Richard Blanco s New Identity
Richard Blanco s diverse background makes him relatable for people of multinational upbringings.
His writing thoroughly appealed to me because he did such a good job capturing the emotions of a
child coming into a new world. Having experienced that, I wanted to see if I could have that effect on
people. I used some of the techniques that Blanco uses, in my poem New Identity , to familiarize the
reader with what he has been through. Richard Blanco accustoms the reader to his experiences by
using figurative language, diverse diction, and allusions. First of all, Richard Blanco s poems are
loaded with figurative language: mostly metaphors and similes. One reason he uses his figurative
language is to help the reader visualize the setting. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The way he used words from another language really showed the cultural mix in him. For example in
his poem America , he uses Spanish word like Mercado (line 17) or Tía (Line 1) that even if the reader
is not a Spanish speaker, the reader could probably figure out. I could not do that with my language
because we have an entirely different alphabet that most readers are not familiar with. Therefore, I had
to write the words in my language using the English alphabet. For example on line 6 of my poem, I
use the word Jannah which means paradise in Arabic. I specifically used Arabic words that were
religious to show the tight bond between my culture and my religion. Richard also uses specific words
to help readers read in between the lines. For example, Richard Blanco said in his poem America,
Prepared the poor fowl (line 58). When he said poor fowl, it gave the impression that the grandmother
did not like having to prepare the turkey and wishes she did not have to do it. I used diction in my
poem in this way in my poem when I said; Warm hugs from my begetters (line 8). I used the word
begetters, which gives the impression that my parents and I were not close which the case was. By
analyzing Blanco s use of diction, I enhanced my poem by mimicking his

Essay On Why I Decided To Re-Enlist
To fulfill is to bring something to an end;i want to live and with other soldiers and fulfill this war.
Soldiers are surprisingly healthy. In February 1778 they had about 8,000 soldiers. I have decided to re
enlist for three reasons which are, some soldiers are healthy, more honor, and they needed more
soldiers. In the background information it says that at Trenton and Princeton we won. Soldiers used to
desert their army and now they need more people. Huts that were at their camping place were only
homes for 6 months. Washington also built a village at valley forge. To desert is to leave without
telling or asking and nobody knows it. One reason I will re enlist is because some soldiers are healthy.

Five Congress Committee was there to help the sick and healthy. At the encampment in February on
the 1st of 1778 3,989 were sick. My army needed more healthy soldiers and I will re enlist to help out.
My reason is causing me to re enlist because they need more healthy soldiers. On the other hand, some
soldiers say they are not re enlisting because it was cold at night. Their point of view makes sense
because of no meat, no meat (dr. waldo). However i m re enlisting because some soldiers are healthy; I
want to also be honored and they need more men to help with the war. Therefore there are more
reasons to re enlist, they are, that some soldiers are still healthy there is more honor, and they need
more men. I have decided to re enlist for three reasons which are healthy soldiers, more honor, and
more men. Not all, but some soldiers are sick meaning they need more men and I will get more honor.
As a reader, you should put yourself in this place and be willing to help others by

Oppression In Toni Morrison s Short Story Sweetness By...
Oppression is at the root of many of the most serious, enduring conflicts in the world today. Toni
Morrison s short story Sweetness articulated her view on oppression more effectively than the song
Alright by Kendrick Lamar because she used anecdote and metaphor to justify her position. This made
the readers aware of the personal issues she went through. Sweetness elaborates on her view regarding
race because of the personal stories about a mother and the issues she had with her daughter. Morrison
s parents moved to Ohio from the South, hoping to raise their children in an environment friendlier to
blacks. This wasn t the case when she grew up, married her white husband and got a child. In his eyes
seeing his daughter was like seeing a lie that was cursed upon him which made it impossible to except
her. As a result, Morrison undoubtedly touches on how whites back then didn t learn empathy or
compassion towards the blacks. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Morrison wrote, Oh, yeah, I feel bad sometimes about how I treated Lula Ann when she was little. She
uses an anecdote to articulate her view on oppression by introducing the effect she had on her child.
While it might be true that Morrison uses deep and sensitive languages my overall position does not
change because her writing resonates with how profound the topic of oppression is when she uses a
metaphor. Morrison stated, She was so black she scared me. Morrison used metaphor to further
emphasize the fear she had for her daughter.Lula Ann(the daughter) was born to a high yellow mother
that rejected the infant just as she changes right in front of her eyes from a pale skin tone to midnight
black, Sudanese black. Lamar got his point across by using violent languages such as, Mother******
you can live at the mall. As you can see, Morrison s has given voice to black people with a more

Beastie Boys Research Paper
When I first browsed through the different topics on which we were to write essays on, I was ecstatic
when I saw one about rock and roll. Once I started skimming through all the bands and artists I know
and love, I knew there would be no problem writing this essay. I firmly believe that I was born in the
wrong generation of music because I am a hardcore oldies junkie at heart. For this reason, the bands I
have selected are as follows: The Beastie Boys, Fleetwood Mac, The Police, Red Hot Chili Peppers,
Johnny Cash, and The Righteous Brothers.
One of the main reasons why I adore the Beastie Boys like many others is because of their care free
energetic aura that they mix together with captivating sounds discretely concealing rhetorical puns.
What makes them especially unique to me is their transformation from a rowdy party punk band to a
mixture of pop, rock, and hip hop. In addition to a change musically, it was clear that their maturity
shifted alongside it. This eventually led the band to use its widespread popularity and ... Show more

Although you could say I am partly biased due to the fact that he was born and raised in the great state

example, probably the biggest reason why people loved Johnny Cash is because of his humble
personality which caused all of his songs to feel very down to earth which related to a multitude of
people from all classes. From experiencing many struggles in his own life, Cash was able to translate
his own emotions and thoughts into lyrics with rhythmic beats that attracted the average individual
who shared the same feelings. Even though I am not able to see him in concert since he passed away,
listening to his live recorded songs makes me realize that the rock and roll icon still lives through the

was amazing that he didn t die while he was there. Once he was released however he claimed his
riches and went to his castle, it is here when he begins planning his revenge on the three men who got
him locked up. He made the decision to use their greatest vice or most favorite thing for his revenge
so that the impact cuts deep. So if the man was greedy then he would use his greed as part of his
revenge. So rather than talking about his revenge acts themselves i will talk sbout it asa theme of the

Comparison Of Blindness And The Maze Runner
Blindness For my reading for this trimester I chose to read Blindness. The book starts with a man
suddenly going blind at a traffic light. From there everyone who comes in contact with this man
becomes blind and then the people who become blind find that people they come in contact with also
become blind. I had several connections with this book. In this paper I will talk about my connections
with this book to other books I have read and this book to my life. Two books that this story reminded
me of were The Hunger Games series and the Maze runner series. One of the main reasons why I
thought of these books was because of the fact that they are trapped or contained in a place against
their will. A similarly between The Maze Runner and Blindness is that they have a reason why they
were put in these places in The Maze Runner they were put in the maze because of their intelligence.
In Blindness they were put in the asylum because of the fear of the blindness spreading. A second
reason is that in these stories it seems like the government or whoever was in charge was against the
people contained in these areas. In a way all the governments in these ... Show more content on

Utilitarian Equality And Equality
What is equality? If one man in a room has five dollars and another man in the same room has fifty
dollars are we supposed to hold a gun to the temple of the man with fifty dollars in order to force him
into giving the man with five dollars some of his wealth? This is type of consequentialist or utilitarian
equality of outcome that was supported by some Socialist political economists of the nineteenth and
twentieth century such as Marx and Engels who would dare to go even farther in advocating for the
abolition and confiscation of property on top of a heavy graduated income tax (Marx 18). Other
theorists from the Enlightenment that were more liberally inclined such as Adam Smith and John
Locke advocated for a more deontologist framework where some would consider equal opportunity
takes precedent. This can most notably be seen through Smith when he called for an exact
administration of justice, and the creation and maintenance of public institutions that would be
advantageous for society as a whole (Smith Lecture). In other words, a just infrastructure that would
be just for all men, (women still did not possess the same rights as men at this time) in which they
hoped gave citizens an equal shot at the market and life. Bakunin, on the other hand, had similar views
as Smith in regards to equality but still maintained collectivist undertones in his writings. Bakunin
believed that freedom should be the basis of equality and that freedom of each is therefore realizable

Situational Leadership Theory And Organizational Leadership
Situational Leadership Theory and Organizational Leadership
Why are some employees happier and more satisfied with their work environment than others? Why
are some teams within the same organization more productive than others? How can you get
subordinates to trust your decisions, readily cooperate with others and follow your lead? The answer
to these questions boils down to one thing; effective leadership. For our purpose, effective leadership
can be defined as the art of influencing individuals and groups to accomplish the goals and objectives
of the organization (Plunkett, Allan, and Attner, 2013). Effective leadership has a direct impact on the
motivation, or lack thereof, of employees and how they interact with others within the organization.
Followers will also act in ways that reflect their leaders example, whether it is positive or negative. It
is obvious that the leadership culture within our organization is ineffective and employee productivity
and morale has slipped to unacceptable levels. Because of our current situation, the following
information is presented to you, as managers and supervisors, as a guide to help you become a more
effective leader. There are many theories on how best to lead and motivate employees, however, for
our purposes, we will concentrate our study and efforts on the situational leadership theories.

An Analysis of the Social Gradient of Health in Relation to the Australian Indigenous population The
demonstration of a social gradient of health predicts that reducing inequality itself has health benefits
for all, not simply for the impoverished or deprived minorities within populations. (Devitt, Hall Tsey
2001) The above quote from Devitt, Hall and Tsey s paper is a relatively well grounded and well

assertion that reducing inequality is the key to improving health for all. However the assertion that the

Henry states that a central differentiator between classes is the amount of control an individual feels
they have over their environment. Whereas an individual from a lower class group holds a limited
sense of control over their well being and consequently adopts a fatalistic approach to health, those in
higher classes with a stronger sense of control over their health are more likely to take proactive steps
in ensuring their future wellbeing. This means that both individuals will cope differently with the same
health problem. This is partly as a result of socioeconomic or environmental determinants relative to
their situation, but it is also a result of behavioural/physical constraints and, most importantly, the
modes of thought employed in rationalising their situation and actions. In essence these psychosocial
pathways occupy an intermediate role between the social determinants of health and class related
health behaviours. This suggests that, while the social gradient of health is a good predictor of
predisposition to ill health among specific classes, it cannot predict how reducing inequality in itself
will affect health outcomes or how a specific social class will respond to these changes. An
examination of some initiatives aimed at reducing inequality in the indicators of health outcomes
reveals this problem; In 1996 only between 5% and 6% of NT Aboriginal

Essay on Oedipus Rex s Moral Responsibility
Conscience, in modern usage, term denoting various factors in moral experience. Thus, the
recognition and acceptance of a principle of conduct as binding is called conscience. In theology and
ethics, the term refers to the inner sense of right and wrong in moral choices, as well as to the
satisfaction that follows action regarded as right and the dissatisfaction and remorse resulting from
conduct that is considered wrong. In earlier ethical theories, conscience was regarded as a separate
faculty of the mind having moral jurisdiction, either absolute or as a representative of God in the

Lonely and homeless, Oedipus arrived at Thebes, which was beset by a dreadful monster called the
Sphinx. The frightful creature frequented the roads to the city, killing and devouring all travelers who
could not answer the riddle that she put to them: What walks on four legs in the morning, on two legs
at noon, and on three legs in the evening? The answer was a human being, who in infancy crawls on
all fours, in adulthood walks upright on two legs, and in old age uses a cane. When Oedipus solved
her riddle, the Sphinx killed herself. Believing that King Laius had been slain by unknown robbers,
and grateful to Oedipus for ridding them of the Sphinx, the Thebans rewarded Oedipus by making him

Migrant Mother Image Essay
A picture of a mother and her three children became one of the most recognizable photos in history. It
came out of the Great Depression. In the black and white picture, a woman sits holding her infant,
while resting her head in her right hand, with hopelessness displayed on her face. She has two older
children leaning on her, their back facing the camera. Dorothea Lange, the photographer, worked for
the federal government. Her assignment was to take photographs of rural poverty and capture the
effects of it in her photographs. Migrant Mother did that. It was later discovered that the mother in the
image is Florence Thompson, who died in 1983. The Migrant Mother image sparks numerous

The image symbolizes most of the mothers during the Great Depression. They felt discouraged
because they could not care for their kids. Michael Austin says that she was a mother of seven at age
thirty two (568), which is how many families were. There were numerous big families during the
beginning of the twentieth century. That caused more struggle for them because there were more
mouths to feed. Henry states that the mother was Aged both by weather and misfortune, she is a victim
of intense poverty (38). Majority of Americans were like that during the Great Depression. Almost
everyone suffered from poverty. This image displayed her level of suffering, which is why it
symbolizes the Americans during the Great Depression. James C. Curtis agrees because he states After
its publication in 1936, Migrant Mother became a timeless and universal symbol of suffering in the
face of adversity (1). However, the symbolism of the picture goes deeper than that. The tent the
mother and her children was staying in represents the country. It represents how unstable the country
is. The country had fallen apart, just as easy as their home could. There are numerous instances of
symbolism in this image which contributes as to why it is so representative of that

negative influences that these form of entertainment bring. Many of today s children grow up with a
television at home or even in their own rooms and there have been studies dedicated to the analysis of
their impact of a young child growing up to adolescence. Young children are heavily influenced by
television and video games, many of which are educational. While there are fun educational shows

How the contents or messages come through changes the attitude of the viewers or readers. The
messages that each kind of media exposes are dependent on person s view. He compares movies and

person who is into the broadcast and print industry.
Video Games Violence
Video games are a lucrative business anywhere in the world today, claiming US$ 10 billion in sales in
the United States alone in one year. However, with this increasing sales come serious concerns about
their effects on players, especially teenagers. Researches have been conducted to show the effects of
video games on teenagers. Results prove that there is indeed a high possibility and likelihood of
aggressive and violent behaviors to be manifested in some adolescents who frequently play violent
video games. With these findings, public policy options for limiting distribution of these kind of
games are being created; however, the creation and spread of more video games seem too many too
stop. In 2006, the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) reported their findings on studies
conducted on teenagers who play violent games. These young adolescents show long lasting effects of
abnormal brain functions which include

Different Stages Of The Grieving Process
People handle death in many different ways. People s culture, age and gender all have an important
impact on how they will cope with the death of a loved one. It s important for nurses to understand all
aspects that play into how someone deals with death so they can better help provide the correct care
and support. This paper will explain what grief is and the different stages of the grieving process, how
children, being male or female, and diverse cultures cope with death, and how nurses can better
support people depending on these groups.
Bereavement is the time when people grief and mourn after a person has died. Grief is an emotion that
is often trigged by death (Leming Dickinson, 2016). Leming Dickinson (2016) stated:

As time goes on these emotions should slowly decrease between six months and two years (Grief,
Bereavement, and Coping With Loss, 2009). These emotions can also come in spurts, and a person
may not always experience them at one given time (Grief, Bereavement, and Coping With Loss,
2009). A lot of the time grief is described in a staging process. Many people are familiar with Kubler
Ross s five stages of the dying process, which comprises of: denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and
acceptance (Leming Dickinson, 2016). Like Kubler Ross s five stages of the dying process, Robert
Kavanaugh also came up with different behaviors and feelings that are associated with the coping
process (Leming Dickinson, 2016). Kavanaugh s seven stages consist of: shock and denial,
disorganization, volatile reactions, guilt, loss and loneliness, relief, and reestablishment (Leming
Dickinson, 2016). Not all people with move through the stages in the same fashion (Leming
Dickinson, 2016). Grieving can also become complicated grief and that happens when the normal
emotions of grieving never go away and it disrupts the person from participating in their normal daily
life ((Smith Segal, n.d.)
). Many factors can increase the chance of complicated grief occurring such as:

Child Labor Is A Harmful Problem In The World
With an estimated 150 million children ages five to fourteen working, child labor is a serious problem
in many of the world s poorest countries (Americans Attitudes, 2017). Constrained to work long hours
in hazardous jobs, numerous children in poverty have little alternatives but to work to help bolster
their families. Aside from the physical risk these children face, their prospects for rising from poverty
are greatly weakened, as without an education, they have little hope of developing the skills they need
(Americans Attitudes, 2017). You might not think that you are remotely connected to child labor. You
may reason that it occurs only in other countries and it is illegal where you live but you are wrong. In
fact, many items used in today s world have been picked or crafted by child workers. As consumers,
we shouldn t support companies that endorse child labor.
To understand why child labor is still relevant and how we, as consumers, can help stop it, we must
understand the forces behind it. Because child labor is such a complex issue with a variety of indirect
and direct causes, there is no single factor that can explain child labor practices in developing
countries. Poverty is the most common cause of child labor, but besides that, there are many
unintended factors that cause it. The main causes are uneducated parents who are more likely to
consider education insignificant, social structure of the community that has been tolerant towards
child labor, a country s

A Slave During The Slave Trade
In the course of humanity, there have been times in which people will look upon one another with
nothing but disgust and indifference. While it is becoming less of a situation as time progresses and
ideals change, there was much controversy back when trading one another was legal. Abraham
Lincoln once said in his novel entitled Complete Works Volume XII, Those who deny freedom to
others, deserve it not for themselves (Chandler). However, the question must be begged: what is
slavery, and how much do people really know about some of the tragic stories that occurred during
that time period? Olaudah Equiano was a slave during the slave trade who wrote an autobiography
about his experiences with said topic. After being enslaved for ten years, he finally could afford to buy
his freedom and become an anti slavery activist. His text explains his trek across oceans in a ship with
awful living conditions. In the text, The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano, by
Olaudah Equiano, the reader can learn about the conditions aboard the ships, the cruelty of the sailors
and the aftermath of the Atlantic Slave Trade.
To begin, Equiano speaks about the repulsive circumstances he experiences whilst on the ship. Being a
miniscule boat, there should be no way that a surplus of slaves could fit...or it there? The Atlantic
Slave Trade was famous for the awful living conditions the Africans faced while on the boat for as
long as they were. Olaudah explains how, The

economic, and social issues would shed some light on why so many risk their lives trying to make it to
America. This painting is made for public viewing, to memorialize and remind people of an actual real
life incident that occurred back in August of 2014. KHCO shows us Cuban survivors being pulled

Achilles In The Odyssey
Achilles refused extra service, and therefore the Greeks were very defeated because Achilles allowed
Patroclus to come like him, giving him his car and his weapons. Hector (King Priam s first son of
Troy) killed Patroclus, and Achilles, who eventually joined Agamemnon, received new weapons from
Hephaestus and killed Hector. After hitting the body of Hector behind his car, Achilles gave Priam to
his hard request. Iliad has ceased with the Hector funeral ceremony. It does not mention the death of
Achilles, though the Odyssey says its funeral. Poetry Arctinus in his Ethiopia gathered the story of
Iliad and explained that Achilles, after killing the Emperor Memnon and the Amazoni Penthedonian,
was killed in the battle with the son of Priam, Paris, whose arrow was led by Apollo.
The final reporters involved with Peleus, after receiving orders according to which his son died while
fighting Troy, sent Achilles to the Lycomedes court in Scyrus, where he was dressed as a woman and

Gordon S. Wood s The Radicalism Of The American Revolution
Gordon S. Wood, in The Radicalism of the American Revolution, explicitly details the societal,
economic, and governmental institutions of Colonial American society, and considers the era to be pre
modern because of its strong focus on monarchy, hierarchy, and patriarchy. The colonial world in
America was traditional in its basic social relationships and in its cultural society. (Wood 11). Wood
even suggests that, in some respects colonial society was more traditional than that of the mother
country (12). With the concept of the traditionalism of the colonial world, Wood declares the era to be
pre modern. Pre modernism can be defined as the era before industrialization, which radically altered

and, alongside other responsibilities of the household patriarch, helped to assure the continuation of

Personalizaton through Searches on Google and Facebook is...
Worldwide there is an underlying issue within search engines and social media. This issue is becoming
evident as the number of people retrieving their news through Google and Facebook increases.
Personalisation through searches is evolving to only show the consumer what they want to see not
what they need to see. Online Organiser and Author of The Filter Bubble , Eli Pariser argues in his
TED Talk about the unreliability of not being exposed to information that could broaden our
worldwide view and possibly resolve pivotal democratic issues. This cycle of trying to consistently
please the users is becoming evident within search organisations and has evolved with technology as
algorithmic filters were introduced having an unbalanced and unethical filter. This invisible filter is
now generating a personal unique universe of information (Pariser, 2011), for every individual user,
enforcing the inability to have a functioning democracy because of the public not receiving accurate
and most importantly balanced information. The Filter Bubble s motive is to create a personalised
environment online through the search engine, by getting to know the source of sites it thinks it s
consumer is interested in. The filter then only provides their subject with specific relevant
information. The continuous flow of information being shown on google and Facebook revolves
around the commonly visited sites rather than things that benefit the users worldwide view and get

Automotive Ignition Systems
Ignition Systems:
New and Old
Jeff Tuttle
Period 3
9/9/04
Ignitions systems in motor vehicles have evolved in the past thirty years. Points was a simple concept
but was not reliable and needed adjustment and replacement of components seemed constant. Today a
magnetic sensor relays a signal to the computer which in turn sends the voltage to the selected
cylinder to ignite the fuel/air mixture. There are not mechanical parts to fail or become corroded and
brittle. There are many different parts to an ignition system. These parts differ between modern and
old ignition systems. There is a coil. Sometimes one coil provides the increased voltage to the
distributor or there is no distributor at all and each cylinder has its own ... Show more content on

When the ignition switch is placed in the start position, the solenoid windings are energized and the
resulting shift lever movement causes the drive pinion gear to engage the flywheel ring gear, and
cranking takes place. When the engine starts, an overrunning clutch (part of the drive assembly)
protects the armature from too much speed until the switch is opened. At this time, a return spring
causes the pinion gear to disengage from the flywheel.
The spark plug wire carries 20,000 or more volts from the distributor cap to the spark plug. Spark plug
wires are made of various layers of materials. The fiber core, inside the spark plug wire carries the
high voltage. The older design of spark plug wires used a metallic wire to carry the high voltage. This
caused electrical interference with the radio and TV reception. Some spark plug wires have a locking
connection at the distributor cap. The distributor cap must first be removed and the terminals be
squeezed together, and then the spark plug wire can be removed from the distributor cap. To reduce
interference with radio and TV reception, ignition systems are provided with resistance in the
secondary circuit. Resistor spark plugs or special resistor type ignition cable may be used. To work
effectively in modern ignition systems, it is important that the resistor ignition cable is capable of
producing a specifically designed resistance. The cable must also have enough insulation so that

Essay about Cannibalism
Cannibalism is the consumption of human flesh by other human beings. The concept of people eating
other people is highly debatable, but it has been proven to occur throughout history. The word
cannibalism comes from the Carib Indians of the West Indies, which were called Caribales quot; or
Canibales (Spier 543). The Spanish word canibales translates to thirsty and cruel in English. Another
known term for cannibalism is the Latin form anthropophagy (Bell). Anthropophagy derives from the
Greek words anthropos meaning man and phagein meaning eat. The term anthropophagy was used in
ancient times, which suggests that people from ancient times consumed other human beings (Spier
543).
The first documented encounter of cannibalism ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After half of the travelers had died, the remaining people started to eat the flesh of the deceased in
attempts of survival. Forty six survivors were eventually rescued, but they received excessive
judgement for their actions. They were tried for their crimes of cannibalism, and they all served six
months in prison before they could return to their communities (Bell).
Another case of survival cannibalism took place in 1972 when a group of South American rugby
players were stranded in the Andes Mountains. Forty five people left on an airplane for their
destination of Chile, and only sixteen would make it alive. Their plane crashed into the Andes
Mountains, killing thirteen people from the crash itself. The crash also injured many others who would
eventually die over the weeks from their injuries. The mountains offered no supplies or food for
support. With no food, many of the crash survivors resorted to eating the deceased. Those survivors
who refused to eat their fellow people died of starvation. This group of people spent seventy days in
the mountains before the sixteen survivors were rescued and brought home (Bell). The story of these
South American athletes would be the plot for the movie Alive (1993) which was based on a true story
(Goldman).
Another form of cannibalism that has taken place is spiritual and ritual cannibalism. There are many
forms of it worldwide. The first is exocannibalism which is when a group or

The Christian Martyr By Gabriel Von Max
For my observation essay, I chose the piece The Christian Martyr by Gabriel von Max, which is on
display at the Frye Art Museum, it is oil on paper, painted in 1867. I find this piece illustrates multiple
principles of design the ones standing out most clearly to me being balance, implied line, and
emphasis through repetition. Hue, saturation, and value play into most of these principles as well. A
strong sense of balance is created by the elements of the piece, namely the horizon splitting the
painting nearly in half with a light gray on top, and a dark brown on the bottom. Value plays a an
important role here, as the lower value of the brown causes the piece to feel heavier while the higher
value of the gray has the reverse effect, making it feel much lighter. The fact that the gray fills
comparatively more space in the piece creates a visually striking balance. As the gradient progresses
from very light gray to a darker gray, as it nears the horizon line, it contributes to the sense of weight

The use of the same, or very similar, colors in multiple small details creates a nice connection between
important elements of the painting, and also plays a part in leading your eye around the painting. As

shoes, the flowers in the man s hand, the highlight in his hair, and, finally, the light glow under the
woman s arms stands out very strongly, creating a strong emphasis on these small details. It creates
interest, and almost a sense of fun, as the viewer is lead on a journey from the woman s shoes, to the
flowers, to the highlight in the man s hair. Here the implied line, and therefore directional forces, from
the man s line of sight leads the viewer s eye up to the woman, and the final bit of orange pink color

Music Education In Music
The stigma associated with pursuing an education in the musical arts affects the decision of many
musicians nationwide. The appeal of guaranteed financial and career stability of STEM and other
paths of high demand jobs is very difficult to pass up, even by the most dedicated musicians. Then, the
input and advice of outsiders come into play. These onlookers not only encourage study of the hard
sciences and a foolproof path to success via university, but they also totally and blatantly discourage
and belittle the intelligence, rationality and integrity of not just the paths of musicians, but all liberal
artists. Don t you want to make money? What do you mean you won t have internships, don t you
want a job? How are you going to survive? This blitzkrieg of questioning and doubt, though
theoretically peripheral to the bigger picture, is reasonably common, however, severely unjustified.
Pursuing a formal college education in music is easily one of the best things you could do for yourself,
regardless of whether or not this is the career path of your choosing. As a student of formal music
education, you are actually being trained in more real world skills than most other majors, which will

of information that is essential for the management of the human body life (Broks, 2016). This paper
discusses systems theory of systems thinking as applied to organizations today, in particular to
learning institutions versus those of traditional organizations, and their functionalities. Research has
taught us that companies are compelling, hierarchically structured entities. Such dynamism lives in the
emergence of significant events at every organizational level (Caldwell, (2012).
Characteristics of Systems Thinking.
According to Davis, Powell, Dent and Wharff (2015), the features of discovery, action, and framing
are the characteristics of systems thinking that promote organizations success. These three features

Australian Youth Speech
Party goers, hooligans, and just plain idiots is how the media represent Australian youth. Far too often,
Australian youth is depicted negatively. It is unfair that the media represents youth this way because
there are many young Australians out there who need to be recognized for their positive achievements.
Several articles that I will share with you today will illustrate how the media leaves readers thinking
the worst about teenagers. This must stop. It s time to shine a spotlight on the great things young
people can do and say.
Here s proof, according to this article Community meeting teen hooligans terrorize Woy Woy. Is a
gang of teenage hooligans as the media calls them, is a gang on the central coast is being blamed for a
string ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This young teenage boy has represent unfairly due to young age the boy was given heavy charges
which for a sixteen year is a big substantial amount of money for a sixteen year old. The journalist
says that the police said the commissioner instead of the police were forced to act as they believed an
attack was imminent. If the attack was imminent which means about to happen why didn t the police
act earlier to the arrest of the sixteen year old boy who is facing too big of substantial money, if the
police acted earlier this would not ended how it ended for that young teenager. I know that Anzac Day
is a very special occasion and is highly respected throughout Australia and New Zealand but, the
police should have had more wits about them they would of seen the boy planning his attack and they
knew because they said it was imminent to happen. This young teenage boy has been represented
negatively towards the Australian Youth.
In conclusion, all these articles explain in full detail why the media portrays our Australian youth
negatively and shows that there is good people in our Australian youth. Our media must change the
way the media portrays our Australian youth. The media must show more of our Australian youth
doing great thing throughout Australia and the media

First of all, Richard Blanco s poems are loaded with figurative language: mostly metaphors and similes. One reason he uses his figurative language is to help the reader visualize the setting. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The way he used words from another language really showed the cultural mix in him. For example in his poem America , he uses Spanish word like Mercado (line 17) or Tía (Line 1) that even if the reader is not a Spanish speaker, the reader could probably figure out. I could not do that with my language because we have an entirely different alphabet that most readers are not familiar with. Therefore, I had to write the words in my language using the English alphabet. For example on line 6 of my poem, I use the word Jannah which means paradise in Arabic. I specifically used Arabic words that were religious to show the tight bond between my culture and my religion. Richard also uses specific words to help readers read in between the lines. For example, Richard Blanco said in his poem America, Prepared the poor fowl (line 58). When he said poor fowl, it gave the impression that the grandmother did not like having to prepare the turkey and wishes she did not have to do it. I used diction in my poem in this way in my poem when I said; Warm hugs from my begetters (line 8). Toni Morrison s short story Sweetness articulated her view on oppression more effectively than the song Alright by Kendrick Lamar because she used anecdote and metaphor to justify her position. This made the readers aware of the personal issues she went through. Sweetness elaborates on her view regarding race because of the personal stories about a mother and the issues she had with her daughter. Morrison s parents moved to Ohio from the South, hoping to raise their children in an environment friendlier to blacks. This wasn t the case when she grew up, married her white husband and got a child. For this reason, the bands I have selected are as follows: The Beastie Boys, Fleetwood Mac, The Police, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Johnny Cash, and The Righteous Brothers. One of the main reasons why I adore the Beastie Boys like many others is because of their care free energetic aura that they mix together with captivating sounds discretely concealing rhetorical puns. If one man in a room has five dollars and another man in the same room has fifty dollars are we supposed to hold a gun to the temple of the man with fifty dollars in order to force him into giving the man with five dollars some of his wealth? This is type of consequentialist or utilitarian equality of outcome that was supported by some Socialist political economists of the nineteenth and twentieth century such as Marx and Engels who would dare to go even farther in advocating for the abolition and confiscation of property on top of a heavy graduated income tax (Marx 18). Other theorists from the Enlightenment that were more liberally inclined such as Adam Smith and John Locke advocated for a more deontologist framework where some would consider equal opportunity takes precedent. This can most notably be seen through Smith when he called for an exact administration of justice, and the creation and maintenance of public institutions that would be advantageous for society as a whole (Smith Lecture). In other words, a just infrastructure that would be just for all men, (women still did not possess the same rights as men at this time) in which they hoped gave citizens an equal shot at the market and life. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Henry states that a central differentiator between classes is the amount of control an individual feels they have over their environment. Whereas an individual from a lower class group holds a limited sense of control over their well being and consequently adopts a fatalistic approach to health, those in higher classes with a stronger sense of control over their health are more likely to take proactive steps in ensuring their future wellbeing. This means that both individuals will cope differently with the same health problem. This is partly as a result of socioeconomic or environmental determinants relative to their situation, but it is also a result of behavioural/physical constraints and, most importantly, the modes of thought employed in rationalising their situation and actions. In essence these psychosocial pathways occupy an intermediate role between the social determinants of health and class related health behaviours. This suggests that, while the social gradient of health is a good predictor of predisposition to ill health among specific classes, it cannot predict how reducing inequality in itself will affect health outcomes or how a specific social class will respond to these changes. An examination of some initiatives aimed at reducing inequality in the indicators of health outcomes reveals this problem; In 1996 only between 5% and 6% of NT Aboriginal ... These emotions can also come in spurts, and a person may not always experience them at one given time (Grief, Bereavement, and Coping With Loss, 2009). A lot of the time grief is described in a staging process. Many people are familiar with Kubler Ross s five stages of the dying process, which comprises of: denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance (Leming Dickinson, 2016). Like Kubler Ross s five stages of the dying process, Robert Kavanaugh also came up with different behaviors and feelings that are associated with the coping process (Leming Dickinson, 2016). Kavanaugh s seven stages consist of: shock and denial, disorganization, volatile reactions, guilt, loss and loneliness, relief, and reestablishment (Leming Dickinson, 2016). Not all people with move through the stages in the same fashion (Leming Dickinson, 2016). Grieving can also become complicated grief and that happens when the normal emotions of grieving never go away and it disrupts the person from participating in their normal daily life ((Smith Segal, n.d.) ). • 23. Child Labor Is A Harmful Problem In The World With an estimated 150 million children ages five to fourteen working, child labor is a serious problem in many of the world s poorest countries (Americans Attitudes, 2017). Constrained to work long hours in hazardous jobs, numerous children in poverty have little alternatives but to work to help bolster their families. Aside from the physical risk these children face, their prospects for rising from poverty are greatly weakened, as without an education, they have little hope of developing the skills they need (Americans Attitudes, 2017). You might not think that you are remotely connected to child labor. You may reason that it occurs only in other countries and it is illegal where you live but you are wrong. In fact, many items used in today s world have been picked or crafted by child workers. As consumers, we shouldn t support companies that endorse child labor. To understand why child labor is still relevant and how we, as consumers, can help stop it, we must understand the forces behind it. Because child labor is such a complex issue with a variety of indirect and direct causes, there is no single factor that can explain child labor practices in developing countries. Poverty is the most common cause of child labor, but besides that, there are many unintended factors that cause it. The main causes are uneducated parents who are more likely to consider education insignificant, social structure of the community that has been tolerant towards child labor, a country s ... While it is becoming less of a situation as time progresses and ideals change, there was much controversy back when trading one another was legal. Abraham Lincoln once said in his novel entitled Complete Works Volume XII, Those who deny freedom to others, deserve it not for themselves (Chandler). However, the question must be begged: what is slavery, and how much do people really know about some of the tragic stories that occurred during that time period? Olaudah Equiano was a slave during the slave trade who wrote an autobiography about his experiences with said topic. After being enslaved for ten years, he finally could afford to buy his freedom and become an anti slavery activist. His text explains his trek across oceans in a ship with awful living conditions. In the text, The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano, by Olaudah Equiano, the reader can learn about the conditions aboard the ships, the cruelty of the sailors and the aftermath of the Atlantic Slave Trade. To begin, Equiano speaks about the repulsive circumstances he experiences whilst on the ship. Being a miniscule boat, there should be no way that a surplus of slaves could fit...or it there? Wood, in The Radicalism of the American Revolution, explicitly details the societal, economic, and governmental institutions of Colonial American society, and considers the era to be pre modern because of its strong focus on monarchy, hierarchy, and patriarchy. The colonial world in America was traditional in its basic social relationships and in its cultural society. (Wood 11). Wood even suggests that, in some respects colonial society was more traditional than that of the mother country (12). This issue is becoming evident as the number of people retrieving their news through Google and Facebook increases. Personalisation through searches is evolving to only show the consumer what they want to see not what they need to see. Online Organiser and Author of The Filter Bubble , Eli Pariser argues in his TED Talk about the unreliability of not being exposed to information that could broaden our worldwide view and possibly resolve pivotal democratic issues. This cycle of trying to consistently please the users is becoming evident within search organisations and has evolved with technology as algorithmic filters were introduced having an unbalanced and unethical filter. This invisible filter is now generating a personal unique universe of information (Pariser, 2011), for every individual user, enforcing the inability to have a functioning democracy because of the public not receiving accurate and most importantly balanced information. The Filter Bubble s motive is to create a personalised environment online through the search engine, by getting to know the source of sites it thinks it s consumer is interested in. The filter then only provides their subject with specific relevant information. The continuous flow of information being shown on google and Facebook revolves around the commonly visited sites rather than things that benefit the users worldwide view and get them thinking (Eli ... Points was a simple concept but was not reliable and needed adjustment and replacement of components seemed constant. Today a magnetic sensor relays a signal to the computer which in turn sends the voltage to the selected cylinder to ignite the fuel/air mixture. There are not mechanical parts to fail or become corroded and brittle. There are many different parts to an ignition system. These parts differ between modern and old ignition systems. There is a coil. Sometimes one coil provides the increased voltage to the distributor or there is no distributor at all and each cylinder has its own ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When the ignition switch is placed in the start position, the solenoid windings are energized and the resulting shift lever movement causes the drive pinion gear to engage the flywheel ring gear, and cranking takes place. When the engine starts, an overrunning clutch (part of the drive assembly) protects the armature from too much speed until the switch is opened. At this time, a return spring causes the pinion gear to disengage from the flywheel. The spark plug wire carries 20,000 or more volts from the distributor cap to the spark plug. Spark plug wires are made of various layers of materials. The fiber core, inside the spark plug wire carries the high voltage. The older design of spark plug wires used a metallic wire to carry the high voltage. This caused electrical interference with the radio and TV reception. Some spark plug wires have a locking connection at the distributor cap. The distributor cap must first be removed and the terminals be squeezed together, and then the spark plug wire can be removed from the distributor cap. To reduce interference with radio and TV reception, ignition systems are provided with resistance in the secondary circuit. Resistor spark plugs or special resistor type ignition cable may be used. To work effectively in modern ignition systems, it is important that the resistor ignition cable is capable of producing a specifically designed resistance. Another case of survival cannibalism took place in 1972 when a group of South American rugby players were stranded in the Andes Mountains. Forty five people left on an airplane for their destination of Chile, and only sixteen would make it alive. Their plane crashed into the Andes Mountains, killing thirteen people from the crash itself. The crash also injured many others who would eventually die over the weeks from their injuries. The Christian Martyr By Gabriel Von Max For my observation essay, I chose the piece The Christian Martyr by Gabriel von Max, which is on display at the Frye Art Museum, it is oil on paper, painted in 1867. I find this piece illustrates multiple principles of design the ones standing out most clearly to me being balance, implied line, and emphasis through repetition. Hue, saturation, and value play into most of these principles as well. A strong sense of balance is created by the elements of the piece, namely the horizon splitting the painting nearly in half with a light gray on top, and a dark brown on the bottom. Value plays a an important role here, as the lower value of the brown causes the piece to feel heavier while the higher value of the gray has the reverse effect, making it feel much lighter. The fact that the gray fills comparatively more space in the piece creates a visually striking balance.
