Why Is Gatsby Great Essay
Crafting an essay on the greatness of Gatsby is a challenging endeavor that requires a delicate
balance between literary analysis, thematic exploration, and a deep understanding of F. Scott
Fitzgerald's masterpiece, "The Great Gatsby." The difficulty lies in capturing the elusive essence
of Jay Gatsby's greatness, which is intricately woven into the fabric of the novel.
One must navigate the complex web of Gatsby's character, exploring his enigmatic past, his
unrequited love for Daisy Buchanan, and the grandiose parties that mask his inner turmoil. The
challenge intensifies when attempting to dissect the symbolism embedded in every aspect of the
story – from the green light at the end of Daisy's dock to the opulent mansions of East and
West Egg.
Moreover, a successful essay on Gatsby's greatness demands a nuanced understanding of the
Jazz Age, the American Dream, and the social dynamics of the Roaring Twenties. Unveiling the
layers of societal critique that Fitzgerald subtly integrates into the narrative requires a keen eye
for detail and a profound appreciation for the historical context.
Crafting a compelling argument necessitates not only a thorough analysis of Gatsby's character
but also an exploration of Fitzgerald's writing style, narrative techniques, and the broader cultural
implications of the novel. Juggling these elements and weaving them into a coherent and
insightful essay is undoubtedly a formidable task.
In conclusion, tackling the question of why Gatsby is great in an essay demands a
comprehensive grasp of literature, history, and symbolism. It requires the writer to delve deep
into the complexities of the novel, extracting profound insights and presenting them in a
structured and compelling manner. It is an intellectual challenge that demands both analytical
prowess and a profound appreciation for the nuances of Fitzgerald's literary masterpiece.

The Presence Of A Gun Essay
Scholars have often debated whether guns influence an individual to commit a
violence act. It is hypothesized that an individual in the presence of a firearm, has an
increased likelihood of exhibiting anti social behaviors. The studies presented, will
investigate whether the presence of a gun, is a stimulus for aggressive behaviors
(Berkowitz Lepage, 1967; Anderson, Benjamin Bartholow, 1998; Bartholow,
Anderson, Carnagey Benjamin, 2005). Studies regarding whether gunownership
influences the likelihood of abnormal behaviors in adolescence will be examined
(Cunningham, Henggler, Limber, Melton Nation, 2000; Sprinkles, 2007). Gun
ownership rates and various violent acts will also be investigated, such as homicide
rates and suicide rates (Hemenway Miller, 2000; Killias, Van Kesteren
Rindlisbacher, 2001; Gius, 2009; Siegel, Ross King, 2013). Extrinsic factors
including race/ethnicity, culture, and the environment will additionally be addressed
(Cunningham et al., 2000; Sprinkles, 2007; Rajan, Namdar Ruggles, 2015). After all
research has been analyzed, it will be apparent that the presence of a firearmis
correlated to aggressive behaviors. Before delving into gun ownership rates, it is
important to discuss the history of experiments regarding gun presence and
aggression. An early experiment conducted by Berkowitz Lepage (1967), investigated
whether the presence of a weaponelicited hostile behaviors. The study observed 100
male students, who were attending
Ghost By Adichie
Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie s Ghosts is a short story centered on a dialogue
between aging professor James Nwoye and Ikenna Okoro, an acquaintance whom he
had thought long dead. Through their conversation, we gain perspective on Nwoye s
history (specifically, during a civil war), and though no action takes place in the
present, we experience the events through the lens of his memories. Ghosts is
unusual in that this primary sequence of events does not take place in the story s
present, which involves characters that do not appear or speak in the story, driving
the plot forward through Nwoye s memories and creating a timeless, surreal mood
that illustrates the mindset of the narrator. In many aspects, Ghosts appears to follow
a typical short... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They also simulate the structure of memory. The point of view and tone resemble
hearing a firsthand story told aloud, and Adichie s flashbacks and tangents add to
this effect. As such, there is some danger of an unreliable narrator; though Adichie
can speak volumes with few words, they can be misleading and tend to rely on
allowing the reader to fill in illustrative preconceptions, the problem with which, she
says in a TED talk, is not that they are untrue, but that they are incomplete (Adichie
13:05). We are limited by Nwoye s perspective, which may be deteriorating as he
blurs the lines between memory and reality. Whether in the present or in memory,
Ebere has a profound effect on the plot. The story of her life with her husband, as
told by Nwoye, is one of the most prominent recurring storylines, and although it is
told in parallel to the conversation with Ikenna that is the most real in terms of events,
it is arguably the dominant
Suitcase General Clinic Case Study
To examine and evaluate my research question, I ended up deciding upon using
three different clinics as my field sites: the Berkeley Free Clinic, the Suitcase
General Clinic, and the Suitcase Youth/LGBTQ+ Clinic primarily due to their
geographical proximity and because they were excellent examples of organizations
which, despite their similarity in terms of services offered, have vastly different
organizational structures and work cultures. The setting of my first field site, or the
Berkeley Free Clinic, was a largely run down basement area under a church. The very
entrance to the clinic was relatively ominous, dirty, and had a series of doors
monitored by dusty, degenerating security cameras that one had to pass through
before they could gain... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My second field site of observation, or the Suitcase General Clinic, a large gym area
situated in a church near campus, though also relatively run down and dilapidated,
was markedly different, as rather than possessing a waiting lobby surrounded by
cubicles which defined the appropriate location of where patient volunteer
interaction should take place, the Suitcase General Clinic had a large common
room where volunteers and clients alike interacted and moved freely around.
Furthermore, though this field site also had various different stations like the
Berkeley Free Clinic, such as a housing division, legal consultation team, hair
cutting services, and foot washing, these stations were all relatively open to the
clients, not sealed off or necessarily restrictive in their scope of access; one did not
have to make an appointment prior to coming into clinic. My last field site, or the
Suitcase Youth/LGBTQ+ Clinic, was relatively similar to the General Clinic, its only
difference being that it was held in a smaller gym area, it had different, distinct
decorations (LBGT flags), and that the music played appealed to a younger
Analysis Of The Gospel Of Wealth By Andrew Carnegie
Andrew Carnegie is broadly known as an unmistakable tycoon and a steel head
honcho who picked up acclaim for his trademark state of mind towards riches and
obligation that is related with it. The accompanying Andrew Carnegie paper will talk
about the issues identified with the most eminent work of this unmistakable figure
The Gospel of Wealth. Current article on Andrew Carnegiedoes not seek after an
objective of breaking down the history of this renowned individual however is
somewhat gone for examining how his paper The Gospel of Wealth has changed
the way the wealthiest individuals of the world consider assigning riches and being
in charge of it. The article composed by Andrew Carnegie was an endeavor to
impart another type of generosity in the independent moguls and pioneers of the
business world. He composed his paper in 1889, however from numerous points of
view, it is as yet important even in the 21st century. It is realized that when Andrew
Carnegie passed on in 1919, he had spent most his cash (more than $350 million) on
helping the less favored social gatherings and the rest of the $30 million was
coordinated to different philanthropy associations. Andrew Carnegie was an astute
and shrewd businessperson. In this manner, he spent the most recent years of his life
paying back the cash he had gotten. The paper underneath will examine the
commitment of Andrew Carnegie in light of his article The Gospel of Wealth .

The latter part of the 19th century (1870 1900) is generally viewed as a dark time in
American History. Called the Gilded Age this was a time in which increasing wealth
was plagued by many problems under the surface. The Gilded Age saw increasing
industrialization, urbanization, immigration, and the problems associated with them.
Many people during this time period blamed these problems on the government for
being laissez faire; for not taking steps against industry in order to benefit the interests
of the people. Although the people were correct in the fact that the government was
not taking steps in order to benefit them, the claim that the government during the
Gilded Age was laissez faire is completely false. Through their... Show more content

Thus, through the acquisition of wealth for the wealthy, the poor are able to obtain
the necessities of life, and society is advanced. While The Theory of Moral
Sentiments deals mainly with the moral argument for laissez faire, The Wealth of
Nations justifies the usage of laissez faire at the national level through economic
arguments. In Book 4 of The Wealth of Nations (Of systems of political Economy),
Smith argued that government restrictions hindered industrial expansion and thus,
harmed the economy in the long run (in earlier books, Smith had equated the growth
of industry to the wealth of a nation and its individuals through historical analysis).
Specifically, he stated that protectionist tariffs served against the interests of a nation
by causing increasing prices of foreign and domestic goods, that export duties harm
the economy by diminishing the goods that a company can ship overseas, that trade
treaties harm the economy by giving a foreign nation a trade monopoly over an
industry (since the other country will only be trading with them for that particular
good), and that by restricting the
The Beating Heart Of The Seven Gables
The Beating Heart of The House of the Seven Gables Nathaniel Hawthorne
extensively weaves symbolism into the pages of The House of the Seven Gables to
bring the house and the items within it to life. The use of gothic elements within the
house directly reflects upon the decaying of the Pyncheon family. Their once lively
home stands as a constant reminder of the family s legacy. The Pyncheon mansion
strongly represents the decaying of the Pyncheon family over time. In the early 1800
s, when the house was first built, the Pyncheons were a thriving, wealthy, and
influential family. However, as time goes on, the house starts to become an eerie
residence in the same way the Pyncheon s glory fades. The author describes the

demands Phoebe to greet him first by saying, Pheobe; for you are young and rosy,
and cannot help letting a smile break out whether or no. He always liked bright
faces! And mine is old now, the tears are hardly dry on it (page 70). In the yard
outside the house stands an overgrown elm tree symbolizing the growth of the
darkness in the Pyncheon family. The great tree blocks the sun from shining into the
home. Hawthorne symbolizes this as the burden and secrets that cast a dark shadow
over the family. When the tree first sprouts upon the lawn and grows, beauty radiates
from it in the same way the Pyncheons first radiate their glory. Inside the house
remains the memory of Alice Pyncheon found within her coffin like harpsichord. The
harpsichord plays beautiful melodies that still echo through the house. They serve as
a constant reminder of Alice s spirit. However, the instrument representing a coffin
reminds those who wonder about Alice s legacy of her tragic ending. By using a
coffin like harpsichord, Hawthorne employs a dual symbol to an item. Much like how
the house causes unease to those who dare glance in its direction, the painting of
Colonel Pyncheon lets off the same threatening vibe. The glare the old Pyncheon
holds in the portrait keeps people who observe the artwork from attempting to remove
it from the wall. Hawthorne writes, there
Communication Is Fundamental For Forming Human
Relationships
Communication is fundamental for forming human relationships and those
relationships are formed by effective communication. Everyday we share
information and knowledge with our families, friends, coworkers, and sometimes
create new relationships with strangers. People communicate with one another to
express their thoughts and emotions, and as a result, helps us to understand the
ideas and feelings of others. In Season 2, Episode 14 of the comedy The Real O

The next example of verbal communication that is used in the scene is equivocation.
Equivocal language requires using words that have broad meanings that can be
interpreted a number of ways as well as help us out of an uncomfortable situation
(O Hair, Wiemann, Mullin, Teven, 2015, p.74). Jimmy gives Kenny the
reinforcemnt he needs to walk through the doors of the Lonely Hearts club and that
everything will be okay. However, when he enters the room, the club is decorated
with red balloons and hearts everywhere. Jimmy immediately tries to right the
situation by saying, It s not a big deal, its just a bunch of balloons (Sudduth, 2017).
His dad continues to join in on the conversation trying to make light of the situation
by telling Kenny to just think of it as Heart Disease Awareness week. But everything
they tell Kenny only reminded him of his past memories with Brett, the ex
boyfriend. Jimmy continues to change the subject by showing Kenny how the heart
balloons take on different shapes. Turn it upside down, it s a butt. Turn it out,
boobies!, says Jimmy (Sudduth, 2017). His brother tells him there is more fish in
the sea (Sudduth, 2017). But Kenny is reminded that fish is Brett s favorite food and
the sea is his favorite place. It is obvious that Jimmy and dad, Pat want to keep Kenny
happy without experiencing a meltdown and ruin their night. They both use equivocal
A Brief Note On Pollution Across The World
Pollution Across the World
The Industrial Revolution was the spearhead for several generations of heavy
pollution. The engines that are being used to make work easier emit large amounts of
carbon dioxide (CO2). The Earth s atmosphere is designed to handle a fair amount of
carbon dioxide, but in the past century people have produced much more than it can
manage. Global warming has become a recurring topic in many news stories since the
late 1990 s. With the spotlight on emission control vehicle manufacturers have started
designing much more fuel efficient engines. Hybrid vehicles that use both an internal
combustion engine and an electric power source have become highly popular
amongst commuters. According to the Washington Post, the Environmental
Protection Agency (EPA) has required the U.S auto fleet to average 54.5 mpg by the
year 2025 (Eilperrin). This will put a lot of pressure on engineers to make an engine
that has a high output and is efficient. It is vital that something is done about the vast
amount of pollution that is plaguing the world. If we continue destroying the
environment at our current rate, there is only a number of decades left in our future.
The United States is known for its lavish lifestyle. From a very young age most
children enjoy things a lot of countries do not have. With this plush experience
comes a hefty price. Of the top eleven heaviest polluted places in The United States
of America, the first five are all in California
Love Sonnets In Shakespeare s Sonnet 130 By William...
Sonnets written in Elizabethan England were usually after Petrarch s works.
Petrarch was a man who was in love with a girl name Laura de Noves. He wrote
366 poems about his love for this woman from the year 1327 all the way until
1368. His works were very stereotypical love poems that included lines like, She
ruled in beauty o er this heart of mine, / A noble lady in a humble home, / And now
her time for heavenly bliss has come, / Tis I am mortal proved, and she divine.
Petrarch wrote in such a way to charm a woman, as did many other writers of his
time. However, there is one writer who took a different approach when writing
about the woman he admired. This man considered on the greatest writers in the
English language; William Shakespeare s Sonnet 130 is a reverse portrayal of
Petrarch s ideas of a love sonnet and what it should be. Shakespeare s Sonnet 130 is
often also referred to as My mistress eyes, which adds emphasis to the first line, My
mistress eyes are nothing like the sun. As the opening line, this makes readers
aware of what they are about to encounter throughout the sonnet. In this work
Shakespeare is simply mocking the work of writers like Petrarch, and we as
readers love it. Metaphors making comparisons to nature are often used to show
the beauty of something when writing. William Shakespeare s Sonnet 130, makes
the same comparisons, however he makes the metaphors in favor of the natural
features rather than his mistress. Shakespeare isn t being rude to his mistress by
doing so; he is taking things at face value and being blatantly honest. The sonnet
has been included below for easier comparison. Notice that each negative metaphor
in the first part of the sonnet takes up only one line, and does not rhyme. Later in
the poem Shakespeare expands the comparisons to two lines. This has multiple
effects on the poem such as allowing it to expand. By allowing expansion, the
sonnet is prevented from being stagnant. Although Shakespeare was mocking other
writer s forms of love poems, I feel that he had a much deeper and more meaningful
purpose to his sardonic writing. Shakespeare wanted to show that women can be
beautiful without having cheeks as red as rose, or eyes

they might die. I would say no one will murder if one of them actually die. They
could eat the person who die first and the rest of them would survive in stead of
murdering someone. They would just be immoral instead of committing murder. Base

Arrow Paradox Baby Bash
Artist: Baby Bash
Song: In Motion
Lyric: I m in motion/Sippin love potion
Topic: Arrow Paradox
The concept of arrow paradox claims that when objects occupy an equal space at rest
and locomotion is constant at the moment; then a flying arrow will be declared to be
motionless. Zeno claims that at any instant an object is motionless because it cannot
move to a place that it is not due to the fact that time has not elapsed. On the other
hand, an object cannot move to where the object already is because that would
create a paradox, seeing as the object is already there. It is impossible to observe
any form of motion when the time is paused. Furthermore, if space is occupied by the
objects then also the arrow should be dormant. Thus, the entire elaboration of this
notion creates a fallacy. One can conclude form the arrow paradox that motion is
impossible because everything is motionless at each instant, and time in essence is
the sum of many instances. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are multiple lyrics in the song referring to how someone or something is in

moment a flying arrow, for example, is motionless; The lyric from In Motion can be
related in the sense that at the given moment when the artist is conveying the
message that he/she is in motion, they are actually motionless, because at any given
moment an object or person in motionless. Furthermore, at any given moment, the
love potion is motionless, which would make it impossible for the subject of the

Elderly In Modern America
Older people in modern America are viewed much differently than they once were
in the past. Grandparents went from giving every grandchild a very valuable life
lesson to being ignored in the streets and at the dinner table. Everyone is so
worried about what s on their phone or tablet that they do not realize how little
attention this generation of elders is receiving. Could the recent upgrade in
technology be the result of modern America s neglect towards elders or is it how
little people care? Television shows, ads, and movies compromise our national
image of the elderly. Television shows often depict the older relative as doddering
and feeble... (Lauren Stiller Rikleen). In many movies and shows, elders are shown
as churlish and sickly.
Human Brain And Human Brains
We, the human species are unique. This is a phrase we all have heard at some point
in our lives. We are unique compared to other animals in our language, movements,
and emotions. We have our own language which the majority of animals do not, we
stand on two legs while the majority of the animals are on four legs, and we are
much more sensitive to our emotional reactions, making us complex animals. Now,
where does all these differences come from? As the title suggest, our human brains
are incredible in the way they process information. This article aims to discuss the
differences of human braincompared to other animal brains, and what makes us
humans so unique in our responsive reactions in how we process information. More
specifically, this paper will examine the influences the environment has on our human
brains and how the changing environment influences our brain evolution in how we
respond.
Firstly, it is important to understand the evolution and development of human brain.
An interesting idea is that our human brains are becoming smaller in size through
evolution of time. It is commonly believed that more content requires bigger space.
Let s take an example. A bowl that needs to fit ten identical objects needs to be
bigger to a bowl that only needs to fit five identical objects. Likewise, our human
brain has continued to develop through evolution and has much more complex
capabilities as well as content to carry since the birth of our species in the Stone Age.

The Pros And Cons Of Good And Evil Decisions
Whenever choosing to do something, there are always factors which must be taken
into consideration. The factors could range from effects that a certain action can
have on the individual or to the greater effect that it could have on the public.
Innately many individuals might believe that they know what is good and wrong,
both for their own life and others. However, the real properties of good and evilor
right and wrong, seem to vary between one person and another. To philosophers such
as Ludwig Wittgenstein and William David Ross, the solutions to these differing
views are simple. The good and evildecision as well as the motivation to act in
whichever way were viewed by Wittgenstein as being relied upon by judgements of
relative value while Ross saw it as being related to this prima facia duty.
To Wittgenstein, there is an importance in the judgements of relative value as they
are a representation of the facts. He illustrated the importance of the mere facts in
his example of the big book which would contain the whole description of the
world... it would contain all relative judgments of value and all true scientific
propositions... and all true propositions that can be made (6). In other words, it would
not contain any judgements and especially ethical judgements but rather only the
facts which are a part of the situation or event. Leading towards the inevitable result
of: all facts being on the same level. Thus, there is no value that a certain fact can
have that

very successful in the enhancement of the airports security in the U.S. and across the

The Education System Of The United States Essay
Purpose of Education
As a developed nation, the United States owes its success to the education system
that has evolved with our nation. While at times conflict consumes our nation,
tragedy occurs, and hardships arise we can rest assured that our elected officials and
citizens are making intelligent decisions that uphold our values, rights, and liberty.
These leaders have been elected to operate our democratic society which is propelled
forward by education. Education serves as the single most important factor of our
society s framework.
How our Education System Developed and Why
Thomas Jefferson referred to education as a diffusion of knowledge in the bill he
proposed to the Virginia legislature in 1779 (Jefferson, 1779, p.20). He meant that
by diffusing the knowledge amongst the people they will be able to protect the
values, liberties, and rights that had been granted to them. Jefferson s ideas were
derived from the English education system. His bill did not pass Virginia s
legislature, but it shows us Thomas Jefferson s views about education, and because of
his efforts it was not long until there was a national push for education from the north,
starting with the Boston schools.
The Common School Movement
The common school movement was based on the idea that all people are guaranteed
the right to an education. There were two prominent voices driving the common
school movement, Catherine Beecher, and Horace Mann. Horace Mann believed that
education was essential to

Justice Is The Legal Or Philosophical Theory Of Justice
Justice is the art which gives to each man what is good for his soul. Discuss.
Justice is the art which gives to each man what is good for his soul and that is
simply to say that justice is identical with, or inseparable with philosophy. (Cahn,
Political Philosophy, 1 136) Justice is an order and duty of the parts of the soul; it is
to the soul as medicine preserves the health of the body. In its current and cardinal
definition is a just behavior or treatment; a concern for justice, peace, and genuine
respect for people. (Oxford Dictionary, Justice ) Justice is the legal or philosophical
theory by which fairness is administered. However, justice is polymorphic;
depending on eras and civilizations also differing in every culture. Although there
some principles of justice that can be found to be almost universal. An early theory
of justice was set out by the Ancient Greek philosopher Plato in his work The
Republic. Plato was highly dissatisfied with the prevailing degenerating conditions in
Athens. The Athenian democracy was on the verge of ruin and was ultimately
responsible for Socrates death his mentor. Plato saw in justice the only remedy of
saving Athens from decay and ruin. Evidently, factors such as amateurishness,
political selfishness and excessive individualism became main targets of Plato s

The War Of France And Louis Xiv
The wars in France were one of the main causes to which economic distress arose.
France did not just simply acquire a substantial debt suddenly which led to
economic distress but gradually over time the financial situation in France
worsened due to events such as the Seven Years War 1756 1763, American
Revolution 1775 1783 and The Nine Years War (1688 1697) which would lead to
long term negative financial implications for France. Louis XIV had extended
France s power into Central Europe and North America. This power came about
through wars which landed France with a self inflicted debt which would cripple
its economy. When Louis XIV died in 1715 the state of the economy was dire and
the subsequent fiscal decisions by Louis XV and Louis XVI aggravated the
situation. France was in a constant state of war and debt and the immunity of taxes
on the nobility and clergy deprived France of funds that it so desperately needed.
France s status as superpower was at threat as Russia, Prussia and above all Great
Britain where becoming increasingly powerful, Frances strong desire to retain this
power explains the ill advised and catastrophic foreign policies it had adopted. In the
American war of independence in 1775 to 1783 France directed its forces to assist
the Americans. French aid was pivotal in compelling the British to surrender at
Yorktown in 1781. However although the Americans gained much from France s
support it led to no successful tangible results for France but it had
The Sherwin Williams Paint Company
The Sherwin Williams Paint Company was started in 1866 by Henry Sherwin and
Edward Williams in Cleveland, OH. Since the company s inception there has
always been a focus on providing customers with high quality goods and services.
As one can imagine the organization has undergone some changes since its
inception to becoming one of the top paint manufactures in the United States. The
company kicked off 2016 with a bang by naming its 9th Chief Executive Officer
(CEO) of the company, John Morikis, on January 1st and making former CEO
Chris Connor executive chairman of the board (Cho, 2015). Also, mentioned by

greatest marketing achievements actually came as an unplanned and unexpected

during a Cleveland Indians baseball game when a centerfielder for the team leaped

Into The Wild By Chris Mccandless
Into the Wild details the events that lead to the death of the pretentious Chris
McCandless. An overconfident vagabond, McCandless causes his own death.
Krakauer does his best to turn McCandless into a sympathetic, relatable figure, by
appealing to the reader s logic and emotion, but ultimately fails. By exploring
McCandless personality and background, Krakauer makes an appeal to logos.
From the very start, Krakauer states Alaska has long been a magnet for dreamers
and misfits... (4). Is McCandless not a dreamer and a misfit? He dreams of an
idealistic life in the wilderness. The way he evade[s] the impending threat of human

A frugal introvert such as McCandless should be perfectly suited to a life in the
wild. The ability to lead a spartan lifestyle is something to be admired, but
McCandless does not come across as admirable. Rather, he is spoiled and
obstinate. The fact he had $24,000 of college money to donate upon graduating,
money which was given to him by a family friend no less, shows that McCandless
could not have lead a truly sparse life. There was no fear of a next meal or a lack
of a roof overhead. Anything he wanted, McCandless had access to. His refusal to
give gifts comes across as selfish and ostentation. McCandless letter encouraging
Franz to find joy in travel rather than personal relationships demonstrates his self
righteousness. By putting his lifestyle of choice on a pedestal, McCandless shows
just how little regard he holds for the beliefs of others. McCandless holds the ideals
of a young man squirming to get away from the wealth of his parents, but rather
than use compassion to atone for his privilege, he becomes jaded and cuts off
positive interaction with those he should be able to rely on. Krakauer does his best
to make McCandless past justify his trek into the wild, but succeeds only in making
McCandless look like a brat. Krakauer appeals to pathos by revealing how those close

Swiss Army Man And The Myth Of Cain And Abel
Swiss Army Man the Myth of Cain and Abel
In the first book of the bible, the Book of Genesis, readers are introduced to the
characters of Cain and Abel. The myth of Cain and Abel relates to jealousy and
rage, and how there are always consequences for our actions. The morals that can be
learned from Cain an Abel are still relevant today, but in another format, such as in
the poster for the 2016 film Swiss Army Man. The Swiss Army Man poster and the
myth of Cain and Abel have overlapping themes, such as death and isolation. These
themes are still prominent today, and the poster can serve as a modern day take on
the centuries old myth.
The myth of Cain and Abel originates from the bible, and is best known for being a
story of firsts. Cain ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
God favored Abel s sacrifice of milk and meat over Cain s offering of fruits. This
angered Cain, and presumably out of jealously, he murdered his brother, Abel. Just
as Cain was the first physical birth in the bible, Abel is the first recorded death (and
murder) of the bible. God questions Cain on the death of Abel, and Cain lies and tells
God that he did not murder his brother.
Although is has been interrupted in multiple ways, it is ultimately believed that
Cain s jealously of God favoring his brother s sacrifice in relation to his own is
what lead to his rage and commitment of murder. A main moral in the myth of the
story of Cain and Abel is that jealously can lead to sin. Cain s jealously of Abel is
what causes him to lash out, and later lie to God about his actions to cover up his
original sins.

The Pros And Cons Of Nuclear Power Plants
In a world where global warming is a very real threat and electricity powers
everything, Nuclear power plants are growing in popularity as a source of energy.
Nuclear power plants operate by splitting atoms (atomic fission) as opposed to atomic
fusion, which joins atoms together. This happens when a neutron hits an atom
(usually Uranium235)with enough force that it splits the atom into two new, different
atoms. After this happens, a few neutrons are discarded and are sent flying off,
hitting other atoms and causing a chain reaction. The energy from the reaction
created by splitting the atom is collected, and believe me, it is a lot. Atomic fusion
isn t used because it is harder to fuse atoms together than separate them, and also
because... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are many other sources of energy that are even more clean and renewable than
nuclear power, such as solar power, wind energy and hydroelectric stations over
rivers and dams. These energy sources will operate for years, without the need to
tear them down and rebuild them like nuclear power plants. One downfall is that
they don t produce as much energy as a nuclear power plant, but once you have a
lot of them, we ll be set energy wise for years. In regards to advancement in nuclear

John Of Gaunt Research Paper
John of Gaunt was born in 1340 during a time of great strife, to King Edward III of
England and his wife, Phillippa (Walker). He was raised in the household of his
elder brother, Edward, Prince of Wales, and introduced into military life quite early
(Walker). He was brought up as a prince should be as well as being groomed as a
military man quite early in life well. His first sign of nobility, besides his multiple
titles, was his investiture as a knight of the Garter in April 1361 (Walker). Shortly
after this appointment, he married Blanche of Lancaster, a wealthy heiress of another
English nobleman. This fact is important because it connects Geoffrey Chaucer to his

His marriage had granted him considerable amounts of land, and he inherited the
prestigious title Duke of Lancaster when his father in law died (Walker). Blanche
of Lancaster died in 1369 (Buescher), leaving Gaunt to marry his second wife,
Constance of Castile. She was the daughter of King Pedro of Spain, making her a
princess in her own right. Upon their marriage, Gaunt became King of Castile and
Leon (Buescher). After these two marriages, Gaunt found himself even more rich
and powerful. After recognizing the failing health of his father, the king, and his
brother, the Prince of Wales, he was made the king s captain and lieutenant
(Marks). After his father and brother died, his 11 year old nephew, Richard, took
the throne of England (Marks). Through this, he again had immense power and
strength behind the crown. After his son deposed Richard II, John became even
more powerful, now the father of the King of England. He proved to be an
excellent military and political force, acting as a king behind the scenes ,
particularly for his young nephew Richard II. However, during the English Peasant s
Revolt in 1381, John of Gaunt lost some favor with the English people and his
nephew. Gaunt is generally regarded as the person common people chiefly blamed
Self Evaluation Motivates Performance Essay
Self Evaluation Motivates Performance
To demonstrate that the potential for self evaluation can motivate performance, the
potential for evaluation by external sources must be eliminated. As Bandura (1986)
writes, When environmental constraints are reduced, the influence of self evaluative
motivators becomes most self evident (p. 479). Thus, to determine whether the self
evaluative concerns suggested by social comparison theory motivate performance,
one must ensure that people feel that they cannot be individually evaluated by an
externalsource. Such control of external evaluation is made possible through the use
of the social loafing paradigm (e.g., Latane, Williams, Harkins, 1979).
Social loafing refers to the finding that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Szy@ manski and Harkins (1987) did exactly this in an experiment in which they
asked participants to generate as many uses as they could (i.e., do your best
instructions) for a common object, regardless of the creativity of those uses. Pilot
work with this task showed that participants felt that they knew how many uses they
had generated (their output). Therefore, to manipulate the potential for self evaluation,
Szymanski and Harkins either provided an evaluative criterion by telling participants
that at the end of the session they would be told the average number of uses
generated by participants in a previous version of the experiment, or Szymanksi and
Harkins withheld the criterion by telling participants that to preserve confidentiality
they would not be given this information. When the participants were provided with
the evaluative criterion, they had an opportunity for selfevaluation by social
comparison. This manipulation of the potential for self evaluation was crossed with a
manipulation of the potential for experimenter evaluation. Half of the participants
were told that at the end of the session, the experimenter would come in and count the
number of uses that they had generated (experimenter evaluation), whereas the other
half of the participants were told that the experimenter was interested in average
performance so their individual outputs would be pooled with those of
The Tragedy Of Offensive Realism And The Rise Of China
The tragedy of offensive realism: Classical realism and the rise of China
Realism is one of the most dominant international relations theories in the academic
world. But within Realism, Realists are split on a number of issues. A perfect
example of which being the rise of China. Over the past 30 years China has
increased not only in population and power, but has also achieved one of the
strongest economies in the world. The rise of China is seen as problematic by many
realists. Since the end of the Cold War and the fall of the Soviet Union, the US has
enjoyed a position of hegemony in the unipolar power structure of the world. Many
fear that the rise of China could upset the current balance of power. One such
individual is a prominent realist scholar, John Mearsheimer. He believes that war with
China is inevitable and calls for the US to do whatever it can to slow China s rise.
Another political theorist Jonathan Kirshner wrote this paper to counter many of
Mearsheimer s claims, stating that Mearsheimer s offensive realism is wrong, and
dangerous . Kirshner suggests that instead of using offensive realism we should look
instead to the theories roots in classical realism to analyse the rise of China.
For realists the international system is anarchical, war is an ever present threat and
the survival of a state is never guaranteed. This is why security is the main focus of
most realists. States are forever seeking greater amounts of security, in a never ending
search.

Redemption was made, published, and engineered by a company called Rockstar
Games (Rockstar Website). The major distributor of the game is a company who
happens to own Rockstar, Take Two interactive. Being one of the most successful
video game developers to date, Rockstar is famous for creating the popular and
controversial game series Grand Theft Auto. Rockstar differs very much from other

I played the game on my Xbox 360 console. To capture the experience of the Wild
West, Rockstar consulted some historical experts in the field, along with channelling
a lot of time and money into the graphics of the game. According to a New York
Times online article, Rockstar spent between 80 100 million dollars on developing
the game (Schiesel 2010). I mention this statistic because this comes to show the new
era of devotion Rockstar brought to video game production.
In any video game, soundtracks can be an incredible boost in its overall character.
The soundtracks in Red Dead Redemption are authentic; it gives the game historical
flavour. What I mean by this is you truly get a feeling of the Western experience.
Rockstar brought on composers Woody Jackson and Bill Elm. In a behind the
scenes video, the composers explain that it is essential for them to find a balance,
paying homage to what was there but also trying to add our stamp to the music
(GamerSpawn, 2010). Another interesting fact they mentioned was the ability for the
game to launch certain lines of music to start based on your actions. For example, if
you jump on a horse, a bass line rolls in. If the player is in a shootout, the music
intensifies. The music helps reinforce the player s connection with the historic west
by creating familiar sounds associated with the Western era.
Before I mention the problem spaces of the game, I would like to continue back to

Netflix s Success And Difficulties
INTRODUCTION In many ways, Netflix is an amazing company to analyze. By
being disruptive, the company has changed drastically the disc rental business and
the streaming industry. In addition, the ecommerce business model Netflix has
developed was one of a kind, focusing mainly on the consumer s needs and
experience. Now, it might seem obvious that ecommerce marketers should focus
on these aspects but at the time it was a first. If one is not convince that Netflix is
an online retailer like no other, I could always argue with the 2013 online sales
made by the top 15 U.S. retailers (figure below). Most of the companies listed
below are either click and mortar companies, or pure players. They sell or rent
office furniture, hardware software, clothes, food. Only Netflix stands out, by
providing a subscription based model where people can access thousands of
movies either by disc rental or by streaming. This essay will provide insights and
sufficient background to understand Netflix s success and difficulties the company
is facing. BUSINESS / CLIENT DESCRIPTION NETFLIX S HISTORY

California. It is said that the idea came to Hastings after having to pay $40 in
overdue fines for returning Apollo 13 to late. Netflix was originally a website

traditional pay per rental model. In the early 2000, Netflix dropped this model and
Causes Of Population Growth
Population Growth
Introduction
The population of Britain grew rapidly between 19th century and early 20th century.
There are many reasons and factors that effected the growth of the demographic.
Another factor that caused population growth rapidly was people choose to give
birth at younger age. It led to birth rate increase and population increase too. By 1875
Public Health Act introduced: more clean water, more public toilet, more frequently
rubbish removal and sewer drain available. It meant that people s health and
sanitation were better. Then life expectancy became longer. From the list of factors, it
may has any argument whether which factor led to rapid population growth.

Another reason, food and jobs created were helping population growth was in late
19th century railways and steamships made it possible import cheap foods
extended to all places. Then more people able to afforded to buy food. This meant
less people was starved and population would grow because people were eating
more healthy food. Additionally, during 19th century transport were greatly
improved. This made travel faster. From this point of view when railway mania
introduced many routed was created because more rich people invested. Then
many jobs were created and this meant less people were unemployed. All the
people from now have: food, job, money..... Then they wouldn t be died at young
age. The government banned children to work was a good point because it reduce
the chance of death at young age. Also transport made food cheaper by import
meat and grain through steamship and railway extended elsewhere in Britain.
During railway mania period, created a lot of job for people who were unemployed
to get going again. From the factor above it help increased population and more
people employed. That meant people able to afford to buy food and less death.
Overall food and jobs created did helps a lot with population growth. However,
people have anything they need in their daily life such as food, job, money..... Then
population would keeps grew without many people died.

There are many variables that directly and indirectly impact the choices people and

the environment some students don t form their own opinions after learning and

The almost universal mainstream acclaim for Traffic indicates just how much the

the drug of the ruling class in America is undoubtedly more than a function of its

closer to the effects of the most popular of the legal drugs of choice: caffeine and

the user a great deal of energy. However, unlike other forms of speed, cocaine also

Branagh s Soliloquy In Hamlet
A famous part of the play Hamlet by William Shakespeare is the soliloquy in which
Hamlet himself proclaims, To be or not to be that is the question. Here the reader
sees Hamlet for the truly unstable and confused man he is. Also, the reader is able
to compare Shakespeare s version of the soliloquy to the production of it by actor
Kenneth Branagh. Seeing both the video clip and the text, allows the reader to
experience a deeper overall meaning than just one medium by itself. In the Folger s
edition of Hamlet, the soliloquyis in Act 3 Scene 1 where Claudius is realizing the
true threat that Hamlet is towards him. Hamlet is slipping into a state of haze
where the more he knows about other people s actions, the more he will think and
be in his head. Hamlet is thinking about the actions of his uncle who killed his
father and the presence of the ghost, wondering if it would be better for him to die
instead of continuing to go mad. He says, To die, To... Show more content on

Kenneth Branagh proclaims his lines while staring directly into a mirror. The
crazed look in his eyes as he debates whether it is better to live or to die,
exemplifies how unsteady Hamlet is. Furthermore, he intensifies the scene by
pulling out a dagger and swirling it around his head. It is almost as if he is toying
with death, knowing that stabbing himself with the dagger could cause him to die.
The viewer is able to see that Hamlet is not completely there and that he is
overtaken by his madness. Alone, the scene is very influential and lets the readers
see how the text plays out. Pairing the text with this scene gives an image of the
emotions Hamlet could have been feeling. It puts more into the overall presentation
of the soliloquy by making it more real life as if one was seeing it as a play. Every
actor chooses a different way to portray this scene but Kenneth Branagh decided to
depict Hamlet going
How Does Jean Valjean Save Cosette From The Thenardier
In Victor Hugo s Les Miserables, Jean Valjean saves Cosette from the Thenardiers,
just as I helped redeem a mistreated girl from her abusive parents.
After the bishop inspires Jean Valjean with the notion of God s redemption, the
protagonist begins a series of redemptive acts, with the rescue of Cosette from the
Thenardiers carrying the most weight of his own life. Circumstances force Fantine to
leave Cosette with the Thenardiers. This reckless family forces Cosette to eat off of
the ground like a dog, mop all their floors, and they treat her like a useless peasant.
Jean Valjeanrescues Cosette by paying Thenardier for her freedom. Jean Valjean
dedicates his entire life to providing for and protecting Cosette. She in turn gives him
the strength
Media Objectivity
How has the media s objectivity been affected by the explosion of information
sources? Will individuals increasingly live in worlds of their own ideological and
moral construction by further isolating themselves from competing ideas? Are we
entering an era of choose your truth ? How does information technology further
expand the same rifts between civilizations and between individuals in the same
communities? How does it bridge those divides?
The media has been adversely affected by the explosion of information sources. It has
become a tedious and cumbersome endeavor to accurately locate information sources
that can stand to even the slightest bit of scrutinizing. For those who attempt to report

As information technology continues to expand, we find that almost anyone can be a
self claimed expert in almost any field, without the cumbersome technicality of
having an educational background on the matter they choose to discuss. This issue is
further exacerbated when those individuals are given a public platform to convey
their poorly substantiated opinions. Now it is important, as it has always been that
the individual must take it upon their self to properly research the subject matter
before developing an opinion. In this case, information technology has provided
people with the ability to easily obtain information from reliable sources.
Information technology has changed the context in which governments must operate.
Individual citizens and groups now have the ability to quickly organize and contest
or influence the direction and mode of governance. From 24/7 news to flash mobs
to blogs to political tell alls, the rapid flow of information demands rapid results from
systems of governance. How has information technology compressed the ability of
governments and organizations across the board to implement long term strategic
planning? How has information technology redefined sovereign and cultural borders?
How can the government leverage information technology to fight back ? What kinds
of skills and resources are needed by both the people sending the message
Hairspray Film Techniques
The film Hairspray directed by Adam Shankman, is set in June 1962 in Baltimore,
America. During this time, the Negroes were segregated from the white people.
There was extensive discrimination. Adam Shankman used effective film techniques
that helped me to understand a key idea that is that all people should be treated
equally regardless of their raceand colour. These techniques include the use of prop,
costume and dialogue.
The first effective film technique that helped me to understand the key idea was
props. The props used were placards and candles. During the protest for integration
of Negro Day on the Corny Collins show, placards were used with messages written
on them. Some of the messages were, Integration not Segregation , Black and White
Unite and Do the checkerboard . These placards were held by people supporting
integration, stating that integration should happen between the Negroes and the
white people. Another prop used during the protest march were candles to represent
peace. The candles were used by the protesters to show that they wanted to say that

In the ending sequence of the film, Tracy was wearing a black and white
checkerboard dress at the Miss Teenage Hairspray pageant. Tracy wore this dress
and danced happily with all the people there, black and white, everyone. Also, at
this ending scene Corny Collins announced that the Corny Collins show would be
officially integrated from then on, showing the supportment of the key idea. The
dress had only colours of black and white. This represented that Negroes and white
people should be united together. The black checkerboard pieces of the dress
represented the Negroes, while the white parts represented the white people. It was
mixed to show integration. This portrayed a clear message that black and white
people should be united as one and not apart, showing another strong relation to the

Persuasive Essay On Fast Food
When was the last time you picked up fast food for a quick meal? Was it yesterday
for lunch, today for dinner? According to nutrition writer Alex Lenhoff the average
American eats fast food 159 times a year. That s [three] times a week (Lenhoff).
Americans are consistently eating fast food, without realizing the effects it has on
their bodies. Sure, a large order of fries may taste delicious while indulging them, but
what about the delicious calories and fat that come along with it? The National Health
Service has stated the average male adult needs approximately 2,500 calories
[daily] (NHS). A normal fast food meal contains roughly fifteen hundred calories.
That means in just one quick stop, they have consumed almost half of their limit
for the entire day. Therefore, it is no shocker that one in three Americans in the
United States are obese. Fast food has become a large contributor to obesity in
America. The intake of its unhealthy effects must be lessened, resolved by simply
making it more expensive. Americans will not choose to eat out as much, if it
significantly burns a hole in their pocket. Placing a higher tax on fast food will not
only resolve American obesity but will also put a stop to unhealthy lifestyles. With
the higher taxation of fast food, it would raise the prices of items on the menu, so
that you could not purchase an entire meal for dirt cheap. Now days fast food is
publicized for being remarkably cheaper than buying groceries to cook with.
Personal Statement On Personal And Social Holiness
In my last, in process paper I discussed how my pursuit of personal and social
holiness developed my calling in ministry. As I reflect on the journey of discovering
my call to ministry, I cannot help but to reflect on the mountaintops and valleys the
Lord I have walked. It is refreshing and convicting at the same time as I read through
the texts for this module, knowing that the Holy Spiritis at work refining me more
like Christ, and also affirming the choices and decisions I have made to be where I
am today. As you read through this paper my hope is that one will see my personal
/social victories and failures, and how God has been at work molding me like a
potter. I grew up in a Christian home, or at least a partial Christian home. I say that
because my mom had me in church every Sunday, but my dad really did not take
part in it unless it was Christmas or Easter. I mention this, because it was in that
partial Christian home, where I was first exposed to pornography. As I reflected on
the content of this module, my journey of overcoming temptations, and being
forgiven for poor decisions strikes a chord as I reflect on the process of integrity,
and part of that journey has been filled with the pollution of porn. Author Headley,
describes Grace not so evident in its arrival, but transforming in power (Headley,
180). This description resonates with me as I found myself in sin many times, and
the transforming power of grace seemed to always sneak up when I least suspected it.
Thin Layer Chromatography In Drug Screening
Drug screening, which is generally used in criminal situations, health care and the
workplace has recently become more common. The ease of use and fast results have
increased the use of immunoassays; however, these can cause false positive results.
This can lead to severe consequences if they are not confirmed by secondary analysis,
such as gas chromatographymass spectrometry(GCMS). The drugs screened during
this experiment were ketamine, methadone, diazepam, codeine and imipramine. This
report discusses the use of thin layer chromatographyas a drug screen technique. The
results obtained from this are compared to the secondary analysis from GCMS which
show that the drugs from the unknown sample were ketamine, methadone and
codeine. The main techniques are examined to gain a better understanding of the
methods used. Potential false positive and false negative results that can occur are
also discussed.
Introduction
A drug screen is an analysis of a physiological fluids such as urine, blood, sweat, or
saliva to determine the presence or absence of specified drugs or their metabolites.
The main applications of drug testing include police officers testing for the presence
and concentration of alcohol in the blood, detection of the presence of performance
enhancing drugs in sport and employers screening staff for illegal drugs.
When there are a large number of samples for drug screening, immunoassay
techniques are favoured as they are cheaper and faster. This is

article agrees with the other sources for this essay. This report provides a good

Plainchant Compare And Contrast
The plainchants Viderunt Omnes by Anonymous and O viridissima virga by
Hildegard of Bingen are both compositions that were created during the Medieval
Age, also known as the Middle Age. The purpose of these pieces were to be served
usually in Roman Catholic Churches as music of worship. Although these two songs
are known as plainchants, meaning they are usually monophonic and the melody
usually does not change, both pieces have many similarities and differences. In my
personal opinion, I believe that these two piece are more different than they are
similar. For example, Viderunt Omnes is polyphonic for a majority of its duration
because it sounds to be sung in unison by a choir and not by a singular person. O
viridissima virga on the other
Social And Psychological Needs For Clean Drinking Water
Humans are complex beings because unlike animals, we need more than just food
and water to survive. Most living creatures depend on food and water to meet their
fundamental needs for survival. Likewise, humans also require these basic needs,
but we also have large egos that need to be satisfied. As privileged members of a
well developed society, we do not see how fortunate we are to have easy access to
unlimited amounts of fresh clean water. All of our basic needs are easily met, so the
focus for most of us is to fulfil our social and psychological needs. Can you imagine
the women and children lined up at the verge of dehydration, burning in the hot
African sun for clean drinking water? Did you feel pity for the helpless population,
desperately in need of an essential? Would you feel that same pity for the helpless
crowds in first world countries trying to be socially accepted? Whatever the
answer may be, we have become paralyzed, paralyzed by the desire to be wanted.
In this way, we become very self centred because, while the literal thirst for people in
developing nations is a major issue of concern, the thirst for social acceptancein our
westernized world seems to be the primary focus of our society. Therefore, the sense
of belonging is now becoming more destructive than dehydration.
To begin with, one of the most vital and influential time of one s life is during their
school years as it is the portal to finding one s identity. My first few days of grade
Alaska s State Turtle Is The Largest Of Four Species Of...
Have you ever heard of a Western painted Turtle? Well if you are from Colorado you
should know what they are! Western painted turtles are Colorado s state turtle. How
did that come about? Well in 2007 Jay Baichis 4th grade class came together because
they wanted these colorful turtles to be our state turtles. Why? Because these beautiful
turtles are found by many lakes, ponds, and water bays around Colorado. They have
bright beautiful colors just like Colorado. The Western Painted Turtlebecame our
state turtle a year later after the 4th graders went through all the legal ways and the
process to make it happen. The 4th graders had gone to governor Ritter on March
18, 2008 and told him why the turtles should be our state turtle, and Ritter had signed
the HB 08 1017. Now let s get into more detail about our state reptile.
The Western Painted Turtle is the largest of four species of turtles. They can grow
up to about 8 inches and the males are generally smaller than the females. Their
shells are nice and smooth and are about 250mm long. They are called painted
turtles because their lower shell is a bright red with yellow and olive green colored
designs spread through their shells. They have yellow lines on each side of their
neck that are about the same size that go all the way to their head. They are cold
blooded animals so they cannot control their body temperature. They have to go
under the mud or sand to keep themselves warm. Western Painted Turtles are aquatic
reptiles so

Why Is Gatsby Great Essay. Analysis of The Great Gatsby - Free Essay Example - 1369 Words ...

  • 1. Why Is Gatsby Great Essay Crafting an essay on the greatness of Gatsby is a challenging endeavor that requires a delicate balance between literary analysis, thematic exploration, and a deep understanding of F. Scott Fitzgerald's masterpiece, "The Great Gatsby." The difficulty lies in capturing the elusive essence of Jay Gatsby's greatness, which is intricately woven into the fabric of the novel. One must navigate the complex web of Gatsby's character, exploring his enigmatic past, his unrequited love for Daisy Buchanan, and the grandiose parties that mask his inner turmoil. The challenge intensifies when attempting to dissect the symbolism embedded in every aspect of the story – from the green light at the end of Daisy's dock to the opulent mansions of East and West Egg. Moreover, a successful essay on Gatsby's greatness demands a nuanced understanding of the Jazz Age, the American Dream, and the social dynamics of the Roaring Twenties. Unveiling the layers of societal critique that Fitzgerald subtly integrates into the narrative requires a keen eye for detail and a profound appreciation for the historical context. Crafting a compelling argument necessitates not only a thorough analysis of Gatsby's character but also an exploration of Fitzgerald's writing style, narrative techniques, and the broader cultural implications of the novel. Juggling these elements and weaving them into a coherent and insightful essay is undoubtedly a formidable task. In conclusion, tackling the question of why Gatsby is great in an essay demands a comprehensive grasp of literature, history, and symbolism. It requires the writer to delve deep into the complexities of the novel, extracting profound insights and presenting them in a structured and compelling manner. It is an intellectual challenge that demands both analytical prowess and a profound appreciation for the nuances of Fitzgerald's literary masterpiece. For those seeking assistance in navigating this intricate task or any similar writing challenges, a wealth of resources is available. Expertly crafted essays, guidance on literary analysis, and support for academic writing endeavors can be found at HelpWriting.net, where a team of skilled writers is ready to assist with a myriad of topics and assignments. • 2. The Presence Of A Gun Essay Scholars have often debated whether guns influence an individual to commit a violence act. It is hypothesized that an individual in the presence of a firearm, has an increased likelihood of exhibiting anti social behaviors. The studies presented, will investigate whether the presence of a gun, is a stimulus for aggressive behaviors (Berkowitz Lepage, 1967; Anderson, Benjamin Bartholow, 1998; Bartholow, Anderson, Carnagey Benjamin, 2005). Studies regarding whether gunownership influences the likelihood of abnormal behaviors in adolescence will be examined (Cunningham, Henggler, Limber, Melton Nation, 2000; Sprinkles, 2007). Gun ownership rates and various violent acts will also be investigated, such as homicide rates and suicide rates (Hemenway Miller, 2000; Killias, Van Kesteren Rindlisbacher, 2001; Gius, 2009; Siegel, Ross King, 2013). Extrinsic factors including race/ethnicity, culture, and the environment will additionally be addressed (Cunningham et al., 2000; Sprinkles, 2007; Rajan, Namdar Ruggles, 2015). After all research has been analyzed, it will be apparent that the presence of a firearmis correlated to aggressive behaviors. Before delving into gun ownership rates, it is important to discuss the history of experiments regarding gun presence and aggression. An early experiment conducted by Berkowitz Lepage (1967), investigated whether the presence of a weaponelicited hostile behaviors. The study observed 100 male students, who were attending
  • 3. Ghost By Adichie Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie s Ghosts is a short story centered on a dialogue between aging professor James Nwoye and Ikenna Okoro, an acquaintance whom he had thought long dead. Through their conversation, we gain perspective on Nwoye s history (specifically, during a civil war), and though no action takes place in the present, we experience the events through the lens of his memories. Ghosts is unusual in that this primary sequence of events does not take place in the story s present, which involves characters that do not appear or speak in the story, driving the plot forward through Nwoye s memories and creating a timeless, surreal mood that illustrates the mindset of the narrator. In many aspects, Ghosts appears to follow a typical short... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They also simulate the structure of memory. The point of view and tone resemble hearing a firsthand story told aloud, and Adichie s flashbacks and tangents add to this effect. As such, there is some danger of an unreliable narrator; though Adichie can speak volumes with few words, they can be misleading and tend to rely on allowing the reader to fill in illustrative preconceptions, the problem with which, she says in a TED talk, is not that they are untrue, but that they are incomplete (Adichie 13:05). We are limited by Nwoye s perspective, which may be deteriorating as he blurs the lines between memory and reality. Whether in the present or in memory, Ebere has a profound effect on the plot. The story of her life with her husband, as told by Nwoye, is one of the most prominent recurring storylines, and although it is told in parallel to the conversation with Ikenna that is the most real in terms of events, it is arguably the dominant
  • 4. Suitcase General Clinic Case Study To examine and evaluate my research question, I ended up deciding upon using three different clinics as my field sites: the Berkeley Free Clinic, the Suitcase General Clinic, and the Suitcase Youth/LGBTQ+ Clinic primarily due to their geographical proximity and because they were excellent examples of organizations which, despite their similarity in terms of services offered, have vastly different organizational structures and work cultures. The setting of my first field site, or the Berkeley Free Clinic, was a largely run down basement area under a church. The very entrance to the clinic was relatively ominous, dirty, and had a series of doors monitored by dusty, degenerating security cameras that one had to pass through before they could gain... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... My second field site of observation, or the Suitcase General Clinic, a large gym area situated in a church near campus, though also relatively run down and dilapidated, was markedly different, as rather than possessing a waiting lobby surrounded by cubicles which defined the appropriate location of where patient volunteer interaction should take place, the Suitcase General Clinic had a large common room where volunteers and clients alike interacted and moved freely around. Furthermore, though this field site also had various different stations like the Berkeley Free Clinic, such as a housing division, legal consultation team, hair cutting services, and foot washing, these stations were all relatively open to the clients, not sealed off or necessarily restrictive in their scope of access; one did not have to make an appointment prior to coming into clinic. My last field site, or the Suitcase Youth/LGBTQ+ Clinic, was relatively similar to the General Clinic, its only difference being that it was held in a smaller gym area, it had different, distinct decorations (LBGT flags), and that the music played appealed to a younger
  • 5. Analysis Of The Gospel Of Wealth By Andrew Carnegie Andrew Carnegie is broadly known as an unmistakable tycoon and a steel head honcho who picked up acclaim for his trademark state of mind towards riches and obligation that is related with it. The accompanying Andrew Carnegie paper will talk about the issues identified with the most eminent work of this unmistakable figure The Gospel of Wealth. Current article on Andrew Carnegiedoes not seek after an objective of breaking down the history of this renowned individual however is somewhat gone for examining how his paper The Gospel of Wealth has changed the way the wealthiest individuals of the world consider assigning riches and being in charge of it. The article composed by Andrew Carnegie was an endeavor to impart another type of generosity in the independent moguls and pioneers of the business world. He composed his paper in 1889, however from numerous points of view, it is as yet important even in the 21st century. It is realized that when Andrew Carnegie passed on in 1919, he had spent most his cash (more than $350 million) on helping the less favored social gatherings and the rest of the $30 million was coordinated to different philanthropy associations. Andrew Carnegie was an astute and shrewd businessperson. In this manner, he spent the most recent years of his life paying back the cash he had gotten. The paper underneath will examine the commitment of Andrew Carnegie in light of his article The Gospel of Wealth . The significant thought of Carnegie s exposition
  • 6. The latter part of the 19th century (1870-1900) is... The latter part of the 19th century (1870 1900) is generally viewed as a dark time in American History. Called the Gilded Age this was a time in which increasing wealth was plagued by many problems under the surface. The Gilded Age saw increasing industrialization, urbanization, immigration, and the problems associated with them. Many people during this time period blamed these problems on the government for being laissez faire; for not taking steps against industry in order to benefit the interests of the people. Although the people were correct in the fact that the government was not taking steps in order to benefit them, the claim that the government during the Gilded Age was laissez faire is completely false. Through their... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thus, through the acquisition of wealth for the wealthy, the poor are able to obtain the necessities of life, and society is advanced. While The Theory of Moral Sentiments deals mainly with the moral argument for laissez faire, The Wealth of Nations justifies the usage of laissez faire at the national level through economic arguments. In Book 4 of The Wealth of Nations (Of systems of political Economy), Smith argued that government restrictions hindered industrial expansion and thus, harmed the economy in the long run (in earlier books, Smith had equated the growth of industry to the wealth of a nation and its individuals through historical analysis). Specifically, he stated that protectionist tariffs served against the interests of a nation by causing increasing prices of foreign and domestic goods, that export duties harm the economy by diminishing the goods that a company can ship overseas, that trade treaties harm the economy by giving a foreign nation a trade monopoly over an industry (since the other country will only be trading with them for that particular good), and that by restricting the
  • 7. The Beating Heart Of The Seven Gables The Beating Heart of The House of the Seven Gables Nathaniel Hawthorne extensively weaves symbolism into the pages of The House of the Seven Gables to bring the house and the items within it to life. The use of gothic elements within the house directly reflects upon the decaying of the Pyncheon family. Their once lively home stands as a constant reminder of the family s legacy. The Pyncheon mansion strongly represents the decaying of the Pyncheon family over time. In the early 1800 s, when the house was first built, the Pyncheons were a thriving, wealthy, and influential family. However, as time goes on, the house starts to become an eerie residence in the same way the Pyncheon s glory fades. The author describes the darkness of the... Hepzibah realizes the contrast between the two of them, and on Clifford s return demands Phoebe to greet him first by saying, Pheobe; for you are young and rosy, and cannot help letting a smile break out whether or no. He always liked bright faces! And mine is old now, the tears are hardly dry on it (page 70). In the yard outside the house stands an overgrown elm tree symbolizing the growth of the darkness in the Pyncheon family. The great tree blocks the sun from shining into the home. Hawthorne symbolizes this as the burden and secrets that cast a dark shadow over the family. When the tree first sprouts upon the lawn and grows, beauty radiates from it in the same way the Pyncheons first radiate their glory. Inside the house remains the memory of Alice Pyncheon found within her coffin like harpsichord. The harpsichord plays beautiful melodies that still echo through the house. They serve as a constant reminder of Alice s spirit. However, the instrument representing a coffin reminds those who wonder about Alice s legacy of her tragic ending. By using a coffin like harpsichord, Hawthorne employs a dual symbol to an item. Much like how the house causes unease to those who dare glance in its direction, the painting of Colonel Pyncheon lets off the same threatening vibe. The glare the old Pyncheon holds in the portrait keeps people who observe the artwork from attempting to remove it from the wall. Hawthorne writes, there
  • 8. Communication Is Fundamental For Forming Human Relationships Communication is fundamental for forming human relationships and those relationships are formed by effective communication. Everyday we share information and knowledge with our families, friends, coworkers, and sometimes create new relationships with strangers. People communicate with one another to express their thoughts and emotions, and as a result, helps us to understand the ideas and feelings of others. In Season 2, Episode 14 of the comedy The Real O Neals, The Real Heartbreak, Kenny goes through his first breakup with boyfriend, Brett. Valentine s Day is coming soon and Kenny becomes over dramatic about spending the day alone so he reluctantly decides to join Jimmy and Pat, his brother and father, respectively, to a Lonely Hearts... Equivocal language requires using words that have broad meanings that can be interpreted a number of ways as well as help us out of an uncomfortable situation (O Hair, Wiemann, Mullin, Teven, 2015, p.74). Jimmy gives Kenny the reinforcemnt he needs to walk through the doors of the Lonely Hearts club and that everything will be okay. However, when he enters the room, the club is decorated with red balloons and hearts everywhere. Jimmy immediately tries to right the situation by saying, It s not a big deal, its just a bunch of balloons (Sudduth, 2017). • 9. A Brief Note On Pollution Across The World Pollution Across the World The Industrial Revolution was the spearhead for several generations of heavy pollution. The engines that are being used to make work easier emit large amounts of carbon dioxide (CO2). The Earth s atmosphere is designed to handle a fair amount of carbon dioxide, but in the past century people have produced much more than it can manage. Global warming has become a recurring topic in many news stories since the late 1990 s. With the spotlight on emission control vehicle manufacturers have started designing much more fuel efficient engines. Hybrid vehicles that use both an internal combustion engine and an electric power source have become highly popular amongst commuters. According to the Washington Post, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has required the U.S auto fleet to average 54.5 mpg by the year 2025 (Eilperrin). This will put a lot of pressure on engineers to make an engine that has a high output and is efficient. It is vital that something is done about the vast amount of pollution that is plaguing the world. If we continue destroying the environment at our current rate, there is only a number of decades left in our future. The United States is known for its lavish lifestyle. From a very young age most children enjoy things a lot of countries do not have. With this plush experience comes a hefty price. • 10. Love Sonnets In Shakespeare s Sonnet 130 By William... Sonnets written in Elizabethan England were usually after Petrarch s works. Petrarch was a man who was in love with a girl name Laura de Noves. He wrote 366 poems about his love for this woman from the year 1327 all the way until 1368. His works were very stereotypical love poems that included lines like, She ruled in beauty o er this heart of mine, / A noble lady in a humble home, / And now her time for heavenly bliss has come, / Tis I am mortal proved, and she divine. Petrarch wrote in such a way to charm a woman, as did many other writers of his time. However, there is one writer who took a different approach when writing about the woman he admired. This man considered on the greatest writers in the English language; William Shakespeare s Sonnet 130 is a reverse portrayal of Petrarch s ideas of a love sonnet and what it should be. Shakespeare s Sonnet 130 is often also referred to as My mistress eyes, which adds emphasis to the first line, My mistress eyes are nothing like the sun. As the opening line, this makes readers aware of what they are about to encounter throughout the sonnet. In this work Shakespeare is simply mocking the work of writers like Petrarch, and we as readers love it. Metaphors making comparisons to nature are often used to show the beauty of something when writing. William Shakespeare s Sonnet 130, makes the same comparisons, however he makes the metaphors in favor of the natural features rather than his mistress. Shakespeare isn t being rude to his mistress by doing so; he is taking things at face value and being blatantly honest. The sonnet has been included below for easier comparison. Notice that each negative metaphor in the first part of the sonnet takes up only one line, and does not rhyme. Later in the poem Shakespeare expands the comparisons to two lines. This has multiple effects on the poem such as allowing it to expand. By allowing expansion, the sonnet is prevented from being stagnant. Although Shakespeare was mocking other writer s forms of love poems, I feel that he had a much deeper and more meaningful purpose to his sardonic writing. Shakespeare wanted to show that women can be beautiful without having cheeks as red as rose, or eyes

Arrow Paradox Baby Bash Artist: Baby Bash Song: In Motion Lyric: I m in motion/Sippin love potion Topic: Arrow Paradox The concept of arrow paradox claims that when objects occupy an equal space at rest and locomotion is constant at the moment; then a flying arrow will be declared to be motionless. Zeno claims that at any instant an object is motionless because it cannot move to a place that it is not due to the fact that time has not elapsed. On the other hand, an object cannot move to where the object already is because that would create a paradox, seeing as the object is already there. It is impossible to observe any form of motion when the time is paused. Furthermore, if space is occupied by the objects then also the arrow should be dormant. Thus, the entire elaboration of this notion creates a fallacy. One can conclude form the arrow paradox that motion is impossible because everything is motionless at each instant, and time in essence is the sum of many instances. ... We are unique compared to other animals in our language, movements, and emotions. We have our own language which the majority of animals do not, we stand on two legs while the majority of the animals are on four legs, and we are much more sensitive to our emotional reactions, making us complex animals. Now, where does all these differences come from? As the title suggest, our human brains are incredible in the way they process information. This article aims to discuss the differences of human braincompared to other animal brains, and what makes us humans so unique in our responsive reactions in how we process information. More specifically, this paper will examine the influences the environment has on our human brains and how the changing environment influences our brain evolution in how we respond. Firstly, it is important to understand the evolution and development of human brain. An interesting idea is that our human brains are becoming smaller in size through evolution of time. It is commonly believed that more content requires bigger space. Let s take an example. A bowl that needs to fit ten identical objects needs to be bigger to a bowl that only needs to fit five identical objects. Likewise, our human brain has continued to develop through evolution and has much more complex capabilities as well as content to carry since the birth of our species in the Stone Age. Now

  • 17. The Pros And Cons Of Good And Evil Decisions Whenever choosing to do something, there are always factors which must be taken into consideration. The factors could range from effects that a certain action can have on the individual or to the greater effect that it could have on the public. Innately many individuals might believe that they know what is good and wrong, both for their own life and others. However, the real properties of good and evilor right and wrong, seem to vary between one person and another. To philosophers such as Ludwig Wittgenstein and William David Ross, the solutions to these differing views are simple. The good and evildecision as well as the motivation to act in whichever way were viewed by Wittgenstein as being relied upon by judgements of relative value while Ross saw it as being related to this prima facia duty. To Wittgenstein, there is an importance in the judgements of relative value as they are a representation of the facts. He illustrated the importance of the mere facts in his example of the big book which would contain the whole description of the world... it would contain all relative judgments of value and all true scientific propositions... and all true propositions that can be made (6). In other words, it would not contain any judgements and especially ethical judgements but rather only the facts which are a part of the situation or event. While at times conflict consumes our nation, tragedy occurs, and hardships arise we can rest assured that our elected officials and citizens are making intelligent decisions that uphold our values, rights, and liberty. These leaders have been elected to operate our democratic society which is propelled forward by education. Education serves as the single most important factor of our society s framework. How our Education System Developed and Why Thomas Jefferson referred to education as a diffusion of knowledge in the bill he proposed to the Virginia legislature in 1779 (Jefferson, 1779, p.20). He meant that by diffusing the knowledge amongst the people they will be able to protect the values, liberties, and rights that had been granted to them. (Cahn, Political Philosophy, 1 136) Justice is an order and duty of the parts of the soul; it is to the soul as medicine preserves the health of the body. In its current and cardinal definition is a just behavior or treatment; a concern for justice, peace, and genuine respect for people. However, justice is polymorphic; depending on eras and civilizations also differing in every culture. Although there some principles of justice that can be found to be almost universal. An early theory of justice was set out by the Ancient Greek philosopher Plato in his work The Republic. Plato was highly dissatisfied with the prevailing degenerating conditions in Athens. Louis XIV had extended France s power into Central Europe and North America. This power came about through wars which landed France with a self inflicted debt which would cripple its economy. When Louis XIV died in 1715 the state of the economy was dire and the subsequent fiscal decisions by Louis XV and Louis XVI aggravated the situation. France was in a constant state of war and debt and the immunity of taxes on the nobility and clergy deprived France of funds that it so desperately needed. France s status as superpower was at threat as Russia, Prussia and above all Great Britain where becoming increasingly powerful, Frances strong desire to retain this power explains the ill advised and catastrophic foreign policies it had adopted. God questions Cain on the death of Abel, and Cain lies and tells God that he did not murder his brother. Self Evaluation Motivates Performance Essay Self Evaluation Motivates Performance To demonstrate that the potential for self evaluation can motivate performance, the potential for evaluation by external sources must be eliminated. As Bandura (1986) writes, When environmental constraints are reduced, the influence of self evaluative motivators becomes most self evident (p. 479). Thus, to determine whether the self evaluative concerns suggested by social comparison theory motivate performance, one must ensure that people feel that they cannot be individually evaluated by an externalsource. Such control of external evaluation is made possible through the use of the social loafing paradigm (e.g., Latane, Williams, Harkins, 1979). Social loafing refers to the finding that ... Szy@ manski and Harkins (1987) did exactly this in an experiment in which they asked participants to generate as many uses as they could (i.e., do your best instructions) for a common object, regardless of the creativity of those uses. Pilot work with this task showed that participants felt that they knew how many uses they had generated (their output). Therefore, to manipulate the potential for self evaluation, Szymanski and Harkins either provided an evaluative criterion by telling participants that at the end of the session they would be told the average number of uses generated by participants in a previous version of the experiment, or Szymanksi and Harkins withheld the criterion by telling participants that to preserve confidentiality they would not be given this information. When the participants were provided with the evaluative criterion, they had an opportunity for selfevaluation by social comparison. This manipulation of the potential for self evaluation was crossed with a manipulation of the potential for experimenter evaluation. Half of the participants were told that at the end of the session, the experimenter would come in and count the number of uses that they had generated (experimenter evaluation), whereas the other half of the participants were told that the experimenter was interested in average performance so their individual outputs would be pooled with those of

The Tragedy Of Offensive Realism And The Rise Of China The tragedy of offensive realism: Classical realism and the rise of China Realism is one of the most dominant international relations theories in the academic world. But within Realism, Realists are split on a number of issues. A perfect example of which being the rise of China. Over the past 30 years China has increased not only in population and power, but has also achieved one of the strongest economies in the world. The rise of China is seen as problematic by many realists. Since the end of the Cold War and the fall of the Soviet Union, the US has enjoyed a position of hegemony in the unipolar power structure of the world. Many fear that the rise of China could upset the current balance of power. One such individual is a prominent realist scholar, John Mearsheimer. He believes that war with China is inevitable and calls for the US to do whatever it can to slow China s rise. Another political theorist Jonathan Kirshner wrote this paper to counter many of Mearsheimer s claims, stating that Mearsheimer s offensive realism is wrong, and dangerous . Kirshner suggests that instead of using offensive realism we should look instead to the theories roots in classical realism to analyse the rise of China. For realists the international system is anarchical, war is an ever present threat and the survival of a state is never guaranteed. This is why security is the main focus of most realists. States are forever seeking greater amounts of security, in a never ending search.

I played the game on my Xbox 360 console. To capture the experience of the Wild West, Rockstar consulted some historical experts in the field, along with channelling a lot of time and money into the graphics of the game. According to a New York Times online article, Rockstar spent between 80 100 million dollars on developing the game (Schiesel 2010). I mention this statistic because this comes to show the new era of devotion Rockstar brought to video game production. In any video game, soundtracks can be an incredible boost in its overall character. The soundtracks in Red Dead Redemption are authentic; it gives the game historical flavour. What I mean by this is you truly get a feeling of the Western experience. Rockstar brought on composers Woody Jackson and Bill Elm. In a behind the scenes video, the composers explain that it is essential for them to find a balance, paying homage to what was there but also trying to add our stamp to the music (GamerSpawn, 2010). Another interesting fact they mentioned was the ability for the game to launch certain lines of music to start based on your actions. For example, if you jump on a horse, a bass line rolls in. If the player is in a shootout, the music intensifies. The music helps reinforce the player s connection with the historic west by creating familiar sounds associated with the Western era. Before I mention the problem spaces of the game, I would like to continue back to explaining

That cocaine is the drug of the ruling class in America is undoubtedly more than a function of its high price in comparison to other drugs. After all, the effect of cocaine is much closer to the effects of the most popular of the legal drugs of choice: caffeine and nicotine. (Not surprisingly, caffeine and cocaine were once combined in Coca Cola.) Like these other speedy substances, cocaine heightens the senses and gives the user a great deal of energy. However, unlike other forms of speed, cocaine also gives its user the sensation of mastery and invulnerability. If there were any doubt about the relationship of cocaine to capitalism, the case is eloquently made by Tony Montana

According to nutrition writer Alex Lenhoff the average American eats fast food 159 times a year. That s [three] times a week (Lenhoff). Americans are consistently eating fast food, without realizing the effects it has on their bodies. Sure, a large order of fries may taste delicious while indulging them, but what about the delicious calories and fat that come along with it? The National Health Service has stated the average male adult needs approximately 2,500 calories [daily] (NHS). A normal fast food meal contains roughly fifteen hundred calories. That means in just one quick stop, they have consumed almost half of their limit for the entire day. Therefore, it is no shocker that one in three Americans in the United States are obese. Fast food has become a large contributor to obesity in America. The intake of its unhealthy effects must be lessened, resolved by simply making it more expensive. Americans will not choose to eat out as much, if it significantly burns a hole in their pocket. Placing a higher tax on fast food will not only resolve American obesity but will also put a stop to unhealthy lifestyles.
