Structure For An Essay
Writing an essay on the topic of "Structure for an Essay" can be a challenging task, as it requires
a nuanced understanding of the components that make up a well-organized and cohesive piece
of writing. The difficulty lies in not just conveying information but doing so in a manner that is
logical, persuasive, and engaging for the reader.
To begin with, one must grapple with the intricacies of essay structure, considering the
introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. Crafting a compelling introduction that captures
the reader's attention while succinctly presenting the thesis statement can be a delicate balance.
The body paragraphs need to be well-organized, each containing a clear topic sentence,
supporting evidence, and transitions that guide the reader seamlessly through the argument.
Maintaining coherence and cohesion throughout the essay is crucial, requiring careful attention to
the flow of ideas and the logical progression of the argument.
Furthermore, the challenge extends to the art of incorporating evidence and examples
effectively, ensuring that they not only support the thesis but also contribute to the overall
persuasiveness of the essay. Balancing depth of analysis with brevity can be tricky, as a well-
structured essay should delve into the details without losing sight of the bigger picture.
The conclusion presents its own set of challenges, as it necessitates summarizing key points,
reinforcing the thesis, and leaving a lasting impression on the reader. Crafting a conclusion that
feels both conclusive and thought-provoking can be demanding.
In essence, writing an essay on the topic of essay structure demands a keen understanding of the
principles of organization, coherence, and persuasion. It requires not only a mastery of language
but also a thoughtful approach to presenting ideas in a way that captivates the reader.

Well , what can I say, Thankyou for those kind words Alan and I hope $20 was

I recently read somewhere that a survey had been conducted of things that people

standing up and making a speech in public.

Many people thought this day would never come. That I d be standing here making

The Real Estate Market Hit Rock Bottom
When the real estate market hit rock bottom, trust was broken between the lenders
and the borrowers. The lenders of financial institutions no longer trust approving
loans to less than perfect borrowers, while the borrows no longer trust lenders to
give them a home ownership deal that they can not only afford, but won t devalue
their property and leave their homes underwater in the future. The economy is
recovering, albeit slowly, yet both lenders and borrowers feel that trust has been
broken. How does each side fix the relationship in order to not only help the
economic growth of the real estatemarket, but to help borrowers become
homeowners? How can those who were once homeowners that fell victim to the
economic downturn find their... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The rent to own option may be an excellent opportunity if a millennial has a steady
job and can afford the rental payments on a simple house. This goes back to trust
between the lender and the borrower. The majority of millennials have rental history
from living off campus or renting their first few rental properties from their entry
level job, but have put off home ownership due to worrying about student loans or
other debt. The rent to own option would help with the economic recovery since this
group is now transitioning into adulthood. This option would also help many young
buyers become homeowners and possibly, second homeowners when they transition
into middle adulthood and senior citizens in a few decades. The Boomerang Buyers
have most likely re established themselves during the economic recovery. Although
this group may have credit cards, they may not have a major revolving loan (such as a
large line of credit or a car loan), which would make it harder for them to be
approved for a mortgage. Some of these home owners may have walked away from
their home if it were considered underwater and some may even have filed for
bankruptcy for a fresh start, so their credit scores may be considered fair by industry
standards. Although these buyers may have paid their bills on time for the last few
years, the industry still looks at their past since it stays on their credit report for
Comparing Wordsworth and Keats’ Romantic Poetry.
Essay
Comparing Wordsworth and Keats Romantic Poetry. Both Wordsworth and Keats
are romantic Poets, they express ideas on nature and send us the message to
respect it. They say we have to admire the beauty of nature in different ways.
Wordsworh uses simpler language in his poems wether to express simple or
complex ideas, by which we understand he aimed his poems to lower classes. Keats
instead, uses much more complex language to describe and express his ideas, so we
know he aimed his poems to the educated. During the romnatic period, poets would
mainly send out the message to admire nature and see the beauty in it. We should fine
joy in nature and nature should be our teacher. In the poem composed upon

He also uses exaggeration to create a greater impact on the reader here as this is the
first line of the poem. Keats and Wordworth personify in different ways from each
other in the two sonnets. While Wordsworth is more positive and sees beauty in
everything, Keats is more balanced ; as a result of this he makes the sea come
alive with a more evil and angry character. Alternating moments in which the sea is
calm and relaxed, and moments in which it seems evil and angry. Keats also makes
us think that the moon has power on the sea as its the moon which makes the sea
move; personification makes it seeem magical and powerful. Keats also mentions
Hecete who is an evil character that witches used to pray to. Here we see his poems
were difinitely aimed to a higher educated class, because a poor and uneducated
person couldn t ve understood references to sea nymphs or Hecete. In Daffodils
Wordsworth gives a romantic and sentimental tone all the way though. It is a
happy poem and it gives out a positive message; to celebrate nature. Its tone is also
personal and informal, which we know because Wordsworth uses often the word I
as it to mean me talking to you . Comparing daffodils to To Autumn we see that in
the second one Keats uses descriptive language and detail, and it s all positive to
emphasise the same message as Wordsworth; to
Comparing My Father And My Dad
When I was 10 years old I realized how alike and different me and my father really
are. Thinking to myself one day I was amazed on how different my dad and I really
are because dad was bald and he had a son with a full head of hair. My father also is
very blunt, he says whatever is on his mind while on the other hand I usually keep
my thoughts to myself. Though my dad and I are very different in many ways we
are more similar than different. My father loves the sport football and so do I! One
of our favorite activities that we do together is to watch the Michigan Wolverines and
Detroit Lions playevery Saturday and Sunday. We also love to cook and bake too.
Finally through the years that my father and I have spend together i have realized
how alike and different we both are.
It was a Ssaturday morning during the fall season and I was up early watching
some cartoons when I realized my dad was up. He was up and about doing his
usual Ssaturday chores when I notice something different about him. He looked
and acted nervous but at the same time he was super excited for something. That
something was a Michigan football game, which was gonna be played in a few
hours. I never really notice my dad act like this before, but when I did I knew
something was up. I then asked my dad, What s the big deal dad? and then he said,
It s the season opener for Michigan football! A few hours had passed and suddenly I
had heard my dad scream in joy at the TV. I then came running into the living
Who I Am I
Many obstacles in my life have made me who I am today. I was raised in West
Portsmouth, Ohio, a small town built off football and family. Life in a small town
seems to go by very slowly. It s all about what you make out of it. Certain events
and certain people have influenced me in a way that has made me a better person.
The character of one s self is built from all the hard times we go through in life, not
always off of the easy ones.
My father has had a major influence on me during the course of my life, thus far. My
dad was in the Marine Corps before I was born. He was always strict with me with
every aspect of my life and has always pushed me to be a better person. Growing up,
I would see him get up early and come home late from work. He is a very hard
working man and I hope I develop at least half of his working abilities. He has taught
me the majority of what I know now. He is a very smart man and it s great to have a
role model like that as my father.
My mother always played a more studious role in my life. She graduated from
Shawnee State University with a degree in nursing. She is a very smart woman and
has always pushed me to get good grades and go to college. I could honestly say that
I wouldn t have received half the good grades as I did if it wasn t for her always
checking up and being there for me with my schooling. She s always had a job as
well and she strives to make me a better person religiously and mentally day by day.
The motivation she brings to me
Obstacles In The Antonia
Things will be easy for you. But they will be hard for us (p. 111). These words,
spoken by ГЃntonia, the protagonist of the novel My ГЃntonia , give light to the
situation immigrants found themselves in after moving to the North America s
Western frontier. This novel reveals how immigrants in the late 1800s and early
1900s had to overcome numerous obstacles on the path towards The American Dream
which those native to the area did not have to face. In the late 1800s, America became
more attractive to immigrants as they considered its growing economic opportunity.
Many families and individuals packed up their belongings and undertook the life
changing journey to the western frontierof America to pursue the American Dream.

Immigrating to the frontier with nothing but the belongings they could carry, these
families would have to start from scratch. The novel portrays how immigrants of this
time started out behind as they were forced to take loans from whomever they
could to start their lives at their new homes. Mr. Shimerda makes a point to explain
to their new neighbors that in his former home, Bohemia, they were not poor, but
they became poor moving to America (p. 61). Immigrants struggled to have
enough money to begin their farms and often had to take out loans. A Russian
immigrant in the novel had to take out several loans to get by. These loans only
grew from interest as he was unable to pay the dues (p. 44). This resulted in him
only growing more and more in debt and being buried in mortgages. As most
immigrants were in debt, they had to continue to labor vigorously on their farms
and were not able to gain the skills or education many non immigrants were able to
get. This meant they would not be able to one day obtain a higher paying knowledge
job in the city. For example, ГЃntonia desired to attend school, but when asked about
it by her neighbor, she insisted she was too busy with farm work to attend (p. 97).
While ГЃntonia was unable to attend school, her neighbor, Jim, was able to. As
adults, Jim was a lawyer in the city while ГЃntonia remained a mother in the frontier.
This is just one example that unveils the different levels of upward mobility and how
they affected the immigrants in contrast to the

The House on Mango Street, is written by Sandra Cisneros. Sandra Cisneros was
born and grew up in Chicago. She was raised by her mother and father who were
both of Mexican descent. She grew up in a relatively large family; she was the
third child out of seven children. Cisneros childhood consisted of her growing up in
one of Chicago s Puerto Rican neighborhoods. As a child she also traveled back and
forth to Mexico with her family. Understanding Cisneros background is important for
understanding the novelbecause the main character in the novel, Esperanza, shares
many similarities and almost resembles Cisneros.

The family s new home is located in the center of a crowded Latino neighborhood
in Chicago, also very similar to the up bringing of Cisneros. Chicago is important
to the setting of the story and to understanding the underlining meanings, because
Chicago is a city where many of the poor areas are racially segregated. As soon as
she arriving to her new home Esperanza promises herself that she will someday
leave Mango Street and have a house all her own, a house which resembles the
American dream, white fence, and huge yard. During the year covered in the novel
Esperanza matures significantly, both in a sexual and emotional manner. The novel
as it is broken into chapters, short stories, almost charts and illustrates her life as
she makes friends, develops her first crush, and endures sexual assault. The
charting of Esperanza life is mainly done through the stories of many of Esperanza
s neighbors. The stories giving a full picture of the neighborhood and the life which
Esperanza is living on a day to day basis. It s interesting because many of the stories,
specially of the women in Esperanza s neighborhood, allows the reader to assume
that the lives of these women, which include abuse, male dominance, and lack of
freedom are all possible outcomes and paths of Esperanza s future. After moving to
the house, Esperanza quickly becomes friends with Lucy and Rachel, two girls
whom are also Mexican American and who live only across the street from her. Lucy,

The Political Ideology That Best Represents My Views
The political ideology that best represents my views is liberalism. Liberalism is an
ideology that emphasizes, cultural diversity, government programs for the needy,
public intervention in the economy, and individuals rights to a lifestyle based on
their own social and moral positions (Morone Kersh, 2014, p. 37). In other words,
liberalismpromotes government assistance for individuals in need as well as protect
every individual s rights.
One aspect of my life that has shaped my political views is my religious background.
I grew up in a Baptist family, and used to go to church regularly. As I got older, I
started going to church less and less because the things my pastor said made me feel
very uncomfortable. At the time, I did not understand why I felt so uncomfortable
and it was not until I got older that I realized why I felt the way I did. Majority of the
time, my pastor said things that had sexist and homophobic undertones. Despite being
in a holy place, I spent the duration of my time as a member of the church feeling
disconnected from everything, which eventually led to me breaking ties with the
church completely.
My family s financial background also helped in shaping my views. When I was
younger, my family received financial assistance from the government in the form
of CHIPs and food stamps. I was too young to remember how food stamps benefited
my family, but I do remember the many ways in which CHIPs helped us out. For
example, I grew up having terrible
The Effect Of Table Salt And Sugar On The Melting Rate Of
Ice
The Effect of Table Salt and Sugar on the Melting Rate of Ice
A common practice during the winter when roads ice over is to spread salt to melt
the ice. According to Senese (2015), the salt melts the ice by disrupting the
equilibrium between freezing and melting water molecules. The dissolved salt
molecules cause the capture of water molecules by ice for freezing to slow while not
affecting the rate of melting. This phenomenon is also referred to as freezing point
depression. As the molality, or the amount of solute (ex: salt) in a solution(ex: salt
water) is increased, the chemical potential of the solution decreases causing the
freezing point of the solution to also decrease (Echipare Harju, 2015). However,
one might ask why salt is the specific solute used to melt ice on roads, when
freezing point depression applies to many combinations of solutes and solvents. The
most obvious answer may be price, but another affordable and abundant solute also
exists: sugar. Which is faster at melting ice: salt or sugar?
Hypothesis
Of the frozen solutions, the solution containing table salt will melt in the shortest
amount of time, followed by the sugar solution, and then pure water.
Rationale
When adding a solute such as table salt or sugar to water, the resulting solution
undergoes freezing point depression. As a result of freezing point depression, the
solution results in an increase of entropy, which causes the boiling point of the
solution to increase and the freezing point to

while at the check outs. Mr. Brown also asked I practice on becoming faster on

There is no free rotation of the C=C bond because of the пЃ°пЂ bond. For a

The Marriage Ceremony Of India Essay
Just imagine the person you will spend the rest of your life with waiting for you at
the altar. Once you wed, life together begins. The phrase, Welcome to the rest of
your life , is often heard when a couple becomes engaged. Marriage is defined as the
union between two individuals that make a permanent and exclusive commitment to
each other (Kavya, CN and Pavan Kumar 531). Essentially, when to people get
married their hearts and mind unify as well. Historically, marriagewas a union with no
ceremony. The Bible mentions several couples being married but does not mention
any ceremony. The actual union is more important than having an enormous
celebration. However, as time went on, many cultures formed traditions that are part
of the marriage ceremony. India is one of the most populated countries in the world
and one of the oldest. Indian marriage celebrates Dharma. Dharma is essential
guidelines in order to live a fulfilling life and afterlife. The Southern Hindu wedding
lay emphasis on three essential values: happiness, harmony, and growth (Knott 10).
Each step of the marriage process outlines each value.
DATING, MATCH MAKING, AND LOVE COURTSHIP In Hinduism marriage is
considered the most sacred commitment. This is a commitment of the souls and
minds, not just physical bodies. Many Hindus enlist the help of someone called a
match maker. The match maker observes and examines all single individuals in the
village. Typically, the family sits down with the match maker and
Lightbulb Lab
Incandescent light bulbs use a wire filament heated to a high temperature in order to
give off light. The filament has an electrical current sent through it, and is protected
from oxidation by a glass bulb or a quartz bulb. On average, the incandescent bulb
uses 60 watts and costs 11 cents per kilowatt hour. On average, one bulb costs $1.
90% of what an incandescent light bulbproduces is heat, which wastes a lot of
electricity. Also, the lights produce sustainable levels of CO2. They have an average
lifespan of 1,200 hours.
CFL lightbulbs function by putting electricity through a tube containing argon, which
is twice more common than water vapor in the atmosphere, and mercury vapor. CFL
lightbulbs use an average of 14 watts, and cost an average

1.The Memory Industry (5 points).
Conduct a five forces analysis of the memory industry. You will need to rate each of
the five forces in this industry as high, medium or low and then explain briefly why
you selected this rating.
A)Threat of New Entrants(Barriers to entry) (MEDIUM)
Samsung, being a global company with net revenues of over $30 billion, had
established
an integrated supply chain with economies of scale and scope. New entrants were
required to come in on a very large scale for effectively minimizing costs, which the
Chinese companies succeeded in doing. Samsung had scale of economies in research

They provided a 5% discount to
high volume buyers as they did not depend very heavily on this industry for revenues.
There was a high cost associated with switching suppliers. As product quality was
primary in the semiconductor industry, trusted suppliers were given a premium and
switching a supplier meant putting the product quality as risk. There were no real
substitutes for DRAM and Flash memory and hence suppliers had a HIGH degree of
bargaining power.
C)Bargaining power of Buyers (HIGH)
Price conscious customers were a key element of the semi conductor industry. The
consumer base was highly fragmented and there was not a single Original Equipment
Manufacturer (OEM) that controlled more than 20% of the global PC market
share(2003). Fewer buyers purchased in higher volumes as they were offered
discounts
for the same. Due to pressure on PC producers by consumers to offer lower prices, the
manufacturers found it extremely hard to negotiate prices. Hence the bargaining
power of
buyers was extremely HIGH.
D)Threat of Substitute Products (LOW)
In 2005, there were no real substitutes that could effectively challenge DRAMs or
Flash
memory. Creating new types of memory was extremely costly and could take years to

African Americans With Psychotic Disorders
Over the years, the scientific literature has shown that African American patients are
more likely than other racial groups to receive a diagnosis of schizophrenia.
Determining the reasons for this disparity has been a challenging problem for
researchers. The debate is centered on the question of whether or not African
Americans are truly more susceptible to schizophreniathan these other groups;
conversely, the idea that African Americans are simply being diagnosed at higher
rates has persisted.
Strakowski et al. (1996) showed that African Americans with psychotic disorders are
more likely than Caucasian patients to report first rank symptoms of schizophrenia to
their treating clinician. These first rank symptoms refer to auditory ... Show more

For the expert consensus diagnoses, clinicians looked at the structured interviews and
medical records of the patients. Strakowski determined that there are minimal
differences in first rank symptoms between African American and Caucasian patients
when clinicians are blinded by ethnicity/race. There were 79 patients that met DSM
IV criteria for an affective disorder, 40 identifying themselves as Caucasian or White
and 39 identifying themselves as African American. The expert consensus diagnoses
revealed the presence of first rank symptoms in 55% of the White patients and 62% of
the African American patients. However, despite these minimal differences, it was
found that during the structural interviews, African American patients were more
likely to be diagnosed with a schizophrenia spectrum disorder than their white
counterparts (Strakowski et al., 1996). Therefore, the overdiagnosis of schizophrenia
cannot be attributed to the presence of these first rank symptoms.
It is highly important to explore whether or not clinician overdiagnosis of
schizophrenia extends to other minority groups. A later study by Gara et al. (2012)
expanded on Strakowski s work. Six hundred ten subjects (including a group of self
identified Latinos) exhibiting affective symptoms were recruited at 6 different sites,
which would allow for more generalizability in the
Cholera And The Plague Epidemic Analysis
Modern usage of epidemic to politicise or instil with urgency an agenda has made
the term too broad to define, but this quasi metaphorical use of the word represents a
new diversity in its definition. Epidemics create a window from which the social
historian has access to both the complexities of human nature and the political arenas
that control and disseminate information : an insight to political, cultural, religious
and social life that in other circumstances may elude the chroniclers of the past.
There is no categorical, empirical or quantifiable rule in defining epidemics; instead
they are subject to a series of accepted truisms that they have both a start and an end,
that they elicit large social response, that they fragment... Show more content on

There has been a tendency to study epidemics with harsher symptoms and higher
chances of death under the assumption that these fragment society and culture more
than mild epidemics like influenza. The main example of this would be the
countless studies of Cholera and the Plague, the former of which took the lives of
fifty per cent of its victims with intense rapidity (in nineteenth century Britain:
healthy in the morning, dead in the evening ), the latter imposing a mortality rate as
high as forty seven per cent (in the case of Newcastle 1636). However, the modern
usages of the word do not always fit into this model. The epidemic of obesity for
example is a medical topic, which has been termed an epidemic by using current
social dissatisfaction as much as effect on mortality. Rosenberg deconstructs
disease stating that it is a specific repertoire of verbal constructs reflecting medicine
s intellectual and institutional history , which would accept that obesity is a
disease. His statement that an epidemic is an event, not a trend, in need of a
common dramaturgy, a beginning and an end, and a mobilisation of community to
reaffirm social values , does not allow for the classification of obesity as an
epidemic. Here, it seems that epidemic has been motivated by society rather than
by a medical profession, making a definition yet more abstract; both Hansen on
homosexuality and MacDonald on suicide show that the political, religious, social
and cultural setting can cause a medicalisation of a behavioural issue. This in turn
can expand the ways in which we use the term epidemic: the medicalisation of
homosexuality and suicide share themes common in definitions of epidemics: both
elicit a social response, both are used to advance a political agenda, reveal areas of
the social fabric which do not appear clearly in everyday life , and both have

loneliness so frequently follows the actualization of love. He says, With this fearful

The Pros And Cons Of Chile
Chile has a free market oriented economic system whereas for prices for goods and
services are fixed by the law of supply and demand and all are allowed to reach
their equilibrium without intervention by the government or any other outside
bodies. In a free market system a buyer and a seller transact freely only when they
voluntarily agree on a price of a good or a service. This relationship of supply and
demandaffects the marketand the price of a product.
The law of supply and demand states that when there is high demand for a good or
service, the price of the good or service rises. If there is a large supply of a good or
service but not enough demand for the good or service, the price falls. Each
transaction involves a buyer and a seller. The seller places an offer for an item and
the buyer may accept or reject the offer. When there is a high demand for certain
good in a particular city or country and a lack of supply for a quality good, the prices
tend to rise as well. Also, when there is no demand for a certain good due to a weak

The Cultural Aspects Of Organizational Culture
Organizational Culture The Organizational Culture Theory analyzes the various
cultural aspects of organizations, most notably the five metaphorical performances,
the seven cultural markers, and the notion of culture being something an organization
is versus culture being something an organization has. The five metaphorical
performances are ritual, passion, sociality, politics, and enculturation. Rituals are
certain events that are done at certain times, such as getting coffee at a certain time
every day. Passion is how one describes their mundane work through stories that
indicate how they see it as just the opposite of boring. Sociality describes acts among
workers in the organization that can bring them together, such as joking or... Show

The is refers to how culture is perceived by regular employees, while the has refers to
how management wants the culture to be perceived by others. One study regarding
Organizational Culture is that of Raz (1999). For this study, Raz applied the
Organizational Culture Theory to describe the culture of Tokyo Disneyland (TDL)
and compare it to other amusement parks by conducting interviews with TDL
employees and conducting observations of the parks. For this study, the researcher
aimed to see if such cultural differences had any effects on the success of the parks;
therefore, she compared TDL to its local competitor, Korakuen, and also to the
American Disneylands. The researcher found that the success of TDL was due to its
ability to largely incorporate the Japanese culture and furthermore through its strict
adherence to a highly specific manual providing instructions to the running of the
park. Such a finding is significant in that it provides new insight into globalization
and shows that imperialism is not necessarily the only result, as TDL developed the
unique hybrid cultural position by incorporating both Japanese and American culture.
Raz s (1999) study is then important to Organizational Culture because it addresses
many of the performances and cultural markers. For instance, it addresses the
politics of TDL in describing the differences between full and part time employees.
Raz (1999) noted how full time employees were subject to a seniority

Essay about Catherine The Great
Sophie of Anhalf Zerbst was born on May 2, 1729 in the Germany city of Stettin
(Szczecin, now Poland). She was born of a minor German prince, into a society
that legally separated and isolated its female population. Though society was
against her she was recognized by her father for her great ability to learn and
remember concepts and ideas. After proving her ideas and abilities, she received a
formal education. In 1744, at the age of 14, she married the Grand Duke Peter of

strove to be as Russian as her mother in law. Sophie not only studied the Russian

she made connections with the smartest and most influential leaders in Russia.
Emperor Peter III and Catherine II came to power after the death of Empress
Elizabeth. Unfortunately, Peter was unable to handle ruling the Russian Empire. He
lacked common sense and alienated the Russian Court. Peter III further
compounded his mistakes by withdrawing from the war with Prussia in 1762.
According to most historians he was pro Prussian and was mentally immature. This,
coupled with the seizure of Church lands and disowning his son Paul, resulted in
Catherine s coup on June 28th, 1762 . Peter III was sent to prison where he died at
the hands of his captives, Catherine s lover Gregory Orlov and his family. Catherine
took the throne as Empress after the conspiracy. Her reign saw the high point of
Russian nobility.
Catherine ruled autocratically. She was a great political leader, an absolutist and
ruled as an enlightened monarch, referring to the historical period of Enlightenment
during the 18th and 19th centuries. Catherine was greatly influenced by her many

monarchs by the way she governed. She believed her purpose was to develop and

Elementary School s Gender Segregation Peeves Parents
On September 22, 2015 an article was published on Global News, which was
entitled Girl talk or career exploration ? Texas school s gender segregation peeves
parents. In this article, Patricia Kozicka discusses the controversial issue regarding
Borchardt Elementary School in Texas, in which students in grade four and five
were divided into separate classes based on their gender(Kozicka, 2015). According
to the article, it is reported that, at the beginning of this school year, females and
males would be placed in separate classes in which they would focus on different
curriculums (Kozicka, 2015). Specifically, that females would focus on confidence
and relationship building skills, whereas, males would focus on career and future
aspirations (Kozicka, 2015). The principle cleared up the issue with an email stating
that the class would be split based on gender, however, both would still receive the
same curriculum only with different schedules of the lessons and more emphasis on
particular topics (Kozicka, 2015). A stereotype is defined as the belief that certain
attributes are characteristic of members of a particular group, and stereotyping is
evident in the news summarized above (Wright, 2015). Splitting the classroom into
two distinct groups according to gender may be based on the stereotype that males
and females differ in terms of their ability. Therefore, the assumption of the gender
differences, lead to the concept and implementation that students should be

Rational Choice Theory
Rational choice theory originates from the oldest criminological school of thought
and criminological theorists, but the theory itself is new, only forming in the last
five decades. Ronald Clarke and Derek Cornish, using the work of previous
criminologists, put forth the rational choice perspective as a criminological theory
(Adler, Mueller, Laufer, 2016). This theory has its roots in the classical school of
thought in which individuals had the power to make decisions after weighing the
consequence of such actions (Adler, Mueller, Laufer, 2016). The work of Cesare
Beccaria in the late 1700 s cemented this theory s existence from the beginning of
criminology(Adler, Mueller, Laufer, 2016). Rational choice theory was also greatly
influenced by Jeremy Bentham and his idea of felicific calculus, in which a decision
to commit crimeis made after putting risk variables in an equation (Adler, Mueller,
Laufer, 2016). Bentham says all humans work this way, evaluating whether a crime
is worth committing (Adler, Mueller, Laufer, 2016). Bentham was inspired by
utilitarian theory, which states that individuals make decisions to maximize profits
and minimize pain (Adler, Mueller, Laufer, 2016). In addition, rational choice theory
is also based on traditional economic choice theory that states people will choose
what will appease their desires after weighing their options (Adler, Mueller, Laufer,
2016). This paper will examine the effectiveness of the application of rational
Against Mandatory Vaccines
Vaccines are known for preventing disease, but could they be more dangerous than
you know? Ever since the creation of vaccines people have been arguing over
whether their risks outweigh the benefits. Supporters of vaccines believe that
vaccines are safer than natural immunization and that the approval process will
eliminate all major side effects before it is released to the public. Advocates of
vaccinationthink that vaccines are still not safe, nor humane. They also believe that
mandatory vaccines infringe upon the freedom of people s bodies. It is also largely
disputed whether vaccines cause autism or not. While vaccines are considered safe
by many, others believe that there is more to vaccines than what we believe.

Immunization through vaccines produces the same immunity as natural infections
without having to withstand the disease itself. Some vaccines even offer a better
response than contracting the disease ( The Benefits of Vaccine). The Chickenpox
vaccine has been studied a lot involving the side effects in comparison to those of
contracting the disease. A child has a .25 percent chance of being hospitalized after
catching chickenpox while they would have a .05 percent chance of minor infection
after the vaccine . While death rarely occurs from either form of immunization, it
was far more likely to occur from the infection rather than the vaccine. Of course, the
risk is extremely small in both instances, but the slight edge of chickenpox is scary
enough for most parents to vaccinate their children. Shingles is something that many
people are scared of contracting as they get older. Although the chickenpox vaccine
has not been available for long enough to see how many vaccinated people develop
shingles at any point in their lives, the contraction of shingles in children post vaccine
has been studied. Shingles is 39 percent less likely to occur in children or teens who
were vaccinated than those who naturally transmitted the disease. (Moyer, Melinda
Wenner). Chickenpox is just one example of a vaccine being safer than the natural
infection. Although small, the difference in risk between the two ways of
immunization is often plenty to encourage parents to vaccinate their
Deterrence And Rational Choice Theory
Throughout the world crime is happening every single day. Yes, some people may
feel as if the deterrence theory does not work. Due to the fact that crime still
happens in the world. This essay will look at the support for the theory. As well as
the key problems for the theory. Next, it will explain some of the newest directions in
deterrence/rational choice theory. Finally, it will either agree/disagree with someone s
thought on deterrence and how it does not work and is a waste of time to study.
Deterrence and rational choice are two different things. Deterrence is used to punish
those who disobey and in return help deter others from committing the same crime.
While rational choice is when the individual thinks about the cost and the benefits
of them committing this crime (Cornish and Clarke, text CH 34). Deterrence and
rational choice tend to work pretty well on young adults. For example, if a teenager
sees his friends face time in prison for committing an act of violence. That may
deter them from committing the same crime or something similar. Reason is that
they possibly think of the pros and cons of each situation and how the effect it
could have on family. Also where deterrence and rational choice work could not be
define. Due to the fact that judges interpret the law, and do not have a across the
board rule and sentencing guideline to help them make a decision. Deterrence and
rational choice does have some problems. One problem is that there is no way to tell if
Gender Stereotypes Influence Of Female Suicides In
Literature
THESIS:
To what extent do gender stereotypes influence how female suicides are portrayed in
classic literature?
The question that I will be researching is: To what extent does do gender stereotypes
influence how women s suicides are portrayed? Females are often expected to be
submissive, dependent and youthful. These stereotypes are perpetuated in Western
literature that is dominated by white, Christian men; a woman who killed herself is
either deserted or fallen or the conventional aftermath of seduction and betrayal . As
humans, we have and innate fascination with this topic: Albert Camus once said
that there is but one truly serious philosophical problem and that is suicide .
Female suicides are stigmatized by society but it are romanticized in literature, art
and fashion. For an instance, ... Lucretia piercing her bare breast with a dagger, to
Cleopatra clutching the asp to her milky bosom, to Ophelia floating weightlessly in
a flower filled stream... . In some cases, when a woman kills herself, she is

aspects, whereas Western culture, especially Catholicism is morally opposed to this
act. Consequently I was coming up with examples of how Western culture
romanticizes suicide and the only ones I could come up were of female suicides;
Ophelia, Anna Karenina and Edna Pontellier. This made me wonder; are suicides
more prevalent for women in western literature than eastern literature (have a higher
ratio of men) by cause of the different stigmas around suicide? After some research I
realized that my hypothesis was wrong: female suicides are portrayed very similar
across cultures in

Pakicetus Research Paper
Pakicetus The Pakicetus was mainly a land animal, who is thought to have been a
carnivore. It had fangs that would greatly benefit it in hunting, killing and eating
its source of food. It had a long skull, which is one of its closest resemblance to
modern day whales along with an ear bone almost exclusive to modern whales.
While it mainly hunted its food on land, it would occasionally eat fish from nearby
sources of water. The Pakicetus lived along the Tethys Sea, it back feet where
adapted to be able to propel itself in water, while its front feet contrasted as its front
feet are better suited for moving on land.
п‚•Ambulocetus Similar to the whale the Ambulocetus was a large animalabout 11
feet long. It struggled to walk on land due to its legs being too weak to support its
very heavy body, weighing in at about 400 pounds. In the body of the Ambulocetus
its legs had yet to evolve into flippers like modern whales therefore, the whale was
able to exit a body of water and walk on land. It is likely that this early ancestor had
to pull itself forward rather than walking like its previous ancestor the Pakicetus.

Comparing Zeffirelli And Luhrmann s Film
In the two films of Romeo and Juliet, directors Zeffirelli and Luhrmann portray the
party scene in two very different ways. The directors change the way the characters
act, the costumes they wear, and the setting of the scene, to make each version of the
party scene different and unique. By changing the way that their characters act,
directors Zeffirelli and Luhrmann show the differences between their two films. In
the Zeffirelli version of Romeo and Juliet, the characters of Romeo, Juliet, and the
other party guests are very polite and proper. When Romeo first meets Juliet in the
Zeffirelli adaptation of the play, they are both more innocent than the Romeo and
Juliet portrayed in Luhrmann s film. They seem slightly tentative at first, but then

Mercutio is crazy, hyped up on drugs, as he dresses like a drag queen and becomes
the life of the party. Romeo takes some drugs as well, then meets Juliet, falling
madly in love with her angelic qualities. Romeo does not seem to truly love Juliet
at first sight in the Luhrmann film as he does in Zeffirelli s adaptation, but he still
has a great time with her at Capulet s party. The costumes portrayed in both
versions of Romeo and Juliet differ depending on how the director wanted to
display the characters. In the Zeffirelli film, the characters are shown in very
traditional attire, with very distinguishable red and blue outfits worn by the Capulet
and Montague families. Juliet is wearing a beautiful red gown, making her stand out
from the other plainly dressed guests at the masquerade, and showing that she is
affiliated with the Capulet family . Romeo, a Montague, is dressed in blue with the
mask of a lion, allowing him to stay hidden in the shadows of the room. In the
Luhrmann adaptation, the characters are placed in a costume party, where Juliet is
dressed as an angel, and Romeo as a knight in shining
A Book Call The Mythical Man Month
Man Month which represents the production effort a single persons in a 4 week
period. This is also known as labor month. To figure out the total hour of a man
month is done this way. A man day usually runs 8 hours a day for five days a week
which equals forty hours a week (8 hours a day * 5 days a week = 40 hours a
week). In a normal mouth you will have for weeks within that month, so we take
the forty hours a week and multiply that by four which will gives us one hundred
and sixty hours a month (40 hours a week * 4 = 160 hours a month) . Brooks s law
says that the possibility of measuring useful work in man months is a myth, and is
hence the centerpiece of the book. In 1975 Fred Brooks wrote a book call The

sometime complex that the new workers must become educated on the project work

contributing expressively yet. Every worker that join the team need to also integrate

  • 1. Structure For An Essay Writing an essay on the topic of "Structure for an Essay" can be a challenging task, as it requires a nuanced understanding of the components that make up a well-organized and cohesive piece of writing. The difficulty lies in not just conveying information but doing so in a manner that is logical, persuasive, and engaging for the reader. To begin with, one must grapple with the intricacies of essay structure, considering the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. Crafting a compelling introduction that captures the reader's attention while succinctly presenting the thesis statement can be a delicate balance. The body paragraphs need to be well-organized, each containing a clear topic sentence, supporting evidence, and transitions that guide the reader seamlessly through the argument. Maintaining coherence and cohesion throughout the essay is crucial, requiring careful attention to the flow of ideas and the logical progression of the argument. Furthermore, the challenge extends to the art of incorporating evidence and examples effectively, ensuring that they not only support the thesis but also contribute to the overall persuasiveness of the essay. Balancing depth of analysis with brevity can be tricky, as a well- structured essay should delve into the details without losing sight of the bigger picture. The conclusion presents its own set of challenges, as it necessitates summarizing key points, reinforcing the thesis, and leaving a lasting impression on the reader. Crafting a conclusion that feels both conclusive and thought-provoking can be demanding. In essence, writing an essay on the topic of essay structure demands a keen understanding of the principles of organization, coherence, and persuasion. It requires not only a mastery of language but also a thoughtful approach to presenting ideas in a way that captivates the reader. For those seeking assistance with similar essays or any other writing challenges, HelpWriting.net provides a platform where expert writers can be engaged to deliver tailored and high-quality content. This goes back to trust between the lender and the borrower. The majority of millennials have rental history from living off campus or renting their first few rental properties from their entry level job, but have put off home ownership due to worrying about student loans or other debt. The rent to own option would help with the economic recovery since this group is now transitioning into adulthood. This option would also help many young buyers become homeowners and possibly, second homeowners when they transition into middle adulthood and senior citizens in a few decades. The Boomerang Buyers have most likely re established themselves during the economic recovery. Although this group may have credit cards, they may not have a major revolving loan (such as a large line of credit or a car loan), which would make it harder for them to be approved for a mortgage. Some of these home owners may have walked away from their home if it were considered underwater and some may even have filed for bankruptcy for a fresh start, so their credit scores may be considered fair by industry standards. • 7. Comparing Wordsworth and Keats’ Romantic Poetry. Essay Comparing Wordsworth and Keats Romantic Poetry. Both Wordsworth and Keats are romantic Poets, they express ideas on nature and send us the message to respect it. They say we have to admire the beauty of nature in different ways. Wordsworh uses simpler language in his poems wether to express simple or complex ideas, by which we understand he aimed his poems to lower classes. Keats instead, uses much more complex language to describe and express his ideas, so we know he aimed his poems to the educated. During the romnatic period, poets would mainly send out the message to admire nature and see the beauty in it. We should fine joy in nature and nature should be our teacher. He also uses exaggeration to create a greater impact on the reader here as this is the first line of the poem. Keats and Wordworth personify in different ways from each other in the two sonnets. While Wordsworth is more positive and sees beauty in everything, Keats is more balanced ; as a result of this he makes the sea come alive with a more evil and angry character. Alternating moments in which the sea is calm and relaxed, and moments in which it seems evil and angry. Keats also makes us think that the moon has power on the sea as its the moon which makes the sea move; personification makes it seeem magical and powerful. Keats also mentions Hecete who is an evil character that witches used to pray to. Here we see his poems were difinitely aimed to a higher educated class, because a poor and uneducated person couldn t ve understood references to sea nymphs or Hecete. In Daffodils Wordsworth gives a romantic and sentimental tone all the way though. It is a happy poem and it gives out a positive message; to celebrate nature. Its tone is also personal and informal, which we know because Wordsworth uses often the word I as it to mean me talking to you . Comparing daffodils to To Autumn we see that in the second one Keats uses descriptive language and detail, and it s all positive to emphasise the same message as Wordsworth; to

My father also is very blunt, he says whatever is on his mind while on the other hand I usually keep my thoughts to myself. • 9. Who I Am I Many obstacles in my life have made me who I am today. I was raised in West Portsmouth, Ohio, a small town built off football and family. Life in a small town seems to go by very slowly. It s all about what you make out of it. Certain events and certain people have influenced me in a way that has made me a better person. The character of one s self is built from all the hard times we go through in life, not always off of the easy ones. My father has had a major influence on me during the course of my life, thus far. My dad was in the Marine Corps before I was born. He was always strict with me with every aspect of my life and has always pushed me to be a better person. Growing up, I would see him get up early and come home late from work. He is a very hard working man and I hope I develop at least half of his working abilities. He has taught me the majority of what I know now. He is a very smart man and it s great to have a role model like that as my father. My mother always played a more studious role in my life. She graduated from Shawnee State University with a degree in nursing. She is a very smart woman and has always pushed me to get good grades and go to college. I could honestly say that I wouldn t have received half the good grades as I did if it wasn t for her always checking up and being there for me with my schooling. She s always had a job as well and she strives to make me a better person religiously and mentally day by day. The motivation she brings to me

These words, spoken by ГЃntonia, the protagonist of the novel My ГЃntonia , give light to the situation immigrants found themselves in after moving to the North America s Western frontier. This novel reveals how immigrants in the late 1800s and early 1900s had to overcome numerous obstacles on the path towards The American Dream which those native to the area did not have to face. In the late 1800s, America became more attractive to immigrants as they considered its growing economic opportunity. The novel portrays how immigrants of this time started out behind as they were forced to take loans from whomever they could to start their lives at their new homes. Mr. Shimerda makes a point to explain to their new neighbors that in his former home, Bohemia, they were not poor, but they became poor moving to America (p. 61). Immigrants struggled to have enough money to begin their farms and often had to take out loans. A Russian immigrant in the novel had to take out several loans to get by. These loans only grew from interest as he was unable to pay the dues (p. 44). This resulted in him only growing more and more in debt and being buried in mortgages. As most immigrants were in debt, they had to continue to labor vigorously on their farms and were not able to gain the skills or education many non immigrants were able to get. This meant they would not be able to one day obtain a higher paying knowledge job in the city. For example, ГЃntonia desired to attend school, but when asked about it by her neighbor, she insisted she was too busy with farm work to attend (p. 97). While ГЃntonia was unable to attend school, her neighbor, Jim, was able to. As adults, Jim was a lawyer in the city while ГЃntonia remained a mother in the frontier. This is just one example that unveils the different levels of upward mobility and how they affected the immigrants in contrast to the

Liberalism is an ideology that emphasizes, cultural diversity, government programs for the needy, public intervention in the economy, and individuals rights to a lifestyle based on their own social and moral positions (Morone Kersh, 2014, p. 37). In other words, liberalismpromotes government assistance for individuals in need as well as protect every individual s rights. One aspect of my life that has shaped my political views is my religious background. I grew up in a Baptist family, and used to go to church regularly. As I got older, I started going to church less and less because the things my pastor said made me feel very uncomfortable. At the time, I did not understand why I felt so uncomfortable and it was not until I got older that I realized why I felt the way I did. Majority of the time, my pastor said things that had sexist and homophobic undertones. Despite being in a holy place, I spent the duration of my time as a member of the church feeling disconnected from everything, which eventually led to me breaking ties with the church completely. My family s financial background also helped in shaping my views. When I was younger, my family received financial assistance from the government in the form of CHIPs and food stamps. I was too young to remember how food stamps benefited my family, but I do remember the many ways in which CHIPs helped us out. For example, I grew up having terrible
  • 13. The Effect Of Table Salt And Sugar On The Melting Rate Of Ice The Effect of Table Salt and Sugar on the Melting Rate of Ice A common practice during the winter when roads ice over is to spread salt to melt the ice. According to Senese (2015), the salt melts the ice by disrupting the equilibrium between freezing and melting water molecules. The dissolved salt molecules cause the capture of water molecules by ice for freezing to slow while not affecting the rate of melting. This phenomenon is also referred to as freezing point depression. As the molality, or the amount of solute (ex: salt) in a solution(ex: salt water) is increased, the chemical potential of the solution decreases causing the freezing point of the solution to also decrease (Echipare Harju, 2015). However, one might ask why salt is the specific solute used to melt ice on roads, when freezing point depression applies to many combinations of solutes and solvents. The most obvious answer may be price, but another affordable and abundant solute also exists: sugar. Which is faster at melting ice: salt or sugar? Hypothesis Of the frozen solutions, the solution containing table salt will melt in the shortest amount of time, followed by the sugar solution, and then pure water. Rationale When adding a solute such as table salt or sugar to water, the resulting solution undergoes freezing point depression. As a result of freezing point depression, the solution results in an increase of entropy, which causes the boiling point of the solution to increase and the freezing point to

However, despite these minimal differences, it was found that during the structural interviews, African American patients were more likely to be diagnosed with a schizophrenia spectrum disorder than their white counterparts (Strakowski et al., 1996). Epidemics create a window from which the social historian has access to both the complexities of human nature and the political arenas that control and disseminate information : an insight to political, cultural, religious and social life that in other circumstances may elude the chroniclers of the past. There is no categorical, empirical or quantifiable rule in defining epidemics; instead they are subject to a series of accepted truisms that they have both a start and an end, that they elicit large social response, that they fragment... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There has been a tendency to study epidemics with harsher symptoms and higher chances of death under the assumption that these fragment society and culture more than mild epidemics like influenza. The main example of this would be the countless studies of Cholera and the Plague, the former of which took the lives of fifty per cent of its victims with intense rapidity (in nineteenth century Britain: healthy in the morning, dead in the evening ), the latter imposing a mortality rate as high as forty seven per cent (in the case of Newcastle 1636). However, the modern usages of the word do not always fit into this model. The epidemic of obesity for example is a medical topic, which has been termed an epidemic by using current social dissatisfaction as much as effect on mortality. Rosenberg deconstructs disease stating that it is a specific repertoire of verbal constructs reflecting medicine s intellectual and institutional history , which would accept that obesity is a disease. His statement that an epidemic is an event, not a trend, in need of a common dramaturgy, a beginning and an end, and a mobilisation of community to reaffirm social values , does not allow for the classification of obesity as an epidemic. Here, it seems that epidemic has been motivated by society rather than by a medical profession, making a definition yet more abstract; both Hansen on homosexuality and MacDonald on suicide show that the political, religious, social and cultural setting can cause a medicalisation of a behavioural issue. This in turn can expand the ways in which we use the term epidemic: the medicalisation of homosexuality and suicide share themes common in definitions of epidemics: both elicit a social response, both are used to advance a political agenda, reveal areas of the social fabric which do not appear clearly in everyday life , and both have

The Cultural Aspects Of Organizational Culture Organizational Culture The Organizational Culture Theory analyzes the various cultural aspects of organizations, most notably the five metaphorical performances, the seven cultural markers, and the notion of culture being something an organization is versus culture being something an organization has. The five metaphorical performances are ritual, passion, sociality, politics, and enculturation. Rituals are certain events that are done at certain times, such as getting coffee at a certain time every day. Passion is how one describes their mundane work through stories that indicate how they see it as just the opposite of boring. Sociality describes acts among workers in the organization that can bring them together, such as joking or... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The is refers to how culture is perceived by regular employees, while the has refers to how management wants the culture to be perceived by others. One study regarding Organizational Culture is that of Raz (1999). For this study, Raz applied the Organizational Culture Theory to describe the culture of Tokyo Disneyland (TDL) and compare it to other amusement parks by conducting interviews with TDL employees and conducting observations of the parks. For this study, the researcher aimed to see if such cultural differences had any effects on the success of the parks; therefore, she compared TDL to its local competitor, Korakuen, and also to the American Disneylands. The researcher found that the success of TDL was due to its ability to largely incorporate the Japanese culture and furthermore through its strict adherence to a highly specific manual providing instructions to the running of the park. Such a finding is significant in that it provides new insight into globalization and shows that imperialism is not necessarily the only result, as TDL developed the unique hybrid cultural position by incorporating both Japanese and American culture. Raz s (1999) study is then important to Organizational Culture because it addresses many of the performances and cultural markers. For instance, it addresses the politics of TDL in describing the differences between full and part time employees. Raz (1999) noted how full time employees were subject to a seniority

In 1744, at the age of 14, she married the Grand Duke Peter of Holstein who was heir to the Russian throne . Although Sophie was German she strove to be as Russian as her mother in law. He lacked common sense and alienated the Russian Court. Peter III further compounded his mistakes by withdrawing from the war with Prussia in 1762. According to most historians he was pro Prussian and was mentally immature. This, coupled with the seizure of Church lands and disowning his son Paul, resulted in Catherine s coup on June 28th, 1762 . • 38. Elementary School s Gender Segregation Peeves Parents On September 22, 2015 an article was published on Global News, which was entitled Girl talk or career exploration ? Texas school s gender segregation peeves parents. In this article, Patricia Kozicka discusses the controversial issue regarding Borchardt Elementary School in Texas, in which students in grade four and five were divided into separate classes based on their gender(Kozicka, 2015). According to the article, it is reported that, at the beginning of this school year, females and males would be placed in separate classes in which they would focus on different curriculums (Kozicka, 2015). Specifically, that females would focus on confidence and relationship building skills, whereas, males would focus on career and future aspirations (Kozicka, 2015). The principle cleared up the issue with an email stating that the class would be split based on gender, however, both would still receive the same curriculum only with different schedules of the lessons and more emphasis on particular topics (Kozicka, 2015). A stereotype is defined as the belief that certain attributes are characteristic of members of a particular group, and stereotyping is evident in the news summarized above (Wright, 2015). Splitting the classroom into two distinct groups according to gender may be based on the stereotype that males and females differ in terms of their ability. Therefore, the assumption of the gender differences, lead to the concept and implementation that students should be

  • 40. Rational Choice Theory Rational choice theory originates from the oldest criminological school of thought and criminological theorists, but the theory itself is new, only forming in the last five decades. Ronald Clarke and Derek Cornish, using the work of previous criminologists, put forth the rational choice perspective as a criminological theory (Adler, Mueller, Laufer, 2016). This theory has its roots in the classical school of thought in which individuals had the power to make decisions after weighing the consequence of such actions (Adler, Mueller, Laufer, 2016). The work of Cesare Beccaria in the late 1700 s cemented this theory s existence from the beginning of criminology(Adler, Mueller, Laufer, 2016). Rational choice theory was also greatly influenced by Jeremy Bentham and his idea of felicific calculus, in which a decision to commit crimeis made after putting risk variables in an equation (Adler, Mueller, Laufer, 2016). Bentham says all humans work this way, evaluating whether a crime is worth committing (Adler, Mueller, Laufer, 2016). Bentham was inspired by utilitarian theory, which states that individuals make decisions to maximize profits and minimize pain (Adler, Mueller, Laufer, 2016). In addition, rational choice theory is also based on traditional economic choice theory that states people will choose what will appease their desires after weighing their options (Adler, Mueller, Laufer, 2016). This paper will examine the effectiveness of the application of rational

Some vaccines even offer a better response than contracting the disease ( The Benefits of Vaccine). The Chickenpox vaccine has been studied a lot involving the side effects in comparison to those of contracting the disease. A child has a .25 percent chance of being hospitalized after catching chickenpox while they would have a .05 percent chance of minor infection after the vaccine . While death rarely occurs from either form of immunization, it was far more likely to occur from the infection rather than the vaccine. Of course, the risk is extremely small in both instances, but the slight edge of chickenpox is scary enough for most parents to vaccinate their children. Shingles is something that many people are scared of contracting as they get older. Although the chickenpox vaccine has not been available for long enough to see how many vaccinated people develop shingles at any point in their lives, the contraction of shingles in children post vaccine has been studied. Shingles is 39 percent less likely to occur in children or teens who were vaccinated than those who naturally transmitted the disease. (Moyer, Melinda Wenner). Chickenpox is just one example of a vaccine being safer than the natural infection. Although small, the difference in risk between the two ways of immunization is often plenty to encourage parents to vaccinate their
  • 42. Deterrence And Rational Choice Theory Throughout the world crime is happening every single day. Yes, some people may feel as if the deterrence theory does not work. Due to the fact that crime still happens in the world. This essay will look at the support for the theory. As well as the key problems for the theory. Next, it will explain some of the newest directions in deterrence/rational choice theory. Finally, it will either agree/disagree with someone s thought on deterrence and how it does not work and is a waste of time to study. Deterrence and rational choice are two different things. Deterrence is used to punish those who disobey and in return help deter others from committing the same crime. While rational choice is when the individual thinks about the cost and the benefits of them committing this crime (Cornish and Clarke, text CH 34). Deterrence and rational choice tend to work pretty well on young adults. For example, if a teenager sees his friends face time in prison for committing an act of violence. That may deter them from committing the same crime or something similar. Reason is that they possibly think of the pros and cons of each situation and how the effect it could have on family. Also where deterrence and rational choice work could not be define. Due to the fact that judges interpret the law, and do not have a across the board rule and sentencing guideline to help them make a decision. Deterrence and rational choice does have some problems. One problem is that there is no way to tell if
