A Brief Note On Workers Creating Their Own Exploitation

Workers Creating Their Own Exploitation
In a modern society we are led to believe that there is a fair exchange taking place when
workers(working force?) sells their labour power ( Gary Lapon, 2011.).( define this) Karl Marx
believed that the working class were being exploited through laborious jobs. In today s society wages
are determined by the current cost of living within provinces across Canada. Usually the wage
workers receive do not allow for many to live a comfortable life yet we continue to work these jobs as
they feel we have no other option. This feeling of desperation comes from the term wage slavery (cite
), where one feels as though they are stuck working a job that makes them unhappy, so they remain
feeling successful or are able to meet the cost of living. As a result of wage slavery, employees come
into work on days that they had previously booked off, are frightened to call in sick when sick and
often take abuse from their boss. Employees are showing up with their work persona, believing that
these low wages are equal when in reality they are not (S.Enns, 2014) Employers profit from their
employees without employees being completely aware of it. Employers want their workers to produce
more and produce it efficiently, without increasing the

Iganga Nursing Literature Review
Our findings indicated that health workers perceived reviews as part of continuous quality
improvement that emanated from the general routine work and cultural environment within the
hospital. We think this contributed to a continuous MPDR practice within the hospital despite of the
challenges faced.
It was revealed in other studies that the most successful reviews were characterized by three
interdependent, supportive cultural factors which are supportive health professionals, supportive
institutional culture and supportive political and policy environment14. It was also revealed that the
perceptions held by the health workers about MPDRs also varied from one study to another. The
perceptions held by health workers in Thyolo, Malawi were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

There was also no feedback and follow up from higher levels (national and district) hence there was
no systematic mechanism for follow up of recommendations. This is similar for the study findings that
investigated the MPDR system in Tanzania which was a major barrier to effective MPDR6,20,23.
Most respondents reported that MPDR was important in improving their professional practice and
ethical code of conduct. However, it is difficult to ascertain the weight of each activity in the
improvement of care16,27.
Our findings revealed that mentorships greatly supported health workers conduct reviews. This is not
revealed in other studies as a strategy for supporting health workers realize effective reviews in
Thyolo District of Malawi, Ifakara in Tanzania and Senegal 8,11 23.The health workers revealed that
the reviews helped them to improve the quality of care which in other studies quality of care is not
easily measured and effect takes a long time where mistakes are repeatedly done16,25,27. Health
workers desire to change but the context of implementation has to count16, 26. In Uganda, it was
reported that some of the maternal death within hospitals happened at a time of staff handover or
change in work shifts19,27.
Supportive health professionals: doctors, midwives and nurses make all the difference between the
success and failure of reviews 14,21.Success also depends on accountability of both care providers
(frontline) and decision makers8,19. In an MPDR study that

Child Abuse And It s Connection With Social Work
Child Abuse and
It s Connection with Social Work
Amanda Miller
SWK 3301 01
Child Abuse and It s Connection with Social Work Childhood should be carefree, playing in the sun;
not living a nightmare in the darkness of the soul (Pelzer, 1995, p. 166). Various discussions, studies,
and ethical problems are formed around the topic of child abuse. Child abuse, defined by the Child
Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act (CAPTA), is any recent act or failure to act on the part of a
parent or caretaker which results in death, serious physical or emotional harm, sexual abuse or
exploitation ; or an act or failure to act which presents an imminent risk of serious harm. (Gateway,
2013) This leaves a large area for speculation on whether situations are covered under this definition.
Nonetheless, child abuse is an unfortunate and growing problem in society today. With several causes
such as poverty, parents who do not know any differently, and behavioral issues. These are all areas
that social workers deal with on a day to day basis.
Why child abuse? There are many outlooks involving values that form social work through ethical,
personal, and professional. As far as ethically, social work can become very challenging for the social
worker themselves. This is because of the ethical dilemmas emerge in certain cases when social
workers have to choose between their duties, values, and rights. These arises due to some of the
obligations that are expected of them colliding with

How Muscular Forces Exerted By The Masticatory Muscles
Muscular forces exerted by the masticatory muscles can influence the success of prosthetic
rehabilitation. Maximum voluntary bite force is an indicator of the functional state of the masticatory
system. The measurement of bite force can provide useful data for the evaluation of jaw muscle
function and activity. Aim: the aim of this study was to find out whether there was a correlation
between Electromyographic activity EMG and bite force in extracoronal attachment retained distal
extension partial dentures or not and is this correlation directly or inversely proportional. materials and
methods: Fourteen patients with mandibular class I Kennedy s classification were selected Patients
received lower skeleton partial dentures designed with a lingual bar major connector and a resilient
extracoronal attachment incorporated between the abutment and the denture base. EMG recording and
biting force of the participants was measured immediately, after one week, and after one month of
denture insertion. Results: revealed a statistically significant increase in biting force and EMG activity
throughout the one month follow up period Conclusion: A linear positive relation between
Electromyographic activity and bite force measurements was observed in case of extracoronal
attachment retained distal extension partial denture.
Introduction
The main problem in distal extension cases is the absence of a posterior abutment. The Viscoelastic

Field Hockey Practice At Phillips Exeter Academy
As we are lining up for drills in field hockey practice, one of my coaches, Marissa, looks over at me
and asks, Who is that all the way across the field in those red tights? (B+) I respond, Of course it is
Casey, who else has as much team spirit that they would wear those tights to practice?. Casey is
dressed in red, metallic tights underneath a white skirt with a vibrant, blue long sleeve t shirt; our
spirit dress at practice is America in order to get excited for our game tomorrow at Phillips Exeter
Academy. Since Casey is about 100 yards away from me, on the other side of the field, I can only
manage to make out her tights. I cannot help but smile when I look this enthusiastic outfit, even

Sarah Plumb and Marissa Gedman come over to tell us to go sit in a circle in the middle of the field,
giving Casey and Maura space. Not wanting to leave Casey s side, I reluctantly walk over to the
middle of the field. As I am walking away, my legs feel heavy and unreliable while they wobble
beneath me. Some of my teammates begin yelling to the trainers at the soccer field above to come
quickly and that it is an emergency. Almost instantaneously, I hear the zooming of the trainer s golf
cart come rushing over. My legs keep walking away from Casey, even though it is not what I want
them to do. I reach the circle of my teammates, and I slowly lower myself to the ground. I sit cross
legged with a glare fixed on the ground in front of me; the forest green, artificial grass pokes through
the densely packed, black, rubber pellets. I pull at pieces of this grass and fiddle with the rubber
pellets, pushing them into my sweaty palm and seeing if they will leave indentations. I continue to do
this as I see the coaches come over to update us, Girls, we want to warn you that we will have to call
an ambulance, but we are hoping it is just an allergic reaction that Casey is having. My eyes start to
well with tears of confusion and anger. I begin to fiercely pull the artificial grass apart to relieve my
frustrations. My vision remains fixated on the turf, and I am lost in my own thoughts as I question the
situation around me for some

Ethics And Infinity By Emmanuel Levinas
Ethics and Infinity by Emmanuel Levinas
The works of Emmanuel Levinas are considered to be hugely influential within the philosophical
disciplines of twentieth century ethics and existentialism, but unfortunately the convolution and
misrepresentation of his thinking often results in miscomprehension of his ideas. Totality and Infinity:
A Book on Exteriority is one of Levinas earlier works (published in 1961 in French and 1969 in
English) that has garnered much attention and praise from writers across a multitude of disciplines
(not just philosophy) for the fact that it deals with the widely applicable subject of relations toward
and perception of the Other from the perspective of the self. Throughout the book, the author
demonstrates the manner in which subjectivity begins from the idea of perpetuity, and how the infinite
is an outcome of the correlation of self and Other. The main purpose of Levinas work is to find out the
dominance of the Other based on the epiphany of the face. According to his work, infinite is the
beginning or foundation of ethics and, he also declines any ethical intellectualism. Levinas
acknowledges the idea that not every human being is inherently ethical per se but he or she is an
aspiration of Others. Therefore, the remaining part of this paper will focus on sexuality, which is one
of the themes that the writer encountered Sexual encounter Sex is a powerful act that has the ability to

The Problem Of Self State
Conscious state according to dictionary.com is being aware of one s own existence these may involve
thoughts, sensations (images, aches, pain, visual, auditory and tactual sensation etc.). Smart refuses to
admit to the fact that sensations are irreducibly psychical because of Occam s razor (which suggests
that such matters should not even be put into consideration). He affirms there is no philosophical
argument that compels us to be dualist, he writes I am in pain is a genuine report, and that what it
reports is an irreducibly psychical something (Adler and Elgin 384). From this context he believes that
by claiming one is in pain one is reporting something, which is over and above, (something
unexplainable beyond the human ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
we should also involve conscious state as well. He thinks of sensations as dispositions towards a
certain types of stimulus/temptation. He reduced behaviours to dispositions and he classified them as
being brain processes an example he gives an example of New Zealanders and the English who both
refer to Venus when one group refers to it as Morning Star and the other as Evening Star his aims is to
show that sensations may be similar but with different physical phenomenon. For example two people
may be identical in their appearances but might have different properties. The question might be
asked, that even if sensations are identical with brain processes, are there not introspected non
physical properties of sensations that are not identical with properties of brain processes? (Identity
theory) . To dispel this thought smart adopts topic neutral a narrower sense of being neutral to dualism
and physicalism (Identity theory). If sensations are caused by physical/material things for example
light the question based on this belief is whether sensations are material or immaterial from the given
example above (Identity theory). Putnam admits to a lot of claims made by Smart, they both share
similar views on identifying pain and other mental states with brain processes. Putman begins by
disagreeing with philosophers who maintain that pain states are brain states, and he calls this claim
unintelligible. He goes

Jacob Riis Land Of Opportunity
The United States of America is labeled as the land of opportunity . It s been known to many that
anyone who travels and settles here would live a better life. But based on history, the stories of
millions of immigrants contradict the perceptions people had about this country. Especially in New
York, hundreds of thousands of immigrants found their way to America just to struggle to survive in
the tenement housing for the remainder of their lives. This was their lifestyle until people such as
Jacob Riis, the social workers of the settlement houses, and the participants in the Ladies Garment
Worker Union wanted to change things. Jacob Riis was a Christian Dutch writer who believed that
those who were wealthy and able to make change were the ones to improve immigrant housing to
follow the footsteps of Christ to serve the homeless, hungry, and needy. According to him, where these
immigrants lived was the biggest issue. The Jewish, Chinese, Italian, Irish, and others were not housed
decently and they were in no circumstances moving anywhere. Jacob Riis thought of three solutions to
fix the tenement housing issue: using the law against the landowners, reconstructing the old tenement
houses, and building new model tenements. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Riis writes that the tenants who were living in the new homes were living peacefully with each other
because everyone had more room to breathe. One new shiny house can influence and improve the
character of the whole tenement housing block because that new house sets the standard for the other
houses to be fixed as well. As for the landowners, they receive up to five or six percent of profit. Some
may not be satisfied but Riis claims that it is the landowners responsibility to look over all of his/her
tenement property and make sure it is in the best condition especially after the horrible conditions they
forced the immigrants to live

The Dichotomy Here By Jessie Likes And Loves Your Parents
How is it, after all the years of devotion from your family, we now have a daughter in law who
behaves as though she was attending a funeral when we are around? You have said from the beginning
she loves us so much and is fearful of doing or saying anything to cause us to dislike her. Can you
imagine going through any of the above stated with your son or daughter?
The dichotomy here is that Jessie likes and loves your parents, but you say she finds your mother s
gestures of kindness and caring as sometimes insincere, intrusive, etc., and senses your mother wants
more in the relationship than she. In some sense, your wife finds your parents offensive to her
sensibilities. Do you not ponder the facts? At some point, as sweet and ... Show more content on

We must have loyalty and allegiance to have the characteristics of a healthy functioning family. The
problems arose when your wife included only you in her issues regarding your parents. You were
triangulated into a third person used to arbitrate or judge. It is never productive for a fully functioning
family. If any two people within a family have issues arise it has to remain between them and not
involve third party arbitration. It should always be in private, one on one, and by getting out of one s
comfort zone, even if it is not in the scope of one s normal behavior. Every family, no doubt, has a
dysfunction, but this has been a colossal misjudgment regarding best laid intentions.
The following quotation aptly describes what you, Dad, and I learned from your grade school
psychologist, when he explained triangulation within our family. At that time, you were using this
dynamic to pit one parent against the other. ( As leaders, we are extremely vulnerable to being
triangulated and it s very unhealthy for the unity of a company. Triangulation involves a cast of three
characters, the villain, the victim and the rescuer. If you are constantly fixing relational problems that
others should fix for themselves you are probably being triangulated ).
Through the depths of the challenge one breaks through and accepts people for all of their usual,
normal, characteristic selves. When there is no empathy for one s perception of

sine bar with the help of gauge blocks and a dial gauge or a spirit level. The aim of a measurement is
to make the surface on which the dial gauge or spirit level is placed horizontal. For example, to
measure the angle of a wedge, the wedge is placed on a horizontal table. The sine bar is placed over
the inclined surface of the wedge. At this position, the top surface of the sine bar is inclined the same
amount as the wedge. Using gauge blocks, the top surface is made horizontal. The sine of the angle of

Barcelona and Real Madrid have been rivals since the beginning of soccer itself. They have always

and Real Madrid have similar offense and defense they are different because of their managers over
the years. Their major difference is the managers they have had in past. As an organization they have
always been similar being two of the biggest soccer clubs in the world. Their managers and how they

How Did The Intolerable Acts Impact The Boston Tea Party
The Intolerable Acts Impact Imagine being a parent of a rebellious child, and this child causes trouble,
so you give him what you think is a fair punishment, but instead of correcting him, this blows this
situation out of proportions and chaos erupts between parent and child. The rebellious child did not
appreciate the rules that the strict parent was giving him, so he took action and caused an uproar. The
parent that was previously mentioned is clearly being England while the rebellious child is Colonial
America. The British thought the Intolerable Acts were a fair punishment for actions committed by the
colonists like the Boston Tea Party. Once the Intolerable Acts were imposed, the rules got a negative

The Intolerable Acts were just as bad as they sound: a combination of multiple acts also called the
Coercive Acts which is a pretty generous euphemism considering the Acts were harsh. A few of these
acts included: The Quartering Act allowed soldiers to enter a family s house without means, which
made people feel deprived of certain rights they felt they deserved (Pavao). The Massachusetts Act
does not seem awful on the surface, but the intention of the act was to limit the people of
Massachusetts independence. The King shut down ports in the Boston Port Act, which makes sense
considering the amount of tea wasted in the Boston Tea Party. The Quebec Act limited the colonists
attempts to western expansion by expanding French land ( Quebec ). The Administration of Justice
Act was basically the Murder Act, were any British officer involved in a crime would hold trial in
Britain, where they were practically allowed to get away with anything. This angered the colonists
because British officers could get away with murder (Pavao). The Administration of Justice Act was
particularly despicable because it is the equivalent to giving a modern day vigilante full immunity and

Passive Solar Heatinging Is Based On The Principles Of...
Passive solar heating The principle of passive solar heating is based on the collection of short wave
solar radiation in (building) mass that in return disperses long wave heat radiation that can be used for
space heating.
Earth coupling The general idea behind earth coupling is to take advantage of the earth s large thermal
storage capacity. Ground temperatures are quite stable at relatively small depths and are quite similar
to the local annual average ambient temperature. Near the surface ground temperatures are more
influenced by dynamic ambient conditions.
Night sky cooling The effective temperature of a sky at night is typically much lower than ambient
conditions.
Therefore buildings cool down at night by radiating heat to the sky. This phenomenon also occurs
during daytime but is then levelled out by solar radiation.
Natural air cooling Natural air flows can be used to remove unwanted heat from a building by flushing
the building with large volumes of (cool) air. Natural air cooling is based upon the natural ventilation
principle of cross ventilation: openings on both sides of the building allow natural occurring winds to
pass through the building carrying the heat along.
Evaporative cooling Evaporative cooling is based on the fact that energy is needed for the evaporation
of water. If this energy is withdrawn from the building, it will instantly cool down the building. Just
the presence of groundwater or surface water will bring about a cooling effect on its direct

Arguments Of Proponents And Opponents Of The Safe And...
After presenting the arguments of proponents and opponents of the Safe and Accurate Food Labeling
Act. This paper will now analyze each issue to determine the strengths and weakness of each side s
argument. One argument that proponents make about genetically modified food is that they are no
different than natural foods. An argument that opponents make is that genetically modified organisms
have not been tested enough because they are fairly new and some scientist truly don t have an
understanding of how it will affect humans bodies differently than natural foods. Proponents argue
that genetically engineered foods have no needs for labeling; it would lead to consumer confusion.
Opponents argue that consumers have the right to know what is in the foods they are eating and
supporting.
Analysis and evaluation of proponent s evidence
The analysis and evaluation the proponent s use for of the Safe and Accurate Food Labeling Act come
from many scientific organizations and governmental organizations. Proponents believe that it is more
important to try to feed the world, and solve world hunger than it is to worry about labeling
genetically engineered foods. Since their argument is about how genetically engineered foods should
not have a labeling requirement due to the fact these foods are no different it would essentially cause
more confusion to the public. Some studies conducted by the companies producing the biotech crops

Week 8 Case Study JetBlue Man Hon Chan 22002960 Introduction An initial public offering (IPO)
refers to the initial stage of shares offering to the public market for subscriptions by a company to
raise capital for the purpose of expansion. It is considered as a big issue for companies as an IPO does
not necessary guarantee the success of a company as it is merely a tool of raising capital while its
costs of issuance and consecutive monitoring costs (due to diluted shareholdings of the company by
public investors) are relatively higher than the cost of issuing corporate debt. Yet IPO is still a popular

In FCFE approach, the required rate of return by shareholders is required and can be calculated using
the CAPM model, which the information showed that the risk free rate (derived from yield from
treasury notes) and the estimated market risk premium are 5%, the beta implemented in the CAPM
model cannot be directly obtained since JetBlue has never been listed before hence a medium has to
be used which the Southwest beta of 1.6 is chosen given the characteristics and nature of the two
companies are similar hence is expected to be affected by similar systematic risk. The calculated
required rate of return therefore would be 5%+1.6(5%)=14%. In contrast, in the FCFF approach, a
weighted cost of capital (WACC) is required to use, which can be determined as the percentage of
debt to equity multiply by the cost of debt plus one minus the percentage of debt to equity multiply by
the cost of capital, or the required rate of return. The percentage of debt to equity is derived from the
balance sheet of JetBlue as 99%. The cost of debt can only be indirectly obtained from the current
debt structure of Southwest Airlines, the 7.375 debenture (with yield to maturity of 8.68%) is chosen
given it is a long term debt and to remain conservative. It is assumed that the long term debt of JetBlue
worth of $300m is separately obtained from three different sources. Thus the WACC is calculated as

Professor s Name: Executive Summary
With the advancement of the time, the companies are taking the step with information system as in the
previous time; the organisation does not work with the manual database. This information system
helps the company in keeping the information related to the company. In this study, database
management system has been taken, which plays a critical role in managing the information of the
company. This information system has multiple advantages as it provides clear indication about
centralised information system that keeps all types of sources. This information system helps the
organisation to access the data anytime. This information system also assists the organisation in
solving the data related issues and data redundancy.
In this study, Churchill Car Insurance Company has been chosen as this company requires the
database management system to store the data. This information system may have benefits; however,
maintenance cost leads to the cost increase. This process is not also easy as this can lead to creating
issue in revenue generation in short scale. Moreover, this information system can provide a

Dinosaurs As Endotherms
The reading and the lecture are about endotherms, which are living organism capable of maintaining
body temperature irrespective of their surrounding temperature. The author reports that new evidences
have come to light making dinosaurs more likely to be endotherms. The lecturer is against this belief.
He states that the new evidences aren t enough to consider dinosaurs as endotherms. First of all, the
author contends that polar dinosaur fossils are great evidences that dinosaurs are endotherms. This is
because only animals capable of maintaining a high enough body temperature will be able to move in
the polar regions. The lecturer believes otherwise. He mentions that the polar regions weren t as cold
as they are now. In addition, the polar

As manufacturers of high precision electronic test equipment, ABC Electronic Test Equipment is in a

Edward Lawler of the Center for Effective Organizations at the University of Southern California, the
author of many books on compensation, believes that employees value themselves in relation to the

Performance Based Strategy
Performance based pay strategy is a variable pay system which is intended to increase employee
productivity by rewarding employees based on their performance rather than paying based on the time
that an employee spends at work (Wisegeek). Due to the fact that performance based employees have
a vested interest in the success of the company their productivity is likely to improve which can lead
to the need for fewer employees to maintain production levels leading to a reduction in labor costs to
the employer. Studies have shown that time based employees only produce 50 to 60 percent of the
output of performance based employees (Atchinson).
Performance based pay plans are becoming increasingly utilized by companies across all industries as
they try to improve their productivity while limiting their costs and remaining competitive. An
effective performance based plan allows an employer to distribute some of the financial risk and
rewards of the business to the employees. The employer can keep base pay compensation below the
market average while still offering employees the opportunity to make more money than what is
offered at the high end of the market pay range. This leaves the employer less vulnerable to
fluctuations in the economic environment by lowering the fixed cost of wages (Miller, 2011).
There are many ways to implement a performance based plan but all require that goals be set,

The Impact of Exchange Rate Fluctuation on Macroeconomic...
THE IMPACT OF EXCHANGE RATE FLUCTUATION ON MACROECONOMIC
PERFORMANCE IN NIGERIA
CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
This study is designed to examine the causes of exchange rate fluctuations and their impact on the
Nigerian economy since there is scarcely any country that lives in absolute autarky in this globalised
world. The economies of all the countries of the world are linked directly or indirectly through asset
or/and goods markets. This linkage is made possible through trade and facilitated by foreign
exchange. The price of foreign currencies in terms of a local currency (i.e. foreign exchange) is
therefore important to the understanding of the growth trajectory of all countries of the world.
According to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
1.2 STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
In every country of the world, exchange rate level is the paramount target of economic policy
targeting. In other words, exchange rate policy should be geared towards the attainment of long term
equilibrium rate, so as to achieve certain macro economic objectives e.g. balance of payments
equilibrium, through proper management of the Nigerian exchange rate policy. The country started
operating the floating exchange rate system in 1986 after the introduction of SAP. It was expected that
the country experience development but the reverse was the case because the country suffered
consistent hopeless development situation as her naira depreciates often against other foreign
currencies, especially the dollars which was universally accepted as the global medium of exchange.
Before the floating system was introduced, $1=NO.89 but after that in 1966 we have $1=N22.05 and
even today we have $1=N150.7 .This is quite disheartening, regardless of the effort of the government
of Nigeria through the activities of the regulatory body such as the establishment of second tier
foreign exchange market (SFEM) in 1986 and interbank foreign exchange market (IFEM) in 1989 and
currently the foreign exchange market (AFEM) in 1995.
The depreciation of naira over the years has caused many firms especially the import dependent firms
to suffer many loses as a result of exchange rate fluctuations. This has further led to difficulty in

Hyksos And Egyptian Civilizations
Topic B In the Nile Valley, Egyptian civilization flourished. Around 1800 B.C.E., the Hyksos migrated
to the Nile Delta in search of land and entrance to the delta. The name, Hyksos, means rulers of the
uplands and was given to them by the Egyptians. With them, they brought methods of making bronze
and modeling it into weapons (Lecture Notes). They introduced the Egyptians to the composite bow
and horse drawn chariots. Essentially, the Hyksos revolutionized Egyptian warfare. Once they settled,
they began to adapt the ways of the Egyptians. They worshipped Egyptian deities and modeled their
political structures after the Egyptians (McKay, A History of World Societies, p.43). Though their
migration was most likely peaceful and gradual, they were later portrayed as dominating invaders
(McKay, A History of World Societies, p. 43). Similar to the Hyksos, the Aryans came to the Indus
Valley in search of fertile land. The Indus Valley was a large span of well watered, heavily forested
land, about ten to twenty times larger than Mesopotamia or Egypt (Indus Valley Civilization, slide 3).
The Aryans also compare to the Hyksos in that they were advanced in military technology, such as
bronze swords and spears, two wheeled chariots, and horses (McKay, A History of World Societies, p.
65). The Aryans differ, though, because they did not share these advances with the Harappan people
and instead used it against them. Still, their domination did not occur quickly. The Aryans only came

The Athletic And Sporting Goods Manufacturing Industry
Business Description
The Athletic and Sporting Goods Manufacturing industry includes the playground equipment segment
which is the focus of this analysis. The playground equipment segment accounts for 9.5% of the entire
industry. The top two competitors of playground equipment in Illinois and Iowa are Landscape
Structures and Kompan. Landscape Structures headquarters is located in Delano, Minnesota and
Kompan s headquarters is located in Tietgenbyen , Denmark. Other major competitors include
GameTime, NuToys, and Playtime.
Trends in Exchange Rates
The trend in exchange rates affect the amount of money a company pays to import and export
products. Within the industry of playground equipment, the focus will be on imports due to the high
volume of playground manufacturers being located outside of the United States. When the exchange
rate fluctuates a company could spend less on exports, but more for imported products. With many of
the manufacturers of playground equipment being foreign based, the exchange rate directly affects a
company s purchasing power. The exchange rate that will be focused on is the United States (Dollar)
and Denmark (Danish Krone) due to one of the top competitors in the playground industry being
located in Denmark. Figure X will show the fluctuations that can occur within a year. Firms in this
industry will find that most of the products they produce or sell are affected by exchange rates since
either the raw material for those products or the

The Change Management Model And Kotter s 8 Step Model
Academics such as Lewin and Kotter have outlined frameworks which fellow re searchers can refer to
when trying to implement organisational change successful ly. Although there are many theories
regarding change management, this research will focus Lewin s change management model and
Kotter s 8 step model. 3.1 Lewin change model The force field analysis by Lewin (1951) demonstrates
that there are three neces sary processes which organisation need to consider when processing or
imple menting change. The force field analysis aims to investigate the balance of power between the
driving forces of change and the resisting force or barriers to success ful change implementation. It
argues that there is a need to identify the key players involved in the decision making and identify
methods to influence those against change (Wagner et al. 2011). The term force refer to any factor that
has the potential of affecting the change process within the organisation (Schwering, 2003). The three
processes are specifically known as Unfreeze stage, Change stage and final ly Refreezing stage. The
unfreezing stage can be regarded to some degree as a pre stage to change. The point of this stage is to
get ready people to change and making the organisation prepared to move from the present position to
the new sought one. Since amid the unfreezing stage people could feel the present state of affairs
debilitated, it is urgent that the greater part of the representatives get to be mindful from the

P.K. Dick’s The Minority Report and Steven Spielberg’s...
P.K. Dick s The Minority Report and Steven Spielberg s The Minority Report
Death can occur in four ways. A person can die from a physical illness, viruses and infections. A
person can die from an accident. A person can commit suicide. Finally a person can be murdered by
another person. What if murders could be prevented? In P.K. Dick s story The Minority Report, and in
Spielberg s film The Minority Report, the future can be altered by using incredible technology. The
success of Spielberg s adaptation of Dick s short story to film can be determined by the way each was
presented.
While giving a tour or precrime to Edward Witwer, the main character John Anderton finds the he is
supposed to kill a person he never met Leopold ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Minority Report by Spielberg is about a one man conspiracy to keep pre crime up and running. In
the book by Dick, there is a larger conspiracy to destroy precrime. The final results are opposite as
well; in the book precrime was maintained and still operational. In the movie, precrime was shut down
and destroyed. The methods of precrime are also different. In the book, there are three precogs which
mutter an indecipherable language, which a machine interprets into images of a murder. Then a card
comes out of the machine with the name of the killer and name of the victim on it. Spielberg made a
more modern method out of this. In the movie, images are taken directly from the three precogs brain
and then interpreted by a person who tries to find out the location of the murder. Also there are two
wooden balls made, one with the name of the killer and the other with the name of the victim, on
them. The movie also goes deeper into the creation of precrime, how crack babies whom had an odd
gift/curse of dreaming of murder became used to prevent murder. It also shows why Anderton joined
precrime, to make sure no one else would suffer like he did when he lost his son. The precogs in the
book and movie are very different. First off their names in the book are Donna, Jerry and Mike. In the
movie their names are Agatha, Arthur and Dashiell. The movie also involves the precogs, or at least
one of them, more into the story.

Importance Of Democracy
There are varying definitions of what democracy is, but the general idea is that a democracy is a
governmental system where there is high and active political participation from all people who live in
that country, this political participation involves electing a government with fair elections. A
democracy should also give equality and freedom to all of its citizens. In this essay, I will discuss how
democracy has changed over time and how definitions differ, then, I will look at theories that explain
why a democracy may be more peaceful. Following this, I will begin to examine what the title of this
essay actually questions and give contextual examples to do so. I will finally conclude by giving my
response to the question Are democracies more peaceful? .
The first democracy was seen in Athens, Ancient Greece in the year 507 B.C by the leader Cleisthenes
with his system of reforms called Demokratia which translates to rule of the people . Although this
system allowed more than just high society to vote, out of all the people in Athens, only 40,000 were
allowed to vote, those being male citizens who were part of the demos and aged over 18 . This is
evidently different to the democracy we see today, particularly in western nations, for example, the
United Kingdom has been a democracy arguably since the introduction of the Representation of the
Peoples Acts in 1918 which permitted women to vote, and then the modification in 1928 which
allowed all men and women over

Illegal Firearm Possession And Illegal Firearms Possession
On February 28, 1997, Larry Phillips, Jr. and Emil Mătăsăreanu armed with AK 47s entered Bank of
America in North Hollywood in an attempt to rob it. Phillips had been in trouble with the police since
his youth and had already spent 3 months in jail for illegal firearm possession. Mătăsăreanu acted as
his loyal co conspirator. Not only were they wanted for armed robbery but also for murder, after
killing a security guard in a heist in 1995. Armed with five machine gun, three handguns, as well as
illegal 100 round drums. Parked in the north bank parking lot in a white 1987 Chevrolet Celebrity, the

already be on scene, Phillips and Mătăsăreanu were trapped in by blocking intersection north and
south of the bank with patrol cars, as well as a 2 meter high wall to the back of the bank. On Laurel
Canyon and Archwood Street, an intersection north of the bank, Officers Martin Whitfield and
Sergeant Dean Haines take a position. Seeing two civilians, Tracy Fisher and a friend, walking in the
direction of the bank Sergeant Daines orders them behind the his patrol car. Phillips opens fire on
police, bullets go through the patrol car police and the civilians were using as cover. Fisher s friend is
shot and Fisher was then shot in the leg. The bullets Phillips and Mătăsăreanu were using were steel
plates, which were able to penetrate car metal. Mătăsăreanu gets into the chevy and called for Phillips,
but Phillips stayed and Mătăsăreanu followed. Sergeant Haines is shot and radios for assistance.
Receiving the officer down call was 911 trainee Guadalupe De La Cruz, to which she then relays.
Parked in the parking lot across the street from the bank Officers James Zboravan and his partner
Steward Guy take cover behind a kiosk 40 meters away from the bank. Unlike the majority of the
Officers, Zboravan was armed with a Ithaca 12 ball pump action shotgun, which has double the range
of the standard 9mm. Zboravan and Guy are later joined by two plain clothes detectives as the

Tenochtitlan And Ix Summary
Tenochtitlan and Po. And Ix. Both took place in Mexico and both shared facts about Mexico and the
land in different ways. One mostly told a mythical story but talked about the landform as the other
talked about how people in Tenochtitlan and nonfictional facts about the land and city. So both are not
the same but they share some common interest. The Tenochtitlan story mainly told about a city in
Mexico and how they survived and lived. It describes how they developed on the island and how the
city first originated. Life over there was also involved with the Aztecs and why they made the choice
to move to a swampy land. Nowadays the city has been partly destroyed due to the Spanish and
Hernan Cortes which the ruins is today located near the center of Mexico City. Back then the whole

However, they re both located near the same city and both take place in Mexico. Tenochtitlan was
primarily based on an urban development structure as the other was based on a tragic romance based
on a bad lie told to the married warrior and princess. I m probably sure that they shared the same
culture since there both in the same country and possibly practice the same ceremonies and practices,
so yeah they could have some similarities and some could be contrasted. Both can t be compared too
easily mostly because of the type of story it is and because of what they tell about, but they did have
some similarities on the other hand. They both took place in Mexico and were located near Mexico
City. So mainly they were stories held in Mexico and both did traditions in the same culture. Yeah I
could say that there wasn t extreme differences, but they do have some similarities hiding in the back.

Why Are The Inca Buildings Important
Inca s Buildings, and Tools
The Inca s tools and buildings were mainly made of stone, and a little bit of wood in their
buildings, but what is fascinating about them is how they built their houses. Stone tools were important
to the Incas life because wooden tools couldn t break stones, and their structures were made of stone
(limestone or/and granite). Since the stone buildings were important( Machu Picchu or the city on the
Andes mountains were also important), to the Incas way of life so it would be the top left corner in the

Growing crops in flat and fertile areas and hunting were important to the Inca, because without food,
they can t survive. They would keep their soil fertile, they used llama dung, which was one of the
animals they worshiped, along with Alpacas. And for hunting, they used spears to kill animals and nets
to catch them. So the farms and hunting will be shown around the center and the left and right corners
(crops on the left where the Inca village is, and the hunters will go somewhere around the top left of
the exhibit) of the exhibit. In order to have farming tools and weapons, they had to build/craft in order
to farm or hunt. The most important people there in the Inca were their government/leaders, because
without the government/leaders they wouldn t know how to work things out together with one another.
They will be shown to the center front of the exhibit. Making clothes were another job that some Inca
had to do, because without clothes, they can get cold during winter. The Incas made clothes using
llama wool and animal skins. This could be shown somewhere around the village, showing someone
making/hanging clothes. Teaching was another important job. Teaching helped children learn to talk,
write, and learn to do many other things. Without it, children would grow up not knowing how to
communicate while working, writing, and not even knowing how to do jobs. Teaching will be shown

World War I And The Great Depression
Origin and history
As Canada was maturing, many currencies were circulating throughout the colonies. It was not until
the Province of Canada s revised Currency Act of 1857 that dollars and cents were recognized as the
only official units of Canadian currency (Vardy, J., 2005, p 3) Silver and bronze coins, denominated in
cents and bearing the word Canada issued for the first time in 1858, were the first distinctive Canadian
Currency . This currency was referred to as Dominion Notes and could be issued by commercial
banks, private enterprises and governments (Vardy, J. , 2005,p 3). These notes became the official
currency of Canada in 1876 (Vardy, J., 2005, p 3).

1935.
The Bank of Canada immediately took over bank note operations from the Department of Finance.
Offices of the Receiver General across the country became agencies of the new central bank. The
Foreign Exchange and Securities Divisions started work right away, and a Research Division was
established to advise on financial developments and business conditions (Watts, G., Rymes, T., 1993,
p.9). Vardy, J. states in the The Bank of Canada: An illustrated history that the Bank of Canada was
privately owned with shares (at a par value of $50) sold to the public. Soon after the Bank began
operations, a new government introduces an amendment to the Bank of Canada Act to nationalize the
institution. In 1938, the privately held shares were purchased by the government and the Bank became
entirely publically owned (Watts, G., Rymes, T., 1993, p.9) as it remains today.
Structure and role
The Bank of Canada is a central bank and not a commercial bank. In other words it does not deal with
the general public or business transactions. The Band of Canada deals with the Canadian government
and some Canadian, Foreign central banks and international financial institutions. The Bank of
Canada s role in the economic life of Canada and its citizens is to keep inflations low and stable and is
aimed at keeping the inflation predictable by incorporating monetary policies that influence the level
of interest

Philosophy And Bertrand Russell s The Nature Of Philosophy
In The Nature of Philosophy by Bertrand Russell, it is said that if the study of philosophy has any
value at all for others than students of philosophy, it must be only indirectly, through its effects upon
the lives of those who study it . As such, the real value of philosophy comes from its study, and this
study should be compulsory in schools. This is due to its teaching of logic, rationality, and critical
thinking. This is also due to the course s teaching of the value of ethics. Finally, philosophy should be
made a compulsory subject as it has benefits that will positively affect a student s performance outside
of high school, in post secondary education and beyond.
The importance of logic and rationality in life should not be understated, and as philosophy teaches
logic to its students, it should thusly be made mandatory. A rather common sentiment is that too many
people are taken advantage of because of their lack of critical thinking, logic and deductive reasoning .
With a prevalence of advertisements and large figures in the media trying to persuade others to believe
them, a mandatory philosophy class would teach students how to effectively apply logic so that they
will no longer be taken advantage of when facing premises in the media and in the world around them
that have less to do with a sound argument and more to do with rhetorical devices. Rick Lewis writes
that philosophy is based upon logic and reasoning, and that learning how to use logic is critical

This is The Wilderness Explosions in the Sky by Jacob van Loon
I particularly like this art piece because it is complex, contrasting, and portrays certain moods and
images.
To start, this painting was made by drawing many overlapping straight lines, and painting over it with
a lacquer, then he repeated this step several more times. He then filled each shape with blue or orange
watercolor paint. You can see where the paint leaks out in some places, this provides a balanced ratio
of geometric and abstract shapes. The blending also softens the contrast between the two colors.
I ve concluded that the painting makes me think of an apocalypse now scenario. Its looks similar to an
office building with the sky reflecting off glass panes.

Captain Knows Analysis
Often times in a theatre troupe, three different groups tend to stand out amongst the crowd. In this
troupe, there are the Captain Knows how s, the Diamond Shiner s, and the Queen s of Drama. They all
have their perks, except when their special instincts take over and steal the show.
The first group is the Captain Knows how s. This group is often the shy, quiet personality in the whole
troupe. However, if the director needs a task done they always find this group. No matter what, or how
hard the task is, the Captain Knows how s will never cease to amaze. Beware, they may seem friendly,
but if caught in the midst of them and without a tool in hand, know that death is near. This group is
also known to be blessed with patience , because they sit with the Queens of Drama when they need a
hand. Nevertheless, this group knows how to get the job done and a phrase commonly heard is, Trust

careful in speaking with a member of this group because you may lose the love of a song, due to their

group with the occasional conversation with an outsider. Just because they sing every song ever
written, does not imply that they can remember every song. However, if started in the right track they
will sing the lyrics until they are threatened to stop. These individuals are also mainly the ones that are
seen as the leads in a play production. They are secretly hated by everyone, but everyone knows that

  • 3. A Brief Note On Workers Creating Their Own Exploitation Soc 101 Alexandria Todoruk S.Enns Section 03 September 20,2014 Workers Creating Their Own Exploitation In a modern society we are led to believe that there is a fair exchange taking place when workers(working force?) sells their labour power ( Gary Lapon, 2011.).( define this) Karl Marx believed that the working class were being exploited through laborious jobs. In today s society wages are determined by the current cost of living within provinces across Canada. Usually the wage workers receive do not allow for many to live a comfortable life yet we continue to work these jobs as they feel we have no other option. This feeling of desperation comes from the term wage slavery (cite ), where one feels as though they are stuck working a job that makes them unhappy, so they remain feeling successful or are able to meet the cost of living. As a result of wage slavery, employees come into work on days that they had previously booked off, are frightened to call in sick when sick and often take abuse from their boss. Employees are showing up with their work persona, believing that these low wages are equal when in reality they are not (S.Enns, 2014) Employers profit from their employees without employees being completely aware of it. Employers want their workers to produce more and produce it efficiently, without increasing the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Iganga Nursing Literature Review Our findings indicated that health workers perceived reviews as part of continuous quality improvement that emanated from the general routine work and cultural environment within the hospital. We think this contributed to a continuous MPDR practice within the hospital despite of the challenges faced. It was revealed in other studies that the most successful reviews were characterized by three interdependent, supportive cultural factors which are supportive health professionals, supportive institutional culture and supportive political and policy environment14. It was also revealed that the perceptions held by the health workers about MPDRs also varied from one study to another. The perceptions held by health workers in Thyolo, Malawi were ... This is similar for the study findings that investigated the MPDR system in Tanzania which was a major barrier to effective MPDR6,20,23. Most respondents reported that MPDR was important in improving their professional practice and ethical code of conduct. However, it is difficult to ascertain the weight of each activity in the improvement of care16,27. Our findings revealed that mentorships greatly supported health workers conduct reviews. This is not revealed in other studies as a strategy for supporting health workers realize effective reviews in Thyolo District of Malawi, Ifakara in Tanzania and Senegal 8,11 23.The health workers revealed that the reviews helped them to improve the quality of care which in other studies quality of care is not easily measured and effect takes a long time where mistakes are repeatedly done16,25,27. Health workers desire to change but the context of implementation has to count16, 26. In Uganda, it was reported that some of the maternal death within hospitals happened at a time of staff handover or change in work shifts19,27. Supportive health professionals: doctors, midwives and nurses make all the difference between the success and failure of reviews 14,21.Success also depends on accountability of both care providers (frontline) and decision makers8,19. • 5. Child Abuse And It s Connection With Social Work Child Abuse and It s Connection with Social Work Amanda Miller SWK 3301 01 Child Abuse and It s Connection with Social Work Childhood should be carefree, playing in the sun; not living a nightmare in the darkness of the soul (Pelzer, 1995, p. 166). Various discussions, studies, and ethical problems are formed around the topic of child abuse. Child abuse, defined by the Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act (CAPTA), is any recent act or failure to act on the part of a parent or caretaker which results in death, serious physical or emotional harm, sexual abuse or exploitation ; or an act or failure to act which presents an imminent risk of serious harm. (Gateway, 2013) This leaves a large area for speculation on whether situations are covered under this definition. Nonetheless, child abuse is an unfortunate and growing problem in society today. With several causes such as poverty, parents who do not know any differently, and behavioral issues. These are all areas that social workers deal with on a day to day basis. Why child abuse? There are many outlooks involving values that form social work through ethical, personal, and professional. As far as ethically, social work can become very challenging for the social worker themselves. This is because of the ethical dilemmas emerge in certain cases when social workers have to choose between their duties, values, and rights. These arises due to some of the obligations that are expected of them colliding with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Field Hockey Practice At Phillips Exeter Academy As we are lining up for drills in field hockey practice, one of my coaches, Marissa, looks over at me and asks, Who is that all the way across the field in those red tights? (B+) I respond, Of course it is Casey, who else has as much team spirit that they would wear those tights to practice?. Casey is dressed in red, metallic tights underneath a white skirt with a vibrant, blue long sleeve t shirt; our spirit dress at practice is America in order to get excited for our game tomorrow at Phillips Exeter Academy. Sarah Plumb and Marissa Gedman come over to tell us to go sit in a circle in the middle of the field, giving Casey and Maura space. Not wanting to leave Casey s side, I reluctantly walk over to the middle of the field. As I am walking away, my legs feel heavy and unreliable while they wobble beneath me. Some of my teammates begin yelling to the trainers at the soccer field above to come quickly and that it is an emergency. Almost instantaneously, I hear the zooming of the trainer s golf cart come rushing over. My legs keep walking away from Casey, even though it is not what I want them to do. I reach the circle of my teammates, and I slowly lower myself to the ground. I sit cross legged with a glare fixed on the ground in front of me; the forest green, artificial grass pokes through the densely packed, black, rubber pellets. I pull at pieces of this grass and fiddle with the rubber pellets, pushing them into my sweaty palm and seeing if they will leave indentations. I continue to do this as I see the coaches come over to update us, Girls, we want to warn you that we will have to call an ambulance, but we are hoping it is just an allergic reaction that Casey is having. My eyes start to well with tears of confusion and anger. I begin to fiercely pull the artificial grass apart to relieve my frustrations. My vision remains fixated on the turf, and I am lost in my own thoughts as I question the situation around me for some ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Ethics And Infinity By Emmanuel Levinas Ethics and Infinity by Emmanuel Levinas The works of Emmanuel Levinas are considered to be hugely influential within the philosophical disciplines of twentieth century ethics and existentialism, but unfortunately the convolution and misrepresentation of his thinking often results in miscomprehension of his ideas. Totality and Infinity: A Book on Exteriority is one of Levinas earlier works (published in 1961 in French and 1969 in English) that has garnered much attention and praise from writers across a multitude of disciplines (not just philosophy) for the fact that it deals with the widely applicable subject of relations toward and perception of the Other from the perspective of the self. Throughout the book, the author demonstrates the manner in which subjectivity begins from the idea of perpetuity, and how the infinite is an outcome of the correlation of self and Other. The main purpose of Levinas work is to find out the dominance of the Other based on the epiphany of the face. According to his work, infinite is the beginning or foundation of ethics and, he also declines any ethical intellectualism. Levinas acknowledges the idea that not every human being is inherently ethical per se but he or she is an aspiration of Others. Therefore, the remaining part of this paper will focus on sexuality, which is one of the themes that the writer encountered Sexual encounter Sex is a powerful act that has the ability to transform an individual s self experience, change ... The Problem Of Self State Conscious state according to dictionary.com is being aware of one s own existence these may involve thoughts, sensations (images, aches, pain, visual, auditory and tactual sensation etc.). Smart refuses to admit to the fact that sensations are irreducibly psychical because of Occam s razor (which suggests that such matters should not even be put into consideration). He affirms there is no philosophical argument that compels us to be dualist, he writes I am in pain is a genuine report, and that what it reports is an irreducibly psychical something (Adler and Elgin 384). From this context he believes that by claiming one is in pain one is reporting something, which is over and above, (something unexplainable beyond the human ... He reduced behaviours to dispositions and he classified them as being brain processes an example he gives an example of New Zealanders and the English who both refer to Venus when one group refers to it as Morning Star and the other as Evening Star his aims is to show that sensations may be similar but with different physical phenomenon. For example two people may be identical in their appearances but might have different properties. The question might be asked, that even if sensations are identical with brain processes, are there not introspected non physical properties of sensations that are not identical with properties of brain processes? (Identity theory) . To dispel this thought smart adopts topic neutral a narrower sense of being neutral to dualism and physicalism (Identity theory). If sensations are caused by physical/material things for example light the question based on this belief is whether sensations are material or immaterial from the given example above (Identity theory). Putnam admits to a lot of claims made by Smart, they both share similar views on identifying pain and other mental states with brain processes. • 11. Jacob Riis Land Of Opportunity The United States of America is labeled as the land of opportunity . It s been known to many that anyone who travels and settles here would live a better life. But based on history, the stories of millions of immigrants contradict the perceptions people had about this country. Especially in New York, hundreds of thousands of immigrants found their way to America just to struggle to survive in the tenement housing for the remainder of their lives. This was their lifestyle until people such as Jacob Riis, the social workers of the settlement houses, and the participants in the Ladies Garment Worker Union wanted to change things. Jacob Riis was a Christian Dutch writer who believed that those who were wealthy and able to make change were the ones to improve immigrant housing to follow the footsteps of Christ to serve the homeless, hungry, and needy. According to him, where these immigrants lived was the biggest issue. The Jewish, Chinese, Italian, Irish, and others were not housed decently and they were in no circumstances moving anywhere. Jacob Riis thought of three solutions to fix the tenement housing issue: using the law against the landowners, reconstructing the old tenement houses, and building new model tenements. ... One new shiny house can influence and improve the character of the whole tenement housing block because that new house sets the standard for the other houses to be fixed as well. As for the landowners, they receive up to five or six percent of profit. The Dichotomy Here By Jessie Likes And Loves Your Parents How is it, after all the years of devotion from your family, we now have a daughter in law who behaves as though she was attending a funeral when we are around? You have said from the beginning she loves us so much and is fearful of doing or saying anything to cause us to dislike her. Can you imagine going through any of the above stated with your son or daughter? The dichotomy here is that Jessie likes and loves your parents, but you say she finds your mother s gestures of kindness and caring as sometimes insincere, intrusive, etc., and senses your mother wants more in the relationship than she. We must have loyalty and allegiance to have the characteristics of a healthy functioning family. The problems arose when your wife included only you in her issues regarding your parents. You were triangulated into a third person used to arbitrate or judge. It is never productive for a fully functioning family. If any two people within a family have issues arise it has to remain between them and not involve third party arbitration. It should always be in private, one on one, and by getting out of one s comfort zone, even if it is not in the scope of one s normal behavior. Every family, no doubt, has a dysfunction, but this has been a colossal misjudgment regarding best laid intentions. The following quotation aptly describes what you, Dad, and I learned from your grade school psychologist, when he explained triangulation within our family. At that time, you were using this dynamic to pit one parent against the other. ( As leaders, we are extremely vulnerable to being triangulated and it s very unhealthy for the unity of a company. Triangulation involves a cast of three characters, the villain, the victim and the rescuer. If you are constantly fixing relational problems that others should fix for themselves you are probably being triangulated ). • 17. Passive Solar Heatinging Is Based On The Principles Of... Passive solar heating The principle of passive solar heating is based on the collection of short wave solar radiation in (building) mass that in return disperses long wave heat radiation that can be used for space heating. Earth coupling The general idea behind earth coupling is to take advantage of the earth s large thermal storage capacity. Ground temperatures are quite stable at relatively small depths and are quite similar to the local annual average ambient temperature. Near the surface ground temperatures are more influenced by dynamic ambient conditions. Night sky cooling The effective temperature of a sky at night is typically much lower than ambient conditions. Therefore buildings cool down at night by radiating heat to the sky. This phenomenon also occurs during daytime but is then levelled out by solar radiation. Natural air cooling Natural air flows can be used to remove unwanted heat from a building by flushing the building with large volumes of (cool) air. Natural air cooling is based upon the natural ventilation principle of cross ventilation: openings on both sides of the building allow natural occurring winds to pass through the building carrying the heat along. Evaporative cooling Evaporative cooling is based on the fact that energy is needed for the evaporation of water. If this energy is withdrawn from the building, it will instantly cool down the building. Just the presence of groundwater or surface water will bring about a cooling effect on its direct ... One argument that proponents make about genetically modified food is that they are no different than natural foods. An argument that opponents make is that genetically modified organisms have not been tested enough because they are fairly new and some scientist truly don t have an understanding of how it will affect humans bodies differently than natural foods. Proponents argue that genetically engineered foods have no needs for labeling; it would lead to consumer confusion. Opponents argue that consumers have the right to know what is in the foods they are eating and supporting. Proponents believe that it is more important to try to feed the world, and solve world hunger than it is to worry about labeling genetically engineered foods. In contrast, in the FCFF approach, a weighted cost of capital (WACC) is required to use, which can be determined as the percentage of debt to equity multiply by the cost of debt plus one minus the percentage of debt to equity multiply by the cost of capital, or the required rate of return. Performance Based Strategy Performance based pay strategy is a variable pay system which is intended to increase employee productivity by rewarding employees based on their performance rather than paying based on the time that an employee spends at work (Wisegeek). Due to the fact that performance based employees have a vested interest in the success of the company their productivity is likely to improve which can lead to the need for fewer employees to maintain production levels leading to a reduction in labor costs to the employer. Studies have shown that time based employees only produce 50 to 60 percent of the output of performance based employees (Atchinson). Performance based pay plans are becoming increasingly utilized by companies across all industries as they try to improve their productivity while limiting their costs and remaining competitive. An effective performance based plan allows an employer to distribute some of the financial risk and rewards of the business to the employees. The employer can keep base pay compensation below the market average while still offering employees the opportunity to make more money than what is offered at the high end of the market pay range. This leaves the employer less vulnerable to fluctuations in the economic environment by lowering the fixed cost of wages (Miller, 2011). The economies of all the countries of the world are linked directly or indirectly through asset or/and goods markets. This linkage is made possible through trade and facilitated by foreign exchange. In other words, exchange rate policy should be geared towards the attainment of long term equilibrium rate, so as to achieve certain macro economic objectives e.g. balance of payments equilibrium, through proper management of the Nigerian exchange rate policy. The country started operating the floating exchange rate system in 1986 after the introduction of SAP. It was expected that the country experience development but the reverse was the case because the country suffered consistent hopeless development situation as her naira depreciates often against other foreign currencies, especially the dollars which was universally accepted as the global medium of exchange. The depreciation of naira over the years has caused many firms especially the import dependent firms to suffer many loses as a result of exchange rate fluctuations. Around 1800 B.C.E., the Hyksos migrated to the Nile Delta in search of land and entrance to the delta. The name, Hyksos, means rulers of the uplands and was given to them by the Egyptians. With them, they brought methods of making bronze and modeling it into weapons (Lecture Notes). They introduced the Egyptians to the composite bow and horse drawn chariots. Essentially, the Hyksos revolutionized Egyptian warfare. Once they settled, they began to adapt the ways of the Egyptians. They worshipped Egyptian deities and modeled their political structures after the Egyptians (McKay, A History of World Societies, p.43). Though their migration was most likely peaceful and gradual, they were later portrayed as dominating invaders (McKay, A History of World Societies, p. 43). Similar to the Hyksos, the Aryans came to the Indus Valley in search of fertile land. The Indus Valley was a large span of well watered, heavily forested land, about ten to twenty times larger than Mesopotamia or Egypt (Indus Valley Civilization, slide 3). The Aryans also compare to the Hyksos in that they were advanced in military technology, such as bronze swords and spears, two wheeled chariots, and horses (McKay, A History of World Societies, p. 65). The force field analysis aims to investigate the balance of power between the driving forces of change and the resisting force or barriers to success ful change implementation. In the book, there are three precogs which mutter an indecipherable language, which a machine interprets into images of a murder. Then a card comes out of the machine with the name of the killer and name of the victim on it. Spielberg made a more modern method out of this. Importance Of Democracy There are varying definitions of what democracy is, but the general idea is that a democracy is a governmental system where there is high and active political participation from all people who live in that country, this political participation involves electing a government with fair elections. A democracy should also give equality and freedom to all of its citizens. In this essay, I will discuss how democracy has changed over time and how definitions differ, then, I will look at theories that explain why a democracy may be more peaceful. Following this, I will begin to examine what the title of this essay actually questions and give contextual examples to do so. I will finally conclude by giving my response to the question Are democracies more peaceful? . The first democracy was seen in Athens, Ancient Greece in the year 507 B.C by the leader Cleisthenes with his system of reforms called Demokratia which translates to rule of the people . Although this system allowed more than just high society to vote, out of all the people in Athens, only 40,000 were allowed to vote, those being male citizens who were part of the demos and aged over 18 . This is evidently different to the democracy we see today, particularly in western nations, for example, the United Kingdom has been a democracy arguably since the introduction of the Representation of the Peoples Acts in 1918 which permitted women to vote, and then the modification in 1928 which allowed all men and women over ... I m probably sure that they shared the same culture since there both in the same country and possibly practice the same ceremonies and practices, so yeah they could have some similarities and some could be contrasted. Both can t be compared too easily mostly because of the type of story it is and because of what they tell about, but they did have some similarities on the other hand. They both took place in Mexico and were located near Mexico City. So mainly they were stories held in Mexico and both did traditions in the same culture. Why Are The Inca Buildings Important Inca s Buildings, and Tools The Inca s tools and buildings were mainly made of stone, and a little bit of wood in their buildings, but what is fascinating about them is how they built their houses. Stone tools were important to the Incas life because wooden tools couldn t break stones, and their structures were made of stone (limestone or/and granite). Since the stone buildings were important( Machu Picchu or the city on the Andes mountains were also important), to the Incas way of life so it would be the top left corner in the exhibit. Growing crops in flat and fertile areas and hunting were important to the Inca, because without food, they can t survive. They would keep their soil fertile, they used llama dung, which was one of the animals they worshiped, along with Alpacas. And for hunting, they used spears to kill animals and nets to catch them. So the farms and hunting will be shown around the center and the left and right corners (crops on the left where the Inca village is, and the hunters will go somewhere around the top left of the exhibit) of the exhibit. In order to have farming tools and weapons, they had to build/craft in order to farm or hunt. The most important people there in the Inca were their government/leaders, because without the government/leaders they wouldn t know how to work things out together with one another. They will be shown to the center front of the exhibit. Making clothes were another job that some Inca had to do, because without clothes, they can get cold during winter. The Incas made clothes using llama wool and animal skins. This could be shown somewhere around the village, showing someone making/hanging clothes. Teaching was another important job. Teaching helped children learn to talk, write, and learn to do many other things. Without it, children would grow up not knowing how to communicate while working, writing, and not even knowing how to do jobs. Teaching will be shown around where the mountains are, which will be ... • 34. World War I And The Great Depression Origin and history As Canada was maturing, many currencies were circulating throughout the colonies. It was not until the Province of Canada s revised Currency Act of 1857 that dollars and cents were recognized as the only official units of Canadian currency (Vardy, J., 2005, p 3) Silver and bronze coins, denominated in cents and bearing the word Canada issued for the first time in 1858, were the first distinctive Canadian Currency . This currency was referred to as Dominion Notes and could be issued by commercial banks, private enterprises and governments (Vardy, J. , 2005,p 3). These notes became the official currency of Canada in 1876 (Vardy, J., 2005, p 3). World War I and the great depression triggered a need to create ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 1935. The Bank of Canada immediately took over bank note operations from the Department of Finance. Offices of the Receiver General across the country became agencies of the new central bank. The Foreign Exchange and Securities Divisions started work right away, and a Research Division was established to advise on financial developments and business conditions (Watts, G., Rymes, T., 1993, p.9). Vardy, J. states in the The Bank of Canada: An illustrated history that the Bank of Canada was privately owned with shares (at a par value of $50) sold to the public. Soon after the Bank began operations, a new government introduces an amendment to the Bank of Canada Act to nationalize the institution. In 1938, the privately held shares were purchased by the government and the Bank became entirely publically owned (Watts, G., Rymes, T., 1993, p.9) as it remains today. Structure and role The Bank of Canada is a central bank and not a commercial bank. In other words it does not deal with the general public or business transactions. The Band of Canada deals with the Canadian government and some Canadian, Foreign central banks and international financial institutions. The Bank of Canada s role in the economic life of Canada and its citizens is to keep inflations low and stable and is aimed at keeping the inflation predictable by incorporating monetary policies that influence the level of interest ... • 35. Trauma Stewardship Essay Total hours completed in Children s Hope Foster Agency 28:45 hours. As I begin my internship, I notice the importance of what a social worker is. A social worker has an important role in a child new life. It s important to know the boundaries and my professional roles. As a social worker is important to be fully present with their experiences as explained on the Trauma Stewardship book. As any other person I have my own culture and values; one of them that would help me to be a social worker is that I m a good listener, and I m good in finding information either by asking or looking on the internet. There are some areas I would like to practice; I would like to be able to make conversations. I understand that as a social worker it s very important to start a good conversation to get a respond. I want to be able to engage in a good conversation with children and adults. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Also to be mindful and aware of the current situation. It s important to be open minded and respect others point of view. We have to listen to ourselves first, so we can listen to others. As we try to help we have to ask many questions and decide which intervention will be better for the client. Sometimes instead of being part of the solution we are part of the problem. My personal boundaries are not to be too attach to a child, but at the same time make the child feel he/she is the most important personal in the world. To be able to draw that line. To understand why they are in the system, but to not let them use it as an excuse to do bad things. Some important boundaries the agency requires are to keep everything confidential and know the boundaries with the children and foster parents. To be able to know what I can and cannot do. Most important of all, to ask my supervisor if I m not sure what to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Philosophy And Bertrand Russell s The Nature Of Philosophy In The Nature of Philosophy by Bertrand Russell, it is said that if the study of philosophy has any value at all for others than students of philosophy, it must be only indirectly, through its effects upon the lives of those who study it . As such, the real value of philosophy comes from its study, and this study should be compulsory in schools. This is due to its teaching of logic, rationality, and critical thinking. This is also due to the course s teaching of the value of ethics. Finally, philosophy should be made a compulsory subject as it has benefits that will positively affect a student s performance outside of high school, in post secondary education and beyond. The importance of logic and rationality in life should not be understated, and as philosophy teaches logic to its students, it should thusly be made mandatory. A rather common sentiment is that too many people are taken advantage of because of their lack of critical thinking, logic and deductive reasoning . With a prevalence of advertisements and large figures in the media trying to persuade others to believe them, a mandatory philosophy class would teach students how to effectively apply logic so that they will no longer be taken advantage of when facing premises in the media and in the world around them that have less to do with a sound argument and more to do with rhetorical devices. Rick Lewis writes that philosophy is based upon logic and reasoning, and that learning how to use logic is critical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Jacob Van Loon This is The Wilderness Explosions in the Sky by Jacob van Loon I particularly like this art piece because it is complex, contrasting, and portrays certain moods and images. To start, this painting was made by drawing many overlapping straight lines, and painting over it with a lacquer, then he repeated this step several more times. He then filled each shape with blue or orange watercolor paint. You can see where the paint leaks out in some places, this provides a balanced ratio of geometric and abstract shapes. The blending also softens the contrast between the two colors. I ve concluded that the painting makes me think of an apocalypse now scenario. Its looks similar to an office building with the sky reflecting off glass panes. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Captain Knows Analysis Often times in a theatre troupe, three different groups tend to stand out amongst the crowd. In this troupe, there are the Captain Knows how s, the Diamond Shiner s, and the Queen s of Drama. They all have their perks, except when their special instincts take over and steal the show. The first group is the Captain Knows how s. This group is often the shy, quiet personality in the whole troupe. However, if the director needs a task done they always find this group. No matter what, or how hard the task is, the Captain Knows how s will never cease to amaze. Beware, they may seem friendly, but if caught in the midst of them and without a tool in hand, know that death is near. This group is also known to be blessed with patience , because they sit with the Queens of Drama when they need a hand. Nevertheless, this group knows how to get the job done and a phrase commonly heard is, Trust me, I know how, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Be careful in speaking with a member of this group because you may lose the love of a song, due to their excessive use of lyrics in their speech and constant bursting out in rhymes, they often stick to their group with the occasional conversation with an outsider. Just because they sing every song ever written, does not imply that they can remember every song. However, if started in the right track they will sing the lyrics until they are threatened to stop. These individuals are also mainly the ones that are seen as the leads in a play production. They are secretly hated by everyone, but everyone knows that no other person could fill that role the ...
