Wireless Network Presentation
IntroductionDuring this presentation I am going to address 9 major points of how a WLAN will benefit the company
MobilityIs the primary advantage of wireless technology. Having this freedom of being able to move around without wires being connected.
Ease and Cost of InstallationThe need to have to run cables through walls and ceilings is eliminated with a Wireless LAN.
Easier Network Modifications
Increased Network ReliabilityOne of the most common network problems is having cable failures.
Speedier Disaster RecoveryIf primary operations go down, having a WLAN makes life easier. Allowing ability for network to be up and running so fast without business being significantly disturbed.
Radio Signal InterferenceWireless devices operate in the same radio frequency as other devices. Signals from other devices can disrupt wireless transmissions, or a WLAN device can interfere with other devices.
SecurityThe wireless signal is broadcast in open air making security a big concern. Security has improved for WLAN but it remains a major issue and must be properly addressed.
Other Disadvantage of WLANBeing a Health Risk is a ongoing issue. Wireless devices emit low levels of RF. It is a know fact that high levels of RF with heating effects can cause biological damage.
Advantages of Wireless LAN over DisadvantagesWith the three disadvantages named two of them are easily addressed. Making the advantages of WLAN more stronger.

Editor's Notes

  • #2 Pickup Packages needs a WLAN,which will give company ability to run a smooth orderly operation out of there new office building.
  • #3 We will talk about mobility, ease and cost of installation, easier network modifications, increased network reliability, speedier disaster recovery, radio signal interference, security, other disadvantages, and advantages of WLAN over wired LAN.
  • #4 Within this WLAN employees can use laptops and connect to network anywhere within office building. Employees can even go outside around building and still connect to network. Employees can be within 375ft circular radius from wireless access point in building and still connect to network.
  • #5 The company does not have to pay for all of this cabling, and wait for somebody to install it.Which can take a lot of time and disrupt business operations.
  • #6 No longer do you have to remodel office making sure people who need to use computers are set up next to a wall jack. Instead focus can be more on making work environment more effective for employees.
  • #7 With WLAN company has no need to be concern about breaks within cabling, bad splicing of cabling at a network connection, or a liquid getting on exposed cabling.
  • #8 All the company need in disaster is to have laptops with wireless nic cards, access point devices, and backup servers in reserved. After disaster hits, laptops need to be dispersed, and access points set up quickly.
  • #9 Other devices that can cause transmission errors or completely stop transmission are as follows: Microwave ovens, elevator motors, photocopying machines, certain types of outdoor lighting, theft protection devices, and cordless phones.
  • #10 There are four major security challenges. Unauthorized users access company network. Attackers being able to view private transmitted data. Employees installing rogue access points, allow a attacker to bypass company’s security implemented. Attackers being able to easily crack a lot of existing wireless networks now.
  • #11 A microwave oven cooking food is a example of high level of RF with heating effects. As of now being around low levels of RF constantly has not be proven to be absolutely safe or that it is unsafe. This is currently a ongoing scientific study.
  • #12 To stop radio interference all that is needed is to relocate wireless device. With RF being a health risk no study has revealed health problems associated with human body absorbing low levels of RF energy.
  • #13 As you can see at the end of the day wireless is better to have then wired technology at this present time.
