundary breakdowns:
the boundary between human and animal is thoroughly breached the boundary between human and
machine has become leaky and ambiguous the boundary between physical and non physical has
become very imprecise in that the experience of fluidity and lightness made possible by signals and
electromagnetic waves renders the physical both material and opaque, very near to quintessence.
When boundaries are transgressed, the transcendent authorization of interpretation is lost, and with
it the ontology grounding Western epistemology (CM, 153).
If cyborg myth is about the transgression of boundaries, as Haraway seems to posit, it envisions

Jesse Prinz s Argument Analysis
Philosophers have always strived to nurture a relationship between moral judgment and emotion.
They often analyze the various concepts put forward with the aim of explaining morality which
would be the best approach to assess the credibility of the arguments for morality. Literature
suggests that relativists hold onto their arguments based on the fact that various cultures tend to
have varying moral belief systems.
According to Jesse Prinz, the origins of our moral inclinations is merely cultural. For centuries,
moral relativism has been recognized as a liberal doctrine that has had significant implications on
the society s way of life, organization, and the perception of others. Prinz lays out an argument in
which he claimed that morals differ ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, relativism informs us that we would be wrong to think that we hold the true form of
morality. Additionally, throughout our lives, we attempt to pursue values that could make us live
fulfilling lives, though we ought to acknowledge that fulfillment is also relative hence there are
no values that could be designed or claimed to be universally fulfilling (p. 20). Realizing that
relativism is real could help everyone individually by demonstrating that our treasured values are
parochial and mutable. We ought to abandon the assumption that others share our beliefs and
acknowledge that our moral values could have been different had we be born or had we lived in
different conditions. In this manner, we will be able to be more flexible, open minded, and tolerant.
However, the three serious shortcoming of the relativist theory makes it unattractive. However, if
we were to have open minds and refrain from arrogance, we could be able to accommodate the
relativist theory without accepting the entire

This paper intends to compare the first industrial revolution of the 17th and 18th centuries and the
second industrial revolution of the mid 18th and 19th centuries. It will highlight the transformation
from the first revolution to the second revolution, focusing on the presence of giant firms and role

Not only did the introduction of petrol engines made transportation more faster, it also helped
with the development of the aircraft engine which meant that transportation of good was

illness. For instance, the 1919 influenza epidermis saw the development of anti flu vaccines which

Summary Of Ordinary Men And Lest Innocent Blood Be Shed
Christopher Browning and Philip Hallie are the authors of Ordinary Men and Lest Innocent
Blood Be Shed respectively. Two extremely interesting books about the World War II and the
different behaviors and reactions of the society during that rough time. On his writing, Browning
shows how ordinary men can change their beliefs and their common sense because of the
influence of others. In this book, soldiers of the WWII were influenced by the government of
Hitler. Browning called it atrocity by policy because the damage caused by soldiers wasn t
spontaneous but indeed planned methodically by the government, they had calculations and plans.
In addition, Browning explains how members of the police battalion (a Nazi paramilitary
formation) slowly started enjoying the idea of murder and torture innocent people. As in combat,
the horrors of the initial encounter eventually became routine (Browning 1992, p. 161). Browning
describes the behavior of the policemen as if they didn t have their own sense of knowing what

The Opioid Epidemic in Canada and the USA and its Effects on the Health of the Affected
Communities Canada is in the mist of opioid overdose. On a per capita bases Canada is second
only to the US in opioid consumption and overdose. No fewer than 2480 people died from
opioid overdoses in 2016 across Canada. Among the hardest hit provinces are British Colombia,
Alberta, and Ontario. British Columbia reported close to 800 overdose fatalities between January

Programs to Address the Opioid Epidemic Various levels of governments in different
communities across North America have initiated programs to deal with the opioid epidemic
and its effect. Some of these initiatives will be examined in more details below. Supervised
Consumption Sites Supervised consumption sites are seen as an effective means of reducing
harm associated with illicit opioid consumption. Generally these are sites where drug users can
inject or consume drugs under the observation of trained personal. The first of such consumption
sites in Canada Insite was established in Vancouver in 2003. So far there has not been a single
reported case of overdose fatality at the site. The success of Insite as a harm reduction approach
has encouraged jurisdictions across Canada to adopt or contemplate similar systems. In 2017, the
federal government passed Bill C 37 with the aim of streamlining the application process for
communities who wish to operate supervised consumption sites. In Alberta, there are five
proposed supervised injection sites, four in Edmonton and another in Calgary. Out patient

Descriptive Essay On The Night
The Watcher
Every night there was a shadow out the window and it just lingered there. It was there one
second and then it was gone. I had a feeling that someone was there but I didn t want to believe
it. The next night I waited until I saw the shadow again and this time I got up and quietly walked
out the front door. As I made my way around the yard I looked around to see if I could see
anything that might look suspicious. I got to my bedroom window where I saw the shadow the
previous nights but this time all I saw was footprints in the dirt and no one in sight. They were
not human footprints but much larger and more deformed. I heard a loud growling noise behind
me and I was far away from the front door. I turned around and saw the giant shadow that was
now a monster. I ran around the house as fast as I could and made it to the backyard. I jumped
the fence but the monster was still behind me. I made it to the back door but it was locked and
now I was trapped. Just when I thought I was about to get killed by the monster it fell to the
ground and when I opened my eyes a tall dark man was standing there with a sword. He had
killed the monster just a moment before it got to me. Then just as I was about to say something
to him he was gone just as fast as he was there. I stood frozen and speechless. As I walked back to
the house I was just silent and thinking about everything that just happened. I went back to my bed
and laid there until I fell asleep.

Minimum Wage Should Be Increased

Minimum Wage Should Be Increased
Congress enacted the federal minimum wage in 1938, during the Great Depression. Congress had
two goals; keeping workers away from poverty and boosting consumer spending for economic
recovery. Today, there is a debate, whether we should increase the minimum wageagain. Increasing
the minimum wage is useful for several reasons. First, the current minimum wage has failed to keep
up with inflation. Second, a higher income level reduces employee turnover and increases
efficiency and ultimately, raising the minimum wage does not reduce employment. Even with high
unemployment rates, the minimum wage is useful for the economy.
Today the federal minimum wage is $7.25 per hour since July 24, 2009. It has failed to keep up
with inflation. The real value of the minimum wage rose steadily from 1938 until its value
reached a peak in 1968. Thereafter, it suffered severe erosion as Congress failed to adjust for the
inflation over time. The minimum wage of $1.60 an hour in 1968 would be $10.47 today when
adjusted for inflation. This means that the purchasing power of the minimum wage has decreased
significantly over time. The current minimum wage is no longer enough to protect workers out
of poverty. A person who earns the minimum wage and works full time (40 hours/week, 52
weeks/year) only earns about $12,000 in a year. This is almost $7,000 below the poverty line for a
family of three ($19,090)

Problems by Farmers and Immigrants in 1800 s
History Essay

There were many problems faced by both farmers and immigrants in the late 1800 s. The economy
was very shaky, the government was not stepping up to help, and the immigrants faced harsh times
in their coming to America. Eventually many groups were formed to help with these issues.
Farmers faced many issues in the 1800 s. First off, debt was a huge issue for farmers. Falling crop
prices, unpaid loans, and crashing banks all led to the huge debt of farmers. Because the crop
prices were falling in the horrible economy loans could not be paid back, unemployment soared,

The label of inferiority poses immense challenges on the structure of a society. Branding a group

Using these concepts to better understand the complex reality of race relations in the United States,
a clearer picture can be painted of why white racial supremacy has been so powerful in all aspects
of U.S. American society.
The institution of slavery in the United States of America was a process that evolved over
generations; an institution which developed in the northern colonies of New England area very
differently than the Southern colonies. In the South, slavery as an institution started to enhance
the productivity of agriculture. It may not have been the most humane way to grow cotton or
sugar cane, but slavery provided essentially free labor to white farmers: The settlers in the
Southern States were naturally tempted by the example of the West Indian planters, to make use
of these imported black[s] in the service of field labor ( Slaves and Slavery ). African people were
kidnapped from their home, shipped across the Atlantic Ocean, and sold as property in order to do
manual labor for white people. Many today are ashamed that the U.S. went through such a cruel
period of history when we subjected millions to the atrocities of the slave trade. The result of the
1860 census states that almost 13% of the population was slaves, or four million slaves in a

Specifications As a summer engineering intern at Frito Lay, the importance of maintaining
standards and quality on all projects has been reinforced to me daily. Considering that Frito Lay is

understandably important. To ensure product consistency, the use of specifications is leveraged

information and to establish information policies. These information policies were intended to
reduce the total amount of paperwork handled by the United States government and the general

The plague caught Athens off guard, for the navy was well armed and prepared, the citizens were

Teenage and college women are overly obsessing about their body images and constantly think

wrong idea of what the perfect body is, since there is no such thing as a perfect body. Every
person is different and there can be no perfect . Being skinny is not the thing to strive for, but
rather being healthy is. In this decade, women are constantly looking at models, T.V. shows and

we as women in society must look. The problem is by excessively looking at these photos or T.V.

world. Television, magazines, newspapers, radio, cinema, advertising, the Internet, and other so

our working time (Lopez Guimera, 4). If you really think about it, on most occasions, when
Americans have some down time, or a couple of minutes to rest, they quickly turn to the Internet

a girl spends up to ten minutes a day on a social media, or networking site, that can lead up to the

A comparison of Behar’s The Vulnerable Observer and...
When presented with ethnographic works, the first thing one would normally do would be to
compare. The Vulnerable Observer by Ruth Behar and In the Realm of the Diamond Queen by
Anna Lowenhaupt Tsing, both demonstrate key factors that prove to be prevalent throughout the
anthropological world today. Through the examination of each piece, it is clear that they both
share similar restrictions, trials and tribulations. As both books begin to unravel, the themes of
marginality and borders (in a multitude of contexts) rise to the surface. Besides the similarities,
there are also major differences between the two pieces of work. Behar and Tsing share a very
different style of anthropology, which creates am interesting contrast on the way each... Show more

Also, throughout this ethnographic piece it is evident that there is some divide in the way men and
women are treated. This relates to Mascia Lee s piece on Gender and Anthropology as it examines
the borders that (usually, women) are faced with throughout the field of anthropology. On page 20
of this article, it discusses the implications that borders and limitations impose on the levels of
sexual stratification throughout the anthropology world. (Masica Lee, 2000)
The next theme that is a relevant source of comparison for both novels would be on the basis of
marginality. In Behar s book, there are clearly instances where marginalized groups are
displayed. Since Behar is originally from Cuba, she discusses the way in which her life was
before she moved to the United States. One example in particular that stands out was the moment
when Behar was conversing with her friend Marta. Behar states that, ...promised I would do
everything in my power to protect Marta from the many perils of modernity on this side of the
border. (Behar, 1996, p. 98) This quote displays the way in which Marta, who came from Mexico,
was about to conform to the norms of American society, as she was about to partake in a
hysterectomy. This relates to marginality due to the fact that where Marta originated from, this
would have never happened. This also relates to Mary Douglas s article on External Boundaries.

makes logic, if they enter college then that means that they need some sort of education to have

Guns And Crime And Violence Essay
Guns and crime. These two words sound interesting, right? Now think about it deeply, do they
really link to each other? Do guns surely lead to crime and violent issues? If so, should
governments set restrictive rules for people who own and use the guns, such as provide the mental
health reports, and test the shooting skills before purchasing the guns? These questions have been
mentioned and discussed over and over again in today s world. We can often hear the news about
gunviolence, such as a tragic mass shooting somewhere around the world and tons of victims who
died from the accident, or husband that shot his wife by accident. Thus, many people, especially
people in America, are asking, and even doubting whether or not it is beneficial to own guns at
home without a license. In my opinion, I think that owning a gun can be helpful sometimes in some
ways, as it can always be the extremely powerful and helpful weaponfor self defense, especially
when help from the law enforcement officers are not available.
Being a student in the United States, I have often heard many stories about gun violence. I always
thought it was something that would never happen to me and people around me until that Friday
night. I clearly remember that it was a chill and windy night. A dark sky was full of the blazing
stars, and a round bright moon hanging in the sky. Everything just seemed so quiet and perfect.
During the time, I was sleeping peacefully in bed, and all of a sudden I heard someone

The At The Edge Of The Castle Training Field Essay
At the edge of the castle training field, bathed by the rays of a waning autumn sun, Percival
reached for Fleur s hand as they waited for the knighting ceremony to begin. Deena and Ida, their
girls, sat in the grass, vibrating with excitement. Banon lay down between them, basking in the
glory of belly rubs, as the dog always did. It seemed impossible that the girls were ten and Banon
was almost eleven. Hadn t they come into Percival and Fleur s life only yesterday?
A cool afternoon breeze kissed Percival s face, and with that, he gazed at the sparse clouds above
and recalled the past. He was almost thirty three, and somehow, the past seemed closer than ever.
So much had happened during the past decade.
When Deena and Ida turned one, Percival and Gwaine, on a mission in Ismere, had been captured
and forced into slavery by Morgana. That was a dark and frightening time for Percival and Gwaine,
yet eventually, Merlin and King Arthurrescued them. Percival recalled his homecoming, when
Fleur carrying the twins in her arms Rion, and Banon charged from the castle and ran to him,
sobbing with joy. Rion all but pulled Percival from his horse, and Percival and his family stood
outside in the downpour, reunited and grateful. He had never felt more loved than in that moment.
Further, Arthur had managed to negotiate peace with King Odin, and Camelot and Cornwall had not
warred in years.
Regardless, there had been more dark times.
Less than a year later, the epic Battle of

Poniente Film Analysis
The film, Poniente clearly demonstrated the issues of race and class within Spain. All throughout
the film, aggression from the local Spanish residents was seen towards the migrant workers. The
workers, many of whom were from Morocco or other parts of Sub Saharan Africa, were
underpaid for their labor, threatened, verbally and physically abused, and thought to be easily
replaced by their employers. Said, for example, nearly bought his own place to live, but the
landlord rented it out to someone else, most likely because of race. All these acts of violence
cumulates and results in the final scene of the film; where the residents riot and attack the workers,
thinking they had set fire to the greenhouse. The film does a good job of representing

Interview Process Analysis
Earning a job can be beneficial but finding one can be stressful. Search for the career you want to

the occupation you will have until retirement. Before you get a job there are three steps, which are
creating the rГ©sumГ©, job searching, and the interview. following these few key steps will
increase the chances of you getting that career. To acquire a career, first you need to write a
rГ©sumГ©. A rГ©sumГ© is a brief document that summarizes your history. For example, your
education history, employment history, and qualifications. These documents are different from
letters and papers, so instead apply bullet points rather than long sentences and paragraphs. Write
the resume that fits the requirements of the job you are applying for. According to Source one, You
should look at as many resume examples as possible before writingyour own. This is important
because you need to make sure that your document is written the right way. The second step is
the job searching. Searching for a new job is the best time to focus on your skills. A good place to

The Jewish Roots of Christian Liturgy
I Introduction First Christian communities appeared in Jewish Palestine and Diaspora after the
death of Jesus of Nazareth, called the Christ, around 30 CE. Not only Jesus himself was a Jew,
but also his followers and very first members of the new growing community were mainly Jews.
They all shared the Jewish belief, the Sacred Scripture that Christians later started to call the Old
Testament (OT), and were not aware of founding a new religion. A closer examination of Jewish
worship will let us understand how it influenced the new Christian worship. We will have a closer
look at places of worship, liturgical sources and customs which were common at that time. A last
task will be to ask whether there are any significant Jewish elements... Show more content on

There are some references to this pattern in the gospels (e.g. Lk 2,38; Mt 11,25 30; Jn 11,41 42).
Further we will see how some of these prayers in connection with the domestic Jewish worship were
essential for the Christian liturgy of the Eucharist.
D. The third main place of Jewish worship was home, especially during the time of meal. In the
OT the communion of meal and feast was understood as a sign of covenant (eg. Gen 26,30). The
Sabbath as a day was a special sign of covenant with God (Ex 31, 13 15) and so was the meal. The
main meal of the year was the Passover meal, as a memorial day for the Lord s passover in Egypt
and deliverance from slavery (Ex 12). The weekly Sabbath meal on Friday evenings and the
yearly Passover meal thus became quite elaborate. Bradshaw reminds that there is unfortunately
no detailed evidence about meal prayers in the first century, but according to the later evidence
many assume that every meal started with berakot (plural of berakah) and ended with them. The
opening berakot were pronounced over wine and bread, while the berakot at the end of the meal,
called Birkat ha mazon, consisted of a berakah for food, a hodayah for revelation and a tefillah for
redemption (Bradshaw: 44f; Kavanagh: 621). For Christians the Last Supper with Jesus, which was
a Passover meal, assumed a new meaning (Eucharist) as a thanksgiving and

Pol Pot Became The Leader Of Cambodia
When I was younger, my mom would always tell us about her life in Cambodia. She d talk about
the small village she lived in, how everyone was close, how much she enjoyed living a simple
life. She d talk about the arranged marriage with my father, how they were so young, how Pol
Pot came into power, and how she came to America. This is her story. My mom was born and

for a living. Her family wasn t poor nor was they rich, but they lived comfortably and life was
good. On April 17, 1975 Pol Pot became the leader of Cambodia. He was a communist and decided

police. They left Vietnam shortly after because they did not want the police to find out that they
were living in the country illegally. They returned to Cambodia for a few days and made their way
to Thailand.
Going to Thailand was dangerous and risky. My parents snuck onto the back of delivery trucks,
hid in cargo, and paid people to get closer to Thailand. Once they were close enough to the border,
they rode bikes through a secret path and got onto a truck that took them into the country. The
emigration from Cambodia and into Thailand was so secretive because Cambodia did not allow
their residents to leave the country at the time.
In Thailand, my parents lived in a refugee camp until a relative responded to their letters asking for
sponsorship to America. When the green light was given, the Thai

Climbers Persuasive Speech
Imagine yourself getting ready to rescue a climber stuck on top of a mountain. There you are in
the helicopter reaching out to the distressed climber, but all of a sudden you fall down thousands
and thousands of feet to your death. You just risked your life to save someone who was not ready.
People putting their lives at stake for someone who was not ready is not acceptable.
The cost to rescue someone is unbelievable. According to Nick Heil The B3 cost about $2
million apiece and quite expensive to operate (Van, line 54 56) This means that for every rescue
they carry out means more money they need to pay the bill but they also need to make a profit.
Also, Robert Siegel stated, Is a part of the issue here that these rescue choppers give climbers a
false or at least, a rather expensive sense of security, and that makes them more willing to take
risks. That statement talks about how climbers feel safe because they know they are going to get
rescued, but they also know that flying ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Effects Of Oral On Athletic Performance And Health
The Effect of Oral ATP Supplements on Athletic Performance and Health
Abstract
During the past 20 years, the nutritional supplement creatine monohydrate has continuously gained
popularity and recognition as a successful nutritional strategy to gain muscle mass and strength.
Countless studies have been conducted to observe the effects of creatine supplementation on
physical performance of individuals, along with its effect on the health of the tested individuals.
These studies have found that creatine supplementation does indeed have a beneficial effect on
physical performance by increasing strength and muscle mass, while not providing any serious
health concerns to those who consume it.
Literature Review
Over the past 20 years, the nutritional supplement creatine monohydrate has been gaining immense
popularity, with documented sales from $50 million in 1996 (Bamberger, 1998) to over $400
million during 2001 (Metzl et al., 2001). Creatine supplementation first started to gain popularity
after Olympic athletes from the Barcelona Olympic Games believed that their performance had
benefited from taking creatine supplements (Anderson, 1993). Since then, creatine has become one
of the most widely utilized nutritional supplements worldwide (Williams et al., 1999). A reason for
this may be that creatine is not banned by the National Collegiate Athlete Association (NCAA) or
the International Olympic Committee. However, NCAA coaches are not allowed to provide
creatine for their

The Major Effects Of The Second Industrial Revolution
The second industrial revolution was the change of our world even though many people moved
from rural homes into cities because they can t get accepted in jobs and it started in the 1870
1944 after the civil war because during this time, many advances in technology and factories made
it easier and quicker for farmers and manufactures to produce more goods and products to be sold.
There was also one major effect that caused the second industrial revolution which was immigration
and this had many benefits such as the beginning of new ideas, innovations, and inventions because
many people were coming from different civilization around the world with creativity to America.
During the working conditions of the second industrial revolution there ... Show more content on

As the growth of industrial development increased so did the accumulation of massive industries
and corporations . This had changed The United States of America into being urbanized instead of
being a rural area. Then many businessmen like Andrew Carnegie, John D Rockefeller, and
Cornelius Vanderbilt had big industrial tycoons which had a massive benefit for them and for
their society because they had an increase in mass production which ultimately changed the face
of the United States of America from being a rural society into being an urban society. Family
relations started to weaken during the second revolution in America and New England because
with new employment opportunities for women, men and children in New England and America,
families had the ability to become free or separate from each other, move away, or have an
employment in which their gender or age might not have otherwise allowed today. In short, the
Industrial Revolution in early America created a standard of hard work, individuality, and in some
cases, an equal amount of importance dedicated to career and family. All in all, the second
industrial revolution was essentially a positive thing because many benefits came out of it such as
new ideas, innovations, and inventions. Every new thing they had discovered led to a newer
discovery. This is why we have all of the advances in technology, machinery, and

textile manufacturer using weaving technology to manufacture lifelines. Piqued by American
research on adding safety belts to cars, Takata began doing their own research in 1952 using
parachute technology to manufacturer seat belts. In 1973 Takata began to voluntarily participate
in the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) crash test. Takata was the
only company out of six other companies to clear the 32.3 mph crash standard. It was in 1979 that
Takata began to research air bags and begin developing child restraint systems. By 1983 Takata was

Since air bags are a standardized component within the final product, the slightest defect can
wind up affecting millions of vehicles. As safety is Takata s motto they should have better
quality systems in place that would minimize the number of defective standardized products
given the sheer volume produced. Takata ought to have taken a more diligent approach to the
defects and addressed the public s safety concerns sooner than six years after a death occurred as
a result of their product. Furthermore, Takata cited driver safety as the reason for its
controversial refusal to comply with federal regulators who want a national recall of its airbags.
I believe that Takata was not prepared for a full scale recall so they decided to pursue a more
hands off approach which was truly not in their best interest. Because Takata prolonged the
recall investigation, they were faced with several penalties, fines and fees and as a result of their
lack of effort to correct the problem, company shares have fallen and Takata is reporting a net
loss. There is also the potential for Takata to lose some of their customers; however, it is important
to note that Takata is only one of three companies producing air bags. Due to the minimal choices
automakers have for suppliers with regards to air bags, it reasons that Takata might not be
concerned with their position in the supply chain as the automakers would not favor a duopoly. It

Graffiti As A Vandalism
Graffiti is considered vandalism in some cities, streets, and underground tunnel where it is
considered to have issues with the police. Yet in other places graffiti is considered a kind of art
form where painting on the wall isn t consider a type of crime, but a kind of painting that is view
on the streets instead in a museum. In different cities, countries have had graffitiart where street
artists can consider themselves as an artist to express how they feel or to explain something
through art instead of art. Whereas there are some people who want some of the graffiti arts to
be taken off since is consider doing vandalism and some of the graffiti are inappropriate kind of
art and street artist should be arrested for vandalizing the streets. I believe that graffiti should be
considered art since it is just a way to make the streets beautiful to express what a person is
feeling or thinking through street painting. Graffiti is a kind of vandalism, yet graffiti shouldn t
be considered a crime, graffiti should be consider as art that it is just a way to make the streets
beautiful to express what a person is feeling or thinking through street painting. In everyday life
we see on the news all the crime and problem we see all over the world. Yet in some of news they
never talk about how graffiti is considered as a major crime, just as a type vandalism. For
example in an article of Graffiti: A dangerous way to live Scrawling graffiti is seen as a crime in
the UK, yet in the US it has become a recognised art form, it says that in the UK Some people
regard graffiti as a form of vandalism and a menace...However, others say that graffiti at its best
is an art form. Art galleries in London and New York have exhibited work by increasingly
famous graffiti artists. What this mean is that graffiti at its best is an art form, art galleries in
London and New York have exhibited work by increasingly famous graffiti artist, where in the
UK it is vandalism to do graffiti whereas in the United State the have galleries exhibited work by
increasingly famous graffiti artists. Which why graffiti should be considered art since it is just a

regarding the problem, justify the impact of the problem to the
society, and consider the future customers of that would be solution.
Before designing solutions, related literature must be examined first.
This may ease off confusion as to where and how to start. Lastly, a
standard and appropriate methodology must guide everything until the

The Weight Of The Weigh Boat On A Balance
Procedure:
1.Measure the original weight of the weigh boat on a balance because you will need to subtract the
measurements of the elements and then get the exact mass.
2.Measure the original weight of a beaker on a balance because the beaker will be used for the
salt, and you will need to subtract the mass with salt in it from the original
3.Place the mixture onto a weigh boat and measure its original weight so that you can record it on
the data table
4.Pour the mixture from a weigh boat onto a filter paper and spread it apart because you need to
take out all the iron with a magnet
5.Then use a magnet and take out the iron from the mixture because iron is the only thing that is
magnetic in the mixture
6.Place the iron on a weigh boat so that you have it separated from the other elements
7.Then measure the weigh boat by using a balance to find the mass
8.Subtract the original weigh boat mass from the one with iron in it and then record the correct
measurement for iron because the weight of the iron is affected by the weight of the weigh boat so
it will not be right until you subtract the weigh boat s mass
9.Pour the mixture of the remaining salt and sand onto a weigh boat and add water so that the salt
will become soluble and the sand will float down to the bottom
10.Place a clean filter paper on top of a beaker
11.Pour the mixture mixed with water over the filter paper so that the sand remains on top of the
paper and the soluble salt water will go through into the beaker

  • 2. Use of Steroids by Athletes Essay A survey was presented to 198 U.S athletes with the following scenario. You are offered a banned performance enhancing substance that comes with two guarantees: 1) You will not be caught. 2). You will win every competition you enter for the next five years and then you will die from the side effects of the substance. Would you take it? More than half the athletes said yes. As we can infer from the above survey, a large number of professional athletesare willing to risk their lives for the chance of victory and recognition. The controversy of doping in sports is centered on the use of drugs to increase speed, strength, intensity and endurance. Various sports regulatingbodies such as the International Olympic Committee have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many Chinese athletes have been disqualified for illegal drug use. Similarly, a number of U.S athletes have admitted to using these drugs. Steroids have been found in athletes engaged in a variety of sports, including swimmers, golfers, baseball players, boxers, hockey players, and body builders (Burnsytn 234). Anabolic steroids have been proven to have serious adverse health effects. Researchers have linked extensive use of these drugs to liver damage, coronary heart disease, and congestive heart failure. Anabolic steroids cause testicular atrophy and breast enlargement in males and menstrual cycle difficulties and body hair growth in women. In addition, athletes who use anabolic steroids may exhibit aggressive behavior, mood swings, and explosive tempers (Etzen 64). Besides the concern about safety, the doping controversy is centered on the issue of fair play. Opponents argue that athletes who use performance enhancing substances have an unfair advantage. Many athletes choose to train and compete with nothing more than hard work and determination. For many of us, this is the way sport is meant to be. However, some athletes choose to gain an advantage over others by using substances that are banned. These athletes do not consider what they are doing to be wrong because these substances are available to everyone on the black market, so anyone can use them. Thus, ... • 3. From Utopia To Mill Town Analysis Can you imagine getting up at the creak of dawn and then working for 12 plus hours? How about wearing a dress while having to use a loom or work in the mills? Well, the women during the 1800s where the heart and sole for the factories;not only did they have to work at such hours, but they did it with such a grace and many were eager to work for it gave them a sense of independence. Industrialization was the reason behind the young women working in the factories and mills ,however it was not the best working conditions. Many of the young girls did not have the knowledge to work with the equipment nor were they being taught; this leading to the girls getting hurt or being scared of the tool just as one of the From Utopia To Mill Town ... • 4. Scott s Miracle Gro Case Summary Objective The objective of this study is to decide the best decision for Scott s Miracle Gro on whether to outsource their production to china or stay in the Temecula plant in California. Factors such as risks/benefits, and cost analysis will be considered in reaching an outcome onto what will be the best option for Scott s Miracle Gro in order to maximize profit, efficiency, and long term growth. Suggestions The best option for Scott s Miracle Gro is to stay in the United States. This will benefit the company financially and will help keep the product quality standards high. However, some production cost need to be cut down in order to remain competitive and keep profit at a percentage they would make if the company would outsource... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A cost analysis has been performed for Scotts Miracle Gro using the location of Temecula, CA and the estimated usage of 8,000,000 kWh s of electricity per year. It has been determined that by implementing solar energy panels to offset 50% of the plants annual electricity usage, this will provide the company with the following incentives (please refer to Exhibit 2 for the full cost analysis): An average monthly savings of $559,600, An average 25 year savings of $279,660,603.33, A ROI of 215.82%, Only a 14.58 breakeven point, 30% Annual Federal Tax Credit, and The peace of mind knowing that the company is helping offset their carbon emission to protect our diminishing environment, also creating a good public image. Raw Materials Costs In 2006, Scotts Miracle Gro spent $105.8 million in raw materials, a $28.3 million increase from 2005 (Supply Chain Management, 155). Although this increase in raw material costs is partly attributed to price inflation, Scotts Miracle Gro can implement new production processes to save in raw material costs. The most predominant raw material used by Scotts Miracle Gro products is plastic resin. In order to save on costs, the Temecula plant should find ways to reduce material input without changing the quality of the product. Also, excess plastic resin should be recycled back into the production process. Not only will this decrease the amount of raw materials used and wasted, but it will also help decrease the disposal cost of used ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Formation Of Social Policy Aaminah Shabbir The Formation of Social Policy In this essay, I will be discussing how Conservatism and Socialism ideologies shape social policy in the UK. I will also be arguing that despite the United Kingdom being a democratic society, it is falling below democratic standards. At present, social media is one of the most powerful tools in shaping people s perceptions on political ideologies, and therefore will be evaluating the extent it plays on policies as well as social conscience. The United Kingdom has two main political parties, the Conservative party and the Labour party. Although the political system in the UK has always been a multiparty system, ultimately it is either of these parties which shape policies in Britain. They have several differences on many key issues and principles. On the political spectrum, the labour party belongs to the centre left of the centre with socialistic ideology whereas the Conservative party sits at the centre right of the political spectrum with their primary philosophies of British unionism, Euroscepticism, Conservatism and Economic Liberalism. The Conservatism ideology stands firmly against the ideals of Liberalism and Socialism. The labour party (left wing) aim to support people who are unable to support themselves and believe in equality. Conservative party (right wing) value equity, economic freedom and freedom to succeed. • 6. Why People Get Religious Tattoos Why do people get religious tattoos? People hold different motives as they decide to get a tattoo. And I humbly think that the issue of religious people marking their body is too personal to be confined as right or wrong. Usually the path they choose to follow with all the principles and beliefs it disseminates regarding the tattoos is what is determinant, but sometimes people decide to go against the will of the Believed and leave the last word to themselves. Nevertheless, getting a tattoo is a decision that people make pondering over many arguments. First of all, the idea of getting a tattoo was always counterintuitive from religious perspectives as People with paint on their body were mostly considered disreputable and evil. But those times are far behind and today every religion stands on its own while adjudicating on a matter of tattoos. For instance, religious tattoos are mostly associated with Christianity and it is a common thing for its followers to get an image of a cross or Jesus inked on their body, mainly with purpose to glorify the God and express their strong beliefs through something permanent. Other religious teachings where tattoos are not condemned are Buddhism and Hinduism, while Islam rigidly forbids any form of physical modification or mutilation as a sign of respect to the ... • 7. Alice Neel And Schiele Analysis Alice Neel and Egon Schiele were some of the most daring artists of their time. Neel was especially known for her uncaring attitude of what was in at the time, while Egon Schiele was similarly known to paint some of the most bold nude figures of his time. Both painted what they wanted, not a thought towards what was socially acceptable. They both focused on painting people around them, or in Neel s case, random people on the street, and Schiele was often compared to Picasso in his obsession with self portraits. Either way, while Alice Neel and Egon Schiele were from opposite sides of the planet, they shared a remarkably similar style of painting and rendering of the subjects in those paintings. Alice Neel wasn t noticed until much later... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Andy Warhol we see a sense of shame, but also acceptance and contentment by the light clasp of his hands, and the slight straining of his shoulders. His eyes are closed, which could either be out of fear of being seen, or a sense of peace at finally being seen. His lips are delicately pursed, which, again, shows that he could either be fighting the urge to cower and hide, or his own frustration with this desire, and his determination to continue. In addition to these many subtle expressions of emotion, we know that the actual man was known for his cool and confident attitude, which tells us just how much of a big deal his utter vulnerability truly is. Neel has stripped all outside masks, and has unearthed the frightened, old man beneath Warhol s suave persona. Conversely, we see nothing but aloofness and an impassioned gaze within Schiele s Self Portrait with Chinese Lantern. Schiele has drawn himself looking at the viewer with his chin held up and his shoulders tilted back, an aura of complete confidence and self importance all but oozing out of him. His face seems to ask, Is that all that you ve got? . The placement of his arms belies his face though, for they re tightly bound around his front, near his waist, showing that he may not be as self assured as he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Peter Reflection those classified in a certain category is well illustrated through the librarian who, when asked if Peter did anything to her, answers He didn t do anything, but he made me think that he is going to do something bad to me. So are you going to protect us? (52:43) Peter didn t do anything; however, the librarian by witnessing his abnormal behavior and finding out about his schizophreniaadapts her experience to something that could have been dangerous. Similar to how Hacking expects classificatory looping to work on those classified. She had an incomplete perception of the events and took his actions to be part of his irrationality, instead of Peter s attempt to find his daughter and stop the radio noises in his head. Throughout the movie, we see Peter as this schizophrenic doing irrational things like cutting his head and nail. Peter barely talks so the audience can only perceive him through these irrational actions. With this, the audience is left to interpret the parallel killings as Peter s work. It is only when Peter is with his daughter that he talks freely about his delusions and the audience starts seeing Peter as a rational human. (62:34) It is during his interaction with Nicole that there are no background noises, irrational behavior or delusions. The audience sees only an awkward father trying to connect with his daughter. P8.1 In a setting it is very often that practitioners will receive enquiries from parents and carers. It is therefore important to respond in the appropriate way. It is very important to follow up any enquiries from parents as this will show them that you care about their concerns or questions. Every practitioner should show and reassure the parents that their opinions and circumstances matter and will always be addressed to. • 10. Coevolution And Evolutionary Responses At First Thought Coevolution and Evolutionary Responses At first thought, it might seem as if everything is involved in coevolution. This assumption might be drawn due to the fact that basically every organism interacts with another organism and possibly influences their evolution in some way. However, this assumption depends entirely on one s definition of coevolution. There are many other forms of evolutionary responses other than coevolution including: evolutionary relationships between antagonists, evolutionary equilibrium, genetic variation in competitive ability, and character displacement, all which will be discussed later on. In fact, all of these evolutionary responses revolve around the idea that interacting populations tend to evolve in response to features which affect evolutionary strength. First, species evolve in ways that improve, or at least maintain, their ability to live. Communities, however, do not undergo the same process. No community evolves as a unit. Species may evolve in ways that are mostly influenced by ecology. This means that species evolve by their relationship with one or a few species, which in turn allows the others to evolve as well. Coevolution is commonly described as a change in the genetic composition of one species, or group, in response to a genetic change in another and was coined by Ehrlich and Raven after observing plant herbivore interactions. • 12. Our Social And Private Values Impact Our Lives Welcome to planet Earth, here on earth things are very differently than they are on Procyon A and B. Values and attitudes are what guide our day to day decisions on every aspect of our lives. It is very important to understand how our social and private values impact our everyday lives. I am going to tell you how we manage to stay organized here on earth. Some time ago, a man named Shalom H Schwartz came up with a theory on humanvalues which became known as The Schwartz Theory. The Schwartz Theory is something which explains how us humans experience every day in our lives. This theory proposes various human types made up of what he called Bipolar Dimensionwhich is then split up into 4 categories however, I will only mention the First and Second Bipolar Dimension below for now as they are most relatable ones. The First Bipolar Dimension includes Self Enhancement , which is the pursuit of one s own interests and relative success as the motivation that makes us humans feel good about ourselves. It is like a daily competition with ourselves and if that goal isn t achieved it tends to create in us feeling of a personal failure. Another category included in the first dimension is called Self Transcendence and it is measured by how far we come in our spiritual journey transcending our physical needs. We humans, must sometimes take time to ourselves thought the day to put our mind and body in a calm state. We sometimes do this using various ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is called selective attention, one of the dozens of cognitive differences associated with schizophrenia. Hallucinations are also a part of these disturbed perceptions. • 14. Haraway’s A Cyborg Manifesto Essay Donna J. Haraway s A Cyborg Manifesto Haraway s provocative proposal of envisioning the cyborg as a myth of political identity embodies the search for a code of displacement of the hierarchical dualisms of naturalized identities (CM, 175), and thus for the breakdown of the logic of phallogocentrism and of the unity of the Western idealized self. Haraway defines the cyborg as a cybernetic organism, a hybrid of machine and organism, a creature of social reality as well as a creature of fiction (CM, 149). The late twentieth century scientific culture in the United States has experienced three crucial boundary breakdowns: the boundary between human and animal is thoroughly breached the boundary between human and machine has become leaky and ambiguous the boundary between physical and non physical has become very imprecise in that the experience of fluidity and lightness made possible by signals and electromagnetic waves renders the physical both material and opaque, very near to quintessence. When boundaries are transgressed, the transcendent authorization of interpretation is lost, and with it the ontology grounding Western epistemology (CM, 153). They often analyze the various concepts put forward with the aim of explaining morality which would be the best approach to assess the credibility of the arguments for morality. Literature suggests that relativists hold onto their arguments based on the fact that various cultures tend to have varying moral belief systems. According to Jesse Prinz, the origins of our moral inclinations is merely cultural. For centuries, moral relativism has been recognized as a liberal doctrine that has had significant implications on the society s way of life, organization, and the perception of others. Realizing that relativism is real could help everyone individually by demonstrating that our treasured values are parochial and mutable. We ought to abandon the assumption that others share our beliefs and acknowledge that our moral values could have been different had we be born or had we lived in different conditions. In this manner, we will be able to be more flexible, open minded, and tolerant. However, the three serious shortcoming of the relativist theory makes it unattractive. • 29. Minimum Wage Should Be Increased Rebecca Nevins Meredith Sides English 101 16 November 2015 Minimum Wage Should Be Increased Congress enacted the federal minimum wage in 1938, during the Great Depression. Congress had two goals; keeping workers away from poverty and boosting consumer spending for economic recovery. Today, there is a debate, whether we should increase the minimum wageagain. Increasing the minimum wage is useful for several reasons. First, the current minimum wage has failed to keep up with inflation. Second, a higher income level reduces employee turnover and increases efficiency and ultimately, raising the minimum wage does not reduce employment. Even with high unemployment rates, the minimum wage is useful for the economy. Today the federal minimum wage is $7.25 per hour since July 24, 2009. It has failed to keep up with inflation. The real value of the minimum wage rose steadily from 1938 until its value reached a peak in 1968. Thereafter, it suffered severe erosion as Congress failed to adjust for the inflation over time. The minimum wage of $1.60 an hour in 1968 would be $10.47 today when adjusted for inflation. This means that the purchasing power of the minimum wage has decreased significantly over time. The current minimum wage is no longer enough to protect workers out of poverty. A person who earns the minimum wage and works full time (40 hours/week, 52 weeks/year) only earns about $12,000 in a year. This is almost $7,000 below the poverty line for a family of three ($19,090) ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For some, however, they may never have a person who gives them this push, or perhaps someone had the opportunity to be that person who does the pushing, but does not. Many people have been propelled to success because of the care of another person. Some of these positive influences may include a parent, minister, or a friend. The feeling of someone going out learning how to be a good person and doing it based upon my actions is priceless, and will benefit more many more than I may ever know about. Not only Jesus himself was a Jew, but also his followers and very first members of the new growing community were mainly Jews. They all shared the Jewish belief, the Sacred Scripture that Christians later started to call the Old Testament (OT), and were not aware of founding a new religion. We will have a closer look at places of worship, liturgical sources and customs which were common at that time. A last task will be to ask whether there are any significant Jewish elements... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are some references to this pattern in the gospels (e.g. Lk 2,38; Mt 11,25 30; Jn 11,41 42). Further we will see how some of these prayers in connection with the domestic Jewish worship were essential for the Christian liturgy of the Eucharist. D. The third main place of Jewish worship was home, especially during the time of meal. In the OT the communion of meal and feast was understood as a sign of covenant (eg. Gen 26,30). The Sabbath as a day was a special sign of covenant with God (Ex 31, 13 15) and so was the meal. The main meal of the year was the Passover meal, as a memorial day for the Lord s passover in Egypt and deliverance from slavery (Ex 12). The weekly Sabbath meal on Friday evenings and the yearly Passover meal thus became quite elaborate. Bradshaw reminds that there is unfortunately no detailed evidence about meal prayers in the first century, but according to the later evidence many assume that every meal started with berakot (plural of berakah) and ended with them. The opening berakot were pronounced over wine and bread, while the berakot at the end of the meal, called Birkat ha mazon, consisted of a berakah for food, a hodayah for revelation and a tefillah for redemption (Bradshaw: 44f; Kavanagh: 621). Then many businessmen like Andrew Carnegie, John D Rockefeller, and Cornelius Vanderbilt had big industrial tycoons which had a massive benefit for them and for their society because they had an increase in mass production which ultimately changed the face of the United States of America from being a rural society into being an urban society. Family relations started to weaken during the second revolution in America and New England because with new employment opportunities for women, men and children in New England and America, families had the ability to become free or separate from each other, move away, or have an employment in which their gender or age might not have otherwise allowed today. In short, the Industrial Revolution in early America created a standard of hard work, individuality, and in some cases, an equal amount of importance dedicated to career and family. All in all, the second industrial revolution was essentially a positive thing because many benefits came out of it such as new ideas, innovations, and inventions. • 55. US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Company Background: Takata Corporation, founded in 1933 in Shiga Prefecture, Japan as a textile manufacturer using weaving technology to manufacture lifelines. Piqued by American research on adding safety belts to cars, Takata began doing their own research in 1952 using parachute technology to manufacturer seat belts. In 1973 Takata began to voluntarily participate in the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) crash test. Takata was the only company out of six other companies to clear the 32.3 mph crash standard. It was in 1979 that Takata began to research air bags and begin developing child restraint systems. By 1983 Takata was supplying 800 air bags to various U.S. institutions and in 1988 established Highland Industries... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since air bags are a standardized component within the final product, the slightest defect can wind up affecting millions of vehicles. As safety is Takata s motto they should have better quality systems in place that would minimize the number of defective standardized products given the sheer volume produced. Takata ought to have taken a more diligent approach to the defects and addressed the public s safety concerns sooner than six years after a death occurred as a result of their product. Furthermore, Takata cited driver safety as the reason for its controversial refusal to comply with federal regulators who want a national recall of its airbags. I believe that Takata was not prepared for a full scale recall so they decided to pursue a more hands off approach which was truly not in their best interest. Because Takata prolonged the recall investigation, they were faced with several penalties, fines and fees and as a result of their lack of effort to correct the problem, company shares have fallen and Takata is reporting a net loss. There is also the potential for Takata to lose some of their customers; however, it is important to note that Takata is only one of three companies producing air bags. Due to the minimal choices automakers have for suppliers with regards to air bags, it reasons that Takata might not be concerned with their position in the supply chain as the automakers would not favor a duopoly. • 59. The Weight Of The Weigh Boat On A Balance Procedure: 1.Measure the original weight of the weigh boat on a balance because you will need to subtract the measurements of the elements and then get the exact mass. 2.Measure the original weight of a beaker on a balance because the beaker will be used for the salt, and you will need to subtract the mass with salt in it from the original 3.Place the mixture onto a weigh boat and measure its original weight so that you can record it on the data table 4.Pour the mixture from a weigh boat onto a filter paper and spread it apart because you need to take out all the iron with a magnet 5.Then use a magnet and take out the iron from the mixture because iron is the only thing that is magnetic in the mixture 6.Place the iron on a weigh boat so that you have it separated from the other elements 7.Then measure the weigh boat by using a balance to find the mass 8.Subtract the original weigh boat mass from the one with iron in it and then record the correct measurement for iron because the weight of the iron is affected by the weight of the weigh boat so it will not be right until you subtract the weigh boat s mass 9.Pour the mixture of the remaining salt and sand onto a weigh boat and add water so that the salt will become soluble and the sand will float down to the bottom 10.Place a clean filter paper on top of a beaker 11.Pour the mixture mixed with water over the filter paper so that the sand remains on top of the paper and the soluble salt water will go through into the beaker ...
