Similarities Between An Occurrence At Owl Creek Bridge...
The Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge, by Ambrose Bierce tells the story of a man being punished
for a crime. While he is dying, he vividly imagines his escape, the one thing that urges him on is
the thought of his family. White Heron, by Sarah Orne Jewett follows a girl named Sylvia who
lives in a small country home with her grandmother. She has a simple life: walking with her cow
and hanging out with the forest creatures. However, when a young hunter arrives on the scene with
a very alluring offer, Sylvia is faced with a tough decision. The setting of the short story, An
Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge, is in northern Alabama during the Civil War. The short story, A
White Heron , takes place in New England during the summer on a farm. Throughout the short
stories both Jewett and Bierce, describe the similar scenes a pond, a forest, and a faint sunlight.
One similarity between the short stories is both take place by some sort of water. Peyton was
near a stream when he was shot and decided to tried another method of escaping. The humming
of the gnats that danced above the eddies of the stream, the beating of the dragon flies wings, the
strokes of the water spiders legs, like oars which had lifted their boat all these made audible
music. A fish slid along beneath his eyes, and he heard the rush of its body parting the water
(Bierce 1505). This quote describes a stream that was nearby Peyton. It describes a stream of
water and the organisms that are surrounding the stream. Sylvia theory was that if a person
climbed the tallest tree in the forest they would see the ocean. While on the hunt for the White
Heron s nesting spot, she climbed the tallest tree. Sylvia s faced was like a pale star, if one had
seen it from the ground, when the last thorny bough was past, and she stood trembling and tires
but wholly triumphant, high in the tree top. Yes, there was the sea with the dawning sun making
a golden dazzle over it, and toward that glorious east flew two hawks with slow moving pinions
(Jewett 1602). This quote shows that Sylvia s view is coming from the treetop; and she sees the
sea and two hawks. At some point in the story, both characters were near a type of water; Peyton
was by a stream and Sylvia was

U.s. War On Terrorism Essay
The United States vision of and for the world changed dramatically, and perhaps permanently, on
September 11, 2001. The aftermath frightened and impacted the nation s reputation, and in order
to measure the nature and extent of our policies, it is important to understand our efforts after this
national attack on US soil. Many interesting documents released earlier that year provides a
detailed perspective of America s economic policies and actions towards the War on Terror. The
U.S. came out with a massive debt that has impacted the nation in several ways, but this leads to a
basic question with a complex answer: How did the U.S. War on Terrorismimpact the American
Debt Crisis? After researching further into the 9/11 attacks, clearly most of the money put into
the war was wasted or misspent. Even though it was crucial going after the terrorists, especially
since they had taken many lives and were capable to repeating their attack caused fear throughout
the nation. It is important to signal out that the U.S. was attacked from a terrorist organization
that had their focus on the U.S. for a long time. The impact that this served after 9/11 plays a clear
role in defining the results of how these economic policies were taken into action. After looking
over this tragic event in the U.S. history, there should have been a very high consideration towards
how the money was going to be used in an effort to defeat terrorismbefore this event occurred. The
top priority for the U.S. has

Raisin in the Sun - play vs movie
The film did a very good job of portraying the emotions the characters were experiencing during the
play.
The strongest scene in he book would have to be when Walter turned down the money he would get
for not moving into the neighborhood . I felt this took a lot of guts on his part. I also thought that
this was a turning point in the novel. By Walter not accepting the money it showed that he not only
grew through out the play, but also that he put many things into perspective. His family became
the most integrate part of his life, by the end of the novel he realized what was more important. He
took a stand for not only him self but for his family when he didn t accept the buyout. I think
Walter s unexpected decision to save his integrity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Walter seems to be overcome with a search for power and a drive to become wealthy and leave
the life of being a worker behind him. It also shows that he cares for his family seeing how he is
striving to give them the best, but that aspect is overshadowed by his greed. I feel the scene also
shows the Younger family at its lowest point in the movie. Walter is on the complete edge and is
thinking of stealing a community s money and the rest of the family, besides Momma, seemed to
lose their faith and trust in him. When things seemed hopeless with the loss of the money, they
only became worse as a loss in more than money occurred. A loss in their character, faith, history,
and respect for each other overcame the family, particularly Walter and Beneatha. Nevertheless,
Momma soon sets Beneatha straight with an emotional and positive speech about how there is
always something left to love and sets the standard that the family should adhere to. It marks the
turning point at the end of the movie
There were few differences between the movie and the book Raisin in the Sun. I felt that the movie
just gave you a visual to understand and relate to the characters more. The one major difference
between the two was the sequence of events from the movie to the book.
The most dramatic scene for me was when Bobo tells Walter Lee that Willie ran off with his
money. I really
felt that he was going to physically hurt Bobo. I chose this scene because I

Support Transportation Changes Throughout Different Periods
Central Government.
The participation of the central government willing to support transportation changes appeared at
different periods. The first attempt was during the administration of LeГіn Febres Cordero (1984
1998) giving support to the Empresa Municipal de Transporte. After him, Rodrigo Borja s (1988
1992) team developed plans that will improve transportation in the city. Their main idea was to
acquire a train to connect the south of the city with the valleys. Nevertheless, that option was not
the best alternative due to the few population living at the valleys (Interviewer X, 2016). During
this administration, ideas of decentralizing power to local authorities grew, and the congress began
to discuss about it . Finally, Sixto ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

budget and credit for it . To sum up, the central government might have had differences with the
municipality and different projects in mind yet they always supported projects that will benefits

The negotiation of the funding had to be government government and CONADE (National Council

investments on local projects. Their work was to analyze, comment, advice and suggest to the
relevant authorities about the conditions of the investment and the investor so they can make the

offered by the different companies that participated on the bidding for the development of
TrolebГєs and provide reports about each tender and gave the final results to the municipality so
they can make the final decision.

Uranus Experiments
Before being known as a planet Uranus was mistaken for a star. Probably the first time that
Uranus was observed was by Hipparchus of Nicaea. Hipparchus did mistaken Uranus for a star.
Hipparchus may have recorded it as a star for his star catalogue that was later incorporated into
Ptolemy s Almagest (1). William Herschel first observed Uranus on March 13, 1781 from the
garden of his house at 19 New King Street in Bath, Somerset, England. Herschel engaged in a
series of observations on the parallax of the fixed stars. Using a telescope of his own design.
When William first wrote on his journal about the discovery that he made, he said that he had
found a comet. He believed that he had found a comet, but he was also comparing it to a planet. So,
William was wondering if what he found was a comet or if it was a planet. William Herschel wrote
to Astronomer Royal, Nevil Maskelyne saying: I don t know what to call it. It is as likely to be a
regular planet moving in an orbit nearly circular to the sun as a Comet moving in a very eccentric
ellipsis. I have not yet seen any coma or tail to it (2).
Although William continued to say that he had found a comet, other astronomers started to think
otherwise. Other astronomers started to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Mummification In Egyptian Mythology
A dark room with quiet voices chanting sacred incantations. Four jars rest upon a table, now full.
The smell of chemicals lingers in the air, and men lean over a form covered in linen. The stillness
in the air is palpable; all is silent except for the praying. Extravagant items, precious jewels, and
coins litter the table next to the form. These treasured objects will soon be with the dead around the
sarcophagus. After the mummification is finished, the bodywill be transported into a pyramidal
tomb where the spirit will travel to the Afterlife with his possessions. All of these steps were a part
of the holy rite to help the deceased on his journey. If one step was done incorrectly, the embalming
would be for nothing. The process of mummification... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is an accurate representation of Osiris: the King of the Dead. In Egyptian mythology, Osiris
was killed and cut apart by his brother, Seth, but put back together by Isis, the sister and wife of
Osiris. (Ikram and Dodson 103). He was then embalmed and mummified by Anubis, the God of
Mummification. Osiris was the first mummy and represented rebirth. The process of
mummification took place over three thousand years and came to a close at the start of the
Christian era (Ikram and Dodson 120). The words mummy and mummification are from the
Persian word, bitumen, which has to do with resin and pitch, or unrefined oil (Dictionary.com).
This definition makes sense since resin was used to secure the linens onto the body. The first
mummies were unintentional. These ancient Egyptians were buried in the fetal position, thrown
into shallow graves in the sand with only religious items (Brier 15). The desert sand and dry air
naturally preserved the bodies, and the Egyptians discovered that the human remains were
preserved when the bodies were uncovered by the sand or wild dogs dug them up. The Egyptians
then developed a method to preserve the bodies of kings, queens, and

Art And The Holocaust
In just twelve years, a heinous vision executed nearly six million Jewish people at the hands of
Hitler and his followers, making the Holocaust debatably the most tragic and shameful event
recorded in Earth s history. During this time, different races, ethnicities, and religious groups were
persecuted and annihilated for their beliefs that conflicted with Hitler s persistence to eliminate the
flaws of humanity. Hitler and his followers had one goal in mind: to cultivate a master race for the
next generation. Under his guidance for Germany, countries were destroyed and millions were
killed. Pain, death and suffering for millions, put towards an effort that would forever haunt
survivors, and leave future generations struggling to grasp at understanding the past. As time has
gone by, the number of Holocaust survivors has been decreasing expeditiously and history seems
to be slipping away from one s fingertips; however, this specific strand of events and their survivor
s legacy is continuing to reside in the current era, especially through art and literature. Novels,
poetry, paintings, films, and other forms of art relating to the Holocaustquickly surfaced after the
occurrence and still continue today. Artists search for a catharsis from the atrocious genocide that
seems to surround them. With this newly spread genre of art, many critics rose up, like Adorno, a
German philosopher, to prove that these artistic representations were degrading to the survivors and

The employees get trained well enough where they feel confident that they can perform the tasks
required of them, meaning they were trained well and were well informed. One of the employees
was a shift supervisor and the other a regular employee, I believe that there was disagreement in
whether there was performance monitoring because the regular employee always feels that
whatever he or she does is being monitored. What I found strange was that the question if the
supervisor was present during the task was marked NO for both of the employees. I would have
assumed that the regular employee would have marked yes but I can only assume that they believed
the question meant the manager the person who supervises every employee.
Hypothetical Intervention
If I were to intervene on employees not giving customer greetings I would make it so that the door
would have a sound when opened. Like what some stores have that when someone enters a ding
sound is heard. That will alert the employee that a customer has entered. Another method could be
getting the manager to deliver performance feedback in regards to the greetings in an effort to
make the employees more aware that they need to do a better job at it. Preferably in a group, like
mentioned in class to not alienate a person.

Personal Electronics, Clothing, And Vacation Destination
1.Consider the last purchase you made in these categories: personal electronics, clothing, and
vacation destination. To what extent was your purchase decision influenced by decision making
complexity, individual influences, social influences, and situational influences? What specific
issues were the most influential in making the decision? How could a marketer have swayed
your decision in each case? When making majority of my purchases I do research on the item
and analyze all the reviews that are left from customers that have already purchased the item.
The last personal electronic that I purchased was my Apple MacBook. The decision making
complexity was not a major issue when making this purchase. I have owned many laptops and
they all seemed to have last for about three to four years. My wife has owned her MacBook for
almost ten years and has never had an issue. I knew I was going to buy a MacBook and all the
different specs that I could choose from never really made a difference. The individual influence
from my wife played a major role in this purchase. She has never had any problems with her
MacBook and pushed that I make the same purchase for my next computer. The social influence
was not a major factor in the decision to make the purchase as many of my friends did not own a
MacBook. The situational influence played two major factors against the purchase of the
MacBook. The software that a MacBook uses is different from Windows that majority of computers

Epic Hero In Beowulf
He would sleep in the fire, soon. His soul, left his flesh, flew to glory. This very quote from the
epic Beowulf, sets the tone and very intense qualities of older epics. This specific epic, focuses on
the hero and Beowulf, who is the only warrior capable of defeating the vicious villainous creature
Grendel, and his mother. Beowulfshares the qualities of many other epic heroes such as showing the
nature of being almost superhuman, being the deciding factor in the wellbeing of his people, and
showing uncontested bravery no matter the obstacle they must face. In more modern times, the
United StatesDelta Forcecan be considered an epic heroes based on the sheer values and courage
held by its members.
The United States 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment Delta, or Delta Force for short, is

missions, state of the art combat equipment, members from the highest echelon special operations
teams in the United States, and agonizing training regime, etcetera, has put this unit on the top.
Beowulf was considered the strongest man or warrior in his time, trekking through the unknowns,
journey s that felt like they would never end, battles that seemed to last forever. It is assumed
Beowulf can even be considered near superhuman. The same can be said for Delta operators whose
training, selection, and missions are near impossible for the average person. The operators must

The Scramble for Africa
What was the Scramble for Africa?
The Scramble for Africa was a period of time where major European countries fought over and
colonized land in Africa, stretching from South Africa to Egypt. The scramble for Africa began
shortly after the slave trade, and ended at WW1, and is a strong representation of the New
Imperialism . The first country to act was Belgium, who colonized Congo at 1885, but soon, other
countries such as Portugal and Great Britain joined in in order to not miss out. Firstly, the European
could not colonize Africa easily, due to Africa s giant land mass and the diseases that spread
throughout the land. But then, came the Steam train, Maxim guns and new cures for diseases that

African kings were also uncivilized and barbaric and most of them were a long time before their
age, with the exception of some, most famously Shaka, the king of the Zulus in pre scramble
Africa. And on top of all that, there were some mercenaries fighting for the Europeans.
The Africans fought each other:
African warlords were actually fighting each other during the scramble for Africa, while the treaty
of Berlin kept the European countries from doing the same, even though they had a scandal over
Ethiopia, and thus resulting in a double war for many of the Africans, which had made the war
much harder than it should have been for them.
Europeans had obviously better technology:
One of the most obvious and dominant factors of how did European countries colonize Africa was
the fact that they had much better weapons and technology to fight with, such as the invention of
the steam train, steam boat and the Maxim gun, while the African tribes were using sticks, swords
and spears Europeans were using nearly 2000 years ago as Greek warriors. Apart from weapons,
Europeans also had the more advance medical technology used to heal wounded soldiers or the sick.
How has this affected Africa and the world?
Change in Geographical Order:
For many years, African tribes ruled Africa with their own borders of the empire. Until the
Europeans came along, the tribes ruled their empires land as they pleased, with no third

Southeast Asian Identity

Making a check with Oxford Dictionary; Southeast Asia is defined as the part of south eastern
Asia that includes the countries of Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Burma (Myanmar), the
Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. A region refers to an area, especially part of a
country or the world having definable characteristics but not always fixed boundaries, and an
identity refers to a close similarity or affinity (Oxford University Press n.d.). Now, if we relook at
the definition of each word in the sentence, SEA is a region without an identity, you do see a

neighbouring countries could be separated by mountains and yet, the Mekong River collectively
flows across and joins Burma/Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Thailand and China s Yunnan
Province (Jonsson 2008). As such, these countries share certain relations and ties in order to
provide security and to enhance trade along the river so that they may prosper. Furthermore, studies
provide evidences that Southeast Asia today displays more homogeneity and convergence than
ever before (Acharya 2000) due to the increasing integration and globalisation processes and the
increasing socioeconomic disparities in society. The term unity in diversity could also be used to
overcome the disparities in culture or practices in between countries and create a more coherent
region in terms of social, economic or political stability which then in turn aids in integration
within a region and form a regional identity as of the case study of the European Union (EU)
(Hellstrom 2003).

hand out to Donald Muller; the only African American boy at Saint Nicholas Catholic School. The
dean Sister Aloysius, accused him of wrongful doing to the young boy, who he was only looking
after. Donald Muller has been caught drinking wine at school and instead of kicking him out or
punishing him. Father Flynn gave him another chance and kept his secret to himself. However,
Sister Aloysius and her acquaintance Sister James think otherwise. While they sat around and
discussed how Donald Muller has a protector, Father Flynn. Sister Aloysius and Sister James were
very brave to question their superior Father Flynn, they believe he could ve been

A Farewell To Arms Rhetorical Analysis
I have a simple philosophy: Fill what s empty. Empty what s full. Scratch where it itches.
(Longworth). In the novel, A Farewell to Arms, Ernest Hemingway conveys this simple
philosophy to tell the story of Frederic s internal battle between love and war. Frederic is
internally attempting to fill the empty void in his heart with love, while simultaneously emptying
the overflowing bucket of harsh memories from war. The itch of every man is the love of a
woman, and this itch is especially growing within Frederic, because, as the musical about men alone
at war, South Pacific, states, There is nothing like a dame. Ernest Hemingwayenhances the novel by
using several rhetorical strategies such as simple diction, syntax, foreshadowing, and... Show more

Throughout the novel, the rain is consistently brought up when Catherine reveals All right. I m
afraid of the rain because sometimes I see me dead in it, (Hemingway 126). The rain is not only
foreshadowing, yet it is a metaphor to death. For example, when Aymo, Tenente, Piani, Bonello,
and Frederic were on a road that led to a river (Hemingway 209) , when it began to rain again.
Which led to a shooting between Germans (supposedly) and the men. The constant repetition of
rain when death is present shows the metaphor that rain itself brings to the book. When rain
comes, death follows. The novel ends with Frederic leaving the hospital after Catherine has died,
it begins to rain. Since rain is shown at the end, maybe the author is leaving the reader of the
thought of Frederic going downhill in the future. The presence of rain equates to the presence of
death. This use of rain as a metaphor for death shows Hemingway s attitude through the
relationship between Frederic and Catherine. Rain is temporary, it comes when a cloud overflows
with moisture and disappears when the sun shines brightly, as goes the relationship between the
two. It comes and goes, explodes and disappears, just like the rain from the

Introduction: *demonstrate a sound*
Describe the structure of the ear. The Pinna is a ridged cartilage flap covered by skin. The
Meatus is made up of skin and bone. The Tympanic Membrane, is a concave shaped layer of
membrane with the visual of a flattened cone (AAC). The hammer doesn t really live up to its
name, it looks more like a golf club. The Anvil resembles a snag tooth while the stirrup mirrors its
name. The Cochlea is a membrane covered spiral shaped tube. The Auditory nerve is made up of
several tubes ending in terminals.

Outer Ear: The Pinna gathers sound and sends it down the ear canal. The twists and folds of the
pinna enhance high frequency (pitched) sounds and also help us to determine the direction of
the sound source (AAC). Ear wax is developed by two thirds of the ear s external canal, the
remaining is bone. The Meatus or ear canal is a 2 3 cm of cartilage that strengthens the sound
coming in. Middle Ear: The Tympanic Membrane is hit by sound waves causing the eardrum to
vibrate as such then transferring that energy into mechanical energy. Out of the eardrum and onto
three bones, Malleus which is connected to the drum passing sounds on to the Incus that sits on
top of the hammer and collects vibrations. Ending with the Stapes which is responsible for
compression of the waves so they can travel through the inner ear. The Cochlea is home to many
nerve cells that are capable of damaging and are impossible to grow back. The Cochlea s
frequency selectivity refers to the ability of the auditory system to identify tonal components in
complex sound. It largely depends on the filtering ability of the cochlea and its tuning properties are
determine by the amplification mechanisms of the cochlear outer hair cells (BioMedical
Engineering). The Auditory Nerve sends all electrical impulses to the brain, starting the process of

Young Goodman Brown leaves his wife to embark on a journey of self discovery to explore his
dark side. Brown knows he is going to meet the Devil in the dark forest that states that he is
familiar with evil. He is running an errand for the Devil, which is not an ethical activity according
to his religion. Brown starts his journey by entering the Devil s forest with malicious intentions.
According to Brown, There may be a devilish Indian behind every tree, said GoodmanBrown to

Endangered Animals
The world is facing many serious issues in this day and time. One of the major one is endangered
species. These organisms are living on the edge of extinction. There are many things that threaten
these species like loss of habitat, lack of food, hunting and many more. The victim of this
horrendous crime against living organisms is the fastest running mammal called Cheetah,
scientifically known as Acinonyx jubatus .
Cheetahs are true carnivores which means they depend on meat for survival. They use high speed
to easily hunt their prey. Primary diet of cheetah consists of springbok, ostriches, impala, deer,
gazelles, warthogs, birds, hares, young zebras etc. These animals tend to target younglings because
of the greater rate of success. And while hunting these species like to stalk their prey for 10 50m
and then start sprinting towards it. During this time frame, their bodies are under immense strain
and pressure as a result their body temperature rises to its highest.
These mammals live in the dry grasslands of sub Saharan Africa, and in eastern and southern parks.
Some can also be found in southern Algeria, northern Niger and Iran. Today Namibia has the
largest population of cheetahs living in Africa. It is very hard to believe that these species use to
roam around nearly all of Africa and much of Asia, but now they are driven out of 91% of its
historic range. These animals are nearly extinct in Asia, only around 50 of these individual are

Soft Skills And Race Summary
Soft Skills and Race is about racial inequality the racial gap in male employment rates. The article
focuses on the difficulties that Black males face in securing employment in urban areas to illustrate
this issue. The main point that the authors try to get across is that unemployment is in issue in the
Black community, mostly due to prejudices and stereotypes about blacks, specifically about Black
men, that need to be resolved. They assert that the growing importance of soft skills, or social
skills, attitude, and personality, has not been used to explain the racial gap in male employment
rates, even though research has shown that employers of entry level work believe it is the most
important hiring criterion. The decline of unskilled... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

such as how NAFTA de industrialized America and decreased the number of entry level jobs.
Because with more entry level jobs, there would be less competition and Black males may have
a better chance of securing employment. Liberals would view their article in a very positive light
and agree with it, while both Conservative ideologies would likely disagree, saying we live in a
post racial society where there is no racial discrimination at all. Other Conservatives would assert
that this issue exists because of Black males individual life choices, such as a decision to attain a

CAN MUSCLE WEAKNESS LEAD TO PARALYSIS
At some point of time most of us observe tiredness and reduced power leading to fatigue. This
common complaint can be regarded as muscle weakness which is commonly heard of. But the
word weakness may be defined differently in different cases . A feeling of tiredness or body fatigue
can be coined as weakness. If a person is unable to move a certain part of their body , he could be
experiencing weakness. This weakness can be restricted to a particular area of the body such as
arms or legs or can be observed as full body weakness. Muscle weakness can be mild or severe,
temporary or permanent, reversible or irreversible.

Once completed, the corporate assets should be more than adequate to support MRP usage along
with other corporate endeavors in the ERP realm.
Based on input from the software vendor, the MRP will be capable of handling an increase in
activity generated by the corporate goal of increased sales and marketing.
Economic feasibility was assessed as follows:
MRP will reduce operational cost by a minimum of 10% by eliminating surge hiring and purchasing
to meet production needs.
MRP will reduce cycle time by a minimum of 15% by normalizing the production lines and
quantities of products on hand or in production.
MRP will reduce on hand stock of finished products by up to 30% by reducing lead times
associated with production and procurement of raw materials.
Break even point will be realized within 6 months of implementation.
MRP will result in greater customer satisfaction as lead times are reduced or eliminated in purchase
to delivery times.
The current business process can be summarized both verbally and visually. Currently raw
materials are ordered and stockpiled. Once an order is received, the material on hand is reviewed to
ensure sufficient quantities are available. If sufficient quantities are not on hand additional
materials are ordered. Deliverables are manufactured and shipped to the customer. Review of raw
materials on hand is

Cultural Culture Courtship And Marriage
Cultural relativism says that we must examine cultural practices within a cultural context, seeking
to understand different practices from the eye of those who practice them. It is sometimes hard to
understand other cultures from an emic perspective, and there is a tendency to favor your culture,
viewing it as superior. It is helpful to change your perspective, assuming an outside view towards
your culture and taking an inside look at another. Over the course of this paper, I will explain my
American Culture courtshipand marriagetraditions through the etic eye to show the perspective to
an outsider, and I will examine an aspect of the Sub Saharan African polygyny marriage from an
emic perspective to become familiar with this lifestyle.
In this section, I will examine the American culture in courtship and marriage from an etic
perspective. As Crapo(2013) describes etic as etic models invariably describe cultures in ways that
seem alien to its participants but facilitate comparisons between cultures and the discovery of
universal principles in the structure and functioning of cultures (p.27). In the article Body Ritual
among the Nacierema, Miner(1956) describes an aspect of the Nacierema culture from an etic
perspective, allowing readers to realize the Nacierema are Americans. From an etic eye, Americans
practice probably seems as strange to an outsider, as their culture is to ours. In American culture,
there is courtship and marriage. Courtship in

separate from that theme, essentially until the end of the book, Clarissa. Clarissa never faces

separated from death in the story? Clarrisa lives her life isolated from the world of death; she
goes on to her parties and other social events like they are the only important thing in the world.
Then at the end of the book, during the part she has spent so much time and effort on, the only
thing that the people are talking about is some random guy that killed himself. At first, it looks
as if Clarissa is outraged at the idea that someone would do such a thing to ruin her party, but then
something happens. Clarissa embraces the concept of death in a Poe esk manner, Death was
defiance. Death was an attempt to communicate; people feeling the impossibility of reaching the
center which, mystically, evaded them; closeness drew apart; rapture faded, one was alone. There
was an embrace in death (Woolf 180). That seems strange, that someone how has been so far from

This is a place where children between the ages of thirteen through eighteen grow to discover their

The reason why I say this is because one of the key things I feel that makes Chicago so violent,
is because most children and teenager s brains are not taught well that violence is not the way
out to whatever situation they have going on in their lives. According to United States
Department of Justice, Facts about Children and Violence, Children exposed to violence are
also at a higher risk of engaging in criminal behavior later in life becoming part of a cycle of
violence. Whatever they have experienced or been taught is how they will react to any situation
which may just be violence or drugs and alcohol. That is why the murder rate from teenagers is
so high because they feel the beats and lyrics in some of the music that they listen to and react
how certain artists portray themselves and others in their songs. They probably feel as though
this gives them the power to do anything they want to do far as killing people or selling drugs,
much more because a lot of music artists today only talks about violence in their songs. While
talking to children and a few camp counselor I learned that children feel intimidated when adults
see them and don t speak so one of the things adults can do to stand up to help the environment is
to engage more with one another and children to make the kids feel safe rather than on edge which

The Influence Of Procreation With The Bigfoot
I give a warning to those who research them, that seek them out, that want to have an encounter,

Fortunately, most of my experiences with the Bigfoot were not negative in nature. Good deeds
stories concerning the Bigfoot do exist. These include, helping the lost, caring for the injured,
caring for lost children in the wilderness, and leaving food gifts. These acts, by the Bigfoot, imparts
the impression of a friendly benevolent creature. Regrettably, I think is this is a deception. Only
God knows their true intent, nonetheless given their nature and origin, I would never trust one. ...

In the 1690 s an Italian scientist invented a solar furnace that was so hot it could shatter a diamond,
one of the hardest substances on earth (Asimov 119).
The real question around the beginning of the 19th century concerning solar energy was
quot;could the sun produce electricity directly? quot; The main motivation behind this desire was
that electricity could be stored in a battery, and used later. It would not be necessary to use the
device in the sunlight. All inventions failed, until Frank Shuman, an engineer from Pennsylvania
finally made a breakthrough. He built an experimental plant that used black troughs covered in
glass with a few inches of water. When exposed to the sun, the water got very hot, causing it to
circulate and power an electric generator. His data was so convincing that he got financial
backers and built the world s first solar electric power plant in Egypt. However, the Eastern Sun
Power Company went out of business even though it was using free fuel. It didn t produce enough
electricity for the area that it used, 14,000 sq. ft of sun collecting land (Zweibel 48).

The On The Pretty Horses, The Gift Of Cochise, And The...
Frontiersmen have existed throughout America s history. According to Turner s hypothesis, they
push forwards for civilization and have shaped America. The stories All the Pretty Horses, The Gift
of Cochise, and The Martian are all works of frontier literature. Each in their own way show
frontiersmen during different times in America s history with characters that interact with their
respective frontiers in different ways. Through these three books one can see how the core
interactions between frontiersmen and the frontiers call out the qualities of frontiersmen stated in
Turner s frontierhypothesis.
Set in the 1860s, a time where the frontier still existed in the Indian and Western territories, The
Gift of Cochise showcases how isolation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Fidel Castro Is Alive
Upon his release, Castro went to Mexico where he spent the next year organizing the 26th of
July Movement , which was based on the date of the failed Santiago de Cuba barracks attack. On
December 2, 1956, Castro and the rest his fellow rebels of the 26th of July Movement landed on
Cuban soil with the intention of starting a revolution. They were only met with the welcome of
heavy Batista defenses, causing nearly everyone in the Movement to be killed. Barely anyone
escaped, and those who did which included Castro and his brother RaГєl fled the scene to avoid
being jailed. For the next two years, Castro continued guerrilla attacks and succeeded in gaining
large numbers radical followers. Using guerrilla warfare tactics, Castro became known... Show

Fidel and the Soviet Union then saw that their relationship could be very beneficial and this
incident helped lead to their decision to place nuclear missiles in Cuba.
Only a few months after the United States sponsored Cuban invasion at the Bay of Pigs, Fidel
Castro had declared himself to be Marxist Leninist, obligating the Soviet Union to protect his
vulnerable communist nation. After Fidel asked the Soviet Union for weapons, trade alliances,
and even Soviet soldiers, the Soviets suggested a different approach medium range ballistic
missiles. Castro agreed, and in 1962, Cuba was the center of world focus when the United States
discovered the construction sites of Soviet nuclear missiles on Cuban soil. Posing an obvious
threat to American safety, the Cuban Missile Crisis, brought the world the closest it ever came to
nuclear war. As the tensions of the Missile Crisis grew, Castro wrote Soviet leader Nikita
Khrushchev urging him to use the missiles and to sacrifice Cuba if necessary. Being only 90 miles
from the US mainland, President Kennedy urged a need for the missiles to be dismantled. The
Soviet Union finally agreed to remove the missiles on the condition that the United States
dismantles its nuclear weapons deployed in Turkey and that they sign a pledge not to invade Cuba.

Negative Effects Of Drugs In Sports
I believe that performance enhancing drugs are recognized as a negative effect to the sports society
because of the effects and unfair advantage it gives athletes. Athletes who are serious about their
game want to win at any cost and some do so using performance enhancing drugs. These
performance enhancing drugs include: anabolic steroids, androstenedione, human growth hormone,
erythropoietin, diuretics, creatine and stimulants.
Every college athlete wants to be the best and with the increase of childhood athletes, stress to
perform at a high level increase as well. The drive to be successful in their competition and
perform at a high level often is positive, resulting in self confidence, teamwork, and leadership. The
drive can also result in a negative one as well. For an example, winning at all costs. Athletes
sometimes lose focus of the game itself and become selfish, taking performance enhancing drugs it
not only puts athlete s health at risk but it also gives them unfair advantage to others. Testosteroneis
a sex hormone that plays an important role in our body, especially men. In men, it regulates sex
drive, bone mass, fat distribution, muscle mass and strength. There are two different effects that
testosterone has on our body: Anabolic effects (promotes muscle building) and Androgenic effects
(facial hair deeper voice). This hormone is largely responsible for our muscle tissue and our total
metabolic rate. When testosterone levels increase, so does our

The Struggles of Immigrant Women in the Early Twentieth...
Between the years of 1840 and 1914, about forty million people immigrated to the United States
from foreign countries. Many of them came to find work and earn money to have a better life for
their families. Others immigrated because they wanted to escape the corrupt political power of
their homelands, such as the revolution in Mexico after 1911. Whatever the case, many found it
difficult to begin again in a new country. Most immigrants lived in slums with very poor living
conditions. They had a hard time finding work that paid enough to support a family. Not only was it
difficult for immigrant men, but for women as well. Immigrant women faced many challenges
including lack of education and social life as well as low wages and poor... Show more content on

When Sara is out selling herring to earn money for dinner, she says, Nothing was before me but
the hunger in our house, and no bread for the next meal if I didn t sell the herring. This shows
just how desperate Sara and her family are for money to put food on the table. Many immigrant
families struggled to make ends meet even with all the members of their families working. They
had to live in tenements and endure poor living conditions because they used the little income that
they received to pay for food. In the book, the family s kitchen at dinner time is described by
saying, The stove was cold. No food was on the table. The Smolinsky family struggles to put food
on the table every night, so they could not think about sending one of their daughters to school
when they desperately need money themselves. Women were simply not given the opportunity to
educate themselves and therefore it was hard for them to pursue any sort of career in America.
With the lack of education for these women, it also took away from any kind of social life they
may have had. It was hard for a young immigrant woman to go out and find a fitting husband
because she was always working to support her family. Many families could not afford to let their
daughters get married because that would mean less income for them. Several fathers only wanted
to marry off their daughters to

Metaphors In The Glass Castle
The Glass Castle is a memoir of Jeannette Walls experience and her tempestuous upbringing. Her
father was a charismatic and intelligent man, but when he drank he was dishonest and couldn t
hold a job. Their mother was a free spirit who felt confined by the responsibilities of motherhood,
and sought refuge in her blind optimism. Without steady parental figures, Jeannette and her siblings
turned to each other for support. Eventually, they made their way to New York to build lives for
themselves. Their parents followed, choosing to be homeless. The novel is latent with metaphors,
the biggest one being the title itself. The Glass Castleis an idea cooked up by her father, a luxurious
structure in the desert that runs on solar panels. He carries around blueprints for it, and while living
in Welch, Jeannette and her brother actually dig a large hole for the foundation. However,
Jeannette is struck with the reality that the Glass Castle will never come to be when her father
tells her to throw their accumulating garbage into the hole meant intended for it s foundation,
since he can t afford the trash collection fee. As Jeanette nears adulthood and her plans to follow
her sister to New York inch closer, she tells her father, Go ahead and build the Glass Castle, but
don t do it for me (Walls 238). This is a turning point for her, because she lets go of the Glass
Castle, a symbol of her father s empty promises and illusions, to move away and better herself.

Women In The Canterbury Tales
During the middle ages, women were abiding to their husbands. Women didn t have power but
are treated as an object. Women take care of the house and bear a child. Men have power and are
in charge of the relationships. In The Canterbury Tales the Wife of Bath sets as a counter of women
in the middle ages.
The Wife of Bath is liked by Chaucer because she is distinctive. Her distinctive traits make her
appealing and memorable. The Wife of Bath got married 5 times. During the middle age, women
commonly get married once. Unlike the women of the middle age the Wife of Bath acquired
power. I never would abide in bed with them if hands began to slide till they had promised ransom,
paid a fee: and then I let them do their nicety. (Pg 269) By making

Negative Effects Of War
War has many negative affects on people. Someone always suffers a consequence of war and it
doesn t end well. Not only are soldiers affected by war, but also the civilians they try to protect.
In the poems; Memorial Tablet written by Siegfried Sassoon and In Flanders Fields written by
John McCrae, we can see the first negative impact war has. Soldiers are robbed by death of the
ability to live a normal life.
In the book Catching Falling Stars by Karen McCombie, and the T.V series M.A.S.H produced by
Larry Gelbart we see how war has negative effects on the safety of civilians.

In Flanders Fields the soldiers spend their lives fighting for something they believe in but they
never get to see the results of what they ve fought so hard to accomplish. In Memorial Tablet, the
soldier knew that there was more to his life than dying in a war and he s mad because he never
gets to experience the greater side of life which was taken away. Though there are two
perspectives that the soldiers had, they both ended up dying before getting to enjoy life. This
proves that the negative affects of war on soldiers are that they don t get to live a normal life
because it s taken away from them by death.
Another way that war has negative effects is on the safety of civilians. During war, airmen tend
to drop bombs on civilians without thinking of the damage they can cause. In Catching Faling
stars , two children suffer the affects of air raids. They were living in London during a time of
war, so they knew to expect danger. A siren rang warning them of an air raid so they hid in their
basement with their neighbour but it wasn t enough to protect them. When the bomb landed and
exploded, they were all separated from each other. One of the children suffered from a temporary
hearing loss and many scars, while the other sibling also had many scars. Unfortunately their
neighbour died. Their mother thought it would be safer if they were sent to the country as
evacuees, but even

Human Resource Policies And Human Resources
Human resources policies are at the heart of every business but when companies deviate from
those policies or create a culture of their own polices that can be a recipe for disaster. Having
strong human resource policies can distinguish companies from the rest and set them out to be the
best but in the case of the following companies human resource policieswe either neglected or
altered and it cost the company more in the end. The nature of business is to make money and the
policies set forth by human resourcesare the ethical guidelines that enable companies to
accomplish that with respect to the financial world that they are involved. I will look into the
policies and see whether they were a sound from the beginning or whether the policies were
doomed from the start. I will see whether the policies had any ethical merits and how this was
overlooked it there was a good foundation. I will look into some problems with human resource
policies then I will go over companies polices that caused a near bankruptcy and a company policy
that caused a complete failure.
The Risky Business of Human Resource Policies The foundation of any business starts with its
policies and if that foundation is not build with strong ethical policies then the business will likely
fail. The human resource department of a company has to maintain polices on how employees
should conduct themselves and some policies encourage growth and strength within the company

History Of The Age Of Enlightenment
The Age of Enlightenment was arguably one of the most defining eras in history regarding the
transition of cultures from pre modern traditions to current modern thought and philosophy. The
Enlightenment came about through many intellectuals desires to separate from centuries old
political and social traditions, such as absolutism and divine right. The movement advocated the use
of reason rather than focusing on religion and began to break away from the bonds of religious
tyranny, as well as long standing notions of sovereignty. The Enlightenment age was the means for
these intellectuals to publish their philosophies and theories, which in turn initiated revolution in
political and social practices throughout Europe and consequently the entire... Show more content

Important to these political societies, was what Locke described as a government with a

governments throughout Europe and the world. Many of the policies and governing laws

The Myth of Individualism
The Myth of Individualism
America is famous for the reputation of being the land of opportunity, and for generations
immigrants have fled to the United States to experience the freedom and equality our government
lays claim to. The fundamental of this reputation is the American Dream, the belief that life should
be better and richer and fuller for everyone, with opportunity for each by hard working regardless
of social class or circumstances of birth(by James Truslow Adams). The American Dream is
different for everyone, though it is most commonly associated with success, freedom, and
happiness. The concept of the American Dream seems to have dwindled from where it was in the
past few generations. It has gone from success, freedom, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Class distinction provides not only feelings of inferiority for the lower classes, but monetary
inadequacy as well. Higher class children have an advantage from birth since they are guaranteed
large sums of money at some time in their lives. Furthermore, it is known that it takes money to
make money in a capitalistic system and so the inheritance laws only widen the gap between the
rich and poor, keeping the lower class exactly where they started: on the bottom. The American
dream can only offer empty promises of equal opportunity to succeed. People are driven to work
hard by the notion of success without having almost any chance to succeed. However, because the
American Dream is so deeply embedded in our culture, it greatly influences our perception of
others and our perception of success. The all you need is hard work to succeed mindset has
encouraged Americans to flaunt costly possessions to give the persona of a hard worker, while
Americans who do not own extravagant objects are looked at as lazy or incompetent. In reality,
most cases are opposite. It is undeniable that an American laboring long hour for minimum wage
works harder than an American who doesn t maintain a job because he lives off inheritance money,
but that is not what the myth has taught us.
Even for those who have completed the American Dream, it s not necessary a happy ending. In the
story Ragged Dick, Horatio Alger writes about a young man s progress from poor background that

Immigration Quota Law Of The 1920 s
Chicago s Al Capone. Prohibition remained law until 1933, just as the Twenty first Amendment
withdrew the Eighteenth Amendment.
The period between 1900 and 1915 is thought to be the peak of immigration. More than ten million
people came to the United States looking for a better future. The fact that these included Jews and
Catholics alerted older Anglo Saxon and Protestant American citizens. They also disliked the fact
that newcomers with their Old World customs, dared to compete for low wage jobs. As the tension
over immigration rose, a series of anti immigration measures were taken. Immigration Quota Law
of 1924 and a 1929 act, both of these laws limited the number of immigrants to over a hundred
thousand to be distributed among people of different nationalities as oppose to the number of the
fellow countrymen already living in the United States in 1920. ... Show more content on

Various literacy tests that prevented African Americans and other immigrants from voting were

deal with the terror of the Ku Klux Klan. Klansmen tortured and killed their victims, among them
Catholics, Jews, and immigrants. They were however, rarely punished for their violent actions.
By the end of the decade, the Klan s membership suddenly abated. Despite being known for the
prosperity and dissipation, this decade ended on October 24 1929 with the collapse of the stock

Life After St. Jerome s Indian Horse Novel Study
Life after St. Jerome s: Indian Horse Novel Study For years, First Nations children endured the
harrowing experiences of residential schools. It was not until 1996, did the final residential school
close down. It took over a hundred years of physical, physiological, and the sexual abuse of
thousands of children before residential schools existed no more. Although they do not exist
anymore, residential schools continue to cause pain throughout First Nationscommunities. There are
a variety of novels that describe the accounts of residential school survivors, both fiction and non
fiction, each powerful in their own way. Indian Horse, a novel by Richard Wagamese, is one of
these novels. The book follows Saul Indian Horse, a boy of Ojibwe descent, and his experiences
within St. Jerome s Indian Residential School. Saul turns to hockey as a form of protection
from the fowl memories of his experiences at St. Jerome s, using the game to ignore the sexual
abuse he endured. This denial results in Saul s pain, which comes out in the form anger on the
ice, and which ultimately results in him taking up alcohol. It is only when Saul returns to St.
Jerome s, that he is able to stop the denial, and begin his path to healing. Richard manages to lead
the reader down the same path of denial as Saul, therefore allowing the reader to experience the
same feeling of shock as felt by Saul in his moments of realization. Saul s denial of his sexual abuse

Ethnic Disparities In Health Care
Although most American citizens today associate racial and ethnic disparities in public health care
quality with socioeconomic status, a majority of studies performed conclude that these
discrepancies are still highly prevalent when the factor of one s socioeconomic status is taken out of
the equation. Healthdisparities for a certain minority result in a higher number of illness, injury, and
even mortality for that race or ethnicity in comparison to white Americans; therefore, health care
disparities can be defined as differences between groups in health coverage, specifically focusing
on both the quality and access to care. The Office of Management and Budget has created two
ethnic categories for all American citizens to fit into, being either... Show more content on

With this increased research and effort, Americans would be able to intervene and make positive
impacts with the state, tribal, and local levels to best address health disparities and inequalities. In
efforts to thwart ethnic and minority disparities, The Department of Health and Human Services
(HHS) passed the HHS Disparities Action Plan in order to establish a nation free of disparities in
health and health care, (Cooper 97) and to implement a series of priorities, strategies, actions, and
goals to achieve this vision. States, local communities, private organizations, and providers have
additionally engaged in efforts to reduce health disparities. With the HHS Disparities Action Plan,
the Department continuously assess policies and programs on racial and ethnic health disparities,
watching to see which policies make an impact on the level of health care received by minorities.

The Importance Of Guiding Young Children
Guiding young children is an awesome responsibility that requires patience, understanding,
flexibility, knowledge of child development and appropriate practices, intentional decision making,
but most of all guiding young children requires kindness and love. Guidance involves discipline, not
punishment. To begin our discussion on guidance let s first look at the difference between
discipline and punishment. Discipline is used to teach and guide. Punishment is used for the
purposes of controlling and retribution. (Godfrey, 2013) Guiding children does not mean taking
punitive action when they fail to meet an expectation. Instead, guiding means to help children learn
how to function suitably in a variety of social contexts. The goal is not to break a childs spirit,
causing them to fear harsh punishment or judgement. The goal is to teach them how to regulate
their emotions and actions, to develop control, so they can make safe, responsible decisions.
An adult who practices punishment, controls a child externally. This communicates to a child that
they are not able to control themselves, thus have no responsibility for their actions. Also, it can
create in the child s mind, the idea that they can commit a behavior so long as they do not get
caught or are willing to accept the consequences. Behavior that is modified with punishment does
not evolve from the understanding of what is expected in a society, but rather from fear. Since no
understanding was obtained this will not

Absentee Voting in the United States
The U.S Constitution gives the states considerable latitude in the way of conducting elections. The
American citizens have many opportunities to vote. However, a turnout in American elections has
dramatically decreased over the past several decades. In order to address this issue, majority of
states have allowed absentee votingreforms. These convenient reforms are thought to increase the
voter turnout in the elections, as well as to reduce administrative costs. There are several forms of
absentee voting that are believed to improve overall voting quality. Permanent absentee voting is
one of them. This particular rule allows the voter to vote absentee without requesting an absentee
ballot for each election(Sabato 2013, 98). Generally, permanent absentee voting was available for
military voter and individuals with disabilities in order to increase certain categories of voters.
Currently, According to National Conference of State Legislatures, every state permits an absentee
ballot to certain voters. While 27 states allow no excuse absentee voting, in other 21 states the
excuse is required. Eight states including Arizona, California, Colorado, District of Columbia,
Hawaii, Montana, New Jersey and Utah offer voters the option to register for no excuse permanent
absentee voter status. Five states such as Kansas, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Missouri and West
Virginia, allow permanent absentee voter status for voters with disability. While Alaska and

  • 2. Similarities Between An Occurrence At Owl Creek Bridge... The Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge, by Ambrose Bierce tells the story of a man being punished for a crime. While he is dying, he vividly imagines his escape, the one thing that urges him on is the thought of his family. White Heron, by Sarah Orne Jewett follows a girl named Sylvia who lives in a small country home with her grandmother. She has a simple life: walking with her cow and hanging out with the forest creatures. However, when a young hunter arrives on the scene with a very alluring offer, Sylvia is faced with a tough decision. The setting of the short story, An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge, is in northern Alabama during the Civil War. The short story, A White Heron , takes place in New England during the summer on a farm. Throughout the short stories both Jewett and Bierce, describe the similar scenes a pond, a forest, and a faint sunlight. One similarity between the short stories is both take place by some sort of water. Peyton was near a stream when he was shot and decided to tried another method of escaping. The humming of the gnats that danced above the eddies of the stream, the beating of the dragon flies wings, the strokes of the water spiders legs, like oars which had lifted their boat all these made audible music. A fish slid along beneath his eyes, and he heard the rush of its body parting the water (Bierce 1505). This quote describes a stream that was nearby Peyton. It describes a stream of water and the organisms that are surrounding the stream. Sylvia theory was that if a person climbed the tallest tree in the forest they would see the ocean. While on the hunt for the White Heron s nesting spot, she climbed the tallest tree. Sylvia s faced was like a pale star, if one had seen it from the ground, when the last thorny bough was past, and she stood trembling and tires but wholly triumphant, high in the tree top. Yes, there was the sea with the dawning sun making a golden dazzle over it, and toward that glorious east flew two hawks with slow moving pinions (Jewett 1602). This quote shows that Sylvia s view is coming from the treetop; and she sees the sea and two hawks. At some point in the story, both characters were near a type of water; Peyton was by a stream and Sylvia was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. U.s. War On Terrorism Essay The United States vision of and for the world changed dramatically, and perhaps permanently, on September 11, 2001. The aftermath frightened and impacted the nation s reputation, and in order to measure the nature and extent of our policies, it is important to understand our efforts after this national attack on US soil. Many interesting documents released earlier that year provides a detailed perspective of America s economic policies and actions towards the War on Terror. The U.S. came out with a massive debt that has impacted the nation in several ways, but this leads to a basic question with a complex answer: How did the U.S. War on Terrorismimpact the American Debt Crisis? After researching further into the 9/11 attacks, clearly most of the money put into the war was wasted or misspent. Even though it was crucial going after the terrorists, especially since they had taken many lives and were capable to repeating their attack caused fear throughout the nation. It is important to signal out that the U.S. was attacked from a terrorist organization that had their focus on the U.S. for a long time. The impact that this served after 9/11 plays a clear role in defining the results of how these economic policies were taken into action. After looking over this tragic event in the U.S. history, there should have been a very high consideration towards how the money was going to be used in an effort to defeat terrorismbefore this event occurred. The top priority for the U.S. has ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Raisin in the Sun - play vs movie The film did a very good job of portraying the emotions the characters were experiencing during the play. The strongest scene in he book would have to be when Walter turned down the money he would get for not moving into the neighborhood . I felt this took a lot of guts on his part. I also thought that this was a turning point in the novel. By Walter not accepting the money it showed that he not only grew through out the play, but also that he put many things into perspective. His family became the most integrate part of his life, by the end of the novel he realized what was more important. He took a stand for not only him self but for his family when he didn t accept the buyout. I think Walter s unexpected decision to save his integrity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Walter seems to be overcome with a search for power and a drive to become wealthy and leave the life of being a worker behind him. It also shows that he cares for his family seeing how he is striving to give them the best, but that aspect is overshadowed by his greed. I feel the scene also shows the Younger family at its lowest point in the movie. Walter is on the complete edge and is thinking of stealing a community s money and the rest of the family, besides Momma, seemed to lose their faith and trust in him. When things seemed hopeless with the loss of the money, they only became worse as a loss in more than money occurred. A loss in their character, faith, history, and respect for each other overcame the family, particularly Walter and Beneatha. Nevertheless, Momma soon sets Beneatha straight with an emotional and positive speech about how there is always something left to love and sets the standard that the family should adhere to. It marks the turning point at the end of the movie There were few differences between the movie and the book Raisin in the Sun. I felt that the movie just gave you a visual to understand and relate to the characters more. The one major difference between the two was the sequence of events from the movie to the book. The most dramatic scene for me was when Bobo tells Walter Lee that Willie ran off with his money. I really felt that he was going to physically hurt Bobo. I chose this scene because I ... The participation of the central government willing to support transportation changes appeared at different periods. The first attempt was during the administration of LeГіn Febres Cordero (1984 1998) giving support to the Empresa Municipal de Transporte. After him, Rodrigo Borja s (1988 1992) team developed plans that will improve transportation in the city. Their main idea was to acquire a train to connect the south of the city with the valleys. Nevertheless, that option was not the best alternative due to the few population living at the valleys (Interviewer X, 2016). Their work was to analyze, comment, advice and suggest to the relevant authorities about the conditions of the investment and the investor so they can make the final decision (Interviewer X, 2016). In this specific case, CONADE had to read the conditions offered by the different companies that participated on the bidding for the development of TrolebГєs and provide reports about each tender and gave the final results to the municipality so they can make the final decision. • 6. Uranus Experiments Before being known as a planet Uranus was mistaken for a star. Probably the first time that Uranus was observed was by Hipparchus of Nicaea. Hipparchus did mistaken Uranus for a star. Hipparchus may have recorded it as a star for his star catalogue that was later incorporated into Ptolemy s Almagest (1). William Herschel first observed Uranus on March 13, 1781 from the garden of his house at 19 New King Street in Bath, Somerset, England. Herschel engaged in a series of observations on the parallax of the fixed stars. Using a telescope of his own design. When William first wrote on his journal about the discovery that he made, he said that he had found a comet. He believed that he had found a comet, but he was also comparing it to a planet. So, William was wondering if what he found was a comet or if it was a planet. William Herschel wrote to Astronomer Royal, Nevil Maskelyne saying: I don t know what to call it. It is as likely to be a regular planet moving in an orbit nearly circular to the sun as a Comet moving in a very eccentric ellipsis. I have not yet seen any coma or tail to it (2). • 10. Mummification In Egyptian Mythology A dark room with quiet voices chanting sacred incantations. Four jars rest upon a table, now full. The smell of chemicals lingers in the air, and men lean over a form covered in linen. The stillness in the air is palpable; all is silent except for the praying. Extravagant items, precious jewels, and coins litter the table next to the form. These treasured objects will soon be with the dead around the sarcophagus. After the mummification is finished, the bodywill be transported into a pyramidal tomb where the spirit will travel to the Afterlife with his possessions. All of these steps were a part of the holy rite to help the deceased on his journey. If one step was done incorrectly, the embalming would be for nothing. The process of mummification... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is an accurate representation of Osiris: the King of the Dead. In Egyptian mythology, Osiris was killed and cut apart by his brother, Seth, but put back together by Isis, the sister and wife of Osiris. (Ikram and Dodson 103). He was then embalmed and mummified by Anubis, the God of Mummification. Osiris was the first mummy and represented rebirth. The process of mummification took place over three thousand years and came to a close at the start of the Christian era (Ikram and Dodson 120). The words mummy and mummification are from the Persian word, bitumen, which has to do with resin and pitch, or unrefined oil (Dictionary.com). This definition makes sense since resin was used to secure the linens onto the body. The first mummies were unintentional. These ancient Egyptians were buried in the fetal position, thrown into shallow graves in the sand with only religious items (Brier 15). The desert sand and dry air naturally preserved the bodies, and the Egyptians discovered that the human remains were preserved when the bodies were uncovered by the sand or wild dogs dug them up. • 11. Art And The Holocaust In just twelve years, a heinous vision executed nearly six million Jewish people at the hands of Hitler and his followers, making the Holocaust debatably the most tragic and shameful event recorded in Earth s history. During this time, different races, ethnicities, and religious groups were persecuted and annihilated for their beliefs that conflicted with Hitler s persistence to eliminate the flaws of humanity. Hitler and his followers had one goal in mind: to cultivate a master race for the next generation. Under his guidance for Germany, countries were destroyed and millions were killed. Pain, death and suffering for millions, put towards an effort that would forever haunt survivors, and leave future generations struggling to grasp at understanding the past. As time has gone by, the number of Holocaust survivors has been decreasing expeditiously and history seems to be slipping away from one s fingertips; however, this specific strand of events and their survivor s legacy is continuing to reside in the current era, especially through art and literature. Novels, poetry, paintings, films, and other forms of art relating to the Holocaustquickly surfaced after the occurrence and still continue today. Artists search for a catharsis from the atrocious genocide that seems to surround them. With this newly spread genre of art, many critics rose up, like Adorno, a German philosopher, to prove that these artistic representations were degrading to the survivors and the actual ... To what extent was your purchase decision influenced by decision making complexity, individual influences, social influences, and situational influences? What specific issues were the most influential in making the decision? How could a marketer have swayed your decision in each case? When making majority of my purchases I do research on the item and analyze all the reviews that are left from customers that have already purchased the item. The last personal electronic that I purchased was my Apple MacBook. The decision making complexity was not a major issue when making this purchase. I have owned many laptops and they all seemed to have last for about three to four years. My wife has owned her MacBook for almost ten years and has never had an issue. I knew I was going to buy a MacBook and all the different specs that I could choose from never really made a difference. The individual influence from my wife played a major role in this purchase. She has never had any problems with her MacBook and pushed that I make the same purchase for my next computer. The social influence was not a major factor in the decision to make the purchase as many of my friends did not own a MacBook. The situational influence played two major factors against the purchase of the MacBook. The software that a MacBook uses is different from Windows that majority of computers use. ... The Scramble for Africa was a period of time where major European countries fought over and colonized land in Africa, stretching from South Africa to Egypt. The scramble for Africa began shortly after the slave trade, and ended at WW1, and is a strong representation of the New Imperialism . The first country to act was Belgium, who colonized Congo at 1885, but soon, other countries such as Portugal and Great Britain joined in in order to not miss out. The Africans fought each other: African warlords were actually fighting each other during the scramble for Africa, while the treaty of Berlin kept the European countries from doing the same, even though they had a scandal over Ethiopia, and thus resulting in a double war for many of the Africans, which had made the war much harder than it should have been for them. Europeans had obviously better technology: One of the most obvious and dominant factors of how did European countries colonize Africa was the fact that they had much better weapons and technology to fight with, such as the invention of the steam train, steam boat and the Maxim gun, while the African tribes were using sticks, swords and spears Europeans were using nearly 2000 years ago as Greek warriors. In the novel, A Farewell to Arms, Ernest Hemingway conveys this simple philosophy to tell the story of Frederic s internal battle between love and war. Frederic is internally attempting to fill the empty void in his heart with love, while simultaneously emptying the overflowing bucket of harsh memories from war. The itch of every man is the love of a woman, and this itch is especially growing within Frederic, because, as the musical about men alone at war, South Pacific, states, There is nothing like a dame. Throughout the novel, the rain is consistently brought up when Catherine reveals All right. I m afraid of the rain because sometimes I see me dead in it, (Hemingway 126). The rain is not only foreshadowing, yet it is a metaphor to death. For example, when Aymo, Tenente, Piani, Bonello, and Frederic were on a road that led to a river (Hemingway 209) , when it began to rain again. Which led to a shooting between Germans (supposedly) and the men. The constant repetition of rain when death is present shows the metaphor that rain itself brings to the book. When rain comes, death follows. The novel ends with Frederic leaving the hospital after Catherine has died, it begins to rain. Since rain is shown at the end, maybe the author is leaving the reader of the thought of Frederic going downhill in the future. The presence of rain equates to the presence of death. This use of rain as a metaphor for death shows Hemingway s attitude through the relationship between Frederic and Catherine. There are many things that threaten these species like loss of habitat, lack of food, hunting and many more. Cheetahs are true carnivores which means they depend on meat for survival. They use high speed to easily hunt their prey. Primary diet of cheetah consists of springbok, ostriches, impala, deer, gazelles, warthogs, birds, hares, young zebras etc. These animals tend to target younglings because of the greater rate of success. In this section, I will examine the American culture in courtship and marriage from an etic perspective. As Crapo(2013) describes etic as etic models invariably describe cultures in ways that seem alien to its participants but facilitate comparisons between cultures and the discovery of universal principles in the structure and functioning of cultures (p.27). In the article Body Ritual among the Nacierema, Miner(1956) describes an aspect of the Nacierema culture from an etic perspective, allowing readers to realize the Nacierema are Americans. Why Is Mrs Dalloway Separated From Death In the story Mrs. Dalloway, the theme of death is extremely prevalent, but one character that is separate from that theme, essentially until the end of the book, Clarissa. Clarissa never faces death; despite, that she is living in a world that is so close to WWII. Why is Clarissa so separated from death in the story? Clarrisa lives her life isolated from the world of death; she goes on to her parties and other social events like they are the only important thing in the world. Then at the end of the book, during the part she has spent so much time and effort on, the only thing that the people are talking about is some random guy that killed himself. At first, it looks as if Clarissa is outraged at the idea that someone would do such a thing to ruin her party, but then something happens. Clarissa embraces the concept of death in a Poe esk manner, Death was defiance. Death was an attempt to communicate; people feeling the impossibility of reaching the center which, mystically, evaded them; closeness drew apart; rapture faded, one was alone. There was an embrace in death (Woolf 180). That seems strange, that someone how has been so far from death in the scope of the book would suddenly find such an embrace in it. It would not be necessary to use the device in the sunlight. All inventions failed, until Frank Shuman, an engineer from Pennsylvania finally made a breakthrough. He built an experimental plant that used black troughs covered in glass with a few inches of water. When exposed to the sun, the water got very hot, causing it to circulate and power an electric generator. His data was so convincing that he got financial backers and built the world s first solar electric power plant in Egypt. The Importance Of Guiding Young Children Guiding young children is an awesome responsibility that requires patience, understanding, flexibility, knowledge of child development and appropriate practices, intentional decision making, but most of all guiding young children requires kindness and love. Guidance involves discipline, not punishment. To begin our discussion on guidance let s first look at the difference between discipline and punishment. Discipline is used to teach and guide. Punishment is used for the purposes of controlling and retribution. (Godfrey, 2013) Guiding children does not mean taking punitive action when they fail to meet an expectation. Instead, guiding means to help children learn how to function suitably in a variety of social contexts. The goal is not to break a childs spirit, causing them to fear harsh punishment or judgement. The goal is to teach them how to regulate their emotions and actions, to develop control, so they can make safe, responsible decisions. An adult who practices punishment, controls a child externally. This communicates to a child that they are not able to control themselves, thus have no responsibility for their actions. Also, it can create in the child s mind, the idea that they can commit a behavior so long as they do not get caught or are willing to accept the consequences.
