Mpaa s Rating System In This Film Is Not Yet Rated
The 2006 film, This Film is Not Yet Rated , argues that the Motion Picture Association of America
s (MPAA s) rating system for films is a form of censorship with underlying purposes. The rating
system s purposes as the film presents include profit, box office numbers, image, control and
company interest. The filmpresents its thesis with facts, independent investigation and
commentary by people within the film industry and those that the MPAA s film rating system
directly affects. The film makes a persuasive argument that the MPAA s rating system is a form
of censorship. The enemies of movies and ratings include Jack Valenti, Joan Graves and the
MPAA. Valenti is the overseer of the MPAA and Graves is the head of the MPAA review board. The

This affirmation is not too unbelievable because Valenti comes from Washington according to
the film. It is not absurd for Valenti and the MPAA to have acquaintances that have specific
interest that Valenti and the MPAA try to fulfill. In doing so Valenti and the MPAA may receive
legislation in their favor or funding from his acquaintances. Dick reveals another facet of his
argument to the viewers when he examines who is on the board of appeals of movie ratings at
the MPAA. This board decides if a movie rating should be appealed on a case by case basis. The
appeals board is made of many people. These people are not your common, plain and everyday
type of people that the MPAA wants you to believe they are according to the movie. The movie
explains the people on the appeals board include people that represent big companies in the media
world. Some of the companies the movies mention being represented include Regal Entertainment
Group, Sony Pictures, Fox Searchlight Pictures and others. Allowing big companies to control
what films make it to the screen can cripple certain movies that the group does not see fit to be on
display to the public. These groups can also eliminate movies that pose a threat to their specific
film s profit and box office

Roman Catholic Church Power
According to Strayer and Nelson, The roman catholic church had more power than many empires
during the 15th century. This power was generated from the morality it introduced to its people
bringing many together. This brought many people together for a similar belief making the church
even more powerful socially and politically. As stated by Strayer and Nelson, the empires often
selected church officials for the catholic church. This gave the kings a perception of power that
would keep them at peace with the power that the church actually had. It also kept the empires from
fighting for the power keeping the number of followers strong. Which kept the social and political
cohesion between the empires strong. The roman catholic churchgenerated social and political

Which is mentioned by Strayer and Nelson, the followers of the religion are supposed to follow
strict rules of morality. Showing that despite what your feelings towards a rule are you must follow
them to stay out of trouble. This illustrates and immense amount of power due to the fact that the
churches rules are more important than the rules of the government. Making it certain that the
church must have more power over the governments of the empires because their laws come first.
According to Strayer and Nelson, the church also said that all people should be treated equally.
Although the people must follow this law stated by the church it is evident based on the
hierarchical system that this is not the case. The officials in the hierarchical system at the higher
end are making all these decisions showing that they did not have equality in the decision making
despite this rule. Overall, the churches moral beliefs illustrate that despite the moral beliefs they
instill the church still has power over everybody

Juan De La Cierva s VTOL Aircraft (Gyroplane)
All good comes from above, as it was said in 1:17 of the Book of James. In this era in the history
of Man, recent innovations in avionic technology has allowed men to fly to distant lands, at
rates far greater than what was once feasible centuries ago. Granted, it is true that attempts were
made during the early 20th century on the creation of VTOL (Vertical Take Off and Landing)
aircraft by Juan de La Cierva of Spain, with a successful recorded flight in 1923. De La Cierva s
VTOL aircraft was known as Gyroplane. (Scientists and Friends) However, it was not until the
Second World War, did VTOL aircraft finally appear into its modern day incarnation. The Third

There was nothing left but to try the exorcist. (Catholic News Agency) The preceding article in
question goes off on a digression, subsequently discussing about a similar effort, but across the
entire country of Mexico, with the center of mass being the Cathedral within the Roman Catholic
Archdiocese of Guadalajara, presided over by His Eminence, Cardinal Juan Sandoval ГЌГ±iguez.
But still, the overall point of the article is this: Every bishop is the chief exorcist of his own
diocese. Anytime anyone with the authority uses his power against Satan, (sic) that is powerful.
Every priest and bishop has that power. To be fair, an exorcism from the skies above is a much
more important endeavor than a similar event that happened a few weeks ago in Ireland.
Nevertheless, it ties in to the overall point of this blogpost. A few weeks ago, The Irish Catholic
reported a certain Catholic priest by the name of Father John Cummins, an administrator at the
Cathedral of the Assumption in the Irish Catholic Diocese of Kildare and Leighlin, who was joined
by three others parishioners, they devised an fundraiser that involved sky driving out of a plane
stationed at Clonbullogue Airfield. After garnering the necessary sponsorships from the rest of the
congregation and others, the four were able to collect at least an estimated €5,000. (The Irish

Human Action In Edgar Allen Poe s The Tell-Tale Heart
If you can once engage people s pride, love, pity, ambition (or whatever is their prevailing passion)
on your side, you need not fear what their reason can do against you
This quote is from Philip Stanhope, whether intentional or not, he has spawned a discussion on
whether the dominant force which governs human action is reason or passion. Two words which
are very different in definition, but at the same time, incredibly similar. Maybe there is something
in our daily life which has two very different parts which can coexist in unity. The Human, since
early times has been a creature of emotion. But also one with awe inspiring reasoning ability. The
early hominids sought food, and shelter, this was due to their will to live (passion), therefore ...

On a less disturbed note, (or maybe a worse one) We can look at war to see passion and reason. All
war has roots in both, passion can take form of religion, love, hate, nationalism, and many other
emotional responses, but there is always the reasonable justification. Expand the nation s territory,
or defend it s citizens, we ve all heard the reasons. But the aspect of war I feel to be most relevant is
power. Power is both a reasonable and passionate goal. For an example, let s take Hitler, (because is
there a more widely known historical figure?) After world war one while germany was in a horrible
depression, one man stepped forward as its savior. Adolf Hitler. He had all a political leader could
be expected to have and more. He was passionate in his speeches

Britain s Political And Religious Structure During The...
Between the years 1529 1588 and in the Tudor era, Britain saw perhaps the biggest changes in its
political and religious structure in its history. It changed from Catholicism to Protestantism, then
back and back again. It also saw major changes in who ran the country, with more involvement
from parliament. Different chief ministers (including Thomas Cromwell) had different impacts
on Britain and the monarch, and the influence of them will be assessed in this essay. Thomas
Wolsey was born in 1475, and rose his way the top. Before being made a cardinal, he became a
priest and a successful politician, and he was the almoner (in charge of distributing funds to the
poor) when Henry came to the throne in 1509. Wolsey held several important positions. He was
the Bishop of Lincoln, Canon of Windsor and also Prince Bishop of Durham. One
accomplishment that Wolsey is particularly remembered for, is organising the Field of The Cloth
Of Gold. This was a festival planned to celebrate the alliance between England and France, with
both monarchs, Henry VIII and Francis I strengthening their relationship. The treaty of London was
also a huge accomplishment for Wolsey, as he was the one who designed the 1518 treaty. It was a
non aggression pact between the major European nations, (France, England, Holy Roman Empire,
the Papacy, Spain, Burgundy and the Netherlands), all of whom agreed not to attack one another
and come to aid if needed. Though it was not always successful in stopping some

Whooping Cough Research Paper
Pertussis is an infectious disease that can be contracted by kids, teens and adults. Most people at
first cannot tell that it is Pertussis.. Well this is very common because a cold has nearly identical
symptoms to those of Pertussis. There are differences in the symtoms like how those of Pertussis
or Whooping Cough develop at a much slower rate than those of a cold. If left untreated, it can be
fatal. This is especially true if an infant contracts the disease. Since this disease is most common in
babies and kids this can be a huge concern for the majority of parents. Whooping Cough is an
infectious respiratory disease. Thus limiting your ability to breath. Whooping Cough is only found
in humans. Like most diseases Pertussisis caused by bacteria. Bordetella Pertussis is the disease that
causes Whooping Cough or Pertussis. Whooping Cough is a respiratory disease that has bacteria

Along with this major achievement they also created the first vaccine for whooping cough.
Helping prevent whooping cough, but it did not get rid of it. You can be diagnosed with
pertussis if you have shown signs of the symptoms. Doctors can also run a blood test or a
laboratory test. A laboratory test is the process of taking a sample of mucus with a swab or a
syringe that is filled with saline. Antibiotics have also been made for such an infectious disease.
One of the chilling facts associated with Pertussis is that when it is in infancy,it is nearly identical
to the common cold. Making it a living nightmare for the parents of young kids. This is because
most parents cannot tell a cold and Whooping Cough apart. People who have recently become
parents have a higher risk of their baby contracting the disease. Since kids make up a large part of
the population, it is extremely important to be vaccinated. Getting a vaccine greatly reduces the
chance of contracting the

Depersonalization Of Homelessness In Canada
Title
Issue:
The issue I will be focusing upon in this project will be the issue of homelessness and the
depersonalization of this population. There are approximately 235,000 people, in Canada a year,
who identify as homeless or acknowledged their position in life as homeless. 35,000 people, in
Canada, are homeless on any given night. This statistic is not just of white, men, (which seem to
be the overrepresented image in media) but rather is made up of people from every ethnicity, age
group, gender, background, and sexual orientation. With upwards of 6 7% of the population of
Canada having to live in homelessness a year, you would think that their issues would be further

No this project will not be catering to the disenfranchised invisible population of Canada, but
rather the metaphorical invisibility of homelessness. Many of these people are largely ignored
and are treated like subhuman s because of their state of life and end up feeling like they are
invisible in the eyes of the community around them. This project will be an event taking place
across the span of a month and will be stationed at any shelters that would be willing to allow
space and time for this project. This project will be taking place in shelters across Windsor,
Ontario and such will bring more awareness to these locations. Not only will this open the public
s eyes to the problem, but would also give them an easy means to help by donating their time and
money to a very worthy cause. This would allow for easy fundraising for our lovely hosts at the
various shelters. In this project we would also like to encourage people with any skills they can
provide to bring them as an asset. For example, if you are a skilled guitar player, maybe you
could play some music for the people attending the project/event or teach a group how to play. Or
you are an avid board gamer, you could bring in some games and play them with groups and set up
little community matches. These games and interactions would be between the attendees and the
homeless people looking for interaction. This would encourage further conversation and would
allow for safe interaction and strong community building. Finally this project would contact
members of the financial sector and set up community classes for finance and life skills. This
would allow for advancement and structure for these groups, while also allowing them to alleviate
stress, provide support, and social

Compare And Contrast The Twins Of Siam And The Elephant Man
Comparative Analytical Text Essay
The Twins of Siam and The Elephant Man
Essay question:
People who are physically disabled all lead similar lives.
Do the Twins of Siam and the Elephant Man show this to be true?
The Elephant Man is the true story of Joseph Merrick s life from Tim Vicary s novel. Joseph
Merrick was born in London in 1862 and later, he developed a disease that made him disabled.
The Twins of Siam is a short text about Change and Eng, who were the conjoined twins, born in
Thailand in 1811. These characters in both stories are all disabled and lived in the 18th century.
Even though they all experience physical disabilities, Joseph Merrick s life does not have a lot
in common with Chang and Eng s. While they are all physically disabled and stared at by others,
Joseph s life is more miserable since he suffers more abuse than the twins do. However, Joseph
Merrick and the twins all have some happiness experiences in their lives, but he experiences more
loneliness and misery than Chang and Eng. Although these three men feel frustrated because of
their disabilities, they all find some activities that they enjoy and make the best of their lives.
While Merrick, Chang and Eng are all physically disabled and stared at by others, Joseph s life is
more pathetic since he suffers more abuse than the twins do. Unfortunately, Merrick has been
humiliated and treated terribly by a man called Silcock in his early days, and he has no way of
escaping his miserable life. When

The Importance Of Vehicle Safety
The purpose of this policy is to ensure the safety of those individuals who drive company
vehicles and to provide guidance on the proper use of company vehicles. Vehicle accidents are
costly to our company, but more importantly, they may result in injury to you or others. It is the
driver s responsibility to operate the vehicle in a safe manner and to drive defensively to prevent
injuries and property damage. As such, employers endorse all applicable state motor vehicle

Occupational Therapist, Social And Human Service...
With the variety of majors and interests college offers, the decision of choosing a career holds a
heavy weight. There are many paths one can go to have a successful, fulfilling job for the rest of
their lives; this is where college can explore a person s likes and dislikes. From taking taking the
self assessment, it resulted careers that revolve around medical and/or as educators to help others.
These choices seemed very very accurate and possible that I want to pursue. I have always been
passionate of caring for others in some source. The four careers that I decided to further research
are: occupational therapist, social and human service assistant, pharmacist, and veterinarian. An
occupational therapist treat ill and/or disabled patients to regain the ability to do everyday
activities. These patients could range from working with children, old adults, ones without a limb,
alzheimer patients, and etc. They could also work at hospitals, schools, home health care services,
or go to the patient s home directly. This career requires a master s degree in occupational therapy.
The median annual wage for this career is $80,150 with being $38.54 per hour (BLS, 2015b).
Employment of occupational therapist is projected to increase 27 percent, which is faster than the
average compared than all occupations (BLS, 2015b). In the Las Vegas area, there are currently
124 full timejob openings and 35 part timejob openings (Indeed, 2016b). When I was in high

Red Waves Research Paper
As many scientists over the years have been observing, the universe is continuously expanding.
The galaxy s velocity is proportional to its distance. Also, that galaxies that are 3 times as far from
us move 3 times as fast too! Going back to the expansion part, the universe is just not expanding in
one direction, but in every direction there exists! This observation proves that it has taken the
equivalent amount of time to move from a common starting position to its current position And
since the universehas been continuously expanding there are more and more clusters of galaxies,
this. The phenomenon of the galaxies, which are moving farther away from each other, is
commonly known as the Red Shift. As light from the distant galaxies come on earth there is a
significant increase of space between earth and the galaxy, which leads to wavelengths being
stretched.
In addition to understanding the velocity of galaxies emanating from a single point, there is further
evidence of the big bang. Somewhere in the 1900s, two astronomers seemed to detect microwaves
from outer space and surprisingly discovered an odd noise. This unique type of voice was not just
from one location, but it came from all directions at once. At first, it was believed that they were
extraterrestrial noises but after a few years of research Later it was found out that those ... Show

NCIS Season 12
In a little more than two weeks, television s most watched show returns to our screens. NCIS has
had quite the season last year as the team faced a dangerous mercenary, dealt with tough
challenges in the character s private lives and ended with children being used by terrorists and
Gibbs getting shot as a result. Before the show returns on September 22, it s time to look back at
season 12 and look ahead to the new season. I will start this article with a brief recap of the main
events of last season, then do a review of last season and finally I will look at the information we

Recap of season 12
The first half of season 12 saw the team being hunted by Russian mercenary Sergei Mishnev. He
first stirred trouble in the season premiere when he shot down a helicopter with Gibbs, McGee and
a few others. Guided by the NCIS team in DC and Russian Counselor Anton Pavlenko, the teame

Comparing Beowulf And Gilgamesh
The Babylonian Gilgamesh and the Christian Priest Beowulf both feature important heroes. An
important part of a hero s journey is the transformation that the hero s character goes through over
the course of the story. In Gilgamesh, Gilgamesh is an ill mannered king, while in Beowulf;
Beowulf is a great warrior for his town. These two works show the different processes of a heroand
the process they must go through to be remembered as one. Gilgamesh includes the idea that he
can go on a journey to find the cure, for him to become immortal and live forever. By contrast,
Beowulfgoes on a journey by going on a mission to defeat the great monster Grendel. Elsewhere in

These hero s second and third journeys within themselves would have to be the main and lowest
points in their lives. In Gilgamesh, we see the once arrogant king becoming weak and lost.
Gilgamesh is searching for the right path to take to try and make his life better. His character is
sad and depressed and needs guidance on the right path to take. As the author states, Therefore,
Gilgamesh decides to seek out Utnapishtim, who alone of human beings has achieved immortality.
Gilgamesh stops at the inn of the alewife Siduri to ask for directions to Utnapishtim land. She tells
Gilgamesh that he will first need to find Urshanabi and that Urshanabi can take him to see
Utnapishtim. Later that same author mentions, When Gilgamesh asks Utnapishtim how he
became immortal, Utnapishtim relates the Flood myth Utnapishtim explains that his own
immortality was a special case, a direct byproduct of the Flood. If, however, Gilgamesh really
wants to become immortal, Utnapishtim says, he should first stay awake for six days and seven
nights. Exhausted by his travels, Gilgamesh quickly falls asleep and sleeps for six days and seven
nights, until Utnapishtim wakes him. Then Gilgamesh knows for sure: he is going to die. In
contrast Beowulf is also faced with some big decisions to make to protect his small town. Since

Hypertension is one of the major risk factors for the development of cardiovascular diseases
including stroke and may also have a role in the development of vascular cognitive impairment and

role in the rennin angiotensinsystem and it is a carboxyl terminal dipeptidyl exopeptidase that

Disadvantages Of Membrane Distillation
As time goes by, the fresh water supplement for living on the earth planet will become a serious
problem [1 3]. In addition, the Middle East is mentioned as one of the poorest regions in all over
the world in terms of water resources with less than 1% of the total available global freshwater per
capita [4, 5]. Therefore, one of the strategic options to satisfy the current and future request for fresh
water in countries established around Gulf is to build up desalination units. So, immediate need has
arisen to construct economic units for water desalination. Nowadays, it has been proved that
membrane separation processeshave several advantages for desalination and water reuse of
contaminated resources in comparison to the conventional separation methods [1, 6 8].... Show

MD is a thermally driven separation process that utilizes a hydrophobic, membrane as a contactor
media between two fluids kept at different temperatures where the separation is obtained by the
mass transfer of the vapor phase. The driving force of the process is given by a partial vapor
pressure difference that caused from the temperature difference [13 17]. Two advantages of MD
are, the process performance is not highly affected by high feed salinity as see water, and has the
theoretical ability to reach 100% salt rejection [13, 18, 19]. There are commonly four types of
membranes arrangements for MD process: Direct Contact Membrane Distillation (DCMD), Vacuum
Membrane Distillation (VMD), Air Gap Membrane Distillation (AGMD), and the Sweeping Gas
Membrane Distillation (SGMD) [18, 20 22]. AGMD configuration is appropriated for water
desalination [23, 24], on the other hand water gap showed higher thermal efficiency and less
internal heat loss in comparison to AGMD [18, 25]. Therefore, these two arrangements are

Lab Report Preparing Esters

Preparing Esters
Introduction:
In chemistry, an ester is an organic compound that contains a carboxyl group in which carbon is
double bonded to one oxygen atom and single bonded to another.(Clancy). The main types of
organic reaction that occur are Addition, Elimination, Substitution, Condensation, Esterification,
Hydrolysis, Oxidation, Reduction and Combustion reactions. Throughout this experiment, one will
observe the changes of how an esterification reaction takes place using different substances to form
an ester. Esters are formed when a carboxylic acid reacts with an alcohol resulting in an
esterification reaction. (Clancy). The most common way of making an ester, R OH + R COOH пѓ

In the preparation of Ethanoic acid with Ethanol, 1mL of Ethanol was first placed into a 50mL
empty beaker and the odour and properties were observed. The Ethanol was a clear colourless
liquid that smelt similar to a permanent marker. In daily life, Ethanol is used in alcohol drinks
such as different types of liquors, it s a solvent for paint, and is one of the important tools to get
rid of air pollution from automobiles due to the fact that there is 35% oxygen in Ethanol, and the
addition of oxygen to fuels accomplishes complete combustion, thus, minimizing harmful
emissions. (Mueller). Nonetheless, Ethanol is miscible in water and could be biodegraded.
(Mueller). The next step to the process was to add 1mL of Ethanoic acid into Ethanol. Ethanoic
acid into Ethanol smelled similar to vinegar and the smell got stronger than Ethanol placed in a
beaker. Once the Ethanoic acid and Ethanol were mixed and heated in the presence of Sulfuric
acid, an esterification reaction was taking place. The odour was stronger allowing detailed
observations of the ester formed. The first ester formed was Ethyl Ethanoate. The reaction was
slow, and a lot of Ethyl Ethanoate was not produced. Consequently, the smell was disguised due to
the smell of the Ethanoic acid. (Clark). However, the mixture was squeezed from the pipette onto a
watch glass and mixed with droplets of water

National Incident Management System Analysis
Major emergencies, acts of terrorism and disasters have become more frequent in recent decades.
These disasters affect more and more people, taxing local state and federal resources. Mass
casualty incidents are commonly classified as disasters due to a large number of individuals
affected by the event. Many lives are saved if the affected communities are prepared organized and
have developed emergency response plans in place before the disaster. Also, survivors of mass
casualty incidents often suffer from ill health and disabilities placing, even more strain on
emergency responders. In these disaster situations, the local emergency responders are the first to
arrive on the scene and began rescue efforts. As the incident escalates, more resources from local,
private, state and federal levels respond to the scene. Due to a large number of people affected by

The challenges associated with MCI s can be mitigated with thorough and practiced emergency
operation plans. These plans should utilize the National Incident Management System (NIMS) as
the foundation for the development of the plan. Using the NIMS will allow responders to tailor the
plan according to how many patients, casualties, and a large number of walking wounded that will
need treatment. When sufficient warning is provided the number of patients will be minimized, but
plans must accommodate a large number of evacuees. These evacuees will need timely and
pertinent information to evacuate safely and efficiently. Developing emergency operation plans

Feminism in Like Water for Chocolate by Laura Esquivel Essay
Feminism in Like Water for Chocolate by Laura Esquivel
There are many different definitions of feminism. Some people regard feminism as the idea that
women deserve the same amount of respect that men deserve. There are the other schools of
feminist thought that hold women superior to men. Yet another believes that the gender roles
controlling women are artificially created and not innate knowledge, and thus men and women are
equals with only history the determining factor and how gender equality is established. There are
clear feminist overtones in Like Water for Chocolate by Laura Esquivel. Esquivel pointes to a more
radical definition of feminism in Like Water for Chocolate. The story focuses on mostly female
characters that assume ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mama Elena goes on, for better or worse, attempting the best she can to raise a family in the
tumultuous time of the Mexican revolution. She struggles against her rebellious daughter in her
own attempt to keep her family s heritage and traditions alive. Not only does she raise a family
but she also runs the ranch on which the live and on derive their sustenance. Early on in the novel
we see that Esquivel presents a character that deserves the same amount of respect normally giving
to a male character in this same role. By placing this normally male role in a woman Esquivel
questions the typical role of the woman in a home of just raising children by bestowing additional
responsibilities.
We see elsewhere in the novel the strength in Gertrudis, Tita s sister. Gertrudis escapes the ranch
after reacting mysteriously to one of Tita s recipes. She runs away with a rebel soldier, works in a
brothel at the Mexico Texas border, and eventually returns to the ranch as a general in the
revolutionary army. Here we witness the creation of a second strong female character. When we
first see Gertrudis we see just another female character. But after her return we find that she has
become a leader of in the revolution. Again Esquivel takes a potion that is typically male
associated and fills that role with and equally respectable female character.
There is then the focal character, Tita. Tita is the pivotal character in defining Like Water for

A Summary Of Olympia By Edouard Manet
Known as one of the most controversial artists in his time, Edouard Manet had suffered rejection
and endured a great deal of adversity for his unconventional style and his choice of subjects in his
paintings, barely dressed women. When Manet s Olympia was revealed in 1865, it shocked critics
for its subject, a nude woman. The question I ask in this instance is, why was this painting in
particular seen so controversial and shocking?, What makes this painting so different to others that
have come before it?. There is a long tradition of female nude being represented in beautiful, erotic
way, what makes this a stand out?
What we can take from the painting at first glance is: The model in the painting itself is leaning
upright on a bed, naked, with only an Orchid in her hair, a ribbon tied around her neck, a bangle
and some slippers on. A hand maid is standing by her holding a bouquet of flowers while a little
black cat is sitting at the end of the bed. If we look and put thought into what we are looking at, we
can gather a refined understanding of why this painting stands out. One of the many reasons why
the public disfavoured this painting was simply its painting style, the public thought its painting
application was very rough and botched, the painting even seemed unfinished to some. How
Olympia herself was painted came under fire too, Her flesh tones look washed out and one
dimensional, there is no realistic shading transitions within the painting. The composition of

Barnes Foundation Controversy
Alfred Barnes, who had a passion for collecting famous artworks for educating and developing
character within individuals, founded The Barnes Foundation in 1922. He housed his collection in

everyday man should have the opportunity to visit and appreciate honored artworks as well as to

that the foundation should not be considered an art museum. As stated by Barnes, the purpose of
the foundation was, to be maintained perpetually for education in the appreciation of the fine arts

ethical breach Glanton spearheaded in, was the decision to move the entire Barnes collection to
downtown Philadelphia, rather than following Barnes s instruction to preserve the artworks

Descriptive Essay On The Blue Ridge Mountains
It was finally time to take off. I had anticipated this trip south for several weeks. Now the last
item was packed in the RV and we were ready to hit the road. One of the things I enjoy most is
getting off the beaten path and traveling the backroads. And, we were going to be able to do that
on most of this trip. Part of the advantages of traveling the backroads is being able to take in some
fantastic views of this country s landscape, slowing down our pace enough to enjoy all the simple
pleasures along the way, and specifically on this trip, enjoying that native southern hospitality.
No matter how many times I see them, my heart always perks up when I first see those Blue Ridge
mountains. And, it is always an inspirational sight to behold when you see that mist rising in the
Smoky Mountains. However, I am just as awe struck by the magnificent views as you wind through
the Nantahala in North Carolina. Beautiful rapids and waterfalls are throughout this National Forest
also. It is spectacular!
As we made our way further south, crossing over in to Georgia, we were greeted by droves of cars
parked along the sides of the roads. People were enjoying the simple pleasure of whitewater rafting.
However, when you are the one pulling a 35 ft RV maneuvering through those hair pin turns,
trying to avoid the cars on both sides of the road, it doesn t seem like a pleasure; at least for the
moment. Then, in the middle of dodging the cars on the side of the road, a van stopped right in
front of us. No kidding, the van stopped in the middle of the lane on a blind curve to let their
little boy go to the bathroom. However, as you can well image, there are no bathrooms! Seriously,
traffic came to a complete halt in the Chattahoochee River National Park. We had to shake our head
and laugh at that one, thankful that no one got hurt! It is at times like this you have to laugh and
say, traveling the backroads is also an adventure!
After that it was smooth sailing. We finished out the last part of our trip driving through a beautiful
little college town. The picturesque setting of Young Harris is what I love about traveling the
backroads. It takes longer but you gain a glimpse of small town living. And then we pulled into

Stereotypes In Social Psychology Paper
Aside from arising from mental shortcuts, it has also been proposed that stereotypes are a result of
group conflict (Sherif, 1966). Regularly, individuals behave in a way that is expected of them in
order to uphold the impressions others have of them. Thus, individuals act accordingly and embody
the stereotypewhich is projected upon them (Baumeister Bushman). The degree to which we rely on
stereotypes when establishing judgements of others has been widely investigated in the field of
social psychology. Frequently, the harmful consequences of relying on stereotypes is noted with
the potential of this tendency to lead to prejudiceand discrimination. Furthermore, the variation in
the significance of stereotypes has been explored to determine... Show more content on

Furthermore, these processes are potentially subject to bias due to the assimilative effects of
existing knowledge on information processing (Macrae, Stangor Hewstone, 1996). It is essential
to comprehend these concepts before delving into the importance of stereotypes when forming
impressions of others. In the initial stage of developing schemas, they allow the individual to
ignore what is perceived to be unimportant or unnecessary details of a situation, thus reducing the
complexity of the information (Macrae, Stangor Hewstone, 1996). Indeed, schemas guide
behaviour and allow a platform for individuals to make mental shortcuts and damaging
stereotypes, they can also simplify life and are useful in every day situations (Macrae, Stangor
Hewstone, 1996). For example, if one had an existing stereotype that guns are dangerous and
hastily decided to move to the other side of the street after noticing a man with a gun this would be
an extremely useful and possibly life saving use of a stereotype. However, whether stereotypes are
considered to be beneficial or unconstructive they are undeniably important when forming

Familial expectations hold a significant impact on the development of an individual s outlook on

These children are expected to be outstanding in every aspect of society, such as educational and

only listen to their puppeteer, the parents. These expectations define an individual s perspective,

Stress is a common problem in modern day life today. It is a basic thing of everyday life and
there is no way to completely escape it. Most people associate stress with a negative situations;
however, whether the stress related problem is negative or positive, the important key is how you
respond to it. People experience stressin many different ways. Because stress has negative effects,
it will usually manifest itself it one way or another. Stress is not avoidable but it can be managed
with different techniques. In order to minimize risks due to stress is to identify stress related
problems early. This is to avoid serious stress related illnesses to occur. According to Hans Selye,
one of the fathers of stress research, stress is considered to be a combination of situations that
trigger the emotional and physical reactions. The stress response is the reactions themselves. My
son studied very hard to take his drivers permit test in order to begin his driving lessons. He
eventually took the test; however, he failed the test. He was so upset and disappointed for failing
the test. He studied so much that he was confident he would pass the test with flying colors. In this
situation, the permit test was the potential stressor. The stress response was being upset and
disappointed for failing the test. This caused him to experience stress. It took him a while to pick

African Americans And The Civil Rights Movement

Research paper Many Americans try to pretend that just because slavery has come to an end and
the Civil Rights movement occurred that racism has just suddenly vanished, but that s not the case.
A person is not born racist, it is taught while growing up in a racist environment. It is a learned
behavior of hate towards someone not you. Racism is very evident in men s professional sports
today but also had an even greater effect in the past. There was a point in time where African
American males were not allowed to participate in professional sports and they were shunned and
labeled as outcasts who did not have the decency to step on the same field, court, or ring. Now
that they are allowed to participate in professional sports African Americans have to deal with a
great deal of racism in today s society which brings about many controversies such as riots,
banning of athletes, team fines, and the sale of teams. In today s society sports has great
influence, effect and power which can serve as a bridge for the gap between racism and
discrimination. Racism will never fully go away, but as a society work can be done to lessen the
problem and come to a point where it is so minuscule it wouldn t even be a thought. People can t

Pluto Is A Dwarf Planet
Pluto has been voted off the island.
The distant, ice covered world is no longer a true planet, according to a new definition of the term
voted on by scientists today.
Whoa! Pluto s dead, said astronomer Mike Brown, of the California Institute of Technology in
Pasadena, as he watched a Webcast of the vote. There are finally, officially, eight planets in the
solar system.
In a move that s already generating controversy and will force textbooks to be rewritten, Pluto will
now be dubbed a dwarf planet.
But it s no longer part of an exclusive club, since there are more than 40 of these dwarfs, including
the large asteroid Ceres and 2003 UB313, nicknamed Xena a distant object slightly larger than
Pluto discovered by Brown last year.
We know of 44 dwarf planets so far, Brown said. We will find hundreds. It s a very huge category.
A clear majority of researchers voted for the new definition at a meeting of the International
Astronomical Union (IAU) in Prague, in the Czech Republic. The IAU decides the official names
of all celestial bodies.
The tough decision comes after a multi year search for a scientific definition of the word planet.
The term never had an official meaning before.
What Is a Planet Today?
According to the new definition, a full fledged planet is an object that orbits the sun and is large
enough to have become round due to the force of its own gravity. In addition, a planet has to

such as recognition and the welfare state in a multicultural society.

One problem that exists within the multicultural society is the way education is taught in schools.
One of the major problems that exist within the educational system in a multicultural society is that
it acts as a power structure within society (cite). Many times, even in a multicultural society, the
education is taught through the perspective of the stronger group , and therefore the minorities are
not fully represented. This type of education creates a model of one sided co existence , thus
creating many cultural gaps between groups in society and as a result decreases the potentiality of
multiculturalism. Bank believes that the current mainstream citizenship type of education prevents
the citizens (mostly schoolchildren) to learn about their complex and multilevel identities. He
continues and says that it does not include the four main elements of citizenship (civil, political,
social and cultural) and as a result does not teach the youth what it means to be a participating
citizen. Bank also believes that is crucial for us in a multicultural society to use the transformative
citizenship education system, which enables all the citizens and youth to understand their complex
identities. This way of teaching will also validate and recognize the culture of the students, and it
will open the passageway for civil

long enough with nobody using em. I hope she will. (DiYanni 748) With little or no money
during tough times, poorer families have often had to be more self reliant where learning to sew
was a skill that was valued and passed down to the younger generation. Maggie embraced this skill
while her more ambitious sister did not see the value in learning such an ordinary task. She can

What Is The Double Spiral Of Conflict
There are a lot of knowledgeable people who come together in a company to work towards a
common motive. All the workers, for exsample, in an oil refining company have a lot of
knowledge, interest and intelligence about the job. These factors lead the workers to be in
different camps while working and eventually cause separation due to their different views. The
double spiral of conflict contains two ends where the upper end explains some of the values that
will bring back the parties together while the other end strains the whole group to a downfall.
When the two camps are separated, they will try to create a conflict, and as both do not want to
retreat, they see themselves as supposed to fight back (Albrecht 58). Thinking of the double spiral

Reverend Clementa Pinckney s Speech
Barack Obama, President of the United States, is said to have delivered one of the most
beautifully written and well thought out speeches of his presidency. This speech, (or eulogy), is
a result of the death of Reverend Clementa Pinckney, a man whose life was cut short under the
hands of a white supremacist. Obama s speech resonated so well with citizens because of the
writing and the delivery altogether. Specifically, the internal workings of the speech were current
with Reverend Pinckney s principles and beliefs. The fortitude laced in his voice also contributed
greatly to the effect the speech had on the people. President Obama was able to relate extremely
well to speech goers because he used Reverend Clementa Pinckney s faith as a

  • 2. Mpaa s Rating System In This Film Is Not Yet Rated The 2006 film, This Film is Not Yet Rated , argues that the Motion Picture Association of America s (MPAA s) rating system for films is a form of censorship with underlying purposes. The rating system s purposes as the film presents include profit, box office numbers, image, control and company interest. The filmpresents its thesis with facts, independent investigation and commentary by people within the film industry and those that the MPAA s film rating system directly affects. The film makes a persuasive argument that the MPAA s rating system is a form of censorship. The enemies of movies and ratings include Jack Valenti, Joan Graves and the MPAA. Valenti is the overseer of the MPAA and Graves is the head of the MPAA review board. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This affirmation is not too unbelievable because Valenti comes from Washington according to the film. It is not absurd for Valenti and the MPAA to have acquaintances that have specific interest that Valenti and the MPAA try to fulfill. In doing so Valenti and the MPAA may receive legislation in their favor or funding from his acquaintances. Dick reveals another facet of his argument to the viewers when he examines who is on the board of appeals of movie ratings at the MPAA. This board decides if a movie rating should be appealed on a case by case basis. The appeals board is made of many people. These people are not your common, plain and everyday type of people that the MPAA wants you to believe they are according to the movie. The movie explains the people on the appeals board include people that represent big companies in the media world. Some of the companies the movies mention being represented include Regal Entertainment Group, Sony Pictures, Fox Searchlight Pictures and others. Allowing big companies to control what films make it to the screen can cripple certain movies that the group does not see fit to be on display to the public. These groups can also eliminate movies that pose a threat to their specific film s profit and box office ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Roman Catholic Church Power According to Strayer and Nelson, The roman catholic church had more power than many empires during the 15th century. This power was generated from the morality it introduced to its people bringing many together. This brought many people together for a similar belief making the church even more powerful socially and politically. As stated by Strayer and Nelson, the empires often selected church officials for the catholic church. This gave the kings a perception of power that would keep them at peace with the power that the church actually had. It also kept the empires from fighting for the power keeping the number of followers strong. Which kept the social and political cohesion between the empires strong. Which is mentioned by Strayer and Nelson, the followers of the religion are supposed to follow strict rules of morality. Showing that despite what your feelings towards a rule are you must follow them to stay out of trouble. This illustrates and immense amount of power due to the fact that the churches rules are more important than the rules of the government. Making it certain that the church must have more power over the governments of the empires because their laws come first. According to Strayer and Nelson, the church also said that all people should be treated equally. Although the people must follow this law stated by the church it is evident based on the hierarchical system that this is not the case. The officials in the hierarchical system at the higher end are making all these decisions showing that they did not have equality in the decision making despite this rule. Overall, the churches moral beliefs illustrate that despite the moral beliefs they instill the church still has power over everybody ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In this era in the history of Man, recent innovations in avionic technology has allowed men to fly to distant lands, at rates far greater than what was once feasible centuries ago. Granted, it is true that attempts were made during the early 20th century on the creation of VTOL (Vertical Take Off and Landing) aircraft by Juan de La Cierva of Spain, with a successful recorded flight in 1923. De La Cierva s VTOL aircraft was known as Gyroplane. (Scientists and Friends) However, it was not until the Second World War, did VTOL aircraft finally appear into its modern day incarnation. (Catholic News Agency) The preceding article in question goes off on a digression, subsequently discussing about a similar effort, but across the entire country of Mexico, with the center of mass being the Cathedral within the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Guadalajara, presided over by His Eminence, Cardinal Juan Sandoval ГЌГ±iguez. But still, the overall point of the article is this: Every bishop is the chief exorcist of his own diocese. Anytime anyone with the authority uses his power against Satan, (sic) that is powerful. Every priest and bishop has that power. To be fair, an exorcism from the skies above is a much more important endeavor than a similar event that happened a few weeks ago in Ireland. Nevertheless, it ties in to the overall point of this blogpost. A few weeks ago, The Irish Catholic reported a certain Catholic priest by the name of Father John Cummins, an administrator at the Cathedral of the Assumption in the Irish Catholic Diocese of Kildare and Leighlin, who was joined by three others parishioners, they devised an fundraiser that involved sky driving out of a plane stationed at Clonbullogue Airfield. • 5. Human Action In Edgar Allen Poe s The Tell-Tale Heart If you can once engage people s pride, love, pity, ambition (or whatever is their prevailing passion) on your side, you need not fear what their reason can do against you This quote is from Philip Stanhope, whether intentional or not, he has spawned a discussion on whether the dominant force which governs human action is reason or passion. Two words which are very different in definition, but at the same time, incredibly similar. Maybe there is something in our daily life which has two very different parts which can coexist in unity. The Human, since early times has been a creature of emotion. But also one with awe inspiring reasoning ability. The early hominids sought food, and shelter, this was due to their will to live (passion), therefore ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On a less disturbed note, (or maybe a worse one) We can look at war to see passion and reason. All war has roots in both, passion can take form of religion, love, hate, nationalism, and many other emotional responses, but there is always the reasonable justification. Expand the nation s territory, or defend it s citizens, we ve all heard the reasons. But the aspect of war I feel to be most relevant is power. Power is both a reasonable and passionate goal. For an example, let s take Hitler, (because is there a more widely known historical figure?) After world war one while germany was in a horrible depression, one man stepped forward as its savior. • 6. Britain s Political And Religious Structure During The... Between the years 1529 1588 and in the Tudor era, Britain saw perhaps the biggest changes in its political and religious structure in its history. It changed from Catholicism to Protestantism, then back and back again. It also saw major changes in who ran the country, with more involvement from parliament. Different chief ministers (including Thomas Cromwell) had different impacts on Britain and the monarch, and the influence of them will be assessed in this essay. Thomas Wolsey was born in 1475, and rose his way the top. Before being made a cardinal, he became a priest and a successful politician, and he was the almoner (in charge of distributing funds to the poor) when Henry came to the throne in 1509. Wolsey held several important positions. He was the Bishop of Lincoln, Canon of Windsor and also Prince Bishop of Durham. One accomplishment that Wolsey is particularly remembered for, is organising the Field of The Cloth Of Gold. This was a festival planned to celebrate the alliance between England and France, with both monarchs, Henry VIII and Francis I strengthening their relationship. The treaty of London was also a huge accomplishment for Wolsey, as he was the one who designed the 1518 treaty. It was a non aggression pact between the major European nations, (France, England, Holy Roman Empire, the Papacy, Spain, Burgundy and the Netherlands), all of whom agreed not to attack one another and come to aid if needed. • 7. Whooping Cough Research Paper Pertussis is an infectious disease that can be contracted by kids, teens and adults. Most people at first cannot tell that it is Pertussis.. Well this is very common because a cold has nearly identical symptoms to those of Pertussis. There are differences in the symtoms like how those of Pertussis or Whooping Cough develop at a much slower rate than those of a cold. If left untreated, it can be fatal. This is especially true if an infant contracts the disease. Since this disease is most common in babies and kids this can be a huge concern for the majority of parents. Whooping Cough is an infectious respiratory disease. Thus limiting your ability to breath. Whooping Cough is only found in humans. Like most diseases Pertussisis caused by bacteria. You can be diagnosed with pertussis if you have shown signs of the symptoms. Doctors can also run a blood test or a laboratory test. A laboratory test is the process of taking a sample of mucus with a swab or a syringe that is filled with saline. Antibiotics have also been made for such an infectious disease. One of the chilling facts associated with Pertussis is that when it is in infancy,it is nearly identical to the common cold. Making it a living nightmare for the parents of young kids. This is because most parents cannot tell a cold and Whooping Cough apart. People who have recently become parents have a higher risk of their baby contracting the disease. Since kids make up a large part of the population, it is extremely important to be vaccinated. Getting a vaccine greatly reduces the chance of contracting the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are approximately 235,000 people, in Canada a year, who identify as homeless or acknowledged their position in life as homeless. 35,000 people, in Canada, are homeless on any given night. This statistic is not just of white, men, (which seem to be the overrepresented image in media) but rather is made up of people from every ethnicity, age group, gender, background, and sexual orientation. Many of these people are largely ignored and are treated like subhuman s because of their state of life and end up feeling like they are invisible in the eyes of the community around them. This project will be an event taking place across the span of a month and will be stationed at any shelters that would be willing to allow space and time for this project. This project will be taking place in shelters across Windsor, Ontario and such will bring more awareness to these locations. Not only will this open the public s eyes to the problem, but would also give them an easy means to help by donating their time and money to a very worthy cause. This would allow for easy fundraising for our lovely hosts at the various shelters. In this project we would also like to encourage people with any skills they can provide to bring them as an asset. For example, if you are a skilled guitar player, maybe you could play some music for the people attending the project/event or teach a group how to play. Or you are an avid board gamer, you could bring in some games and play them with groups and set up little community matches. These games and interactions would be between the attendees and the homeless people looking for interaction. This would encourage further conversation and would allow for safe interaction and strong community building. Finally this project would contact members of the financial sector and set up community classes for finance and life skills. This would allow for advancement and structure for these groups, while also allowing them to alleviate stress, provide support, and social ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Compare And Contrast The Twins Of Siam And The Elephant Man Comparative Analytical Text Essay The Twins of Siam and The Elephant Man Essay question: People who are physically disabled all lead similar lives. Do the Twins of Siam and the Elephant Man show this to be true? The Elephant Man is the true story of Joseph Merrick s life from Tim Vicary s novel. Joseph Merrick was born in London in 1862 and later, he developed a disease that made him disabled. The Twins of Siam is a short text about Change and Eng, who were the conjoined twins, born in Thailand in 1811. These characters in both stories are all disabled and lived in the 18th century. Even though they all experience physical disabilities, Joseph Merrick s life does not have a lot in common with Chang and Eng s. While they are all physically disabled and stared at by others, Joseph s life is more miserable since he suffers more abuse than the twins do. However, Joseph Merrick and the twins all have some happiness experiences in their lives, but he experiences more loneliness and misery than Chang and Eng. Although these three men feel frustrated because of their disabilities, they all find some activities that they enjoy and make the best of their lives. While Merrick, Chang and Eng are all physically disabled and stared at by others, Joseph s life is more pathetic since he suffers more abuse than the twins do. • 11. Occupational Therapist, Social And Human Service... With the variety of majors and interests college offers, the decision of choosing a career holds a heavy weight. There are many paths one can go to have a successful, fulfilling job for the rest of their lives; this is where college can explore a person s likes and dislikes. From taking taking the self assessment, it resulted careers that revolve around medical and/or as educators to help others. These choices seemed very very accurate and possible that I want to pursue. I have always been passionate of caring for others in some source. The four careers that I decided to further research are: occupational therapist, social and human service assistant, pharmacist, and veterinarian. These patients could range from working with children, old adults, ones without a limb, alzheimer patients, and etc. They could also work at hospitals, schools, home health care services, or go to the patient s home directly. This career requires a master s degree in occupational therapy. The median annual wage for this career is $80,150 with being $38.54 per hour (BLS, 2015b). Employment of occupational therapist is projected to increase 27 percent, which is faster than the average compared than all occupations (BLS, 2015b). • 12. Red Waves Research Paper As many scientists over the years have been observing, the universe is continuously expanding. The galaxy s velocity is proportional to its distance. Also, that galaxies that are 3 times as far from us move 3 times as fast too! Going back to the expansion part, the universe is just not expanding in one direction, but in every direction there exists! This observation proves that it has taken the equivalent amount of time to move from a common starting position to its current position And since the universehas been continuously expanding there are more and more clusters of galaxies, this. The phenomenon of the galaxies, which are moving farther away from each other, is commonly known as the Red Shift. As light from the distant galaxies come on earth there is a significant increase of space between earth and the galaxy, which leads to wavelengths being stretched. In addition to understanding the velocity of galaxies emanating from a single point, there is further evidence of the big bang. Indeed, schemas guide behaviour and allow a platform for individuals to make mental shortcuts and damaging stereotypes, they can also simplify life and are useful in every day situations (Macrae, Stangor Hewstone, 1996). For example, if one had an existing stereotype that guns are dangerous and hastily decided to move to the other side of the street after noticing a man with a gun this would be an extremely useful and possibly life saving use of a stereotype. However, whether stereotypes are considered to be beneficial or unconstructive they are undeniably important when forming impressions of other ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 34. African Americans And The Civil Rights Movement Mitchell Thomas Ms. Conley English 12 3 March 2015 Research paper Many Americans try to pretend that just because slavery has come to an end and the Civil Rights movement occurred that racism has just suddenly vanished, but that s not the case. A person is not born racist, it is taught while growing up in a racist environment. It is a learned behavior of hate towards someone not you. Racism is very evident in men s professional sports today but also had an even greater effect in the past. There was a point in time where African American males were not allowed to participate in professional sports and they were shunned and labeled as outcasts who did not have the decency to step on the same field, court, or ring. Now that they are allowed to participate in professional sports African Americans have to deal with a great deal of racism in today s society which brings about many controversies such as riots, banning of athletes, team fines, and the sale of teams. In today s society sports has great influence, effect and power which can serve as a bridge for the gap between racism and discrimination. Racism will never fully go away, but as a society work can be done to lessen the problem and come to a point where it is so minuscule it wouldn t even be a thought. People can t change the world unless they change themselves. It starts with the people first. Racism comes from the thought and teachings that people are less than human. It is a thought that plagues minds ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Pluto Is A Dwarf Planet Pluto has been voted off the island. The distant, ice covered world is no longer a true planet, according to a new definition of the term voted on by scientists today. Whoa! Pluto s dead, said astronomer Mike Brown, of the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, as he watched a Webcast of the vote. There are finally, officially, eight planets in the solar system. In a move that s already generating controversy and will force textbooks to be rewritten, Pluto will now be dubbed a dwarf planet. But it s no longer part of an exclusive club, since there are more than 40 of these dwarfs, including the large asteroid Ceres and 2003 UB313, nicknamed Xena a distant object slightly larger than Pluto discovered by Brown last year. We know of 44 dwarf planets so far, Brown said. We will find hundreds. It s a very huge category. A clear majority of researchers voted for the new definition at a meeting of the International Astronomical Union (IAU) in Prague, in the Czech Republic. The IAU decides the official names of all celestial bodies. The tough decision comes after a multi year search for a scientific definition of the word planet. The term never had an official meaning before. What Is a Planet Today? According to the new definition, a full fledged planet is an object that orbits the sun and is large enough to have become round due to the force of its own gravity. In order to understand this debate of what justice is, this essay will analyze different aspects of multicultural public policy, such as recognition and the welfare state in a multicultural society. According to Taylor, the link between identity and recognition is a result of the recognition or misrecognition of a group by other members of society (Cite). One problem that exists within the multicultural society is the way education is taught in schools. One of the major problems that exist within the educational system in a multicultural society is that it acts as a power structure within society (cite). Many times, even in a multicultural society, the education is taught through the perspective of the stronger group , and therefore the minorities are not fully represented. This type of education creates a model of one sided co existence , thus creating many cultural gaps between groups in society and as a result decreases the potentiality of multiculturalism. Bank believes that the current mainstream citizenship type of education prevents the citizens (mostly schoolchildren) to learn about their complex and multilevel identities. He continues and says that it does not include the four main elements of citizenship (civil, political, social and cultural) and as a result does not teach the youth what it means to be a participating citizen. Bank also believes that is crucial for us in a multicultural society to use the transformative citizenship education system, which enables all the citizens and youth to understand their complex identities. This way of teaching will also validate and recognize the culture of the students, and it will open the passageway for civil ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The final decision of which daughter ultimately receives the quilts will be made by Momma Johnson. I will be focusing this paper on the reasons why Maggie should be given the quilts, reasons why Dee should not be allowed to take them, and what this tell us about Alice Walker s sense of what it means to be in touch with one s heritage. Maggie deserves the quilts because she appreciates the practical value of the items and would naturally use them as they were intended. Like her grandmother, Maggie is a person who values the quilts more as a practical solution for staying warm at night than as folk art which should be displayed in a museum. Dee s thoughts of her simple minded sister come into full light during a conversation with Momma when her request for the quilts is denied. Maggie can t appreciate these quilts! She d probably be backward enough to put them the everyday use. I reckon she would, Momma replied, God knows I been saving em long enough with nobody using em. I hope she will. All the workers, for exsample, in an oil refining company have a lot of knowledge, interest and intelligence about the job. These factors lead the workers to be in different camps while working and eventually cause separation due to their different views. The double spiral of conflict contains two ends where the upper end explains some of the values that will bring back the parties together while the other end strains the whole group to a downfall. When the two camps are separated, they will try to create a conflict, and as both do not want to retreat, they see themselves as supposed to fight back (Albrecht 58).
