Princess Blobfish Short Story
In the middle of Nowhere (Nowhere is the neighboring town to Shroom Land,) Lightning struck
Nowhere town and sent it into burning hot flames. All but one fled town and he placed a chest on a
pedestal in the middle of the flames and he was engulfed in flames, and all thought he was dead. No
one dared to head back to the town.
On a sunny but cold day, Princess Blobfish marked another day off the golden calendar. She was a
kind, sweet girl who knew when not to argue. Two more days til my B day. she squealed excitedly.
Clop clop clop. The princess looked out of her window and saw a white horse running wild, and
watched the skinny villager riding it tug at the horse s reins. Yet another day in her kingdom. She
began to make her way to the dining hall when a familiar voice beckoned Princess, your father needs
you. The butler said. Again? the princess questioned and started to walk to the king s chair. Yes father?
A loud voice boomed and she flinched Stay in your room until the sun goes down. The king called.
The princess knew not to argue and went to her room where she spent most of her time.
A minute later, the king left his chair and hopped on a horse in the courtyard. He was feisty and
demanding, fat, and VERY curious. Let s be off. the king said. He left the large kingdom headed to all
the shops to find a present for his daughter, but no shops had any goods. He was angry and told
everyone to restock immediately. And with that, he headed off to the kingdom

The Negative Effects Of European Colonialism In Africa
Why is Africa so much less developed than the other countries all around the world? It has been
scientifically proven that all ethnic groups all over the world have similar physical abilities. European
colonialism stopped Africa from developing into a strong and mighty continent. In the 18th and 19th
century, the massive colonisation of Africa by the European forces began. Europeans were looking for
a new trade route because they wanted to avoid paying expensive taxes while trading with the East
(Causes of the Scramble for Africa, African History). The European Colonialism in Africa had a
negative effect, and it has been proven by several reasons. One, resources and money from Africa was
taken to Europe by the European colonists. Two, Africans ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The European Colonialism in Africa had a critical effect on the number of ethnic groups and tribes (
The Scramble of Africa ). In the 1800 s, Africa had over 7400 tribes (Tribal Groups of Africa). The
number of tribes today in Africa is only about 3000 ( African Tribe List ). This proves that the
European Colonialism in Africa had a huge impact on the number of tribes. The loss of tribes caused
the native Africans to lose their traditions and cultures, such as their own language and belief. Also,
European colonialism in Africa brought Christianity to Africa. The Africans were forced to forget their
traditional religion they ve been following for a long time. The Europeans forced the Africans into
believing in Christianity (Jennifer Mueller). These weren t the only factors how the European
colonists took away the Africans culture and traditions. Having a national language as a nation is one
of the most critical factor of keeping their own culture. However, some of the native Africans were
also forced to stop using their national languages. The loss of national languages caused lots of
different parts of Africa to lose their own tradition. European colonialism in Africa was negative not
only because of the loss of culture and tradition, but also the lack of freedom granted to the native

Texas Constitution Vs. U.s. Constitution
Texas is considered a very diverse and unique state in many different aspects. It is the second largest
state with more than twenty six million people residing. People all over the state live in a variety of
environments, cities, suburbs, rural areas, you name it. Of course though, like in everything else, there
are always both positive and negative things. However, despite the fact that Texas have very high
poverty rates and it has the second highest income inequality, Texas is a very interesting state and it
has a lot of things that are worth learning about. I learned some things about Texas politics that I
thought were very interesting. These topics include the State Constitution and the legislature. The
Texas Constitution and the U.S. Constitution is very similar to each other in terms of structure. Both
documents provide framework, and the amendments come from the will of the people. The Texas
Constitution was written to govern the the individual state alone so it should be more specific and less
flexible to change. On the other hand, the U.S Constitution is more flexible than the Texas
Constitution because of the fact that it was designed to be governing a total of fifty states with each
individual states differing from others in values, beliefs, attitudes, behaviors, and the states consist of
individuals who have similar values. Today, we are still operating under the 1876 Constitution with
four hundred ninety one amendments, which includes a preamble and seventeen

Sociology Chapter Summary
In chapter 7 of our text, Sociology, A Brief Introduction by Richard Schaefer, social control is
discussed. According to the text, Social control is defined as techniques and strategies for preventing
deviant human behavior in any society (Schaefer, 159). An example used in the text to explain this
concept was informal norms such as dress codes introduced by peer groups in order to, govern the
behavior of their members (Schaefer, 159). Within society, a term that is commonly known as
deviance stems from social control. Deviance is exhibiting behavior that violates the standards of
conduct or expectations of a group or society (Schaefer. 165). Deviant behavior goes against the social
norms of society. One current event that has brought

Grand Theft Auto Debate
A. Can you imagine a situation where an entertainment industry designed or created a video game
where you were allowed to kill any police officers by set them on fire, massacre them using rifles and
chainsaws? Do you think that anyone wanted to buy that kind of games? The answer is yes and they
already did.
1. Did you know the worldwide sale of a violent game named Grand Theft Auto has sold nearly $2.3
billion? According to a CBS news article with a title Can a Video Game Relate to Murder , Grand
Theft Auto (GTA) is a video game where the players can live in a world administered by the laws of
depravity. If there re people you don t like? Kill them. If you see a car that you like, steal it (Leung).

So, for me, banning the sale of violent video games to minors is one of the best prevention methods to
put an end to this problem.
1. This legislation is to strengthen the present industry controlled rating system and to ban the sale or
rental any video games that are excessively violent that consist killing, hurting, dissecting or sexually
assaulting an image of a human being to those who were under 18 (Mears).
2. Retailers who violate this law will be fine and it also requires the game maker to put an 18 label on
greatly violent video games (Mears).
3. This legislation is really beneficial to our society as it can prevent youths in our community to get
engaged in any violent acts caused by video games influence. Restriction may not be a good solution
as there are some parents that do not care what their children do; they just allow their children to do
whatever they want. But, with government involvement, it was harder for the minors to get access to
the violent video games. Now, you all can see that banning of the sale of violent video games to
minors is the best way that we can do, as there are no other efficient ways to put an end to this
problem. What happen if we do not support this legislation?

However, as time moves on and the play progresses we see Raleigh develops in maturity. We see this
when Raleigh and Osborne are having their last drink before the raid; I wonder what the Boche are
doing over there now?........I don t know. D you like Coffee...? the author shows here that Raleigh is
keen to know as much as possible about the raid whilst Osborne is trying to put it off for as long as
possible as he is worried about the millions of bullets . We, as an audience, see Raleigh become deeply
affected by the war, succeeding the raid, (when he had left Osborne dead, in no man s land). His
appearance is more rugged and dismal in comparison to his previous shining uniform this could be a
reflection of his emotions as well as just war worn; this would be seen as a landmark in Raleigh s life
in the trenches. The audience is taken through Raleigh s experience of war and his relationship with
his fellow men and officers. He became a steadfast part of the story with which the audience could
relate and he formed a connection between the characters and action taking place. It is therefore a loss
when he dies that is felt by everyone absorbed in the play. His and the play s final scene portrays a
young man alone in a dark place, with a solitary candle burning for company but

Predictable Crises of Adulthood by Gail Sheehy
The Trying Twenties
In the text, Gail Sheehy describes the difficulties, as well as freedom, which twenty somethings are
presented with when they enter the adult world. The twenties is the period when one is eager to find
his own way of life. Some choose to go to graduate school, some get married early and try out
different jobs to see which suits them best, and some stay single and put their career first. Two
impulses are at work during this period. One is to be set as early as possible; the other is to keep
experimenting. A balance struck between the two determines what one s twenties will be like. People
in their twenties have many illusions which fill them with enthusiasm in every effort they make.
Illusions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Singlehood can be a life structure of the twenties, too. The daughter of an ego boosting father, taught
to try anything she wished so long as she didn t bail out before reaching the top, decided to become a
traveling publicist. That meant being free to move from city to city as better jobs opened up. The
structure that best served her purpose was to remain unattached. She shared apartments and lived in
women s hotels, having a wonderful time, until at 27 she landed the executive job of her dreams. I had
no feeling of rootlessness because each time I moved, the next job offered a higher status or salary.
And in every city I traveled, I would look up old friends from college and meet them for dinner. That
gave me a stabilizing influence. At 30 Shazam! The same woman was suddenly married and pregnant
with twins. Surrounded by a totally new and unforeseen life structure, she was pleasantly baffled to
find herself content. I guess I was ready for a family without knowing it. The Trying Twenties is one
of the longer and more stable periods, stable, that is, in comparison with the rockier passages that lead
to and exit from it. Although each nail driven into our first external life structure is tentative, a tryout,
once we have made our commitments we are convinced they are the right ones. The momentum of
exploring within the structure generally carries us through the twenties without

Examples Of Simile In God Of Small Things
In the God of Small Things , Sophie Mol is displayed in the book as a beautiful girl for she is not only
from England, but a mixed white Indian. Estha and Rahel, her cousins close in age, are unfortunately
seen as both exiles and beastly for they are twins of their divorced mother, Ammu. The differences of
approval is completely evident in the way that their aunt, Baby Kochamma , pressures both Estha and
Rahel into recitations of prayer and English songs to please Sophie Mol (Roy, 83) . With the artistic
style of the passage on page 33, Roy uses simile, word choice, and imagery to demonstrate Estha and
Rahel s forced acceptance of their family s ugly obsession with Sophie Mol that in turns changes their
lives forever. Roy s usage of simile is extremely powerful to explain how ... Show more content on

As explained in the previous paragraph, Roy uses imagery such as burned houses and singed
photographs to explain how their lives would become like hell. To dive deeper into the word choice,
Roy not only uses hell like adjectives, but uses fragments to get her points across. In the first
paragraph of this passage, it is evident that Roy uses fragments with only one worded or two worded
sentences. She excludes the words preserved and accounted for, to bring more meaning to how their
lives had changed. That the hell in which they were to live in would become preserved, and would be
accounted for, because Estha and Rahel s family would make sure of it. In the second paragraph, Roy
uses the sentence fragment, Little events, ordinary things, smashed and reconstituted (Roy, 33). Roy
specifically grouped these words together to indicated that the small things would amount to such
huger problems in the end. That those small events would become a different story in the end as well.
That they would foreshadow the life that Rahel and Estha were destined to have because they had

Conflict In Jane Eyre
Jane Eyre is the story of a young drumroll please the heroine. (shockingly, she s named Jane Eyre),
who lives with her aunt and cousins, the Reeds, at Gateshead Hall. She s an orphan in nineteenth
century England so, like everyone in that category, she s got a hard knock life. When she graduates
from the orphanage she gets a job as a governess and ends up falling in love with her hot boss and
they re all set to get married when now s the real drumroll he s already married. Jane situation is more
conflicted than Rochester s: because as a woman she is also a member of a colonized group, but as a
specifically British woman, she is a colonizer, She is the protagonist and narrator of the novel, Jane is
an intelligent, honest, plain featured young girl forced to contend with oppression, inequality, and
hardship. Although she meets with a series of people who threaten her autonomy, she repeatedly
succeeds at asserting herself and maintains her principles of justice, human dignity, and morality. She
also values intellectual and emotional fulfillment. Jane strong belief was in gender and social equality
challenges the Victorian prejudices against women and the poor.
The most important thing that the aspects of Jane Eyre that would be susceptible to a post colonial
approach are its connection with the West Indies, with the island of Madeira and with India. There are
many aspects in Jane Eyre work that is susceptible to the post colonial approach. Bronte s novel deals

Hybrid Body On Frame Sport Utility Vehicles
The second generation Armada has sailed into port.
Few manufacturers build full size, traditional body on frame sport utility vehicles these days. Count
Nissan among the few.
Among mainstream brands, the Nissan Armada, Toyota Sequoia, GMC Yukon, Chevrolet Tahoe, and
the Ford Expedition are your choices. Of the five, the Armada is the newest name, but for several
years it was the oldest moniker in terms of product age.
That s all changed now as the 2017 Nissan Armada is out, the second generation of this big eight
passenger SUV.

All New Endurance Engine
The all new Armada shares the same 5.6 liter, V8 gasoline engine found in the Titan and Titan XD.
Known as Endurance, the engine is the same size as the previous V8, but otherwise it, too, is new.
Nissan says the beefy V8 is outfitted with variable valve event lift (VVEL) technology for improved
response and performance. Further, Nissan enhanced throttle response by controlling the intake valve
and also employs direct injection gas technology.
Where the previous engine created 317 horsepower and 385 pound feet of torque, the latest engine
makes 390 horsepower and 401 pound feet of torque. Nissan rounds out the powertrain with a seven
speed automatic transmission.
Powerful, Expressive Exterior
Without getting lost in the details, Nissan combined elements from its other vehicles to develop the
new Armada s exterior. To begin, the grille offers a familiar look, one advanced by the popular
Pathfinder crossover. While the headlamp assembly is similar to the Titan s, it offers its own look. The
lower grille or air intake is unique, coming in wider and longer than the pickup truck line.
The truck s frontal presentation is muscular, with a sculpted hood not unlike the Titan s. So, what you
have here is a combination of existing and new Nissan elements to establish the Armada s face.
Front to back this SUV is burly. Nissan went easy on

Exempt Employees
There are three main factors that Amy should use to determine whether Jane and her fellow shift
workers are exempt or non exempt. The first element is the salary criteria for the employees (Vogel et
al., 2007). All the states in the United States are covered under the FLSA guidelines and should
compensate the employees accordingly to avoid any possible disputes arising from employee suing the
business for mistreatment. The Non exempt personnel must be rewarded for the hours they work
overtime; the normal working hours for these employees are forty hours in a week. The exempt
employees, on the other hand, are not eligible for payments of any overtime unless they have an
individual agreement with the company. If an employee is salaried by the company does not mean that
they are exempted. The personnel in the organizations under the FLSA except some cases defined by
the law such as the lawyers and doctors have to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The salary criteria for the exempt employees include must obtain a prearranged amount of pay for a
period agreed; the payments should be salaried in such a manner that every payment the employee
receives a similar amount. They are not paid on hourly basis, it does not matter how many hours an
exempt employee works in the organization, and the payment at the end of the salaried period should
be the same (Locke, 2009). Most of the exempt employees in busy organizations work extra hours to
make sure that the organizational deliverables are met. Their payments are not subject to any
variations despite the organizational conditions. No matter the increase in profits by the company or
increase in job requirement, the employee s salary is at a constant according to their recruitment
agreement with the human business resources. Their salaries change only after the agreed increment
from the organization at the necessary time span of the employment as per the organization s

Natural Sugar Vs. Artificial Sweeteners
Natural Sugar vs. Artificial Sweeteners by Kimberly Reynolds
The debate between naturally derived sugars and low calorie artificial sweeteners has been going on
for years now. As our population s obesity rate grows every year and health concerns related to weight
control grows along with it, natural sugar is scrutinized and we are told to keep away from it as it is
our enemy. Over the last couple of decades, we have been introduced to more and more varieties of
artificial sweeteners promising to deliver the same sweetness or even more sweetness than natural
sugar (some offer as much as 200 times more sweetness than sugar) but with a much lower calorie
content, or some even no calories at all. Artificial sweeteners such as Splenda, Sweet n Low,
NutraSweet, and Equal have become popular as better alternatives to table sugar, promising to help
battle weight gain and actually assist in losing weight. However, does this make it the healthier
option? As with all things, both natural sugar and artificial sugar have their pros and cons, but in order
to find the best option in regards to our health and futures, it s important to weigh them according to
scientific findings and research.
As we hear of more studies exclaiming alarming findings of negative health concerns related to
obesity and our continuously growing percentage of obesity in our country, particularly childhood
obesity, sugar is in the spotlight. We often hear of dieticians and weight loss experts warning us that

Slams on Her Brakes.
Summary:
It seemed like an ordinary day for one Ohio mother. She was just trying to run some errands with her
two children. In just a few minutes, one fun outing ended up completely changing.
Introduction:
As Tina White was leaving Walmart, she carefully put her children and groceries into the car. She had
no clue that her afternoon outing was about to take a terrifying turn. She had just put her children into
the truck and was preparing to go when she saw something alarming. Slamming on the brakes, Tina

Tina followed the man s car and told the dispatcher exactly what was going on. She relayed the license
plate number and the type of car. In fear, she begged the dispatcher to get the police there.
Luckily, help was on the way. The kidnapped mother was also able to dial 911 while her phone was in
her pocket. She could not talk to the dispatcher, but the dispatcher could hear the kidnapper. The
kidnapper was talking about a Western Union check and demanded that the mother give him her
casino money.
Throughout the whole experience, Tina never stopped following the car or talking to 911. Even when
the police arrived, she stayed to watch the man get arrested.

It turns out that the kidnapper, Kenneth McDonald, abducted the mother and child in North Carolina.
He saw them on the television interview about the casino jackpot. After the police arrested him, they

Luckily, the victims were not harmed. After the terrifying event, they decided to share some of the
casino s money with Tina. It was the only way they could think of showing their gratitude to her for

Gral. Omar Nelson Bradley vs. Gral. George S.Patton Essay
General George S. Patton was a great man, and accomplished many great things in his career as a
military officer. He was hard nosed and didn t stand for coward ness. For these reasons he made a
great General. He would not let his troops quit, and he never quit himself, and for that he got much
admiration. Patton was an undeniable motivator; his speeches got to the heart of the issue and could
motivate even the weakest men to engage in battle. General Omar Nelson Bradley was a different kind
of man. He is regarded as the soldier s general. He showed care and compassion to his men, even
those who were too scared to fight. Bradley like Patton were both highly regarded generals and did

Patton says I don t want to get any messages saying, I am holding my position. We are not holding a
goddamned thing. Let the Germans do that. We are advancing constantly and we are not interested in
holding onto anything, except the enemy s balls (Patton). The men were to advance at all times and to
kill as many enemy soldiers as possible. The way that Patton delivered this speech would make even
the softest recruit fresh from boot camp ready to tear an enemies head off without a second thought.
As the movie went on General Patton showed both his caring side and his meaner side. Patton was a
devoted soldier and loved what he did, and the only thing that made him anger was cowards. In a
scene in the movie he kneeled down next to a wounded solider, and looked like he was about to cry as
he whispered in the soldiers ear. Not a minute later he was pointing a gun and yelling in the face of a
solider who was too scared to fight. The soldiers knew that Patton would not stand for weakness and
because of that they were motivated to fight for their General.
General Omar Nelson Bradley was a different kind of General. He was not nearly as imposing a figure
as General Patton. He did not wear a flashy uniform and didn t have custom made pistols around his
waste. He looked like an average soldier. General Bradley not only looked like a regular soldier, he
also acted like one. He did not threaten his soldiers with violence

Christopher Weaver on Obamacare
This article by Christopher Weaver in the Wall Street Journal brings up some key points about the
number of enrollees in Obamacare as the enrollment deadline closed on Monday. Along the way, the
website has had its downfalls with the Congress shut down and technical issues. This may have
hindered the number of people who potentially would have signed up but got frustrated during the
process. It has been estimated that 7.1 million people have enrolled in the market place. The impact of
this number on the health law is yet to be determined. It also is unseen how this will impact premiums
in the long run, as well as if these insurance companies can maintain the plans offered on the exchange
(Weaver, 2014). Furthermore, the effect of many of the provisions and mandates are yet to be seen; it
will be an interesting next few years to see how it pans out. For example, Weaver asks how many of
these millions were previously uninsured. The main point of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) was to
attract the uninsured population to get insurance under the law. Prior to the implementation of the
ACA, there were over 50 million uninsured in America. It is worth knowing how many of these
people were just switching plans or how many of them are new to the health insurance market. This
would be the better measure of the effectiveness of this law in regard to decreasing the total number of
uninsured in America. Even though this will still leave some insured, there are some reasons this may

Theme Of Identity In Othello
Othello s Identity, Morals, and Acceptance
Othello is perceived as one whom is lost in the novel. Caryl Phillps retells the Shakespeare s Othello.
In Nature of Blood by revisiting Shakespeare s Othello, Phillips focuses on discrimination, identity
and desire of home through interwoven stories. The novel discusses Othello s past and present
situation upon his arrival in Venice. The theme of acceptance is prominent throughout the novel.
Othello s character deteriorates as he struggles with his identity and the notion of home.
Othello is a general in the service of Venice. He is examined in the Shakespeare play as courageous,
noble qualities, trustworthy. It is obvious to feel a degree of sympathy for Othello because he is
considered an other . He is a man that is willing to accept that he is racially different, as he seems to
recognize his status. I tend to sympathize with Othello because he easily influenced, insecure, and a
benevolent heart for Desdemona. Othello relies heavily upon engaging with the Venetian culture and
his identity as the military general. The two stories draw parallel to each other because Othello s
identity is not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

European Success as a reference to the book European tribe. He explains that Othello tragedy began
when he started to forget he was black. The author describes Othello as white mask tucking black skin
away in shame (Calbi 5). Othello is oppressed from the outsider and desires to be accepted into the
Venetian culture. The Ghost of Strangers are traumatic and messy memories that cannot assimilate
entirely. Ghost of strangers always arrive at a different time throughout the novel. The notion of home
resides in the imaginative gap between desire. Home is a place where one s feels welcome. It is
equivalent to the marginalization of a host of

Sports leagues should be responsible for player s off field Behavior.
Sports leagues should be responsible for player s off field Behavior. An author Brant Webb a family

Prosecutors and Judges only gave the players slap on the wrist punishment the leagues also gave slap
on the wrist punishments as well giving those game suspensions for at least two to three games. The
leagues can and have power to exact further punishments for off field behavior. In individual player

The demand for an efficient renewable energy source is a driving force in ongoing research. Thermal
energy conversion is one such potential source that is under constant investigation and has endless

Many possibilities exist for energy production including: Fossil Fuels (natural gas, oil, coal, oilshale),
nuclear, solar, wind, geothermal, biomass and wastes, hydroelectric. Efficiency of the use of these

water is then used to recycle the vapor back to a condensed state and the cycle is repeated. An open
cycle system directly boils the warm surface water. Operating at low pressure, the steam that is created
is channeled in turn to a turbine engine. The water vapor is condensed again by cold water. If the
condensed water is kept seperate from the cold seawater it can be used for consumption or agriculture.
Other by products produced by the open cycle OTEC are a variety of minerals. Both cycles produce
electricity through the use of solar warmed water.
Steam Powered Turbine Engine
Capturing the power of steam is not a new idea but one that has been used for hundreds of years. A jet
of steam can readily do work on an object by the jet propolsion effect of steam escaping through a
small guided hole or by a stream colliding with a system of paddle wheels. Most early steam powered
machines used the principles of the latter. The system of paddles, or turbine, was used to drive a shaft
which in turn could drive any number of gear or belt driven mechanisms. The

Research Paper On The Eucharist
There are many different beliefs, problems, and changes that occurred overtime in regards to the
Eucharist.
People throughout the first century began worshipping God before the sun rose. The Christians would
often hold these gatherings in someone s house. However, the location was frequently changed due to
the occurrence of persecutions. During these services the people would read and interpret the
scripture. Later, the president of the brethren would be presented with the bread and the wine mixed
with water. He would take these gifts and offer glory and praise to god. These people believed that no
one was allowed to share the Eucharist unless he or she fully believed in the teachings of the scripture.

It isn t until the priests blesses these that they become the Body and Blood. Rightly then, do we
believe that the bread consecrated by the word of God has been made over into the Body of God of the
Word (St. Gregory). When this miracle occurs, the bread that was made over into that Body is made to
change into divine strength (St. Gregory). These two substances are worth so little before they have
been blessed, because they are simply common bread and wine. According to St. Gregory the bread
and wine receive a similar blessing as the men wanting to become priests do. The power of the Holy
Spirit comes down in both of these instances to give a blessing. The man turns into a priest, while the
bread and wine turn into the Body and Blood. (St.

Vatican II Council s Interpreting Scripture Analysis
There is no doubt of the impact that Pope John XXIII s Vatican II Council had on many aspects of the
life of the church. In particular, the orientations and convictions of the council on understanding the
Christian life appears to have acutely responded to the needs of the people, as it fueled, if not ignited,
an interest in spirituality that extended well beyond the Catholic Church, and well beyond the 1960 s.
With a universal call to one holiness rooted in the call of Christian baptism, spirituality was no longer
just for the ordained and the vowed religious. Further, the Council s emphasis on the role of the Word
of God satisfied a deep hunger of the people to allow God s Word to penetrate their prayer, their
morality, and their discipleship. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One cannot be done without the other. God calls us all to worship Him and remain connected to all
humanity. Therefore, Christian spirituality must be rooted in the liturgical life of the church, that is, to
be a part of the mystical Body of Christ. The Council understood the liturgy, specifically the
Eucharist, as the source and summit of Christian life. It is the source of nourishment for our ethics, our
morality, our sense of responsibility for, and accountability to, one another. It is here in the church, in
the midst of diversity and inclusivity that we find our common ground living in the Spirit of Christ. It
is in the liturgy that we are enlightened and empowered by the Holy Spirit, and gain the perspective of
how the world should be rooted in communion and

The Ancient Egyptian Pharaohs Fair The Negative...
Throughout history, incest, or consanguineal mating, has largely been considered taboo in cultures
around the world. This belief may not simply be culturally motivated, but evolutionarily advantageous
and biologically enforced. Despite this, in multiple cultures, the prestige of royalty and nobility seem
to outweigh this fundamental virtue. Nowhere is this more true than in ancient Egypt, where members
of the royal family were encouraged to marry and mate with close relatives, even siblings or parents.
How did the ancient Egyptian pharaohs fair the negative repercussions of an incestual bloodline?
While grandiose archeological findings may indicate that the nobility of ancient Egypt lived a
spectacularly lavish lifestyle and were revered as gods, this romantic viewpoint often overlooks the
underlying biological truth noble bloodlines were often ravaged by congenital disease, a consequence
of their consanguineal pairings. Consanguineous marriages, both in the past and in the modern day,
are dangerous practice because offspring resulting from these pairings are often afflicted with
congenital disorders and birth defects. The reason why this occurs can be found in Mendelian
genetics. Samia Temtamy and Mona Aglan, in their study of consanguinity and genetic disorders in
modern Egypt, state that The majority of birth defects arise as a consequence of homozygosity for
recessive traits (Temtamy and Aglan 2012: 13). When two people that are closely genetically related

My Birth Kahlo Analysis
Kahlo said, My painting carried with it the message of pain. Painting completed my life. I lost three
children. Painting substituted for all this (Ashton Dore, 1990). She left childbirth, a physical act, in an
image through constantly noticing the relationship between her physical experiences and her paintings
and being absorbed into actions of creation borne from her pain. It is almost difficult to find works of
art that depict this theme as honestly as Kahlo in Western art history. My Birth (1932) (Figure 24)
shows a front view of a woman delivering a baby (Souter Gerry, 2011, p. 60). Between the woman s
wide open legs is the head of a grown up Kahlo covered with blood and looking almost dead. A sheet

The first generation of feminists tried to reevaluate and praise the value of feminine attributes,
especially the female body, differentiated from masculine attributes and feminine experiences with an
essentialist attitude. Kahlo was praised as a legendary feminist artist, as the women inside her self
portraits are not passive objects for men s visual satisfaction but active observers who look closely
into their minds. As mentioned above as well, the female artists dilemma is that they are not only the
subject of painting but also the object being observed. Amid art history, established and dominated by
men, instead of depicting men as her competitors, Kahlo visualized the introspection of herself in her
paintings. She did not limit her role to competing with men, but she unfolded her sad personal history
in her unique way. Among them, the image of women depicted in Self Portrait with Curly Hair (1935)
(Figure 25) and Self Portrait with Cropped Hair (1940) (Figure 2) are not at all passive. It is in line
with the effort made by feminists involved in the early feminist art movement, which was to change
the passive and negative female image created by men. Kahlo is a true feminist artist as she delivered
truth observed through women s eyes in the period in which only truth seen through men s eyes was
accepted. She painted pondering women amid her suffering. She had a special ability to connect
femininity and masculinity, and this ability appeared in her painting (Bakewell Lisa,

The classifications of serotonin receptors, as well as drug classes that act upon serotonergic
transmission are discussed below. This includes serotonin (5 HT) agonists, antagonists and
medications that modulate 5 HT at the presynaptic level, all of which are of significant clinical
relevance.
Nuplazid (pimavanserin), is a selective serotonin inverse agonist (SSIA). Pimavanserin is a non
dopaminergic atypical antipsychotic drug with primarily selective inverse agonistic and minor
selective inverse agonistic properties on the 5 HT2A and 5 HT2C receptors, however it has no
substantial affinity on the 5 HT2B or dopamine receptors. Pimavanserin was discovered and

Another 5 HT2A and 5 HT2C antagonist with high affinity for dopamine receptors is the
therapeutically used atypical antipsychotic clozapine. Its significant clinical advantage is its reduced
incidence of extrapyramidal symptoms relative to first generation typical antipsychotics (Sansone,
2014).
5 HT3 antagonists include odansetron and palonosetron, which are particularly useful in the treatment
of chemotherapy induced nausea and vomiting (Sansone, 2014).
Lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) is a 5 HT1A, 5 HT2A, 5 HT2C, 5 HT5A and 5 HT6 agonist
demonstrating psychedelic properties. It is generally used recreationally however there is ongoing
research into it s application in LSD assisted psychotherapy (Müller, 2015)
Pimavanserin (marketed as Nuplazid) is a drug developed and approved for the treatment of PDP by
the FDA in April 2016. Its mechanism of action and therapeutic relevance is quite significant. As
previously mentioned it is a non dopaminergic second generation antipsychotic. It primarily exhibits
selective inverse agonistic behaviours due to its high affinity on the 5 HT2A receptors (Ki 0.087nM)
albeit low affinity on the 5 HT2C receptors (Ki 0.44nM) (Meltzer et al., 2012). Although it displays
anti hallucinogenic properties that assist in the overall alleviation of PDP, its mechanism of action is

Poverty In Ayesha Says, By William Jaco
It s no secret that poverty affects minorities not only here in America but abroad as well. Our inner
cities see the blunt of legal system; with African American males incarcerated at a rate of 4,347 per
100,000 as of 2010(Shaefer Wu Edin 89) . Ayesha Jaco, sister to rapper Lupe fiasco, wrote the spoken
word poem Ayesha Says to shed light on injustices of a system that overwhelmingly affects minorities.
Ayesha s poem directly addresses issues that have been not only plaguing the black community, but
also compares the poverty we see here with the poverty we seen in conflict ridden countries. Things
like police brutality and the school to prison pipeline leading to mass incarcerations of minorities
overall, poverty and how it systematically affects minorities, and how people of all races and creeds
are coming together to fight these injustices. She reflects on how these things impact communities and
force a season of change among the people afflicted.
Ayesha s starting lines Englewood or Egypt, Bedstuy or Baghdad...the west bank or the westside of
Chicago(Ayesha) , alludes to comparisons between impoverished nations overseas to impoverished
areas of our country that generally occupied by minorities. This gets the ball rolling on the crux of
problems that people in the ghetto face, poverty being one of them. One of these results of poverty
that Ayesha mentions are that of food deserts. Wright defines Food Deserts , low income communities
with a poverty rate of 20% or

Mahabharata Summary
Adi Parva, First Book: The Origins of the Families
The story opens as Sauti, a storyteller returning from the snake sacrifice of King Janamejaya,
approaches several wise men, or rishis, in the forest of Naimisha. He relates to them the Mahabharata
as he has heard it from Vaisampayana, a disciple of the poet Vyasa. Sauti begins by recounting the
death of King Parikshit of the Bharatas at the hands of Takshaka, aNaga, or snake man. King
Janamejaya, Parikshit s son and successor, had held the snake sacrifice in order to avenge the death of
his father, but the ceremony was stopped by the intervention of the learned Naga, Astika. Sauti then

K2 And Spice
Synthetic cannabis, commonly known as K2 and spice , is a designer drug created to serve as a legal
alternative to marijuana. This recreational drug is simple to obtain in head shops and by internet order.
Marketing for spice is commonly disguised as an herbal compound including the brand name which
also serves as the classification of the synthetic cannabinoid based on structural modifications. Some
examples include CP for cycloexyphenol, AM for alkyl or N methylpiperidine replacements, JWH,

It is notable to see that some of these theories were stated as early as 1961. Most would have to
disagree with these theories just because of the age of their births, but to most people s surprise they
still hold in the 21st century. The arousal theory is basically self explanatory. This was theorized by
P.H. Tannenbaum in 1975. He said exposure to television violence increases aggression because
violence increases excitation, or arouses viewers (Tannenbaum Zillman, 1975). This is also being
found in the recent studies, which shows the progression in the media s will to change. The social
learning theory was described by Dr. Bandura. This theory says ways of behaving are learned by
observing others, and that this is a major means by which children acquire unfamiliar behavior,
although performance of acquired behavior will depend at least in part on factors other than
acquisition (Bandura, 1973). A perfect example of this theory was when the murders occurred after the
prizefights. The disinhibition hypothesis was L. Berkowitz s investigation. This hypothesis explains
that television violence in certain circumstances will result in increased interpersonal aggression
because it weakens inhibitions against such behavior (Berkowitz, 1962).The final theory, catharsis
hypothesis was written by S. Feshbach. This theory explains that under certain conditions exposure to
television violence will reduce

Policy Change Management And Its Effects On The Environment
2.6 Change Management
Policy change management refers to making amendments to policies in a systematic manner. It also
encompasses all responses channelled towards a cause of change which may be beyond the control of
the organization s management or may be needed to either sure the success of the policy or reduce the
impact of the failure (The Pathfinder Project, 2003). It is without any contradiction that in this
dynamic environment, polices cannot be rigid due to a series of factors such as new legislation, social
unrest, commodity prices that may impact positively or negatively on the environment. This assertion
is even strengthened by the fact that policies cannot exist independently from intervening variables.

Change within the policy process could also be responsive to triggers of change within the system.
Managing the change that may happen during the policy process from policy initiation to its
implementation help ensure that the policy succeed. The implementation is particularly more
important as it is the aspect that gets the job done .
Even the most detailed policy implementation plan may still be subjected to changes due to sometimes
anticipated but often unplanned outcome of a complex of many decisions structured at different levels
and sometimes power distribution between groups involved in the various stages of implementing the
policy (Terpstra Havinga 2001). According to (Sutton 1999), the policy process research is a
combination of the study of stability and change (transformation or flexibility). Stability: because a
strong and robust system is needed to bring about desirable outcomes and change: because there must
be a response to continuing changing demands of end users and the environment. Stability may be the
enemy of change but stability itself must be brought about by a preceding change and so is a function
of change. Grote (2009) puts it beautifully asserting that: organisations have had to continuously
adjust the balance between stability and flexibility in order to

The African American Many Rivers We Cross Summary
Episode 5 titled Rise of the PBS series The African Americans Many Rivers We Cross , tells the story
of black Americans fighting for their rights. In this essay I am going to talk about key events that took
place, and my thoughts about them.
We first start of in the 1940 s where black Americans pursued economic opportunity in Chicago
through the Auto Industry. Where they could be paid a steady wage job. African Americans were given
the most dangerous jobs located in the foundry. A time in the middle of World War 2, where due to
labor demand the assembly line became integrated. Where segregation ran ramped, and they was a lot
of hatred toward blacks. In 1943 a race war broke out in Detroit. White Americans rioted, abused, and
destroyed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He used the media in a way that would cause people to look at the unjust acts against the African
American citizens. Like in the case of the march on Selma. Where the visual impact of the brutality
towards African Americans caused an uproar. While Malcom X was a man who truly wanted to
confront the utter hypocrisy of what the government called law. And yet still have so much inequality
towards African Americans.
Then in 1965, the Voting Rights Act was signed into law by President Lyndon B. Johnson. And though
this was passed into legislation the voting process were still rigged against African Americans. A
young man James Meredith began to walk along the south to spread awareness of the challenges
African Americans faced to vote. He was shot two days into his cause. The walk was continued by
Martin Luther King, and current SNCC leader Stokely Carmichael. This was the beginning of a
decline in nonviolent protest by Martin Luther King, and a more result driven tactics by Stokely.
Stokely Carmichael s approach to the civil rights movement. He wanted the black Americans to
embrace their rights and take their freedom. He starts to influence the people with the phrase Black
Power . You find the voice of the African American people change to a more self conscious of what

Buddhist Mantra
The Significance of the Buddhist Mantra
In Dharamsala, India, in an open square, a Tibetan refugee sits exposed to the full force of the sun. His
skin is baked brown and wrinkled from many afternoons such as this one. He is thin as a rail, and his
legs fold beneath him in a way that looks painful to the westerners who pass him. He wears tattered
rags and looks unwashed, but sports a long white beard a prized rarity among Tibetans. His eyes, blind
and white as his beard, stare placidly into the distance, then flutter as he lifts his head and begins to
chant. Om mani peme hung, he calls. Om mani peme hung.
Two Americans, a couple from New Jersey, witness this spectacle and are entranced. The man, after
much prodding from his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He returns to his room and waits for his wife to return from her day s adventures. But later that night
he ponders what he really learned: that om has three letters, that mani is a jewel and padme (as the
word the Tibetans pronounce peme is written) a lotus, and that hum (the Tibetan s hung ) is an
inherent contradiction. The next morning, when he boards his plane to Newark, he has passed his final
judgment on the blind man: though he may be a great practitioner of Buddhism, he is a silly,
superstitious man, and has grown far too fond of pretty words.
What are we to make of the fable above? Is it the story of a Westerner hastily passing judgment on a
tradition he does not understand? Certainly it is. The study of Tibetan Buddhism is the effort of a
lifetime perhaps several and a non practicing Christian interloper from Hoboken is hardly qualified to
pontificate on the matter. (For the moment we will say nothing of an American college student who
has merely read a few books on the subject).
Yet is it not also possible that there is some truth to the ignorant man s claims? That what lies behind
the sacred institution of mantra is less profound esoterica than it is the pure, childish delight taken in
the sounds of language? This paper will seek to explore this possibility, both in the abstract and
through the particulars of the mantra of Avalokitesvara,

Overstock s 2008 Financial Audit
Overstock is currently audited by the CPA Firm KPMG LLP and has been since 2009. According to
the proxy statement pursuant to schedule 14A KPMG s aggregate audit fees for 2012 and 2011 were
$1,037,000 and $1,092,000 respectively; all of which were approved by the audit committee. The
amounts of $40,000 in 2012 and 21,000 is 2011 were related to the audits for Overstocks 401k benefit
plan. Additionally, $88,000 in 2012 and $96,000 in 2011 were related to tax services, and 221,000 in
2012 were related to a cloud based consulting project.
Previous to KPMG, Grant Thornton was Overstock s auditor for an Interim period from March 2009
to November 2009. Based on the information published in the 8K, Overstock dismissed Grant
Thornton due to a revision of a $785,000 asset that Grant Thornton wanted to amend in the company s
pervious 2009 quarterly filling and 2008 financial results. Overstock disagreed with Grant Thornton s
position, and unfortunately the timing of the situation could not have been worst considering the SEC
filing deadline were approaching. Surprisingly, Grant Thornton retaliated Overstock s comments
affirming that they never took position as to whether Overstocks 2008 financial statements should be
reinstated, since they did not issue an audit opinion for the 2008 financial. Furthermore, Grant
Thornton clarified that they were engaged to review, not to audit, the company s interim financial
statements which consists primarily of performing analytical procedures

Similarities Between Iron Man And Spider-Man
To start, the superheroes, Iron Man and Spider Man, have two very contrasting origin stories. In Iron
Man, Tony Stark first becomes Iron Man as a way to escape captivity from the Ten Ring terrorists.
After being injured from a bomb in Afghanistan, Stark is taken hostage with pieces of shrapnel in his
chest (Iron Man). Ho Yinsen, another captive, manages to keep Stark alive by imbedding an
electromagnet, which prevents the shrapnel from reaching his heart, into his chest and attaching it to a
car battery (Iron Man). Stark constructs a small version of an arc reactor that is able to power his
electromagnet, which also powers the super suit that he designs as a way to free Ho Yinsen and
himself from the terrorist group (Iron Man). Seeing that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both superheroes are very intelligent, but in two contrasting manners. Stark, born a child prodigy who
built a circuit board when he was four years old, an engine at age six, and graduated summa cum laude
from MIT when he was seventeen, has almost a genius level of intelligence (Iron Man). Parker, still in
high school, is a member of the academic team, as well as considered a nerd by the shirts he wears
(Spider Man: Homecoming). What they both have in common is that they are innovative. Stark creates
his original suit out of the materials he has in captivity (Iron Man). He can create almost anything he
desires, as well as come up with clever solutions on the spot to outwit the villains. Parker tinkers and
builds things. He creates his own Spider Man suit, complete with goggles and web shooters, as well as
the web fluid that he uses (Spider Man: Homecoming). He is able to think on the spot about ways to
problem solve, such as leaping around the police choppers to break the window in the Washington
Monument scene, as well as using his webs to reconnect and stabilize the Staten Island Ferry in the
Ferry scene (Spider Man: Homecoming). The ways that these superheroes can use their intelligence to
innovate help them become a stronger superhero, so they can use their powers for

Puritans In Twelfth Night
Despite what many may think, being called a Puritan is an insult. Malvolio is the head servant in Lady
Olivia s house; he represents the Puritans in the play Twelfth Night. Twelfth Night is a play written by
William Shakespeare. It is a comedic play about a girl name Viola, who pretends to be a guy named
Cesario, and the love triangle that she is involved in. Malvolio represents the Puritans in the play
Twelfth Night because of his need for power, his attitude, and his opinions. The Puritans beliefs are
very similar to Malvolio s. According to Christine Heyrman a professor at the University of Delaware,
the puritans want to prohibit all vices. Of these vices include gambling, being drunk, swearing,
dressing very showy, and Sabbath breaking. Sabbath breaking is when you stop saying the daily
prayer. The puritans believed in getting rid of the corrupt and sinful practices that has taken ... Show

Marry, sir, sometimes he is kind of puritan (Shakespeare). Maria said this to Sir Toby and Andrews
after Malvolio interrupted their get together. Malvolio has many characteristics and similar beliefs to
the puritans. They both want power. Just think, I could be Count Malvolio! (Shakespeare, Twelfth
Night) This is part of a little rant that Malvolio had about Sir Toby and how he would love to marry
Lady Olivia so he could be the Count of the house. Malvolio is a very self righteous guy, who wants to
climb the social ladder. He does not like the class he is in now because he wants to be in control. This
is just like the puritans because they wanted to be in control of the churches and have the power over
what was being taught about the word of God. Malvolio hates Sir Toby because he is a drunk. This is
similar to how to the puritans want to prohibit all the vices, which include being drunk, along with
other things. Malvolio is also a killjoy which is similar to the puritans because they follow the word of

Anastasia Nickolaevna Romanov Research Paper
Anastasia Nickolaevna Romanova, was the last Grand Duchess of Russia. She was born unto Nicholas

siblings: three older sisters named Olga, Tatiana, and Maria, and a younger brother Named Alexei.
Alexei was never in very good shape, he had hemophilia, and after he injured himself the only one
who could ever make him feel better was Father Grigory(Rasputin). They lived in Tsarskeo Palace.
While she was Younger she was taught spelling and prayers by her mother. As she grew older she was

In 1914 everything changed when the Germans declared war on Russia. After that life wasn t all super
fun. The Tsar was always gone attending to war business. But their lessons weren t on a super tight
schedule, which Anastasia was very pleased about. Everything that had anything to do with Germany
was outlawed, St. Petersburg was changed to Petrograd because it sounded German, and they couldn t
play music that was made by German composers. During the war Alexandra made all the not used
palaces and mansions into a makeshift hospital for the soldiers. In March of 1917 Nicholas II
abdicated in favor of his brother Mikhail Alexandrovitch, but then he abdicated as well, then there was
longer a tsar. The Duma then set up a provisional government. That same month the Romanovs were
under house arrest. In August 1917 they were moved to Tobolsk, Siberia. While there they weren t
even allowed to leave their fenced in yard, except for early Mass, or else the soldiers that had to stay
with them would get very angry because they had too much freedom . In April 1918 Alexandra,

The Sirens Richard Wilbur Analysis
The Sirens by Richard Wilbur dramatizes the innate desire to experience life to the fullest. The author
parallels this to the Siren s song that ancient travelers were drawn towards. The Sirens were creatures
in ancient mythology who lured sailors that would later be shipwrecked on the shore of creatures
island. They enticed sailors with their delighting songs luring them closer, but when these people gave
way to their burning desires they ultimately lose everything. The Greek story of the Sirens acts as a
metaphor for the human call to walk the road that is their life and though we may have regrets, if one
chooses not to follow the road than they will never truly find their self. In the opening of the poem, the
modern narrator is wandering ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

that he will forever experience(12,11). There is no end point to his passion to fully chase life. He will

finds that he is richer because of his regret (14). The things that he never saw or accomplished made
him stronger because he learned to accept his remorse, instead of fighting it. In spite of the challenges
he faced he became stronger emotionally, fully understanding hardship. In the same way the eyes of
the sailors were opened by the song, to the elements of themselves, causing them to pursue the Sirens

Best Guitar Strings
After breaking one of my guitar strings broke on my Fender Stratocaster, I decided that I needed to do
some more research on my next set. Turns out that there are hundreds of different strings varying by
everything to the coating to size. So I did what any human would do and googled Best Guitar Strings .
What I concluded is that there is **no** single answer!
Guitarist tend to choose their string based on quite a few things: How they want their music to sound,
whether that means using distortion or having a clean feel, use string bending, play fingerstyle, how
forceful they are, how much oils and salts seems to impact string life and sound, and how much they
re willing to spend.
On electric guitars, the most ofter used string diameter is a extra light gauge. This set of strings starts
with at .010 for the high E. Some guitarist that prefer a lighter touch and do a ton of string bending
will use a super light set where the high E will start at .009.
On the other side, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
.009, .010. and .011. They all have ups and downs with Heavier strings breaking less from rigorous
playing and Lighter being easier on the fingers for bending.
Now You also have coating options but I m not going to go into that today beside saying that the High
Tech coating that are more expensive and add little string life for the price.
What do I use?
I just swapped from Dunlop Electric Nickel Wound (.009) to the Ernie Ball Regular Slinky (.010). I
found the .009s to be a little light for my liking and they gave a lot of popping or snapping when
played against the frets. From what I ve read .010 gauge strings seem to be a great middle ground
among guitarist compromising on many aspects of the super light and the light .
What would I recommend?
Really you just have to play around with some different gauges and see which ones fit you. It all
depends on the player. For your first set you can t go wrong with the .010

The Food Of Meat, And The First Tiered Look Into The...
Today, society has entered into some truly interesting yet important times. None more so that with
regards to the origin of the food provisions people consume. Bringing a debate to the forefront of
mainstream attention, in regards to the mass consumption of meat, and the ethical dilemmas faced
with the current model of harvesting of meat, in particular the harvesting of beef cattle. Concurrently
major scholars and research institutions, are developing studies and examining the current state of
health to humans whereby they are comparing those who regularly consume meat, to those who
abstain from animal products to varying degrees. While studies are in the infancy stages, enough
progress has been shown to offer some basis of debate. Considering the health of the consumer of
beef, or the people who eat it, offer two general yet major stakeholders in the debate of meat, and the
first tiered look into the ethics of eating meat. Aside from the health of the consumer, the practice of
which the animal is farmed is quintessential to the well being of the animals while influencing the
economics of the industry. Modern animal harvesting, or the life cycle of the animal, offers a
commercial source to a large portion of the country, affectionately known as the Heartland of America
or the Midwest. All the while non traditional animal friendly farms, where a multitude of animals live
in cohabitation of each other, that convey the impression of an animal product producing utopia, while

Evolution Of The Internet And Network Protocols
The Evolution of the Internet and Network Protocols The internet has revolutionized the modern
world like no other invention has before, except perhaps, electricity. The internet allows sharing and
collaboration to take place between people on opposite sides of the globe. Vinton G. Cerf, often called
the Father of the Internet , admits that when the original idea of an intranet was in its infancy, there
was no possible way to imagine all of the ways we would come to use it (NDTV, 2013). But how does
it work? The internet, based on the concept of packet switching , involves the travelling of small
packets of data over one or more networks (Frenzel, 2013). This can be compared to electronic
postcards , meaning that a computer generates a piece of data and flings it into the net, just like the
postal system, except 100 million times faster (Cerf, 2013). This concept allows one computer to
speak to many different computers around the network by sending out these electronic postcards .
However, before these networks can work seamlessly together, they must use a common protocol, or
set of rules for transmitting and receiving these packets of data. There are several protocols currently
in use, including the OSI Model, the TCP/IP Model, UDP, HTTP, and FDP (Mitchell, 2014), but the
most commonly used is Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) (Gilmer, 2011).
Even as early as 1977, TCP/IP was being used by other networks to link to ARPANET (Kozierok,

Poverty And Its Effects On America
When most people think of poverty they think of somewhere overseas, however; poverty is a lot closer
to home than one might think. The winding, twisting roads of Eastern Kentucky have picturesque
scenery, but many of the people here are struggling in these hills. The people of Eastern Kentucky
have been dependent on the coal industry to feed their families and pay their bills, but this once
thriving industry has been on the decline in recent years. Without coal, Eastern Kentucky is facing a
grim future and many of its residents are struggling with the effects of losing one of their main
employment opportunities. Many people in this region face poverty every day and with the prospects
grim, poverty is an ongoing issue. According to Merriam Webster, poverty is defined as the state of
one who lacks a usual or socially acceptable amount of money or material possessions. If you drive
through many of the towns that dot the Appalachians, you will see abandoned buildings, dilapidated
homes with trash littering the front yard all just commonplace in this area. Poverty is evident wherever
you turn in these communities. Clay County is just one struggling area of the Appalachians. Here the
median income is $22,296, barely above the poverty line. 12.7 % of Clay County s residents are
unemployed, all scary statistics; since this is coal country (Lowrey, Annie).Without coal bringing in
jobs like it used to, other counties in Eastern Kentucky have similar statistics that show a

  • 2. Princess Blobfish Short Story In the middle of Nowhere (Nowhere is the neighboring town to Shroom Land,) Lightning struck Nowhere town and sent it into burning hot flames. All but one fled town and he placed a chest on a pedestal in the middle of the flames and he was engulfed in flames, and all thought he was dead. No one dared to head back to the town. On a sunny but cold day, Princess Blobfish marked another day off the golden calendar. She was a kind, sweet girl who knew when not to argue. Two more days til my B day. she squealed excitedly. Clop clop clop. The princess looked out of her window and saw a white horse running wild, and watched the skinny villager riding it tug at the horse s reins. Yet another day in her kingdom. She began to make her way to the dining hall when a familiar voice beckoned Princess, your father needs you. He was feisty and demanding, fat, and VERY curious. Let s be off. the king said. He left the large kingdom headed to all the shops to find a present for his daughter, but no shops had any goods. He was angry and told everyone to restock immediately. • 3. The Negative Effects Of European Colonialism In Africa Why is Africa so much less developed than the other countries all around the world? It has been scientifically proven that all ethnic groups all over the world have similar physical abilities. European colonialism stopped Africa from developing into a strong and mighty continent. In the 18th and 19th century, the massive colonisation of Africa by the European forces began. Europeans were looking for a new trade route because they wanted to avoid paying expensive taxes while trading with the East (Causes of the Scramble for Africa, African History). The European Colonialism in Africa had a negative effect, and it has been proven by several reasons. One, resources and money from Africa was taken to Europe by the European colonists. Two, Africans ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The European Colonialism in Africa had a critical effect on the number of ethnic groups and tribes ( The Scramble of Africa ). In the 1800 s, Africa had over 7400 tribes (Tribal Groups of Africa). The number of tribes today in Africa is only about 3000 ( African Tribe List ). This proves that the European Colonialism in Africa had a huge impact on the number of tribes. The loss of tribes caused the native Africans to lose their traditions and cultures, such as their own language and belief. Also, European colonialism in Africa brought Christianity to Africa. The Africans were forced to forget their traditional religion they ve been following for a long time. The Europeans forced the Africans into believing in Christianity (Jennifer Mueller). These weren t the only factors how the European colonists took away the Africans culture and traditions. Having a national language as a nation is one of the most critical factor of keeping their own culture. However, some of the native Africans were also forced to stop using their national languages. The loss of national languages caused lots of different parts of Africa to lose their own tradition. European colonialism in Africa was negative not only because of the loss of culture and tradition, but also the lack of freedom granted to the native ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Texas Constitution Vs. U.s. Constitution Texas is considered a very diverse and unique state in many different aspects. It is the second largest state with more than twenty six million people residing. People all over the state live in a variety of environments, cities, suburbs, rural areas, you name it. Of course though, like in everything else, there are always both positive and negative things. However, despite the fact that Texas have very high poverty rates and it has the second highest income inequality, Texas is a very interesting state and it has a lot of things that are worth learning about. I learned some things about Texas politics that I thought were very interesting. These topics include the State Constitution and the legislature. The Texas Constitution and the U.S. Constitution is very similar to each other in terms of structure. Both documents provide framework, and the amendments come from the will of the people. The Texas Constitution was written to govern the the individual state alone so it should be more specific and less flexible to change. On the other hand, the U.S Constitution is more flexible than the Texas Constitution because of the fact that it was designed to be governing a total of fifty states with each individual states differing from others in values, beliefs, attitudes, behaviors, and the states consist of individuals who have similar values. Today, we are still operating under the 1876 Constitution with four hundred ninety one amendments, which includes a preamble and seventeen ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Sociology Chapter Summary In chapter 7 of our text, Sociology, A Brief Introduction by Richard Schaefer, social control is discussed. According to the text, Social control is defined as techniques and strategies for preventing deviant human behavior in any society (Schaefer, 159). An example used in the text to explain this concept was informal norms such as dress codes introduced by peer groups in order to, govern the behavior of their members (Schaefer, 159). Within society, a term that is commonly known as deviance stems from social control. Deviance is exhibiting behavior that violates the standards of conduct or expectations of a group or society (Schaefer. 165). Deviant behavior goes against the social norms of society. One current event that has brought ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Grand Theft Auto Debate A. Can you imagine a situation where an entertainment industry designed or created a video game where you were allowed to kill any police officers by set them on fire, massacre them using rifles and chainsaws? Do you think that anyone wanted to buy that kind of games? The answer is yes and they already did. 1. Did you know the worldwide sale of a violent game named Grand Theft Auto has sold nearly $2.3 billion? According to a CBS news article with a title Can a Video Game Relate to Murder , Grand Theft Auto (GTA) is a video game where the players can live in a world administered by the laws of depravity. If there re people you don t like? Kill them. If you see a car that you like, steal it (Leung). B. In June 2013, a teen who was a big fan ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So, for me, banning the sale of violent video games to minors is one of the best prevention methods to put an end to this problem. 1. This legislation is to strengthen the present industry controlled rating system and to ban the sale or rental any video games that are excessively violent that consist killing, hurting, dissecting or sexually assaulting an image of a human being to those who were under 18 (Mears). 2. Retailers who violate this law will be fine and it also requires the game maker to put an 18 label on greatly violent video games (Mears). 3. This legislation is really beneficial to our society as it can prevent youths in our community to get engaged in any violent acts caused by video games influence. Restriction may not be a good solution as there are some parents that do not care what their children do; they just allow their children to do whatever they want. But, with government involvement, it was harder for the minors to get access to the violent video games. Now, you all can see that banning of the sale of violent video games to minors is the best way that we can do, as there are no other efficient ways to put an end to this problem. What happen if we do not support this legislation? IV. Visualize (Body ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

We see this when Raleigh and Osborne are having their last drink before the raid; I wonder what the Boche are doing over there now?........I don t know. D you like Coffee...? the author shows here that Raleigh is keen to know as much as possible about the raid whilst Osborne is trying to put it off for as long as possible as he is worried about the millions of bullets . We, as an audience, see Raleigh become deeply affected by the war, succeeding the raid, (when he had left Osborne dead, in no man s land). His appearance is more rugged and dismal in comparison to his previous shining uniform this could be a reflection of his emotions as well as just war worn; this would be seen as a landmark in Raleigh s life in the trenches. The audience is taken through Raleigh s experience of war and his relationship with his fellow men and officers. He became a steadfast part of the story with which the audience could relate and he formed a connection between the characters and action taking place. It is therefore a loss when he dies that is felt by everyone absorbed in the play. • 8. Predictable Crises of Adulthood by Gail Sheehy The Trying Twenties In the text, Gail Sheehy describes the difficulties, as well as freedom, which twenty somethings are presented with when they enter the adult world. The twenties is the period when one is eager to find his own way of life. Some choose to go to graduate school, some get married early and try out different jobs to see which suits them best, and some stay single and put their career first. Two impulses are at work during this period. One is to be set as early as possible; the other is to keep experimenting. A balance struck between the two determines what one s twenties will be like. Singlehood can be a life structure of the twenties, too. The daughter of an ego boosting father, taught to try anything she wished so long as she didn t bail out before reaching the top, decided to become a traveling publicist. That meant being free to move from city to city as better jobs opened up. The structure that best served her purpose was to remain unattached. She shared apartments and lived in women s hotels, having a wonderful time, until at 27 she landed the executive job of her dreams. I had no feeling of rootlessness because each time I moved, the next job offered a higher status or salary. And in every city I traveled, I would look up old friends from college and meet them for dinner. That gave me a stabilizing influence. At 30 Shazam! The same woman was suddenly married and pregnant with twins. Surrounded by a totally new and unforeseen life structure, she was pleasantly baffled to find herself content. I guess I was ready for a family without knowing it. The Trying Twenties is one of the longer and more stable periods, stable, that is, in comparison with the rockier passages that lead to and exit from it. Although each nail driven into our first external life structure is tentative, a tryout, once we have made our commitments we are convinced they are the right ones. • 9. Examples Of Simile In God Of Small Things In the God of Small Things , Sophie Mol is displayed in the book as a beautiful girl for she is not only from England, but a mixed white Indian. Estha and Rahel, her cousins close in age, are unfortunately seen as both exiles and beastly for they are twins of their divorced mother, Ammu. The differences of approval is completely evident in the way that their aunt, Baby Kochamma , pressures both Estha and Rahel into recitations of prayer and English songs to please Sophie Mol (Roy, 83) . With the artistic style of the passage on page 33, Roy uses simile, word choice, and imagery to demonstrate Estha and Rahel s forced acceptance of their family s ugly obsession with Sophie Mol that in turns changes their lives forever. Roy s usage of simile is extremely powerful to explain how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As explained in the previous paragraph, Roy uses imagery such as burned houses and singed photographs to explain how their lives would become like hell. To dive deeper into the word choice, Roy not only uses hell like adjectives, but uses fragments to get her points across. In the first paragraph of this passage, it is evident that Roy uses fragments with only one worded or two worded sentences. She excludes the words preserved and accounted for, to bring more meaning to how their lives had changed. That the hell in which they were to live in would become preserved, and would be accounted for, because Estha and Rahel s family would make sure of it. In the second paragraph, Roy uses the sentence fragment, Little events, ordinary things, smashed and reconstituted (Roy, 33). Roy specifically grouped these words together to indicated that the small things would amount to such huger problems in the end. That those small events would become a different story in the end as well. That they would foreshadow the life that Rahel and Estha were destined to have because they had been ... She s an orphan in nineteenth century England so, like everyone in that category, she s got a hard knock life. When she graduates from the orphanage she gets a job as a governess and ends up falling in love with her hot boss and they re all set to get married when now s the real drumroll he s already married. Nissan says the beefy V8 is outfitted with variable valve event lift (VVEL) technology for improved response and performance. Further, Nissan enhanced throttle response by controlling the intake valve and also employs direct injection gas technology. Where the previous engine created 317 horsepower and 385 pound feet of torque, the latest engine makes 390 horsepower and 401 pound feet of torque. Nissan rounds out the powertrain with a seven speed automatic transmission. Powerful, Expressive Exterior Without getting lost in the details, Nissan combined elements from its other vehicles to develop the new Armada s exterior. To begin, the grille offers a familiar look, one advanced by the popular Pathfinder crossover. While the headlamp assembly is similar to the Titan s, it offers its own look. The lower grille or air intake is unique, coming in wider and longer than the pickup truck line. The truck s frontal presentation is muscular, with a sculpted hood not unlike the Titan s. So, what you have here is a combination of existing and new Nissan elements to establish the Armada s face.

The first element is the salary criteria for the employees (Vogel et al., 2007). All the states in the United States are covered under the FLSA guidelines and should compensate the employees accordingly to avoid any possible disputes arising from employee suing the business for mistreatment. The Non exempt personnel must be rewarded for the hours they work overtime; the normal working hours for these employees are forty hours in a week. • 15. Natural Sugar Vs. Artificial Sweeteners Natural Sugar vs. Artificial Sweeteners by Kimberly Reynolds The debate between naturally derived sugars and low calorie artificial sweeteners has been going on for years now. As our population s obesity rate grows every year and health concerns related to weight control grows along with it, natural sugar is scrutinized and we are told to keep away from it as it is our enemy. Over the last couple of decades, we have been introduced to more and more varieties of artificial sweeteners promising to deliver the same sweetness or even more sweetness than natural sugar (some offer as much as 200 times more sweetness than sugar) but with a much lower calorie content, or some even no calories at all. Artificial sweeteners such as Splenda, Sweet n Low, NutraSweet, and Equal have become popular as better alternatives to table sugar, promising to help battle weight gain and actually assist in losing weight. However, does this make it the healthier option? As with all things, both natural sugar and artificial sugar have their pros and cons, but in order to find the best option in regards to our health and futures, it s important to weigh them according to scientific findings and research. As we hear of more studies exclaiming alarming findings of negative health concerns related to obesity and our continuously growing percentage of obesity in our country, particularly childhood obesity, sugar is in the spotlight. The way that Patton delivered this speech would make even the softest recruit fresh from boot camp ready to tear an enemies head off without a second thought. As the movie went on General Patton showed both his caring side and his meaner side. Patton was a devoted soldier and loved what he did, and the only thing that made him anger was cowards. In a scene in the movie he kneeled down next to a wounded solider, and looked like he was about to cry as he whispered in the soldiers ear. Not a minute later he was pointing a gun and yelling in the face of a solider who was too scared to fight. The soldiers knew that Patton would not stand for weakness and because of that they were motivated to fight for their General. General Omar Nelson Bradley was a different kind of General. • 19. Christopher Weaver on Obamacare This article by Christopher Weaver in the Wall Street Journal brings up some key points about the number of enrollees in Obamacare as the enrollment deadline closed on Monday. Along the way, the website has had its downfalls with the Congress shut down and technical issues. This may have hindered the number of people who potentially would have signed up but got frustrated during the process. It has been estimated that 7.1 million people have enrolled in the market place. The impact of this number on the health law is yet to be determined. It also is unseen how this will impact premiums in the long run, as well as if these insurance companies can maintain the plans offered on the exchange (Weaver, 2014). Furthermore, the effect of many of the provisions and mandates are yet to be seen; it will be an interesting next few years to see how it pans out. For example, Weaver asks how many of these millions were previously uninsured. The main point of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) was to attract the uninsured population to get insurance under the law. Prior to the implementation of the ACA, there were over 50 million uninsured in America. It is worth knowing how many of these people were just switching plans or how many of them are new to the health insurance market. This would be the better measure of the effectiveness of this law in regard to decreasing the total number of uninsured in America. Closed cycle OTEC systems use the warm surface water to boil a fluid that has a low boiling point (e.g. ammonia). The pressure caused by the expanding vapor is then used to turn a turbine. The turbine then turns a generator to produce electricity. Cold water is then used to recycle the vapor back to a condensed state and the cycle is repeated. An open cycle system directly boils the warm surface water. Operating at low pressure, the steam that is created is channeled in turn to a turbine engine. The water vapor is condensed again by cold water. If the condensed water is kept seperate from the cold seawater it can be used for consumption or agriculture. Other by products produced by the open cycle OTEC are a variety of minerals. Both cycles produce electricity through the use of solar warmed water. With a universal call to one holiness rooted in the call of Christian baptism, spirituality was no longer just for the ordained and the vowed religious. This belief may not simply be culturally motivated, but evolutionarily advantageous and biologically enforced. Despite this, in multiple cultures, the prestige of royalty and nobility seem to outweigh this fundamental virtue. Nowhere is this more true than in ancient Egypt, where members of the royal family were encouraged to marry and mate with close relatives, even siblings or parents. How did the ancient Egyptian pharaohs fair the negative repercussions of an incestual bloodline? While grandiose archeological findings may indicate that the nobility of ancient Egypt lived a spectacularly lavish lifestyle and were revered as gods, this romantic viewpoint often overlooks the underlying biological truth noble bloodlines were often ravaged by congenital disease, a consequence of their consanguineal pairings. Consanguineous marriages, both in the past and in the modern day, are dangerous practice because offspring resulting from these pairings are often afflicted with congenital disorders and birth defects. As mentioned above as well, the female artists dilemma is that they are not only the subject of painting but also the object being observed. Amid art history, established and dominated by men, instead of depicting men as her competitors, Kahlo visualized the introspection of herself in her paintings. Ayesha s poem directly addresses issues that have been not only plaguing the black community, but also compares the poverty we see here with the poverty we seen in conflict ridden countries. Things like police brutality and the school to prison pipeline leading to mass incarcerations of minorities overall, poverty and how it systematically affects minorities, and how people of all races and creeds are coming together to fight these injustices. She reflects on how these things impact communities and force a season of change among the people afflicted. Ayesha s starting lines Englewood or Egypt, Bedstuy or Baghdad...the west bank or the westside of Chicago(Ayesha) , alludes to comparisons between impoverished nations overseas to impoverished areas of our country that generally occupied by minorities. This gets the ball rolling on the crux of problems that people in the ghetto face, poverty being one of them. One of these results of poverty that Ayesha mentions are that of food deserts. Wright defines Food Deserts , low income communities with a poverty rate of 20% or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Most would have to disagree with these theories just because of the age of their births, but to most people s surprise they still hold in the 21st century. The arousal theory is basically self explanatory. This was theorized by P.H. Tannenbaum in 1975. He said exposure to television violence increases aggression because violence increases excitation, or arouses viewers (Tannenbaum Zillman, 1975). This is also being found in the recent studies, which shows the progression in the media s will to change. The social learning theory was described by Dr. Bandura. This theory says ways of behaving are learned by observing others, and that this is a major means by which children acquire unfamiliar behavior, although performance of acquired behavior will depend at least in part on factors other than acquisition (Bandura, 1973). A perfect example of this theory was when the murders occurred after the prizefights. The disinhibition hypothesis was L. Berkowitz s investigation. This hypothesis explains that television violence in certain circumstances will result in increased interpersonal aggression because it weakens inhibitions against such behavior (Berkowitz, 1962).The final theory, catharsis hypothesis was written by S. It also encompasses all responses channelled towards a cause of change which may be beyond the control of the organization s management or may be needed to either sure the success of the policy or reduce the impact of the failure (The Pathfinder Project, 2003). It is without any contradiction that in this dynamic environment, polices cannot be rigid due to a series of factors such as new legislation, social unrest, commodity prices that may impact positively or negatively on the environment. Change within the policy process could also be responsive to triggers of change within the system. Managing the change that may happen during the policy process from policy initiation to its implementation help ensure that the policy succeed. Even the most detailed policy implementation plan may still be subjected to changes due to sometimes anticipated but often unplanned outcome of a complex of many decisions structured at different levels and sometimes power distribution between groups involved in the various stages of implementing the policy (Terpstra Havinga 2001). According to (Sutton 1999), the policy process research is a combination of the study of stability and change (transformation or flexibility). Stability: because a strong and robust system is needed to bring about desirable outcomes and change: because there must be a response to continuing changing demands of end users and the environment. This can be compared to electronic postcards , meaning that a computer generates a piece of data and flings it into the net, just like the postal system, except 100 million times faster (Cerf, 2013). This concept allows one computer to speak to many different computers around the network by sending out these electronic postcards . However, before these networks can work seamlessly together, they must use a common protocol, or set of rules for transmitting and receiving these packets of data. There are several protocols currently in use, including the OSI Model, the TCP/IP Model, UDP, HTTP, and FDP (Mitchell, 2014), but the most commonly used is Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) (Gilmer, 2011). Even as early as 1977, TCP/IP was being used by other networks to link to ARPANET (Kozierok, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Many people in this region face poverty every day and with the prospects grim, poverty is an ongoing issue. According to Merriam Webster, poverty is defined as the state of one who lacks a usual or socially acceptable amount of money or material possessions. Poverty is evident wherever you turn in these communities. Clay County is just one struggling area of the Appalachians. Here the median income is $22,296, barely above the poverty line. 12.7 % of Clay County s residents are unemployed, all scary statistics; since this is coal country (Lowrey, Annie).Without coal bringing in jobs like it used to, other counties in Eastern Kentucky have similar statistics that show a ...
