THE BROKEN PROMISE OF RECONSTRUCTION amp;
THE NEED FOR RESTITUTION
The Civil War is the most widely written about event in American history and Reconstruction is the
most mis understood and least appreciated subject within this wider issue. Most people would prefer
to escape into the heroic exploits of the battles that were fought than deal with the difficult social
problems that the former enslaved population had to deal with.
I am offering this essay since I believe that the African Americans have been done a great disservice
by the Nation. As a people they were forcibly brought to this land, they were ... Show more content on

After twenty years, ordinances legitimizing enslavement were commonplace in almost every colony
and the practice had morphed into bondage for life, or more properly, chattel slavery.5 These practices
were immoral; they had no place in a respectable society.
The pernicious tendency to view the Africans through the white supremacist lens quickly became
dominant and was a concomitant of this chattel slavery. This was punctuated by the knowledge that
Europeans were never enslaved while most enslaved people were Africans.6 The skin color of the
enslaved became a facile marker that fit in well with the culturally supremacist view of the European
colonists. IMPORTATION
In this section I try to show how the African Slave System, after gaining a foothold went on to become
the most important part of the economy of the new Nation:
As the profitability of the colonists agricultural enterprises quickly rose, it was essential to procure a
sufficient number of workers since labor shortages were a constant headache.7 Enslavement of the
Indigenous Peoples had become steadily more problematic and by the 1750 s this practice had ceased
altogether.8 European workers were both expensive and tended to leave their employers to start
plantations of their own, or to return home. Therefore, a more reliable source of economically viable
labor became a necessity, and that baleful need coincided with the rise of the Trans Atlantic Slave
Trade from Africa.

Social Media Interaction Effects on Relationships Social media have become integrated deeply in

Essay on Two Months
Two Months Personal Narrative The day my sister left for England, something inside of me woke up.
It felt like the desert sand being surprised by cool wet rain, my amazement and surprise was just the
same. The reality that this was really happening, we really were being separated, all became too much
for me. As close as two siblings could be, it is often difficult to distinguish between Georgie and I.
One wonders, where does Georgie start, and where do I begin? Who developed the sarcastic wit, and
who picked it up as the years went by? My life is so extraordinary linked to this woman. She is
vibrant, she is intelligent. She is beauty that is discovered in the rarest of places, she is the lyrics in
that sad song. She is the stars that I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the departure gate I tried to tell her just how much she meant to me, but I never did quite manage to
find the right words. There was spluttering, hugging, pleading and kissing. Her boyfriend of four
months, sobbing like a little boy, begging her not to go. My mother looking sordidly normal, making
us all wonder why she was not wrought with despair. My grandpa shaking his head at the way the
young lovers said goodbye, and my father beaming with pride that his daughter was taking on such a
challenge. And then there was me, baffled and unable to speak, gagging on tears and clinging to her
side. All too suddenly she walked into the line of assorted passengers, blending well with the crowd. I
remember being amazed that she could stand there with such certainty, being willing to take the step
onto the massive super white plane. After I felt sure she would not look back, she shot a glance my
way, and I think it was then that I understood her. This was her life, and her chance to be free. This
challenge was a mountain that no mountaineer would easily climb, and here she was, climbing so
faithfully, her support network soon to be a million miles from her. Each step took her closer to the
top, all the while dragging her further and further away. Later that night, at around eleven pm, I stared

Rappaccini’s Daughter by Nathaniel Hawthorne
Two boys stare at an unfamiliar girl sitting by herself and whisper, She must be new, to each other.
They walk over to her, wanting to know about her, and ask her where she is from. The human
tendency of wanting to know about the unknown is an idea writers such as Nathaniel Hawthorne use
in their works. Hawthorne uses the style of Romanticism, which was most prominent during the early
nineteenth century and includes specific traits such as devotion to nature, feelings of passion, and the
lure of the exotic. It also emphasizes traits including the idea of solitary life rather than life in society,
the reliance on the imagination, and the appreciation of spontaneity. Rappaccini s Daughter by
Hawthorne is about Doctor Rappaccini s garden ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In summary, the lure of the exotic which Giovanni feels towards Beatrice and the flowers asserts that
Rappaccini s Daughter is Romantic. The idea of solitary life rather than life in society is a theme
interlaced throughout the short story. Early in the tale, Hawthorne writes, [Giovanni] seated himself
near the window, but within the shadow thrown by the depth of the wall, so that he could look down
into the garden with little risk of being discovered. Giovanni, wanting to be secluded, hid from view,
and this adds to the solitary life theme. Furthermore, the author writes, the desert of humanity around
them ... [pressed] this insulated pair closer together, to describe Giovanni and Beatrice find kinship
(Hawthorne). Near the end of the narrative, both Giovanni and Beatrice become infused with poison.
They are not able to live a normal life or be around society because their poison will injure or kill
others. Beatrice even says that the poison had, estranged [her] from all society of [her] kind
(Hawthorne). Therefore, solitary life, a concurrent theme and Romantic trait is existent in Rappaccini
s Daughter.
Hawthorne s story demonstrates an appreciation and idolization of nature. The author compares
Beatrice to flowers:
Soon there emerged from under a sculptured portal the figure of a young girl, arrayed with as much
richness of taste as the most splendid of the flowers,

Losing Teeth Research Paper
However, there are also children who are afraid of their teeth coming out and they might think that it
is painful and really uncomfortable. In this case, it is very important for parents to know when do kids
start losing teeth as well as the important do s that a parent should do for their little totes.
Parent s to do list
As a parent, it is very important to support your child every step of the way. Mothers and fathers alike
find great pleasure when they witness the different milestones in their children s life, and one of these
many milestones is losing their baby teeth to make way for the permanent ones.
Most children are fearful at the thought of losing their baby teeth because it will not only alter their

Your child may become shy of going out in the public with one or two teeth missing. However, it is
important for him to develop his social skills during that particular stage to assure that he will be able
to deal with different crowds as he grow older. You can bring him to different places for fun and
exposure.
When do kids start losing teeth?
When do kids start losing teeth? The answer to this one particular question may vary from child to
another depending on how they have grown their first baby tooth as well.
Normally, most kids start to lose their primary teeth when they hit the age between kindergarten and
first grade. The average age is between 5 to seven years old. However, do not stress yourself out if it
starts to wobble at the age of 4 or has not yet fall out by the age of 8. There are some children whose
teeth start to wobble months after their 4th birthday, and there are also children who do not lose their
tooth even after they hit their 8th birthday. These are still normal, so to speak. Generally, the younger
your child is when his first teeth came in, the earlier that they will fall out

Coastal Resilience
The definition of coastal resilience is when a community builds a plan to be able to bounce back after
hazardous events such as flooding, hurricanes, and coastal storms. Resilience is the ability to prevent
short term events from turning into long term community disasters. In the Hampton roads area we
have experienced recurring coastal flooding, in 2013 the government said they were joining as leaders
to address these issues, but yet we still are not prepared to handle these hazardous events. There was a
debate that was trying to figure out if these climate changes are manmade, I personally do not think
that they are, I believe that the world is changing everyday and considering that we are surrounded by
water, our circumstances are inevitable.

Andy Warhol s Influence On Our Culture
Have you ever wondered how pop art has influenced our culture? Well this paper will spread light on
just how influential Andy Warhol and his artwork has been. Pop art emerged in the late 1950s in the
United States (Artspace editors 2013). It was something that engaged aspects of mass culture such as
advertising, comic books, and clothing. Andy Warhol was the father of pop art; he has not only
influenced what we wear and see, but he has influenced the art world as well. There are many forms of
pop art but one thing they all have in common is the interest in mass media, and mass culture
(McCorquodale, 2015). Andy Warhol was born on August 6, 1928 in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. When
he was at the age of 8 he contracted chorea (Brown, 2015). A Disease that causes involuntary,
unpredictable body movements, so Warhol was confined to bed. During his recovery he was taught to
draw by his mother (Brown, 2015). He developed a love for drawing, and he started to draw in his
spare time. As soon as he got healthy he decided to take up photography. He went on to graduate high
school and enroll in Carnegie Institute of Technology where he studied commercial art (Brown, 2015).
Soon after in 1961 Warhol revealed the concept of pop art. He showcased an art peace that focused on
mass produced commercial goods. It was an art ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

spend 17 billion each year on advertisements (Skricki Schlachtmeyer, 2013). It s a huge industry that

Such as poster boards of an iconic symbols such as an Apple logo or a Coca Cola can. We see a lot of

Histrionics In Shakespeare
This is the concluding post in a series marking Shakespeare s 400th death anniversary, which started
with noteworthy screen adaptations of some of his important tragedies (To Weep Or Not To Weep...
Part I and Part II) and comedies (All The World s A Laugh... Part I and Part II). Here we will look at
some screen interpretations of the Bard s chief historical histrionics.
As per experts, Shakespeare s historical plays consists of ten works: King John, Richard II, Henry IV
Part I and Part II, Henry V, Henry VI Part I, II and III, Richard III and Henry VIII. Though he did not
write them in the above order, the sequence is chronological in that it covers the rein of seven English
Kings spread over four centuries (twelfth to the sixteenth century). ... Show more content on

The theme of the film is betrayal and the story is an amalgamation of Shakespeare s plays: Henry IV
Part 1 and Part 2, Henry V, Richard II, as well as The Merry Wives of Windsor. Welles considered the
film his best work and his favourite film.
One of the most interesting interpretations is Theatre of Blood (1973), a horror comedy by Douglas
Hickox. It stars Vincent Price as an actor who considers himself as the finest Shakespearean actor ever
but when he is not awarded the critic s choice for best actor he decides to revenge his humiliation. He
decides to kill the reviewer who gave him low ratings by basing each of the murder on a classic
Shakespearean death scene. For instance he executes a critic using hair curlers while narrating a scene
from Henry VI, Part 1 where Joan of Arc is ordered to be burnt.
My Own Private Idaho (1991) by Gus Van Sant is loosely based on Henry IV Part 1 Part 2 as well as
Henry V. It is the story of two friends, played by River Phoenix and Keanu Reeves, who are gay
prostitutes. Phoenix received several awards for his performance, including at the Venice

The Life Of James Madison Essay
The Life of James Madison

3rd Period Abstract In my paper I will state and explain the least known aspects of James Madison.
James Madison contributed to some of the most simple and complex events that have not been
recognized. For his job well done, I am willing to make those aspects known. The Life of James
Madison James Madison, also known as The Father on the Constitution , contributed to quite a few
intellectual events in the United States. Madison was an intelligent man with bright ideas that helped
this country become the one it is today. With all his appearances to debates, committee meetings, and
being elected in conventions, he was able to present us the federal government we have today and
some of our basic rights. James Madison s life and times, before, during, and after presidency is now
becoming more well known and interpreted. James Madison was born on March 16, 1751, in Port
Conway, Virginia, to Colonel James Madison Sr. and Eleanor Rose Conway. Madison and his siblings
grew up into the Christian religion since his family was very religious. James had eleven other siblings
and was the oldest out of them all. All his siblings were outgoing and playful, but James was the most
fragile out of all his siblings due to Epileptoid Hysteria. Epileptiod Hysteria is a sickness that causes

Behind us, we hear explosion after explosion. I glance behind me. Guys look, I say barely able to get

now replaced by burning balls of fire. Grass and trees now blackened. We didn t see a single other
person or building. Once busy streets were now void of activity. We could see where our school was
supposed to be, it was gone. For a moment we mourned together, knowing if it had not been for the
sickness that overtook our house, we would have been at school, and we would be dead. I wonder if I
would ever see my parents again. Come on, Aleric said as he pulls Mannix and me into the woods. I

Compare And Contrast The American Musical Theatre In The...
Compare and contrast the American musical theatre in the 1920s with that of the 1930s. How did each
reflect and absorb its era? What forms styles were dominant, what was the same, what was different
and why? Do we see elements from these decades in shows today? Use examples from specific
musicals. In the 1920 s, musical theater was roaring just like the economic situation in the United
States. Florenz Ziegfeld was at his peak, buying shows and catapulting them to the forefront of pop
culture. The most popular songs on the radio were songs that were written and performed in broadway
shows. The subway station had just opened in times square and people came rushing to the theaters.
Rag time was the popular genre at the time and Jazz musicians were working on their own genre just
blocks away. Prohibition caused the rise of the speakeasy and as a result, people of different social
classes were interacting. People were looking for entertainment that matched the change in people s
sensibilities. During this period, musicals (which were labeled musical comedies at the time) were in
the form of acceptable of guilty pleasures the appeal of women and their sexuality, silly characters that
made fools of themselves, or the goofy country girl dancing through the chores of the day. Ziegfeld s
Follies, Marx brother shows, and Al Jolson playing his character in blackface are great examples of
these shows that focused on showing off the stars and gave little care to the

Yet current WTO rules on subsidies, foreign investment, and patents preclude some of the policy
choices made, for example, by South Korea and Taiwan in the past, when rules under the WTO s
predecessor, the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade, were more permissive. What is more, new
WTO members typically confront demands to conform their trade and industrial policies to standards
that go well beyond existing WTO agreements. The new Basle II international banking standards,
better fitted to banks in industrialized nations, risk making it more difficult for banks in developing
countries to compete.
There are signs of change in the rich world s attitude. Some donors, notably the United Kingdom and
the United States, the latter with its Millennium Challenge Account, are moving away from attaching
explicit, heavy conditions to their grants and loans and are instead screening applicants early to ensure
that assistance will be reasonably well spent. The World Bank and other organizations are designing
programs with countries in which resources are disbursed not in exchange for policy reform but on the
basis of pre agreed benchmarks of progress be it reduced inflation, more children finishing primary
school, or more completed external audits of government accounts. These changes deserve to be
reinforced.
Developed nations can also take positive steps to directly benefit developing countries specifically, by
taking action

Nature In The Good Earth
Nature is visible in the earth, rain, and harvests of Wang Lung s hometown in China, which is
represented in the title, The Good Earth. Pearl S. Buck s novel discusses the life of an agrarian
Chinese man, Wang Lung, and his deep connection to the Earth. As the plot unfolds, Wang Lung
slowly gained much wealth that originated from the land. The earth, or the soil, brought riches and a
higher class to Wang. This is what he had valued the most since the beginning of the novel. He wanted
to have a successful harvest and gain money from his crops, and therefore become a member of a
wealthy family similar to the House of Hwang he had been admiring in his town. The rain determined

In the first chapters of the novel, Wang Lung states that the soil provides all things necessary for him
to live. Pearl S. Buck demonstrated Wang Lung s need for the land too, by stating this earth which
formed their home and fed their bodies and made their god (Buck, 22). Shortly after, he got married to
O lan, a servant from the House of Hwang. After noticing the House of Hwang was selling their land,
as previously stated, he chose to intervene. Wang Lung bought a little piece of land from the Hwang
family with some silver he had stored by selling his harvest. His major dependence on the land came
when Wang Lung s family faces a terrible famine. The drought impeded water to get to the crops. All
his crops had withered, except the ones in the new piece of land he had bought from the House of
Hwang (Baw, 3). He felt determined to buy more land from the Hwang family, even if it meant the
children must all starve if the plants starve (Buck, 48). Wang Lung trusted that the land would save
him from the starvation the drought had brought him. What originally brought the drought was the
lack of water. The rain during this time of crisis was a symbol of the suffering his family had to go

Teaching Against Literacy Walter Parker Analysis
In American classrooms many democratic ideals are present. Each classroom may use them in
different ways, but they are all around the school system. In each classroom visited during TE 100
democracy was alive. Each school proudly displayed a true democratic atmosphere from the large,
diverse hallways of Grand Island Senior High, the colorful, friendly rooms of Holdrege Middle
School, or the fun, interactive feel of Kenwood Elementary. In each school, students of all types were
all given amazing democratic environments to learn and grow in, and are all in the process of
becoming democratic citizens.

equal opportunities to succeed. This is an important aspect to have in the classroom. Freedom and

Walt Disney Creating A Sense Of Nostalgia Essay
Creating a Sense of Nostalgia
Walt Disney s remarkable legacy that he s left behind includes all of his creations through the 20th
century. His cartoon films and theme parks have targeted a young audience and most of us can recall
watching Disney movies at a young age according to Barrier, Practically everyone knows Disney the
corporation, the movies, the theme parks... or going to Disneyland or Walt Disney World for the first
time when we were little (Barrier 152). Sometimes we get caught up in a hectic life and we lose sight
of our own happiness. Revisiting these old times such as watching a Disney movie that you used to at
a young age or spending some time in one of Walt s theme parks brings a sense of nostalgia. For a
brief moment you are taken back and remember that life is not so bad and you are emerged in
happiness. Typically, we tend to have good memories connected with those films or theme parks,
because as a child, responsibilities and worries didn t exist yet and times were much simpler.

Teddy Bear Identity
3) Teddy Bear Identity WRITE UP: One of the most aspect and trait that was evident was the identity
of Canadian Military personals and families. During World War One, Ten year old Aileen Rogers sent
her teddy bear with her father, hoping that it would keep him safe, companied, and bring home some
good luck. Aileen seemed to understand what war was like, and meaning of her father being overseas
serving in the proud Canadian Expeditionary Force. Nevertheless, as the father fought in the muddy
battle of Passchendaele in Belgium in 1917, Lawrence Roger s was killed, and as the soldiers noticed
they retrieved his body, and found the teddy bear in his pocket. It was returned to the Rogers family,
along with other personal items, including his spare jacket and Cap. These mementoes served as a
family artefact with a deep thoughtful message between husband and father. This resembled the strong
Canadian family s values and identities, a one filled with a strong family connection. This artefact kept
the father with hope, and he cherished the true connection of home to the brave Canadians serving
overseas. These are the true connection of Canadian family values during times of despair where they

The Adopt-A-Rock Project
THE GAME OF STONES: KYANITE QUARTZITE
ABSTRACT
The main objective of this Adopt A Rock project is to analyze and categorize thin section #86 as well
as educate the reader about kyanite quartzite and its role on Earth. To identify the #86 thin section:
First, using individual mineral characteristics and descriptions under a petrologic microscope,
followed by hand sample diagnostics. Metamorphic rocks are significant pieces in the Earth s
geochronology. As they develop from the transformation of existing rock types, in a process called
metamorphism, which means, change in form . Metamorphic rocks are important since they make up a

Kyanite quartzites are rare fine grained quartzites with 70% to 85% mode of quartz and less than 15%
mode kyanite (Al2SiO5) which occur in Proterozoic supracrustal rock units (Müller, et al, 2007).
Kyanite quartzites appear in four less populated cities in Norway: Solør, Surnadalen, Nasafjellet and
Skjome (Müller, et al, 2007). Kyanite Quartzite can also be found in the Southeastern part of the
United States. The largest kyanite mine on Earth is hosted at Willis Mountain in the Piedmont
Province of Virginia, and several smaller bodies occur through this region (Owens and Pasek, 2009).
Kyanite quartz deposits are the biggest and most plentiful of the group of high alumina quartzose
deposits in the Southeast (Espenshade and Potter, 1960). The primary kyanite deposits in the
Farmville district are the deposits of kyanite quartzite at Willis Mountain and Woods Mountain in
Buckingham County, at Leigh and Baker Mountains in Prince Edward County (Espenshade and
Potter, 1960).
As well as being an exquisite metamorphic rock, Kyanite Quartzites do have a particular economic
value to the world also (Müller, et al, 2007). Low concentrations of trace elements in quartz, quartz is

Aviation Scholarship Essay
I have been involved with aviation my entire life. Surprisingly enough, it all began with paper
airplanes. As a young child I spent many of my days folding a variety of different paper airplane
designs, exploring how each different fold would change the way it flew. As a result, this piqued my
interest to explore the fundamentals of aviation. I could spend hours reading about aircraft design and
learning about the history of flight. A few years later, at the age of nine, I saved up for my first radio
controlled airplane. This was my introductory to radio controlled flight and taught me countless
valuable life lessons. After several years of flying model airplanes, I decided to build my first racing
drone. It was equipped with a first person view (FPV) video system. This allowed me to fly it from the
drone s perspective, providing a bird s eye view of the landscape below. FPV gave me an entire new
sense of freedom. With the headset on, I was no longer bound to the earth, but brought the ability to

Perfect Life And Perfect Families
Perfect Life and Perfect Families What is a perfect life or perfect family? From an outsider looking in,
what does that life look like for you? Is the pressure of comparing your family with others and
realizing that you do not measure up to what you see? We all have dreams of what our ideal life would
be. Sometimes these are prompted by the model families that we have seen, or perhaps they are the
dreams we had of what our own family should be like. Is there such a thing as perfect families or the
perfect life? In the movie Juno and American Beauty some of these families try so hard to look picture
perfect, however they are far from it. Remember that looks can be deceiving and comparison unfair. In
the movie Juno, sixteen year old Juno is the type of girl that beats to her own drum, and doesn t really
care what other people think of her. Juno ends up pregnant from her boyfriend, Paulie Bleeker. So she
decides to have the baby and give the baby up for adoption. Juno finds the perfect couple to adopt her
baby. She finds Mark and Vanessa Loring, a yuppie couple living in the suburbs. Juno likes the Loring

of grunge music and horror films. Vanessa is a little more uptight and is the one in the relationship
seemingly most eager to have a baby. Juno enters a closed adoption contract with the Loring s.

Research Paper On Amelia Earhart
One day she was flying over the ocean, the next day she was gone, never to be seen again. Amelia
Earhart was a pilot and the first woman to fly across the Atlantic Ocean. In 1937 Amelia was flying
over the Pacific Ocean when she and her plane disappeared. Because Amelia Earhart was such an
important person in American History, we need to find out what happened to her. There are quite a few
theories about what happened to Earhart. Some of these are she was a spy, gathering information
about the Japanese, or she crashed into the Pacific Ocean. One of the most widely believed theories is
Amelia Earhart s disappearance was caused by her plane crashing onto Gardner Island. There is plenty
of physical evidence proving she crashed onto the island. Also, there are experts that believe this is
what happened to her and there are radio calls from Earhart after her disappearance.
One of the biggest things proving Earhart crashed onto Gardner Island is the physical evidence found
on the island. Having artifacts on the island that belonged to Amelia or her plane proves that she was
on the island. One piece of physical evidence is that there were bones found on the island. The
morphology of the recovered bones, as far as we can tell applying contemporary forensic methods to
measurements taken at the time, appears consistent with a female of Earhart s height and ethnic origin
( Bryner 1). This quote shows that the bones could have been from Amelia Earhart. Another piece of

Sexism In Sports
Sexism in Sports Sexism limits our country. In a world where sexism still exists, women face
challenges every day as they choose to embark in athletic activities. Even with the efforts of Title IX,
which was established in 1972, there is not equality in sports for men and women. Sexism is real with
stereotypes and discrimination on the basis of sex. Even with the high level of success reached by
numerous female athletes of many different sports, male athletes always seem to have the upper hand.
Whether it is pay, media, support, gear, or playing grounds, one sex always has the better of the two.
Male athletes dominate a field that truly is shared by both sexes. What if we treated male athletes the
way we treat female athletes? That is a world hard to imagine, and honestly, it shouldn t be. Through
female athletes sharing their stories of unfair treatment and pay, sexism and generations of inequality
in sports can be overcome. Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 states, No person in the
United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or
be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial
assistance. The impact of Title IX on the lives of so many girls is immeasurable. It has created
opportunities for women, where opportunities did not use to exist. Unfortunately, it has not completely
eradicated sexism. Women in many professional sports, which are also played by

Flaws Of The Intellectualist Theory
In the modern era, it is impossible to deny that science and technology have become powerful,
defining forces within contemporary society. Recent technological advances have vastly improved
living standards, and faith in scientific research has provided rational, empirical explanations for the
previously unexplainable. However, it is simultaneously impossible to deny the equal importance of
both religion and magic upon the foundations of human culture.
Yet, as human society has evolved and progressed over the centuries, how has the human relationship
to magic and religion changed? Has faith in the supernatural, or inanimate forces, been replaced by a
faith in technology?

Tylor failed to account for the specific processes and mechanisms by which cultural evolution took
place, and neglected to address why magic and religion continue to survive if there is not a specific,

destabilization of societal functions in the presence of evolutionary forces.
Both schools, however, are equally integral to the recognition that science, magic, and religion are
important facets of human society and development, and provide needed explanations for human
existence and the occurrence of worldly events. Though science and technology have become
important factors in human evolution, it is arguable that magic and religion will continue to remain an

Northern Ireland s Funeral Traditions
Northern Ireland s Funeral Traditions in Literature One of the most telling parts of a society is how
they handle the traditions that surround one of the hardest things that humans experience: death.
Northern Ireland is a prime example of how a group of people can build up a set of traditions that help
the morning process and how those traditions can be a healing experience that helps a family and
community celebrate the life of the deceased. Washing and preparing the body is an important part of
the process that has been mentioned in several works of poetry. The traditional Irish Wake is also

He describes it as, They had been laid out/ in tainted rooms,/ their eyelids glistening,/ their dough
white hands/ shackled in rosary beads. Through this depiction of the dead we can see the preparation
that went into the body, it had been washed and laid out in a very traditional way, the way hat it had
been done for centuries. This sense of tradition can, in a lot of ways, help ease some of the pain from
the loss, the sense of belonging to a community of people with a set of traditions that even the dead
have a right to. We also see how important the rosary is to the Catholics that this is describing, so
important that Heaney mentioned it in his description, symbolizing that the rosary beads and the
religion that they belong to still trap the body that they are attached to, even in death. Daniel Hoffheins
from UC Davis says in his literary analysis says Heaney slyly adds at the end of the second and third
stanzas that the corpses rosaries act as shackles, fettering their obediently sloped wrists. Such
intentional observations echo Heaney s initial qualifying statement and lace his courteous admiration
with a hint of sarcasm, lending the tableau of the hovering women around the open coffins a bathetic
quality, like moths hovering around an open flame. . Hoffheins makes the same point that their
religion and their sympathies make them slaves to the idea of a united Catholic Ireland. Heaney

Genetically Modified Foods Debate
Many consumers do not wish to eat food that has been dosed with pesticides because of the possibility
of health hazards. However, genetically modified foods are quite capable of helping eliminating the
utilization of harmful chemical pesticides. Due to this, many farmers choose and prefer to plant
biotech produce because of this benefit. In recent news, Sudan decided to take part in planting a type
of these crops, Bt cotton. The production of Bt cotton has led to a decrease in the amount of
insecticides used by 50%, reducing the risk of exposure to these chemicals. In China, the use of Bt
cotton has led to a reduction of 78,000 tons of pesticide which covers about a quarter of what China
has sprayed. (ISAAA,
http://www.isaaa.org/resources/publications/briefs/44/executivesummary/default.asp) Furthermore, the
uses of these types of biotech crops allow a reduction of risks associated with agricultural waste run
offs. GMOs in these countries show how they are beneficial especially for preventing environmental
and human contact damage.
As the population on the world continues to increase rapidly, soon farmers will need to find a way to
grow crops in unsuited areas. This is where GMOs come in. A company, Dupont Pioneer, released
eight versions of its customarily bred Aquamax corn and found that it boosts yields up by 7% in
drought conditions compared to regular grown corn. Additionally, interbreeding the genetically

My Observations At The Pacific Center Mall Essay
Introduction: The mall is commonly known as a social hub where people of all ages can go to meet
friends, go shopping, enjoy a meal, or simply relax. With this in mind, it was the perfect spot to
observe, record, and analysis any cultural norms. For this observational report, I conducted my
observations at the Pacific Centre Mall on Saturday October 8th, 2016 from 1:30 pm to 4:30pm. Since
it was a Saturday just after lunch time, I assumed it was going to be busy and crowded. When I
arrived, my assumptions were correct as I saw a lot of people and it was fairly packed. After reading
Poe s The man of the crowd (1840), I was able to observe some themes from the story as well as other
common characteristics which I was also to see in the mall while I underwent my observations. I was
able to witness the isolation of an individual even while in a dense area. I was soon able to distinguish
people based on their groups and actions like the narrator did in the story. I could also see the
gathering of people and groups in certain areas or stores and the overwhelming presence of certain
brands in the form of handheld devices and beverages, to shopping bags. Lastly, the appearance of the
people circling the area over and over again. With the combinations of these themes, the mall created a
dynamic where people of different backgrounds, sociability skills, and genders could blend
cohesively.

Describe Your Happy Place
Where is your happy place? I grew up on the mid north coast of NSW in a small town called Valla
Beach which was nestled between the bush and the beach. Because it was such a small town in which
most people knew each other, I was granted relative freedom to roam the native environment and
explore. I have very fond memories of riding my scooter up and down the streets with my friends and
neighbours, cantering through the bush in front of my house, making up stories about my life if I had
lived there and spending all day on the beach, crisping in the sun. Being inside seemed like such a dull
affair when you could be immersed in a different world, a natural world. I feel as if these early life
experiences led me to always have a special connection with the natural environment as it was the one
true place that I could seek comfort and clarity my happy place.
Across the road from my house was extensive bushland that stretched a few kilometres until it was cut
off by the highway. In many ways, it was my childhood playground. There was a small dam in the
bushland that I often took my dog to play fetch and cool off. There was a bush track that winded up
and down hills and ended in a small little clearing and there was also dirt bike tracks that a local boy
had made from scrap materials. When I was 12, a housing development crew came to town and begun

Essay about Ronald Dworkins Liberal Morality
Dworkin begins by roughly defining liberalism according to the New Deal: It combined an emphasis
on less inequality and greater economic stability with more abundant political and civil liberty for the
groups campaigning for these goals. Dworkin states that such a definition is inadequate and goes on to
elaborate on liberalism in more depth. The liberal, in economic policies, demands that the inequalities
of wealth be reduced through social programs such as welfare and other redistribution financed by a
progressive tax. Liberals also take a Keynesian policy toward the governments stabilizing intervention
in the economy, such as controlling inflation and unemployment. And liberals support freedom of
speech, racial equality and are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The conservative protects the commodity of liberty, valued for its own sake, more effectively than the
liberal. But unlike liberty, equality is a concept that can be shown, and because of this, it can be stated
that conservatives do in fact favor equality less and liberals more.
Two concepts of equality must be distinguished according to Dworkin: the first is that the government
should treat all its citizens, or all those that are in its charge as equals, and the second principle of
equality requires that the government treat all of those in its charge equally in the distribution of some
resource of opportunity. Liberals sense of equality will fall more into the latter idea of equality. The
conservative feels that, treating citizens as equals, as the liberals see equality, would amount to
treating the citizens in fact as unequal. The most efficient means of helping the least well off in fact is
the free market, and not the government s redistribution of wealth.
But then what does it mean for the government to treat its citizens as equals? The first supposes that
government must be neutral on what might be called the good life, and the second one supposes that
government cannot treat its citizens as equal human beings without a theory of what human beings out
to be. The first theory states that because every citizen has a different

several elements. I will base it off of the four P s: Participation, Performance, Progress, and Process. I
will go in to detail about how I performed in these areas over the semester. I will also reflect on one of

but my last few essays turned out to be great because I finally got help and more feedback from
others. Here is a screenshot of my first rhetorical analysis essay. It was about if everyone should go to
college. I did a poor job on this because I just summarized what the author did. Now the

Therefore, a more reliable source of economically viable labor became a necessity, and that baleful need coincided with the rise of the Trans Atlantic Slave Trade from Africa. This phenomenon was

The primary kyanite deposits in the Farmville district are the deposits of kyanite quartzite at Willis Mountain and Woods Mountain in Buckingham County, at Leigh and Baker Mountains in Prince Edward County (Espenshade and Potter, 1960). • 25. Aviation Scholarship Essay I have been involved with aviation my entire life. Surprisingly enough, it all began with paper airplanes. As a young child I spent many of my days folding a variety of different paper airplane designs, exploring how each different fold would change the way it flew. As a result, this piqued my interest to explore the fundamentals of aviation. I could spend hours reading about aircraft design and learning about the history of flight. A few years later, at the age of nine, I saved up for my first radio controlled airplane. This was my introductory to radio controlled flight and taught me countless valuable life lessons. After several years of flying model airplanes, I decided to build my first racing drone. It was equipped with a first person view (FPV) video system. This allowed me to fly it from the drone s perspective, providing a bird s eye view of the landscape below. FPV gave me an entire new sense of freedom. The light closes in on the buildings, consuming them, consuming you. Can t escape, can t breathe, completely overwhelmed. When suddenly you hear CUT! , and find yourself on a movie set, watching a scene that just get shot, back in the real world. That feeling you experienced, surrendering yourself, your senses is called suspension of disbelief. The willingness to suspend one s critical facilities and believe the unbelievable. This disbelief is not in used in film but in art as well. The scene described above is from a piece called London s Burning by Chris Sheldrake, but you would also see some of the same aesthetics in the opening title sequence of The Dark Knight. All art forms feed of each other and by using three movies and their corresponding pieces of art, I will illustrate the influence that each of these individual images had on their respective films. How art inspires cinema. The Dark Knight was the second entry in The Dark Knight Trilogy directed by Christopher Nolan. He is an English film director, screenwriter, and producer. One of the highest grossing directors in history, and among the most acclaimed filmmakers in the 21st century. Is the pressure of comparing your family with others and realizing that you do not measure up to what you see? We all have dreams of what our ideal life would be. Sometimes these are prompted by the model families that we have seen, or perhaps they are the dreams we had of what our own family should be like. Is there such a thing as perfect families or the perfect life? In the movie Juno and American Beauty some of these families try so hard to look picture perfect, however they are far from it. Amelia Earhart was a pilot and the first woman to fly across the Atlantic Ocean. In 1937 Amelia was flying over the Pacific Ocean when she and her plane disappeared. Because Amelia Earhart was such an important person in American History, we need to find out what happened to her. There are quite a few theories about what happened to Earhart. Some of these are she was a spy, gathering information about the Japanese, or she crashed into the Pacific Ocean. One of the most widely believed theories is Amelia Earhart s disappearance was caused by her plane crashing onto Gardner Island. There is plenty of physical evidence proving she crashed onto the island. Also, there are experts that believe this is what happened to her and there are radio calls from Earhart after her disappearance. One of the biggest things proving Earhart crashed onto Gardner Island is the physical evidence found on the island. Having artifacts on the island that belonged to Amelia or her plane proves that she was on the island. One piece of physical evidence is that there were bones found on the island. The morphology of the recovered bones, as far as we can tell applying contemporary forensic methods to measurements taken at the time, appears consistent with a female of Earhart s height and ethnic origin ( Bryner 1). This quote shows that the bones could have been from Amelia Earhart. Another piece of physical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Even with the efforts of Title IX, which was established in 1972, there is not equality in sports for men and women. Sexism is real with stereotypes and discrimination on the basis of sex. Even with the high level of success reached by numerous female athletes of many different sports, male athletes always seem to have the upper hand. Whether it is pay, media, support, gear, or playing grounds, one sex always has the better of the two. Male athletes dominate a field that truly is shared by both sexes. What if we treated male athletes the way we treat female athletes? That is a world hard to imagine, and honestly, it shouldn t be. Through female athletes sharing their stories of unfair treatment and pay, sexism and generations of inequality in sports can be overcome. This sense of tradition can, in a lot of ways, help ease some of the pain from the loss, the sense of belonging to a community of people with a set of traditions that even the dead have a right to. We also see how important the rosary is to the Catholics that this is describing, so important that Heaney mentioned it in his description, symbolizing that the rosary beads and the religion that they belong to still trap the body that they are attached to, even in death. Daniel Hoffheins from UC Davis says in his literary analysis says Heaney slyly adds at the end of the second and third stanzas that the corpses rosaries act as shackles, fettering their obediently sloped wrists. Such intentional observations echo Heaney s initial qualifying statement and lace his courteous admiration with a hint of sarcasm, lending the tableau of the hovering women around the open coffins a bathetic quality, like moths hovering around an open flame. . • 39. Genetically Modified Foods Debate Many consumers do not wish to eat food that has been dosed with pesticides because of the possibility of health hazards. However, genetically modified foods are quite capable of helping eliminating the utilization of harmful chemical pesticides. Due to this, many farmers choose and prefer to plant biotech produce because of this benefit. In recent news, Sudan decided to take part in planting a type of these crops, Bt cotton. The production of Bt cotton has led to a decrease in the amount of insecticides used by 50%, reducing the risk of exposure to these chemicals. In China, the use of Bt cotton has led to a reduction of 78,000 tons of pesticide which covers about a quarter of what China has sprayed. (ISAAA, http://www.isaaa.org/resources/publications/briefs/44/executivesummary/default.asp) Furthermore, the uses of these types of biotech crops allow a reduction of risks associated with agricultural waste run offs. GMOs in these countries show how they are beneficial especially for preventing environmental and human contact damage. As the population on the world continues to increase rapidly, soon farmers will need to find a way to grow crops in unsuited areas. This is where GMOs come in. My Observations At The Pacific Center Mall Essay Introduction: The mall is commonly known as a social hub where people of all ages can go to meet friends, go shopping, enjoy a meal, or simply relax. With this in mind, it was the perfect spot to observe, record, and analysis any cultural norms. For this observational report, I conducted my observations at the Pacific Centre Mall on Saturday October 8th, 2016 from 1:30 pm to 4:30pm. Since it was a Saturday just after lunch time, I assumed it was going to be busy and crowded. When I arrived, my assumptions were correct as I saw a lot of people and it was fairly packed. After reading Poe s The man of the crowd (1840), I was able to observe some themes from the story as well as other common characteristics which I was also to see in the mall while I underwent my observations. I was able to witness the isolation of an individual even while in a dense area. I was soon able to distinguish people based on their groups and actions like the narrator did in the story. I could also see the gathering of people and groups in certain areas or stores and the overwhelming presence of certain brands in the form of handheld devices and beverages, to shopping bags. Lastly, the appearance of the people circling the area over and over again. With the combinations of these themes, the mall created a dynamic where people of different backgrounds, sociability skills, and genders could blend cohesively. Because it was such a small town in which most people knew each other, I was granted relative freedom to roam the native environment and explore. I have very fond memories of riding my scooter up and down the streets with my friends and neighbours, cantering through the bush in front of my house, making up stories about my life if I had lived there and spending all day on the beach, crisping in the sun. Essay about Ronald Dworkins Liberal Morality Dworkin begins by roughly defining liberalism according to the New Deal: It combined an emphasis on less inequality and greater economic stability with more abundant political and civil liberty for the groups campaigning for these goals. Dworkin states that such a definition is inadequate and goes on to elaborate on liberalism in more depth. The liberal, in economic policies, demands that the inequalities of wealth be reduced through social programs such as welfare and other redistribution financed by a progressive tax. Liberals also take a Keynesian policy toward the governments stabilizing intervention in the economy, such as controlling inflation and unemployment. The conservative protects the commodity of liberty, valued for its own sake, more effectively than the liberal. But unlike liberty, equality is a concept that can be shown, and because of this, it can be stated that conservatives do in fact favor equality less and liberals more. Two concepts of equality must be distinguished according to Dworkin: the first is that the government should treat all its citizens, or all those that are in its charge as equals, and the second principle of equality requires that the government treat all of those in its charge equally in the distribution of some resource of opportunity. Liberals sense of equality will fall more into the latter idea of equality. The conservative feels that, treating citizens as equals, as the liberals see equality, would amount to treating the citizens in fact as unequal. The most efficient means of helping the least well off in fact is the free market, and not the government s redistribution of wealth. But then what does it mean for the government to treat its citizens as equals?
