The Crusades Effects Essay
There were several effects of the Crusades on the European continent. To summary, the European
continent was mainly affect by the in ideology in religion and king s power.
From the Crusader s point of view, Islam and Judaism should be replaces by Christianity totally even
with the help of violence. In this way, the Crusaders began their persecution against the Jews
throughout the European continent. When Jerusalem was finally caught, the Muslim and Jewish
people were killed in bulk. Later, the slaughter against Muslim and Jews was utilized as an excuse to
indict the Roman Catholic Church in the period of Protestant Reformation. As a result of this, many
people in the European began to lose faith in the Roman Catholic Church since it was no longer
regarded as a moral authority.[1] The violence carried out by the Christians was considered to be
brutal. With the increasing scale of influence of the membership within European continent, there was
also an increase in the loyalty to the church. Consequently, the religious tolerance got low, which
made the Jewish in European become an obvious target. The Jewish population was persecuted in the
European continent and it was always the case that the Jewish population would get ... Show more

It was often the case that in the battle, some nobles would die without leaving an heir. In this case, it
was the king who had the right to get the land left by the nobles. The kings collected taxes from the
nobles to pay the Crusades. To pay this tax, some nobles would choose to sell their land and there
were less serfs and peasants needed as a result. In this way, the peasants could feel free to leave, which
was a chance that they never had before.[2] During that period, a lot of young men would choose to
take part in the Crusade. When a men who had land died in the Crusade, the king then was allowed to

Salton Sea Case Study
The terminal lake ecosystem of the Salton Sea is located in the southeastern corner of California, only
30 miles from the U.S. Mexico border (Tetra Tech 2000). The Salton Sea lies at a nexus of bi national
water supply/quality issues.
The Sea faces an uncertain future due to water delivery reductions imposed by the Interstate and
Federal Quantification Settlement Agreement (QSA) of 2003 (Miles et al. 2009). Signed in 2003, the
QSA was a deal between the U.S. Department of the Interior, California, and various water agencies
(e.g., Imperial Irrigation District (IID) and the San Diego County Water Authority (SDCWA)) that
placed California on a Colorado River water diet while transferring some of the river s flow to San
Diego and other cities

The Prosecutors Firearm Identification Testimony
The prosecutors firearm identification testimony for the case was poorly executed which allowed
Waite to reexamine the bullets from the case and what he found was the rifling markings did not
match up with the bullets that were test fired from Steielow s gun. They determined that Stielow was
not guilty due to the conclusion that his firearm was not used in the crime. Following this case Waite
was inspired to develop a systematic process for documenting ballistics information to avoid making
mistakes in later cases. After this Waite began to travel to different firearm manufacturers to document
the process of creating the firearms to study the different characteristics in each. As firearm production
began to become more advance and higher quality in the assembly process it opened more ways for
investigators to attack firearm crimes. The range of evidence that can be recovered from a firearm
involved case can be as small as a bullet fragment that holds the rifling markings from the firearm to
the firearm itself. The firearm itself is a highly anticipated form of evidence that investigators will
search for because of the information it can possess. The firearm itself can hold many different forms
of evidence such as the firearm serial number. In 1968 the United States passed the Gun Control Act,
which obligates that all guns manufactured or imported to the USA must obtain a serial number ( Gun
Control Act | ATF , 2016). If the firearm possesses a serial number it will allow

An Analysis Of The Torso Of Aphrodite
During my visit to the Tampa Museum of Art, I observed and viewed various pieces from The
Classical World exhibit. While I observed numerous works, I was drawn to a specific piece due to its
uniqueness when compared to the other pieces in the exhibit. In this paper, I will be describing The
Torso of Aphrodite, using my own viewpoints and the elements of formal art analysis, in order to
explain the uniqueness when compared to other pieces in The Classical World exhibit.
The Torso of Aphrodite was constructed in the 1st century A.D. and is made entirely of marble. The
torso used to belong to a life sized version statue of The Greek goddess of love Aphrodite. From the
moment I saw this piece, I knew I was attracted to it in a deeper way. It ... Show more content on

As the robe simultaneously conceals and reveals, it blends nicely into the lower part of her torso. Her
body is proportioned smoothly, with no areas of obvious fault or imperfection. I think having those
sensual characteristics adds to her overall beauty.
This sculpture is comprised of marble, and due to its large size it was easier for me to develop an
impression about the piece because I can focus on specific parts in more detail. To understand the
piece, a very visual and detailed perspective is needed. Judging by the way the thighs are represented,
it appears as though she is striking a contrapposto pose, which makes her appear static. She has most
of her weight shifted on her left leg, but not all of it The focal point of this piece I believe is her robe.
It skillfully falls down her left side, while leaving other parts exposed, drawing the main attention of
this piece. Few different types of shapes are displayed, except the shape of her legs and the form of the
robe. The physical texture was smooth throughout the entire piece, partly due to the material it is made
of. There is only this one texture, as her robe and body parts all feel the same.
The title of this piece is Torso of Aphrodite/Venus . This piece was discovered outside of Rome in
1771. Afterwards, it was purchased by a wealthy English collector, who displayed it in his home.
Today, the piece resides at the

Ministry Burnout
A Description and Scope of the Issue of Ministry Burnout
The Scope of the Issue of Burnout Ministry burnout is a problem for the minister who is burned out,
the family of the minister, and the churches they serve. Adding to the problem is, There are still many
in the churches who refuse to recognize that there is a problem with what is today called clergy
burnout (Randall, 2013, p. 334). When a church will not acknowledge there is a potential problem, the
minister will be left to deal with the shame and pain of suffering burnout. Burnout is a psychological
condition that results from chronic stress related to working with people (Milner, 2007, p. 9). The
statistics are alarming. Christian Ministers are leaving the ministry in droves. According to statistics
gathered by J.R. Briggs, 1,500 pastors leave the ministry for good each month because of burnout or
conflict in the church they serve (cited in Briggs, 2014). According to the data gathered by Brigg
(2014), that means that over 18,000 pastors leave the ministry each year because of burnout and
conflict. Briggs (2014) also found that 80 percent of pastors and 84 percent of pastors spouses are
discouraged in their roles. Statistics further reveal that for every 20 pastors who go into ministry, only
one retires from ministry (cited in Briggs, 2014). To further expose ... Show more content on

and this failure to cope can be manifested in a number of ways, including low morale, impaired

the one suffering from burnout going from church to church in hopes a new beginning, when on truth,

Gender Trouble Of Judith Butler
The book Gender Trouble of Judith Butler, distributed in 1990, required another method for taking a
gander at sex and sexual orientation. Instead of the settled manly/female sexual orientation binary,
Butler contended that gender ought to be seen as liquid (fluid), variable; the way we act at various
times and in various circumstances as opposed to who we are. Butler proposed that by deconstructing
the way we consider gender we may move towards another fairness where individuals are not
confined by manly or female sexual orientation parts. Like women s activists before her, Butler is
worried with achieving more prominent uniformity between men and women, yet her accentuation is
distinctive, just like her proposed method for activity. A number of Butler s contentions and thoughts
are fascinating and convincing however she additionally has pundits who see a few constraints with
her work.
Butler starts by taking a gander at the issues of characterizing woman . In the past woman s rights has
considered ladies to be its subjects for political representation. Butler, nonetheless, contends that we
can t consider women to be a bound together homogenous gathering subsequent to each woman is a
one of a kind person. Women are not a unified gathering subsequent to there are a considerable
number of divisive contrasts between them. This is a substantial point to make as it would appear to be
improbable that a neediness stricken assembly line laborer woman from the Third World

Explore How Shakespeare Examines the Themes If Jealousy...
Explore how Shakespeare examines the themes if jealousy and deception in Othello the play and
Othello the character. Sana Thomas
Jealousy and Deception are both continuous themes running through out Shakespeare s Othello.
Indeed, it is jealousy that provides the fuel for the plot and deception that leads to the classic downfall
of the hero as is common in Shakespeare tragedies. However, it is a theme of hate that the play opens.
It is a hate of inveterate anger. It is a hate that is bound up with envy hanging on a strained thread
waiting to snap. In The Tragedy of Othello, William Shakespeare tells the tale of the noble Moor
whose honour and innocence bring about his downfall. Shakespeare writes of the power of jealousy, ...

The play opens in the middle of an argument. The deception begins when he blatantly lies to
Brabantio, telling him that Othello has bewitched his daughter into marrying him: an old black ram Is
tupping your white ewe (1.1.89) . The language Iago uses to address Brabantio here is vulgar and
discourteous. The fact that he takes no heed that Brabantio is of a higher status than him is intended to
provoke and aggravate him, so that he will impart his rage when confronting Othello. This confirms
the audience s suspicion of Iago being cold, conniving and calculated.
As part of the audience, I believe that the handkerchief introduced in Act 3 symbolizes deceit for
which it is used. It is this handkerchief Othello had given Desdemona as a wedding present and a
token of the couple s eternal fidelity that acts as a catalyst to the unpleasant and poignant changes in
the play: the napkin is too little (3.3.287) . Othello demands ocular proof (3.3.360) from Iago that his
wife Desdemona was committing adultery with Cassio: Villain, be sure to prove my love a whore
(3.3.360) , Does Othello s insistence on proof suggest that this jealous husband is a nobler man?
Iago must only deceive Othello by telling him that the handkerchief he so lovingly gave his wife is not
in his wife s possession but in Cassio s: a hankerchief/did I see Cassio wipe his beard with (3.3.440).
The fact that she lost it inadvertently and was unable to produce it when Othello demanded her to

Hills Like White Elephants, a Theme Analysis Essay
Ernest Hemmingway uses time, place, and symbolism in Hills like White Elephants to intensify the
central dilemma in a story about a man and a woman deciding on whether to go through with an
abortion. Although a literal reading of the title may not seem to have any relation to the story, the title
is rich in implications. Critics suggest that Hills refers to the shape of a woman s stomach when
pregnant, and Webster s 21st Century Dictionary defines white elephant as: [An] awkward, useless
possession. The term is also defined in Webster s as an item that is worthless to some but priceless to
others. According to Victor Lindsey, the child in the story is a white elephant in the view of the man,
who is trying to convince the girl to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The train depot is surrounded on both sides by fields: one side with trees and fields of grain, and the
other contains nothing but dust (Hemingway 324). The two sides of the train tracks represent the
choice Jig will have to face between pregnancy and abortion.
Every time the man or the woman try to change the subject and avoid talking about the abortion, they
end up saying something that refers to or alludes to the baby or the abortion. The woman suggests that
the hills look like white elephants (324), which the man fails to acknowledge. The lack of clear
communication between the two causes tension and arguments at every turn. When the woman agrees
sarcastically that the man has never seen white elephants, he says, Just because you say I wouldn t
have doesn t prove anything (324). The woman is clearly annoyed at the insensitivity of the man s
negative feelings toward her pregnancy. For her, the baby is a priceless treasure, but for him it is a
worthless fetus.
Time and place are very significant in the story. The author describes where the train is boarded and
where it is headed to, but he never tells the reader where the man and woman are at the moment.
Hemingway notes that the train stopped at this junction for two minutes and went on to Madrid (324).
Baker argues that this limited time symbolizes the time she has to have the abortion (Baker, 145).

Summary Of Jim Casy A Journey To California
The story begins with Tom Joad hitchhiking with a truck driver, to whom he reveals that he has been
released on parole from the state penitentiary. While walking along a desolate road, he encounters a
man named Jim Casy who is a preacher Tom remembers from his childhood. Casy explains to Tom
why he is no longer a preacher because he has supposedly lost his dosage of the Holy Spirit. He still
believes in the Holy Spirit, but not consequently the traditional expectations mandated by organized
religion. Instead, Casy argues, the Holy Spirit is love not just the love of God or Jesus, but the love of
all mankind.
Tom invites Casy to join him on his walk home, only to find it completely deserted. A man named
Muley Graves, who is one of the family s neighbors, tells Tom that his family has been forced off of
their land by the bank, which owns the land. The Joads have temporarily moved in with his Uncle
John and are preparing to leave for California to search for work. The three men spend the night in a
cave near the abandoned farm and travel to Uncle John s house the next morning.
The entire family is preparing for the long journey ahead to California when Tom and Casy arrive.
Casy asks the Joads if he can travel west with them and they agree to take him in the hopes of a
potential blessing. Once all of their possessions have been sold to junkyards and used car lots,
everyone except for Granpa Joad is anxious to begin the journey. As they begin pack the truck Granpa

Alfred Tennyson s The Charge Of The Light Brigade
Have you ever read the poem The Charge of the Light Brigade by Alfred Tennyson? This outstanding
poem was written in 1854 concerning the Battle of Balaclava. Tennyson writes about the 600 British
soldiers who followed commands and ended up surrounded by Russian troops on three sides. Even
though the result of this battle was devastating, we can learn three great attributes from these
courageous soldiers obedience, bravery, and determination. We acknowledge these soldiers for their
example of obedience. In the poem we read, Theirs not to make reply,| theirs not to reason why,| theirs
but to do or die. They did not even fight with the chief who gave them the orders even though they
thought it to be wrong. Instead the troops headed on to

Differences Between Emily Dickinson And Bukowski
Bukowski was influenced by many writers before and around his time as he was published in the mid
to late nineties. Those who influenced him include Albert Camus, E. E. Cummings, John Fante, Henry
Miller, and some will argue Emily Dickinson. Both writers, Dickinson and Bukowski, touch upon
death, writing from their graves, and saving the world through the sincerity of one person. Dickinson s
poem If I can stop one heart from breaking mirrors one of Bukowski s most famous quotes You begin
saving the world by saving one person at a time; all else is grandiose romanticism or politics. His
simple of idea that universal peace begins with one soul mimics the message in Dickinson s verse.
If I can stop one heart from breaking,
I shall not live in vain;
If I can ease one life the aching,
Or cool one pain,
Or help one fainting robin
Unto his nest again,
I shall not live in vain (Dickinson).
Words synonymous with each other not only shows the similarity in writing topics, but also in the
thought process for both writers. Both their moral compasses lead to the same conclusion, whether it
is a thought they act on or simply have. The similarities between these two go one further in their
darker poetry. Emily Dickinson famously writes many poems about death and dying as does Charles
Bukowski. Two poems of theirs are particularly similar. Bukowski s Alone with Everybody delivers a
similar message about death as Dickinson s Because I could not stop for death

What Is The Epilogue To Fodo s Hobbit
There once lived a hobbit Frodo Baggins, who lived in a beautiful hobbit hole in the Shire. Frodo was
a peaceful hobbit at the time, but not for long...
Many years ago, he helped destroy Mordor, a great and powerful realm with millions of orcs. At that
time, Frodo was a ring bearer, and fought through all of Mordor s challenges, barely making it out
alive. His journey was to travel to Mount Doom, and drop the Ring of Power into the mountain s lava.
The ring obtained immense power, and brought turmoil to all of Middle Earth. The only way to ensure
the safety of the people, was to destroy the ring for good. Frodo was successful, and saved all of the
living things in the world.
When Frodo arrived back to the Shire, a year later, he was at peace.
Frodo had awakened one morning, and was eager to go to his living room. Hello Frodo, Lacqua read

After the second round was over, all of them quickly went over to Thorin III, hoping he would still be

and once it was completed, Thorin III was nothing but ash. So Frodo, an Lacqua had spread his ashes

The Four Noble Truths Of Buddhism And Nirvana
The Buddhist religion focuses on enlightenment, human suffering, the Four Noble Truths of
Buddhism, and Nirvana. The first, and most important key when understanding the path of
enlightenment is that understanding Buddha s teachings known as the Four Noble Truths. The
Buddhist religion focuses on the Four Noble Truths, which if followed guarantees the cure for human
suffering. I personally think that the Four Noble Truths represent a good approach to life because
human suffering comes from the choices we make in life and how we choose to live. The Four Noble
Truths give a good guidance towards happiness by educating you with the right aspirations. I like the

There is no self separable form a non self. In the West this is misunderstood because the meaning of
self is not an essence or entity, is taken as self does not exist at all by people who have not imagined
any to his/her scheme of existence than entities. Traditional Western concept of self believe that every
person is entitled to one, and that it it s the self which acts or experiences. The notion of self
contributes to the suffering of human beings in that human project reality onto an illusory Ego for the
purpose of gratification. The misery of life is cause by self centeredness and the constant desire to
satisfy one s own needs. With that being said ego desire is the very root of all evil, including greed,
lust, hatred, lying, deceit, and crime. Eliminating the ego puts an end to unhappiness. Self
concentration does not allow the pursuit of truth and righteousness. Also, one s addictions contributes
to the suffering of humans in that it sets people for self destruction. Such addictions cause people to
lose everything that is significant to them which leads to suffering. People are free to make choices but

How Did The Rise And Spread Of Islam
Islam is one of the oldest and the second largest religions today, coming second to Christianity. The
religion is believed to derive mostly from the teachings of the prophet Muhammad. He was also
believed to be the last prophet. Islam began in about 600 AD, around the time Muhammad was
instructed to teach the word of God in Mecca. When Muhammad was about forty years of age, he
began having visions and would also hear voices. Often enough, he would find clarity by meditating
in a cave at Mount Hira (near Mecca). One day as he was meditating, he saw a light and felt
sequestered. It was the Archangel Gabriel speaking to him, revealing the first verse. This verse was the
first of many that would later become the basis of the Quran. During the pre Islamic Arabian
Peninsula, it was believed that there were multiple Gods but these revelations contradicted that belief;
proving that there existed only one God. Like other prophets, Muhammad was chosen to be the
messenger of the word of God. Due to the animosity he received, Muhammad left Mecca and went to
Medina. While there, he would still receive divine revelations and began to build an expanding
community full of supporters and followers of the new faith. After years of violence due to the
conflicting religions, Mecca surrendered. Muhammad and his followers returned to Mecca after that
and destroyed the pagan idols while spreading the new faith and belief in one God. After the holy Qur

Syria s Civil War
Syria s Civil War
The civil war going on in Syria has been a topic of much discussion. What began as peaceful protests
has turned into brutal civil war with over 100,000 deaths and counting. The images of men, women,
and children being gassed or shot to death are just horrible to watch and hard to bear. With all these
casualties and the U.S government expects to make a series of targeted military strikes against the
Syrian government?
Syria is a country in the Middle East, along the eastern shore of the Mediterranean Sea. Syria is very
diverse, ethnically and religiously. The country s population is divided among Sunni Arabs (a little
less than 60 percent of the population); Christians (about 10 12 percent); Alawites, a Shiite offshoot ...

Military intervention will only intensify the violence, not reduce it. As the veteran foreign
correspondent and Syria expert Patrick Seale has written: The only way to prevent a full scale civil
war in Syria . . . is to demilitarize the conflict and bring maximum pressure on both sides to negotiate
(qtd. in Hasan).
The United States needs a new approach, one that starts with a more diplomatic solution aimed at
pushing all sides to the negotiating table. The only way the U.S can resolve this crisis is by working
together with the Syrian government and getting other countries to exert their influence and persuade
the Syrian government to turn in their enormous stockpile of chemical weapons.
The idea of military intervention will just increase the casualties in both sides. For example, after
NATO s air assault on Yugoslavia kicked off in March 1999, the number of civilian casualties and
refugees in Kosovo went up, not down. In Iraq and Afghanistan, tens of thousands of innocents lost
their lives at the hands of western troops as well as home grown terrorists (Hasan). Furthermore, in
their book Why Civil Resistance Works , the US academics Erica Chenoweth and Maria J Stephan
challenge the conventional wisdom that the use of force against heavily armed opponents is the most
effective way for resistance groups to achieve their aims. They discovered that the historical record

Taking a Look at Interpersonal Attraction
Interpersonal attraction embodies feelings of love, like, dislike, hate, lust and admiration. It refers to
positive and negative feelings towards one another. Since most people desire relationships of some
form, be it platonic friendship or romance, these are common essentials, which make interpersonal
attraction a major topic within social psychology. Since it is such an important topic, this essay will
discuss what attraction is and what determines it. Social traits are important aspects in attraction and
according to Hume (1757), attraction is biased since it is in the eye of the beholder . However,
researchers have defined attraction objectively through a variety of social factors and theories and
answered the question what draws us into these relationships ? What makes another person attractive ?
Researchers have identified five factors that are important in determining whether we are likely to find
another person attractive. These factors are physical attractiveness, proximity, pheromones, mutual
attraction or liking, similarity or complementarity of interest and beliefs.
I chose this topic because of my current relationship. I am the kind of girl who likes to go into
relationships with friends I have known for a long time but all of that suddenly changed when I met
my boyfriend. I have to admit, he is very attractive. Everybody that has seen him knows that he is very
attractive but that was not what drew me to him so the question is why did I like him ? We met at

Robin Hood Case Study
What problems does Robin Hood have? What issues need to be addressed? Robin Hood is facing
numerous problems and issues, but I think the most pressing problem is the fact that the band of
Merrymen has far outgrown the available resources in Sherwood Forest. Robin Hood s faith in
succeeding by strength in numbers is quickly becoming a contributor to their downfall. Income is low
at this point as well, so purchasing supplies, whether near or far, will soon become impossible. If the

group itself is unorganized and is lacking sufficient leadership. The issue of the group s decline in

The Merrymen are well known even in far reaching areas of England.
The men have a strong willingness to serve.
Weaknesses:
Vigilance is quickly declining.
Their resources are declining as well with no plan to replace or renew them.
There is no real organization or leadership within the band of men.
Revenues are declining and there is no plan in place for alternative sources of income.
There is a lack of utilization of the men s skills other than archery.
There is also a significant lack of skill development in other areas.
The newer recruits to the campaign are strangers and could potentially be the Sheriff s spies.
Opportunities:
Prince John and the Sheriff are not well liked by the people. Their removal is less likely to be
contested by many.
The barons are beginning to dispute Prince John s claim to the throne.
Some barons are already conspiring to return King Richard from imprisonment in Austria. If
successfully executed, the Sheriff would no longer have support from Prince John as he would no
longer be in power.
Robin Hood s recruits from more remote areas of England may have contacts and resources previously
unavailable to the band.
Threats:
The Sheriff is becoming more organized and amassing more money.
Wealthy travelers are avoiding the forest due to the high cost of their goods being confiscated.
Robin s competitor (the Sheriff) has strong political connections.

/2016 Franklinton, a neighborhood on the outskirts of Columbus, Ohio, has faced issues since its first

location and lower socioeconomic status, it has not been able to keep up with the development of
Columbus. In the more recent years, great efforts have been put in motion to increase the quality and
quantity of life in Franklinton. We will explore the redevelopment of Franklinton and the issues it
faces with food insecurity.
The city of Columbus is a wonderful place, bustling with innovation but maintaining a healthy
population. The city runs in a very respectable fashion. Columbus is big enough to be a city, while
being small enough to allocate its resources and put plans in action. Although large, the city is

Not that sexuality is addressed in this book, but the flamboyant main character can be a representation
of the stereotype that homosexual men are perceived as. The book is the story of a duck who lives
outside the norms of what all the other ducks live by. For being different the duck is ridiculed, by both

could be said the main character is more attracted to fashion than his counterparts in the book, but he
is also less attracted to what is normal for little boys to be interested in such as when he attempts to
play baseball, and for likes and dislikes he is labeled a Sissy . The book also displays blatant bullying
by other kids at the main character s school towards him, and use of derogatory names such as Sissy .
Also, there is the daily indignity that Elmer must endure, that many flamboyant men must endure,
whether straight or homosexual, every day when they are not accepted, or made to feel different by the
dominant class (Straight people), that is portrayed very vividly in this book. In the end however there
is the positive message of Elmer being accepted by his father, and other lessons throughout the book

Research Paper On A Bad Driver
A bad driver is not the reckless maniac running red lights and knocking over stop signs in order to beat
the rush hour traffic. A bad driver is not the teenager in the driver s seat for the first time, racing
through a parking lot at ten miles per hour. A bad driver is neither the gray haired man driving under
the speed limit on a one lane road, nor the woman fixing her lipstick in the rearview mirror, instead of
watching the light turn green. This essay does not refer to those without adequate driving skills, but
rather, to those who are capable of driving well but choose not to. In this essay, bad driving is defined
as a mere disregard for the road regulations that do not directly benefit the driver, otherwise known as
efficient driving. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The polite driver would find his place on the right side of the road, and put up with everyone around
him driving five miles under what his grandma would be driving without her glasses. The efficient
driver knows better. He swiftly transitions into the leftmost lane and drives at a pace that is
comfortable to him, despite that said speed is often ten miles under the speed limit. He artfully sets his
radio to the perfect volume to drown the honking of the cars behind him. It is important to note that
the efficient driver does not use his turn signal when changing lanes. The sight of his car leaving the
right lane should be enough to alert any drivers behind him, and if not, they should be paying closer
attention. At this point, one may begin to question the rules of the road, and will eventually come to
the realization that many of these so called regulations are simply suggestions. For example, the solid
yellow lines in the middle of the road are present more of a guideline than a strict decree, so if it is
more convenient, one can ignore the distinctions and take up as many lanes as is necessary. One must
remember that he has a singular goal, and everyone else on the road is merely an obstacle in his way
of achieving that

Diabetes Mellitus Research Paper

EXPLANATION OF PATHOPHYSIOLOGY
The pathophysiology of the two types of Diabetes Mellitus are described by Schilling (2010). Type 1
Non Insulin Dependent Diabetes Mellitus starts with a viral infection or other triggering condition that
forms antibodies that destroy the beta cells within the pancreas. This causes the pancreas production of
insulin to drop over time. Initially, the body uses the insulin that was already produced, but as the
insulin decreases, the cells within the body are not able to receive and use the glucose. The sugar
remains in the bloodstream after digestion and the negative effects of hyperglycemia become more
damaging. With Type 1, about 90% or the beta cells are killed by the antibodies.
Type 2 Insulin Dependent Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic disease caused by one or more of the
following three factors.
Impaired insulin production within the pancreas, so the body does not have enough to move the
glucose into the tissues and cells.
Incorrect glucose production in the liver.
The cells resist the insulin, so it cannot attach to the correct receptors.
SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF DIABETES MELLITUS, according to the American Diabetes
Association (2015) the most basic symptoms of Type 1 and Type 2 DM are:

Persuasive Essay On California Drought
California is currently breaking the state record for longest ongoing drought, now entering it s fourth
year. This drought has taken over 98% of the state. Out of that large percentage, over 44% is in
exceptional drought, which is the worst level of drought. There s uncertainty about how long this
drought will continue into the future and how severe the problem will become.
Droughts are caused a number of different ways. Changes in wind patterns move the clouds and
moisture through the atmosphere, which can result in an area having abnormal amounts of rain or
snow over an extended period of time. 4.4 million acre feet of water from the Colorado River is
entitled to California annually. In areas where most water used comes from rivers, droughts can be
caused from places upstream that are not getting enough moisture. In many cases, humans play a big
role in droughts. Excessive use of water during times of regular rainfall lead to not having enough
water during droughts. Chopping down trees makes it tough for soil ... Show more content on

Lack of water makes regular activities such as washing dishes, bathing, cooking, etc., much more

Being our country s leading producer of food, it has become less simple for California s farmers to
grow mass amounts of fruits and vegetables. The scarcity of water for food production has caused the
prices of food to rise. Since the drought keeps vegetation dry, it has become vulnerable to intense
wildfires. These wildfires create many issues within the ecosystem such as air pollution, destruction of
habitat, and wildlife death. Though most of California s wildlife is adapted to short term dry climate,

The neighborhood that the Youngers lived in was poor and mostly inhabited by African Americans.
The neighborhood in the story showed how the white society made it very hard for African Americans
to escape the cramped, vermin infested apartment buildings of Chicago s South Side. There may not
have been any law officially segregating the city, but unofficial segregation was still going on as seen
in the story. For instance , when Mama had found and bought a house in an all white community Karl
Lindner, a member of the Clybourne Park, said that the current people in the neighborhood don t want
the Youngers to move in because of the color of their skin. In fact, they didn t want them there to the
point of offering to buy the house for more than it was sold for. This shows how segregation was still a
huge problem. The exact year is never specified, but the play takes place during WWll which was
around the 1950s. The most significant thing about the time period is the status of race issues. A lot of

what caused its downfall and demise as a state. Once established, we can hypothesize the legacy left

Marketing Strategies For The Hospitality Industry
The hospitality industry is an industry that heavily relies on the experience economy. It is essential for
hotels and restaurants to gain a competitive advantage through differentiation to create and provide
unique experiences for customers. After all, customers not only pay for products, they also pay for the
services provided, embracing the experience economy. There are seven marketing strategies to achieve
this goal, two of which are Physical Evidence and Process . This paper will be discussing these two
strategies and how the hospitality industry uses them to create memorable experiences.
The first of the two strategies is Physical Evidence . Customers tend to rely on physical cues to assist
in evaluation of a product before buying it. These physical cues are provided by the physical evidence
of the product. In the hotels and restaurants, the physical environment plays a huge role in physical
evidence. The physical environment includes factors such as ambiance and spatial layout.
(Professional Academy) These factors are crucial in evoking emotions in customers. When ambiance
and spacial layout are done right or tailored to suit the theme of the restaurant or hotel, customers
would feel positively about their whole experience.
Ambiance is a critical part of any restaurant or hotel when it comes to selling the whole experience.
Ambiance can be diverse. For example, from a relaxing, soothing environment in a spa to loud music,

Employees Are The Lifeblood Of A Well Functioning Company
Employees are the lifeblood to a well functioning company. When a business has employees who are
productive and able to communicate effectively, it makes for a practically seamless workdays work
emergencies not included. So it s essentially that employers provide their workers the technology to
ensure that employees can work as a cohesive team. Nowadays, more and more people are working
from home. Therefore, implementing productivity tools that are easy to access is crucial. If you re
looking for software that can help your company run like a well oiled machine, then here are a few
tools to get you started.
1. SLACK
Slack is by far, one of the top communication tools out there. It s essentially a messaging app for
teams. Not only can you send messages, but you can also share work files, images, documents,
spreadsheets and PDFs. The app allows you to highlight important comments, and bookmark them, so
that you can conveniently reference them later on.
Slack easily syncs with other applications like Google Drive and Dropbox. Sometimes it s important
that chat conversations be positioned into their own channels. With Slack, you can do this and more.
Slack allows you to organize your chat into specific channels. You ll never have to worry about
relocating past chat notes ever again.
One major caveat for Slack is that is it not a project management tool. It is for communication only.
You also cannot set away messages or go idle, when you re inactive. So may prove to be

A Study of Learning Strategies in L2 Acquisition
【Abstract】With the concept of autonomy being part of the mainstream of research and practice
within the field of language education, the study of learning strategies in L2 acquisition has drawn
much attention. This paper discusses the issues covering the fundamental aspect: identification and
classification of learning strategy. The problems are reviewed concerning the definition and
classification of learning strategies and then the paper tentatively introduces Cohen s approach to
defining learning strategies in terms of prototypicality of features of learning strategies.

Cohen (1998) : Learning strategies are learning processes which are consciously selected by the
learner. The words consciously select are important because they demonstrate the special character of
strategy.
Wenden(1998): Learning strategies are mental steps or operations that learners use to learn a new
language and to regulate their efforts to do so.( as cited in Ellis, 1994, p. 531)
The above definitions show that no researchers define language learning strategies in exactly the same
way. All these definitions provide insights into understanding the process of learning a language. How
to define learning strategies is crucial in underpinning the framework of researchers study. Definition
is fundamental to laying the foundation for the areas of research. However, these definitions of
language learning strategies reveals some problems. Learning strategies is such a broad word that it
can refer to the general approaches or specific techniques used to learn a language. Maybe it is the
main reason why the definitions are atheoretical. There are other two problems: Are learning strategies
to be perceived of as behavioural or mental? Are learning strategies conscious and intentional or
subconscious?

The purpose of this paper is to bring awareness to the issue of healthcare fraud and abuse. I feel that
healthcare fraud and abuse is one of the biggest issues in healthcare. So, this paper will get everyone
to be able to spot fraud before it happens. During, the process you will be able to identify what a
person organization did that was fraud or how they abused healthcare rules. This paper will explain to
you what exactly healthcare fraud and abuse is and how it affects everyone around us. Throughout this
paper, we will examine 3 different articles related the healthcare fraud and abuse and provide a
summary and analyze them. So, what is healthcare fraud and abuse is, you may ask? When talking
about healthcare fraud and abuse, we are talking about 2 major statutes in the healthcare industry,
Physician Self Referral (Stark) Law and AKS (Anti Kickback Statutes). These laws apply to many
practices and procedures within organizations and can be manipulated to benefit an organization
financially. The Physician Self Referral Law prohibits entities from presenting a claim to anyone for
healthcare services for a service not rendered and it also prohibits a physician for creating a referral
for services that are designated but are not rendered. AKS prohibits anyone from offering a kickback,
paying a kickback, or receiving a kickback in return for the delivery of health care services. However,
the AKS encourages referrals based on monetary rewards to the primary source rather than

When I Have Managed To Make My Wife Summary
The author begins the story with a line that sets the entire story. The first line of the story is, The truth
of the matter is: I have managed to make my wife very, very small. The narrator goes on to explain it
was not intentional and the miniaturization was an accident. The author then has the narrator give
background information and explain the story of what happens to his wife and himself. The story ends
with the extreme measures the miniature wife has taken upon herself to torture the narrator. The
miniature wife sets trip wires throughout the home and sticks tiny spears in the carpet. The first scenes
of the story are about the wife and the miniaturization. The next scenes following explain how upset
the wife is with her current state. She does things to the narrator that mess with his appearance by
dulling his razors and removing the buttons on his clothes. The narrator keeps issues to himself
because he doesn t want to lose his job or there be a police investigation. The narrator then makes a
dollhouse for his wife and does until the end of the story where she invites her husband to have dinner
at home, and when he comes home she is naked ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I thought this story was very ambitious. It reminded me of an old movie called Honey I Shrunk The
Kids. The process of making a human the size of a coffee mug is rather far off, I enjoyed the humor
the author added. The things that the wife would do to the husband I felt sorry for him, but at the same
time they were such little things a miniature person would do if they were home all day and bored. I
think the wife did those things to the narrator because she blames him for what has happened to her.
The author on top of the ambitious story then has the wife cheat on her husband. This twist I was
surprised by; I thought there was going to be a happy ending between the two was they would
reconcile and perhaps the husband would shrink himself. I felt the author made the story grander by
adding the twist at the

Swingers Film Analysis
Swingers is a 1996 low budget romantic comedy drama which ignited the careers of director Doug
Liman, and actors Vince Vaughn and Jon Favreau. Set in mid 1990s Los Angeles and Las Vegas, the
cities become as much as a lead role as the actors. Revolving around a young comedian/actor named
Michael (Mike) played by Jon Favreau, the plot follows the difficulties Mike has been dealing with
regarding the romantic and career consequences of leaving New York to becoming a success in Los
Angeles. During the course of the film, we find Mike confiding in his back east friend Rob, played by
Ron Livingston, regarding the pain of leaving his girlfriend in New York, trying to learn how to
venture back in the game of meeting women from his friend and film s antagonist, Trent, played by
Vince Vaughn, and the attempting to manage his chaotic new life with the in Los Angeles and the
animated new people with whom he now associates. However, the film is not simply skin deep. Once
you peel back the layers, we discover that the film, with its Rat Pack references, swing music and
desires to keep it Old School , are more about living in a rapidly changing environment and the people
who won t let release the grasp on the past. Moreover, the film attempts to hold on to the once was
classy cultural aspects of Los Angeles and Las Vegas. The characters don t want to be the people that
they are today, living in the mid 90s, they yearn to be the stars of yesteryear and an attempt to relive
those lives while dealing with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Why Analytics Is An Unavoidable Segment For An...
These are the days where we invest most of our time to get things done sitting in front of the computer
rather that running from one place to the other. It has brought a revolution in the way we handle
things. It saves money, labor and its benefits are umpteen. When the demand and the interest by the
public are steering towards the use of online services, it has become an unavoidable segment for any
organization to emphasis more on it to attract its customers with a better user experience.
It s quite common that every task that we perform, we check whether it is being executed in the
expected way. Ultimately, if it s going in a right path well and good but the actual question arises
when it s the other way. This is the point where analytics come into picture. The need for analytics is
very much known to us because it can be one of the most powerful driving factors to tune the
performance of an organization s processes, strategies and uplifting revenue.
[2] Web analytics is the measurement, collection, analysis and reporting of web data for purposes of
understanding and optimizing web usage. However, Web analytics is not just a process for measuring
web traffic but can be used as a tool for business and market research, and to assess and improve the
effectiveness of a website. Wikipedia
[4] Web analytics is often more related to customer relationship management analytics. This analysis
can unravel the likelihood of a particular customer will repurchase a product after

Teleological Arguments Essay
The argument from design or the teleological argument points to the existence of order and direction
in nature to a kind of purpose. The argument essentially proves the existence of God. A designer must
exist because the universe and living things exhibit marks of design in their complexity. Design type
arguments are unproblematic when based upon things nature plainly could not or would not produce,
like human artifacts. If designs entail a designer, and the universe shows marks of design, then the
universe was created. An intelligent designer is an entity that the intelligent design movement argues
had some role in the development of life. Essentially, the claim being made is that certain aspects of
the universe are too perfectly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, if one stumbled across a stone it would be difficult for one to explain how it got there.
Secondly, just as the complexity of a watch imply intelligent design, Paley suggested that the universe
too implies intelligent design. The eye is usually used as an example of design. I know no better
method of introducing so large a subject, than that of comparing a single thing with a single thing; an
eye, for example, with a telescope (Klemke 32). Paley stated that both of these are instruments and
bear resemblance to one another. In order for the eye or telescope to work, there must be many
dissimilar convergent parts that individually have no role but have value only in a designed whole.
Therefore, it is only in the joined unity that they exhibit their total function.
David Hume counter argued against the argument from design. He noted that although we know that
man made structures are designed because we have seen them being built, the analogy does not hold
for non man made structures. A theist must be able to show that natural objects in the universe were
manufactured in some way. For example, trees, humans and rocks. The analogy then requires the
existence of an intelligent designer. Hume criticizes the claim that artifacts and the universe are
similar in the right ways because we have only had experience with just one universe. He rejects the
analogy between the material universe and a human

A Study On Refining Organizational Training Essay
I. INTRODUCTION In today s global economy the role of training employees goes beyond providing
traditional instruction to meet organization training needs. Developing new hires and managing their
full capabilities is at the core front of any organization. This capstone literature review plan focuses on
refining organizational training research, demonstrating an understanding of current organizational
environment and limitations, and how the capstone project can fit in the global context of training. II.
Describe a plan to collect and organize literature that explains the history of the topic. This capstone
project literature review will consist of historic and present studies of employee training. This
capstone project is compiled of literal evidence on employee training from primary and secondary
literal findings. According to Gills and Johnston, (1997) as cited by Saunders et al., (2007) the fact
that, knowledge does not exist in vacuum has made the researcher visit as much literature on sited
research problem. The secondary research is collected from peer reviewed articles; published books,
library, online databases, and validated websites. There are several theories that the capstone will help
future research by in depth analysis of study outcome. The capstone focuses on past research work to
gain better understanding of the framework for organizational training. The following Literature

Differences between the Chesapeake Bay and New England...
Differences between the Chesapeake Bay and New England ColoniesThere are many key differences
that distinguish the inhabitants of the New England colonies from those of the Chesapeake Bay
colonies. These dissimilarities include but are not limited to the differences between the social
structure, family life, forms of government, religion, and the lives of indentured servants and children
in the two colonies.
The social structure and family life of the two colonies varied greatly. The inhabitants of the
Chesapeake Bay colonies were never able to establish a successful social structure or sense of family
life due primarily to the nature of its inhabitants. According to the essay Looking Out for Number
One: Conflicting Cultural Values in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some what different from this was the government that was present in the New England colonies. As
with many other aspects of life, the Puritans government was based on family. According to the essay
The Godly Family of Colonial Massachusetts, The household not the individual was the fundamental
unit of society. The political order was not an agglomeration of detached individuals; it was an organic
unity composed of families. (The Way We Lived 43). Since the political decisions were based on
families instead of the individuals themselves, each Puritan household received only one vote on
issues that were presented. As was customary in the time, the father would represent the head of the
household at the polls. If the husband was not able to go to the polls then it would be handed down to
the wife and she would represent the family at the poles.
Another major difference between the Chesapeake Bay colonies and the New England colonies was
religion. The street toughs and roughnecks who settled in the Chesapeake Bay colonies were not very
churchly people although occasionally someone would comment on the need for churches and more
importantly schools. Although it was commented upon, the large distances between plantations would
have made it nearly impossible to build a church that was close enough to be used by everyone. The
quote, Church buildings were in perpetual state of decay; ministers were poorly supported by there
parishioners (The Way We Lived 27), shows just

Theodore Roosevelt And The Roosevelt Center
Theodore Roosevelt during his life would spend time in North Dakota to hunt buffalo and settled in a
ranch there for some years as he found a renowned interest in the area he called his second home . In
2005, Dickinson State University (DSU) began to explore the legacy of the 26th President as a tribute
to his historical legacy and admiration to the territory that the university resides today. As a result the
Theodore Roosevelt Center was founded in 2007 at the university. In essence the Theodore Roosevelt
Center was founded to manage Roosevelt s archives as like many prior presidents, he did not have an
established presidential library. Many of his papers were scattered in archives around the country
including the Library of Congress, Harvard University, six national parks, and in smaller collections at
numerous other repositories. In 2008, DSU began a partnership with the Library of Congress to
digitize the Library s vast holdings related to Theodore Roosevelt, with the intent to make them freely
available online. Its broad audience scope is to attract everyone from scholars and schoolchildren,
enthusiasts and interested citizens and to provide well organized high quality reference material to
enthusiastic seekers of our 16th president. The physical library is expected to open in 2019 but is
available online.
Recognizing the significance of the contributions being made by Dickinson State University in
preserving and promoting Roosevelt s legacy, in the spring of 2013 the

Tsunami Response Paper
Research by Goff et al.(2014) stated the following:
The traditional term tsunami means harbour wave (tsu: harbour, nami: wave)..., a tsunami is
specifically described as a series of travelling waves of extremely long length and period, usually
generated by disturbances associated with earthquakes occurring below or near the ocean floor.
Tsunami are commonly often associate with an earthquake but not all earthquakes generates tsunami.
It depends on the movement of earth s plate. If earth s plate moved vertically much damage from
tsunami would occur. For example, on December,26, 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami
shook Indonesia and killed an estimated 230,000 people, most due to the tsunami and the lack of aid
afterward. (Live Science ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
JetStream featured, Tsunamis range in size from inches to over a hundred feet. In deep water (greater
than 600 feet/180 meters). As JetStream also emphasized that the wave height can increase by over 10
times as tsunamis propagate into shallow water, and the waves can be amplified by shoreline and
bathymetric (seafloor) features, Cheng and Weiss (2013) researched the link between the onshore
slope, initial amplitude and the difference between the maximum tsunami inundation and inland
sediment by observing from 2011 Tohoku oki tsunami in Sendai. Cheng and Weiss (2013) found that
for sand the grain size has little effect on the deposition ratio, but initial amplitude and slope influence
the deposition ratio; steep slopes and low amplitudes have the most sensitive effect on deposition
ratio. Thus, Cheng and Weiss (2013) argued that the application of the deposition ratio will improve
tsunami hazard assessments by providing a geophysically more realistic inundation limit than the
cases where only the inland extent of tsunami sediment is taken into account. Goto et al. (2014) also
seemed to agree with Cheng and Weiss s research, as they stated For disaster prevention purpose,
geological research is undoubtedly of great value to tsunami risk assessment...we should be
considering what the most

Hamlet Strengths And Weaknesses
Strength is essential to overcome obstacles, however people in similar circumstances may have
disparate decisions, leading to various outcomes and consequences. In spite of all challenges,
discouragements and impossibilities; strength distinguishes a strong soul from a weak one. Through
the literatures of William Shakespeare, Miriam Toews and Lawrence Hill, it is evident that ethics and
morality play an important role in affecting decisions of the main characters. Assuredly, Hamlet,
Naomi and Aminata, participate in situations where their courage is tested to its fullest, impacting their
fate; for the better and for the worse. Despite bearing cultural and periodic differences, Hamlet by
William Shakespeare, A Complicated Kindness by Miriam Toews and The Book of Negroes by
Lawrence Hill all demonstrate judgements that enrich and destroy the lives of the protagonists and of
those around them. Firstly, Hamlet in Hamlet shows dreadful judgement by consuming himself in
revengeance, resulting in his own downfall. Hamlet becomes obsessed with avenging his uncle, King
Claudius for murdering his father, King Hamlet. As a result of this, corruption takes hold of Hamlet s
life, in which it becomes full of hatred, reprisal and bloodlust. Hamlet questions himself of which act
is more noble. Is it more noble to suffer from the wrong deeds that one has done onto another or if it is
more noble to end the suffering by fighting? In this soliloquy, it is clear that Hamlet is torn between

Intensive Care Unit Analysis
Introduction 166
Endotracheal tube, mechanical ventilator, central venous catheter, invasive pressure monitors, ECG
cable, oxygen saturation monitor, Foley catheter, drain tubes, chest tubes, percutaneous pacemaker,
and peripheral intravenous line. These are just an example of cables and tubes that can be attached to a
single patient who is treated in an intensive care unit (ICU) and most of them trigger an alarm if a
patient moves like a normal human being. Needless to say, it is evident for nurses that these patients
suffer from these wires and tubes, unfamiliar environment surrounded by the constant multiple
mechanical noises, and interruption of rest caused by nursing cares, treatments, diagnostic tests, and
procedures although all of them are meant to be life saving.
To support these patients in their ICU stay, we nurses take care all aspect of their needs by maintaining

  • 5. The Prosecutors Firearm Identification Testimony The prosecutors firearm identification testimony for the case was poorly executed which allowed Waite to reexamine the bullets from the case and what he found was the rifling markings did not match up with the bullets that were test fired from Steielow s gun. They determined that Stielow was not guilty due to the conclusion that his firearm was not used in the crime. Following this case Waite was inspired to develop a systematic process for documenting ballistics information to avoid making mistakes in later cases. After this Waite began to travel to different firearm manufacturers to document the process of creating the firearms to study the different characteristics in each. As firearm production began to become more advance and higher quality in the assembly process it opened more ways for investigators to attack firearm crimes. The range of evidence that can be recovered from a firearm involved case can be as small as a bullet fragment that holds the rifling markings from the firearm to the firearm itself. The firearm itself is a highly anticipated form of evidence that investigators will search for because of the information it can possess. The firearm itself can hold many different forms of evidence such as the firearm serial number. In this paper, I will be describing The Torso of Aphrodite, using my own viewpoints and the elements of formal art analysis, in order to explain the uniqueness when compared to other pieces in The Classical World exhibit. The Torso of Aphrodite was constructed in the 1st century A.D. and is made entirely of marble. The torso used to belong to a life sized version statue of The Greek goddess of love Aphrodite. To understand the piece, a very visual and detailed perspective is needed. Judging by the way the thighs are represented, it appears as though she is striking a contrapposto pose, which makes her appear static. She has most of her weight shifted on her left leg, but not all of it The focal point of this piece I believe is her robe. It skillfully falls down her left side, while leaving other parts exposed, drawing the main attention of this piece. Few different types of shapes are displayed, except the shape of her legs and the form of the robe. The physical texture was smooth throughout the entire piece, partly due to the material it is made of. There is only this one texture, as her robe and body parts all feel the same. Ministry Burnout A Description and Scope of the Issue of Ministry Burnout The Scope of the Issue of Burnout Ministry burnout is a problem for the minister who is burned out, the family of the minister, and the churches they serve. Adding to the problem is, There are still many in the churches who refuse to recognize that there is a problem with what is today called clergy burnout (Randall, 2013, p. 334). When a church will not acknowledge there is a potential problem, the minister will be left to deal with the shame and pain of suffering burnout. Burnout is a psychological condition that results from chronic stress related to working with people (Milner, 2007, p. 9). The statistics are alarming. Christian Ministers are leaving the ministry in droves. According to statistics gathered by J.R. • 9. Gender Trouble Of Judith Butler The book Gender Trouble of Judith Butler, distributed in 1990, required another method for taking a gander at sex and sexual orientation. Instead of the settled manly/female sexual orientation binary, Butler contended that gender ought to be seen as liquid (fluid), variable; the way we act at various times and in various circumstances as opposed to who we are. Butler proposed that by deconstructing the way we consider gender we may move towards another fairness where individuals are not confined by manly or female sexual orientation parts. Like women s activists before her, Butler is worried with achieving more prominent uniformity between men and women, yet her accentuation is distinctive, just like her proposed method for activity. • 10. Explore How Shakespeare Examines the Themes If Jealousy... Explore how Shakespeare examines the themes if jealousy and deception in Othello the play and Othello the character. Sana Thomas Jealousy and Deception are both continuous themes running through out Shakespeare s Othello. Indeed, it is jealousy that provides the fuel for the plot and deception that leads to the classic downfall of the hero as is common in Shakespeare tragedies. However, it is a theme of hate that the play opens. It is a hate of inveterate anger. It is a hate that is bound up with envy hanging on a strained thread waiting to snap. The deception begins when he blatantly lies to Brabantio, telling him that Othello has bewitched his daughter into marrying him: an old black ram Is tupping your white ewe (1.1.89) . The language Iago uses to address Brabantio here is vulgar and discourteous. The fact that he takes no heed that Brabantio is of a higher status than him is intended to provoke and aggravate him, so that he will impart his rage when confronting Othello. This confirms the audience s suspicion of Iago being cold, conniving and calculated. As part of the audience, I believe that the handkerchief introduced in Act 3 symbolizes deceit for which it is used. It is this handkerchief Othello had given Desdemona as a wedding present and a token of the couple s eternal fidelity that acts as a catalyst to the unpleasant and poignant changes in the play: the napkin is too little (3.3.287) . Othello demands ocular proof (3.3.360) from Iago that his wife Desdemona was committing adultery with Cassio: Villain, be sure to prove my love a whore (3.3.360) , Does Othello s insistence on proof suggest that this jealous husband is a nobler man? Iago must only deceive Othello by telling him that the handkerchief he so lovingly gave his wife is not in his wife s possession but in Cassio s: a hankerchief/did I see Cassio wipe his beard with (3.3.440). • 11. Hills Like White Elephants, a Theme Analysis Essay Ernest Hemmingway uses time, place, and symbolism in Hills like White Elephants to intensify the central dilemma in a story about a man and a woman deciding on whether to go through with an abortion. Although a literal reading of the title may not seem to have any relation to the story, the title is rich in implications. Critics suggest that Hills refers to the shape of a woman s stomach when pregnant, and Webster s 21st Century Dictionary defines white elephant as: [An] awkward, useless possession. The train depot is surrounded on both sides by fields: one side with trees and fields of grain, and the other contains nothing but dust (Hemingway 324). The two sides of the train tracks represent the choice Jig will have to face between pregnancy and abortion. Every time the man or the woman try to change the subject and avoid talking about the abortion, they end up saying something that refers to or alludes to the baby or the abortion. The woman suggests that the hills look like white elephants (324), which the man fails to acknowledge. The lack of clear communication between the two causes tension and arguments at every turn. When the woman agrees sarcastically that the man has never seen white elephants, he says, Just because you say I wouldn t have doesn t prove anything (324). The woman is clearly annoyed at the insensitivity of the man s negative feelings toward her pregnancy. For her, the baby is a priceless treasure, but for him it is a worthless fetus. Time and place are very significant in the story. The author describes where the train is boarded and where it is headed to, but he never tells the reader where the man and woman are at the moment. Hemingway notes that the train stopped at this junction for two minutes and went on to Madrid (324). Baker argues that this limited time symbolizes the time she has to have the abortion (Baker, 145). • 16. Differences Between Emily Dickinson And Bukowski Bukowski was influenced by many writers before and around his time as he was published in the mid to late nineties. Those who influenced him include Albert Camus, E. E. Cummings, John Fante, Henry Miller, and some will argue Emily Dickinson. Both writers, Dickinson and Bukowski, touch upon death, writing from their graves, and saving the world through the sincerity of one person. Dickinson s poem If I can stop one heart from breaking mirrors one of Bukowski s most famous quotes You begin saving the world by saving one person at a time; all else is grandiose romanticism or politics. His simple of idea that universal peace begins with one soul mimics the message in Dickinson s verse. If I can stop one heart from breaking, I shall not live in vain; If I can ease one life the aching, Or cool one pain, Or help one fainting robin Unto his nest again, I shall not live in vain (Dickinson). Words synonymous with each other not only shows the similarity in writing topics, but also in the thought process for both writers. Both their moral compasses lead to the same conclusion, whether it is a thought they act on or simply have. The similarities between these two go one further in their darker poetry. Emily Dickinson famously writes many poems about death and dying as does Charles Bukowski. Two poems of theirs are particularly similar. • 24. How Did The Rise And Spread Of Islam Islam is one of the oldest and the second largest religions today, coming second to Christianity. The religion is believed to derive mostly from the teachings of the prophet Muhammad. He was also believed to be the last prophet. Islam began in about 600 AD, around the time Muhammad was instructed to teach the word of God in Mecca. When Muhammad was about forty years of age, he began having visions and would also hear voices. Often enough, he would find clarity by meditating in a cave at Mount Hira (near Mecca). One day as he was meditating, he saw a light and felt sequestered. It was the Archangel Gabriel speaking to him, revealing the first verse. This verse was the first of many that would later become the basis of the Quran. During the pre Islamic Arabian Peninsula, it was believed that there were multiple Gods but these revelations contradicted that belief; proving that there existed only one God. Like other prophets, Muhammad was chosen to be the messenger of the word of God. Due to the animosity he received, Muhammad left Mecca and went to Medina. While there, he would still receive divine revelations and began to build an expanding community full of supporters and followers of the new faith. After years of violence due to the conflicting religions, Mecca surrendered. Muhammad and his followers returned to Mecca after that and destroyed the pagan idols while spreading the new faith and belief in one God. After the holy Qur an, the sayings of the Prophet ... What began as peaceful protests has turned into brutal civil war with over 100,000 deaths and counting. With all these casualties and the U.S government expects to make a series of targeted military strikes against the Syrian government? Syria is a country in the Middle East, along the eastern shore of the Mediterranean Sea. Syria is very diverse, ethnically and religiously. As the veteran foreign correspondent and Syria expert Patrick Seale has written: The only way to prevent a full scale civil war in Syria . . . is to demilitarize the conflict and bring maximum pressure on both sides to negotiate (qtd. in Hasan). The United States needs a new approach, one that starts with a more diplomatic solution aimed at pushing all sides to the negotiating table. The only way the U.S can resolve this crisis is by working together with the Syrian government and getting other countries to exert their influence and persuade the Syrian government to turn in their enormous stockpile of chemical weapons. The idea of military intervention will just increase the casualties in both sides. For example, after NATO s air assault on Yugoslavia kicked off in March 1999, the number of civilian casualties and refugees in Kosovo went up, not down. In Iraq and Afghanistan, tens of thousands of innocents lost their lives at the hands of western troops as well as home grown terrorists (Hasan). It refers to positive and negative feelings towards one another. Since most people desire relationships of some form, be it platonic friendship or romance, these are common essentials, which make interpersonal attraction a major topic within social psychology. Since it is such an important topic, this essay will discuss what attraction is and what determines it. Social traits are important aspects in attraction and according to Hume (1757), attraction is biased since it is in the eye of the beholder . However, researchers have defined attraction objectively through a variety of social factors and theories and answered the question what draws us into these relationships ? What makes another person attractive ? Researchers have identified five factors that are important in determining whether we are likely to find another person attractive. These factors are physical attractiveness, proximity, pheromones, mutual attraction or liking, similarity or complementarity of interest and beliefs. Pathophysiology Of Diabetes Mellitus And Mellitus Diabetes Mellitus Nathalie Dao Med 2056 VN FT030 Diabetes Mellitus Research Paper Ms. Annabelle Anglo 3/16/2015 EXPLANATION OF PATHOPHYSIOLOGY The pathophysiology of the two types of Diabetes Mellitus are described by Schilling (2010). Type 1 Non Insulin Dependent Diabetes Mellitus starts with a viral infection or other triggering condition that forms antibodies that destroy the beta cells within the pancreas. This causes the pancreas production of insulin to drop over time. Initially, the body uses the insulin that was already produced, but as the insulin decreases, the cells within the body are not able to receive and use the glucose. The sugar remains in the bloodstream after digestion and the negative effects of hyperglycemia become more damaging. With Type 1, about 90% or the beta cells are killed by the antibodies. Type 2 Insulin Dependent Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic disease caused by one or more of the following three factors. Impaired insulin production within the pancreas, so the body does not have enough to move the glucose into the tissues and cells. Incorrect glucose production in the liver. The cells resist the insulin, so it cannot attach to the correct receptors. SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF DIABETES MELLITUS, according to the American Diabetes Association (2015) the most basic symptoms of Type 1 and Type 2 DM are: The three P s  Polyuria Urinating often and having to urinate frequently at night  Polydipsia Always feeling very ... I felt the author made the story grander by adding the twist at the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 43. Why Analytics Is An Unavoidable Segment For An... These are the days where we invest most of our time to get things done sitting in front of the computer rather that running from one place to the other. It has brought a revolution in the way we handle things. It saves money, labor and its benefits are umpteen. When the demand and the interest by the public are steering towards the use of online services, it has become an unavoidable segment for any organization to emphasis more on it to attract its customers with a better user experience. It s quite common that every task that we perform, we check whether it is being executed in the expected way. Ultimately, if it s going in a right path well and good but the actual question arises when it s the other way. This is the point where analytics come into picture. The need for analytics is very much known to us because it can be one of the most powerful driving factors to tune the performance of an organization s processes, strategies and uplifting revenue. [2] Web analytics is the measurement, collection, analysis and reporting of web data for purposes of understanding and optimizing web usage. However, Web analytics is not just a process for measuring web traffic but can be used as a tool for business and market research, and to assess and improve the effectiveness of a website. Wikipedia [4] Web analytics is often more related to customer relationship management analytics. This analysis can unravel the likelihood of a particular customer will repurchase a product after ... • 44. Teleological Arguments Essay The argument from design or the teleological argument points to the existence of order and direction in nature to a kind of purpose. The argument essentially proves the existence of God. A designer must exist because the universe and living things exhibit marks of design in their complexity. Design type arguments are unproblematic when based upon things nature plainly could not or would not produce, like human artifacts. If designs entail a designer, and the universe shows marks of design, then the universe was created. An intelligent designer is an entity that the intelligent design movement argues had some role in the development of life. Essentially, the claim being made is that certain aspects of the universe are too perfectly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, if one stumbled across a stone it would be difficult for one to explain how it got there. Secondly, just as the complexity of a watch imply intelligent design, Paley suggested that the universe too implies intelligent design. The eye is usually used as an example of design. I know no better method of introducing so large a subject, than that of comparing a single thing with a single thing; an eye, for example, with a telescope (Klemke 32). Paley stated that both of these are instruments and bear resemblance to one another. In order for the eye or telescope to work, there must be many dissimilar convergent parts that individually have no role but have value only in a designed whole. Therefore, it is only in the joined unity that they exhibit their total function. David Hume counter argued against the argument from design. He noted that although we know that man made structures are designed because we have seen them being built, the analogy does not hold for non man made structures. A theist must be able to show that natural objects in the universe were manufactured in some way. For example, trees, humans and rocks. The analogy then requires the existence of an intelligent designer. Hume criticizes the claim that artifacts and the universe are similar in the right ways because we have only had experience with just one universe. He rejects the analogy between the material universe and a human ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. A Study On Refining Organizational Training Essay I. INTRODUCTION In today s global economy the role of training employees goes beyond providing traditional instruction to meet organization training needs. This capstone literature review plan focuses on refining organizational training research, demonstrating an understanding of current organizational environment and limitations, and how the capstone project can fit in the global context of training. II. Describe a plan to collect and organize literature that explains the history of the topic. This capstone project literature review will consist of historic and present studies of employee training. This capstone project is compiled of literal evidence on employee training from primary and secondary literal findings. According to Gills and Johnston, (1997) as cited by Saunders et al., (2007) the fact that, knowledge does not exist in vacuum has made the researcher visit as much literature on sited research problem. The secondary research is collected from peer reviewed articles; published books, library, online databases, and validated websites. There are several theories that the capstone will help future research by in depth analysis of study outcome. Differences between the Chesapeake Bay and New England ColoniesThere are many key differences that distinguish the inhabitants of the New England colonies from those of the Chesapeake Bay colonies. These dissimilarities include but are not limited to the differences between the social structure, family life, forms of government, religion, and the lives of indentured servants and children in the two colonies. The social structure and family life of the two colonies varied greatly. The inhabitants of the Chesapeake Bay colonies were never able to establish a successful social structure or sense of family life due primarily to the nature of its inhabitants. According to the essay Looking Out for Number One: Conflicting Cultural Values in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some what different from this was the government that was present in the New England colonies. As with many other aspects of life, the Puritans government was based on family. According to the essay The Godly Family of Colonial Massachusetts, The household not the individual was the fundamental unit of society. The political order was not an agglomeration of detached individuals; it was an organic unity composed of families. (The Way We Lived 43). Since the political decisions were based on families instead of the individuals themselves, each Puritan household received only one vote on issues that were presented. As was customary in the time, the father would represent the head of the household at the polls. If the husband was not able to go to the polls then it would be handed down to the wife and she would represent the family at the poles. Another major difference between the Chesapeake Bay colonies and the New England colonies was religion. The street toughs and roughnecks who settled in the Chesapeake Bay colonies were not very churchly people although occasionally someone would comment on the need for churches and more importantly schools. Although it was commented upon, the large distances between plantations would have made it nearly impossible to build a church that was close enough to be used by everyone. The quote, Church buildings were in perpetual state of decay; ministers were poorly supported by there parishioners (The Way We Lived 27), shows just ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Theodore Roosevelt And The Roosevelt Center Theodore Roosevelt during his life would spend time in North Dakota to hunt buffalo and settled in a ranch there for some years as he found a renowned interest in the area he called his second home . In 2005, Dickinson State University (DSU) began to explore the legacy of the 26th President as a tribute to his historical legacy and admiration to the territory that the university resides today. As a result the Theodore Roosevelt Center was founded in 2007 at the university. In essence the Theodore Roosevelt Center was founded to manage Roosevelt s archives as like many prior presidents, he did not have an established presidential library. Many of his papers were scattered in archives around the country including the Library of Congress, Harvard University, six national parks, and in smaller collections at numerous other repositories. In 2008, DSU began a partnership with the Library of Congress to digitize the Library s vast holdings related to Theodore Roosevelt, with the intent to make them freely available online. Its broad audience scope is to attract everyone from scholars and schoolchildren, enthusiasts and interested citizens and to provide well organized high quality reference material to enthusiastic seekers of our 16th president. The physical library is expected to open in 2019 but is available online. Recognizing the significance of the contributions being made by Dickinson State University in preserving and promoting Roosevelt s legacy, in the spring of 2013 the ... • 48. Tsunami Response Paper Research by Goff et al.(2014) stated the following: The traditional term tsunami means harbour wave (tsu: harbour, nami: wave)..., a tsunami is specifically described as a series of travelling waves of extremely long length and period, usually generated by disturbances associated with earthquakes occurring below or near the ocean floor. Tsunami are commonly often associate with an earthquake but not all earthquakes generates tsunami. It depends on the movement of earth s plate. If earth s plate moved vertically much damage from tsunami would occur. For example, on December,26, 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami shook Indonesia and killed an estimated 230,000 people, most due to the tsunami and the lack of aid afterward. (Live Science ... As JetStream also emphasized that the wave height can increase by over 10 times as tsunamis propagate into shallow water, and the waves can be amplified by shoreline and bathymetric (seafloor) features, Cheng and Weiss (2013) researched the link between the onshore slope, initial amplitude and the difference between the maximum tsunami inundation and inland sediment by observing from 2011 Tohoku oki tsunami in Sendai. Cheng and Weiss (2013) found that for sand the grain size has little effect on the deposition ratio, but initial amplitude and slope influence the deposition ratio; steep slopes and low amplitudes have the most sensitive effect on deposition ratio. Thus, Cheng and Weiss (2013) argued that the application of the deposition ratio will improve tsunami hazard assessments by providing a geophysically more realistic inundation limit than the cases where only the inland extent of tsunami sediment is taken into account. Goto et al. (2014) also seemed to agree with Cheng and Weiss s research, as they stated For disaster prevention purpose, geological research is undoubtedly of great value to tsunami risk assessment...we should be considering what the most ... • 49. Hamlet Strengths And Weaknesses Strength is essential to overcome obstacles, however people in similar circumstances may have disparate decisions, leading to various outcomes and consequences. In spite of all challenges, discouragements and impossibilities; strength distinguishes a strong soul from a weak one. Through the literatures of William Shakespeare, Miriam Toews and Lawrence Hill, it is evident that ethics and morality play an important role in affecting decisions of the main characters. Assuredly, Hamlet, Naomi and Aminata, participate in situations where their courage is tested to its fullest, impacting their fate; for the better and for the worse. Despite bearing cultural and periodic differences, Hamlet by William Shakespeare, A Complicated Kindness by Miriam Toews and The Book of Negroes by Lawrence Hill all demonstrate judgements that enrich and destroy the lives of the protagonists and of those around them. Firstly, Hamlet in Hamlet shows dreadful judgement by consuming himself in revengeance, resulting in his own downfall. Hamlet becomes obsessed with avenging his uncle, King Claudius for murdering his father, King Hamlet. As a result of this, corruption takes hold of Hamlet s life, in which it becomes full of hatred, reprisal and bloodlust. Hamlet questions himself of which act is more noble. Is it more noble to suffer from the wrong deeds that one has done onto another or if it is more noble to end the suffering by fighting? In this soliloquy, it is clear that Hamlet is torn between ...
