Ida B Wells White Patriarchy
Race acted as the barrier of exclusion, that stopped people from becoming Americans. An American in
this era is defined as one who is a citizen, has the right to vote, and is not seen as commodity. The
definition of an American in the mid 19th century, was one who was not a slave, thus not a black
person. An American in the mid 19th century was defined as a white patriarchy, who owned slaves.
According to the Corner Stone Speech, the separation between an African American and an American
was that the negro is not equal to the white man thus inferring that white was a superior race and the
African American was an inferior race (Corner Stone Speech 4). The belief that black people were not
considered American was due to White ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Race not only acted as the marker of exclusion, but it also acted as a death sentence for many Black
people. For instance, Ida B. Wells pamphlet, The Red Record discusses the causes of lynching in the
United States of America. Majority of the cases Ida. B Wells states, the white man had no right to
scourge the emancipated Negro, still less has he a right to kill him (Wells 123/ 3). According to Ida B.
Wells, White Americans justified the killing of black people, and they go as follows, stop them from
taking part in riots, stop them from exercising their right to vote, and to protect their women (Wells
124 125). All three of these justifications are excuses that killed innocent lives. Black people did not
have the right to a trial the only race that was given that right were Whites. This is problematic, as
Black people could not testify or defend themselves, thus their result was an unjust death. Overall, the
race served not only as the border of exclusion as it stripped rights from people of color, but it was
also a death sentence. If an African American were to step out of line and defied white supremacy.
Overall, African American people did not have a fair trial as they were viewed as

Americans With Disabilities Act Summary
One such law is the federal law that was passed in 1990 is the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
The law ensures the right of individuals with disabilities to nondiscriminatory treatment in other
aspects of their lives (Hallahan, Kauffman, Pullen, 2015). Certain provisions were made within the
law for day care providers. The provisions are listed as: It is illegal to charge parents more for the care
of a disabled child, or to discriminate. ADA requires you to make reasonable modifications in policies.
Create practices and procedures within your child care program to accommodate individuals with
disabilities. Modification to your program is not required if it would fundamentally alter the goods or

Literary Analysis Of The Haunted Boy
Literary Analysis The Haunted Boy
The setting is used by the author in stories to display the mood of the scene. Specific details bring up
certain moods for the characters and the reader. For example, when talking about a warm, sunny day,
the reader can infer that the scene is going to be happy and there is going to be no misfortunate event
that happens. Carson Smith McCullers uses the setting in her short story The Haunted Boy to display
the different moods of the main character Hugh. The settings in the story help show how
uncomfortable Hugh is in the house after a past experience and shows how happy he is outside when
he remembers happy memories.
The beginning of the story starts out with one of few happy settings. The front yard was one of the
only places that brought happy feelings to the story. McCullers short story starts out by describing the
day having sunshine on a mid April afternoon and the front lawn being green (page 675). These
descriptions allow the reader to think warm and colorful thoughts. The story then goes to talk about
how the boys are running outside in the warm. Hugh race up the sidewalk, and John followed him.
They finished the front steps with two bounds, and the door slammed after them (page 675). This
shows how the boys are having fun and enjoying each others company. Finally, the front yard is the
place that Hugh remembers some of his fond memories of his mother. Sometimes she would be out
fooling with the border of spring flowers the candytuft, the sweet William, the lobelias (she had taught
him the names)... (page 675). From this explanation, the reader can relate to the character thinking
about different memories that they may have that bring happy thoughts to mind.
One of the only places in the house that brought a comfortable feeling to Hugh was the kitchen. The
kitchen is described as bright and clean and the best room in the house (page 676). In the kitchen,
there are fresh towels and clean dishes. This statement gives you the feeling that everything is going
well in the house and there is nothing wrong. The kitchen is also the only place in the house that made
Hugh feel comfortable and safe (Page 677), except on this particular day when there was no note from

How Did Berkeley And Hume Affect The Enlightenment
This week, I will be answering question number two (2) which asks about Berkeley and Hume. How
did these two philosophers effect the progress of the Enlightenment? Is one philosopher more
successful than the other? I will be focusing on Berkeley and Hume s impact on the work of
Enlightenment and Empiricist philosopher John Locke. Berkeley and Hume both had some differing
ideas when compared to those of some of the Enlightenment philosophers. For example, Berkeley
rejected the idea of Locke s distinction between primary and secondary qualities of perception.
According to Berkeley, all perception is secondary. Berkeley also argued that we cannot know
independently existing material objects. Objects or things are nothing more than the ideas we

In addition,, a modification to the preferred option that out performed those presented to the DTG was

Relationship Marketing Approaches in Services Marketing
| 2012 | | Relationship Marketing Approaches in Services Marketing |
| |
Over the last years the focus of marketing has changed from transactional to relationship marketing
because companies realized that is cheaper to keep old customers rather than attracting new ones. Also
this shift has occurred because of the intense rivalry that can be noticed in every industry. Besides its
main goal of retaining customers and encouraging repeats, relationship marketing also creates value
through relationships between buyers and sellers as well inside the organisation, or external with
competitors, suppliers and distributors. A develop definition of relationship marketing by Christian
Grönroos in 1989 would be: The purpose ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Improving customer satisfaction and longevity, providing a competitive edge and reducing marketing
expenses are just relationship marketing strategies that have a great impact on a company. By adopting
this marketing pattern, there are created benefits, not only for the service firm but also for its loyal
customers, such as lower marketing expenditures, stability, new barriers for new competitors and
reduced uncertainty. A big advantage for the relationship marketing approach is that it lowers the
operating costs. Having loyal customers means that the company gets to know its buyers more and
more with each transaction. Being based on a relationship approach, a company requires less
information about the customer because with each encounter with him, the firm adds new information
to the customer database. Strategically, a company based on the relationship marketing, has long term
customers increasing their profits. Having more advantages for the customers than a traditional
transactional marketing based company, a relationship marketing approach confers the company the
possibility of charging more for their services without affecting the number of customers. A good
example is the medical industry where a known individual might be willing to pay more for a doctor
they know rather than choosing a cheaper competitor. In the services market a company may even
charge more their premium customers for

On March 11, 1862, Lincoln made the decision to remove McClellan as General in Chief, demoting
him to command only the Army of the Potomac. Chief of Staff, Peyton March, sent a telegram to
McClellan in refence to his orders and instructed him to speak first to Governor Dennison. Suspicious
of this message McClellan refused the invitation to Washington or to speak to Dennison. Later, the
General wrote to his wife that the rascals of Washington were after him again and that if he could
come out of this, he would never get himself in this position again. Because of this refusal, he learned
of his demotion via the National Intelligencer, a Washington newspaper. Although many leaders in the

Abnormal Factors Of Foreign Relations
Abnormal Factors in Foreign Relations. Scholars usually mention about government or economics
insteads of gender and race in their studies about foreign relations. Gender and race are stated as
atypical factors in this field. Laura McEnaney and Michael Krenn seek the historical evidence to
prove their thesis that gender and race are vital in forming foreign relation in the United States.
Because gender, race and foreign relation seem not related to each other, choosing the example plays a
vital role in illustrating the thesis.
Laura McEnaney succeeds in sketching ideas about the gender analysis in foreign relations but fails to
persuade the readers that gender really mattered. The author starts from the initial impression of
gender analysis in diplomatic history and develops it as a vital element to inform policymakers
decisions. She claims gender merely adds to the historian s toolbox . McEnaney demonstrates gender
studies has involved into not only women and femininity but also men and masculinity. The author
states the first sign of the study about how gender affects diplomatic history in the Cold War. Nuclear
family and family values are mentioned as examples that scholars begin to explore gender foreign
policy connection. These examples play well in creating an initial concept about gender analysis.
McEnaney implies the struggle of the scholars in determining the chilly relations between the United
States and Soviet Union after World War II. She believes the

Sonnet 29
Sonnet 29 1. In the introductory clause of the sonnet, the speaker makes it clear that he envies those
with hope. By this, the speaker means that he resents those who have a clear, bright future ahead of
them, a future made possible by the qualities he goes on to describe. These qualities are friendships,
skill in art, and power (lines 6 7), and the speaker makes it clear that he envies these people by
explicitly stating that he desires what they have. 2. The turn of the sonnet occurs in line 9. The
argument that this line is where the turn occurs is supported by the content of the sonnet both before
and after the line. For example, the subject of lines 1 8 is how the speaker is feeling self pity and
jealousy towards those who have what he does not. After line 9, the subject of the sonnet shifts to how
the speaker finds the thought of his lover to be uplifting and how it makes him feel like he has
everything. This drastic shift in both tone and in subject indicate that line 9 is where the turn of the
sonnet occurs. 3. After the turn, the speaker s diction and imagery indicates that the speaker s tone
shifts to an uplifted and content one. This is evidenced by the image of birdsong rising from sullen
earth , which makes the rising nature of the speaker s tone clear. In addition, the usage of the word
arising also suggests that the speaker s tone is uplifted. Finally, when the speaker says that he would
scorn to change my state with kings , he

Armed with a militia of young Islamic zealots, a fully fledged intelligence service, and a government
that is complete with propaganda and taxation departments, the terrorist cell of Al Shabaab poses a
legitimate and durable threat to Somalia. With its sophisticated level of organization and management,
Al Shabaab has been able to absorb setbacks and still persist; they astutely navigated the Somalian
Civil War and emerged strong enough to capture vast swaths of territory. Consequently, even though
they have ceded some territory since then, Al Shabaab now enjoys a deeply entrenched position of

Defense Ministry with gunfire, and fired mortar rounds at the presidential palace. In addition to these
political targets, Al Shabaab also inflicts scores of civilian casualties in their attacks as well. In the
first week of July, a roadside bomb near Mogadishu exploded on a minibus, killing two persons and
injuring six others. The next day, a grenade was tossed into a crowd of men and women who were
cleaning a market in Mogadishu, killing two individuals. Although Al Shabaab did not immediately
claim responsibility, it is strongly believed that they perpetrated the attack in response to the
participation of women in this work force which opposes Al Shabaab s fundamentalist islamic views
on women being homemakers. Moreover, on Wednesday July 26th, six government soldiers were
killed. Also, on July 30th, Al Shabaab ambushed a convoy of African Union troops, killing between
eighteen and thirty nine soldiers. Then, on the same day, Al Shabaab detonated a massive car bomb

this proposal talks about creating a support system for the students at Camosun College. It is
economically friendly in the way that the re use, recycle method would be put into place at both
campuses. The proposal itself says that it will create financial support for students at both campuses,
but has very poor English and vocabulary, and the main point is not made clear. Of what I could
understand the individual who wrote this paper wants to set up a student funded flea market of sorts,
where students could buy tables from Costco that cost $20 and sell their textbooks, non perishable
food items, etc at reasonable prices to other students. I recommend for this proposal that whoever
wrote it, go back and go through spell check, as words like money were spelled incorrectly all the way
through, and that a lot of their vocabulary is very basic and hard to follow or understand. The Plan
section seems more like a budget than anything else, it doesn t tell you how the student society will be
brought into the mix as it mentioned in the Introduction, or how they will garner the attention of
students to volunteer and spend the $20.00 on the table, or how the 8 000.00 a year will be distributed
among everyone involved. I recommend that the writer re visit The Plan section and actually add in a

The Sarbanes Oxley Act Of 2002
On July 30, 2002, the Sarbanes Oxley Act of 2002 was signed into law by the acting President George
W. Bush. The overall purpose of the Act was to protect investors by improving the accuracy and
reliability of corporate disclosures made pursuant to the securities laws, and for other purposes. (SEC,
2013) This Act mandated multiple amendments to improve corporate responsibility, enhance financial
disclosures, and combat corporate and accounting fraudulent practices. One requirement of the Act
involves a management s report on internal controls over financial reporting to be included in the
annual financial reports of a company. On July 30, 2014, the Securities and Exchange Commission
(SEC) announced that CEO Marc Sherman and former CFO Edward L. Cummings of a computer
equipment company named QSGI, Inc. are being charged with misrepresenting the state of its internal
controls over financial reporting to external auditors and the investing public. Inadequate internal
control within the company can be extremely detrimental because investors and lenders rely heavily
on financial reports to make decisions. The incorrect records of QSGI enabled the company to
maximize loans from their top creditor. This report will show how QSGI s lack of internal controls
hindered their ability to generate revenue and maintain one of the company s operation centers. So
what are internal controls? And why are they so important? Internal controls describe the policies,

Increased through put: By increasing the number of processors, we expect to get more work done in
less time. The speed up ratio with N processors is not N, however; rather, it is less than N. When
multiple processors cooperate on a task, a certain amount of overhead is incurred in keeping all the
parts working correctly. This overhead, plus contention for shared resources, lowers the expected gain
from additional processors. Similarly, N programmers working closely together do not produce N
times the amount of work a single programmer would produce. 2. Economy of scale: Multiprocessor
systems can cost less than equivalent multiple single processor systems, because they can share
peripherals, mass storage, and power supplies. If several programs operate on the same set of data, it is
cheaper to store those data on one disk and to have all the processors share them than to have many
computers with local disks and many copies of the data. 3. Increased reliability. If functions can be
distributed properly among several processors, then the failure of one processor will not halt the
system, only slow it down. If we have ten processors and one fails, then each of the remaining nine
processors can pick up a share of the work of the failed processor. Thus, the entire system runs only 10
percent slower, rather than failing

Department of Marketing, Griffith University, Gold Coast, Australia
Abstract
Purpose The paper aims to highlight the importance of corporate rebranding in branding practice,
which is neglected in theoretical treatment, so an extended theory is to be developed.
Design/methodology/approach From the literature, the existing state of the theory of corporate
rebranding is articulated. That theory is extended by the development of six principles and by case
research. The principles are illustrated in the case of a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With corporate branding, organisational issues may well involve some changes, but the emphasis is on
getting all units to adhere consistently to policy and procedure specifications (such as common
letterheads or business cards, or the use of colours). However, with corporate rebranding, all units
need to be moved from one mindset/culture to another. Although there are some common issues, the
virtues of a corporate rebranding framework include: . explicit focus on how and to what extent the
corporate brand should be changed;
.
emphasis on justifying the brand revision both benefits and costs;
.
greater sensitivity to potential internal resistance to the brand change and thus a need for a well
structured change management program to get brand buy in; and
.
highlighting the need to alert all stakeholders to the new brand.
Shifting focus from corporate branding to corporate rebranding, we find less research or consensus.
An early academic paper on rebranding was Berry s (1988) summary of
Ogilvy and Mather s brand revitalisation program. A common trigger for revitalising brands is under
performance (Kapferer, 1997). Using renaming, a narrow approach to rebranding, both Muzellec et al.
(2003) and Muzellec and Lambkin (2006) found that structural factors such as mergers and
acquisitions were the main drivers of rebranding, with brand image improvement ranked lower. Before

The Biggest Part Of My Life Essay
The biggest part of my life, that changed me the most, is when I moved to Atlanta from Detroit. I was
in the midst of becoming a teenager, going through puberty, and entering high school. It was the
biggest decision I have ever made. However, it is not as bad as it sounds. Except for the fact that I had
to adjust to a new environment that was nothing like home, with people whom I never met before. It
was the end of my sixth grade year when my dad came to me and told me the most devastating news
of my life. He was going overseas! Not only was he going to be at least thirteen hours away, but half
way across the country in Dubai. Then it hit me...Where would I live? , Who would take care of me? ,
and why is he going all the way over there? Too many questions to process at one time. My dad who
meant the world to me was leaving me. He was a single parent and it was just me and him since I was
born. I was heartbroken. He asked me did I want to live with my mom or go to Dubai with him. At the
time I wanted a better relationship with my mom, and her missing my whole childhood impacted my
life more than I can ever imagine. So, of course I said yes. Moving to Atlanta could not be that bad. At
the end of our conversation he finally told me that he was going overseas for a better job as a military
contract worker. I knew that Detroit was going through hard times at the moment and that there weren

customers who had to deal with the delays on the initial happening will be provided an entire free

Skinner vs. Bandura
Behaviorism has been a major school of thought in psychology since 1913, when John B. Watson
published an influential article. Watson argued that psychology should abandon its earlier focus on
mind and mental processes and focus exclusively on overt behavior. He contended that psychology
could not study mental processes in a scientific manner because they are private and not accessible to
outside observation. In completely rejecting mental processes as a suitable subject for scientific study,
Watson took an extreme position that is no longer dominant among modern behaviorists. Thus, most
behaviorists view an individual s personality as a collection of response tendencies that are tied to
various stimulus situations. A specific situation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, I clowned around in class and gained appreciative comments and smiles from
schoolmates. This social approval reinforced my clowning around behavior. If such behavior would
have been reinforced with some regularity, it would have gradually become an integral element of my
personality. Similarly, whether or not I developed traits such as independence, assertiveness, or
selfishness depended on whether I got reinforced for such behavior by parents or by other influential
persons. Negative reinforcement occurs when a response is strengthened (increased in frequency)
because it is followed by the removal of a (presumably) unpleasant stimulus (Skinner, p.67). Do not
let the word negative here confuse you. Negative reinforcement is reinforcement. Like positive
reinforcement, it strengthens a response. However, this strengthening occurs because the response gets
rid of an aversive stimulus. Consider a few examples: I rush home in winter to get out of the cold. I
clean my house to get rid of a mess. Parents gave in to my begging to halt my whining. Negative
reinforcement plays a major role in the development of avoidance tendencies. As you have may
notices, many people tend to avoid facing up to awkward situations and sticky personal problems.
This personality trait typically develops because avoidance behavior gets rid of anxiety and is
therefore negatively

Allusions in Bartleby the Scrivener by Herman Melville Essay
In Bartleby, the Scrivener the author, Herman Melville, uses indirect references to hint to many
historical, literary, and biblical events. Bartleby, the Scrivener contains many allusions about
important events that help connect this fictional story to actual events in Melville s time period,
before, and beyond. Melville uses allusions frequently throughout Bartleby, the Scrivener to help build
connections with the real world and the fictitious world of this short story. One of the biggest allusions
in Bartleby, the Scrivener is the comparison of Bartleby to Jesus. In the story the narrator is confronted
by the new owner of the law offices. He asks the narrator if he knows who Bartleby is. The narrator
replies with I certainly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He rolled a big stone in front of the entrance to the tomb. Then he went away (NIV, Matthew 27:60).
Cicero, a very successful Roman politician, also plays a very significant role in the story of Bartleby,
the Scrivener . The narrator has a bust of Cicero in his office connecting the two cultures; the Western
and Eastern cultures however are strikingly different. At around 100 B.C. Cicero led the Roman
Empire in a very structured and civilized way. The Roman Empire s governmental structure is very
similar to the United Stated government because they both include three branches. The Judiciary, the
Executive, and the Legislative branches are included in both civilizations; however the Roman s
devised this system more than 2,000 years before the United States. They also both have elected
officials who are either elected or are appointed by the Consuls. The Roman Government was very
orderly and organized, the exact opposite of how it was in Bartleby s office. This small detail in the
story creates more contrast and helps us better understand the changes that can happen in such a short
amount of time. The law office was a very orderly place, it just takes one person to throw any well
oiled system off balance. The inclusions of these allusions are very subtle and are not always obvious,
however Melville took the time to add these into the story to further build connections with the story
world and the real world to make the story

Generic Strategy For Classifying A Text Document

Information pre preparing lessens the measure of the information content records essentially. It
includes exercises like sentence limit determination [2], characteristic dialect particular stop word

possible in the dialect of the content (for instance, „a‟, ‟the‟, ‟an‟, ‟of‟ and so forth in English
dialect), so they are not helpful for order. Stemming is the activity of decreasing words to their root or
base structure. For English dialect, the Porter‟s stemmer is a prominent calculation [4] [12], which is
an addition stripping arrangement of orderly strides for stemming an English word, decreasing the
vocabulary of the preparation content by around 33% of its unique size [4]. For instance, utilizing the

The title page looks sort of childlike instead of sophisticated like general novels. What is suggested by
the subtitle of the book: The Children s Crusade, a Duty Dance with Death? That the author may have
written it less gory so that children can read it. Chapter One From what point of view is Chapter One

authors point of view. It shows how much the author remembers from Dresden. In the first few pages

Privatization of Airports
PRIVATIZATION OF AIRPORTS
Conceptual Understanding of the term Privatization
Privatization is a generally a process through which the ownership and control of a government entity
is transferred to a private entity. The transfer can be either in whole or partial. Different connotations
of the term privatization as enumerated in various articles and journals are as follows :
1. Movement of an entity from the federal government to a local or quasi governmental agency where
a private sector mode would be used.
2. Political policy of the national government.
3. Government entity which is partially owned by private sector.
4. Transfer of state owned enterprises to private economic agents in order to gain the benefits
occurring under private ownership.
5. Contracting out of service delivery to private organisation.
6. Policy of structural change that might cause state owned enterprises to behave like private firms.
7. Expansion of Private sector participation without ownership.
8. Private Sector Financing.

Commercialisation and Airport Privatization as follows: Airport commercialization: The
transformation of an airport from a public utility to a commercial enterprise and the adoption of a
more businesslike management philosophy. Airport privatization: The transfer of the management of
an airport, and in many cases the ownership as well, to the private sector by a variety

Mount Vesuvius Essay
E ver since the ancient Greeks settled in the area in the 8th century B.C., the region around mount
Vesuvius and the Bay of Naples attracted wealthy vacationers who wanted to soak up the sun and
beautiful scenery. By the time of the first century A.D., the town of Pompeii, located about five miles
from the mountain, was a flourishing resort for Rome s most distinguished citizens. Elegant houses
and elaborate villas lined the paved the many streets. The biggest and most well known eruption of the
volcano known as Mt. Vesuvius happened 1,937 years ago. Mount Vesuvius laid waste to the city of

Misrepresentation In Popular Culture
The exclusion, or rather misrepresentation of people of color in popular culture has become a
cataclysm in our society. Regrettably, the exclusion, or blatant misrepresentation hadn t received as
much deserving cognizance until recent controversies surrounding the 2016 Oscars. Seemingly, the
visual of a uniformed undiversified audience served as a catalyst for awareness; the tension from the
issue unveiled how there was still an undercurrent racism present in the system, and that in turn
exposed how stagnant our society has been on the issues of institutionalized racism. Notwithstanding
the active minds of bell hooks and Melissa Harris Perry confronting the issue of inaccurate
misrepresentation of POC, the award show revealed much of the unperceived ... Show more content

When the misrepresentation of POC in films becomes an indicator that we are not boldly confronting
the issues needed to be confronted, a change must occur. As bell hooks and many other active
progressive thinkers, emboldened by the current racial inequalities of our society, have asserted, pop
culture has a significant impact on our perception of matter. In knowing the impact, it is imperative
that in the concurring systematic oppressions we do not remain stagnant. Through a close examination
of films: Pan, Braveheart, and Ghost in the Shell, we can vividly see how the overrepresentation of
white expose the underlying oppression within our society. According to the statistics conducted by
USC, there is an evident disproportion of minorities in both film and media. Yet, this disproportion is
rarely challenged. The Oscars of 2016 became a visual catalyst in the need for proper representation.
The prevalence of institutionalized racism in our current society can never truly be effaced if we fail to
grasp its strong presence in popular culture. The existing racism in Hollywood explicitly displays a
regression in racial equality in society. Hollywood is more than sorority racist; it is plagued by
something far worse: It is plagued by institutionalized racism. The three movies and their
whitewashed cast explore the racism within the system. In acknowledging the flaws, an effort should

Miss Brill Illusion Vs Reality
The mind creates a world of illusion, by changing our thoughts; we change the illusion, and
experience a different reality. If we say that a real thing is something that always exists, with no gaps,
then the outside world is not real. Katherine Mansfield captures the theme of illusion vs. reality in her
short story Miss Brill the main character Miss Brill is fascinated with the surprise of having an almond
in her honey cake. The almond symbolizes how Miss Brill sees herself in society as the honey cake
represents the people. The way Miss Brill tries to fit in, the loneliness she endures and analyzing the
ending of the story shows how her imagination has taken the best of her.

In her fantasy world Miss Brill enjoys a feeling of superiority (Parquette, 1952) as her illusions takes
the best of her as she believes she is a actress and that everyone around her is in this play. These flat
statements leave little doubt that for the spinster the drama of the park is a fact. She feels that all the
strangers, herself included, will sing harmoniously, and that through...from reality (Thorpe, 1962).
With herself being the almond and those around her being the honey cake, the emotion she feels when
going to the bakery and noticing an almond in her honey cake means that she believes she is suited for
the role of those at the park. Although in reality she is a lonely English teacher, she puts her profession
and her emotions aside to live up to the lavish upscale life of those surrounding her.
Miss Brill doesn t see herself as being lonely; she merely just wants to be apart of something that can
bring an adventure. The illusions she makes are caused by feeling alienated to the world, throughout
the story she is mostly just watching people instead of interacting with them. This can be her way of
probably feeling sad when she doesn t see an almond in her honey cake, as she is disconnected to the
people around her. Her weekly routine is to shadow her true feelings within

Analysis Of The Movie The Shell
Andrew Burgos
Japanese anime has been a focal point of artistic expression in eastern culture since the 1950s. By
utilizing a combination of action sequences, vivid imagery, and compelling narratives these forms of
art reveal the artists cultural influences as well as serving as a medium for the artist to convey his
social and political beliefs. Mamoru Oshii s Ghost in the Shell, is no exception. Ghost in the Shell is a
cyberpunk version of a near future Earth where society is completely reliant on technology and
cybernetic humans depend heavily on the software used to create them. Within this narrative we see a
cybernetic female that exists as two cohesive entities, a cybernetic shell in which she was created into,
and a ghost, a concept that serves the purpose of acting as a human conscience. Using this
technological dependent reality, Oshii creates a visual masterpiece that acts as a battleground for
conflicting representations of power within the concept of gender as well as representing a desire to
liberate ourselves from the self imposed gender constructs that we adhere to. Many forms of anime
exist within society, ranging from stories of adventures to the exploits of high school students. Ghost
in the Shell falls under the category of a mecha anime, a sub genre that ...are primarily science fiction
narratives, often taking place in dystopian futuristic city scape where advanced technology figures
prominently (Schaub 86). Mecha anime utilizes a combination of

Sherman Alexie s Flight Patterns tries to tackle a challenging subject. It probes the underbelly of
modern life, sifting through the cloudy American mind that s full of seemingly useless information, in
search of what s truly important in life. This happens through the stories two main scenes. The first
depicts William s relationship with his daughter and wife, and conflicts in life. The second engages
William in a taxi cab conversation that shuffles his priorities and forces him to confront his problem.
This pushes him to his tipping point, and when the ride is over, he becomes uneasy and cares only to

Alexie s trying to show us that hiding your problems isn t the correct way to deal with them, and in
William s case, his family needs him more than William needs his job. What exactly is his job? He
works at a think tank selling theoretical ideas to companies. This job plagues William with
ambivalence. Though he s able to think creatively and enjoy certain freedoms that other jobs don t
offer, it restricts the time he has with his family by requires him to fly all over the country. And as he
notes that his wife s always waiting for William to call while on the road, his taxi arrives and William
embarks on the second part of the story. The way I read the taxi cab portion made me think of it as a

Community Colleges were developed with the purpose of providing an affordable and accessible
education. By providing students with both academic and learning skills, community colleges
continue to remain an essential part of today s society. Throughout the years, community colleges
have continued to develop and transform to provide resources to meet the needs of their students. As
new community colleges began to develop, it is critical that they are aware of the political issues that
community colleges face. For this assignment, I will discuss the University of District of Columbia
Community College and its governance. In addition, I will provide information on federal and local
government involvement, leadership structure, political culture, student demographics, and

Go Set A Watchman By Harper Lee
Synopsis Harper Lee s novel, Go Set a Watchman, tells the story of the 26 year old Jean Louise as she
gains awareness of her father s flaws and becomes a more independent and flexible person. During the
novel s exposition, Jean Louise is on a train returning to her hometown, Maycomb, to visit her aging
father, Atticus. Upon returning home, Jean Louise quickly gets into an argument with her aunt,
Alexandra, over trivial matters. The two continue to bicker at each other until Atticus intervenes.
While Jean Louise finds it extremely frustrating that her aunt is never able to understand her point of
view, she finds comfort believing that Maycomb has remained the same since she last left. The
narrative hook occurs when Jean Louise is informed of the changes that have taken place in
Maycomb. A notable example is when Henry Clinton, Jean s old friend, informs her that her family
sold Finch s Landing to a club. Jean is surprised at this and expresses her displeasure at her world
changing by stating; I just don t like my world disturbed without some warning... (Lee 75). Many of
the changes don t hinder Jean, but she is still bothered by the fact that her world is changing without
her knowledge. During the rising action, Jean Louise discovers a racist pamphlet owned by her father.
She confronts Alexandra about it, and her aunt informs her that Atticus had brought it home from the

Citizen Security Policy
The police plays a key role in any political regime. Whether liberal democracy or an authoritarian
regime, the police is responsible for internal security, law enforcement and channeling the claims of
justice. The actions of the police are linked to the performance of the regime, given that they are the
center of how the states responds to everyday problems. The police, not the members or mayors, are
usually the first public officials to whom people look to when security problems occur. The
perceptions of citizens on police work are therefore an important component in the legitimacy of the
system than confidence in other policies, such as congress, the political parties or the executive

  • 2. Ida B Wells White Patriarchy Race acted as the barrier of exclusion, that stopped people from becoming Americans. An American in this era is defined as one who is a citizen, has the right to vote, and is not seen as commodity. The definition of an American in the mid 19th century, was one who was not a slave, thus not a black person. An American in the mid 19th century was defined as a white patriarchy, who owned slaves. According to the Corner Stone Speech, the separation between an African American and an American was that the negro is not equal to the white man thus inferring that white was a superior race and the African American was an inferior race (Corner Stone Speech 4). The belief that black people were not considered American was due to White ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Race not only acted as the marker of exclusion, but it also acted as a death sentence for many Black people. For instance, Ida B. Wells pamphlet, The Red Record discusses the causes of lynching in the United States of America. Majority of the cases Ida. B Wells states, the white man had no right to scourge the emancipated Negro, still less has he a right to kill him (Wells 123/ 3). According to Ida B. Wells, White Americans justified the killing of black people, and they go as follows, stop them from taking part in riots, stop them from exercising their right to vote, and to protect their women (Wells 124 125). All three of these justifications are excuses that killed innocent lives. Black people did not have the right to a trial the only race that was given that right were Whites. This is problematic, as Black people could not testify or defend themselves, thus their result was an unjust death. • 4. Literary Analysis Of The Haunted Boy Literary Analysis The Haunted Boy The setting is used by the author in stories to display the mood of the scene. Specific details bring up certain moods for the characters and the reader. For example, when talking about a warm, sunny day, the reader can infer that the scene is going to be happy and there is going to be no misfortunate event that happens. Carson Smith McCullers uses the setting in her short story The Haunted Boy to display the different moods of the main character Hugh. The settings in the story help show how uncomfortable Hugh is in the house after a past experience and shows how happy he is outside when he remembers happy memories. The beginning of the story starts out with one of few happy settings. The front yard was one of the only places that brought happy feelings to the story. McCullers short story starts out by describing the day having sunshine on a mid April afternoon and the front lawn being green (page 675). These descriptions allow the reader to think warm and colorful thoughts. The story then goes to talk about how the boys are running outside in the warm. Hugh race up the sidewalk, and John followed him. They finished the front steps with two bounds, and the door slammed after them (page 675). This shows how the boys are having fun and enjoying each others company. Finally, the front yard is the place that Hugh remembers some of his fond memories of his mother. Sometimes she would be out fooling with the border of spring flowers the candytuft, the sweet William, the lobelias (she had taught him the names)... (page 675). From this explanation, the reader can relate to the character thinking about different memories that they may have that bring happy thoughts to mind. One of the only places in the house that brought a comfortable feeling to Hugh was the kitchen. The kitchen is described as bright and clean and the best room in the house (page 676). In the kitchen, there are fresh towels and clean dishes. This statement gives you the feeling that everything is going well in the house and there is nothing wrong. The kitchen is also the only place in the house that made Hugh feel comfortable and safe (Page 677), except on this particular day when there was no note from his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

How did these two philosophers effect the progress of the Enlightenment? Is one philosopher more successful than the other? I will be focusing on Berkeley and Hume s impact on the work of Enlightenment and Empiricist philosopher John Locke. Berkeley and Hume both had some differing ideas when compared to those of some of the Enlightenment philosophers. For example, Berkeley rejected the idea of Locke s distinction between primary and secondary qualities of perception. According to Berkeley, all perception is secondary. Berkeley also argued that we cannot know independently existing material objects. Objects or things are nothing more than the ideas we ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Relationship Marketing Approaches in Services Marketing | 2012 | | Relationship Marketing Approaches in Services Marketing | | | Over the last years the focus of marketing has changed from transactional to relationship marketing because companies realized that is cheaper to keep old customers rather than attracting new ones. Also this shift has occurred because of the intense rivalry that can be noticed in every industry. Improving customer satisfaction and longevity, providing a competitive edge and reducing marketing expenses are just relationship marketing strategies that have a great impact on a company. By adopting this marketing pattern, there are created benefits, not only for the service firm but also for its loyal customers, such as lower marketing expenditures, stability, new barriers for new competitors and reduced uncertainty. A big advantage for the relationship marketing approach is that it lowers the operating costs. Having loyal customers means that the company gets to know its buyers more and more with each transaction. Being based on a relationship approach, a company requires less information about the customer because with each encounter with him, the firm adds new information to the customer database. Strategically, a company based on the relationship marketing, has long term customers increasing their profits. Having more advantages for the customers than a traditional transactional marketing based company, a relationship marketing approach confers the company the possibility of charging more for their services without affecting the number of customers. Laura McEnaney and Michael Krenn seek the historical evidence to prove their thesis that gender and race are vital in forming foreign relation in the United States. Because gender, race and foreign relation seem not related to each other, choosing the example plays a vital role in illustrating the thesis. Laura McEnaney succeeds in sketching ideas about the gender analysis in foreign relations but fails to persuade the readers that gender really mattered. • 11. Sonnet 29 Sonnet 29 1. In the introductory clause of the sonnet, the speaker makes it clear that he envies those with hope. By this, the speaker means that he resents those who have a clear, bright future ahead of them, a future made possible by the qualities he goes on to describe. These qualities are friendships, skill in art, and power (lines 6 7), and the speaker makes it clear that he envies these people by explicitly stating that he desires what they have. 2. The turn of the sonnet occurs in line 9. The argument that this line is where the turn occurs is supported by the content of the sonnet both before and after the line. For example, the subject of lines 1 8 is how the speaker is feeling self pity and jealousy towards those who have what he does not. After line 9, the subject of the sonnet shifts to how the speaker finds the thought of his lover to be uplifting and how it makes him feel like he has everything. This drastic shift in both tone and in subject indicate that line 9 is where the turn of the sonnet occurs. 3. After the turn, the speaker s diction and imagery indicates that the speaker s tone shifts to an uplifted and content one. This is evidenced by the image of birdsong rising from sullen earth , which makes the rising nature of the speaker s tone clear. In addition, the usage of the word arising also suggests that the speaker s tone is uplifted. Finally, when the speaker says that he would scorn to change my state with kings , he ... (SEC, 2013) This Act mandated multiple amendments to improve corporate responsibility, enhance financial disclosures, and combat corporate and accounting fraudulent practices. One requirement of the Act involves a management s report on internal controls over financial reporting to be included in the annual financial reports of a company. On July 30, 2014, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) announced that CEO Marc Sherman and former CFO Edward L. Inadequate internal control within the company can be extremely detrimental because investors and lenders rely heavily on financial reports to make decisions. The speed up ratio with N processors is not N, however; rather, it is less than N. When multiple processors cooperate on a task, a certain amount of overhead is incurred in keeping all the parts working correctly. This overhead, plus contention for shared resources, lowers the expected gain from additional processors. Similarly, N programmers working closely together do not produce N times the amount of work a single programmer would produce. 2. Economy of scale: Multiprocessor systems can cost less than equivalent multiple single processor systems, because they can share peripherals, mass storage, and power supplies. If several programs operate on the same set of data, it is cheaper to store those data on one disk and to have all the processors share them than to have many computers with local disks and many copies of the data. 3. Increased reliability. If functions can be distributed properly among several processors, then the failure of one processor will not halt the system, only slow it down. With corporate branding, organisational issues may well involve some changes, but the emphasis is on getting all units to adhere consistently to policy and procedure specifications (such as common letterheads or business cards, or the use of colours). However, with corporate rebranding, all units need to be moved from one mindset/culture to another. Although there are some common issues, the virtues of a corporate rebranding framework include: . explicit focus on how and to what extent the corporate brand should be changed; . emphasis on justifying the brand revision both benefits and costs; . greater sensitivity to potential internal resistance to the brand change and thus a need for a well structured change management program to get brand buy in; and . highlighting the need to alert all stakeholders to the new brand. Shifting focus from corporate branding to corporate rebranding, we find less research or consensus. An early academic paper on rebranding was Berry s (1988) summary of Ogilvy and Mather s brand revitalisation program. A common trigger for revitalising brands is under performance (Kapferer, 1997). Using renaming, a narrow approach to rebranding, both Muzellec et al. Watson argued that psychology should abandon its earlier focus on mind and mental processes and focus exclusively on overt behavior. He contended that psychology could not study mental processes in a scientific manner because they are private and not accessible to outside observation. In completely rejecting mental processes as a suitable subject for scientific study, Watson took an extreme position that is no longer dominant among modern behaviorists. Similarly, whether or not I developed traits such as independence, assertiveness, or selfishness depended on whether I got reinforced for such behavior by parents or by other influential persons. Negative reinforcement occurs when a response is strengthened (increased in frequency) because it is followed by the removal of a (presumably) unpleasant stimulus (Skinner, p.67). Do not let the word negative here confuse you. Negative reinforcement is reinforcement. Like positive reinforcement, it strengthens a response. However, this strengthening occurs because the response gets rid of an aversive stimulus. Consider a few examples: I rush home in winter to get out of the cold. I clean my house to get rid of a mess. They also both have elected officials who are either elected or are appointed by the Consuls. The Roman Government was very orderly and organized, the exact opposite of how it was in Bartleby s office. This small detail in the story creates more contrast and helps us better understand the changes that can happen in such a short amount of time. The law office was a very orderly place, it just takes one person to throw any well oiled system off balance. The inclusions of these allusions are very subtle and are not always obvious, however Melville took the time to add these into the story to further build connections with the story world and the real world to make the story ... In knowing the impact, it is imperative that in the concurring systematic oppressions we do not remain stagnant.
