with subsequent low availability of food and poor economy due to low sales of such
plant s products. Since the relative growth rate measures the efficiency of seedling
(Brand, 1991), the reduction in the relative growth rate of Zea mays reported in this
study imply that kerosene oil reduces the efficiency of the plant.
This study also shows that Zea mays did better in the polluted soil left for six months
than in the polluted soil left for three months and than the soil polluted and
immediately planted on. This confirms that with time, natural biodegradation occur
and the kerosene polluted environment has ability to purify itself, if and only if the
source of pollutant is not intermittent.

adventure. The third book of the John Lock series, the story is written in the third

around Europe. One of John s friend, who also works on the cruise ship, asks him

However, in the not so distant past, discrimination was very prominent in American
society. For example, Stephen Crane s widely read short story, The Blue Hotel ,
exhibits many situations where discriminationdrives the plot forward.
Within the first few paragraphs of The Blue Hotel, the reader is promptly introduced
to a situation in which discrimination occurs, due to the description of the Palace
Hotel. The author, Stephen Crane, describes the color scheme of the hotel, which
points out how different the hotel is to the rest of the town, and proceeds to write
that The Palace Hotel, then, looked always loud and screaming in a way that made
the bright winter scenes of Nebraska seem only a dull gray. (Crane, 26) Stephen s
use of adjectives and style causes the Palace Hotel to seem foreign and almost as if
the establishment doesn t belong in the setting. The author then emphasizes this point
by saying that It was believed that no traveler could pass the Palace Hotel without

main cultural differences are their clothing, beliefs, and foods. Common clothing
that Jewish men wear is the Kippah and Tallit. The Kippah is a skullcap, also

be worn under a street hat. The Tallit is a large rectangular fabric made of wool,

The three Punic Wars between Rome and Carthage went on for over a century. The
wars started in 264 B.C. and ended with the Romans destroying Carthage in 146 B.C.
The conflict between the countries came from the clash of economic interests. The
wars were the first big wars of Roman expansion outside Italy. Carthage had a big
empire along the coast of North America, southern Spain, and a few parts of Sicily.

experiment. It was here when he meets Karl August Hanke who was also a former
student of Basel School of Design. His work possessed an impulsiveness and careful
