2. The Ishtar Gate Was The 7 Wonders Of The Ancient World
The Ishtar Gate was built by constructed by King Nebuchadnezzar II in 575 BCE.
It was one of eight gates built of the inner city of Babylon which today is Iraq. This
gate was the main entrance into the great city of Babylon. The Ishtar Gate was so
well known that it made the list of the seven wonders of the ancient world, but was
later replaced with the lighthouse of Alexandra. Some people to this day still say
that the Gate of Ishtar should still be one of the seven wonders. What makes this
gate so wonderful and great that it used to be considered one of the seven wonders
of the ancient world? The Ishtar gate was dedicated to the Babylongoddess Ishtar.
Ishtar was the goddess of fertility, love, war, and sex. On the gate there are three
types of animals a lion, dragon, and a bull. The lion is represented of the goddess
Ishtar. The other two the bull and the dragon Nebuchadnezzar had put in to pay
homage to two other gods. The young bull represented Adad and the dragon
represented Marduk. Adad was the god of the weather and Marduk was the
national god of Babylon. The goddess Ishtar is a Mesopotamian goddess that stands
for war and sexual love. In the Sumerian tradition the goddess Ishtar takes the role as
a fertility figure. But she is also a much more complex character she is always
surrounded by death and disaster within her myths. The Akkadian Ishtar was the
protector of prostitutes and the patroness of the alehouse. Her worship in this religion
3. The Land Of Opportunity By Loewen
Millennials form the majority of the United States population, outnumbering Baby
Boomers by eleven million. Higher education is now more crucial for securing a
middle class lifestyle than ever before, yet for the majority, the cost for a bachelor s
degree has become prohibitively expensive. In The Land of Opportunity , Loewen
contends that high school education methodically avoids a critical dialogue of
socioeconomic inequality in America. The social classto which a student belongs
greatly influences their capacity for upward mobility. If higher educationis a
requirement for improved economic status, then students in the lower class are
already disadvantaged. Loewen quotes Theodore Sizer, If you are the child of low
income parents, the chances are good that you will receive limited and often careless
attention from adults in your high school (qtd. in Loewen, 203). High school students
cannot look to the classroom to prepare them for real world power dynamics. If left to
their own devices, adolescents may be influenced by skewed allegories in fictional
entertainment media. Parents must use educational resources to prompt critical
thinking about socioeconomic inequality in order to prepare America s youth for
securing their futures. Though there may be little to no exposure to these ideas in the
classroom, students will encounter them as they consume mass entertainment media.
Social class disparity has long been a reoccurring theme in film. Adolescents and
young adults
4. Ba, Ti O Atoms Has Been Considerably Changed. The Three
Ba, Ti O atoms has been considerably changed. The three dimensional view of
enlarged portion of Ba O and Ti O bonds for three different Sr doping levels is given
in figure 2.32. The increasing incorporation of Sr in the crystal structure of BaTiO3
increases the volume of the electron density distribution around Ba atom. The
reduction in the bond lengths of Ba O and Ti O has also been clearly visualized from
this figure.
To analyze the nature of bonding qualitatively, 2D electrondensity contour maps
have been constructed for the Sr doped samples for three different crystallographic
planes, with contour interval of 0.04 e/Г…3. Figure 2.33(a) shows the 3D unit cell
of BST with (100) plane shaded and (b), (c) (d) represent 2D electron ... Show more

The density of the contour lines along the Ti O bonding region increases with the
increasing doping levels of Sr. The overlapping of contour lines along Ti O bond
exhibits the covalent nature of bonding which is due to the result of hybridization
between the O 2p and Ti 3d orbitals. When the smaller Sr ion is substituted at the
lattice site of larger Ba, the volume of the unit cell become smaller and Ti ions can
be in good touch with all the O ions which increases the covalent nature of Ti O bond.
The quantitative analysis of chemical bonding between the constituent atoms has
been carried out by drawing the 1D electron density line profiles for Ba O and Ti O
bond. Figure 2.36 shows the 1D electron density line profiles for Ba O bond for
three different Sr concentrations. Figure 2.37 shows the 1D electron density line
profiles for Ti O bond for three different Sr concentrations.
The bond lengths and mid bond electron density values for Ba O and Ti O bonds of
Ba1 xSrxTiO3 (x=0.2, 0.4 0.6) are given in table 2.15. The value of mid bond
electron density along Ba O bond decreases with respect to Sr incorporation. The
values of electron density show the increase in ionic nature of the prepared samples
due to Sr doping. Along the Ti O bond, the mid bond density values show increasing
trend with the addition of Sr content which confirms the decrement in ionic nature
5. Social Movement Theory Framing, Political Opportunities,...
Do the three core concepts of social movement theory framing, political opportunities,
and mobilizing structures provide an adequate account of the emergence of social
movements?
Social movements have been a fundamental part of civilization s freedom. It is the
bridge that takes social grievances to the polity. Without this connection, people
would not be able to express their concerns freely. A social movementis much more
than just spontaneous uprisings with no organization; they are a complex
organization that require detailed analysis to understand where they come from. In
this sense, I would be devoting my time to analyze the different factors that cause
the rise and development of social movements. I will consider a social movement as
organized yet informal social entities that are engaged in extra institutional conflict
that is oriented towards a goal. These goals can be either aimed at a specific and
narrow policy or be more broadly aimed at cultural change (Christiansen, 1, 2009).
Consequently, it would be naГЇve to propose any explanation that relies solely on a
single factor as the reason for the emergence of a social movement. Any meaningful
analysis here has to happen through the understanding of multiple factors (both
endogenous and exogenous), as well as their interaction, which collectively culminate
in any given type of social movement. More importantly, it is key to understand that
every social movement is the product of the previously mentioned
6. Slavery and Self-Esteem
Self esteem Self esteem is a term used to describe self evaluation. The term self
evaluation is used to express that self esteem is a product of personal reflection. A
person with a high self esteem has positive self regard while a person with low self
esteem has negative self regard. Self esteem can be impacted by several external
factors and is most impacted in the childhood years. Individuals who feel respected
in their childhood are more likely to develop high self esteem. Signs of respect
include being listened to and being given attention. Such actions make a child feel
loved and valued. Children who are exposed to more disrespectful actions like
abuse, or harsh criticism are more likely to develop a low self esteem. The formation

The late 20th century demonstrated a shift from the belief in racial taxonomy. The
essence of this shift is perfectly communicated by Gloria A. Marshall in her
statement, there can be little or no justification for the continued use of the race
concept. She made this bold statement as evidence was found that indicated that the
finite classifications of different racial groups were not finite after all. Marshall
argues that labeling race as a species subcategory is obsurd because the human
population cannot possibly show any evolutionary splits. This belief is based on the
fact that groups of humans were not separated in such a way that they were exposed
to different evolutionary forces and events under complete or effective genetic
isolation. If this is no true species subcategory for Homo sapiens then, what is race? It
s fictitious, entirely manmade according to many researcher of the late 20th century.
The idea that race is a social construct is supported by the simple fact that the races
that people think they can visually identity do not necessarily have any biological
elements that can confirm the validity of that identity. But, still we use race a
primary identifier. Such biological identifiers that mimic, but are not supported
7. Essay on Biography of St Thomas Becket
St Thomas Becket (December 21, 1118 December 29, 1170) was Archbishop of
Canterbury from 1162 to 1170. He engaged in a conflict with King Henry II over the
rights and privileges of the Church and was assassinated by followers of the king in
Canterbury Cathedral.
Life before his consecration
Thomas Becket (also known as Thomas Г Becket, although many people consider
this incorrect)[1] was born in London sometime between 1115 and 1120, though
most authorities agree that he was born December 21, 1118, at Cheapside, to
Gilbert of Thierceville, Normandy, and Rosea or Matilda of Caen. His parents were
of the upper middle class near Rouen, and Thomas never knew hardship as a child.

This created both a hardship and a resentment of Becket among the English
Churchmen. To further implicate Becket as a secular man, he became an
accomplished and extravagant courtier and a cheerful companion to the king s
pleasures. Young Thomas was devoted to his master s interests with such a firm and
yet diplomatic thoroughness that scarcely anyone, except perhaps John of Salisbury,
doubted his allegiance to English royalty.
King Henry even sent his son Henry, later the Young King , to live in Becket s
household, it being the custom then for noble children to be fostered out to other
noble houses. Later that would be one of the reasons his son would turn against him,
having formed an emotional attachment to Becket as a foster father. Henry the
Young King was reported to have said Becket showed him more fatherly love in a
day than his father did his entire life.
Archbishop Theobald died April 18, 1161, and the chapter learned with some
indignation that the king expected them to choose Thomas his successor. That
election took place in May, and Thomas was consecrated on June 3, 1162, in
accordance with the king s wishes.

At once there took place before the eyes of the astonished king and country an
unexpected transformation in the character of the new archbishop. Having previously
8. An Analysis of Bram Stoker s Dracula
Bram Stoker s Dracula is the story about how the small company of men and a
woman lead by Professor Abraham Van Helsing combats against Count Dracula, who
moves from Transylvania to England in order to manipulate people as foul things of
the night like him, without heart or conscience, preying on the bodies and the souls
of those [they] love best (223). Stoker employs an epistolary format in this novel and
nowadays, Draculabecomes one of popular literary works representing epistolary
novels written in the nineteenth century. The term epistolary novels refers to the
novels composed of different types of documents, such as journals, letters, newspaper
clippings and so forth. One of the effects created by using an epistolary format is...

As Jonathan is placed in such an isolated location without interaction with anyone
except Dracula, Jonathan does not have many methods to reveal his emotions and
thoughts; therefore, he keeps writing his journals in order to record the
experiences he had, but also to convey his inner state while he was staying at
Dracula s castle. Also, Jonathan s passage reveals that his habit of writing a
journal functions as a temporary remedy to alleviate his uneasiness: For now,
feeling as though my own brain were unhinged or as if the shock had come which
must end in its undoing, I turn to my diary for repose. The habit of entering
[journals] accurately must help to soothe me (33). The tension derived from
Jonathan s anxiety for his safety maximizes in his journal written on 29 June and
30 June. In Jonathan s journal written on 29 June, he eavesdrops on the
conversation between Dracula and three vampire women and recognizes that the
following day is his last day of being as a human. He decides to crawl down the
castle wall to go home and leaves farewell to Mina and others at the end of his
journal. Later chapters focus on other characters in the story and Jonathan s trace is
unrevealed until the end of Chapter 8, 19 August in Mina s journal (93) and the date
of Mina s first letter sending to Lucy Westernra is 9 May few days after Jonathan s
arrival at Dracula s castle. These immediate changes in the setting from Transylvania
9. The Absolutely True Story Of A Part Time Indian By
Sherman...
Imagine being in quicksand, unable to get yourself out. Scared to death of
suffocation. That is how poverty can impact people. It can last much longer than ten
minutes, but a lifetime. The cycle does not just stop there, it is common for it to be
generational. Does poverty have the ability to define a person? Povertyand personal
identity can go hand in hand. In The Absolutely True Story of a Part time Indian,
Sherman Alexie describes the devastating effects poverty has on an individual s
identity. Poverty has lasted in Arnold s family for generations, it has proven to create
many obstacles time and time again for him. Being poor drastically affects Arnold s
basic needsof survival, it infringes the joy he has in his life, and constantly reminds
him what it is like to be a Native American on the Spokane Indian Reservation. This
all, in return, impacts Arnold s sense of self.
Poverty hurts Arnold s basic means of survival. He describes how his drawing
talents won t get him what he truly needs, my cartoons will never take the place of
food or money. I wish I could draw a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, or a fist full
of twenty dollar bills, and perform some magic trick and make it real (Alexie 7).
The desire to have money appear from his drawings is understandable, who wouldn t
want that? The alarming part of his statement is his want for just a basic peanut
butter and jelly sandwich. Those are generally cheap items to purchase at a grocery
store, but Arnold is
10. Practicum Placement
My first practicum placement for this semester, I was placed at Henry F. Moss
Middle School. When I found out that I had to observe and teach a lesson to
middle schoolers, I was not thrilled. I have never had any interest in teaching
middle school so I was dreading the next one hundred and forty observation hours.
Despite my initial thoughts, I enjoyed my time at Moss Middle. The teacher that I
was placed with was Mrs. Durbin. She was very open to having me in her class
and was never opposed to me jumping in to help her teach or assist students in the
classroom. She is an LBD teacher and teaches in a math resource classroom.

was also able to experience middle school which is kind of out of my comfort
zone, but I feel like it helped me. I have witnessed rules and procedures in both
schools that work and do not work. I use what I have experienced as a comparison
to different schools so that when I am looking for a job in the near future I know
exactly what I want and I will look for certain aspects within a school. I want a
school like Bristow because everyone I have come in contact with at the school is
beyond welcoming and is willing to help me when I need it. The principal is
always visible around the school, I would see him at least twice a day. The
principal also does so much for the teachers and students. He wants everyone to feel
appreciated and rewarded for the hard work that they do. All the teachers work
together to enforce rules and procedures to keep the students in check and everything
running smoothly. I feel like these aspects are really important when looking for a
school to work at in the future. Finishing up this semester in my practicum
placements makes me excited for next semester because I will have MSD placements

STUDY POPULATION AND CLINICAL DATA
This study is a retrospective chart review of 360 patients with definite or possible
Infective Endocarditis according to modified Duke Criteria [1 2] who were admitted
to Detroit Receiving Hospital and Harper University Hospital in Detroit from 2006 to
2014. Both hospitals are teaching hospitals in Detroit, Michigan. For a patient with
repeated episodes of Infective Endocarditis, one episode was only included at our
institutions. Clinical, microbiological, and echocardiographic data of all patients
with definite IE were collected using a standard data collection form.
Analysis of Data
Analysis of data was conducted using the SPSS software system version 22. In table
1, bivariate analysis was used to compare IE patients who died during admission
versus those who survived to hospital discharge.
Continuous variables were expressed as means В± standard deviation (SD) and
binary regression analysis was used to examine the associations between a
continuous variable and a categorical variable with two categories. Categorical
variables were presented numbers (percentage) and the association between them
analyzed using The Chi square test. Variables that achieved a P value less than 0.10
in the bivariable analysis were included in the multivariable logistic regression model
to adjust the effects of any possible confounding variable. The independent predictors
of the mortality were selected using a backward stepwise.

12. Dunlap V. Tennessee Valley Authority Essay
Dunlap v. Tennessee Valley Authority
Joyce Harrison
Business Employment Law
May 11, 2011
1. What were the legal issues in this case? The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth
Circuit was to determine if the plaintiff, David Dunlap Dunlap, had met the burden of
proof that the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) was liable under Title VII of the
Civil Rights Act of 1964 by intentionally discriminating against him under both
disparate impact and disparate treatment analyses and whether the TVA appealto the
District Court erred in each of these analyses could be legally supported to reverse
their decision FindLaw, 2011). David Dunlap brought suit under Title VII, alleging
racial discrimination by the TVA.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
3. Explain why the plaintiff s disparate treatment claim succeeded.
The disparate treatment doctrine requires a plaintiff to demonstrate that an employer
has treated some people less favorably than others because of their race, color,
religion, sex, or national origin. Three provisions required to prove disparate
treatment are (1) the plaintiff must establish a prima facie case of racial
discrimination; (2) the employer must articulate some legitimate, nondiscriminatory
reason for its actions, and (3) the plaintiff must prove that the stated reason was in
fact pretextual. Proof of discriminatory motive is critical and may be inferred from
the mere fact of differences in treatment. Proof may also be inferred from the falsity
of the employer s explanation for the treatment, (Walsh, 2010).
Mr. Dunlap successfully established a prima facie case of disparate treatment by
meeting the above 3 provisions; (1) he was African American; (2) he was qualified
for the position sought; and (3) white applicants with less experience were hired
for 9 of the 10 open jobs. TVA attempted to rebut his claim by offering the selection
matrix used during his interview as evidence to prove that he didn t rank as one of
the top 10 applicants due to his interview scores. However, Mr. Dunlap was able to
refute TVA s claim by demonstrating that his matrix score was manipulated to keep
him out of top 10, thus proving it was merely a
13. Milosevic Slobodan Research Paper
Introduction
Throughout Eastern Europe, many ordinary people took political action around the
fall of the communist regime. Protests ranged from small events to large, violent
protests that changed the composition within Yugoslavia. The dynamics of political
elites and citizens began to take a different shape as the structure of the authoritarian
regime evolved. Yugoslavia suffered from instability due to rapid changes socially,
politically, and economically in which paved way for Milosevic Slobodan. However,
there was essentially two main reasons that allowed the nationalistic Serbian
mobilization of Kosovo Albanians: 1) Ordinary people adopted the ideals of the
elites and
2) open opportunity during the fall of communism. Although these main reasons may
overlap each other, they both are definitive in the emergence of a new leader. As
revolutions prove to break ground when opportunities arise, Milosevic seized his
chance at power. Nationalistic mobilization would monopolize within the Serbian
community and reawaken historic ties with the Kosovo Albanians. The anti
bureaucratic revolution progressed at the weakening of the Yugoslavian government.
Essentially, revolutionary movements are highly opportunistic, which tends to occur
in non democratic regimes with a weakened central control.

The CPY held precedence over local and state rulings and regulated nearly every
aspect (economical, social, political). Although Yugoslavia s political structure was
completely redefined, cultural and historical ties of the region were dismissed. The
rapid integration between the Serbs, Croats, Slovenes and other ethnicities were
forced to a single state. There was no acknowledgement of identity or territorial
boundaries between the ethnicities, which would prove to be a vital error of
judgement in terms of political

People consider the 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey team to be one of the greatest
things to happen in U.S Olympic history. Their game against the Soviets is known
as The Miracle on Ice. The world was stunned when the United States defeated the
Soviets in the semi final game of the 1980 Olympics. The Soviets hadn t been

around the world and will not be forgotten by Americans any time soon. In an

They had to keep in their minds that they had to get back at the Soviets. After going
undefeated in round robin play, the United States had to head into the semi final
game where they would face the Soviets. Its almost impossible to imagine what
was going through their heads. They had to be very excited to finally get a change
for revenge and beat the Soviets, but at the same time they had to be scared to
death, knowing that just two weeks before, they had gotten absolutely dominated
losing to the Soviets 10 3. In an article written by fact monster it shows the United
States through their round robin play. The first game that the United States played
was against Sweden. The United States had trailed the game 2 1 throughout the
third period. The U.S. came together and didnt give up. A last minute goal by Bill
Baker salvaged a 2 2 tie. A 7 3 win over Czechoslovakia boosted confidence. The
momentum grew with victories against Norway and Romania and a 4 2 comeback
win over Germany. Germany had beaten the United States 4 1 in the 1976 Olympic
games. Going undefeated in the round robin play helped the U.S. believe that they
could do it. All they had to do ws have the right mind set. As long as they focused
on what they had to do and how to fix the problems from the last game against the
Soviets, the U.S. would be able to give them a game. Through the round robin play
the U.S. had came together as a team and worked together to accomplish the main
15. Sadie Hazzard s Mistake In Crow Country
Throughout Crow Country by Kate Constable, the main character Sadie Hazzard
has to try and correct the mistakes of the past. I believe that Sadie was not
completely successful in correcting the mistakes, as only one mistake would be
considered to be corrected. For example, Clarry covers up Jimmy Raven s murder
due to the fact that he was borrowing money from Gerald Mortlock, returning
Jimmy Raven to his people and remembering his legacy. Jimmy Raven s death was
covered up by Clarry Hazzard because of Gerald Mortlock. Gerald Mortlock
murdered Jimmy Raven because he was supposedly drunk and was trying to fight
Gerald, but one of the two men had a gun. Therefore Mortlock accidentally pulled
the trigger, which resulted in Jimmy s death. The text does not clearly state
whether Sadie is to fix this mistake. Gerald and Clarry (and Jimmy) all went to war
together who then became close friends. I have to help Gerald; I promised to look
out for him. Clarry now has to lend money from Gerald to keep his shop going. The
loyalty between Jimmy and Gerald started to fade away as well as Gerald and
Clarry s friendship. Due to the loyalty and friendship factor Clarry had to cover up
Jimmy s death, Sadie was not successful in correcting this mistake of the past.... Show

The Hound of the Baskervilles, by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, tells the tale of the fabled
hound that haunts the Baskerville family. Throughout the novel, the author forms the
theme of not being ruled by fear, by the characters dealing with, unexplained deaths,

the novel confuse and scare the characters. This is shown because, even though the
characters didn t know what was happening, none of them were ruled by fear. Each
of the characters dealt with their own problems while at Baskerville Hall. Though,
they didn t flee. They remain at Baskerville Hall to end the mystery and confront the
murderer of Sir Charles Baskerville. For example Sir Charles s nervous system
17. The School Of Education And Allied Professions
In 2011, the College of Education and Allied Professions welcomed the first fifteen
member cohort of Woodrow Wilson Teaching Fellows (WWTF) to the University of
Dayton. Dr. Tom Lasley communicated the necessity for the WWTF program with
one statement, Dayton Public Schools are in crisis and the Woodrow Wilson
Teaching Fellows will learn the skills necessary to facilitate a change in direction.
Superintendent of Dayton Public Schools (DPS), Lori Ward, endorsed the WWTF
program and provided Fellows opportunities to complete student teaching
requirements in select Dayton Public Schools. On the contrary, within the
Department of Teacher Educationprofessors and support staff approved the concept
of the WWTF program, but struggled with implementation. As program director, Dr.
Lasley utilized the symbolic and political frames to foster support during the program
s first year.
To garner support for program implementation, Dr. Lasley relied on relationships
developed during his tenure as former dean of the College of Education and Allied
Professions. Bowman and Deal (2013) describe reputation as a source of power.
Reputation builds on expertise (Bowman Deal, 2013). Further, his reputation afforded
access to key internal and external stakeholders. The Provost supported University
involvement with the Woodrow WilsonFoundation (WWF) and petitioned the office
of Graduate Education on behalf of the program for a book stipend for the WWTF.

18. Painting With Light By Dante Gabriel Rossetti Essay
The exhibition, Painting with Light will be displayed at the Tate Modern in London
from May the 11th till September the 25th 2016. To those of you who may see
Edwardian and Victorian art as not being particularly exciting, i would encourage you
to try and look past this disinterest and get down to see the Painting with Light
exhibition. The exhibition impressively manages to capture the development of art
during the period in a way of which the disinterest of most is turned into intrigue and
knowledge.
The exhibition focuses on the relationship between painting and photography, the
largely experimental period in which this developed coincided with the founding of
the Pre Raphaelite Brotherhood. Paintings by Dante Gabriel Rossetti, John Everett
Millais and John Singer Sargent are included (and personally i believe they are the
highlights of the exhibition) are shown side by side with the photos they inspired and
of subjects they drew inspiration from.
The Pre Raphaelite Brotherhood was a secret society of the mid 19th century that
sought to create a new form of British art. They strived to emulate art from the late
medieval period, early renaissance till the of Raphael, striving to convey messages of
artistic renewal and moral reform. This theme combined with Aesthetic and
Impressionist works gives the richness in culture and a great span in examples that
supply ample contextual and visual support for the idea the exhibition is conveying.
Although the exhibition

people in particular that I have been raised to support is the LGBTQ community.
This is especially because of my uncle and his partner. Sadly, they passed away a

Furthermore, I have other family members and friends that are part of the LGBTQ

I do not think someone s right to marry should be determined by religious views.
Today, there are a lot more rights that go along with being married. Not just the
marriage itself. These include the right to see your spouse in the hospital, making
medical decisions for your spouse, making burial or final arrangements, and
housing benefits to name a few. To see how not having these rights affects couples,
I would strongly recommend watching the documentary Bridegroom or the video
It could happen to you. Therefore, a marriage is a larger issue than the coming
together of two people. I do not agree that the basic reason for marriage is the
ability to procreate. Several cultures have their own ideas and forms of marriage,
therefore it should not be controlled by a few biblical beliefs. For example, Native
American tribes would many gay and lesbian couples frequently and even thought of
them as sacred. Also, as said in Doing Ethics, some couples choose to not have

has impacted NASCAR during the economic downturn was the fact that they were
heavily relying on major automobile companies, such as, Ford Motor Company,
General Motors, and Chrysler; therefore, when the auto industry was affected by
the recession, it had an impact on NASCAR s sponsorship funding. For NASCAR
to insulate itself from further economic issues, the industry will need to remain
faithful to their roots. This is a spectator sport, not a sponsorship sport. This
motorsport must maintain a fan base by ensuring there are opportunities in which
they can afford to participate. The branding and co branding of NASCAR have
proven to be a bit commercialized; therefore, placing drivers at risk for losing
business endorsements if they do not win. I do believe it has placed undue hardship
for the driver. As with any other sport, such as Football, Baseball, and Basketball, it
has become more about the
21. Personal Narration Of A State Championship
The rest of that season leading up to the Class MM State Championship and the
State Open Championship went very smoothly. Confidence wise, this team was
unlike any other Tech School team that I had dealt with. They were, as I referred to
them, a blue color team and openly welcomed competition. Because, they were so
tough, both mentally as well as physically, I felt I could put them through a workout
two weeks before the Championship race that would hopefully give them the added
self confidence to climb one more step on the ladder of success. The workout that I
designed was similar to one that I had created and done myself in preparation for an
upcoming race. Entitled, The State Meet Won t Hurt This Much , it involved initially

After the race and with only six days before the State Open Championships would
be held, Ellis Tech found themselves in a group of four teams that were predicted to
contend for the title. It was the first time a Tech School was in that position but,
more impressively, in order to accomplish that, they would have to defeat three
Class LL schools, Xavier, Manchester, and Fairfield Prep to do so. Being included
in a group with those other schools was very complimentary but it wouldn t help us
out on race day. Although every member of the team ran well, no one was able to
run as fast as they had just six days before in the Class Meet. When the dust settled,
Ellis Tech ended up in third place behind Manchester and Xavier which had finished
in first and second places. The only consolation with coming up just short was the
fact that for the first time ever, a Tech School would, by virtue of finishing in the top
six teams, qualify to compete at the New England Cross Country Championships in
Thetford, Vermont the following weekend.
The trip to Vermont in November proved to be challenging and for me personally
eye opening. It would be my first chance as a coach to compete at that level in high
school cross country and, almost sadly, I learned a valuable lesson about coaches and
their differing and sometimes distorted views regarding
22. Blue Black Boy Analysis
The Power of a Picture
One of the most intriguing and influential images included in Citizen by Claudia
Rankine is the image entitled Blue Black Boy. Blue Black Boy is a visual work of
art created by Carrie Mae Weems in 1990 s; Weems is a very successful female
African American artist. Through a close reading of the image, I was able to derive
meaning out of the various aspects that work together to create such an eloquent work
of art. In its formal aspects, Blue Black Boy has several important ingredients that
lead to its overall meaning. To start, the first thing I noticed is the vibrant white shirt
the African Americanboy is wearing; it really stuck out to me and was brought into
the foreground of the image. This immediately connected with ideas mentioned
earlier in Rankine s book, _______ (Rankine __). The white shirt as with the white
background make the subject stand out and a ripe target for scrutiny. Another very
intriguing aspect of the image is the words under each of the sequential identical
pictures of the boy. Under the first picture is the word blue with the others being
black and boy respectively. I believe Weems is implying how... Show more content

23. Supporting Ethical Behavior In The Workplace
Ethical behavior in the workplace is paramount to a successful organization.
Commitment to supporting ethical behavior in the workforce must be a top priority
for all public service employees. The ethical culture of the organization starts at the
very top of the organization. The standards of the agency are adhered to across the
entire structure through fair and consistent ethical conduct as defined by leadership.
Effective leaders must demonstrate through their behavior that they believe what they
say. Those who pronounce that their supervisors and street level workers must adhere
to the highest ethical standards must themselves adhere to those same standards

Retaliatory termination refers to firing an employee as revenge for an employee s
protected activity. Protected activities include such acts as refusing to participate in
something illegal, reporting sexual harassment or other illegal act, or seeking to join

these activities, it is considered retaliatory termination, which is a form of wrongful
termination (Legal Dictionary, 2016). If Rob does fire Carolyn after the ruling is
decided in his favor, she should bring a lawsuit for wrongful termination. Wrongful
termination, also referred to as wrongful dismissal, or wrongful discharge, involves
the termination of an employee without just cause. While most people who have been
fired from their jobs feel the dismissal was without just cause, wrongful termination
actually refers to dismissals for a narrow set of reasons. In fact, wrongful termination
refers to termination involving some type of discrimination, which violates the

24. DELEGATION AND DECENTRALIZATION
Advantages and Disadvantages of Decentralization
In an organization, centralized way of making a decision entails less autonomy to
everyone except the central leadership. In contrast, decentralization involves
delegation of responsibility and the associated decision making powers across
various levels in the organization. Let us discover the pros and cons of this concept.
A central command structure derives from an autocratic style of management.
Autocracy is not necessarily an intention and could be incidental. For example,
typically start ups and business that have just been founded are naturally autocratic
with the founding members primarily running the show. Gradually, as the business
grows and the headcount expands, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The adoption of organizational standards and best practices is also facilitated by a
decentralized setup. Transparency in process ensures that it is easy for the various
local teams to emulate and adopt the methods and processes that brought success to a
team located elsewhere.
One of the major advantages of decentralized way of taking decisions is witnessed
during a sudden change in the local business environment such as the onset of
recession or currency devaluation, etc. Businesses are able to respond and adapt
quickly to these changes when authority is decentralized.
Retail businesses like Walmart and hotel chains often benefit from having a
decentralized style of management. Businesses, where quick decisions amidst fast
paced changes in environment are the order of the day, stand to benefit from
decentralization.
Disadvantages of Decentralization
Too much emphasis on localized way of taking decisions may end up blurring the
bigger picture. As you go down the corporate ladder, employees seem to lose sight of
the organizational vision.
A highly decentralized organization can be the battleground for unhealthy
competition between local managers leading to lack of co operation and coordination.
As a result, interdependent functions may suffer and resolving interdepartmental
conflicts is difficult when authority has been delegated. In addition, there is costly
duplication

In recent years a mysterious disease called Female Sexual Dysfunction (FSD) has
captivated the marketplace and the general public. FSD has managed to cause mass
hysteria across the nation as women fear that they are abnormal or even diseased
because of the broad definition of sexuality being perpetuated by mass media. The
documentary OrgasmInc. explores the social construction of FSD, the role of drug
companies in defining FSD, and the resulting exploitation of women and the drug
market by the pharmaceutical companies.
Liz Canner, the filmmaker, consistently undermines the medical basis of FSD as she
interviews various companies, experts, and even women who believe they have FSD.

The medicalization of such a social problem and the broad symptoms of FSD are
in part due to role of pharmaceutical companies in defining the disease itself. Liz
Canner asks a representative of the pharmaceutical company VIVUS how they can
make a drug for such a new, ambiguous disease and is shocked by her response. The
representative talked about how VIVUS defines the disease, suggesting that the
disease is to be defined and interpreted by pharmaceutical companies rather than by
unbiased medical professionals. A study done on FSD that made headlines across
America claimed that 43% of women showed symptoms of FSD, yet the researcher
who made these claims was being paid by a drug company. The researcher had
originally said that many of these women who fall into the infamous 43% actually
showed normal sexual responses. By the time the incorrect statement had been
retracted, it was already too late because the media had relentlessly pushed the
statistic. Pharmaceutical companies
27. Summary Of Little Red Cap We See Red By Carol Ann
Duffy
Autonomy within David Malouf s Ransom is represented by the lack of overbearing
and constant interference by the gods. Although the characters are bound by fate
they are unrestricted in acting within their own free will. In Carol Ann Duffy s Little
Red Cap we see Red s autonomy by subverting the traditional narrative and giving her
control of the tale and fate of the Wolf.
The concept that humans possessed their own autonomy over their actions and the
opportunities they took was unfathomable concept to the Ancient Greeks who
believed that their destinies were predetermined and governed by the actions of
deities and supernatural forces. Within Ransom it is we see Malouf has pulled apart

Malouf does not portray fate as an irrevocable procession to the grave and that man
is powerless to contest it. For Malouf, that which cannot be altered in Priam s life is
merely left to the gods and that which can be changed is simply dependent on chance
but instead makes it evident that through perseverance and will, man can exercise a
degree of control over his destiny.
When we look at depictions of free will in regards to Achilles, we can see that his
reputation throughout the territory is well known, bringing fear to Trojans and
inspiration to the Greeks. Despite his reputation being earnt through war and strength,
Achilles would not be remembered for this. Malouf presents to us the raw, vulnerable
side of Achilles with his mourning for Patroclus. The very act of dragging Hector s
body each morning behind his chariot ... breaks daily every rule [his men] ... have
been taught to live by. Their only explanation is that he is mad (p.29). However,
we can see the gods do not interfere with Achilles desecration by taking Hector s
body, instead they return the body to an untarnished state, adding to Achilles rage
(p.31) Priam s arrival to Achilles camp is an autonomous act as he wishes to ransom
myself as well as my son linking back to the small child Podarces who was ransom
in himself. This highlights Priam s

29. Human-Grizzly Bear Conflict
The principal cause of all the Human Grizzly Bear conflict is human population
growth. Human population has been increasing exponentially and humans are
essentially invading natural environments in which animals like Grizzly Bears
thrive. Habitat space for Grizzly bears is decreasing and they are competing for
food and space with humans. Habitat destruction by humans leads to urbanization
of natural habitats of animals; thus, leaving Grizzly bears to fend for themselves
with scarce resources (Mace Waller, 1998). Urbanization such as road development
leads to fragmentation and increasing the chances Grizzly bear interaction with a
human, this is because of transport and service corridors, particularly roads, are
currently the prime form of humans to access to Grizzly bear range (MacHutchon
and Proctor, 2015). In addition to road building, the presence of agriculture lands
near Grizzly bear habitat can increase the chances conflicts as well. Due to the

30. Foucault s Panopticon
Foucault believed that knowledge is a form of power, and that ultimately, through
observation you gain power. This main idea allowed for him to realize that, once
applied to the real world, knowledge is the most powerful tool one can have. It is
evident that Foucault essentially believed that with knowledge, one can control
everything around them. Furthermore, having the power to discipline and society.
The concept of panopticism developed from the idea of disciplining society. The
panopticonwas an architectural design with the main purpose of being able to have
visibility on everyone that was incarcerated. Prisoners were held in cells, which
surrounded a main tower controlled by either a general guard, or the person who

Bartky uses the idea that over time, women have slowly been breaking out of the
power that men had over them. They have somewhat freed themselves from being
monitored and controlled by men. This relates to panopticism in that the
panopticon was essentially created in order to have full regulation and oversight
over prisoners, in this case, women. Disciplinary practices were being ensured in
order to have society (women) constantly productive as well as under control by a
power figure. Ultimately requiring people to behave properly and according to
conduct which in turn, controlled their minds as well as their bodies. In terms of
modern surveillance, women are constantly being watched by men even when
they do not know of it. This is a disciplinary practice set by the norms society has
created for women, which is also known as the male gaze, essentially creating the
docile body. Foucault s idea of panopticism produced his concept that these
disciplinary practices create docile bodies which in essence means that people are
being made into subjects. Bartky uses this to explain that this has much to do with
women and how they are being currently objectified in every way possible. An
example of this, is how women are being made objects for men in the media in order
to make them look desirable. This grants men all the

The Effects of the Sicilian Code of Honour in A View from the Bridge by Arthur
Miller
A View from the Bridge is a play set within the New York in the Red Hook area just
after the years of the Great Depression in 1941. America was desperately in need of
laborers and other countries were desperately in need of work. This lead to many
immigrants transporting themselves to America. This brings us to the play which
centers on two characters that enter the country illegally in search of money. They
have entered into a community that not only bought their willingness for work into
the country but a community dominated by the unwritten law of the Sicilian moral
code.

When Rodolfo enters the household and starts to go out with Catherine he begins to
dislike Rodolfo. Eddie s dislike for Rodolfo is constantly heightened throughout the
play by the many things Rodolfo does. Rodolfo is described as a homosexual figure
by others in the community. Eddie starts commenting on Rodolfo s bad side when he
and Catherine start seeing each other.
He ain t right.
Says Eddie to Alfieri when discussing Rodolfo
Eddie acts in a friendly manner when he first meets Rodolfo, but as the play
progresses, when for instance Rodolfo comments on Catherine s beauty, he begins to
show hostility towards Rodolfo;
(laughs indicating Catherine) especially when they are so beautiful.
As Eddie picks up on these comments he tries to find any fault in Rodolfo
He s like a weird.
What perhaps further increases Eddie s dislike for Rodolfo is when Rodolfo
breaks the Sicilian Moral Code by not asking Eddie if he could take Catherine out
on a date. Not only is Rodolfo breaking the Sicilian moral code, but this perhaps
makes Eddie s jealousy flare his unnatural love for Catherine. There is a suspicion
within the play by characters such as Alfieri that perhaps Eddie loves Catherine more
then just as a daughter.
She wants to get married, Eddie. She can t marry you, can she?

32. What Was The Rise Of The Shang Dynasty
The Shang and Zhou dynasties. Also, know as the bronze age of China. The ancient
Chinese called their land Zhongguo, the middle kingdom. They were also extremely
isolated. This is because they were completely blocked away from other civilization
by high mountains ranges, brutal deserts, and large oceans. With this isolation, they
were unable to trade with other civilizations or gain new technology from them. This
also means less foreign invasions, more wars among themselves, and a lack of
cultural diffusion.
For the Chinese, history began in the Huang He valley, this is where people first
started farming (crops and animals) and settling down, near the river of sorrows or
the yellow river. They needed to control the flow of the river, due to the fact it
would also commonly overflow. They would build and repair dikes. If the dikes
broke the river would overflow. Destroy their crops and bring mass starvation.
Around 1650 b.c, the Shang dynasty began and lasted until 1027 b.c. During this
time the beginning of Chinese civilization began to take form. Created a form of
government, their government Like many other ancient civilizations, they had a
social pyramid, with kings on the top and peasants on the bottom. It is also thought
that kings only ruled small areas while loyal nobles governed most of the land.

were buried. While kings were given huge tombs filled with objects that showed their

Reality is a hard trail that everyone in the world has to face. Reality comes with
many aspects that are constantly changing and that can be confusing or scary to
many people. Coming to terms with reality is difficult sometimes but, no one must
shy from aspects of reality for that reason. If they were to shy away and hide
themselves from knowledge or experience then they will never be able to overcome
their conflictions with the issue. In order to grow, people have to properly come to
understand and face harsh realities. There are no safe spaces or trigger warnings in
most places of the world. That s the lesson that the incoming students of University of
Chicago, whom may expect the inclusion of trigger warning and safe spaces into the
education system, need to understand. A safe space is an area located anywhere,
where anyone can escape from things they find harmful, such as controversial topics
or different ideals. They are also able to fully express themselves, without having to
worry about being uncomfortable, unwelcome, or unsafe. A trigger warning is an
essentially a warning that the presented content through verbal or visual means, may
be considered disturbing or upsetting to many. Some students of Chicago University
may think that their school is in need of these concepts in order to protect themselves
however the University has rejected the idea in a letter they sent, on the basis that it
could prove harmful to their academic freedom. The University of

35. Review Of Writing A Wall Street Op
To begin with, Flash Boys is terrible. It is not just a major whiff, but a travesty. And
it really ticked me off.
Lewis had a major incentive to over hype the story, as he all but admitted. I fully
agree with Cliff Asness of AQR Capital, who wrote in a Wall Street op ed: Making
mountains out of molehills sells more books than a study of molehills. That is more
or less what happened here. Lewis wanted to sell a lot of books. He wanted to
capture lightning in a bottle (to use his own phrase). He captured irresponsible
hyperbole instead.

36. Conuncianitarianism And Confucianism
Confucianism does not explicitly encourage war given its emphasis on humanity.
This combination of moral vision and political realism combined with his advocacy
of strong political authorities that nevertheless rule justly in service of the common
good. Xunzi s vision of the good society and how it fits into a multi state world
which undergirds his critique of alternate discourses about warand the government.
Xunzian s vision of politics and war as a source for contemporary Confucian
theory of civilian military relations. The early Confucian figure Xunzi (xunzi,
during 310 c. 220 BCE) gives a sophisticated analysis of war, which he develops on
the basis of a larger social and political vision that he works out in considerable
detail. This larger vision of human society is thoroughly normative in the sense that
Xunzi both argues for the value of his ideal conception of society, and relates these
moral arguments for the Confucian Dao or Way. Xunzi s led him to argue about
war in ways that look distinctive to Western ethicists, but still his preferred issues
are revealing themselves as suggestive in relation to current debates in military
ethics. Judaism does not regard violence and war to promote justice as always
wrong. It accepts that certain kinds of war will be ethically justified, and that it is
sometimes morally acceptable to killpeople. Before declaring war or starting a battle
there must be a genuine attempt to make peace and avoid the conflict. In much

Eastern mysticism.
The Beatles last concert was in San Francisco in 1966. The band broke up in 1970.
Lennon went on to record solo albums and with his wife, Yoko Ono.

42. The Distinction of Social Classes in Sister Carrie by...
By the later part of the 1800 s New York and Chicago were some of the largest cities
in the world and both had populations that exceeded a million. With the growing
population, the economy s stability began to fluctuate. The instability within the
states gave rise to two distinct populations within America, the upper and the working
classes. Theodore Dreiser, knowing the volatile state America was built upon,
highlighted the economic differences between the wealthy and the poor in his novel
Sister Carrie.
During the eighteenth century, America had transformed from a simple homestead
into an ornate country. Within the bustling empire, the wealthy were able to live
lavish lifestyle that inspired the idea of the American Dream. The ... Show more

The lowborn workers toiled away for hours in physically exhausting jobs only to
afford apartments that were sterile and cold. There were some nine cots in the

(Dreiser, 304). The pay affected the men and woman s own mode of life. They were
forced to share living spaces with other families and more often than naught, had to
bunk with complete strangers. The very comforts associated with a home, such as
wood and furniture, were often too large of an expense. Even with Governmental
/ Charity handouts the citizens had no money in which they could afford better
living conditions. The rooms they were given to stay in were cold and sterile, and
they were not guaranteed a place to stay every night. On the others side of the
unbalanced American social scale, the rich were living in superb houses and
apartments that bespoke of wealth and comfort. In a weird turn of events, the elite
were given more charitable donations then the unemployed miserable lower class
citizens. Dreiser shows this when Carrie is offered a first class for a mere two dollars

excused of the high prices, because of her station in life (Dreiser, 331).
While charitable organizations were giving the poor shabby overly crowded rooms,

43. Personal Narrative about Skiing Essay
The coat of armor I adorned, made of down feathers and a nylon shell, yielded no
protection against the daggers of that cold winter air. As I peered out toward the
horizon, I saw nothing but tree tops, and some snow capped mountain tops in the
distance. With my feet bound to freshly waxed skis, the only thing stronger than my
skipoles was my determination to get down the mountain.
I turned to my right, only to see the immediate drop off of the ski slope. As I crept
up a little closer to the edge, I noticed an incline that before now was only known to
me through pictures of cliff diving, or an exaggerated road runner and coyote cartoon.
With a deep breath of that icy cold air that seemed endless at the time, I pushed

I see a tree that was once in the far off distance, now rapidly approaching with speed
of an oncoming train. With a look of confusion that I can only describe as the look
of a deer in the headlights, I twisted my body to the right in hopes to avoid the
oncoming danger, that devil dressed in the needles of a blue spruce.
As my upper body shifted to the right, everything from my waist and below stayed
true to the course, including the ski poles. I ran over the handle of my ski pole,
with my stomach. The pole was pushed up into my lower abdomen, propelling me
off of the slope entirely, I was airborne. I landed on my back, completely out breath,
and dazed to the point I had no recollection of where I was. The next moment was
particularly scary for me, all I can recall was the ringing of a whistle in my ear, and
the red lights flashing from the ski patrols snowmobiles. Unsure of any injuries, the
ski patrol had braced my back and neck, strapped me to a board, and began to tow me

I spent the next three hours in the lodge under the watchful eye of a very pleasant
paramedic, who prescribed me the perfect blend of warm blankets and hot
chocolate. The throbbing pains finally ceased, and I was able to stand up under my
own power. I slowly staggered out the door, eternally grateful to the paramedics and

45. Horace Mann s The Banking Concept Of Education
Education throughout the world is viewed as a privilege. It s a chance for
individuals to expand their knowledge. It helps create a successful path for the social
and economical structures of a society. Or at least, that s the idea. People like Horace
Mann argue that education is , the great equalizer of the conditions of men, making
educationsound essential and liberating. Others, like Paulo Freire, argue that
education is suffering of narration sickness and is in need of a reform because the
system is tied to an extensive social structure of oppression. Freire introduces The
Banking Concept of Education in which he addresses that the current educational
system involves one type of educator; the banking concept teacher. These teachers...

Freire notes , In the banking concept of education, knowledge is a gift bestowed by
those who consider themselves knowledgeable upon those whom they consider to
know nothing... they never discover that they educate the teacher. He is claiming that
the teachers display themselves as the only fountain of knowledge in the classroom,
creating oppression and disengagement towards the students because they are led to
believe that they can t make any contributions in the classroom. Freire also states that
having one educator results in narration sickness because the teacher talks about
reality as if it were motionless, static, compartmentalized, and predictable extracting
the students from reality. This narration sickness is Freire s problem with the banking
concept because he believes it limits the students in believing that they have the

46. The Incarceration Rate Of The United States
Alternatives to Mass Incarceration
Once upon a time, Americans could proudly say that America was the land of
freedom and opportunity. As the Pledge of Allegiance states, One nation under God,
Indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. However, under the current criminal
justice system, more and more people lose their liberties because of the crimes they
have committed. According to Roy Walmsley, a consultant of the United Nations and
Associate of the International Center for prison studies, In October 2013, the
incarceration rate of the United States of America was the highest in the world, at 716
per 100,000 of the national population. While the United States represent about 4.4
percent of the world s population, it houses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In his chapter on Assessing the Prison Experiment, he explained that the increase of
crime rate is not the sole reason that mass incarceration occurs, and it was also
because the courts and the legislature did indeed became tougher on offenders (Currie
14). Currie discussed the circumstances of the war on drugs, which was launched by
President Richard Nixon. He indicates that the incarceration rate and sentence
longevity were increased dramatically since the beginning of the war on drugs. Some
of these offenders were given a sentence for more than ten years without the
possibility of parole, which is taking away any chance of the prisoner being released
before the completion of his or her sentence. Locking people up is a failed attempt to
descend the crime rate, and the adoption of mandatory minimum sentencing law is
the root of mass incarceration. The government should reconsider the current
sentencing laws and reform the correctional system in order to solve the current mass
incarceration problem. Furthermore, establishing more community based programs
for youth offenders and initiating early release programs are excellent alternatives to
resolve the issue of mass incarceration from both long term and short term
perspectives, respectively. If mass incarceration is a cancer of society, mandatory
minimum sentencing laws are the tumors that exacerbate society s condition. These
mandatory minimum sentencing laws require a certain length of prison time if
47. Dreams In Bless Me Ultima By Rudolfo Anaya
Dreams have many meanings some come in various different forms. Some dreams
have very deep meanings while others are just simply a product of your
imagination. For example some people experience Deja Vu. Deja Vu is when you
have a dream of something and then it comes to life. People who have had Deja
Vu have been very surprised. A dream is a product of your imagination some are
just entertaining while others might be viewed as life lessons. Some dreams have
deeper meanings into them, you just have to look for them. For example some
people have been having dreams of going to a certain place then the next morning
they end up in the same exact place. When you arrive at the place you will have a
certain feeling like you have been here before then you will remember that your
dreamed about it. Dreams have so much to to do with your imagination but some
are no product of your imagination but a product of reality. Dreams have many
meanings they might be good, bad, and scary ,whatever they are they are still a
product of you. Likewise In Bless Me Ultima by Rudolfo Anaya, Antonio s dreams,

48. The Total Contribution Cost Ratio
A.Breakeven point (BEP) is where the total contribution cost equals to fixed cost. To
calculate this, you do fixed cost divided by the contribution per unit. To calculate the
contribution per unit you do the selling price minus the variable costs.
Racquets ВЈ225
Producing 6000 units
Labour 27000 hours
Materials ВЈ44 X 6000 = ВЈ264,000
Labour ВЈ12 X (4.5 hours x 6000) = ВЈ324,000
Variable overheads production 10 x 4.5 = 45 x 6000 = ВЈ270,000
Total Expenses ВЈ858,000 + 161,000 + 126,000 = 1,145,000
BEP ВЈ225 x 6000 = 1,350,000
ВЈ1,350,000 ВЈ858,000 = 492,000 divides by 6000 = 82 contribution per unit
ВЈ161,000 + ВЈ126,000 = ВЈ287,000 Fixed costs
ВЈ287,000 divides by 82 = 3500 units to hit BEP
B.3500 units X 225 selling price = ВЈ787,500
C.The margin of safety is calculated by doing Profit divided by the contribution per
unit = Sale Units (No. Of) To find out the percentage you do sale units divided by the
No of units sold X 100 = %
ВЈ1,350,000 ВЈ1, 145000 = ВЈ205000 Profit
ВЈ205000 divides 6000 = 34.17 Profit per unit
ВЈ205000 divide 82 = 2500 units, margin of safety
2500 divide 6000 x 100 = 41.7% margin of safety
D.The Margin of safety is the difference between Sales and Break Even Point it
indicates by how much sales may decrease before the business will suffer a loss. The
margin of safety is defined by the I.C.M.A. terminology as the excess of normal or
actual sales over sales at the breakeven point. It may be expressed as a percentage of
either normal sales or

The Scarlet Letter: Internal and External Conflicts
In the novel, the Scarlet Letter, there are four main characters, Hester Prynne, Pearl

Hester Prynne committed the sin of adultery with the minister of their Puritan

She was born in a prison, and is being raised in a cottage that is nowhere near the
village where all the other children grow up. When people call her such things, she
does hear, so this hurts her emotionally and makes this an internal conflict for she
must deal with the feelings of being different and judged by others. Since she is
isolated from that part of a normal childhood, her only friend in the novel growing
up is her mother. This being another internal conflict because she grew knowing
her mother always wears the scarlet letter, and is in a certain community that has
rules about women. Now in the novel, chapter 17, Hester takes off a garment that
covers her hair and removes the scarlet letter from her bosom. Pearl seeing this
throws a tantrum for her mother to undo this doing. Causing a major internal
conflict of how Pearl sees her mother and dealing with what her mother s symbols
stand for. Pearl mocks her mother for that. There s an external conflict created by
Pearl towards Dimmesdale for when he is conversing with Hester in the forest and
he dwells for a kiss, but Pearl refrains. Pearl is a strange child, for she knows
something must be going on. Roger Prynne Chillingworth is the antagonist of the
novel. His conflicts would seem different than the other main characters conflicts. For
instance one internal conflict of his would be his thoughts of revenge. Chillingworth
has this monomaniacal desire for revenge on the unknown father. His plans were

have a better connection with one another. It helps students be more self motivated,

theatre will improve communication skills, understand that improving
communication is a life¬long learning process. Students will understand the
importance of testing ideas and the desirability of diverse points of views on and

Feminism In The Crime Film Genre
Throughout motion picture history, women have experienced more transition in their
roles, as a result of changing societal norms, than any other class. At first, both society
and the movie industry preached that women should be dependent on men and
remain in the home, in order to guarantee stability in the community and the family.
As time passed and attitudes changed, women were beginning to be depicted as
strong willed, independent minded characters, who were eager to break away from
convention. The genre of the crime film represents such a change in the roles handed
to women. Two films that can be contrasted, in order to support this view, are: The

Women were now being portrayed as powerful, unpredictable, and possessing a

brought with it his tensions that resulted the escalating war in Vietnam, the
assassination of John F. Kennedy, black ghettos going up in flames, the women s
liberation movement, the youth anti war rebellion and free love theme, and the Civil

The Tulip has grown to be a symbol for beauty, grabbing the vain eye of humans all

The symbiotic relationship between humans and plants has always been thought to
benefit humans, but what if in fact the desire behind plants, in this case the tulip, is
their driving force for survival? In the book The Botany of Desire, the author Michael

beauty, making them constantly desirable and reproducible. Although tulips serve no

We are instinctively drawn to gorgeous flowers, much like the way bees are. One
theory could have to do with flowers being the precursor to fruits, which serve as a
food source for humans. Since the creation of mankind, humans have been built to be
foragers, evolving to spy flowers in an abundant landscape of colors. The humans that
were successful foragers were the first to find sweet fruit to sustain them and the ones
to survive. This could have resulted in natural selection favoring good foragers that
could find fruits, remember their location, and differentiate them. This proposes the
thought that maybe all humans recognize floral beauty in the same way because we
are products of our ancestors, who evolved to be meticulous
