How Should College Students Practice Meditation
Idea for experiment: Studying to see if having college student practice meditation will lower their
stress and anxiety levels
The Effects of Meditation
Blythe Houchen Stress is common among many Americans; however, stress among college students is
reported to be much higher. Many college students may not practice healthy habits to lower their stress
levels. A known method to lower stress is meditation. Meditation is not a common g practice among
college students. If college students began to practice meditation then their stress levels would likely
lower. This experiment is to test if their are positive effects to those who practice meditation. Fifty
colleges will practice mediation and we will see if this practice lowers their stress and ... Show more

Disadvantages Of Satellites
SATELLITE SYSTEMS World s first satellite Sputnik successfully launched by USSR 1957. Number
of satellites has significantly increased to over 1,100 operational satellites, with over 2000 obsolete
satellites since the first launch. Satellites either orbit the earth as a geostationary or non geostationary.
Geostationary stationary in the sky above a fixed point on the surface. The increasing amount of old
satellites and space debris has risen concerns for collisions with current satellites. GLOBAL
POSITIONING SYSTEMS (GPS) Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) systems are used to determine
the exact location of a number of modes of transport (e.g., airplanes, cars, ships, etc). GPS works in 2
parts Satellites surrounding the Earth transmit signals to the surface. A network of satellites constantly
broadcast a time signal, including it s position and time; each satellite has an Atomic clock (used in the
satellites which are accurate clocks within a fraction of a second per day) which broadcasts the time
signal at the speed of light (about 299 792 458 m / s). The receiver then receives the signal, it can
usually receive signals from 6 to 8 of them, and compares the time it took each signal to travel from
the satellite to the receiver. By doing so, it is able to triangulate and determine it s position on earth,
quite accurately (within 5 and 50 metres). The computer on board the mode of transport calculates its
exact position based on the information from at least

Rhetorical Analysis Of Let Women Fight By Megan H. Mackenzie
A researcher and writer of women in security roles, published author and lecturer at the University of
Sydney. Dr. Megan H Mackenzie, wrote Let Women Fight, published in 2012 in Foreign Affairs.
Mackenzie argues that despite popular belief in the United States women can indeed serve in combat
roles next to men. Mackenzie begins by addressing some issues she has with the proponents citing
research and statistics, while also appealing to ethos and logos. The tone that Mackenzie uses as well
as the credible sources and appeals to the audience led me to believe the persuasive elements. At first
Mackenzie starts with an overview by describing the unfavorable position that the United States
currently holds toward women in combats roles, while ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After which she uses these quotes against them proving through their own evidence that she is correct.
She appeals to logos through a variety of sources such as government officials, foreign military trials,
even quotes made by officials within the U.S. Government, these wide ranging but all relevant sources
allow for Mackenzie to become more credible. In her final appeal to logos it is the most simplistic in
that Mackenzie uses logical evidence such as With proper training and equipment, women can
contribute to missions just as well as men. (Mackenzie, 2012) as well as The U.S. military should
ensure it remains effective as possible, but it must not bend to biases, bigotry and false stereotypes

An Annotated Bibliography On Household Wealth Essay
Creative Title: An Annotated Bibliography Xie, Yu, and Yongai Jin. Household Wealth in China.
Chinese Sociological Review 47.3 (2015): 203 229. Academic Search Complete. Web. 27 Oct. 2015.
Xie and Jin examine the level, distribution, and composition of household wealth in contemporary
China. The study reveals that the richest one percent of the population owns over one third of the total
national household wealth, while the poorest twenty five percent owned less than two percent in 2012.
Housing assets in China show to be the largest component of household wealth, comprising seventy
percent. The study also discusses how regional disparities and the urban rural divide play significant
roles in the household wealth distribution, wealth growth rate, and wealth mobility. I plan to use this
study as informational background and a look into the state of affairs regarding Chinese society and
the wealth disparity that is present. Gan, Li, et al. Reducing Inequality: Taking From The Top To

Reflection About Sports
My life has consisted of many sports. Sports has been a part of my life for a while now every since I
can remember. The sports I played throughout the years has been baseball, football, soccer, and I ran
track. Throughout the years I played these sports has been some challenging times and injuries that
have happened to me.
Injuries and challenges always have an impact on a athletes abilities and there physical and mental
wanting to keep on playing. One challenge I had playing some of these sports is the coaches. Some
coaches you have through your high school or athletic career will help you and assist you. One coach I
had for track was the total opposite of that, instead of helping us, all she would do is criticize
everything that a person would do wrong and ignore the team if they had questions. She wouldn t help
us resolve our problem and I found that as a challenge for me because if I needed help on some tips
for running, she would not help. How I responded to this situation is by talking to her about the ways
she coaches. She didn t respond very well to what I had to say but at least I stood up and said
something. She learned that I didn t like how she was coaching and that s how I resolved my situation
with her. Many individuals tend to become uninterested, uncommitted, and unmotivated for many
reasons. The reasons they have could be resolved very easily. Some of the reasons I have heard
throughout the years is that the training is too hard. Training is supposed to be hard, you aren t going
to be the best unless you train hard. Another complaint I have heard is that the coaches are mean.
Some coaches are mean and some coaches are mean for a reason. Some coaches that is the only way
they know. Pushing athletes to the wall has been a coaching thought for many years and most coaches
I had, went by that mindset. The last reason I think people become uninterested in sports or physical
activity is that there not getting any results. The fact of the matter is; it is not just working out that s
going to get you the results. There are many factors that go into progressing and getting that result you
want. Your diet has a lot to do with getting that result so you got to make sure you are eating right.

Jane Austen s Lessons On Dating And Marriage
Jane Austen s Lessons on Dating Marriage Writing a paper for the purpose of discussing Jane Austen s
Lessons on dating and marriage in the 19th century, English novel, Pride and Prejudice , is truly a
challenge because there are many obscure as well as obvious lessons to be learned. Elizabeth Bennet,
the novel s protagonist, takes us on a journey into her thoughts, feelings and experiences as she learns
to deal with various family crisis as well as her own quest for love. There are good lessons and then
not so good ones. But there are lessons to be learned in both. In some instances, lessons that apply to
the 18th century culture do not readily apply to our culture today. The reverse is true as well, where
there are clear moral ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Added to this prejudice against women in general, was the specific devaluation of a woman without
material wealth. A woman s life centered in the home and the indisputable number one goal for any
young woman was to find a husband. Only then could she overcome the disgrace of being single and
poor and only then was she awarded some level of respect and dignity from family, friends, and
society. In this context, an unmarried woman was viewed as a financial drain and a burden to her
family. To make matters worse, there was the legal statuate, called entailment, that would not allow a
father to leave his estate to his daughters. Entailment required that an estate pass from father to a son
or male heir. This posed a hardship for the Bennet family and in the event of Mr. Bennet s untimely
death, the estate would go to a nephiew, causing Mrs. Bennet and their five daughters to lose their
home and financial security. I As a result of these values and social norms, a woman s sense of identity
and self worth was completely wrapped up in finding a suitable husband. It was completely
understandable for a young woman to feel like she was helping out her family by finding a husband
and setting up a

to come, showing both sides that it was going to be much longer and bloodier than expected. The first
battle of Bull Run began near a small stream (Bull Run) in NE Virginia, and about 30 miles SW of
Washington DC. The Battle began on July 21st, 1861, this battle was also the first preeminent
undertaking of the Civil War. The Civil War had started a couple months before Bull Run at the battle
at Fort Sumter. Both sides were hopeful that the war would be quick and over soon. The south thought
if they could take another victory, the north would just give up and leave the confederate states as they
were. While at the same time many from the north

Wildlife Cons And Cons Of The United State Department Of...
Wildlife Crossings Pros and Cons In 2015, the Washington State Department of Transportation began
construction on a series of improvement to I 90, a key interstate that connects eastern and western
Washington. The project includes many measures to improve traveler safety and efficiency such as
avalanche bridges, expanded lanes, straightened curves, and replacement bridges (WSDOT I 90
Snoqualmie Pass East, 2016). However, in addition to those changes, they are also adding
controversial wildlife crossing structures to the interstate that are intended to allow wildlife to get
across the roadway safely without entering traffic. There are several benefits like improved genetic
diversity of our wildlife, less injuries and death from collisions with them, and lower economic costs
as result, but also many drawbacks such as high initial costs, predators exploiting the crossing
structures, and the crossing structures not being used by the animals they were intended for. Some of
the major benefits of the I 90 crossing structures are the increased genetic diversity of our wildlife,
lowering our costs from collisions and less injuries and death from collisions. With fewer collisions
with animals and allowing animals a safe way to cross the roadway, they are able to move more freely
and safely between various populations of their species (Doughton, 2015). This allows them to breed
with those they are not closely related to and makes the population more genetically diverse. Diversity

Essay about Moliere
Moliere is undoubtedly one of the most interesting and famous French writers ever. His comedic plays
capture the reader with a a perfect blend of intelligent and slap stick jokes. He mastered the strange
enterprise of amusing decent people (Guicharnaud, 2) with this simple philosophy: Nothing is more
effective(in making people laugh) then holding up the mirror to nature. (Guicharnaud, 21) Jean
Baptiste Poquelin was born in Paris on January 15, 1662. His father and Mother where both interior
decorators for the king, although his mother died when Jean Baptise was ten years of age. He was sent
to College de
Claremont, an aristocratic Jesuit institution. Poquelin took a degree in law, which he never used in
practice, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His death came about within a few hours. His wife frantically searched for a priest to give him his last

Moliere, said Bishop Bossuet.(Bishop, 10) Moliere s plays are some of the most popular and produced
French plays in the world. Despite defects in the plot and character development of Moliere s plays,
his works remain popular today because the basis of his comedy deals with human nature,
relationships, and hypocrisy. Tartuffe was Moliere s most performed and popular play. When it was
presented to the king in 1664 he liked it, but forbade Moliere to publicly produce it under pressure
from the church. For 5 years he pulled every string he could to get the play in production. For reasons
unknown, King Louis lifted the ban and Tartuffe became a instant hit. The play consisted of 5 acts, in
which surprisingly the main character did not even appear until the third. Simply put, the plot had the
man of a house hold in love with a stranger named Tartuffe he had taken in to his care. The rest of the
family saw through his facade, but the father insists that Tartuffe is God sent. He finally realizes the
truth when he witnesses
Tartuffe tempting his wife as he hid under the dining room table. Often
Tartuffe would often comment that the other people of the house where not following God, and that he
was his humble servant. Of course he turned

Roman Empire Influence On Society
The Roman Empire s Rise Its Influence on Society
The Roman Empire was the post roman republic period (27BC 476AD (503 years)) of the ancient
roman civilisation, known for its government lead by emperors and its expansive territory; covering
Europe, Africa, and Asia. With approximately 50 90 million inhabitants, it was around 1/5 of the
world s population at the time.
The Rise of the Roman Empire:
The Roman Empire rise set of a chain reaction in which an event caused and the empire to form, and
because of this, many of changes the new Empire brought about affect our lives today. In 52BC, Julius
Caesar started a revolution which cause the fall of Republican Rome, and the rise of the Roman
Empire. This caused changes to laws and politics, architecture, and caused new inventions, colonies,
and roads to be formed, gave us religions, and gave us the languages and alphabets that have been
developed into something we use in our everyday lives.
Law and Politics:
Although roman law is not used today, many jurisdictions are based on principles and structures of
law that were used and developed in the time of the Roman Empire.
The Roman Empire ruled in the form of an Emperor, and a senate. The senate consisted of many
senators and two consuls, who along with the emperor had positions of higher power than the other
senators in the meetings. The senate had the power to regulate festivals and religious cults, grant
special honours, excuse an individual of legal liability, manage

The Tragedy Of The Mist By Michael Apted
The Tragedy That is Gorillas in the Mist Entertainment media, such as television and literature, have
often used the archetypal plot tragedy. Tragedy is a plot in which greatness can be crushed and
goodness, in turn, defeated. Often, a tragedy presents the challenges of adulthood, rather than a
romanticized version of life, proclaiming beauty and youth. In a tragedy, a hero accepts a call to action
to go on a journey, and, along the way, fate thwarts their efforts, and they perish or are defeated.
Afterwards, the audience experience a feeling of catharsis, or the releasing of a strong emotion (such
as pity or fear) (Merriam Webster). Director Michael Apted s Golden Globes winning movie, Gorillas
in the Mist, closely followed the plot of a tragedy. Apted uses archetypal characters, symbols, and
pathos to portray a tragedy. Using archetypal characters, such as Dian Fossey, Bob Campbell, and the
Batwa, Apted depicts a tragic plot in Gorillas in the Mist. Dian Fossey travels to the mountains of
Central Africa in order to protect the mountain gorillas whose population was rapidly succumbing to
poaching in the area. In order to save their lives, Fossey gives up personal relationships, and devotes
all of her attention to the gorillas. In Apted s film, Fossey represents the tragic hero; she takes a call to
action to save the mountain gorillas, and is thwarted by efforts from locals in the area, and is
eventually murdered for her efforts to protect them. Although her

The Transformation Of The American Dream By Robert Shiller
According to President Donald Trump and Ben Carson, the secretary of housing and urban
development, part of the American Dream involves owning a beautiful home and a roaring business
(1). However, Robert Shiller argues that the definition of the American Dream has drastically changed
to the detriment of our economy and society (3). In his essay The Transformation of the American
Dream , Shiller claims that the overuse of this phrase has caused its meaning to become morally
hallowed out (1).
Through the chronological structure of his content, Shiller tracks the exponential increase in the use of
the phrase American Dream to show how its repetition changed its meaning. Shiller begins in 1931

Mi Brain Design Techniques
3. Proposed Technique
Intuitively, if we can precisely locate the tumor region in the MRI image and recognize the
corresponding shape as well, then we will obtain a high performance algorithm, also if we can take
only a few features from this region, then we will obtain an algorithm with a low complexity
compared with the previous algorithms. This section describes an overview of all fundamental
processes in our brain diseases classification system. These processes are generally referred to as
image preprocessing, image segmentation, feature extraction and classification respectively see Fig.3.

3.2 Image Segmentation The proposed model performs the segmentation process using clustering
method which is considered an efficient segmentation technique. Clustering is the process of classifies
objects into different groups and classes. In clustering the data is classified according to a common
features shared between the object and the target class. The process of portioning data into a number
of subsets is often referred to as supervised learning or clustering. K means is one of clustering
techniques designed and used in many approaches [4]. K means is generally used to determine the
natural groupings of pixels present in an image. K means is considered to be one of the best
unsupervised clustering and classification techniques, also it s considered a very fast technique
compared with other algorithms. The aim of using K means is to classify each pixel to it s one or more
data classes by calculating the distance between the input pixel with the other pixels in the clustering
window. Fig.5 shows the result of applying the clustering technique on an MRI image containing
tumor and the resulted image showing the image after extracting the tumor region only without any
noise or other regions.
3.3 Feature Extractions
Once we get the tumor region now we can get some features from the segmented image that can help
us in classifying the disease that the MRI image suffers from. The feature extraction process consists
mainly of two stages which are, feature

English Song Critique
The first goal I set for the second quarter was to Write and record an English song. While I did not
completely finish a song, I developed instrumentals, lyrics, and melody lines for two songs.
Interestingly, I brainstormed the ideas for both projects while walking my dog, Bandit.
The first, which I have tentatively titled Melody, started with me humming a rhythmic piano part, then
a melody line. Next, I developed the instrumental in GarageBand, with an electric guitar part as a
placeholder for the vocals. I found some really cool techno/electronic effects, percussion parts, and
bass parts, and utilized them in my project. I scribbled some rough lyric ideas, then brought them into
class one day and implored Vanessa to help me finish the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

contains the easily recognized elements of telling a narrative, linear story beginning, middle and end,
with a recognizable story arc that contains the classic elements of drama and delivery; it also has
relatable imagery to appeal to audiences (Anderson). Unlike Melody, for this song I developed the
melody of the chorus first, building around the opening line you re an outlaw. While I was singing, I
couldn t help but feel that the song sounded Taylor Swift like, which is a very different sound from my
other two pieces. I didn t want to forget my song idea, so as soon as I returned home after the walk, I
recorded the melody in GarageBand using my MIDI keyboard and worked out some lyrics. I fleshed

An Organization Running, And Generating Profits Essay
Regardless of the industry, keeping an organization running, and generating profits, can be a daunting
task especially if the market is currently dominated by large corporations. Roughly 60 to 80 percent of
new businesses end in failure, meaning that in a highly competitive market, it is imperative to keep in
control of factors easily monitored. There are several reasons that a company may fail to thrive in the
market and some, such as market conditions, are outside of anyone s control; however, many
businesses fail because of poorly managing finances. By hiring a financial consultant, an organization
improves the odds of navigating the unclear waters of the market, which can be unpredictable and can
turn on a moments notice. In the end, generating revenue is the primary goal of any organization
because if the company does not have funds available to operate, all of their others objectives fall to
the wayside.
Food is one of the most diverse industries since the tastes of each individual are unique, giving

Human Impact On No2 And Company Comparison
Human Activity Impact on NO2 and CO Comparison
Lynn Dietrich
Virginia Aerospace Science and Technology Scholars
Abstract
Human activity can change the world incredibly fast. We have to monitor those changes the best we
can in order to understand any damage that is being done. We use satellites and specialized
instruments to monitor the changes in our atmosphere. The levels of pollution that humans are
responsible for has to be monitored so that any danger can be avoided. We have to study the
components of the atmosphere to understand what is harmful and what is not.

It is formed when hydrocarbon fuels are burned (Thompson). CO is mainly produced by industrial
processes, some fires, and internal combustion engines (Blakemore and Jennett, 2016). Like NO2, the
highest levels of carbon monoxide will be found in places with large cities and industries. Carbon
monoxide has local and global effects. High amounts are dangerous to people s health locally. CO can
be spread by winds throughout the troposphere, having a global effect (Ichoku). Carbon monoxide is
being studied to see its role in atmospheric chemistry and the ability of the atmosphere to cleanse itself
of harmful pollutants (Ichoku). Humans are the source of a huge amount of pollution. Human activity
has caused nitrogen dioxide levels to rise. This rise has increased pollution levels and has hurt the
atmosphere. Human activity has also caused carbon monoxide levels to rise, but unlike NO2, carbon
monoxide can easily be spread around the world by wind. The spread of carbon monoxide has added
to pollution and hurt the atmosphere. Human activity can have a very drastic effect on our world in a
relatively short amount of time. With the help of satellites and monitoring instruments, we can see
those effects and try to act on the data before any major damage is done. As humans continue to
pollute the environment, scientists continue to monitor the constant changes in the atmosphere and

This is most noticeable in the song White Ferrari where Ocean sings in a rhythm that sounds almost
identical to the popular song Here, There, and Everywhere by The Beatles. The album starts off with
Nikes, a slow, hypnotic song, featuring high pitched vocals from Ocean, and a very dreamy sound,
somewhat creating a mood for the rest of the album. The next songs, Ivy and Pink and White, are
polar opposites about love, where in Ivy, Ocean talks about how he failed to keep a relationship going
on, and in Pink and White he sings about intimate love and good long term relationships. The album
also contains skits like Be Yourself where Frank s mother leaves a phone call for him telling him not

smoking marijuana, and a skit called Facebook Story, about a man who lost his wife because he didn t

Do you understand, she s dead and you can t see her! Nothing you do is going to bring her back, quit
screaming. With that a nurse walked into the room, it took every ounce of energy the doctor and his
uncle had to pin Chay down while the nurse gave him a shot.
That afternoon as the shot started wearing off, Chay could hear people crying. Still groggy, Chay
stumbled into the living room full of people. At first he thought he was in a dream. I m not sure if it

You are going to ride to the cemetery with the preacher and his wife. I talked to your daddy last night

As they lowered Josephine into the ground, Chay and his little brothers and sister each walked up and
took a handful of dirt, and tossed it down into the hole on top of their mother s coffin.
Chay noticed that his father was over talking to the man from the cemetery and walked over to talk to

As he walked away Chay watched him stagger back to his car. He knew his daddy was drunk, but
figured he needed time to cool off. Chay took his little brother and sister by the hand and said to his
other brother, Let s go sit by the tree over there.
The four children watched as a tractor drove over to their mother s grave and finished filling in the
hole. Other men came over and took away the green tent, and then the flowers.

Volvo Failure
Implementation and Impact
Recommendations
In today s competitive environment checking service quality is considered as an important strategy to
retain the customers. Gap analysis is a tool to check the differences between standards set and service
delivered. The main concern was identified through the evaluation of the findings is the improvement
of customer expectations in Johannesburg branch. This study was conducted to improve customer s
expectation and retain them. The author perceived expectations could be improved far better than it is
currently to avoid poor service delivery.
The gap is between service quality specifications and service delivery, where employees can improve
to meet the standard set by Volvo and leave up brand values. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The recommendation is made to Volvo at Head Office, to implement in the management strategies of
management teams at Volvo branch level. The gap that has been identified is more of an opportunity
for the company to improve on than for competitors.
There are five focus areas that were identified by the author to see if Volvo delivers brand was
welcoming at branch level, the feedback and follow up by employee, communication of the brand by
the employees, marketing communications evaluation, customer satisfaction and customer loyalty.
1. Feedback and follow up by employee
The follow up from the sales executives from Pretoria and Johannesburg Volvo branch was good. For
a number of the groups there was follow up pertaining the products they promoted or quotations. The
author received follow ups by telephone calls or email messages.
It is recommended that the follow up with the customers must be a priority and promote their products
to customers. Although the proposals are on Volvo letterheads, the e mail message should have the
same professional appearance.

Carl Sagan s Belief Systems
Carl Sagan starts by wondering why we have various belief systems. There have been many examples
of belief systems and at any time you would find a set of popular, more or less similar, belief systems
(Sagan, pg. 379). The systems can change in a matter of years or last thousands of years, depending on
the support provided to the system from the people. Also, there are always a number of belief systems
to choose from. These systems are similar in that they have a comparable reason for their presence. He
came to the conclusion that belief systems fulfill a real human need that [is] not being met by our
society (Sagan, pg. 379). These include medical needs, spiritual needs, or a need to communicate and
connect with the rest of society. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both view the belief systems as offering a different way to satisfy the needs of the public, if the social
systems that are in place cannot satisfy those needs. They differ in that Hufford says that it is a
criticism of the social system, calling the system indirectly inadequate. Sagan may have held this view
as well, but did not discuss it within this article. The idea that belief fulfills a need is accurate. I agree
that their observation holds true to society. Taking an example of mainstream religions, many say that
they join and practice because they feel closer to a community of like minded individuals.
Carl Sagan s argues for skepticism to be more widely used in a person s daily life. He leads with an
example of buying a used car. He goes on to explain that many people will question the dealer about
the quality of the car or bring a mechanically inclined friend along. This opens the audience to the idea
that many people are already skeptical of certain situations. People have heard stories that used car
salesmen may sell malfunctioning cars and will take precautions when purchasing a car. Skepticism is
something that is necessary to our lives, because it can prevent us from making a mistake by not
asking questions. Sagan wants that skepticism to spread to other beliefs and ideas. As an example of
people or ideas people do not question, Sagan uses commercials. Sagan says that commercials are not
meant to be questioned about

Leadership Assignment
I ve been working at Rosati s in Pewaukee for over two years now, we ve gone through management
and ownership changes and have generally had a lot of new and old employees leave. While being
under different ownership since about December of 2017, I have seen the culture and atmosphere shift
first hand. When I first started working at Rosati s in 2015 I was referred by my best friend and had a
friend that previously worked there. I had gotten the job without even having an interview beforehand,
I was hired via phone call and looking back now it wasn t very professional. The owner of the

Some of the people employed here including myself switch roles within the workplace often. For
example; I m trained and able to do every job within Rosati s. I manage phones and cashiering
regularly but I also tend kitchen and man the oven when I need to. There are around 15 people
employed here, some of them hired just recently. We have four delivery drivers (Bob, Jake, Trevor,
Scott), three or four mostly pizza line workers (Alex, Becca, Michael, Keith), etc. However, when it is
expected that one of us needs help on a busy night we jump in wherever help is needed. That could be
attributed to being a value we all share; that we will help where it is needed. Another value we share is
having fun in the workplace. We all try to get along the best we can whether it s by sharing stories or
making jokes. We try to make it an enjoyable place to be. A third value that can be identified within
this small pizza culture is that we try to look and act our best, especially towards customers (even
those that can t be helped to be nice). We understand that appearance and appropriate body language
and etiquette is important and we try to carry that out as best we can, even while being covered in
flour ninety percent of our shifts. The norms identified from the values discussed above are as follows;
to achieve maximum success in the workplace we re expected to help other stations when busy.

The Imagery of Bloodshed in The Oresteia Essay
The Imagery of Bloodshed in The Oresteia
In the prologue of Agamemnon, the first play of Aeschylus trilogy, The
Oresteia, the watchman implores the gods for a blessed end to all our
pain. (20). He is asking for deliverance from the retributive system of
justice, where the only certainty is that bloodshed breeds more bloodshed.
The old men of the chorus in their opening chant, Hymn to Zeus, declare
that suffering must be experienced before man can be released from this
ceaseless irredeemable bloodshed and thus be, free from all the pain. (1)
They declare that it is a law laid down by Zeus that we must suffer,

At the beginning of the
play, the chorus describes the blood that was shed by Agamemnon in Troy,
where he was driven to avenge Priam s theft of Helen. Here, Agamemnon acted
true to revenge, [like] a stabbing Fury, (65) plunging his sword into a
mother/ bursting with unborn young the babies spilling, / quick spurts of
blood [and] cut off the race just dashing into life! (107) He is a bloody
lion that lapped its fill, gorging on the blood of kings. (812 13) Not
only did his need for vengeance cause bloodshed in Troy, it also resulted
in his sacrifice of his daughter. The chorus describes how Agamemnon
performed this act in order to appease Artemis for [she] must have blood.
(201) if the fleets are to be able to sail to Troy. The chorus relates
the older warlord saying, Obey, obey, or a heavy doom will crush me! / Oh
but doom will crush me/ once I rend my child/ the glory of my house / a
father s hand s are stained,/ blood of a young girl streaks the altar./
Pain both ways and what is worse?/ Desert the fleets, fail the alliance?/
No, but stop the winds with a virgin s blood,/ feed their lust, their
fury? feed their fury! Law is law! (205 16)
To Agamemnon, the
consequences that would arise out of not fulfilling the vendetta and
destroying Troy outweigh those which would result from the sacrifice of his
daughter. He

Maggot Therapy

Technology REVIEW ARTICLE Maggot Therapy Takes Us Back to the Future of Wound Care: New
and Improved Maggot Therapy for the 21st Century Ronald A. Sherman, M.D., M.Sc., D.T.M.H.
Abstract In the 21st century, eighty years after William Baer presented his groundbreaking work
treating bone and soft tissue infections with live maggots, thousands of therapists around the globe
have rediscovered the benefits of maggot therapy. The renaissance in maggot therapy is due in large
part to recent technological advancements that have solved or minimized many of the treatment s
earlier drawbacks: the need for reliable access to this perishable ... Show more content on

But before those studies could be carried out, and before widespread use of maggot therapy was
imaginable, several technical challenges first had to be overcome. History of Maggot Therapy Early
Observations For centuries, the beneficial effects of maggot infested wounds were noted by military
surgeons who observed that injured soldiers abandoned on the battlefield fared better and that their
wounds healed faster when those wounds were infested with maggots.7 Himself having observed
maggot infested wounds during his service in World War I, the orthopedic surgeon, William Baer, was
the first to apply maggots systematically to nonhealing wounds while a professor at Johns Hopkins
and Children s Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. Baer presented his preliminary results in 1929,8 and
his entire work in maggot therapy treating over 100 children with osteomyelitis and problematic soft
tissue wounds was published posthumously in 1931.9 Technological Advancements That Have
Optimized Maggot Therapy Within 5 years of Baer s groundbreaking work, over 1000 American,
Canadian, and European surgeons were using maggots in their practice.10 Many hospitals operated
their own insectaries for rearing and disinfecting the larvae. Rise and Fall of Maggot Therapy in the
1930s The three most common objections to maggot therapy during the 1930s were the hassle of
making dressings, the difficulty in obtaining viable, germ free

How To Eisenhower A Good President
Many people think that Dwight D. Eisenhower didn t do much during his presidency. That s not true
he actually did many things. Some people say he didn t take much action during his presidency. That s
not true either, he just tried to do things without taking unnecessary actions. He had more experience
than a lot of presidents with Military, which helped him to make those decisions. Eisenhower did
many more things than just being in the military.
Dwight D. Eisenhower was born in Texas in 1890 (whitehouse.gov). When he was a year and a half
his family moved back to Abilene, the family had lived there before, but moved to Texas because of a
job. Eisenhower had some pretty impressive accomplishments during his life, even before presidency.
He got accepted into the United States Military Academy, West Point, and graduated. He was
president of Columbia University, and moved up ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But it wasn t until 1952 that he actually started running for president. His slogan was I like Ike , Ike
was his nickname. Eisenhower had a clear lead throughout most of his run, though he did have some
issues. One of them was that there was a scandal about Nixon using campaign funds for personal use,
this was also a pretty serious issue considering that Eisenhower had promised that his campaign would
be very clean. Eisenhower ran against Taft in the first election, and he ran against Adlai Stevenson in
both elections. Eisenhower won both elections. He ran two terms and because of that there were many
things that happened during his presidency. When Eisenhower first got into Presidency the Korean
War was still going on, but he ended it by making a deal with the Chinese. He considers this to be his
greatest presidential accomplishment. Eisenhower balanced the budget three times. And he signed the
Federal Highway Act of 1956, this created many of the highways we have

Messianic Secret In The Gospel Of Mark
Acknowledging a Lord through Suffering
The Gospel of Mark is structured with parables that reveal the Messianic secret; which answers the
central question of the gospel, Who do you say that I am? (Mark 8:29). Following the parables, the
way of the cross demonstrates in the most humble and vulnerable who Jesus truly is. However, some
people in the bible still struggled to believe the man on the cross was the Son of God; therefore, they
were not fully engaged in discipleship. In the gospel of Mark, Jesus is the son of God, elected by God
to be a suffering messiah that calls people to suffer with him by following the way of the cross and
accept suffering for Christ s sake in order to become a disciple of Jesus.
The central question of the gospel is developed throughout the accounts of parables and the way of the
cross. The parables explain what the Kingdom of God is by representing people as seeds and the soil
is God (Mark 4:1 9). Furthermore, our faith grows gradually like the seed, but the power of the
fruition, the seed developing much wheat, is kept secret to those who cannot answer the central
question of the Gospel. The secrecy of fruition clearly exposes a reoccurring theme of the Messianic
Secret in the Gospel of Mark because Jesus imposes silence to reveal the answer to the central
question of the gospel. It s kept secret because one must know who Christ is and follow the way to the
cross before they can reach the Kingdom of God; which is God himself.

Lisa Kudrow Research Paper
So, after reading all of this, what do you think about Lisa Kudrow? I, personally, would love to have
her on my friends list. She stands about 5 8 in height, has blond hair and green eyes. She is an absolute
beauty plus she is intelligent and has a great sense of humor. In case you didn t know, People
magazine viewed Kudrow as being one of the Most Beautiful People in the World in 1997.
Just to recap just a few of her credits, Kudrow received many professional honors including awards
for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor (Screen Actors Guild), Best Supporting Female, an
Independent Spirit Award nomination and Funniest Supporting Female Performer in a TV Series.

Timing is everything and 9 years after the conception, it was a part of HBO s lineup. HBO came to
them with the idea. Can you believe it? Simultaneously, Kudrow is hosting the improvisational
network broadcast, Web Therapy with Jon Hamm, Gwyneth Paltrow and Allison Janney on Showtime.
Matt Leblanc appeared in Kudrow s Web Therapy a time or two.
Kudrow also attended Milk Studios 2015 Vulture Festival in New York this spring. Billy Eichner and
Julie Klausner of Difficult People were there to mingle with the star. No matter where she goes, it
would seem that someone is asking the proverbial question: Will there ever be a reunion for the cast
and crew of Friends? Kudrow answers by saying that they all can t even meet for dinner. Apparently,
they all live in different states so, getting together can be impossible, to say the least. However, they
do try to stay in touch.
Leblanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer haven t had much fame or success when it comes to
securing roles since 2004, but the girls, Courteney Cox and Jennifer Aniston, have had plenty of other
engagements to keep them occupied. I can t speak for everyone, but there are plenty of us religiously
watching the reruns. Joey, played by Leblanc, is by far the most laughable and adored male character
on the show. Leblanc attempted a spinoff of the series with Joey, but it didn t do well at all it lasted for

Analysis Of Walt Whitman s Dracula And Bram Stoker s...
For the past century, Walt Whitman has inspired people with his literary work by addressing his views
and expectations to the future generation. Not only was his circular connection relating the reader to
his poems, but the realistic truths and observations in these poems revealed deep confessions, which
affected the reader s personal feelings and opinions. Expanding further than American readers and
writers, Whitman had established an impact worldwide. Writers such as Oscar Wilde and Bram Stoker,
two Irishmen that know of Whitman s writings through the poet s popularity growing up as children
and young adults, had become advocates of the controversial topics Whitman wrote about. Wilde and

The simplest, most natural, and strongest character I have ever met in my life , in his biographical
review (116). Throughout Wilde s literary career, reflections of Whitman can be seen by the more
philosophical pieces created by Wilde, which stray away from his typical beauty over content persona.
More specifically, Whitman like ideas can be seen in Wilde s poem Humanitad in comparison to
Whitman s Song of Myself . Humanitad begins with the contrast of the seasons of spring and winter,
but goes in depth with the contrast of the Greek Gods and the Christian God, leaving readers in
philosophical questioning about religious beliefs. Though Humanitad does remain true to Wilde s
common, beautiful writing style, there is deeper meaning to his words. Song of Myself discusses the
importance of finding one s self through observation and nature, as well as the connectivity between
all types of people in the continuous circle life makes. The writing style of Wilde s Humanitad do not
reflect Whitman s, but the topics of nature, death, and life are all the main focuses of both pieces. In
comparison, Song of Myself and Humanitad both use nature as a way to link main ideas together for
the reader. For example, Whitman uses nature in a metaphysical sense to explain his place in the
world, while Wilde uses nature as an aesthetic tool that

  • 3. Disadvantages Of Satellites SATELLITE SYSTEMS World s first satellite Sputnik successfully launched by USSR 1957. Number of satellites has significantly increased to over 1,100 operational satellites, with over 2000 obsolete satellites since the first launch. Satellites either orbit the earth as a geostationary or non geostationary. Geostationary stationary in the sky above a fixed point on the surface. The increasing amount of old satellites and space debris has risen concerns for collisions with current satellites. GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEMS (GPS) Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) systems are used to determine the exact location of a number of modes of transport (e.g., airplanes, cars, ships, etc). GPS works in 2 parts Satellites surrounding the Earth transmit signals to the surface. A network of satellites constantly broadcast a time signal, including it s position and time; each satellite has an Atomic clock (used in the satellites which are accurate clocks within a fraction of a second per day) which broadcasts the time signal at the speed of light (about 299 792 458 m / s). The receiver then receives the signal, it can usually receive signals from 6 to 8 of them, and compares the time it took each signal to travel from the satellite to the receiver. By doing so, it is able to triangulate and determine it s position on earth, quite accurately (within 5 and 50 metres). The computer on board the mode of transport calculates its exact position based on the information from at least ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Rhetorical Analysis Of Let Women Fight By Megan H. Mackenzie A researcher and writer of women in security roles, published author and lecturer at the University of Sydney. Dr. Megan H Mackenzie, wrote Let Women Fight, published in 2012 in Foreign Affairs. Mackenzie argues that despite popular belief in the United States women can indeed serve in combat roles next to men. Mackenzie begins by addressing some issues she has with the proponents citing research and statistics, while also appealing to ethos and logos. The tone that Mackenzie uses as well as the credible sources and appeals to the audience led me to believe the persuasive elements. At first Mackenzie starts with an overview by describing the unfavorable position that the United States currently holds toward women in combats roles, while ... She appeals to logos through a variety of sources such as government officials, foreign military trials, even quotes made by officials within the U.S. Government, these wide ranging but all relevant sources allow for Mackenzie to become more credible. In her final appeal to logos it is the most simplistic in that Mackenzie uses logical evidence such as With proper training and equipment, women can contribute to missions just as well as men. (Mackenzie, 2012) as well as The U.S. military should ensure it remains effective as possible, but it must not bend to biases, bigotry and false stereotypes (Mackenzie, ... Housing assets in China show to be the largest component of household wealth, comprising seventy percent. I plan to use this study as informational background and a look into the state of affairs regarding Chinese society and the wealth disparity that is present. Gan, Li, et al. • 6. Reflection About Sports My life has consisted of many sports. Sports has been a part of my life for a while now every since I can remember. The sports I played throughout the years has been baseball, football, soccer, and I ran track. Throughout the years I played these sports has been some challenging times and injuries that have happened to me. Injuries and challenges always have an impact on a athletes abilities and there physical and mental wanting to keep on playing. One challenge I had playing some of these sports is the coaches. Some coaches you have through your high school or athletic career will help you and assist you. One coach I had for track was the total opposite of that, instead of helping us, all she would do is criticize everything that a person would do wrong and ignore the team if they had questions. She wouldn t help us resolve our problem and I found that as a challenge for me because if I needed help on some tips for running, she would not help. How I responded to this situation is by talking to her about the ways she coaches. She didn t respond very well to what I had to say but at least I stood up and said something. She learned that I didn t like how she was coaching and that s how I resolved my situation with her. Many individuals tend to become uninterested, uncommitted, and unmotivated for many reasons. The reasons they have could be resolved very easily. Some of the reasons I have heard throughout the years is that the training is too hard. Training is supposed to be hard, you aren t going to be the best unless you train hard. Another complaint I have heard is that the coaches are mean. Some coaches are mean and some coaches are mean for a reason. Some coaches that is the only way they know. Pushing athletes to the wall has been a coaching thought for many years and most coaches I had, went by that mindset. The last reason I think people become uninterested in sports or physical activity is that there not getting any results. The fact of the matter is; it is not just working out that s going to get you the results. There are many factors that go into progressing and getting that result you want. Your diet has a lot to do with getting that result so you got to make sure you are eating right. Ways that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Jane Austen s Lessons On Dating And Marriage Jane Austen s Lessons on Dating Marriage Writing a paper for the purpose of discussing Jane Austen s Lessons on dating and marriage in the 19th century, English novel, Pride and Prejudice , is truly a challenge because there are many obscure as well as obvious lessons to be learned. Elizabeth Bennet, the novel s protagonist, takes us on a journey into her thoughts, feelings and experiences as she learns to deal with various family crisis as well as her own quest for love. There are good lessons and then not so good ones. But there are lessons to be learned in both. In some instances, lessons that apply to the 18th century culture do not readily apply to our culture today. The reverse is true as well, where there are clear moral ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Added to this prejudice against women in general, was the specific devaluation of a woman without material wealth. A woman s life centered in the home and the indisputable number one goal for any young woman was to find a husband. Only then could she overcome the disgrace of being single and poor and only then was she awarded some level of respect and dignity from family, friends, and society. In this context, an unmarried woman was viewed as a financial drain and a burden to her family. To make matters worse, there was the legal statuate, called entailment, that would not allow a father to leave his estate to his daughters. Entailment required that an estate pass from father to a son or male heir. This posed a hardship for the Bennet family and in the event of Mr. Bennet s untimely death, the estate would go to a nephiew, causing Mrs. Bennet and their five daughters to lose their home and financial security. I As a result of these values and social norms, a woman s sense of identity and self worth was completely wrapped up in finding a suitable husband. The Battle began on July 21st, 1861, this battle was also the first preeminent undertaking of the Civil War. The Civil War had started a couple months before Bull Run at the battle at Fort Sumter. • 9. Wildlife Cons And Cons Of The United State Department Of... Wildlife Crossings Pros and Cons In 2015, the Washington State Department of Transportation began construction on a series of improvement to I 90, a key interstate that connects eastern and western Washington. The project includes many measures to improve traveler safety and efficiency such as avalanche bridges, expanded lanes, straightened curves, and replacement bridges (WSDOT I 90 Snoqualmie Pass East, 2016). However, in addition to those changes, they are also adding controversial wildlife crossing structures to the interstate that are intended to allow wildlife to get across the roadway safely without entering traffic. There are several benefits like improved genetic diversity of our wildlife, less injuries and death from collisions with them, and lower economic costs as result, but also many drawbacks such as high initial costs, predators exploiting the crossing structures, and the crossing structures not being used by the animals they were intended for. Some of the major benefits of the I 90 crossing structures are the increased genetic diversity of our wildlife, lowering our costs from collisions and less injuries and death from collisions. With fewer collisions with animals and allowing animals a safe way to cross the roadway, they are able to move more freely and safely between various populations of their species (Doughton, 2015). This allows them to breed with those they are not closely related to and makes the population more genetically diverse. Diversity in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Essay about Moliere Moliere is undoubtedly one of the most interesting and famous French writers ever. His comedic plays capture the reader with a a perfect blend of intelligent and slap stick jokes. He mastered the strange enterprise of amusing decent people (Guicharnaud, 2) with this simple philosophy: Nothing is more effective(in making people laugh) then holding up the mirror to nature. (Guicharnaud, 21) Jean Baptiste Poquelin was born in Paris on January 15, 1662. His father and Mother where both interior decorators for the king, although his mother died when Jean Baptise was ten years of age. He was sent to College de Claremont, an aristocratic Jesuit institution. Poquelin took a degree in law, which he never used in practice, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His death came about within a few hours. His wife frantically searched for a priest to give him his last rights, but to no avail. God was displaying his anger against Moliere, said Bishop Bossuet.(Bishop, 10) Moliere s plays are some of the most popular and produced French plays in the world. Despite defects in the plot and character development of Moliere s plays, his works remain popular today because the basis of his comedy deals with human nature, relationships, and hypocrisy. Tartuffe was Moliere s most performed and popular play. When it was presented to the king in 1664 he liked it, but forbade Moliere to publicly produce it under pressure from the church. For 5 years he pulled every string he could to get the play in production. For reasons unknown, King Louis lifted the ban and Tartuffe became a instant hit. The play consisted of 5 acts, in which surprisingly the main character did not even appear until the third. Simply put, the plot had the man of a house hold in love with a stranger named Tartuffe he had taken in to his care. The rest of the family saw through his facade, but the father insists that Tartuffe is God sent. He finally realizes the truth when he witnesses Tartuffe tempting his wife as he hid under the dining room table. Often Tartuffe would often comment that the other people of the house where not following God, and that he was his humble servant. Of course he turned ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Rise of the Roman Empire: The Roman Empire rise set of a chain reaction in which an event caused and the empire to form, and because of this, many of changes the new Empire brought about affect our lives today. • 12. The Tragedy Of The Mist By Michael Apted The Tragedy That is Gorillas in the Mist Entertainment media, such as television and literature, have often used the archetypal plot tragedy. Tragedy is a plot in which greatness can be crushed and goodness, in turn, defeated. Often, a tragedy presents the challenges of adulthood, rather than a romanticized version of life, proclaiming beauty and youth. In a tragedy, a hero accepts a call to action to go on a journey, and, along the way, fate thwarts their efforts, and they perish or are defeated. Afterwards, the audience experience a feeling of catharsis, or the releasing of a strong emotion (such as pity or fear) (Merriam Webster). Director Michael Apted s Golden Globes winning movie, Gorillas in the Mist, closely followed the plot of a tragedy. Apted uses archetypal characters, symbols, and pathos to portray a tragedy. Using archetypal characters, such as Dian Fossey, Bob Campbell, and the Batwa, Apted depicts a tragic plot in Gorillas in the Mist. Dian Fossey travels to the mountains of Central Africa in order to protect the mountain gorillas whose population was rapidly succumbing to poaching in the area. In order to save their lives, Fossey gives up personal relationships, and devotes all of her attention to the gorillas. • 13. The Transformation Of The American Dream By Robert Shiller According to President Donald Trump and Ben Carson, the secretary of housing and urban development, part of the American Dream involves owning a beautiful home and a roaring business (1). However, Robert Shiller argues that the definition of the American Dream has drastically changed to the detriment of our economy and society (3). In his essay The Transformation of the American Dream , Shiller claims that the overuse of this phrase has caused its meaning to become morally hallowed out (1). Through the chronological structure of his content, Shiller tracks the exponential increase in the use of the phrase American Dream to show how its repetition changed its meaning. Proposed Technique Intuitively, if we can precisely locate the tumor region in the MRI image and recognize the corresponding shape as well, then we will obtain a high performance algorithm, also if we can take only a few features from this region, then we will obtain an algorithm with a low complexity compared with the previous algorithms. This section describes an overview of all fundamental processes in our brain diseases classification system. These processes are generally referred to as image preprocessing, image segmentation, feature extraction and classification respectively see Fig.3. 3.1 Image Preprocessing One of the most problems dealing with MRI images is to make the image suitable to be processed and the noise is one of ... Clustering is the process of classifies objects into different groups and classes. In clustering the data is classified according to a common features shared between the object and the target class. The process of portioning data into a number of subsets is often referred to as supervised learning or clustering. K means is one of clustering techniques designed and used in many approaches [4]. K means is generally used to determine the natural groupings of pixels present in an image. K means is considered to be one of the best unsupervised clustering and classification techniques, also it s considered a very fast technique compared with other algorithms. The aim of using K means is to classify each pixel to it s one or more data classes by calculating the distance between the input pixel with the other pixels in the clustering window. Fig.5 shows the result of applying the clustering technique on an MRI image containing tumor and the resulted image showing the image after extracting the tumor region only without any noise or other regions. 3.3 Feature Extractions Once we get the tumor region now we can get some features from the segmented image that can help us in classifying the disease that the MRI image suffers from. While I did not completely finish a song, I developed instrumentals, lyrics, and melody lines for two songs. Interestingly, I brainstormed the ideas for both projects while walking my dog, Bandit. The first, which I have tentatively titled Melody, started with me humming a rhythmic piano part, then a melody line. Next, I developed the instrumental in GarageBand, with an electric guitar part as a placeholder for the vocals. While I was singing, I couldn t help but feel that the song sounded Taylor Swift like, which is a very different sound from my other two pieces. An Organization Running, And Generating Profits Essay Regardless of the industry, keeping an organization running, and generating profits, can be a daunting task especially if the market is currently dominated by large corporations. Roughly 60 to 80 percent of new businesses end in failure, meaning that in a highly competitive market, it is imperative to keep in control of factors easily monitored. There are several reasons that a company may fail to thrive in the market and some, such as market conditions, are outside of anyone s control; however, many businesses fail because of poorly managing finances. By hiring a financial consultant, an organization improves the odds of navigating the unclear waters of the market, which can be unpredictable and can turn on a moments notice. • 32. Messianic Secret In The Gospel Of Mark Acknowledging a Lord through Suffering The Gospel of Mark is structured with parables that reveal the Messianic secret; which answers the central question of the gospel, Who do you say that I am? (Mark 8:29). Following the parables, the way of the cross demonstrates in the most humble and vulnerable who Jesus truly is. However, some people in the bible still struggled to believe the man on the cross was the Son of God; therefore, they were not fully engaged in discipleship. In the gospel of Mark, Jesus is the son of God, elected by God to be a suffering messiah that calls people to suffer with him by following the way of the cross and accept suffering for Christ s sake in order to become a disciple of Jesus. The central question of the gospel is developed throughout the accounts of parables and the way of the cross. The parables explain what the Kingdom of God is by representing people as seeds and the soil is God (Mark 4:1 9). Furthermore, our faith grows gradually like the seed, but the power of the fruition, the seed developing much wheat, is kept secret to those who cannot answer the central question of the Gospel. The secrecy of fruition clearly exposes a reoccurring theme of the Messianic Secret in the Gospel of Mark because Jesus imposes silence to reveal the answer to the central question of the gospel. It s kept secret because one must know who Christ is and follow the way to the cross before they can reach the Kingdom of God; which is God himself. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
