Erickson Reflection
This week we learned about Erickson and his theory on development. Erikson studied under the Freud
method, but unlike Freud, Erikson actually did research on infants and children as they were
developing. I really enjoyed learning about Erikson considering I have a 5 month old at home growing
away. It was interesting to compare these videos to where my baby was in development. Another
interesting thing about this module was the James Marcia Identity Status which consists of 4 parts
foreclosure, achievement, diffusion, and moratorium. Diffusion is when you have not really made a
commitment to anything yet. This is typically a high school junior/senior or even college
freshman/sophomore. They have not yet figured out what they want to do with life yet and honestly,

labor, I believe that Melville provides much more in his writing. Within the details provided in the
story, he manages to forge a metaphor for the power of transcendental ideals such as self reliance and

Christopher Boone articulates The Curious Incident, however, this novel isn t told by an average
fifteen year old boy; Christopher has Asperger s syndrome this isn t stated in the novel, but we can
acquire this knowledge simply by reading Christopher s words. People with Asperger s tend to have
difficulty with social interactions, and Christopher clearly displays this inability when trying to figure
out the emotions on the paper that Siobhan draws for him (1), also when he states, I find people
confusing (17). Another aspect of Asperger s syndrome is a fascination with letters and numbers, this
aspect is clear in the labeling of the chapters with prime numbers, his tactic to calm him self down by
doing math in his head and finally by his adamant need to take A level math and eventually physics.
Nevertheless, this uniqueness about Christopher creates an unexpected narrative twist on this murder
mystery novel. The Curious Incident is written from the perspective of Christopher Boone, and while
Christopher s character conducts a very methodical schedule, and dislikes disorder; the novel itself is
constantly floured with tangents from the main story, that gives you insight into who Christopher is,
for example Chapter 29, when he describes why he dislikes people, this is not necessary to the
storyline about Wellington s murder, but more of a descriptor of Christopher.
