Objectives of the Program:
1. To highlight the importance World Diabetes Day, 14
November 2019
2. To Raise awareness of diabetes by being a powerful voice to
improve education, access to quality care, quality of life,
prevention of complications and type 2 diabetes, and to help
end discrimination and stigma related to diabetes.
3. To have an understanding of the different types of diabetes
and their risk factors
4. To have knowledge of the symptoms of diabetes
5. To have an understanding as to how diabetes is diagnosed
6. Have an awareness of the complications diabetes can cause
and to recognise when to call for medical professionals

11. There were 69.1 million cases of diabetes in India in 2015 (8.7% of
adult population).
• 70% of premature deaths among adults are largely due
to behaviour initiated during adolescence.
• There are currently over 199 million women living with diabetes
and the total number is expected to increase to 313 million by
2040.
• Diabetes is the ninth leading cause of death in women globally
causing 2.1 million deaths per year.
• Two out of every five women with diabetes are of reproductive
age.
• 1 in 7 births is affected by gestational diabetes.
• Women are the gatekeepers of household nutrition and lifestyle
habits; therefore they have the potential to drive prevention from
the household and beyond.
