American Prison System Essay
American Prison Systems
Introduction
In many countries national prisons are operated and supplemented by provinces and state
counterparts. Prisoners are held in prisons and jails throughout the country and globally convicted
of various crimes and offenses. The nature of the offense determines where the prisoner is held and
the lengths of times. There are institutions that vary in level of security in both the state and federal
prison system. However, the majority of prisoners are sentenced and housed in state facilities in
high security facilities.

Taxpayers will experience an increase of approximately $27.5 billion over the next five years that
will be spent on prison and the prison system. (Riordan 2007).
Overcrowding in the state prison system is a continuing problem and is increasingly
uncomfortable. Capacity levels have risen in both operating and capacity in both state and federal
prison systems. This has caused local and state facilities to make inmates double up in prison cells.
In other words, cells that would normally hold to inmates at a time are now holding more convicts.
This causes even more tension and friction between inmates.
Types of Institutions
There are two types of institutions in the United States, that is private and government ran
institutions. The privately ran institutions are paid for from the states government and commonly a
lower cost to the state. The down side however, is that these facilities can choose who comes in as
an inmate or employee. The state ran facilities are a little more expensive than privately run
facilities.
Security Levels Types of Criminals
Identify the five state prison systems
There are five state prison systems in which exist in today s penitentiary systems and they are
maximum security prisons, close high security prisons, medium security prisons, and open security
facilities. Variations between these five systems are common and uncommon because in a

Castro Marxism Essay
Fidel Castro got interested in the idea of Marxism when he wed his first wife and was exposed
to a certain type of posh lifestyle, that he barely saw as a child. So, he was very influenced by
the people in this class, they re government views and beliefs rubbed off on him easily: so he
decided to run for a seat on the Cuban congress. One of the beliefs that Castro absorbed was
Marxism, the idea that every single piece of written human history has been divided by economical
classes and every progression in history has happened due to economic struggle. Also, communism
will become the norm because the of this struggle and capitalism will no longer be needed. Well,

due to his radical changes and his ideas. He nationalized all of the industries and collectivized
agriculture but he dissembled all U.S. businesses and farms in Cuba. He was stepping on U.S. s toes
when he decided to have strong relations with Russia. The U.S. wanted Castro out of power, so the
U.S. constructed the Bay of Pigs invasion, a CIA attempt to use anti Castro exiles to use a surprise
attack against Castro, but they were outnumbered by Castro s troops. By 1962, the U.S. placed
an embargo on Cuba and all trade, travel, and business with Cuba was cut off. In the same year,
Castro allowed Russia to put missile sites in Cuba. Castro did this so he can threaten the U.S.
The United States surrounded Cuba to block off any deliveries from Russia. This led to the
Cuban Missile Crisis. Over years, Cuban people suffered from food shortages and no personal
freedoms. No country wanted to trade with Cuba because of the bad blood between them and the
U.S., so Cuba s economy suffered but Russia was keeping them afloat. But after the Soviet Union s
fall, Cuba suffered greatly. But besides that, Cubans has an excellent educational system and

Self Hypnosis Vs Subliminal Messages
Both self hypnosis and subliminal messages recordings use the subconscious mind to bring about
positive change in a persons life. There are all types of self hypnosis downloads as well as
subliminal messages recordings for all types of positive life changes.
Self hypnosis can be used without a recording or download. whereas subliminal messages will need
to be either embedded as spoken words in a recording, words in a video, or words flashed upon a
screen like your computer monitor.
Because self hypnosis, once learned, can be used anytime, anywhere, it may be the chosen strategy
for positive change using your subconscious mind and positive suggestions. This is not to say that
using subliminal messages for change is wrong. It just means

Essay about Running
Running is very good for humans in many different ways. It is a great way to get exercise, and a
great way to meet new people. There are many positives, and some negatives, it is easy, enjoyable
and makes humans more social, you can do it at anytime, and it relieves stress rather than give
stress. Although there are some negatives with running, there are also many positives. Many people
run because of the health reasons. It is good for the heart and lungs and people run in the fresh air.
Running outside rather than inside is good for you too because of the fresh air. Running also
relieves tension, by running, people can think about their problems without having to worry about

There can also be too much competition which happens when there are people competing for a
prize. People can also get discouraged when running because some are doing it to lose weight
and some do not lose weight. People can also hit the wall when running which happens when a
person overdoes their exercise and can be physically harmed. Although there are some negatives,
there are more positives to running. Running is easy, enjoyable and is very social. Many people
see running as a good place to meet new people and enjoyable to do, it is also one of the easiest
ways to exercise. Running can be very fun, it is easy because you need no experience to run.
Training for races is also fun it can be done by men and women, girls and boys at any age. You
can meet new people who can be very social able, you can meet new people by either running by
yourself or with a friend or spouse. People of all sizes and races and ages can run it is a great
way to meet new people and a great way to exercise. Running is a great way to exercise and you
could do it anytime and anywhere. People can run either on streets or on paths, but paths are a bit
more ideal. Running is more ideal to do on hard surfaces, but is better exercise if you do it on
uneven ground. You can run too fast and you can run too far but whether you run fast or far you are
still running and are still getting exercise. To prevent getting hurt while running

Investigating the Effect of Lipase Concentration on the Breakdown of Fat in Milk
INTRODUCTION:
Enzymes are proteins which can catalyse chemical reactions without changing themselves. The
enzyme lipase breaks down the fat in dairy products such as full cream milk for people who are
lactose intolerant. Lipase acts on its specific substrate, lipids produces fatty acids. If enzyme
concentration increases, random collisions between the substrates and active sites of enzyme
increase due to the increasing amount of active sites which allow more collisions to happen, so the
rate of breakdown of lipids to simpler substances will increase. During the experiment, sodium
carbonate solution and pH indicator phenolphthalein will be added ahead of ... Show more content

If more were placed in one of the test tubes, then the rate of activity of the enzyme at different
concentrations will be wrongly judged, leading to incorrect conclusion.

laboratory with the windows shut to make sure the temperature will not change during the tests.
The higher the temperature, the shorter the time will be needed for the chemical reactions to
happen and phenolphthalein to turn from pink to colourless.
Dependent Variable:
1. The time for the phenolphthalein to turn from pink to colourless will be taken using the

Ignorance, Ignorance And Ignorance
According to Mark Lilla s Ignorance and Bliss , The source of the proverb Ignorance is Bliss is a
poem by the 18th century English poet Thomas Gray, who wrote in passing: Where ignorance is
bliss/ Tis folly to be wise (Lilla). At the time the proverb was referring to the Enlightenment and
Christianity s glorification of blind faith, and its renunciation of both scientific reason and
philosophical inquiry; however, today, it can be interpreted as whether or not man has the ability to
maintain happinessin the midst of unhappiness. Is ignorancereally bliss? Can it serve as a way to
avoid anxieties, or would repression of issues only lead to more dissatisfaction? Webster s
dictionary defines ignorance as lack of knowledge, education, or awareness. However, it can
also be seen as a refusal to acknowledge information. Bliss is defined as complete happiness.
Does the idea of ignorance is bliss really hold true? Can happiness be a byproduct of a lack of
knowledge and awareness, or the flat out refusal to acknowledge? The people of Omelas seemed
to have achieved that. The townspeople of Omelas live in a prosperous Utopian town where
everyone is happy, but in order to maintain their way of life a child must be subjected to inhuman
treatment and suffering, They all know it is there, all the people of Omelas...[T]hey all understand
that their happiness...depends wholly on this child s abominable misery (Le Guin). How can they
allow such atrocities to take place? Well, as Mark

Paper Towns By Margo Roth Spiegelman
Paper Towns
The book circuits around teenagers who s about to graduate from high school. The two main
characters is called Quentin Jacobsen and Margo Roth Spiegelman. Q and Margo have been
living next to each other since forever and used to play together when they were children. When
they were nine they made a horrible discovery in the playground near their home, they had found
a body. As Q backed away, Margo went forward and we get to see how differently the experience
affects them. Margo had always loved mysteries, Q says in the beginning of the book: Maybe she
loved mysteries so much she became one . When they got to high school their friendship grew apart
and Margo became one of the popular girls, while Q had his small gang of friends. So they
basically didn t speak to one another until one night when Margo knocks on Qs window and
asks him to follow her on her road trip of revenge . Quentin was doubtful, because of the fact that
he did not want to get in any trouble, but he couldn t resist. The day after their adventure Margo
doesn t show up at school and Q gets worried, even though she is known for running away. It
turns out Margo has left clues from her disappearance, like a trail of breadcrumbs for Q to follow. ...

Media In The Spanish American War
On Feb 15, 1898 the Maine had been ward in Havana harbor for three weeks without ny incidents
so the United States Navy sailors crew were anxious to get back to America. Captain Sigsbee,
who was the commander of the Maine, later recalled that the Marine sergeant who played taps
on the bugle was achieving some elaborate flourishes at night but the sailors felt pure tranquility.
As sailors aboard the Maine began falling asleep, an explosion came from the front end of the
ship. At about 11 pm Captain Sigsbee wired Washington: Maine blown up in Havana harbor at
9:40 tonight and destroyed. Many wounded and doubtless more killed or drowned . To be exact,
the explosion had killed 266 US sailors. Hurst and many other Americans blamed the Spanish...

Hurst, and Joseph Pulitzer, practiced yellow journalism in their articles and exaggerated what
was happening during that time. There is even a quote by Hurst where he said to Frederic
Sackrider Remington, an illustrator for the Journal, You furnish the pictures and I ll furnish the
war. Hurst s newspapers had stories about female prisoners, executions, valiant rebels fighting,
and starving women and children, describing the situation in Cuba to tug at Americans heart
strings. They also used romance to exaggerate the events taking place. Through 1897, the New
York newspapers portrayed Cuba as a damsel in distress, the U.S as her savior, and Spain as the
villain. When the USS Maine sunk in Havana Harbor, the Hurst newspapers with no evidence,
blamed the Spanish, so Americans believed that this was true and demanded to get back at Spain.
Some historians today are convinced that the Spanish American War was the first press driven war
and that it fueled the public s passion for war, because if the newspapers kept things accurate and
unexaggerated, they believe the mood for Cuban intervention would probably have been very
different and much more

Essay on Altruism
Why do we show altruism? Social and evolutionary biologists, psychologists, economists and
philosophers alike have made many attempts at providing an explanation for altruism. As a result,
many opposing theories have developed over the years. In this essay, I will attempt to explain
altruism as the presence of an altruistic gene which is selected for by natural selectionin terms of kin
selection. I will explore evidence supporting this theory, as well as evidence pointing to
psychological explanations such as reciprocal altruism, social norms and primitive sympathy.
First, it is important to understand what altruism is. Altruism is any act carried out by an individual
in order to benefit another individual. [1, 2] At first glance, ... Show more content on

Nevertheless, one recent study suggests that genetic differences between our ancestors could have
resulted in lethal intergroup competition which disfavoured non altruists [6]. I will attempt to link
this theory to what is known as kin selection. Kin selection explains altruism as an act increasing
the probability of an individual s genes being transmitted to the next generation. [3] We share half of
our genes our siblings and parents, and a quarter with cousins, nephews and nieces. [1, 2] Therefore,
altruistic behaviour towards these individuals would result in our genes passing on due to their
higher probability of survival. This is known as increasing one s inclusive fitness. [7] Since early
human societies included members genetically related to one another, [6] kin selection between
these individuals resulted in the societies growing in size. Thus, societies genetically predisposed in
displaying co operative, altruistic behaviour towards each other (through acts such as group
hunting, mutually defending each other, and sharing food) are more capable of surviving, resulting
in the altruistic gene surviving.[1] This, I believe, is the predominant explanation for altruism in
humans today. The act of altruism is a genetic inheritance evolving through the basic instinct of
survival and continuity of species.
Other theorists however,

Prosecutions In Victorian London
Prosecutions in Victorian London By:Justice Crawford
Over two hundred years ago in Victorian London, merchants would cut thieves fingers off for
stealing fruit from their market. In the early nineteenth century, court conditions and the treatment
of both the victim and the accused was very different from today. Trials in court were often very
quick. Prosecutors, judges and jurors had more power and choice. Punishments varied based on
the criminals social class and gender. If the accuser was pleaded guilty it would be nearly
impossible to plead their innocence even if there was significant evidence. The Victorians were very
distraught about crime. Levels rose sharply towards the end of the 18th century and continued to rise

Since whites were the settlers of London they had more privileges than immigrants and blacks.
In the article, Victorian London written by David Ross, Ross explains the life of a regular
citizen in Victorian London. During the time where immigrants and blacks migrated to London,
whites started to make their own local police force called Bobbies . On page 12, Ross writes In
1829 Sir Robert Peel founded the Metropolitan Police to handle law and order in areas outside
the City proper. These police became known as Bobbies after their founder. The early part of the
19th century was the golden age of steam. The first railway in London was built from London
Bridge to Greenwich in 1836, and a great railway boom followed. Major stations were built at
Euston (1837), Paddington (1838), Fenchurch Street (1841), Waterloo (1848), and King s Cross
(1850). This quote says that with the help of slaves and workers London built wonderful
attractions such as the Paddington and King s Cross. Also on page 15, it says The workers in
London were not only facing competition from their fellow countrymen, but also from people
across Europe like the Irish and the Jewish, who came to London to find jobs. The 19th century
London was the world s largest city and a political, economic and trading capital of Britain. The

The statue is recognized as a universal symbol of freedom and democracy. Brought to the United
States as segments, the Statue of Liberty stands in the New York Harbor on Ellis Island. The
idea for the statue was inspired by the works of Abraham Lincoln. The Statue has changed over
time, physically and ideologically. Between 1886 and 1924, Lady Liberty became a symbol of
hope and opportunity for a new life. The Statue of Liberty became a major port of entrance for
millions of European immigrants. Many who entered the New York Harbor were escaping tyranny,
oppression, and poverty. To these anxious newcomers, the Statue s uplifted torch did not suggest
enlightenment, as her creators intended, but rather, welcome. A poem called The New Colossus,
written by Emma Lazarus was mounted on the statue s pedestal in the early 1900s. It states, Give

What Key Event Happened In 1990
Questions:
1)What key event happened in 1947, as depicted early in the film, and how do you feel this may
have affected the young Aung San Suu Kyi s attitude toward politics in her later life?
In 1947, Kyi was only 2 years old when her father led a movement for the independence of Burma.
Named Aung San, her father paved the way for the independence of Burma. However, shortly after
the independence, he was assassinated along with his several colleagues. The people who
assassinated him were masked and in proper uniforms.
After the incident, Kyi was sent to England, however, this incident would have made her revengeful
that she used in a positive sense to support democracy and betterment of Burma.

political situation there? Why do you think she became involved, even though she had not

badly these people need a change and reform in Burma for their actual independence.
3)What key event happened in 1990, and what were the reactions of Aung San Suu Kyi and her
supporters, as well as the reaction of the military rulers?
In 1990, elections were held in Burma where Kyi and her party won by majority. While Kyi and
her supporters were happy and confident of their win and probable reforms, the military refused to
accept the results of elections. She was put under house arrest while her family including husband

Concealed Weapons Research Paper
Concealed Carry Weapons
I took a look at gun control and how society feels about it. I looked at if people thought that you
should have a permit to carry a weapon. I looked at age, income and if they owned a gun. This is a
small survey that looks at my classmates thought. This survey was conducted by Survey Monkey.
1PURPOSE
In this survey I was looking at how people felt about concealed weapons. I wanted to take a look
at some of their thoughts on who should be allowed to carry. How age affected there choices on
this matter. Would sex and race have an effect on this? How housing could affect the answer.
Whether or not income had a large effect on the results in the survey.
2PROCEDURE
In the beginning of the survey I asked personal questions. I then followed that up by asking their
thoughts on rights to own a gun and if a permit should be required. I ended the survey by asking
about age, sex, race and income. I tried to come up with straight forward easy questions to ask. I
wanted the questions to be familiar and easy to answer; questions that wouldn t be confusing. I
wanted to receive unbiased answers.

responses. Yet the survey was very narrow and didn t involve different ethnicities the results were

William Blake Literary Analysis
What is now proved was once only imagined.
(Ed. Mason, Michael. William Blake: Selected Poetry. Oxford World Classics, 2008.)
This paper started with a quote which mainly emphasize on the power of imagination. The line
which is quoted above, said by one of the early romantic poet, one who never went to university,
never took opium, did not end up his life in a very tender age, never left England, did not went on
any Grand tour in his life span, did not have any illicit or failed affairs or relationships, had no one
who would call him father and unfortunately never got the fame during his own lifetime. He is the
one, who shine out like a star whenever one talks about Mysticism and Imagination in English
Literature, William Blake. What he says about Imagination is
The Imagination is not a state: it is the human existence itself.
(Damon, Samuel Foster. Ed. Eaves Morris. A Blake Dictionary: The Ideas and Symbol Of William
Blake. UPNE, 1988.)
After reading his thoughts about imagination and the power of imagination one could able to
recognize that he believes in the imaginary world around him. He talks about angels and God like
figures which could be seen by him only, which proves him as true mystic.
After knowing the fact that he was a mystic, the next questions which struck the minds is what is
Mysticism? What is so fascinating in mysticism which makes him a mystic?
Here is the answer, according to the Oxford English Dictionary, Mysticism is a Belief that union
with or absorption into the deity or the absolute, or the spiritual apprehension of knowledge
inaccessible to the intellect, may be attained through contemplation and self surrender . It also
comes with another definition which says, Vague or ill defined religious or spiritual belief,
especially a belief in the occult . So, basically it is somehow related to the kind of religious beliefs
a person have. Actually, Blake was a non conformist. Non conformism refers in history to religious
groups that had alienated from the Church of England in the course of the seventeenth and
eighteenth centuries. Such people had groups like Baptists, Methodists, Puritans, Quakers and
Unitarians. Few researchers believe that his parents were Swedenborgians or readers

Reseach Proposal-Consumer Behaviour to Change in Packaging...
CONSUMER BEHAVIOUR TO CHANGE IN PACKAGING DESIGN OF FMCG PRODUCTS.
Introduction
Design is increasingly used by firms as a strategy to create a substantial competitive advantage.
Good design uniquely differentiates a product. Companies mastering the art of design have
emerged as leaders in their respective markets. In this proposal, i examine how consumers respond
to the visual aspects of packaging design and benefits of studying consumer behavior.
The importance of packaging design as a vehicle for communication and branding is growing in
competitive markets for packaged FMCG products. This research utilized a focus group
methodology to understand consumer behavior toward such products. The challenge for
researchers is to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In time, packaging weight has decreased as compared to the packed product. Nevertheless,
consumption patterns have generated a higher packaging volume because of the constant changes
in demography and life styles. It is the volume of packaging and not so much its weight that
attracts critical eyes (Calver, 2004). In addition, the predilection for pre packed food has increased
the amount of plastic waste within the general waste flow.
ConsumerPsychologist.com, part of the University of Southern California, define consumer
behaviour as the study of individuals, groups or organizations and the processes they use to select,
secure, use and dispose of products, services, experiences or ideas to satisfy needs. Essentially,
consumer behavior deals with how frequently a person or organization may purchase an item from
a company. It closely relates to elements of customer service such as problem resolution and overall
satisfaction and to marketing strategies such as pricing, promotion and product placement.
Why Study Consumer Behaviour?
Understanding consumer behaviour may lead to changes in the design of a pilot product, a product
s packaging or its position within the store. Understanding why customers buy what they do also
helps a company create campaigns to encourage repeat purchase and referrals.
Consumers make decisions for different

Family relationships are a common theme in novels or television shows. One of the most famous
and successful contemporary animated sitcoms in television is The Simpsons which portrays the
family and its dynamics in a very satirical way. Before The Simpson appeared on television, the
traditional American familyof the 1950s was considered as the perfect one. It was a patriarchal
family where the father went to work, the mother raised the children while taking care of the

Final Milestone Part 2
Final Milestone Part Two: Policy Research and More Sarah Harris Southern New Hampshire
University Economic Theories and Principles Every healthcare organization in our country relies
on financial and economic gains. In other words, without these two important factors, no
healthcare facility would ever survive. For example, healthcare facilities rely on supplies, staff
and the proper financial knowledge. In fact, the price and amount of healthcare supplies are
rising, which in turn can increase the cost of healthcare (Kabene et al.). Therefore, in non profits
like Yale New Haven Hospital, it is important to have an adequate balance of supplies in order to
allow the healthcare providers to practice efficiently. For instance, there needs to be enough
supplies in order for the doctors to keep up with the high demand of incoming patients. When there
is a rise in the demand of healthcare supplies such as shots, medication, vaccines etc., the more the
market will produce, allowing more money to be made. The healthcare markets will be producing
financial gains and so will the hospitals that are distributing these goods, which causes supply and
demand to be at an all time high. Either way, without the availability of healthcare staff and
supplies, the financial well being of any hospital would be non existent and so would the healthcare
market and that is why there is a strong relationship between the two. There are two main economic

Economic Collapse Of Rome In The Fourth Century
The Dependent Dominoes Did you know that economic collapses of countries have been dated
back all the way to the fourth century? For example, the economic collapse of Rome in the fourth
century. The problem that Rome suffered from with was an issue with their currency, gold coins,
which contained more gold than was labeled. This caused rapid inflation because the citizens
melted the coins to make a profit by selling the raw gold at a higher price. Another example is the
economic downfall of the Spanish empire in the second half of the sixteenth century. Spain was

An irrational phenomena in a financial contagion is built when co movement occurs from the
behaviors of investors that influence financial globalization which can be risk aversion, lack of
confidence, and financial fears. A financial crisis that lasts two or more quarters is called a
recession, while a longer or more severe recession is called a depression. One of the biggest
impacts of a financial crisis are aimed at banks. During a financial crisis, people withdraw their
money from banks due to their fear that the banks will lose their money. This is bad news for the
banks for the obvious reason that they are losing money. If all goes bad and the banks use up all
of their reserve money, they would have no choice but to liquidate their assets and file for loans
once too many people start withdrawing, in order to pay back the people s money. If a bank

The Cask Of Amontillado Essay
In a famous tale written by Edgar Allen Poe known as The Cask of Amontillado the main
character, Montresor, lured his old friend, Fortunato, deep into the depths of a catacomb and
proceeded to murder him as revenge. Many mysterious and horrible things have occurred in
catacombs everywhere. Explorers find more and more reasons everyday to travel through various
nightmare filled quarries in an attempt to uncover the history hidden under the surface of Paris,
Rome, and other locations spread around the world. These underground cemeteries have a more
gruesome history than what you might believe, not as surprising as murder, but it still is quite
intriguing. The first people believed to take advantage of catacombswere early Christians and Jews.

They have also been used as funerals, services, and hiding places. During the times of
persecution amongst Jews and Christians, they would hide and live deep in the hidden rooms of
catacombs to avoid being captured. (Columbia Electronic Encyclopedia, 6th Edition) Another
time that they were used to avoid death was during World War II. (Shea) They have also been
used as shrines. During an illegal tour in 2009, Virgin Mary statues were found hanging in
different positions along the walls. (AFP News Agency) In the Paris Catacombs, along with
being used for French Resistance fighters to hide in, they were also used for mining. Throughout
the 19th century, farmers mined stones for buildings and continued to plant mushrooms in the
soil below. (Shea) Many forms of entertainment are provided underneath the city of Paris. Tours
are held in the Paris Catacombs from 10am to 8pm and goes two kilometers, which lasts up to
approximately 45 minutes. There are 130 steps down and 83 steps to get back to street level. Only
200 people per tour are allowed in the catacombs at any time. (The Catacombs: Official

Sonnet 146
Sonnet 146 is well known for its deeply intriguing religious aspect, as it is one of Shakespeare s
religious sonnets and almost the only religious one. It is religious as its tone mentions its concern
with heaven, asceticism and also the progress of the soul all through out the sonnet. The idea that
the poet was trying to convey to his audience is that the body exists at the expense of the soul, so
that adorning or worrying about its beauty can only be accomplished at the souls expense. The
poem is an internal monologue, which makes it first person point of view. This helps the audience
understand that he is talking to himself and whom he is talking about. This sonnetcan also be
referred to as mediation between the soul and the body... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The words poor and sinful are both negative. We can understand through this negative tone that the
poet or the earth in this sonnet is a bad place and we then link sinful to ungodliness, which is what
the whole poem is about.
Another example of metaphor used in this poem is found in the second quatrain; fading mansion
which is used the represent our body. This metaphor explains that our souls are slowly dying and
becoming very dull and fading as we do not live our lives like we are suppose to, according to the
poet.
In line 13 so shalt thou feed on death , gives us the audience a thought that we must constantly be
thinking about death and also as a part of human nature we ponder about life. In other words, for
this metaphor, we as humans feed on death, which in turns feeds on us.
Why so large a cost, having so short a lease this lease refers to life, which is short as we as
humans are not immortal. This metaphor asks why we as humans put so much effort into life when
death comes so quickly.
Closing couplet:
The metaphor from the 3rd quatrain is continued and expanded in the closing couplet. It finishes
from the 1st quatrain of the starving person within the mansion and then turns into irony of the
idea that death feeds on humans. And in the last lines, death and dying are words used as imagery
to describe and give us the final image of eternal life.
Shakespeare, with the use of vivid imagery,

The Vexing Question
The Vexing Question The cause most to blame for the the outbreak of war in 1914 was the
assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand. Austria Hungary s unwavering feud, or competition,

Franz Ferdinand s death as an alibi for an acquisition that had deliberately unacceptable demands

Theme Of The Lamb To The Slaughter By Roald Dahl
Roald Dahl has successfully presented creepy moments and ideas in his writing by the very
uncommon, but realistic scenarios the characters are put in, word choice, and character
development. The author gives very little background information at the beginning of the story
causing the reader to be surprised with how the characters develop throughout the story. One way
the author has presented scary ideas was by putting the characters in scenarios that are possible to
happen to anyone, yet they are very unlikely. In The Landlady, the main characteris your average
businessman just looking for a place to stay for the night in a town he s not familiar with. He
decides to stay in a bed and breakfast ran by an old lady who keeps her guests... Show more content

She was just going home with the vegetables on Thursday evening to cook dinner for her
husband. The reader knows the real story, in which that one is not true. This is creepy because
now there is suspense toward whether or not she is going to get away with the story she tells
everyone. Comparatively, the author presents menacing and fearsome ideas by character
development. In The Landlady, the woman presents herself and a very pleasurable, harmless
soul. The text says, ..she gave him a warm welcoming smile. Toward the end, she keeps that eerie
smile, but she starts to give hints letting him know that she s going to kill him. Throughout the
story she mentions Mr Mulholland and Mr Perkins staying in her bed and breakfast. The text
says, .. she looked up at him out of the corners of her eyes and gave him another gentle little
smile. No, my dear, she said Only you. The way this developed in a creepy way was because she
was giving vague answers, making it seem like the two men she killed, were alive and in their
rooms. In Lamb to the Slaughter, the main character is six months pregnant and married. When
the police come to search for evidence, they eat it. The police were unforeseeable, assuming the
lady who offered them to stay for dinner, wouldn t be a suspect of killing the man who is
pregnant with her child. This is scary because not only is there a killer on the loose, but they will
never find out it was her because there is no evidence due

Analysis Of Conrad s The Heart Of Darkness
The world a century and a half ago was a radically different place. Not all land in the world had
definite geopolitical boundaries. Many people of more advanced civilizations looked down upon
those with lesser technology. There were still places to be colonized and civilized. Imperialism in
the 1800s and 1900s generally followed five stereotypes. Black peopleare a separate and lesser
species. Natives are generally thought of as being savages. Under the right circumstances, anyone
can lose touch with his/her humanity. Greed can drive people to extremes. Imperialism hurts those
conquering and those being conquered.
The main stereotype presented was that black people are a separate and lesser species. In Conrad s

Besides people dying from war, Europeans in the Congo did not have immunity to the African
diseases so many suffered and died.
Under the right circumstances, anyone can lose his/her humanity. Marlow transplanted himself
into a land nearly the opposite to his home country. England was civilized and unified while the
Congo was neither. Marlow was exposed to death and despair and became a changed man. He
saw human heads posted on stakes and instead of being shocked, he surprised another onlooker
excessively by laughing (Conrad). Instead of one individual losing sight of his humanity, an entire
nation did when the Andrew Jackson sealed the Red Man s problem during his presidency
(Johnson). The American people stood idly by in the name of Manifest Destiny while thousands of
people were forced out of their homeland.
Greed can drive people to extremes. Kurtz was hauled away from his fort in the jungle and
instead of being thankful for being rescued, he could only speak my ivory, my station, my river
(Conrad). Kurtz was lying on his deathbed and was entirely consumed by the thought of losing
material things. Kurtz wanted to stay with his riches so passionately that he sent natives to kill the
people who were supposed to be retrieving him. Another extremely lucrative trade item besides
ivory was sugar which was easily grown in Hawaii. Planters, mostly U.S. citizens, made an effort

The Importance Of Morality In New Zealand
New Zealand is a geographically isolated country in the Pacific Ocean. It has a population of an
estimated 4.2 million according to the latest five yearly census conducted in 2013 (2013 Census).
Of the census surveyed population in 2013, 47.65% classified themselves as Christian, with 41.92%
having no religion and 1.18% following Islam(New Zealand Population (2017)). Islam is the
religious faith of Muslims, based on their sacred text, the Quran, which their god Allah revealed to
the Prophet Muhammadin the early 600s. Muslims recognize the Quran as the fundament of Islamic
law known as Sharia, politics, culture, and religion. Sharia dictates that all food consumed by
Muslims be halal, a term meaning that it is permissible for consumption.... Show more content on

Other Sharia conditions include killing the animal with a single knife cut below the Adam s
Apple, so that both the respiratory and jugular veins are cut, forcing the animal to bleed out and
thus die. In New Zealand, as shown in the Commercial Slaughter Code of Welfare, it is
mandatory to stun all animals so they are unconscious prior to slaughter and the animal must
remain unconscious until the animal is deemed dead. Asia Pacific Halal Services New Zealand
agrees that stunning of animals is permissible as long as the heart is not stopped. The meat
inspector stamps all carcasses once they meet the halal requirements, regardless whether for
export or for the domestic market. Currently, there are no regulations for labeling halal meat for
the New Zealand domestic market. The lack of halal labeling contributes to a perceived erosion of
religious freedom. Halal is an important issue for Muslims as they are forbidden to eat non halal or
haram, meaning not permissible, food. The Quran has several verses relating to halal but the most
relevant one is:
So eat of that [meat] upon which the name of Allah has been mentioned, if you are believers in
His verses. And do not eat of that upon which the name of Allah has not been mentioned, for
indeed, it is grave disobedience. (Ali, Y English Quran 6:118, 121).
By not obeying the dietary laws contained in Sharia, a Muslim will not have any of his good deeds
recognized by Allah and will be denied admittance into Paradise.

Lesbian Identity Politics and Associated Organizations Essay
Identity politics were a major part of social reform in the Sixties and Seventies. Yet, the advent of
identity politic reform originates in the Fifties, a decade that saw the African American Civil Rights
Movement start to gain momentum. On the heels of the Civil Rights movement, we also see the
Women s Liberation Movement begin to gain steam, shortly thereafter followed by the Gay
LiberationMovement. And as an offshoot of these reform movements, we observe the dawn of
lesbian identity politicsa movement very much its own amongst its predecessors. One sect would

After delivering the food, and being understandably annoyed with the task, she was belittled by a
male protestor who would have her as a sexual reward for sitting in. Black feminists, such as those
in the Combahee River Collective, experienced very similar discrimination in Civil Rights
campaigns, especially groups like the Black Panthers. Just like Jay, many African American women
were used as sexual remuneration to men who did good work within their organizations. This
patriarchy, antithetic to the goals of feminism, was the undoubted enemy of both these lesbian
organizations usurping it became one clear goal. The Combahee River Collective, though, did not
feel separate from African American men concerning race, yet, felt doubly oppressed by white
patriarchy. Understanding that they connected with black men racially, yet struggled with them
sexually, almost supplements the idea that white men who controlled government and economy
were the ultimate oppressor. They did not feel they were separate, but rather, just opposed to black
men along patriarchal lines. Inversely, the Collective connected with white lesbians against
patriarchy, but were subjected to hierarchy within feminism as well as lesbianism. Secondly, we
see that if well known reformists were not male, they were heterosexual, the epitome being Betty
Friedan. This was the reason for the more specific goal of the two groups: battling hierarchy in

How Did Isolationist Sentiment Influence US Foreign Policy...
As the United States went through two World Wars between 1914 and 1941, isolationist sentiment
had a large influence on US foreign policy. There were many causes for such isolationist beliefs as
the era included many significant changes. The main change that Americans experienced during
this time period was the immense difference in the decades, with a roaring economy in the 1920s
following the first World War and a Great Depression in the 1930s which would end with the start
of the second World War. With such large changes occurring within the lives of Americans during
this entire period of time, isolationist sentiment rose. As such beliefs became widespread, US
foreign policy became influenced by such isolationism. Isolationism meant that... Show more

With such events occurring quickly in such a small time period, the second World War came as a
massive shock. Yet again, Americans called for isolationism and neutrality as they believed
America should focus on ending the Great Depression, not worrying about and dealing with the
international issues of other nations and peoples. By analyzing Document 5, it is clear that many
Americans still believe in isolationism during the Great Depression. Bennett Champ Clark states in
his Defense of the First Neutrality Act that the desire to keep the United States from becoming
involved in any war between foreign nations seems practically unanimous among the rank and
file of American citizens. Americans influenced the US foreign policy yet again as the First
Neutrality Act was passed in 1935. By analyzing Document 6, it is clear that President Franklin
D. Roosevelt and the choices he made were still influenced by isolationist sentiment as he states
in his Quarantine Speech that it is my determination to adopt every practicable measure to avoid
involvement in war. However, it is clear in President Roosevelt s speech that he knew that
entering the war was inevitable as he states that the peace of the world and the welfare and
security of every nation, including our own is today being threatened by that very thing (war).
Although the United States tried its best to not enter the second World War for many years, it
could not avoided by the end of 1941. On December 7, 1941, Pearl Harbor was bombed by the
Japanese. The federal government s response to this attack can be analyzed in Document 7,
President Roosevelt s Pearl Harbor Address to the Congress of the United States. In response to
the attack, Roosevelt calls for Congress to declare . . . a state of war has existed between the

The Tang Dynasty was the most successful Chinese dynasty because of its incredible
government, enjoyable daily life, and amazing inventions and accomplishments. The Tang
Dynasty was the most successful dynasty because it had amazing emperors and government.
The dynasty started in 618 CE The second emperor, Taizong, reformed the military and
expanded the empire to stretch over Tibet, Eastern Turkey, and Inner Mongolia. He used forced
labor and taxes less, and allowed people to practice many different religions such as Christianity
and Buddhism. However, towards his decline, he became power hungry and ignored his duties.
Taizong then ordered many extravagant things to be built, such as a palace that took two million
days to be built, which he took down because the climate around it was too hot and the palace was
too grand. When he finally passed on, he gave the duty of being the emperor to his ninth son,
Gaozong. Gaozong then became the third emperor of the dynasty. Gaozong soon married Lady
Wang. He soon saw Wu Zetianin a temple and made her his concubine. Wu Zetian then rose to
power after allegedly murdering her daughter and accusing Lady Wang of doing so, which
caused Gaozong to divorce her. Even now, nobody truly knows who killed her daughter. Then,
she connected Lady Xiao, who was Gaozong s former first concubine, to the crime and got her
exiled, which was how Wu rose to power as empress. Later in 660 CE, she unofficially became

Research Paper On Chaos Theory
In 1961, computers were still infancy, and the race to the moon had just begun. Edward Lorenz one
of the first proponents of chaos theory developed a weather prediction model and found out that the
smallest changes at the one millionth of the decimal point can make his predictions useless, he
called this result as butterfly effect. The butterfly effect is a theoretical example of chaos theory.
The main premise of latter is that small changes in initial condition results in vast differences in
final outcome. The term butterfly effect is a metaphorical example of a hurricane being influenced
by flapping of the wings of a distant butterfly several years earlier by creating tiny changes in the
atmosphere. This could accelerate or even prevent the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He predicted that the movement of the simplified solar system consisting of The sun , The moon
and The earth is governed by the Newtonian laws of motion. He found out that even this simple
system behaves in an unpredictable manner and hence the three body problem is unsolvable. For
understanding this solar system and other complex systems such as earth s weather system we
would have to go in a different direction. That new direction is a new brand of science called THE
CHAOS THEORY.
1.2) What is Chaos Theory
Chaos theory is the field of study that studies about the behavior of the dynamical systems which
are highly sensitive to initial conditions. This theory proposes that even small changes in initial
conditions (such as rounding off of errors in numerical computation) results in vast differences in
final outcomes for such systems. It is valid for deterministic systems also. Deterministic systems are
those systems whose future behavior is fully determined by their initial conditions, no random
elements are involved. This feature is known as deterministic chaos, or simply

Essay on the Symbolism of the Menagerie in The Glass...
The Symbolism of the Menagerie in The Glass Menagerie
Tennessee Williams play, The Glass Menagerie, describes three separate characters, their dreams,
and the harsh realities they face in a modern world. The Glass Menagerie exposes the lost dreams
of a southern family and their desperate struggle to escape reality. Williams use of symbolsadds
depth to the play. The glass menagerie itself is a symbol Williams uses to represent the broken
lives of Amanda, Laura and Tom Wingfieldand their inability to live in the present.
The glass menagerie symbolizes Amanda Wingfield s overwhelming need to cling to her past and
her fulfilled fear of being alone. Amanda resents the poverty stricken neighborhood in which she
lives so ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tom ends the argument by calling Amanda an ugly babbling old witch (Williams 1875), and
struggles to put his coat on, intent on leaving. When he cannot put the coat on properly, he
becomes frustrated with his clumsiness and flings it across the room, breaking some of the
glass collection. Laura cries out as if wounded (Williams 1875). This shows how fragile Laura
really is and how she reacts when even the small balance of her apartment is shifted. The most
prominent use of this symbol comes at the crisis of the story, when Jim is left alone with Laura.
The conversation turns to Laura s glass collection, when she remarks glass is something you
have to take good care of. (Williams 1900), again showing her fragility. More parallels are drawn
between Laura and the glass collection with the introduction of the unicorn. Jim says, Poor little
fellow, he must feel sort of lonesome (Williams 1902) to which Laura replies, He stays on a shelf
with some horses that don t have horns and all of them seem to get along nicely together
(Williams 1902). The unicorn becomes a symbol for Laura because just like the unicorn she is
different. When Jim and Laura dance, and Jim accidentally knocks the unicorn off the table and its
horn is broken off, it loses its uniqueness. Similarly, when Jim kisses Laura and then shatters her
hopes by telling

My Camping Trip
Every year my aunt plans a camping trip for everybody so we can get together and have fun and
so that the cousins can be with each other. Family comes from New Jersey, California, and
sometimes Virginia to go camping with us; we want as much family to be with us on these trips
as possible. In 2007, I was the youngest cousin out of the 10 that went camping with us, and to
be honest it sucked because I would mostly be left out of adventures the big kids would do. My
older cousins were between the ages of 15 17 and then there was middle ages that were 10 12
and me being 7 years old. My cousins decided to go down to the river, I really wanted to go, but
they said no, because something can happen. they always said that it made me mad. My older
cousins would give my parents the look of like say something so she doesn t come with us. My
mom told me that she needed my help with cooking a reason so I wouldn t go. I told my mom I
didn t want to help. She told me to go in the tent and color. I went to the tent and as I was going
to go in the tent I saw my bike. Thought to myself that I can ride my bike and catch up with my
cousins. In my head, I thought nothing bad can happen, nor I would get in trouble with going with
my cousins without telling my parents. I got on my bike and started following them. My cousins
didn t know I was following them because I was keeping my distance from them and being quite.
Before they went down to the river, they were going to go to the bathroom

Inflammatory Bowel Disease Analysis
Abstract
Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) are group of disorders that cause chronic inflammation in the
intestinal mucosa and transmural. IBD is divided into two main categories Crohn s disease (CD)
and ulcerative colitis (UC). While there is no known cure for IBD, current therapies can only reduce
the inflammation that triggers the signs and symptoms and induce long term remission. Therefore,
better treatment modalities for the complex IBD are still evolving. The increased understanding of
the underlying immunopathology has helped identify new targeted treatment options using stem
cells that are capable of modulating the immune system. Haematopoietic stem cells (HSC) and
mesenchymal stromal cells (MSC) are the most evaluated stem cell treatment ... Show more content

Examples Of Moral Dilemmas
2. What are values and norms and what is a moral dilemma?
To answer this question I will divide the question in three parts.
Starting with what values are. Values are an absolut or relative and ethic value of a person. Values
can be defined as a wide preference for specific actions.
The assumption of those can be a basic form for ethic handling.
A Valuesystem is a set of consistense values and measures. A principale value is a fundamental on
which values and measures of integrity are based.
Some values are physiologically determined and used usually for avoiding fysical pain or for
looking for fun. Other values are subjective, they are different for every individu or for different
religions. These values are more based on religion and their beliefs. Different values are ethical
/moral vales, ideological values, social values and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then the last part of this question, moral dilemmas. But what is a Moral dilemma?. A Moral
Dilemma is that two well known cases conflict with eachother. In each case you have moral
reasons to do each of the two actions, but it is not possible to do both. This is what you call moral
dilemmas.
What is really a common factor for moral dilemmas is, is that it is kind of required to do both
actions, in this situation you can choose one of them but you can t do both, so you start feeling
that you failed, because both actions are important for you. No matter which one you will choose
you always have the feeling that you failed or did something wrong. So to recap this all a Moral
Dillema is a Dillema between two factors/choices that are both important to you and whatever you
choose you will always think you made the wrong choice.

Ecological Effects of Anti Communism Strategies by the...
During the early stages of the Cold War (1945 1954), the United States became so dedicated to
stopping the spread of communism that they completely ignored the potential ecological effects of
their strategic decisions, signifying a complete disconnect from contemplative ecology.
During this period under the Truman Administration, there was an overwhelming societal belief
that national security concerns trump environmental safety. As a matter of fact, there was zero
concern from the federal government towards environmental safety, as evidenced by the United
States Federal Government Spending for the Fiscal Year of 1950. Zero concern equalling zero
dollars being spent on pollution abatement , and most appalling protection of biodiversity ... Show

For the consequences of wiping out American cities with atomic weapons would result in the
simultaneous destruction of Soviet cities from an American counter attack. The ultimate result
would be mutually assured destruction on both sides. The ecological reprocussions from such a
scenario would be disasterous. Both the Americans and the Soviets had enough nuclear weapons to
not only wipe each other off the map, but also enduce a global nuclear winter which is when the
nuclear fallout is so thick it blocks out the sun, lowering the global climate, killing of plantlife,
animal life which depended on that plantlife, and ultimately causing a complete food chain
disruption. Hell on Earth as we know it.
Fortunately, worldwide nuclear winter was only a possibility, never a reality. But for some
people, the reprocussions of the use of nuclear weapons are very real. The United States tested 67
nuclear weapons in Bikini Atoll from 1946 1958. Bikini Atoll, which belonged to a conglomerate
of 23 islands the Marshall Islands was formerly inhabited by nearly 5000 bikinians before they
were voluntarily evacuated in order to begin nuclear testing. Many of the Bikinians resided on
nearby Rongelap atoll, until fallout from the Castle Bravo Hydrogen Bomb test in 1954 shrouded
the atoll in a cloud of radioactive fallout, forcing them to once again relocate to another island. The
US Government declared Bikini atoll habitable in 1970, and

Gloria Anzaldua And Dear White People
Struggles with Identity
Finding your identity can be hard for some people. Your identity obviously makes you who you
are. Gloria Anzaldua s To Live in the Borderlands (1987) and Justin Simien s Dear White People
(2014) had a couple things in common when related to identity. In the poem, she talks about
being between the borderlands and trying to find who you are based on where you are from and
where you are now. I see a similar concept of not being able to decide who you really are in several
characters in Dear White People. When I think of the struggles with identity in both the poem and
the movie, I think of the tug of war game. The reader, or character in the movie, is in the middle
and having both sides of who they are on each ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You are the battle ground where enemies are kin to each other and you are at home, a stranger is
where that situation really stands out. She is saying that she is the middle man of two different
sides. In this case, I see it being between her homeland and where she is now. When she writes
you are at home, a stranger meaning when she goes back to where she grew up, she is not the
same person she once was and her family and friends do not recognize her. If I picture this poem
as visual aspect, I see the reader in the middle and the hometown on one side and the current
residence on the other playing tug of war and the reader cannot decide who should win.
When I watch Dear White People I see the same features come through as with the overall aspect
of To Live in the Borderlands. Rather than one person with identity issues in the poem, in the
movie there are several people with this problem. The first person that really stands out to me
when I think identity conflictions is, Samantha White. We see her being strong and forceful for
the black community on Winchester campus and then see her sleeping with Gabe, a white man.
Right off the bat, we see some in between from choosing to be with a white man and sticking up
for the black community. It only gets more conflicting as the movie goes on. She is still back and
forth with the community and with Gabe. As the movie comes to an end, we find out that Sam has
a white father and she was never really

Cellulitis And Abscesses Essay
Cellulitis and Abscesses
Rationale
The patient is a 59 year old female presented with an abscess and cellulitis located above and
slightly to the left of her gluteal cleft. She reports pain at the site of the infection, swelling and
redness is also noted. The patient underwent an incision and drainage (I D) and was put on
Vancomycin to treat the infection. She has a history of HTN, CAD, and hyperlipidemia, however
no history of diabetes, cancer, or autoimmune disorders that are linked to increase the risk for
abscesses were reported. The fact that this is the first time in which she has had an abscess or
cellulitis leads me to believe the patient would highly benefit from being educated on these
overlapping skin infections.

Like with cellulitis, a penetrating injury to the skin can also cause an abscess, as can clogged oil
and sweat glands, infected hair follicles, and osteomyelitis (Misty, 2013). Although anyone can
get an abscess or cellulitis, many conditions are conditions are known increase the risk of
cellulitis and abscesses. Some common conditions know to increase this risk include, but are not
limited to, viral, fungal, or bacterial skin infections such as athletes foot, a history of dermatitis,
diabetes, eczema, obesity, smoking, edema, immunosuppression, and cancer (Raff Kroshinsky,
2016). In regards to the risk factors of cellulitis and abscess formation there are many health care
related activities that can be implemented to help prevent these infections from occurring. Eating
healthy is a good start, it can help an obese individual lose weight as well as control many
underlying disorders, such as diabetes, that may influence infections. Avoiding any scraps or cuts
on your skin, but cleaning them thoroughly when they do occur will help keep the bacteria that
causes infections out of the skin. Cleaning your skin regularly will also help to prevent pores,
glands or hair follicles from clogging. These methods alone do not guarantee the prevention of
abscesses or cellulitis, but taking care of

The Most Famous Guitar Players For Find Success At Fame
One of the more famous guitar players to find success at FAME was Duane Allman. In
September of 1968, Allman went to visit Hall, with the hopes of joining FAME as a studio
musician. Hall remembered that Allman was a huge fan of the things I was doing Jimmy
Hughes, Arthur Alexander, Clarence Carter, Joe Tex. He knew about all the records I was
cutting and was heavy into black music. However, at the time, Hall did not need another guitar
player. This did not scourge Allman and he stayed in the Shoals, waiting for his chance. When
Duane finally did get the chance to play for Rick Hall, he made a lasting first impression One day
we were doing a demo and he had his bottleneck, says Hall. To be honest with you, I hadn t saw

The day Johnson and the other section member informed Hall of their plans, Hall signed a
million dollar contract with Capitol Records to produce artists on FAME s record label. Hall
offered each of the section members a base salary of $10,000 a year to become FAME s
exclusive band, but they earned nearly double that figure the year before and could not justify
signing Hall s offer. Johnson remembers that Hall had been up all night, but I thought he
reacted good under the circumstances. He did tell us, I would do the same thing, but you ll
never make it. Hall immediately started looking for other local musicians and found Junior
Lowe on guitar, Jesse Boyce on bass, Freeman Brown on drums, and Clayton Ivey on keyboards.
They became known as the Fame Gang. Over the years Hall would bring new musicians into the
Fame Gang. Linda Hall states, There was always a different set of musicians trying to get started,
they weren t as good as the ones Rick used all the time, but he just called these guys in and
developed his new rhythm section. He had done this at least four or five times. A studio musician
has to be very motivated, creative type person. On April 12, 1969, Billboard announced the new
FAME and Capitol Records partnership. The article entitled Black Jobs, Culture Gain Capitol Boost

offered to weave him the most beautiful outfit that could only be seen by people who were
intelligent and fit for their positions. He then hired them, as anyone else would do, and paid her
and gave her beautiful cloth that was never used for intended purpose . My client was concerned
about where all the cloth was going. Lets remember one thing, one of my client s biggest reasons

In my opening statement I mentioned that I would call three witnesses to show the swindler s
guilt. Each witness explained this fact without a shadow of a doubt: 1) The emperor did not
have clothes on. So try to explain one thing, where were the clothes? They were most definitely
not on him and nobody saw him wearing his magnificent clothes. This Is why the swindler
deserves to be charged with fraud. They did not hold there end of the bargain. There is nothing
the defending side can say because he did not have clothes on. Yes the officials lied but truth be
told, wouldn t you? That is the only thing they can prove, which does not devalue the fact that
they committed a crime of fraud. To determine guilt in this case, the members of this jury only
have to ask themselves two questions: 1) Did my client pay for and provide materials for clothing
to be made and 2) Did the swindler produce the clothing. Not only did the swindler manipulate, lie,
and humiliate my client but I believe the swindler should be rightly and justly charged for the
crime of fraud against my client. I appreciate the time given, wisdom, and consideration of the facts
of every member of this jury. Thank

This request that the father makes shows the reader the first evidence of storytelling in this short
story. The narrator does not like the simple style of writing that he suggested because she thinks
that it takes all hope away. She also believes that Everyone, real or invented, deserves the open
destiny of life ( Paley 231). Even though the narrator does not like writing in that style, she still
agrees to do it to please her father. She starts to think of a way that she can start her story and a
plot that would follow it. Moments later, the narrator thinks of a story that has been happening for
a couple of years right across the street from her. This story includes a woman and her son, a drug
addict. In this story, she describes how the woman became a junkie in order to maintain a close
relationship with her son. The narrator ended the short story by saying that the son eventually gave
everything up and left the city making the mother feel hopeless and alone. This is not what her
father was expecting, he says You misunderstood me on purpose... You left everything out (Paley
233). The father then asks the narrator a bunch of questions in order to include more important

Why Tough Teachers Get Good Results Summary
The subject of the article, Why Tough Teachers Get Good Results by Joanne Lipman is that strict
teachers get good results, even if some may not agree with their ways of teaching. The author
states, Mr. K s methods aren t for everyone. But you can t argue with his results. And that s a
lesson we can all learn from. Joanne Lipman s point is that even though many people don t like
when a teacher is as strict as Mr. Kupchynsky, but like the article said you can not argue with his
results.

Purpose:
The purpose of the article Why Tough Teachers Get Good Results is that the younger generation
needs to learn how to be more confident and learn how to fix their mistakes when criticized.
Lipman states in the article, studies have shown, among other things, the benefits of moderate
childhood stress; how praise kills kids self esteem; and why grit is a better predictor of success
that SAT scores Lipman s point is that every student should learn to have grit and even if a teacher
is strict you should still be confident in yourself and your decisions.
Speaker
The speaker of the article is the author herself, Joanne Lipman, she is the former student of a tough
teacher. Lipman states, I had a teacher once who called his students idiots when they screwed up.

(Riordan 2007). Overcrowding in the state prison system is a continuing problem and is increasingly uncomfortable. Capacity levels have risen in both operating and capacity in both state and federal prison systems. This has caused local and state facilities to make inmates double up in prison cells. In other words, cells that would normally hold to inmates at a time are now holding more convicts. This causes even more tension and friction between inmates. Types of Institutions There are two types of institutions in the United States, that is private and government ran institutions. The privately ran institutions are paid for from the states government and commonly a lower cost to the state. The down side however, is that these facilities can choose who comes in as an inmate or employee. The state ran facilities are a little more expensive than privately run facilities. Security Levels Types of Criminals Identify the five state prison systems There are five state prison systems in which exist in today s penitentiary systems and they are maximum security prisons, close high security prisons, medium security prisons, and open security facilities. Investigating the Effect of Lipase Concentration on the Breakdown of Fat in Milk INTRODUCTION: Enzymes are proteins which can catalyse chemical reactions without changing themselves. The enzyme lipase breaks down the fat in dairy products such as full cream milk for people who are lactose intolerant. Lipase acts on its specific substrate, lipids produces fatty acids. If enzyme concentration increases, random collisions between the substrates and active sites of enzyme increase due to the increasing amount of active sites which allow more collisions to happen, so the rate of breakdown of lipids to simpler substances will increase. • 8. Ignorance, Ignorance And Ignorance According to Mark Lilla s Ignorance and Bliss , The source of the proverb Ignorance is Bliss is a poem by the 18th century English poet Thomas Gray, who wrote in passing: Where ignorance is bliss/ Tis folly to be wise (Lilla). At the time the proverb was referring to the Enlightenment and Christianity s glorification of blind faith, and its renunciation of both scientific reason and philosophical inquiry; however, today, it can be interpreted as whether or not man has the ability to maintain happinessin the midst of unhappiness. Is ignorancereally bliss? Can it serve as a way to avoid anxieties, or would repression of issues only lead to more dissatisfaction? Webster s dictionary defines ignorance as lack of knowledge, education, or awareness. However, it can also be seen as a refusal to acknowledge information. Bliss is defined as complete happiness. Does the idea of ignorance is bliss really hold true? Can happiness be a byproduct of a lack of knowledge and awareness, or the flat out refusal to acknowledge? The people of Omelas seemed to have achieved that. The townspeople of Omelas live in a prosperous Utopian town where everyone is happy, but in order to maintain their way of life a child must be subjected to inhuman treatment and suffering, They all know it is there, all the people of Omelas...[T]hey all understand that their happiness...depends wholly on this child s abominable misery (Le Guin). When the USS Maine sunk in Havana Harbor, the Hurst newspapers with no evidence, blamed the Spanish, so Americans believed that this was true and demanded to get back at Spain. • 11. Essay on Altruism Why do we show altruism? Social and evolutionary biologists, psychologists, economists and philosophers alike have made many attempts at providing an explanation for altruism. As a result, many opposing theories have developed over the years. In this essay, I will attempt to explain altruism as the presence of an altruistic gene which is selected for by natural selectionin terms of kin selection. I will explore evidence supporting this theory, as well as evidence pointing to psychological explanations such as reciprocal altruism, social norms and primitive sympathy. First, it is important to understand what altruism is. Altruism is any act carried out by an individual in order to benefit another individual. [1, 2] At first glance, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nevertheless, one recent study suggests that genetic differences between our ancestors could have resulted in lethal intergroup competition which disfavoured non altruists [6]. I will attempt to link this theory to what is known as kin selection. Kin selection explains altruism as an act increasing the probability of an individual s genes being transmitted to the next generation. [3] We share half of our genes our siblings and parents, and a quarter with cousins, nephews and nieces. [1, 2] Therefore, altruistic behaviour towards these individuals would result in our genes passing on due to their higher probability of survival. This is known as increasing one s inclusive fitness. [7] Since early human societies included members genetically related to one another, [6] kin selection between these individuals resulted in the societies growing in size. Thus, societies genetically predisposed in displaying co operative, altruistic behaviour towards each other (through acts such as group hunting, mutually defending each other, and sharing food) are more capable of surviving, resulting in the altruistic gene surviving.[1] This, I believe, is the predominant explanation for altruism in humans today. The act of altruism is a genetic inheritance evolving through the basic instinct of survival and continuity of species. Other theorists however, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This paper started with a quote which mainly emphasize on the power of imagination. The line which is quoted above, said by one of the early romantic poet, one who never went to university, never took opium, did not end up his life in a very tender age, never left England, did not went on any Grand tour in his life span, did not have any illicit or failed affairs or relationships, had no one who would call him father and unfortunately never got the fame during his own lifetime. He is the one, who shine out like a star whenever one talks about Mysticism and Imagination in English Literature, William Blake. What he says about Imagination is The Imagination is not a state: it is the human existence itself. (Damon, Samuel Foster. Ed. Eaves Morris. A Blake Dictionary: The Ideas and Symbol Of William Blake. UPNE, 1988.) After reading his thoughts about imagination and the power of imagination one could able to recognize that he believes in the imaginary world around him. He talks about angels and God like figures which could be seen by him only, which proves him as true mystic. After knowing the fact that he was a mystic, the next questions which struck the minds is what is Mysticism? What is so fascinating in mysticism which makes him a mystic? Here is the answer, according to the Oxford English Dictionary, Mysticism is a Belief that union with or absorption into the deity or the absolute, or the spiritual apprehension of knowledge inaccessible to the intellect, may be attained through contemplation and self surrender . It also comes with another definition which says, Vague or ill defined religious or spiritual belief, especially a belief in the occult . So, basically it is somehow related to the kind of religious beliefs a person have. Actually, Blake was a non conformist. • 19. Final Milestone Part 2 Final Milestone Part Two: Policy Research and More Sarah Harris Southern New Hampshire University Economic Theories and Principles Every healthcare organization in our country relies on financial and economic gains. In other words, without these two important factors, no healthcare facility would ever survive. For example, healthcare facilities rely on supplies, staff and the proper financial knowledge. In fact, the price and amount of healthcare supplies are rising, which in turn can increase the cost of healthcare (Kabene et al.). Therefore, in non profits like Yale New Haven Hospital, it is important to have an adequate balance of supplies in order to allow the healthcare providers to practice efficiently. For instance, there needs to be enough supplies in order for the doctors to keep up with the high demand of incoming patients. When there is a rise in the demand of healthcare supplies such as shots, medication, vaccines etc., the more the market will produce, allowing more money to be made. The healthcare markets will be producing financial gains and so will the hospitals that are distributing these goods, which causes supply and demand to be at an all time high. Either way, without the availability of healthcare staff and supplies, the financial well being of any hospital would be non existent and so would the healthcare market and that is why there is a strong relationship between the two. • 20. Economic Collapse Of Rome In The Fourth Century The Dependent Dominoes Did you know that economic collapses of countries have been dated back all the way to the fourth century? For example, the economic collapse of Rome in the fourth century. The problem that Rome suffered from with was an issue with their currency, gold coins, which contained more gold than was labeled. This caused rapid inflation because the citizens melted the coins to make a profit by selling the raw gold at a higher price. Another example is the economic downfall of the Spanish empire in the second half of the sixteenth century. Spain was rich off the gold of the newly found Americas, but started increasing mining to irrational levels which decreased the value of money and caused hyper inflation which lead to their... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An irrational phenomena in a financial contagion is built when co movement occurs from the behaviors of investors that influence financial globalization which can be risk aversion, lack of confidence, and financial fears. A financial crisis that lasts two or more quarters is called a recession, while a longer or more severe recession is called a depression. One of the biggest impacts of a financial crisis are aimed at banks. During a financial crisis, people withdraw their money from banks due to their fear that the banks will lose their money. This is bad news for the banks for the obvious reason that they are losing money. If all goes bad and the banks use up all of their reserve money, they would have no choice but to liquidate their assets and file for loans once too many people start withdrawing, in order to pay back the people s money. If a bank fails to return people s money, they are forced to shut down. Now you may wonder why people are so scared of losing their money in a bank during an economical downfall. It is because the rest of the people who kept their money in the bank when it shut down only receive back up to 250,000 dollars if the bank is FDIC secured, which most banks are. Thus, if you have 900,000 dollars in your savings account and your bank shuts down, you will receive less than a third of your money. A financial crisis also leads the decline of ... • 22. Sonnet 146 Sonnet 146 is well known for its deeply intriguing religious aspect, as it is one of Shakespeare s religious sonnets and almost the only religious one. It is religious as its tone mentions its concern with heaven, asceticism and also the progress of the soul all through out the sonnet. The idea that the poet was trying to convey to his audience is that the body exists at the expense of the soul, so that adorning or worrying about its beauty can only be accomplished at the souls expense. The poem is an internal monologue, which makes it first person point of view. This helps the audience understand that he is talking to himself and whom he is talking about. This sonnetcan also be referred to as mediation between the soul and the body... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The words poor and sinful are both negative. We can understand through this negative tone that the poet or the earth in this sonnet is a bad place and we then link sinful to ungodliness, which is what the whole poem is about. Another example of metaphor used in this poem is found in the second quatrain; fading mansion which is used the represent our body. This metaphor explains that our souls are slowly dying and becoming very dull and fading as we do not live our lives like we are suppose to, according to the poet. In line 13 so shalt thou feed on death , gives us the audience a thought that we must constantly be thinking about death and also as a part of human nature we ponder about life. In other words, for this metaphor, we as humans feed on death, which in turns feeds on us. Why so large a cost, having so short a lease this lease refers to life, which is short as we as humans are not immortal. This metaphor asks why we as humans put so much effort into life when death comes so quickly. Closing couplet: The metaphor from the 3rd quatrain is continued and expanded in the closing couplet. It finishes from the 1st quatrain of the starving person within the mansion and then turns into irony of the idea that death feeds on humans. And in the last lines, death and dying are words used as imagery to describe and give us the final image of eternal life. Shakespeare, with the use of vivid imagery, ... Theme Of The Lamb To The Slaughter By Roald Dahl Roald Dahl has successfully presented creepy moments and ideas in his writing by the very uncommon, but realistic scenarios the characters are put in, word choice, and character development. The author gives very little background information at the beginning of the story causing the reader to be surprised with how the characters develop throughout the story. One way the author has presented scary ideas was by putting the characters in scenarios that are possible to happen to anyone, yet they are very unlikely. Comparatively, the author presents menacing and fearsome ideas by character development. In The Landlady, the woman presents herself and a very pleasurable, harmless soul. The text says, ..she gave him a warm welcoming smile. Toward the end, she keeps that eerie smile, but she starts to give hints letting him know that she s going to kill him. Throughout the story she mentions Mr Mulholland and Mr Perkins staying in her bed and breakfast. In Lamb to the Slaughter, the main character is six months pregnant and married. When the police come to search for evidence, they eat it. The police were unforeseeable, assuming the lady who offered them to stay for dinner, wouldn t be a suspect of killing the man who is pregnant with her child. Asia Pacific Halal Services New Zealand agrees that stunning of animals is permissible as long as the heart is not stopped. The meat inspector stamps all carcasses once they meet the halal requirements, regardless whether for export or for the domestic market. Currently, there are no regulations for labeling halal meat for the New Zealand domestic market. The lack of halal labeling contributes to a perceived erosion of religious freedom. Halal is an important issue for Muslims as they are forbidden to eat non halal or haram, meaning not permissible, food. The Quran has several verses relating to halal but the most relevant one is: So eat of that [meat] upon which the name of Allah has been mentioned, if you are believers in His verses. And do not eat of that upon which the name of Allah has not been mentioned, for indeed, it is grave disobedience. (Ali, Y English Quran 6:118, 121). There were many causes for such isolationist beliefs as the era included many significant changes. The main change that Americans experienced during this time period was the immense difference in the decades, with a roaring economy in the 1920s following the first World War and a Great Depression in the 1930s which would end with the start of the second World War. Yet again, Americans called for isolationism and neutrality as they believed America should focus on ending the Great Depression, not worrying about and dealing with the international issues of other nations and peoples. By analyzing Document 5, it is clear that many Americans still believe in isolationism during the Great Depression. Bennett Champ Clark states in his Defense of the First Neutrality Act that the desire to keep the United States from becoming involved in any war between foreign nations seems practically unanimous among the rank and file of American citizens. Americans influenced the US foreign policy yet again as the First Neutrality Act was passed in 1935. By analyzing Document 6, it is clear that President Franklin D. Roosevelt and the choices he made were still influenced by isolationist sentiment as he states in his Quarantine Speech that it is my determination to adopt every practicable measure to avoid involvement in war. Edward Lorenz one of the first proponents of chaos theory developed a weather prediction model and found out that the smallest changes at the one millionth of the decimal point can make his predictions useless, he called this result as butterfly effect. The butterfly effect is a theoretical example of chaos theory. The main premise of latter is that small changes in initial condition results in vast differences in final outcome. That new direction is a new brand of science called THE CHAOS THEORY. 1.2) What is Chaos Theory Chaos theory is the field of study that studies about the behavior of the dynamical systems which are highly sensitive to initial conditions. This theory proposes that even small changes in initial conditions (such as rounding off of errors in numerical computation) results in vast differences in final outcomes for such systems. It is valid for deterministic systems also. Deterministic systems are those systems whose future behavior is fully determined by their initial conditions, no random elements are involved. • 43. Essay on the Symbolism of the Menagerie in The Glass... The Symbolism of the Menagerie in The Glass Menagerie Tennessee Williams play, The Glass Menagerie, describes three separate characters, their dreams, and the harsh realities they face in a modern world. The Glass Menagerie exposes the lost dreams of a southern family and their desperate struggle to escape reality. Williams use of symbolsadds depth to the play. The glass menagerie itself is a symbol Williams uses to represent the broken lives of Amanda, Laura and Tom Wingfieldand their inability to live in the present. The glass menagerie symbolizes Amanda Wingfield s overwhelming need to cling to her past and her fulfilled fear of being alone. Amanda resents the poverty stricken neighborhood in which she lives so ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Tom ends the argument by calling Amanda an ugly babbling old witch (Williams 1875), and struggles to put his coat on, intent on leaving. When he cannot put the coat on properly, he becomes frustrated with his clumsiness and flings it across the room, breaking some of the glass collection. Laura cries out as if wounded (Williams 1875). This shows how fragile Laura really is and how she reacts when even the small balance of her apartment is shifted. The most prominent use of this symbol comes at the crisis of the story, when Jim is left alone with Laura. The conversation turns to Laura s glass collection, when she remarks glass is something you have to take good care of. (Williams 1900), again showing her fragility. More parallels are drawn between Laura and the glass collection with the introduction of the unicorn. Jim says, Poor little fellow, he must feel sort of lonesome (Williams 1902) to which Laura replies, He stays on a shelf with some horses that don t have horns and all of them seem to get along nicely together (Williams 1902). The unicorn becomes a symbol for Laura because just like the unicorn she is different. When Jim and Laura dance, and Jim accidentally knocks the unicorn off the table and its horn is broken off, it loses its uniqueness. Values are an absolut or relative and ethic value of a person. Values can be defined as a wide preference for specific actions. The assumption of those can be a basic form for ethic handling. A Valuesystem is a set of consistense values and measures. A principale value is a fundamental on which values and measures of integrity are based. Some values are physiologically determined and used usually for avoiding fysical pain or for looking for fun. But what is a Moral dilemma?. A Moral Dilemma is that two well known cases conflict with eachother. In each case you have moral reasons to do each of the two actions, but it is not possible to do both. This is what you call moral dilemmas. What is really a common factor for moral dilemmas is, is that it is kind of required to do both actions, in this situation you can choose one of them but you can t do both, so you start feeling that you failed, because both actions are important for you. No matter which one you will choose you always have the feeling that you failed or did something wrong. So to recap this all a Moral Dillema is a Dillema between two factors/choices that are both important to you and whatever you choose you will always think you made the wrong choice. 3.What Values and Norms does the chosen organisation ... In the poem, she talks about being between the borderlands and trying to find who you are based on where you are from and where you are now. I see a similar concept of not being able to decide who you really are in several characters in Dear White People.
