Compare And Contrast Heydrich And Ernest Shackleton
(STATE THESIS) When it comes to the leading their respective teams, Ernest Shackleton and
Reinhard Heydrich s approaches to leadership could not be more contradictory. This is not to say
that their differences make either of them a good or misleader. Each individual demonstrated
qualities that would classify him in either category. However, it is ultimately the intentions of the
leader and the presence of or complete disregard for humanity that categorizes each man where he
falls.
Holistically, in order to determine what makes an individual an effective leader or a misleader, one
must first understand the aspects of leadership. While it is impossible to condense what makes a
leader into a short list of qualities and ideas, for the intent of this paper, the comparative aspects of
leadership will be limited to: character, skills/talent, and results.
To begin, character can be understood as the mental and moral qualities distinctive to an individual.
Warren Buffet was quoted saying, there are three main qualities involved in leadership: integrity,
intelligence, and energy; without the first, the other two will kill you, (Warren Buffet). In reference
to Ernest Shackleton, the mariner was known by his crew to be optimistic, generous, and fair. At
the beginning of their expedition, however, these qualities were subdued by Shackleton s hubris. It
should be noted that, no mariner distinguished themselves on a smooth sea, (The Endurance
Movie). With that in mind, it was not

The Country Music Culture
There are thousands of musical cultures that are found and known in this world. Every continent
around the globe has its own musical cultures dated as early as 500 AD and since then, have
developed and being spread across the globe throughout the centuries. This development comes with
different histories, background, stories and its effect in the aspect of cultural development or
cultural identity. My writing however, will not talk about all of these musical cultures and how
they have develop since then, but I would like to study and write about one specific musical
cultures, originated from the United States of America, merely the southern states of the country,
known as the country music.
Country music is one of the musical

Should English be the Official Language of the United States The debate on whether the United
States should make English the official language has been raging within the borders of the country
for decades. Several bills have been presented to Congress over the years, but have stagnated due to
the opposition on either side. Though there would certainly be drawbacks to introducing English as
the official language of the United States, there would also be immeasurable benefit. Not only would
an official language streamline government processes and reduce government spending, it would
also aid the United States by unifying its people. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
English, 1995). The federal government also spends millions of dollars funding the Immigration
and Naturalization Services which is currently required to translate the citizenship test into multiple
languages. In all, U.S. taxpayers shell out $13 billion a year funding a multi lingual government
(U.S. English, 1995).
The laws currently in the books are even being used to squeeze more money out of the
government and businesses. Executive Order 13166, which was signed by President Clinton and
later enforced by President Bush, requires all federal agencies and recipients of federal funds to
provide translation services for non English speakers. This requirement is at the American tax payer
s expense. An Iranian immigrant in Oklahoma recently used the Executive Order as grounds for
complaint asking the U.S. Department of Transportation to investigate the state because it failed to
give the driver s license exam in Farsi (McAlpin, 2008). The U.S. Supreme Court rejected the
argument citing an individual may not sue for foreign language services by charging discrimination
under the nation origin category of the Civil Rights Act.
Even the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and Health and Human Services

Language is our main means of communication and learning, without it we would not understand
each other efficiently enough to communicate our needs and thoughts. It is a very complicated
feature of human cognition. Yet children acquire language very naturally and quickly without any
formal instruction. Many language experts such as Chomsky (1965) and Pinker (2000) believe this
suggests that there is some innate predisposal to acquire language, by this it is meant a genetic
mechanism that holds what he calls the universal grammar common to all languages. Noam
Chomskycall s language the human essence (1972). He is a discontinuity theorist, this means he

Humans who began to learn language would find it easier to survive and then pass on their
language to their children and so on. Therefore Darwin s theory does not support Chomsky s claim
of humans having an innate predisposal to acquire languages as he believed it was something that
has evolved and then been developed over time, not something that has always been present in our
genetics.
Most animals communicate with one another non verbally, for example some bee species have
very specific and evolved ways of communicating with each other about the location and quality of
food (Winston, 1987, p. 25) or the emperor penguin which uses an intricate set of calls that are very
vital for individual recognition between parents, offspring, and mates, demonstrating a very wide
range of individual calls from all the penguins (Williams 1995, p. 68). As all these forms of
communication appear to be very natural to the species they are relevant to, it suggests they are
easily developed and learnt through the social context the being is in. Perhaps this means that these
forms of communication are innately predisposed to the specific species, which would surely mean
language to be innately governed within humans as it s our way of communication. However one
cannot really compare the communications of animals to humans as the humans have a much
greater mental capacity than that of any other species. Although other species can communicate, the

Persuasive Essay On Drinking Soda
In a recent General Conference address remembered by youth and adults alike, President Dieter F.
Uchtdorf explained the challenge of learning how to use a computer when he first became an
apostle in 1994. He jokingly describes how it took a lot of time, patience, reassurance, and many
liters of a diet soda that shall remain nameless , to which the congregation let out a hearty laugh.
President Uchtdorf s statement about drinking soda became a justification and repeatedly quotable
moment for Latter day Saints who frequently drink caffeinated sodas, despite its similar chemical
effects to coffeeand tea, drinks that are well known as against church standards. On September 21,
2017, Brigham Young Universitymade a change to their distributable goods by starting to sell
caffeinated soda drinks on campus, something Food Services had previously made the decision
not to do since the mid 1950s. This decision not only lead to cheering students who no longer felt
the need to smuggle their drinks from off campus sources, but made international news, inspiring
stories from NPR, The Washington Post, The New York Times, and BBC. However, this
decision lead to some disagreement among a few who believe caffeinated beverages are not in
line with the standards of the gospel. The newly offered caffeinated drinks on BYU campus
should not be sold because of the drinks health concerns, addictive properties, and violation of
Word of Wisdom principles. Soda and caffeinehave been proven to cause

Men Who Were Sent to Alcatraz Essay
Alcatraz began in 1850 as a military prison. Later it became a federal prison. Then on the verge of
30 years it was closed. Then for a while Indians used the island. Alcatraz was used to house the
criminals who provoked problems at other jails. The island was located off the coast of California.
The island has had many uses over a span of 122 years. Alcatraz was first used as a Military prison.
They used it as a Military prison from 1850 to 1934. In 1934 it was changed to a federal prison. The
Military cons were the first inmates of the prison. Then after roughly 30 years of federal prison use,
Alcatraz was shut down due to deterioration and cost.

Eugenia Skeeter Phelan and her relationship with to African American maids in the 1960 s during

Stone have certain way of showing a leadership role a multiple of films that she starred in. Viola
Davis and Octavia Spencer did a magnificent job playing as the role off the two maids. Both of
these women have probably experienced some sorts of racism in the lives, and can relate well to
the movie. Stone, Davis, Spencer have read The Help before, so playing the role of Skeeter and

Hamlet and a Midsummer Night s Dream
In one of AMND s most enduring passages, Lysander states (Act one scene one, line 134) The
course of true love never did run smooth. The conflict that is inevitably born out of love is a
central theme at the heart of Midsummer s Night s Dream and Hamlet, but is extended by
Shakespeare not only to romantic relationships, but to familial bonds as well. The conflict is
ultimately resolved in diametrically opposing ways in each play, according to the conventions of
their respective genres. Hamlet is a tragedy, and therefore can result only in death, but AMND, as a
comedy, uses the traditional method of marriage to resolve its conflict. Shakespeare opens AMND
with the relationship between Athenian Duke Theseus and Amazonian warrior... Show more content

When Polonius finds out that Ophelia has been conducting a romance with Hamlet, he insists that
she no longer have contact with the prince: I will teach you. Think yourself a baby. (1.3.105)
Polonius convinces Ophelia that she has been naГЇve and stupid to believe Hamlet s professions of
love: Affection? Pooh! You speak like a green girl. (1.3. 101) In Polonius s dialogue,
Shakespeare repeatedly employs images of Ophelia as a child to portray how her father
psychologically controls her, by making her dependent on his commands, as a young child
would: I shall obey, my lord. (1.3.136) In AMND Shakespeare constructs a similar conflict
around a father daughter relationship, as Egeus wants his daughter Hermia, to marry Demetrius
and not her lover, Lysander. Shakespeare draws upon ancient Greek mythology to portray his
characters and their respective philosophies. Egeus displays Apollonian attributes as he
paternalistically favours a strict adherence to the law above all else, even to the point of death:
As she is mine, I may dispose of her...or to her death according to our law. (1.1.43) Egeus
commoditises his relationship with his daughter, as he considers her a possession to be controlled
and exploited. Like Polonius who commands Ophelia to set your entreatments at a higher rate
(1.3.122), Egeus s diction is replete with the language of commerce as he tries to trade his
daughter: and she is

Status Of Women In Victorian England Essay
We certainly can t pick our families, though I am sure many of us have had thoughts of what life
would be like if we were born into a different lifestyle. While your ascribed status is the status you
were born into, your achieved status is what you achieve during your life. Oftentimes people will
let their circumstances dictate what they become, but those striving to attain a higher status will
usually find a way to change their circumstances if possible. One great example would be of
women in Victorian England. Women during this era were given no legal status whatsoever.
Typically women born within a higher class would have a better chance of marriageand lifestyle.
They would still have no rights, but may live in comfort. Women born

The Health Of American Politics Essay
The Health of American Politics/Democracy In this paper, I am going to write about two topics
which they are the American politics and the American democracy. I am going to discuss one
issue regarding each topic. In the topic of American politics, I will describe the negative impact of
the Israeli lobby on the American Politic. After that, I will describe the negative impact of the
electoral college system on the American democracy. The Israeli lobby and the electoral college
system are affecting the health of American politics and democracy negatively. In the past few
decades till now, the United Statesforeign policies were an important factor to deal with many issues
around the globe. Starting from the Security Council ending with the country policy, the United
States has made many decisions that took negative effect on the country s security and its relations
with other countries. The reason behind these negative effect is the United States foreign policies
especially toward the Middle East. These policies are greatly affected by the Israeli lobby in the
United States. As John J. Mearsheimer, a professor of Political Science and the co director of the
Program on International Security Policy at the University of Chicago and Stephen Walt, a
professor of international affairs at Harvard University s John F. Kennedy School of Government,
mentioned in a documentary published by London Review of Books under the name of The Israeli

Rise Of Buddhism Research Paper
The fifth and fourth centuries B.C. were times of a worldwide intellectual renaissance. It was an
age of great thinkers, thinkers like Socrates and Plato, Confucius and Lao Tzu. In India, it was the
age of the Buddha Shakyamuni, or simply the Buddha, after whose death a religion emerged that
eventually spread far beyond the reaches of its homeland. In order to understand Buddhismand its
art we must first know who the Buddha was.
Siddhartha Gautama, who later became known as the Buddha, was born as a prince to the royal
family of Kapilavastu, whose kingdom was located in the Himalayan foothills. At the time of his
birth, sages predicted that he would become a universal conqueror, a conqueror of either the
physical world or of men s minds. It was the latter conquest that came to pass. Giving up the
pleasures of the palace Siddhartha went on to seek the true purpose of life, Siddhartha first
attempted the path of severe asceticism, only to abandon his efforts after six years, as it was a futile
exercise. He then sat down in yogic meditation beneath a banyan tree until he achieved
enlightenment. He was known henceforth as the Buddha, or Enlightened One.
Upon his death the Buddha requested that he be cremated and a memorial be built at a place where
people can gather. These memorials, which are known as Stupas, are the first example of Buddhist
art. At first these stupas were simple structures shaped like rounded mounds meant to represent the
curving form of the universe.

Growth Hormone Research Paper
Hormones have been with you since birth. They helped you grow when you were a child. They
transitioned you from childhood to adulthood when you hit puberty. They help you regulate your
body temperature and blood sugar levels. The fact is that you would not be alive without them.
As your body begins to age, the levels of certain key hormones begin to decline also. With the
decline of these hormones, the body begins to show signs of aging. Declining muscle mass and a
lack of sex drive are just two signs that hormone levels are decreasing. The good news is that
selective hormone therapy can help reverse the signs of aging and begin to restore your youthful
vigor.

As this hormone declines, it can cause sleeping problems, mood swings, and clouded thinking. It
also leads to higher levels of cortisol and lower levels of sex hormones. Therapy helps to reverse
these problems.
Growth hormone, also known as HGH, is necessary for the development and maintenance of
various organs and tissues. It helps increase muscle mass and strengthens bone structure. This
hormone is often used with children who have growth issues or anyone who has hormone
deficiencies.
Testosterone serves functions in men. A man s body uses testosterone to stimulate the growth of
facial hair, increase sex drive, and produce sperm. Testosterone therapy helps men get more energy,
improved memory, better moods, improved muscle mass, and increase sexual stamina.
Testosterone is also critical for women. As testosterone levels decline as a woman ages, body mass
begins to decline, making it harder to keep a healthy weight. It also plays a role in sex drive and
mood.
Estrogen levels are critical for women as they age. This hormone helps regulate bone growth,
cholesterol levels, and sex drive. Estrogen therapy can help women, especially during

Prostate cancer is one of the major health concerns of the public. Worldwide prostate cancer has

Prostate cancer refers to the malignant growth of glandular cells located in the prostate. Under
normal circumstances these cells sit in the glands which are responsible for the production of
fluids that make up most of the semen in males [2]. However once these cells lose their control,
what happens is that they will keep on growing until they become cancerous [2]. Ultimately this
means that the natural surrounding layers that did act like barriers for these cells are now
broken and therefore allows the spread of these malignant cells to other organs within the body,
particularly the bones and lymph nodes [2]. When this does take place the risk of death also
increases. At the age of 85, a man is said to have a 1 in 5 chances of developing prostate cancer
sometime in their life. The risk is said to double if a male has a first degree relative who has been
diagnosed with prostate cancer.
Clinical features: Symptoms and signs
Every human body is slightly different in their own way and because of this reason there are
people who do not experience symptoms of prostate cancer [3]. Unfortunately Prostate cancer is a
disease that does not give any warning signs when it is growing. In most cases a male with
prostate cancer does not receive any specific symptoms of concerns; reason is that prostate cancer

The Pros and Cons of School Choice Essay
Benefits and Disadvantages of School Choice
The purpose of this research paper is to investigate the benefits and drawbacks of school choice
with respect to the impact on the students involved in the process. Over the years, school
vouchers, school choice and charter schools have been grouped into one umbrella category known
as school choice. The three types of school choice are very different yet very much the same and
each topic will be discussed in depth and analyzed with examples and opinions from other authors.
Overall, there have always been experts with both positive and negative remarks about the issues
surrounding school choice.

Some arguments on the advantages of school choice were found on the website
schoolchoiceinfo.org, which includes many stories about individual families who have benefited
from school choice. The website also explains how in Cleveland, Florida and Milwaukee over
14,500 families have benefited from school choice programs. Making the parents more involved in
the students education as well as feeling a higher level of satisfaction from the children s
education, the programs also provides less discrimination based on economic status, or racial
background, as well as many other things.
In Depth of School Choice
One family story is found on the website, schoolchoiceinfo.org, in informational website about
the benefits of school choice. The website describes how the Beauduy family of Florida
benefited from being able to partake of the school choice program. Being able to chose to send
one child to a magnet school out side the assigned school district, has shaped the family and made
the entire family happier overall allowing the family to have saved enough money to live in a safer
neighborhood. On the other hand, the article The Price of Public School Choice, by Howe, Eisenhart
and Betebenner, discusses the drawbacks of school choice. The authors explain how the schools
with more resources will gain too many students, leaving the students that cannot choose or do not
wish to, behind in the bad schools.

restaurant sales have stayed somewhat consistent over the past three years with a very slight

Importance Of The 10th Amendment
The United States Constitution is the founding document of the current system in the United States
of America. The Constitution establishes the powers of the different branches of the government,
as well as creates the different laws of the land. Anything written in the Constitution or in its
amendments becomes part of the supreme law of the United States. As such, the Constitution and its
amendments, is the most important document in the land. With this being the case, it is important
for Americans to know about the amendments, and one of the most important amendments in the
Constitution is the 10th amendment. The 10th amendment is an extremely important amendment
that was necessary to help ratify the Constitution. The 10th amendment says: The powers not
delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to
the states respectively, or to the people (Cornell Law School). This amendment is essentially saying
that any powers that the Constitution does not expressly give to the federal government, those
powers fall to the state governments. This means that certain government entities not outlined by
the Constitution, such as the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) or the Department of
Education, which provide more power to the federal government, are in violation of the
Constitution. These bodies are allowing the government more power than the Constitution provides
them. This overstepping that these government agencies

Transactional Distillation Lab Report
Discussion: Extraction is a process in which one or more compounds is selectively dissolved with
an appropriate solvent. The compounds can then be isolated from their impurities through
extracting the original solvent into a second solvent. This requires that the compound be more
soluble in the second solventthan it is in the first. Also, the impurities are to be insoluble in the
second solvent. Furthermore, these two solvents must be immiscible, unable to dissolve into each
other. These two solvents are then mixed together then allowed to separate. This separation also
allows the specific compounds to also operate into the two different layers, removing the impurities
from the desired compounds. Chromatography is a term that refers to... Show more content on

They each have their own advantages and disadvantages. For example, extraction is a relatively
simple process with controlled recovery and a large range of selectivity and flexibility.
However, emulsion can hamper the results, making it less accurate and efficient due to
compound loss. The three types of chromatography that were cover in lab each have their own
pros and cons as well. Thin layer chromatography (TLC) is beneficial in that it is also requires a
simple set up. It is also a a relatively quick and sensitive process. Furthermore, the components
that are separated in the process can be recovered by scratching the coating on the top of the
plate. Some of the disadvantages of TLC come from the fact that the plate length works as a
limiter, only being able to separate to the maximum length of the plate. This separation also
happens in an open system which brings room for error do to conditions such as humidity and
temperature effecting the process of separation. Gas chromatography (GC) shares in the fact that it
is relatively quick and it is also highly sensitive. It is also useful in that it gives fully quantitative
results. One of the main disadvantages of GC is that it only works with volatile substances that will
vaporize within the inlet. For this reason, things such as sugars cannot be used. Also, it can

Summary Of The Open Window
Staring out the open window, Megan let the quiet breeze blow in and flow through her long, brown
hair. This is where she would take in her last moments of silence. She watched as the branches
swayed in the wind, their leaves just starting to turn red and fall to the ground. She thought about

unpleasant reflections. She wondered if she would be able to make it through the rest of the day.
Summer was approaching, Megan could tell by the way the warmth of the sun danced across
her skin. She was finishing up her last week of school, excited to see what summer adventures
she would have this year with her parents. The school bell rang and all of the students ran to line
up in front of the door, screaming goodbyes at the teacher and at each other. One by one, they
exited the classroom, made their way down the once colorful halls, and then out the doors to
greet whoever was picking them up that day. Megan searched the crowd of parents, sprinting
towards her father who was standing with his arms wide open. How was your day Meg? Did you
learn any essential information today? her father had asked, embracing her in his gigantic bear
arms. From her view, her father stood like a tower, hovering over everything beneath him.

Foxtrot Dance History
The Fox Trot Approaching the 20th century it was hard to pick just one topic to write on. Since I

alternating two quick steps and two slow steps. The long walking movements involve a subtle
rise fall action. Turning movements are similar to Waltz, but with a more moderate rise and fall,
and more length wise action ( Foxtrot Dance Steps in Ballroom Dance. ). When researching I
found that the Fox Trot was associated with the Vaudeville era and was named after the Vaudeville

Since 1930, over 2,300 square miles of wetlands have disappeared and recording about 23 25 square
miles of wetlands are lost each year. This is equivalent to losing a football field every thirty eight
minutes (Losing Ground). Human and natural activities are at fault for the coastline destruction but
human activities are the most responsible for having accelerated the amount of destruction. One
major form of human activities that have hurt the coast was the construction of levees. Levees are
man made earthen hills that surround the Mississippi River, and many other bodies of water, and
protect people from the natural flooding that occurs. Levees are very helpful in a lot of ways and
are needed to have a safe place to live, but they hurt the marshes that surround Louisiana. The
levees that surround the Mississippi River are very good at their job and keep the river contained
but with the river contained, there is no natural flooding that occurs in the coastal marshes and
without the natural flooding, there is no depositing of sediment that replenishes and builds up the

Civic Virtue In Aristotle s Nicomachean Ethics
Aristotle was a premier Greek philosopher who had some very interesting concepts on ethics,

If anything promises happiness, then human will go in the direction it leads. Aristotle was also just

Individual civic virtues is connected to a world made up of a number of elements such as
understanding individual importance the community, and seeking to serve one s community.
Without a sense of civic duty, individuals would be lost and would not know how to interrelate with
other members of their community. Civic virtue is more than just acknowledging that the word is
made up of more than one individual, it is accepting that one is not alone, and thus one needs to
think of others when doing anything. Civic virtue is composed of various elements. One such
element is participation. In order to be virtuous civically, one has to actively participate in social
activities. Taking part means contributing one s skills, expertise and thoughts on matters that are
socially acceptable. Any community requires active participation of all its members, which is
something that is really not seen today. Another element of civic virtue is trustworthiness. Citizens,
in addition to being actively involved in what is happening in their respective societies should be
able to be trusted. This is because participation sometimes being involved means being accorded
responsibility of communal assets. They should be wasted, and they should not be used for
individual gain. This is important because sometimes people misuse things given to them by their
communities, and forget that they are not alone. This may lead to corruptive practices. Lastly, the
last aspect of civic virtue

Essay Arundel Partners Guidelines
Guidelines for the Arundel Partners Case Assignment
This is a group project and only one case report should be submitted
FIN 6425 Arundel Case GuidelinesNimalendran
In this case, a movie industry analyst is asked to evaluate a proposed venture in which a group of
partners would purchase the sequel rights to movies produced by the major studios. Your
objective is to 1) discuss and evaluate the basic concept; 2) determine the value of the sequel
rights on a per movie basis; 3) evaluate the possible upside and potential drawbacks to the
proposed plan. As you will see, the ideas here incorporate elements of capital budgeting coupled
with a real options analysis.
Please provide answers to the following questions. You... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Beyond this broad understanding, you shouldn t worry any more about how the specific numbers
were estimated but you should understand how to interpret them. For example for The Burbs, the
numbers in Exhibit 7 suggest that the value of the sequel at t=3 (using the suggested 12% discount
rate) is :
NPV (at t=3) = $27.3/1.12 $24 = $0.375 million.
It follows that the NPV at t=0 can be found by discounting the above number three years at 12%
doing so you get a value of $0.2669 million which is an estimate of what you pay for the sequel
right at t=0.
Looking at this in terms of an internal rate of return the one year return can be calculated as ($27.3
/24) 1=.1375 or 13.75% (this number has been rounded up to .14 or 14% in Exhibit 7). Note that
whenever this IRR is above 12%, the sequel will be positive NPV.
5. Assume that a maximum of ten sequels can be made in any given year (choose the sequels
that are most likely to be made for example if the main character in the film dies then a sequel is
unlikely to be made) Using the same decision tree approach, what would you estimate to be the
per movie value of the sequel rights to the entire portfolio of 99 movies released in 1989 by the six
major studios?
6. Using the Black Scholes approach, calculate the per movie value of the sequel rights to the entire

Essay On T. E. Lawrence The Battle Of Aqaba
T.E. Lawrence demonstrated his innovative leadership by subverting the Ottomans through
depleting the Turkish defenses at Aqaba, therefore bolstering the Allied Powers. Lawrence
condemned the continuing practice, used by both his British superiors and the Arabs, of attacking
the railroads leading to Medina. Specifically, with Medina heavily fortified, there was no purpose
for continually blockading and disrupting the Hejaz Railway. Instead, he suggested, [the Arabs]
needed to spread the Turks thin by expanding the warfront as much as possible (Anderson 306).
Furthermore, Lawrence expounded his incredible plan to cross the treacherous and barren Nefud
Desert and attack the Ottoman held Red Sea port of Aqaba. This port, and the surrounding outposts,
was a strategic location that provided essential... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lawrence recognized Auda s unique situation in that he held inland access to Aqaba. Moreover,
as the leader of the Toweihah tribesmen, the finest fighting force in Western Arabia, Auda
provided Lawrence with sufficient manpower to initiate a proper siege at Aqaba. Consequently,
Lawrence forged an alliance with Auda to plan for the Battle of Aqaba (Wilson 396 397).
Lawrence s partnership with Auda brought about a bloody attack at Aba el Lissan, where after a
squadron of Turks killed only a few Arabs, the Arabs responded by killing 300 men and captured
the remaining 300 as prisoners. Lawrence, who at the time was at Wejh, subsequently
interrogated six Syrian Arabs who offered detailed information on the garrison outpost at Ma an.
With only 330 troops, and a majority being Arba, Ma an, as well as the railroad leading to the
outpost, were weakly held (Wilson 400). The attack at Aba el Lissan was a notable example of
Lawrence s ability to form alliances with local tribes resulting in the depletion of Turkish

Watertown police Department. The three were suspected to be in a long string of burglaries.
New Year s night the Egan s were shot at a rest stop off interstate 81, as a result of this Joseph
Leone was arrested. Bill and Beverly Jay were anticipating a New Year s Eve gathering with
friends and family in Norwood, New York, when Bill pulled into a rest area. What the couple
stumbled upon on Thursday December 31 1964 was the murderof the Egan s.

Miner s Ethnography Of The Nacirema
The ethnography of the Nacirema is complex. Miner gives plenty of examples of the culture to
allow the reader to understand that the Nacirema society is actually referring to the American
people. Miner wrote, The holy mouth man opens the clients mouth, and using the above mentioned
tools, enlarges any holes with decay have created in the teeth. Magical materials are put into these
holes. (Miner. 2017) As I read about this ritual I found similarities that could be compared to
Americans getting their cavities filled. He also includes the rituals of where men, ...scrape and
lacerate their face with a sharp instrument. (Miner. 2017) Which would be equivalent to men
shaving their face and getting razor cuts. It is also explained that the Nacirema

Fast Food Nation Analysis
The Super Sized Problem of the Fast Food Nation
Everyday, millions of Americans and people around the globe consume fast food without knowing
anything about who makes their food, where it comes from, or what it does to their bodies. The
growing fast food industry has become a huge part of daily life for a large part of society and has
negatively influenced our present and future generations in terms of health.. Anti Fast Food
activists such as Eric Schlosser, author of Fast Food Nation, and Morgan Spurlock, producer of
Super Size Me, a documentary about the effects of eating McDonald s for thirty days and ninety
meals have on the human body, use their work to bring light to the secrets of the hidden fast food
industry. Schlosser argues that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Big corporations, such McDonald s, are given a substantial amount of freedom in their industries
when producing their products, freedom to choose their suppliers, workers, manufacturers and
more, but do not take responsibility for what happens to their consumers due to their products.
Morgan Spurlock brings up this issue in Super Size Me: In the U.S., we ve given corporations all
the powers and freedoms of an individual but with none of the responsibility, (Super Size Me). The
government does not enforce rules about what corporations can and cannot do when it comes to
their products. The food produced by fast food companies is filled with preservatives, unhealthy
amounts of salt, sugar, and fat, and does not display healthy serving sizes. Spurlock s doctor s
remarks about what improper nutrition can do to a person show us that the food that is being
served and produced by fast food corporations needs to be reviewed nutritionally: If somebody
were doing this to their liver with alcohol they could theoretically wipe out their liver...wipe out
their old liver cells and they d be in liver failure now I ve never heard of anyone doing this to their
liver with a high fat diet but I guess anything s

Disadvantages Of Smart Health Cards
SMART HEALTH CARD
ABSTRACT :
The scope of this paper is to bring about digitization in healthcare, where each individual s health
records are uploaded to the cloud and are accessed by a smart health card.
Smart card is used in information technology as a portable integrated device with data storage and
data processing capabilities. In other fields, smart cards used in health systems became popular due
to their increased capability and performance. Its efficient use with easy and fast data access leads
to implementation especially in security systems.
This paper has been done to concentrate on smart health cards which would be very useful to
patients who suffer from chronic illness. Smart cards are used for personal identification and
transfer of health data and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They tend to get damaged very easily. There is no guarantee that it can be kept safe for many
years by the patient. They are difficult to maintain over a longer period of time. In case of any
accidents, if the person readily has the smart health card with him or her, medication can
immediately be done by looking at their medical history. If the person gets unwell suddenly in a
place where he or she has got no manual medical reports with them, then smart health cards will be
of great use since there is no difficulty in carrying them to any place.
ADVANTAGES OF SMART HEALTH CARDS : They are easily portable. Records can be
maintained easily over a longer period of time. A complete medical history of the patient will be
available. Even if the patient is not able to explain his medical condition to any doctor, it can be
easily known from this card. It cannot be easily damaged. Even if the card is lost, the records of
the patient are not list since they are permanently present in the cloud. If their respective account is
signed up with the new card, their records are backed up to the new card.

Hitler s Powerful Leadership Essay
Hitler s Powerful Leadership
The setting was perfect as the people of Germany were primed and ready for any leader that
would tickle their ears with what they were wanting to hear. World War I was over (#4) and the
people of Germany were in an economic depression that crippled the country. The German mark
had lost so much value that it took a wheelbarrow full of money to buy a loaf of bread. A good
portion of the youth in Germany were raised in fatherless homes. In an article written by Dr. Alice
Hamilton, she says this about Hitler s youth: They were children during the years of the war when
the food blockade kept them half starved, when fathers were away at the front and mothers
distracted with the effort to keep their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Hitler s attempt to gain political control and power he used coercion through a process of force
and threats to influence people. Coercion is forcing people against their will to do what one wants
them to do. Although threats and force can change behavior, they usually aren t the best
approach. The recipient of the threats can counterattack, leading to an escalating cycle of
hostility (Adler Elmhorst 421). Hitler and his Nazis threatened high treason resulting in death if
people agreed with reparations (Chambers et. al 937). Hitler formed and organized the SA
(Street Army) police, and the SS, a select group of bodyguards dressed in black, that helped to
carry out his coercion practices on a national scale. In order to maintain control on a national level,
he needed to eliminate his opposition or those who did not cooperate and stood in his way. Hitler
admitted to 74 deaths; subsequent estimates raise the figure to as many as a thousand (Chambers
et. al 939). All of this terrorism was so he could maintain control with a strong arm, even within his
own circle of influence.
Hitler was also a master of using manipulation through a process of deception and propaganda to
influence people. Manipulation is tricking the other party into thinking or acting in the desired way.
Often when the deceived have discovered that they have been manipulated, they will be completely

English Language Learners For My Assessment
Profile
The intended English language learners for my assessment would be primary aged students who
are at the beginning level, according to WIDA. Primary aged students are students in kindergarten
through grade 2, and WIDA describes students as beginning if they (a) understand and speak
conversational and academic English with hesitancy and difficulty, (b) understand parts of lessons
and simple directions, and (c) are at a pre emergent or emergent level of reading and writing in
English, significantly below grade level. (http://ell.dpi.wi.gov/sites/default/files/imce/ell/pdf/elp
levels.pdf). Although my students would be young, they could be classified as significantly below
grade level if they cannot identify letters and perform poorly on the kindergarten screening and
running records. Most ELL students at this age are not literate in their native language, which may
make learning English literacy more difficult.
Rationale
The test I designed I could currently use with some of the students in my classes. I teach
kindergarten and first grade English Language Arts and Social Studies and we have a moderate
number of immigrant students whose parents do not speak English. Although we do not have an
ESL program, our bilingual program draws many native Spanish speaking students to our school
because their families want them to maintain their Spanish. We also have immigrant students from
other countries, such as Middle Eastern and African countries. This exam covers some of

The High Cost of Genetic Engineering Essay
The High Cost of Genetic Engineering
Genetic research on human embryos, in correlation with the human genome, is the key to gene
therapy, genetic diagnosis, and even to genetically engineered human beings. Knowing which gene
controls what trait and causes what genetic disease will arm doctors with a powerful tool to treat
their patients at the molecular level. On the other hand, this allows people to possibly manipulate
genes to enhance specific traits or create the perfect baby. Genetic research on human embryos has
two implications. A practical one in therapeutic research (to detect, and hopefully correct gene
flaws), and then the potentiality of allowing parents to decide how their child should look (or in an

Eugenics was and is thought to improve society and help eradicate diseases. There are two uses
of eugenics: positive and negative. Positive eugenics is increasing the procreation of those with
traits considered desirable or beneficial (Davis, 1981 and Saetz, 1985). Negative eugenics is
stopping the procreation of those with undesirable traits through sterilization, birth control, abortion
or counseling (Davis, 1981 and Saetz, 1985). Eugenics is thought to rid the world s population of
bad or diseased genes (Saetz, 1985. This practice, however, leads to intense discrimination against
those with low status, low IQ, etc (Davis, 1981).
The history of eugenics shows the ugly turn which genetics can take. The most prevalent example
is that of the Nazi regime and its policy of killing off Jews and Gypsies, who were thought to be
inferior (Saetz, 1985). Nazi and US compulsory sterilization laws, which sterilized the feeble
minded, schizophrenic, epileptic, depressed, etc., is also another example (Saetz, 1985). 410,600
people were sterilized in Nazi Germany alone (Saetz, 1985). The birth control movement also
embodied a sense of eugenics, making it a privilege for the rich and a duty for the poor. Marget
Sanger, a birth control activist, was quoted saying, The chief issue of birth control

Implementing Learning Communities At The Community College...
Introduction Many students start college and end up either dropping out or taking an exuberant
amount of time to complete. This is especially true for the community colleges, where the majority
of the students are commuters, a large portion work and some have family obligations. Many
institutions have started addressing these circumstances by creating learning communities. The idea
of implementing learning communities at the community collegelevel can be the change that is
needed for the success of these students. In order to execute this change, an understanding needs to
be developed for the needs of the organization, in this case Citrus Community Collegein Glendora,
California. The resources need to be identified, including the... Show more content on

The students in the learning communities will take some courses together, often with a common
theme link. There are at least five basic models of learning communities that share three common
factors: shared knowledge, shared knowing and shared responsibility (Rao, 2005). The courses
are linked together and the students can share knowledge with each other. By sharing this
knowledge the students enrolled in the classes together, get to know each other due to the fact
they are together more often. The students become dependent on each other to get work
accomplished and this shared responsibility helps the students learn to collaborate. The five
basic models include linked courses, learning clusters, coordinated studies program (CSP),
freshman interest groups (FIG) and federated learning community (FLC) (Rao, 2005). I would
like to implement the freshman interest group as one of the models of the learning community,
into the academia at Citrus Community College. It entails three freshman courses being linked
together, usually involving an area of interest. Weekly peer advising session will be held where
the students can meet and discuss their coursework, professors, and college life in general. One
of the courses that all students would be required to take is a general course called College 101.
This course involves various aspects of college life such as student success, develop and transition
into college. Each week a topic is discussed

Bioinformatics Algorithms: Dr. Kate Cooper
A Comparative Analysis of Force Directed Layout Algorithms for Biological Networks
Brief Description:
I will conduct a comparative analysis of multiple force directed algorithms used to identify clusters
in biological networks. The analysis will consider topics such as the algorithm process, amount of
preprocessing, complexity, and flexibility of the algorithms for different types and sizes of data.
K Means, SPICi, Markov Clustering, RNSC, and PBD will be used for the comparison. I will
identify the best algorithm according to my analysis for each type of input data studied.
Background: how to determine if a clustering algorithm is good/if a cluster is good→ modularity
Proteins control all processes within the cell. Though some proteins work individually, most work
in groups to participate in some biochemical event. Examples of these processes include protein
protein interaction networks, metabolome, correlation/co expression values, synthetic lethality, and
signal transduction (Cooper, lecture). The study of proteins that work together can allow a greater
understanding of cellular processes. New pathways, proteins, or systems can be identified via
network analysis. In order to recognize groups of proteins that work together, a biological network,
called a graph, is formed.
The study of graphs has a prominent history in mathematics and statistics. Graph Theory

  • 2. Compare And Contrast Heydrich And Ernest Shackleton (STATE THESIS) When it comes to the leading their respective teams, Ernest Shackleton and Reinhard Heydrich s approaches to leadership could not be more contradictory. This is not to say that their differences make either of them a good or misleader. Each individual demonstrated qualities that would classify him in either category. However, it is ultimately the intentions of the leader and the presence of or complete disregard for humanity that categorizes each man where he falls. Holistically, in order to determine what makes an individual an effective leader or a misleader, one must first understand the aspects of leadership. While it is impossible to condense what makes a leader into a short list of qualities and ideas, for the intent of this paper, the comparative aspects of leadership will be limited to: character, skills/talent, and results. To begin, character can be understood as the mental and moral qualities distinctive to an individual. Warren Buffet was quoted saying, there are three main qualities involved in leadership: integrity, intelligence, and energy; without the first, the other two will kill you, (Warren Buffet). In reference to Ernest Shackleton, the mariner was known by his crew to be optimistic, generous, and fair. At the beginning of their expedition, however, these qualities were subdued by Shackleton s hubris. It should be noted that, no mariner distinguished themselves on a smooth sea, (The Endurance Movie). Should English be the Official Language of the United States Name ENG 122 Instructor April 30, 2012 Should English be the Official Language of the United States The debate on whether the United States should make English the official language has been raging within the borders of the country for decades. Several bills have been presented to Congress over the years, but have stagnated due to the opposition on either side. Though there would certainly be drawbacks to introducing English as the official language of the United States, there would also be immeasurable benefit. Not only would an official language streamline government processes and reduce government spending, it would also aid the United States by unifying its people. ... The federal government also spends millions of dollars funding the Immigration and Naturalization Services which is currently required to translate the citizenship test into multiple languages. In all, U.S. taxpayers shell out $13 billion a year funding a multi lingual government (U.S. English, 1995). The laws currently in the books are even being used to squeeze more money out of the government and businesses. Executive Order 13166, which was signed by President Clinton and later enforced by President Bush, requires all federal agencies and recipients of federal funds to provide translation services for non English speakers. This requirement is at the American tax payer s expense. An Iranian immigrant in Oklahoma recently used the Executive Order as grounds for complaint asking the U.S. Department of Transportation to investigate the state because it failed to give the driver s license exam in Farsi (McAlpin, 2008). The U.S. Supreme Court rejected the argument citing an individual may not sue for foreign language services by charging discrimination under the nation origin category of the Civil Rights Act. Even the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and Health and Human Services (HHS) are rallying support for those citizens who do not currently speak English well or at all. • 5. Evaluate the Arguments, Presented in the Course,... Language is our main means of communication and learning, without it we would not understand each other efficiently enough to communicate our needs and thoughts. It is a very complicated feature of human cognition. Yet children acquire language very naturally and quickly without any formal instruction. Many language experts such as Chomsky (1965) and Pinker (2000) believe this suggests that there is some innate predisposal to acquire language, by this it is meant a genetic mechanism that holds what he calls the universal grammar common to all languages. Noam Chomskycall s language the human essence (1972). He is a discontinuity theorist, this means he believes the human brain appears to have an inborn capacity to learn and obtain... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Humans who began to learn language would find it easier to survive and then pass on their language to their children and so on. Therefore Darwin s theory does not support Chomsky s claim of humans having an innate predisposal to acquire languages as he believed it was something that has evolved and then been developed over time, not something that has always been present in our genetics. Most animals communicate with one another non verbally, for example some bee species have very specific and evolved ways of communicating with each other about the location and quality of food (Winston, 1987, p. 25) or the emperor penguin which uses an intricate set of calls that are very vital for individual recognition between parents, offspring, and mates, demonstrating a very wide range of individual calls from all the penguins (Williams 1995, p. 68). As all these forms of communication appear to be very natural to the species they are relevant to, it suggests they are easily developed and learnt through the social context the being is in. Perhaps this means that these forms of communication are innately predisposed to the specific species, which would surely mean language to be innately governed within humans as it s our way of communication. However one cannot really compare the communications of animals to humans as the humans have a much greater mental capacity than that of any other species. Although other species can communicate, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Persuasive Essay On Drinking Soda In a recent General Conference address remembered by youth and adults alike, President Dieter F. Uchtdorf explained the challenge of learning how to use a computer when he first became an apostle in 1994. He jokingly describes how it took a lot of time, patience, reassurance, and many liters of a diet soda that shall remain nameless , to which the congregation let out a hearty laugh. President Uchtdorf s statement about drinking soda became a justification and repeatedly quotable moment for Latter day Saints who frequently drink caffeinated sodas, despite its similar chemical effects to coffeeand tea, drinks that are well known as against church standards. On September 21, 2017, Brigham Young Universitymade a change to their distributable goods by starting to sell caffeinated soda drinks on campus, something Food Services had previously made the decision not to do since the mid 1950s. This decision not only lead to cheering students who no longer felt the need to smuggle their drinks from off campus sources, but made international news, inspiring stories from NPR, The Washington Post, The New York Times, and BBC. However, this decision lead to some disagreement among a few who believe caffeinated beverages are not in line with the standards of the gospel. The newly offered caffeinated drinks on BYU campus should not be sold because of the drinks health concerns, addictive properties, and violation of Word of Wisdom principles. The thought of having Emma Stone being the protagonist is a film, is a great fit for this type of character in the movie. I believe that Emma Stone have certain way of showing a leadership role a multiple of films that she starred in. Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer did a magnificent job playing as the role off the two maids. • 9. Hamlet and a Midsummer Night s Dream In one of AMND s most enduring passages, Lysander states (Act one scene one, line 134) The course of true love never did run smooth. The conflict that is inevitably born out of love is a central theme at the heart of Midsummer s Night s Dream and Hamlet, but is extended by Shakespeare not only to romantic relationships, but to familial bonds as well. The conflict is ultimately resolved in diametrically opposing ways in each play, according to the conventions of their respective genres. Hamlet is a tragedy, and therefore can result only in death, but AMND, as a comedy, uses the traditional method of marriage to resolve its conflict. When Polonius finds out that Ophelia has been conducting a romance with Hamlet, he insists that she no longer have contact with the prince: I will teach you. Think yourself a baby. (1.3.105) Polonius convinces Ophelia that she has been naГЇve and stupid to believe Hamlet s professions of love: Affection? Pooh! You speak like a green girl. (1.3. 101) In Polonius s dialogue, Shakespeare repeatedly employs images of Ophelia as a child to portray how her father psychologically controls her, by making her dependent on his commands, as a young child would: I shall obey, my lord. (1.3.136) In AMND Shakespeare constructs a similar conflict around a father daughter relationship, as Egeus wants his daughter Hermia, to marry Demetrius and not her lover, Lysander. Shakespeare draws upon ancient Greek mythology to portray his characters and their respective philosophies. Egeus displays Apollonian attributes as he paternalistically favours a strict adherence to the law above all else, even to the point of death: As she is mine, I may dispose of her...or to her death according to our law. (1.1.43) Egeus commoditises his relationship with his daughter, as he considers her a possession to be controlled and exploited. Like Polonius who commands Ophelia to set your entreatments at a higher rate (1.3.122), Egeus s diction is replete with the language of commerce as he tries to trade his daughter: and she is ... Status Of Women In Victorian England Essay We certainly can t pick our families, though I am sure many of us have had thoughts of what life would be like if we were born into a different lifestyle. While your ascribed status is the status you were born into, your achieved status is what you achieve during your life. Oftentimes people will let their circumstances dictate what they become, but those striving to attain a higher status will usually find a way to change their circumstances if possible. One great example would be of women in Victorian England. Women during this era were given no legal status whatsoever. • 13. Rise Of Buddhism Research Paper The fifth and fourth centuries B.C. were times of a worldwide intellectual renaissance. It was an age of great thinkers, thinkers like Socrates and Plato, Confucius and Lao Tzu. In India, it was the age of the Buddha Shakyamuni, or simply the Buddha, after whose death a religion emerged that eventually spread far beyond the reaches of its homeland. In order to understand Buddhismand its art we must first know who the Buddha was. Siddhartha Gautama, who later became known as the Buddha, was born as a prince to the royal family of Kapilavastu, whose kingdom was located in the Himalayan foothills. At the time of his birth, sages predicted that he would become a universal conqueror, a conqueror of either the physical world or of men s minds. It was the latter conquest that came to pass. Giving up the pleasures of the palace Siddhartha went on to seek the true purpose of life, Siddhartha first attempted the path of severe asceticism, only to abandon his efforts after six years, as it was a futile exercise. He then sat down in yogic meditation beneath a banyan tree until he achieved enlightenment. He was known henceforth as the Buddha, or Enlightened One. Upon his death the Buddha requested that he be cremated and a memorial be built at a place where people can gather. These memorials, which are known as Stupas, are the first example of Buddhist art. At first these stupas were simple structures shaped like rounded mounds meant to represent the curving form of the universe. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I wanted to establish my authority, while also ensuring that all of my students felt like they learned something new or got clarity on something they were confused about. As a began tutoring, I realized that my demeanor in the writingsessions, should have been the least of my concerns. Most of my students, engaged in the writing session, felt free to ask questions, or even laughed in the session. I think that was in part to me not taking myself too seriously in the sessions. I naturally compliment my students, and leave most of my anxieties behind. I encourage my students to not be reserved or afraid to tell me if they are confused, by being as transparent as possible. This means that during several times in the session I will ask or say, Did that make sense, You look a little confused. Let me explain that in another way, or I m sorry if I confused you before. Since I did not have a good understanding on what the Fox Trot was or how it originated, I decided to dig into some research. After spending some time I had found that the Fox Trot was one of the most famous dances at this particular time. The Fox Trot is defined as a ballroom dance that has alternating two quick steps and two slow steps. The long walking movements involve a subtle rise fall action. Turning movements are similar to Waltz, but with a more moderate rise and fall, and more length wise action ( Foxtrot Dance Steps in Ballroom Dance. ). When researching I found that the Fox Trot was associated with the Vaudeville era and was named after the Vaudeville actor, Harry fox. Although, that was not his real name, he was born with the name Arthur Carringford in Pomona, California, but in 1882, he adopted the stage name of Fox after his grandfather ( Foxtrot Dance History Origins of Ballroom Dance. ).... These marshes help break down and suck up storm surge and high tides that would take out Louisianas gold, New Orleans. This is equivalent to losing a football field every thirty eight minutes (Losing Ground). Human and natural activities are at fault for the coastline destruction but human activities are the most responsible for having accelerated the amount of destruction. One major form of human activities that have hurt the coast was the construction of levees. Levees are man made earthen hills that surround the Mississippi River, and many other bodies of water, and protect people from the natural flooding that occurs. Levees are very helpful in a lot of ways and are needed to have a safe place to live, but they hurt the marshes that surround Louisiana. The levees that surround the Mississippi River are very good at their job and keep the river contained but with the river contained, there is no natural flooding that occurs in the coastal marshes and without the natural flooding, there is no depositing of sediment that replenishes and builds up the marsh. This creates an upset in the balance of land loss and land gained. The subsidence due to the lack of new sediment accounts for 53% of the land loss in Louisiana over the past ... Individual civic virtues is connected to a world made up of a number of elements such as understanding individual importance the community, and seeking to serve one s community. Without a sense of civic duty, individuals would be lost and would not know how to interrelate with other members of their community. Civic virtue is more than just acknowledging that the word is made up of more than one individual, it is accepting that one is not alone, and thus one needs to think of others when doing anything. Civic virtue is composed of various elements. One such element is participation. In order to be virtuous civically, one has to actively participate in social activities. Taking part means contributing one s skills, expertise and thoughts on matters that are socially acceptable. Any community requires active participation of all its members, which is something that is really not seen today. Another element of civic virtue is trustworthiness. Citizens, in addition to being actively involved in what is happening in their respective societies should be able to be trusted. This is because participation sometimes being involved means being accorded responsibility of communal assets. They should be wasted, and they should not be used for individual gain. This is important because sometimes people misuse things given to them by their communities, and forget that they are not alone. This may lead to corruptive practices. For example for The Burbs, the numbers in Exhibit 7 suggest that the value of the sequel at t=3 (using the suggested 12% discount rate) is : NPV (at t=3) = $27.3/1.12 $24 = $0.375 million. It follows that the NPV at t=0 can be found by discounting the above number three years at 12% doing so you get a value of $0.2669 million which is an estimate of what you pay for the sequel right at t=0. Looking at this in terms of an internal rate of return the one year return can be calculated as ($27.3 /24) 1=.1375 or 13.75% (this number has been rounded up to .14 or 14% in Exhibit 7). Coercion is forcing people against their will to do what one wants them to do. Although threats and force can change behavior, they usually aren t the best approach. The recipient of the threats can counterattack, leading to an escalating cycle of hostility (Adler Elmhorst 421).
