Trevorce Dating Papers
Research on the specific topic of divorce impacting dating are very slim, subcategories were found to
help understand some of the effects of divorce. One study emphasises how religious aspects and how
religion plays a part in divorce rates. As well as how religion helps the process. Another subcategory
emphasized single parents struggles in dating, and the impacts of having a child while finding a mate.
The last study showed feelings of stress among the divorced population. These subcategories will lead
to a better understanding of a divorced person s state before conducting research to address the
specifics of how divorce impacts dating.

Personal Narrative Essay On Homer s Odyssey
This was the most action packed day of Daryn s life. He had been playing baseball for a couple years
now. He had really enjoyed it and loved playing the game. Today was the middle of the season for the
Trojans. He felt today, something bad was going to happen. His stomach was flipping from side to
side. Nerves were getting to him and he was starstruck. Daryn showed up to the game feeling
nauseous because he was nervous. In his mind he was thinking, Daryn, it s gonna be good. It s all
gonna fine fine. The team sat in the dugout until 15 minutes before the game started. The Trojans went
out and did their warm ups. As they were doing warm ups, Daryn happened to be looking at
something else when the worst possible thing could have happened. ... Show more content on

I just got hit in the eye. He walked over to the dugout and sat down and rested for a minute. Daryn
was sitting in the dugout.
Coach came over and asked, Are you okay? What happened!? So Daryn told him the entire story.
After he was done talking, the coach ran up to the concession stand to get some ice. When he arrived
with the ice, Daryn was still sitting on the bench. Then coach started telling Daryn that he is not gonna
be able to play the second game. Daryn was always a second game player because he wasn t as good
to make first game, which is fortunate in this situation but the point is, Daryn wasn t going to miss the
game.
The most embarrassing part was the moment he had to tell his father. He hoped his dad had to work
that day because he didn t want his dad to see him like this. When his dad got to the game, Daryn
decided just to go up and tell him. His dad was concerned of what happened so that settled Daryn
down a little bit. Coach filled Daryn s dad in on the situation then sat back down in the dugout.
Fortunately, he was fine, it was just a black eye. But, he also had a chance of not being able to play.
The team needed everyone that day because the other team was pretty good. After a while Daryn

Refution Of The Trinity Doctrine By T. Chandler
In spite of a few shortcomings, Chandler s book is well written and easy to understand. He shows that
the Trinity Doctrine is related to Gnostic heresies that the Church condemns. Like most of the Gnostic
heresies, the Trinity Doctrine developed from Greek philosophy and Egyptian paganism, especially
Hermeticism. The notion of Christ as God has its origins in Gnosticism instead of the New Testament.
Thus, he shows that the Trinity Doctrine is essentially a Gnostic creed.
He gives a good history of the development of the Trinity Doctrine and shows that the Emperors of
Rome force Nicene Creed and the others Creeds related to the Trinity Doctrine on the Church. Thus,
the Creed of the Trinity Doctrine was more political than theological. Moreover, the ante Nicene
Fathers were not trinitarians in the sense of the Trinity Doctrine; they were unitarians. ... Show more

Moreover, he discusses several verses that refute the Trinity Doctrine by showing that Jesus is a man,
as opposed to the God man, and subordinate to God, i.e., not coequal with the Father. Additionally, he
discusses the concept of the pre existing Christ, which he concludes is false, and the Holy Spirit,
which he concludes is not a person but an attribute of God.
One problem with his book is that he uses the Jewish and secular humanist dating system of B.C.E.
(before the common era) and C.E. (common era) instead of the Christian dating system of B.C.

Islamic Finance Within Compliance Of Sharia Law
Introduction
Islamic finance within compliance of Sharia law form the core of Islamic banking and have become
one of the fastest growing segments of the financial industry, operating in over 75 countries
(Cihak,Hesse2008). Islamic finance initially was concentrated in the Middle East and South East Asia,
but is now found globally. The roots of Islamic finance stemmed from the efforts of Islamic scholars
to identify alternatives to the interest based system that is prohibited and condemned by Allah within
the Quran. Islamic finance also prohibits the practice of lending money for investments in tobacco,
alcohol, gambling and weapons per Sharia law. In the wake of the global financial crisis however,
there has been a renewed interest on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first states that paying interest is prohibited, thus Islamic banks have to use contracts that create
exposure to the real sector and must ensure efficient risk management (citation needed). The second
principle revolves around the profit and loss sharing concept, where any financial transaction must
share both risk and reward so excessive losses and profits are minimized. The third principle prohibits
uncertainty and/or speculation. Uncertainty in contractual terms and conditions is forbidden, however,
risk taking is allowed only when all terms and conditions are clearly outlined to all participating
parties. The last principle requires the use of asset backing, where each financial transaction must
relate to tangible and/or identifiable underlying assets that ensure Islamic banks remain connected to
the real economy. A better understanding of Islamic finance is called for in all respects.
Islamic Finance Historical and Religious beginnings
Islamic finance took its roots at the beginning of the 7th century when the Prophet Muhammad
claimed to have received revelations directly from God (Allah). At the time of these revelations the
current standards/rules of financial operations were derived from the Quran and the Sunna, however,
since then there has been a continuing process of coordinated adjustment

Common Predictors Of Agricultural Adoption
Several factors that were considered are accepted as common predictors of agricultural adoption in
developing countries. However, three questions related to explanatory variables were not included in
the final questionnaire. Firstly, we did not consider access to bank loans because coffee farmers in
Mexico are mostly unable to obtain investment credit from lending institutions. Coffee producers
usually have the option of obtaining short term financing (cash advances) either from local traders or
from coffee cooperatives for those who are members. However, the availability of long term credit has
virtually disappeared making it difficult for producers to defer the costs of implementing over several
years (AMECAFE, 2009).
Secondly, land tenure arrangements were not factored into the model since the communal land system
in Mexico (ejidos) remains the dominant type of ownership especially in the rural areas of the south
(Brown, 2004). Households in the sampled area continue to work the land under this traditional
system and therefore the inclusion of a variable to capture tenure security could amount to model
misspecification.
Thirdly, analysis of the data indicated that all surveyed producers affiliated with a farmer association
had received extension support through their membership whereas no independent producer had
participated in any form of training . In addition, all of those surveyed who had indicated they were
members of a producer organization belonged to organic

Enemy Release Research Paper
Enemy release is perhaps one of the most elementary forms of reasoning behind why a species has the
potential to become invasive in an introduced environment. The enemy release hypothesis predicts
that an exotic species can become invasive upon it introduction as a result of its escape or release of
specialist herbivores. It also predicts that phenotypic plasticity will be displayed similarly in native
and invasive ecotypes and that both ecotypes will behave and respond alike in common environments
(Rogers and Siemann, 2005). This prediction is derived from the understanding that both native and
invasive ecotypes have similar genetic contribution to tissue type and quality (Rogers and Siemann,
2005). Assuming that specialist herbivores are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In part, this is explained by the novel weapons hypothesis which predicts that invasive plant species
produce chemicals that are novel to generalists of introduced ranges, requiring adaptive evolution for
invasives to become palatable to generalists (Lankau et al., 2004). It is also generally accepted that
invasives tend to alter the soil composition of their introduced ranges (Zou et al., 2006). In some
instances, it is evident that generalists do not feed on invasives in introduced ranges because they lack
the behavioral adaptations necessary to do so (Lankau et al., 2004). In 2002, a greenhouse study was
performed in LaMarque, Texas where grasshoppers (M. augustipennis) were placed large mesocosms
with Triadica and Celtis (common hackberry) to determine possible behavioral shifts of herbivores
when confined to a single food source (Lankau et al., 2004). In fact, grasshoppers exhibited more
herbivory on the exotic Triadica genotypes when compared to relative consumption of native Celtis
genotypes (Lankau et al., 2004). This study suggests that Triadica sebifera is indeed palatable to
generalist herbivores like grasshoppers in its introduced ranges. Generalists, however, require
selective pressure in order to shift their diets to invasive species like Triadica sebifera (Lankau et al.,
2004). Generalist herbivores display no detrimental effects

Comparing Love In Inanna And Symposium
Love s Contribution to Power in Inanna and Symposium The presence of love and power in intimate
relationships is prominent in both the Inanna and the Symposium. Both texts contain examples of
intimate relationships that lead to significant effects on the power of those in the relationship. The
Inanna and the Symposium both illustrate that love is the greatest possible catalyst for the attainment
of power. Love provides individuals with attributes that in turn increase their power. This is illustrated
through the courtship of Dumuzi and Inanna and through the speeches regarding love and the
apprentice relationships that are found in the Symposium. Inanna s rise from a helpless girl to a
powerful goddess is chronicled through the Inanna. She ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
52). Inanna never thought about traveling to the dangerous gates of the underworld before she gained
her power. Her rise in power and dominance is notable when comparing her bold decisions as a
goddess to her helpless behavior from the beginning of the text. Inanna s drastic gain in dominance is
linked to her love life because it occurs directly after her courtship with Dumuzi. Before marrying
Dumuzi, Inanna is still very needy and asks her brother Utu who will weave her bridal sheets for her
and who will bleach them for her (pg. 31). Although Inanna is at first hesitant to marrying Dumuzi,
once they are together, Inanna s sense of dominance and power increases. One example of her
increased dominance is the instance when Inanna calls Dumuzi to bed instead of the other way around,
saying The bed is ready! ...The bed is waiting! (pg. 42). This instance of Inanna s dominance is
significant in relation to her power because it occurs in a Sumerian text where a patriarchal society
was prevalent and a woman calling a man to bed would be considered taboo. Inanna s newly found
dominance after entering marriage and

Essay on Effective Communication
Barriers to Effective Communication
Even though an individual s backgrounds and beliefs can affect the process of communication, one
must utilize the different processes and components to achieve effective communication. Because
barriers block the listening process causing misunderstanding that may block the flow of information
between individuals. Therefore, this misunderstanding may blur the lines of communication utilized
within the criminal justice system.
The basic concept of communication is interaction between two or more people that results in the
passing of information. However, for this process to happen effectively one must understand the
different methods and standards required to achieve the process because without this ... Show more

The officials involved in the Omaha chase had to be able to transmit the information using the radio
about the dangers that they faced to protect the others assisting (Dorland, 2012).
Understanding, Receiving, Feedback, and Retransmitting Although, the dispatcher received the
information he or she would need to understand the fullness of the situation by giving feedback. This
feedback allows the sender transmit further information so that those on the other end of the radio will
receive and understand what is transpiring at the officials location (Dorland, 2012). In a way these five
steps became known as the basis of communication. Because the information goes through a process
that requires the information to transmit through a route that allows both the sender and the receiver to
process information until they decode the entire conversation. However, no matter how well a
communication process works the people involved will always have barriers that can block the
communication process. Because each person has his or her own backgrounds and beliefs that will
cause barriers to be overcome (Wallace Roberson, 2009).
Communication Barriers Even with the best communication process, the initial receiver s confusion of
the information received may come from the distractions around them. Therefore, one must
understand what causes these barriers and come up with a solution because

Richer homeowners also get tax relief for paying their mortgages. Meanwhile, poor black areas are
dumping grounds for toxic waste and garbage, which benefit the wealthier citizens, but they tend to be
the only places poor non whites can afford to live. Low properrty values result in badly funded,
dangerous schools. Wealthier whites avoid these public schools and move to suburbs where their
property taxes go toward building elegant public schools. Trier school is an example. It attracts a
highly trained staff, and boasts an Olympic swimming pool as well as other luxuries. An article about
this suburban school brags that most of the students in it are white. Kozol says that magnet schools
(special public schools built for the most talented students) seem like a good idea, but are also unfair.
The inner city disadvantaged non white students usually don t provide head start programs or educated
parents who can help them push for admittance. Students of magnet schools are mostly white.
Disadvantaged students watch television and know they are being treated like something less than
human. This is savagely cruel. In the next area, New York, Kozol sees the same pattern of filth,
indifference and degradation. The difference between money spent in

The Effect Of Ad Hominem Fallacies And Biases
Analytical Essay on the Effect of Ad Hominem Fallacies and Biases in Writing In writing, fallacies
and cognitive biases hamper the effectiveness with which an author depicts his/her points, and
therefore obscure the main purpose of a piece. A fallacy is defined as mistaken belief based on an
unsound argument, while a bias is a prejudice in favor or against a certain thing, person, object, place,
idea, or belief. There exist countless amounts of different types of fallacies and biases, however,
regardless of whichever a piece of writing contains, when noticed fallacies and biases will negatively
affect writing. When reading and writing, one should remain aware of these fallacies, especially ad
hominem fallacies and biases. As will be displayed in both Langewiesche s and Jones s articles due to
the fact that an abundance of these, divert readers from the main idea of their pieces, cause the authors
credibility to be questioned, and therefore the credibility of the writing to be questioned as well. Ad
hominem fallacies occur when an author instead of directly addressing an opponent s argument, uses a
personal attack on his/her opponent s character or circumstances (Yapp, 2013, p.99). This fallacy
causes two effects on the reader, the first is a bias against the authors opponent, which causes writing
to be ineffective. This, is due to the fact that the reader is not forming an opinion against the authors
opponents argument, but against the authors actual opponent. The

The Spanish and English colonies varied in terms of religion such as immigration and opinions on

In exchange, the encomendero could force the Native Americans to pay tribute in forms of bullion and
labor. Eventually, the native people began to die off from the harsh labor and foreign diseases that the
Spanish brought from Spain. The Native Americans rejected Spanish control and returned to their

After years of fighting, the Spanish regained control. In New England, relationships with local Native
Americans started out peaceful. The Native Americans and settlers of New England began to trade
with each other. Native Americans, who were used to their elementary weapons, acquired better
weapons from the Europeans. This once beneficiary exchange between the two cultures eventually
grew tense. As years went on and more settlers came to America, conflicts arose. An agreement

New Englanders started to settle in the area without notice. The Pequot took this unplanned invasion

The Pessimistic Opportunist By Bram Stoker
The Pessimistic Opportunist We smile, we laugh, we hurt, we cry, we take what we can out of life and

adventures. For as long as I can remember I ve been a pessimist. Admittedly, I ve ruined a lot of my

tried so hard to become that happy go lucky adventurous young lady and somewhere along the way I

I doubt; I fear; I think strange things which I dare not confess to my own soul. These words from
Bram Stoker have become a paramount part of my life. They remind me that it s okay to have doubts
and worries; it s alright to have fears, but I shouldn t limit myself. My doubts have always gotten me
out of trouble. There was a time in 4th grade when a group of my neighborhood friends proposed an
exploration into the abandoned house s closed and shackled backyard. In our defense, the gate wasn t
thoroughly locked and I didn t some ravenous dog foaming at the mouth waiting to attack in the blink

9 year old, that looks like a very intriguing escapade. Technically, we were trespassing on private
property, and no matter what negative feelings or worried comments, I made we ended up squeezing
through the small impending gateway to trouble sealing our fates. Wouldn t you know it, the next day
those tiny rebels went back again but, being the smart little pessimist I am I had a feeling it would be
best to stay behind and play with chalk on the sidewalk by my dad s house. Later, I found out that the
new couple who had just recently purchased the long grassed and rusty estate had noticed some
scrawny children sneaking a peek at their backyard and decided to have a policeman talk some sense

Importance Of Student To Student Observation
When completing the student to student observation a pre kindergarten classroom was observed. There
were fifteen students in the classroom with a teacher and an aide. The students were divided into three
groups of four and one group of three. The groups where cycling through an art center that integrated
math supervised by the aide, a literacy and history center supervised by the lead teacher and a puzzle
center. At the art center being observed, students were following picture directions to count out the
right number of materials to complete their turkey hats. Then they had to follow the directions with
the aide s help to assemble the hat. When observing the teacher student interactions, it was interesting
to see the personality of the four students come out. Student one seemed to be quiet when interacting
with the teacher. She seemed to not give more than one or two word answers, normally yes or no. She
didn t seem to want the teacher help or to interact with the aide. Student two seemed to be the opposite
of student one. While she stayed on topic, she gave elaborate and over detailed answers to the aide.
She seemed to want the aide to only pay attention to her and wanted constant positive feedback from
the aide. She seems to get upset when the aide starting helping the other children and would try to
direct the attention back to herself. It almost be a sense of learned helplessness. Student three seemed
to be a mix between student one and two. When the aide would

Colonization Outweigh The Misfortunes
Why does Smith believe that the benefits of colonization outweigh the misfortunes ? The discovery
and colonization of America completely changed Europe s economy. Smith believed that colonization
benefits outweighed the misfortunes. He believed that both Europe and the colonies benefited because
they could relieve and help each other. However, it was clear that Europe benefited the most while the
natives in the colonies faced the misfortunes. Why does he write that the Indians lead a freer life than
Europeans? Thomas Morton was among one of the first settlers to write about Native Americans. He
claimed that they are guided only by nature and lead a freer, happier life because they were not

Analysis Of The Bhagavad Gita
The Bhagavad Gita is an ancient Indian text that is very crucial to the historical background of the
Hindu religion. Hinduism is the most prevalent religion in India and the Bhagavad Gita is an epic that
those who follow the religion hold dear to their culture. The Bhagavad Gita is a section of a large
Indian epic called The Mahabharata, which is essentially a long epic vital to the Indian culture. Much
like most religious texts, the Bhagavad Gita is a story with multiple morals and symbolic situations
that people who follow the Hindu religion can use to follow their religion and better themselves as
people. It also goes over the ways one should go about working with a calm mind and sense of
purpose and how when you work you should go into it with a positive mindset. These are a few of the
major lessons from throughout the story of this epic.
The Bhagavad Gita has two main protagonists, Krishna and Arjuna, who are actually cousins with
each other through Kunti. Arjuna is a Pandava Prince and Krishna is actually a Hindu deity who goes
by the name of Vishnu. Krishna is a deity disguised as a human who befriends Arjuna within the story.
Despite one character being a god and the other being a mortal, there isn t a lot of personality
dissonance between the two. Arjuna depended on Krishna, who agreed to be his chariot driver during
the war, for guidance. He held nothing but respect for Krishna and Krishna respected him back.
During the story, Arjuna is doing all he can he can

What Are The Similarities Between The Democrats And The Whigs
President Jackson s presidential campaigns of 1828 and 1832 were both successful and won him the

The Whig party viewed how successful the strategies that the Democrats employed were to winning

The Whigs once again choose a decorated war hero just like Jackson. At the time Zachary Taylor was
the most celebrated man in America due to him being part of the Mexican American War (Wilentz

their nominee of being a man for the people. Unlike Jackson, Taylor running for president was his first
time being involved in any politics. However, both ran on a vague platform to an extent. Jackson in
his 1828 election ran on a platform of reform, but when it came to major issue he was quite vague, this
vagueness helped him because it allowed him to mold to the image the people wanted (M Pg.34). For
Jackson, it overall hurt his opponent, Adam, because since he was a former president his actions as
president revealed his stance on major issues. Vagueness was also employed by Zachary Taylor, but to
an even greater extent. Taylor was given to platform at all by the Whigs, in order to keep him out of
political controversy (M Pg.45). Once again this helped him because in such vagueness it was difficult

Human Evolution Essay
Human Evolution
Human evolution is the biological and cultural development of humans. A human is any member of
the species Homo sapiens, meaning wise man. Since at least the Upper Paleolithic era, some 40,000
years ago, every human society has devised a creation myth to explain how humans came to be.
Creation myths are based on cultural beliefs that have been adopted as a legitimate explanation by a
society as to where we came from.
The science of paleoanthropology, which also tries to create a narrative about how humans came to be,
is deeply technical. Paleoantropology is the science of the evolution of humans, and it is the base of all
research in that field. Humans have undergone many different changes during the last hundred ...

We share almost 99 percent of our genetic material with chimpanzees. Yet we have several traits that
are very different. Two legged walking, or bipedalism seems to be one of the earliest of the major
hominine characteristics to have evolved. To accommodate this strange position, we have developed a
specialized pelvis, hip and leg muscles, and an S shaped vertebral column. Because these changes can
be documented in fossil bone, bipedalism is seen as the defining trait of the sub family Homininae.
Much of the human ability to make and use tools and other objects stem from the large size and
complexity of the human brain. Most modern humans have a braincase volume of between 79.3 and
91.5 cubic inches. In the course of human evolution the size of the brain has more than tripled. The
increase in brain size may be related to changes in hominine behavior. Over time stone tools, and other
artifacts became increasingly numerous and sophisticated. It is likely that the increase in human brain
size took place as part of a complex interrelationship that included the elaboration of tool use and tool
making, as well as other learned skills, which permitted our ancestors to be increasingly able to live in
a variety of environments.
The earliest hominine fossils show evidence of marked differences in body size, which may reflect a
pattern of the different sexes in our early ancestors. The bones suggest that females may have been 3
to 4 ft in height and

Green-Wood Cemetery Burial Analysis
Throughout the course, I have paid close attention to the different methods of burial with hopes of
finding an option suitable for my interests when I pass in the future. At Green Wood Cemetery in
Brooklyn, I took an interest in Amy Cunningham, an advocate for green burials. She had many
wonderful experiences and expert opinions on the subject matter of types of burial practices but
mostly accommodated natural full body burials. The topic of green burials interested me greatly and
upon further research, I found a sect of green burials where participants would use their cremains to
help facilitate the growth of a tree. These tree burials seemed like a great solution the question I had

Analysis of Greasy Lake by Tom Coraghessan Essay examples
Analysis of Greasy Lake by Tom Coraghessan
Greasy Lake by Tom Coraghessan Boyle, is the story of a group of adolescents, searching for the one
situation that will proclaim them as bad boys and how their minds change. As the story begins, the
narrator gives the impression that he feels he and the others boys should have taken notice of some
obvious clues about themselves. These clues would have led them to the conclusion that they were far
from the bad guys they wished to be. However, the oblivious teenagers ignore these obvious signs and
continue in search of their goal.
In this story, Boyle uses many symbols to create the theme. The individual vehicles are each symbols

The discovery of the biker s body is the turning point in not only the story, but also in the narrator s
life. In a short time, he has been beaten, has knocked out someone with a tire iron, almost raped a
woman, found a dead body, and watched his mother s Bel Air station wagon be destroyed. Which was
all done for the rush of excitement. While hiding in the water that was previously seen as a tarn of
doom, with all the nights occurrences spinning in his head, he has an epiphany. Standing there he
realizes what becomes of tough guys and discovers that he has found his salvation within his true self.
Accordingly, as the narrator emerges from Greasy Lake, he is a new person with a newly discovered
perspective. As the sun is rising and the songs of birds replace the sounds of crickets, he leaves the
pool of once dismal waters (Boyle 118). This signals his rebirth and his baptism as a reformed
adolescent.
The narrator shares this story from his youth in the words of an educated man. His actions as a teen
are in stark contrast to his phraseology as an adult. Early in the story, he viewed nature as sex, drugs
and rock and roll (Boyle 112 113). However, as the story ends and the turmoil subsides, the narrator
sees nature for the first time, through the eyes of a person matured by this traumatic experience. The
sun firing buds and opening blossoms replaced the once revered beer and

Sartre s Existentialism
Shortcomings of Sartre s Existentialism
[1] Philosophy is the manner in which we describe the world around us. We develop our moral code
and way of life based off of this definition, so the philosophy that we adhere to is a guiding factor in
the way in which we live. In his speech Existentialism is a Humanism, Jean Paul Sartre defends his
philosophy, existentialism, against its critics by arguing that for human existence, precedes essence
(20) because we have free will. Due to this, our essence is constructed through the actions we choose
to take, so that one is no more than the sum of his parts (Sartre 37), making each person responsible
for themself. Sartre argues that this leads to anguish that people are responsible for not just ... Show

As there is no deterministic god or destiny, people are the sole determiners of their actions, according
to Sartre, and thus fully responsible for them.
[3] Sartre argues that each action taken by a person is representative of his or her idea of the proper
way of life in that situation. He provides an example in support of this: if a person joins a Christian
trade union, surely then he or she must believe that being a Christian is the proper lifestyle for all
people, otherwise they would not advocate for it personally. Likewise, if a person becomes a
Communist, they must hold the belief that Communism is the best form of government and should be
instituted everywhere, otherwise they would not desire to live under it (24). In addition, Sartre argues
that people would never choose evil, but rather always good (24), as it would be illogical to make a
choice that is against their own interest. Therefore, when making decisions, one is proclaiming what
he or she believes is best for all people. The idea that in choosing myself, I choose man (25) leads to
an understanding of a vital component of existentialism anguish.
[4] Anguish, defined by Sartre, is the realization that one s idea of how one should live is not just
limited to oneself, but extended to all humans. When one acts, they are declaring to the world their
ideal human image. After introspection, the grave realization that one has a grand responsibility to all
others thrusts a

Importance Of Social Class In Mrs Dalloway
Mrs. Dalloway is an exceptional novel with several varying themes throughout the book. The setting
of the novel takes place after World War I, previously known has the The Great War. The characters
express interesting reactions to topics common during their time period and illustrate their own
struggles. Class structure and social hierarchy play key roles in the novel and has certain effects on the
characters. The British people during that time valued social class as extremely vital. The people in the
upper class love life and enjoy themselves, but ones in the lower class have a challenging time to
move up in society. Woolf illustrates how the lower class basically looks up to the wealthier and more
successful people. The people the main character, Clarissa, associates with herself are all in the same
class or even higher up, for example, the prime minister attends her gathering. Other characters like
Miss Kilman, who Clarissa despises, and Ellie Henderson are envious of Clarissa because they are
lower then her in society. However, Clarissa is not alone but mostly every single character worries
about his/her social status and class whether they are making it larger, keeping it consistent, or feeling
jealous of others. There is a quote in the novel that resonated with me and it was Mrs Dalloway said
she would buy the flowers herself . Which is basically stating how she would have to get up and buy
them herself instead of sending a servant to get them. Therefore, it is

Management of the Educational System
Education in Nigeria is the shared responsibility of the federal, state and local governments. The
Federal Ministry of Education plays a dominant role in regulating the education sector, engaging in
policy formation and ensuring quality control. However, the federal government is more directly
involved with tertiary education than it is with school education, which is largely the responsibility of
state (secondary) and local (primary) governments. The education sector is divided into three sub
sectors: basic (nine years), post basic/senior secondary (three years), and tertiary (four to seven years,
depending on the major or course of study). Education in Nigeria is provided by public and private
institutions. Education is placed on the concurrent legislative list in the 1999 constitution that provides
the legal framework for educational management in Nigeria. This implies that both Federal and State
governments have legislative jurisdiction and corresponding functional responsibilities with respect to
education. By this arrangement, a few functions are exclusively assigned to the Federal or State
government, most of the functions and responsibilities are in fact shared by the three tiers of
government. Statutorily, the Federal Ministry of Education (FME) is at the apex of the regulation and
management of education in the country and to discharge this mandate, the ministry is

I. Introduction. Schindler’S List Begins In Kraków, Poland
I. Introduction Schindler s List begins in Kraków, Poland during World War II. At this time, the Nazi
Party was trying to cleanse the world of impure people including Jews and rounded up all of the
Jewish to make them work. In the movie, Oskar Schindler used Jews from the Kraków ghetto to staff
his factory instead of sending them to concentration camps. At first, he uses them only to make
money, using bribery in order to get workers. Eventually, he realizes he is saving them from harsh
treatment elsewhere and continues to make sure they don t get sent to Plaszów. At the end of the
movie, Schindler creates a list of all the Jews he can afford to buy, around 1,100, and starts a
munitions factory. The munitions they made did not work, so ... Show more content on

In the movie, Amon Goeth, the commandant of the Plaszów camp, sits on his balcony and shoots Jews
with no reason to. During one of the early scenes, a young girl yells, Bye Jews, bye Jews! as the
Jewish are rounded up into the Kraków ghetto, showing that the hatred of the Jewish is learned and
accepted by both young and old. One person can convince many others that their way is the right way
and the only way.
Another important point is that one person can change the world. It is really important to the film
because Schindler was just one man and he alone, with some help from Stern, saved so many lives. He
could have saved one life and still made a difference, but he gave over one thousand people another
chance to live. Each life he saved is a life not lost to the horrors of the Holocaust. He did all he could
possibly do and still didn t think it was enough. During one scene in the movie, a young Nazi boy
finds a girl he knows and her mother. He tells them to come with him and he ll put them in the good
line. Even though he had to follow orders, he still tried to help them. Sometimes it only takes one
person to change another s life for the better.
III. Importance of the Film
Schindler s List is based on the true story of Oskar Schindler. It is brutally honest and gives viewers an
important insight on what actually occurred during the Holocaust. Every time I watch a movie or

Difference Between Round And Square Donuts

Everybody loves to have a donut every once in a while. It s a tasty desert that nobody can deny;
children all the way to adults love it. I am personally a huge donut lover! When I usually walk through
the mall I find different coffee shops selling square donuts, and not only round ones. This is what

While if the producers were to depend on producing round donuts, the donut box would not be
completely filled at the corners, leaving empty spaces at the corner and between two consecutive
donuts. The percentage increase in the amount of donut found per donut suggests as well that it is
better for the producers to make square donuts, which in this case benefits the consumer as well. One
thing that must be taken into consideration when finding the volume of a square donut is that the
corners of this donut are not perfectly edged, which means that even though it fits into a rectangular
box better than a round donut, there are still very minimal empty spaces that are not covered.
Overall, my aim in this experiment is to prove how it will be efficient to produce a square donut and
depend on it, because it will be a new trend that everyone wants to try, there will be more dough per
donut, price change wouldn t be higher than that of a round donut since the diameter of the circle and

A Man s Struggle to Heal Himself in Big Two Hearted River
Ernest Hemingway s Big Two Hearted River * is such a rich text that it has probably received more
literary critical attention than many novels of several times its length. Hemingway s ardent use of
intricate detail and his intentional, calculated use of short, simple sentences help to make River a
treasure chest of critical ideas and possible interpretations. Historically, much of the criticism of River
has examined the dark underlying themes of the story, such as the alleged omission of some
preceding, devastating event and Nick s wounded spiritual and mental state. These sentences, such as
There was no town, nothing but the rails and the burned over country, are ... Show more content on

Through this type of reading, we are able to see the great contrast that exists, especially for Nick,
between the river with its fast moving current and the dark swamp, a representation of whatever
wound from which Nick is trying to heal.
Lewis E. Weeks offers another view, similar to Twitchell s, of River. Weeks points out some problems
with Nick s pitching of the tent which, not surprisingly, is described in a manner such as not to leave
the reader in want of details:
With the ax [Nick] slit off a bright slab of pine... and split it into pegs for the tent. He wanted them
long and solid to hold in the ground... . He pegged the sides out taught and drove the pegs deep, hitting
them down into the ground with the flat side of the ax until the rope loops were buried and the canvas
was drum tight. (214)
From this scene, we cannot dispute Nick s intentionally pitching the tent so that it was drum tight.
Weeks explains:
[T]he problem from the point of view of the outdoorsman is the tightness with which the tent is
pegged down. Canvas shrinks from both dew and rain; and usually notched or hooked pegs are driven
into the ground in line with the tension so that they will pull out as the tent shrinks... always the tent is
pitched with some looseness to allow for changes in humidity. (433)
The question now becomes why Hemingway, an avid outdoorsman, would allow such inconsistencies
to surface in River.

The Effects Of Leptin On Other Human Obese Gene Located On...
Leptin is a protein containing 166 amino acids and is the product of human obese gene located on
chromosome 7q31.3. Leptin is produced mainly by adipose tissue. It is also synthesized in small
amounts in other human tissues such as the stomach, heart, mammary epithelium , placenta, ovaries,
skeletal muscle, pituitary, and liver (Muoio et al., 2002).
After leptin is secreted by the adipose tissue, it enters the brain through the bloodstream. Gastric leptin
may also reach hypothalamus through the vagal nerve and nucleus solitarius. Effects of leptin on
various systems have been reported, including reproduction, immune system, hematopoesis,
angiogenesis, bone formation and wound healing. It plays an important role in energy balance by
inhibiting energy intake contrary to ghrelin, and by regulating body weight and energy homeostasis
(Moran Phillip, 2003).
The expression of leptin by adipose tissue is also influenced by feeding behaviour. Short term (12 h)
or long term (2 or 8 weeks) overfeeding results in an increase in adipocyte leptin expression and
circulating leptin in healthy human subjects. Furthermore, circulating leptin levels show a diurnal
pattern and are influenced by gender, age, exercise and glucose uptake (Table 3).

The Origins Of The Chubb Corporation Essay
Corporate Overview
The origins of the Chubb Corporation date back to 1882 when Thomas Caldecot Chubb and his son
Percy opened their marine underwriting business in the seaport district of New York City. Having
collected $1,000 from each of 100 prominent merchants to start their venture, they focused initially on
insuring ships and cargoes. The Chubb s were adept at turning risk into success, often by helping their
policyholders prevent disasters before they occurred. By the turn of the century, Chubb had
established strong relationships with the insurance agents and brokers who placed their clients
business with Chubb underwriters. Chubb Son did not value size in itself but regarded it as a measure
of what had been achieved. Upon the Company s 75th anniversary in 1957, Hendon Chubb who had

Default Risk And The Ways Of Identifying It Essay
Default Risk and the ways of identifying it in corporate bond market
Introduction
In bond market, there are a number of bonds offered for investors to purchase such as Treasury bonds,
municipal bonds, mortgage securities and so on. Among these various bonds, one particular kind of
bond is the corporate bond which attracts a wide range of investors with their higher return. However,
there are no free lunches in financial market. Being accompanied by the high yield, the corporate bond
investors have to face higher default risk which is the risk that the issuer will default on its debt
obligation in bond market. Especially after the 2008 crisis crunch in which vast amounts of debt
default occurred, an increasing number of investors realize the significance of identifying the default
risk in the bond investments. This essay will first consider the reason why investors ought to recognize
the default risk and secondly, will explore the different ways in which investors can identify the
default risk of corporate bonds.
Importance of recognizing default risk
In bond market, one important indicator of distinguishing the different bonds is the degree of default
risk. A good example of this is Treasury bonds and corporate bonds. These two bonds are similar in
the structure of coupon payment and the principal return, however, Treasury bonds generally may be
viewed as the free of default risk as we all know the government would not go bankruptcy easily,
which is a good option for

Argument From Design Arguments
In this paper I will explain the Argument from Design. From there I will address what I find to be the
two best objections to the Argument from Design. Then I will explain why I do not find these
arguments persuasive. The Argument from Design is based upon two basic premises. The first premise
is that if something performs a function then it is a product of intelligent design and is produced by the
designer in order to serve this purpose. The second premise is that the material universe also includes
functional complexity that has the same features. The material universe is full of functions. If
something has a function, then it must be complex. If something is complex then it must have an
intelligent designer. The argument quite simply states ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Having a heterogeneous structure doesn t make something complex. Mount Blanc, for example,
should not be considered complex. It does have a heterogeneous structure, but it doesn t serve a
particular purpose. If the mountain was rearranged completely it would still be a mountain no matter
what order its parts are in. It could have been arranged by mere chance. Living things or things that
serve a purpose cannot be arranged by mere chance and still perform their function. However, the
results are very different if a living thing is rearranged and its parts are put in a different order. If a
living thing is rearranged, it s not likely that it will be able to live let alone function the same. The
same results of that of a living thing are applied to complex things that function. If a computer is
assembled in random order by chance, the odds are astronomically low that it will function correctly if
it functions at all. This same principal is applied to the natural and material world. If it was assembled
by mere chance and if the parts were arranged in any different order the odds of it actually functioning
correctly are astronomically low. Therefore, everything must have been designed by an intelligent
designer to have the unique physics that allow them to function properly, unique parts that allow

  • 3. Personal Narrative Essay On Homer s Odyssey This was the most action packed day of Daryn s life. He had been playing baseball for a couple years now. He had really enjoyed it and loved playing the game. Today was the middle of the season for the Trojans. He felt today, something bad was going to happen. His stomach was flipping from side to side. Nerves were getting to him and he was starstruck. Daryn showed up to the game feeling nauseous because he was nervous. In his mind he was thinking, Daryn, it s gonna be good. It s all gonna fine fine. The team sat in the dugout until 15 minutes before the game started. The Trojans went out and did their warm ups. As they were doing warm ups, Daryn happened to be looking at something else when the worst possible thing could have happened. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I just got hit in the eye. He walked over to the dugout and sat down and rested for a minute. Daryn was sitting in the dugout. Coach came over and asked, Are you okay? What happened!? So Daryn told him the entire story. After he was done talking, the coach ran up to the concession stand to get some ice. When he arrived with the ice, Daryn was still sitting on the bench. Then coach started telling Daryn that he is not gonna be able to play the second game. Daryn was always a second game player because he wasn t as good to make first game, which is fortunate in this situation but the point is, Daryn wasn t going to miss the game. The most embarrassing part was the moment he had to tell his father. He hoped his dad had to work that day because he didn t want his dad to see him like this. When his dad got to the game, Daryn decided just to go up and tell him. His dad was concerned of what happened so that settled Daryn down a little bit. Coach filled Daryn s dad in on the situation then sat back down in the dugout. Fortunately, he was fine, it was just a black eye. But, he also had a chance of not being able to play. The team needed everyone that day because the other team was pretty good. After a while Daryn started feeling perfectly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Refution Of The Trinity Doctrine By T. Chandler In spite of a few shortcomings, Chandler s book is well written and easy to understand. He shows that the Trinity Doctrine is related to Gnostic heresies that the Church condemns. Like most of the Gnostic heresies, the Trinity Doctrine developed from Greek philosophy and Egyptian paganism, especially Hermeticism. The notion of Christ as God has its origins in Gnosticism instead of the New Testament. Thus, he shows that the Trinity Doctrine is essentially a Gnostic creed. He gives a good history of the development of the Trinity Doctrine and shows that the Emperors of Rome force Nicene Creed and the others Creeds related to the Trinity Doctrine on the Church. Thus, the Creed of the Trinity Doctrine was more political than theological. Moreover, the ante Nicene Fathers were not trinitarians in the sense of the Trinity Doctrine; they were unitarians. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Moreover, he discusses several verses that refute the Trinity Doctrine by showing that Jesus is a man, as opposed to the God man, and subordinate to God, i.e., not coequal with the Father. Additionally, he discusses the concept of the pre existing Christ, which he concludes is false, and the Holy Spirit, which he concludes is not a person but an attribute of God. One problem with his book is that he uses the Jewish and secular humanist dating system of B.C.E. (before the common era) and C.E. (common era) instead of the Christian dating system of B.C. (before Christ) and A.D. (anno Domini, in the Year of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Islamic Finance Within Compliance Of Sharia Law Introduction Islamic finance within compliance of Sharia law form the core of Islamic banking and have become one of the fastest growing segments of the financial industry, operating in over 75 countries (Cihak,Hesse2008). Islamic finance initially was concentrated in the Middle East and South East Asia, but is now found globally. The roots of Islamic finance stemmed from the efforts of Islamic scholars to identify alternatives to the interest based system that is prohibited and condemned by Allah within the Quran. Islamic finance also prohibits the practice of lending money for investments in tobacco, alcohol, gambling and weapons per Sharia law. In the wake of the global financial crisis however, there has been a renewed interest on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first states that paying interest is prohibited, thus Islamic banks have to use contracts that create exposure to the real sector and must ensure efficient risk management (citation needed). The second principle revolves around the profit and loss sharing concept, where any financial transaction must share both risk and reward so excessive losses and profits are minimized. The third principle prohibits uncertainty and/or speculation. Uncertainty in contractual terms and conditions is forbidden, however, risk taking is allowed only when all terms and conditions are clearly outlined to all participating parties. The last principle requires the use of asset backing, where each financial transaction must relate to tangible and/or identifiable underlying assets that ensure Islamic banks remain connected to the real economy. A better understanding of Islamic finance is called for in all respects. Islamic Finance Historical and Religious beginnings Islamic finance took its roots at the beginning of the 7th century when the Prophet Muhammad claimed to have received revelations directly from God (Allah). At the time of these revelations the current standards/rules of financial operations were derived from the Quran and the Sunna, however, since then there has been a continuing process of coordinated adjustment ... • 7. Common Predictors Of Agricultural Adoption Several factors that were considered are accepted as common predictors of agricultural adoption in developing countries. However, three questions related to explanatory variables were not included in the final questionnaire. Firstly, we did not consider access to bank loans because coffee farmers in Mexico are mostly unable to obtain investment credit from lending institutions. Coffee producers usually have the option of obtaining short term financing (cash advances) either from local traders or from coffee cooperatives for those who are members. However, the availability of long term credit has virtually disappeared making it difficult for producers to defer the costs of implementing over several years (AMECAFE, 2009). Secondly, land tenure arrangements were not factored into the model since the communal land system in Mexico (ejidos) remains the dominant type of ownership especially in the rural areas of the south (Brown, 2004). Households in the sampled area continue to work the land under this traditional system and therefore the inclusion of a variable to capture tenure security could amount to model misspecification. Thirdly, analysis of the data indicated that all surveyed producers affiliated with a farmer association had received extension support through their membership whereas no independent producer had participated in any form of training . In addition, all of those surveyed who had indicated they were members of a producer organization belonged to organic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Enemy Release Research Paper Enemy release is perhaps one of the most elementary forms of reasoning behind why a species has the potential to become invasive in an introduced environment. The enemy release hypothesis predicts that an exotic species can become invasive upon it introduction as a result of its escape or release of specialist herbivores. It also predicts that phenotypic plasticity will be displayed similarly in native and invasive ecotypes and that both ecotypes will behave and respond alike in common environments (Rogers and Siemann, 2005). This prediction is derived from the understanding that both native and invasive ecotypes have similar genetic contribution to tissue type and quality (Rogers and Siemann, 2005). Assuming that specialist herbivores are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In part, this is explained by the novel weapons hypothesis which predicts that invasive plant species produce chemicals that are novel to generalists of introduced ranges, requiring adaptive evolution for invasives to become palatable to generalists (Lankau et al., 2004). It is also generally accepted that invasives tend to alter the soil composition of their introduced ranges (Zou et al., 2006). In some instances, it is evident that generalists do not feed on invasives in introduced ranges because they lack the behavioral adaptations necessary to do so (Lankau et al., 2004). In 2002, a greenhouse study was performed in LaMarque, Texas where grasshoppers (M. augustipennis) were placed large mesocosms with Triadica and Celtis (common hackberry) to determine possible behavioral shifts of herbivores when confined to a single food source (Lankau et al., 2004). In fact, grasshoppers exhibited more herbivory on the exotic Triadica genotypes when compared to relative consumption of native Celtis genotypes (Lankau et al., 2004). This study suggests that Triadica sebifera is indeed palatable to generalist herbivores like grasshoppers in its introduced ranges. Generalists, however, require selective pressure in order to shift their diets to invasive species like Triadica sebifera (Lankau et al., 2004). Generalist herbivores display no detrimental effects ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Comparing Love In Inanna And Symposium Love s Contribution to Power in Inanna and Symposium The presence of love and power in intimate relationships is prominent in both the Inanna and the Symposium. Both texts contain examples of intimate relationships that lead to significant effects on the power of those in the relationship. The Inanna and the Symposium both illustrate that love is the greatest possible catalyst for the attainment of power. Love provides individuals with attributes that in turn increase their power. This is illustrated through the courtship of Dumuzi and Inanna and through the speeches regarding love and the apprentice relationships that are found in the Symposium. Inanna s rise from a helpless girl to a powerful goddess is chronicled through the Inanna. She ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 52). Inanna never thought about traveling to the dangerous gates of the underworld before she gained her power. Her rise in power and dominance is notable when comparing her bold decisions as a goddess to her helpless behavior from the beginning of the text. Inanna s drastic gain in dominance is linked to her love life because it occurs directly after her courtship with Dumuzi. Before marrying Dumuzi, Inanna is still very needy and asks her brother Utu who will weave her bridal sheets for her and who will bleach them for her (pg. 31). Although Inanna is at first hesitant to marrying Dumuzi, once they are together, Inanna s sense of dominance and power increases. One example of her increased dominance is the instance when Inanna calls Dumuzi to bed instead of the other way around, saying The bed is ready! ...The bed is waiting! (pg. 42). This instance of Inanna s dominance is significant in relation to her power because it occurs in a Sumerian text where a patriarchal society was prevalent and a woman calling a man to bed would be considered taboo. • 10. Essay on Effective Communication Barriers to Effective Communication Even though an individual s backgrounds and beliefs can affect the process of communication, one must utilize the different processes and components to achieve effective communication. Because barriers block the listening process causing misunderstanding that may block the flow of information between individuals. Therefore, this misunderstanding may blur the lines of communication utilized within the criminal justice system. The basic concept of communication is interaction between two or more people that results in the passing of information. However, for this process to happen effectively one must understand the different methods and standards required to achieve the process because without this ... The officials involved in the Omaha chase had to be able to transmit the information using the radio about the dangers that they faced to protect the others assisting (Dorland, 2012). Understanding, Receiving, Feedback, and Retransmitting Although, the dispatcher received the information he or she would need to understand the fullness of the situation by giving feedback. This feedback allows the sender transmit further information so that those on the other end of the radio will receive and understand what is transpiring at the officials location (Dorland, 2012). In a way these five steps became known as the basis of communication. Because the information goes through a process that requires the information to transmit through a route that allows both the sender and the receiver to process information until they decode the entire conversation. However, no matter how well a communication process works the people involved will always have barriers that can block the communication process. Because each person has his or her own backgrounds and beliefs that will cause barriers to be overcome (Wallace Roberson, 2009). Kozol examines the inequities in school financing between Urban and suburban schools, Chapter 3 (2 points) In 1964, the author, Jonathan Kozol, is a young man who works as a teacher. Meanwhile, poor black areas are dumping grounds for toxic waste and garbage, which benefit the wealthier citizens, but they tend to be the only places poor non whites can afford to live. Low properrty values result in badly funded, dangerous schools. Wealthier whites avoid these public schools and move to suburbs where their property taxes go toward building elegant public schools. Trier school is an example. It attracts a highly trained staff, and boasts an Olympic swimming pool as well as other luxuries. An article about this suburban school brags that most of the students in it are white. Kozol says that magnet schools (special public schools built for the most talented students) seem like a good idea, but are also unfair. The inner city disadvantaged non white students usually don t provide head start programs or educated parents who can help them push for admittance. Students of magnet schools are mostly white. Disadvantaged students watch television and know they are being treated like something less than human. This is savagely cruel. • 12. The Effect Of Ad Hominem Fallacies And Biases Analytical Essay on the Effect of Ad Hominem Fallacies and Biases in Writing In writing, fallacies and cognitive biases hamper the effectiveness with which an author depicts his/her points, and therefore obscure the main purpose of a piece. A fallacy is defined as mistaken belief based on an unsound argument, while a bias is a prejudice in favor or against a certain thing, person, object, place, idea, or belief. There exist countless amounts of different types of fallacies and biases, however, regardless of whichever a piece of writing contains, when noticed fallacies and biases will negatively affect writing. When reading and writing, one should remain aware of these fallacies, especially ad hominem fallacies and biases. As will be displayed in both Langewiesche s and Jones s articles due to the fact that an abundance of these, divert readers from the main idea of their pieces, cause the authors credibility to be questioned, and therefore the credibility of the writing to be questioned as well. Ad hominem fallacies occur when an author instead of directly addressing an opponent s argument, uses a personal attack on his/her opponent s character or circumstances (Yapp, 2013, p.99). This fallacy causes two effects on the reader, the first is a bias against the authors opponent, which causes writing to be ineffective. This, is due to the fact that the reader is not forming an opinion against the authors opponents argument, but against the authors actual opponent. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These words from Bram Stoker have become a paramount part of my life. They remind me that it s okay to have doubts and worries; it s alright to have fears, but I shouldn t limit myself. My doubts have always gotten me out of trouble. There was a time in 4th grade when a group of my neighborhood friends proposed an exploration into the abandoned house s closed and shackled backyard. In our defense, the gate wasn t thoroughly locked and I didn t some ravenous dog foaming at the mouth waiting to attack in the blink of an eye. No, it was utterly silent with its exquisitely open and eerily inviting aura; to a curious little 9 year old, that looks like a very intriguing escapade. Wouldn t you know it, the next day those tiny rebels went back again but, being the smart little pessimist I am I had a feeling it would be best to stay behind and play with chalk on the sidewalk by my dad s house. Later, I found out that the new couple who had just recently purchased the long grassed and rusty estate had noticed some scrawny children sneaking a peek at their backyard and decided to have a policeman talk some sense into those hellions. Since at least the Upper Paleolithic era, some 40,000 years ago, every human society has devised a creation myth to explain how humans came to be. Creation myths are based on cultural beliefs that have been adopted as a legitimate explanation by a society as to where we came from. Two legged walking, or bipedalism seems to be one of the earliest of the major hominine characteristics to have evolved. To accommodate this strange position, we have developed a specialized pelvis, hip and leg muscles, and an S shaped vertebral column. Because these changes can be documented in fossil bone, bipedalism is seen as the defining trait of the sub family Homininae. Much of the human ability to make and use tools and other objects stem from the large size and complexity of the human brain. Most modern humans have a braincase volume of between 79.3 and 91.5 cubic inches. In the course of human evolution the size of the brain has more than tripled. The increase in brain size may be related to changes in hominine behavior. Over time stone tools, and other artifacts became increasingly numerous and sophisticated. It is likely that the increase in human brain size took place as part of a complex interrelationship that included the elaboration of tool use and tool making, as well as other learned skills, which permitted our ancestors to be increasingly able to live in a variety of environments. The earliest hominine fossils show evidence of marked differences in body size, which may reflect a pattern of the different sexes in our early ancestors. We develop our moral code and way of life based off of this definition, so the philosophy that we adhere to is a guiding factor in the way in which we live. In his speech Existentialism is a Humanism, Jean Paul Sartre defends his philosophy, existentialism, against its critics by arguing that for human existence, precedes essence (20) because we have free will. As there is no deterministic god or destiny, people are the sole determiners of their actions, according to Sartre, and thus fully responsible for them. [3] Sartre argues that each action taken by a person is representative of his or her idea of the proper way of life in that situation. He provides an example in support of this: if a person joins a Christian trade union, surely then he or she must believe that being a Christian is the proper lifestyle for all people, otherwise they would not advocate for it personally. Likewise, if a person becomes a Communist, they must hold the belief that Communism is the best form of government and should be instituted everywhere, otherwise they would not desire to live under it (24). In addition, Sartre argues that people would never choose evil, but rather always good (24), as it would be illogical to make a choice that is against their own interest. Therefore, when making decisions, one is proclaiming what he or she believes is best for all people. The idea that in choosing myself, I choose man (25) leads to an understanding of a vital component of existentialism anguish. [4] Anguish, defined by Sartre, is the realization that one s idea of how one should live is not just limited to oneself, but extended to all humans. The setting of the novel takes place after World War I, previously known has the The Great War. The characters express interesting reactions to topics common during their time period and illustrate their own struggles. Class structure and social hierarchy play key roles in the novel and has certain effects on the characters. The British people during that time valued social class as extremely vital. The people in the upper class love life and enjoy themselves, but ones in the lower class have a challenging time to move up in society. Woolf illustrates how the lower class basically looks up to the wealthier and more successful people. The people the main character, Clarissa, associates with herself are all in the same class or even higher up, for example, the prime minister attends her gathering. Other characters like Miss Kilman, who Clarissa despises, and Ellie Henderson are envious of Clarissa because they are lower then her in society. However, Clarissa is not alone but mostly every single character worries about his/her social status and class whether they are making it larger, keeping it consistent, or feeling jealous of others. One person can convince many others that their way is the right way and the only way. Another important point is that one person can change the world. It is really important to the film because Schindler was just one man and he alone, with some help from Stern, saved so many lives. Weeks points out some problems with Nick s pitching of the tent which, not surprisingly, is described in a manner such as not to leave the reader in want of details: With the ax [Nick] slit off a bright slab of pine... and split it into pegs for the tent. He wanted them long and solid to hold in the ground... . He pegged the sides out taught and drove the pegs deep, hitting them down into the ground with the flat side of the ax until the rope loops were buried and the canvas was drum tight. Canvas shrinks from both dew and rain; and usually notched or hooked pegs are driven into the ground in line with the tension so that they will pull out as the tent shrinks... always the tent is pitched with some looseness to allow for changes in humidity. • 34. The Effects Of Leptin On Other Human Obese Gene Located On... Leptin is a protein containing 166 amino acids and is the product of human obese gene located on chromosome 7q31.3. Leptin is produced mainly by adipose tissue. It is also synthesized in small amounts in other human tissues such as the stomach, heart, mammary epithelium , placenta, ovaries, skeletal muscle, pituitary, and liver (Muoio et al., 2002). After leptin is secreted by the adipose tissue, it enters the brain through the bloodstream. Gastric leptin may also reach hypothalamus through the vagal nerve and nucleus solitarius. Effects of leptin on various systems have been reported, including reproduction, immune system, hematopoesis, angiogenesis, bone formation and wound healing. It plays an important role in energy balance by inhibiting energy intake contrary to ghrelin, and by regulating body weight and energy homeostasis (Moran Phillip, 2003). The expression of leptin by adipose tissue is also influenced by feeding behaviour. Short term (12 h) or long term (2 or 8 weeks) overfeeding results in an increase in adipocyte leptin expression and circulating leptin in healthy human subjects. • 42. Argument From Design Arguments In this paper I will explain the Argument from Design. From there I will address what I find to be the two best objections to the Argument from Design. Then I will explain why I do not find these arguments persuasive. The Argument from Design is based upon two basic premises. The first premise is that if something performs a function then it is a product of intelligent design and is produced by the designer in order to serve this purpose. The second premise is that the material universe also includes functional complexity that has the same features. The material universe is full of functions. If something has a function, then it must be complex. If something is complex then it must have an intelligent designer. The argument quite simply states ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Having a heterogeneous structure doesn t make something complex. Mount Blanc, for example, should not be considered complex. It does have a heterogeneous structure, but it doesn t serve a particular purpose. If the mountain was rearranged completely it would still be a mountain no matter what order its parts are in. It could have been arranged by mere chance. Living things or things that serve a purpose cannot be arranged by mere chance and still perform their function. However, the results are very different if a living thing is rearranged and its parts are put in a different order. If a living thing is rearranged, it s not likely that it will be able to live let alone function the same. The same results of that of a living thing are applied to complex things that function. If a computer is assembled in random order by chance, the odds are astronomically low that it will function correctly if it functions at all. This same principal is applied to the natural and material world. If it was assembled by mere chance and if the parts were arranged in any different order the odds of it actually functioning correctly are astronomically low. Therefore, everything must have been designed by an intelligent designer to have the unique physics that allow them to function properly, unique parts that allow ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
