Killing Lincoln Opens With The End Of The Civil War
Killing Lincoln opens with the end of the Civil War drawing near. Richmond has fallen in a
panic by the hands of the Confederate citizens of the capitol. General Robert E. Lee is leading his
troops across Virginia in a retreat to the Carolinas for food, ammunition, and reinforcements.
General Ulysses S. Grant is hot on Lee s trail and manages to force Lee s troops to march farther
from the path to the Carolinas. At the Appomattox Court House in 1869, Lee surrenders to Grant
and the Civil War ends. During the Civil War, actor and Confederate supporter John Wilkes Booth
is
plotting the demise of President Abraham Lincoln. His family and even his fiancee don t know how
extreme his support for the Confederate cause is. Booth met with... Show more content on

He rents a horse that will help get Booth away from the scene after he has assassinated the
president. Booth will learn by mid day on the 14th that Lincoln is not actually going to be at
Grover s. The president will be at Ford s Theater to see a production of Our American Cousin.
Lincoln has dreamt of his own death many times before, but he has always dismissed it. The
night of the 13th is no different. The president wakes up the morning of April 14th at 7:00 am
sharp. He has breakfast with his wife and his two sons. Later he holds a meeting with Grant and
his cabinet. Lincoln tells them that he has dreamt of the day where all of the states were united.
That night, Lincoln and his wife, along with Henry Reed Rathbone and his fiancee, arrive at the
Ford s Theater. Booth enters the building through the back, his rented horse waiting with a
member from the theater. Booth decides to wait at the bar until the second act of the play is
over. Supposedly, the man responsible for protecting the president that night is drinking at that
bar. Eight blocks away, Lincoln s Secretary of State, William Seward, has been stabbed in his
own home by a member of Booth s group. Seward miraculously lives. The majority of Booth s
group is arrested. After the second act, Booth sneaks upstairs to the president s box. He passes the
guard at the door, and after slipping through into the box, Booth barricades the door shut. No one in
the box has

An Open Mind As The Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is another Comforter, Teacher, and Reminder. Before Christ went back to Heaven
He said that He would not leave us without another Comforter, of which is the Holy Ghost. God
the Holy Spirit, God the Father, and God the Son are a Trinity, in Heaven and on this earth. The
Comforter indwells us and we are in God and in Jesus. We are in the Trinity. Talk about eternal
security, how much more can one be secure than this?
Being the Holy Spirit is our Teacher, and the Word of God says He is, then that which is preached
should not be readily accepted. One should not build a doctrine on one or two verses of Scripture
but should study all verses on the subject with an open mind as the Holy Ghost teaches (II Timothy
2:15),. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Judgment will be revealed by the Holy Spirit because the prince (ruler) of the world is judged,
which is by the power of Christ who judged the old Devil and his kingdom, defeating Satan at the
cross. The Holy Spirit will guide you into all truth and is most reliable. He is God in the office of
the Holy Spirit. He listens, hears, and will communicate and speak to the believer, showing future
things, glorifying Christ, and will show you the things of the Father. See John 16:7 15.
Much conjecture is found concerning John 20:22. The way I view this verse tells that Jesus
breathed on, not in, the disciples, and said Receive ye the Holy Ghost: receiving the Holy Ghost
that gave commandments unto them (Acts 1:2). They received the Holy Ghost outwardly as those
in the Old Testament did and for particular services till Pentecost, and there dwelt within. In Acts
1:5 they were waiting for a different baptism than that of John s which they had already received.
They were to be baptized by the Holy Ghost who would dwell both with them and be in them (John
14:17), and receive the power to equip them to preach the gospel to all nations throughout the world
(Acts 1:8). When Pentecost had fully come they received that recorded in Acts chapter two.

Tuckman Group Development
I enjoyed playing high school and college basketball, however after suffering from a life changing
permanent injury I couldn t continue being an active player on my team. Nonetheless, I did not
want to allow this injury to ruin my passion for the sport. Consequently, I chose to invest lots of
hours into learningthe coaching and recruiting characteristics of the sport. Reading Bruce Tuckman
s iconic description of the stages of group development has really made it easy for me to
understand my experience during the time I attended a coaching basketballcamp with nine other
prospective upcoming basketball coaches like myself. It all started when MaxPreps, America s
source for high schoolsports organized a camp for upcoming basketball coaches from various
states where we had to be out camping for five days, during this experience we will collaboratively
fulfill various tasks delegated to each team participating in the event. Given my extensive
experience in coaching,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the second day, MaxPrep s chairman introduced my team to the tasks that our group will be
held accountable for in the remaining four days; the task was to create a succinct infomercial
positing important characteristic of a great basketball coach. At this point in time is when
conflicts began to surface. The first disagreement occurred at the time my group gathered to
appoint a team lead who will oversee the team. Both formal and informal leaders play an
instrumental role in lending credibility to the project and in guiding project participants and others
within the organization (Freshman, 2011 p. 49). Those who wanted leadership positions were
asked to step forward, with various beliefs and opinions formulated, some spoke up and
passionately proclaim who they want to lead, others simply opposed, while the timid ones in the
group remained silent and waited for a newly appointed leaders to be

Using A Computer Every Day
Using a computer every day can have more negative than positive
effects on children.
In recent years humanity has strongly developed its knowledge about
computers. Furthermore, computers have become an essential part of people s
life, because it makes everything much easier. These machines can work instead
of people and therefore replace workers doing tedious tasks, but that is not the
only benefit computers have. For instance, they can also help people to unwind
and relax in their spare time. Especially the younger generations tend to use them
very often; surfing the internet or playing videoВgames. Despite the fact that the
computer can be used in a beneficial way, it has its disadvantageous as well. So,
shall we consider these machines as a great invention, which effects in a positive
way on people or as a passive virus, which poisons them Вand especially children every day? I
would like to consider this complication from different points of view,
taking into account its pros and cons.
Initially, spending plenty of time in front of the computer screen can cause
several health problems. As a matter of a fact, one of the most attractive pastime
ways for children nowadays is playing computer games. It can be very
problematic, because youngsters tend to be very addicted to it. As a result of this
addiction, their minds can be poisoned strongly, since their bodies are still in a
process of developing. According to research about brain activity of children,

Amanda Clark Research Paper
Amanda Clark s phone conversation came to an abrupt end when her Chevrolet Trailblazer
rolled three times before landing on its roof. She had run a stop sign and was broadsided by
another driver. Metal caved in around her, but the roof stayed intact and she survived with just
scrapes and bruises (Tracy). Amanda Clark survived her first car accident caused by distracted
driving, but wasn t as lucky the second time. After she started driving again, she pledged to put
her phone away and focus on driving. Clark s Mother, Bonnye Spray, said, I thought this would
be a wakeup call for her, and it was for a short time she wouldn t talk on the phone, she was more
cautious. But she got more confident in her driving and a sense of Hey, I survived one, I m
invincible, nothing is going to happen to me now (Tracy). A year after her accident, Clark was

I didn t even realize what I was doing, until one day Stephanie called me out on it (Henry). The
effects of distracted driving accidents are not always physical. The emotional upset a driver
feels after a car accident can affect them for months or even years after the accident, regardless if
the accident was their fault or not. Although distracted driving is a problem for all drivers, it
specifically is a major problem for teenagers. Traffic accidents are the leading cause of death for
American teens. When it comes to distracted driving, young people are the most likely to text
and talk behind the wheel ( Distracted Driving Facts ). In Idaho between the years of 2010 and
2014, the age group 15 19 experienced the most crashes, with the age group 20 24 coming second.
Teenagers also contributed to 10% of fatal car crashes and a little over 15% of serious injury car

Importance Of National Service
1.National service is a small individual sacrifice for the sake of a country s defense. Discuss.
National service is a compulsory requirement for all male Singapore citizens and second
generation permanent residents. Which they would need to undergo a compulsory uniformed
service. The duration of how long the service would last depends on quite a few factors like
physical and medical fitness. Normally it s a two year thing there are different department
ranging from National Servicemen Full time (NSFs), either in the Singapore Armed Forces
(SAF), Singapore Police Force (SPF), or the Singapore Civil Defense Force (SCDF) . A 2 month
reduction in full time National Service is given for pre enlistees who can pass their National
Physical Fitness Award (NAPFA) at the silver or gold standard. But even after all the national
service that we must serve we would still need to return to the army once in a while as reservists
till an age of about 40 years old. If Singaporeans males are to skip or avoid reservist or even
national service it could be a very big problem and an offence. They could be jailed, fined or
even lose the Singapore citizenship. National service is a small individual sacrifice for the sake
of a country s defense. Is totally referring to Singapore as even though we are a little red dot we
still have quite a strong army due to our individual small sacrifices. As our NSmen makes up to
more than 80% of the Singapore military defense. Which shows that even

Explain What It Means To Me A Different Means Of Health
Health means to me a person s physical, mental/emotional and social well being. At the beginning of
the summer health meant to me a person who is not ill or injured. What has changed from the my
definition at the beginning of the summer to now is that I have taken into account more than the
physical factor of someone s health. Mental/emotional health and social health are also key factors.
All these factors make up a person s wellness and that is the overlying thing that is important. My
physical health has improved drastically throughout this course. I started eatinghealthier and having
fruits for breakfast instead of my usual stack of waffles. On top of this I started to workout with
friends. This is great, but my goal for the future is to continue like this. I fear that once school
starts again I will have more available excuses as to why I am not able to keep up these healthy
habits. One thing that I really took away from our physical unit was that improving your physical
health may take away from your mental/emotional or social health. With this in mind I came up
with a way that I can improve my physical health, but at the same time stay... Show more content on

I would say however that I am more aware of it. What I mean by this is that when I do something I
now think about how it may affect my mental/emotional health or when I see someone else do
something I think about their health. My future goal is to be conscious of an action may affect my
mental/emotional health without having to think about it. This may seem like an odd thing, but I
believe that if I am aware of it than I will make choices than only improve it. Something that I
learned about mental/emotional health is that your self esteem falls under this category. At first I
thought only mental disorders and personality fall into mental/emotional health, but it is also how
you think about yourself and if it is in a positive or negative

Personal Statement On Social Work
Empowerment is something that is a top priority when working with people. While many love
helping people, empowering them at the same time is my ultimate goal. Throughout this essay, I
hope to show how vital it is for me to obtain a Masters in Social Work. I will be doing this by
presenting my experience and relationships that have influenced my selection of the social work
career, my understanding of the responsibilities of the profession, my role and responsibilities that I

the mission statement addresses my career goals.

The most recent experience that I have achieved is the internship at the Superior Court. At this
internship I am constantly helping individuals. There are many positions I do at this internship
including, working at the information desk, escorting customers around the court house, helping
one find the correct document at the Law Library, helping individuals file for an order of
protection, or simply talking with customers about their options. Individuals who come into the
courthouse at the Law Library are self represented litigants. These people do not have the funds
for a lawyer to help them and are doing everything on their own. Many times they are
overwhelmed, upset, angry, and confused about what to do. The purpose of interns being at the
court is to help them through their issues. One example of this is to simply find the right court
file to fill out for a divorce or child custody modification. I love being able to help these individuals
because many times I am making their day by helping them find the right form. It sounds simple,
but to them it is enormous help. Additionally, the protective order center serves women who are
experiencing domestic violence. Within this part of the court house, I have learned to be patient
and use empathy to help them through the forms. Many times they are disheveled and cannot fill
out forms. When I started my degree, I focused my research on the children and

The Corrupted Christ Figure In The Poisonwood Bible
The Corrupted Christ Figure
A Christ figure can share attributes with Jesus and be the antagonist of the story. In Thomas C.
Foster s novel How to Read Literature like a Professor, he analyzes what a Christ figure looks like
in literature. He argues that a character who shares personality traits and or physical characteristics
with Christ is a representation and reflection of Jesus. Similarly, in Barbara Kingsolver s novel The
Poisonwood Bible, her character Nathan Price believes he is synonymous to Christ while in
reality, he is far from perfect. She uses irony to exploit the idea of the Christ figure. The use of
irony as seen in Kingsolver s novel, up ends Foster s claims as to what makes a Christ figure by
creating a character who assumes he is Christ yet does not reflect Christ s attributes.
A Christ figure represents the attributes of Christ in the way they live. Foster expands on this
idea by arguing a list of characteristics regarding Jesus. As readers, he claims, while we may not
be all that versed in types and archetypes from the Bible, we generally recognize, whatever our
religious affiliation, some of the features that make Christ who he is (Foster 125). If Christ s
attributes reflect themselves in a character, readers can use their knowledge to assume the
character is a Christ figure. Likewise, Kingsolver uses Nathan Price as an examples of a Christ
figure. Nathan comes to the Congo to redeem an unworthy people, has disciples (his family), and
wanders the

Modernism And Modernism

Graphic Design as well. Photographers began to Work with Sharp focus and an emphasis on formal
qualities, exploiting, rather than obscuring, the camera as an essentially mechanical and
technological tool (Artsy.net)
So to begin the first Photographer I looked at was Alexander Rodchenko, Rodchenko was a

one of the most versatile constructivist and productive artists to emerge after the Russian
revolution, he worked as a painter and graphic designer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

I m not sure if I like his graphic design stuff, this is because I feel there is just too much going on
and all the different patterns in the image can make you have a headache.
The second Photographer I researched was August Sander, born 17th November 1876, in Herdorf
was a German Portrait and Documentary photographer (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki

working for a mining company. With financial support from his uncle, he brought photographic
equipment and set up his own studio (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/August_Sander) In the early
1920s, he came in contact with a radical group of artists linked to the workers movement which, as
Wieland Schmied put it sought to combine constructivism and objectivity, geometry and object, the
general and the particular, avant garde conviction and political engagement, and which perhaps
approximated most to the forward looking of New

A Compare And Contrast Fats Research Paper
Compare and Contrast Fats Generally, the word shortening means any group of solid fats.
Shortenings generally consist of nearly 100 percent fat. It may be made from vegetable oils,
animal fats, or both. Shortenings are used for may purposes, so manufacturers have formulated
various kinds of fats with various properties. (Gisslen, 2013)
All Purpose Shortening
Also known as regular shortening, have a tough, waxy texture, and small particles of the fat tend to
hold their shape in a dough or batter. They are called plastic shortenings, which means they are
moldable at room temperature. They have a good creaming ability. Which means that a good
quantity of air can be mixed into them to give a batter lightness and leavening power. This type of
shortening melts only at a high temperature. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They are also used in many other pastries, breads, and products mixed by creaming, such as certain
pound cakes, cookies, and quick breads.
High Ratio Shortening
These are soft shortenings that spread easily throughout a batter and quickly coat the particles of
sugar and flour. The are call high ratio because they were devised for use in cake batter that
contain a high ratio of sugar and liquid to flour. They also contain added emulsifying agents, so they
can hold a larger quantity of liquid and sugar than regular shortenings. Which gives a smoother and
finer texture to cake and make them moister. Commonly referred to as emulsifying shortening.
High ratio shortening does not cream well. When a recipe calls for creaming shortening and sugar,
regular shortening should be used. High ratio shortening is often used in icings because it can hold
more sugar and liquid without curdling. It is more temperature stable and will hold air better upon
whipping, improving volume and stability.

Measuring Reflexes and Reactions
Abstract: The purpose of this lab was to test how reflexes and compare them with our lab partner by
measuring them in various experiments. All of the students tested their reactions by using many
different experiments such as catching a ruler without moving your arm, hitting a student under the
knee, how long it takes them to complete a puzzle, the ping pong reflex test, and the pupil
response. For the ruler experiment one student placed their hand on the ledge of a table while the
other dropped the ruler, wherever the student caught it depends on how good their reflexes are. The
knee reflex was test by using a hammer. One student would ... Show more content on

To complete the ping pong reflex one student would lightly throw a ping pong at the other and they
will observe their reaction to it. Finally the pupil response reflex was completed by having one
student close their eyes for 30 seconds and then the other student would see how their eye changed.
Introduction: Reflexes are actions that occur after a response without having to think about doing it.
Reflexes are very important to have because they keep us aware of what is happening. For
example if you touch a hot stove your body is telling you that its hot which would then help
prevent you from burning. A reflex arc is a neural pathway that commands a reflex action.
Reflex arcs tell our body to use our reflexes and are very important to us. While completing all of
the experiments in lab our body used reflexes and everyone s reaction time varied.
Hypothesis: If my reaction time to all of the experiments are high then that means I have good
reflexes?
Pre Lab Questions:
1. What is the difference between a reflex arc and a nonreflex arc? In a reflex arc, a sensory
neuron transfers impulses from the skin and then brings

Economic Analysis of the Airline Industry Introduction The airline industry is one that is both
costly and necessary to the economy. Costly because of the funding provided by the government,
recent layoffs; which has a hand in rising inflation, dealing with negative externalities and high
security risks; necessary because the ease and speed of air travel is needed to keep countries
productive and competitive. It is a key component to the economy. Many businesses rely on air

This is because air travel is not the only means of transportation. A person would like the speed
and convenience of travel by air, but other transportation alternatives exist. Air travel is both a
luxury and a necessity depending on the purpose of its use. For the purpose of vacationing or
visiting friends and family, air travel could be considered a luxury, but for the individual or
company who relies on the speed of air travel to complete business transactions, it would be
considered a necessity. The supply and demand of air travel is impacted by several factors. Air
travel is a normal good. The demand for air travel can diminish slightly because there are other
means of safer transportation available. The demand can also decrease if it becomes too
unaffordable. Consumers with a higher income are able to spend more time vacationing with the
use of air transportation. Air travel can be substituted with other forms of transportation if the
income of the consumer decreases. The price elasticity of supply for the Airline industry
however, is inelastic because even with the shifts in demand for air travel, which were caused by
events such as the 9/11 attacks and high gasoline prices, the rates and fares for air travel are able to
be set without being effected by those events. The airline industry provides a transportation

Ocean At The Lane
The Ocean at the End of the Lane is a fictional memoir written by Neil Gaiman. The story took
place in contemporary England. The protagonist, also the narrator, was a 7 year old boy who
later became friends with Lettie Hempstock. She was an older girl living at the end of the lane.
The narrator and Lettie Hempstock experienced a series of fascinating adventures. The antagonist,
Ursula Monkton, appeared to be a friendly and good looking nanny, actually tried to control the
world. She was revealed as a monster towards the end of the book. During the confrontation with
Ursula, the narrator saw enormous amounts of things that he had never seen before, and gained

with his legs. While Ursula was ripped to shreds by alien vulture monsters, she was right in front
of him. In the following attack from the cleaners , Lettie left him alone in a green circle, and he
said that I have never been as frightened as I was. All of these horrible memories would shadow
him forever for its strong impact on him as a child. Thus his encounter with Ursula Monkton

The Ocean at the End of the Lane was a story about fear and courage. The narrator was greatly

Ursula Monkton. He changed from an innocent child to a mature adult at the age of 7, because he
confronted death, he was challenged by the horrifying Ursula and he made a true friend named

Was Hitler Responsible For The Holocaust Essay
In spite of Adolf Hitler s critical role in the Holocaust, he was not directly responsible for the
majority of the horrors that the events created.
All of Germany had a solid reason for the persecution, if not extreme terrors that it included. After
the conclusion of World War One and the signing of the Treaty of Versailles, Germanywas launched
into a massive depression that devastated the country. Those who are suffering are bound to reach a

Boorstin On Dissent And Disagreement
Boorstin makes a profoundly wise distinction between disagreement and dissent. Right after
World war II (1945), the American Society experienced a great cultural change as minority
groups started to take a stand against discrimination. Such a stand bolsters Boorstin s statement
that A liberal society thrives on disagreement but is killed by dissension. Disagreement is the
lifeblood of democracy, dissention is its cancer. This description clearly relates to the society
during the 1960s, for the expression he uses, Dissent is the great problem of America today, is
found in The Decline of Radicalism which was published in 1969. Leading up to the 1960s,
discrimination has only been a disagreement, but in the 1960s, it became a dissension.... Show more

With the Civil Rights Movement in full force, it was time the government took serious action, or
the cancer would spread. The ongoing racism at the time, made African Americans feel apart from
others more than ever. Such isolation can be visible in the complete negligence of the Brown v
Board of Education decision. Instead of following the Warren Court s decision of desegregating
public schools, in places like Little Rock Arkansas, schools were still segregated. The transfer from
a disagreement to disension marks a time in which African Americans led several protests that
sparked national outrage. The Woolworth Sit in, for example, had significant impact on the South
as the sit ins successfully desegregated lunch counters and other public places. The March on
Washington which is the site of Martin Luther King Jr. s I have a dream speech , convinced the
government to take action concerning the civil rights movement before more violence could occur.
In the following years, The Voting Rights Act of 1965 outlawed the prevention of black citizen
class from voting, and seeing that they were threatened to not vote in the south, the government
provided federal oversight of elections in places of evident discrimination. Boostin explains, that the
liberal society...is killed by dissension, which was the case during the Civil Rights Movement. If the
government had not given African Americans more rights, the cancerous side, continued
widespread rebellions against prolonged unfair treatment, would have destroyed the American

Research Paper On Iroquois Tribes
The Iroquois people consisted of many different tribes rather than one big group. These groups
included the Seneca, Oneida, Onondaga, Mohawk, Cayuga and the Tuscarora. The Iroquois have
occupied the Eastern Woodlands for over 4,000 years. The Iroquois tribes first settled in the Eastern
Woodlands located in the Eastern United States. This area had thick forests, rivers, hills, and
mountains. One thing the Iroquoiswere best known for were their longhouses. These longhouses
were estimated to be longer than the length of an entire football field. Inside of the longhouse,
there is an aisle in the middle and living space on either side. The longhouses were matrilineal, so
when a marriage occurred, the family would move into the longhouse of the mother. The Iroquois

The women usually harvested most of the food. They ate deohako, or life supporters, which
were corn, beans, and squash. These three crops could also be known as the three sisters. They
could be mixed together to create a vegetable dish called succotash. The Iroquois people also
picked lots of blueberries, strawberries, and cranberries. Tools were created for farming, such as the
wooden rake used to level the soil, and a wooden spade to dig the soil. After food was dried, it
would be placed into clay pots that were lined with bark to keep mice out. In the fall, men
usually hunted for animals like elk, bears, deer and wolves. During the spring, they would go
fishing. Men would also help clear fields and build villages, but their primary job was warfare. The

Letter From A Birmingham Jail By Martin Luther King Jr
Human Rights Activist, Martin Luther King Jr, in his letter, Letter from a Birmingham Jail , writes
to the public, justifying his actions against segregation. King s purpose is to convey the idea that
segregation is morally wrong in all senses. He displays a disciplined, yet exasperated manner while
referencing historical and biblical events, to show society how segregation is inhuman.
King begins his letter to the clergymen of Birmingham by comparing his actions to that of
biblical figures, seeking social justice. He appeals to the audience s religious beliefs by paralleling
the actions taken place. Stating Just as the prophets of the eight century B.C. left their villages and
carried their thus saith the Lord far beyond the boundaries of their hometowns, and just as the
Apostle Paul left his village of Tarus and carried the gospelof Jesus Christ to the far corners of the
Greco Roman world, so am I compelled to carry the gospel of freedom beyond my own home
town. Like Paul, I must constantly respond to the Macedonian call for aid. He furthermore clarifies
that with a nonviolent social tension, the discrimination will be brought into full view of society.
He demonstrates this by stating, Just as Socrates felt that it was necessary to create a tension in the
mind so that individuals could rise from the bondage of myths and half truths to the unfettered
realm of creative analysis and objective appraisal, so must we see the need for nonviolent gadflies
to create the kind

Racial Differences In Georgia
Racial differences in social and economic outcomes all play a major role in the discrimination
that we witness in the book. Once the New York boys arrived in Georgia, they witnessed the
southern racism for the first time. In Georgia, the New York boys were marginalized. They were
degraded, due to Georgians classification of the New York boys as blacks. When Gus visited
Warm Springs, he didn t receive the same services as the whites, he was ignored. They were seen
as disappointments. However, in contradiction, while in Georgia they too discriminated other black

The United States Of The World War II Essay
On December 7th, 1941, the United States of America was heaved into World War II after Japan
attacked the American naval convoy in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. The next day after the Japanese s
surprise attack, America and Great Britain both declared war on Japan. The Second World War was
histories greatest and most noteworthy armed conflict. It served as the environment for the current
arrangement of security and intellect, and for the postwar power stability that shaped the agenda
for the Cold War. World War II partook with around 50 allied nations, one of the most renowned
was The United Statesof America.3 The American industry provided almost two thirds of all of
the allied military equipment produced during the war, and because of this, in four years alone,
Americas industrial production doubled in size even with it already being the largest at the time.
After the attack, everyday living throughout the nation was considerably affected. Normal goods
such as food, gas, and clothing were rationed heavily.1 The communities created scrap metal
drives and changed the standard role of women in order to build necessary weaponries to win the
war.1 Even though America was experiencing great economic growth, undoubtedly this war and its
associated atrocities would have a death toll of around 50 million military and civilian peoples, in
the military deaths alone The United States of America lost 400,000.1 World War II not only

Taking a Look at Local Produce
My topic is local produce. I chose this topic because I am really interested in the different types of
food people consume and how it affects their health.
The big question I will be answering is whether or not to buy local or non local foods. I will go
over which is safer for the economy, the environment, and people. After I research this, I will then
find which one is better to buy. This is a question that each person should ponder before deciding
which type of food to buy. My hypothesis is that eating locally will be better and safer for everyone.
Do you often find that the foods in your fridge are nonlocal?
There are many negative things to contemplate when deciding what type of foods to buy. Issues
upon this topic include foodborne illnesses, also known as food poisoning, incorrect processing
and handling and preparation of meats, and bacteria. Many multi state waves in which have
infected many hundreds of people have lately been traced back to specific farms, food processors,
and specific food handlers. (As stated by sustainabletable.org)
Some major issues with buying non local foods that have an effect of the earth are pesticides and
steroids. They can be put into these foods and can seriously harm the consumer.
Pesticides are made to kill pests to the plant, but they often hurt humans instead. By buying local
food, your chances of eating foods that contain pesticides become less likely. When foods are
grown locally, they are generally in season because they do not

A Happier Tomorrow in Today Will Be a Quiet Day Essay
A Happier Tomorrow in Today Will Be a Quiet Day
In the story Today Will Be a Quiet Day written by Amy Hempel, one may be inclined to believe
that there is a tone of depression or sadness among the father and the two children. This is shown
in the opening sentence, while the three are stalled in traffic on the Golden Gate Bridge. The boy
states, I think if the quake hit now the bridge would collapse and the ramps would be left (Hempel
1202). We also learn that the boy had a best friend who committed suicide about a year before.
Finally, the fact that a mother is not mentioned leaves the reader with a suspicion that the parents
may be divorced, separated, or even worse, the mother may be deceased. Even though these

This is shown throughout the car ride when the boy and girl are telling jokes, and the boy constantly
recites humorous bumper stickers. Another example of the father s attempt to have fun with his
children is his initial plan to attend the arm wrestling tournament. This is shot down by the
children, but they still find an interesting place to have a nice lunch. The day proved to be a fun
and relaxing day for the family, and hinted that less disastrous times are in store for them.
Next, the fact that the daughter has just received her driver s license is a step towards happier
times. Driving on her own is probably one of the most exciting times of her life, and she makes it
known to her family that she received the highest grade in the class. The father trusts her and lets
her drive all the way home, which raises her confidence and shows the trusting relationship
between the father and daughter. Another example which shows happier times coming to the
family is when the father tells the children that he has both good and bad news. He goes on to ask
which would the children prefer to hear first. The daughter immediately answers that she wishes to
hear the bad first. This is surprising to her father, but it shows that she is beginning to mature. The
father is glad to hear that the daughter can handle the bad news, when earlier the truth had to be
hidden from her, like the death of the dog. This shows how naive the daughter was in her younger
years, and now that she has

Ancient Egypt And Ancient Egyptian Culture
The Egyptian culture has long been considered quite optimistic. It should be argued that of all
ancient civilisations and cultures, the ancient Egyptian culture, is by far the most optimistic; in
terms of everyday outlook on life, religion and death. The ancient Egyptian culture when compared
to its nearby neighbours in the Levant and Mesopotamia is indeed optimistic. An examination of
the environment of ancient Egyptaffected daily life as this would in turn influence the culture, and
whether or not this played a role in making ancient Egyptian life and culture more optimistic. It is
also essential that the ancient Egyptian myths and religion be explored to determine whether or not
it contained the same optimistic outlook as the culture... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Their civilisation was situated adjacent to the Nile River. Evidently, this allowed for the ancient
Egyptians to transition into an agricultural lifestyle with relative ease, as stated by Marc Van De
Mieroop wherever its waters reaches the soil can be farmed; where it does not reach the earth is
parched and it is impossible to grow anything on it. This subsequently allowed the ancient
Egyptians to begin farming with relative ease as the Nile River stretched some 6500 kilometres,
which is more than enough farming area for a civilisation with a relatively small population.
The ancient Egyptians were further blessed by the fact that the Nile River, would flood on a
yearly basis bringing in rich silt that ultimately acted as fertilisers for the crops, and thus
allowing for less labour and higher yield. The Nile River itself has no doubt contributed to the
general optimism of Egyptian culture which is evident in the Hymn to the Nile whereby it states
May your countenance shine on us, Hapy, god of the moving River, who comes forth from the
earth returning to save the Black Land. His features are hidden, dark in the daylight, yet faithful
find him fit subject for song. He waters the landscape the Sun god has formed, giving life to every
small creature. The words used in the Hymn to describe and thank the god Hapy show that ancient
Egyptians are indeed grateful towards the environment as the Nile River is integrated into ancient

The Lizzie Borden nursery rhyme is about a daughter murdering her father and stepmother. The
poem references the violent murder of Lizzie Borden s parents in Massachusetts, in 1892.
Although Lizzie was accused of the crime, the Borden case went unsolved due to lack of

case has gained infamy over the years. Because of its horrific details, the case gained great

Why The Book Should Be Banned
Banned books are books to which free access is not allowed. The practice of banning books is a
method of book censorship, and often has political, religious or moral motivations. Catching fire

influential on young readers and gives readers that feeling that giving up is not an option and to

was experienced because of the book. The book yes may cause nightmares but you can t complain

Some parent s argue that the book should be banned but their argument can be overturned.
Parents continue to argue about the violence that the book has, but they soon are going to have
to notice that the world is filled with violence and if you re going to ban a book because of the

Human Nature And The Relationship Between Nation States
To what extent does human nature help us to explain the relationship between nation states?
This essay will discuss different approaches to human nature and the effect it has on the relationship
between nation states. It will outline some contemporary examples of relationship between nation
states, including that of Syria and the affected states, as well as general realist theories to human
nature, such as The stag hunt . As well as this, it will look at alternative more liberal approaches to
human nature, and some examples of why human nature can lead those to be cooperative. This will
be illustrated using the refugee crisis.
Human nature as defined by the Collins dictionary, is the qualities common to humanity . It shows
how humans are predisposed to act. Different ideologies have opposing views on human nature;
the realist approach would view humans in a very pessimistic way, in that they are uncooperative
and choose self interest over moral principle (Nardin, Mapel, 1993, p62). Essentially realism shows
that the principle actors in the international arena are states, which act in their own national
interests, and struggle for power (Stanford, 2010). In regards to the international system and how
nation states collaborate, when there is no authority, and nations do what benefits them the most,
international anarchy occurs. This then could lead to potential conflict as there is no authority.
Anarchy, in the international context is defined as absence of

Recent leadership changes and budget cuts have created a period of organizational crisis in the
library, albeit a crisis put into perspective in comparison to the Great Chicago Fire. This situation
has meant that many important priorities, like updating the mission, vision, and values statements
of the organization have been ignored in lieu of seemingly more pressing issues. The old mission
statement of the CPL is not even easily discoverable on the new organizational website.
Of course, prioritization is necessary in any healthy institution. Ironically, however, institutional
prioritization is not even possible without a clearly articulated mission, vision, and value
statements. In this moment of crisis, the CPL would benefit from updated and revised mission,
vision, and value statements that more closely reflect the current situation, and a specific vision to
move beyond it. This paper provides an overview of the scholarly literature on mission, vision, and
value statements to discern the most important features in successful versions of these statements.
After recognizing that successful statements must be drafted with users needs in mind, we present
new mission, vision, and value statements more appropriate to the current users and surrounding

much more aggressive and contentious persona towards her. In the midst of cursing and yelling

Even though there are various benefits of organic farming there are certain issues still related to the
same such as:
The productivity of such farms is very low so it is not that feasible keeping in mind the frequent
requirement of the herbs and spices of a hotel.
The cost of setting up such farms by the hotel would be high and the hotel would be resistant to
employ such a strategy when it can fetch the things from the outer sources and if possible that too
at a low cost.
The idea to have organic farms inside the premises of the hotel might seem difficult keeping in
mind the limited area available to the hotels.

Increasing the tree cover would definitely add to greener environment
It would contribute to bringing down the temperature of the nearby areas where the hotels are

Carbon Derivatives Market in India
Carbon Derivatives Market in India Executive Summary Energy security, resource conservation,
reduction of pollution and protection of natural habitats has got governments all around the world
interested in carbon trading. Investor interest in the emerging global carbon credit market has
created apt conditions for risk management products, ranging from insurance to derivatives. The
carbon trading market allows polluting companies to pay others to cut carbon emissions on their
behalf so as to meet the reduction targets set by Kyoto Protocol. A high volume of trading in the
carbon derivatives market helps price discovery and liquidity, and in this way helps to set a clear

Similarly, the buyer can also hedge his position against rise in carbon credit prices. A high
volume of trading in this market helps price discovery and liquidity, and in this way helps to
keep down costs and set a clear price signal which helps businesses to plan investments.
Advantage India India is the second largest supplier of CERs in the world after China. Together
they control around 82% of the market. The advantage with these two countries is that they
have no obligation to reduce emissions under the Kyoto agreement and hence they have the
opportunity to invest in GHG reducing projects to earn carbon credits which can further be sold
to developed countries that have an obligation to reduce emissions. [pic] Out of the 978 projects
that have been registered under Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) of the United Nations
Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), 332 projects are from India. 543
projects are at various stage of validation or registration. All these projects from India are
expected to yield close to 400 million CERs by 2012. The market to buy and sell such credits is
surging especially in Europe where most countries have signed the U.N. Kyoto Protocol to curb
CO2 emissions. The value of global carbon markets grew by 80 percent from 2006 to 2007,
reaching $60 billion in 2007, according to consulting group Point Carbon. In

Essay About Obama Failure
Successes and Failures of the Obama Presidency Leaders are often credited with the success of
the country under their administration, as well as blamed for failures during their time in power.
To say that the successes and failures of the Obama administration are solely a reflection of him
and his decisions alone would make little sense. There are several different factors that could
hinder him from making decisions, or aid him in making decisions and getting policies passed. The
environment as well as his opponent in 2012, Mitt Romney, are two factors that have impacted
outcomes for the President in the past. A leader will struggle more in a hostile environment, and if
the opposition is strong, failure is also a distinct possiblity. His... Show more content on

The American people were displeased with the way that his first term had unfolded, and they
were unhappy that the promises the President made to the country were not kept. Romney was a
fresh face, who had a lengthy political background, and who, according to the Washington Post,
would have won the election, had it just been held a little later. According to the Post, the
hypothetical eight point shift in the popular vote that Romney had acquired according to poll of
registered voters would have allowed him to win the election by virtually the same margin that
Obama had actually won by (Blake 1). Obama s failure to deliver on his promises caused a
handful, about 1 in 5, of his previous supporters to put their trust in Romney instead of him, and
this newfound trust in his opponent planted the seed of doubt in the public s mind about the
President s abilities to deliver on his previous claims that he had made to get elected (What if Mitt
Romney had Won?). However, Romney has also been a positive attribute in Obama s presidency.
Obamacare was closely modeled, ironically, after Mitt Romney s healthcare plan that he enacted
whilst Governor of Massachusetts (The Choice 2012). Even as an opponent, Romney helped to
benefit Obama s terms as President, in ways that he may not have even

Impact Of Reconstruction On African Americans
How Reconstruction Helped African Americans Achieve the American Dream
INTRO
Body Paragraph number 1(NO argument)
Reconstruction did not help African Americans move closer to the American Dream. Even though
there were positives, there were also negatives. Due to Reconstruction, hate groups started, there
was not any safety for African Americans, and the Black Codes or Jim Crow laws. One of the most
infamous hate groups to rise was the Klu Klux Klan. KKK for short. African Americans were
terrorized by this group. They are responsible for many hangings, burnings, and other horrors
that were inflicted upon African Americans. Also, there was not any safety from the groups. It
was not like being in the center of a city was going to help. There are unfortunately many pictures
of African Americans being hanged in very populated areas. Also, there was the rise of Black
Codes(Jim Crow laws). It is like how the saying goes, out of the frying pan and into the fire.
Some of the codes, but not limited to, was the Grandfather clause, which basically said that if
your grandfather could not vote, you cannot vote. There were also many other ways that African
Americans were restricted from voting. There was poll tax, and unfair evaluations of voting tests.
This also included segregation of schools (separate but equal). There was even a law forbidding a
white person from marrying a black person. However, even though all of these horrific things came
because the end of slavery,

Futility of the American Dream Exposed in The Great...
The road to success is not easy to navigate, but with hard work, drive and passion, it s possible to
achieve the American dream.
Tommy Hilfiger
In F. Scott Fitzgerald s novel The Great Gatsby, the principle character, Jay Gatsby makes an
exhaustive effort in his quest for the American Dream. The novel is Fitzgerald s vessel of
commentary and criticism of the American Dream. Fitzgerald defines this Dream, he depicts its
beauty and irresistible lure (Bewley 113). Through Gatsby s downfall, Fitzgerald expresses the
futility and agony of the pursuit of the dream.
The aspects of the American Dream are evident throughout Fitzgerald s narrative. Take, for
example, James Gatz s heavenly, almost unbelievable rise ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Consequently, I am not ugly, for the effect of my ugliness, its power to repel, is annulled by
money... does not my money, therefore, transform all my incapacities into their opposites?
(Possnock 204).
Gatsby s incapacities, generally of an emotional nature, inhibitions preventing his successful capture
of his long lost love, Daisy, are washed away with the drunkenness provided by the dollar:
However glorious might be his future as Jay Gatsby, he was a present a penniless young man
without a past, and at any moment the invisible cloak of his uniform might slip from his
shoulders... He took what he could get, ravenously and unscrupulously eventually he took Daisy
one still October night (Fitzgerald 141).
Once armed with the lucre, however, he is prepared to contribute equally to the relationship, making
it truly an equal relation of love.
Love represents the other side of the coin of wealth: as opposed to material wealth, it refers
instead to emotional wealth. Whatever its plane of existence, love plays a pivotal role in the
American Dream, in Gatsby s Dream. Perhaps love is the most valuable of the aspects presented
thus far of the Dream; He hadn t once ceased looking at Daisy, and I think he revalued everything
in his house according to the measure of response it drew from her well loved eyes (Fitzgerald 88).

Alternative Methods of Resolving Legal Disputes
A legal dispute is a disagreement over the existence of a legal duty or right. Usually most legal
disputes are resolved in a court of law. However, there are alternative methods of resolving legal
disputes other than by a court. Such methods include Tribunals as well as Arbitration. There are
different Tribunals which exist to resolve a variety of disputes. Generally, a tribunal is known to be
any person or institution with the authority to judge, to pass that particular judgment, or to
determine claims or disputes. For example the industrial tribunal sits to dertermine statutory
employment law disputes such as wrongful dismissal, unfair dismissal and redundancy. However
industrial tribunals serve to resolve many more disputes than... Show more content on

The process of arbitration is governed by the arbitration act which provides a flexible method of
resolving disputes. Advantages| Disadvantages| Cheaper| No right of appeal| Speedy, informal and
flexible| No jury for claimant| Private proceedings| Awards may be based upon justice and equity
rather than evidence| Arbitrator is an appropriately qualified expert| Unknown bias and competency
of the arbitrator| The arbitration award is final| May be highly complex|
Other alternative methods of resolving legal disputes are negotiation, mediation and conciliation.
Mediation is a way of resolving disputes between two or more parties with concrete effects.
Typically a third party assists the parties to negotiate a settlement. The term mediation broadly
refers to any instance in which a third party helps others reach agreement. The process is private
and confidential, possibly enforced by law. Participation is typically voluntary. Conciliation is a
less formal form of arbitration. This process does not require an existence of any prior agreement.
Any party can request the other party to appoint a conciliator. One conciliator is preferred but two
or three are also allowed. In case of multiple conciliators, all must act jointly. Parties may submit
statements to the conciliator describing the general nature of the dispute and the points at issue.
Negotiation is the most basic means of settling our differences. It is back and forth

Iranian Identity in the Global World
Globalization is defined as the world becoming a small global village where all countries merge into
a mosaic of one multicultural free communication of information village. Yet, if globalization is
supposed to enhance the relationships between different cultures, making the whole world one
nation, it drastically fails, due to the many differences between the world s nations. Iran is one
example of a country nation that has been detached from the global structure. With all the studies
that have been made on Iran, the 1979 Revolution caused the West to treat Iran with great bias, in a
similar fashion to the prevailing bias against the entire Eastern region. Iran has since been ... Show

I will analyze Iranian society, with reference to postcolonial theories employing different
approaches. First, I will explain the general idea behind postcolonial theory, specifically orientalism
, as it is one major approach in postcolonial studies. Then I will look at some historical aspects of
Iranian identity development, discussing various events that have affected the psyche of Iranians
as a community. I will focus on Tehran s metropolitan area as it is the major city in Iran. As an
outsider to Iranian culture inside Iran I am aware that my approach will contain inherent bias,
however, trying to limit this will be my goal throughout the essay. Also, limited space may not
permit a long detailed view of all my research, but I shall attempt to convey my main point
concisely.
The main interest in postcolonial theory is what happens to people during and after colonialism.
Splitting in straight lines self from other by purifying the self, is one discussion in postcolonial
theory. Naturally, people view each other globally within the concept of Them and Us . One s
identity is often defined through encounters with differing cultures. Edward Said is considered the
founder of postcolonial theory. In 1978 Said wrote a controversial book called Orientalism. He
attempts to explain the geographical division between the West, the Occident and

with making a connection between students and employees. Students are allowed to post their
resumes and search for internship opportunities and employers are also able to post their temporary

failing to effectively follow up to the task of providing internship training opportunities to all
students wish to secure such training.
In place of the current informal internship process just described as it is the proposal of this
research study that there is more organized, more formalized strategy which will be mentioned in
this research as a formal internship and cooperative pipeline training program (FICPTP) that could
be created to replace and enhance the existing procedure.

The collapse of communism in the USSR and Central and Eastern Europe
Before we move on to our essay on to analyse The Collapse of Communism in USSR and Central
and Eastern Europe and the reasons behind its collapse, we should discuss and understand the
definition of Communism.
Communism is a social system in which all the resources, economic activities are owned by state or
country.
It is a system in which wealth is dispersed equally among the people and there is no private
ownership of the resources and wealth. The state owns and controls resources and property. Soviet
model of communism was based on these ideals, all the opposition parties were banned only who
shared the communist ideals were allowed. Complete power was into the hands of the Communist
party. In 1917, the Soviet Union witnessed the Bolshevik Revolution which overthrew the czarism
and a communist state was born. The Central and Eastern Europe nations followed USSR and
adopted communism, with their leaders directly under the command and control of the Soviet
Union. Communism was doomed from the start due to the moral weakness of human mankind and
the corruption of its leaders. The first reason which played role in the failure and collapse of
communism was the fact that the Communist party s domination was illegitimate from the
beginning. Eastern European countries did the revolution have the support of more than a minority
of people, yet this minority retained absolute control. The communist

Persecution In The Passage Of Persecution
Hebrews 10:33,34 states Sometimes you were exposed to public ridicule and were beaten, and
sometimes you helped others who were suffering the same things. You suffered along with those
who were thrown into jail, and when all you owned was taken from you, you accepted it with
joy. You knew there were better things waiting for you that will last forever (NLT). Whomever
the author could be for it is unknown to those reminds the Hebrew Christians that they have once
faced persecution before. Being persecuted for living a life of Christ instead of self, may bring
pain and sorrow upon Christians. For Christ, endured pain and sorrow on the way toward to the
cross or his earthly death. The author goes on to say that those that have been persecuted greater
things were to come their way. All they had to do was remain faithful to Godand God would be
faithful to them. Those who are studying this passage of scripture must know that they too will be
tested or persecuted in their faith walk, must know that God is on their side. The persecutions will
bring about trust, strength, and patience. The issues that come with persecution in this passage of
scripture is that Christians does not have to do anything wrong or sin against God, just claiming
to be a child of God only brings about persecution. Two ways to overcome this persecution is to
know that God is always with his children, and Christ will return to his children one day and carry
them away with him into Heaven.

Romeo And Juliet Movie Vs Play
I think Luhrmann did a better job at capturing the story in a decade where we could better
understand what was happening. He did an outstanding job at emphasizing the dialogue. There
were many differences between Luhrmann s version and Zeffirelli s version. I believe that
Zeffirelli did a more refined job at creating a performance which closely relates to the story.
Overall, I would have to say that Luhrmann did an excellent job at his version, which barely
outshines Zeffirelli. In Luhrmann s 1996 version of Romeo + Juliet, we could pick out the
differences between the performance and the story, and it was easier to understand what was
happening. You could tell who was who, and the actors did an excellent job at playing their parts,

  • 2. Killing Lincoln Opens With The End Of The Civil War Killing Lincoln opens with the end of the Civil War drawing near. Richmond has fallen in a panic by the hands of the Confederate citizens of the capitol. General Robert E. Lee is leading his troops across Virginia in a retreat to the Carolinas for food, ammunition, and reinforcements. General Ulysses S. Grant is hot on Lee s trail and manages to force Lee s troops to march farther from the path to the Carolinas. At the Appomattox Court House in 1869, Lee surrenders to Grant and the Civil War ends. During the Civil War, actor and Confederate supporter John Wilkes Booth is plotting the demise of President Abraham Lincoln. His family and even his fiancee don t know how extreme his support for the Confederate cause is. Booth met with... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He rents a horse that will help get Booth away from the scene after he has assassinated the president. Booth will learn by mid day on the 14th that Lincoln is not actually going to be at Grover s. The president will be at Ford s Theater to see a production of Our American Cousin. Lincoln has dreamt of his own death many times before, but he has always dismissed it. The night of the 13th is no different. The president wakes up the morning of April 14th at 7:00 am sharp. He has breakfast with his wife and his two sons. Later he holds a meeting with Grant and his cabinet. Lincoln tells them that he has dreamt of the day where all of the states were united. That night, Lincoln and his wife, along with Henry Reed Rathbone and his fiancee, arrive at the Ford s Theater. Booth enters the building through the back, his rented horse waiting with a member from the theater. Booth decides to wait at the bar until the second act of the play is over. Supposedly, the man responsible for protecting the president that night is drinking at that bar. Eight blocks away, Lincoln s Secretary of State, William Seward, has been stabbed in his own home by a member of Booth s group. Seward miraculously lives. The majority of Booth s group is arrested. After the second act, Booth sneaks upstairs to the president s box. He passes the guard at the door, and after slipping through into the box, Booth barricades the door shut. No one in the box has ... • 3. An Open Mind As The Holy Spirit The Holy Spirit is another Comforter, Teacher, and Reminder. Before Christ went back to Heaven He said that He would not leave us without another Comforter, of which is the Holy Ghost. God the Holy Spirit, God the Father, and God the Son are a Trinity, in Heaven and on this earth. The Comforter indwells us and we are in God and in Jesus. We are in the Trinity. Talk about eternal security, how much more can one be secure than this? Being the Holy Spirit is our Teacher, and the Word of God says He is, then that which is preached should not be readily accepted. One should not build a doctrine on one or two verses of Scripture but should study all verses on the subject with an open mind as the Holy Ghost teaches (II Timothy 2:15),. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Judgment will be revealed by the Holy Spirit because the prince (ruler) of the world is judged, which is by the power of Christ who judged the old Devil and his kingdom, defeating Satan at the cross. The Holy Spirit will guide you into all truth and is most reliable. He is God in the office of the Holy Spirit. He listens, hears, and will communicate and speak to the believer, showing future things, glorifying Christ, and will show you the things of the Father. See John 16:7 15. Much conjecture is found concerning John 20:22. The way I view this verse tells that Jesus breathed on, not in, the disciples, and said Receive ye the Holy Ghost: receiving the Holy Ghost that gave commandments unto them (Acts 1:2). They received the Holy Ghost outwardly as those in the Old Testament did and for particular services till Pentecost, and there dwelt within. In Acts 1:5 they were waiting for a different baptism than that of John s which they had already received. They were to be baptized by the Holy Ghost who would dwell both with them and be in them (John 14:17), and receive the power to equip them to preach the gospel to all nations throughout the world (Acts 1:8). When Pentecost had fully come they received that recorded in Acts chapter two. 63 Acts 2:17,18 And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit ... • 4. Tuckman Group Development I enjoyed playing high school and college basketball, however after suffering from a life changing permanent injury I couldn t continue being an active player on my team. Nonetheless, I did not want to allow this injury to ruin my passion for the sport. Consequently, I chose to invest lots of hours into learningthe coaching and recruiting characteristics of the sport. Reading Bruce Tuckman s iconic description of the stages of group development has really made it easy for me to understand my experience during the time I attended a coaching basketballcamp with nine other prospective upcoming basketball coaches like myself. It all started when MaxPreps, America s source for high schoolsports organized a camp for upcoming basketball coaches from various states where we had to be out camping for five days, during this experience we will collaboratively fulfill various tasks delegated to each team participating in the event. Given my extensive experience in coaching,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On the second day, MaxPrep s chairman introduced my team to the tasks that our group will be held accountable for in the remaining four days; the task was to create a succinct infomercial positing important characteristic of a great basketball coach. At this point in time is when conflicts began to surface. The first disagreement occurred at the time my group gathered to appoint a team lead who will oversee the team. Both formal and informal leaders play an instrumental role in lending credibility to the project and in guiding project participants and others within the organization (Freshman, 2011 p. 49). Those who wanted leadership positions were asked to step forward, with various beliefs and opinions formulated, some spoke up and passionately proclaim who they want to lead, others simply opposed, while the timid ones in the group remained silent and waited for a newly appointed leaders to be ... • 5. Using A Computer Every Day Using a computer every day can have more negative than positive effects on children. In recent years humanity has strongly developed its knowledge about computers. Furthermore, computers have become an essential part of people s life, because it makes everything much easier. These machines can work instead of people and therefore replace workers doing tedious tasks, but that is not the only benefit computers have. For instance, they can also help people to unwind and relax in their spare time. Especially the younger generations tend to use them very often; surfing the internet or playing videoВgames. Despite the fact that the computer can be used in a beneficial way, it has its disadvantageous as well. So, shall we consider these machines as a great invention, which effects in a positive way on people or as a passive virus, which poisons them Вand especially children every day? I would like to consider this complication from different points of view, taking into account its pros and cons. Initially, spending plenty of time in front of the computer screen can cause several health problems. As a matter of a fact, one of the most attractive pastime ways for children nowadays is playing computer games. It can be very problematic, because youngsters tend to be very addicted to it. As a result of this addiction, their minds can be poisoned strongly, since their bodies are still in a process of developing. According to research about brain activity of children, ... She had run a stop sign and was broadsided by another driver. Metal caved in around her, but the roof stayed intact and she survived with just scrapes and bruises (Tracy). Amanda Clark survived her first car accident caused by distracted driving, but wasn t as lucky the second time. After she started driving again, she pledged to put her phone away and focus on driving. Clark s Mother, Bonnye Spray, said, I thought this would be a wakeup call for her, and it was for a short time she wouldn t talk on the phone, she was more cautious. • 7. Importance Of National Service 1.National service is a small individual sacrifice for the sake of a country s defense. Discuss. National service is a compulsory requirement for all male Singapore citizens and second generation permanent residents. Which they would need to undergo a compulsory uniformed service. The duration of how long the service would last depends on quite a few factors like physical and medical fitness. Normally it s a two year thing there are different department ranging from National Servicemen Full time (NSFs), either in the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF), Singapore Police Force (SPF), or the Singapore Civil Defense Force (SCDF) . A 2 month reduction in full time National Service is given for pre enlistees who can pass their National Physical Fitness Award (NAPFA) at the silver or gold standard. But even after all the national service that we must serve we would still need to return to the army once in a while as reservists till an age of about 40 years old. If Singaporeans males are to skip or avoid reservist or even national service it could be a very big problem and an offence. They could be jailed, fined or even lose the Singapore citizenship. National service is a small individual sacrifice for the sake of a country s defense. Is totally referring to Singapore as even though we are a little red dot we still have quite a strong army due to our individual small sacrifices. At the beginning of the summer health meant to me a person who is not ill or injured. What has changed from the my definition at the beginning of the summer to now is that I have taken into account more than the physical factor of someone s health. Mental/emotional health and social health are also key factors. All these factors make up a person s wellness and that is the overlying thing that is important. My physical health has improved drastically throughout this course. I started eatinghealthier and having fruits for breakfast instead of my usual stack of waffles. On top of this I started to workout with friends. This is great, but my goal for the future is to continue like this. I fear that once school starts again I will have more available excuses as to why I am not able to keep up these healthy habits. This may seem like an odd thing, but I believe that if I am aware of it than I will make choices than only improve it. Individuals who come into the courthouse at the Law Library are self represented litigants. These people do not have the funds for a lawyer to help them and are doing everything on their own. Many times they are overwhelmed, upset, angry, and confused about what to do. The purpose of interns being at the court is to help them through their issues. One example of this is to simply find the right court file to fill out for a divorce or child custody modification. I love being able to help these individuals because many times I am making their day by helping them find the right form. It sounds simple, but to them it is enormous help. Additionally, the protective order center serves women who are experiencing domestic violence. • 10. The Corrupted Christ Figure In The Poisonwood Bible The Corrupted Christ Figure A Christ figure can share attributes with Jesus and be the antagonist of the story. In Thomas C. Foster s novel How to Read Literature like a Professor, he analyzes what a Christ figure looks like in literature. He argues that a character who shares personality traits and or physical characteristics with Christ is a representation and reflection of Jesus. Similarly, in Barbara Kingsolver s novel The Poisonwood Bible, her character Nathan Price believes he is synonymous to Christ while in reality, he is far from perfect. She uses irony to exploit the idea of the Christ figure. The use of irony as seen in Kingsolver s novel, up ends Foster s claims as to what makes a Christ figure by creating a character who assumes he is Christ yet does not reflect Christ s attributes. A Christ figure represents the attributes of Christ in the way they live. Foster expands on this idea by arguing a list of characteristics regarding Jesus. As readers, he claims, while we may not be all that versed in types and archetypes from the Bible, we generally recognize, whatever our religious affiliation, some of the features that make Christ who he is (Foster 125). If Christ s attributes reflect themselves in a character, readers can use their knowledge to assume the character is a Christ figure. Likewise, Kingsolver uses Nathan Price as an examples of a Christ figure. Nathan comes to the Congo to redeem an unworthy people, has disciples (his family), and wanders the ... It may be made from vegetable oils, animal fats, or both. Shortenings are used for may purposes, so manufacturers have formulated various kinds of fats with various properties. (Gisslen, 2013) All Purpose Shortening Also known as regular shortening, have a tough, waxy texture, and small particles of the fat tend to hold their shape in a dough or batter. They are called plastic shortenings, which means they are moldable at room temperature. They have a good creaming ability. High Ratio Shortening These are soft shortenings that spread easily throughout a batter and quickly coat the particles of sugar and flour. The are call high ratio because they were devised for use in cake batter that contain a high ratio of sugar and liquid to flour. They also contain added emulsifying agents, so they can hold a larger quantity of liquid and sugar than regular shortenings. Which gives a smoother and finer texture to cake and make them moister. Commonly referred to as emulsifying shortening. High ratio shortening does not cream well. When a recipe calls for creaming shortening and sugar, regular shortening should be used. High ratio shortening is often used in icings because it can hold more sugar and liquid without curdling. All of the students tested their reactions by using many different experiments such as catching a ruler without moving your arm, hitting a student under the knee, how long it takes them to complete a puzzle, the ping pong reflex test, and the pupil response. For the ruler experiment one student placed their hand on the ledge of a table while the other dropped the ruler, wherever the student caught it depends on how good their reflexes are. To complete the ping pong reflex one student would lightly throw a ping pong at the other and they will observe their reaction to it. Finally the pupil response reflex was completed by having one student close their eyes for 30 seconds and then the other student would see how their eye changed. Introduction: Reflexes are actions that occur after a response without having to think about doing it. Reflexes are very important to have because they keep us aware of what is happening. For example if you touch a hot stove your body is telling you that its hot which would then help prevent you from burning. A reflex arc is a neural pathway that commands a reflex action. Reflex arcs tell our body to use our reflexes and are very important to us. While completing all of the experiments in lab our body used reflexes and everyone s reaction time varied. Hypothesis: If my reaction time to all of the experiments are high then that means I have good reflexes? Pre Lab Questions: 1. What is the difference between a reflex arc and a nonreflex arc? Costly because of the funding provided by the government, recent layoffs; which has a hand in rising inflation, dealing with negative externalities and high security risks; necessary because the ease and speed of air travel is needed to keep countries productive and competitive. This is because air travel is not the only means of transportation. A person would like the speed and convenience of travel by air, but other transportation alternatives exist. Air travel is both a luxury and a necessity depending on the purpose of its use. For the purpose of vacationing or visiting friends and family, air travel could be considered a luxury, but for the individual or company who relies on the speed of air travel to complete business transactions, it would be considered a necessity. The supply and demand of air travel is impacted by several factors. Air travel is a normal good. The demand for air travel can diminish slightly because there are other means of safer transportation available. The demand can also decrease if it becomes too unaffordable. Consumers with a higher income are able to spend more time vacationing with the use of air transportation. Air travel can be substituted with other forms of transportation if the income of the consumer decreases. The price elasticity of supply for the Airline industry however, is inelastic because even with the shifts in demand for air travel, which were caused by events such as the 9/11 attacks and high gasoline prices, the rates and fares for air travel are able to be set without being effected by those events. Right after World war II (1945), the American Society experienced a great cultural change as minority groups started to take a stand against discrimination. Such a stand bolsters Boorstin s statement that A liberal society thrives on disagreement but is killed by dissension. Disagreement is the lifeblood of democracy, dissention is its cancer. This description clearly relates to the society during the 1960s, for the expression he uses, Dissent is the great problem of America today, is found in The Decline of Radicalism which was published in 1969. With the Civil Rights Movement in full force, it was time the government took serious action, or the cancer would spread. The ongoing racism at the time, made African Americans feel apart from others more than ever. Such isolation can be visible in the complete negligence of the Brown v Board of Education decision. Instead of following the Warren Court s decision of desegregating public schools, in places like Little Rock Arkansas, schools were still segregated. The transfer from a disagreement to disension marks a time in which African Americans led several protests that sparked national outrage. The Woolworth Sit in, for example, had significant impact on the South as the sit ins successfully desegregated lunch counters and other public places. The March on Washington which is the site of Martin Luther King Jr. s I have a dream speech , convinced the government to take action concerning the civil rights movement before more violence could occur. In the following years, The Voting Rights Act of 1965 outlawed the prevention of black citizen class from voting, and seeing that they were threatened to not vote in the south, the government provided federal oversight of elections in places of evident discrimination. Letter From A Birmingham Jail By Martin Luther King Jr Human Rights Activist, Martin Luther King Jr, in his letter, Letter from a Birmingham Jail , writes to the public, justifying his actions against segregation. King s purpose is to convey the idea that segregation is morally wrong in all senses. He displays a disciplined, yet exasperated manner while referencing historical and biblical events, to show society how segregation is inhuman. King begins his letter to the clergymen of Birmingham by comparing his actions to that of biblical figures, seeking social justice. He appeals to the audience s religious beliefs by paralleling the actions taken place. Stating Just as the prophets of the eight century B.C. left their villages and carried their thus saith the Lord far beyond the boundaries of their hometowns, and just as the Apostle Paul left his village of Tarus and carried the gospelof Jesus Christ to the far corners of the Greco Roman world, so am I compelled to carry the gospel of freedom beyond my own home town. He demonstrates this by stating, Just as Socrates felt that it was necessary to create a tension in the mind so that individuals could rise from the bondage of myths and half truths to the unfettered realm of creative analysis and objective appraisal, so must we see the need for nonviolent gadflies to create the kind ... The big question I will be answering is whether or not to buy local or non local foods. I will go over which is safer for the economy, the environment, and people. After I research this, I will then find which one is better to buy. This is a question that each person should ponder before deciding which type of food to buy. My hypothesis is that eating locally will be better and safer for everyone. Do you often find that the foods in your fridge are nonlocal? There are many negative things to contemplate when deciding what type of foods to buy. Issues upon this topic include foodborne illnesses, also known as food poisoning, incorrect processing and handling and preparation of meats, and bacteria. Many multi state waves in which have infected many hundreds of people have lately been traced back to specific farms, food processors, and specific food handlers. (As stated by sustainabletable.org) Some major issues with buying non local foods that have an effect of the earth are pesticides and steroids. They can be put into these foods and can seriously harm the consumer. Pesticides are made to kill pests to the plant, but they often hurt humans instead. This subsequently allowed the ancient Egyptians to begin farming with relative ease as the Nile River stretched some 6500 kilometres, which is more than enough farming area for a civilisation with a relatively small population. The ancient Egyptians were further blessed by the fact that the Nile River, would flood on a yearly basis bringing in rich silt that ultimately acted as fertilisers for the crops, and thus allowing for less labour and higher yield. This will be illustrated using the refugee crisis. Human nature as defined by the Collins dictionary, is the qualities common to humanity . It shows how humans are predisposed to act. Different ideologies have opposing views on human nature; the realist approach would view humans in a very pessimistic way, in that they are uncooperative and choose self interest over moral principle (Nardin, Mapel, 1993, p62). Essentially realism shows that the principle actors in the international arena are states, which act in their own national interests, and struggle for power (Stanford, 2010). In regards to the international system and how nation states collaborate, when there is no authority, and nations do what benefits them the most, international anarchy occurs. This then could lead to potential conflict as there is no authority. Anarchy, in the international context is defined as absence of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A literature review on organizational mission, vision, and value statements reveals that the consensus of the field is that organizations benefit from articulating mission, vision, and value in separate statementsthat are drafted with organizational stakeholders first and foremost in mind. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Recent leadership changes and budget cuts have created a period of organizational crisis in the library, albeit a crisis put into perspective in comparison to the Great Chicago Fire. This situation has meant that many important priorities, like updating the mission, vision, and values statements of the organization have been ignored in lieu of seemingly more pressing issues. The old mission statement of the CPL is not even easily discoverable on the new organizational website. Of course, prioritization is necessary in any healthy institution. Ironically, however, institutional prioritization is not even possible without a clearly articulated mission, vision, and value statements. In this moment of crisis, the CPL would benefit from updated and revised mission, vision, and value statements that more closely reflect the current situation, and a specific vision to move beyond it. This paper provides an overview of the scholarly literature on mission, vision, and value statements to discern the most important features in successful versions of these statements. After recognizing that successful statements must be drafted with users needs in mind, we present new mission, vision, and value statements more appropriate to the current users and surrounding context of the CPL today.
