revelations in their every day lives which James Joyce called epiphanies. Merriam
Webster defines an epiphany as an illuminating discovery, realization, or disclosure.
While word epiphany has a religious connotation, these epiphanies characters in

Some might have seen her as being a pest or an interruption to the other
employees, while others saw her as being a determined individual that knew what

impressions were very different. Learning that everyone sees the world in a
different manner then led to me wanting to be kind hearted woman to everyone
that I meet. Impressions are everything, so it is better to give a person the benefit
of the doubt since their life stories are not revealed at the time they are seen. The

in 1956 and, on a surface level, this paper seemed to be about the culture of the

Professor Tiraterra s history class. He has informed us on plenty of information and
the topic I took most interest in was The New Deal. From my knowledge the
underlying issue was the Great Depression. Franklin Roosevelt won the presidency
election in 1932 due to his idea of The New Deal. The New Deal was his solution to
help the awful crisis happening in America. Franklin Roosevelt and the

As humans, we have done extensive damage to the non human world around us,
and each and every one of us is as qualified as the next person to try and remedy the
issues we ve created. Because of our mental capacity, it is our moral obligation to
take charge of these issues, as we are the voice for all other biota on this planet that
we share. Through a close reading of Rachel Carson s Silent Spring , we are able to
see that our moral obligation to the non humanenvironmentextends into every aspect
of our existence.
The changing environment is everyone s issue. No one academic discipline has
any more jurisdiction over the way we need to be approaching these problems.
Every person, and living thing for that matter, on this planet should be able to have
some say in how we should be addressing these issues. Carson makes the idea of
unity between different backgrounds clear through the use of many supplemental
anecdotes to get her point across, all of which work at different angles to try and
reach a broader audience. Carson introduces references to the sorceress Medea and

There are numerous occasions at West Point where I have seen individuals dole out
unequal shares of duties or rewards based on their personal feelings towards the
recipients. Fairness and impartiality are fundamental traits in good officers. If a
leader singles out an individual for either unfair rewards or punishments, it signals to
the unit that there are other necessary factors needed other than hard work to get
ahead, such as cozying up to the platoon leader to get the good assignments.
Soldiers need to know that assignments or tasks they are assigned are either given
through merit, or are given equally to all soldiers in the unit. Unfair treatment is a
quick way for soldiers to drift away from the task at hand and instead focus on
getting into the good graces of the leader, leaving the unit less cohesive and the
mission unaccomplished. I have witness firsthand here at West Point many unfair
decisions that were made solely out of how much someone liked or hated the person
they were dealing with. One such example that comes to mind is when one cadet was
given preferential treatment and allowed to get off morning workouts, while other
cadets had to continue. The physical development staff of my company forces any
cadet with an APFT score of less than 260 to show up to morning workouts on
Monday, Wednesday and Friday of each week. These cadets are given the
opportunity to stop attending workouts by scoring above a 270 on a diagnostic APFT
conducted once a month.

The Monster of Living with Grief
As Keanu Reeves once said, Grief changes shapes, but it never ends ( Tragic ).
When it comes to grief there are usually five shapes or stages that people go through:
denial, anger, bargaining, depression and, finally, acceptance. The book A Monster
Calls, by Patrick Ness, is about a young boy who is struggling with school, bullies,
friends, and family when his mother develops a terminal illness. He is visited by
the monster, a massive yew tree, who comes alive to teach Conor the ways of the
world. He also teaches Conor the truth in order to move past his mother s sickness.
Ness shows how people in both literature and real life tend to go through five stages
of grief while dealing with a loved one who has a terminal illness because of the
overwhelming lamentation it inflicts.
The first stage of grief is as the sharks say in Finding Nemo, DENIAL. In the book,
Conor s grandma told him that his mother s condition would not get better with one
of the new treatments. He denied it by saying, The treatments are making her better...
