Galileo s Letter To The Grand Duchess Christina

Dr. Daniel Unowsky
History 1120/005
15 September 2014
Galileo Galilei, Letter to the Grand Duchess Christina
Galileo was an astronomer, mathematician, and an Italian physicist. In the early 1600s, he was the
greatest European scientist (The Human Record, 41). Galileo Galilei was also a devout Catholic.
Galileo wrote the letter, The Grand Duchess of Tuscany, in 1615. This letter defends his approach to
science and religion in a published letter addressed to the Grand Duchess Christina (The Human
Record, 41). From my reading, Grand Duchess Christina seemed as if she was a person of high
authority so he addressed the letter to her. With all of his knowledge and skills, he developed new
ideas as well as new discoveries. Galileo ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As stated in the book, His public support of Copernicus disturbed Catholic theologians, who were
convinced it undermined correct belief and the authority of the church (The Human Record, 41). So,
therefore these new findings of ideas did not agree with the way the Catholic Church was organized or
the power of which the church held. Copernicus created this theory that was supported by Galileo.
This theory argued about what was at the center of the universe, which was not the earth, but it was
the sun (The Human Record, 41). Finding new discoveries regarding science was the idea Copernicus
had in mind. He wanted people to become more interested in finding things as if they were scientist
like himself. On the other hand, Galileo wanted people to stop including the bible into scientific
findings. One of Galileo s findings as stated in the book, I hold the sun to be situated motionless in the
center of the revolution of the celestial orbs while the Earth rotates on its axis and revolves about the
sun (The Human Record, 42). Galileo made an attempt to explain that his findings do not discredit the
religion or the church. He just believed that religion and science could

Political Philosophy Of Niccolo Machiavelli
Niccolo Machiavelli, a banished political theorist once said, The first method for estimating the
intelligence of a ruler is to look at the men he has around him. Compared to the men around him,
Machiavelli has the most compelling political philosophy. Machiavelli certainly is a leading political
theorist who uses history and straight forwardness to prove his point. The Prince is filled with great
knowledge that has the ability to inspire the reader. Niccolo Machiavelli use of historical analysis,
realist attitude and brazen syntax are the driving forces that make his political philosophy so
compelling.
Machiavelli found it really important to study those that came before him. Machiavelli states, I have
been unable to find among my possessions anything which I hold so dear or esteem so highly as that
knowledge It is this knowledge and carefully analysis of history that makes his argument truly
compelling. Theorists before him like aristotle used observation and imagination in order to develop
their political theory s. But observation does not determine political success it is the careful analysis
and emulation of great leaders . Machiavelli proves this when he says , But as to exercise for the mind,
the prince ought to read history and study the actions of eminent men,...and above all, do as some
eminent men have done in the past,..so that when fortune changes she may find him prepared to resist
her blows. This speaks to the spellbinding nature of Machiavelli s

Catiline s Argument For Land Reform
Friends and fellow Romans of the Senate! We are in dark times and now more than ever, we must
tackle them as a United Senate of Rome. No longer should we be in turmoil over this divide in laws
and land reform. Heed my warnings! If not, all of Rome shall collapse and we will all perish at the
hands of Catiline and his massive army. I don t know about you all, but I fear for your safety. Before
any of this began, Catiline came to us, speaking for the people of Rome and stating his hopes of
bringing positive changes to our great country. Although they may have seemed radical, Catiline s
ideas for land reform were exactly what this country needed. Antonius, Cornelius and I wanted
Catiline s ideas passed in a civil and proper manner. Instead, we must come to these decisions under
harsh and dire circumstances. Keeping this in mind, I feel now more than ever that we should stop
wasting time on this topic and pass Antonius land reform laws, which would appeal to Catiline and his
followers. This is clearly what the people of Rome want if they are burning our streets and killing our

By waiting and arguing for this long, all we have given them is false hope. With Catiline escaped from
prison, they now have a strong leader to stand behind instead of Cicero. Impeaching Cicero was
something that Catiline wanted, and I believe that if we comtinue to appeal to his requests, we can
stop the riots, the conspiracies and the deaths of our senate members. I believe that we should return
Catiline back to the Senate. We should not consider him our public enemy if he has an army of
Romans standing behind him. If anything, he is clearly representing the people. We have continued to
argue what the people truly want, but it is clear to me that Catiline is speaking for the people. Bringing
him here and giving him his rights back seems like the safest solution for all of

The Test Of Emotional Intelligence Test
Reflection Paper
It is always an eye opener to learn something about yourself that you did not know. I found the results
of the quizzes to be very interesting. The first test was a test on how you read people. We would like to
think that we can look at someone and decide not only their mood but also if they are a good person or
not, but is that always the case? The second test was an emotional intelligence test. It evaluates such
things as self awareness, self management, social awareness, and relationship management. Through
taking both of these tests, it gives tools to better yourself.
In the first test, How Well Do You Read Other People?, it gives you a series of faces and you are
supposed to decide what their mood is. I have always ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When looking at the Emotional Intelligence Test, it gives you a series of questions and evaluates you
in
Page 2 different categories based on your answers. The four quadrants are self awareness, self
management, social awareness, and relationship management. My scores for the Emotional
Intelligence Test were as follows;
Self awareness 6
Self Management 5
Social Awareness 7
Relationship Management 4
After reading the descriptions of the quadrants it, it shows both strength and weaknesses I have and
gives me an idea of what I need to work on or adjust to help me become more successful.
The first category is self awareness. It is made up of three competencies; they are emotional self
awareness, accurate self assessment, and self confidence. These sub categories allow you to be
critically self reflective, which helps in improving yourself. In this categories I only got a six out of
ten which leads me to believe that my emotions play a part in my work and personal life, and that I
need to work on recognizing how to read and understand my emotions. It also shows I may be
unrealistic about my personal evaluation of my strengths and weaknesses. And lastly, that I may not
recognize my own positive self worth. I think my strength in this category is my self confidence. As I
may not always allot for it, I do know I have self worth. I am confident in my work abilities and that
shows, it also shows that I am less confident in my personal life. My weakness in

Death Penalty Cost
Human Lives are Not the Only Cost of the Death Penalty The death penalty is the highest possible
sentence a criminal can get, and it is also the most expensive and time consuming. From 1976 to 2011,
1,264 executions took place in the United States; one lethal injection averages $1.26 million. A single
trial can lead a local government into financial instability and pull money from other important
government services. This paper demonstrates the high cost consequences of the death penalty to
states, taxpayers, and personnel working within the justice system. It also analyzes the reason behind
why people in poverty are more likely to receive the death penalty when they commit a capital crime
than the upper class.

nations that still use capital punishment, wealthy defendants are at a distinct advantage to their poor

so inexperienced that they were completely unprepared for the sentencing phase of the trial. In

Thematic content analysis was used in order to be able to draw conclusions from the qualitative data
from the interviews and document review (DeSantis Noel Ugarriza, 2000). Qualitative content
analysis is defined as: a research method for the subjective interpretation of the content of text data
through the systematic classification process of coding and identifying themes or patterns (Hsieh
Shannon, 2005, p.1278). This means that the data input is evaluated to search for patterns that extend
across the data and coded into categories in order to develop data interpretations (Vaismoradi,
Turunen, Bondas, 2013). For this purpose ATLAS.ti was used to analyse the qualitative data findings.
Codes were first prepared in accordance with the theoretical framework (for this framework see
Appendix B) (Braun Clarke, 2006). ATLAS.ti was used for assigning open codes as well as to create
coding memos. Codes and themes were analysed and related to theory formulation (see Appendix C
for the code book that was used in ATLAS.ti) (for a review and practical guide to using qualitative
data analysis see Hwang, 2008). For each code, an output was created. This output consists of a file in
which all the quotations of a certain code to be put one after the other, these are the passages that are
encoded from all the transcripts. This output file then gives a quick

Art In The Tempest
Art In Shakespeare s The Tempest Art in The Tempest is experienced in three different forms as
music, drama, and indeed, rhetoric. Moreover, magic is accepted as a form of art in the play. Various
characters manifest these three different forms for various purposes. However, the greatest one of
them all is Prospero s magic. While this magic is the element that makes the plot going in the first
place, drama intertwined with rhetoric is the actual art form behind Prospero s power.
Throughout the play, Prospero carries out a grand plan on the people who have betrayed him years
ago. This grand plan reminds the reader of a play, as if Prospero is assuming the role of a playwright
and the characters of The Tempest are the characters of his play. The island is his stage, and his cave
with his stuff is the backstage. However, he seems ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He sets his traitor brother up for a big face off, yet in the end he decides the rarer action is in virtue
than on vengeance (5.1.27), and doesn t complete his plans. At this point, it can be thought that the
story of this man who gives up his art is highly relevant with Shakespeare s own life as a playwright,
especially when the fact that The Tempest is the last play he wrote without someone else s
collaboration is taken into account. He holds the power of changing his characters fate in his hands as
a writer, but that doesn t change the fact that he may lose control of his art (be it magic or rhetoric)
from time to time. For instance, during the wedding scene of Miranda and Ferdinand (4.1.140), which
is another remarkable example for Prospero/playwright theory with all the spirit actors, Prospero is
seen to lose his focus and forget about the threat to his life. This incident can be interpreted as a

Michelle Obama s Speech Analysis
Analytical essay of Remarks by the First Lady at Education Event with DC High School Sophomores
This analytical essay will examine Michelle Obama s speech about education, which she held at DC
High School Sophomores. I will comment on the speech, and my analysis will focus especially on the
sender, receiver and the purpose of the speech.
November the 12th 2013 Michelle Obama held a speech at DC High school Sophomores. The topic of
her speech was education, and how the important it is. Not only for the student itself, but also for
America. Ms. Obama says it is important: Because when the year 2020 rolls around, nearly two thirds
of all jobs in this country are going to require some form of training beyond high school. . The way
she tries to appeal to the students, is by telling her own story. She really wanted to go Princeton
University, but she did not have the money, the teachers told her it was impossible and the school did
not have enough guidance counselors for all the students. Furthermore, she did not have money for
college visits, a personal tutor nor prep classes.
However, this did not stop her. She made it her personal goal to get into Princeton. Ms. Obama
explains that she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Especially the hard working students, or those with lower income who might be told that their dreams
are impossible. Students all over the country needs to believe in themselves, and know that nothing is
impossible. Furthermore, there might be an implicit audience; the parents. They need to support their
children, as the education might be very overwhelming, like she describes her time at Princeton.
Lastly, another implicit audience might the politicians. Ms. Obama says that her husband and secretary
Duncan are working on improving the education, and she might be appealing to other politicians to

The Between 1879 And 1980
Throughout the period between 1879 and 1980 the relationships between the powers changed greatly
in their nature, coinciding with a shift in the balance of power. The Entente Cordiale of 1904 can
certainly be seen as a key turning point, along with other factors such as Neville Chamberlain s policy
of appeasement, the Cuban Missile Crisis and the SALT I and II agreements. The signing of the
Entente Cordiale in 1904 epitomised the ever growing division on the European stage in the early
1900s, and certainly contributed to a pre war alliance which precipitated the outbreak of World War
One. At the time, the highly unlikely signing of an Anglo French agreement can be seen by Gavin as a,
construct as an affront towards Germany . However, from the point of German interests, they had no
objections to the treaty and had no reason to suppose that the alliance was directed against any one
power. The period of Britain s largely mythical splendid isolation , formally ending by the 1902 Anglo
Japanese Alliance, Britain began to expand its relations with European countries. The signing of the
Entente Cordiale can certainly suggest that Germany ought to be concerned, and is certainly
significant when determining any alteration in the relationships of the powers and shift in the balance
of power. A way in which the Entente Cordiale was significant was that it was firstly tested in the
1905 Morocco Crisis, only 13 months within the signing of the cordiale, suggests German objection

The Impact Of Modern Day Internet On Our Daily Lives Essay
HExecutive Summary
If we go back to history, two decades ago, people used primitive message boards or emails to talk to
one another and a business would communicate via text ads or pop ups on search engine/directory like
Yahoo. (Bolman, 2015, Para 4) Then in 1997, two Stanford Ph.D. students invented an algorithm
named PageRank. The PageRank calculated the importance of the website based on how often other
sites would link to it. Later, with the introduction of Google, the first wave of technology began. This
invention put the modern day internet in motion. (Bolman, 2015, Para 5) This essay paper is about the
modern day internet and the technological uses in our daily lives. This paper will take a closer look at
how we communicate on the internet and discusses about the major network building blocks and their
functions, including some vulnerabilities associated with the internet software applications.
How we communicate on the internet
In 1969, DOD s ARPA (Advanced Research Project Agency) began an effort to develop redundant and
survivable strategic communication architecture. (APUS, n.d., Week 1 Lesson) This DOD attempt
gave birth to Transmission Control Protocol (TCP)/Internet Protocol (IP). TCP /IP soon found its
widespread uses in the web and many networking applications (because they were very reliable and
effective). TCP/IP made web enabled devices possible. In addition, TCP/IP would connect to the
internet (if desired) for remote

The Transcontinental Railroad and Westward Expansion
The Transcontinental Railroad and Westward Expansion
Thesis: The transcontinental railroad greatly increased Westward expansion in the United States of
America during the latter half of the nineteenth century.
The history of the United States has been influenced by England in many ways.
In the second half of the 1800 s, the railroad, which was invented in England, had a major effect on
Western expansion in the United States.
Railroads were born in England, a country with dense populations, short distances between cities, and
large financial resources. In America there were different circumstances, a sparse population in a huge
country, large stretches between cities, and only the smallest amounts of money. ( Railroad 85) ...

Then came the construction gangs who, working in shifts, graded
(flattened) the land by as much as a hundred miles a stretch. Behind them came the track laying crews,
each consisting of ten thousand men and as many animals.
For each mile of track, the government was loaning the railroad from $16,000, for flat land, to
$48,000, for mountainous land ( Railroad 86). The supplies needed to lay a single mile of track
included forty train cars to carry four hundred tons of rail and timber, ties, bridgings, fuel, and food,
which all had to be assembled in a depot on the Missouri River. But the Union Pacific had the twin
advantages of comparatively flat land and a continuous supply line back to the factories of the East
coast. It was quite different for the Central Pacific, which had to fetch most of its materials, except
timber, by sea, twelve thousand miles around the tip of South America. Another difference between
the two companies was their work forces. The Eastern work gangs were recruited from immigrant
Irish, poor Southern whites, and poor Southern blacks, while the
Western crews came mostly from China. The Union Pacific was said to be sustained by whisky while
the Central Pacific was said to be sustained by tea (Douglas
110).
While the Easterners were racing through the prairie, the Westerners were stripping foothill forests,

Human Overpopulation, Ocean Acidification, And Pollution
People may believe that the most important environmental issues threatening our world would be
human overpopulation, ocean acidification, and pollution. However we are forgetting how important
every environmental issue is to our planet and the humans that populate it. Ozone depletion affects
both the planet and the people. It is a very serious environmental issue that if not solved can cost us
some serious loss. The depletion of our ozone layers and the creation of the ozone hole has occurred
since the 1980 s, and it s only getting worst. The ozone layer is a form of oxygen in the molecular
form of O3. It is an unstable gas with a pungent odour, it is bluish and it is located in two parts of the
atmosphere: the stratosphere and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The ozone layer in the troposphere is formed from reactions between volatile organic compounds
(VOCs) and nitrogen oxides (NOX) . These layers are vital for the formation of weather and
distribution of radiation. Without the ozone our world would be dead and have no life, just a radiated
pile of rock.
The ozone hole is a region of the ozone layer that is thinning. This hole is as big as the USA and is
located over Antarctica. The depletion of the ozone layer in Antarctic takes place there because of the
atmospheric conditions that occurs no other place in the world. Because the temperatures during the
winter is extremely low, polar stratospheric clouds form. Polar Stratospheric are located in the
stratosphere over Antarctica and the Arctic. They also convert forms of chlorine monoxide which are
man made pollutants that get trapped in these clouds. These clouds account for the deterioration of the
ozone around Antarctica and helps in the growth of the ozone hole. The ozone hole is also caused by
gases called chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs) from cars, etc.
Halons (brominated fluorocarbons) also have a major effect of the formation of the hole and they can
destroy up to 10 times as much ozone as CFCs can. These gases are found in spray cans, refrigerators,
air conditioners, fire extinguishers, etc.
The ozone layer is essential to both plant and animal survival on

What Has Changed The Role Of Education In The 1920 s
Between 1870 to 1988, there has been a significant change in education which has affected the type of
education we have today. The main change in education has been the curriculum and the access to
education. Society and education have been developed immensely that has allowed women and
working class children to have access to education.
Since 1870, the education curriculum has seen many changes of development that has had a positive
outcome on education. Three main identified changes are the shift of emphasis from the person to the
child then the teacher s role changes from training to help development and growth. Finally creating a

Having briefly offered some exegetical notes on the original parable I will now offer a retelling of the
parable for a modern military audience. In this retelling I will attempt to capture the vividness, the
realism and the shock of the original. There was once a Marine that was sent into Iraq to fight for his
country. One day on a routine trip through occupied Bagdad, the Marine s convey fell under heavy fire
and their vehicle was destroyed. The Marine was knocked to the ground dying and unconscious while
a firefight broke out. After a while a soldier from the army came by. Thinking that he was dead, the

A Comparison Of White Heat And The Godfather
Almost as soon as the gangster film genre was introduced, countless outside forces began to influence
how its films were made. A large influence was the Production Code Administration, which served as
the official watchdog of the industry by setting rules for production companies and their films
(Friedman 407). Since the PCA often called for gangster protagonists to be killed under violent and
humiliating circumstances so their criminal lifestyle could not be glorified, the archetypal plot of the
gangster film genre easily shaped itself around the gangsters rise and fall (Friedman 416). However,
over time, the circumstances in how this plot line can be depicted has been challenged as the genre has
pushed into new territory. In examining two such films, White Heat and The Godfather, the ability of
the genre s archetypal plot to not only vary but to last and grow throughout history is made abundantly
clear. When White Heat was released in 1949, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The film follows the story of Michael Corleone, as he becomes further and further involved in a life of
crime. While the film does depict Corleone s rise to power, the gangster s downfall is not portrayed in
the same manner as other films of years prior. The Godfather begins with Corleone as an outsider to
the criminal lifestyle, but as it continues, the character takes a turn towards the nefarious, at one point
even stating, Where does it say you can t kill a cop? (The Godfather). Though the character s actions
are initially motivated by the desire to protect his family, the end of the film indicates that Corleone
has placed his life of crime above the sacred element of family he initially set out to protect. In the
final minutes of the film, Corleone shamelessly lies to his wife before a door is symbolically shut to
block her out, demonstrating a new take on the traditional fall, which is not of the gangster, but of the

obtain a search warrant in order to violate one s right to privacy when crossing the boundary of
personal items. By searching an individual backpack, purse or wallet, one s privacy is invaded.
According to the court in People v. Cregan personal items such as cigarette packs (found in pockets),
wallets, or purses may be searched due to these items being inaccessibility of the individual at the time
of an arrest. This ruling allows officers to violate one s privacy by searching these items; even though,
the items are personal to the individual.

Just-in-Time Supply Chain Managment Systems and Chrysler Auto
In the article, Chrysler Averts a Parts Crisis, by Jeffrey Ball, in the Wall Street Journal, readers get a
small glimpse of how major businesses utilize just in time systems and how they may be impacted
during a national crisis such as September 11th. Just in time is getting the right quantity of goods to
the right place exactly at the right time. The goal is to get products at a certain place not too early and
not too late, instead, just in time.(1) Just in time systems is an inventory strategy that is relatively
simple to explain and understand. In order to fully understand just in time systems we must thoroughly
define it and answer a couple key questions. First, how does a just in time system minimize
warehousing costs? Second, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
JIT minimizes quality problems that can result when parts sit around for a long time. JIT stresses the
importance of minimizing waste. A company that uses JIT is from the school of though of feeling like
they have a need for continuous improvement. The JIT viewpoint on improvement is if it s not perfect,
make it better instead of it s good enough. JIT minimizes quality problems by using pull quick setups
and small lots and by using flexible resources and efficient facility layouts. If parts aren t sitting
around wasting space and money then there is less of a chance for the parts to go bad. JIT systems
depend heavily on transportation networks. Everything from trucks, boats, and planes help to deliver
time sensitive parts to factories that use JIT. In the article, Chrysler Averts a Parts Crisis, it exposed
how sensitive a JIT operation can be to a disrupted transportation network. On September 11th and the
days following, airplanes were grounded and trucks were stuck in eighteen hour lines at U.S. border
crossings. Since, in just in time systems, manufacturing parts are delivered to assembly plants a few
times throughout the day in small batches, instead of less frequent deliveries in huge piles that require
warehousing, this effected assembly lines and auto plants very badly. The JIT system works to
minimize warehousing costs as well as quality problems

Muscle Fatigue Lab Report
Muscle fatigue is the process of exhaustion or strength lost, as well as muscular endurance that
corresponds with the building up of lactic acid in the muscles (Medical Dictionary) Throughout the
lab it was discovered that the greater the number of muscles in the body that are used, the more fatigue
builds up, and it becomes difficult to use those muscles. According to table 1.2 and 1.3, there was a
decrease in the number of squeezes of a clothespin that were completed in 30 seconds for each of the
10 trials. As the number of trials were increased it became difficult to press the clothes pin quickly and
efficiently, causing the fingers pace to slow down. The first couple of trials were easily completed
without muscle soreness since the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The importance of the weakness of the metal spring of the clothespin being different for each
clothespin is the lack of accuracy and causing the data to discrepancies in it which doesn t fulfill the
purpose of the experiment. Another limitation of the experiment is width of the finger. The importance
of this weakness is that by not having the same width of the finger then some people with a bigger
finger width might be able to get more number of squeezes compared to a person that has a shorter
width of the finger. Third limitation of the experiment is the finger strength of the individual. The
importance of this weakness is that if an individual has a greater finger strength than someone else
than that person would be able to get a bigger amount of squeezes than someone else that has a lower
finger strength. Fourth limitation, would be the physical and daily activity of the individual. The
importance of the weakness of this is that if an individual does a physical activity on a daily basis
which involves a ton of energy then that individual s muscle would not get that fatigued compared to
an individual that doesn t do a physical

Instagram Is The World s Greatest Picture Sharing Social...
Introduction
Instagram is the world s greatest picture sharing social network. Instagram was created by Kevin
Systrom and Mike Krieger and then sold to Facebook s owner Mark Zuckerburg for $1 billion in cash
and stock. Just in three months Instagram gained one million users. Most apps that are on the top
charts paid tons of money to get there, but the photo sharing app, Instagram, easily sparked its way to
the top without spending a dime (Cutler). Today, Instagram has managed to rack up over 150 million
active monthly users, while also averaging around 40 million pictures that are shared on Instagram
(Patkar). Although Instagram is incredible in its accomplishments and is now worth about 35 billion
dollars, there are some policies that the average user would like to change about the app. When
analyzing the popular app, the sharing of user s photos to third parties, the inactive username policy,
and the usage of device identifiers have played a major role in the lost of many Instagram users in the
past few years.
Background/Issues
Although the issue regarding Instagram selling its users photos to third parties happened two years
ago, this was one of Instagram s biggest issues since its establishment. According to the CNET article
on cnet.com, Declan McCullagh wrote, Instagram said today that it has the perpetual right to sell users
photographs without payment or notification, a dramatic policy shift that quickly sparked a public
outcry. Under the new policy, Facebook

How Did William Tweed Lead To The Tamobilier Scandal
William Tweed was the boss of Tammany Hall. Tammany Hall was a political organization that was
formed in 1789 and was in opposition to the Federalist Party. The business was very popular in its
time for the willingness it had to help the city s poor and immigrant populations. William Tweed,
however, corrupted the company s reputation, and turned it into an image of greed and twisted motive.
As political boss, Mr. Tweed used his formal and informal authority to make profit for himself and the
other accomplices. The group altogether became known as the Tweed ring, and somehow they found a
way to extort an estimated $30 million to $200 million. Tweed used this money to become one of the
city s largest landowners by the end of the 1860 s. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This company was given contracts to build railroads. Congressmen were then offered great shares in
the construction which allowed the congressmen to approve federal payments without paying attention
to the expenses. This meant that the railroad builders made large amount of profit, but had no idea
how they were affecting the railroad. The railroad companies were entirely impoverished by the end of
the whole process. Those involved in the scandals realized through time that much more money could
be gained from construction contracts than from operating the completed road. The vice president at
the time, Schuyler Colfax, who was then Speaker of the house, had even bought shares. When the
scandal became a public matter, James Blaine appointed an investigation committee ran by
Representative Luke Poland in 1872. Mr. Blain said that, A charge of bribery is the gravest that can be
made in a legislative body. It seems to me... that this charge demands prompt, thorough, and impartial
investigation. . Several of those officials involved, however, were implicated but not punished. They
claimed that the payment was a gift and not in any way a bribe. Another angered Justice rephrased a
passage of scripture, saying, Let him that has not betrayed the trust of the people , and is without stain,
cast the first stone. . That quote was directed at the press who were enraged because of the scandal.
The Justice was in a way pointing out that the press has manipulated and twisted the view of the
public on many occasions. In that case, the press is without room to place blame and

How Does Kurt Vonnegut Use Symbols In Harrison Bergeron
Harrison Bergeron by Kurt Vonnegut is a short story about Hazel, George and their son Harrison, and
how the society they live in impacts their live. It explores satire, symbolism and what it truly means to

dystopia. The theme is how true equality is found in rights and social justice, not in removing personal
attributes and qualities like beauty, strength and intelligence.

future and it warns us about the possible outcomes of the future. There are also not many futuristic
elements mentioned in this story, for example George and Hazel are watching television, which is
something that the average person does everyday. The only part that is different about life in this story
and life today is that everyone is equal. This really cautions us about how soon events like this may

it was written in 1961 it surprised us because the technology was eerily close to what we have today. It
also emphasizes the traits of certain characters, for example George Bergeron. And George, while his
intelligence was way above normal, had a little mental handicap radio in his ear. He was required by
law to wear it at all times. It was tuned to a government transmitter (1). Without the setting, we would

Our most basic memory is the meaning of the word itself. When that word is flashed in front of us, our
minds immediately conclude that a memory is a recollection of a past event. But, out of the millions of
long and short term memories in the archives of our brains, what makes us remember specific events
and forget others? To what extent do memories serve as a guideline to the type of personality and
characteristics an individual displays? In the novel The Remains of the Day by Kazuo Ishiguro and the

Essay On Civil War Women
Women in the U.S. Civil War
Up until the U.S. Civil war women were focused on making their homes a private and comfortable
place for their families (History.com Staff). However the coming war would push women into the
public eye with lots of women joining volunteer brigades and working as nurses. This was the first
time in American history Women played such an important part in the war effort (History.com Staff).
On July 4, 1861, the women of Maryland wrote a letter to Lieut. Gen. Scott titled An Appeal for
Peace. In this document the women of Maryland, a border state, wanted to maintain the peace between
the north and the south (Women of Maryland). The women of Maryland saw what was on the horizon
and wanted to do everything they could to stop the coming war. When that did not work they threw
themselves into the war effort to help any way they could.
The women of the north, wanting to be more involved, started to set up ladies aid societies that would
gather supplies and distribute them to the soldiers. Many became nurses wanting to help closer to the
front lines. In June 1861 the Federal Government agreed to create the United States Sanitary

Shirley Jackson s The Lottery
Shirley Jackson s The Lottery
Shirley Jackson s The Lottery is an excellent example of an allegorical short story. In this story, the
reader learns of a town s lottery that takes place once a year, every year. It has been a tradition in this
small rural town for many years and the villagers never question these activities, they just blindly go
along with it. But what the reader doesn t know is just what kind of prize the winner is going to obtain.
Jackson s use of symbolism is shown through the description of the characters, significant objects, and
the actions in the story. These elements are used to represent the death that is associated with the
lottery.
The first allegorical use is seen through the description ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All of the blackness makes the reader think of death and evil. The family which draws the black dot on
the paper is the family marked for death. The slips of paper are held in a black box which signifies the
horrible outcome. Everything that is terrible and evil is shown through the color black. If someone
gets the color black, then they are going to die. It s Hutchinson. It s Bill. (236) Everyone in the village
knows what s to come for the Hutchinson family.
The actions involved with the lottery are symbolic also. At the beginning of the story the reader learns
that the children are gathering stones into a big pile. This represents just how unconscious their actions
are. The village is blind to it s own motives. Tessie was fine with the lottery until it was she who was
the chosen one. Tessie becomes the scapegoat for the village. She is a symbol of disobedience and the
other villagers must stone her to death to stop further outbreaks of rebellion against the lottery. They
are unable to articulate their rebellion because the massive force of ideology stands in their way.
Although the villagers had forgotten the ritual and lost the original black box, they still remembered to
use stones. (238) The tradition is so old that all they care about is stoning the victim without thinking
about how evil the tradition really is.
The Lottery is very allegorical in every sense. After reading this short

This report demonstrates the current financial situation for the Stratton Township Park and makes
recommendations for the annual program budget for the next fiscal year. We first show the current
annual budget program, indicating line item details for each function by account and summarizing the
park budget as a whole. Second, we find the break even points for the golf course green fee and the
pool admission to determine what the park would have to charge in order to cover expenses of the
these operations. Next, we calculate the marginal revenues and expenses to determine the impact of
shutting down certain programs in the park. Lastly, this report prepares the revised budget for the
upcoming fiscal year based on our recommendations.
In Part 1, we have prepared an annual budget program for the Stratton Township Park that consists of
all park operations. This includes golf operations, the pool, concerts, nature tours and visitors,
concession operations, and administrative costs. A program budget focuses on the cost and revenues of
specific programs (Finkler, Purtell, Calabrese, Smith, 2013, pg. 76). This budget approach helps
management evaluate a program s profitability and aids in deciding if an organization can afford this
specific program. Based on total revenues and operating expenses, the park is experiencing a loss in
all program operations. According to the current annual budget, the township will have to provide a

A Brief Note On Transportation And Logistics Management
In the vast industry that is transportation and logistics management, has a lot of influence on the
economy of the United States. One of the reasons for the close connection of the industry and U.S
economy is because of globalization, and in the content of this paper we will examine different
segments of the industry, and how they affect the economy in different ways. Addressing specific
segments of the industry tells us just how important each segment is to the economy, instead of
speaking of the industry in general. Throughout this research paper we will be looking at five specific
transportation and logistics operation within the industry. The airline industry is very important to the
many cities within the United States, creating a number of jobs because of the ability that airports
have to connect cities to the rest of the world. Job created through the air transport systems that help

Emerson s domestic mission is placed in the star or hold quadrant. This means that Emerson should
focus on protecting its business unit s market share and competitive position. Both of these missions
are further explained under the BCG section of this report.
Situational Analysis
In this section, we have performed a few relevant situational analyses to demonstrate Emerson s
current competitive position.
Porter s 5 Forces Analysis
Intensity of Rivalry among Existing Competitors:
Competition is stiff within the industry. Domestically, the major competition is General Electric,
Westinghouse, and Honeywell. Internationally, competition includes Siemens and Hitachi. Emerson s
future success requires beating not only the domestic competitors but also the large global Japanese
and German manufacturers. Emerson must differentiate itself from the competition using its cost
reduction, quality improvement, and superior marketing and distribution channel strategies.
Bargaining Power of Customers:
The stiff competition leads to customers having strong bargaining power. Customers can choose the
product based on cost, quality, availability, and performance specifications. This is evident as
switching costs are low for customers as it is as easy as choosing General Electric products over
Emerson products. Emerson must continuously enhance its position in these dimensions to create and

Leon Trotsky s major influences have been a significant factor in the attribution of his rise to
prominence in Russian history. Born on the 26th of October in Ukraine to a wealthy Jewish family,
Trotsky became a political ideologist and a practical revolutionary. Trotsky s early life experiences
and his exposure to his academia had a vital role in the development of his political ideals. In 1895,
Leon Trotsky moved schools from Odesa to Nikolayev to prepare for university. It was during this
time that Trotsky was first introduced to revolutionary ideas of Karl Marx and came to embrace the

Commodification Of College Sports Essay
Colleges in the United States previously focused solely on education, while emphasizing their
character and minds. They focused on the student as an athlete making that their main focus and
concern. Together, the idea of athletics and academics complemented each other. While the focus
remained on the student, the individual was able to learn valuable skills that would assist them in the
real world. Since then, the focus of college education has changed to concentrating on the idea of
entertainment. A well rounded student athlete is no longer expected since they are sacrificed for the
sake of the audience s enjoyment. Today, athletic programs exist as entities, pretending to act in the
best interest of the institution. Carson and Rinehart argue that the disappearance of the college student
athlete has occurred for numerous reasons. Primarily, colleges began to encompass the idea of
athletics and their benefits directly towards the institution. This means that the focus is now aimed
towards the financial enterprise of athletics directly through ticket sales, broadcasting, merchandising

Moral Decay In The Odyssey
One of the most prominent themes of Hesiod s works of literature is the moral decay of the characters
conveyed within them. Most if not all of the characters within his stories experience a change within
character, moral standing and various religious behaviors to express the evolution of the individual
within the given situation. There are many great examples of this ideology portrayed in the novel The
Argonautika such as the goddess Medea and the heroic hero of the new age, Jason.
There are many instances where Hesiod clearly depicts changes in character throughout time. More

that this moment in the book is where I see the two key ideas Salinger is trying to portray finally link
together. In this part of the book we have Holden in a situation where he is meant to be doing adult
things but instead all he wants to is talk because as much as he wants to take part in these activities he
can t bring himself to do it because he is that catcher in the rye, the guardian of youth. At the same
time he is once again being portrayed by Salinger as a broken record because he wants to talk but the
girl doesn t want to listen. Overall I think that author J.D Salinger uses many different forms of
symbolism such as the hunting hat, the broken record and the description of Holden being the catcher
in the rye to portray key ideas to us the readers. These key ideas are; Holden Caulfield is the guardian
of youth and Holden is a broken record

Security Features Of The Cloud Services
We can protect the data on cloud by decreasing its value to the attacker or intruder. We can achieve this
by seeding false information in other word using disinformation attack. We imagine thatsecure cloud
services can be implemented given six other security features: a. Confusing the intruder/masquerader
with bogus information. b. Confuse the intruder by false information c. Secure the confidential data
form web administrator. d. Block the masquerader. e. Enhanced Authentication with OTP. f. Data
security using AES encryption technique a. Monitoring the undesired behavior of the user: We
imagine that the combination of these security features will provide high level of security for the
Cloud. currently no other system can provide this level of security .We have used these concepts to
notice illegal data access to data stored on a local file system by masqueraders, i.e. attackers who copy
valid users after theft their identification .Our trial results in a local file system setting show that
combining both techniques can produce better results, and our results advise that this approach may
work in a Cloud environment, as the Cloud is proposed to be as clear to the user as a local file system.
In the following we analysis briefly some of the trial results achieved by using this approach to detect
masquerade activity in a local file setting.[11] b. Confuse the intruder by false information We suggest
the use of decoy information technology. We monitor data access in the

Andy Warhol Interpretation
The movie Superstar: The Life and Times of Andy Warhol describes his work as being focused on sex,
drugs, and beautiful people. All these of these aspects are a part of Andy Warhol s personal life and the
popular culture of the 1960s. Deeply rooted in the popular culture of the time were the ideas of
images,
power and politics, all of which are shown through his work.
Representation is, as described in Practices of Looking , is the use of language and images in order to
create a meaning and viewer interpretation. This interpretation is a way for the audience to either
better understand or alter their view of their world and reality. Many of Andy Warhol s artistic pieces

Campbell s Soup Cans exemplifies the same ideas of representation. As Warhol explained, the soup
cans were a part of his previous personal life, they were something that he had for lunch every single
day as a child. The Campbell s cans relate to Magritte because both painting merely represent the
image
that is shown. Just as the pipe is not actually a pipe, the soup cans aren t actually soup cans. Both as
representations of aspects of the current culture. They create meaning, maybe evoke a memory.
One of Andy s pieces, The Nose Job illustrates the idea behind the myth of photographic truth. The
myth is the idea that while a photo is supposed to offer a truth , there are always several truths and
limitations that come with a photograph. This idea explains that the truth of a photo is actually a myth
and not a truth at all. The artistic piece by Andy depicts two images, one with a woman whose nose is
overhung, sort of like a witch nose. The second image is one with the American beauty nose. This was
a
time in history where physical appearance was becoming more emphasized and the beauty of

Negative Ramifications Of The Industrial Revolution
Positive and Negative Ramifications of the Industrial Revolution Long hours, low pay, new
inventions, and business booms all became a commonplace in the Industrial Revolution. The
Industrial Revolution took place between the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. It began in Great
Britain and over time eventually spread throughout the rest of Europe. During this time period a lot of
changes in the economy occurred. These changes affected everything from manufacturing to how an
average person lived their everyday lives. Although the Industrial Revolution had many negative
ramifications, the great successes made it all worthwhile . The Industrial Revolution was a time for
progress and growth but with that came negative consequences. One of ... Show more content on

New and different inventions were a positive ramification that came out of the Revolution. New
inventions were a way of building on society and without almost all of these inventions technology
and production would not be advanced later on in time. Some of the inventions to come out of this
were the Steam Engine, Steam Boat, the telephone, Spinning Jenny, Cotton Gin, and Power Loom. All
of these inventions helped to create industrialization and advancement in technology ( Important
Inventions ). Another significant result of this time era was new laws and regulations. Early in the
Revolution in factories and workplaces there were no laws or regulations that prohibited things like
the bad treatment of employees, under age working children, dangerous machinery, and many more.
The Factory Act for example limited nine sixteen year olds an eight hour a day work shift, thirteen to
eighteen year olds a twelve hour work shift a day, and children who are under the age of thirteen have
to have at least two hours of education paid for by their employers. Other acts that were put in place
are the Health and Moral of Apprentices Act, Peel s Factory Act, and the Mines Act ( The Industrial ) .
Mass production and the assembly line were a great outcome of the Industrial Revolution. Before
mass production most products were handmade

The Lightning Thief Book Vs Movie Analysis
Books are often the inspiration for popular movies. However, people who love to dwell in a book find
themselves frustrated while watching the movie verse. When people read the book, they create their
own little movie in their minds. People use their imagination to make sense of many parts of the book.
When they watch the movie they are often discouraged since it doesn t match their expectations.
Books can easily project ideas to the reader that movies cannot. It is challenging for a movie to follow
a book precisely because it would be too much to sit through and watch. Therefore, many scenes are
cut off. Scenes that is effortless to imagine but tough showing. Connecting this description to the book
and movie of, The Lightning Thief. I prefer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They took the helm of darkness to return to Hades. Meanwhile Percy and his friends fly back to New
York to give back the lightning bolt to the right owner. Comparing Ares contribution to the plot of the
book to the plot of the movie. I prefer the book, because of the dramatic twists it involves. It s so
interesting how a God betrays his own family, for power and desire of war. Comparing it to the movie,
Percy gets confronted by Luke and Luke confesses he is the main villain. The twists and turns in the
book lure me closer than the movie s plot. It makes sense as to why the movie director wouldn t
involve Ares character in the movie. That would involve more running time to explain the concept the
book expressed. Also it would take more effort to find a person fit enough to portrait Ares character.
This is why the book is a better choice; it was able to express such concept in a couple of pages. For a
movie, it would give the production crew a harder time to put these scenes in

Genocide during the Bosnian War
Raphael Lemkin described genocide as acts of barbarism that should be outlawed, even in times of
war . Lemkin is right. Genocide is a cruel vicious act that I do not wish upon my greatest enemies. It is
torture and death. A lot of people think genocide is a thing of the past. After all it is 2014 already. We
are so much more advanced and connected then back during the time of the Holocaust. A genocide
started just 22 years ago and it was during the Bosnian War. The Bosnian Genocide was atrocious
because it classified and dehumanized a religion, it allowed for the extermination of a people based on
religion and the murderers denied they ever committed a crime and tried to cover the deaths up. The

Serbs who stayed friendly with Muslim neighbors or tried to protect them were considered traitors,
and they were dealt with harshly (Ching). The prisoners in the camps were beaten, denied food and
water, housed in horrific conditions, sexually assaulted, tortured, and finally killed (Bosnian
Genocide). There was no food, little water, and a lot of fear (Bosnia 1995). Some detainees there were
killed on a pyre of burning tires, while others were forced to load dead bodies onto trucks, or to dig
their own graves. As many as fifty thousand Muslim girls and women, aged nine to sixty, were raped
by Serbian soldiers and volunteers. This made them unfit, according to Muslim culture, to be either
wives or mothers (Ching). The Serbian soldiers would declare after rape that the women had given
birth to Serbian babies. Due to these incidents, many of the female captives lost all of their strength
and suffered from a number of sexually transmitted infections. The first goal of the Serbs was to wipe
out the educated, the intellectuals, the wealthy, and any other non Serbs who actively opposed their
rule. By June 1994, fewer than 50,000 remained in their home and the area had been determined

Serbia. However Bosnian Muslims had nowhere to go. They crowded into Bosnian cities that were

Disadvantages Of Dehumidifier
Today, we are living an aura where the quality of air is excessively low due to pollution and other
human made causes. Even in homes, the surroundings are also not appreciable. It is hard to change the
atmosphere for outside, but people can make it better in their homes by using a high quality
dehumidifier. It is an appliance that significantly decrease the excess level of moisture or humidity in a
room and make it better. There are different types of dehumidifiers in the market, so you can make the
selection accordingly. A small sized dehumidifier is used to maintain the humidity level of a single
room, while a whole home dehumidifier regulates the amount of humidity in the air of an entire
building.

A noise free dehumidifier is important to have a comfortable sleep even after the proper installation.
There are several models that offer automatic shut off facility when the collection tank is full. This
additional feature helps the dehumidifier to prevent water overflow.
Tips to Keep in Mind While Buying a Dehumidifier:
Presently there are number of companies that offer a high quality and top rated dehumidifiers range.
Every company has its ins and outs. Therefore, it is quite difficult to pick the one that is reliable and
good in performance. To reduce your headache, here are some useful tips to get the best dehumidifier.
Brand: In the market, you will find numerous well known brands. However, it is true that not every
company offers a great value of your money. So, it is suggested to give priority to the performance and
not to the brand. Household dehumidifiers are an example of simple electrical mechanism. There are
no complicated technologies involved. This is the reason why you can buy a low cost as well as a

The Law Of Attraction By Rhonda Byrne
Have you ever wonder why some people seems to be God s favorite because even with the least effort,
they continue to receive blessings after blessings while some seems to be cursed because in spite of
working so hard, all they reap are hardships and troubles?
For years, people are made to believe that there is nothing or little we can do about fate. One of the
greatest misconceptions is that some people are simply born lucky. Some would depend on the
principle of karma and justify their misfortunes by a bad deed they must have done on their past life.
But one revolutionary way of thinking changed all that. The Law of Attraction is a belief that every
good or bad thing that happens to people is a result of one s thinking. Positive thinkers are successful
because they emit good energy that attracts the universe to help him get everything he wants, no
matter how impossible it may be.
This new way of thinking is even made popular by a book that was written by Rhonda Byrne entitled
The Secret. This bestseller book shares the wonderful principle that man is capable of greatness, only
if he develops the right way of thinking. This concept seeks to open the eyes of people to the fact that
there is no limit to what one can achieve. It would also help individuals develop their full potential.
The heart of the Law of Attraction is positive thinking and people who believe in its power vows to
eradicate pessimism and negative behavior. According to the Law of Attraction, our lives

larger Houston plant within the next year, and is hesitant to make any decisions that will reduce short
run operating income and his performance evaluation. While the prospective replacement equipment

All relevant costs located in worksheets #2, and #3 indicate that Shamrock manufacturing will benefit
by replacing the machines at either equipment cost. However, worksheet #1 presents a problem for
Mr. Fitzgerald as it shows a $6500 increase in the first year expenses, which are irrelevant in the long
run, but may encourage Mr. Fitzgerald not to purchase the new equipment because it may reflect badly
on the short run net operating income of his plant during the evaluation period for his promotion.
Worksheet #3 offers a breakeven scenario in the first year and a $24,000 reduction in relevant cash
flows in year two, which is the best option for Mr. Fitzgerald and Shamrock, if available.

Booker T Washington And W. E. B Dubois Summary
1. Describe the intellectual debate between Booker T. Washington and W.E.B. Du Bois about
improving conditions for African Americans, and explain whose opinion you would support and why.
Why not the other argument?
Booker T Washington and W.E.B Dubois are two African American leaders who took a different look
at discrimination and segregation experienced by African Americans. Booker T Washington wanted to
take an approach to being discriminated against African Americans are going to have to learn how to
put up with this. Washington took what he considered to be a more practical approach to these
problems he emphasized discrimination and segregation for the time being. He also said that if African
Americans would like to make more money than they need to do things that people need or want.
Basically, he said African American people need to be or learn skilled trades to earn more money and
improve their lives. Booker T Washington didn t want anybody else he just wanted African American
people to put up with discrimination. He wanted African Americans to cope with this. Booker T
Washington also didn t challenge social segregation. He did not want to be a part of any violence so
that s why he didn t challenge it because he knows that if he would have challenged the racist people
then he probably would have got killed. He wanted black people to prove themselves to racist people.
Black people would need to be able to do certain things that racist people can do but African

  • 2. Galileo s Letter To The Grand Duchess Christina Tyeisha Moton Dr. Daniel Unowsky History 1120/005 15 September 2014 Galileo Galilei, Letter to the Grand Duchess Christina Galileo was an astronomer, mathematician, and an Italian physicist. In the early 1600s, he was the greatest European scientist (The Human Record, 41). Galileo Galilei was also a devout Catholic. Galileo wrote the letter, The Grand Duchess of Tuscany, in 1615. This letter defends his approach to science and religion in a published letter addressed to the Grand Duchess Christina (The Human Record, 41). From my reading, Grand Duchess Christina seemed as if she was a person of high authority so he addressed the letter to her. With all of his knowledge and skills, he developed new ideas as well as new discoveries. Galileo ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As stated in the book, His public support of Copernicus disturbed Catholic theologians, who were convinced it undermined correct belief and the authority of the church (The Human Record, 41). So, therefore these new findings of ideas did not agree with the way the Catholic Church was organized or the power of which the church held. Copernicus created this theory that was supported by Galileo. This theory argued about what was at the center of the universe, which was not the earth, but it was the sun (The Human Record, 41). Finding new discoveries regarding science was the idea Copernicus had in mind. He wanted people to become more interested in finding things as if they were scientist like himself. On the other hand, Galileo wanted people to stop including the bible into scientific findings. One of Galileo s findings as stated in the book, I hold the sun to be situated motionless in the center of the revolution of the celestial orbs while the Earth rotates on its axis and revolves about the sun (The Human Record, 42). Galileo made an attempt to explain that his findings do not discredit the religion or the church. He just believed that religion and science could ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Political Philosophy Of Niccolo Machiavelli Niccolo Machiavelli, a banished political theorist once said, The first method for estimating the intelligence of a ruler is to look at the men he has around him. Compared to the men around him, Machiavelli has the most compelling political philosophy. Machiavelli certainly is a leading political theorist who uses history and straight forwardness to prove his point. The Prince is filled with great knowledge that has the ability to inspire the reader. Niccolo Machiavelli use of historical analysis, realist attitude and brazen syntax are the driving forces that make his political philosophy so compelling. Machiavelli found it really important to study those that came before him. Machiavelli states, I have been unable to find among my possessions anything which I hold so dear or esteem so highly as that knowledge It is this knowledge and carefully analysis of history that makes his argument truly compelling. Theorists before him like aristotle used observation and imagination in order to develop their political theory s. But observation does not determine political success it is the careful analysis and emulation of great leaders . Machiavelli proves this when he says , But as to exercise for the mind, the prince ought to read history and study the actions of eminent men,...and above all, do as some eminent men have done in the past,..so that when fortune changes she may find him prepared to resist her blows. This speaks to the spellbinding nature of Machiavelli s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Catiline s Argument For Land Reform Friends and fellow Romans of the Senate! We are in dark times and now more than ever, we must tackle them as a United Senate of Rome. No longer should we be in turmoil over this divide in laws and land reform. Heed my warnings! If not, all of Rome shall collapse and we will all perish at the hands of Catiline and his massive army. I don t know about you all, but I fear for your safety. Before any of this began, Catiline came to us, speaking for the people of Rome and stating his hopes of bringing positive changes to our great country. Although they may have seemed radical, Catiline s ideas for land reform were exactly what this country needed. Antonius, Cornelius and I wanted Catiline s ideas passed in a civil and proper manner. Instead, we must come to these decisions under harsh and dire circumstances. Keeping this in mind, I feel now more than ever that we should stop wasting time on this topic and pass Antonius land reform laws, which would appeal to Catiline and his followers. This is clearly what the people of Rome want if they are burning our streets and killing our Senate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By waiting and arguing for this long, all we have given them is false hope. With Catiline escaped from prison, they now have a strong leader to stand behind instead of Cicero. Impeaching Cicero was something that Catiline wanted, and I believe that if we comtinue to appeal to his requests, we can stop the riots, the conspiracies and the deaths of our senate members. I believe that we should return Catiline back to the Senate. We should not consider him our public enemy if he has an army of Romans standing behind him. If anything, he is clearly representing the people. We have continued to argue what the people truly want, but it is clear to me that Catiline is speaking for the people. Bringing him here and giving him his rights back seems like the safest solution for all of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Test Of Emotional Intelligence Test Reflection Paper It is always an eye opener to learn something about yourself that you did not know. I found the results of the quizzes to be very interesting. The first test was a test on how you read people. We would like to think that we can look at someone and decide not only their mood but also if they are a good person or not, but is that always the case? The second test was an emotional intelligence test. It evaluates such things as self awareness, self management, social awareness, and relationship management. Through taking both of these tests, it gives tools to better yourself. The first category is self awareness. It is made up of three competencies; they are emotional self awareness, accurate self assessment, and self confidence. These sub categories allow you to be critically self reflective, which helps in improving yourself. In this categories I only got a six out of ten which leads me to believe that my emotions play a part in my work and personal life, and that I need to work on recognizing how to read and understand my emotions. It also shows I may be unrealistic about my personal evaluation of my strengths and weaknesses. And lastly, that I may not recognize my own positive self worth. I think my strength in this category is my self confidence. As I may not always allot for it, I do know I have self worth. I am confident in my work abilities and that shows, it also shows that I am less confident in my personal life. My weakness in

Death Penalty Cost Human Lives are Not the Only Cost of the Death Penalty The death penalty is the highest possible sentence a criminal can get, and it is also the most expensive and time consuming. From 1976 to 2011, 1,264 executions took place in the United States; one lethal injection averages $1.26 million. A single trial can lead a local government into financial instability and pull money from other important government services. This paper demonstrates the high cost consequences of the death penalty to states, taxpayers, and personnel working within the justice system. It also analyzes the reason behind why people in poverty are more likely to receive the death penalty when they commit a capital crime than the upper class. The states that still use ... Thematic content analysis was used in order to be able to draw conclusions from the qualitative data from the interviews and document review (DeSantis Noel Ugarriza, 2000). Qualitative content analysis is defined as: a research method for the subjective interpretation of the content of text data through the systematic classification process of coding and identifying themes or patterns (Hsieh Shannon, 2005, p.1278). This means that the data input is evaluated to search for patterns that extend across the data and coded into categories in order to develop data interpretations (Vaismoradi, Turunen, Bondas, 2013). For this purpose ATLAS.ti was used to analyse the qualitative data findings. Codes were first prepared in accordance with the theoretical framework (for this framework see Appendix B) (Braun Clarke, 2006). ATLAS.ti was used for assigning open codes as well as to create coding memos. Codes and themes were analysed and related to theory formulation (see Appendix C for the code book that was used in ATLAS.ti) (for a review and practical guide to using qualitative data analysis see Hwang, 2008). For each code, an output was created. This output consists of a file in which all the quotations of a certain code to be put one after the other, these are the passages that are encoded from all the transcripts. Moreover, magic is accepted as a form of art in the play. Various characters manifest these three different forms for various purposes. However, the greatest one of them all is Prospero s magic. While this magic is the element that makes the plot going in the first place, drama intertwined with rhetoric is the actual art form behind Prospero s power. Throughout the play, Prospero carries out a grand plan on the people who have betrayed him years ago. This grand plan reminds the reader of a play, as if Prospero is assuming the role of a playwright and the characters of The Tempest are the characters of his play. He holds the power of changing his characters fate in his hands as a writer, but that doesn t change the fact that he may lose control of his art (be it magic or rhetoric) from time to time. For instance, during the wedding scene of Miranda and Ferdinand (4.1.140), which is another remarkable example for Prospero/playwright theory with all the spirit actors, Prospero is seen to lose his focus and forget about the threat to his life. I will comment on the speech, and my analysis will focus especially on the sender, receiver and the purpose of the speech. November the 12th 2013 Michelle Obama held a speech at DC High school Sophomores. The topic of her speech was education, and how the important it is. Not only for the student itself, but also for America. Ms. Obama says it is important: Because when the year 2020 rolls around, nearly two thirds of all jobs in this country are going to require some form of training beyond high school. . The way she tries to appeal to the students, is by telling her own story. She really wanted to go Princeton University, but she did not have the money, the teachers told her it was impossible and the school did not have enough guidance counselors for all the students. • 13. The Between 1879 And 1980 Throughout the period between 1879 and 1980 the relationships between the powers changed greatly in their nature, coinciding with a shift in the balance of power. The Entente Cordiale of 1904 can certainly be seen as a key turning point, along with other factors such as Neville Chamberlain s policy of appeasement, the Cuban Missile Crisis and the SALT I and II agreements. The signing of the Entente Cordiale in 1904 epitomised the ever growing division on the European stage in the early 1900s, and certainly contributed to a pre war alliance which precipitated the outbreak of World War One. At the time, the highly unlikely signing of an Anglo French agreement can be seen by Gavin as a, construct as an affront towards Germany . However, from the point of German interests, they had no objections to the treaty and had no reason to suppose that the alliance was directed against any one power. The period of Britain s largely mythical splendid isolation , formally ending by the 1902 Anglo Japanese Alliance, Britain began to expand its relations with European countries. The signing of the Entente Cordiale can certainly suggest that Germany ought to be concerned, and is certainly significant when determining any alteration in the relationships of the powers and shift in the balance of power. A way in which the Entente Cordiale was significant was that it was firstly tested in the 1905 Morocco Crisis, only 13 months within the signing of the cordiale, suggests German objection ... • 14. The Impact Of Modern Day Internet On Our Daily Lives Essay HExecutive Summary If we go back to history, two decades ago, people used primitive message boards or emails to talk to one another and a business would communicate via text ads or pop ups on search engine/directory like Yahoo. (Bolman, 2015, Para 4) Then in 1997, two Stanford Ph.D. students invented an algorithm named PageRank. The PageRank calculated the importance of the website based on how often other sites would link to it. Later, with the introduction of Google, the first wave of technology began. This invention put the modern day internet in motion. (Bolman, 2015, Para 5) This essay paper is about the modern day internet and the technological uses in our daily lives. This paper will take a closer look at how we communicate on the internet and discusses about the major network building blocks and their functions, including some vulnerabilities associated with the internet software applications. How we communicate on the internet In 1969, DOD s ARPA (Advanced Research Project Agency) began an effort to develop redundant and survivable strategic communication architecture. (APUS, n.d., Week 1 Lesson) This DOD attempt gave birth to Transmission Control Protocol (TCP)/Internet Protocol (IP). TCP /IP soon found its widespread uses in the web and many networking applications (because they were very reliable and effective). TCP/IP made web enabled devices possible. In addition, TCP/IP would connect to the internet (if desired) for remote ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 15. The Transcontinental Railroad and Westward Expansion The Transcontinental Railroad and Westward Expansion Thesis: The transcontinental railroad greatly increased Westward expansion in the United States of America during the latter half of the nineteenth century. The history of the United States has been influenced by England in many ways. In the second half of the 1800 s, the railroad, which was invented in England, had a major effect on Western expansion in the United States. Railroads were born in England, a country with dense populations, short distances between cities, and large financial resources. In America there were different circumstances, a sparse population in a huge country, large stretches between cities, and only the smallest amounts of money. ( Railroad 85) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Then came the construction gangs who, working in shifts, graded (flattened) the land by as much as a hundred miles a stretch. Behind them came the track laying crews, each consisting of ten thousand men and as many animals. For each mile of track, the government was loaning the railroad from $16,000, for flat land, to $48,000, for mountainous land ( Railroad 86). The supplies needed to lay a single mile of track included forty train cars to carry four hundred tons of rail and timber, ties, bridgings, fuel, and food, which all had to be assembled in a depot on the Missouri River. But the Union Pacific had the twin advantages of comparatively flat land and a continuous supply line back to the factories of the East coast. It was quite different for the Central Pacific, which had to fetch most of its materials, except timber, by sea, twelve thousand miles around the tip of South America. Another difference between the two companies was their work forces. The Eastern work gangs were recruited from immigrant Irish, poor Southern whites, and poor Southern blacks, while the Western crews came mostly from China. The Union Pacific was said to be sustained by whisky while the Central Pacific was said to be sustained by tea (Douglas 110). Human Overpopulation, Ocean Acidification, And Pollution People may believe that the most important environmental issues threatening our world would be human overpopulation, ocean acidification, and pollution. However we are forgetting how important every environmental issue is to our planet and the humans that populate it. Ozone depletion affects both the planet and the people. It is a very serious environmental issue that if not solved can cost us some serious loss. The depletion of our ozone layers and the creation of the ozone hole has occurred since the 1980 s, and it s only getting worst. The ozone layer is a form of oxygen in the molecular form of O3. The ozone hole is a region of the ozone layer that is thinning. This hole is as big as the USA and is located over Antarctica. The depletion of the ozone layer in Antarctic takes place there because of the atmospheric conditions that occurs no other place in the world. Because the temperatures during the winter is extremely low, polar stratospheric clouds form. Polar Stratospheric are located in the stratosphere over Antarctica and the Arctic. They also convert forms of chlorine monoxide which are man made pollutants that get trapped in these clouds. These clouds account for the deterioration of the ozone around Antarctica and helps in the growth of the ozone hole. The ozone hole is also caused by gases called chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs) from cars, etc. Halons (brominated fluorocarbons) also have a major effect of the formation of the hole and they can destroy up to 10 times as much ozone as CFCs can. • 19. A Comparison Of White Heat And The Godfather Almost as soon as the gangster film genre was introduced, countless outside forces began to influence how its films were made. A large influence was the Production Code Administration, which served as the official watchdog of the industry by setting rules for production companies and their films (Friedman 407). Since the PCA often called for gangster protagonists to be killed under violent and humiliating circumstances so their criminal lifestyle could not be glorified, the archetypal plot of the gangster film genre easily shaped itself around the gangsters rise and fall (Friedman 416). However, over time, the circumstances in how this plot line can be depicted has been challenged as the genre has pushed into new territory. In examining two such films, White Heat and The Godfather, the ability of the genre s archetypal plot to not only vary but to last and grow throughout history is made abundantly clear. Though the character s actions are initially motivated by the desire to protect his family, the end of the film indicates that Corleone has placed his life of crime above the sacred element of family he initially set out to protect. Music Concert Review Sample Concert Review The music concert this review covers is the Plano Symphony s rendition of the Beethoven s Choral Fantasy in C minor and Symphony No. 9, The Choral, in D minor. The concert was held at a church in April 16, 2016, and it was a sold out performance. Since it was a night simply dedicated to Ludwig van Beethoven, the symphony titled the concert as Best of Beethoven. The first part of the concert played Beethoven s Choral Fantasy, also known as Fantasia, and it lasted less than 30 minutes. It opened with a lady named Anastasia Markina, and she introduced the piece with a slow virtuoso playing of the piano, to which later on the strings, cellos and basses, enter. Then Markina played an ornamented version of the choral theme, to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Though my ears are not exceptionally honed nor trained to point out musical mistakes, I would like to add that mistakes, if any, were not thoroughly noticeable. The musicians blended well and produced the right effect based on the musical context. However, when the vocal soloists sang in the final movement of the Ninth Symphony, their voices were drowned out by the loudness of the orchestra and large chorus. It did not help that the soloists were located lower than chorus, which made the perception of hearing the soloists more difficult. The conductor, Hector Guzman, was effective in leading the music in that whenever the piece called for dynamics, his movements told the musicians how much more or less it was needed. And also, Mr. Guzman did not just interact with the orchestra, but the chorus and vocal soloists as well. He seemed to be respected by his fellow musicians and gave the proper recognition to the soloists of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Catcher In The Rye Symbolism Essay Catcher in the Rye essay Essay question: Analyse how symbolism was used to develop the key ideas in the written text. In the novel Catcher in the Rye , author J.D Salinger uses symbolism to create and portray key idea to us as the readers. The key ideas he portrays are; Holden Caulfield is the guardian of youth and that Holden is a broken record that no one wants to listen to. Throughout the novel, author J.D Salinger often mentions a red hunting hat worn by Holden and the way in which Holden wear is it backwards. Now to me this reminds me of a backstop in baseball, the guy that stands behind the batter and catches what the bowler throws at him. I say this because players in this position often wear their caps backwards. I feel as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The book is him with the pieces glued back together, his record glued together, spinning and making a noise that people want to hear, the noise he wants to make. This idea of Holden being a broken record or someone that no one wants to listen is further portrayed throughout the book. An example of this is in the hotel room when Holden is with a prostitute. Even though she is getting paid she still doesn t want to just sit down and listen to Holden talk, she s not up there to listen to a broken record. I feel that this moment in the book is where I see the two key ideas Salinger is trying to portray finally link together. In this part of the book we have Holden in a situation where he is meant to be doing adult things but instead all he wants to is talk because as much as he wants to take part in these activities he can t bring himself to do it because he is that catcher in the rye, the guardian of youth. At the same time he is once again being portrayed by Salinger as a broken record because he wants to talk but the girl doesn t want to listen. Overall I think that author J.D Salinger uses many different forms of symbolism such as the hunting hat, the broken record and the description of Holden being the catcher in the rye to portray key ideas to us the readers. These key ideas are; Holden Caulfield is the guardian of youth and Holden is a broken record ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Andy Warhol s 32 Campbell s Soup Cans exemplifies the same ideas of representation. As Warhol explained, the soup cans were a part of his previous personal life, they were something that he had for lunch every single day as a child. The Campbell s cans relate to Magritte because both painting merely represent the image that is shown. Just as the pipe is not actually a pipe, the soup cans aren t actually soup cans. Both as representations of aspects of the current culture. They create meaning, maybe evoke a memory. One of Andy s pieces, The Nose Job illustrates the idea behind the myth of photographic truth. The myth is the idea that while a photo is supposed to offer a truth , there are always several truths and limitations that come with a photograph. This idea explains that the truth of a photo is actually a myth and not a truth at all. The artistic piece by Andy depicts two images, one with a woman whose nose is overhung, sort of like a witch nose. The second image is one with the American beauty nose. This was

It s so interesting how a God betrays his own family, for power and desire of war. Comparing it to the movie, Percy gets confronted by Luke and Luke confesses he is the main villain. The twists and turns in the book lure me closer than the movie s plot. It makes sense as to why the movie director wouldn t involve Ares character in the movie. That would involve more running time to explain the concept the book expressed. Also it would take more effort to find a person fit enough to portrait Ares character. This is why the book is a better choice; it was able to express such concept in a couple of pages. For a movie, it would give the production crew a harder time to put these scenes in ...
