Mobile social networking is growing rapidly. According to comScore, 30.8% of smartphone users accessed social networking sites in January 2010, up from 22.5% a year ago. The growth is driven by increasing adoption of 3G networks, smartphones, location-based services, and the convergence of the web and mobile. Popular social networks like Facebook and Twitter are seeing huge increases in mobile traffic. While only 5.4% of Korean users currently use mobile social networking, vendors are developing new features and open platforms to connect people and expand their services to mobile.
