I attended the Beltway Poetry Slam which was held at the Busboys and Poets in Brookland NE.
During the poetry slam, I silently took notes in the back of the room and I made sure I was not
interrupting the scenery.
Before walking in, I didn t know what to expect. I choose to go to the Beltway Poetry Slam,
because I would have the opportunity to hear and feel the poets raw emotions. Before walking in, I
thought the poetry slam would have more of a competitive aspect.
There was very little competition and the poets didn t try to rebut or argue back. This experience
helped dispel some of my preconceived notions about how poetry slams work. I thought all poetry
slams are hyper competitive and but the poets who performed seemed as though they enjoyed being
on stage and they didn t seemed stressed.
During my time at Beltway Poetry Slam, I realized there were several common trends. All of the
poets were Black/African American and they brought up the negative problems pertaining to the

In June 1744, the Iroquois and representatives from Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania met in
Lancaster, Pennsylvania to resolve conflicts and negotiate on agreements. These meetings were

been a debate; did they rise over the past few years or did they actually decline? Contrary to some
doctors and politicians the numbers associated with teen pregnancy have decline over the last
couple of years. Although there are still people out there who believe this to be an issue it s
made more of an issue than it actually is. The ads and commercials are set out to scare teen agers
into believing that were at an all time high for this issue, but realistically its actually the exact
opposite. Teen pregnancy rates haven t dropped on there over the course of the years. There are
a few major factors that have contributed a great deal to this change. Those changes include but
are not limited to: more resources being available to these teenagers to prevent themselves from
becoming pregnant, society is more open to talking about this issue as well as the religion and

People say there are moments that will stick with you no matter how much time has passed. I
am positive this statement is true for the Billy Joel Concert that I attended at Wrigley Field in
Chicago on August 11th. The tickets were a gift given to me by my parents for my Birthday
back in January. They were hidden in a box with a stack of about 50 manilla envelopes which
my parents found very funny. I couldn t believe my eyes when I finally found the tickets, I had
never been to a concert before, unless you count seeing the Perry Choir and Band, so there was
much anticipation. The seats my parents and I had at Wrigley field were not great. The steps
were so high that it felt like we had climbed Mount Everest and the seats were so close together
that you couldn t move without elbowing your neighbor, but that didn t matter as Billy started to
play Miami 2017. The first notes that Billy played rocked my core and actually made my eyes
water not because Miami 2017 is a beautiful ballad but because it brought me into reality. It finally
hit me that I was in Chicago watching my favorite singer belting out lyrics I had listened to
hundreds of times live instead of just watching YouTube videos and listening to my Spotify playlist.
Billy Joeltruly lives up to his nickname The Entertainer even at 68. He was so much fun to watch.

In Australia and throughout other western countries, the misuse of alcohol by young people has
been highlighted as a problem (Toumbourou et al 2003).
Alcohol misuse amongst adolescents
For many Australians, alcohol consumption is a pleasurable part of everyday life (Parliament of
Victoria 2004). However in recent years there have been several reports highlighting that the
proportion of adolescents consuming alcohol and the amount of alcohol they are drinking is at
record levels (AIHW 2008; White and Hayman 2006; Shanahan and Hewitt 1999). The long and
short term sequelae associated with risky or high risk alcohol consumption include negative
physical, emotional and social consequences (NHMRC 2001). Immediate harms include accidents,
injuries, decreased scholastic and sporting performance, aggression, violence, assault, disrupted
family relationships, high risk sexual activity,drivingwhileundertheinfluenceofalcoholand
delinquent behaviour (Jones and Donovan 2001). Among young people aged 16 to 24 years,
alcohol related harm is one of the leading causes of disease
andinjuryburden(AIHW2006).Thesefindingsareconsistent with population based research in
Europe, United States and Canada (Jernigan 2001).

My Day On A Summer Day
It was around 7 in the morning on a summer day in July. When my mother awakened me with
extreme excitement in her voice. Get up were leaving in 2 hours, pack warm clothes and
everything you need to look fantastic. Trying to comprehend what she was saying to me i rolled
out of bed and trudged to the bathroom. The thought of what could possibly be going on kept

The antihero phenomenon in television is one that has proven to spark a successful movement,
confirming it has the potential for a large, loyal audience base. Aristotle and philosopher, David
Hume, have been proven wrong, stating their belief that the antihero model would never

The audience needs to be invested in the emotional fate of that character. A driving factor that is an
essential component in creating a successful antihero character is the possibility of redemption.
For Walter White, Don Draper, and Tony Soprano the realization of their self deception is the key
to the possibility of their redemption: Walter White believes everything he is doing is justified by
securing his family s financial future, Don Draper can t admit his stolen identity, and Tony
Soprano cannot be honest about the nature of his lifestyle. For each of these characters at a level
they understand their self deception but at the same time they can t stand to admit what they ve
become. However, the audience hopes one day they will admit what they ve become and they ll
redeem themselves. We have hope Walter White and Tony Soprano will eventually get out of their

The sun beat down on us. Sweat trickled down our necks.Grass marks stained our jerseys and
stuck to us like a wet shirt. I brushed my dark brown hair out of the way and looked at the game
clock, 47 seconds remained and we needed to win. The yellow crossbars glistened in the sun and
our goal, the end zone right below. One play was all that we needed. One pass into the end zone.
The score was 27 21. My team was aching, tired, and wore down. We were still gonna win and
nothing would stop us.
I called the play, Omaha! Omaha! The receivers scattered to different sides of the field. My
offensive linemen huddled in front of me and got into position. Two receivers on both sides and
