The Threat Of Network Security
There are threats to network security that can compromise your computer systems. Viruses are one of
the top security threats in the technology industry. A virus is a program or a code that is loaded into
your computer system without your knowledge will run against your wishes (Beal, n.d). Viruses can
also replicate themselves. All computer viruses are manmade and a virus can make a copy of itself
several times and easy to create (Beal, n.d). Mark Vernon wrote that 72% of all companies have
received infected e mails or files last year and for larger companies the percentage was 83% (Vernon,
2004). The top viruses in malignancy are Worms and Trojan Horses (Vernon, 2004). Another threat to
network security is malware. Malware (malicious software) is a annoying or harmful type of software
that is intended to secretly access a device without a user s knowledge. There are different types of
malware, which include spyware, phishing, viruses, adware, Trojan horses, worms, ransomware,
rootkits, and browser hijackers ( What is Malware and how to remove it | Cyber security, n.d.).
Malware gets access to your device through the internet, email, hacked websites, toolbars, music files,
free subscriptions, toolbars and anything downloaded from the web ( What is Malware and how to
remove it | Cyber security, n.d.). Spam is also another threat to network security. Spam is a unsolicited
message that advertises a service or product. Spammers target email accounts but can also be found on

Types Of Decentralization
2.3. Types of Decentralization Decentralization belongs to many types, depending on the
characteristics, policy implications and condition for success. Political, administrative, fiscal and
market decentralization are the fundamental types of decentralization. There are different terms and
words for defining the types of decentralization and there may also have various ways to operate them.
However, the comprehensive approach is more vital than defining. It can be observed that every
country has its own type of functioning decentralization and each local department may have unique
combinations. 2.3.1. Political Decentralization Political decentralization involves the transfer of
decision making power and accountability to local levels. It often involves some form of devolution
the transfer of responsibilities to Local governments that have been granted significant autonomy. In
democratic Decentralization these local governments are accountable to local populations through
Elections and/or other means. In the context of international practice, the political decentralization
aims to give citizens or their elected representatives more power. It may be associated with pluralistic
politics and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It may also take the relatively modest form of de concentration in which officials at lower levels are
given more authority or discretion, but remain accountable totheir chiefs at the center.
Decentralization could also be combined with the devolution ofexecutive authority to local
governments. Delegation is the shifting of functions to semi orwholly independent organizations
outside the core government sector (for example toindependent authorities, or in privatization, to
private firms). The major forms of administrative decentralization are de concentration, devolution

Archetype Mother Goddess In The Hunger Games
Being selfless is a characteristic that few people possess. Being concerned more with the needs of
others is what heroism embodies. The narrative in the movie, The Hunger Games follows Katniss
Everdeen s heroic quest as a tribute in the 74th Hunger Games of Panem. How does Katniss embody
the feminine archetype mother goddess and how does a hero s journey represent Katniss quest as a
tribute in the Hunger Games? What is the feminine archetype mother goddess? An archetype is a
personality type that is generally thought to be the greatest or purest example (Harris). Goddess is the
female version of God. A goddess is the great Mother, she exists in all women, is beautiful even in her
flaws, and she is a woman in touch with her own power to create and destroy (Jones ch. 3). The
archetype mother goddess is actually several archetypes bottled up into one great archetype. The Great
Mother personifies a caretaker, guide, nurturer, protector, and creator (ch. 3). A caretaker is a nurturer,
who can take on the role of looking after another human being, is often protective, loyal, and sacrifice
themselves for the greater good (ch. 3). In addition, caretakers are selfless, empathic, virtuous, true,
incredibly strong and resilient (ch. 3). A creator archetype can give birth to new ideas, concepts, and
things (ch. 3). Katniss demonstrates all of these qualities during her quest as a tribute.
What is a hero and a hero s journey? A hero is an individual who has the courage of conviction to
perform feats that benefit the general populace, acts as a soldier of virtue, and has an altruistic spirit
that urges him or her to act against evil and defend the greater good at all costs, even sacrificing his
own well being or life (Harris 2). Vogler reduced Joseph Campbell s The Hero Journey to 12 Stages of
The Hero s Journey. The following are Vogler s Stages of The Hero s Journey:

2. Call To Adventure 8. Supreme Ordeal
3. Refusal Of TheCall 9. Reward
4. Meeting With The Mentor 10. The Road Back
5. Crossing The 1st Threshold 11. Resurrection
6. Tests, Allies, Enemies 12. Return With Elixir

Three Main Ideas From The Communist Manifesto
Foundations of Sociology essay (Soc 10010)
Describe the three main ideas from the Communist Manifesto.
In this essay I will discuss three of the main ideas from Karl Marx s Communist Manifesto . I have
chosen to look at class struggles, the abolishment of private property and the idea that states look after
the dominant classes in societies. I chose these as I found them to be the three main ideas that stood
out to me most after reading the book. I have delved into each one and shown why I think they are the
three main ideas. I found them to be very interesting ideas which Marx has communicated very well.
Class struggles are a key idea in Marx s Communist Manifesto . Marx opens his Manifesto with the
line The history of all hitherto existing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are never really major reforms to help all, after revolutions. The bourgeoisie, in France, had
been oppressed and after overthrowing the very distinct upper class they now held the power. During
the revolution they campaigned for liberty, equality and fraternity. This did not materialise afterwards
as stated by Marx:
The modern bourgeois society that has sprouted from the ruins of feudal society has not done away
with class antagonisms. It has but established new classes, new conditions of oppression, new forms
of struggle in place of the old ones. Marx (1848, p.74)
Marx proves that even when societies have fought for something like freedom, it does not always last.
The bourgeois brought in capitalism, which brought freedom, but it brought freedom to the bourgeois
and left the other classes behind with very little or nothing. This shows that economics have a massive
hold on where the power in societies

Improve Current Practice Essay
1. How does your project improve a current practice How is this proposed change in practice new or
different from current practice? This study will focus on improving existing communication patterns
between residents and staff through increased awareness. By engaging staff in a collaboration to
understand positive communication, it will provide alternatives for verbal interactions with residents.
This will allow staff to improve their ability to effectively meet the needs of residents through the use
of positive communication patterns. The intent of this study is to help staff develop positive
communication patterns and reduce elderspeak which is based on the work by (Williams, 2001, 2006)
and Williams et al. (2003). This awareness should increase staff use of empowering communication

The African-American Struggle For Freedom
I was watching a PBS documentary on the African American struggle for freedom. The African
American community has been fighting over centuries to not be segregated or discluded based on the
color of their skin. One thing that was particularly concerning was when the narrator started talking
about the attack of Rodney King. Rodney King was heading home from a friends house after watching
a football game there the night before, as he exited onto the freeway a police car started chasing him
King, didn t want to be caught due to the fact he was driving under influence. Once the police
cornered him they forced King and his two companions to exit the car Get out of the car and get on the

A Journalist s Audience Essay
There are many different types of articles: newspaper articles, journal articles, editorial articles,
research articles. Each one of these articles target a different audience. The authors takes into account
who will be reading their article and how much knowledge he or she has on the topic being discussed.
The style of each of these articles depends on the audience. The comprehensibility of a newspaper
article will be much greater than a research journal article written by a scientist. The audience has a
large impact on the style, structure, word choice, credibility and understanding of different articles.
When comparing different articles, a reader must read the articles with an unbiased understanding.

horses. The identification of the speed gene is the first known characterization of a gene contributing
to a specific athletic trait in thoroughbred horses and has the potential to transform decision making
processes in the global bloodstock industry (Science Daily). The summary of both the lab report and
the newspaper article is summed up in this direct quote. The verbiage of this quote is very easy to

The discovery of this athletic gene could change the entire thoroughbred racing community. Trainers

The Genetic Code Essay
In the year of 1920 a theory created by two different scientists was born, Russian Scientist/Chemist
A.I.Oparin and an English Geneticist J.B.S both developed this theory known as The Primordial Soup
Theory . This theory basically states that all life 3.8 3.5 billon years ago came from a tiny puddle filled
with amino acids and elements from Earth s atmosphere. An experiment to test this theory was called
Miller Urey experiment courtesy of scientist Stanley Miller and Harold Urey. In this experiment the
two used electric shocks/charges and were able to birth organic mixtures (compounds).Oparin and
J.B.S both stated that a solution of methane, hydrogen, vapored water, and ammonia could be
conjoined and made into amino acids. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Anyways this RNA world theory claims that RNA is the origin of all living organisms on planet earth.
Even though there is no experiment to back this hypothesis there is however research and claims in
Carl Woese s book by the name of The Genetic Code . RNA is a protein also known as ribonucleic
acid, both RNA and DNA house tons of our (human beings) genetic codes. Seeing that the theory says
that it might not be the exact origin of life on earth it stilled played a part in evolution. Also recent
cells and those that came before it were said to have evolved and bonded with enzyme compound to
make a unit. Enzymes bonded with RNA were stated that they made a system which stored and
created life and evolved. Community Clay Hypothesis states that biological (living) organisms have
ties to being evolved from clay. Hyrdogel clay (water substance clay) was believed to have formed
over billions of years consisting chemicals that were confined and begun to produce biological matter
of dioxyribose nucleic acid (DNA) and forms of proteins. These chemicals were said to have had
evolved and to have made complicated biological structures/materials. Sadly there s no evidence in the
form of experiment to back this claim up but further studies are showing that this theory might have

The Ancient Egypt: Life and Death in the Valley of the Kings documentary features the discovery of
Egyptian artifacts and an archaeological analysis of an ancient Egyptian village located near the Valley
of the Kings. This documentary is composed of two videos. The first video Life shows Egyptologist
Dr. Joanne Fletcher s interpretation of how men and women might have lived in the Egyptian village
based on the artifacts, art work, and writing left behind. This archaeological find is important in

In the documentary, the Egyptologist mentions that Kha was the head architect of the royal tomb
builders because of the tools archaeologists discovered in his tomb. Kha was in charge of building
tombs for the Egyptian pharaohs and he has built his own tomb to prepare himself and his wife when
they die. In the Ancient Egyptian religion, when a person dies, their soul must make a dangerous
journey to the afterlife until the gods make their final judgment on the person s soul. To ensure the
soul s safety in the afterlife, the loved ones of the deceased individual must give offerings to the soul
and to perform the necessary funerary rituals. For example, the documentary explains that when Kha s
wife Meryt died, Kha needed to perform the necessary rituals to ensure his wife s safety in the
afterlife. Kha mummified his wife s remains and used his own coffin to place her remains in the tomb.
Kha also placed his wife s valuables such as her bed and wig next to his wife remains because Kha
believed that his wife s soul needed to use her possessions during her journey in the afterlife. From my
perspective, this documentary showed me another side of Egyptian archaeology. The documentary
showed me examples of how ordinary life was like for the Ancient Egyptians living in the village and
examples of their religious beliefs concerning with the

Artificial intelligence is the utilization of computers to imitate human brains in restricted domains.
This is a consequence of developing computer which carry on logically, reason rationally and can
adequately decipher its surroundings continuously in real time. Artificial Intelligence is no longer a

threat for losing jobs. But individual of society forget that Artificial intelligence will also create lots of
jobs as they will require humans to help maintain the condition of the bots and also to upgrade and fix

Akira Kurosawa s Throne Of Blood
Akira Kurosawa s Throne of Blood weaves together an intricate spider web of ideals, but most
importantly integrates immense culture with the epic story arc of Shakespeare s Macbeth to create
gorgeous cinematography that continues to entertain. Specifically, the spirit scene, which parallels the
witches prophecy in Shakespeare s version, binds together Japanese superstition with brilliant Noh
acting to paint a chilling picture of prophetical notions of greed and power.
One of the most interesting points to take from Throne of Blood is that it evolves not in the traditions
of Elizabethan theatre but purely in a Japanese context (Zambrano 262). Kurosawa himself started as a
painter, not a director. The film style in Throne of Blood seems ... Show more content on

not to admit that they are right. In junction, the acting style radically differs from Shakespeare s
conception of Macbeth, which like most of his works relies more heavily on dialogue to convey these
emotions through the vessel of the actor, rather than overt

lot inspired by the wars of his time period. William Shakespeare used tragic drama and historical

William Shakespeare wrote Julius Caesar based on true events that happened during Roman Empire
era. The play is named Julius Caesar and it s based on true events from the Roman History. Julius
Caesar is somewhat focusing on leadership of Rome. In Julius Caesar, leadership makes people betray
their friends. Julius Caesar also is extremely focusing on the betrayal of Brutus to his friend Julius
Caesar. In Julius Caesar, William Shakespeare uses detail to reveal theme.
Betrayal. One of the themes in Julius Caesar is betrayal between the group that killed Julius Caesar
and Julius Caesar. For example, Julius Caesar speaks this quote to Antony saying Yond Cassius has a
lean and hungry look;/ He thinks too much: such men are dangerous (Shakespeare). This explains how
Julius Caesar thought that Cassius was doing something bad. This was significant because Cassius
started to form a group of conspirators to betray Julius Caesar, and Julius Caesar knew that Cassius
could do something bad against him, he did not do something about it because he thought Cassius was
his friend, and then Cassius created the group of conspirators to betray Julius Caesar. The article
named Julius Caesar wrote A successful political and military leader, Caesar returns to Rome
triumphantly after defeating the forces of Pompey, but his shrewdness and grandiosity earn the enmity
of the prominent nobleman Cassius, who begins plotting against Caesar (Julius Caesar). This quote
explains why and how Cassius wanted to betray Julius Caesar. This is significant because Cassius
made people think that they needed to kill Caesar because Caesar was a dangerous leader for Rome,
and then Cassius convinces people to join to the group of conspirators to

Instagram Is The World s Greatest Picture Sharing Social...
Introduction
Instagram is the world s greatest picture sharing social network. Instagram was created by Kevin
Systrom and Mike Krieger and then sold to Facebook s owner Mark Zuckerburg for $1 billion in cash
and stock. Just in three months Instagram gained one million users. Most apps that are on the top
charts paid tons of money to get there, but the photo sharing app, Instagram, easily sparked its way to
the top without spending a dime (Cutler). Today, Instagram has managed to rack up over 150 million
active monthly users, while also averaging around 40 million pictures that are shared on Instagram
(Patkar). Although Instagram is incredible in its accomplishments and is now worth about 35 billion
dollars, there are some policies that the average user would like to change about the app. When
analyzing the popular app, the sharing of user s photos to third parties, the inactive username policy,
and the usage of device identifiers have played a major role in the lost of many Instagram users in the
past few years.
Background/Issues
Although the issue regarding Instagram selling its users photos to third parties happened two years
ago, this was one of Instagram s biggest issues since its establishment. According to the CNET article
on cnet.com, Declan McCullagh wrote, Instagram said today that it has the perpetual right to sell users
photographs without payment or notification, a dramatic policy shift that quickly sparked a public
outcry. Under the new policy, Facebook

Organic Foods Vs Organic Food
As the world continues to embrace health and fitness living and as the levels of environmental
awareness increase, so does the popularity of organic foods continue to skyrocket. According to a
recent survey conducted by a renowned body in the United States, more than forty percent of the US
consumers are now taking the organic foods path over the inorganic, and it seems that this new wave
is not going away anytime soon. According to most of the users, organic food is much tastier, safer,
helps to prevent environmental exploitation and on top of it all boasts more nutritional value than
inorganic food (Thøgersen 172). However, there is no difference in dietary levels between organic and
inorganic food, and this discussion examines what sets these two categories apart and why their
nutritional levels are the same.
Organic food is any product produced by a farming system which does not incorporate the use of
human made fertilizers and pesticides, livestock feed additives or growth regulators. According to
Cooper, Leifert, and Ursula (45), organic food uses natural methods of agriculture which aim at giving
a product which is environmentally friendly, economically viable and also socially healthy. For
instance below are some of the practices which organic farmers engage in to ensure that they meet this
objective (Harper and Aikaterini 290). Rather than use human made fertilizers, the organic food
farmers use plant and animal manure to increase the soil quality. For example,

Many jobs exist within the broadcasting field. Some of these jobs include: news anchors, cameramen,
production specialists, journalists, and writers. Also, all of these jobs exist in news agencies,
regardless of the size. Furthermore, the military has its own public affairs section within each branch.
Essentially, the military equivalent completes the same tasks, but reports on different types of stories.
All in all, the civilian component focuses on the widespread news. Examples of widespread news are:
presidential elections, crimes, weather, or other important community events. These stories revolve
around the safety, or educating the general public on current events. On the other hand, the military

The mission statement for combat camera follows:
The mission of COMCAM is to provide the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD), the Chairman
of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (CJCS), the Military Departments (MILDEPs), the combatant commands,
and the joint task forces (JTFs) with a directed imagery capability in support of operational and
planning requirements during wartime operations, worldwide crises, contingencies, and joint
exercises.
Overall, the mission is relatively simple: gather footage of combat situations on the group and present
the footage to various levels of command. The footage will then be analyzed to determine combat
effectiveness, situational status in the area, and provide historical documentation of wars the United
States is involved in. Furthermore, the footage can be used on a strategic level for planning. All in all,
the COMCAM mission is vital to the success of the U.S. troops. Also, footage taken from Haiti or
other areas destroyed by natural disasters are recorded by combat camera. Then, this footage is shown
on the news networks, which contributes to a better understanding of the situation. Aside from the
mission, combat cameramen have contributed historical documentation as well. In fact, most of the
war footage from World War I, World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan was recorded by
COMCAM. For example, the flag raising at Iwo Jima was recorded by a combat cameraman. This
footage is a landmark in the history of the United States and it shown often in history books or on T.V.

conventional reporters, combat cameramen can retrieve footage for use on T.V., planning, or historical

The Challenges Of Poverty In Upton Sinclair s The Jungle
Upton Sinclair s The Jungle was published in 1906 and was an eye opening revelation of the
workingman s experience in the Chicago stockyards. Sinclair describes the horrible work conditions
the workers endured and the unsanitary ways in which the meat was made and processed. Sinclair uses
an immigrant family from Lithuania to help bring attention to the hardships and unfairness that the
working class had to go through.
One of the main problems that Sinclair makes evident in Packingtown is poverty. The family in The
Jungle gets paid very low wages and many times, they barely have enough money to buy food. When
Jurgis, whose wages the family depended on most, was in jail, little Stanislovas visited him and told
him Ona is very sick...and we are almost starving and ...I only had a piece of bread for breakfast,
Jurgis (Sinclair, 142). With the low wages, it was also very hard to buy other essential things. During
the winter, the men would tie up their feet in newspapers (Sinclair, 67) because they couldn t afford
buying warmer shoes and at home, the family would sleep with all their clothes on...and put over them
all the bedding and spare clothing they owned (Sinclair, 69). The low wages weren t the only problem.
It was also very hard to find work. All day long the gates of the packing houses were besieged by
starving and penniless men; they came, literally, by the thousands every single morning (Sinclair, 66).
Later on in the book, Sinclair declares that the unemployment number reaches a million or two of men
who had been out of work in the spring and summer (Sinclair, 235). Without the low wages from a
job, it was almost impossible for a workingman, not to mention an entire family, to get by.
Another problem mentioned by Sinclair is the dangerous working conditions in the slaughterhouses,
The work in the slaughterhouses had to be done at a fast rate. In the beginning of the book, Jurgis
often marveled at their [the men on the killing beds] speed and power as if they had been wonderful
machines (Sinclair 47). The pressure to do the work fast led to many accidents. Of the butchers and
floorsmen...and all those who used knives, you could scarcely find a person who has the use of his
thumb (Sinclair, 82).

Hillary Clinton Womanhood
Hillary Clinton claimed that However different we may be, there is far more that unites us than divides
us. We share a common future. The claim would seem truthful from a white, upper class female
perspective, but Clinton fails to see the sheer power differences have for the courses of women s lives.
Womanhood is not the only identifying feature of women as our different socioeconomic
environments affect our lives in usually greater ways. In their articles on intersectionality, Andrea
Smith and Lynne Haney refute Clinton s claim by their focus on the incredulity of a common
womanhood overcoming the powerful socioeconomic differences between women, as well as the
harmful effects of overlooking these variances within popular discourse.

Schick Razor Commercials Advantages And Disadvantages
Per current societal norms, all people are expected to shave at least one part of their body. Your
perceived gender determines how much one is expected to shave; for example, women are expected to
remove more hair than men are. Many companies take advantage of this norm, but the leading
enforcer of the rule is razor companies. Schick razor commercials are no exception. The company
produces razors and advertisements for the gender specific razors for men or women, and their
commercials are noticeably different depending on their target audience.
In different commercial targeted to women created by Schick, all the women were shown to be doing
different tasks. The first commercial picture a pink razor robot battling a jungle to refuel its hydrating
gel pockets, and shortly after transforms back to a razor ready to serve its owner by shaving her leg on
the side of a bathtub. This commercial entertaining, but was also based on the theory that all women
should be viewed as independent, yet girly at the same. The second commercial showed very thin
women standing in front of small bushes that were supposed to represent their own pubic hair. Two
women were given rusty scissors, and one was given a special Schick trimmer. After completing their
task, the Schick bush ended in the shape of a heart, and the remaining women glared enviously at the
clean cut bush. Again, this is based in the fact that women must be clean shaven no matter where the
area is. Finally, in commercial three, a girlfriend is pictured rushing around her apartment while trying
to clean and shave at the same time to prepare for the introduction of her boyfriend s mother. Once
more, the razor company shows how women are expected to be fully shaved for important events. Of
the tree, all the commercials were pictured in bright colors with girls conforming to the expectation
that all their natural body hair must be kept under wraps, if no completely removed.
The men s commercials were an entirely different scenario. The first men s commercial pictured a boy
in a laundromat who started to flirt with the only girl there, who started a laundry fight with him. The
shirt turned to water when it hit the boy to symbolize the hydration that the razor brought

In this way , in actual life, there are often conflicts and struggles between goodness and evil in human
nature. So Christianity stresses that human beings should believe in God, and depend on God s power
to ensure tending towards goodness, and entering the paradise after their death.

that all things are naturally formed from causes and condition (Hetupratyaya), man is also the

Tort reform has intense arguments to both sides and creates a myriad of concerns. On one side of the
tort reform movement, defendants such as corporations and medical professionals want limits on the
damages awarded to the plaintiff. The benefit of tort reform for defendant is the financial savings.
However, a cap placed on medical malpractice cases and other cases that are of negligence would
standardize the monetary compensation regardless of the damage. In my opinion, Medical malpractice
tort reform is a gray area, for each breach of the standard of care involves a different story and person,
therefore the damages vary and should be evaluated fairly. In this essay, both sides of the argument are
discussed, with a focus on medical malpractice tort reform. Proof of Malpractice For a plaintiff to
triumph a claim of medical malpractice for negligence, four elements must be established. The first
element is proving the defendant owed a duty of care to the plaintiff. The second is to show that the
defendant breached the duty to the plaintiff. The third is to show that the plaintiff was harmed and
experienced damages. Finally, the fourth is to show that the plaintiff was harmed by the actions of the
defendant (Greenberg, 2009). How does medical malpractice differ from a standard negligence claim?
Medical malpractice differs from a standards negligence claim and some states have different
definitions. There are two primary formulations for the legal standard of

Although sports may be a distraction it ll make kids work harder and strive for the necessary GPA to
play. I m all for sports in secondary schools it ll give kids motivated to do better in school.
Many schools require that kids have at least have 2.0 to play any sports. That will make kids who
really have a passion for sports to strive for that GPA. The current GPA of a 2.0 is an acceptable
standard because it s is mid range. Also, sports have other benefits. Sports Boost School spirit and

The World Of The Third World
The Third World as a political project emerged out of Cold War rhetoric. It referred to a group of non
aligned countries that claimed to operate separately from the influences of the great powers. The
movement represented the emergence of the Third World as a self conscious political grouping.
Solidarity was predicated upon common economic structures that were distinctive from both the
Eastern block planned economies and the Western free market system (Smith, n.d: 17). The Third
World as a political project was intrinsically linked to decolonization. Developing nations were
encouraged to stand against Western intervention and involvement in the economic affairs of the Third
World (Smith, n.d: 17). In addition, the project aimed to establish a new international economic order
in which developing countries would have greater control over their own natural resources (Smith,
n.d: 18). It also called for more cooperation in the third world in order to lessen their dependence on
leading institutional forums. As one of the most influential proponents of the Third World Project,
Jawaharlal Nehru specifically worked to promote ideas of global interconnectedness, world peace and
non alignment. Yet despite efforts to uplift the Third World from its peripheral status, evidence of
Western superiority discourse was still present in the language used by Nehru and other elites.
Furthermore, while elites championed Third World principles in word, they generally remained tied to

Beowulf s Heroic Code
Beowulf remains one of the most important works of English literature though it was written centuries
ago. One reason for this fact is that many of the themes that it touches on are still pertinent in today s
extremely different society. One of the most prevalent themes found in Beowulf is the importance of
the heroic code. Much of this epic poem is dedicated to conveying and exemplifying the heroic code
which values such attributes as strength, courage and honor. Conflicting with this ideology are other
factors such as Christianity, and these tensions affect the lives and decisions of the narrative s
characters. Over the course of the poem, Beowulf matures from a gallant warrior into a wise leader.
This transition illustrates that a sometimes conflicting code of values goes along with each of his roles.
In Germanic societies, such as the one in which Beowulf takes place, there were heroic codes which
defined how a noble person should act. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the beginning he is a brave fighter, but by the end, he has become a wise and noble king. This
transition shows that perhaps a different code is necessary to fulfill these different roles. These sets of
values illustrate early on in the poem the contrary outlooks of Beowulf and Hrothgar. Early in the
poem, Beowulf is young, brave and has no one to worry about but himself. Because of this he can risk
everything in his quest for personal glory. Hrothgar, on the other hand, is responsible for the lives of
many people, and therefore seeks their safety rather than his own honor. Hrothgar s example becomes
invaluable to Beowulf in preparation for the time when he will take the throne. He learns that as a
king, it is his duty to praise his warriors as well as protect his people. Hrothgar emphasizes the
importance of creating a stable environment. He also says that having good relationships with one s
own men, as well as with other groups, is

Sexual Assault And Sexual Harassment
Women in combat is a sensitive topic throughout the Armed Forces. Although in January 2013 the
Military made the decision to end the ban on women in combat, many still oppose this decision. Many
Combat jobs have very strict requirements, such as physical abilities. There are many concerns of
women being able to fulfill these types of requirements. Another big concern is the risk of sexual
assault and sexual harassment, many people feel that women in combat jobs are at a higher risk of
being subjected to these types of things. The safety of our soldiers whether male or female is a big
concern for everybody, no matter their position on this particular topic. Women are thought to be
sensitive creatures, the worry of their sensitive nature in a combat zone might hinder the mission.
Completing the mission is and will always be a major requirement. If a question of mental and
physical ability can be proven to complete the job requirements, should this still be an issue? The
possibilities of sexual harassment and assault are very serious. Unfortunately, this is an issue whether
in the military or not. Sexual crimes happening in college are a serious issue, as a society we cannot
tell women not to go to college because there is a greater possibility of being sexually assaulted or
harassed. If a person has all credentials, and qualifications to perform a job, they should be allowed to
regardless of gender, and safety concerns should enforce preventive measures so that all

Police Policing And Community Policing
Community Policing How effective is community policing? Community policing has several different
definitions. In this paper I will prove that community policing is effective by defining, community
policing as the police and citizens coming together to create a safe community, stop crime and resolve
problems and also urgently responding to the community. Throughout many years, the people s view
of community policing have remained the same. There are some valid causes as to why law
enforcement leaders consider that it is time to change the way policing labors so that they are
effectively helping the community. The way that community policing was trained in the past is not
necessarily efficient in today s society. For example, catastrophes in our communities continue to
increase the need for security, citizens loose the feeling of protection and wellbeing, and this can be
fixed by presenting advanced policing strategies. Law enforcement leaders are beginning to recognize
that they must accept the responsibility for the safety of their communities. Community policing is as
a law enforcement tactic enforced to progress a stronger connection between the police and the
community. The fundamental idea following community policing is that the community should be
willingly involved with law enforcement leaders to help resolve problems. While that may seem
exceptionally simple, law enforcement leaders should acknowledge that the community should be
involved in the

An Systematic Norms Of A Young Age
From a young age, society classifies us in order to keep our civilization organized and to avoid chaos.
However, ambiguity can be necessary at times to question the systematic norms. Gender is a system
that categorizes males and females based on their physical appearance, tone of voice, and personality.
However, these strict gender roles created by society exclude those who defy classification, such as
individuals who are non gender binary or gender fluid.
Gender is a cultural construct, completely unrelated to one s sex assigned at birth. Nevertheless, in
American culture one is assigned a specific gender the minute they are born. When we enter the
world, the doctor immediately exclaims: it s a boy! or it s a girl! and the baby is ... Show more content

Even the sign on the bathroom door is of a woman wearing a dress, which presumes that all women
wear dresses or that everyone who wears a dress is a woman. This limited designation fails to include
others who may not fit the traditional stereotype, including men who self identify as biologically male,
but prefer wearing female attire, or individuals who are born biologically male but might identify as
women. Nor does this description take into consideration women who were born biologically female,
but identify as male, or women who may dress more masculine but consider themselves female.
We are constantly being bombarded by the social constructs of gender. In advertisements women are
portrayed as beautiful, fragile and dainty, where as men are seen as powerful, strong and masculine.
These subliminal messages, along with the more blatant ones from peers, teachers, media, and parents,
serve to reinforce gender stereotypes, roles and labels. In addition, they further alienate those who do
not conform to these norms.
There are two opposite ends of the spectrum, male and female, but non gender binary and gender fluid
people do not fit neatly into these two categories. Unlike cisgenders, who identify with the gender
they were assigned at birth, non gender binary individuals do not identify with a specific gender. More

St. Louis Catholic School
When driving past the modest copper bricked building topped with a bulky black roof, one might only
see it as just a school for children; however, there is so much more to it than what meets the eye. The
large black cross that clings to the front entrance wall suggests to its visitants the school s religious
affiliation which is further evidenced by the name St. Louis in slate black lettering on the wall parallel
to it. St. Louis Catholic School was established in 1964 in Princeton, Illinois as a pre school through
eighth grade elementary school and is still today. It remains the only Catholic elementary school in
Bureau Country, making it unique to the area. Although the class sizes tend to be small with regards to
the quantity of students, the many experiences that the school provides including the encouragement
of creativity, providing a friendly and comfortable classroom environment and the stress on the
formation of a loving community live with the students for the majority of their lives. St. Louis, as a
school, provides children with the opportunity to be as imaginative as they can possibly be. This
imaginative spirit is observed by the effulgently colorful pictures created by the fictive minds of the
students, starring center stage on the windows that wrapped themselves tightly around the school like
a bow on a package. Next to the building lies a lengthy plot of land. On it resides a flamboyantly
colored playground set which lures adventurous children in to

Professional Organizations Were Created To Assist In The
Professional organizations were created to assist in the growth and development of a profession
(Black, 2014). For example, nurses use organizations to improve health and working conditions that
result in changing the way health is delivered to a population (Black, 2014). These organizations allow
individuals to express their opinions on current issues, enhance their knowledge of the profession, and
facilitate relationships with other individuals that share the same interest and concerns. To get a better
understanding of these groups, I explored the American Psychiatric Nurses Association (APNA)

to help individuals and their loved ones understand the prevention, diagnosis, and recovery of
psychiatric patients, by being recognized as the expert voice for psychiatric mental health nursing
(American Psychiatric Nurses Association, 2015). The APNA organization started with 600 members
and has now grown to nearly 10,000 members that are interested in or apart of the mental health
nursing practice (American Psychiatric Nurses Association, 2015). While looking though the website,
I could not found a specific breakdown of the number of members, but the site did stated, APNA
supports and serves the interests of psychiatric mental health nurses both nationally and internationally
(American Psychiatric Nurses Association, 2015). Members of this association are automatically
assigned to their state s chapter (American Psychiatric Nurses Association, 2015). Virginia s chapter
page has very little information compared to other state chapters, but from the information I gathered,
this chapter is not local active in the Hampton Roads Community. This organization puts lots of

Tracing Narrative Threads in Life of Pi Essay examples
Tracing Narrative Threads 1) Father s admonitions to stay away from the tiger in the zoo.
During this part of the novel, Pi s father is teaching him a lesson by letting a tiger brutally kill a goat
right in front of him. He is trying to teach Pi to not go near an animal such as tigers because they are
incredibly dangerous. I believe this thread represents the foreshadowing of what is to come for Pi.
When Pi and Ravi s father was telling them about staying away from tigers he said Tigers are very
dangerous. I want you to understand that you are never under any circumstances to touch a tiger, to pet
a tiger, to put your hands through the bars of a cage, even to get close to a cage. Is that clear? (37) This
evidence indicates that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The name Pi is also symbolic because as Pi stated: I was named after a swimming pool (8) The word
Piscine in French translate to swimming pool in English. The significance of his name is because he
spends 227 days in a huge swimming pool (the ocean) fighting for his life.
The thread develops during the novel because as the novel goes on and he s stuck on the lifeboat, Pi
starts to question who Pi really is. When he starts questioning who he is, he finds it hard to learn who
he truly wants to be. The message the author is trying to get across is be true to yourself. 3) Young Pi s
dedication to three religions
As explained in the book, Pi follows three different religions; Hinduism, Islam, and Christianity. Pi is
extremely interested in all three religions and tries to find himself through religion. Although, he does
not understand why he can t follow all three religions. But he can t be a Hindu, a Christian and a
Muslim. It s impossible. He must choose. (76) This thread represents that he dedicates himself to the
things he believes in and will fight for what he believes in. Even when his family disagreed with his
decision of following all three religions, he still fought for what he believed.
This thread develops during the novel because while he is on the lifeboat Pi starts questioning who
truly he is and wants to be. The young boy who was once dedicated to vegetarianism, which was
rooted in his religion, must make a life changing decision.

The Common Causes Of Weight Loss
One of the most common causes of weight loss is diabetes, this can range from a couple of pounds to
two three stone. Weight loss is usually due to the increased metabolism and breakdown of muscle and
fat due to insulin deficiency. Fluid depletion can also cause weight loss from both Polydipsia and
Polyuria. When an individual presents with these features it is important for them to be picked up
quickly otherwise Ketoacidosis can occur which may be fatal. Ketones are made up of acetone and
two organic acids beta hydroxybutyric acid and acetoacetic acid. The liver and other cells can only
process limited amounts of fatty acids, lipids and ketones at any given time, any excess of keytones is
then secreted into the blood causing ketoacidosis. The binding of ketoacids and bicarbonate buffers
within the blood, leading to an eventual decrease of PH in the blood due to decreased levels of serum
bicarbonate (Gould and Dyer, 2011: 551). As dehydration occurs within the kidneys the demand on
glomerular filtration decreases and so to does the excretion of acids leading to decompensated
metabolic acidosis. Diabetic ketoacidosis or hyperosmolar coma are mostly due to the
hyperosmolarity of the blood, secondary to hyperglycemia and the result of this can be fatal if not
treated within a short period of time Less obvious presentation includes tiredness and weakness which
is very common in uncontrolled diabetes. Alongside these presenting features comes visual blurring
and fungal

  • 2. The Threat Of Network Security There are threats to network security that can compromise your computer systems. Viruses are one of the top security threats in the technology industry. A virus is a program or a code that is loaded into your computer system without your knowledge will run against your wishes (Beal, n.d). Viruses can also replicate themselves. All computer viruses are manmade and a virus can make a copy of itself several times and easy to create (Beal, n.d). Mark Vernon wrote that 72% of all companies have received infected e mails or files last year and for larger companies the percentage was 83% (Vernon, 2004). The top viruses in malignancy are Worms and Trojan Horses (Vernon, 2004). Another threat to network security is malware. Malware (malicious software) is a annoying or harmful type of software that is intended to secretly access a device without a user s knowledge. There are different types of malware, which include spyware, phishing, viruses, adware, Trojan horses, worms, ransomware, rootkits, and browser hijackers ( What is Malware and how to remove it | Cyber security, n.d.). Malware gets access to your device through the internet, email, hacked websites, toolbars, music files, free subscriptions, toolbars and anything downloaded from the web ( What is Malware and how to remove it | Cyber security, n.d.). Spam is also another threat to network security. Spam is a unsolicited message that advertises a service or product. Spammers target email accounts but can also be found on ... • 3. Types Of Decentralization 2.3. Types of Decentralization Decentralization belongs to many types, depending on the characteristics, policy implications and condition for success. Political, administrative, fiscal and market decentralization are the fundamental types of decentralization. There are different terms and words for defining the types of decentralization and there may also have various ways to operate them. However, the comprehensive approach is more vital than defining. It can be observed that every country has its own type of functioning decentralization and each local department may have unique combinations. 2.3.1. Political Decentralization Political decentralization involves the transfer of decision making power and accountability to local levels. It often involves some form of devolution the transfer of responsibilities to Local governments that have been granted significant autonomy. In democratic Decentralization these local governments are accountable to local populations through Elections and/or other means. In the context of international practice, the political decentralization aims to give citizens or their elected representatives more power. It may be associated with pluralistic politics and ... • 4. Archetype Mother Goddess In The Hunger Games Being selfless is a characteristic that few people possess. Being concerned more with the needs of others is what heroism embodies. The narrative in the movie, The Hunger Games follows Katniss Everdeen s heroic quest as a tribute in the 74th Hunger Games of Panem. How does Katniss embody the feminine archetype mother goddess and how does a hero s journey represent Katniss quest as a tribute in the Hunger Games? What is the feminine archetype mother goddess? An archetype is a personality type that is generally thought to be the greatest or purest example (Harris). Goddess is the female version of God. A goddess is the great Mother, she exists in all women, is beautiful even in her flaws, and she is a woman in touch with her own power to create and destroy (Jones ch. 3). The archetype mother goddess is actually several archetypes bottled up into one great archetype. The Great Mother personifies a caretaker, guide, nurturer, protector, and creator (ch. 3). A caretaker is a nurturer, who can take on the role of looking after another human being, is often protective, loyal, and sacrifice themselves for the greater good (ch. 3). In addition, caretakers are selfless, empathic, virtuous, true, incredibly strong and resilient (ch. 3). A creator archetype can give birth to new ideas, concepts, and things (ch. 3). Katniss demonstrates all of these qualities during her quest as a tribute. What is a hero and a hero s journey? A hero is an individual who has the courage of conviction to perform feats that benefit the general populace, acts as a soldier of virtue, and has an altruistic spirit that urges him or her to act against evil and defend the greater good at all costs, even sacrificing his own well being or life (Harris 2). Vogler reduced Joseph Campbell s The Hero Journey to 12 Stages of The Hero s Journey. The following are Vogler s Stages of The Hero s Journey: 1. OrdinaryWorld 7. Approach 2. Call To Adventure 8. Supreme Ordeal 3. Refusal Of TheCall 9. Reward 4. Meeting With The Mentor 10. The Road Back 5. Crossing The 1st Threshold 11. Resurrection 6. Tests, Allies, Enemies 12. • 5. Three Main Ideas From The Communist Manifesto Foundations of Sociology essay (Soc 10010) Describe the three main ideas from the Communist Manifesto. In this essay I will discuss three of the main ideas from Karl Marx s Communist Manifesto . I have chosen to look at class struggles, the abolishment of private property and the idea that states look after the dominant classes in societies. I chose these as I found them to be the three main ideas that stood out to me most after reading the book. I have delved into each one and shown why I think they are the three main ideas. I found them to be very interesting ideas which Marx has communicated very well. Class struggles are a key idea in Marx s Communist Manifesto . Marx opens his Manifesto with the line The history of all hitherto existing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are never really major reforms to help all, after revolutions. The bourgeoisie, in France, had been oppressed and after overthrowing the very distinct upper class they now held the power. During the revolution they campaigned for liberty, equality and fraternity. This did not materialise afterwards as stated by Marx: The modern bourgeois society that has sprouted from the ruins of feudal society has not done away with class antagonisms. It has but established new classes, new conditions of oppression, new forms of struggle in place of the old ones. Marx (1848, p.74) Marx proves that even when societies have fought for something like freedom, it does not always last. The bourgeois brought in capitalism, which brought freedom, but it brought freedom to the bourgeois and left the other classes behind with very little or nothing. This shows that economics have a massive hold on where the power in societies ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the Ancient Egyptian religion, when a person dies, their soul must make a dangerous journey to the afterlife until the gods make their final judgment on the person s soul. To ensure the soul s safety in the afterlife, the loved ones of the deceased individual must give offerings to the soul and to perform the necessary funerary rituals. Kha mummified his wife s remains and used his own coffin to place her remains in the tomb. • 17. The Challenges Of Poverty In Upton Sinclair s The Jungle Upton Sinclair s The Jungle was published in 1906 and was an eye opening revelation of the workingman s experience in the Chicago stockyards. Sinclair describes the horrible work conditions the workers endured and the unsanitary ways in which the meat was made and processed. Sinclair uses an immigrant family from Lithuania to help bring attention to the hardships and unfairness that the working class had to go through. One of the main problems that Sinclair makes evident in Packingtown is poverty. The family in The Jungle gets paid very low wages and many times, they barely have enough money to buy food. When Jurgis, whose wages the family depended on most, was in jail, little Stanislovas visited him and told him Ona is very sick...and we are almost starving and ...I only had a piece of bread for breakfast, Jurgis (Sinclair, 142). With the low wages, it was also very hard to buy other essential things. During the winter, the men would tie up their feet in newspapers (Sinclair, 67) because they couldn t afford buying warmer shoes and at home, the family would sleep with all their clothes on...and put over them all the bedding and spare clothing they owned (Sinclair, 69). The low wages weren t the only problem. It was also very hard to find work. All day long the gates of the packing houses were besieged by starving and penniless men; they came, literally, by the thousands every single morning (Sinclair, 66). Later on in the book, Sinclair declares that the unemployment number reaches a million or two of men who had been out of work in the spring and summer (Sinclair, 235). Without the low wages from a job, it was almost impossible for a workingman, not to mention an entire family, to get by. Another problem mentioned by Sinclair is the dangerous working conditions in the slaughterhouses, The work in the slaughterhouses had to be done at a fast rate. In the beginning of the book, Jurgis often marveled at their [the men on the killing beds] speed and power as if they had been wonderful machines (Sinclair 47). Your perceived gender determines how much one is expected to shave; for example, women are expected to remove more hair than men are. Many companies take advantage of this norm, but the leading enforcer of the rule is razor companies. Schick razor commercials are no exception. The company produces razors and advertisements for the gender specific razors for men or women, and their commercials are noticeably different depending on their target audience. In different commercial targeted to women created by Schick, all the women were shown to be doing different tasks. The first commercial picture a pink razor robot battling a jungle to refuel its hydrating gel pockets, and shortly after transforms back to a razor ready to serve its owner by shaving her leg on the side of a bathtub. This commercial entertaining, but was also based on the theory that all women should be viewed as independent, yet girly at the same. The second commercial showed very thin women standing in front of small bushes that were supposed to represent their own pubic hair. Two women were given rusty scissors, and one was given a special Schick trimmer. After completing their task, the Schick bush ended in the shape of a heart, and the remaining women glared enviously at the clean cut bush. Again, this is based in the fact that women must be clean shaven no matter where the area is. Finally, in commercial three, a girlfriend is pictured rushing around her apartment while trying to clean and shave at the same time to prepare for the introduction of her boyfriend s mother. Once more, the razor company shows how women are expected to be fully shaved for important events. Of the tree, all the commercials were pictured in bright colors with girls conforming to the expectation that all their natural body hair must be kept under wraps, if no completely removed. On one side of the tort reform movement, defendants such as corporations and medical professionals want limits on the damages awarded to the plaintiff. The benefit of tort reform for defendant is the financial savings. However, a cap placed on medical malpractice cases and other cases that are of negligence would standardize the monetary compensation regardless of the damage. In my opinion, Medical malpractice tort reform is a gray area, for each breach of the standard of care involves a different story and person, therefore the damages vary and should be evaluated fairly. In this essay, both sides of the argument are discussed, with a focus on medical malpractice tort reform. Proof of Malpractice For a plaintiff to triumph a claim of medical malpractice for negligence, four elements must be established. The first element is proving the defendant owed a duty of care to the plaintiff. The second is to show that the defendant breached the duty to the plaintiff. The third is to show that the plaintiff was harmed and experienced damages. Finally, the fourth is to show that the plaintiff was harmed by the actions of the defendant (Greenberg, 2009). It referred to a group of non aligned countries that claimed to operate separately from the influences of the great powers. The movement represented the emergence of the Third World as a self conscious political grouping. Solidarity was predicated upon common economic structures that were distinctive from both the Eastern block planned economies and the Western free market system (Smith, n.d: 17). One reason for this fact is that many of the themes that it touches on are still pertinent in today s extremely different society. Much of this epic poem is dedicated to conveying and exemplifying the heroic code which values such attributes as strength, courage and honor. Conflicting with this ideology are other factors such as Christianity, and these tensions affect the lives and decisions of the narrative s characters. Over the course of the poem, Beowulf matures from a gallant warrior into a wise leader. This transition illustrates that a sometimes conflicting code of values goes along with each of his roles. In this paper I will prove that community policing is effective by defining, community policing as the police and citizens coming together to create a safe community, stop crime and resolve problems and also urgently responding to the community. Throughout many years, the people s view of community policing have remained the same. There are some valid causes as to why law enforcement leaders consider that it is time to change the way policing labors so that they are effectively helping the community. The way that community policing was trained in the past is not necessarily efficient in today s society. For example, catastrophes in our communities continue to increase the need for security, citizens loose the feeling of protection and wellbeing, and this can be fixed by presenting advanced policing strategies. Law enforcement leaders are beginning to recognize that they must accept the responsibility for the safety of their communities. Community policing is as a law enforcement tactic enforced to progress a stronger connection between the police and the community. • 31. St. Louis Catholic School When driving past the modest copper bricked building topped with a bulky black roof, one might only see it as just a school for children; however, there is so much more to it than what meets the eye. The large black cross that clings to the front entrance wall suggests to its visitants the school s religious affiliation which is further evidenced by the name St. Louis in slate black lettering on the wall parallel to it. St. Louis Catholic School was established in 1964 in Princeton, Illinois as a pre school through eighth grade elementary school and is still today. It remains the only Catholic elementary school in Bureau Country, making it unique to the area. Although the class sizes tend to be small with regards to the quantity of students, the many experiences that the school provides including the encouragement of creativity, providing a friendly and comfortable classroom environment and the stress on the formation of a loving community live with the students for the majority of their lives. St. Louis, as a school, provides children with the opportunity to be as imaginative as they can possibly be. This imaginative spirit is observed by the effulgently colorful pictures created by the fictive minds of the students, starring center stage on the windows that wrapped themselves tightly around the school like a bow on a package. Next to the building lies a lengthy plot of land. On it resides a flamboyantly colored playground set which lures adventurous children in to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Professional Organizations Were Created To Assist In The Professional organizations were created to assist in the growth and development of a profession (Black, 2014). For example, nurses use organizations to improve health and working conditions that result in changing the way health is delivered to a population (Black, 2014). These organizations allow individuals to express their opinions on current issues, enhance their knowledge of the profession, and facilitate relationships with other individuals that share the same interest and concerns. To get a better understanding of these groups, I explored the American Psychiatric Nurses Association (APNA) website to see what information I could collection. After reading through the APNA s website I would have to say I agree with the APNA s goal, which is to help individuals and their loved ones understand the prevention, diagnosis, and recovery of psychiatric patients, by being recognized as the expert voice for psychiatric mental health nursing (American Psychiatric Nurses Association, 2015). The APNA organization started with 600 members and has now grown to nearly 10,000 members that are interested in or apart of the mental health nursing practice (American Psychiatric Nurses Association, 2015). While looking though the website, I could not found a specific breakdown of the number of members, but the site did stated, APNA supports and serves the interests of psychiatric mental health nurses both nationally and internationally (American Psychiatric Nurses Association, 2015). Members of this association are automatically assigned to their state s chapter (American Psychiatric Nurses Association, 2015). Virginia s chapter page has very little information compared to other state chapters, but from the information I gathered, this chapter is not local active in the Hampton Roads Community. This organization puts lots of energy into advancing research to improve the techniques of identifying mental health issues (American Psychiatric Nurses Association, 2015). With earlier detection, psychiatric nurse clinicians will be able to promote the proper health and wellness to those on the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 34. Tracing Narrative Threads in Life of Pi Essay examples Tracing Narrative Threads 1) Father s admonitions to stay away from the tiger in the zoo. During this part of the novel, Pi s father is teaching him a lesson by letting a tiger brutally kill a goat right in front of him. He is trying to teach Pi to not go near an animal such as tigers because they are incredibly dangerous. I believe this thread represents the foreshadowing of what is to come for Pi. When Pi and Ravi s father was telling them about staying away from tigers he said Tigers are very dangerous. I want you to understand that you are never under any circumstances to touch a tiger, to pet a tiger, to put your hands through the bars of a cage, even to get close to a cage. Is that clear? The significance of his name is because he spends 227 days in a huge swimming pool (the ocean) fighting for his life. The thread develops during the novel because as the novel goes on and he s stuck on the lifeboat, Pi starts to question who Pi really is. When he starts questioning who he is, he finds it hard to learn who he truly wants to be. The message the author is trying to get across is be true to yourself. 3) Young Pi s dedication to three religions As explained in the book, Pi follows three different religions; Hinduism, Islam, and Christianity. Pi is extremely interested in all three religions and tries to find himself through religion. Although, he does not understand why he can t follow all three religions. But he can t be a Hindu, a Christian and a Muslim. It s impossible. He must choose. (76) This thread represents that he dedicates himself to the things he believes in and will fight for what he believes in. Even when his family disagreed with his decision of following all three religions, he still fought for what he believed. This thread develops during the novel because while he is on the lifeboat Pi starts questioning who truly he is and wants to be. • 38. The Common Causes Of Weight Loss One of the most common causes of weight loss is diabetes, this can range from a couple of pounds to two three stone. Weight loss is usually due to the increased metabolism and breakdown of muscle and fat due to insulin deficiency. Fluid depletion can also cause weight loss from both Polydipsia and Polyuria. When an individual presents with these features it is important for them to be picked up quickly otherwise Ketoacidosis can occur which may be fatal. Ketones are made up of acetone and two organic acids beta hydroxybutyric acid and acetoacetic acid. The liver and other cells can only process limited amounts of fatty acids, lipids and ketones at any given time, any excess of keytones is then secreted into the blood causing ketoacidosis. The binding of ketoacids and bicarbonate buffers within the blood, leading to an eventual decrease of PH in the blood due to decreased levels of serum bicarbonate (Gould and Dyer, 2011: 551). As dehydration occurs within the kidneys the demand on glomerular filtration decreases and so to does the excretion of acids leading to decompensated metabolic acidosis. Diabetic ketoacidosis or hyperosmolar coma are mostly due to the hyperosmolarity of the blood, secondary to hyperglycemia and the result of this can be fatal if not treated within a short period of time Less obvious presentation includes tiredness and weakness which is very common in uncontrolled diabetes. Alongside these presenting features comes visual blurring and fungal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
