Peaceful Resistance Thesis
Peaceful resistance is a very controversial issue in this day in age. Many Americans, if asked,
probably have many varying views and opinions on what peaceful resistance is. For some it could
be marching down the streets with signs, while for others its shouting their rights without causing
any violence. Now to me, peaceful resistance is when one or multiples stand for what they deem
right or wrong without causing any harm to others. To me this serves as a positive because not
only does it allow for people to be heard, but also for others to listen. When a peaceful protesttakes
place often enough it is shown through the internet, social media, television, news, etc. At some
point everyone will hear about it and based on what they see they... Show more content on

Resistance can cause tension and division between people, but peaceful resistance is a pathway for
those to express themselves without violence. In all honesty I think the positives trump the
negatives because in the end they are fighting for what they want and what they should rightfully
have. Isn t that what America has been built off of? The fight for what we want and what we know
is right, while proving that is so. And for those who question What has happened to us? Why is it
necessary, at this moment, in this forum to repeat what should be axiomatic and accepted? (Civil
Disobedience: A Threat o Our Society) clearly have never faced injustice from those around them
or the government. It s necessary because these people have been treated unfairly and should not
let what their ancestors fought for to go to waste. People need to get out of their own heads and
realize that injustice still exists, inequality still exists, the government has too much say in what
happens in our lives and that is something not many see everyday. For example, my town is very
safe and isolated. I ve grown up never having seen violence, social prejudice, or anything unfair,
which for a child is great for protection, but growing up it made me and many around me ignorant
to the world and what really went down around our small bubble. I would watch the news and hear
about gun violence, kidnappings, rallies, and other dangers my mind couldn t fathom. Although I m

The Contributions of St. Augustine and Brigid of Kildare...
The Contributions of St. Augustine and Brigid of Kildare to Christianity
St. Augustine and Bridgid of Kildare were two very influential people in the church during the
fourth and fifth centuries. St. Augustine and Bridgid of Kildare were most famous for the
monasteries that they founded. Both St. Augustine and Bridgid were devout Christians who
contributed greatly to the growth of Christianity. Both of these people encouraged the spread of
Christianity, the belief in a life of solitude, and inspired many to follow in their footsteps. I
admire both St. Augustine and Bridgid of Kildare greatly. They began a new way of religious life
by providing a peaceful place where anyone could come to rest and reflect no matter what their ...

Augustine s father was a local Roman official and pagan, until he converted shortly before dying.
Monica, Augustine s mother, was a devout Christian and tried to raise her son as one also.
Augustine was a natural born leader in school, but at the age of sixteen he was forced to leave
because his father could no longer pay the tuition fees. Augustine turned to alcohol, gambling, and
prostitutes. A year later Augustine was able to return to school and studied law. When his studies
were completed at the age of eighteen he became a teacher. Augustine, despite his mother s wishes
for him to be a Christian, became a Manichaean. Manichaeans believed that one god created good
and another created evil, and that therefore no one was responsible for his or her sins. Monica
fervently prayed for her son s conversion, but he was stubborn and refused to do so. A year later,
while teaching in Milan, Augustine met Plato and Bishop Ambrose.
Soon Manichaeism became increasingly dissatisfying for Augustine. He became fascinated with the
teachings of Plato and was soon convinced that there was a single god. Augustine even began
attending mass to hear Ambrose preach. It seemed as if Augustine was working to reform his life,
but soon his lust took over and he reverted back to his previous ways. Augustine continued to teach,
but his heart and soul felt empty.
One day while sitting outside he heard a group of children chanting. Suddenly inspired by their

Machiavelli s Prince
Humanism is a term that is applied to beliefs, methods and philosophies that place human beings at
the center all life and the universe. Humanists observe that the goal of human life is happiness on
earth. Besides happiness, humanism is also grounded in naturalistic metaphysics (Lamont 13). It
considers all supernatural things and beliefs to be mythical, hence warranting dismissal. It is also
conceived of the idea that humanbeings are products of nature rather than supernatural creation. The
earthly experience is more important than any forms of predestination or determinism. According to
humanist, human beings have choice of action and have the capacity to shape their destiny. The
process of self definition also leads to critical inquiry... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Prince Machiavelli maps a political ideology that values citizen active participation in public
life as opposed to the idea of waiting for divine repudiation and salvation. The essence of virtue is
central to humanist thought and action. Machiavelli like all other humanists saw virtue in those
with power to rule. A virtuous ruling class had the capacity for more efficient and accountable
governance. He goes on to argue that an elite ruling class was not sufficient enough for political
stability. A stable political system needs power. He observed that a political system that had poor
organization led to its subjects bad behavior which in the end resulted in it getting attacked by
outside enemies. Machiavelli s project was to separate the political from the moral and he thought
this did not necessarily benefit the ruler but the general populace. His civic humanism is found in
his assertion that a prince should not resort to mistreating his subjects. When he is feared enough,
the state is strong and every citizen does their civic duty. In the process no one is hurt and the
prince retains his

There Has Been Great Debate On Whether Science Should Be
There has been great debate on whether science should be value free or not. The value free ideal
view of science states that the scientific internal stages should remain free of non epistemic values
and should only be a factor in the external stages of science (Douglas, ). These internal stages are
the selection of different methodologies, choosing which data is useful, and within the
interpretation of data (Douglas, ). Non epistemic values are beliefs, values, and morals, whereas
epistemic values are cognitive values focusing on truths, knowledge, and understanding. Rejecting
the value free ideal of sciencemeans accepting the risk associated with the rejection or acceptance

Hempel (year) also believed that if there is no evidence can determine certainty within a
hypothesis as values are needed to weigh the consequences of possible errors that may occur in the
decision to reject or accept a hypothesis.
Therefore, the potential implications of science are beyond the just the scope of the science field
and extend into the public. Only the resultant technologies of research can be limited but the
existence of knowledge alters the outlook on the world. Douglas states search for truth is a
nontranscendent good but the development of knowledge is important and must be weighed
against moral choices. Specifically, a scientist must consider the unintended consequences of their
actions in regards to negligence and recklessness to determine if the risks offset the benefits.
Recklessness is defined as being fully aware of the risks or imposing the unjustified risks on others,
whereas negligence is defined as being unaware of the risks that could cause harm and prevent the
risk. The Challenger disaster seems to exemplify the issues of scientists, or in this case, engineers,
removing their role responsibilities. The engineers were told to put on their management hat by the
Morton Thiokol management team. However, it seems that there should not be separate hats but
rather there should only be one hat that considers the consequences and implications of their own
actions. The Challenger is not the only example of scientists removing their

Vivaldi Instrumedeley Analysis
The two concerts I have chosen are different in many ways, but the music itself has a lot in
common. For the first concert I chose the progressive rock group Dream Theater. I chose the piece
Instrumedley from their Live at Budokan video released in 2004. This video depicts the band setup
on stage in the typical rock concertformat. The lighting is bright and multicolored. Unlike most rock
concerts, the musicians do not animate themselves to excite the crowd. They rely on the mastery of
their instruments to provide the excitement.
The second concert is a performance of Vivaldi s Concerto Grosso in D minor. It is performed by
the Franz Listz Chamber Orchestra. The setting is that of a small gothic church in Hungary. There
is no audience as the venue is used solely for the acoustics.
The band Dream Theater is an American progressive metal band formed in 1985. The members
met while attending Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. Their music focuses on
three core elements: metal, progressive roots and melody. Dream Theater has been known to make
use of elements of other musical styles to include classical music. The piece I selected,

for his pieces for string orchestra. One of his most famous of these is his set of concertos for

The opening sequence is entrancing as the two violins tend to echo off one another. The acoustics
of the gothic church lend itself perfectly to the style of music. The details in the melody are
clearly heard while there is a rich bass sound thanks to the echo of the church. I found the piece to
be rather relaxing while being impressed by the complexity. It is no surprise that so many modern

Essay on Krik! Krak!
Between the pool and the Gardenias portrays the story of a poor woman that finds an abandoned
baby on the street and decides to keep her. The story is set in Haiti, a poor country consumed by
malnutrition, abandonment, and suffering. Edwidge Danticat uses the main character, a poor,
lower class, black woman from Ville Rose, to make a political commentary on the situation in Haiti.
The story suggests the desire of poor people to escape their harsh reality and become consumed in
a world outside their own.
Danticat makes various social commentaries in Between the Pool and the Gardenias. The story
begins by describing a baby left abandoned in the middle of the street. It seems she has been left
there for at least hours without anyone ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the woman finds the baby, she acknowledges all the signs that the baby is dead but seems
to create a separate reality. She becomes delusional and takes the baby in as if it was hers;
feeding, bathing, and caring for it constantly. She even imagines that the house she is a mid in
belongs to her, the baby, and the pool man. In the end she says We made a pretty picture standing
there. Rose, me, and him. The woman s delusional state is provoked by her inability to maintain
a family. She desperately wanted a family of her own. The author constantly uses words like my
and mine that show possession. The woman s way of coping with tremendous loss and suffering
was creating an alternate world. Danticat adds the woman s escape from reality to portray the
desperate desire of Haitians to prosper from a life of poverty. Becoming delusional was the only
way many people could cope with the horrors of the government. Under the rule of Dictator Jean
Claude Baby Doc Duvalier, Haiti underwent horrific and traumatizing events. Many hatians like
the woman of the story, learned to disconnect herself from the ghastly situations and escape into a
better life. Danticat adds another example of this in the story. She describes My grandmother
Defile who died with a bald head in a prison because God had given her wings. Her grandmother
had been a victim of the 1937 massacre at the border of Dominican Republic.

Nozick Political Philosophy
Question No. 14 Answer:
Concerning political philosophy, Nozick was a right libertarian, which in short means he
acknowledged the thought that people own themselves and has a right to private property. While he
contended that the state is legitimate, he imagined that just an extremely downsized variant that
gives security to people and ensures private property can be legitimized. Nozick s variant of
legitimate government is some of the time called the night watchman state which underscores
what he saw as its crucial capacity: to secure people and their private property. This implies to
appropriately regard contracts and resolve property debate, a judiciary is vital and as for ensuring

At the end of the day, accepting we are discussing rationally working grown ups, no individual can
improve their life by decreasing the liberty of someone else. For the same reason that servitude isn
t right, it is similarly wrong to automatically deny others of their time or money. As indicated by
Hospers, the rights are just to be comprehended as including obligations of abstinence or
restriction. At the end of the day, so thus right to property is simply the obligation that others need
to cease from taking that property for themselves. Rights have a place naturally to us. As per
Hospers, in the event that I have a right to profit by my own labor, then the government isn t right
to take any of those advantages from me without my assent. The main legitimate role of government
is that of the defender of the subject against animosity by different people. Since governments have
the role of defender, government must have enough compel/power to ensure its residents (e.g., by
having a police power and/or military and a related framework for rebuffing or killing the
individuals who practice hostility against others). Hospers additionally clear up that government

I believe that standard business ethics cannot be possible internationally. Culture varies from
society to society. The change in culture varies due to various reasons it depends on economic and

China where government put a check on online information. Google has a big concern over the

An Essay on the Meaning of Sustainable Development
ASSIGNMENT 1.
AN ESSAY ON THE MEANING OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT.
Introduction:
In this essay I will discuss what sustainable development means? I will also discuss weak and strong
approaches to sustainability and how this is related to sustainable development. Finally I will
discuss how Isaac Construction in Christchurch has adopted sustainable development practices. In
order to somewhat understand what sustainable development means, you must first separate the
two words and view them both individually.
Development and sustainability discussion:
Firstly, development can be seen as progress and growth which builds over time at both societal
and individual levels. There are also three senses in which the word ... Show more content on

34). Strong sustainability as mentioned earlier in this essay is an environment centred, balanced
/sustained approach to the demands on Earths resources and for all human activities to be within
the limitations of our natural eco systems, and also to share those natural systems with other
species (Phase2.org). In weak sustainability, Patterson states manufactured capital can substitute for
losses in natural capital (p. 17), and also for that capital to be maintained from generation to
generation so human society is economically sustainable (Patterson, M., 2002, p. 17). From the
strong sustainability point of view this is negative. The perspective of strong sustainability is for
natural capital to be maintained, because you can t produce manufactured capital without natural
capital. Natural capital can perform many economic functions when it is maintained properly. Such
as environmental eco systems that support human life and the co existence of other species.
Through strong sustainability natural capital when maintained over numerous generations, allows
everyone over time to have equal access. This is difficult to do, being able to maintain natural
capital over multiple generations. It is much easier to maintain total capital and manufactured stock.
This is reflected in present day society, with declining natural stocks but increased manufactured

A dream. A world where ideas run wild and imagination is the primary mode of thought. Reality is
a faraway distance. Eventually, the dream comes to an end as reality creeps into sleep and the
fantasy finishes. The story of Jane Austen s Emma is one of a similar account. Emma Woodhouse,
the main character, has an active imagination that causes her to loose sight of reality like getting
lost in dreaming. Her imagination and disposition to think a little too well of herself causes Emma

assistance being wanted [from Harriet], it was in fact given in the formation of every sentence

Mr. Martin could ever live happily together. Upon hearing of Harriet s rejection to Mr. Martin,
Knightley suspects Emma s attempt to produce a match between Harriet and Mr. Elton. He warns

Emma is easily able to dismiss Mr. Knightley s rational suggestions, satisfied with her own more

There are number of issues facing healthcare in the United States that are not exclusive to one

There are a number of potential causes of popliteal and femoral nerve block errors that can be

inadequate communication with team members or one patient having multiple procedures done.

The Role Of Independent Agencies And The White House Staff...
The modern American presidency is defined as the presidency s transition to the center of American
governance. Distinct from typically passive and isolated presidencies during the 18th and 19th
centuries, the modern American presidency of the mid 20th century set the use of power and
popularity as precedence. The transition to the modern presidency can be understood through the
development of the presidency s institutional, international, and perceptual identity. In this essay, I
will argue that the increasing role of independent agencies and the White Housestaff that
spearheaded executive policymaking led to a significant institutional change to the presidency. I
will also argue America s expanding international function in response to globalization placed the
presidency, responsible for foreign policy, in a newly found position to exercise power. Finally, I
will argue that the public perception of the presidency as a living reality (Reedy, p. 10) shifted it
from a peripheral political entity to one at the center of policy discussion and leadership. In this
essay, I will present examples of the modern presidency in the attributes of administrations from
Franklin D. Rooseveltthrough John F. Kennedy, as well as evaluate scholarly models that
contextualize how attributes of these administrations shaped the modern presidency, such as John
Burke s Institutional Presidency, Aaron Wildavsky s Two Presidencies, and George Reedy s
American Monarchy.

Liquidity is a vital part of any security market. Liquidity expense is commonly incorporated with

Harbor. They were perceived as traitors and faced humiliation due to anti Japanese sentiment
causing them to be forced to endure several hardships such as leaving behind their properties to
go an imprisoned state, facing inadequate housing conditions, and encountering destitute
institutions. The Bombing of Pearl Harbor occurred on December 7, 1941 (Why I Love a
Country that Once Betrayed Me). This led president Roosevelt to sign the executive order 9066,
which authorized the army to remove any individual that seemed as a potential threat to the
nation ( Executive Order 9066 ) This order allowed the military to exclude any or all persons
from designated areas, including the California coast. (Fremon 31). Many Japanese opposed to
leave the Pacific Coast on their own free will (Fremon 24) . Japanese Americans would not be
accepted in other areas if they moved either.Idaho s governor stated, Japanese would be welcomed
only if they were in concentration camps under guard (Fremon 35). The camps were located in
Arizona, Arkansas, Wyoming, Idaho, Utah, Colorado, and California where thousands of Japanese
Americans eventually relocated. ( Japanese Americans at Manzanar ) The internment lasted for 3
years and the last camp did not close until 1946. (Lessons Learned: Japanese Internment During

The Corruption And Greed That Infested French High Society...
The Pere Goriot, illustrates the corruption and greed that infested French high society during the
Bourbon Restoration. Honore de Balzac who was a right winged conservative, depicts post
revolutionary Paris as a place of corruption, greed, and dysfunctional families. The class system
was more fragile than ever before and if one was willing to do what it takes, they could have the
opportunity to make it into the Parisian Elite. With Feudalism abolished in France, you no
longer had to be born in the first estate to live the lavish life of the social elite. As a steadfast
conservative and opponent of the Revolution, Balzac depicts this new social mobility as
something that corrupted French Society. The Bourbon Restoration allowed for your wealth to
be the main factor in what part of the social strata you belonged, not what family you were born
into. The abolition of feudalism coupled with the emergence of capitalism in France
furthermore allowed for people to more easily move up the social ladder. The social structure
was a volatile one, people were making and losing money all the time and Balzac illuminates on
how much people struggle to live lavishly. The fragile social structure was not liked by
conservatives who were used to never having to worry about dropping out of the elite or people
joining it. He illustrates the Parisian people as pitiless, selfish, and egocentric. Not only does he
show that the Parisian elite were cold blooded people who only cared about money and

Forensic Entomology Procedures
Summarizing a Forensic Journal article: Forensic Entomology Procedures
The field of Forensic Entomology is essentially a type of scientific study of utilizing insects and
arthropods for a criminal investigation. These small creatures are very useful to forensic
professionals, because they are naturally attracted to decomposing bodies. The bugs might even
lay eggs in the corpse. By examining the insects and their maturing larval stages, modern forensic
experts can assess the postmortem indications, and detect any changes in the dead body, leading to
evidence of the likely cause of death. Forensic entomologists are very often called upon to assist
cops in crime scene investigations. Because of this, police and investigators should be mindful of
the many potential benefits that this field of forensic entomology has to offer them. It can be used as
an accessory to standard methods of forensic crime scene investigation.

as they grow larger and larger, they will strangely shift to becoming become predators and then

Remember the Contributions of the First Sailors
We must always remember with gratitude and admiration the first sailors who steered their vessels
through storms and mists, and increased our knowledge of the land... Ronald Amundsen). Although
not all explorers of the Pacific Northwest were sailors, all of them deserve to be honored because of
the contribution their expeditions made to WA. The first non Indians that came to the Pacific
Northwestwere most likely from China or Japan and drifted ashore by accident. After them, came
European explorers and later, American explorers who traveled for many reasons like to find the
Northwest Passageor because they were sent to learn information about the mysterious land. Some
famous explorers of the Pacific Northwest include Lewis Clark, who were sent by Thomas
Jefferson, Vitus Berling, which proved that Asia America were separate continents, and Robert
Gray who claimed the Oregon territory; explorers like these their expeditions helped shape

having a monument built for them in their favor because they made several contributions to the
development of Washington State, these contributions include making maps charts for the area,
building forts, and bringing back detailed journals from (or of?) their expeditions

Johannes Brahms Essays
Johannes Brahms was a German Composer, Pianist and conductor of the 19th century or the

Johannes was a very self critic man he burned many of his pieces before he could get anyone?s

Johannes Brahms was born on Tuesday 7th may 1833, in the city of Hamburg the birthplace also of
Mendelssohn. Johann Brahms was himself a musician, and played the double bass for a time at the
Karl Schultze Theatre, and later in the Stadttheater orchestra. In 1847 Johannes attended a good

When he was eleven years of age Johannes made his first appearance as a pianist [at a private

About the age of twelve he came entirely under the tuition of Marxsen, who, finding him

Snowpeicer Essay
This paper examines different theories in relation to the video Snowpeicer. It seeks to show the way
the three identified theories manifest from the video and the impacts they create. The three theories
include structural functionalism, conflict theory, and symbolic interactionism. Even though the
theories are distinct, they are expressed in the one same movie analyzed in this study. Structural
Functionalism This theory looks at the society as a complex system with different parts that work
together in solidarity to promote peace and stability. The film Snowpeicer, written by Bong Joon
Ho gives different escapades of torture and punishment orchestrated by Mason. Even though there

diversity, the rages of conflicts later ensue as the power are mistreated by the powerful individuals.

Summary Of Ordinary Men And Lest Innocent Blood Be Shed
Christopher Browning and Philip Hallie are the authors of Ordinary Men and Lest Innocent
Blood Be Shed respectively. Two extremely interesting books about the World War II and the
different behaviors and reactions of the society during that rough time. On his writing, Browning
shows how ordinary men can change their beliefs and their common sense because of the
influence of others. In this book, soldiers of the WWII were influenced by the government of
Hitler. Browning called it atrocity by policy because the damage caused by soldiers wasn t
spontaneous but indeed planned methodically by the government, they had calculations and plans.
In addition, Browning explains how members of the police battalion (a Nazi paramilitary
formation) slowly started enjoying the idea of murder and torture innocent people. As in combat,
the horrors of the initial encounter eventually became routine (Browning 1992, p. 161). Browning
describes the behavior of the policemen as if they didn t have their own sense of knowing what

a big problem for the students and for the RCMP. For the students it means that it will take
longer for them to get the job that they have studied for and will have to wait a while for them to

The Mystery Of Economic Growth
Introduction: Economists have always been asked why and how economic growth exists in a
world filled with so much disparity between the richest and the poorest. First we need to define
economic growth as that which is measured by change in real income per capita(Parker, 2015).
Arguably Adam Smith was one of the first economists to develop a sound theory of the classical
free market in his piece The Wealth of Nations written in 1776. Much has changed since the 1700s
across the world horizons. Things aren t as simplistic as we once thought they were. Some
countries have gained exorbitant amounts of wealth, while others have withered away at the
expense of the more privileged. So lies the question of whether or not we can compensate the...

More specifically, countries that focus on physical and human capital accumulation and improving
their total factor productivity should continue to see sustained growth as long as they continue to
innovate. Innovation and constant change is key in order to keep an economy growing.
Information is one resource in this world that we could define as infinite. An economy with an
infinite amount of supply in theory is an economy that will continue to grow. Ultimately, Helpman
concludes that understanding institutions are the missing key to truly understanding growth
economics. In this case we can take the United States, Argentina, South Africa, and South Korea,
and compare specific variables such as investment in education to more accurately predict future
growth. Further analyses of these countries using Helpman s models are done in the Data section
below.
Essentially, Elhanan Helpman argues that GDP is a far too simplistic tool used for measuring
economic growth. Instead we should use a total factor productivity or TFP for short to measure an
economy s strength. TFP takes into account confounding variables that make each country unique
and would in most cases skew GDP. There are too many determinants in a country that factor into
economic grow, and many more indirect determinants or exogenous factors that can sometimes
skew measurements. Each country in the world is unique in every way imaginable. Helpman
argues that new models

A Rationale of the Outline Scheme of Work for Key Stage 3
A rationale of the outline scheme of work for Key Stage 3
Planning is a key part of teaching. Without a coherent plan lessons may lack structure and direction.
Long and medium term planning are an important part of this and in this rationale I hope to
demonstrate that my planning does indeed have all of these qualities.
The first element to be considered when rationalising this scheme of work is whether or not it
meets the needs of Key Stage 3 pupils. I believe that it does because the attainment focus is all
within Key Stage 3. However, this is only the very simplest level by which we can measure this
criterion. Firstly, we can also measure it by matching the scheme of work to the programme of
study. If we look at this we can see ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So for example, in the topic about the good life pupils will study Buddhist monks and nuns. In
this way I think the scheme of work as greater coherence and pupils will be able to see clear
reasons for study topics.
At this point I think it would be a good idea to return to some of the philosophy behind the
scheme of work. Mainly it is thematic in approach. This is where religions are sub divided into
categories and taught like this. For example, festivals, or Holy Books may be used as themes to
teach across the religions. One strength of the thematic approach is that it points to similarities
between religions and I think that this is where most value in RE comes from. However, these
similarities are often far too superficial and can even be slightly arbitrary . For example, some
schools may teach spring festivals when the similarities between these festivals are not the time
of year at which they are held but something far more consequential. If this approach could move
past this problem it would be far more useful. Of course, we must remember that, once again this
is only how the approach is used rather than the approach itself that causes the problem. I have
tried to avoid this problem in my scheme of work by choosing topics that point to deeper
similarities such as the idea of duty or the good life. Another problem that I have tried to avoid is
confusing pupils with lots of

Freedom of Speech in Cyberspace Essay
Freedom of Speech in Cyberspace
Introduction As the Internet has become more widely recognized and used by people all over the
world, it has brought a new medium in which information can very easily be broadcast to everyone
with access to it. In 1995 there was a projected 26 million Internet users, which has grown to almost
300 million today. One major problem with this is that everyone represents different countries and
provinces which have different outtakes on certain types of freedom of speech as well as different
laws about it. This proposes a new type of law that would need to be written in order to determine
whether or not something is illegal on the Internet. A person in one country can express what they
want to, but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The panel was headed by Vint Cerf, one of the godfathers of TCP/IP, on what could be done
about the situation. What was found was the through the looking at the keywords used in the
search and the monitoring of what ISP s were being used in order to reach the site, that Yahoo!
could effectively block 90 percent of French visitors. In light of this finding, the judge mandated
that Yahoo! would have ninety days to complete the task and that if it was not completed, then a
$13,000 a day fine would be imposed. Is this court order a fair one though? Many would argue
that a company that has no assets in the country of France would not have to follow its ruling.
But since there is a www.yahoo.fr and the US Company Yahoo! has now entered a partnership
with French company Minitel to provide online services such as e mail, it definitely proves that
Yahoo! wants to also operate in France. So what is Yahoo! to do? The easy solution would be to
follow the judge s orders, but what really happened in the end? Yahoo! blocked the offending
material on its French site and put up warnings on its US site that told the visitor that they would
be breaking French law by viewing the webpage. Because the webpage is being served within the
US borders, Yahoo! is protected by the First Amendment of the US Constitution, which bears the
right to freedom of speech.
Another aspect that must be looked into this is

Grade 12 Comparative Essay
A Means of Existence
How do experiences, good or bad, shape the identity of an individual and make them stand apart
from others? In the award winning novel A Complicated Kindness, by Miriam Toews and the
classic best seller Anne of Green Gables, by L.M Montgomery, the struggle and desire to find
personal identity is profound. Through a series of experiences, the main characters in each novel,
one a rebellious Mennonite and the other a red headed orphan, are forced to look within
themselves and realize one of the most commonly asked question, who am I? As both Nomi and
Anne grow internally, not only do they find gratification for themselves, but they also allow others
to be set free in the same way. From the beginning of the book to the ... Show more content on

Through Matthew s death, Anne realizes her full potential and the meaning of her life. Death of life
is a shared experience in both A Complicated Kindnessand Anne of Green Gables. Although death
of life affects many of the characters in the novels, it mainly affects Nomi and Anne, who take
their mourning and use it to grow. Because of this death, both characters make life changing
decisions; Nomi decides to leave her community in East Village and Anne decides to refuse her
scholarship at Queens University and stay home with Marilla, her mother figure. Finally, death
of religion defines Nomi as a person when she is unable to follow her religion, People here just
can t wait to die, it seems. It s the main event. The only reason we re not all snuffed at birth is
because that would reduce our suffering by a lifetime. But I ll have no part of that , (5, Toews).
As a Mennonite, Nomi is expected to follow her religion. One important part of religion to
Mennonites is the thought of afterlife, which as Nomi states, is all people seem to be living for.
However, instead of following the pessimistic outlooks that people have on life, Nomi decides to
rebel against her religion and live her life how she pleases. In Anne of Green Gables, the death of
religion can be seen progressing Anne s identity through her decision to turn her back on the
Catholic faith, Anne hoped that tears would come in solitude...she found it hard to

Self help housing is in simpler terms a group or community of people coming together and pulling

(as mentioned previously) believes in individualism and when housing is approached using that
way of thought a lot can be achieved, more than just building a shelter. In SHH, when a group of
individuals are building a house for themselves they don t build homogenous houses but the house
that are built are built to the individual family s need because the dwellers of that particular house
are fully involved in the building of their house. Therefor the imperfections and deficiencies found
within those houses that are build can be tolerated as the owner or occupier of that particular

The Coming of Intelligent Green Vehicles
A Report from the TechCast Project While many people simply want to get from A to B,
transportation options (and especially automobiles) have to meet a variety of consumer
demands: They must be clean, affordable, safe, and increasingly intelligent. Here is an
overview of the choices and challenges for carmakers and consumers over the next 10 to 15
years. Imagine being able to sit back during your morning commute while your car does the
driving. Would you move closer to the country? Take up the oboe? Finally read War and. Peace?
And just imagine the freedom it would bring to those who are disabled. Take, for instance, the

And China, driven by the need to conserve energy and avoid pollution, plans to have 5 million
vehicles powered only by electric motors (all electrics) on the road by 2020. All electric
vehicles (EVs) have existed almost as long as gas engine vehicles, offering advantages of
refueling with relatively cheap electricity, quieter ride, and simpler mechanisms. They emit no
pollutants, require no fossil fuels, and the electricity to power them can be generated from clean
sources such as wind and solar in years to come. They can be recharged from 110 or 220 volt
outlets at nominal cost and do not require oil changes, tune ups or emissions inspections. The
shift to electric powered cars is expected to cause sales of gasoline and diesel powered cars to
begin to decline about 2020. EVs remain limited by range on a single battery charge and time
required for recharge. However, significant advances in batteries and capacitors and the
emergence of home and public charging and exchange stations are making EVs more practical.
Some plug in hybrids, like the GM Volt, are designed for all electric drive with on board charging.
Improvements in technology will show up directly as models with increased range for all battery
or all ultraca pacitor mode appear in the market. Auto manufacturers are offering broader selections,

Ways to have exposure to abortion is urbanization and educate yourself on population growth.
Exposure equals more acceptance of the idea of getting an abortion.
Barbara Agresti Finlay study used data from a sample of students at a large southern university.
Finlay wanted to see the differences between male and female in correlation to attitudes towards
abortion. Finlay study revealed male s abortion attitudes are simpler in structure than those of
females. The reason for this is because males abortion attitudes are related primarily to their degree
of conventionality in sexual and nonsexual matters. The reason for this in females is because
females abortion attitudes are related to a broader set of attitudinal variables. The attitudinal
variables include sex role conventionality, the value of children in their life plans, the right to life
issue, sexual, and general conventionality. Women have a greater ability to emphasize so they
understand why some women might want to have an abortion. Female opinions on abortion involve
more humanitarian aspects than males.
In the late 1960s and early 1970s, there were several studies of attitudes toward the practice and
legalization. These studies were done by Westoff, Blake, Jones, Mileti, and Barnett. The studies that
were done focused on the description of attitudes toward abortion and how they changed over time.

Limited Power Is A Good Thing
Limited Power is a Good Thing Texans, like many Americans, do not appreciate the government
forcing them to do anything they do not want to, or even, perhaps to an extent, something they do
want to do. For example, Texans, do not want to be told they have to wear a seatbelt wile in a
vehicle, even if they put a seatbelt on every time they get into a vehicle. More importantly, Texans
don t like the government making their children do something they do not want for their children.
However, former Governor, Rick Perry, tried to make law that female Texans 11 year old or older to
be injected with the HPV vaccine(back in 2007), when the government should not have any part
in what Texans are required to have in their bodies. The HPV vaccine is to protect an individual
from the most common types of HPV. HPV is the most common sexual transmitted infection that
effects men and women, and consists of more than 150 related viruses. It is caused by sexual
relations with someone with the virus. Even if both sexual partners have only had sex once, they
both can get the virus. Although, not always visible, when visible warts may appear in the genital
area, as well as on other parts of the body. Some HPV types can lead to cervical cancer. The Texas
Legislator stopped Perry s mandate. In addition, Perry took a political hit, when trying to make the
HPV vaccine law. The biggest controversy of the matter is that he received $5,000 for his
campaign, from Merck (drug company that produces

Relationship Between Teacher And Students
Relationships in the classroom
Building a relationship between the teacher and the student is not always easy, but it is necessary
and important. In the first lecture of this course, the importance of a relationship between the
teacher and the students was discussed [1]. Building a good relationship in the classroom setting is
not only a tool for building a better learning environment, but also a way to make a teacher s work
matter. If the relationship between the teacher and the student is bad, usually the student feels
pushed out and rejected and therefore develops a bad relationship with the subject and with
learning. A large body of research supports the ideathat a good teacher student relationship helps
the students feel better and have higher academic achievements [2] [5]. A good teacher, one that
has a good relationship with his/her students can manage to instill a growth mindset in their
students and help them achieve more also in the future, when the said teacher is not present
anymore.
Building a relationship takes time and effort, as humans do not immediately accept strangers in
their lives and don t usually trust others unless that trust is earned. For a teacher, earning the trust of
a student can be a very complicated process, based on different experiences and different views on
various topics. There are three main factors that set the basis for the classroom relationships: the
way in which we interact, the content of the interactions and the environment

  • 2. Peaceful Resistance Thesis Peaceful resistance is a very controversial issue in this day in age. Many Americans, if asked, probably have many varying views and opinions on what peaceful resistance is. For some it could be marching down the streets with signs, while for others its shouting their rights without causing any violence. Now to me, peaceful resistance is when one or multiples stand for what they deem right or wrong without causing any harm to others. To me this serves as a positive because not only does it allow for people to be heard, but also for others to listen. When a peaceful protesttakes place often enough it is shown through the internet, social media, television, news, etc. At some point everyone will hear about it and based on what they see they... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Resistance can cause tension and division between people, but peaceful resistance is a pathway for those to express themselves without violence. In all honesty I think the positives trump the negatives because in the end they are fighting for what they want and what they should rightfully have. Isn t that what America has been built off of? The fight for what we want and what we know is right, while proving that is so. And for those who question What has happened to us? Why is it necessary, at this moment, in this forum to repeat what should be axiomatic and accepted? (Civil Disobedience: A Threat o Our Society) clearly have never faced injustice from those around them or the government. It s necessary because these people have been treated unfairly and should not let what their ancestors fought for to go to waste. People need to get out of their own heads and realize that injustice still exists, inequality still exists, the government has too much say in what happens in our lives and that is something not many see everyday. For example, my town is very safe and isolated. I ve grown up never having seen violence, social prejudice, or anything unfair, which for a child is great for protection, but growing up it made me and many around me ignorant to the world and what really went down around our small bubble. I would watch the news and hear about gun violence, kidnappings, rallies, and other dangers my mind couldn t fathom. Although I m happy to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Contributions of St. Augustine and Brigid of Kildare... The Contributions of St. Augustine and Brigid of Kildare to Christianity St. Augustine and Bridgid of Kildare were two very influential people in the church during the fourth and fifth centuries. St. Augustine and Bridgid of Kildare were most famous for the monasteries that they founded. Both St. Augustine and Bridgid were devout Christians who contributed greatly to the growth of Christianity. Both of these people encouraged the spread of Christianity, the belief in a life of solitude, and inspired many to follow in their footsteps. I admire both St. Augustine and Bridgid of Kildare greatly. They began a new way of religious life by providing a peaceful place where anyone could come to rest and reflect no matter what their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Augustine s father was a local Roman official and pagan, until he converted shortly before dying. Monica, Augustine s mother, was a devout Christian and tried to raise her son as one also. Augustine was a natural born leader in school, but at the age of sixteen he was forced to leave because his father could no longer pay the tuition fees. Augustine turned to alcohol, gambling, and prostitutes. A year later Augustine was able to return to school and studied law. When his studies were completed at the age of eighteen he became a teacher. Augustine, despite his mother s wishes for him to be a Christian, became a Manichaean. Manichaeans believed that one god created good and another created evil, and that therefore no one was responsible for his or her sins. Monica fervently prayed for her son s conversion, but he was stubborn and refused to do so. A year later, while teaching in Milan, Augustine met Plato and Bishop Ambrose. Soon Manichaeism became increasingly dissatisfying for Augustine. He became fascinated with the teachings of Plato and was soon convinced that there was a single god. Augustine even began attending mass to hear Ambrose preach. It seemed as if Augustine was working to reform his life, but soon his lust took over and he reverted back to his previous ways. Augustine continued to teach, but his heart and soul felt empty. One day while sitting outside he heard a group of children chanting. Suddenly inspired by their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Machiavelli s Prince Humanism is a term that is applied to beliefs, methods and philosophies that place human beings at the center all life and the universe. Humanists observe that the goal of human life is happiness on earth. Besides happiness, humanism is also grounded in naturalistic metaphysics (Lamont 13). It considers all supernatural things and beliefs to be mythical, hence warranting dismissal. It is also conceived of the idea that humanbeings are products of nature rather than supernatural creation. The earthly experience is more important than any forms of predestination or determinism. According to humanist, human beings have choice of action and have the capacity to shape their destiny. The process of self definition also leads to critical inquiry... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Prince Machiavelli maps a political ideology that values citizen active participation in public life as opposed to the idea of waiting for divine repudiation and salvation. The essence of virtue is central to humanist thought and action. Machiavelli like all other humanists saw virtue in those with power to rule. A virtuous ruling class had the capacity for more efficient and accountable governance. He goes on to argue that an elite ruling class was not sufficient enough for political stability. A stable political system needs power. He observed that a political system that had poor organization led to its subjects bad behavior which in the end resulted in it getting attacked by outside enemies. Machiavelli s project was to separate the political from the moral and he thought this did not necessarily benefit the ruler but the general populace. His civic humanism is found in his assertion that a prince should not resort to mistreating his subjects. When he is feared enough, the state is strong and every citizen does their civic duty. In the process no one is hurt and the prince retains his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. There Has Been Great Debate On Whether Science Should Be There has been great debate on whether science should be value free or not. The value free ideal view of science states that the scientific internal stages should remain free of non epistemic values and should only be a factor in the external stages of science (Douglas, ). These internal stages are the selection of different methodologies, choosing which data is useful, and within the interpretation of data (Douglas, ). Non epistemic values are beliefs, values, and morals, whereas epistemic values are cognitive values focusing on truths, knowledge, and understanding. Rejecting the value free ideal of sciencemeans accepting the risk associated with the rejection or acceptance of a hypothesis because of the non epistemic values within the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hempel (year) also believed that if there is no evidence can determine certainty within a hypothesis as values are needed to weigh the consequences of possible errors that may occur in the decision to reject or accept a hypothesis. Therefore, the potential implications of science are beyond the just the scope of the science field and extend into the public. Only the resultant technologies of research can be limited but the existence of knowledge alters the outlook on the world. Douglas states search for truth is a nontranscendent good but the development of knowledge is important and must be weighed against moral choices. Specifically, a scientist must consider the unintended consequences of their actions in regards to negligence and recklessness to determine if the risks offset the benefits. Recklessness is defined as being fully aware of the risks or imposing the unjustified risks on others, whereas negligence is defined as being unaware of the risks that could cause harm and prevent the risk. The Challenger disaster seems to exemplify the issues of scientists, or in this case, engineers, removing their role responsibilities. The engineers were told to put on their management hat by the Morton Thiokol management team. However, it seems that there should not be separate hats but rather there should only be one hat that considers the consequences and implications of their own actions. The Challenger is not the only example of scientists removing their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Vivaldi Instrumedeley Analysis The two concerts I have chosen are different in many ways, but the music itself has a lot in common. For the first concert I chose the progressive rock group Dream Theater. I chose the piece Instrumedley from their Live at Budokan video released in 2004. This video depicts the band setup on stage in the typical rock concertformat. The lighting is bright and multicolored. Unlike most rock concerts, the musicians do not animate themselves to excite the crowd. They rely on the mastery of their instruments to provide the excitement. The second concert is a performance of Vivaldi s Concerto Grosso in D minor. It is performed by the Franz Listz Chamber Orchestra. The setting is that of a small gothic church in Hungary. There is no audience as the venue is used solely for the acoustics. The band Dream Theater is an American progressive metal band formed in 1985. The members met while attending Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. Their music focuses on three core elements: metal, progressive roots and melody. Dream Theater has been known to make use of elements of other musical styles to include classical music. The piece I selected, Instrumedely , is a mash up of instrumental sections from ... One of his most famous of these is his set of concertos for solo violin and orchestra named Four Seasons. The Vivaldi concerto was pure joy to listen to. The opening sequence is entrancing as the two violins tend to echo off one another. The acoustics of the gothic church lend itself perfectly to the style of music. The details in the melody are clearly heard while there is a rich bass sound thanks to the echo of the church. I found the piece to be rather relaxing while being impressed by the complexity. • 7. Essay on Krik! Krak! Between the pool and the Gardenias portrays the story of a poor woman that finds an abandoned baby on the street and decides to keep her. The story is set in Haiti, a poor country consumed by malnutrition, abandonment, and suffering. Edwidge Danticat uses the main character, a poor, lower class, black woman from Ville Rose, to make a political commentary on the situation in Haiti. The story suggests the desire of poor people to escape their harsh reality and become consumed in a world outside their own. When the woman finds the baby, she acknowledges all the signs that the baby is dead but seems to create a separate reality. She becomes delusional and takes the baby in as if it was hers; feeding, bathing, and caring for it constantly. She even imagines that the house she is a mid in belongs to her, the baby, and the pool man. In the end she says We made a pretty picture standing there. Rose, me, and him. The woman s delusional state is provoked by her inability to maintain a family. She desperately wanted a family of her own. The author constantly uses words like my and mine that show possession. The woman s way of coping with tremendous loss and suffering was creating an alternate world. Danticat adds the woman s escape from reality to portray the desperate desire of Haitians to prosper from a life of poverty. Becoming delusional was the only way many people could cope with the horrors of the government. Under the rule of Dictator Jean Claude Baby Doc Duvalier, Haiti underwent horrific and traumatizing events. Many hatians like the woman of the story, learned to disconnect herself from the ghastly situations and escape into a better life. Danticat adds another example of this in the story. She describes My grandmother Defile who died with a bald head in a prison because God had given her wings. Her grandmother had been a victim of the 1937 massacre at the border of Dominican Republic. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Nozick Political Philosophy Question No. 14 Answer: Concerning political philosophy, Nozick was a right libertarian, which in short means he acknowledged the thought that people own themselves and has a right to private property. While he contended that the state is legitimate, he imagined that just an extremely downsized variant that gives security to people and ensures private property can be legitimized. Nozick s variant of legitimate government is some of the time called the night watchman state which underscores what he saw as its crucial capacity: to secure people and their private property. Finally I will discuss how Isaac Construction in Christchurch has adopted sustainable development practices. Strong sustainability as mentioned earlier in this essay is an environment centred, balanced /sustained approach to the demands on Earths resources and for all human activities to be within the limitations of our natural eco systems, and also to share those natural systems with other species (Phase2.org). In weak sustainability, Patterson states manufactured capital can substitute for losses in natural capital (p. 17), and also for that capital to be maintained from generation to generation so human society is economically sustainable (Patterson, M., 2002, p. 17). From the strong sustainability point of view this is negative. The perspective of strong sustainability is for natural capital to be maintained, because you can t produce manufactured capital without natural capital. Natural capital can perform many economic functions when it is maintained properly. Such as environmental eco systems that support human life and the co existence of other species. Through strong sustainability natural capital when maintained over numerous generations, allows everyone over time to have equal access. This is difficult to do, being able to maintain natural capital over multiple generations. It is much easier to maintain total capital and manufactured stock. This is reflected in present day society, with declining natural stocks but increased manufactured ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Caught up in her self appointed role as cupid, Emma ignores the possibility that Harriet and Mr. Martin could ever live happily together. Upon hearing of Harriet s rejection to Mr. Martin, Knightley suspects Emma s attempt to produce a match between Harriet and Mr. Elton. He warns Emma about the unlikelihood of Mr. Elton reducing himself to Harriet s inferior position through marriage. While his warning causes Emma to momentarily doubt herself, she quickly erases these thoughts with a satisfaction which settled her with her own mind, and convinced her... she had done nothing which woman s friendship and woman s feelings would not justify (43). Evidently, Emma is easily able to dismiss Mr. Knightley s rational suggestions, satisfied with her own more amusing ideas. She remains confident in her own imaginative schemes, letting that govern her conduct. • 16. The Role Of Independent Agencies And The White House Staff... The modern American presidency is defined as the presidency s transition to the center of American governance. Distinct from typically passive and isolated presidencies during the 18th and 19th centuries, the modern American presidency of the mid 20th century set the use of power and popularity as precedence. The transition to the modern presidency can be understood through the development of the presidency s institutional, international, and perceptual identity. In this essay, I will argue that the increasing role of independent agencies and the White Housestaff that spearheaded executive policymaking led to a significant institutional change to the presidency. I will also argue America s expanding international function in response to globalization placed the presidency, responsible for foreign policy, in a newly found position to exercise power. Finally, I will argue that the public perception of the presidency as a living reality (Reedy, p. 10) shifted it from a peripheral political entity to one at the center of policy discussion and leadership. In this essay, I will present examples of the modern presidency in the attributes of administrations from Franklin D. Rooseveltthrough John F. Kennedy, as well as evaluate scholarly models that contextualize how attributes of these administrations shaped the modern presidency, such as John Burke s Institutional Presidency, Aaron Wildavsky s Two Presidencies, and George Reedy s American Monarchy. Honore de Balzac who was a right winged conservative, depicts post revolutionary Paris as a place of corruption, greed, and dysfunctional families. The class system was more fragile than ever before and if one was willing to do what it takes, they could have the opportunity to make it into the Parisian Elite. As a steadfast conservative and opponent of the Revolution, Balzac depicts this new social mobility as something that corrupted French Society. • 33. The Mystery Of Economic Growth Introduction: Economists have always been asked why and how economic growth exists in a world filled with so much disparity between the richest and the poorest. First we need to define economic growth as that which is measured by change in real income per capita(Parker, 2015). Arguably Adam Smith was one of the first economists to develop a sound theory of the classical free market in his piece The Wealth of Nations written in 1776. Much has changed since the 1700s across the world horizons. Things aren t as simplistic as we once thought they were. Some countries have gained exorbitant amounts of wealth, while others have withered away at the expense of the more privileged. So lies the question of whether or not we can compensate the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... More specifically, countries that focus on physical and human capital accumulation and improving their total factor productivity should continue to see sustained growth as long as they continue to innovate. Innovation and constant change is key in order to keep an economy growing. Information is one resource in this world that we could define as infinite. An economy with an infinite amount of supply in theory is an economy that will continue to grow. Ultimately, Helpman concludes that understanding institutions are the missing key to truly understanding growth economics. In this case we can take the United States, Argentina, South Africa, and South Korea, and compare specific variables such as investment in education to more accurately predict future growth. Further analyses of these countries using Helpman s models are done in the Data section below. Essentially, Elhanan Helpman argues that GDP is a far too simplistic tool used for measuring economic growth. Instead we should use a total factor productivity or TFP for short to measure an economy s strength. TFP takes into account confounding variables that make each country unique and would in most cases skew GDP. There are too many determinants in a country that factor into economic grow, and many more indirect determinants or exogenous factors that can sometimes skew measurements. Each country in the world is unique in every way imaginable. Helpman argues that new models ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 36. A Rationale of the Outline Scheme of Work for Key Stage 3 A rationale of the outline scheme of work for Key Stage 3 Planning is a key part of teaching. Without a coherent plan lessons may lack structure and direction. Long and medium term planning are an important part of this and in this rationale I hope to demonstrate that my planning does indeed have all of these qualities. The first element to be considered when rationalising this scheme of work is whether or not it meets the needs of Key Stage 3 pupils. I believe that it does because the attainment focus is all within Key Stage 3. However, this is only the very simplest level by which we can measure this criterion. Firstly, we can also measure it by matching the scheme of work to the programme of study. If we look at this we can see ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So for example, in the topic about the good life pupils will study Buddhist monks and nuns. In this way I think the scheme of work as greater coherence and pupils will be able to see clear reasons for study topics. At this point I think it would be a good idea to return to some of the philosophy behind the scheme of work. Mainly it is thematic in approach. This is where religions are sub divided into categories and taught like this. For example, festivals, or Holy Books may be used as themes to teach across the religions. One strength of the thematic approach is that it points to similarities between religions and I think that this is where most value in RE comes from. However, these similarities are often far too superficial and can even be slightly arbitrary . For example, some schools may teach spring festivals when the similarities between these festivals are not the time of year at which they are held but something far more consequential. If this approach could move past this problem it would be far more useful. Of course, we must remember that, once again this is only how the approach is used rather than the approach itself that causes the problem. I have tried to avoid this problem in my scheme of work by choosing topics that point to deeper similarities such as the idea of duty or the good life. Another problem that I have tried to avoid is confusing pupils with lots of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the first lecture of this course, the importance of a relationship between the teacher and the students was discussed [1]. Building a good relationship in the classroom setting is not only a tool for building a better learning environment, but also a way to make a teacher s work matter. If the relationship between the teacher and the student is bad, usually the student feels pushed out and rejected and therefore develops a bad relationship with the subject and with learning.
