The Influence Of The Media In The Terminator
This media plays a very important role within the communication and giving enough information to
its listeners, viewers and readers all around the world. There are forms of communication that
relayed by the media is provided by the film where most films are produced to connect to those
viewers who watch them. The messages these films offer can either be negative and positive; even
though there may result in people acquiring certain trends or even stopping the performance of
particular activities commonly described in these films. The Terminator, in the various aspects of
the society and popular culture will be identified, discussed and analyzed in the paper.
At the beginning of the scene reflects that of the future in Los Angeles where a great deal of
technology which includes presence and ruling of the world, there is a huge technological
influence to society and popular culture, The Terminator can be categorized as a science fiction,
horror as well as an action filled thriller movie. The movie was produced in 1984 during which it
gained immense success. An incredible shift of the film from the future to the present, that is Los
Angeles in 1984, displays the possibility of the war that has persisted for long, being completed at
any moment regardless of the weapons available.
The artificially intelligent nature of the model 101 robot with an outer body Arnold Schwarzenegger
and two other more actors resembling humans is a good influence especially to the young people.

How Is FIFA Corrupted
The company of corruption I am talking about is FIFA. Their headquarters residing in ZГјrich,
Switzerland, the company was founded on May 21st, 1904 in Paris by representatives from
Denmark, France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Switzerland, and Sweden. The reason I
claim this company being corrupted is vaguely obvious. From the looks of things, they seem to
be the very definition of corruption. They are so corrupt, the ex vice president of the company
(Jack Warner) could see a satirical article from the Onion and actually believe it to be something
they d do. In fact, that s exactly what happened. If you look up on YouTube FIFA VP defends
himself by quoting The Onion this claim is what you will find. There are many cases of FIFA s

What about when he joined the NYCPD? The current commissioner told him the city would
break his spirit, and he wouldn t care about the citizens as much as he did when he joined. In a
few short months, Theodore rose through the ranks, became the new commissioner, and fired
the old one. He then routed out the corruption of the police department, by going out in a black
cape and hat, and found slacking officers who were supposed to be on duty, and gave them what

half a station that were Jewish. There was hardly anything this man couldn t do. His spirit was

Humorous Wedding Speech By The Father Of The Groom
Ladies and gentlemen, faculty, family, and my fellow classmates of the class of 2018, today is
nothing short of auspicious and I m ecstatic to share this milestone with all of you. Before I
begin, I would like to thank those teachers who chose this modest speech among the outstanding
collection of speeches submitted by my simply amazing peers. Although it is ironic that 99% of
this class is older than me and I have been chosen to address the class and impart wisdom and
reflection, I find it to be a great honor to deliver the T.C. Abbey Oration, and I promise I do not
take it lightly. I have carefully chosen every word and phrase with an understanding of the
responsibility bestowed on me. Today, I stand before you, as a graduating Senior, filled with

We ve taken this community for granted, that people so trustworthy and kind, and friendly and

Randomized Control Trial Summary
Peter Stalmans and associates143 conducted a randomized control trial. Its data support the finding
that intravitreal injection of ocriplasmin leads to resolution of vitreomacular traction, induction of
posterior vitreous detachment, and closure of a macular hole in some cases. The incidence of
vitrectomy was lower among the patients who received ocriplasmin than among those who
received placebo. A sham injection would have provided a better comparison with the natural
history of the disease process than that provided by the group of patients who received a placebo,
which was chosen to control for the effect of an intravitreal injection. The main visual symptom of
vitreomacular traction and macular holes is decreased visual acuity. Although more... Show more

Vitreous manipulation effected through intravitreal injection may occasionally result in a posterior
vitreous detachment,213,214 in which case, the placebo injection of 0.1 ml may have induced
some treatment response. The superior therapeutic effects of the ocriplasmin injection would then
be indicative of an additional biologic effect of enzymatic vitreolysis over placebo. The
applicability of this study is limited by the exclusion of patients with severe myopia, aphakia,
proliferative diabetic retinopathy, or neovascular age related macular degeneration.215 Further
studies will be needed to explore the effect of enzymatic vitreolysis in these diseases. In conclusion,
the study shows that enzymatic vitreolysis represents a mean to resolve vitreomacular traction and
to close macular holes. Intravitreal injection of ocriplasmin was superior to injection of placebo in
altering the vitreoretinal interface of affected eyes, although it was accompanied by some, mainly

Heart Of Darkness By Joseph Conrad
In Joseph Conrad s, Heart of Darkness one encounters the telling of Conrad s adventures on a
steamship traveling up the Congo when numerous, drastic accountancies take place. During this
Victorian age, men are seen as heroes and women are occupied by roles of domesticity, which
ironically the story tells quite the opposite from these two ideals. Throughout the text, one will
also learn from the imperialistic society that is set forth by the Europeans and the controversy
that arises because of the social system within the home and civilization. This story is set up by a
narrator, by the name of Marlow, who re telling the experiences that Conrad had and how various
obstacles were overcome with he and his intended or fiancГ©. In Heart of Darkness, the main
themes that are discussed and brought to light throughout the entire story are that of the hypocrisy
behind the idea of Imperialism, the madness that surrounds the absurdity of evil, and the idea of the
last encounter that Marlow has with Kurtz s intended and the irony that surrounds the circumstance.
First, the issue at hand with Imperialism and the insincerity that surrounds it is baffling, as Marlow
is traveling in and out of the many stations that neighbor the river he is on. Marlow is in awe, as
he has to encounter and be a bystander of much torture, cruelty and a senseof slavery that these
station workers possess and fight for on a daily basis, highly focusing on the Inner and Outer
Station or Central Station. As

Sardono Essay
The Physical Turn and Improvisation in the Seventies
Cultural imperialism, in a form of New York s World Expo in 1964, stands on the background of
this part of the story. A young Javanese dancer, Sardono W. Kusumo was a member of the
Indonesian dancer contingent for the expo. Extending his stay in the city that had become an
adopted home or, depending on your viewpoint, a thrift store of world culture, there he met another
young Indonesian, just a couple years his senior, an emerging poet cum theatre artist by the name
of Rendra. The following six months of his informal residency would be brief and memorable for
Sardono and its significance to Indonesian performance field would continue to resonate until a few
decades later.
In 2003, I was involved in organizing a gathering of a hundred performance artists from all around
Indonesia, a rare week of retreat for a convivial sharing, and workshop ... Show more content on

For Sardono, not the more cynical of the two, Jean s workshop was basically a hatha yoga session.
While the workshop s main contents were not new in their respective performance vocabulary,
Sardono was illuminated by Erdman s ability to appropriate the approach with a contemporary
framework that he found useful for developing a performance work. In the workshop, Erdman also
introduced them to her principle approach of improvisation. It is important to note here that Rendra
s introduction to the notion of improvisation as a modern theatre vocabulary might occurred earlier,
especially during his time studying at the American Dramatic Arts. Nonetheless, Sardono underlines
how Erdman taught her improvisation method systematically, which encouraged him to think more
about abstraction, imagination, spatial contact and bodily deconstruction, as he would eventually
develop as his working method in the seventies

Clothing During The Elizabethan Era
History has had many different Eras that helped shape the world today. The Elizabethan Era was
one of them. The Elizabethan Era was during the time of the Renaissance. It was a re birthed of
the old ways of ancient Rome and Greek culture. It was also a time for new fashion designs and
styles. The clothes during this time were different then what we wear today, a symbol of several
religious and economical ideas, and had an impact on how the people went about their lives.

Similarities Between Liberalism And International Relations
When looking at International Relations, there are two main political theories that tell us why
countries function and work the way they do. Realism is a school of thought that defines
international relations in terms of power, whereas Liberalism is a school of thought that argues
that with the correct institutions, states can independently function resulting in growth and
minimal conflict (Goldstein 43). While both theories have their strengths and weaknesses, truth
and rationale lie behind both as well. Today s world politics are better defined by The seeds of
Realism can be traced back to over 2,000 years ago when Chinese war strategist and philosopher
Sun Tzu wrote The Art of War, advising military leaders how to survive in a period where war
was rampant (Goldstein 43). It can also be seen in Thucydides The History of the Peloponnesian
War, an account of the struggle for power between Athens and Sparta in the 4th century BC (Korab
Karpowicz). In The History of the Peloponnesian WarThucydides questions whether or not power
is crucial to the advancement of the city states, stating that the strong do what they have the
power to do and the weak accept what they have to accept. (Goldstein 43). In the 1500 s, the idea
of Realism is emphasized again when philosopher and writer Niccolo Machiavelli, who believed in
manipulative power maneuvers and military alliances, was in favor of a political ruler that knows
the end justifies the means . Most famously, Thomas Hobbes who

Distance Learning Disadvantages
Looking at All Sides Distance learning is an emerging method of learning. Everyone can learn in
every time at any location as long as they can access to Internet. I use distance learning as well.
During the last summer vacation, I began to study how to play guitar by myself through some
videos which is posted on the Internet by some professional guitarists. Now I have gotten the first
level guitar certificate. The distance learning help me a lot. However, some people think distance
learning is useless compared with traditional classroom. Though people have various opinions
based on their experience, social roles and information from others, I still believe it is necessary to
look at all sizes because it can strengthen our own opinions and reduce misunderstanding. Some of
parents question about distance learning. They think distance learning is useless because it does
not have supervisors like teachers. Students may be distracted by the relaxing environment at home
and do not finish their homework on time. At the same time, some teachers also point out that
distance learning is not as efficient as classroom because it cannot have a discussion and
participation with peers and teachers. Without other students, they may lose the passion about
study. What is more, Communication with others also an important lesson to students. By contrast,
other students and office workers believe that distance learning can also be flexible for them. They
can learn wherever

Keep Your Head Up By Ben Howard
Keep Your Head Up Music is an art that has the capability of drawing out the deepest emotion
within us. For that very reason, we are extremely attracted to such art. Different genres attract
diverse groups of people. Often it is easy to spark memories within our consciousness by listening
to particular songs. For me personally, I have a bittersweet connection to the song, Keep Your
Head Up, By Ben Howard because the lyrics provoke happiness and encouragement, a couple of
traits I struggle with at times, yet the tune sparks beautiful memories with an estranged, beloved
friend. My sophomoreyear of high schoolwas one of the hardest years I have ever been through,
mentally and emotionally. Depression, lack of self esteem, and addiction had always affected
my life in some way, whether it be through close family members or friends or within my own
self. Through series of events, I found myself in a terrible place in life in my sophomore year of
high school, and I had not the slightest clue how to solve it. At some points, I did not even
really care to fix it. I struggled maintaining grades and maintaining relationships with my friends
as well as my parents. I was simply not a pleasant person to be around, yet somehow, in all of this
mess I called my life, someone special walked in, unexpectedly, and managed to spark a change
within me. We were instant best friends. People assumed we had known each other since a young
age, some even went to the extent of believing we

Gentiless In The Pardoner s Tale
The Clerks Tale greatly contrasts the traits of Gentiless and of Nobility. As covered above, the
Clerks Tale follows the abuse and test which Saluzzo enacts upon his wife Griselda. While Saluzzo
is clearly of nobility and exercises the power conferred by that often and regularly, the steely
resolve and good nature of Griselda demonstrates that while she is a commoner, she has much more
Gentiless than her husband Saluzzo.
The Franklin s Tale is a great exploration of trouthe conquering infidelity. When the husband of

I nominated the Reeve s Tale fifth as it is a great example of a fabliau. It remains humorous, even
to a modern audience. It also has instructional value, to an extent, as it features the cheating
Miller getting his comeuppance. I nominated the Friar s Tale fourth due to it s more dramatic
nature. Many of the tales focus on mortals, while the Friar s tale features a demon as a main
character. Similar to the Reeve s tale as well, the story features a villain, the summoner, being
punished for his wrongdoing. I nominated the Pardoner s Tale third because it is interesting that
the target of the moral preached by the tale, seems to be the same character telling it. The
Pardoner tells of three young men who happen upon a large store of gold, and kill each other out
of greed. This being while the Pardoner is one of the greediest characters in the Canterbury Tales. I
nominated the Prioress s tale second as I felt it was the most dated tale in Canterbury tales. The
blatant anti Semitism espoused in it makes it a rather interesting read, and it provides a good
amount of instructional value on how to properly treat people in retrospect. In the end, I would
have to pick the Knight s tale for the award as his tale contains some rather heavy themes for its
time. The lesson taught in the Knight s tale about the fickleness of fate

The Big Sleep Movie And Book Comparison Essay
In today s society, one thing that seems to bother people is the number of differences between a
novel and the movie that inevitably follows the publication of that novel. The Big Sleep, written by
Raymond Chandler, is one such novel that less than a decade after being written inspired the
creation of a film, starring Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall, that contains a few interesting
differences. According to John Dugdale in an article for The Guardian, Chandler created something
never seen before with The Big Sleep. Chandler s main character, Philip Marlowe, is a new type of
detective who represents someone who makes jokes and seems to be at ease with people of all
standing, and the simple fact that Marlowe enjoys the company of women and women enjoy his
company also sets him apart from the rest of the detectives of the time period (Dugdale). Despite
the many similarities existing within the plot and characters such as Carmen Sternwood, a few key
changes within the depiction of Detective Philip Marlowe differentiate the masterful novel written
by Raymond Chandlerand the Howard Hawks film produced in 1946.... Show more content on

novel closely with regards to the plot. A.G. Geiger remains the blackmailer and pornographer

character whose only important role is to be a murderer. Once done with this role, he dies in a
way that no one knows the exact circumstances surrounding his death. Multiple other deaths
occur. The big sleep fills this novel from cover to cover. Joe Brody, an opportunistic gambler;
Harry Jones, a little man; Lash Canino, a deadly thug; and Mr. Regan, an elusive ex bootlegger,
all suffer from the sting of death. The curse of the big sleep makes the crossing over from Chandler

Mohan Vs Liederman
1. Short answer (Weeks 9, 11, 12): Compare and contrast the main arguments of Mohanty, Sen, and
Liederman. How are they similar to one another? How are they different from each other?
The similarity between Mohanty and Liederman is that they both talk about the underrepresented
women. In Mohanty, these underrepresented women are the third world women and in Liederman,
they are women who wear headscarf in France. Another similarity is that they both wrote about
either them or some other culture belief in only one right religion/belief and anything else is wrong.
For example, Mohanty belief that these third world women are oppressed because they do not go
to school and have no education. Sen and Lieberman, both refer to the religion and culture as a
willingness and not a force to the people. For example, Sen explains about the alleged Asian values
that it s not that Asian do not want to be free, but it s just that they put the state s right before their

First Person Narration In Charlotte Bronte s Jane Eyre
For the initial presentation of Jane Eyre, BrontГ« uses first person narration to introduce Jane to
the reader, What does Bessie say I have done, I asked . BrontГ« may have decided to use first
person narration to make the reader look at the world through Jane Eyre s eyes which gives a
voice to a young child which in the Victorian era children were seldom given a voice. BrontГ«
created Jane at the bottom of society; a female orphan at a half charity school. It is apparent as
soon as the reader meets Jane Eyrefor the first time that Jane is low in status and has no choice or
power of her situation. In the Victorian era, mostly men would have been reading it because most
women in the Victorian era were not educated enough to read such a novel; BrontГ« replicates this
by making most of her male characters rich and dominant. Additionally, BrontГ« may have written
the book so men in the Victorian era can see how women were mistreated which promotes
feminism. Although, when the reader first meets Rochester, he may seem fulfilled, but as the
novel progresses, BrontГ« unveils Rochester s secrets and horrible past. This projects that even if

how to do daily chores because she always has had a servant, the dust storms caused mama to get

had to face was learning daily chores that she had never done because she had always had a

Unraveling The Meaning Of `` Kill The Indian, Save The Man...
Unraveling the meaning of Kill the Indian, Save the Man
There are so many different definitions of the word racism, but how does each peron define it?
One individual, Richard Henry Pratt, clearly knew how to thoroughly define the word,
Segregating any class or race of people apart from the rest of the people kills the progress of the
segregated people or makes their growth very slow (Howard 2016). Unfortunately, we are still
living in the repercussion of Pratt s word. The United States history is full of examples that have led
to the ethnocentric development of the country. One of the most remote examples of this
ethnocentric belief is displayed with the construction of off reservation boarding schools for Native
Americans first started in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, by former general, Richard Henry Pratt. The
purpose of the schools was to strip Native Americans of their cultural traditions and teach them the
skills necessary to function in American Society. Pratt keyed this belief with the saying Kill the
Indian, save the man, in order to justify his reasons to assimilate the Indians to the white culture.
However, were the American Indians really forced to assimilate because society wanted to help
them, or because they wanted America to be solely made of true Americans with American culture?
How was the assimilation of the Indians satisfactory when it created cultural genocide? Having
assimilated the Indian man did not save him, it merely replaced him.

Jean Anyon s essay and study of The Hidden Curriculum of Schools argues that the quality of
education you receive is solely based on your standing in the different levels of social classes in
which you were born into. Mike Rose s essay I Just Wanna Be Average confirms this hidden
curriculum as he recalls his misplacement into vocational schoolin which the parents of the students
that attended worked blue collar jobs. Mike Rose s essay confirms Jean Anyon s study in showing
that your educationis heavily based upon the social class you are in. The lower you rank in social
class the less of an education you receive whereas students that rank higher receive a more quality
education. Both authors argue, correctly, that education should work... Show more content on

There were a few teachers who worked hard at education... (...). He uses words such as dumping
ground and disaffected to how that the Vocational track education that Rose received relates
closely to the education of students in most working class schools. The teachers in this school
were almost always uninterested and untrained which then reflected onto the students. The same
disinterest of education that the teachers showed oftentimes reflected onto the students. The
students in the Vocational track rarely cared about making high marks or actually receiving a
meaningful education thus trapping them in the same unskilled jobs as their parents. If you re
a working class kid in the vocational track, the options you ll have to deal with this will be
constrained in certain ways: you re defined by your school as slow ; you re placed in a
curriculum that isn t designed to liberate you but to occupy you, or, if you re lucky, train you,
though the training is for work the society does not esteem. (...). If these same students in Rose s

Trauma In The Novel The Suspect By L. R.
How Trauma Can Affect Lives
Many individuals have flashbacks after experiencing trauma. Survivors of such horrible traumas
sometimes can act out in violence, after something triggers them to remember the ordeal. The novel
The Suspect by L.R. Wright, offers a realistic account of what goes on in the mind of an individual
who has committed murder. Throughout the novel, I made connections to many real life examples
of how trauma has affected the lives of criminals and their victims, through either alcohol or
mental illness. Individuals affected by this sort of trauma can seek medical or social help in order
to be able to learn how to cope with daily living.
L.R. Wright starts the novel The Suspect, by talking about how the main character George
Wilcox killed his ex brother in law Carlyle Burke in the isolated little community of Sechelt,
British Columbia. Wright described the scene of how George killed Carlyle. As George was
trying to leave, Carlyle did not like the idea that George was leaving, and was telling him he
needed to respect him. When Carlyle started to talk about George s family by saying ... Show more

Utah Lake Speech
I am writing to you today to talk about the state of Utah Lake and how to clean it up. Utah Lake
is the only lake that is easy to access without going on an hour or longer car trip from Utah Valley.
Because of that we should try and make Utah Lake more tourist friendly and better looking. This
would bring more people there and make it a better experience to be there. In its current state Utah
Lakeisn t a very attractive destination. Utah Lake got 134,000 visits in 2017 which is pretty high
compared to other parks in Utah but it isn t that much compared the more visited state parks.
When most people think of Utah they probably think of Southern Utah. You could have more
tourists come to more places in Utah other than Southern Utah by giving more natural options in
Central and Northern Utah. Utah lake is already a pretty nice place to go and fish but other than
that there is not much else to do. You could make it a nice place to go swimming which would
bring a lot more people than just fishers. The three main causes for Utah Lake not being an
attractive place are its high phosphorus levels, the lake being shallow, and the non native carp
living there. All of these factors work together to make Utah Lake... Show more content on

The solution to the carp problem is easy. You can either reward people for turning in carp to
incentivise people to not put the carp back and or you could send boats onto the lake that fish
specifically carp. The phosphorus is also pretty easy. What you will need to do is stop all
dumping into the lake to stop the phosphorus from going up, and then adding or breeding more
fish into the lake to naturally get rid of the phosphorus. But with adding fish you will have to make
sure that it doesn t upset the balance. In conclusion the solutions are pretty easy to pull off so it you
shouldn t need to put too much energy into

Tanzanian Workers Essay
Tanzanian Workers Abused in Oman and the United Arab Emirates Young women all over the
world are abused and stuck in unfair working conditions. These women are hopeless, and nobody
will help. The violation of human rights lays in their being overworked, beaten, starved, underpaid,
and abused both physically and verbally. One instance of this happening is Tanzanian women being

opportunities that pay enough to sustain their families, the country as a whole is very poor and

Aaron Beck, the Father of Cognitive Therapy, has been known to state the following: People are
missing the boat if they say that because it can be treated by drugs, depression [and other
psychological disorders] are primarily biological in nature... People who receive psychotherapy

both be beneficial for psychological disorders, but I believe in order to take medication you must

One can simply say they have depression and can get through it with psychotherapy and making a
plan with their physician, while others with more debilitating symptoms may find medication vital.
I believe with medication it is important to keep going to therapy in that it helps one build a better
plan for oneself and understanding their disorder more. Rather than taking medication and
experiencing side effects you have never experienced before, or complications with one s
medication, frequent therapy visits can monitor these effects and take precautions. Combining
therapy and medication leads to success in that it monitors one s medication and side effects,
educates the individual on their medication and disorder, and helps build one a beneficial plan to
help manage their disorder even further.

Importance Of Self Assessment
The Importance of Self Assessment Self assessment is an important aspect of teaching, as it allows
the teacher to reflect upon the successfulness of the content of the lesson and the communication,
along with the delivery of instruction and if each student s learning was successful. Looking at
each of these individually, there are specific components that a teacher should look reflect on and
assess. When broken down, there is a better chance of determining where changes to a lesson, or to
teaching, might be needed to make it more successful for learning. The first area of teaching to
assess is the subject matter, which is one of the most important aspects to reflect on, as this has to
be developmentally appropriate much more. Reflecting on the specific subject content of a lesson
is important for many reasons. Some of the most important things to consider are if it is
developmentally appropriate, that the objectives are sound and measurable, and that it is related to
the student s experiences or knowledge. Determining if a lesson is developmentally appropriate is
important as if it is not it can either leave students bored, too below standards, or confused, too
above standards. This also leads to ensuring that objectives are sound and measurable, as measuring
objectives will help to indicate if the lesson was successful and if students learned the content or
skill, which indicates the appropriateness of it. The last important aspect to touch on is relating
learning to the

Theme Of Seize The Day By Saul Bellow
Bellow is considered as one of the most celebrated authors of the 20th century and American
literature s most resourceful writer for all times. He has come to his prominence slowly through a

with each new novel. Since his appearance on the literary scene in the midforties, Saul Bellow,
recipient of the 1976 Nobel Prize for literature, has left his mark on the international literary world.
He is one the few contemporary authors who has been able to sustain the interest and dominate the
field of academic and scholarly inquiry for over four decades. His fiction typically addresses the
meaning of human existence in an increasingly aloof and world of mechanism. Writing in a
humorous, subjective style, Bellow often depicts introspective individuals sorting out a conflict

The Post War World War II
The post war world was one of complete ruin. More than 40 million Europeans died and at least 25
million of them were civilians that had been killed in bomb raids, concentration camps, and during
famine or starvation. Cities, towns, and villages on the home fronts were destroyed and nothing
remained of many homes. Because of all of the distress, thousands of people all turned to their
governments for assistance. Unfortunately for almost everyone in Europe and Japan, their
governments had all failed. Thus, a lot of their problems were rightfully blamed on their

Everything would be the same under communist rule. This is what all of the Europeans believed
communists would do for them. All they wanted was order and happiness so that things would

government in the past. After all, the USSR had been standing for thirty to forty years by this
time. The last reason that I believe Europeans favored communism was because they simply
offered change. It was a very enticing offer, but in the end, it wasn t enough. To summarize, I
think Europeans favored communism because it would have provided them with necessities
that they were lacking, it gave them a sense of order and structure, and it offered them change.

tried those who were supporting them, although they are equally guilty, it would have been quite
difficult. After all, if it weren t for the leaders it probably never would have happened. The first
reason to justify only trying the leaders is that

Romanticism In The Last Of The Mohicans
Aspect of Romanticism in The Last of The Mohicans Romanticism is an artistic and intellectual
movement mainly in France and England that started in the last 18th century and came to
America in the 19th century. Honor, Nationalism, Superstition/Horror, Pastoralism, and Love are
all the aspects of romanticism that showed up in Michael Mann s movie The Last of The
Mohicans. Honor is good reputation: good quality or character as judged by other people. Two
subcategories of honor are heroes, persons who are admired for great or brave acts or fine
qualities, and chivalry, the qualities of an ideal knight. In The Last of The Mohicans, Hawkeye,
Uncas, and Chingachgook all rescued Duncan, Alice, Cora during the attack on them in the woods.

employment outlook and salary. There are also benefits and pension plans.
Police officers in Suffolk County do many different things. They do the general police work in the
protection of all people, legal rights and property. Also, they get assigned different areas to patrol
in a patrol car or on foot to prevent any crimes happening in that community. They enforce traffic
laws, take calls for any crime that is happening, take to witnesses at crime scenes and arrest
criminals. There are certain requirements to get this job, just like any other. The civil service exam
to become a suffolk police officer is given every four years, that is why it is very competitive. This

A tremendous amount of people take this test and with it only be given every four years, you
would need a very high score to be called. However, if a person does get called, the salary and
benefits are great. The starting salary is $42,000 a year(which does include while in the
academy). After 12 years of the salary increasing, it is around $111,506.00. The benefits include
paid optical, dental and medical plans. Also, paid sick days and vacation days increase for every
couple of years of service. Police officers are eligible for retirement after 20 years of service.
Although a difficult job to get, being a Suffolk County Police Officer has many advantages. There
are many tests and requirements to go through, but the salary is good along with the

Alexander The Great Tactics Essay
Alexander the Great was one of the most prominent leaders on the battlefield. His war tactics
and strategies have led him to become the leader of the most powerful, largest empire in the
ancient world in the 300 s BCE. Alexander the Great used unique strategies shown in the battle of
Tyre, Granicus and Gaugamela to defeat The Persian Empire. The Persian Empire at the time
controlled most of Asia, Middle East and North Africa. #1 Body paragraph: Alexander the Great
was a master at siege warfare which preceded him to triumph in the Battle of Tyre in 332 BC. As
Alexander the Great was heading to Egypt, he conquered many places along the Eastern
Mediterranean. One of the places was the Island of Tyre on the eastern coast of Lebanon. This Island

Near a small village of Gaugamela in present day Iraq, two powerful empires engaged in a battle;
Persia and Macedon. The Macedonian army was one fifth the size of Persia s. Alexander risked
everything on this one battle, if he wins the richest empire on the planet is his and if he loses
45,000 men will be slaughtered and Greece would be open to invasion. Alexander the Great was
confident and he did not care less. With his war tactics and strategies he knew he could pull out
one of the most fascinating victories of all time. Darius II had laid out his battle line in a
tremendous challenge for his opponents; two and half mile long. Alexander the Great was
overlapped by a half a mile from each side which made it possible for Darius s cavalry to go from
both sides. Alexander the Great thought of it as hard challenge but his complex tactics could
not let him down. The Macedonian Phalanx was probably the most potent weapon of war in the
ancient world; 256 men arranged 16 across by 16 deep. The spears were around 15 to 18 feet
long. The Phalanx formation was deadly and overwhelming. The Phalanx was arranged with the
left side facing outward away from the battle expecting an attack from the side. Running on foot
are the cultists; Alexander the Great s light infantry. Cultists would be all over the battlefield,
they would have a variety of weapons. They used short range arrows, javelins and sling shots.
These weapons were important as they would hit high value targets such as the chariot groups.
The cultists was one of Alexander s key strategies to win the battle. Darius II released his
powerful weapon; the chariots. Alexander the Great knew it was coming, he taught his phalanx
army a brilliant tactic to defeat them. He taught his men to trap the chariot, it is called; the
mousetrap. A horse would never go towards a line of men holding sharp spears, so if you open

The Death Of The Western World
If she felt any misgiving, my presence would prevent it from being too late, even at the supposed
last moment... But her look of reply was quite sufficient; she had not come without counting the
cost. Her belief in the Pythagorean doctrine of transmigration was firm and fixed; and she looked
forward, without a doubt, to secure for herself and her husband, by this sacrifice, a new life of
happier existence, and more refined enjoyments than the sordid realities which the world now
offered... This quote, recorded by Richard Hartley Kennedy, a 19th century British surgeon living
in British India exemplifies the almost macabre fascination with the Hindu rite of widow burning
known as Sati that the Western World has developed over the course of the last several hundred
years. Perhaps, this morbid obsession originated with the Western World seeing in Sati a Romeo
and Juliette like expression of true love. Subsequently, the West s fascination can perhaps be
credited to the ensuing human rights controversy that this rite has generated over the course of the
past two hundred years. Regardless as to the reason of why the West has taken an interest in this
rite, I will attempt in this paper to decipher and interpret this ritual mostly through the lens of a
Western philosopher of religion, Mircea Eliade. Eliade, in his work The Sacred and The Profane:
The Nature of Religion, postulates that for modern men to truly understand religion, they must
remove themselves from contemporary

Withdrawal Design
Withdrawal Design Withdrawal designs are often used in determining if the treatment is directly
effecting the change in a behavior. In order to show a direct correlation between the treatment and
the altered behavior, withdrawal designs remove the treatment during one or more phases of the
experiment (Richards, Taylor, Ramasamy, 2014). Withdrawal designs allow the researcher to
directly show cause and effect between the behavior and the intervention treatment (Richards,
Taylor, Ramasamy, 2014). In order to present the experiment effects on a behavior the investigator
must first determine that the intervention is in fact the cause for the changed behavior, by showing
a clear functional relationship between variables. In order to measure... Show more content on

According to Byiers, Reichle, Symons (2012) in multiple baseline designs the evidence is
answering research questions regarding the effects of an independent variable across three or
more variables such as individuals, behaviors, stimuli, or settings. In other words, this design
provides evidence of the effects of the same independent variable across three variables. When a
multiple base line design is introduced all participants start in Baseline or the (A) phase. The
second step is to introduce the variable to the intervention in a scientific staggered method in order
to show experimental control which is considered the (B) phase ( Byiers, Reichle, Symons, 2012).
Once the intervention phases is stabilize the next step in the sequence is introduce. For each

Literary Analysis Of Cormac Mccarthy s The Road
In recent decades, Cormac McCarthy has staked his claim as one of the all time titans of American
literature through publishing masterpieces like Blood Meridian, Suttree, and The Road. In his
works his advanced level of technical mastery becomes apparent through his expertly harmonized
coordination of literary elements toward certain narrative ends, such as the generation of suspense.
In this light, McCarthy s literary styleis a practical one, in that he organizes literary elements in his
works toward actualizing particular goals. In The Road, for instance, McCarthy directs his style
throughout the text so as to maximize the feeling of suspense that readers experience throughout
the book. This kind of stylistic maneuvering is expressed on pages 105 110 and pages 118 123 of
the the text. But, it must be noted here that the generation of suspense in these passages does not
result from similar stylistic approaches. McCarthy uses style in differently in Passage A and
Passage B but ultimately toward the same end, namely generating suspense for readers of The
Road. Passage A relies on dialogue to develop its suspense, whereas the style of Passage B relies on
narrative action for its suspense.
In Passage A, McCarthy uses ambiguous and foreboding dialogue in order to generate narrative
suspense. At the beginning of this passage the father and the son come upon a house at the edge of
an old town s remnants, and the boy asks his father where they are (105). The father ignores the

A Farewell Of Arms By Ernest Hemingway
In his novel A Farewell to Arms Ernest Hemingway wrote, We re going to have a strange life.
(D). His life was not ordinary by any means; he became the voice of his generation with his
poignant works capturing the emotions of the American people after World War I. In his novel A
Farewell to Arms Ernest Hemingwayattempts to demonstrate through the characters of Frederic
Henry and Rinaldi the feelings of horror and disillusionment the people of the Modern era tried to
escape.
Ernest Miller Hemingway was born on July 21, 1899, in the suburbs of Chicago to a middle
class family. As the oldest of six children, Hemingway was very close with his mother even
though he often disagreed with her values (Shuman, R. Baird 897). Hemingway s passion for the
outdoors was instilled in him at a young age when his family would spend summers in the
woods of northern Michigan ( Hemingway, Ernest ). After graduating from Oak Park High
School in 1917, Hemingway decided to continue doing what he loved instead of going to
college; he began working for The Kansas City Star as a reporter where he began to develop his
unique writing style (Shuman, R. Baird 897). After the newspaper ran an article about the war,
Hemingway decided to enlist ( Hemingway, Ernest ). Hemingway was disappointed when he was
quickly rejected by the U.S. Army because of his poor eyesight; determined to help Hemingway
joined the Red Cross and was sent to the Italian Austrian front as an ambulance driver ( Ernest

Federal Government Expansion of Authority
Introduction The role of the institution has grown tremendously over the centuries ever since the
founders of the United States desired a Federal Government with limited powers whose aim was
primarily concerned with promoting the civil liberty of the Americans. According to Savage (2008),
during the reign of George Washington, the federal bureaucracy had only three cabinet
departments; however, the federal government has since grown not only to more than eight cabinet
departments, but also with other numerous bureaus, agencies, government authorities,
administrations, and corporations. Between the periods of independence and the civil war, the
federal government performed limited duties with regards to the daily lives of the American... Show

From this point on, the influence of the interest groups has been great within the political circles of
the occupants of the white house. Another example of the increasing expansion of the Federal
Government was evident in the passage of the Antitrust Act. Prior to the enactment of the Antitrust
Laws in 1890, the Federal Government had created the Interstate Commerce Commission in 1887
that was supposed to curtail the autonomy of the local and state governments in supervising
businesses (Holcombe, 1996). While these two laws were important in the Federal Government s
increased involvement in the daily lives of the American people, perhaps it was Sherman Antitrust
Act of 1890 that clearly demonstrated the increasing expansion of the federal authority in an
unprecedented way. The enactment of the Antitrust Act was prompted by the need to protect the
public from the exploitation of businesses and business owners. In other words, through the
Antitrust Act, the Federal Government hoped that it would limit the economic powers enjoyed by
businesses. While the enforcement of the laws may have taken a little longer (Holcombe, 1996),
the passage of the law in itself was a pointer that the

John Smith And Pocahontas Comparison
Love and compassion merely describes the surface of the story of Pocahontas. An individual
might only be able to see Disney s version, but upon further analysis, an individual can find that
the story is much more political and not as happy as it seems. In John Smith s account of
Pocahontas, Pocahontas is a woman who falls in love with him even against her father s warnings.
He was captured and supposed to be killed. This did not happen, as Pocahontasjumped in front of
Smith to save him. This is from the account of John Smith, and for generations, most of us have
watched the movie Pocahontas and fell for its plot. Deeper into the plot, it seems that Smith saves
Jamestown and the village in which Pocahontas resides in. Although John Smith is painted as a...

This event occurred in the early 1600 s, and as many stories are passed down, the content changes.
John Smith was a self promoter, and would lie in order to maintain his image. In fact, the story of
John Smith s romance with Pocahontas was fabricated simply because Smith wanted to maintain a
positive public identity. Smith was known to be an abrasive, ambitious, self promoting mercenary
soldier by his fellow colonists. Pocahontas s name meant the naughty one, and her real name was
Matoaka. She was simply named that because it fit in with Smith s account of Pocahontas.
According to Sally Jones, some contend that the Englishman probably made up the story after
reading previously published accounts of Ortiz s ordeal. Historians believe that Smith borrowed the
account of Juan Ortiz

Ethical And Legal Implications Of Making A Mistake Essay
Making a mistake is part of human character regardless of a person s career. While it is almost
probable that one will make mistakes in their place of work, it is the act of taking responsibility
for these mistakes that really counts. When one makes an error occurs in the course of writing a
drug prescription to a patient, he or she needs to consider the ethical and legal implications of
this act on the laws, for instance in Texas. One needs to carefully consider what the law says
about the resulting consequences of disclosure and non disclosure of the said error. Furthermore,
one should consider how the mistake will affect one s career as a nurse in the State, the health of
the patient and how the medical facility will also be affected. Many patients have suffered due to
medical errors and never get to know of such, this is due to the fear by the health professionals that
they might face a lawsuit if they admitted to these errors. In Texas, the State recognized that
medical errors are a reality and that by reporting them, they mitigate recurrence of these errors in
the hospitals. The State came up with a patient safety program through developing a medical
reporting program that was enacted into law on June, 20, 2003.The program mandates the reporting
of medical errors (adverse events) by all the hospitals, ambulatory surgical centers, and mental
hospitals in the State. The Texas Board of Nursing is mandated to regulate all nursing practices in
the State. Section 301. 010:

The Motif In Ray Bradbury s There Will Come Soft Rain
The motif in Ray Bradbury s There Will Come Soft Rains is rain itself. In the story the house has

itself, cook, and pay bills. Even when the family is gone, the house still acts as if they live there
still. The entire west face of the house was black, save for five places. Here the silhouette in paint
of a man... a woman... a small boy... a thrown ball... a girl, whose hands raised to catch a ball
which never came down. (324) The rainis one of the only things in the story that is not futuristic. Its
something one can still relate to. The motif, rain, is what brings us back to reality in a very

Rapper s American Dream
Written by John Legend and accompanied voice Chance the Rapper, Penthouse Floor describes
ascension of people from lower floors reaching the penthouse or higher floor. This concept evolved
from a single song about romance and the beauty of seeing the skyline from the penthouse, being
further developed along with Chance the Rapper s involvement. John Legend states, Both Chance
and I come from pretty humble backgrounds but our talent and music have allowed us to get into
rarefied air. John Legend understands how the American Dream has morphed with the addition of
Trump into the office, so he uses this song as a way to inspire others to rise from the cracks and

No longer keeping the chains of the past on the present populations, the club which was once
exclusive should be opened up for all to enter and behold. No longer should family members be
separated from each other or only some get the chance to ascend to that higher place. Like
Chance the Rapper mentioned, those lines are never ending in length and will provide no
outcome, since the control lies in the power of those who already have access to the American
Dream. And even when looking at the present day adaptation of the restrictive American Dream,
signs tell history s evolution hasn t progressed that far in that field since the time of slavery.
Langston Hughes poem said it best, It was never America to me . It was only ever America to the
ones who took advantage of the real hard working Americans and placed their own stamp and
name on it to take the credit. For that treatment back then, and the added pressures of modern day
society now, it requires those same mistreated, ill represented, and suffering people to speak out
against what they have experienced and to together rise up and make America become America for
everyone

The Characteristics Of The Mixing Patterns Are Determined...
According to Muysken, many of the characteristics of the mixing patterns are determined by the
structural features of language (Muysken, 2000; p. 2). Using the grammatical approach in analysing
CS, Muysken identifies three major categories of code mixing; insertion, alternation and congruent
lexicalization code mixing. Insertional involves the insertion of material (lexical items or entire
constituents) from one language into a structure from the other language and alternational CS
refers to alternation between structures from languages where two languages are present in the
same clause but remain relatively separate (ibid; p.3).
The distinction between insertion and alternation is paramount for the analysis of CS as it
analytically differentiates between different events of CS: one that involves only the use of one
main language where a foreign word is inserted into the structure or another where two grammatical
systems alternate in the construction of a single utterance.
In his work on analysing the patterns of CS, rather than presenting definite criteria for each of the
pattern, Muysken acknowledges that the differences between insertion and alternation are gradual
and can transition into each other (2000; p.10). However, he managed to identify several
environments where insertion or alternation is most likely to happen. In insertion, what is inserted
is a constituent: a constituent can be any syntactic unit, either a lexical item or a phrase. According

  • 3. How Is FIFA Corrupted The company of corruption I am talking about is FIFA. Their headquarters residing in ZГјrich, Switzerland, the company was founded on May 21st, 1904 in Paris by representatives from Denmark, France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Switzerland, and Sweden. The reason I claim this company being corrupted is vaguely obvious. From the looks of things, they seem to be the very definition of corruption. They are so corrupt, the ex vice president of the company (Jack Warner) could see a satirical article from the Onion and actually believe it to be something they d do. In fact, that s exactly what happened. If you look up on YouTube FIFA VP defends himself by quoting The Onion this claim is what you will find. There are many cases of FIFA s corruption... The current commissioner told him the city would break his spirit, and he wouldn t care about the citizens as much as he did when he joined. In a few short months, Theodore rose through the ranks, became the new commissioner, and fired the old one. He then routed out the corruption of the police department, by going out in a black cape and hat, and found slacking officers who were supposed to be on duty, and gave them what for. Even after a singular accusation that he was anti sematic, he hired enough officers to fill half a station that were Jewish. There was hardly anything this man couldn t do. His spirit was unbreakable, even after being quoted The light has gone from my life. when his wife and mother died the same day, he didn t let that get him down for too long. He named his child after his first wife, and found an old lover of his, and shortly after, they were married. In his later years, the man just couldn t have a lick of good luck, every time he tried to work out, to stay in an athlete s physical condition, life just kept beating the man down. Humorous Wedding Speech By The Father Of The Groom Ladies and gentlemen, faculty, family, and my fellow classmates of the class of 2018, today is nothing short of auspicious and I m ecstatic to share this milestone with all of you. Before I begin, I would like to thank those teachers who chose this modest speech among the outstanding collection of speeches submitted by my simply amazing peers. Although it is ironic that 99% of this class is older than me and I have been chosen to address the class and impart wisdom and reflection, I find it to be a great honor to deliver the T.C. Abbey Oration, and I promise I do not take it lightly. I have carefully chosen every word and phrase with an understanding of the responsibility bestowed on me. • 5. Randomized Control Trial Summary Peter Stalmans and associates143 conducted a randomized control trial. Its data support the finding that intravitreal injection of ocriplasmin leads to resolution of vitreomacular traction, induction of posterior vitreous detachment, and closure of a macular hole in some cases. The incidence of vitrectomy was lower among the patients who received ocriplasmin than among those who received placebo. A sham injection would have provided a better comparison with the natural history of the disease process than that provided by the group of patients who received a placebo, which was chosen to control for the effect of an intravitreal injection. The main visual symptom of vitreomacular traction and macular holes is decreased visual acuity. Although more... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Vitreous manipulation effected through intravitreal injection may occasionally result in a posterior vitreous detachment,213,214 in which case, the placebo injection of 0.1 ml may have induced some treatment response. The superior therapeutic effects of the ocriplasmin injection would then be indicative of an additional biologic effect of enzymatic vitreolysis over placebo. The applicability of this study is limited by the exclusion of patients with severe myopia, aphakia, proliferative diabetic retinopathy, or neovascular age related macular degeneration.215 Further studies will be needed to explore the effect of enzymatic vitreolysis in these diseases. In conclusion, the study shows that enzymatic vitreolysis represents a mean to resolve vitreomacular traction and to close macular holes. Intravitreal injection of ocriplasmin was superior to injection of placebo in altering the vitreoretinal interface of affected eyes, although it was accompanied by some, mainly transient, ocular adverse ... • 6. Heart Of Darkness By Joseph Conrad In Joseph Conrad s, Heart of Darkness one encounters the telling of Conrad s adventures on a steamship traveling up the Congo when numerous, drastic accountancies take place. During this Victorian age, men are seen as heroes and women are occupied by roles of domesticity, which ironically the story tells quite the opposite from these two ideals. Throughout the text, one will also learn from the imperialistic society that is set forth by the Europeans and the controversy that arises because of the social system within the home and civilization. This story is set up by a narrator, by the name of Marlow, who re telling the experiences that Conrad had and how various obstacles were overcome with he and his intended or fiancГ©. In Heart of Darkness, the main themes that are discussed and brought to light throughout the entire story are that of the hypocrisy behind the idea of Imperialism, the madness that surrounds the absurdity of evil, and the idea of the last encounter that Marlow has with Kurtz s intended and the irony that surrounds the circumstance. First, the issue at hand with Imperialism and the insincerity that surrounds it is baffling, as Marlow is traveling in and out of the many stations that neighbor the river he is on. Marlow is in awe, as he has to encounter and be a bystander of much torture, cruelty and a senseof slavery that these station workers possess and fight for on a daily basis, highly focusing on the Inner and Outer Station or Central Station. • 7. Sardono Essay The Physical Turn and Improvisation in the Seventies Cultural imperialism, in a form of New York s World Expo in 1964, stands on the background of this part of the story. A young Javanese dancer, Sardono W. Kusumo was a member of the Indonesian dancer contingent for the expo. Extending his stay in the city that had become an adopted home or, depending on your viewpoint, a thrift store of world culture, there he met another young Indonesian, just a couple years his senior, an emerging poet cum theatre artist by the name of Rendra. The following six months of his informal residency would be brief and memorable for Sardono and its significance to Indonesian performance field would continue to resonate until a few decades later. In 2003, I was involved in organizing a gathering of a hundred performance artists from all around Indonesia, a rare week of retreat for a convivial sharing, and workshop ... While the workshop s main contents were not new in their respective performance vocabulary, Sardono was illuminated by Erdman s ability to appropriate the approach with a contemporary framework that he found useful for developing a performance work. In the workshop, Erdman also introduced them to her principle approach of improvisation. It is important to note here that Rendra s introduction to the notion of improvisation as a modern theatre vocabulary might occurred earlier, especially during his time studying at the American Dramatic Arts. Nonetheless, Sardono underlines how Erdman taught her improvisation method systematically, which encouraged him to think more about abstraction, imagination, spatial contact and bodily deconstruction, as he would eventually develop as his working method in the seventies ... • 9. Similarities Between Liberalism And International Relations When looking at International Relations, there are two main political theories that tell us why countries function and work the way they do. Realism is a school of thought that defines international relations in terms of power, whereas Liberalism is a school of thought that argues that with the correct institutions, states can independently function resulting in growth and minimal conflict (Goldstein 43). While both theories have their strengths and weaknesses, truth and rationale lie behind both as well. Today s world politics are better defined by The seeds of Realism can be traced back to over 2,000 years ago when Chinese war strategist and philosopher Sun Tzu wrote The Art of War, advising military leaders how to survive in a period where war was rampant (Goldstein 43). It can also be seen in Thucydides The History of the Peloponnesian War, an account of the struggle for power between Athens and Sparta in the 4th century BC (Korab Karpowicz). In The History of the Peloponnesian WarThucydides questions whether or not power is crucial to the advancement of the city states, stating that the strong do what they have the power to do and the weak accept what they have to accept. (Goldstein 43). In the 1500 s, the idea of Realism is emphasized again when philosopher and writer Niccolo Machiavelli, who believed in manipulative power maneuvers and military alliances, was in favor of a political ruler that knows the end justifies the means . • 10. Distance Learning Disadvantages Looking at All Sides Distance learning is an emerging method of learning. Everyone can learn in every time at any location as long as they can access to Internet. I use distance learning as well. During the last summer vacation, I began to study how to play guitar by myself through some videos which is posted on the Internet by some professional guitarists. Now I have gotten the first level guitar certificate. The distance learning help me a lot. However, some people think distance learning is useless compared with traditional classroom. Though people have various opinions based on their experience, social roles and information from others, I still believe it is necessary to look at all sizes because it can strengthen our own opinions and reduce misunderstanding. Some of parents question about distance learning. They think distance learning is useless because it does not have supervisors like teachers. Students may be distracted by the relaxing environment at home and do not finish their homework on time. At the same time, some teachers also point out that distance learning is not as efficient as classroom because it cannot have a discussion and participation with peers and teachers. Without other students, they may lose the passion about study. What is more, Communication with others also an important lesson to students. By contrast, other students and office workers believe that distance learning can also be flexible for them. They can learn wherever ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For that very reason, we are extremely attracted to such art. Different genres attract diverse groups of people. Often it is easy to spark memories within our consciousness by listening to particular songs. For me personally, I have a bittersweet connection to the song, Keep Your Head Up, By Ben Howard because the lyrics provoke happiness and encouragement, a couple of traits I struggle with at times, yet the tune sparks beautiful memories with an estranged, beloved friend. My sophomoreyear of high schoolwas one of the hardest years I have ever been through, mentally and emotionally. Depression, lack of self esteem, and addiction had always affected my life in some way, whether it be through close family members or friends or within my own self. Through series of events, I found myself in a terrible place in life in my sophomore year of high school, and I had not the slightest clue how to solve it. At some points, I did not even really care to fix it. I struggled maintaining grades and maintaining relationships with my friends as well as my parents. I was simply not a pleasant person to be around, yet somehow, in all of this mess I called my life, someone special walked in, unexpectedly, and managed to spark a change within me. We were instant best friends. People assumed we had known each other since a young age, some even went to the extent of believing we ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As covered above, the Clerks Tale follows the abuse and test which Saluzzo enacts upon his wife Griselda. While Saluzzo is clearly of nobility and exercises the power conferred by that often and regularly, the steely resolve and good nature of Griselda demonstrates that while she is a commoner, she has much more Gentiless than her husband Saluzzo. The Franklin s Tale is a great exploration of trouthe conquering infidelity. When the husband of Dorigen is off seeking honor and fame, she is courted by Aurelius. It also has instructional value, to an extent, as it features the cheating Miller getting his comeuppance. I nominated the Friar s Tale fourth due to it s more dramatic nature. Many of the tales focus on mortals, while the Friar s tale features a demon as a main character. Similar to the Reeve s tale as well, the story features a villain, the summoner, being punished for his wrongdoing. I nominated the Pardoner s Tale third because it is interesting that the target of the moral preached by the tale, seems to be the same character telling it. The Pardoner tells of three young men who happen upon a large store of gold, and kill each other out of greed. This being while the Pardoner is one of the greediest characters in the Canterbury Tales. I nominated the Prioress s tale second as I felt it was the most dated tale in Canterbury tales. The blatant anti Semitism espoused in it makes it a rather interesting read, and it provides a good amount of instructional value on how to properly treat people in retrospect. • 16. The Big Sleep Movie And Book Comparison Essay In today s society, one thing that seems to bother people is the number of differences between a novel and the movie that inevitably follows the publication of that novel. The Big Sleep, written by Raymond Chandler, is one such novel that less than a decade after being written inspired the creation of a film, starring Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall, that contains a few interesting differences. According to John Dugdale in an article for The Guardian, Chandler created something never seen before with The Big Sleep. Chandler s main character, Philip Marlowe, is a new type of detective who represents someone who makes jokes and seems to be at ease with people of all standing, and the simple fact that Marlowe enjoys the company of women and women enjoy his company also sets him apart from the rest of the detectives of the time period (Dugdale). Despite the many similarities existing within the plot and characters such as Carmen Sternwood, a few key changes within the depiction of Detective Philip Marlowe differentiate the masterful novel written by Raymond Chandlerand the Howard Hawks film produced in 1946.... How are they different from each other? The similarity between Mohanty and Liederman is that they both talk about the underrepresented women. In Mohanty, these underrepresented women are the third world women and in Liederman, they are women who wear headscarf in France. Another similarity is that they both wrote about either them or some other culture belief in only one right religion/belief and anything else is wrong. For example, Mohanty belief that these third world women are oppressed because they do not go to school and have no education. Sen and Lieberman, both refer to the religion and culture as a willingness and not a force to the people. BrontГ« created Jane at the bottom of society; a female orphan at a half charity school. It is apparent as soon as the reader meets Jane Eyrefor the first time that Jane is low in status and has no choice or power of her situation. In the Victorian era, mostly men would have been reading it because most women in the Victorian era were not educated enough to read such a novel; BrontГ« replicates this by making most of her male characters rich and dominant. Additionally, BrontГ« may have written the book so men in the Victorian era can see how women were mistreated which promotes feminism. Unraveling the meaning of Kill the Indian, Save the Man There are so many different definitions of the word racism, but how does each peron define it? One individual, Richard Henry Pratt, clearly knew how to thoroughly define the word, Segregating any class or race of people apart from the rest of the people kills the progress of the segregated people or makes their growth very slow (Howard 2016). Unfortunately, we are still living in the repercussion of Pratt s word. The United States history is full of examples that have led to the ethnocentric development of the country. One of the most remote examples of this ethnocentric belief is displayed with the construction of off reservation boarding schools for Native Americans first started in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, by former general, Richard Henry Pratt. The purpose of the schools was to strip Native Americans of their cultural traditions and teach them the skills necessary to function in American Society. Pratt keyed this belief with the saying Kill the Indian, save the man, in order to justify his reasons to assimilate the Indians to the white culture. However, were the American Indians really forced to assimilate because society wanted to help them, or because they wanted America to be solely made of true Americans with American culture? How was the assimilation of the Indians satisfactory when it created cultural genocide? Having assimilated the Indian man did not save him, it merely replaced him. There is a ... Importance Of Self Assessment The Importance of Self Assessment Self assessment is an important aspect of teaching, as it allows the teacher to reflect upon the successfulness of the content of the lesson and the communication, along with the delivery of instruction and if each student s learning was successful. Looking at each of these individually, there are specific components that a teacher should look reflect on and assess. Some of the most important things to consider are if it is developmentally appropriate, that the objectives are sound and measurable, and that it is related to the student s experiences or knowledge. Determining if a lesson is developmentally appropriate is important as if it is not it can either leave students bored, too below standards, or confused, too above standards. Gene Kelly
Gene Kelly was the king of the musicals in the 1940s and 1950s. He was an American film actor and director who had an artistic, classical style of ballet techniques that transformed the film of musicals. He boldly blended dance solos, mass movements and offbeat camera angels to tell a story in visual terms. Not only did Kelly direct and act in the most famous films, he also worked behind the scenes, breaking the ground with his choreography and establishment. Kelly also landed a lead role of the musical Pal Joey. John Martin in the New York Times writes about his performance: It was appealing to be able to use the character to control the audience... if Kelly were to be evaluated exclusively by his performance of dance routines, he still would be a good dancer... a tap dancer who can illustrate his own routines and turn them into an integral element of imaginative theatrical is to unique. Louis B Mayer, an MGM executive, caught Kelly s excellent performance and offered Kelly a movie contract with them.

He has come to his prominence slowly through a careful building up of a body of work, a composition displaying greater insight, range of power, with each new novel. Since his appearance on the literary scene in the midforties, Saul Bellow, recipient of the 1976 Nobel Prize for literature, has left his mark on the international literary world. He is one the few contemporary authors who has been able to sustain the interest and dominate the field of academic and scholarly inquiry for over four decades. His fiction typically addresses the meaning of human existence in an increasingly aloof and world of mechanism. Alexander the Great was overlapped by a half a mile from each side which made it possible for Darius s cavalry to go from both sides. This quote, recorded by Richard Hartley Kennedy, a 19th century British surgeon living in British India exemplifies the almost macabre fascination with the Hindu rite of widow burning known as Sati that the Western World has developed over the course of the last several hundred years. Perhaps, this morbid obsession originated with the Western World seeing in Sati a Romeo and Juliette like expression of true love. Subsequently, the West s fascination can perhaps be credited to the ensuing human rights controversy that this rite has generated over the course of the past two hundred years. Regardless as to the reason of why the West has taken an interest in this rite, I will attempt in this paper to decipher and interpret this ritual mostly through the lens of a Western philosopher of religion, Mircea Eliade. • 50. Literary Analysis Of Cormac Mccarthy s The Road In recent decades, Cormac McCarthy has staked his claim as one of the all time titans of American literature through publishing masterpieces like Blood Meridian, Suttree, and The Road. In his works his advanced level of technical mastery becomes apparent through his expertly harmonized coordination of literary elements toward certain narrative ends, such as the generation of suspense. In this light, McCarthy s literary styleis a practical one, in that he organizes literary elements in his works toward actualizing particular goals. In The Road, for instance, McCarthy directs his style throughout the text so as to maximize the feeling of suspense that readers experience throughout the book. This kind of stylistic maneuvering is expressed on pages 105 110 and pages 118 123 of the the text. But, it must be noted here that the generation of suspense in these passages does not result from similar stylistic approaches. McCarthy uses style in differently in Passage A and Passage B but ultimately toward the same end, namely generating suspense for readers of The Road. Passage A relies on dialogue to develop its suspense, whereas the style of Passage B relies on narrative action for its suspense. In Passage A, McCarthy uses ambiguous and foreboding dialogue in order to generate narrative suspense. His life was not ordinary by any means; he became the voice of his generation with his poignant works capturing the emotions of the American people after World War I. In his novel A Farewell to Arms Ernest Hemingwayattempts to demonstrate through the characters of Frederic Henry and Rinaldi the feelings of horror and disillusionment the people of the Modern era tried to escape. Ernest Miller Hemingway was born on July 21, 1899, in the suburbs of Chicago to a middle class family. As the oldest of six children, Hemingway was very close with his mother even though he often disagreed with her values (Shuman, R. Baird 897). Hemingway s passion for the outdoors was instilled in him at a young age when his family would spend summers in the woods of northern Michigan ( Hemingway, Ernest ). After graduating from Oak Park High School in 1917, Hemingway decided to continue doing what he loved instead of going to college; he began working for The Kansas City Star as a reporter where he began to develop his unique writing style (Shuman, R. Baird 897). After the newspaper ran an article about the war, Hemingway decided to enlist ( Hemingway, Ernest ). Hemingway was disappointed when he was quickly rejected by the U.S. Army because of his poor eyesight; determined to help Hemingway joined the Red Cross and was sent to the Italian Austrian front as an ambulance driver ( Ernest ... • 52. Federal Government Expansion of Authority Introduction The role of the institution has grown tremendously over the centuries ever since the founders of the United States desired a Federal Government with limited powers whose aim was primarily concerned with promoting the civil liberty of the Americans. According to Savage (2008), during the reign of George Washington, the federal bureaucracy had only three cabinet departments; however, the federal government has since grown not only to more than eight cabinet departments, but also with other numerous bureaus, agencies, government authorities, administrations, and corporations. Between the periods of independence and the civil war, the federal government performed limited duties with regards to the daily lives of the American... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From this point on, the influence of the interest groups has been great within the political circles of the occupants of the white house. Another example of the increasing expansion of the Federal Government was evident in the passage of the Antitrust Act. Prior to the enactment of the Antitrust Laws in 1890, the Federal Government had created the Interstate Commerce Commission in 1887 that was supposed to curtail the autonomy of the local and state governments in supervising businesses (Holcombe, 1996). While these two laws were important in the Federal Government s increased involvement in the daily lives of the American people, perhaps it was Sherman Antitrust Act of 1890 that clearly demonstrated the increasing expansion of the federal authority in an unprecedented way. The enactment of the Antitrust Act was prompted by the need to protect the public from the exploitation of businesses and business owners. In other words, through the Antitrust Act, the Federal Government hoped that it would limit the economic powers enjoyed by businesses. While the enforcement of the laws may have taken a little longer (Holcombe, 1996), the passage of the law in itself was a pointer that the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 53. John Smith And Pocahontas Comparison Love and compassion merely describes the surface of the story of Pocahontas. An individual might only be able to see Disney s version, but upon further analysis, an individual can find that the story is much more political and not as happy as it seems. In John Smith s account of Pocahontas, Pocahontas is a woman who falls in love with him even against her father s warnings. He was captured and supposed to be killed. This did not happen, as Pocahontasjumped in front of Smith to save him. This is from the account of John Smith, and for generations, most of us have watched the movie Pocahontas and fell for its plot. Deeper into the plot, it seems that Smith saves Jamestown and the village in which Pocahontas resides in. Although John Smith is painted as a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This event occurred in the early 1600 s, and as many stories are passed down, the content changes. John Smith was a self promoter, and would lie in order to maintain his image. In fact, the story of John Smith s romance with Pocahontas was fabricated simply because Smith wanted to maintain a positive public identity. Smith was known to be an abrasive, ambitious, self promoting mercenary soldier by his fellow colonists. Pocahontas s name meant the naughty one, and her real name was Matoaka. She was simply named that because it fit in with Smith s account of Pocahontas. According to Sally Jones, some contend that the Englishman probably made up the story after reading previously published accounts of Ortiz s ordeal. Historians believe that Smith borrowed the account of Juan Ortiz ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 54. Ethical And Legal Implications Of Making A Mistake Essay Making a mistake is part of human character regardless of a person s career. While it is almost probable that one will make mistakes in their place of work, it is the act of taking responsibility for these mistakes that really counts. When one makes an error occurs in the course of writing a drug prescription to a patient, he or she needs to consider the ethical and legal implications of this act on the laws, for instance in Texas. One needs to carefully consider what the law says about the resulting consequences of disclosure and non disclosure of the said error. Furthermore, one should consider how the mistake will affect one s career as a nurse in the State, the health of the patient and how the medical facility will also be affected. Many patients have suffered due to medical errors and never get to know of such, this is due to the fear by the health professionals that they might face a lawsuit if they admitted to these errors. In Texas, the State recognized that medical errors are a reality and that by reporting them, they mitigate recurrence of these errors in the hospitals. The State came up with a patient safety program through developing a medical reporting program that was enacted into law on June, 20, 2003.The program mandates the reporting of medical errors (adverse events) by all the hospitals, ambulatory surgical centers, and mental hospitals in the State. The Texas Board of Nursing is mandated to regulate all nursing practices in the State. Section 301. 010: ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 55. The Motif In Ray Bradbury s There Will Come Soft Rain The motif in Ray Bradbury s There Will Come Soft Rains is rain itself. In the story the house has come to life. The technology has taken over humanity in American culture. The house can clean itself, cook, and pay bills. Even when the family is gone, the house still acts as if they live there still. The entire west face of the house was black, save for five places. Here the silhouette in paint of a man... a woman... a small boy... a thrown ball... a girl, whose hands raised to catch a ball which never came down. • 56. Rapper s American Dream Written by John Legend and accompanied voice Chance the Rapper, Penthouse Floor describes ascension of people from lower floors reaching the penthouse or higher floor. This concept evolved from a single song about romance and the beauty of seeing the skyline from the penthouse, being further developed along with Chance the Rapper s involvement. John Legend states, Both Chance and I come from pretty humble backgrounds but our talent and music have allowed us to get into rarefied air. John Legend understands how the American Dream has morphed with the addition of Trump into the office, so he uses this song as a way to inspire others to rise from the cracks and altogether try to make the American Dream more inclusive for everyone. The music... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... No longer keeping the chains of the past on the present populations, the club which was once exclusive should be opened up for all to enter and behold. No longer should family members be separated from each other or only some get the chance to ascend to that higher place. Like Chance the Rapper mentioned, those lines are never ending in length and will provide no outcome, since the control lies in the power of those who already have access to the American Dream. And even when looking at the present day adaptation of the restrictive American Dream, signs tell history s evolution hasn t progressed that far in that field since the time of slavery. Langston Hughes poem said it best, It was never America to me . It was only ever America to the ones who took advantage of the real hard working Americans and placed their own stamp and name on it to take the credit. For that treatment back then, and the added pressures of modern day society now, it requires those same mistreated, ill represented, and suffering people to speak out against what they have experienced and to together rise up and make America become America for everyone ... • 57. The Characteristics Of The Mixing Patterns Are Determined... According to Muysken, many of the characteristics of the mixing patterns are determined by the structural features of language (Muysken, 2000; p. 2). Using the grammatical approach in analysing CS, Muysken identifies three major categories of code mixing; insertion, alternation and congruent lexicalization code mixing. Insertional involves the insertion of material (lexical items or entire constituents) from one language into a structure from the other language and alternational CS refers to alternation between structures from languages where two languages are present in the same clause but remain relatively separate (ibid; p.3). The distinction between insertion and alternation is paramount for the analysis of CS as it analytically differentiates between different events of CS: one that involves only the use of one main language where a foreign word is inserted into the structure or another where two grammatical systems alternate in the construction of a single utterance. In his work on analysing the patterns of CS, rather than presenting definite criteria for each of the pattern, Muysken acknowledges that the differences between insertion and alternation are gradual and can transition into each other (2000; p.10). However, he managed to identify several environments where insertion or alternation is most likely to happen. In insertion, what is inserted is a constituent: a constituent can be any syntactic unit, either a lexical item or a phrase. According to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
