The Rise And Fall Of Spain
The Social, Political and Economic Reasons of the Rise and Fall of Spain
During the 15th century, many considered Spain insignificant. However, within a century it
became a world dominant power in Europe. Although Spain only took a brief time to rise, it was
also short lived. The rise of Spain was due to its flourishing culture, stable political system and
successful voyages to the New World. On the other hand, its decline was due to religious control,
resistance from other countries and inflation.
The year 1469 held the marriage of two Catholic monarchs, Isabella I of Castile and Ferdinand of
Aragon. Their marriage marked the unity of Spain and the beginning of a joint reign. The duo
imposed a central religion and dialogue for their fellow Spaniards. To reunify Spain s religion they
brought the church in order to control the corruption of the sale of indulgence. They also
established the Spanish Inquisition that helped avoid challenges from the Reformation. It s was
originally used to convert Jews and Islamic Moors, but was later used to punish those who
questioned the Catholic Church. Isabella and Ferdinand s marriage later triggered the Golden Age,
which is often interpreted as the age of learning. It increased the acknowledgement on the arts and
literatures in cities and countless people became artists who later emerged as influential figures.
With the help of many artists, Golden Age successfully uniformed the values of both socially and
culturally Spaniards.

Gender, Ethnicity, Race And Socio Economics Play
This will explore the role gender, ethnicity, race and socio economics play in the acquisition,
maintenance and experience of health care. A particular focus is the interaction (intersection)
between these elements and their effect on awareness, education, active prevention and early
detection of cancer, particularly breast cancerin women. Cancer is a disease caused by a mutation
and rapid division of cells. Cancer is a general term describing many diseases; essentially there is
a wide array of types of cancers. This vast differentiation makes it difficult to combat this disease
and similarly the differences among individuals cause the course of this disease to vary greatly,
cancer effects people differently. Breast cancer is one of the more well known forms of cancer
and is frequently touched upon or glazed over in discussion. A conversation may start with I
know someone who has or had cancer but way to often this is where the conversation ends. The
discussion on breast cancer needs to expand, to further the spread of information and
understanding of the many aspects of this disease. Breast cancer is a malignant tumor that starts in
the cells of the breast. A malignant tumor is a group of cancer cells that can grow into (invade)
surrounding tissues or spread (metastasize) to distant areas of the body (What is Breast cancer).
Breast cancer can be found in both male and female populations but it is particularly, prevalent
among women, Breast cancer is the most pervasive

To What Extent Were African-American Slaves в
ЂњFree” After...
Abstract:
To what extent were African American slaves free after the abolition of slavery by the
Emancipation Proclamation in 1863? What challenges did they face after their emancipation?
This is a subject of continued interest. History is rife with records of decades of untold torture
and harrowing experiences. African American slaves suffered at the hands of their captors and
masters. They were denied all natural rights as human beings and forced to live like animals. A
slave was viewed as one third of a person and the property of their owner(s) and treated as objects,
mere things. One would therefore assume that after their emancipation, life would become
significantly better because the slaves were free to move away from ... Show more content on

Being pregnant did not spare a slave woman the whip or rod. A hole was dug for her to rest her
belly while being whipped. They were also at constant risk of losing members of their families if
their owners decided to sell them for profit, punishment, or to pay debts. Slavery indeed was
dehumanizing in every sense of the word.
The Declaration of Emancipation was monumental, and came with the renewed sense of hope
that life after their emancipation would become significantly better. Being free, the former
slaves envisaged being able to live with a sense of purpose and pride in a land ripe with a
cornucopia of opportunities waiting to be capitalized on. Spirits were high and celebration took
place as ideas and fantasies of a rich lifestyle with a good standard of living were being
formulated.[1] For some ex slaves, their dreams became somewhat of a reality as their fight for
survival during slavery helped them develop the wits needed to succeed in their new found world.
Unfortunately, there were many tragic disappointments, as nearly all the slaves that were
emancipated were forced to return back to their old masters after leaving the plantations, starving
and diseased.[2] Many were not able to survive on their own. This came as a result of both internal
and external forces being somewhat trapped by their own helplessness, insecurities, lack of
knowledge[3] and still viewed as

Introduction
The second piece of coursework for virtualization is to thoroughly examine two types of
virtualisation systems. The chosen virtualised systems will be selected from the ones that were
taught by guest lecturers at the end of semester one. Each virtualised system will be looked at
extensively covering their features; along with their advantages and disadvantages. Nowadays
virtualisation systems have become very popular, meaning there is completion grown in the
virtualisation market. Two examples of popular virtualised systems are Microsoft Hyper V which
was introduced as part of Windows Server 2008, and KVM the kernel based virtual machine that
turns Linux into a hypervisor. Within this report both KVM and Hyper V will be explained and
compared; as well as pointing out their good aspects and their flaws.
Virtualisation
When we use the word virtualisation we are referring to the act of creating a virtual version of
technologies found in the world of computing. Technologies such as, operating systems, servers or
a storage device. Virtualisation is a tactical and highly effective way of lowering IT cost while at

New Yorker Book Cover
In 1942 America has recently joined WWII to fight against Germany and Japan after the attack on
Pearl Harbor. Many news outlets such as the New Yorker have provided information about the war
but what stands out from the others are there covers. The New Yorker use many covers reflecting
both on the war itself and on the impact of the conflict on American culture. From these two covers
we can see how the New Yorkerhas chosen the repetition of war to portray these covers from this
important cultural event, as well as which scenes were chosen for portrayal, can help to show how
Americans at the time viewed the war itself, and its impact on their culture which of it were most
important to people at the time. Even though both covers depict a simplistic... Show more content

Published in September 5, 1942 by the same artist Constantine Alajalov, we can see by the first
view of the cover on how the war has impacted the American industry. During the time of the war,
many able bodied men were either getting trained or in combat and with the high demand of
labor for war industries, many women for the first time have entered the work force performing
jobs that usually only men can handle. From this cover we see both men and women taking
their lunch breaks, the interesting part is how they re being represented. In one side we see the
men all dispirited from their work in plain darken clothes, while we see the women sitting in a
circle all talking and laughing dressed in bright colorful clothes. This possibly reflects the
different attitudes toward their work of the two groups. The women depicted here seems very
pleased with the work they re doing and helping as much as they can in the war, since before
WWII they only been able to help in limited ways. On the other hand, the men working here have
likely been rejected by the army, who would prefer to be fighting than working in a factory.
Constantin Alajalov painted this picture possibly to show how it reflects the different attitudes
toward work which the American people had based upon their gender and their situations, as well
as some tensions in which the war has created. These two pictures have a deeper meaning within it,
possibly the artist wanted to show how young soldiers would viewed if they joined and an outcome
how the war effected the

Family Traditions and Practices
The regular practices and traditions in a family life have different forms and dynamics, because
every family structure and composition has different modes and standards of living. And it depends
on the changing aspects of a family that how they perform and practice certain traditions and
practices.(Wolin, Bennett, Jacobs, 1988) it can be classified in few groups and categories mention
below.
(a) Under ritualized families: The groups of a people who are not interested to follow and
celebrate any ceremonies and traditions, in vacations or in free time. They do not involve and
organize any family events and festivals. Their domestic and household life is often seems to be
blank, unfriendly and cool. They live in society with other people but are least interested to
participate in social and cultural practices. These people are not considered very sociable,
welcoming, and outgoing to make any relations and contacts. Mostly these people live in a
nuclear family style, individuals living separate or often together but in a more democratic and
independent way and they can decide and spend their life according to their own will. (b)
Families with Strict Practices: People that follow traditions and customs very strictly in an
inflexible way and do not tolerate or agree for any changes in their routines, these people mostly
have joint family system in developing societies and all the close family members living together
and share their economy in a collective way. Senior members

The Macroscopic Material Behavior Of Concrete
The macroscopic material behavior of concrete is influenced by the geometry, spatial distribution
and material properties of individual material constituents and their mutual interactions. Therefore,
it is essential to study the influence of each material constituent in order to estimate the residual
strength of the structural components. Thus, failure of concreteis a complex phenomenon due to its
multiscale and multiphase nature. When the normal stress in a material reaches its tensile strength,
the inhomogeneities in concrete promote the formation of an inelastic zone ahead of an existing
crack termed as the fracture process zone (FPZ). The FPZ is dominated by various complicated
mechanisms such as crack shielding, crack deflection, aggregate bridging and microcracking
around the crack tip and exhibits a post peak softening behavior under tensile loading. It therefore
becomes necessary to include these effects for predicting reasonably well the residual strength of
existing cracked and damaged structures.
Bridging of coarse aggregate occurs when the crack advances beyond an aggregate that continues
to transmit stress across the crack until it ruptures or is pulled out. The bridging aggregate may be
considered to exert a closing pressure on the crack surface thereby resisting the crack growth and its
magnitude strongly depends on the interfacial properties between coarse aggregate and cement
mortar. Upon loading of plain concrete beams under three point bending, it is

Developing Applications Algorithms For Various Projects
Due to my previous experience working in developing optimized algorithms for various projects,
I was invited by my supervisor to join a large and challenging project to help a fast growing
health care company adapt to new working environment and develop a functional billing
process. Fortunately, during my college, I had courses and trainings that gave me the
foundation to identify workplaces and optimized algorithms for each one. Combined with years
of experience, I was ready to show my engineering skills in a large and challenging project. I
attended multiple meetings with my supervisor and other team members and we talked and
brainstormed about this project for days. CE3.6The first step in this project was accurate data
collection and I was responsible to observe the current process of operation and gather as much
data as possible that helps the team to develop the working processes for smooth and optimized
operation. In the first step, I introduced myself to the client s staff and explained that I need to
have access to certain data and operation procedures to get an accurate understating about the
current status of the company. It was a challenging step, because the data I required from the
company was often mixed with patient s data that made it impossible to share with third party.
Therefore, I decided that I would visit the company in operation and collect the data in person.
Upon my visit, I noticed the billing process and coding involves many parties including

Gpr Structure
The understanding and studying of the GPCR structure is very important for designing the right
drugs. Studies have shown that some of the GPCRs are not pРѕtential drug targets because their
physiological function cannot be related to disease. Such GPCRs include the sensРѕry (olfactory,
taste) receptРѕrs and thus, leave 369 GPCRs that are pРѕtential drug targets (Gloriam et al., 2007).
46 of these are being targeted successfully by drugs the rhodopsin , secretin and glutamate like
receptor families. ОІ adrenergic, angiotensin II and vasopressin receptors are examples of GPCRs
that are lРѕcated in the membranes of cardiac cells and play key role in regulatiРѕn of the cardiac

Rimonabant is an agent that is an inverse agonist of the CB1 receptor but is known to have
antagonist actions. As a result of those actions it reduces obesity and smoking cessation but has
side effects such as nausea, emesis, depression and anxiety (Despres et al., 2005) which were
shown to be the opposite effects of CB1 agonists. Therefore, novel drugs might be neutral
antagonists and it has been suggested that they would not cause such side effects. Laboratory
studies provided evidence that inverse agonists (e.g. rimonabant) reduce fРѕРѕd intake and body
weight, but cause gastrointestinal side effects in rats, while neutral antagonists (e.g. AM6545,
AM4113) also reduce fРѕРѕd intake and weight, but do not cause such adverse side effects in the
same animal models (Cluny et al., 2010; Cluny et al., 2011). Therefore, neutral antagonists are
thought to be potential drugs for GPCRs, if acting without any side effects (in the case of CB1
provide action like rimonabant but do not cause gastrointestinal irritation or alter mood), but more
studies and experiments need to be done in order to provide evidence and release such drugs on the

This threat is the force of the model which would shape the competitive nature of the fashion and

The fashion and apparel industry is one of high profits and this is why it has attracted many
competitors. Since there is a slow growth increase within the industry this has increased the
competition and this has caused an increase in the amount of competitors especially quite a bit of
small entrants within the industry. New potential entrants wishing to enter the industry can have an
adverse effect on the existing competitors within the industry which cause issues with the
competitive side of the apparel industry.
The cost to enter the apparel and fashion industry does not require a large amount f capital by new
entrants; costs may end up being high due to the economies of scale. Hence why because of the
overpowering demand of products, the economies of scale cannot be attained by competitors

Beautiful Mind Diagnosis
Synopsis
I watched A Beautiful Mind for this project. The movie is based on the real life experiences of
John Nash. The film begins with Nash arriving at Princeton University for his first year. We are
introduced to many of the main characters in the first few minutes of the film. We meet his
enemy, who Nash believes he is smarter that, and his roommate who drinks too much but is
always there as a helping hand for John. As Nash begins his collegiate career we begin to see
some early symptoms of his disorder. Nash is a gifted math student obsessed with finding a new
way to predict patterns. He studies pigeons, his classmates as they play football outside his dorm
window, and even the way his classmates talk to women at the bar. We see Nash... Show more

The friend looked like he was fearful of John and what he might do. Many times people viewed
Nash as dangerous and insane. Most of the characters carried a negative attitude toward mental
illness in general, except for John s wife Alicia. She is supportive and wants John to get better so
he can get back to being the man she married . Alicia s attitude toward his mental illness was
understanding and supportive, while also pushing him to get better. The mental health
professional in this movie is Dr. Rosen, who is only seen a few times in the whole movie. He is
portrayed as a reasonable, logical man who is only there to help. Hyler s stereotypes of mental
illness can be applied to this movie also. Instead of Nash and his disorder portraying him as a
homicidal manic or the like, Nash was portrayed as another stereotype of Hyler s that is rarely
depicted in modern films, the enlightened member of society. Nash is the enlightened member of
society who envisions great things and appears to be a well balanced individual, even with his
delusions at the beginning of the movie. This stereotype contradicts our usual view of individuals

Symptoms And Symptoms Of Panic Disorder
A mental illness is the same as a physical illness or disease; it follows a certain pattern, consists of
a multitude of symptoms and has the potential to be treated. The only difference is that a mental
illness affects the brain and the mind, and in today s society, has negative connotations associated
with it. Mental illness is just as biological as any physical disease, and can be just as serious and
devastating to the individual. One mental illness, in particular, is believed to be very common and
easily reversible: panic disorder. This illness is classified under the DSM 5 as an anxiety disorder,
and it is separate from panic attacks, which by themselves are not a disorder (American
Psychiatric Association, 2013). Panic attacks, are a symptom of panic disorder, and can be
experienced by anyone, both those with and without the disorder. Panic disorder is a mental
disease characterized by specific criteria, risk factors and etiologies particular to itself. Panic
disorder is defined as, recurrent unexpected panic attacks (American Psychiatric Association, 2013,
p. 208). A panic attackis a heightened sense of fear or discomfort that swells and reaches a climax;
the entire event last around 10 minutes (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). An unexpected
panic attack means that there is no trigger that sets off the attack, they occurs seemingly random
(American Psychiatric Association, 2013). During these attacks, in order for it to be considered
panic disorder, at

Global Security Challenges Facing The United States Military
There will be significant global security challenges facing the United States Military by 2025. The
U.S will face multiple, coinciding security issues from state actors and regional networks all taking
full benefit of rapid science and technological changes. Three overlapping conflicts which has the
greatest potential to influence state and non state actors and forcethe Armed Forces to restructure
their formations are Wars of Silicon, Iron, and Shadow. The United States must design an
innovative readiness and investment strategy to successfully deal with all three. These innovative
concepts support Combatant Commanders so; they can win in full spectrum operations and defend
U.S. interests at home and overseas. QDR 2014 provides the framework to counter these threats,
which are, rebalance for full spectrum conflicts, prioritize U.S. posture to protect U.S. interest, and
rebalance the capability, capacity, and readiness of the Joint Force. Joint Force 2025 will need to

Evil spreads around the world. It makes people do bad things to each other so it creates
dangerous environment. Therefore people makes place which is called prison to punish these bad
people. The persons who live in prison are called inmates. Most of inmates who are dangerous and
guilty spend many years in prison because of crimes they did in the past. In the USA, there are
many prisons because it has hugs population. In this paper, it will be mentioned Shwshank prison
which is in Ohio. The shawshank redemption provides an exciting movie on the life of inmates at
the Shawshank prison. The movie draws the attention for audience. As a result, a critique of the

All my life they explained to me the importance of an education. You ve got to get your
education! It s the only way to get ahead in the world were the words told to Sotomayor by her
mother. Words that I heard my entire life. My parents instilled in me that one day I could have
something far beyond what they do. Intertwined in the pages of Sotomayor s book is an account
of her Mother s efforts to keep her children educated. On one occasion her mother bought them
educational textbooks to study and even paid to get her children lessons. Like her mother, my
parents opened a world of possibility for me too. They worked extra shifts to get me music
lessons, waited outside of school an extra hour when I had events, and payed for me to stay in
sports. They went far and beyond to secure an education for me and my sisters. The world
branched out before me in a thousand new directions. explains Sotomayor of the learning
experiences her mother exposed her to. My parents are an essential link in what my career goals
have become.
A major step towards pursuing my career was deciding on a college to attend. Visiting TWU was
like a breath of fresh air. Like Sotomayor with Princeton, I immediately made a firm decision to
make it my school. Ironically, Sotomayor s moment of distress when she visited Radcliffe was a
lot like the one I experienced when I visited the University of Texas in Arlington. Relating my
important life decisions to those of judge Sotomayor has been reassuring. I had a lot of insecurities
about not being good enough at TWU. Sometimes, however, I tend to sell myself

Genre Analysis Across Genres
Over many years, genre has become an important role in everyone s life. Scholarly authors such as
Winsor, Pare, Berkenkotter, and Huckin, have noticed this trend and how it is important for people
to understand this concept in order to understand writing. Some of these trends are noticeable in
social groups such as businesses, educational settings, and other discourse communities in which
they all were simplified to a specific standard within their group. These genres will facilitate
activities, impact social relationships, identities, and structure communities. It is important to know
that not all communities will share common genres; in fact, they might vary heavily.
In the field of education, there is a difference between school reports of students and state reports of
students. It is common for these reports to have the same information, but at the same time, there is
also information that will vary. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Genres have the basic ability to facilitate the activities in which a group or individual partakes in.
As we saw in the state and local reports, they had some similar information such as graphs and
charts with state or local assessments that students took, generic information on teachers and the
school, and also had to be accessible on varying platforms such as paper or computer to take into
consideration those who are not able to get either or. These ideas help shape the education
community such as who they are, and their goals to better students development. It is important for
education majors in college and current educators to understand how this process works so they
get the most out of the system. I know many education classes talk about teacher criteria and what
is expected of them. These norms have been created by state and government officials, and will
always play a role in how the education system

Macromolecules In Water Lab
Abstract: In this lab, we investigated the reason as to why our fingers prune up when we go
swimming or anything that has to with keeping our hands in water for a while. Six cut pairs of
dialysis tubing (12 cm) were placed in water for five minutes so that it would form. After it was
done forming, we filled it with three different types of NaCl concentrationsolutions,(1%,10%, and
50%). We placed the six different dialysis tubing filled with the solutions and placed it into the
400 mL beakers with either the 1%, 10%, or 50% for forty minutes. At the end we calculated the
weight difference of each dialysis tube to determine how water moves across the skin when soaked
in water.

Abstract
This paper seeks to describe the management experience for women in Spain, concentrating on the

Because of this approach, the empirical sample of female managers is small, comprising of five
female managers from a total of 60 managers interviewed, but is representative of levels of female
management within the organisations and industries participating.
This research used company visits, over 60 semi structured interviews with selected practising
managers in key companies, and periods of non participatory observation inside companies within
Spain. Managers were selected by interview from a wide variety of Spanish businesses. The aim
was to examine management

in Spain in general, and to try to discern if there were issues common to female managers. The
sample included companies with various forms of governance. With the importance of the state
sector in Spain, and the dominance of multinational companies (MNCs), as well as a significant
number of family owned large and medium sized businesses, it was important to include companies
from each sector by ownership. This included Spanish owned MNCs, Spanish owned national
companies, Spanish owned regional companies, and Foreign owned MNCs. The emphasis was on
the manufacturing industry. This is primarily because these companies are strategically placed
within the business infrastructure. A limitation of the sample drawn from this is that it does not
offer a complete view of female mangers in the retail services for example. In

Charlie Chaplin Contributions
Charlie Chaplin was a very important British comedian, director, writer, and composer in the
entertainment industry during the 1920 s. He was born on April 16, 1889, in London, England.
Both of his parents were both in the entertainment industry, which would reflect how he became
apart of the entertainment industry, too. When he was 12, he would play the role as a paperboy
in the show, Sherlock Holmes. This would be his first ever stage show. After this, he would
realize what he wanted to do, and that was to become a comedian in vaudeville, which would
also take him to the United States in 1910 as a featured actor with the Fred Karno Repertoire
Company. This would be the start of a career that would last and be famous for it, too. As being
part of the Karno troupe, he would get his first tastes of America. He would also immediately
grab the attention of Americans through his sketch named, A Night in an English Music Hall.
When the Fred Karno troupe left and came back to America in the fall of 1912 for a repeat tour,
Chaplin would be given the chance to be part of a motion picture contract. He would finally
agree to be apart of the movie at the end of his vaudeville promises in November 1913. Once he
was able to tear apart from the contract, he was able to do so much more. Chaplin would end up
joining Mack Sennett and the Keystone Film Company. There were also other plays, such as his
famous films, Making A Living, and also, Kids Auto Races at Venice. These shows

Creon As The Tragic Hero In Antigone By Sophocles
Tragic heroes are not symbols of virtue nor possess any significant evil, yet their flaws are
magnified by the power they hold. Most individuals in society do not seek to bring harm to
others. Their intentions are based on their principles of righteousness and doctrine, and these
individuals can often be great leaders who are forced to make difficult decisions. However, even
the most honor bound persons can be greatly influenced by the sin of pride; which can lead to the
suffering of others. In the play Antigone by Sophocles, Creon punishes Antigone for defying him.
This is not because Creon is evil, moreso because he justifies them as beneficial.Sophocles intends
to create an Aristotelian tragedy; using Creon as the tragic hero, in conjunction with supporting
thematic expressions shown throughout the play such as power and morality. Creon becomes the
primary conductor of tragedy in Antigone, providing catastrophe to befall on himself as well as
two main characters. Sophocles illustrates how it is unavoidable for a person in a high position of
power to cause harm to others. Haemon who is Antigone s husband suffers through the weight of
his wife s impending death. The overall tragic atmosphere of loss and suffering the author creates
stems from an intentional placement by the author as Sophocles as he illustrates the coexisting and
contrasting elements of divinity and civil law.
The suffering of others does not always stem from evil intentions, but more often from the

than others. Monster s Inc. is one of my favorites for a couple reasons. Its very realistic to a
certain extent but it lets your adult mind go back for a while. It may even help some adults
understand their child s imagination. The target audience, in my opinion are children but it can
also be for adults. At least the adult would be able to follow and relate to the storyline. This film
connects to its target audience by using colorful scenes and relatable grammar
to the age group watching. A lot of children see the bright pretty colors and want to see more

Financing Of Financing And Financing
I. Introduction
Financing methods of enterprises are categorized into the indirect financing and direct financing
depending on whether financial institutions such banks are involved in the financing process. The
indirect financing means financing acquired from financial institutions based on policy funds of the
government or funds formed by the financial institutions themselves. And the direct financing
means capital raising through stocks or private bonds issued in the capital market. For the last
several centuries, the financial markets have been dominated by the bank centric indirect financial
market. Today, however, the center of the financial market is moving toward the direct financial
market thanks to the development of the financial market. The capital market has become an
essential element not only of financing in the private sector but also of national economic
development, because the scope of financial transactions has expanded by a great deal by means of
securities such as stocks and bonds.
To look into the past stages of the Korean economic development, a bank centric financial system
was maintained at the earlier stages while the banks played the role of a window for capital supply
for the economic development. Later, beginning in the 1990s, the Korean capital market was
opened in a phased manner in the trend of the global financial opening. Then, the Korean financial
system started to be transformed to one centered on the capital market as the opening of

Explain the reasons for the adoption of a new calendar in revolutionary France and analyze

The adoption of the revolutionary calendar to replace the Gregorian calendar took place on

abolished it in 1806. The new calendar was a adopted in revolutionary France for many reasons
including secular ideas and political reasons. There were also many reactions to the change of

This shows that the new calendar was more secular because with the new calendar people began to
go to church less (Document 10). The new calendar in revolutionary France, showed how France
started to move towards a more secular world.
A lot of people agreed with the adoption of the new calendar by revolutionary France for many
reasons. Gilbert Romme, head of the calendar reform committee, believed that the church calendar
was born among ignorant people. He said Time opens a new book for history, and it must use a
new pen to record the annals of a regenerated France. What Romme means by this is that since
France is going through new times, they need to change the calendar to fit it (Document 2). In
Instruction Concerning the Era of the Republic and the Division of the Year which was a decree of
the National Convention, it said that the new calendar will eliminate incoherence and inexactitude.
This means that with the new calendar people will be more exact and orderly because of more
work days. It also states that the new calendar will show the character of our revolution (Document
5). In the letter to the National Convention from the village of St. Quirin, it says how the people
spend their day of rest. In the letter it says that they honor the memory of the generals who have

Intercultural Communication
With the growing of globalization, opportunities of intercultural communication become more
common to individuals everyday life. Thus, it is of vital importance that people understand
linguistic relativity and language ideologies in order to avoid misunderstandings and achieve
effective intercultural communication.
First of all, understanding linguistic relativity encourages people to pay attention to differences
between various languages. How people perceive and experience the world around them can be
influenced by language differences. (Piller, 2011) For example, people may act differently
depending on what languages they are using. Daniel Oh explained that in Korea, people need to use
honorifics in sentences when they speak to people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another aspect of linguistic relativity is communicative relativity. A simple way to define
communicative relativity is that people do different things with language differently . (Piller,
2011) On one hand, it is obvious that multilingual people tend to switch languages when talking
to people from different cultures. On the other hand, differentiation in language can also take
place in the monolingual situation. For instance, in the scene of debating, people may use a
very different form of English than usual. Kyle Ritchie said that the words, tone, and even
speaking styles used by myself and fellow debaters was purely for the performance . (reflection,
May 1, 2017) This kind of choices of words and tone is aimed to be more professional and
knowledgeable (reflection, May 1, 2017) Therefore, different ways of expression in various
languages or even the same language can have a different effect on communication. To succeed in
intercultural communication, it is necessary for individuals to understand the distinctive way each
language has to perceive the world and express ideas and make right decisions of using language.
In addition, in the intercultural communication, discrimination associated with language ideologies
often exists. Language ideology refers to the views on each language, especially the idea about
what a good language is and what is linguistically right . (Piller, 2011) Some

The Human Body And All The Organ System
The human body is in a constant state of movement even when seemingly still. This constant
movement is crucial for the human body and all the organ systems it contains. Movement although
overlooked is more complicate than many would believe. The human body has many functions
which are maintained by the movement of muscles and blood, as well as other bi products of the
organ systems. The Integumentary, Cardiovascular, and Tissue systems are capable of movement
both internal and external allowing for the continuous cycle that keeps the human body functioning.
The most important system that relies on movement is the Cardiovascular system. The
Cardiovascular system is mainly composed of the heart, blood vessels, and about 5.5 liters of
blood. ()The system itself is constantly moving, internally and externally.() The heart itself is a
muscular pumping organ that helps with the transport of oxygen and waste via the blood system.
() Specifically the pulmonary circulation, composed of the right atrium and ventricle, is primarily
used to transport deoxygenated blood from the right side of the heart to the lungs in which the
blood is filled with oxygen, returning to the heart and then transported by the systemic
circulation, composed of the left atrium and ventricle, which carries the blood to the rest of the
body. ()The systemic circulation also carries waste away from the tissue and carries deoxygenated
blood back to the heart.() Blood vessels are also a part of this process because

Driverless Cars Are Better
Driverless cars are safer than manual cars in many ways. I will explain why they are safer. The
first reason why is because of safety. Examples of this car having a lot of safety is that it
accelerates and stops more sharply, it prevents car accidents, and that it tells you where it needs
to go. What s useful about the acceleration and brakes is that they work really well. What s useful
about it preventing car accidents is that you wouldn t have to worry about getting hurt or killed.
What s useful about the radar that tells you where you need to go is that you can just sit and
enjoy the drive. The second reason why is because it is a lot easier. Examples of this car being a lot

Reviewing The Crash Of 1929 Essay
Reviewing the Crash of 1929
There have been many terrifying crashes in the stock market, the most recent being the crash in
2007 2008, however, nothing compares to the devastation of 1929. It remains the worst stock
market crash in history. It wiped a generation of investors away from the stock market.
Most of us know that 1929 was bad, but in this article, let s get down to the facts and numbers and
know how bad it really was.
Before we look at any other aspect, let s first see the extent of damage that was done during the
crash of 1929.
The important numbers in the 1929 crash The Dow Jones average peaked on September 3, 1929,
at 381.17 points. The crash started with a 13% fall on Black Monday, October 28, 1929, and
continued the next day on Black Tuesday, when the index tanked another 12%.
With intermittent rallies, the Dow continued to fall and had lost almost half its value by mid
November. Though the markets saw strong intermittent bear market rallies, the Dow hit its lowest
value of the 20th century on July 8, 1932, when the index closed at 41.22. That is a whopping
89.18% fall in just under three years.
It took the markets another 25 years to cross the peak closing of September 3, 1929, which it did
on November 12, 1954.
Stock market data preceding the crash After the end of the World War I, America was on the path
of recovery. The twenties saw great advances in industries, technology, construction, movies and
almost in every walk of life. The companies began

Historical Accuracy Of The Movie Troy
The historical action film Troy, inspired by Homer s Illiad follows the epic battle between the
city of Troy and the Greek army. It was released in 2004, and features some of Hollywood s best
such as Brad Pitt and Orlando Bloom. Other significant actors include Erica Bana, Brian Cox,
Julian Glover, Brendan Gleeson, Siri Svegler, and Diane Kruger. The film was directed by
Wolfgang Petersen and primarily produced by the Warner Brothers, Helena Productions, and Latina
Pictures, thus making the film an American Hollywood production. Troy was indeed filmed in the
Mediterranean, in specific locations such as Fort Ricasoli, Kalkara, and Malta. However, the city of

The final battle depicted in this film is known as the Sack of Troy. This movie seems accurate
when one is watching it. The detail incorporated into the introductory plot is realistic. For example,
the legends and tales they said about Achilles are viable, as many are aware that he was a great
warrior. The battles were gory and illustrated what a real ancient battle would resemble. Overall,
the film seemed realistic while watching it. The film shows the viewpoints of warriors and their
wives and family from the time period. Yet, it does not show the life of any sort of merchant or
farmer from then. The movie is solely about the battle, and it excludes anyone who is not royalty
or part of the army. An example of this is the final battle scene in Troy. The viewer is not shown
the repercussions of the war on anyone but those who fought. In addition, only one side of the
majority of the protagonist is shown. Achilles, for example, is depicted as a savage killer
throughout the entire film. Even when his own cousin dies, he responds by killing someone.
When his lover is abducted, he responds by proposing a battle. He is constantly illustrated in this
light. Although the general idea of the film may be correct, the historical facts are not. One of
the largest inaccuracies in the film is the length of the Battle of Troy. In reality, the battle lasted
over 10 years whilst in the film it lasts a mere 17 days. It would have made the film less exciting
to include what would seem to be 10 years of battle, so instead the filmmakers just compressed it
into a fraction of the real length of the war. Another inaccuracy is with the characters, and who
lives or dies. The order of fatality is skewed in the film, and many characters die in the film that
did not in the legend. For example, during the film Hector kills Menelaus during his duel against
Paris. However, in reality Menelaus

The Success Of Lincoln s Presidency
Throughout the history of mankind, there have been many influential leaders who have helped
to change the course of history for the better. Many of these leaders have faced incredible
challenges and overcome them despite facing seemingly insurmountable odds. On top of the
challenges faced, some leaders have had to overcome physical and mental disabilities. These
disabilities, while seemingly detrimental to a leader, have not always been a hindrance and have
even at times been a significant factor in their success. One of the most notable of these leaders
is United States President Abraham Lincoln. During Lincoln s life he suffered with episodes of
severe depression which continued into his presidency, a presidency that was plagued with
perhaps the greatest challenge in the history of our country, the Civil War. This battle with
depression, while challenging, also gave Lincoln wisdom in decision making and was one of the
contributing factors to the success of Lincoln s presidency. In order to understand the possible
ramifications that depression could play in the president s life we first need to understand mental
disorders and what they are. Mental illness can be defined as a health condition that changes a
person s thinking, feelings, or behavior or all three and that causes the person distress and difficulty
in functioning (Sutton 3). These mental disorders can vary in severity in each individual case from
very mild to extremely severe. The important

Rhetorical Analysis Of No Firemen At Ground Zero By...
Rhetorical Analysis September 11th, 2001 left a huge impact on people s lives all over the
country. Michael Burke, a wall street journalist, discusses 9/11 in the article, No Firemen at
Ground Zero This 9/11? . He expresses the bravery the first responders showed on the tragedy of 9
/11. On the 10th anniversary, the firemen were not invited to ground zero to watch the remembrance
ceremony. The committee that puts on the ceremony sent invitations to politicians, but not the
firefighters who put their lives on the line to save others. They were told they could watch on TV
instead. Burke is trying to show the businessmen of New York about how wrong not inviting the
first responders was, he does this with his descriptive narrative and organizational structure.
Imagery, initially, supports Burke s use of narrative in his piece. Burke forces the audienceto
picture the traumatic events that occurred that day and how they felt watching it unfold. Burke
uses descriptive words and phrases such as: bodies charred, bodies rained down, and they
exploded (4). These words help emphasize the horrible scene that was happening right in front of
their eyes. Citizens watched as workers jump out of the towers, choosing to commit suicide instead
of being crushed by falling the debris. These short phrases brings them to the images of bodies,
dead and destroyed, laying on the street. Additionally, he uses short one sentencelines to show what
the first responders sacrificed on 9/11.

  • 2. The Rise And Fall Of Spain The Social, Political and Economic Reasons of the Rise and Fall of Spain During the 15th century, many considered Spain insignificant. However, within a century it became a world dominant power in Europe. Although Spain only took a brief time to rise, it was also short lived. The rise of Spain was due to its flourishing culture, stable political system and successful voyages to the New World. On the other hand, its decline was due to religious control, resistance from other countries and inflation. The year 1469 held the marriage of two Catholic monarchs, Isabella I of Castile and Ferdinand of Aragon. Their marriage marked the unity of Spain and the beginning of a joint reign. The duo imposed a central religion and dialogue for their fellow Spaniards. To reunify Spain s religion they brought the church in order to control the corruption of the sale of indulgence. They also established the Spanish Inquisition that helped avoid challenges from the Reformation. It s was originally used to convert Jews and Islamic Moors, but was later used to punish those who questioned the Catholic Church. Isabella and Ferdinand s marriage later triggered the Golden Age, which is often interpreted as the age of learning. It increased the acknowledgement on the arts and literatures in cities and countless people became artists who later emerged as influential figures. With the help of many artists, Golden Age successfully uniformed the values of both socially and culturally Spaniards. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A particular focus is the interaction (intersection) between these elements and their effect on awareness, education, active prevention and early detection of cancer, particularly breast cancerin women. Cancer is a disease caused by a mutation and rapid division of cells. Cancer is a general term describing many diseases; essentially there is a wide array of types of cancers. Breast cancer is one of the more well known forms of cancer and is frequently touched upon or glazed over in discussion. A conversation may start with I know someone who has or had cancer but way to often this is where the conversation ends. The discussion on breast cancer needs to expand, to further the spread of information and understanding of the many aspects of this disease. Breast cancer is a malignant tumor that starts in the cells of the breast. A malignant tumor is a group of cancer cells that can grow into (invade) surrounding tissues or spread (metastasize) to distant areas of the body (What is Breast cancer). • 4. To What Extent Were African-American Slaves в ЂњFree” After... Abstract: To what extent were African American slaves free after the abolition of slavery by the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863? What challenges did they face after their emancipation? This is a subject of continued interest. History is rife with records of decades of untold torture and harrowing experiences. African American slaves suffered at the hands of their captors and masters. They were denied all natural rights as human beings and forced to live like animals. A slave was viewed as one third of a person and the property of their owner(s) and treated as objects, mere things. One would therefore assume that after their emancipation, life would become significantly better because the slaves were free to move away from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Being pregnant did not spare a slave woman the whip or rod. A hole was dug for her to rest her belly while being whipped. They were also at constant risk of losing members of their families if their owners decided to sell them for profit, punishment, or to pay debts. Slavery indeed was dehumanizing in every sense of the word. The Declaration of Emancipation was monumental, and came with the renewed sense of hope that life after their emancipation would become significantly better. Being free, the former slaves envisaged being able to live with a sense of purpose and pride in a land ripe with a cornucopia of opportunities waiting to be capitalized on. Spirits were high and celebration took place as ideas and fantasies of a rich lifestyle with a good standard of living were being formulated.[1] For some ex slaves, their dreams became somewhat of a reality as their fight for survival during slavery helped them develop the wits needed to succeed in their new found world. Unfortunately, there were many tragic disappointments, as nearly all the slaves that were emancipated were forced to return back to their old masters after leaving the plantations, starving and diseased.[2] Many were not able to survive on their own. This came as a result of both internal and external forces being somewhat trapped by their own helplessness, insecurities, lack of knowledge[3] and still viewed as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Many news outlets such as the New Yorker have provided information about the war but what stands out from the others are there covers. The New Yorker use many covers reflecting both on the war itself and on the impact of the conflict on American culture. From these two covers we can see how the New Yorkerhas chosen the repetition of war to portray these covers from this important cultural event, as well as which scenes were chosen for portrayal, can help to show how Americans at the time viewed the war itself, and its impact on their culture which of it were most important to people at the time. Published in September 5, 1942 by the same artist Constantine Alajalov, we can see by the first view of the cover on how the war has impacted the American industry. During the time of the war, many able bodied men were either getting trained or in combat and with the high demand of labor for war industries, many women for the first time have entered the work force performing jobs that usually only men can handle. From this cover we see both men and women taking their lunch breaks, the interesting part is how they re being represented. In one side we see the men all dispirited from their work in plain darken clothes, while we see the women sitting in a circle all talking and laughing dressed in bright colorful clothes. This possibly reflects the different attitudes toward their work of the two groups. The women depicted here seems very pleased with the work they re doing and helping as much as they can in the war, since before WWII they only been able to help in limited ways. On the other hand, the men working here have likely been rejected by the army, who would prefer to be fighting than working in a factory. Constantin Alajalov painted this picture possibly to show how it reflects the different attitudes toward work which the American people had based upon their gender and their situations, as well as some tensions in which the war has created. These two pictures have a deeper meaning within it, possibly the artist wanted to show how young soldiers would viewed if they joined and an outcome how the war effected the ... Therefore, it is essential to study the influence of each material constituent in order to estimate the residual strength of the structural components. Thus, failure of concreteis a complex phenomenon due to its multiscale and multiphase nature. When the normal stress in a material reaches its tensile strength, the inhomogeneities in concrete promote the formation of an inelastic zone ahead of an existing crack termed as the fracture process zone (FPZ). The FPZ is dominated by various complicated mechanisms such as crack shielding, crack deflection, aggregate bridging and microcracking around the crack tip and exhibits a post peak softening behavior under tensile loading. It therefore becomes necessary to include these effects for predicting reasonably well the residual strength of existing cracked and damaged structures. Bridging of coarse aggregate occurs when the crack advances beyond an aggregate that continues to transmit stress across the crack until it ruptures or is pulled out. The bridging aggregate may be considered to exert a closing pressure on the crack surface thereby resisting the crack growth and its magnitude strongly depends on the interfacial properties between coarse aggregate and cement mortar. Upon loading of plain concrete beams under three point bending, it is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Developing Applications Algorithms For Various Projects Due to my previous experience working in developing optimized algorithms for various projects, I was invited by my supervisor to join a large and challenging project to help a fast growing health care company adapt to new working environment and develop a functional billing process. Fortunately, during my college, I had courses and trainings that gave me the foundation to identify workplaces and optimized algorithms for each one. Combined with years of experience, I was ready to show my engineering skills in a large and challenging project. I attended multiple meetings with my supervisor and other team members and we talked and brainstormed about this project for days. CE3.6The first step in this project was accurate data collection and I was responsible to observe the current process of operation and gather as much data as possible that helps the team to develop the working processes for smooth and optimized operation. In the first step, I introduced myself to the client s staff and explained that I need to have access to certain data and operation procedures to get an accurate understating about the current status of the company. It was a challenging step, because the data I required from the company was often mixed with patient s data that made it impossible to share with third party. Therefore, I decided that I would visit the company in operation and collect the data in person. Upon my visit, I noticed the billing process and coding involves many parties including ... As a result of those actions it reduces obesity and smoking cessation but has side effects such as nausea, emesis, depression and anxiety (Despres et al., 2005) which were shown to be the opposite effects of CB1 agonists. Therefore, novel drugs might be neutral antagonists and it has been suggested that they would not cause such side effects. Laboratory studies provided evidence that inverse agonists (e.g. rimonabant) reduce fРѕРѕd intake and body weight, but cause gastrointestinal side effects in rats, while neutral antagonists (e.g. AM6545, AM4113) also reduce fРѕРѕd intake and weight, but do not cause such adverse side effects in the same animal models (Cluny et al., 2010; Cluny et al., 2011). Symptoms And Symptoms Of Panic Disorder A mental illness is the same as a physical illness or disease; it follows a certain pattern, consists of a multitude of symptoms and has the potential to be treated. The only difference is that a mental illness affects the brain and the mind, and in today s society, has negative connotations associated with it. Mental illness is just as biological as any physical disease, and can be just as serious and devastating to the individual. One mental illness, in particular, is believed to be very common and easily reversible: panic disorder. This illness is classified under the DSM 5 as an anxiety disorder, and it is separate from panic attacks, which by themselves are not a disorder (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). Panic attacks, are a symptom of panic disorder, and can be experienced by anyone, both those with and without the disorder. Panic disorder is a mental disease characterized by specific criteria, risk factors and etiologies particular to itself. Panic disorder is defined as, recurrent unexpected panic attacks (American Psychiatric Association, 2013, p. 208). A panic attackis a heightened sense of fear or discomfort that swells and reaches a climax; the entire event last around 10 minutes (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). • 29. Creon As The Tragic Hero In Antigone By Sophocles Tragic heroes are not symbols of virtue nor possess any significant evil, yet their flaws are magnified by the power they hold. Most individuals in society do not seek to bring harm to others. Their intentions are based on their principles of righteousness and doctrine, and these individuals can often be great leaders who are forced to make difficult decisions. However, even the most honor bound persons can be greatly influenced by the sin of pride; which can lead to the suffering of others. In the play Antigone by Sophocles, Creon punishes Antigone for defying him. This is not because Creon is evil, moreso because he justifies them as beneficial.Sophocles intends to create an Aristotelian tragedy; using Creon as the tragic hero, in conjunction with supporting thematic expressions shown throughout the play such as power and morality. Creon becomes the primary conductor of tragedy in Antigone, providing catastrophe to befall on himself as well as two main characters. Sophocles illustrates how it is unavoidable for a person in a high position of power to cause harm to others. Haemon who is Antigone s husband suffers through the weight of his wife s impending death. • 31. Financing Of Financing And Financing I. Introduction Financing methods of enterprises are categorized into the indirect financing and direct financing depending on whether financial institutions such banks are involved in the financing process. The indirect financing means financing acquired from financial institutions based on policy funds of the government or funds formed by the financial institutions themselves. And the direct financing means capital raising through stocks or private bonds issued in the capital market. For the last several centuries, the financial markets have been dominated by the bank centric indirect financial market. Today, however, the center of the financial market is moving toward the direct financial market thanks to the development of the financial market. The capital market has become an essential element not only of financing in the private sector but also of national economic development, because the scope of financial transactions has expanded by a great deal by means of securities such as stocks and bonds. The new calendar in revolutionary France, showed how France started to move towards a more secular world. A lot of people agreed with the adoption of the new calendar by revolutionary France for many reasons. Gilbert Romme, head of the calendar reform committee, believed that the church calendar was born among ignorant people. He said Time opens a new book for history, and it must use a new pen to record the annals of a regenerated France. What Romme means by this is that since France is going through new times, they need to change the calendar to fit it (Document 2). Thus, it is of vital importance that people understand linguistic relativity and language ideologies in order to avoid misunderstandings and achieve effective intercultural communication. First of all, understanding linguistic relativity encourages people to pay attention to differences between various languages. How people perceive and experience the world around them can be influenced by language differences. (Piller, 2011) For example, people may act differently depending on what languages they are using. Another aspect of linguistic relativity is communicative relativity. A simple way to define communicative relativity is that people do different things with language differently . (Piller, 2011) On one hand, it is obvious that multilingual people tend to switch languages when talking to people from different cultures. On the other hand, differentiation in language can also take place in the monolingual situation. For instance, in the scene of debating, people may use a very different form of English than usual. Kyle Ritchie said that the words, tone, and even speaking styles used by myself and fellow debaters was purely for the performance . (reflection, May 1, 2017) This kind of choices of words and tone is aimed to be more professional and knowledgeable (reflection, May 1, 2017) Therefore, different ways of expression in various languages or even the same language can have a different effect on communication. To succeed in intercultural communication, it is necessary for individuals to understand the distinctive way each language has to perceive the world and express ideas and make right decisions of using language. In addition, in the intercultural communication, discrimination associated with language ideologies often exists. Language ideology refers to the views on each language, especially the idea about what a good language is and what is linguistically right . (Piller, 2011) Some ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This constant movement is crucial for the human body and all the organ systems it contains. Movement although overlooked is more complicate than many would believe. The human body has many functions which are maintained by the movement of muscles and blood, as well as other bi products of the organ systems. The Integumentary, Cardiovascular, and Tissue systems are capable of movement both internal and external allowing for the continuous cycle that keeps the human body functioning. The most important system that relies on movement is the Cardiovascular system. The Cardiovascular system is mainly composed of the heart, blood vessels, and about 5.5 liters of blood. ()The system itself is constantly moving, internally and externally.() The heart itself is a muscular pumping organ that helps with the transport of oxygen and waste via the blood system. () Specifically the pulmonary circulation, composed of the right atrium and ventricle, is primarily used to transport deoxygenated blood from the right side of the heart to the lungs in which the blood is filled with oxygen, returning to the heart and then transported by the systemic circulation, composed of the left atrium and ventricle, which carries the blood to the rest of the body. ()The systemic circulation also carries waste away from the tissue and carries deoxygenated blood back to the heart.() Blood vessels are also a part of this process because ... • 40. Historical Accuracy Of The Movie Troy The historical action film Troy, inspired by Homer s Illiad follows the epic battle between the city of Troy and the Greek army. It was released in 2004, and features some of Hollywood s best such as Brad Pitt and Orlando Bloom. Other significant actors include Erica Bana, Brian Cox, Julian Glover, Brendan Gleeson, Siri Svegler, and Diane Kruger. The film was directed by Wolfgang Petersen and primarily produced by the Warner Brothers, Helena Productions, and Latina Pictures, thus making the film an American Hollywood production. Troy was indeed filmed in the Mediterranean, in specific locations such as Fort Ricasoli, Kalkara, and Malta. However, the city of Troy pictured in the film is indeed a set that was constructed in the Mediterranean.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The final battle depicted in this film is known as the Sack of Troy. This movie seems accurate when one is watching it. The detail incorporated into the introductory plot is realistic. For example, the legends and tales they said about Achilles are viable, as many are aware that he was a great warrior. The battles were gory and illustrated what a real ancient battle would resemble. Overall, the film seemed realistic while watching it. The film shows the viewpoints of warriors and their wives and family from the time period. Yet, it does not show the life of any sort of merchant or farmer from then. The movie is solely about the battle, and it excludes anyone who is not royalty or part of the army. An example of this is the final battle scene in Troy. The viewer is not shown the repercussions of the war on anyone but those who fought. In addition, only one side of the majority of the protagonist is shown. Achilles, for example, is depicted as a savage killer throughout the entire film. Even when his own cousin dies, he responds by killing someone. When his lover is abducted, he responds by proposing a battle. He is constantly illustrated in this light. Although the general idea of the film may be correct, the historical facts are not. One of the largest inaccuracies in the film is the length of the Battle of Troy. In reality, the battle lasted over 10 years whilst in the film it lasts a mere 17 days. It would have made the film less exciting to include what would seem to be 10 years of battle, so instead the filmmakers just compressed it into a fraction of the real length of the war. Another inaccuracy is with the characters, and who lives or dies. The order of fatality is skewed in the film, and many characters die in the film that did not in the legend. For example, during the film Hector kills Menelaus during his duel against Paris. However, in reality Menelaus ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 42. The Success Of Lincoln s Presidency Throughout the history of mankind, there have been many influential leaders who have helped to change the course of history for the better. Many of these leaders have faced incredible challenges and overcome them despite facing seemingly insurmountable odds. On top of the challenges faced, some leaders have had to overcome physical and mental disabilities. These disabilities, while seemingly detrimental to a leader, have not always been a hindrance and have even at times been a significant factor in their success. One of the most notable of these leaders is United States President Abraham Lincoln. During Lincoln s life he suffered with episodes of severe depression which continued into his presidency, a presidency that was plagued with perhaps the greatest challenge in the history of our country, the Civil War. This battle with depression, while challenging, also gave Lincoln wisdom in decision making and was one of the contributing factors to the success of Lincoln s presidency. In order to understand the possible ramifications that depression could play in the president s life we first need to understand mental disorders and what they are. Mental illness can be defined as a health condition that changes a person s thinking, feelings, or behavior or all three and that causes the person distress and difficulty in functioning (Sutton 3). These mental disorders can vary in severity in each individual case from very mild to extremely severe. The important ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Michael Burke, a wall street journalist, discusses 9/11 in the article, No Firemen at Ground Zero This 9/11? . He expresses the bravery the first responders showed on the tragedy of 9 /11. On the 10th anniversary, the firemen were not invited to ground zero to watch the remembrance ceremony. The committee that puts on the ceremony sent invitations to politicians, but not the firefighters who put their lives on the line to save others. They were told they could watch on TV instead. Burke is trying to show the businessmen of New York about how wrong not inviting the first responders was, he does this with his descriptive narrative and organizational structure. Imagery, initially, supports Burke s use of narrative in his piece. Burke forces the audienceto picture the traumatic events that occurred that day and how they felt watching it unfold. Burke uses descriptive words and phrases such as: bodies charred, bodies rained down, and they exploded (4). These words help emphasize the horrible scene that was happening right in front of their eyes. Citizens watched as workers jump out of the towers, choosing to commit suicide instead of being crushed by falling the debris. These short phrases brings them to the images of bodies, dead and destroyed, laying on the street. Additionally, he uses short one sentencelines to show what the first responders sacrificed on 9/11. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
