The document discusses women's empowerment in India. It defines women's empowerment as accepting women into the decision making process and raising their status through education, awareness, and training. Women's empowerment is important for a country's development by enhancing human resources. In India, women's empowerment depends on location, education, socioeconomic status, and age, though policies exist, implementation lags. Education is key to empowerment by enabling women to confront traditional roles. The status of women has improved in modern India through cultural and structural changes, and women now participate in all fields, though disparities remain between policy and reality.

The main objective of this study was to examine the contribution of women empowerment towards development in Rwanda, using Duhaguruke/Kora cooperative as a case study. The following were the specific objectives; investigate how economic activities contribute to women empowerment, explore challenges to the effective women empowerment and propose the solutions to those challenges. Data were collected from 93 respondents using questionnaires, group discussions and interviews. The cluster sampling method and simple random sampling methods were used. Findings revealed that economic activities empower women in community and they can contribute to the socio-economic development by educating their children, establishing businesses and paying taxes, paying health insurance for the family members, influence the family welfare, participation in decision making at local level through incomes from their jobs and employment. High fertility rate and gender inequalities within households were revealed as the most challenges to the effective women empowerment, other challenges observed were low education level and lack of professionalism, irresponsibility of men which affect negatively the loans management for women. Solutions suggested by participants were low fertility rate and gender equality within the family, women's education and participation in women's associations, legal marriage and greater access to credits.

Economic Contribution of Women in Self Help Groups: Village Level Evidence fr...iosrjce
Women in Self Help Groups (SHGs) have made their mark in the rural economy in a quite nontraditional
way. This paper examines the economic contribution of SHG women drawing on a field survey
conducted in 20 villages by canvassing a structured schedule among 150 sample respondents of two blocks of
Balasore district in Odisha, India. The findings show that women in SHG’s have made a significantly positive
contribution to employment, income, expenditure and saving at the household level. An increase in the demand
for SHG products is required for improving productivity of women and enhancing their economic contribution
in a sustainable way. A reorientation in policy is suggested for generating awareness, upgrading skills and
expanding markets in order to augment their contribution and raise their empowerment level for the benefit of
the households as well as for transforming the rural economy in a big way.
The Changing Behavior of Society towards Women Empowerment project aims to ignite a spark of introspection, empathy, and commitment within society. It calls upon individuals, institutions, and communities to challenge biases, break down barriers, and actively contribute to a more equitable and just world. By collectively embracing women's empowerment, we can unlock untapped potential, drive sustainable development, and build a future where every woman has the opportunity to thrive and contribute to society's progress.
The project will curate a wide range of resources, including research studies, personal narratives, expert opinions, and interactive forums, to foster meaningful conversations and knowledge-sharing. It will emphasize the importance of education, access to healthcare, economic opportunities, and political representation as crucial pillars for achieving gender equality.
Furthermore, the initiative will actively engage with policymakers, community leaders, and influencers to advocate for legislative reforms and policy interventions that address gender disparities. By partnering with organizations and initiatives working towards women empowerment, it seeks to facilitate collaboration, knowledge exchange, and collective action.

A study onwomenentrepreneurshipinharyanatheirdevelopmentandmainconstraintsAnuragSingh1049
Increased female entrepreneurial activity heralds a progress for women’s rights and optimization of their economic and social living index. Women entrepreneurship is synonymous with women empowerment. Parallel to the male counterparts, female entrepreneurs are catalytic in job creation, innovation and more than tangible contribution to the GNP of the country. An economy thrives when women get a level playing field as men. Innovation works as a catalyst or an instrument for Entrepreneurship. Indian Women, despite all the social hurdles stand tall from the rest of the crowd and are applauded for their achievements in their respective field. The transformation of social fabric of the Indian society, in terms of increased educational status of women and varied aspirations for better living, necessitated a change in the life style of Indian women. This paper endeavors to explore studies related to Women Entrepreneurship and Innovation in India. Few examples from Haryana, India have been taken to understand the study in a better way.
Quality of Work Life of Women Employee Problems in Banking Sector: A Study in...IJAEMSJORNAL
Indian Banking Industry which is more than a century, passed through many phases in the last 100 years like social control, nationalization, liberalization, privatization, globalization and finally computerization. To keep the pace with the competitiveness derived from the above changes the banking industry, which is the area of concern being manpower intensive, must consider the role of human resource as the most significant key to enhance the profitability, efficiency and overall organizational effectiveness. Women working and earning something is a part of a modern phenomenon, but even now a day’s majority of the women have been challenged by inequality in the workforce. A women worker obviously plays a double role, the traditional feminine role of a house wife or mother or daughter and that of a worker. With the multiplicity of roles her behaviour becomes complex in terms of expected and actual conduct, and she faces a lot of confusion with regard to her role and status. The two roles might sometimes lead to a conflict, which is reflected in many ways in her life.
IMPACT ANALYSIS OF WELFARE SCHEMES OF WOMEN’S EMPOWERMENT: WITH REFERENCE TO ...IAEME Publication
Empowerment of women essentially mean improving the social, political and
economic status of women, especially the traditional underprivileged one. It means
creating an environment where women are free from any kind of physical, mental
abuse, exploitation, and prejudice that they are the most vulnerable section in the
society. Recognising the importance of women in the economic growth of the nation,
the Government of India along with State Governments has been taking several efforts
since post-independence period to uplift women from their conditions in general.
Attempts were made by the Government to address the issues through employment,
empowerment, labour force participation, education, gender equality and
entrepreneurship. The focus of Government is progressively shifting towards
promoting women entrepreneurship to motivate women to participate in the economic
activities. The study examines the perspective of women who are getting benefitted
through various government schemes implemented in assistance with nongovernmental organizations. The impact observed is in terms of such as - financial
assistance, training facilities, infrastructure and its awareness, motivation,
confidence, increase in the rate of women opting for entrepreneurship. Studies have
shown that such initiatives are boosting self-confidence, increasing the purchasing
power and decision making power, leading to their empowerment. It, therefore,
addresses the economic, socio-cultural, inter-personal, psychological, political and
legal domains of empowerment. The study has been conducted in three selected
village of Maharashtra. Data was collected from various NGO, Women entrepreneurs
and women beneficiaries associated with various Self-Help Group’s (SHG’s) in the
Kanave, Shahapur (Dist. Thane) and Vengaon, Karjat (Dist. Raigad) regions. The
Mixed method approach has been adopted for analysis of this research. Primary data
was collected from personal interviews with well-structured questionnaires and focus
group discussions in both the areas.

The financial theory of investment has been developed by James Duesenberry.
It is also known as the cost of capital theory of investment. The accelerator theories ignore the role of cost of capital in the investment decision by the firm.
They assume that the market rate of interest represents the cost of capital to the firm which does not change the amount of investment it makes. It means that unlimited funds are available to the firm at the market rate of interest. In other words, the supply of funds to the firm is very elastic. In reality, an unlimited supply of funds is not available to the firm in any time period at the market rate of interest.
As more and more funds are required by it for investment spending, the cost of funds (rate of interest) rises.
To finance investment spending, the firm may borrow in the market at whatever interest rate funds are available.
International economics deals with the economic relations among nations. The resulting interdependence is very important to the economic well-being of most nations of the world and is on the increase. The economic relations among nations differ from the economic relations among the various part of a nation. This gives rise to different problems, requiring somewhat different tools of analysis, and justifies International Economics as a distinct and separate branch of “Applied” Economics.
International economics deals with
1) The Pure Theory of Trade. This examines the basis for trade and the gains from trade.
2) The Theory of Commercial Policy. This studies the reasons for and the results of obstructions to the free flow of trade.
3) The Balance of Payments. This examines a nation’s total payments to and total receipts from the rest of the world. These involve the exchange of one currency with others.
4) Adjustment in the Balance of Payments. This deals with the mechanism of adjustment to balance of payments disequilibria under different international monetary systems.
The Major reason for the people’s demand for money is that it is needed in any economy in which almost every person and firm sells goods and services for money and in turn uses money to buy the goods and services offered by others. Functionally this amount of money used as a medium of exchange. Classical theory explained the demand for money as essentially a demand resulting from this need for money as medium of exchange.
In Keynesian theory, money becomes much more than a medium of exchange, much more than a medium of exchange, much more than a device for meeting transactions in the marketplace. People also demand money for speculative purposes and as security against unforeseen needs for cash reserves. The break down of the demand for money into transactions and precautionary and speculative demands plays a vital part in the theory of Keynes.
The trade cycle refers to the ups and downs in the level of economic activity which extends over a period of several years. If we examine the past statistical record of the business conditions, we will find that business has never run smoothly forever. There are many fluctuations in the period. Sometimes prosperity is followed by adversely. In Economics this tendency of the business activities, to fluctuate from prosperity to adversely is called business cycle.
Prof. Keynes says: " A trade cycle is composed of periods of bad trade characterized by falling prices and high unemployment percentages while a period of a good trade is characterized by rising prices and high employment, percentages."
Paul H. Douglas, Professor at the University of Chicago introduced the production function in 1934. Another prominent economist Robert Solow has also conducted extensive research and found out how the technological progress has improved the productivity of inputs, viz., capital and labour in America.
In modern terminology, the various factors like land, labour, capital, organization skill, raw materials and other factors made use of in production are given a wider connotation called inputs. The product realized due to the inputs is called output. Inputs indicate the cost involved in procuring various factors, commodities as raw materials, power, etc., while output indicates the goods and services produced. Production is a process in which the physical inputs are transformed into physical output. The output is thus the function of inputs. The functional relationship between physical inputs and physical outputs of a firm is known as a production function. The production function is a catalogue of output possibilities.
Among several laws of production, the law of Diminishing Returns is the oldest and universal law. This law establishes a relationship between input and output and points out that with increasing input, output has a tendency to decline under certain circumstances. The classical economists associated the law of Diminishing Returns with agriculture as they thought that this law manifested in agriculture as they thought that this law manifested in agriculture (land).
Economists agree that supply means the commodity offered for sale at a price. In other words, supply refers to total supply offered for sale at a price to retailers and wholesalers. Sometimes the term market supply is used to denote the supply of perishable commodities with retailers only.
Break-even analysis is a study of costs, revenues and sales of a firm and find out the volume of sales where the firm’s costs and revenues will be equal. The Break-even point is the zone of no-profit and no-loss as the costs equal revenues.
Demand forecasting is essential for a firm to enable it to produce the required quantities at the right time and proper arrangements of all factors of production (Land, Labour, Capital, and Organisation). Demand Forecasting helps a firm to assess the probable demand for its products and plan its production accordingly.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.
We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.

This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.

empowerment means accepting and allowing people
(women) who are on the outside of the decision-making
process into it.
◦ Women’s empowerment is the most crucial point to be
noted for the overall development of a country.
◦ Women Empowerment includes the action of raising the
status of women through education, raising awareness,
literacy, and training. Women's empowerment is all about
equipping and allowing women to make life-determining
decisions through the different problems in society.

◦ Empowerment of women is a necessity for the
very development of a society, since it enhances
both the quality and the quantity of human
resources available for development.
◦ Women's empowerment and
achieving gender equality is essential for the
society to ensure the sustainable development of
the country.

7. Need for Women
Empowerment in
India
◦ Women’s empowerment in India is heavily
dependent on many different variables that
include
◦ Geographical location (urban/rural),
◦ Educational status,
◦ Social status (caste and class), and
◦ Age.
◦ Policies on women’s empowerment exist at the
national, state, and local (Panchayat) levels in
many sectors, which includes
◦ Health,
◦ Education,
◦ Economic opportunities,
◦ Gender-based violence, and
◦ Political participation.
◦ However, there are significant gaps between
policy advancements and actual practice at the
community level.

8. Geographical
Location and
Women’s
empowerment in
India
◦ Worker Population Ratio for females is higher
in rural areas (24.8%) than urban areas
(14.7%). For males, the ratios in rural and
urban areas are 54.3% and 54.6%
respectively.
◦ Thus, considerable gender gap exists in both
rural and urban areas and the gap is higher in
urban areas.
◦ The average wage/ salary received per day by
regular wage/salaried employees of age 15-59
years for females is rural: Rs.201.56 and
urban: Rs.366.15 which is lower than that of
males (rural: Rs.322.28, urban: Rs.469.87) in
both rural and urban areas and the gap is
more in rural areas.
◦ Unemployment Rate (UR) is more for females
in both rural and urban areas with the gap very
wide for the urban

9. Education and Women’s empowerment in India
◦ As per the 2011 censes the literacy rate of women is lesser than male literacy rate (82 : 65).
Inspire of being aware of her position, women can't transform the situation due to lack of
education. Therefore, women's empowerment can't be effected unless we persuade the
importance of women's education.
◦ Education as means of empowerment of women can bring about a positive attitudinal change.
It is therefore, crucial for the socioeconomic and political progress of India.
◦ Education is milestone of women empowerment because it enables them to responds to the
challenges, to confront their traditional role and change their life.
◦ Women who have attained secondary or higher education are more empowered as compared to
uneducated women. Educated women are more likely to marry later and also more likely to
have higher agency in their lives.
◦ Women who work for cash have high empowered as compared to those who have not
participate any kind of work .
◦ As a result of higher participation of women in literacy campaigns, the gender gap in literacy
levels is gradually getting reduced.
◦ The education of women is the most powerful tool to change the position of society.
Education also brings a reduction in inequalities and functions as a means of improving their
status within the family.

10. Socio-Economic
Status and
Women’s
empowerment in
India
◦ Gender discrimination in India affects poor women’s socio-economic
development.
◦ Many attempts have been made in India to increase women’s socio-
economic status.
◦ Critics argue that income generation alone does not increase the
economic equality of women in India Amartya Sen (1999) argued that
economic discrimination is a much “broader concept” (p. 108) than
economic status and a complex relationship exists between culture and
economic status of poor women in India.
◦ Socio-economic forces combine to greatly influence the development of
poor women in India. Given that culture permeates all aspects of life in
India, a critical cultural and feminist perspective may enhance
understanding of the complex nature of economic development.
◦ A common perception about women in India is that their status has
always been low compared with women in advanced countries.
◦ Contemporary Indian culture reflects a strong connection to its ancient
history. India’s past provides insights to the current status of Indian
women in society (Masani, 1973). An ancient text from approximately
1,500-1,000 B.C. called the Rigveda, imparted written evidence of the
status of Indian women.
◦ In addition, archaeological, sculptural, and artistic findings revealed the
nature of Indian women’s lives in ancient India (Seth, 2001). The Vedic
culture believed that men and women were created as equals. 10

11. Demographic Factors and
Women Empowerment in India
◦ Women get a position in household and family because older women have
more empowered as compared to younger women. So, Women’s age is an
important factor in India.
◦ Urban women and, in particular, urban educated women enjoy relatively
higher access to economic opportunities, health and education and experience
less domestic violence.
◦ Women (both urban and rural) with education have higher chance of decision
making in the household and the community.
◦ Women with more years of marital duration are much more likely to spend
their various efforts, workforce participation and income on their own needs,
age at marriage in India is better than other South Asian countries viz., Nepal
and Bangladesh.
◦ So, it has an impact on empowerment in Nepal and Bangladesh more as
compared to India.

13. Status of Women in Modern India
◦ Revolutionary changes has taken place in the status of Indian
women after independence.
◦ Cultural and Structural changes reduce exploitation of
women to a great extent and provide equality of
opportunities to women in various fields.
◦ The women have left the secured domain of their home and
are now in the battle field of life, fully armored with their
talent.
◦ Now, there is no arena which remained unconquered by
Indian women. Female activists also united over issues as
female infanticide, gender bias, women’s health, women’s
safety and women’s literacy.

14. Status of Women in Modern
India (Contd …)
◦ In 1966, Indira Gandhi becomes the first- women Prime Minister of India
and served on that post for an aggregate period of fifteen years and becomes
the worlds’ longest serving women Prime Minister.
◦ Kiran Bedi, Bachendri Pal, Kiran Majumdar, Kalpana Chawala, Meira Kumar,
Pratibha Patil etc. are those names from different fields which set examples for
others.
◦ Along with being achievers, women of modern India are fulfilling their roles as
wives and mothers.
◦ Women are now regularly performing duties that are traditionally assigned to
males. The income of one man is no longer enough in the modern expensive
culture, so fluctuations in the economy have made it necessary for a woman to
obtain a career, in order to provide the essential funds to support and maintain
the family.
Dr. M.Madhavan, Assistant Professor, PG & Research Department of Economics, AAGAC, Namakkal 14
15. Status of Women in Modern
India (Contd …)
◦ In the 1990s, grants from foreign donor agencies enabled
the formation of new women oriented NGOS. Self help
groups and NGOS such as self Employed Women’s
Association (SEWA) have played a major role in the
advancement of women’s status in India.
◦ Many Women have emerged as leaders of local movements,
for example, Medha Patkar of the Narmada Bachan
Andolan. Indira Noye a very successful busines women in
the world. Jayalaitha the Iron lady of Tamil Nadu made a
notable contribution in the development of the state.
◦ Women are actively participating in the democratic process
and elections which is quite impressive in enhancing their
Status.
◦ Today modern women in India are entering into all kind of
professions like engineering, medicine, politics, teaching etc.
They are joining the universities and colleges in large
numbers. In fact, India has the largest population of
working women in the world, and has more numbers of
doctors, Surgeons, Professors than the United States.
