Theme Of The Blind Man
The theme is the man finding his inner self through the blind man. For example; the blind man
and the Narrator were going to draw a Cathedral together, and the blind man asks the man to close
his eyes, and then the blind man put his hand on top of his hand and began to draw. It was not like
nothing else in his life and he enjoyed the experience and that he could relate to the blindman
(Craver, 1981, p. 32) The plot begins when a blind man comes to visit his wife they had not seen
each other in a very long time. His wife used to work for the blind man, reading stuff and case
reports to him and organizing his little office in a county social service department. They kept in
touch by mailing each other tapes, they became good... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example; And having a blind man coming over to sleep in his house the narrator wasn t not
happy. He was sarcastic by asking his wife, Maybe I can take him bowling, she didn t appreciate
his comment. (Craver, 1981, p. 32). His wife was perturbed with her husband. My wife began to
tell me the story in how the blind man and his wife called Beulah, met after my wife stop
working for the blind man. Beulah wanted a small wedding, it was just the two of them and the
minister. But Beulah had cancer and her health had decline and she died in Seattle, the blind
man sat and held on to her hand. The blind man and his wife were inseparable, they lived and
worked together for eight years. The Narrator thought about Robert not knowing what his wife
looked like. The narrator felt sorry for the blind man for a bit, and found himself thinking what a
pitiful life for this woman. For example; the wife would never know how she looked through her
love one s eyes, and never receive a compliment form her husband, and never read the expressions
on her face (Craver, 198 p.32).
The setting takes place in 1981 in New York, a two story house where this took place. The house
had a porch as they walked into the house where the living room was, narrator wife was guiding
him by the arm. The wife sat the blind man on the sofa, that narrator bought two weeks ago and

The Effects Of Smoking On The United States
Smoking is established as a recognized cause of cancer, lung disease, coronary heart disease, and
stroke(US Public Health Service,1964,Doll R 1976,1994, US Department of Health and Human
Services,1989).it is considered to be the single most important avoidable cause of premature
morbidity and mortality in the world. WHO has estimated that there are about 1100 million
smokers worldwide; this represents about one third of the global population aged over 15 years
(WHO,1997). About 73% of these smokers (700 million males, 100 million females) are in
developing countries; in industrialized countries there are 200 million male smokers and 100
million female smokers. In the over 15 year old population of developing countries, it is
estimated that about 48% of males and 7% of females are smokers. The corresponding figures for
industrialized countries are 42% for males and 24% for females (WHO,1997).
Logistic Regression Model: The logistic regression models has wide ranging applications from
determining the population growth and its determinants to applications for predicting and
analyzing qualitative data and in epidemiological studies. Logistic regression model postulates
relationship between the log odds of a disease and the risk factors. A regression predicts the
probability that an observation falls into one of two categories of a dichotomous dependent variable
based on one or more independent variables that can be either continuous or categorical.

Transit Oriented Development ( Tod ) Essay
Introduction
Transit Oriented Development (TOD) began as a counter movement to urban sprawl and it s
economic, social, and environmental impacts by moving more towards the garden city movement
of the 19th century be designating areas for specific land use, while also, employing the design of
multiuse buildings. By looking at the greater Phoenix Metropolitan Area there is a need to
accommodate for future cities by employing community and regional design concepts.
Content
The future of living is cities. Somehow the ancients understood it, but Americans in the 1950s
decided cities were a thing of the past. The movement from the city to the suburb has been one of
the single most expensive cultural migrations in world history. There is much more than the
initial cost of a house with a yard. There are the environmental costs that accumulate from the
destruction of wildlife from both, building materials and the clearing of area for the physical
house. This initial cost also does not account for the supermarkets, and roads needed to sustain
life in these suburban areas separated into pods. What about the costs of a car needed for
transportation in these metropolises, and all their external costs as well? Those are not accounted
for either, but suburban living was the American Dream for nearly half a century. However, as the
American Dream, and family models, change there is an evident need for living conditions to
change as well. There is not a singular way to design a city, but

Export And Demand Of Goods From Other Countries
For years upon years, countries have been requesting for other countries for supplies that they do
not have for themselves. The countries would demand for that item and in return the other country
would supply it for them. They would trade products in and out of their countries due to a term
known as supply and demand. The goods and services that a country supplies and demands depends
on the country and what they have. Since not every country has the same needs or has the same
resources, there is a trade between countries at times. Comparing the countries and their supply and
demands of imports and exports, the top countries for each have their reasons to why they re at the
top, whether it be because they have less government restrictions... Show more content on

Some countries might supply, the amount of goods that a market can produce, and demand, the
amount of goods the consumers are willing to buy, more than others, but they are still supplying
and demanding something out of someone else. The country could demand something from its
own citizens and the citizens would supply it, but it could be applied to an even bigger
audience. A country could demand something from another country and in result, the other
country would supply the demand to either keep its friendship with the other country, or to keep
its reliance for when something is needed. Or the countries could do a simple trade of supplies
they have that the countries demand. In result to supply and demand between countries, it
creates utility, total satisfaction received from consuming a goods or service. Demand shows
how much of a product a consumer is willing and able to consume, based on the price at a certain
time period. The law of demand is, when prices are to fall, the quantity of the product that
consumers want begins to rise. In simpler forms, when the price to an item drops, consumers are
willing to buy more because they are cheaper and more affordable, more people are willing and
able to buy the item. If it was to be the opposite, where the price was to increase, the demand for
the product would decrease due to the price being more expensive. When prices are decreased, the
quantity is increased, which gives the law of demand an inverse

Curiosity In Fitcher s Bird
In Fitcher s Bird, Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm emphasize that curiosity [gives] no rest as the women
could not contain their suspicions of what was behind the door of the locked room (Bird 1). The
Grimm brothers provide the reader with a life lesson focusing on how innocence and curiosity can
ultimately lead to your downfall, but with the help of family, you can learn to overcome those
obstacles and prevent those situations from happening again. Although all three sisters gave into
their temptation of curiosity, each individual sister learned that curiosity [kills] the cat and that
people will take advantage of your innocence.
The women s coming of age story exposes how naГЇve they are within the real world. As a result,
the sorcerer uses emotional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The third sister is the key to the other sisters coming of age process because although they
learned their lesson, the third sister is the one that put their body parts together and got them
back home safely. For example, the Grimm brothers describe the third sister as clever and shy to
separate her from her sisters and their curiosity that got the better of themselves (Bird 2). By
possessing these characteristics, the third sister was able to still see what was behind the locked
door, yet be clever enough to get away with it by carefully [setting] the egg aside , so the egg
would not be stained with the blood of the previous victims (Bird 2). Also, once the third sister
passes the test of not opening the locked room, the sorcerer then made her his wife. Therefore,
the third sister takes over the position of power by making the sorcerer secretly carry his sister s
body parts in a basket back to her home. Because the third sister had the position of power, she
used her sly characteristic as a tool to invite the sorcerer and his gang for a wedding feast that was
actually a lure into a trap to set the house on fire in order to prevent the three sister s situation to

Horror Narrative Essay
The horror genre has many lessons to teach us as an audience although being the genre most
connected with that of ridiculousness. It is regularly associated with the reaction it seeks from its
audience; both emotional and physical. In cinema success is measured by terrifying chills, bloody
deaths and the volume of the audiences scream. The appeal of horror narrative in literature, film
and theatre lies in the pleasures it associates with fear, suspense and terror; no matter what it is
trying to convey to the audience. Even when writers layer the genre with academic thoughts on
psychology, theology and the world in which we live in, horror remains the primary outlet to
examine the notions of dread, uncertainly, mysterious and the abject.... Show more content on

Films such as Carrie (DePalma 1976), Misery (Reiner 1990), Evil Dead (Raimi 1981), The Exorcist
(Friedkin 1973), The Birds (Hitchcock 1963) have all been made into stage productions; treading
the boards as a Broadway Musical or as serious drama. These adaptations have gained cult
followings and mixed reviews.
In 2014 the London theatre scene will be dominated by horror on stage. Productions of Fatal
Attraction (Dearden 2014), American Psycho (Aguirre Sacasa 2013), Let the Right One In
(Thorne 2013), Woman in Black (Mallatratt 1987) and Ghost stories (Dyson Nyman 2012) will
lead the early part of the season. The power of stage horror doesn t just match that of horror
cinema, it can actually outdo it as it can carry a blow that is extremely intensified because it is
live. The question for the stage though is how do we adapt iconic horror from screen to stage
without the magic of high expensive technical effects?
Horror on stage could be said to date back to the Ancient Greeks and their tales of incest, murder
and revenge, only using the role of the messenger as narrator to the horrors that happened off stage.
In modern times, however, we only need to look to Paris and the Théâtre du Grand Guignol,
which presented explicit revenge tales from the late 1800s to the mid 1900s. The plays placed

In general, the vertical resolution it is better to use wooden bars. The higher reflection
coefficient of the metallic bars makes the tail of the reflected pulse in the first bar strong
enough to blur the second one when the two bars are close to each other. This effect is noticeable
in the results obtained with the 500 MHz. The horizontal resolution worsens as the reflectors are
separated from the frequency because the footprint gets larger. The simulation and experimental

Nuclear Energy In Australia Essay
Introduction
Recently, there has been debates on whether or not Australia should result to nuclear energy for
some of its energy source. The main issue is to do with the risk when nuclear energy is used. The
chance of a nuclear disaster in a nuclear power plant is actually incredibly small, however, if the
risk does occur, the consequence is devastating. (Gary Was, 2015). Australia also currently has no
nuclear power generators, which is a surprise since it owns about 31% of the world s uranium
resources. (Wikipedia, Last Modified 16 July 2015). Back in February 8th this year, Premier Jay
Weatherill, said that there would be a, mature and robust conversation about South Australia s
future participation in a nuclear fuel cycle, including the prospects for setting up nuclear power
stations, uranium enrichment plants and a nuclear waste dump in the state. (George Lekakis, 2015).
How it works

which produce the electricity. This works much like a fossil fuel way of ... Show more content on

Solitary Confinement Essay
In the United States the penal system is developed under two separate systems. One is the Auburn
system and the second is the Pennsylvania system. The current system in the United States for
solitary confinement was taken from the Pennsylvania model which was built for isolation and
seclusion solitary confinement was used as an alternative form of punishment but at the time it was
meant to provide a prisoner with solitude to reflect on his misdeeds It was used to help the prisoner
repent, and restore his relationship with God.
Solitary Confinement Cases
In 1890, Supreme Court Justice Samuel Miller condemned the practice: A considerable number of
the prisoners fell, after even a short confinement, into a semi fatuous condition, from which it was
next to impossible to arouse them, and others became violently insane; others still, committed
suicide; while those who stood the ordeal better were not generally reformed, and in most cases
did not recover sufficient mental activity to be of any subsequent service to the community. In re
Medley, 134 U.S. 160, 168 (1890)
Another case was in 1995, Judge Thelton Henderson wrote that solitary confinement may well
hover on the edge of what is humanly tolerable, and that for those who have been diagnosed
mentally ill, placing them in solitary confinement is the mental equivalent of putting an asthmatic
in a place with little air. Madrid v. Gomez, 889 F. Supp. 1146, 1265 (N.D. Cal.

Pakist A Social And Political Tool
The answer is, it depends.
It depends on when you run into the average Pakistani male. Pakistan is I don t care Islamic when
he is drooling over Katrina Kaif s assets at the movies. Conversely, Pakistan is full on Islamic when
the same gent is at Friday prayers, nodding solemnly in agreement with the imam spewing religious
hate speech.
This brings me to the reason for my rant: Pakistan s newfound liberal conscience. Steered by the
many brave columnists of the English language dailies, theirs is a revolution bent on destroying
Pakistan s Islamist status quo. Since I am a card carrying coward, I will stick to mundane facts.
Women get treated as inferiors in Pakistan, blame Islam. The economy has gone down the gutter,
blame Islam. The politicians are all crooked and in bed with the Taliban, it must have something to
do with the long dead Gen.Zia ul Haq! It completely eludes these braves that religion has been a
social and political tool for rich humans to manipulate poor humans since time immemorial. The
wider the class divide in any society, the better this tool works.
Somehow, these writers also believe that underneath the Islamic straightjacket is a Pakistani soul
made of pure white light. Stupidity, hence, is not innate, but remote controlled from Riyadh. This
is a dangerous narrative because it dumps all of society s failings onto an invisible bogey instead
of individuals owning up to their actions.
Still, how do you measure the Islamic quotient in Pakistan?

The elegant Viola
For this instrument report I will be expanding on my favorite instrument, which is the viola. I
decided to pick this particular instrument because I truly enjoy the harmonic, lively and mysterious
melodies it produces when it is being played. Additionally, when the viola is played along with
other instruments its musical ranges complements the songs because it can alter between Soprano
and Bass. Even though it usually does not have solo music composed for it the viola is a string
instrument that with its elegant harmony can powerfully bring a deep and rhythmic tone to an
orchestra performance. Another reason I chose the viola was because I briefly played it in middle

Newsworthiness And White-Collar Crime
Newsworthiness and its effect on white collar crime depiction
The underrepresentation of white collar crime in the news media is caused by lack of
newsworthiness elements required by journalists to sell their stories. In 1977, Chibnall study of
newsworthiness has highlighted the eight professional codes that govern the construction of news
stories, these include of immediacy, dramatisation, personalisation, simplification, titillation,
conventionalism, structured access and novelty (Chibnall 1977, 23; Kidd Hewitt 1995,15). A
challenge in the representation of white collar crime is the newsworthy element of dramatisation.
For instance, the news media s inability to properly create folk devils representation of white collar
criminals is due ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, it has been argued that news media is primarily concerned with reporting on white
collar individuals or corporate defendants that readers or viewers will have heard of, such as
celebrities or notable individuals in society (Jewkes 2004, 49; Levi 2006, 1044; Levi 2009, 60).
This concern leads to the focus of agency in the portrayal of white collar crime, rather than the
depiction of the structural embeddedness of crime within the organisation culture. Moreover, past
study has shown that majority of white collar crime portrayal in the news media has focused on
crimes of individuals and their punishment, in order to minimise the negative publicity of
corporations (Benediktsson 2010, 2202 2203). The news coverage of white collar crime has been
selective (Stephenson Burton 1995, 137), as seen in the higher coverage of white collar crime
stories involving well known individuals. Therefore, the element of dramatisation is constructed
through the ways individuals are represented in the media, by focusing on the lifestyle and wealth
of the offenders, generated from the crime they

By 21 to 22 weeks after fertilization, the lungs gain some ability to breathe air. This is

fetuses 2. Describe some of the rapid growth that takes place during the first two years of life.
Growth is rapid during the first two years of life. The child s size, shape, senses, and organs
undergo change. As each physical change occurs, the child gains new abilities. During the first
year of the child s life, physical development mainly involves the infant coordinating motor
skills. The infant builds physical strength and motor coordination by repeating motor actions. 3.

I seen an infant was when I was at my uncle house before I left for school. Although it was quiet
and not making any noise the baby was very observant and was aware when I came in the room.

Media Influence on Public Policy Essays
Policymaking is a political process which is affected by various social and economic factors
(Hofferbert, 1974) and media systems play an integral role in shaping the social context in which
policies are developed. Through the media, citizens learn how government policies will affect them,
and governments gain feedback on their policies and programs. Media systems act as the primary
channels between those who might want to influence policyand the policymakers controlling the
scope of political discourse and regulating the flow of information. Textbook policymaking follows
an orderly sequence where problems are identified, solutions devised, policies adopted,
implemented, and lastly evaluated (Mazamanian Sabatier, 1989). In reality,... Show more content on

This effect does not refer to the sole influence of CNN on policymaking, but rather on the power of
global media networks to determine political processes through selective coverage of certain issues.
This is particularly important, as most of the public rely on the media for access to foreign policy
information (Brown Vincent, 1995). Gilboa notes that: The [CNN] concept was initially suggested
by politicians and officials haunted by the Vietnam media myth, the confusion of the post Cold War
era, and the communications revolution. Despite evidence to the contrary (Hallin, 1986), many
leaders still believe that critical television coverage caused the American defeat in Vietnam. Since
then, many have viewed the media as an adversary to government policies in areas such as
humanitarian intervention and international negotiation. (Gilboa, 2005, p. 37)
To determine whether the media has the power to influence policymaking, Robinson (2000)
devised the policy media interaction model (See Table 1), using the theoretical framework of press
state relations in the United States outlined by Hallin (1986). This model was applied to a number
of US humanitarian interventions, which took place in the 1990s. The results showed, that critical
reporting by the media with a strong pro intervention frame had a strong role in shaping the US
government policies when policymakers were uncertain about their actions but a weak role when

Holiday Inn has managed to retain these popular customers by giving them something back as a
return, which are the reward schemes, along with cheaper rates and discounts, although reward
schemes is the most popular way as it gives customers the chance to make the most out of their
stay. This is seen as a customer focus which is being used by HI s competitors.
Although their target focus is on business guest, HI are still able to attract other segment markets
with their facilities and products they have. This is based on their concepts which are production,
sales and marketing.
Looking at the production concepts, they have taken into account the segmentation market as a
whole, which has leaded them to keeping costs at a reasonable price just so it s affordable for
their segment market. With the prices being reasonable but not cheap, HI is able to use products
which can offer better quality and performances. This has given the hotel brand the advantage to
not be classified as a low budget hotel such as other high street hotels; Travel Lodge and Premier

James Cook Research Paper
James Cook transformed exploration with the use of modern technology to carry out his
explorations, specifically the use of navigation technology and even the use of mathematics.
Cook was a late bloomer in the age of exploration, but definitely made his mark, as he became
one of the most accomplished explorers of all time. Cook used the latest scientific methods and
techniques of cartography to chart his voyages to places such as Tahiti, Australia, New Zealand
and of course Hawaii. This led to more explorers from other countries following his lead in later
explorations during the 1700 s. The main reason Cook was put in the position to carry out these
three voyages was because of his known skills and ability to use this technology. Cook was... Show

He gained technical skills needed to make an effective explorer so he could continue to carry out
difficult explorations to un charted territories. He became accustomed and well off using a
sextant, chronometer and octant just to name a few. Cook further advanced the way explorers
navigate, stated in the text the contribution to the solution of the long standing and very grave
problem of calculating longitude was based upon the successful work of astronomers and
watchmakers his advancement of surveying and cartography gave scope for much greater
individuality (Price 6). Cook was one of the first to explore the Pacific and these technologies
had evolved over the years to where he relied heavily on them. Cook relied on them to configure
how much time and the distance it would take to sail to and from the various destinations. With
this introduction to this new technology, Cook could now always get back home without loosing
any crewman. Cook created many maps and to create accurate maps representing the explorations
he went on, it was important that latitude and longitude were accurately determined. Luckily for
Cook, navigators had been able to work out latitude accurately for centuries before him by
measuring the angle of the sun with a certain instruments, these being a backstaff or quadrant.
Longitude was certainly more difficult to measure accurately because it requires precise
standpoints of the time difference between points on the surface of the earth. On his first voyage,
Cook gathered accurate longitude measurements due to his navigational skills. Cook states, the

Human Cloning Should Not Be Banned
In 1997, Dolly, a successfully cloned sheep was born, forever opening the eyes of scientists in the
world of cloning. However due to unforeseen medical conditions she lived a short life, being put
down due to progressive lung disease and arthritis at the early age of six years old. Ever since
Dolly the sheep, it has been discussed in the scientific community whether or not humancloningis
possible, let alone a good idea. Though there are many people who are in favor of such scientific
abominations, there are still many who disagree and see the true evil. Within the many faults
involved in human cloning, there are moral reasons it should be banned such as, it being against
nature, religious activists would revolt, and uncertain results... Show more content on

It is said that the human population will reach eleven billion by the year 2100. We are quickly
becoming overpopulated and with creating human clones, we will surely reach that number much
sooner, making our population far much worse than it already is. Cloning would be a definite aid
to overpopulation. Overpopulation is a problem because it causes us to exhaust our natural
resources. With more lifeforms being created we would all require the same, if not more, nutrients.
As a civilization now, we are currently running thin on basic needs such as food, water, and oil.
Clones would be competing with humans for natural resources and the rate of consumption will not
keep up with rate of production. Overpopulation would lead to the cease of human existence by
diminishing the valuable natural resources we require to survive.
Science is known to push boundaries and having no limits. In science there are no laws or
anything that scientists can t do with their technology. Which is quite frightening when thought
about. Scientists are willing to go as far as their minds can possibly take them just for a new
invention or idea for an experiment. Project Artichoke would be a perfect example of scientists
urge to do as they wish. Project Artichoke was a mind control project taken place in the 1950s
which scientists wanted to see if they could get another individual to do their bidding against their

The Thought Of Owning Or Bringing Home A Cute Adorable
The thought of owning or bringing home a cute adorable puppy, or kitten, for the first time can
be an emotional and exciting time for families. Most pets, while they are young, receive lots of
love and attention from children and their owners, but what happens when the pets grow and get
older? Not every pet is brought to or born into a responsible home. Some pets that are no longer
wanted, are left behind or dumped out of town because it is easier than finding them a new home.
According to PETA, 6 million cats and dogs enter an animal shelter every year in the United States,

That a lot of kitties! Dogs will have 4 the 1st year, 12 the 2nd year, and 36 the 3rd year (SPCA).
This also depends on the size and breed of the dog; large dogs can carry more puppies. So, it s
important to have pets spayed and neutered, at least after 2 litters. According to Hill County Paw
Pals, the root of pet overpopulation stems for irresponsible people who allow their pets to
remain unsterilized, run at large, and to breed at will. Lately, Raymondville has had an increase
of strays, mostly dogs that roam around from house to house. It used to be just out of town
where people would leave or dump their dogs, puppies, old dogs, and pregnant female dogs. It s
unfortunate that some owners feel they cannot provide, or find, pets a new home, and thus
throw them away. Right now, there is nothing being done to the irresponsible owners and the
abandoned dogs. The local dog catcher can only hold up to 8 dogs which are given 3 days to be
claimed or they will be put down to make room for other dogs. The local veterinarian, Dr.
Pickard, passed away 3 years ago. He was the number one guy the locals would turn to for
vaccinations and general surgeries. Now residents must go to Harlingen or farther to get their pets
vaccinated and taken care of. That being said, it would help to have a local animal shelter or the

Disadvantages Of Job Fairs
Job seekers typically search corporate websites first during the job search process. Posting jobs
on company websites casts a broad net, capturing the interest of the largest possible talent pool.
Potential employees are instantly exposed to company highlights, diversity information,
employee benefits, and work life balance programs (Cascio, 2016). Career fairs are typically
industry specific which automatically refines the talent pool. Most career fairs require an upfront
participation fee however, companies can discern qualified candidates from unqualified candidates
rather quickly and save an exorbitant amount of recruitment expenses (Career Trend, 2017). Also,
this platform generates high applicant flow. External recruitment allows companies to choose
from a talent pool who could have been recently trained or educated therefore having up to date
knowledge and skills (Cascio, 2016). Because external candidates have not been exposed to office
politics and office norms they are more likely to accept change and innovation (Cascio, 2016).
Lastly, external recruitment provides a convenient way to satisfy job place diversity requirements
through hiring minorities and women (Cascio, 2016). DISADVANTAGES OF RECRUITMENT
ADVERTISING AND CAREER FAIRS Several issues arise due to the large talent pool attracted
from posting open positions on company websites. Often times, applicants have an incomplete and
/or inaccurate understanding of what the job opening involves ,

Death By Robin Henig Analysis
In Death by Robot, Robin Henig talks about what goes into the decision making of the robots
and the types of decisions that a robot will have to make, including the difficult ones. For one, he
talks about the algorithm that goes into effect when a robot is in a sticky situation. For example,
when a patient of the robot is asking for medicine, the robot has to check with the supervisor, but
the supervisor is not reachable. This is a situation in which the robot is in a hypothetical dilemma.
The robot is commanded to make its patient pain free but only if it can get permission to give the
patient medicine from the supervisor. Henig also talks about what the experts in the emerging field
of robot morality are going so that robots are able to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Personally I agree with the statements made by Asaro because I believe that human lives are too
valuable to let someone (more like something) else to control them. Also, I don t think that one
can input feelings in a robot which makes the robot lifeless. I think that there is too great of a
chance for a malfunction to occur and if we do not be careful the effects of the technological
advancement can be fatal. Personally I believe that things should stay as they are right now.
Why have a robot to take care of the elderly when it cannot decide without the approval of
another person? Why not hire a caretaker instead? Why should someone buy a driverless car
when you can either drive yourself or have someone drive you? I believe that we should
continue these practices because they involve our decision making and not that of a robot. I
believe that the only way a robot can be is when it is out fighting on the battlefield. I believe that
this is the only reason that a robot should be used because it can greatly lower the number of
fatalities in war, thus saving lives and helping families. Maybe one day the world will only use
robots for warfare so that men do not have to keep continuing to sacrifice for their families. This
will also help the families of the members in the army because when there is no loss, there is no
grief. In conclusion, I don t think that using robots for everyday

Comparing The Red Room by H.G. Wells and The Darkness Out There by Penelope Lively
The Red Room was the earlier of the two stories written in 1896 by H.G. Wells and The Darkness
Out There , written by Penelope Lively was published in1984.
The titles of both stories suggest that fear or horror will play a part. The Darkness Out There
generates an eerie feeling by not defining a specific threat but leaving it open to the imagination.
The Red Room is not as scary but the use of red often shows danger or fear and this is why it has
been used here.

everything is perfect. We are also introduced briefly to characters who we later meet again, Mrs
Rutter ( She s a dear old thing ) and Pat who, although she is not described as very nice looking,
runs a Good neighbours club for children. As the story opens Sandra is on her way to help Mrs
Rutter with one of the others from the club although she does not know who that will be.
We are suddenly told about Packers End and immediately it is clear that it is not a nice place, it
was where a German plane had come down during the war and it was said that people still heard
the pilots talking. You didn t go by yourself through Packers End if you could help it, not after
teatime, anyway. Packers End is described as a rank place, all whippy saplings and brambles and
a gully with a dumped mattress and a bedstead and an old fridge. And somewhere, presumably, the
crumbling rusty scraps of metal and cloth and … bones?
The Red Room however begins in an old dark castle and you are immediately plunged into the story
with descriptions and introductions happening along the way.

In both pieces of literature; Barrio Boy, by Ernesto Galarza and The Joy Luck Club, by Amy Tan;
the authors portray families and their struggle with language barriers, even within their own
families, adapting to the customs and routines of the North American society, and how the younger
family members succeeded in school, work, and relationships.
In Amy Tan s book The Joy Luck Club, the theme of the American Dream, which is the belief that
America is a guaranteed land of opportunity, of success and happiness is the main theme in the
story. It is of women who set off on a journey because in their own country they were suffering

Guadalupe, which was hung on the all over the sick child s head. She continued with the ritual but
unfortunately the child died in the morning. These two situations that happened in the books has
much to do with culture and traditions that the immigrants in the stories believe in and still
practiced, no matter where they resided. Lena s mother felt that having a house too high up could
ward of good spirits and would not bring good luck to the family, which is commonly known as
the practice of Feng Shui. In Ernesto s case he witnessed a prayer ritual for those who are very
sick, participated in this because his family members believe in a higher spirit and using the Virgin
of Guadalupe as a median and symbol for spiritual enlightenment.
In Amy Tan s book, the daughters experienced relationships with American men, and even
married some. In Rose Hsu Jordan s case she met Ted Jordan and started to date him. When Ted
invited Rose to his family picnic, Mrs, Jordan took Rose aside and confided that Ted s future did
not include a wife who was a member of a minority race.

During the observation, there were several instances of the teachers asking children how/why
questions in order to promote higher order thinking skills. For example, teachers were observed
asking, why is she going to the garden in order to promote higher order thinking skills. A few
questions to encourage children to make predictions were asked during choice time. Teachers
asked, How many fish do you think will fit in the bowl? as a way to encourage children to

experimentation, comparison, and how/why questions they encourage the children to think
more deeply about concepts and ideas. Creating: There were several observed moments of a

and share ideas during a lesson. Integration: There were a few instances of teachers linking

Freedom Of Speech In Political Cartoons
The editorial, weaponized words written by Kate Manne and Jason Stanley is a cry for help in
the world of politics, which argues that the freedom of speech laws allow for the voices of
dominant social groups to overpower those that are inferior. This opinion is also shown in the third
political cartoon provided, that shows two different social groups under the same freedom of speech
umbrella, who have to deal with each other constantly trying to oppress the other. These laws make
it hard for any advancement of the lower class societies.
The belief that the freedom of speech laws, or the first amendment, need to be more concrete can
be seen in the first political cartoon. This cartoon shows, again, two rival social groups, both are
equals, however one of the social groups is using their freedom of speech in a improper way, and
they are not being punished or prohibited in any way. This shows the oppression of a certain social
group that is not being stopped. Much like in the editorial, which states that Yale students are being
pressured into not wearing certain halloween costumes because they offend others , the cartoon
shows the use of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

member is telling people, in a rude and unnecessary manner, that he disagrees with what they are
doing. At the top of the cartoon, it states if only we had an NRA to defend the first amendment
which shows the belief that the first amendment is not getting enough support and protection, yet

The Theory Of Lying As Being The Most Widely Accepted...
Webster s Dictionary defines lying as an assertion of something known or believed by the speaker
to be untrue with the intent to deceive. Although there are many definitions of what lying is they
are often condemned wrong by many philosophers. Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy describes
one definition of lying as being the most widely accepted definition. A lieis a statement made by one
who does not believe it with the intention that someone else shall be led to believe it. The reason
this definition is often accepted by most is because in order to object and revise this definition in
anyway one must first explain the four imperative conditions for lying. An individual must first
make a statement, the individual must believe the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The individual telling the respectable lie does not lie for any type of personal gain or
satisfaction. In Judith Viorst piece The Truth about Lying, states the reason why people tell
respectable, or protective lies, is because they are often convinced that the truth would be too
damaging. Judith Viorst goes on to state that they lie because they feel there are certain human
values that supersede the wrong of having lied. An example Judith Viorst uses to describe this
type of lie is parents lying to their children about their marital status. The couple may not be
want to inform their children of their failing marriage to avoid the possibility of any emotional
damages the truth may cause. Another example of a respectable lie would be a combat medic lying
to a dying Soldier in order to keep the Soldier calm so they may pass away in peace.
An excusable can be described as a lie that is understandable and inconsequential. This specific
type of lie is universally known as a white lie. An excusable lie does not always cause harm to
any one person. Instead, this type of lie is most times used by an individual who is lying to avoid
blame or punishment. An example would be a Soldier showing up late to physical training because
they over slept and then telling their Sargent they were late because they had a flat tire. In The
Truth about Lying, Judith Viorst discusses social lies. She stated that most people she talked to

Strong And Weak Identifiers
According to the author, national identity is inherently social and is centered on people s strong
bond and sense of community with their fellow group members. People are placed into national
groups either by choice or by default. The strength of the person s membership depends on the
level of commitment they feel towards the national group. The level of commitment divides group
members into strong and weak identifiers. Group members of a national group that care about the
group s well being are considered strong identifiers. These members are strongly committed and
often see their national group membership as part of their sense of self. Strong identifiers hold and
follow group norms so they can be the best prototype for their national identity.... Show more

Strong identifiers are treated more fairly when they are seen as the prototype of the group. Their
opinions about their group are highly valued and taken into consideration between all of the
members. Because of their high commitment to their group, strong identifiers remain loyal though
hard times and times of doubt. They want to protect the group s image by focusing on the positive
aspects. When faced with negative information about their group, these members will defend their
group s actions and criticisms in order to protect the group image.
Group members do not tolerate weak identifier s criticisms. Their criticisms of their group are
often not listened to and disregarded by members who have stronger commitments. This could be
because weak identifiers do not share the same level of loyalty as strong identifiers. Weak
identifiers care less about the groups image and do not feel a strong need to defend the group.
I consider myself a strong identifier in being an American. I would say that I fit the typical
stereotype of an American. I support the choices Americans make and remain loyal even through
the bad decisions. When natural disasters or unexpected tragedies happen in America, I feel instant
empathy towards everyone that was effected, even if I have never met them. I see every American

The Philosophy And Philosophy Of Ibn Al- Гё Arab Ж’в„ў
Category: Religion/Philosophy/Islamic Philosophy and Theology
The main themes of the book consist of epistemological tools, i.e. revelation, the human intellect,
inspiration unveiling used by Ibn al КїArabД« and Ibn Taymiyya, and a theological subject, the
divine names and attributes that they have detailed elaborations on it.
Synopsis: The purpose of the book is to focus on potential similarities found in epistemological
hierarchies of Ibn al КїArabД« (d. 1240) and Ibn Taymiyya (d. 1328), and reflections of these
similarities on their theologies. At the first part of the book, which comprises of two chapters, I
examine revelation, the human intellect, and inspiration unveiling as epistemological means used
by both Ibn al КїArabД« and Ibn Taymiyya. Both of them claim to have followed precisely the
Quran and hadiths of the Prophet Muhammad when religious knowledge is in question. Unlike
some philosophers and Kalam theologians, who may consider the human intellect valuable equally
with the revelation, Ibn al КїArabД« and Ibn Taymiyya affirm the highest status of the Quran and
hadiths indisputably. Having confirmed the most elevated status of the revelation, namely the
Quran and hadiths, they differ prominently. For Ibn al КїArabД« the most reliable way of religious
knowledge is unveiling while for Ibn Taymiyya, the human intellect must be given precedence over
unveiling. Therefore, it can be said that the epistemological hierarchy of Ibn al КїArabД« is
constituted with the revelation,

First, I would like to tell you about the Golden Gate Bridge. I m pretty sure many of you may

Francisco, California in 1937. The Golden Gate Bridge spans or crosses the Golden Gate strait
which is a mile wide and 3 miles long. The weight of the roadway is hung from 2 cables that pass
through two main towers and are fixed in concrete at each end. Each cable is made of 27,572
strands of wire. There are 80,000 miles of wire in the main cables. These cables help support the
bridge because of the big distance. The bridge also has approximately 1,200,000 total rivets. So my
opinion about the bridge is that it is a very well made bridge and it also has a very good design.

details that many people miss out on and do not recognize the wrongful acts that are taking
place inside the restaurant. Throughout the hectic and typical day of a server, the first task that
the server does is ask the seated customers for what kind of drink they desire. Adults may proceed

President Of The United States
His power, his passion, is the fabric of America. And it s woven by work ethic and dreams and
drive and faith in the Almighty, what a combination. (S, Palin) Donald Trump is powerful,
persuasive and risky. As a candidate for President of the United States, Trump stands strong to
purported morals. His campaign video depicts him as the ultimate candidate ; an individual is
who has the ability to stand up for middle class American s yet be strong enough to institute
change, which the Obama administration has been perceived as failing to do. However we are
also able to see how Trump has used his power to shape his ideal self into something he is not.
Someone who uses codes and signifiers in his favour to fabricate new ideas and conventions.
Donald Trump has a strident voice, but those who stand with him appear silent in stark contrast.
The reason for this being that Trump s campaign, even down to his fan base, is centred on
oppression. His goal is to appeal to middle class, white citizens who feel that they have been
deprived of the American Dream. That is; the ideal that every US citizen should have an equal
opportunity to achieve success and prosperity through hard work, determination, and initiative
(Oxford Dictionaries). He targets this subgroup and directs their resentment to the people who have
tarnished this American Dream . For example, Trump has voiced that he wants to deport all
Mexicans and build a wall between the borders demonstrating his strong motive to

Terrorism And Terrorism Attacks
Intro The United States has had its share of terror attacks, whether it was a major destruction, or
simpler destruction. On September 11th of 2001 (9/11), there was a major crisis after learning
about the terror attacks that happened on the World Trade Center in New York. That is one of the
most memorable terror attacks that took place in the Unites States. It was a series of terror attacks
that took place and the Pentagon was also targeted during this time. It was determined that Islamic
nations were targeting the United States to gain insight to their political views. The Islamic terrorist
were so pressed on getting their points across that they didn t care about the lives that stood in their
way, including their own. Thousands of people lost their lives in these two attacks alone and
millions were affected. Since then, terrorismhas been a clear problem that has continued to show
itself over time throughout the United States. Terrorism is not limited to the United States, in
fact, terrorism has been linked to different areas of the world like Pakistan, Israel, Japan, and in
the Philippines. Terrorism can be anywhere from bombing, plane crashing, or just plain
assassinating, as long as their means were to get a message across. One example for an
assassinating shooting is the Orlando shooting that took place on June 12, 2016. The shooter was
classified as just a gunman to some, but he was classified as a terrorist to others because of the
actions he chose to take. He

Inherit The Wind Theme
Albert Einstein once said, We cannot solve the problems by using the same kind of thinking we
used when we created them. This idea is present throughout Inherit the Wind. Inherit the Wind is a
play that challenges both science and belief. Its plot surrounds an educator teaching Charles
Darwin s theory of evolution in a small town where the Bible is treated as the only book that
explains where humanity came from. The play s playwrights, Robert E. Lee and Jerome Lawrence,
is justifying, through Inherit the Wind, the perils of having a limited perspective and reveals that one
should expand one s horizons to continue progressing in life, prevent ignorance, and exclusion from
the rest of the world through their character s actions, dialogues,... Show more content on

Lee are present in their character s dialogue. As Drummond puts it, The Bible is a book. A good
book. But it s not the only book (Lawrence and Lee 98). Drummond is referring to Darwin s book
when he says that the Bible is not the only book. This is also his way of telling the spectators
and the jury that there is a world out there with boundless perceptions and by becoming intact
with the sole idea of God s creation, one misses that chance to meet that ever so changing world.
Once one misses that chance, one does not progress to one s full potential. At the same time,
Drummond also states, ... It s the loneliest feeling in the world to find yourself standing up when
everybody else is sitting down (Lawrence and Lee 51). Drummond is referring to the absence of
mind and the presence of ignorance in Brady s life due to his limited perspective. He is telling
Brady that while everybody else has opened their minds and started reconsidering their own
beliefs, he remains close minded and that feeling of isolation and exclusion from the rest of the
world is because of his ignorance. Brady s ignorance has not only affected the way he sees the
world, but also the way the world sees him. Correspondingly, Drummond states, All motion is
relative. Perhaps it is you who have moved away by standing still (Lawrence and Lee 67).
Drummond is speaking about

People traveling everyday to same place or nearby area and coming back should travel with each
other. In his way hundred vehicles on road can be bring down to twenty vehicles. Organizations
should also motivate and assist such actions of their employees. Consequently, people can save on
fuel, vehicle deterioration, carbon emission, driving inconvenience and journey with friends and
colleagues can be better than travelling alone.
Second solution is public transportation like shuttle, buses, trains, and so on. Using the public

Charlie Chaplin s Contributions to the Film Industry
Charlie Chaplin Every day millions of Americans go to theaters with their families to enjoy
movies. Watching films has become one of the most popular activities to do. Although plenty of
people know of Charlie Chaplin, most do not know any real information about him. Charlie
Chaplin has been a major contributor to America s advancement in the film industry from his
innovative beginnings, and perseverance to improve and succeed, to his overall achievements
in history. Charlie Chaplin was born in South London on April 16, 1889. He was the first child
of Hannah and Charles Chaplin. Charles was vaudeville actor. Hannah was a vaudeville singer.
Charlie s father was a drunk and he later left his family when he was three years old when he
found out his wife had an affair with another actor, Leo Dryden. They soon had a child named
George, who left to live with his father. Since Hannah was now a single mother, she was
struggling to find a way to provide for her children. She had another son that was older than
Charlie, from a previous relationship (Schwartz). Hannah s singing alone was not enough to
earn her the money to care for two boys. She took up sweatshop work on a sewing machine she
rented to earn extra income. Due to the small amount of income they had, Charlie s family
moved in and out of orphanages and boys homes on a regular basis. Hannah s career as a singer
ended abruptly in 1894. She lost her voice during a performance. While the crowd was getting

Many businesses make the fatal error of trying to expand at a quick rate which equates to
diminishing profit margins and going out of business. Kudler has chosen to grow slowly. This
will work to Kudler s benefit as long as KFF continues to move forward and not become
complacent. If growth cannot be sustained, the market will become stagnant and ultimately destroy
all that Kudler has worked towards. Kudler Fine Foods has discovered a market that is not overly
saturated and can prosper if a competent strategy is organized and executed. Kudler wants to
continue growing throughout California with goals of becoming a national gourmet food chain. In
order to achieve this, the president and chief operating officer, Kathy Kudler will have to continue
expanding in all areas including technology, products, human resources, systems and ideas. She will
also have to continue re investing profits into the company to ensure lasting growth and sustainable
cash. The marketing strategies of rewards programs, store demonstrations and incorporating
organic products are essential. Kudler also needs to devise additional promotions that will capture
the attention of the public. The company will need to hire a marketing consultant who will be able
to find ways to attract a broader clientele base and ensure that Kudler s name is visible within the
public domain by increasing awareness

For example; the blind man and the Narrator were going to draw a Cathedral together, and the blind man asks the man to close his eyes, and then the blind man put his hand on top of his hand and began to draw. It was not like nothing else in his life and he enjoyed the experience and that he could relate to the blindman (Craver, 1981, p. 32) The plot begins when a blind man comes to visit his wife they had not seen each other in a very long time. • 3. The Effects Of Smoking On The United States Smoking is established as a recognized cause of cancer, lung disease, coronary heart disease, and stroke(US Public Health Service,1964,Doll R 1976,1994, US Department of Health and Human Services,1989).it is considered to be the single most important avoidable cause of premature morbidity and mortality in the world. WHO has estimated that there are about 1100 million smokers worldwide; this represents about one third of the global population aged over 15 years (WHO,1997). About 73% of these smokers (700 million males, 100 million females) are in developing countries; in industrialized countries there are 200 million male smokers and 100 million female smokers. In the over 15 year old population of developing countries, it is estimated that about 48% of males and 7% of females are smokers. The corresponding figures for industrialized countries are 42% for males and 24% for females (WHO,1997). Logistic Regression Model: The logistic regression models has wide ranging applications from determining the population growth and its determinants to applications for predicting and analyzing qualitative data and in epidemiological studies. Logistic regression model postulates relationship between the log odds of a disease and the risk factors. A regression predicts the probability that an observation falls into one of two categories of a dichotomous dependent variable based on one or more independent variables that can be either continuous or categorical. • 4. Transit Oriented Development ( Tod ) Essay Introduction Transit Oriented Development (TOD) began as a counter movement to urban sprawl and it s economic, social, and environmental impacts by moving more towards the garden city movement of the 19th century be designating areas for specific land use, while also, employing the design of multiuse buildings. By looking at the greater Phoenix Metropolitan Area there is a need to accommodate for future cities by employing community and regional design concepts. Content The future of living is cities. Somehow the ancients understood it, but Americans in the 1950s decided cities were a thing of the past. The movement from the city to the suburb has been one of the single most expensive cultural migrations in world history. There is much more than the initial cost of a house with a yard. There are the environmental costs that accumulate from the destruction of wildlife from both, building materials and the clearing of area for the physical house. This initial cost also does not account for the supermarkets, and roads needed to sustain life in these suburban areas separated into pods. What about the costs of a car needed for transportation in these metropolises, and all their external costs as well? Those are not accounted for either, but suburban living was the American Dream for nearly half a century. However, as the American Dream, and family models, change there is an evident need for living conditions to change as well. There is not a singular way to design a city, but ... • 5. Export And Demand Of Goods From Other Countries For years upon years, countries have been requesting for other countries for supplies that they do not have for themselves. The countries would demand for that item and in return the other country would supply it for them. They would trade products in and out of their countries due to a term known as supply and demand. The goods and services that a country supplies and demands depends on the country and what they have. Since not every country has the same needs or has the same resources, there is a trade between countries at times. Comparing the countries and their supply and demands of imports and exports, the top countries for each have their reasons to why they re at the top, whether it be because they have less government restrictions... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some countries might supply, the amount of goods that a market can produce, and demand, the amount of goods the consumers are willing to buy, more than others, but they are still supplying and demanding something out of someone else. The country could demand something from its own citizens and the citizens would supply it, but it could be applied to an even bigger audience. A country could demand something from another country and in result, the other country would supply the demand to either keep its friendship with the other country, or to keep its reliance for when something is needed. Or the countries could do a simple trade of supplies they have that the countries demand. In result to supply and demand between countries, it creates utility, total satisfaction received from consuming a goods or service. Demand shows how much of a product a consumer is willing and able to consume, based on the price at a certain time period. The law of demand is, when prices are to fall, the quantity of the product that consumers want begins to rise. In simpler forms, when the price to an item drops, consumers are willing to buy more because they are cheaper and more affordable, more people are willing and able to buy the item. If it was to be the opposite, where the price was to increase, the demand for the product would decrease due to the price being more expensive. When prices are decreased, the quantity is increased, which gives the law of demand an inverse ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Curiosity In Fitcher s Bird In Fitcher s Bird, Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm emphasize that curiosity [gives] no rest as the women could not contain their suspicions of what was behind the door of the locked room (Bird 1). The Grimm brothers provide the reader with a life lesson focusing on how innocence and curiosity can ultimately lead to your downfall, but with the help of family, you can learn to overcome those obstacles and prevent those situations from happening again. By possessing these characteristics, the third sister was able to still see what was behind the locked door, yet be clever enough to get away with it by carefully [setting] the egg aside , so the egg would not be stained with the blood of the previous victims (Bird 2). Also, once the third sister passes the test of not opening the locked room, the sorcerer then made her his wife. Therefore, the third sister takes over the position of power by making the sorcerer secretly carry his sister s body parts in a basket back to her home. • 7. Horror Narrative Essay The horror genre has many lessons to teach us as an audience although being the genre most connected with that of ridiculousness. It is regularly associated with the reaction it seeks from its audience; both emotional and physical. In cinema success is measured by terrifying chills, bloody deaths and the volume of the audiences scream. The appeal of horror narrative in literature, film and theatre lies in the pleasures it associates with fear, suspense and terror; no matter what it is trying to convey to the audience. Even when writers layer the genre with academic thoughts on psychology, theology and the world in which we live in, horror remains the primary outlet to examine the notions of dread, uncertainly, mysterious and the abject.... These adaptations have gained cult followings and mixed reviews. In 2014 the London theatre scene will be dominated by horror on stage. The power of stage horror doesn t just match that of horror cinema, it can actually outdo it as it can carry a blow that is extremely intensified because it is live. The question for the stage though is how do we adapt iconic horror from screen to stage without the magic of high expensive technical effects? Horror on stage could be said to date back to the Ancient Greeks and their tales of incest, murder and revenge, only using the role of the messenger as narrator to the horrors that happened off stage. In modern times, however, we only need to look to Paris and the Théâtre du Grand Guignol, which presented explicit revenge tales from the late 1800s to the mid 1900s. The plays placed emphasis on ... The main issue is to do with the risk when nuclear energy is used. The chance of a nuclear disaster in a nuclear power plant is actually incredibly small, however, if the risk does occur, the consequence is devastating. (Gary Was, 2015). Australia also currently has no nuclear power generators, which is a surprise since it owns about 31% of the world s uranium resources. (Wikipedia, Last Modified 16 July 2015). Back in February 8th this year, Premier Jay Weatherill, said that there would be a, mature and robust conversation about South Australia s future participation in a nuclear fuel cycle, including the prospects for setting up nuclear power stations, uranium enrichment plants and a nuclear waste dump in the state. • 10. Solitary Confinement Essay In the United States the penal system is developed under two separate systems. One is the Auburn system and the second is the Pennsylvania system. The current system in the United States for solitary confinement was taken from the Pennsylvania model which was built for isolation and seclusion solitary confinement was used as an alternative form of punishment but at the time it was meant to provide a prisoner with solitude to reflect on his misdeeds It was used to help the prisoner repent, and restore his relationship with God. Solitary Confinement Cases In 1890, Supreme Court Justice Samuel Miller condemned the practice: A considerable number of the prisoners fell, after even a short confinement, into a semi fatuous condition, from which it was next to impossible to arouse them, and others became violently insane; others still, committed suicide; while those who stood the ordeal better were not generally reformed, and in most cases did not recover sufficient mental activity to be of any subsequent service to the community. In re Medley, 134 U.S. 160, 168 (1890) Another case was in 1995, Judge Thelton Henderson wrote that solitary confinement may well hover on the edge of what is humanly tolerable, and that for those who have been diagnosed mentally ill, placing them in solitary confinement is the mental equivalent of putting an asthmatic in a place with little air. Pakistan is I don t care Islamic when he is drooling over Katrina Kaif s assets at the movies. Conversely, Pakistan is full on Islamic when the same gent is at Friday prayers, nodding solemnly in agreement with the imam spewing religious hate speech. This brings me to the reason for my rant: Pakistan s newfound liberal conscience. Steered by the many brave columnists of the English language dailies, theirs is a revolution bent on destroying Pakistan s Islamist status quo. Since I am a card carrying coward, I will stick to mundane facts. Women get treated as inferiors in Pakistan, blame Islam. The economy has gone down the gutter, blame Islam. The politicians are all crooked and in bed with the Taliban, it must have something to do with the long dead Gen.Zia ul Haq! It completely eludes these braves that religion has been a social and political tool for rich humans to manipulate poor humans since time immemorial. The wider the class divide in any society, the better this tool works. Somehow, these writers also believe that underneath the Islamic straightjacket is a Pakistani soul made of pure white light. Stupidity, hence, is not innate, but remote controlled from Riyadh. This is a dangerous narrative because it dumps all of society s failings onto an invisible bogey instead of individuals owning up to their actions. Newsworthiness And White-Collar Crime Newsworthiness and its effect on white collar crime depiction The underrepresentation of white collar crime in the news media is caused by lack of newsworthiness elements required by journalists to sell their stories. In 1977, Chibnall study of newsworthiness has highlighted the eight professional codes that govern the construction of news stories, these include of immediacy, dramatisation, personalisation, simplification, titillation, conventionalism, structured access and novelty (Chibnall 1977, 23; Kidd Hewitt 1995,15). This concern leads to the focus of agency in the portrayal of white collar crime, rather than the depiction of the structural embeddedness of crime within the organisation culture. Moreover, past study has shown that majority of white collar crime portrayal in the news media has focused on crimes of individuals and their punishment, in order to minimise the negative publicity of corporations (Benediktsson 2010, 2202 2203). The news coverage of white collar crime has been selective (Stephenson Burton 1995, 137), as seen in the higher coverage of white collar crime stories involving well known individuals. Media Influence on Public Policy Essays Policymaking is a political process which is affected by various social and economic factors (Hofferbert, 1974) and media systems play an integral role in shaping the social context in which policies are developed. Through the media, citizens learn how government policies will affect them, and governments gain feedback on their policies and programs. Media systems act as the primary channels between those who might want to influence policyand the policymakers controlling the scope of political discourse and regulating the flow of information. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This effect does not refer to the sole influence of CNN on policymaking, but rather on the power of global media networks to determine political processes through selective coverage of certain issues. This is particularly important, as most of the public rely on the media for access to foreign policy information (Brown Vincent, 1995). Gilboa notes that: The [CNN] concept was initially suggested by politicians and officials haunted by the Vietnam media myth, the confusion of the post Cold War era, and the communications revolution. Despite evidence to the contrary (Hallin, 1986), many leaders still believe that critical television coverage caused the American defeat in Vietnam. Since then, many have viewed the media as an adversary to government policies in areas such as humanitarian intervention and international negotiation. (Gilboa, 2005, p. 37) To determine whether the media has the power to influence policymaking, Robinson (2000) devised the policy media interaction model (See Table 1), using the theoretical framework of press state relations in the United States outlined by Hallin (1986). This model was applied to a number of US humanitarian interventions, which took place in the 1990s. The results showed, that critical reporting by the media with a strong pro intervention frame had a strong role in shaping the US government policies when policymakers were uncertain about their actions but a weak role when government policies ... He became accustomed and well off using a sextant, chronometer and octant just to name a few. Cook further advanced the way explorers navigate, stated in the text the contribution to the solution of the long standing and very grave problem of calculating longitude was based upon the successful work of astronomers and watchmakers his advancement of surveying and cartography gave scope for much greater individuality (Price 6). Cook was one of the first to explore the Pacific and these technologies had evolved over the years to where he relied heavily on them. Cook relied on them to configure how much time and the distance it would take to sail to and from the various destinations. With this introduction to this new technology, Cook could now always get back home without loosing any crewman. Cook created many maps and to create accurate maps representing the explorations he went on, it was important that latitude and longitude were accurately determined. Luckily for Cook, navigators had been able to work out latitude accurately for centuries before him by measuring the angle of the sun with a certain instruments, these being a backstaff or quadrant. Longitude was certainly more difficult to measure accurately because it requires precise standpoints of the time difference between points on the surface of the earth. On his first voyage, Cook gathered accurate longitude measurements due to his navigational skills. Cook states, the appearance of this Cape and Hermites Islands is represented in the last view in the chart which I have drawn of this coast from our first making land unto Cape Horn in which is included Strait Le Maire and part of Staten land (Price 23). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is said that the human population will reach eleven billion by the year 2100. We are quickly becoming overpopulated and with creating human clones, we will surely reach that number much sooner, making our population far much worse than it already is. Cloning would be a definite aid to overpopulation. Overpopulation is a problem because it causes us to exhaust our natural resources. With more lifeforms being created we would all require the same, if not more, nutrients. As a civilization now, we are currently running thin on basic needs such as food, water, and oil. Clones would be competing with humans for natural resources and the rate of consumption will not keep up with rate of production. Overpopulation would lead to the cease of human existence by diminishing the valuable natural resources we require to survive. Science is known to push boundaries and having no limits. In science there are no laws or anything that scientists can t do with their technology. Which is quite frightening when thought about. The Thought Of Owning Or Bringing Home A Cute Adorable The thought of owning or bringing home a cute adorable puppy, or kitten, for the first time can be an emotional and exciting time for families. So, it s important to have pets spayed and neutered, at least after 2 litters. According to Hill County Paw Pals, the root of pet overpopulation stems for irresponsible people who allow their pets to remain unsterilized, run at large, and to breed at will. Lately, Raymondville has had an increase of strays, mostly dogs that roam around from house to house. Posting jobs on company websites casts a broad net, capturing the interest of the largest possible talent pool. Potential employees are instantly exposed to company highlights, diversity information, employee benefits, and work life balance programs (Cascio, 2016). Career fairs are typically industry specific which automatically refines the talent pool. Most career fairs require an upfront participation fee however, companies can discern qualified candidates from unqualified candidates rather quickly and save an exorbitant amount of recruitment expenses (Career Trend, 2017). Also, this platform generates high applicant flow. External recruitment allows companies to choose from a talent pool who could have been recently trained or educated therefore having up to date knowledge and skills (Cascio, 2016). Because external candidates have not been exposed to office politics and office norms they are more likely to accept change and innovation (Cascio, 2016). Lastly, external recruitment provides a convenient way to satisfy job place diversity requirements through hiring minorities and women (Cascio, 2016). I think that there is too great of a chance for a malfunction to occur and if we do not be careful the effects of the technological advancement can be fatal. Why not hire a caretaker instead? Why should someone buy a driverless car when you can either drive yourself or have someone drive you? I believe that we should continue these practices because they involve our decision making and not that of a robot. I believe that the only way a robot can be is when it is out fighting on the battlefield. I believe that this is the only reason that a robot should be used because it can greatly lower the number of fatalities in war, thus saving lives and helping families. The level of commitment divides group members into strong and weak identifiers. Group members of a national group that care about the group s well being are considered strong identifiers.
