Automobile Pollution Essay
Automobiles Consuming Fossil Fuels and Pollution in America
Why do Americans buy so many products knowing they are causing pollution? That may be
because they enjoy shopping. Every product causes some sort of pollution. For instance,
automobiles cause a great amount of pollution. The sad part is that the mass production of
automobiles has been growing larger every year, ever since the Model T Fords came out.
Between 1908 and 1927, Ford produced about 15 million Model T cars, which is on average 790
thousand cars produced every year. Today, the company sells about 2.5 million automobiles
annually. In other words, Ford produces over 3 times as many automobiles today. Over production
and consumption of automobiles induces the consumption of fossil fuels. Consuming gasoline to
run cars was the idea of over a century ago. With the quantity of the production of cars today, it is
not efficient to use the same old method to run cars. Water and oxygen are most vital for humans. If
we pollute all of the water and air in the world, extinction will be our only option. Americans should
eliminate the excessive consumption of automobiles because it leads to overconsumption of fossil
fuels, which causes pollution. Three common types of pollution are air pollution, water pollution,
and noise pollution.
In the past century, cars and trucks have turned from objects of desire into a person s basic needs.
After factories, automobiles are the biggest air polluters of America. Air pollution is a

Herta Muller Research Paper
Herta MГјller
Writing is told from within ones self through expressions and thoughts. Creating stories are what
people do as they walk through life, opening and closing doors, and creating history. Becoming
banned to publish in your own country about the struggles and accomplishments throughout your
childhood you would not think would be a problem. It takes unique individuals to accomplish this.
Nobel Prize winner of Literature in 2009, Herta Muller has done this. Her intense, descriptive
novels, essays, poems, and short stories explaining her issues and strategies growing up in a
country which forced labor and banned her from publication is why she won. Herta MГјller has
discovered strength and independence through writing, becoming the woman she is today.

With strategic language, details, and events laid out, she writes in a way which carries her
stories and makes them a magnificent read. She recited everything in such detail, in ways it is as

Englund, Permanent Secretary of the Swedish Academy states, She has a story to tell growing up
in a dictatorship and a minority in another country. And, also, growing up in sort of a stranger for
your own family. These words describe in a summary how MГјller feels about not only Romania,
but Germany too. A quote from Herta MГјller: It is very conservative minority and thus I was
exuded, and I always was exuded from Romanian society for political reasons. And then I came to
Germany and here in Germany I was always the Romanian, and in Romania I was always the
German. So somehow one is always the other. MГјller not only found ways to live with the frown

Ichabod Crane Character Analysis
Ichabod Crane s adventure related in The Legend of Sleepy Hollow demonstrates where someone
s unchecked and undesirable personality traits can lead him. Washington Irving wrote The Legend
of Sleepy Hollow in 1820. The story describes how Ichabod Crane persistently frightened himself
by supposing he saw and heard supernatural beings. When Crane competed with Brom Bones for a
lady s love, Bones took advantage of Ichabod Cranes character flaws scaring him out of town by
impersonating the dreaded Headless Horseman. Ichabod Crane s greed, superstition, and
fearfulness resulted in his downfall. Ichabod Crane s greed hindered his relationship with the
townspeople, making some, such as Brom Bones, pleased to expel Crane from town, and others
indifferent to his leaving. Crane had a great gluttonous appetite, so he lived successively a week
at a time in his pupils homes because they could not afford to house such a gourmand (Irving
17). Moreover, he earned the distaste of the town s other men while trying to earn the affections
of Katrina Van Tassel, whom he hoped to marry because of her wealth. He knew if the marriage
occurred, many delicious meals would await him. The pedagogue s mouth watered as he looked
upon this sumptuous promise of luxurious winter fare, (Irving 20). Furthermore, Ichabod Crane s
greed extended even to a love of power, which he executed over his schoolhouse. For slovenly,
naughty, or lazy children, he always had his whip ready. Proudly, he

Study on Teat Tablets of Sodium Ibuprofen
1. The aim of the study was to work out a prescription for a teat tablet with sodium ibuprofen of
high rate of therapeutic agent release. Studies have been undertaken on the evaluation of xylitol and
sorbitol effect on morphological and physicochemical parameters of the produced tablets and on
pharmaceutical availability of sodium ibuprofen.
2. Two kinds of tablets containing 50 mg of sodium ibuprofen were developed. Sorbitol was the
basic formulating component of batch A tablets and xylitol of batch B tablets. Quality tests of the
produced forms of a drug (PP IX) were performed and the tests of therapeutic agent pharmaceutical
availability by pharmacopeal paddle method and by a method with a teat.
3. The tablets of both batches had smooth surface and the same shape. The content of the
therapeutic agent was within the limit 95 105% of the declared value. No essential differences
were demonstrated in the profile of sodium ibuprofen release from the tablets of both batches in the
paddle test. However, the observed significant decrease of the hardness of batch B tablets
contributed to the expected rapid sodium ibuprofen release from tablets tested by the method with a
teat.
4. The batch A and B teat tablets with sodium ibuprofen demonstrated the expected
physicochemical parameters and high pharmaceutical availability in the spatula test. Batch A
tablets with xylitol showed more beneficial applicative parameters and a high value of Q

Street Gangs And Its Effects On The Minds Of Today s Youth
Street gangs have played a major role in the minds of today s youth. For some youth, joining a
gang is considered to be a rite of passage. Most youth join gangs to have a sense of brotherhood
and sisterhood, to be accepted, to feel protected, and to feel like they belong (Violent Prevent
Institute, 2016). In most cases, they look up to the older men or women in gangs for guidance not
realizing that in most cases, the older people who are in the gangjoined for the same reasons
(Violent Prevent Institute, 2016). In most city neighborhoods, joining a gang is the urban
equivalent of joining the Cub Scouts or a Brownie troop in the suburbs. For a lot of the older gang
members, it is a matter of simple economics. They often cannot find legal work and certainly
nothing that pays nearly as well as selling drugs and committing crimes (Violent Prevent Institute,
2016). Youth want to have the same flashy lifestyle that provides them with expensive clothing,
drugs, sex, and respect (Violent Prevent Institute, 2016). Gang violence is something that affects
us all in many ways. A lot of people are terrified of gang violence. With every wrong decision,
there could be major consequences following it.
In the United States, there is estimated to be over 1.5 million people in gangs and roughly 35,000
different gangs operating. Some recognizable gangs are Gangster Disciples, Black Disciples, Bloods
, Crips, Two Six, and Latin Kings (Hagan, 2016). Among those gangs are other street gangs,

Summer Camp Descriptive Essay
Summer Camp The bus decelerated to a stop and we were there, Crystal Lake. I wasn t there
willingly, but my parents made me go with my cousin, Sandra. They said that this would help
bring me closer to God, but I think they just needed a break from me. I ve always detested
summer camp, especially the ones from church. The kids from there are always so annoying,
and I m forced to put up with them for a whole week. When we got to the camp, it was about
5:30. The group leaders assigned our cabins, which consisted of four bunk beds, two dressers, and
a small couch. After that, we all went on a hike and came back for dinner. I was exhausted, and
honestly, I was already over it. After, everyone showered and got settled into their cabins. All

The sun was setting, and the lake sparkled under the remaining sunlight, reflecting the sky s pink
and orange hues. It was beautiful here but i still longed to be home. My thoughts were almost
interrupted when i saw it. There, on the other side of the lake stood the strange woman, staring
directly at me.
Are you alright? inquired Sandra. I froze. I didn t know what to tell her. I debated whether or not I
should say something. I stayed quiet for a moment, then, I finally answered her.
Yeah, I m fine why? I replied. Sandra tilted her head and looked at me for a moment.
You seem a little...off. Are you sure you re alright? she asked, once again.
Mhm, I m fine, I told her. She looked at me for a moment then just nodded. I wasn t fine though, I
felt uneasy. When it got later, we went to our cabin, and once again, the girls stayed up talking
while I listened to my music. I turned up the volume all the way and tried, unsuccessfully to get the
thought out of my mind. I wasn t sure why she was there, or if she was even a threat, but the way
she just stood there staring at me creeped me out. The thought kept poking at me so out of
curiosity, I went up to the window and opened the curtains. I examined the forest and searched to
see if the woman was there. I was determined to find her, but she wasn t there. I went back to my

The Physics Of The Atomic Theory
In chemistry, it has been stated that atoms are the basic building blocks of ordinary matter that
contain protons, neutrons, electrons, and can join to form molecules. (Gagnon) Atoms are really
tiny and are considered the source of nuclear energy in all kinds of matter. The atomic theory
became a very important piece in chemistry because it explained the atomic structure and how it
worked. Important scientists that helped contribute to this theory were people like John Dalton and
J.J. Thompson which helped establish a foundation to the theory, as well as create experiments that
helped provide evidence of their findings. John Dalton was an important scientist that established
the atomic theory. His theory was as follows: 1.All matter is made of atoms. Atoms are invisible
and indestructible. 2. All atoms of given elements are identical in mass and properties. 3.
Compounds are formed by a combination of 2 or more different kinds of atoms. 4. A chemical
reaction is a rearrangement of atoms. 5. Atoms cannot be created or destroyed. (Leon) Dalton
brought up this information while using his gas experiments and it helped him determine the
properties of atoms. Although Democritus had somewhat already had a theory on matter, Dalton
explored and expanded the theory into what it is today. Dalton was inspired and borrowed the term
atomos or atoms from Democritus to label his particles. (Leon) Dalton also created the first chart of
atomic weights and introduced his belief that atoms

Instructional Setting And Content Area Essay
Instructional Setting and Content Area The instructional setting for this unit is an elementary
school. All lessons will be taught to a fourth grade glass, consisting of 24 students. The lessons will
take place during the assigned math block (an 80 minute portion of the day). These lessons will be
a scaffolded focus on problem solving, specifically multiplication and division word problems.
Instructional Problem The vast majority of incoming and current 4th grade students in this school
haven t yet mastered the state standard for problem solving (Standard 4.OA.A.3). Specific
standards are set by the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) and adopted by Washington State
(Common Core State Standards Initiative, (n.d.)), and require students to be able to solve multi
step word problems in all four operations. Incoming fourth grade students struggle with solving
these word problems accurately. These students need to pass the state mandated Smarter Balanced
Assessment (SBA) which requires completion of a problem solving performance task. Their score
on this assessment will determine their placement in grade 5 at the district s middle school.
Students have difficulty with word problems mostly based on lack of strategies and poor language
interpretation. While fact fluency may be present, the ability to interpret vocabulary to guide
computation leaves many students unable to construct mathematical models to interpret or solve
problems. Students have difficulty in analyzing

Assignment On Deck Repairs And Costs
Deck Repairs and Costs
The type of wood that comprises your deck will play a big role in determining what repairs are
necessary, and on what timeline. While composite decks are becoming more and more popular,
there s just no denying the beauty and longevity of a wood deck. Wood decks should last for
several decades when properly maintained, and cost less to install than composite decks.
Wood decks also increase the value of your home, and it is estimated that a standard wood deck
will recoup on average 85.4 percent of its cost when the house is sold. In comparison, a composite
deck will only recoup an average 77.6 percent of its total cost.
Regardless of which type of wood your current deck is made of, the following repairs are most
often required at some point in the life of your deck:
Replacing Deck Boards
One of the most common repair projects is replacing deck boards. You might need to do this for a
variety of reasons, including:
в—ЏInstability If the boards themselves have become unstable, they should be replaced.
Replacing a few deck boards will generally run $500 to 4,000. Some companies charge a minimum
of $1,000 for carpentry repairs, so be sure to get quotes.
в—ЏStairs and/or railing that are loose or not up to code Depending on the severity of the issue
with your stairs or railing, expect to pay anywhere from $500 to $4,000 for this type of repair job,
depending on local rates and materials.

Introduction
The earlier development of the law enforcement was developed by a man named Sir Robert Peel
also known as the Father of Modern Policing (Bennett Hess, 2007). He was born February 5, 1788
in Chamber Hall near Bury in Lancashire (Bloy, n.d.). He was the one who greatly influenced and
set forth the fundamental principles of the police force. He developed an organized force called the
London Metropolitan Police in 1829 that protected the people who were victimized due to high
unemployment, poverty, and crime. An organization is an artificial structure created to
coordinate either people or groups and resources to achieve a mission or goal (Bennett Hess, 2007).
The police s goal is to protect and serve their community. Although the term of a police officer is
mixed up with a peace officer all police officers are peace officers, but all peace officers are not
police officers (Walker Katz, 2011). The principles that Sir Robert Peel set for the police include:
Police must be stable, efficient, and organized militarily (Bennett Hess, 2007).
Police must be under governmental control (Bennett Hess, 2007).
The deployment of police strength

Education Policy Synthesis Essay
While many White Americans believe in merit based accomplishments, and that everyone has equal
opportunity to succeed, the achievement of minority groups is not welcome. Authors Chavez et al.,
outline the undocumented immigrant student experience, and how white meritocracy is merely a
pipe dream for those students. (2007) As young children, undocumented students, sometimes not
aware of their status, are told that if they work hard throughout their entire elementary/high school
career, that work will be paid off with acceptance into a university, or a good job.
According to Gillborn (2007), there are priorities that are considered when creating education
policy, and those priorities often only align with the interest of white individuals. Following ... Show

Gillborn addresses how minoritized students have not shared equally in the improved attainments
associated with recent reforms, his example being testing and model minorities , can be applied to
undocumented students and the DREAM ACT. Actually the exact opposite of the model minority ,
due to the fears Americans hold towards undocumented peoples becoming citizens through the
DREAM Act. Lastly, what are the effects of the policy? Central reform strategies are known to
work against race equity, but are nevertheless promoted as best practice for all. These reforms are
known to discriminate in practice regardless of intent, and are therefore racist in their
consequences. (2007) In regards to undocumented students, the long term implications of limiting
access to higher education are significant, and the restriction of education will perpetuate exclusion
and stratification of minority ethnic and immigrant groups. (Palmer, 2011) Not providing
undocumented students with access to higher education is only hurting the U.S. in the long run as
well as the students. Yet, when white individuals are creating or rejecting education policies that
they think are for the best, in actuality undocumented students suffer and the U.S. economy takes a

Chiricahua Fort Sill Apaches The Chiricahua band of the larger Apache tribe was fractured
through attempted assimilation by the United States government. The attempted assimilation of a
regionally nomadic people whose entire society spiritually and culturally is based upon ties to
nature leads to an eventual violent reaction by a portion of the tribe, through propagation of fear
and political pressure the entire band is taken into custody with prisoner of war status. Eventually
this status will define and even give way to the only federally created tribe, a unique distinction
created through a federal over reach of power that can be considered genocidal in nature. This tribe
is known as the Fort Sill Apaches.
In order to understand the Chiricahua band of the Apaches the land from which they come must be

Throughout the novel the reader will see that Huck has an adventurous personality, comes to find
out who is father is and tries to help Jim, the runaway slave, to live and hopefully see his family

Also, it was a liberal word that was used to describe African Americans and Mark Twainwas just
using this word as to portray how the Southerners talked and wanted to maintain the reality of
the book. Readers who read Huck Finn may find it hard to read due to the fact that Mark Twain
uses the language of his time period as the language in the book and that involved using
profanity and not showing lots of respect towards either the white Southerners or the black
Southerners, that is why most people reading this will not be able to handle either the profanity
or the reality of how people we treated in the South during the early 1800 s. A second thing that
most people who read or have read this would probably think that this is a controversial book,
but in fact it s actually a classic, with real life events or situations. What some people do not
realize is that Huck Finn uses profanity as so does the real world, but so does music and movies
and if their trying to get books banned because it uses profanity then they should try to get music
and movies banned too. Huck Finn is just a young boy living to survive and helping Jim along
the way. He s just living a most people back in the day and that is real life, there s nothing
controversial about that. Also, some people think while reading this book that Jim was a bad
person and was influencing Huck while they were together when in reality Jim was a positive role

Given the changes in atmosphere and various weather and atmospheric events on various stages,
we will be looking at including various map wide effects that slow or stop towers due to events
on the stages. The major events we are currently thinking about are blizzards, lightning storms,
and volcanic activity. Blizzards, on stage 1, can cause a slowing or complete stop of towers and
enemies found on the stage as mobility can be locked down or limited to prevent damage to
central machinery. Lightning storms, on stage 2 and 4, can cause short term damage to what is
hit, and possibly power fluctuations in mechanical foes and towers causing a stall in the unit
/tower s work. Volcanic activity, on stage 4, can be distant and result in the falling of hot flakes of
debris and ash. It could also be a lockdown or clearing of parts of the level dependent on how we
feel we need to balance the game at those points. Another possible effect would be, on stage 5,
meteor showers and other objects falling onto the surface causing damage or alterations to the map
itself.

The Importance Of Resistance In Nazi Germany
Resistance is always possible no matter the consequences. It is moral, and necessary even when
the odds of success are slim and failure s consequences may lead to death or great suffering. All
resistance is moral and imperative when the resistors are trying to save their own ideas, beliefs
and others while going against the wrongful established order. Without it the consequences of no
resistance are far greater. Those who put their lives on the line to help and save other people are
heroes. This was evident during World War II when individuals, such as normal citizens like the

When a country, like France, experiences freedom and it s taken away, they want it back. They
long to have that freedom again. The Nazis took it away, so some of the French people resisted.
They decided to maintain a positive attitude toward a country that, more than any other, offered
freedom and the chance for a decent life. People didn t want to give up the opportunity for a
decent life for themselves and their children, if they didn t do something, they weren t going to
get it back. It became a matter of survival and way to fight for their former independence. Just
like the French people lost their governmental independence, people can lose their ethical
independence. When people like Adolf Eichmann surrendered their mind to Nazi authority, he
gave up his freedom. He didn t resist. Even though he didn t hold a high position in the Nazi
bureaucracy, he had an impactful role of oppressing others. Surrendering his mind to the Nazis is
extremely scary, because it shows how vulnerable humans are. This proves that so many [humans]
were like him, and that the many were neither perverted nor sadistic, that they were, and still are,
terribly and terrifyingly normal. If resistance does not occur, who wins? More normal people will

The Ideological Concept Of Insanity Defense
The ideological concept of an insanity defense, formerly termed complete madness, was originally
incorporated into the English common law jurisprudence system in the late thirteenth century of the
United Kingdom as an affirmative defense for defendants under the yoke of criminal charges
involving a heinous action which could involve the option of termination of a defendant s life if
adjudge guilty of such act (Hill). Through such incorporation of a legal defense, the institution of a
new societal grouping known commonly as the criminally insane became expounded, as well as,
the legal opportunity allowing for self declaration of being innocent by reason of mental illness or
defect (or, the insanity defense). Those criminally insane are a subset of the prison population who
have been deemed to have committed their crimes under the influence of a mental disease/disorder,
or who were not in a condition of intellect during the time of the crime to comprehend the illegality
or immorality of their offense (Frontline). Only if the defendant has plead insanity before the court
can they be considered a truly criminally insane inmate. There are manifold condemnations
sustained by the judicial system ranging from guilty but insane to not guilty by reason of insanity,
as well as the legal states of incompetency and diminished capacity. This distinction has become a
substance of federal law, but as soon as a defendant is convicted, the treatment of the convicted
individual is left

alimentary tract. The four enteral routes of administration include the mouth, sublingual, buccal
and rectal. Parenteral refers to routes of administration outside of or beside of the alimentary tract.
The parenteral route includes intravascular (IV), Intramuscular (IM) and subcutaneous (SC) routes
of administration. The parenteral routes are used for drugs that are poorly absorbed or that are
unstable in the GI tract. The parenteral routes are used in unconscious patients or when a fast

The passage of the drugs is not affected by lipid solubility or pH. [2]
Proximal tubular secretion:
The drug that do not enter the glomerular filtrate leaves the glomeruli though efferent arterioles.
The arterioles divide to form a capillary plexus surrounding the nephric lumen in the proximal
tubule. The occurrence of secretions mainly occurs in the proximal tubule. This happens by active
transport, one for anions and one for cations. Active transport requires energy. The two systems
have low specificity and can transport many compounds. [2]
Distal tubular reabsorption:
The concentration of the drug will exceed that of the perivascular space due to the increase in
concentration as the drug moves toward the distal convoluted tubule. The drug may diffuse back
into the circulation if it is uncharged. In attempt to minimize the diffusing back into circulation, the
pH of the urine may be manipulated to increase the ionised from of the drug. [2]
Below is a diagram to show renal elimination.
[4]
People with kidney problems/disease must have the dosage of drugs administered adjusted as they
have a lower glomerular filtration rate than those without kidney problems/disease. People with
renal dysfunction and those on dialysis are often given opioids for pain relief. Adjusting the dosage
for a therapeutic effect without overdosing is difficult for patient with renal dysfunction and those
on dialysis. Giving opioids to the patient

Patriarchy in Jane Austen s Sense and Sensibility Essay
Patriarchy in Jane Austen s Sense and Sensibility
Despite the fact that Jane Austen has become what Julian North describes as a conservative icon in
popular culture signified by her depictions of traditional class and gender hierarchies, sexual
propriety and Christian values, the novel _Sense and Sensibility_ provides, if not a feminist
perspective, a feminist discourse lacking in Emma Thompson s film version (North 38). In this
essay, I attempt to argue briefly that the novel, which initially seems to uphold cultural norms of
sexuality and does little to question women s subaltern position, can be read to undermine the
patriarchy and especially male controlled courtship rituals. Next I seek to demonstrate how the film

Julian North, noting that critics have often read Elinor s triumphant sense as validating an anti
individualist reactionary viewpoint in which the self must submit to the moral and religious order
of society, offers a contrasting opinion (39). Other critics read adherence to conservative ideology
as a cover story ...for the implicitly rebellious vision ...of a writer acutely conscious of the
confinements of patriarchy (North 39). This feminist reading of _Sense_ is most cogent when the
reader is privileged to Elinor s own thoughts. Elinor s sense, manifested in her stoic silence and
inner thoughts, contrasts with Marianne s sensibility, notably with her emotive soliloquies and
dialogues, to offer a verbal resistance to their mutual misfortune. The discourse between sense and
sensibility in the book offers a means to combat the misfortune the women in the novel suffer, and
each temperament leads its possessor to ultimate happiness, even if sense is clearly favored.
Similarly, the sisterly bond of the Dashwoods offers an alternative narrative to the traditional
courtship romance. Deborah Kaplan acknowledges that several critics that the friendships of the
women characters with one another are at least as important as their relationships with male
characters and that these relationships sometimes seem[] to overshadow Sense and Sensibility s
courtship plot (184). Perhaps the most noticeable deviation from the two courtship plots in the
novel is

Features Of A Network Topology Essay
2.1 Topology:
Actually here we are discussing about a network topology. A topology is the physical
configuration of a network that determines how the network s computers are connected. The way
in which constituent parts are arranged. The physical topology of a network is the actual
geometric layout of workstations. There are several common physical topologies based on the
configuration. They are Star Topology, Ring Topology, Buss Topology, Mesh Topology, Hybrid
Topology and Tree Topology.
2.2 Star Topology:
Star topology is one of the most common network setups. In this arrangement, every node connects
to a central hub, switch or computer; the hub acting as a server and the peripheral devices as
clients. A major disadvantage of this network topologyis that if the central hub fails, all of the
connected devices are disconnected. In a star network layout, each workstation is connected by its
own cable directly to the server. Star networks are usually the layout of choice in schools and
offices because they tend to be the most reliable of the topologies. The visual example shows how
this setup gets its name as it is shaped very much like a star.
FIGURE 2.1: Star Topology
Advantages:
Star networks are very reliable. If one connection fails, it does not affect other users
Very few data collisions as each workstation has its own cable to the server
Good security no workstation can interact with another without going through the server first
Easy to install

My Love Of Theatre
I have been a performer my entire life, and want to continue to impact those around me through
theater. In my life, I have not yet encountered such a raw reflection of human life and emotions.
My love of theater began at a young age, and since then I have seen how the twists and turns of
plays and musicals can deeply impact an audience. My freshman year I actually performed at
my school s brother school and played Celisse in Godspell. My sophomore year I played Mrs.
Harcourt in Anything Goes, my junior year I was the Wardrobe in Beauty and the Beast, and this
year I was the Bird Woman in Mary Poppins. My favorite performances, however, is Spring Sing,
a student run production where classes compete for bragging rights. I have been an actor in Spring
Sing since my freshman year and my class hopes to win this year!
Being able to express myself through song, acting, and dance is a form of meditation for me. It is
a time where I am able to completely forget about my own anxieties and focus on the worries of
the character. Roles are static until you make them come alive, and that is where there is room for
creative expression.
My greatest skill is knowing how to improvise on and off stage. Being able to improvise is one of
the most important skills an actor can learn. I have been in improv club since my freshman year of
high school, and truly believe that it has helped me with my communication skills and self
confidence. These classes teach me how to use my environment to my

Many Symbols in the Scarlett Letter
Roger Ebert said, If you have to ask what it symbolizes, it didn t. There are many symbols in The
Scarlet Letter. The most known one was the letter itself. The meaning of the letter appears clear at
first but as the book progresses you see the letter s meaning shift with Hester s character. The
magistrates intended the letter to represent the sin of adultery. And while of course, people did shun
her at the very beginning, the shaming technique could not weather the test of time. The A soon
began to lose its shameful meaning and instead become a symbolic example of Hester s courage
and show that public shaming cannot compete with one s own means of self torture. To begin, the
scarlet letterhad lost its meaning over the course of time. Then, also, the blameless purity of her
life during all these years in which she had been set apart to infamy was reckoned largely in her
favor. (Chapter XIII) The author s purpose is to call attention to the Puritan s weak shaming
system. For example, if the person being subjected to the humiliation does not draw attention to
them self, the villagers will lose interest in the crime; this allows the villagers a healing time. In
Hester s case the people were able to see her in a new light. Such helpfulness was found in her so
much power to do and power to sympathize that many people refused to interpret the scarlet A by
its original signification. They said that it meant Able ; so strong was Hester Prynne, with a woman s

My First Day Of Class
First Day of Class
In the words of Harry Wong, The first day of class is the most important day of the school year .
Since this day is so important I will have had to prepare a few things before the day actually starts.
I will have assigned seats in my classroom before the day starts, and I will have written my bell
work activity for the class before they arrive. Finally, I will have all the materials I need for that day
within reach, so I am prepared for transitions.
Class length 8:40 9:34
Pre class time 8:15 8:40
I will stand outside my classroom looking for my students.
When I see my students I will great them, introduce myself as Mr. Zaruba, their 8th grade science
teacher, and tell them to find their seat and read the board.
Greeting the children at the door starts them off with a comfortable first day, and allows me to set
the expectation of getting to work right away.
Beginning activity 8:40 8:55
Bell work will be listed on the board for them to complete.
The bell work for the first day will be a questionnaire for the students to fill out. The activity will
provide me with crucial information about my students interests and goals.
I will collect the bell work after 7 minutes and begin to go over my expectations in the class.
My expectations will be presented in a fun music themed PowerPoint that will not take me longer
than 8 minutes max.
At the end of the PowerPoint, I will have my students repeat the expectations back to me.

The Rothko Chapel Essay
Mark Rothko is recognized as one of the greatest artists of the twentieth century and during his
lifetime was touted as a leading figure in postwar American painting. He is one of the outstanding
figures of Abstract Expressionism and one of the creators of Color Field Painting. As a result of
his contribution of great talent and the ability to deliver exceptional works on canvas one of his
final projects, the Rothko Chapeloffered to him by Houston philanthropists John and Dominique de

Rothko was well accepted in the New York art community, but experienced limited success
during this time. Needing to add to his income he took a position at the Center Academy
instructing sculpture and painting and maintained this position from 1929 to 1952. As Rothko
advanced in his painting style he began to metamorphose from using imagery and symbolism to
using colour fields. Typically his paintings feature large rectangular expanses of colour arranged
parallel to each other, usually in a vertical arrangement. The edges of these shapes are softly
uneven, giving them a hazy, pulsating quality, and they seem to gently hover or float over the
canvas. The paintings are often very large and the effect they produce is generally one of
calmness and contemplation, but in spite of their tranquility, they cost Rothko enormous
emotional effort: I m not an abstract artist...I m not interested in the relationship of colour or
form or anything else. I m interested only in expressing basic human emotions tragedy, ecstasy,
doom and so on. And the fact that a lot of people break down and cry when confronted with my
pictures show that I can communicate these basic human emotions...The people who weep before
my pictures are having the same religious experience as I had when I painted them ( Chilvers

The Prudhoe Bay Oil Spill and a Commitment to Being Green
Michelle L. Staton
Case Summary The Angelo Persian Oil Company was formed in 1909 by a wealthy Englishman
named William Knox D Arcy. It did not operate under the British Petroleum(BP) name until 1954.
In early 1959, BP discovered hydrocarbons under the North Sea and Alaska, and found the West
Sole gas field in 1965 which was the first oil exploration success in British waters. In 1969, BP
discovered major oil deposits in Prudhoe Bay on the North Slope of Alaska. The refining and
marketing of the Prudhoe Bay oil fields was handled by Standard Oil Company of Ohio, which also

Things were going very well for BP, until March 2006 when crews discovered a small hole in the
pipeline at the Prudhoe Bay oil fields. The company is responsible for the northern Alaskan oil
fields and had no indication there was a leak until it was too late. Between 200,000 and 270,000
gallons of crude oil leaked out of the hole in the pipeline over a five day period, and became the
second worst oil spill in the United States. The worst oil spill was a result of the Exxon Valdez
tanker hitting a barrier reef in Alaska s Prince William Sound in 1989. More than 11 million
gallons of crude oil was accidentally released into the water, and the region is still impacted
environmentally from the spill. The leaking pipeline disaster will have very similar severe
environmental impacts on the region and will definitely taint the company s image of safety and
environmentally friendly operations for many years to come. With the increase in oil exploration
in the region, the quality of oil has significantly declined. The lower quality oil flowing through
the pipeline causes stress on the pipes leading to corrosion and deterioration. Some of the pipeline
is underground and, therefore, making it difficult to detect a leak in those areas. BP has increased
its budget to inspect the pipeline for corrosion, as well as using an additive to breakdown
emulsions in the oil. The pipeline was

Use of Language in Immigration
USE OF LANGUAGE IN IMMIGRATION RHETORIC
1.0 Introduction
American society has developed as a result of continued waves of immigration. It therefore seems
logical that Americans should have positive attitudes towards immigration. Immigration allows for
sharing of ideas and cultures within society. However, in recent years, the trend of undocumented
immigration has taken an effect on the economic and social development of American society.
During the debates in the fun up to the 2013 elections, the democrat and republican candidates are
finding themselves locked over divisive opinions on the issue. This paper discusses the effects of
language in immigration rhetoric on the perception held by people about immigration. Different
words presented to the public in different ways (positive or negative) imply their own meanings.
2.0 Stereotyping and Negative Attitudes about Immigrants
The use of language with reference to this phenomenon has potential for influencing social attitudes
towards immigrants and is therefore being discussed on the media. According to Bennion, the use
of the term alien is the acceptable way to describe foreigners who have entered the United States
without proper documentation. The use of terms like illegal immigrants or undocumented
immigrants is erroneous because it acknowledges their status as immigrants. In addition, the use of
terms such as illegal is also better avoided. Such terms are loaded with negativity and are likely to

ESL Lesson Summary
Introduction
To enable all students to learn and engage with the learning areas in the classroom, teachers
employ a variety of teaching methodologies across all learning areas. Choosing an appropriate
teaching methodology will make the process of teaching English as a second language easier and
more rewarding for the teachers and students, and increase the likelihood of success. In this
research, I will analyses a video clip of an ESL/EFL teacher and class in action for reflection on
and evaluating the mythology to promote language learning.
The video clip chosen for analysis is from lessons included in Harmer (2007) published by
YouTube. It covers adult class (pre intermediate) during the lesson titled Kit teaches students to ask
for and give directions. The class are learning English as a second language (ESL) and there are

Lesson Summary
The clip can be viewed as a sequence of episodes where each episode is a bonded unit which
roughly correlates with a single teaching activity (Gibbons, 2006:95). The class follows the task
based teaching structure found to be common in English as a second language and moves from
listening tasks to a speaking task.
In the first episode (0:03), the teacher writes the topic and what activities they will focus on in his
teaching on the whiteboard. In the second episode (0:53), the teacher requires the students to write

Speech On Speech And The Freedom Of Speech
COMMUNICATION IS a fundamental human requirement and is the underpinning of all human
dealings since it is the mode through which humans exchange information. The free exchange of
ideas and knowledge take place when there is unrestricted full fledged communication. It is
guaranteed through the freedom of speech and expression , the most cherished fundamental right,
as envisaged under various international covenants and most of the constitutions including the
Indian Constitution. The right to freedom of expression has a wide ambit which includes the
freedom to hold opinions, freedom to impart information, the freedom to receive information and
even the freedom to dissent against the democratically elected governments of the day. It is also
related to free thinking, imagination and deliberation which are prerequisites for a human being s
self realisation. Moreover, it is a vital right to form a good democratic government where citizens
are well informed about political happenings. Speech, according to many scholars, serves a self
fulfilment function. This theory explains that satisfaction that arises out of speech is related to the
individual s ability to think, visualise, and generate ideas. Many thinkers placed the right to free
speech and expression at a higher pedestal. To Joseph Raz, communication oral, pictorial, or
musical communication of speech is an essential right involving people to contribute in civic
activities. Professor Edwin C Baker stated that speech

date with the rules and regulations all the time.

Andrew Jacksonian Democracy
Andrew Jackson, the seventh President of the United States, is maybe more applicable today than
the greater part of alternate Presidents of the mid nineteenth century. In the wake of the
challenged race of 2000 and during developing protestations of the squalor of legislative issues,
we may do well to think back to Jackson s filthy and fervently race for the Presidency in 1824, in
which he won the mainstream vote however thusly lost the Presidency after the decision was tossed
into the House of Representatives. As America s political gathering framework created, Jackson
turned into the pioneer of the new Democratic Party. A supporter of states rights and subjugation s
expansion into the new western domains, he restricted the Whig Party and Congress on polarizing
issues, for example, the Bank of the United States. For a few, his inheritance is discolored by his
part in the constrained movement of Native American tribes living east of the Mississippi.... Show

He remained for the privilege of the everyday citizens to have a more noteworthy voice in
government. Unmistakable changes in laws rehearse, and mainstream states of mind offered to
ascend to Jacksonian Democracy and were thusly quickened by the new equalitarian soul. A vague,
questionable idea, Jacksonian Democracy in the strictest sense alludes essentially to the power of
Andrew Jackson and the Democratic party after 1828. Jacksonian democracy rules system was a
nineteenth century political rationality in the United States that embraced more noteworthy vote
based system for the regular man, as that term was then characterized. Starting with President
Andrew Jackson and his supporters, it turned into the country s overwhelming political perspective

Spock Personal Statement
In addition to finding comfortability within the systematic environment of scientific academia, my
analytically predisposed mindset became attracted to one of the most important tenants of any
scientific discipline: the priority of objectiveness. The elimination of any sort of personal biases and
emotional involvement is necessary in maintaining credibility of new scientific theories. I wasn t
necessarily some sort of infant Spock character straight out of the Star Trek series, I simply
happened to develop a capability to deduce the reasoning behind certain actions and events without
exploding in response with emotional reaction. Konrad Lorenz, the ethologist who dubbed the term
filial imprinting after noticing that certain ducklings emulate

Gender Roles And Power Issues
A fresh university graduate looks for a job in the journalism industry. A number one fashion
magazine in New York provides this opportunity as an assistant to the editor. The experience
completely flips her life around, and changes not only her appearances but also starts affecting her
personal relationships. The end of the film sees the character move away from the fashion industry
and into a traditional newspaper agency. The two main characters present in The Devil Wears Prada
are the fashion editor, Miranda Priestly, played by Meryl Streep, and the assistant, Andrea Sachs,
played by Anne Hathaway. There sub characters such as Andrea s boyfriend, Andrea s father, and
Miranda s husband that play key roles in both Andrea s and Miranda s... Show more content on

Gender stereotypes reflect percievers observations of what people do in daily life (Eagly and
Steffan, 1984) and remain if perceivers continue to observe a certain group engaged in specific
activities, which then turn into assumptions that the group is able to perform such tasks. When it
comes to gender roles, Heilman (2001) suggests that there are two roles that either gender can
possess, agentic or communal. Agentic behaviour is usually associated with men, and portrays the
idea of being achievement orientated and taking charge (Solomon, Bamossy, Askegaard, and Hogg,
2013). Additionally, leadership and manager attributes such as, problem solving, risk taking, and
being active are associated with an agentic, masculine figure (Heilman, 2001). Women, on the other
hand, show communal attributes that are associated with care taking, helpful, and relationship
orientated. Sczesny s work (2003) introduced the common assumption that managerial positions are
male dominated, think manager think male , and crisis situations are associated with females
(Haslam Ryan, 2007).
An issue that many women still face in the corporate world is the glass ceiling NEED TO EXPAND
Power and gender are common topics in movies and is especially prevalent in The Devil Wears

How To Play The Clarinet
Today I am going to attempt to teach you to play the clarinet. Many of you are probably
thinking: How hard could it be? It s easy? Right? Well, let me tell you you guys are completely
incorrect. The clarinet a woodwind instrument, there are two main categories of woodwinds.
The first is the basic woodwind which are flutes (there are many different types of flutes, like the
piccolo), and the reed instruments, otherwise called reed pipes. This category includes clarinets
(again there are many types like the b flat and E flat) and Saxophones ( Tenor Sax, Alto Sax and
Bass Sax). Since clarinets are classified as reed instruments, it is obvious that you would need a
reed to play it. Before I go into the steps I should probably tell you what ... Show more content on

First you have the mouthpiece, and on the mouthpiece you will find a metal cylinder this is called
the ligature. The ligature holds the reed on the mouthpiece so that the player can put air through
the mouthpiece, and sound will come out. Next you will find a piece called the barrel. The barrel
of the clarinet connects to the bottom of the mouthpiece. Below the barrel, is a part of the
clarinet called the upper joint. The upper joint, as you may have guesses connects to the barrel.
The next part of the clarinet I will discuss with you is called the lower joint. The lower joint
connects to the upper joint. The last piece you will need to know is called the bell. The bell
connects to the lower joint. Each of the parts of the clarinet are connected by pieces called cork
tenons. Now that you know all the major parts of the clarinet I can began to teach you the basics

Assumptions About Documentaries and an Analysis of The...
Assumption about documentaries being true, educational only, no imagination needed aren t
correct . There are several documentaries we watched in class that show that documentaries don t all
fall under the same assumptions. A common assumption about documentaries is that there is no
imagination needed. In a time when the major media recycle the same stories on the same subjects
over and over, when they risk little in formal innovation, when they remain beholden to powerful
sponsors with their own political agendas and restrictive demands, it is the independent
documentary filmthat has brought a fresh eye to the events of the world and told stories, with verve
and imagination, that broaden limited horizons and awaken new... Show more content on

Even though they are real people we weren t really seeing who they are.
A documentary film is not made up; it shows what really happens in real life; shows things as
they are naturally are. This statement is not completely true. The story a documentary tells stems
from the historical world but it is still told from the filmmaker s perspective and in the
filmmaker s voice. This is a matter of degree, not a black and white division. (Nichols, 12) In
these cases the stories told speak about the actual events directly, not allegorically, and the film
adheres to the known historical facts. Social actors, people, present themselves in fluid, negotiated,
revealing ways. (Nichols,12) According to Nichols documentaries are true events but the
filmmaker shapes what we see into what they want us to see. We are getting the perspective of the
directors. An example of movie watched in class was Nanook of the North, even though the people
were real, some of the scenes seemed staged. The director wants us to see Nanook and his people
behind on technology and still living in the past. There is the scene were one of them is biting a
disc, it seems the director is trying to make us believe these people are way behind and primitive.
Another scene that helps prove that not everything caught on camera happens naturally is when
Nanook sees all the other eskimos going

Controversy Within Racism And Religion
Controversy within Racism and Religion in the 17th Century
Many would wonder why racism and religion rapture like a constant glare of ambiguity. Along
from the 1700 s to now the 20th century, we ask ourselves why does your race and religion
matter still? I would like to think that racism should not even matter based off what is now
happening today. Within the essay I will discuss to the reader about three stories that to me had
many similarities in comparisons; with controversy, racial segregation and biblical context. I will
explain how the text related subject of racial profiling which showed a symbolic idol of (God) in the
form of faith during these early times. I will then speak on the controversy that the narrator tried to
convey the audience to mimic harsh opinions on certain characters. The last I will speak upon how
religion was quoted throughout this paper in the stories.
My argument is why did race play such a prime factor in the 17th and 18th century and continues
to take place in the 20th century still? As I read the stories I will briefly speak about Mary
Rowlandson, Iroquois Creation, and Benito Cereno. All three stories are coming from the
(Norton, Anthology American Literature) Vol A B. The first overview will be on Rowlandson,
next will be Iroquois Creation, followed by Benito Cereno. The story seemed to me right off as
there were some segregation taking place in all three even with many religious beliefs. Within this
essay the reader could get a more

  • 2. Automobile Pollution Essay Automobiles Consuming Fossil Fuels and Pollution in America Why do Americans buy so many products knowing they are causing pollution? That may be because they enjoy shopping. Every product causes some sort of pollution. For instance, automobiles cause a great amount of pollution. The sad part is that the mass production of automobiles has been growing larger every year, ever since the Model T Fords came out. Between 1908 and 1927, Ford produced about 15 million Model T cars, which is on average 790 thousand cars produced every year. Today, the company sells about 2.5 million automobiles annually. In other words, Ford produces over 3 times as many automobiles today. Over production and consumption of automobiles induces the consumption of fossil fuels. Consuming gasoline to run cars was the idea of over a century ago. With the quantity of the production of cars today, it is not efficient to use the same old method to run cars. Water and oxygen are most vital for humans. If we pollute all of the water and air in the world, extinction will be our only option. Americans should eliminate the excessive consumption of automobiles because it leads to overconsumption of fossil fuels, which causes pollution. Three common types of pollution are air pollution, water pollution, and noise pollution. In the past century, cars and trucks have turned from objects of desire into a person s basic needs. After factories, automobiles are the biggest air polluters of America. Air pollution is a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Ichabod Crane Character Analysis Ichabod Crane s adventure related in The Legend of Sleepy Hollow demonstrates where someone s unchecked and undesirable personality traits can lead him. Washington Irving wrote The Legend of Sleepy Hollow in 1820. The story describes how Ichabod Crane persistently frightened himself by supposing he saw and heard supernatural beings. When Crane competed with Brom Bones for a lady s love, Bones took advantage of Ichabod Cranes character flaws scaring him out of town by impersonating the dreaded Headless Horseman. Ichabod Crane s greed, superstition, and fearfulness resulted in his downfall. Ichabod Crane s greed hindered his relationship with the townspeople, making some, such as Brom Bones, pleased to expel Crane from town, and others indifferent to his leaving. Crane had a great gluttonous appetite, so he lived successively a week at a time in his pupils homes because they could not afford to house such a gourmand (Irving 17). Moreover, he earned the distaste of the town s other men while trying to earn the affections of Katrina Van Tassel, whom he hoped to marry because of her wealth. He knew if the marriage occurred, many delicious meals would await him. The pedagogue s mouth watered as he looked upon this sumptuous promise of luxurious winter fare, (Irving 20). Furthermore, Ichabod Crane s greed extended even to a love of power, which he executed over his schoolhouse. For slovenly, naughty, or lazy children, he always had his whip ready. Proudly, he ... Studies have been undertaken on the evaluation of xylitol and sorbitol effect on morphological and physicochemical parameters of the produced tablets and on pharmaceutical availability of sodium ibuprofen. 2. Two kinds of tablets containing 50 mg of sodium ibuprofen were developed. Sorbitol was the basic formulating component of batch A tablets and xylitol of batch B tablets. Quality tests of the produced forms of a drug (PP IX) were performed and the tests of therapeutic agent pharmaceutical availability by pharmacopeal paddle method and by a method with a teat. 3. The tablets of both batches had smooth surface and the same shape. The content of the therapeutic agent was within the limit 95 105% of the declared value. No essential differences were demonstrated in the profile of sodium ibuprofen release from the tablets of both batches in the paddle test. However, the observed significant decrease of the hardness of batch B tablets contributed to the expected rapid sodium ibuprofen release from tablets tested by the method with a teat. 4. The batch A and B teat tablets with sodium ibuprofen demonstrated the expected physicochemical parameters and high pharmaceutical availability in the spatula test. Batch A tablets with xylitol showed more beneficial applicative parameters and a high value of Q coefficient was obtained for them in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Street Gangs And Its Effects On The Minds Of Today s Youth Street gangs have played a major role in the minds of today s youth. For some youth, joining a gang is considered to be a rite of passage. Most youth join gangs to have a sense of brotherhood and sisterhood, to be accepted, to feel protected, and to feel like they belong (Violent Prevent Institute, 2016). In most cases, they look up to the older men or women in gangs for guidance not realizing that in most cases, the older people who are in the gangjoined for the same reasons (Violent Prevent Institute, 2016). In most city neighborhoods, joining a gang is the urban equivalent of joining the Cub Scouts or a Brownie troop in the suburbs. For a lot of the older gang members, it is a matter of simple economics. They often cannot find legal work and certainly nothing that pays nearly as well as selling drugs and committing crimes (Violent Prevent Institute, 2016). Youth want to have the same flashy lifestyle that provides them with expensive clothing, drugs, sex, and respect (Violent Prevent Institute, 2016). Gang violence is something that affects us all in many ways. A lot of people are terrified of gang violence. With every wrong decision, there could be major consequences following it. In the United States, there is estimated to be over 1.5 million people in gangs and roughly 35,000 different gangs operating. The kids from there are always so annoying, and I m forced to put up with them for a whole week. When we got to the camp, it was about 5:30. The group leaders assigned our cabins, which consisted of four bunk beds, two dressers, and a small couch. After that, we all went on a hike and came back for dinner. • 8. The Physics Of The Atomic Theory In chemistry, it has been stated that atoms are the basic building blocks of ordinary matter that contain protons, neutrons, electrons, and can join to form molecules. (Gagnon) Atoms are really tiny and are considered the source of nuclear energy in all kinds of matter. The atomic theory became a very important piece in chemistry because it explained the atomic structure and how it worked. Important scientists that helped contribute to this theory were people like John Dalton and J.J. Thompson which helped establish a foundation to the theory, as well as create experiments that helped provide evidence of their findings. John Dalton was an important scientist that established the atomic theory. His theory was as follows: 1.All matter is made of atoms. Atoms are invisible and indestructible. 2. All atoms of given elements are identical in mass and properties. 3. Compounds are formed by a combination of 2 or more different kinds of atoms. 4. A chemical reaction is a rearrangement of atoms. 5. Atoms cannot be created or destroyed. (Leon) Dalton brought up this information while using his gas experiments and it helped him determine the properties of atoms. Although Democritus had somewhat already had a theory on matter, Dalton explored and expanded the theory into what it is today. Dalton was inspired and borrowed the term atomos or atoms from Democritus to label his particles. (Leon) Dalton also created the first chart of atomic weights and introduced his belief that atoms ... • 9. Instructional Setting And Content Area Essay Instructional Setting and Content Area The instructional setting for this unit is an elementary school. All lessons will be taught to a fourth grade glass, consisting of 24 students. The lessons will take place during the assigned math block (an 80 minute portion of the day). These lessons will be a scaffolded focus on problem solving, specifically multiplication and division word problems. Instructional Problem The vast majority of incoming and current 4th grade students in this school haven t yet mastered the state standard for problem solving (Standard 4.OA.A.3). Specific standards are set by the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) and adopted by Washington State (Common Core State Standards Initiative, (n.d.)), and require students to be able to solve multi step word problems in all four operations. Incoming fourth grade students struggle with solving these word problems accurately. These students need to pass the state mandated Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBA) which requires completion of a problem solving performance task. Their score on this assessment will determine their placement in grade 5 at the district s middle school. Students have difficulty with word problems mostly based on lack of strategies and poor language interpretation. While fact fluency may be present, the ability to interpret vocabulary to guide computation leaves many students unable to construct mathematical models to interpret or solve problems. He was born February 5, 1788 in Chamber Hall near Bury in Lancashire (Bloy, n.d.). He was the one who greatly influenced and set forth the fundamental principles of the police force. He developed an organized force called the London Metropolitan Police in 1829 that protected the people who were victimized due to high unemployment, poverty, and crime. An organization is an artificial structure created to coordinate either people or groups and resources to achieve a mission or goal (Bennett Hess, 2007). The police s goal is to protect and serve their community. Although the term of a police officer is mixed up with a peace officer all police officers are peace officers, but all peace officers are not police officers (Walker Katz, 2011). The principles that Sir Robert Peel set for the police include: Police must be stable, efficient, and organized militarily (Bennett Hess, 2007). Police must be under governmental control (Bennett Hess, 2007). The deployment of police strength ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Authors Chavez et al., outline the undocumented immigrant student experience, and how white meritocracy is merely a pipe dream for those students. (2007) As young children, undocumented students, sometimes not aware of their status, are told that if they work hard throughout their entire elementary/high school career, that work will be paid off with acceptance into a university, or a good job. Central reform strategies are known to work against race equity, but are nevertheless promoted as best practice for all. These reforms are known to discriminate in practice regardless of intent, and are therefore racist in their consequences. The attempted assimilation of a regionally nomadic people whose entire society spiritually and culturally is based upon ties to nature leads to an eventual violent reaction by a portion of the tribe, through propagation of fear and political pressure the entire band is taken into custody with prisoner of war status. Eventually this status will define and even give way to the only federally created tribe, a unique distinction created through a federal over reach of power that can be considered genocidal in nature. Also, it was a liberal word that was used to describe African Americans and Mark Twainwas just using this word as to portray how the Southerners talked and wanted to maintain the reality of the book. Readers who read Huck Finn may find it hard to read due to the fact that Mark Twain uses the language of his time period as the language in the book and that involved using profanity and not showing lots of respect towards either the white Southerners or the black Southerners, that is why most people reading this will not be able to handle either the profanity or the reality of how people we treated in the South during the early 1800 s. A second thing that most people who read or have read this would probably think that this is a controversial book, but in fact it s actually a classic, with real life events or situations. Blizzards, on stage 1, can cause a slowing or complete stop of towers and enemies found on the stage as mobility can be locked down or limited to prevent damage to central machinery. Lightning storms, on stage 2 and 4, can cause short term damage to what is hit, and possibly power fluctuations in mechanical foes and towers causing a stall in the unit /tower s work. People didn t want to give up the opportunity for a decent life for themselves and their children, if they didn t do something, they weren t going to get it back. • 19. The Ideological Concept Of Insanity Defense The ideological concept of an insanity defense, formerly termed complete madness, was originally incorporated into the English common law jurisprudence system in the late thirteenth century of the United Kingdom as an affirmative defense for defendants under the yoke of criminal charges involving a heinous action which could involve the option of termination of a defendant s life if adjudge guilty of such act (Hill). Through such incorporation of a legal defense, the institution of a new societal grouping known commonly as the criminally insane became expounded, as well as, the legal opportunity allowing for self declaration of being innocent by reason of mental illness or defect (or, the insanity defense). Those criminally insane are a subset of the prison population who have been deemed to have committed their crimes under the influence of a mental disease/disorder, or who were not in a condition of intellect during the time of the crime to comprehend the illegality or immorality of their offense (Frontline). Only if the defendant has plead insanity before the court can they be considered a truly criminally insane inmate. [1] Enteral refers to any form of administration that involves the alimentary tract. The four enteral routes of administration include the mouth, sublingual, buccal and rectal. Parenteral refers to routes of administration outside of or beside of the alimentary tract. The parenteral route includes intravascular (IV), Intramuscular (IM) and subcutaneous (SC) routes of administration. The arterioles divide to form a capillary plexus surrounding the nephric lumen in the proximal tubule. The occurrence of secretions mainly occurs in the proximal tubule. This happens by active transport, one for anions and one for cations. Active transport requires energy. The two systems have low specificity and can transport many compounds. The drug may diffuse back into the circulation if it is uncharged. In attempt to minimize the diffusing back into circulation, the pH of the urine may be manipulated to increase the ionised from of the drug. [2] Below is a diagram to show renal elimination. • 22. Patriarchy in Jane Austen s Sense and Sensibility Essay Patriarchy in Jane Austen s Sense and Sensibility Despite the fact that Jane Austen has become what Julian North describes as a conservative icon in popular culture signified by her depictions of traditional class and gender hierarchies, sexual propriety and Christian values, the novel _Sense and Sensibility_ provides, if not a feminist perspective, a feminist discourse lacking in Emma Thompson s film version (North 38). In this essay, I attempt to argue briefly that the novel, which initially seems to uphold cultural norms of sexuality and does little to question women s subaltern position, can be read to undermine the patriarchy and especially male controlled courtship rituals. Next I seek to demonstrate how the film s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Julian North, noting that critics have often read Elinor s triumphant sense as validating an anti individualist reactionary viewpoint in which the self must submit to the moral and religious order of society, offers a contrasting opinion (39). Other critics read adherence to conservative ideology as a cover story ...for the implicitly rebellious vision ...of a writer acutely conscious of the confinements of patriarchy (North 39). This feminist reading of _Sense_ is most cogent when the reader is privileged to Elinor s own thoughts. Elinor s sense, manifested in her stoic silence and inner thoughts, contrasts with Marianne s sensibility, notably with her emotive soliloquies and dialogues, to offer a verbal resistance to their mutual misfortune. The discourse between sense and sensibility in the book offers a means to combat the misfortune the women in the novel suffer, and each temperament leads its possessor to ultimate happiness, even if sense is clearly favored. Similarly, the sisterly bond of the Dashwoods offers an alternative narrative to the traditional courtship romance. Deborah Kaplan acknowledges that several critics that the friendships of the women characters with one another are at least as important as their relationships with male characters and that these relationships sometimes seem[] to overshadow Sense and Sensibility s courtship plot (184). • 23. Features Of A Network Topology Essay 2.1 Topology: Actually here we are discussing about a network topology. A topology is the physical configuration of a network that determines how the network s computers are connected. The way in which constituent parts are arranged. The physical topology of a network is the actual geometric layout of workstations. There are several common physical topologies based on the configuration. They are Star Topology, Ring Topology, Buss Topology, Mesh Topology, Hybrid Topology and Tree Topology. 2.2 Star Topology: Star topology is one of the most common network setups. In this arrangement, every node connects to a central hub, switch or computer; the hub acting as a server and the peripheral devices as clients. A major disadvantage of this network topologyis that if the central hub fails, all of the connected devices are disconnected. In a star network layout, each workstation is connected by its own cable directly to the server. Star networks are usually the layout of choice in schools and offices because they tend to be the most reliable of the topologies. The visual example shows how this setup gets its name as it is shaped very much like a star. FIGURE 2.1: Star Topology Advantages: Star networks are very reliable. If one connection fails, it does not affect other users Very few data collisions as each workstation has its own cable to the server Good security no workstation can interact with another without going through the server first Easy to install ... The meaning of the letter appears clear at first but as the book progresses you see the letter s meaning shift with Hester s character. The magistrates intended the letter to represent the sin of adultery. And while of course, people did shun her at the very beginning, the shaming technique could not weather the test of time. The A soon began to lose its shameful meaning and instead become a symbolic example of Hester s courage and show that public shaming cannot compete with one s own means of self torture. To begin, the scarlet letterhad lost its meaning over the course of time. Then, also, the blameless purity of her life during all these years in which she had been set apart to infamy was reckoned largely in her favor. (Chapter XIII) The author s purpose is to call attention to the Puritan s weak shaming system. For example, if the person being subjected to the humiliation does not draw attention to them self, the villagers will lose interest in the crime; this allows the villagers a healing time. In Hester s case the people were able to see her in a new light. Such helpfulness was found in her so much power to do and power to sympathize that many people refused to interpret the scarlet A by its original signification. Typically his paintings feature large rectangular expanses of colour arranged parallel to each other, usually in a vertical arrangement. The edges of these shapes are softly uneven, giving them a hazy, pulsating quality, and they seem to gently hover or float over the canvas. Between 200,000 and 270,000 gallons of crude oil leaked out of the hole in the pipeline over a five day period, and became the second worst oil spill in the United States. The worst oil spill was a result of the Exxon Valdez tanker hitting a barrier reef in Alaska s Prince William Sound in 1989. More than 11 million gallons of crude oil was accidentally released into the water, and the region is still impacted environmentally from the spill. The leaking pipeline disaster will have very similar severe environmental impacts on the region and will definitely taint the company s image of safety and environmentally friendly operations for many years to come. With the increase in oil exploration in the region, the quality of oil has significantly declined. The lower quality oil flowing through the pipeline causes stress on the pipes leading to corrosion and deterioration. Some of the pipeline is underground and, therefore, making it difficult to detect a leak in those areas. • 44. Andrew Jacksonian Democracy Andrew Jackson, the seventh President of the United States, is maybe more applicable today than the greater part of alternate Presidents of the mid nineteenth century. In the wake of the challenged race of 2000 and during developing protestations of the squalor of legislative issues, we may do well to think back to Jackson s filthy and fervently race for the Presidency in 1824, in which he won the mainstream vote however thusly lost the Presidency after the decision was tossed into the House of Representatives. As America s political gathering framework created, Jackson turned into the pioneer of the new Democratic Party. A supporter of states rights and subjugation s expansion into the new western domains, he restricted the Whig Party and Congress on polarizing issues, for example, the Bank of the United States. Spock Personal Statement In addition to finding comfortability within the systematic environment of scientific academia, my analytically predisposed mindset became attracted to one of the most important tenants of any scientific discipline: the priority of objectiveness. The elimination of any sort of personal biases and emotional involvement is necessary in maintaining credibility of new scientific theories. I wasn t necessarily some sort of infant Spock character straight out of the Star Trek series, I simply happened to develop a capability to deduce the reasoning behind certain actions and events without exploding in response with emotional reaction. A number one fashion magazine in New York provides this opportunity as an assistant to the editor. The experience completely flips her life around, and changes not only her appearances but also starts affecting her personal relationships. The end of the film sees the character move away from the fashion industry and into a traditional newspaper agency. The two main characters present in The Devil Wears Prada are the fashion editor, Miranda Priestly, played by Meryl Streep, and the assistant, Andrea Sachs, played by Anne Hathaway. Gender stereotypes reflect percievers observations of what people do in daily life (Eagly and Steffan, 1984) and remain if perceivers continue to observe a certain group engaged in specific activities, which then turn into assumptions that the group is able to perform such tasks. When it comes to gender roles, Heilman (2001) suggests that there are two roles that either gender can possess, agentic or communal. Agentic behaviour is usually associated with men, and portrays the idea of being achievement orientated and taking charge (Solomon, Bamossy, Askegaard, and Hogg, 2013). Additionally, leadership and manager attributes such as, problem solving, risk taking, and being active are associated with an agentic, masculine figure (Heilman, 2001). Women, on the other hand, show communal attributes that are associated with care taking, helpful, and relationship orientated. Sczesny s work (2003) introduced the common assumption that managerial positions are male dominated, think manager think male , and crisis situations are associated with females (Haslam Ryan, 2007). An issue that many women still face in the corporate world is the glass ceiling NEED TO EXPAND Power and gender are common topics in movies and is especially prevalent in The Devil Wears Prada (Lee, 2006). The first is the basic woodwind which are flutes (there are many different types of flutes, like the piccolo), and the reed instruments, otherwise called reed pipes. This category includes clarinets (again there are many types like the b flat and E flat) and Saxophones ( Tenor Sax, Alto Sax and Bass Sax). • 48. Assumptions About Documentaries and an Analysis of The... Assumption about documentaries being true, educational only, no imagination needed aren t correct . There are several documentaries we watched in class that show that documentaries don t all fall under the same assumptions. A common assumption about documentaries is that there is no imagination needed. In a time when the major media recycle the same stories on the same subjects over and over, when they risk little in formal innovation, when they remain beholden to powerful sponsors with their own political agendas and restrictive demands, it is the independent documentary filmthat has brought a fresh eye to the events of the world and told stories, with verve and imagination, that broaden limited horizons and awaken new... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even though they are real people we weren t really seeing who they are. A documentary film is not made up; it shows what really happens in real life; shows things as they are naturally are. This statement is not completely true. The story a documentary tells stems from the historical world but it is still told from the filmmaker s perspective and in the filmmaker s voice. This is a matter of degree, not a black and white division. (Nichols, 12) In these cases the stories told speak about the actual events directly, not allegorically, and the film adheres to the known historical facts. Social actors, people, present themselves in fluid, negotiated, revealing ways. (Nichols,12) According to Nichols documentaries are true events but the filmmaker shapes what we see into what they want us to see. We are getting the perspective of the directors. An example of movie watched in class was Nanook of the North, even though the people were real, some of the scenes seemed staged. The director wants us to see Nanook and his people behind on technology and still living in the past. There is the scene were one of them is biting a disc, it seems the director is trying to make us believe these people are way behind and primitive. Another scene that helps prove that not everything caught on camera happens naturally is when Nanook sees all the other eskimos going ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. Controversy Within Racism And Religion Controversy within Racism and Religion in the 17th Century Many would wonder why racism and religion rapture like a constant glare of ambiguity. Along from the 1700 s to now the 20th century, we ask ourselves why does your race and religion matter still? I would like to think that racism should not even matter based off what is now happening today. Within the essay I will discuss to the reader about three stories that to me had many similarities in comparisons; with controversy, racial segregation and biblical context. I will explain how the text related subject of racial profiling which showed a symbolic idol of (God) in the form of faith during these early times. I will then speak on the controversy that the narrator tried to convey the audience to mimic harsh opinions on certain characters. The last I will speak upon how religion was quoted throughout this paper in the stories. My argument is why did race play such a prime factor in the 17th and 18th century and continues to take place in the 20th century still? As I read the stories I will briefly speak about Mary Rowlandson, Iroquois Creation, and Benito Cereno. All three stories are coming from the (Norton, Anthology American Literature) Vol A B. The first overview will be on Rowlandson, next will be Iroquois Creation, followed by Benito Cereno. The story seemed to me right off as there were some segregation taking place in all three even with many religious beliefs. Within this essay the reader could get a more ...
