Trendspotting technics have evolved thanks to social media. Identifying signals, consolidating concrete manifestations of new habits and ultimately proving an insight can be pushed to new limits, thanks to the number of elements that people share online. However, defining precisely what "trend" means can be tricky. This presentation aims to define what it can be and how cool hunting can help analysts in understanding the digital signals.

An advertising industry first, Ogilvy & Mather’s Cross-Cultural Report: Findings provide new model to help brands build value and relevancy for “The New General Market”.
Through the development of Ogilvy & Mather’s Cross-Cultural Report, we identified a major shift in the way we perceive and market to our clients’ customers. In the report we explain this shift and the manner in which we need to respond to it. The stakes are high. It’s no exaggeration to say that this is a change-or-die moment for many players in our industry. We believe that with this blueprint we are poised to prosper rather than perish. And we believe that David Ogilvy, who had great respect for the consumer and a deeply held belief in constant adaptation, would have approved.
After reading the Cross-Cultural Report you should understand the following:
1. The business case as to why brand and marketing leaders should shift their planning and investment approach for “The New General Market.”
2. The cross-cultural disciplined approach versus the current general market and multicultural marketing approach.
3. How the application of the Ogilvy & Mather Cross-Cultural Strategic Territories helps builds brands for The New General Market.
4. How the Ogilvy & Mather Cross-Cultural Matrix helps brands assess their current cross-cultural position and our approach for building brand value.
This is an article and deck about the outlook for public relations and social media in 2018. It’s based on insight from my day job working at Ketchum.
12 months is an arbitrary period to measure change in a sector that is rapidly innovating in some areas such as artificial intelligence and digital media; but woefully slow in others such as diversity and ethics.
If there’s anything that I can do in my role at Ketchum to help your organisation address any of the issues highlighted, please let me know.
Mastering the Art of Messenger Marketing - From Bots to Brand BuildingSuzie Shaw
With three out of the top five global social platforms being messenger apps and up to 85% of social traffic now occurring in ‘dark social’, audiences are shifting more and more of their conversations to private, inhibiting a brand’s ability to join in. Marketers need to master the art of harnessing messenger platforms, but without compromising user experience.

Mobile is the new normal. We all know that. At a recent Social Marketers NYC meetup, we looked at how social and mobile are intersecting, and how marketers are adapting.
We spoke with Jarrod Dicker of Time Inc., Deepesh Banerji of CBSSports.com, and Jeffrey Steir of Ernst & Young. Here are some nuggets of wisdom from our conversation.
If you think of Facebook as a town, think of Twitter as a town square.
People (who may also be on Facebook) congregate to share news, commentary and gossip in real time, as things are happening.
All in bursts of 140 characters or less.

A talk I've given to Integrated Live 2016 in London.
Marketers need to kill "average personas" as it ultimately destroys brand equity and miss the true value of social media: its versatile subcultures which create the most influential clusters and forecast what the whole societies might consume in the next future.

The Revenge of Subcultures: the real value of Social Media for brandsLaurent François
This deck aims to demonstrate that marketers shape a wrong targeting for the social brands, focusing only on demographics and "average" consumers. But analysing average behaviors can only drive to weak and non relevant communication pillars, then a strong dismissal of consumers against brand digital properties.

Media Literacy and Digital Skills for Enhancing Critical Thinking in Networke...Universidad Nebrija
The development of media literacy and digital skills in citizenship is one of the main challenges acknowledged within the context of the European Union’s 2020 Strategy. Boosting these digital skills and media literacy as necessary requirements in the digital society are viewed as essential, and must be included in the educational curriculum. In general programs and educational policies, the key issue for implementing effective measures and specific actions is to foster critical thinking within media literacy education to achieve a true integration of media and digital skills in educational contexts.
In this regard, this essay presents a research project for an effective and active inclusion of media literacy; for critical participation of citizens in the digital society. The main goal of the study presented, although the project has broader scopes, is to first conduct in-depth review of the state of the art in order to compare international models and issues. The study of media literacy and digital competences will help establish the main dimensions for this study.
This project aims to provide evidence-based guidance to those responsible for the education of children and young people on the proper use of the available digital media tools and knowledge, that is, teachers and families. To achieve this objective a first step is taken in the reviewing of national and international studies and programs by collecting different proposals of dimensions in the study of media literacy and digital skills. The result is a design of key dimensions for the present study that will serve to collect data demonstrating the impact that digital media are having in the new consumption habits of children and young people outside of the classroom. These dimensions will be the bases for the design of an assessment instrument.

Digital Commerce Lecture for Advanced Digital & Social Media Strategy at UCLA...Valters Lauzums
E-commerce in 2024 is characterized by a dynamic blend of opportunities and significant challenges. Supply chain disruptions and inventory shortages are critical issues, leading to increased shipping delays and rising costs, which impact timely delivery and squeeze profit margins. Efficient logistics management is essential, yet it is often hampered by these external factors. Payment processing, while needing to ensure security and user convenience, grapples with preventing fraud and integrating diverse payment methods, adding another layer of complexity. Furthermore, fulfillment operations require a streamlined approach to handle volume spikes and maintain accuracy in order picking, packing, and shipping, all while meeting customers' heightened expectations for faster delivery times.
Amid these operational challenges, customer data has emerged as an important strategy. By focusing on personalization and enhancing customer experience from historical behavior, businesses can deliver improved website and brand experienced, better product recommendations, optimal promotions, and content to meet individual preferences. Better data analytics can also help in effectively creating marketing campaigns, improving customer retention, and driving product development and inventory management.
Innovative formats such as social commerce and live shopping are beginning to impact the digital commerce landscape, offering new ways to engage with customers and drive sales, and may provide opportunity for brands that have been priced out or seen a downturn with post-pandemic shopping behavior. Social commerce integrates shopping experiences directly into social media platforms, tapping into the massive user bases of these networks to increase reach and engagement. Live shopping, on the other hand, combines entertainment and real-time interaction, providing a dynamic platform for showcasing products and encouraging immediate purchases. These innovations not only enhance customer engagement but also provide valuable data for businesses to refine their strategies and deliver superior shopping experiences.
The e-commerce sector is evolving rapidly, and businesses that effectively manage operational challenges and implement innovative strategies are best positioned for long-term success.
