Carol Rose Tattooing Analysis
In an article written by Carol Rose, who is a lawyer and journalist and serves as executive director of
the Americal Civil Liberties Union of Massachusetts, she discusses the right to free expression by the
way of tattooing. In the article On pins and needles defending artistic expression she expands on how,
even though tattooing is an ancient form of art that is practiced by many people, it was still illegal in
many states throughout America as of the date of the article being written. This article was published
to Boston.com April, 2010. When it was published tattooing had been illegal in Massachusetts and
many other states (Rose). She uses a claim of fact to justify her point by showing that it took a case by
the ACLU to change Massachusetts

Advantages Of Extensible Markup Language
Extensible Markup Language (XML)
1.1 Introduction
What is the Extensible Markup Language (XML)? Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a subset of
the Standard Generalized Markup Language, which is a marker for an electronic document to have a
structured markup language.
In the computer, the mark symbol refers to information the computer can understand, by this token,
you can handle that contains a variety of information such as articles between computers. It can be
used to tag data, defining data types, is a technology that allows users to define their own markup
language source language. It is ideal for Web transmission, providing a unified approach to describing
and exchanging independent of applications or vendors of structured data. Internet ... Show more

XML is like JAVA application is fully compatible with, and it can be used with any application

language, which means you can create your own tags, or use the label has been created.
There are other advantages of using XML. It is a language independent platform. It can be deployed
on any network, if it is an application friendly usage and use. If the application can work with XML,
then XML can work on any platform, knows no borders. It is vendor independent and autonomous

Now moving into chapter 21 of The Goal, Alex has...
Now moving into chapter 21 of The Goal, Alex has identified the problems/bottlenecks in his factory.
His goal now is to identify the back log of orders and get them through the bottlenecks, get them
assembled, and shipped out to the buyers as soon as possible. Alex and his team determines that one of
the underlying causes of their present parts pile up at the bottlenecks is because the operator cannot
tell the difference between a bottleneck destined part and an ordinary one. The operator, in an attempt
to keep busy, processes batch after batch of non bottleneck parts when what they really need to do is
work on bottleneck parts. They attempt a solution for this by placing red and green tags on the parts
which are destined for a bottleneck ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jonah shows that they can use the same method to develop a release system for materials throughout
the system. By knowing when the bottleneck parts will reach final assembly, the release of the non
bottleneck materials can be timed to coincide along the other routes. Then Jonah indicates that after
load balancing is performed to meet market demand without excess production, the next logical step is
to reduce the batch sizes to reduce the total capital commitment used during production. Reduction in
batch sizes also reduces the total time spent in work in process. Less time spent in production
increases the speed of throughput as well as a faster turn around on customer orders. Shorter lead
times result in better response to the market demands. (Jackson, Goldratt, Cox, American Media
Incorporated, 1995) At this point the factory is operating at a capacity like never before. They have
been shipping a record number of orders in a record amount of time. All of the orders past the
shipping date have been completed and shipped. They are now shipping current orders on time and
early in in some cases. Now that the plat is responding better to market demands, Alex can focus on
sales throughput, and gets the division sales manager, Johnny Jons, to market his plant s improved
capacity. Together they manage to tie down a major contract

Summary Of Letter From Birmingham Jail
The Letter From Birmingham Jail by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, he attempts to address the biggest
issue in the United States but more so in Birmingham, Alabama during 1963. In his letter, he makes
known the significant injustices towards the black community in Birmingham and in order to get his
point across, he uses appeals to emotion, ethical and logical appeals throughout his letter that was
never actually intended to be published. The second and third paragraphs state the thesis and says that
even though Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is not a resident of Birmingham, he was there for a specific
reason and that reason happened to be because of the many injustices that the white community was
facing the black community with. In the Letter ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Martin Luther King Jr. supports his thesis is by using appeals to emotion in his opening paragraph
when he realizes the importance of his audience, being the clergymen and their importance as leaders
in their community s. I feel that you are men of genuine good will and that your criticisms are

rights, appealing to the lack of progress and all the sense of frustration leading into the constant delays
in making a change. Planning peaceful protest for something just to come up and ruin the plans only
having to put it off longer, adding onto the hundreds of years the black community has waited. Having
aided in this community need, we felt our need that our direct action program could be delayed no

the whites have done to the Negroes as well as when he talks about how tough it is on children to learn
the discriminations blacks go through: When you suddenly find your tongue twisted and your speech
stammering as you seek to explain to your six year old daughter why she can t go to the public
amusement park that has just been advertised on television, and see tears welling up in her eyes when
she is told that Funtown is closed to colored children, and see ominous clouds of inferiority beginning

Ceramic Fragments Found At The Tepco Beach
In this project, we are asked to analyze ceramic fragments found at the TEPCO beach, which, in the
mid 20th century, used to be a dump site of the Technical Porcelain and China Ware Company
(TEPCO). Though ceramics seem rather mundane, as Deetz s study on the ceramics used in the
colonial American show, they reveal quite a bit to the careful eyes: he found out that people used
plates symbolically as displays of status rather than utensils, and the ceramic sets after the 18th
century reflected the Georgian mindset of individuality and discipline (Deetz 1996). I am also
interested in studying ceramics in a way that relates to and reveal their meanings a post processual,

Upon initial observation, I noticed that the special pieces seem to have less visual contrast in general a
good, testable hypothesis that I will try to verify. Methodology I wanted to figure out specifically what
data are the most useful in answering my research question: just like Wilkie did in her Mardis Gras
research in which she determined a distinct set of data for each of her research question (Wilkie 2014).
With that in mind, I decided to simply focus on the data needed to verify my rather straightforward
hypothesis, that the special pieces have less visual contrast than the standard ones in general. There are
two attributes, as evident from the hypothesis, that I would need to know for each artifact: its specialty
whether the piece has special or standard decoration and its visual contrast. Given the visual nature of
both attributes, I decided that the only data I would need to collect are pictures of my artifacts. Next, I
needed to decide how I would analyze the photos in order to extract the two attributes, specialty and
contrast, so that I can test my hypothesis. A way of classifying specialty was determined by me as
such: while the standard pieces have decorations

Security And Beyond Information Technology
To I.T. Security Beyond
Information technology has become a very dominant and ever growing industry in today s market.
People have taken notice of it, and thus have invested quite heavily into it. Everyone is going online
nowadays, more than ever before, but this is not just limited to people. Financial/Educational
institutions, and various companies are all online in one form or another; being interconnected to the
internet of everything. A prominent aspect of information technology is security, and it has been
attracting a lot of attention as of late. IT Security has garnered many companies and individuals to
invest so much into it; that it has essentially created an industry of its own. However, can all of this
investment in IT Security really be justified? Let it be known that the internet is not secure. It was
originally created by the US military for communication purposes, and since then has grown into
network upon networks of computers and computer systems, for everyone to use. With the exponential
growth that the internet has taken on, it s very hard to make it as secure as one would like. However,
there are measures and protocols that are put in place to do just that, secure the internet. The internet is
a combination of equipment, protocols and people, that when put together make everything
just...work. It is a multi layered system that depends on not just the technology itself, but those people
who manage/operate it, and of course the investment it requires for

Nella Larsen Passing Analysis
Nella Larsen s Passing challenges the traditional ideology of ethnic, racial, and gender integrity,
transforming the concept of an acceptable definition of identity, which both individuals and society
can appreciate. By developing exceptionally round characters whom are unstable and volatile, Larsen
builds monologues to display how easy it is to lose one s identity. Clare Kendry, challenges the
stereotypes, society has ascribed to her. Leaving her in a limbo for identity white or black, however,
she never has the chance to align to a particular identity because of her mysterious death, while Irene
Redfield, becomes obsessed and envious of Clare, destroying her own sense of self by committing
psychological suicide, in terms of assimilation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Larsen illustrates the husband as the example of societal norms by repressing such feeling and uses
Clare and Irene as the more progressive example of identity fluidity.
Some skeptics such as Audre Lorde: may, argue that the focus of Larsen s novella focused primarily
on the juxtaposition of race and sexual identity of Black feminism in the early twentieth century.
However, Larsen makes use of unstable identities that can been seen through the passage via Brian
Redfield and John Bellew. The husbands envelope the extent of male privilege and contrarily shows
their means of working against it. By exploring these men, it offers a more critical view to
understanding Clare and Irene

Deregulation of the Airline Industry
Deregulation of the Airline Industry
The airline industry has been subject of intense price competition since it was deregulated, and the
result has been a number of new carriers which specialize in regional service and no frills operations.
These carriers typically purchase older aircraft and often operate outside the industry wide
computerized reservations system. In exchange for these inconveniences, passengers receive low fares
relative to the industry as a whole. This research examines two low fare air carriers, ValuJet and
Southwest Airlines. By investigating these air carriers, we can better understand the economic impacts
of price versus service in the airline industry as a whole, as well as, the impacts on passenger ... Show

Because Southwest s flights are generally an hour or less in length, the airline saves money by not
having to serve meals. It has a liberal work rule arrangement with its unions, so productivity is high,

For example, Southwest gets 672 hours per year on average from pilots versus 371 for American

Berlin In The Twentieth Century Chapter Summary
In his book Berlin in the Twentieth Century: A Cultural Topography, Andrew J. Webber uses popular
texts, films and speeches to illustrate what life was like and how the city of Berlin became a
powerhouse in the 1900 s. Using these texts from many artists, most notably Walter Benjamin, Webber
is able to highlight the differences between Berlin and other important European cities, like Paris, to
show how it is influential in comparison during this period. Much of what I learned was not through
Webber s writings himself, but the works that he uses in his piece as sources. Through these quotes
and anecdotes Webber uses, I feel like I gained a sense of understanding of what life as a Berliner was
like during the pre war, war, and post war eras. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because of that, I particularly enjoyed the chapter Berlin Alexanderplatz: alterations and
reconstructions. I felt like I learned more about an important location in the city in this chapter than
the life and opinions of the artists that Webber sources. Since I got the most out of it, I am going to
explore this chapter deeply. Webber opens chapter four by discussing the current state of the public
square. Alexanderplatz has gone through many changes. Originally a cattle market, it was used as a
battleground in World War One (Webber 188). It was divided into East Germany, where it was
remodeled to fit the socialist regime before it was used for the largest protest in East Germany on 4
November 1989. Now, the ever changing square has returned to a marketplace (Webber

Sleep Apne The Cessation Of Respiratory Airflow
Apnea is defined as the cessation of respiratory airflow. Sleep Apnea is a growing disorder affecting
children and adults without discrimination to age, gender, race or sex. There are three main categories
of apnea: central, obstructive, and mixed. Although there are many forms of sleeping disorders Central
Sleep Apnea(CSA) is classified to be a less common sleeping disorder characterized by life threating
health conditions not limited to death if not diagnosed in a timely fashion and treated to prevent or
reduce the symptoms that cause the apnea threshold Pac02 levels to increase or decrease with
cessation of airflow during sleep. Central sleep apnea can increase the risk stroke, diabetes, obesity,
and high blood pressure. Only ten to fifteen percent people with sleep disordered breathing are
classified as having Central Sleep Apnea. Common sign and symptoms of Central Sleep Apnea
include trouble staying awake, shortness of breath, abnormal breathing patterns during sleep, and
sudden awakenings coupled with shortness of breath. Central Sleep Apnea occurs when there is a
decline in respiratory effort and as a result of inadequate medullary responsiveness or poor muscle
coordination for breathing. Central sleep apnea can be split into more than one main category
depending on the underlying conditions that contribute to the specific disorder. Depending on which
type of central sleep apnea a person has, a doctor will recommend therapy, medications, or surgery to

emergencies that can happen in a health and social care setting. Within my assignment I will be
explaining possible priorities and responses when dealing with two incidents or emergencies in a
health and social care setting. I will be discussing health, safety or security concerns that may arise
from the incident or emergency. Then I will be discussing how I would respond to them. An
emergency is defined as a serious, unexpected, and often dangerous situation requiring immediate
action. (Oxford University). An incident is defined as a relatively insignificant event that might have
serious consequences. (Collins, 2014). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Dark Matter Amanda Lucas Comparison
The bravest of individuals is the one who obeys his or her conscience . The strongest of minds follow
their own interpretation of reality, not what others would force upon them. These people would go
against reality even if it seems foolish or impossible to achieve an outcome they desire. In the novel
Dark Matter by Blake Crouch, the characters Jason Dessen and Amanda Lucas both illustrate that their
strength and courage originate from being able to trust themselves and defy others. Jason dessen is a
professor of physics who was brought into a different reality by a parallel universe version of himself,
Jason tries to defy the odds by returning to his home world. Amanda Lucas is the psychologist for the
velocity Laboratory, she goes against her co workers to free Jason dessen because she is frightened
that her co workers killed Jason s friends to keep their operation hidden. The strongest minds are the
ones who interpret their own ideal reality, this is demonstrated by Jason Dessen striving to return
home after staring down his possible oblivion, and Amanda freeing Jason from Velocity Laboratories
even if it means defying the operation. Jason ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Comparison Of The Price And Stephen King s Misery
The last two plays that I have seen on Broadway were Arthur Miller s The Price, and Stephen King s
Misery. Both plays were extremely interesting and captivating to watch because of their simple set
design, small cast, and concentrated, straightforward plot. Similarly, these plays employed non
exaggerated direction, and focused on more subtle movements and stage direction to focus on the
focal point of the scene. Both plays were mainly dramas, so the direction caused the plays to feel more
personal and visceral. In Arthur Miller s The Price, one significant stage picture that stood out was a
scene where Gregory Solomon (played by Danny Devito) is eating an egg downstage right center,
while Victor Franz (played by Mark Ruffalo) stands in center stage having an argument with Solomon.
Solomon was directed to sit further downstage than Franz in order to pull the audiences attention
towards his actions. In the scene, Devito devours a hard boiled egg while trying to explain furniture
appraisal to Ruffalo; Devito never stopped talking and eating (doing both at the same time). This
direction to not break dialogue further intrigued the audience because it pulled the audiences attention
towards Devito and the question of when he would finish. The physicality of the stage picture was not
excessive or magnified to draw attention, yet the scene was compelling because of the focused
attention on detail and realism in character movement and direction. In Stephen King s Misery, the

Invertebrate Biodiversity
Comparison of invertebrate biodiversity in vegetated and open water areas of an urban lake
INTRODUCTION
Interrelationships and interdependence between species in biological communities plays a major role
in the survival of ecosystems (Hafernik, 1992). Biodiversity refers to the variety of life forms and
species biodiversity relates to the varieties of species in a particular habitat (Flinders University,
2015). The greater the biodiversity in a habitat, the more complex are the interactions between species
and the higher the productivity of the ecosystem (Long, et al., 2007). This experiment looked at the
biodiversity of invertebrates in vegetated and open water areas of a freshwater system and the
Simpson s Diversity Indices were used as mathematical indicator of the invertebrate species diversity.
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The standard deviation was approximately the same for both habitats, which indicates that the
variation in the data was the same. This suggests that the vegetated area is more biologically diverse
than the open water area. Simpson s index of diversity is also higher for the vegetated area, 0.82,
compared to the open water area, 0.68 (Table 1). A higher value of Simpson s index of diversity also
indicates higher diversity in the vegetated habitat.
From figure 1 it can be seen that open water area of the north side of Flinders University Lakes was
more populated with a high number or organisms present than the vegetated area. However, this larger
population is mainly attributed to the large number of copepods (~750) present in the open water area
(shown in red in Figure 1). The vegetated area had a higher species richness with 17 species present
compared to 13 species in the open water area. This implies that the vegetated area had a higher level
of invertebrate biodiversity than the open water area of the

Syria Is The Heart Of The Middle East
Syria is located in Southwest Asia. According to National Geographic Syria is considered to be the
heart of the Middle East because of its borders. Syria borders Lebanon, Israel, Jordan, Iraq, Turkey,
Cyprus, but most importantly the Mediterranean Sea. Even though, the relationship between Russia
and Syria wasn t the best throughout the years it has become important. Syria has become an
important ally to Russia. Russia and Syria s relationship can be best described as a strategic plan. It
can be viewed as a strategic plan due to Russia s main concerns or interests toward Syria s weapons,
trade, natural resources and the access to the Mediterranean Sea. The Syrian Civil War is a war fought
to bring an end to the Authoritarian practices performed from the Assad family (Sharwood, pg. 1).
From 1971 to 2000 Hafez al Assad was President of Syria. Following the reign of Hafez al Assad his
son Bashar al Assad became President of Syria. Throughout the reign of his father violence was used
to suppress protests. This included the excessive use of police, military and paramilitary forces.
Therefore, these practices have served as a guide to solving problems. It is stated, The malign but
tactically brilliant Hafez al Assad blighted the Middle East with disproportionate Syrian influence for
decades. His son, the feckless Bashar, has continued this pattern since 2000 by sending terrorists to

Taking Control of Eating with Bulemia or Anorexia Essay
According to the article Eating disorders 101, it states that Between 5 and 10 million Americans have
anorexia or bulimia . People may not think of anorexia as an addiction, but in many ways it is.
Anorexia usually begins as a diet. People may feel a loss of control and dieting is something that they
feel they can have control over, thus feeling better about themselves. People will become closer with
their bodies and soon develop a preoccupation with food and fear of gaining weight. The person may
begin to notice something wrong but won t stop dieting because the quest for the perfect thin body has
become the most important factor in their life.

This could then result in the patient not reaching their full height and developing brittle bones. Many
doctors say that weight loss leads to many health effects. The lack of food causes the body to break
down and cause to function properly as internal organs, such as the kidneys and liver, begin to shrink.
Blood abnormalities include leukopenia (low white blood cells), thrombocytopenia (low platelet
counts), and osteopenia (thinning of the bones).
Anorexia has a big effect towards teens. According to the book Anorexia by Karen F. Balkin, it states
My story began 14 years ago when I was 12 years old. I was an awkward middle schooler who
desperately wanted to be beautiful and ached to be popular. I heard enough derogatory fat comments
and witnessed enough pointed fingers while growing up to know that I didn t ever want shunned and
ridiculed like that. Therefore, I came to the conclusion that to be beautiful and popular, you needed to
be thin. Some teens may feel the only way to fit in is to lose weight or the other teens will pick on
them. The other teens should indeed stop bulling anorexic teens because it ll encourage them to keep
starving themselves.
The first step in treating anorexia often is the most difficult one. The person with anorexia must admit
that he or she needs help. According to the book Anorexia by Bonnie Graves, it states First, the person
must be evaluated for any urgent medical problems. The next step is to help the person begin gaining

Erickson Reflection
This week we learned about Erickson and his theory on development. Erikson studied under the Freud
method, but unlike Freud, Erikson actually did research on infants and children as they were
developing. I really enjoyed learning about Erikson considering I have a 5 month old at home growing
away. It was interesting to compare these videos to where my baby was in development. Another
interesting thing about this module was the James Marcia Identity Status which consists of 4 parts
foreclosure, achievement, diffusion, and moratorium. Diffusion is when you have not really made a
commitment to anything yet. This is typically a high school junior/senior or even college
freshman/sophomore. They have not yet figured out what they want to do with life yet and honestly,
aren t too worried about. In my diffusion score I received a 5 meaning I guess I am in the middle. I m
not too sure if I agree with this accusation or not, but maybe that is why I scored this number.
Although I had my career path figured out and I was on the path to it up until a few months ago I feel
as though I have started testing the waters in other areas now. These areas are still very close to what
my original plan was. Now that I have a family I am focused more now than ever to pick the perfect
career for not just me, but my family. I feel as though I have always been well organized planned
women, but throwing a baby, husband, and other life changing circumstances into the mix has lead me

Trail Of Memory Research Paper
Trails of Memories According to William Shakespeare, One touch of nature makes the whole world
kin. Adventuring into the wilderness has been used as a spiritual clarity and rejuvenation throughout
human history. Our relationship with nature as a society has been altered due to new technology and
electronic components. To escape from the technologically empowered world, people have turned to
nature as a sanctuary to reestablish open mindedness and a magnanimous attitude towards oneself as
well as to each other. Ever since I was a young child, Garland Park has been a part of my life. This
place allows me to reconnect with my family, and provides peacefulness that helps me escape from the
chaos of the modern world to be one with nature. Because of these traits, Garland Park has always
been a sanctuary for me. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My family and I had been hiking in Garland Park my entire life. We do not go frequently, so it is
always a tremendous treat. One of my first memories took place in Garland Park. I was maybe five or
six years of age. My family, at the time, included my mother and father, my younger brother, and my
dog named Maple. When we reached our destination, I remember I had felt my lungs inflate with awe
with the onrush of scenery; the billowing trees, the serene ponds, and the overall calmness of the
environment left me in wonder. I remember running down the trail that parted the trees soaked in
autumn colors with only the wind holding me back, feeling complete serenity. That particular hike was
a relatively short one due to my young age. I had wanted to stay there forever, and our short stay
ended far too quickly. However, I carried my awestruck wonder all the way down the trail and back

Designing A Computer Network -such
There are many things to consider when designing a computer network such as costs of components,
software and labor; communication, cohesion, expandability and many others. However, the end goal
in such an enterprise is to have a fully functional, harmonious, and cohesive tiered system where
duties and actions are divided, and delineated accordingly. One of the major network architectures
used to facilitate this process is known as the TCP/IP Protocol Suite. The TCP/IP Protocol Suite was
designed by scientists in the effort to support a new type of network known as the ARAPNET that was
being installed across the US in the late 60 s to 70 s. (White, 2013, p. 15) The challenge was to create
an open system whereby all networks could freely communicate with each other. The design was
based on a layered system whereby the user would connect at the topmost (or application) layer, while
at the same time being removed or separated from the lower (physical) layer. Although the number of
layers is not exactly set, depending on the source this number can range between five and seven
layers, with each layer providing services to the layer above it. For the purposes of this discussion
however, we will address the five layer model. The five layers of the TCP/IP Protocol Suite are:
Application, Transport, Network, Network Access (or Data Link), and Physical. (White, 2013, p. 15)
Application This layer supports all of the applications on the network. Some of the most frequent

Leadership Styles For A Leadership Essay
Introduction When I think about the type of leader I would like to be, there is one supervisor that
always comes to mind because of the positive environment she cultivated. In researching the different
leadership styles for this assignment, I believe that this is the style that she used with her staff. I was
interested in learning more about transformational leadership and how I can cultivate this style in the
way that I lead my current team as well as the way in which I lead future teams. Transformational
leadership is a leadership style that promotes change as well as improves performance in the
organization as a whole as well as on the individual employee level (Phaneuf, Boudrias, Rousseau,
Brunelle, 2016). James MacGregor Burns first introduced transformational leadership in his book
titled Leadership that he authored in 1978. Burns defined transformational leadership as leadership
that stems from one s core unchanging values and beliefs. Burns believed that transformational leaders
not only bring together their followers, but also positively influence their follower s values and beliefs
in a way that brings about positive change (Humphreys Einstein, 2003).
Transformational leaders are able to inspire employees to work towards a common goal by changing
their expectations, motivation and perception of why they are doing the work. Transformational
leaders cultivate a commitment from their employees, which encourages them to put aside self interest

How Did Emile Durkheim Characterize Suicide
Introduction
The primary source that will be discussed in this paper is Suicide written by Emile Durkheim.
Durkheim was a French sociologist who was most famous in the 19th and 20th century for his work
on the structure of society. During the time of his writings, he analyzed different social institutions and
the roles in which they play in society. As a result, his work was associated with the theoretical
framework of structural functionalism. The 19th century was most known for the Industrial
Revolution. This is evident in Durkheim s writing in Suicide.
Suicide The intent of Durkheim s writing was to discover why there was such an increase of suicide
rates as nations became industrialized and consumer capitalism became dominant. Durkheim s ...

Coming into a big school and leaving everything you know, often leads individuals to feel
overwhelmed and stressed. Additionally, when these individuals feel as though they do not fit in, they
are often lost. In the first year of university, students are experiencing so much more freedom than
they are used to. This adds pressure and as a result, not all individuals in these situations know how to
cope. In university, there are certain guidelines and expectations. This falls into altruistic suicide. You
are told as a student that you have to reach a certain GPA, be involved in clubs and sports and have a
job. This is over involvement and as a result students can become easily overwhelmed with the
expectations of school. Lastly, Durkheim discusses anomic suicide, which can be applied to the
confusion and lack of social direction as new students come into the new community of university.
Additionally, students have left their family, which has acted as a community, and have been placed in
an institution much how Durkheim was explaining. There is more likely to be moral confusion and
with a lack of direction, students have the ability to make bad decisions. The idea of failure is hugely
stigmatized in university students and can be seen as something university students fear the most.

Informative Speech On Hitler
Hi guys! I want to start my speech with this nice photo in my presentation. This photo shows that if
you had seen him when he was a child, you wouldn t think that he would be a destroyer, or even as
some people say: a killer of Jews. In 1889 there was a family with 8 members. Father s name was
Alois Hitler, mother s name was Klara Polzl. They had 6 children, 4th of them s name was Adolf
Hitler. They were living in Austria Hungary Empire, city of Branau Inn, this city situates now in
Austria. When Hitler was 3 years old family went to Passau city of Germany to live there. Klara Polzl

The Unbearable Lightness Of Being Character Analysis
The Unbearable Lightness of Being is written by Milan Kundera, a Czech novelist. It is mostly set in
late 1960 s Prague. The novel explores the state of life after the Russian military occupation of Prague.
The author does not follow a chronological order throughout the novel, which is a reflection of how
disorderly life is. It is a time of conflict both spiritually and physically. People start to question the
meaning of life if there is any meaning at all. Kundera begins the novel by refusing both Nietzsche s
interpretation of eternal return and Parmenides classification of lightness as positive and weight as
negative. Then he argues the point that lightness is unbearable and proves his point through his
observations of the four main characters ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He begins by explaining Nietzsche s interpretation of the concept of eternal return . Then, he tries to
prove that the concept does not exist for humans outside the realm of paradise. Thus, it is
unachievable. Later on he rejects Parmenides classification of lightness as positive and weight as
negative. Kundera believes that lightness may seem initially freeing and sweet but this sweetness
disintegrates gradually and eventually becomes unbearable. On the other hand categorizing one theory
as unbearable does not necessarily make the other bearable. If Kundera rejects both lightness and
weight; identifying them as extremities, where does that leave human beings? Do they choose
lightness, weight or maybe a little of both? These questions are not directly answered but are

Herman Melville s Bartleby The Scrivener
Bartleby the Scrivener delves into the life of a worker at a New York City Law firm. Herman Melville
provides a drab and bleak outlook on the conditions of labor and mental state of the workers at the
firm. Though the story can be seen as a depiction of the isolation and lack of passion found in big city
labor, I believe that Melville provides much more in his writing. Within the details provided in the
story, he manages to forge a metaphor for the power of transcendental ideals such as self reliance and
choice within a society. He illustrates a culture run not by one s own beliefs, but rather the generalized
other and people plagued by authoritarian ideals. By the end of the tale of Bartleby and his influence
within the firm Melville strives to change society by informing the reader of the importance of non
conformity and belief in one s ideals, but also the danger of following through with that in society.
Melville initially creates a setting that adds a sense of desolation and dreariness within the office, as
shown with the unobstructed view of a lofty brick wall, black with age and everlasting shade. This
provides a general outlook on the law firm as a place of sadness, routine work, and isolation. The idea
of being surrounded by wall also further depicts a sense of being physically trapped within their
office, and possibly symbolically in their job or capitalist culture. In addition to the bleak atmosphere
at the office, the workers at the firm are people who have

India Is A Western Country Near Asia
India is a western country near Asia. India is the seventh largest country there is and second for the
population of people who inherit this beautiful country. There are many different religions native to
this country as well as many different types of music. The country of India has history dating back
thousands of years, and the culture that is placed here is still Indian. Most of Indian culture has been
preserved throughout the centuries, with only slight variations coming from other cultures. Unlike
America, India is not a melting pot of culture, and this culture has been able to withstand the test of
time to remain as it was. India has a rich and diverse history, from the varying culture throughout the
country to the assorted types of music, called sangeet, used during different events.
India is placed in southern Asia, near the Himalayan mountain range. A man by the name of Vasco da
Gama first found this country while sailing the Indian Ocean. From there, the country flourished into a
nation. India has four native religions: Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Sikhism all originated in
India, and have now become prominent religions all over the globe. These religions each have
different kinds of music associated with the ceremonies and traditions connected to the culture.
Hinduism for example has music called, bhajans, and this music is essential to the followers of this
religion. Bhajans is music that is made for the pleasure of the gods. While worshipping, these Hindu

How Is Tom Buchanan And George Wilson Alike
Tom Buchanan and George Wilson are really similar but different. In the book The Great Gatsby Two
old lovers finally reunite, but this time things were not the same. Gatsby the broke, army man, who is
in love with Daisy, Toms wife. Nick the one who is stuck in between of the lover drama. In
conclusion, don be the one who is stuck in the middle of the drama, try to exclude yourself, its the best
thing to do!
Tom the old, ignorant man, who was born wealthy, with slave owners as his ancestors, he thinks he
can do what he wants when he wants, just because he has money. for an example when him and
Myrtle (Wilson s wife) whom Tom is having an affair with; She was saying Daisy, Daisy, Daisy. Tom
told her Don t ever say that. Myrtle didn t listen, and Tom being the ignorant man he is, slapped her.
Toms respect towards girls is a lot different than Wilson s. in the book The Great Gatsby Wilsons
never hit a girl, he yelled at Myrtle, but that is because he knew she was having an affair. Wilson was a
hard working man, and never really had time to show love to Myrtle. Tom, when he was home, the

The Jungle And Fast Food Nation Rhetorical Analysis
Relevant literature usually addresses real life situations, bringing light to serious issues. Most of the
time, an author will write in hopes to influence others to believe a certain way. Authors must strategize
to master the art of persuasion. There are multiple appeals a writer may use in order to get their point
across to the audience. The Jungle and Fast Food Nation use ethos, pathos, and logos in efforts to gain
support towards their purpose of improving the work conditions and quality of life for immigrants. In
order to convince an audience through an ethical appeal, a writer would use ethos. Ethos places an
emphasis on the credibility of the source. In The Jungle Upton Sinclair writes, In the beginning he had
been fresh and strong, and he had gotten a job the first day, but now he was second hand, a damaged
article... (Sinclair 90). Jurgis, Sinclair s character, goes from adoring capitalism to despising it. Since
he proves to be open minded, his feelings seem less biased. Once the reader observes the vicious cycle
Jurgis endures, it becomes difficult to make an argument against him. In Fast Food Nation Schlosser
states, We are human beings, more than one person told me, but they treat us like animals (Schlosser
169). Instead of just using a single source, Schlosser uses numerous. The fact that the author is
collecting stories from several different people makes the account more believable. When an author is

Greener Brominations Essay
Greener Brominations
Abstract
In this experiment, trans stilbene was brominated and debrominated with the use of three methods:
bromination with pyridinium tribromide, bromination with hydrogen peroxide and hydrobromic acid,
and debromination with zinc. The yields of parts A, B, and C are as follows: 68.6 %, 54.6 %, and 55.9
%.
Introduction
In the chemical process of bromination, an alkene is halogenated with bromine. Solvents that are
typically used include methylene chloride and carbon tetrachloride along with iodine, the traditional
reagent. However, because of the carcinogenic properties of the solvents and the corrosiveness of
iodine, other alternatives are utilized : bromination with pyridinium tribromide, bromination ... Show

How Industries Compete in the Textile Industry
Firms in the textile industry can compete using pricing or non pricing strategies. Pricing strategies
involves the use and manipulation of prices to increase market share and reduce potential and existing
competition in the textile industry. Non pricing strategies on the other hand refer to all the alternatives,
excluding price, that a firm uses to achieve the same objectives.
One of the most common pricing strategies used in the textile industry is the use of limit pricing. This
involves a firm setting a low enough price to deter new entrants from coming into the textile industry.
For example, a firm would set the price of their products below the estimated average cost of the new
entrant thus making the new entrant encounter a loss ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Successful adverts would mean that the consumers will buy products from the firm that had advertised
and this will increase their customer base and possibly profits. Other firms will also advertise heavily
and the success will depend on which advert caught the attention of the consumer. Furthermore,
advertising may increase the demand for a good and may make the demand for that good inelastic.
The inelastic nature of the good will then allow firms to raise price in order to cover the costs of the
advertising. However, advertising can be very expensive and deciding on the right methods of
advertising may be very difficult. Furthermore, the success of the advert depends on the action of the
other firms. If the other firms also decide to increase their advertising expenditure, then the firms may
not be able to catch the attention of as many consumers as they intended. This would mean that the
advertising was unsuccessful hence not promoting competition.
Another non pricing strategy that a firm may adopt is developing their products so that their products
are unique compared to rival firms products and customers would rather buy the unique products than
the ordinary ones. For example, in the textile industry, people usually look for a particular type of
fashion E.G. collared or non collared, tight T shirts or maybe even short sleeved shirts as compared to
long sleeve shirts. Firm in the textile industry can change their products to suite the tastes and fashions

Education was a landmark Supreme Court case because it called into question the morality and
legality of racial segregation in public schools, a long standing tradition in the Jim Crow South, and
threatened to have monumental and everlasting implications for blacks and whites in America. In

President Franklin D. Roosevelt said in his famous Four Freedoms speech that Freedom means the
supremacy of human rights everywhere. Our support goes to those who struggle to gain those rights or

segregation, FDR signed Executive Order 8802 in 1941 which created the Fair Employment Practices

the house like she s mental or something. Ugh she s listening to some boring stuff from her
generation, the dinosaur age (15).

with his wall (Shenk, 2013). We start to feel secure when layers are built because we believe it can
fully stop the problems, however, it s not made to eliminate the problem for good. In modern day

Virginia. He went to college at The College of William and Mary. Later, he studied law with George
Wythe. Jefferson was elected into the Continental Congress on March 27, 1775. A year later, in 1776
he was chosen to help four other men write the Declaration of Independents. Thomas Jefferson was
involved in things such as; law, and politics. He also was a statesman. He was elected Vice President
under John Adams, which made him be the second in the history of the United States, in the year of
1797. He served as Vice President from 1797 to 1801. When Jefferson was elected President, he was

The Expedition of Lewis and Clark
Lewis and Clark started their expedition in 1803. President Jefferson sent them to the west into the
Louisiana Purchase to explore the unknown land. when they were on this magnificent journey they
found a bunch of different species of animals and plants that didn t grow in the nation that was already
known. On the beginning of their journey, they went upstream, northwest of the Mississippi River to
Fort Mandan. From there they got crops and shelter to prepare for their journey. After this they set out
on their journey. On the Mississippi River they head for the Louisiana Territory. On August 20, 1804,
Sergeant Charles Floyd died. The Crew buried his body on a hill in present day Iowa. In late August
they found the Great Plains and a lot of elf and other animals. After they met many tribes of indians,
an indian let us take his pregnant 16 year old wife named Sacagawea with them on this journey to help
along the way. On the river was rapids and if it wasn t for her they would have lost their food and
supplies. On the journey, Lewis was making a map of the area, as well as a journal. They spotted a
bear for the first time and they didn t know what to do so, they ran as it chased after them. On
February 11, 1805 Sacagawea gave birth to her son named Jean Baptiste Charbonneau. This journey

The Curious Incident Of Christopher Boone
Christopher Boone articulates The Curious Incident, however, this novel isn t told by an average
fifteen year old boy; Christopher has Asperger s syndrome this isn t stated in the novel, but we can
acquire this knowledge simply by reading Christopher s words. People with Asperger s tend to have
difficulty with social interactions, and Christopher clearly displays this inability when trying to figure
out the emotions on the paper that Siobhan draws for him (1), also when he states, I find people
confusing (17). Another aspect of Asperger s syndrome is a fascination with letters and numbers, this
aspect is clear in the labeling of the chapters with prime numbers, his tactic to calm him self down by
doing math in his head and finally by his adamant need to take A level math and eventually physics.
Nevertheless, this uniqueness about Christopher creates an unexpected narrative twist on this murder
mystery novel. The Curious Incident is written from the perspective of Christopher Boone, and while
Christopher s character conducts a very methodical schedule, and dislikes disorder; the novel itself is
constantly floured with tangents from the main story, that gives you insight into who Christopher is,
for example Chapter 29, when he describes why he dislikes people, this is not necessary to the
storyline about Wellington s murder, but more of a descriptor of Christopher.
Another interesting narrative is the fact that it is a narrative about a dog; this also gives you insight

The Dead Poets Society
The movie Dead Poets Society is about a teacher who comes to an academy school to teach a english
class. His name is John Keating and he is one of the main characters in the movie. Mr Keating was an
alumni of the school he is now teaching at. There were many different lessons that the movie taught.
The first lesson is to Suck the marrows of life. The second lesson is to do your own things and be
independent. The third lesson is to look at life from different angles. The purpose of this movie was to
show people better ways and different perspectives on life.
One lesson that was expressed in the movie was to get the most out of your day as possible and don t
waste time on things that won t benefit you in the future. An example from the movie is when Neil
went into acting because he knew that s what he wanted to do instead of listening to his father and
going to harvard to study and become a doctor. Another lesson that was expressed in the movie was to
follow your own path and don t be a follower. In the movie the boys separated themselves from
everyone else in the school and snuck off into a cave and met together and created the dead poets
society. The third lesson is to look at life from different perspectives and angles. An example from the
movie is when Mr. Keating makes the boys stand on top of his ... Show more content on

He was showing how his style of teaching was different than all the other professors. He was the only
teacher to let the kids think for themselves and be independent. The ideas behind romanticism and
transcendentalism are that everyone is their own person. Transcendentalists believe that human
feelings and freedom is a very important part in your life. Throughout the movie, he shows them not
to rely on what the professors believe and what others think, but to think for yourself and do
everything your own

Heavy Metals
Heavy metals such as arsenic (metalloid), mercury, lead, and cadmium have a rich history throughout
the world. From Ancient Rome to the Vietnamese War, heavy metals have been used in many different
ways, sometimes leading people to death or illness. This research essay will go through the history of
the above mentioned metals, how they were used, and how they can affect people. Arsenic Among the
first uses of arsenic in in 19th century was in taxidermy and painting (Cooksey 2012). Soon after, it
was determined that arsenic was poisonous leading to the passing of the Arsenic Act in 1854 which
required a signature for buying arsenic (Cooksey 2012). Despite this people continued to use arsenic
for dyes and taxidermy. Many people grew ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The mercury that was ingested in Japan came in the form of methyl mercury. Methyl mercury can
cross the blood brain barrier and cause ataxia, sensory disturbances, and changes in mental state
(Cooksey 2012). Lead In the past, lead was used in smelting, and it was known that the vapors can be
deadly (Cooksey 2012). In ancient Rome, lead containers were used to hold food and drink and was a
constant source of chronic toxicity for many years (Cooksey 2012). Although people were recognizing
the effects of lead, it wasn t until after 1950 that legislation banned lead in food and drink cans
(Cooksey 2012). Today, lead poisoning is a huge concern in China as the country becomes more
industrialized and the production and use of lead increases (Hou et al. 2013). According to Hou et. al,
lead can affect many organs and destroy functions of the nervous system (2013). A person can
accumulate lead in their body from the environment, and it tends to stay there. This means that
younger children are more vulnerable the longer they are exposed to lead. Children s blood brain
barriers are also not fully developed yet, making them more susceptible to lead poisoning (Hou et al.
2013). It has been observed that lead can impair growth, memory, intelligence, and behavior in these
children (Hou et al. 2013). Hou et al, conducted a study to observe the trend between blood lead levels
and cognitive development of children (2013). They found that blood lead levels had an obvious

Drug Testing In Schools
Drug Testing in Schools Drug testing in schools is a very controversial issue with strong opponents
and proponents. The controversy comes down to legality, safety, and privacy, with both sides of the
argument having different perspectives on each. Drug testing for schools is a fairly recent
development in the educational system, supposedly aimed at fighting an evolving drug problem in the
United States. One side of the argument concludes that random drug testing is harmful, infringes on
students rights, and is ineffective at solving the drug problem. The first large scale national study on
student drug testing found no difference in schools that have drug testing programs and those that do
not (Appel). Side A claims that drug testing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This has been a topic that has only been recently discussed, with many concerns being raised about the
application of these programs, or not having them at all. Overall, the main goal of this proposal is to
come up with a plan that both satisfies the need for a drug testing program, and alleviates the concerns
of those who are wary of drug testing for the reasons of legality and effectiveness. In order to solve the
drug problem, there must be compromise in order to further our understanding of the issue at hand,
and this proposed solution allows for compromise that all can agree on. Works Cited Appel, Judith, et

His goal now is to identify the back log of orders and get them through the bottlenecks, get them assembled, and shipped out to the buyers as soon as possible. Alex and his team determines that one of the underlying causes of their present parts pile up at the bottlenecks is because the operator cannot tell the difference between a bottleneck destined part and an ordinary one. The operator, in an attempt to keep busy, processes batch after batch of non bottleneck parts when what they really need to do is work on bottleneck parts. They attempt a solution for this by placing red and green tags on the parts which are destined for a bottleneck ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Jonah shows that they can use the same method to develop a release system for materials throughout the system. By knowing when the bottleneck parts will reach final assembly, the release of the non bottleneck materials can be timed to coincide along the other routes. Then Jonah indicates that after load balancing is performed to meet market demand without excess production, the next logical step is to reduce the batch sizes to reduce the total capital commitment used during production. Reduction in batch sizes also reduces the total time spent in work in process. Less time spent in production increases the speed of throughput as well as a faster turn around on customer orders. Shorter lead times result in better response to the market demands. (Jackson, Goldratt, Cox, American Media Incorporated, 1995) At this point the factory is operating at a capacity like never before. Though ceramics seem rather mundane, as Deetz s study on the ceramics used in the colonial American show, they reveal quite a bit to the careful eyes: he found out that people used plates symbolically as displays of status rather than utensils, and the ceramic sets after the 18th century reflected the Georgian mindset of individuality and discipline (Deetz 1996). With that in mind, I decided to simply focus on the data needed to verify my rather straightforward hypothesis, that the special pieces have less visual contrast than the standard ones in general. There are two attributes, as evident from the hypothesis, that I would need to know for each artifact: its specialty whether the piece has special or standard decoration and its visual contrast. Given the visual nature of both attributes, I decided that the only data I would need to collect are pictures of my artifacts. Next, I needed to decide how I would analyze the photos in order to extract the two attributes, specialty and contrast, so that I can test my hypothesis. People have taken notice of it, and thus have invested quite heavily into it. Everyone is going online nowadays, more than ever before, but this is not just limited to people. Financial/Educational institutions, and various companies are all online in one form or another; being interconnected to the internet of everything. A prominent aspect of information technology is security, and it has been attracting a lot of attention as of late. IT Security has garnered many companies and individuals to invest so much into it; that it has essentially created an industry of its own. However, can all of this investment in IT Security really be justified? Let it be known that the internet is not secure. It was originally created by the US military for communication purposes, and since then has grown into network upon networks of computers and computer systems, for everyone to use. With the exponential growth that the internet has taken on, it s very hard to make it as secure as one would like. Using these texts from many artists, most notably Walter Benjamin, Webber is able to highlight the differences between Berlin and other important European cities, like Paris, to show how it is influential in comparison during this period. Much of what I learned was not through Webber s writings himself, but the works that he uses in his piece as sources. Sleep Apnea is a growing disorder affecting children and adults without discrimination to age, gender, race or sex. There are three main categories of apnea: central, obstructive, and mixed. Although there are many forms of sleeping disorders Central Sleep Apnea(CSA) is classified to be a less common sleeping disorder characterized by life threating health conditions not limited to death if not diagnosed in a timely fashion and treated to prevent or reduce the symptoms that cause the apnea threshold Pac02 levels to increase or decrease with cessation of airflow during sleep. Only ten to fifteen percent people with sleep disordered breathing are classified as having Central Sleep Apnea. Common sign and symptoms of Central Sleep Apnea include trouble staying awake, shortness of breath, abnormal breathing patterns during sleep, and sudden awakenings coupled with shortness of breath. Central Sleep Apnea occurs when there is a decline in respiratory effort and as a result of inadequate medullary responsiveness or poor muscle coordination for breathing. • 17. Comparison Of The Price And Stephen King s Misery The last two plays that I have seen on Broadway were Arthur Miller s The Price, and Stephen King s Misery. Both plays were extremely interesting and captivating to watch because of their simple set design, small cast, and concentrated, straightforward plot. Similarly, these plays employed non exaggerated direction, and focused on more subtle movements and stage direction to focus on the focal point of the scene. Both plays were mainly dramas, so the direction caused the plays to feel more personal and visceral. In Arthur Miller s The Price, one significant stage picture that stood out was a scene where Gregory Solomon (played by Danny Devito) is eating an egg downstage right center, while Victor Franz (played by Mark Ruffalo) stands in center stage having an argument with Solomon. Solomon was directed to sit further downstage than Franz in order to pull the audiences attention towards his actions. In the scene, Devito devours a hard boiled egg while trying to explain furniture appraisal to Ruffalo; Devito never stopped talking and eating (doing both at the same time). This direction to not break dialogue further intrigued the audience because it pulled the audiences attention towards Devito and the question of when he would finish. • 18. Invertebrate Biodiversity Comparison of invertebrate biodiversity in vegetated and open water areas of an urban lake INTRODUCTION Interrelationships and interdependence between species in biological communities plays a major role in the survival of ecosystems (Hafernik, 1992). Biodiversity refers to the variety of life forms and species biodiversity relates to the varieties of species in a particular habitat (Flinders University, 2015). The greater the biodiversity in a habitat, the more complex are the interactions between species and the higher the productivity of the ecosystem (Long, et al., 2007). This experiment looked at the biodiversity of invertebrates in vegetated and open water areas of a freshwater system and the Simpson s Diversity Indices were used as mathematical indicator of the invertebrate species diversity. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The standard deviation was approximately the same for both habitats, which indicates that the variation in the data was the same. This suggests that the vegetated area is more biologically diverse than the open water area. Simpson s index of diversity is also higher for the vegetated area, 0.82, compared to the open water area, 0.68 (Table 1). A higher value of Simpson s index of diversity also indicates higher diversity in the vegetated habitat. From figure 1 it can be seen that open water area of the north side of Flinders University Lakes was more populated with a high number or organisms present than the vegetated area. However, this larger population is mainly attributed to the large number of copepods (~750) present in the open water area (shown in red in Figure 1). Even though, the relationship between Russia and Syria wasn t the best throughout the years it has become important. Syria has become an important ally to Russia. Russia and Syria s relationship can be best described as a strategic plan. It can be viewed as a strategic plan due to Russia s main concerns or interests toward Syria s weapons, trade, natural resources and the access to the Mediterranean Sea. I really enjoyed learning about Erikson considering I have a 5 month old at home growing away. It was interesting to compare these videos to where my baby was in development. Another interesting thing about this module was the James Marcia Identity Status which consists of 4 parts foreclosure, achievement, diffusion, and moratorium. Diffusion is when you have not really made a commitment to anything yet. This is typically a high school junior/senior or even college freshman/sophomore. They have not yet figured out what they want to do with life yet and honestly, aren t too worried about. In my diffusion score I received a 5 meaning I guess I am in the middle. I m not too sure if I agree with this accusation or not, but maybe that is why I scored this number. Although I had my career path figured out and I was on the path to it up until a few months ago I feel as though I have started testing the waters in other areas now. These areas are still very close to what my original plan was. Now that I have a family I am focused more now than ever to pick the perfect career for not just me, but my family. I feel as though I have always been well organized planned women, but throwing a baby, husband, and other life changing circumstances into the mix has lead me to this spot ... Adventuring into the wilderness has been used as a spiritual clarity and rejuvenation throughout human history. Our relationship with nature as a society has been altered due to new technology and electronic components. To escape from the technologically empowered world, people have turned to nature as a sanctuary to reestablish open mindedness and a magnanimous attitude towards oneself as well as to each other. Ever since I was a young child, Garland Park has been a part of my life. This place allows me to reconnect with my family, and provides peacefulness that helps me escape from the chaos of the modern world to be one with nature. Because of these traits, Garland Park has always been a sanctuary for me. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... My family and I had been hiking in Garland Park my entire life. When we reached our destination, I remember I had felt my lungs inflate with awe with the onrush of scenery; the billowing trees, the serene ponds, and the overall calmness of the environment left me in wonder. I remember running down the trail that parted the trees soaked in autumn colors with only the wind holding me back, feeling complete serenity. • 25. Designing A Computer Network -such There are many things to consider when designing a computer network such as costs of components, software and labor; communication, cohesion, expandability and many others. However, the end goal in such an enterprise is to have a fully functional, harmonious, and cohesive tiered system where duties and actions are divided, and delineated accordingly. One of the major network architectures used to facilitate this process is known as the TCP/IP Protocol Suite. The TCP/IP Protocol Suite was designed by scientists in the effort to support a new type of network known as the ARAPNET that was being installed across the US in the late 60 s to 70 s. (White, 2013, p. 15) The challenge was to create an open system whereby all networks could freely communicate with each other. The design was based on a layered system whereby the user would connect at the topmost (or application) layer, while at the same time being removed or separated from the lower (physical) layer. Although the number of layers is not exactly set, depending on the source this number can range between five and seven layers, with each layer providing services to the layer above it. For the purposes of this discussion however, we will address the five layer model. The five layers of the TCP/IP Protocol Suite are: Application, Transport, Network, Network Access (or Data Link), and Physical. (White, 2013, p. 15) Application This layer supports all of the applications on the network. Some of the most frequent ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 26. Leadership Styles For A Leadership Essay Introduction When I think about the type of leader I would like to be, there is one supervisor that always comes to mind because of the positive environment she cultivated. In researching the different leadership styles for this assignment, I believe that this is the style that she used with her staff. I was interested in learning more about transformational leadership and how I can cultivate this style in the way that I lead my current team as well as the way in which I lead future teams. Transformational leadership is a leadership style that promotes change as well as improves performance in the organization as a whole as well as on the individual employee level (Phaneuf, Boudrias, Rousseau, Brunelle, 2016). James MacGregor Burns first introduced transformational leadership in his book titled Leadership that he authored in 1978. Burns defined transformational leadership as leadership that stems from one s core unchanging values and beliefs. Burns believed that transformational leaders not only bring together their followers, but also positively influence their follower s values and beliefs in a way that brings about positive change (Humphreys Einstein, 2003). Transformational leaders are able to inspire employees to work towards a common goal by changing their expectations, motivation and perception of why they are doing the work. Transformational leaders cultivate a commitment from their employees, which encourages them to put aside self interest to work ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 27. How Did Emile Durkheim Characterize Suicide Introduction The primary source that will be discussed in this paper is Suicide written by Emile Durkheim. Durkheim was a French sociologist who was most famous in the 19th and 20th century for his work on the structure of society. During the time of his writings, he analyzed different social institutions and the roles in which they play in society. As a result, his work was associated with the theoretical framework of structural functionalism. The 19th century was most known for the Industrial Revolution. This is evident in Durkheim s writing in Suicide. Additionally, when these individuals feel as though they do not fit in, they are often lost. In the first year of university, students are experiencing so much more freedom than they are used to. This adds pressure and as a result, not all individuals in these situations know how to cope. In university, there are certain guidelines and expectations. This falls into altruistic suicide. You are told as a student that you have to reach a certain GPA, be involved in clubs and sports and have a job. This is over involvement and as a result students can become easily overwhelmed with the expectations of school. Lastly, Durkheim discusses anomic suicide, which can be applied to the confusion and lack of social direction as new students come into the new community of university. Additionally, students have left their family, which has acted as a community, and have been placed in an institution much how Durkheim was explaining. There is more likely to be moral confusion and with a lack of direction, students have the ability to make bad decisions. The novel explores the state of life after the Russian military occupation of Prague. The author does not follow a chronological order throughout the novel, which is a reflection of how disorderly life is. It is a time of conflict both spiritually and physically. People start to question the meaning of life if there is any meaning at all. Kundera believes that lightness may seem initially freeing and sweet but this sweetness disintegrates gradually and eventually becomes unbearable. On the other hand categorizing one theory as unbearable does not necessarily make the other bearable. • 30. Herman Melville s Bartleby The Scrivener Bartleby the Scrivener delves into the life of a worker at a New York City Law firm. Herman Melville provides a drab and bleak outlook on the conditions of labor and mental state of the workers at the firm. Though the story can be seen as a depiction of the isolation and lack of passion found in big city labor, I believe that Melville provides much more in his writing. Within the details provided in the story, he manages to forge a metaphor for the power of transcendental ideals such as self reliance and choice within a society. He illustrates a culture run not by one s own beliefs, but rather the generalized other and people plagued by authoritarian ideals. By the end of the tale of Bartleby and his influence within the firm Melville strives to change society by informing the reader of the importance of non conformity and belief in one s ideals, but also the danger of following through with that in society. Melville initially creates a setting that adds a sense of desolation and dreariness within the office, as shown with the unobstructed view of a lofty brick wall, black with age and everlasting shade. This provides a general outlook on the law firm as a place of sadness, routine work, and isolation. The idea of being surrounded by wall also further depicts a sense of being physically trapped within their office, and possibly symbolically in their job or capitalist culture. Most of the time, an author will write in hopes to influence others to believe a certain way. Authors must strategize to master the art of persuasion. There are multiple appeals a writer may use in order to get their point across to the audience. The Jungle and Fast Food Nation use ethos, pathos, and logos in efforts to gain support towards their purpose of improving the work conditions and quality of life for immigrants. In order to convince an audience through an ethical appeal, a writer would use ethos. Ethos places an emphasis on the credibility of the source. Pricing strategies involves the use and manipulation of prices to increase market share and reduce potential and existing competition in the textile industry. Non pricing strategies on the other hand refer to all the alternatives, excluding price, that a firm uses to achieve the same objectives. One of the most common pricing strategies used in the textile industry is the use of limit pricing. This involves a firm setting a low enough price to deter new entrants from coming into the textile industry. Successful adverts would mean that the consumers will buy products from the firm that had advertised and this will increase their customer base and possibly profits. Other firms will also advertise heavily and the success will depend on which advert caught the attention of the consumer. Furthermore, advertising may increase the demand for a good and may make the demand for that good inelastic. The inelastic nature of the good will then allow firms to raise price in order to cover the costs of the advertising. However, advertising can be very expensive and deciding on the right methods of advertising may be very difficult. Furthermore, the success of the advert depends on the action of the other firms. If the other firms also decide to increase their advertising expenditure, then the firms may not be able to catch the attention of as many consumers as they intended. This would mean that the advertising was unsuccessful hence not promoting competition. Another non pricing strategy that a firm may adopt is developing their products so that their products are unique compared to rival firms products and customers would rather buy the unique products than the ordinary ones. Malicious people send viruses that can often be sent through emails or even advertisements. Sometimes clicking on links that aren t legit harms a device. Most attackers are able to get through the network security because of the person operating the device. Sometimes clicking on links that aren t legit harms a device. The people using the devices are at fault because they shouldn t feel secure with their malware. King Nebuchadnezzar II was too comfortable with his wall (Shenk, 2013). We start to feel secure when layers are built because we believe it can fully stop the problems, however, it s not made to eliminate the problem for good. • 44. The Curious Incident Of Christopher Boone Christopher Boone articulates The Curious Incident, however, this novel isn t told by an average fifteen year old boy; Christopher has Asperger s syndrome this isn t stated in the novel, but we can acquire this knowledge simply by reading Christopher s words. People with Asperger s tend to have difficulty with social interactions, and Christopher clearly displays this inability when trying to figure out the emotions on the paper that Siobhan draws for him (1), also when he states, I find people confusing (17). Another aspect of Asperger s syndrome is a fascination with letters and numbers, this aspect is clear in the labeling of the chapters with prime numbers, his tactic to calm him self down by doing math in his head and finally by his adamant need to take A level math and eventually physics. Nevertheless, this uniqueness about Christopher creates an unexpected narrative twist on this murder mystery novel. The Curious Incident is written from the perspective of Christopher Boone, and while Christopher s character conducts a very methodical schedule, and dislikes disorder; the novel itself is constantly floured with tangents from the main story, that gives you insight into who Christopher is, for example Chapter 29, when he describes why he dislikes people, this is not necessary to the storyline about Wellington s murder, but more of a descriptor of Christopher. Another interesting narrative is the fact that it is a narrative about a dog; this also gives you insight ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

From Ancient Rome to the Vietnamese War, heavy metals have been used in many different ways, sometimes leading people to death or illness. This research essay will go through the history of the above mentioned metals, how they were used, and how they can affect people. Arsenic Among the first uses of arsenic in in 19th century was in taxidermy and painting (Cooksey 2012). The mercury that was ingested in Japan came in the form of methyl mercury. Methyl mercury can cross the blood brain barrier and cause ataxia, sensory disturbances, and changes in mental state (Cooksey 2012). Lead In the past, lead was used in smelting, and it was known that the vapors can be deadly (Cooksey 2012). In ancient Rome, lead containers were used to hold food and drink and was a constant source of chronic toxicity for many years (Cooksey 2012). Although people were recognizing the effects of lead, it wasn t until after 1950 that legislation banned lead in food and drink cans (Cooksey 2012). Today, lead poisoning is a huge concern in China as the country becomes more industrialized and the production and use of lead increases (Hou et al. 2013). According to Hou et. al, lead can affect many organs and destroy functions of the nervous system (2013). A person can accumulate lead in their body from the environment, and it tends to stay there. This means that younger children are more vulnerable the longer they are exposed to lead. Children s blood brain barriers are also not fully developed yet, making them more susceptible to lead poisoning (Hou et al. 2013). It has been observed that lead can impair growth, memory, intelligence, and behavior in these children (Hou et al. 2013). Hou et al, conducted a study to observe the trend between blood lead levels and cognitive development of children (2013). They found that blood lead levels had an obvious ... The controversy comes down to legality, safety, and privacy, with both sides of the argument having different perspectives on each. Drug testing for schools is a fairly recent development in the educational system, supposedly aimed at fighting an evolving drug problem in the United States. One side of the argument concludes that random drug testing is harmful, infringes on students rights, and is ineffective at solving the drug problem. The first large scale national study on student drug testing found no difference in schools that have drug testing programs and those that do not (Appel). Side A claims that drug testing ... This has been a topic that has only been recently discussed, with many concerns being raised about the application of these programs, or not having them at all. Overall, the main goal of this proposal is to come up with a plan that both satisfies the need for a drug testing program, and alleviates the concerns of those who are wary of drug testing for the reasons of legality and effectiveness. In order to solve the drug problem, there must be compromise in order to further our understanding of the issue at hand, and this proposed solution allows for compromise that all can agree on.
