Violent Media Violence On Young Youth And Teenagers
How has violence in the mass media affect young youth and teenagers in their daily life in today s
society? Violence in the Mass Media is shaping young youth and teenager s brains in their early aged
of life, impacting their daily lives and delivering the wrong message. The media are sure the
messenger but not always it delivers a healthy a message. Violence in the mass media is leading young
youth and teenagers to think violence is acceptable, they commit crimes in society, and violence in the
mass media will result in emotional desensitization.
Firstly, Violence in the mass media leads young youths to think violence is acceptable to society by all
the violence in the cartoon they see. In the article Children and Media Violence it states, What mainly
distinguishes children s cartoon from adult s program is that animated characters are repeatedly
smashed, stabbed, run over, and pushed off high cliffs, but they do not stay dead for long (Wass).
When young youth sees this they think if they cause harm to other children it will be acceptable. They
see the violence in their favorite cartoon, they smashed others kills others and they are still alive.
Young youth may think if their favorite cartoon does harm and there is no consequently. They can
make the same and get the same results, but they are in a huge mistake. In real life if you smashed
someone they will be in critical status, if they kill someone they sure will be dead forever and will
have serious consequences.

Benefits And Limitations Of Renewable Energy Sources
In the world that we live, the prospects for renewable energy will increase in the European union as a
whole, and in the UK in particular, in the coming decades. Renewable energy sources are already
providing a significant proportion of the world s primary energy, and it is likely to be providing a
much greater proportion of the world s energy by the second half of the 21th century. The European
Union countries may do something to increase 20% of all energy from Renewable sources by 2020 to
the society. This essay will outline the benefits and limitations of two common renewable energy
sources, then, it will discuss how the topic suggestion is realistic in the UK context, and finally, what

John Twidel and Tony wair ,2005 in renewable energy resources points out that It has become one of
the fundamental principles for policy in the 21st century. The politicians, industrialists,
environmentalists, economists, and theologians, are affirmed in the world the principle as they seek
international, national, and local cooperation. However, reaching specific agreed policies and actions
is proving much tougher!
In the international context, the word progress relate to amendment in quality of life, including
improving standards of living in less developed countries. The aim of sustainable development is to
achieve this aim while safeguarding the ecological processes upon which life depends. Locally,
progressive businesses seek a positive treble under line, (a positive offering to the economic, social,
and environmental well being of the community). We know that many changes in social patterns are
related to energy supplies. We may expect further changes to occur as renewable energy systems
become even more widespread. The influence of modern science and technology ensures that there are
considerable improvements to older technologies, and subsequently standards of living can be
expected to rise, especially in rural and previously less developed

Hidden Talents and True Talents
Author Study TDA
David Lubar enjoyed reading as a child. From 2000 2005, David was featured in many short story
books. Not only has he written many books, he has worked for GameBoy and Atari, programming
multiple games. Hidden Talents is about a group of friends who discover their powers while saving
their school from other kids. It s sequel, True Talents, is about the same group of friends who use their
powers to defeat Bowdler, a very dangerous man. The two books have different characters, conflicts,
and settings, but the themes are similar.
Though the two books are about the same group of kids, the main characters change. In Hidden
Talents, the main character is Martin Anderson. Martin Anderson, meet Philip Grieg (page 14). Martin
met a great group of friends, and together, they discovered their powers while saving their school from
Bloodbath and his gang, In True Talents, the point of view changes to Eddie Trash Thalmayer. I was
about to run when one of the guys called out, You can t get away, Eddie (page 41). Eddie and his
friends have to work together to defeat Bowdler, a dangerous man who wants to use them to make
money. All in all, the two books have very different main characters and problems.
The one category where the two books are alike is the theme. One very fitting theme is friendship.

The Disadvantages Of Prenatal Testing For Children
Prenatal testing includes an array of tests that give women information about their baby s health and
well being. These tests have established a basis for early detection and treatment of common ailments
during a woman s pregnancy. The tests offer a broad spectrum of information to women about their
baby s state of being; however, they can be dangerous depending on the procedure. Though helpful yet
risky, prenatal testing comes with both advantages and disadvantages. Prenatal testing provides many
advantages to women and their babies. One major advantage is the ability to detect a vast variety of
diseases and disorders before the baby is even born. According to Prenatal Screening and Its Impact
on Persons with Disabilities, The most frequently given reason is that [doctors] are trying to prevent or
ameliorate medical or disabling conditions that are genetically based (Kaplan par.4). By having these
advanced tests, it allows doctors to research and garner information on how to prevent a possible
disorder or disease. As reported by LiveScience, the tests can detect genetic disorders and birth defects
such as down syndrome, Tay Sachs disease, sickle cell anemia, or cystic fibrosis (Nierneberg par.2).
These tests give the parents an advanced notice on some issues they could possibly deal with now or
at a later time. The tests can also determine the sex of the baby which is always thrilling for the
parents to be. Another advantage of prenatal testing is that some

Study of Milestone 3 s Mobile Phone Implementation Plan
Milestone 3: Mobile Phone Implementation Plan Technology or Business Practices For Milestone to
be successful with their mobile platform strategy their strength of integration needs to progress
beyond TCP/IP and encompass the emerging technologies and standards that will lead to tablets
becoming the dominant development platform of the future. At the center of these technologies are
secured enterprise access encryption and remote management support including device wide wipe and
replace security architectures (Gold, 2011). These technologies make it possible for Milestone to
manage each of their applications remotely and also completely erase the contents of a device if it is
lost or stolen. A second major design criterion is to create an effective Application Programmer
Interface (API) architecture that allows for any of the Milestone applications and associated resource
calls including database integrations to gain real time access speeds (Proffitt, 2011). The expectation
customers have for smartphone and tablet PC access today includes real time performance at a
minimum with periodic application updates not requiring reboot of the device required (The
Economist, 2011). This is the new normal when it comes to device performance and requires an
intensive level of integration within a given device in addition to database and system integration
requirements. Apple has been able to successful enterprise market for their iPhone and iPad Series of

Data Mining Method Of Extracting The Data From Large Database
Abstract Data mining is the method of extracting the data from large database. Various data mining
techniques are clustering, classification, association analysis, regression, summarization, time series
analysis and sequence analysis, etc. Clustering is one of the important tasks in mining and is said to be
unsupervised classification. Clustering is the techniques which is used to group similar objects or
processes. In this work four clustering algorithms (K Means, Farthest first, EM, Hierarchal) have been
analyzed to cluster the data and to find the outliers based on the number of clusters. Here the WEKA

Clustering plays an important role in data mining process. Clustering is the approach of grouping the
data into classes or clusters so that the objects within each cluster have high similarity in comparison
with one another[12].The common approach of clustering techniques is that to find cluster centroid
and then the data are clustered. Several clustering techniques are partitioning methods, hierarchical
methods, density based methods, grid based methods, model based methods and constraint based
clustering. Clustering is a challenging field of research in which its potential applications pose their
own requirements [4]. Clustering is also called as the data segmentation because clustering method
partitions the large data sets into smaller data groups according to their similarities. The main
objective of cluster analysis is to increase intra group similarity and inter group dissimilarity.
Detecting outlier is one of the important tasks. A failure to detect outliers or their ineffective handling
can have serious ramifications on the strength of the inferences drained from the exercise [4]. Outlier
detection has direct applications in a wide variety of domains such as mining for anomalies to detect
network intrusions, fraud detection in mobile phone industry and recently for detecting terrorism
related activities [5].Outliers are found using the filters which is offered by data mining tools. Liver

Pros And Cons Of Cosmetic Surgery
The Good and Bad of Cosmetic Surgery Cosmetic surgery has been in high demand since the late
1900 s among various people. The correct medical term for cosmetic surgery is aesthetic surgery. This
type of surgery is used to change a person s appearance for many different reasons. There are different
types of cosmetic surgeries that can be done depending on the situation. Cosmetic surgery is more of a
downfall than it is beneficial to people (ASAPS, paragraph 2). People the age of thirty five to fifty
years old, are more likely to have some form of cosmetic surgery. Of all cosmetic surgeries, 39.3
percent of patients were in this age group during 2016. There has been an 89 percent increase within a
five year duration. Research has shown that this huge increase could be to improve a person s dating
life or social acceptance. There are three main cosmetic surgeries that are in the highest demand. In
the year of 2016, liposuction, breast augmentation, and abdominoplasty were the most common
cosmetic procedures in the world. The majority of these procedures were done in the United States on
Caucasian individuals. No matter the ethnicity of an individual, cosmetic surgery gives one the option
to almost completely change their features. Like all surgery, cosmetic surgery has your common risk:
infection, scarring, and blood loss. Death, a word no one likes to hear is a possible risk but is not

The Rule Of The Republic
With the constitution of 1532 proclaiming Alessandro de Medici hereditary duke the Republic died,
and the Medici family once again rose from the ashes, ending the historical struggle between the
Medicean and Republican governments of the Florentine Renaissance. Duke Alessandro de Medici s
assassination in 1537 and widespread uncertainty surrounding his inexperienced and young successor,
Cosimo de Medici, momentarily rekindled hope for a return of the Republic. However, not only did
Cosimo thwart any hope for the return of the Republic, he went on to rule Florence for almost forty
years and erect a Grand Dukedom that lasted until the mid 18th century. Propaganda in the form of art
played a huge role in the consolidation of the Medici dukedom under Cosimo. The political nuances
evident in the visual representations commissioned at this time were vital in the manipulation of the
public, the establishment of the Medici as a ducal power and the subversion of Republican ideals. In
January 1537, Cosimo was declared the head of Florentine government, however, he was still far from
the powerful monarch that he is to become. Those who put Cosimo in power were members of
Florentine aristocratic families who planned to establish an oligarchical government, with the
adolescent Cosimo as mere a figurehead. Groups, exiled in 1532 following the reinstatement of the
Medici, assumed the position to seize Florence aided by the King of France. Simultaneously, troops

system, it causes metabolic syndromes. As researcher Leon mentions in their research, consumption of
HFCS is related to the metabolic syndrome, which includes a group of common diseases like obesity,
insulin resistance and hypertension (Leon et al. 105). A number of people who have metabolic

Exchange Traded Funds
Internationally, the flow of capital across national borders and into markets once believed to be
impregnable is occurring at the speed of light. Technological innovation, accessibility to international
market economies, and increased globalization has expanded the universe of securities available for
investments and more importantly portfolio diversification. The developments mentioned above
questions traditionally accepted principles by investors who believed that investing solely in U.S.
securities would result in a better risk return tradeoff. Prudent investors have known that diversifying
across industries and markets will lead to a given level of expected return at a significantly lower level
of risk, and vice versa. However, the advantages of such diversification are limited due to the same
cyclical economic fluctuations that all assets (or companies) in a particular country are exposed to.
The availability of a universe of assets internationally, and accessibility to these assets and the markets
where they trade has opened a plethora of opportunities to investors across borders who seek
diversification accompanied by return maximization and corresponding risk reduction through
international portfolio investments. Moreover, the limiting effects of economic cycles on assets in a
particular country can now be hedged through international portfolio formation and investing that
incorporates the advantage of cross country diversification in nations whose economic cycles

Cultural Differences In Two Kinds And Catch The Moon

the best for him. Culture wise the stories are opposite however on the side of theme they share many
similarities. Louis from Catch the Moon was trying to persevere on and move forward with life after
his mother died, on the other hand the daughter from Two Kinds was also trying to move on and do
different things and succeed, they aren t identical however they share similar qualities such as being
able to persevere through hard times. Each of their cultures also impacted the theme in the same way,

Theme Of Nature In Huck Finn
Life on the river for Huck and Jim is very peaceful. Jim built a snug wigwam to keep their belongings
dry, they could just lay looking up at the sky, and they good weather. Huck says, We catched fish and
talked, and we took a swim now and then to keep off sleepiness (Twain, 64). The river provided Huck
and Jim many things, not only food, but also a way to escape. For Huck, the river provided him an
escape from his life with his father and the Widow. For Jim, the river provided an escape from being a
slave. On the river they were both free from their past lives. Mark Twain, in The Adventures of
Huckleberry Finn, shows us how nature can offer an escape from society s restrictions and evils. Even
though nature has changed immensely since this book was written, it still provides an escape from
society. In today s world, nature can be utilized as a thinking place or as a place to recover from pain.
There are many more themes that we can see in today s society. Several themes of Huck Finn are still
relevant today, including Nature offers an escape from society s restrictions and evils, People tend to
act cruelly or irrationally in groups, and Discrimination causes pain and suffering for many people .

Invasion or external compression can cause an SVC blockage. One way external compression can
occur is by the involvement of lymph nodes. When cancer is present in the body, there is a chance that
it can spread to surrounding lymph nodes. If this occurs, the lymph nodes can enlarge and compress
the SVC and cause an obstruction. Other ways external compression can occur are by the right lung,
other mediastinal structures, or by thrombosis of blood within the vein itself. As blood flow becomes
blocked, the blood from the upper body is unable to drain back into the heart correctly. These
collaterals provide an alternate pathway so the blood can ultimately reach the right atrium. Collateral
veins can originate from the azygos vein, lateral thoracic, inter mammary, and esophageal venous
systems. Over a time period of several weeks, the alternate pathways begin to dilate which results in
venous pressure in the upper body to elevate. By the venous pressure remaining elevated, signs and
symptoms will become noticeable. How quickly the signs and symptoms manifest is dependent upon
how fast the SVC becomes congested in relation to the formation of venous collaterals. Research
states that Patients with malignant disease may develop symptoms of SVC syndrome within weeks to
months because rapid tumor growth does not allow adequate time to develop collateral flow. (Drews
and Rabkin) Out of all the signs and symptoms that can occur,

England s Influence On Normandy
Although England s monarchy has played a prominent role throughout its history, its very first
monarch was actually a conqueror from another land. King William began his journey in Normandy, a
region that is current day France. Sometime during the year of 1028, he was born in Falaise, France to
Arlette (also known as Herleva), a tanner s daughter, and Robert I, the Duke of Normandy. As an
illegitimate son of his father, he was known as William the Bastard among his enemies and critics. He
eventually rose to power through his conquest of England, and all throughout history his descendants
held the English throne. William the Conqueror married Matilda of Flanders as an assurance of an
alliance, and they had 4 sons, one of which died at an early age. William s son, Robert, would become

enraged Duke, England was already occupied fighting Tostig and another Harold, a Norwegian duke,
who wanted the throne as well. Nevertheless, King Harold was able to meet William s troops in a final
battle which would eventually be known as the Battle of Hastings. In September 1066, the Normans

Cyp61 Week 1 Lab Report
Introduction
Cytochrome P450s (CYPs) are present in all three domains of life and constitute a superfamily of
heme containing monooxygenases. CYPs are involved in the metabolism of endogenous and
xenobiotic compounds 1 4. CYPs belong to a variety of families with two global sub families, CYP51
and CYP61. CYP51 is involved in sterol biosynthesis and is reported as housekeeping CYP in fungi
and is an important target for the antifungal drugs 3, 5. CYP51s are found in sterol producing animals,
plants, protists, but rarely in bacteria, producing 14 α demethylated sterols 6. The CYP51 reaction
occurs in three steps, each reaction requires one molecule of oxygen and two NADPH derived
reducing equivalents 7 9. Another cytochrome P450 CYP61 (sterol 22 desaturase) represents an
ancient activity, as the superfamily is present as CYP710 in plants 10. Plant P450s are generally

Sterol C 22 desaturase plays an important role as terminal enzyme in the sterol biosynthesis in fungi
and plants. Fungal cytochrome P450 monooxygenase, CYP61, is the sterol C 22 desaturase, the
penultimate enzyme in the ergosterol biosynthetic pathway 14, 16. Erogosterol synthesis involves
lanosterol synthase needed for cyclization of 2,3 oxidosqalene and CYP61 for C 22 desaturation. In
case of plants, the first cyclization of 2,3 oxidosqalene is mediated by cycloartenol synthase and
CYP710 (a C 22 desaturase) for C 22 desaturation 11. Interestingly, Leishmania and Trypanosomes

Mapp v. Ohio and the Rest of Us Too
My research was conducted and compiled to present information on the Supreme Court case Mapp v.
Ohio. The Mapp v. Ohio case was brought before the Supreme court in the year 1961 and was and still
is considered a landmark supreme court case in dealing with Civil Liberties and criminal Procedure.
The case itself deals with the admissibility of illegally obtained evidence in criminal proceedings, but
I feel the case addressed a more deeply rooted problem. A problem where american ideals of freedom
and liberty are pitted against a changing social relationship with law enforcement, which I will discuss

The officers left Ms. Mapp s home leaving one officer behind and returned several hours later with
several more officers and again requested entry in to the home. The officers brandished a piece of
paper, supposedly as a search warrant then proceeded to break in the door to the home. When the
officers entered the home Ms. Mapp asked to see the warrant and as it was displayed took it from the
officers hands and placed in near her body and or in her dress, the accounts differ here. One of the
officers struggled with Mapp and eventually confiscated the paper from her. Subsequently Ms. Mapp
was handcuffed for being, according to the officers belligerent .
The raid on Ms. Mapp s home ended with the discovery that there was no suspect hiding there and
also the no illegal betting materials. The only things that were found were some pornographic
materials in the room of Ms. Mapp. Mapp was then arrested for the possession of pornographic
material, she was subsequently prosecuted, found guilty by the court and sentenced for the material.
During the trial the prosectors nor any other party were ever able to produce a search warrant. We later
find out the police never obtained a search warrant and Ms. Mapp sought to overturn her conviction
because the evidence used in her case was obtained during an illegal search and seizure. At this time
there was already established precedent that illegally obtained evidence was

The Current Patient Protection And Affordable Care Act (...
ABSRACT The healthcare system in the United States has been under fire for the last several years,
with the primary focus on radical reform of the fragile healthcare system. Legislators, the American
people and the media all have differing opinions on the direction of such a reform. The following is an
investigative review of the current Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), which is the
latest attempt at reform and the most ambitious healthcare reform in the history of the United States.

ObamaCare set into motion a the largest healthcare reform in history and the initiative was so broad
and wide ranged that the governing body could not anticipate potential problems because there were to
many entities involved. From public health initiatives, such as the implementation of the Prevention
and Public Health Fund (virtual marketplace), to those statues in the PPACA that aim to increase the
public s access to health insurance has suffered many bumps in the road (Gable, 2011). For instance,
in the initial extension of ObamaCare to the public, the individual interest and online requests was so
intense that the system failed and was unable to support such a high demand of consumer inquiry, let
alone enrollment. Most of the focus was spent on legislative law and not the actual accessibility and
delivery to the citizens. Critics of the PPACA do not waste time in pointing out that legislation does
not take a public health approach that targets the deficits evident in the American healthcare system or
challenge the decades long medicalization of health with a population based approach (Gable, 2011).
In short, the health initiatives are solely focused on the extension of health services

The Old Man And The Sea Essay
Ernest Hemingway is one of the greatest writing icons of the early to mid 20th century. Known mainly
for his success in writing the critically acclaimed novel, The Old Man and the Sea, Hemingway had
many symbolic meanings instituted throughout this novel and many other works. Many having the
theme of a hero confronting a natural force, as seen when Santiago confronts the mighty sea. Along
with the heroic themes, Hemingway had become a religious Catholic man growing up and decided to
include many religious references and biblical allusions. Since the beginning of his writing career, he
has been putting these allusions and important uses of the bible into his work. Critics of these works
such as, The Old Man and the Sea, have discovered and have been aware of these references and
parallels for some time. Some critics have always believed these biblical allusions to be just
coincidence or false. Evidence will be shown of these writings and analyzed to show how they
translate to not only to the book but also to Hemingway s life. Almost 20 years of Hemingway s life
was spent living in Cuba. He often visited Cojimar, which was the village that The Old Man and the
Sea took place in. Hemingway spent much time shark and marlin fishing while staying in Cuba. His
inspiration for writing his novel were the tireless fishermen that enduring so many obstacles and

Essay on Epic of Gilgamesh
Title: Gilgamesh Type: Epic Author: Anonymous Theme: The central idea of Gilgamesh was the greed
that he had to receive eternal life. Gilgamesh was a selfish person who was half god and half man and
wanted to keep his youth after seeing Enkidu die. Gilgamesh knew his destiny was not to receive
eternal life because he was half man. He decided to go against the odds to fight against not having
eternal life searching for the secret despite what the Gods told him. Exposition: The story dates
between 2500 1500 B.C. Gilgamesh ruled in Uruk, a city in ancient Mesopotamia. Protagonist: The
epic is centered on Gilgamesh because he is the main character and ruler of Uruk who in the
beginning is rude and arrogant and has a journey ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Crisis: Death is the crisis for Gilgamesh and the fact he is half man is preventing him from living
forever. He decides to ignore the advice given to the gods and goes on a quest to find the boatman
Utnapishtim for eternal life. Climax: Gilgamesh goes on his journey for everlasting life and find the
boat man Utnapishtim for everlasting life. First, Gilgamesh is challenged to stay awake for 6 days and
7 nights, but he fails at the task. Secondly, he tells Gilgamesh that a prickly plant has the answer for
his eternal life and if he is able to capture it he will hold in his hands the answer for his youth. As
Gilgamesh goes to cleanse him self, a serpent takes his plant and Gilgamesh is saddened because this
now means death is in his path. He decides to make plans to take the plant to the elderly men to renew
their youth which shows leadership as a king is suppose to be. Resolution or Denouement: In the
beginning of the epic Gilgamesh the people of Uruk saw Gilgamesh as a lousy, obnoxious, arrogant
ruler. After his journeys to find everlasting life his heart began to soften and see a different perspective
of life. It was revealed long after Gilgamesh s death that he was actually considered a god. This helps
explain his fear towards death. Gilgamesh wanted to physically be a great warrior until the end of time
opposed to just another historic memory. Although it was not actually death he was afraid of,

father was a colonel in the Confederate Army, and served Kentucky as a state legislator. His family
raised him Methodist, and his sister did his schooling in a one room schoolhouse. At the age of 10, his
father died and his mother left the farm to move to Louisville, Kentucky. They struggled with poverty
after that, and he eventually got into acting and filmmaking. He started off as an actor when his first
screenplay was rejected. However, he started working with a production company called Biograph,

When he tries to express his sexuality towards her, she brushes him off, which further enforces the
idea that the free blacks are over sexualized. The biggest sense of loyalty from Mammy we see is
when she tries to protect her master from union soldiers arresting him for being in the Ku Klux Klan.
Gus, the Union Solider, seems to be best associated with brute and coon tendencies, which is
characterized by his sexuality towards Flora. The union soldiers in general represent the brutal buck
character type because they are seen as violent, uncontrollable and sexualized in the film. Gus, also
has coon tendencies, however, in the way his character expresses himself. His eyes are very big and
full of expression, and seem to be laughed at a lot. He is used as comic relief in addition to his role as
an instigator to the Ku Klux Klan. When he comes onto Flora, he is overly sexual and aggressive
towards her. He seems to be out of control as soon as the interaction starts, and ends with a chasing
scene through the forest. This goes along with the Moonlight and Magnolia theme that white women
are the epitome of beauty, and how frail and delicate they seem. Silas Lynch is also depicted as overly
aggressive in his pursuit and proposal to Elsie Stoneman. This represents the fear of miscegenation, as
well as rape. The skewed view promotes the domination of women through portrayals of white
women and black soldiers. The Stoneman housekeeper, Lydia, is portrayed as a

Laurie Halse s Chains Quotes
In the book Chains by Laurie Halse, it talks about a girl named Isabel, who was born as a slave. Isabel
has faced many challenges in her life, ranging from her abusive witch like owner Madame Lockton, to
choosing whether to side with Great Britain or America. The old man Isabel calls grandfather, tells
her, Everything that stands between you and freedom is the River Jordan. When talking about about
the River Jordan, her grandfather means that Isabel must overcome her problems (the River Jordan) to
find freedom and escape from the brutality of being a slave. There are many things that get in the way
of Isabel on her quest to freedom, such as Madame Lockton, choosing sides, finding Ruth, and a
potential way Isabel can find freedom. Each ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Her problems could be interpreted as chains trapping and drowning her in her River Jordan. He
[Captain Campbell] couldn t take me. He would not. I was chained between two nations... I was a
ghost tied to the ground not a living soul. (182) This quote shows Isabel is stuck, not knowing what
side to favor. They used a simile comparing Isabel and the two nations to a ghost trapped in the
ground, with Isabel depicted as the ghost. It explained that Isabel is a like ghost trapped in the ground,
not with the British nor the Americans. The glowing iron streaked in front of my face like a comet...
The man pushed the hot metal against my cheek. It hissed and bubbled. Smoke curled under my nose.
They cooked me. (148) This passage clarifies when Isabel gets branded. This part of the story almost
broke Isabel s spirit to fight forward and for freedom. Not like her usual self, she followed orders
received from Madame and rarely thought about Ruth and her parents. I took a step up. Answer me,
you miserable cow. Did you sell my sister? ... She is only 5 years old. I rose another step. She is a
baby and you sold her away from me. (135) During this section of the story, this would be the first
time Isabel ever truly got mad at Madame, even enough to yell at her with a rude name. This is one of
the larger complications that add more water to Isabel s River Jordan. Ruth was Isabel s only family
left, and she sincerely did care for Ruth, but when Ruth got sold it put Isabel into despair. It was also
the cause of Isabel being branded. But Ruth did. She giggled, a sound like a small silver bell. A bell
tolling disaster. Madam Lockton... pointed her finger at us. Which one of you made that noise? Her
face flushed with rage her eyes darting back and forth between us. I did, ma am, I quickly lied...

Negative Effects Of Pesticide
Pesticide is a chemical widely used around the world for many different reasons. Being a highly toxic
chemical, pesticide has been found to be particularly harmful to children s health. Because children s
immune systems are not as developed as that of an adult, their susceptibility to developing health
issues from exposure to the toxic chemical is much greater. This is due to the fact that children s
bodies lack the enzyme that allows them to detoxify and deactivate the chemical from their bodies
(Ding and Bao, 2013). In turn, pesticide may have adverse effects on the physiological development of
young children. There are various ways in which children may be exposed to different pesticides. The
degree at which children are exposed to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Exposure to pesticide is one example of an improper condition for early child development. In some
cases, exposure to pesticide may impair lung functioning and respiratory health. Interested in this
phenomenon, Raan, Harley, Balmes, Bradman, Lipsett, and Eskenazi (2015) conducted a study to
analyze to effects of early life exposure to toxic chemical, specifically organophosphate pesticide, on
the respiratory system. In order to evaluate the repercussion of pesticide exposure, the researchers had
to conduct a longitudinal study on children from birth and reanalyzed them at age five and seven
through a questionnaire. From this, researchers were able to disclose that exposure to pesticide is
linked to higher risk of asthma and other breathing problems, for instance wheezing, coughing, and
shortness of breath (Raan, Harley, Balmes, Bradman, Lipsett, and Eskenazi, 2015). Children are more
susceptible to these toxic chemicals due to lung development during this age. With exposure to
pesticide, the lethal chemical makeup of pesticide may interfere with the lung s development, thus
leading to mutations or abnormalities. Furthermore, childhood is also a crucial period for brain
development and functioning. Any impairments to the brain at this age may cause lasting effects that
will extend into adolescence and adulthood. Therefore, excessive exposure to pesticide may disturb
the cognitive functioning of children

The Modern Police Force Of The United States
Research: Police Officers
The modern police force not only provided an organized, centralized body of men legally authorized
to use force to maintain order, it also provided the illusion that this order was being maintained under
the rule of law, not at the whim of those with economic power, argues Dr. Gary Potter, author of The
History of Policing in the United States, Part 2 published in 2013.
Police Officers wanted to maintain peace, low crimes, and violence throughout their communities.
Most importantly, they wanted to uphold safer living environments. Potter (2013) defines social
control as crime control and was accomplished by raising the specter of the dangerous classes. It was
said, the idea that policing should be directed toward bad individuals, rather than social and economic
conditions that are criminogenic in their social outcomes. Although policing had always been a
reactive enterprise, occurring only in response to a specific criminal act. Its centralized and
bureaucratic police departments also focused on the alleged crime producing qualities of the
dangerous classes which began to emphasize preventative crime control.
Although, crime fighting has taken its toll, consequently, the role of the police has become more
important than ever before, and there would be chaos in the society without police, according to
Maulin Joshi (N.D.), author of What are the Functions of the Police? In the same sense, police are

Semantic Differential Scale to Assess the Public Image of...
1. Introduction It is well known that human society cannot evolve or exist in the absence of a general
and a coherent structure. In this context, Police plays a central role, operating as a rule of law
institution. Thus, as the basic element of the criminal justice system, Police is responsible for
enforcing the law by democratic methods, primarily involving close cooperation with the public,
respect for individual rights and constitutional guarantees, and the resort to force in as little. Therefore,
in a society which has become increasingly more complex, the role of the police tends to be versatile,
so that the outcomes, or in other words, its effectiveness, ultimately depend on a wide range of factors.

The Semantic Differential Scale (SDS), introduced in behavioral sciences by Osgood and his
associates (Osgood, Suci Tannenbaum, 1957), is a very general technique of measurement, that has to
be adapted to each research context, depending on the goals and aims of the study (Verhagen Meents,
2007). The original form proposed by Osgood et. al (1957) was structured on three dimensions:
Evaluation, Potency and Activity, and has been confirmed by previous pan cultural studies (eg. Heise,
1970; Jakobovits, 1966; Osgood, May Miron, 1975, etc.). Evaluation relates to goodness or badness,
morality, utility, etc., Potency to magnitude, social power, strength, expansiveness, etc., whereas
Activity relates to speed, animation, spontaneity, etc. (Heise, 2010). Although it was frequently used
to measure attitudes (Osgood et al., 1957) or meaning of concepts (Doyle Bottomley, 2010; Mindak,
1961), SDS has proven useful in many areas, including in the assessment of organizational image (de
ex. Bonner George, 1988; Van Heerden Puth, 1995). In order to measure the meaning of the concept,
the semantic differentiator usually uses a five or seven points scale, based on a list of bipolar paired
terms, with opposite meaning. According to their disposition, attitude or image of the assessed
construct, for each contrasting pair respondents select a point on the interval. Each interval is

Position Paper on Stephen Covey
Position Paper on Stephen Covey s, Seven Habits of Highly Effective People
MG 401 Senior Seminar in Management Introduction In 1989, Stephen Covey s book The 7 Habits of
Highly Effective People started a landmark revolution in how we think about time and life
management. In this book, Covey presents seven principles for developing effectiveness in our private
and public lives. By developing these habits, one moves from being dependent on other people to
being and acting independently. Then we learn how to move to the more advanced state of
interdependence and successful Cooperation. As a part of the seven habits, Covey introduced
important and powerful techniques of time management under the habit of Put First Things First. ...

Argument Stephen Covey has much to say on the qualities of effective people. Covey s purpose in
detailing the seven habits is to help people improve themselves. The seven habits are woven into a
diagram that shows the working of all seven habits in communion. When viewing the diagram, one is
reminded of Benjamin Franklin s engraving of the snake which was divided into thirteen pieces, with
the caption Join or Die. Each of the seven habits is integral to viewing the picture as a whole, as well
as seeing the development from dependence to independence to interdependence. The first three
habits, which lead to independence, a private victory, lead to the final four steps, which include public
victory. My favorite quote of the book is It is nobler to give yourself completely to one individual than
to labor diligently for the salvation of the masses. (Page 201). My job places me in a position of
leadership over other leaders. Often I see these leaders locked into a limited vision when faced with a
difficult situation. They see only a win/lose or lose/lose scenario. I reflect back on this book frequently
and think about the book s section on win/win and seeing outside the box. The first habit talks about
being proactive; being proactive is the foundation of the entire seven habits paradigm. In a sense, all
the other habits are types of being proactive. This entails a realization that you are a person who

The Causes And Contributions Of The Human Genome Project
Human Genome Project A genome is the complete collection of an organism s genetic material. The
human genome is composed of about 20,000 to 25,000 genes located on the 23 pairs of chromosomes
in a human cell (Tortora, Funke, Case, 2016). According to the Human Genome Project (2000), A
single human chromosome may contain more than 250 million DNA base pairs, and it is estimated
that the entire human genome consists of about 3 billion base pairs. Now that we have identified what
a genome is, we will now examine the Human Genome Project. The Human Genome Project (HGP) is
a project that began in October of 1990 (Tortora, Funke, Case, 2016). The HGP lasted for 13 years, so
the end of the project was in 2003. Mapping the entire human DNA sequence was the main purpose of
the program (Tortora, Funke, Case, 2016). Associating specific human traits and inborn diseases with
genes at exact locations on the chromosomes was the goal of genomic mapping and sequencing (HGP,
2000). Figure 1 below shows the timeline through which the Human Genome Project got completed.
In 1990, the project commenced along with the Ethical, legal and social implication program (ELSI).
Fast forwarding to 1995, where the human physical mapping goal was achieved. Then in 1999, the
sequence of the first human chromosome was completed. Finally, in 2003, the project was completed.

An Example Of Western Culture In The Baroque Period In Italy
A perfect example of western art that depicts the drama and theatre during the periodization of 17th
century Italian Baroque, is the piece titled Susanna and the Elders by Artemisia Gentileschi. In this
painting, there is a woman taking a bath, however, behind her are two men who appear to be causing
trouble. The biblical story has it that while Susanna was bathing, two judges cornered her offered her a
bargain. The malicious men said that either she was to sleep with them, or they would tell the people
that she had been seen with another man as a threat. Rather than being stoned, Susanna was preserved
and the two men were punished for their actions. The Baroque period in Italy had many key historical
events and heavily influenced the visual culture. Italian culture during the Baroque period was
significant because it had many key kinds of art, monuments and other visuals that represented this
time period. During the 17th century, the Baroque consisted of a strong annunciation surrounding
drama, theatre, and reformation. Figures were often displayed as if they were at a performance. Each
painting was detailed and depicted a dramatic scene that told an elaborate story. It was common for a
woman to be portrayed naked and freely as this was something that occurred often. This era also
included an abundance of lights and darks that were juxtaposed to evoke feelings from the audience.
Non western art was equally as exceptional as each countries art had a significant way of
incorporating their culture into each piece. Li K an s 14th century ink on paper painting titled Bamboo
displays the beauty within a single form of art, ink. Although simplistic, the ink has been manipulated
into fine lines that show the foliage of the leaves on the background. This intricate calligraphy work
enhances the piece and allows the artwork to reflect peace and delicacy. Unlike work from the 17th
century Italian Baroque, the Chinese culture does not depict naked women but rather aims towards the
ideals of nature.
In China, the artwork was important as it enhanced the key events that were occurring during this time
period in Chinese culture. As control was being taken from the Ming emperors due to the government
growing corrupt,

Boccaccio’s The Decameron Essay
The Decameron, by Boccaccio, is a frame story written in the mid fourteenth century. There are a
hundred stories told over a span of ten days. On the second day, a man tells a story about a princess,
Alatiel, who was sent away to marry a king. Before Alatiel reaches her destination, she has sexual
experiences with a lot of different men. Alatiel is treated like an object and allows this objectification
to happen because she is so fickle and does nothing to stop the men. The fickleness of Alatiel and the
treatment of her as an object is evident throughout the story.
The story starts off portraying Alatiel as an object when her father, the sultan of Babylon, promises her
hand to the king of Algarve (48). Alatiel has no say in who she ... Show more content on

Pericone amp;#8217;s house. Pericone falls in love with her and wants to sleep with her. Alatiel tells
her servants that amp;#8220;she herself had decided never to let anyone but her husband enjoy her ;
(50). Pericone gets Alatiel drunk and into bed with him. Alatiel amp;#8217;s values aren amp;#8217;t
so strong because Pericone gets her to sleep with him. After she loses her virginity amp;#8220;she
often invited herself not with words amp;#8230;but with actions ; to Pericone (51). When Alatiel is
taken from Pericone by Marato, she weeps but is soon comforted amp;#8220;with the assistance of the
holy Stiff in hand God gave to man ;(52). It doesn amp;#8217;t take much to comfort Alatiel. In the
beginning of the story she doesn amp;#8217;t want to sleep with a man that is not her husband. By the
first man Alatiel encounters her views on sex have changed. Alatiel amp;#8217;s adventures do not
stop after two men. When Marato loses Alatiel the prince of Morea gets her. It doesn amp;#8217;t take
Alatiel long to get over Marato.
Costanzo eventually gets Alatiel. He too comforts

Clustering plays an important role in data mining process. Clustering is the approach of grouping the data into classes or clusters so that the objects within each cluster have high similarity in comparison with one another[12].The common approach of clustering techniques is that to find cluster centroid and then the data are clustered. Several clustering techniques are partitioning methods, hierarchical methods, density based methods, grid based methods, model based methods and constraint based clustering. Clustering is a challenging field of research in which its potential applications pose their own requirements [4]. Clustering is also called as the data segmentation because clustering method partitions the large data sets into smaller data groups according to their similarities. The main objective of cluster analysis is to increase intra group similarity and inter group dissimilarity. Detecting outlier is one of the important tasks. A failure to detect outliers or their ineffective handling can have serious ramifications on the strength of the inferences drained from the exercise [4]. Outlier detection has direct applications in a wide variety of domains such as mining for anomalies to detect network intrusions, fraud detection in mobile phone industry and recently for detecting terrorism related activities [5].Outliers are found using the filters which is offered by data mining tools. The Rule Of The Republic With the constitution of 1532 proclaiming Alessandro de Medici hereditary duke the Republic died, and the Medici family once again rose from the ashes, ending the historical struggle between the Medicean and Republican governments of the Florentine Renaissance. Duke Alessandro de Medici s assassination in 1537 and widespread uncertainty surrounding his inexperienced and young successor, Cosimo de Medici, momentarily rekindled hope for a return of the Republic. However, not only did Cosimo thwart any hope for the return of the Republic, he went on to rule Florence for almost forty years and erect a Grand Dukedom that lasted until the mid 18th century. Propaganda in the form of art played a huge role in the consolidation of the Medici dukedom under Cosimo. The political nuances evident in the visual representations commissioned at this time were vital in the manipulation of the public, the establishment of the Medici as a ducal power and the subversion of Republican ideals. In January 1537, Cosimo was declared the head of Florentine government, however, he was still far from the powerful monarch that he is to become. Those who put Cosimo in power were members of Florentine aristocratic families who planned to establish an oligarchical government, with the adolescent Cosimo as mere a figurehead. One way external compression can occur is by the involvement of lymph nodes. When cancer is present in the body, there is a chance that it can spread to surrounding lymph nodes. If this occurs, the lymph nodes can enlarge and compress the SVC and cause an obstruction. Other ways external compression can occur are by the right lung, other mediastinal structures, or by thrombosis of blood within the vein itself. As blood flow becomes blocked, the blood from the upper body is unable to drain back into the heart correctly. These collaterals provide an alternate pathway so the blood can ultimately reach the right atrium. Collateral veins can originate from the azygos vein, lateral thoracic, inter mammary, and esophageal venous systems. Over a time period of several weeks, the alternate pathways begin to dilate which results in venous pressure in the upper body to elevate. By the venous pressure remaining elevated, signs and symptoms will become noticeable. How quickly the signs and symptoms manifest is dependent upon how fast the SVC becomes congested in relation to the formation of venous collaterals. The biggest sense of loyalty from Mammy we see is when she tries to protect her master from union soldiers arresting him for being in the Ku Klux Klan. Gus, the Union Solider, seems to be best associated with brute and coon tendencies, which is characterized by his sexuality towards Flora. The union soldiers in general represent the brutal buck character type because they are seen as violent, uncontrollable and sexualized in the film. Gus, also has coon tendencies, however, in the way his character expresses himself. His eyes are very big and full of expression, and seem to be laughed at a lot. Silas Lynch is also depicted as overly aggressive in his pursuit and proposal to Elsie Stoneman. This represents the fear of miscegenation, as well as rape. They used a simile comparing Isabel and the two nations to a ghost trapped in the ground, with Isabel depicted as the ghost. It explained that Isabel is a like ghost trapped in the ground, not with the British nor the Americans. The glowing iron streaked in front of my face like a comet... This is one of the larger complications that add more water to Isabel s River Jordan. Being a highly toxic chemical, pesticide has been found to be particularly harmful to children s health. Because children s immune systems are not as developed as that of an adult, their susceptibility to developing health issues from exposure to the toxic chemical is much greater. This is due to the fact that children s bodies lack the enzyme that allows them to detoxify and deactivate the chemical from their bodies (Ding and Bao, 2013). In turn, pesticide may have adverse effects on the physiological development of young children. There are various ways in which children may be exposed to different pesticides. In some cases, exposure to pesticide may impair lung functioning and respiratory health. Interested in this phenomenon, Raan, Harley, Balmes, Bradman, Lipsett, and Eskenazi (2015) conducted a study to analyze to effects of early life exposure to toxic chemical, specifically organophosphate pesticide, on the respiratory system. In order to evaluate the repercussion of pesticide exposure, the researchers had to conduct a longitudinal study on children from birth and reanalyzed them at age five and seven through a questionnaire. From this, researchers were able to disclose that exposure to pesticide is linked to higher risk of asthma and other breathing problems, for instance wheezing, coughing, and shortness of breath (Raan, Harley, Balmes, Bradman, Lipsett, and Eskenazi, 2015). Children are more susceptible to these toxic chemicals due to lung development during this age. With exposure to pesticide, the lethal chemical makeup of pesticide may interfere with the lung s development, thus leading to mutations or abnormalities. Furthermore, childhood is also a crucial period for brain development and functioning. Any impairments to the brain at this age may cause lasting effects that will extend into adolescence and adulthood. The Modern Police Force Of The United States Research: Police Officers The modern police force not only provided an organized, centralized body of men legally authorized to use force to maintain order, it also provided the illusion that this order was being maintained under the rule of law, not at the whim of those with economic power, argues Dr. Gary Potter, author of The History of Policing in the United States, Part 2 published in 2013. Police Officers wanted to maintain peace, low crimes, and violence throughout their communities. Most importantly, they wanted to uphold safer living environments. Potter (2013) defines social control as crime control and was accomplished by raising the specter of the dangerous classes. It was said, the idea that policing should be directed toward bad individuals, rather than social and economic conditions that are criminogenic in their social outcomes. The Semantic Differential Scale (SDS), introduced in behavioral sciences by Osgood and his associates (Osgood, Suci Tannenbaum, 1957), is a very general technique of measurement, that has to be adapted to each research context, depending on the goals and aims of the study (Verhagen Meents, 2007). The original form proposed by Osgood et. al (1957) was structured on three dimensions: Evaluation, Potency and Activity, and has been confirmed by previous pan cultural studies (eg. Heise, 1970; Jakobovits, 1966; Osgood, May Miron, 1975, etc.). Evaluation relates to goodness or badness, morality, utility, etc., Potency to magnitude, social power, strength, expansiveness, etc., whereas Activity relates to speed, animation, spontaneity, etc. (Heise, 2010). Although it was frequently used to measure attitudes (Osgood et al., 1957) or meaning of concepts (Doyle Bottomley, 2010; Mindak, 1961), SDS has proven useful in many areas, including in the assessment of organizational image (de ex. Bonner George, 1988; Van Heerden Puth, 1995). In order to measure the meaning of the concept, the semantic differentiator usually uses a five or seven points scale, based on a list of bipolar paired terms, with opposite meaning. In this book, Covey presents seven principles for developing effectiveness in our private and public lives. By developing these habits, one moves from being dependent on other people to being and acting independently. Argument Stephen Covey has much to say on the qualities of effective people. Covey s purpose in detailing the seven habits is to help people improve themselves. The seven habits are woven into a diagram that shows the working of all seven habits in communion. When viewing the diagram, one is reminded of Benjamin Franklin s engraving of the snake which was divided into thirteen pieces, with the caption Join or Die. Each of the seven habits is integral to viewing the picture as a whole, as well as seeing the development from dependence to independence to interdependence. The first three habits, which lead to independence, a private victory, lead to the final four steps, which include public victory. My favorite quote of the book is It is nobler to give yourself completely to one individual than to labor diligently for the salvation of the masses. (Page 201). They see only a win/lose or lose/lose scenario. I reflect back on this book frequently and think about the book s section on win/win and seeing outside the box. The human genome is composed of about 20,000 to 25,000 genes located on the 23 pairs of chromosomes in a human cell (Tortora, Funke, Case, 2016). According to the Human Genome Project (2000), A single human chromosome may contain more than 250 million DNA base pairs, and it is estimated that the entire human genome consists of about 3 billion base pairs. Now that we have identified what a genome is, we will now examine the Human Genome Project. The Human Genome Project (HGP) is a project that began in October of 1990 (Tortora, Funke, Case, 2016). The HGP lasted for 13 years, so the end of the project was in 2003. Mapping the entire human DNA sequence was the main purpose of the program (Tortora, Funke, Case, 2016). Associating specific human traits and inborn diseases with genes at exact locations on the chromosomes was the goal of genomic mapping and sequencing (HGP, 2000). Figure 1 below shows the timeline through which the Human Genome Project got completed. In 1990, the project commenced along with the Ethical, legal and social implication program (ELSI). • 41. An Example Of Western Culture In The Baroque Period In Italy A perfect example of western art that depicts the drama and theatre during the periodization of 17th century Italian Baroque, is the piece titled Susanna and the Elders by Artemisia Gentileschi. In this painting, there is a woman taking a bath, however, behind her are two men who appear to be causing trouble. The biblical story has it that while Susanna was bathing, two judges cornered her offered her a bargain. The malicious men said that either she was to sleep with them, or they would tell the people that she had been seen with another man as a threat. Rather than being stoned, Susanna was preserved and the two men were punished for their actions. The Baroque period in Italy had many key historical events and heavily influenced the visual culture. Italian culture during the Baroque period was significant because it had many key kinds of art, monuments and other visuals that represented this time period. During the 17th century, the Baroque consisted of a strong annunciation surrounding drama, theatre, and reformation. Figures were often displayed as if they were at a performance. Each painting was detailed and depicted a dramatic scene that told an elaborate story. It was common for a woman to be portrayed naked and freely as this was something that occurred often. This era also included an abundance of lights and darks that were juxtaposed to evoke feelings from the audience. Non western art was equally as exceptional as each countries art had a significant way of incorporating their culture into each piece. Li K an s 14th century ink on paper painting titled Bamboo displays the beauty within a single form of art, ink. Although simplistic, the ink has been manipulated into fine lines that show the foliage of the leaves on the background. This intricate calligraphy work enhances the piece and allows the artwork to reflect peace and delicacy. Unlike work from the 17th century Italian Baroque, the Chinese culture does not depict naked women but rather aims towards the ideals of nature. In China, the artwork was important as it enhanced the key events that were occurring during this time period in Chinese culture.
