Essay On Antoni Gaudi
Antoni Gaudí, a Catalan architect has become internationally recognized as one of the most prodigious
experts in architecture, as well as the one of the top exponents of modernism.
His exceptional ground breaking genius made him the inventor of a unique and personal architectural
language that defies classification. The work of Gaudí is remarkable for its range of forms, textures,
polychromy and for the free, expressive way in which these elements of his art seem to be composed.
The complex geometries of a Gaudí building so coincide with its architectural structure that the whole,
including its surface, gives the appearance of being a natural object in complete conformity with
nature s laws. Such a sense of total unity also informed the life ... Show more content on

In 2010, the uncompleted church was consecrated as a basilica by Pope Benedict XVI.
The magnificence of Antoni Gaudí s architecture coincided, as the result of a personal decision by the
architect, with a progressive withdrawal by the man himself. Gaudí, who in his youth had frequented
theatres, concerts and tertulias ( social gatherings), went from being a young dandy with gourmet
tastes to neglecting his personal appearance, eating frugally, and distancing himself from social life,
while simultaneously devoting himself even more fervently to a mystical and religious sentiment.
Gaudí died on the 10th of June, 1926, after being knocked down by a tram while making his way, as
he did every evening to the Sagrada Família from the Church of Sant Felip Neri. After the struck, he
lost consciousness, and nobody suspected that this disheveled 74 old man who was not carrying any
identity documents, was the famous architect. He was taken to the Santa Cruz Hospital, where he was
later recognized by the priest of the Sagrada Família. Two days later, Gaudí was buried in that vary
church, following a funeral attended by throngs of people; most of the citizens of Barcelona came out
to bid a final farewell to the most universal architect that the city had ever

Essay about Analysis of Anne Sexton s Poem Her Kind
Analysis of Anne Sexton s Poem Her Kind Anne Sexton was a poet and a woman, but most
importantly, she was an outcast. Subjected to nervous breakdowns and admitted to a neuropsychiatry
hospital, Sexton must have been all too familiar with the staring eyes and the judging minds of the
public. Just being a woman in today s world often can be enough to degrade a person in the public s
eye, let alone being labeled as a crazy woman. But Anne Sexton did not let society remain
unchallenged in its views. She voiced a different opinion of women through poetry. In Anne Sexton s
Her Kind the speaker of the poem embraces society s negative stereotype of modern, liberated women
and transforms it into a positive image. Two voices, the voice of ... Show more content on

This distancing shows how she is different from society; perhaps society pushes her away because she
is different, or perhaps society sees her as different because she has segregated herself from the typical
lifestyle of civilization. Either way, the voice of society chants, A woman like that is misunderstood
(Line 13). Society must get rid of her because it cannot see her point of view. Moreover, Anne Sexton
uses stunning imagery to illustrate the pain society inflicts on an outcast. The speaker compares
herself to a witch who has been carted off to an insane asylum and claims I have ridden in your cart,
driver, I waved my nude arms at villages going by, I learning the last bright routes (Lines15 17). She
vividly describes pain through torture methods practiced on witches during the Inquisition. For
example, she feels she has been burned at the stake because society s flames still bite my thigh (Line
18). The speaker s ribs crack where your wheels wind (Line 19) on another torture device, the wheel.
The words still in the phrase still bite (Line 18) stresses that tortures have not gone out of style but
have merely changed shape, and society still employs them to resist the change in power towards
women. Although the physical tortures are no longer obvious in America, women s success is still
lagging because of the attitude of society. The public supposes that she is not

The Power Struggles in Jury of Her Peers and Mama Come Home
The issue of dominance and subordinance is addressed in the short stories A Jury of her Peers by
Susan Glaspell and Mama Come Home by James Tiptree, Jr. In the stories the subordinates are
harmed by the dominants, but the subordinates overcome the suppression to triumph in the end. The
groups with the power control the laws and the positions of the weaker group.
To begin with, A Jury of her Peers is about the way women in 1917 were treated by men. The main
women characters are Minnie Wright, Mrs. Peters, and Mrs. Hale. The women in the story are
confined to their homes; rarely getting to go to town or visit with their friends. The women did not

The men also think all the housework the women do and the things they worry about are trifles. The
women receive no credit for their work. Dirty towels! Not much of a housekeeper, would you say,
ladies? (Glaspell 264) The women become depressed and lonely.
The subordinates are harmed both physically and emotionally in the story Mama Come Home. The
giant women overpower the smaller men. They beat the men and rape them. The giant women use the
men as sex slaves. They see the men as inferior and only good for sex. The men are physically harmed
because they are bruised and beaten by the Capellans. The standing one had my neck in a vise at arm s
length, and when I worked the standard finger bend she laughed like a deep bell and casually twisted
up my arm until things broke. (Tiptree 69) They are emotionally damaged because they are taken
advantage of. Anyone that is raped becomes torn up inside.
In the story Jury of her Peers, the women are thought of as inferior. The men treat the women like they
are not able to do the same things as the men. But would the women know a clue if they did come
upon it? (Glaspell 266) The women have feminine intuition. They know the pain from isolation that
Minnie was going through and know what clues to look for. Again, for one brief moment, the two
women s eyes found one another. (Glaspell 280) The men underestimate that the women can think on
this level.

Alexis De Tocqueville Cold War
In 1835, French historian, Alexis de Tocqueville wrote that, There are at the present time two great
nations in the world [...] I allude to the Russians and the Americans [...] Their starting point is
different, and their courses are not the same; yet each of them seems marked out by the will of Heaven
to sway the destines of half the globe. Tocqueville s insightful view was proven in the aftermath of the
Second World War with the emergence of a bipolar international system where the American and
Soviets sought geopolitical, ideological and economic hegemony.
The Cold War encompassed a lengthy period of the world history spanning from 1945, after the end of
the Second World War to 1991 with the collapse of the Soviet Union. However, the relations between
the Soviet Union and the United States had always been lukewarm at best as distinct differences in the
political systems of the two countries often hindered them from reaching a mutual understanding that
led to shift between cautious cooperation to bitter superpower rivalry over the years. The fluctuate
relations between the two power eventually reached its peak with a hostile rivalry that lasted for
almost half of a century. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Statement Of Music Therapy
I believe that helping people and taking care of each other is our duty. We should use our talents to
accommodate the needs of not only ours but, others too. This is my motivation for becoming a Music
Therapist. This profession ties two of my strong interests as I have been a musician under
development for 7 years. I strongly believe and have been told that my personal qualities are exactly
what it takes to work in therapy. I am patient, respectful, responsible and supporting. These four
qualities are essential when working with vulnerable adults, adolescents, and children.
An immediate goal of mine is to improve my knowledge on all of the different types of illnesses that
are dealt with in Music Therapy. I have always been interested in ... Show more content on

I have gained experience with working with Nursery aged children, as well as secondary school
adolescents. Every day worked with school children is very rewarding when I know that I have taught
them something or, given them a fresh, new outlook on something. I continue to take on exciting
opportunities to work with charities. Due to the upcoming World Awareness Autism day, I will soon be
helping with the bucket collections in busy places in London. I believe that this is an exciting
opportunity because I will be able to share my gathered knowledge on Autism.
After completing the Postgraduate course at Anglia Ruskin University, I am eager to start work with
the NHS. My ideal sector would be the elderly, as I have gotten to know the Alzheimer s disease more,
it has become an increasingly desirable group for me to work within the future. Thus this would be my
ideal area of work, I would also like to experience working with Autistic patients because that is also
an interest of mine. I trust that my experience and skill set are a strong match to study on the Music

All About the ACL Essay
In November of 2010, I was playing basketball in the fifth game of my senior season. It was just like
any other game. However, I would soon find out otherwise. It was late in the game; I drove into the
lane and got fouled hard. I was knocked so off balance that I speared the floor with my knee. As soon
as my knee hit the floor I heard a snap that I will never forget for the rest of my life. Little did I know
at the time, that would be the last shot of my high school basketball career. Not long after my injury, I
consulted a doctor. After getting an x ray and an MRI, the doctor informed me that I had completely
torn my ACL and would need to have surgery. An ACL tear can be a very devastating injury. The

The main function of the ACL is to restrict forward movement and inward rotation of the lower leg
and control hyperextension of the knee.
An injury to the ACL is classified as a sprain. A sprain is a joint injury that causes a stretch or a tear in
a ligament. Sprains are graded I, II, or III depending on how severe the injury is. A grade I sprain will
have pain with minimal damage to the ligaments. A grade II sprain is going to have more ligament
damage and mild looseness of the joint. Finally, in a grade III sprain, the ligament is completely torn
and the joint is very loose or unstable. A grade III sprain, simply called an ACL tear, is most often a
sports related injury. Still, The ACL can be torn in other instances such as during rough play, vehicular
collisions, falls, and work related injuries. According to a study performed by Jonathan Cluett, M.D.,
about 80% of sports related ACL tears are non contact injuries. This means that the injury does not
result from any contact with another athlete. A rupture to the ACL is the result of the ligament within
the knee being overstretched. This is usually caused by a plant pivot mechanism (a stop and twist
motion) of the knee, or a blunt force to the front of the knee. Other factors include quick changes of
motion, twisting or torquing, or landing from a jump. Hyperextension is most

Slavery As A Social Problem
The objective reality in this social problem begins with the modernization of the world we live in and
its high demands for convenience. Although, slavery has been abolished in the United States,
Americans still support slavery. It is imperative that Americans maintain a supply and demand quota
of a variety of items being produced from other countries at any cost. America is not the largest
country in the world but, Americans seem to use up the most of the world s resources. Americans need
to open their eyes, and stop calculating their profit margins. How can Americans requests for
convenience at the cost of putting families back into slavery, causing the death of a children, and even

Primarily, Americans need to start searching for new inventions with means to provide convenience.

Essay On Self Confidence
Self confidence is the foundation of success, achievement, and happiness. Unfortunately, the
foundation of self confidence can become shaky and unstable if someone that you look up to as a role
model hurts your self esteem and courage. One of the biggest role models in my life used to be my
first club soccer coach. He seemed brilliant, passionate, and willing to work with my team. This man
soon became the complete opposite of what I hoped he would be. I soon realized that he was a two
faced liar and one of the most awful people I have ever met. Little did my ten year old self know he
would be the downfall of my self confidence and he would slowly destroy any passion I had for the
sport I loved all with only a few words.
At the age of ten I was the most energetic, go lucky, confident girl. I excelled at my beloved sport,
soccer. I had been playing since I was just a mere five years old, far longer than the other girls.
Playing so long had helped me be at a higher level of skill than most of the other players on my team.
During my first season of competitive travel soccer I thought I had been blessed with an amazing
coach. His name was Kenrick Ramirez. Kenrick was from Trinidad and Tobago and had a thick
caribbean accent that at first I could not understand. I was intrigued by Kenrick s personality because
he was so much different than the other typical soccer coaches I had had my whole life. He seemed to
know everything like he was the soccer god. Unfortunately, none of

How To Mummification Process Essay
How To Mummify a Body To start the mummification process the body of the deceased would first be
taken to the place of purification to be cleansed. The body is initially washed with palm wine, and
then rinsed with water of the Nile river. One of the embalmers would then make an incision into the
deceased s left side and remove most of the internal organs to prevent them from decomposing. These
organs are then packed in natron salt in order to dry them out and keep them preserved. At the time the
brain wasn t known to be of any importance or have any function, so a long metal hook was stuck
through the deceased s nose, the brain was crushed and mashed, pulled it out back through the nose
and disposed of. On the contrary, the heart was left in the body because it was believed to be the
center of intelligence and feeling ( Mummification ) and was needed in the afterlife. Before the organs
were wrapped and returned to the body, they were each stored in special canopic jars with different
gods for the corresponding organs. The liver was protected by Imsety, the human looking god; the

body is filled with sawdust, and oiled one last time before being completely wrapped in linen. When

individually. Then the arms and legs are wrapped and between those layers of linen, protective
amulets are placed to protect the deceased s soul in the afterlife, including such amulets as the Isis
Knot , and the plummet . While all this is happening, a priest would say prayers to ward off evil spirits

Fall Of Acre Mongols
Out of the Mongols, Christians, and Muslim, the most barbaric warriors would have to be the
Muslims. Examples that support this answer comes from the text The Fall of Acre. When the Muslims
would conquer a castle on their way to Acre, they would step over the enemies corpses while
marching and the city of Acre was burned within the walls. The Muslims couldn t break the Christians
at Acre so they made a truce between the crusaders and the Muslims slewed them into captivity in
Babylon. On one account of an Islamic historian he stated that a single one of the Muslim warriors
would enter a village or a quarter wherein were many people, and would continue to slay them one
after another, none daring to stretch forth his hand against this horseman.

Doctor Faustus by Christopher Marlowe
What would you sell your soul for? A question Faustus had to ask when he wanted to gain more than
just knowledge. England during the 1550 s had gone through many changes with religion, leaving the
people unsure of what they wanted. When Elizabeth finally claimed throne and stayed Queen for a
forty five year reign, there were stable religious changes. For an escape and way of entertainment,
society would attend plays. Due to the changing events during the Elizabethan era, plays were a stress
reliever for the people such as the play Doctor Faustus; written by Christopher Marlowe who was also
dealing with his own religious problems symbolizing the life of Elizabethan times.
England had four different rulers take the throne within a twenty year span. Henry VIII ruled in 1509,
being well known for having married six wives and wanting to produce a male heir (Singman 1).
Henry wanted a divorce; he asked for the pope to help him and ended in rejection. Henry was angry
resulting in his passing of legislation that separated him from the Roman Catholic Church (Singman
1). After his third wife gave birth to Edward VI, she died. In 1547, after his father s death, Edward
took throne under age advised by guardians. He died before he came of age to rule on his own.
(Singman 2). The next oldest child was Mary, an extreme Catholic. She reunited England with the
Catholic Church; that soon changed after she died in 1558 after her short ruling (Singman 2). The

including Google, Audi, BMW and Mercedes are investing in this project. The idea of a vehicle

Literary Devices In Edgar Allen Poe s The Raven
Self Torture Edgar Allen Poe utilizes various literary devices in order to create a dark tone in his
poem, The Raven. Poe s use of alliteration and repetition are instrumental to the melodic nature of the
work, as well as providing a rather visual representation of his gothic setting. He also utilizes pathos to
evoke a response from the reader through emotions (fear, desire, etc.) In addition, the point of view
plays a key role in this poem, but its reliability may be questioned. All of these aspects of the poem
combine to show the human need to torture oneself and to try to do anything to find optimism in a
time of grief and denial. In reality, this way of coping isn t effective and will just hurt the person more.
Alliteration is the repetition of consonant sounds in the beginning of a sentence. Poe uses alliteration
to add tension within the poem. From my books surcease of sorrow sorrow for the lost Lenore, (Line
10). This example shows alliteration with the use of imagery and makes the lines more meaningful. In
addition, it conveys Poe s feeling of sadness and depression. He also uses alliteration to add to the
creepy, entrancing mood of the poem as seen in the following example, Doubting, dreaming dreams
no mortal ever dared to dream before, (Line 26). The following verse from the poem describes the
way the character was feeling about the lost of his loved one. From

Chewing Gum Should Be Allowed In School
How many times have you been asked to spit out your gum in class? Countless, I bet. Most teachers at
Episcopal abide by the policy that gum chewing in class is not allowed. They say it s inconsiderate.
They say it s distracting. They say it has no place in the classroom. These teachers, however, are
overlooking the countless benefits of gum chewing. Chewing gum in class can help students stay
focused, can help students stay active, and can help students perform better overall. Banning gum in
school more often than not can cause more harm than good. Gum chewing should be allowed in class.
Sitting in five classes a day for times ranging from 55 to 70 minutes, it is a battle of the will to stay on
task. Whether distracted by the middle schoolers playing, carefree, on the green or the clicking of
someone s pen, it takes true willpower to not shift focus. What if there was a simple way to help
students with this? It turns out, there is: gum. Kate Morgan, the author of a gum chewing study in
British Journal of Psychology, proved that Interestingly participants who didn t chew gum performed
slightly better at the beginning of the task but were overtaken by the end. This suggests that chewing
gum helps us focus on tasks that require continuous monitoring over a longer amount of time. It is a
true enigma that despite scientific results, Episcopal still bans chewing gum in school. This year, a

Yokuts California Case Study
The Yokuts: A California Case Study
The Yokuts inhabited the San Joaquin valley in California. There were over 40 independent groups
and each of them had a distinct name, dialect and territory. The San Joaquin Valley is bounded by
mountains on the east, west and south and to the north flow the Kern and San Joaquin rivers into the
ocean. The climate in the valley is hot with dry mild summers, semiarid winters and very minimal
precipitation. Originally, the area was rich in a network of rivers, streams, lakes and sloughs fed by
waters from Sierra Nevada to the east and it is very productive and rich in resources such as food,
wood for construction, firewood and manufacturing tools. After these rivers and streams were diverted
for agricultural purposes, the valley dried up and became a vast area of farmland. The foothills
elevations are higher and cooler and are occupied by some Yokuts groups. They managed their
environment both passively and actively to improve forage for deer, eliminate underbrush growth,
make it easy to traverse, and for hunters as well. Passively, they did religious ceremonies to ensure the
continuation of favorable conditions.
The Yokuts spoke the Penutian language but each mini tribe spoke a different dialect. The earliest
recorded contact with the Europeans was when the Spanish came looking or renegade soldiers.

The Conservative Case Against The Death Penalty
The United States have been divided over the controversy of whether or not the death penalty is a
humane punishment to use against criminals. Eighteen states, as well as the District of Columbia, have
banned it, the remaining states have not. The government and law enforcements believe the death
penalty deters crime rates across America. This has yet to be proven right. In S. E. Cupp s article, The
Conservative Case Against the Death Penalty , she says: The country needs to have a clear eyed
conversation about the death penalty, one that puts both anecdotal and emotional arguments aside in
favor of some serious analysis. In addition, one thing to question is the motive behind capital
punishment. The desire for retribution on someone is one of the lowest human emotions. It can be
understandable, but not a very coherent response to a critical situation. Raymond A. Schroth says: To
kill the person who has killed someone close to you is simply to continue the cycle of violence which
ultimately destroys the avenger as well as the offender. This an eye for an eye deal seems to contribute
to this cycle of violence. The government and U.S. prosecutors seem to think that killing someone for
a criminal act that they have done will send a message to others and make them give a second thought
before murdering someone or attempting to do so.
But, statistics from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) have shown that the homicide rates in
the states against the death

Ireland and see themselves as Irish whereas Unionists want to be part of Britain and see themselves as
British. Before partition this caused many problems because Nationalists resented being ruled from
London, where the politicians there probably had never even been to Ireland and so, in their opinion
could not know what would be best for the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This gives them prejudiced views and means they judge each other on their religion. This comes from
generations of dislike which over the years has been distorted into hate. Protestants believe that Rome,
the Pope and the whole of the Catholic Church have a huge say in the running of Eire. Catholics
however deny this and say that although many Catholics will live their life around the Church and the
beliefs of the Catholic Church, the British government allow the Church of England a much greater
say in the running of the country.
Stemming from this lack of knowledge about each other s religion is the problem that Protestants
believe Catholics have no personal freedom. The Catholic Church does not allow divorce or abortion
as they believe marriage is sacred; as is life, so to kill a child or end a marriage is to go against God.
As most Catholics want to lead good lives and follow the teachings of the Bible and religious leaders,
then they agree that divorce and abortion are wrong and so, the fact that the Irish government says
abortion is illegal does not bother them. Protestants living in Ireland though see this as an
infringement upon their freedom and freewill.
Throughout Northern Ireland there are symbols of different loyalties, on one wall will be painted a
mural in memorial of William of Orange and his victory at the Battle of the Boyne over the

Investigating The Optical Performance Of Photonic Crystals
abstract Photonic crystal is a composite dielectric with periodic modulation of refractive index that
brings about unique photonic band gap effect by which light could be totally reflected on the surface
of such material regardless of any incident angle or mode. Such bandgap effect could be understood
by investigating the optical performance of photonic crystals. In this paper, photonic bandgap
calculations are performed for two dimensional photonic crystals using matlab. Plane wave expansion
method is used to solve Maxwell s equations. The effect of lattice constant and refractive index is
investigated.
Introduction Photonic crystals are special class of optical media with periodic modulation of refractive
index by arrangement of dielectric material. They respond to light waves over a desired range of
frequencies by perfectly reflecting them or allowing them to propagate only in certain directions or
confining them within a specified volume. Photons either propagate through this structure or they don
t. Frequencies that propagate are called modes, and groups of allowed modes form bands. Disallowed
bands of frequencies are called photonic band gaps. This property of photonic bandgap is utilised to
manipulate light propagation. In particular, we can design and construct photonic crystals with
photonic band gaps, preventing light from propagating in certain directions with specified frequencies

Analysis Of Beauty When The Dancer Is The Self
An unknown author from thethingswesay.com once said, Beauty is the opposite of perfection it s
about confidence, charisma and character. For many people, women especially, this concept seems
unrealistic. In the autobiography Beauty: When the dancer is the self by Alice Walker, she identifies
with this perception of life and applies it to the societal views of beauty. Through her autobiography,
she sets the stage by explaining her childhood, beginning with her sassy and independent nature as a
two and a half year old. Proceeding several years later, she describes her pain from being shot in the
eye by her brother and the cover up that altered their relationship. Next came the feelings of diffidence
and timidity from the accident, that led to her physical and mental decline. Finally, the acceptance of
past events, followed by, the ability to see the world in her eye (Walker 40) enables Walker to value
herself and spread the message of self acceptance. Using the pain felt from that shot, both mental and
physical, she is able to define a new chapter in her life and become an award winning novelist. By
writing to a broad audience, she is able to make a greater impact as she delves into the process of
taking pain and despair and transforming it into self celebration. In Walker s essay, she addresses this
reoccurring theme by employing structural preferences, logical appeals and the use of imagery to
cultivate a powerful message of personal growth. In Walker s essay, she

Essay on Brothers of the Bible
Brothers of the Bible
The Old Testament sibling rivalries between Cain and Abel, Esau and Jacob, and Joseph and his
brothers were similar in some ways and different in others, but they all hold lessons for us today, for
brothers today still face many of the same problems in life that challenged brothers thousands of years
ago.
Cain and Abel were in a situation much more unique than Esau and Jacob, and Joseph and his brothers
faced, for the society they lived in was extremely small, and they each had a direct relationship with
God. As the book of Genesis tells us, Cain was the first born son of Adam and Eve. Their next son was
a boy whom they named Abel. As Cain and Abel grew up both took responsibilities for making a
living. Abel ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cain takes the road of denial rather than hiding from God; even more, he turns the question back to
God implying impropriety in God?s question. ?Keeping? is not something human beings do to one
another in the Old testament; only God keeps human beings; hence God should know the answer to
the question. (Abingdon, 373)
Another unique element of the Cain and Abel rivalry and its tragic aftermath is that God personally
punished Cain for the murder of Abel, and sent him into exile. But God also showed some mercy to
Cain which protected him from harm at the hands of others by putting a mark upon him. The narrator
leaves him as one who has been placed under the very special care of God. Hence, the story ought not
to be interpreted in basically negative terms, but rather as the activity of one who lives under divine
protection and care. (Abingdon, 375)
The sibling rivalry between Jacob and Esau didn?t result from envy due to God?s reaction to their
sacrifices, but from envy over parental favoritism. In addition to this, the rivalry also involved a
number of other factors and began even before they were born. As God explained to Rebekah when
the twins were still in her womb, ?the two children inside you will become the fathers of two nations.
Just like the two are fighting with each other now, the two nations will struggle with each other. One
will be stronger than the other. and the older will serve the younger.? (Genesis 33) God explains to her

The First Invention Of Radiology
The first invention of radiology began with the creation of X rays in 1895 when Wilhelm Roentgen, a
50 year old professor of physics at Germany s University of Wurzburg, made a discovery that would
in a very short time change medical and human history. Though, discovered by accident, Roentgen s
discovery would help detect tumors, broken bones and bullets buried within bodies, never before seen
with the naked eye. Since the invention of X rays, there had been numerous discoveries of similar
inventions, from image intensifier to ultrasound to magnetic resonance imaging. Without these
inventions, humans would not have been able to see the inner workings of the body or detect key
information in modern times that allow us to prevent serious illnesses where other inventions proved
useless since imaging plays a huge role in diagnosis. In current society, radiology s first creation has
been exposed to most citizens, whether it is to detect a broken bone at the doctor s or to determine a
person s risk of getting cavities at the dentist s. Although, inventions from radiology does hold risks of
radiation exposure amongst its patients, the benefits of them greatly outweighs its risks.
Before the development and research of radiology, life was simplistic with little knowledge of
observing the internal organs of a person. If a patient was shot, doctors had to, literally, poke around
their patient s organs with their fingers or use electrical induction machine to send sound waves

Franco Zefferelli s Romeo and Juliet and Baz Luhrmann s...
The astounding perils of young love has been eloquently captured in the story of Romeo and Juliet.
Franco Zefferelli and Baz Luhrmann are the creators of the two most renowned film adaptations of
William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet. Zefferelli, the more traditional director, created his Oscar
winning version in 1968. Baz Luhrmann put an abstract, modern twist on Shakespeare s classic and
created the 1996 version that raised millions of dollars in box office sales. Being that these two films
are so different, I have chosen to compare them to one another, using the famed balcony scene as my
focus.
In the Franco Zefferelli adaptation, proceeding the extravagant Capulet party, Romeo walks down a
dark stone path alone with his very ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She vocalizes her love and adoration for Romeo, not knowing that every word she speaks falls upon
his ears. Unable to contain his elation about what he has just heard, Romeo leaps from the darkness
below the balcony, abruptly startling Juliet. She retreats towards the doorway of her room, feeling
violated and unsure about Romeo s presence. She appears angry because of their families hatred
towards eachother. The interaction between them is forbidden, so she turns towards the her room,
ready to leave, until she is halted by Romeo s confession. If given the opportunity, he would choose to
deny the Montague name so that he may share his life with her. Surprised, Juliet returns to where
Romeo awaits her.
During this scene, the soft light continually falls upon Juliet s angelic face, yet Romeo predominantly
remains in the darkness, shadowed. This may reference the goodness of the Capulets and the supposed
evilness of the Montagues from Juliet s standpoint. The camera is also pointed up during this scene
when directed towards Juliet, yet pointed down when directed towards Romeo. Zefferelli may have
used these camera angles to show that Juliet is considered someone Romeo admires although he is
considered a lesser man by the Capulet family.
As the scene continues, Juliet explains to Romeo the consequences of them being caught together, and
as she sadly and amorously gazes at him, he hides behind a tree branch to protect himself. Juliet

Fifth Business Identity Quotes
In Fifth Business, Robertson Davies attempts to illustrate the quest for self identity through the life of
the novel s protagonist, Dunstable Ramsay. During the first pages of this novel, a life changing
incident occurs that severely affects the fates of the three main characters: Dunstable Ramsay, Percy
Staunton, and Paul Dempster. In the small town of Deptford, Ontario, Percy Staunton, the town s
bully, throws a snowball bearing a stone at Dunstable. Being clever boy, Dunstable quickly ducks out
of the way and the snowball collides with pregnant Mrs. Dempster s skull. As a result, Mrs. Dempster
loses her sanity, goes into early labour, and gives birth to her premature child, Paul Dempster.
Although Dunstable was not the one to throw the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fifth Business is divided into six immense chapters around forty five pages each somewhat
representing a key period of Dunstan Ramsay s life: his childhood, the identity change, Mrs. Dempster
s sainthood, his friendship with Boy, the development of his self confidence and the unveiling of the
snowball incident. Then, each of these megachapters is divided into an average of eight subchapters.
This is extremely confusing due to the fact that the subchapters hardly ever relate in their entirety to
the main focus of the megachapter. Thus, the book is filled with irrelevant sections that contribute
neither to the plot nor to the unveiling of the characters personalities. For example, although the
primary focus of chapter three is Dunstan s quest to discover Mrs. Dempster s sainthood, he spends an
entire subsection of four pages describing Boy and Leola s wedding. The sole information that I
retained from those four pages was that Leola looked like a silver spoon in her dress. Likewise, the
use of figurative language contributed to the confusing style of Fifth Business. Throughout the book,
Robertson Davies often attempted to foreshadow upcoming events in Dunstan Ramsay s life.
However, this use of figurative language did nothing but add confusion to the plot, for it was not very
subtle. For example, in the very beginning of the book, Dunstan Ramsay mentions Paul Dempster for
the first time: That was how Paul Dempster, whose reputation is doubtless familiar to you (though that
was not the name under which he gained it), came to be born early on the morning of December 28 in
1908. (Davies, 5). In this sentence, Robertson Davies had attempted to foreshadow Paul s change of
identity; but, only added confusion to the plot, for at this point in the book, the reader does not have
enough information about Paul Dempster to fully comprehend the foreshadow.

Enzymes are proteins that speed up chemical reactions in cells. They break down molecules called

American Imperialism
Although imperialism was certainly driven by the desire for economic gain, trade, and the demand for
new raw materials, it is a bit unfair to contend that imperialism was driven by only economic and
strategic interests; likewise, imperialism was greatly impacted by non economic concepts such as
nationalism, civilization, and cultural diffusion. Nevertheless, Imperialism is defined as the policy of
expanding a country s power and influence through diplomacy or military force.
Firstly, imperialism was heavily affected by imperialism, especially in its initial stages. Many
imperialist nations during the age of expiration sought to conquer islands before their competitors
could. For instance, countries such as Spain and Portugal competed to see ... Show more content on

European powers additionally clung to the racist belief that inferior races should be conquered in order
to civilize and educate them. Another instance of conquests based on ethnocentrism include that of the
United States and the Philippine islands. Imperial nations often believed that their cultural
values/beliefs were far more superior, and thus they believed that imperial conquest would bring
successful culture to these inferior people. In other words, the Europeans acted on their ethnocentrism,
the belief that one race/nation is superior to others. As for the US invasion of the Philippine islands,
the Americans actions are depicted in a poem named The White Man s Burden that justifies
imperialism as a noble enterprise of civilization, conceptually related to the American Philosophy of
Manifest Destiny. As for manifest destiny, it was a widely held belied in the United States that its

themes: 1) The special virtues of the American people and their institutions. 2) The mission of the
United States to redeem and remake the west in the image of agrarian America. This is seen in the
Spanish American war, whereby the United States ended Spanish colonial rule in the Americas and
resulted in U.S. acquisition of territories in the Western Pacific and Latin America. Following this

And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie
Agatha Christie s riveting novel, And Then There Were None, is one that has suspense all the way to
the very end. Eight strangers are invited to Indian Island, off the English coast. Their names are Dr.
Armstrong, Vera Claythorne, Philip Lombard, William Blore, Emily Brent, General Macarthur, Tony
Marston, and Judge Wargrave. All think they are meeting someone different for different reasons.
When they arrive on the island though, they are greeted by Mr. and Mrs. Rogers, who are servants for
the host; the host is someone with the name Mr. Owen. The group is told that Mr. Owen will not arrive
until the next day. That evening that they arrive there is a recording played at dinner that accuses each
one of them of committing murder. While discussing this, they come to realize that no one actually
knows who Mr. Owen is.
While the guests discuss what they do for a living, the first victim of this ongoing crime is taken. Tony
Marston chokes on poisoned whiskey which leads to his death. All of the guests come to the
agreement that it must be suicide. As all the guests then go to bed, Mr. Rogers goes into the dining
room and is puzzled to find that one of Ten Little Indian figurines is missing. Getting ready for bed
Vera Claythorne notices the similarity between the death of Marston and the first verse of a nursery

How Does Jetblue Compare And Contrast Virgin Southwest And...
2. Competitive Environment
JetBlue has been recognized for offering cheap flights to business travelers, in the same way that other
airlines come up with similar offers for different types of travelers. In 2009, (case study) JetBlue was
on top of the list of the low cost carriers. The airline is classified as a major carrier, which means their
annual revenue starts at $1 billion, JetBlue has a $3 billion revenue, still and all it is mentioned that
JetBlue is smaller in comparison to other major airlines.
Over the years, one of the main competitors of jetBlue has been Southwest. In a 2009 report it was
mentioned that two other low cost airlines, Virgin America and SkyBus, were some of the biggest
competitors for jetBlue (case study); however, a 2013 analysis might have suggested in some way that
JetBlue was about to have new airlines to compete with, Singapore Airlines and Emirates Airlines, by
introducing new features and technological innovation in their offerings (Popova, 2013). Airlines are
implementing these improvements in order to attract more customers that look for comfort, but at the
same time affordability. It can increase the competitivity, but it is not noticeable immediately.
Even though, JetBlue is not directly competing with other international airlines, a comparison and
contrast with competitors such as Southwest and Virgin America can be seen in small, but important
details such as the baggage allowance. JetBlue has fare options in order to find out the amount of
baggages admitted, the first fare is called Blue Flex, and it allows to bring a maximum of two checked
bags under 50 pounds at no cost, a third bag would cost $100; the second one, the Blue Plus fare
allows only one bag under 50 pounds, a second bag has a cost of $35, and a third bag would cost
$100; the third and last fare is called Blue and the first checked bag under 50 pounds has a cost of $25,
the second bag $35 and a third or fourth bag would cost $100 (JetBlue, 2017).
On the other hand, Southwest doesn t have specific fares to decide bag allowance, they simply allow 2
checked bags per customer at no cost (Southwest, 2017). Also, Virgin America which is another
competitor of JetBlue has a fee of $25 per checked bag

Essay Comparing Waiting For Icarus And Virute Des Beaux Arts
The two poems Waiting for Icarus and Musée des Beaux Arts are narrative poems. Musée des Beaux

Muriel Rukeyser and published in 1973. The poem Musée des Beaux Arts is about how no one truly

One such difference lies in the divergent tones that the poets use in their individual poems. The tone in
Musée des Beaux Arts, for example, is that of utter indifference towards the plight of Icarus. Perhaps
this is because the event Auden is describing is merely happening in a painting and not actually
happening in front of his persona, or perhaps Auden uses such a tone in order to further convey to his
audience the lack of interest everyone else displays in regards to Icarus dilemma. An example of the
unhurried and apathetic attitude everyone has in Musée des Beaux Arts is clearly shown when Auden
writes, While someone else is eating or opening a window or just walking dully along; / How, when
the aged are reverently, passionately waiting / for the miraculous birth (lns. 4 6). Auden writes these
lines in order to show his readers how everyone is carrying on with their life in the manner that they
always do, regardless of what tragedies may befall others. Auden wants to show his readers that
people will still eat, open windows, and be born despite what calamities may be happening near them.
Ruth Bernard Yeazell agrees that the tone in Musée des Beaux Arts is that of indifference when she
states in an article that, It is not just that the ploughman is not paying attention, but

The Copyright Law Of Canada Connected With An Ethical Line...
This paper discusses the copyright law in Canada connected with an ethical line in music sharing.
Before embarking on the discussion, it is imperative to understand what copyright entails under the
umbrella of intellectual property; the latter refers to intangible property, which is entirely a creation of
the mind (Alexander Penalver, 2012, p. 188). Copyright is the exclusive right granted to the original
author of literary work. In this effect, it prevents other people from using an authorship without
authorization by the original author. The latter grants license for the reproduction of copies of the
work, its usage, as well as distribution in lieu of some fee, i.e. royalty. Merges (2011) explains that

After the period elapses, any person can use, print, publish, and distribute the original work. The
music industry has been in dispute for many years in respect to music piracy. It went after software
and website developers, as well as consumers in the courts (Easley, 2005, p.163). As a result, this may
be why governing the expansion of the music industry towards later benefits for the industry;
however, not toward those who pirate from them (Easley, 2005, p.163). There is clear evidence of a
willingness to pay for online music in general through legal download services such as iTunes (Easley,
2005, p.163). It is clear that some new markets are emerging; for example, services such as 4G LTE
combine music with other services. These markets may provide both better margins and better
copyright protection to the music industry. Nevertheless, some forms of music piracy may ultimately
come to be seen as an effective marketing channel for those services (Easley, 2005, p.163). Clearly the
industry is adapting piracy issues. Based on the information mentioned above, the objective of this
paper is to emphasize the ethical dimensions of sharing music in the Canadian context. There are
different ways of such sharing like burning, lending, downloading, and uploading among others. The
argument is that burning and downloading are unethical while

The On The Arid Coastline Of Oil Rich Libya
On the arid coastline of oil rich Libya you can find a struggling desert community consumed in war
and crime the city of
Benghazi. Beginning with the overthrow of King Idris in 1969 and the 42 year reign of dictator
Muammar Gaddafi, Libya has been anything but a stable country. The controversial dictatorship of
Gaddafi, his overthrowing in 2011, and the subsequent reign of terror by numerous militant groups
that hold Benghazi in their grip to this day have contributed to numerous deaths (Maslin, 2016) and
thousands displaced. Another aspect of Benghazi s fight for survival stems from the relatively recent
introduction of constant fresh water. In 1953, while searching for oil, Gaddafi discovered an ancient
underground aquifer that since has been the #1 source of fresh water for Libya (Borrell, 1986). With
waging war causing power outages and infrastructure at risk of being bombed, this water source,
called fossil water, is unreliable as ever (Hrimark, 2011) Amidst an unstable government, ISIS s reign
of terror and an unreliable source of water, Benghazi is at risk of losing itself as a civilization.
On September 1,1969 Muammar Gaddafi, leader of the Revolutionary Command Council, overthrew
King Idris and took control of Libyan government. Gaddafi s actions were fueled by his want of
independence from western civilization and to obtain power over the majority of the oil supply in
Libya (Okechukwu, 2012). During his 42 year reign of power, Gaddafi made many

Gilgamesh Hero s Journey
The Epic of Gilgamesh is known as the first great heroic narrative, featuring a hero that s theorized to
be the inspiration of other heroes, such as Hercules and Achilles. Joseph Campbell states that all
heroes follow a cycle in The Power of Myth, The usual hero...takes off on a series of adventures
beyond the ordinary. Using this description, it s clear that Gilgamesh fought the ghastly monsters, felt
the powerful emotions that come with both victory and loss, and had the motivations that all heroes
following the Hero s Journey have had. Throughout the course of the epic, Gilgamesh encounters
many monstrous beasts, such as Humbaba and the Bull of Heaven which correlates with the Crossing
of the Threshold. The Belly of the Whale is symbolized ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the Hero s Journey, the step after the Crossing of the First Threshold is the Belly of the Whale. This
can be described as the hero s lowest point, but it is also the beginning of the transition from the hero s
old self into his or her new self. Because he killed Humbaba and the Bull of Heaven, Enkidu is
sentenced to die of a wasting disease. Gilgamesh wept for him, because he was the only person he
loved other than himself. Gilgamesh lamented; seven days and seven nights he wept for Enkidu, until
the worm fastened on him (31). It is clear that this was Gilgamesh s lowest stage, which matches the
description of the Belly of the Whale. It also correlates with the fact that Gilgamesh cared for Enkidu;
before the two met, Gilgamesh was a selfish ruler. Gilgamesh is slowly transforming into a new
person that does not put wealth and his own needs first, but rather a charitable and courageous hero
and

  • 2. Essay On Antoni Gaudi Antoni Gaudí, a Catalan architect has become internationally recognized as one of the most prodigious experts in architecture, as well as the one of the top exponents of modernism. His exceptional ground breaking genius made him the inventor of a unique and personal architectural language that defies classification. The work of Gaudí is remarkable for its range of forms, textures, polychromy and for the free, expressive way in which these elements of his art seem to be composed. The complex geometries of a Gaudí building so coincide with its architectural structure that the whole, including its surface, gives the appearance of being a natural object in complete conformity with nature s laws. Such a sense of total unity also informed the life ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 2010, the uncompleted church was consecrated as a basilica by Pope Benedict XVI. The magnificence of Antoni Gaudí s architecture coincided, as the result of a personal decision by the architect, with a progressive withdrawal by the man himself. Gaudí, who in his youth had frequented theatres, concerts and tertulias ( social gatherings), went from being a young dandy with gourmet tastes to neglecting his personal appearance, eating frugally, and distancing himself from social life, while simultaneously devoting himself even more fervently to a mystical and religious sentiment. Gaudí died on the 10th of June, 1926, after being knocked down by a tram while making his way, as he did every evening to the Sagrada Família from the Church of Sant Felip Neri. After the struck, he lost consciousness, and nobody suspected that this disheveled 74 old man who was not carrying any identity documents, was the famous architect. He was taken to the Santa Cruz Hospital, where he was later recognized by the priest of the Sagrada Família. Two days later, Gaudí was buried in that vary church, following a funeral attended by throngs of people; most of the citizens of Barcelona came out to bid a final farewell to the most universal architect that the city had ever ... • 3. Essay about Analysis of Anne Sexton s Poem Her Kind Analysis of Anne Sexton s Poem Her Kind Anne Sexton was a poet and a woman, but most importantly, she was an outcast. Subjected to nervous breakdowns and admitted to a neuropsychiatry hospital, Sexton must have been all too familiar with the staring eyes and the judging minds of the public. Just being a woman in today s world often can be enough to degrade a person in the public s eye, let alone being labeled as a crazy woman. But Anne Sexton did not let society remain unchallenged in its views. She voiced a different opinion of women through poetry. In Anne Sexton s Her Kind the speaker of the poem embraces society s negative stereotype of modern, liberated women and transforms it into a positive image. Two voices, the voice of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This distancing shows how she is different from society; perhaps society pushes her away because she is different, or perhaps society sees her as different because she has segregated herself from the typical lifestyle of civilization. Either way, the voice of society chants, A woman like that is misunderstood (Line 13). Society must get rid of her because it cannot see her point of view. Moreover, Anne Sexton uses stunning imagery to illustrate the pain society inflicts on an outcast. The speaker compares herself to a witch who has been carted off to an insane asylum and claims I have ridden in your cart, driver, I waved my nude arms at villages going by, I learning the last bright routes (Lines15 17). She vividly describes pain through torture methods practiced on witches during the Inquisition. For example, she feels she has been burned at the stake because society s flames still bite my thigh (Line 18). The speaker s ribs crack where your wheels wind (Line 19) on another torture device, the wheel. The words still in the phrase still bite (Line 18) stresses that tortures have not gone out of style but have merely changed shape, and society still employs them to resist the change in power towards women. Although the physical tortures are no longer obvious in America, women s success is still lagging because of the attitude of society. The public supposes that she is not ... The Power Struggles in Jury of Her Peers and Mama Come Home The issue of dominance and subordinance is addressed in the short stories A Jury of her Peers by Susan Glaspell and Mama Come Home by James Tiptree, Jr. In the stories the subordinates are harmed by the dominants, but the subordinates overcome the suppression to triumph in the end. The groups with the power control the laws and the positions of the weaker group. To begin with, A Jury of her Peers is about the way women in 1917 were treated by men. The men treat the women like they are not able to do the same things as the men. But would the women know a clue if they did come upon it? (Glaspell 266) The women have feminine intuition. A grade I sprain will have pain with minimal damage to the ligaments. A grade II sprain is going to have more ligament damage and mild looseness of the joint. Finally, in a grade III sprain, the ligament is completely torn and the joint is very loose or unstable. A grade III sprain, simply called an ACL tear, is most often a sports related injury. Still, The ACL can be torn in other instances such as during rough play, vehicular collisions, falls, and work related injuries. According to a study performed by Jonathan Cluett, M.D., about 80% of sports related ACL tears are non contact injuries. This means that the injury does not result from any contact with another athlete. A rupture to the ACL is the result of the ligament within the knee being overstretched. • 16. Literary Devices In Edgar Allen Poe s The Raven Self Torture Edgar Allen Poe utilizes various literary devices in order to create a dark tone in his poem, The Raven. Poe s use of alliteration and repetition are instrumental to the melodic nature of the work, as well as providing a rather visual representation of his gothic setting. He also utilizes pathos to evoke a response from the reader through emotions (fear, desire, etc.) In addition, the point of view plays a key role in this poem, but its reliability may be questioned. All of these aspects of the poem combine to show the human need to torture oneself and to try to do anything to find optimism in a time of grief and denial. In reality, this way of coping isn t effective and will just hurt the person more. Alliteration is the repetition of consonant sounds in the beginning of a sentence. Poe uses alliteration to add tension within the poem. From my books surcease of sorrow sorrow for the lost Lenore, (Line 10). He also uses alliteration to add to the creepy, entrancing mood of the poem as seen in the following example, Doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before, (Line 26). The San Joaquin Valley is bounded by mountains on the east, west and south and to the north flow the Kern and San Joaquin rivers into the ocean. The climate in the valley is hot with dry mild summers, semiarid winters and very minimal precipitation. Originally, the area was rich in a network of rivers, streams, lakes and sloughs fed by waters from Sierra Nevada to the east and it is very productive and rich in resources such as food, wood for construction, firewood and manufacturing tools. After these rivers and streams were diverted for agricultural purposes, the valley dried up and became a vast area of farmland. Eighteen states, as well as the District of Columbia, have banned it, the remaining states have not. The government and law enforcements believe the death penalty deters crime rates across America. This has yet to be proven right. In S. E. Cupp s article, The Conservative Case Against the Death Penalty , she says: The country needs to have a clear eyed conversation about the death penalty, one that puts both anecdotal and emotional arguments aside in favor of some serious analysis. In addition, one thing to question is the motive behind capital punishment. The desire for retribution on someone is one of the lowest human emotions. It can be understandable, but not a very coherent response to a critical situation. Raymond A. Schroth says: To kill the person who has killed someone close to you is simply to continue the cycle of violence which ultimately destroys the avenger as well as the offender. This an eye for an eye deal seems to contribute to this cycle of violence. The government and U.S. prosecutors seem to think that killing someone for a criminal act that they have done will send a message to others and make them give a second thought before murdering someone or attempting to do so. Investigating The Optical Performance Of Photonic Crystals abstract Photonic crystal is a composite dielectric with periodic modulation of refractive index that brings about unique photonic band gap effect by which light could be totally reflected on the surface of such material regardless of any incident angle or mode. Such bandgap effect could be understood by investigating the optical performance of photonic crystals. In this paper, photonic bandgap calculations are performed for two dimensional photonic crystals using matlab. Plane wave expansion method is used to solve Maxwell s equations. The effect of lattice constant and refractive index is investigated. Introduction Photonic crystals are special class of optical media with periodic modulation of refractive index by arrangement of dielectric material. They respond to light waves over a desired range of frequencies by perfectly reflecting them or allowing them to propagate only in certain directions or confining them within a specified volume. Photons either propagate through this structure or they don t. Frequencies that propagate are called modes, and groups of allowed modes form bands. Disallowed bands of frequencies are called photonic band gaps. This property of photonic bandgap is utilised to manipulate light propagation. In particular, we can design and construct photonic crystals with photonic band gaps, preventing light from propagating in certain directions with specified frequencies By transmitting signals with ... For many people, women especially, this concept seems unrealistic. In the autobiography Beauty: When the dancer is the self by Alice Walker, she identifies with this perception of life and applies it to the societal views of beauty. Through her autobiography, she sets the stage by explaining her childhood, beginning with her sassy and independent nature as a two and a half year old. Proceeding several years later, she describes her pain from being shot in the eye by her brother and the cover up that altered their relationship. Next came the feelings of diffidence and timidity from the accident, that led to her physical and mental decline. Finally, the acceptance of past events, followed by, the ability to see the world in her eye (Walker 40) enables Walker to value herself and spread the message of self acceptance. Using the pain felt from that shot, both mental and physical, she is able to define a new chapter in her life and become an award winning novelist. By writing to a broad audience, she is able to make a greater impact as she delves into the process of taking pain and despair and transforming it into self celebration. • 29. Essay on Brothers of the Bible Brothers of the Bible The Old Testament sibling rivalries between Cain and Abel, Esau and Jacob, and Joseph and his brothers were similar in some ways and different in others, but they all hold lessons for us today, for brothers today still face many of the same problems in life that challenged brothers thousands of years ago. Cain and Abel were in a situation much more unique than Esau and Jacob, and Joseph and his brothers faced, for the society they lived in was extremely small, and they each had a direct relationship with God. As the book of Genesis tells us, Cain was the first born son of Adam and Eve. Their next son was a boy whom they named Abel. As Cain and Abel grew up both took responsibilities for making a living. Abel ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Cain takes the road of denial rather than hiding from God; even more, he turns the question back to God implying impropriety in God?s question. ?Keeping? is not something human beings do to one another in the Old testament; only God keeps human beings; hence God should know the answer to the question. (Abingdon, 373) Another unique element of the Cain and Abel rivalry and its tragic aftermath is that God personally punished Cain for the murder of Abel, and sent him into exile. But God also showed some mercy to Cain which protected him from harm at the hands of others by putting a mark upon him. The narrator leaves him as one who has been placed under the very special care of God. Hence, the story ought not to be interpreted in basically negative terms, but rather as the activity of one who lives under divine protection and care. (Abingdon, 375) The sibling rivalry between Jacob and Esau didn?t result from envy due to God?s reaction to their sacrifices, but from envy over parental favoritism. In addition to this, the rivalry also involved a number of other factors and began even before they were born. As God explained to Rebekah when the twins were still in her womb, ?the two children inside you will become the fathers of two nations. Just like the two are fighting with each other now, the two nations will struggle with each other. One will be stronger than the other. and the older will serve the younger.? • 30. The First Invention Of Radiology The first invention of radiology began with the creation of X rays in 1895 when Wilhelm Roentgen, a 50 year old professor of physics at Germany s University of Wurzburg, made a discovery that would in a very short time change medical and human history. Though, discovered by accident, Roentgen s discovery would help detect tumors, broken bones and bullets buried within bodies, never before seen with the naked eye. Since the invention of X rays, there had been numerous discoveries of similar inventions, from image intensifier to ultrasound to magnetic resonance imaging. Without these inventions, humans would not have been able to see the inner workings of the body or detect key information in modern times that allow us to prevent serious illnesses where other inventions proved useless since imaging plays a huge role in diagnosis. In current society, radiology s first creation has been exposed to most citizens, whether it is to detect a broken bone at the doctor s or to determine a person s risk of getting cavities at the dentist s. Although, inventions from radiology does hold risks of radiation exposure amongst its patients, the benefits of them greatly outweighs its risks. Before the development and research of radiology, life was simplistic with little knowledge of observing the internal organs of a person. If a patient was shot, doctors had to, literally, poke around their patient s organs with their fingers or use electrical induction machine to send sound waves ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Franco Zefferelli and Baz Luhrmann are the creators of the two most renowned film adaptations of William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet. Zefferelli, the more traditional director, created his Oscar winning version in 1968. Baz Luhrmann put an abstract, modern twist on Shakespeare s classic and created the 1996 version that raised millions of dollars in box office sales. The interaction between them is forbidden, so she turns towards the her room, ready to leave, until she is halted by Romeo s confession. If given the opportunity, he would choose to deny the Montague name so that he may share his life with her. Surprised, Juliet returns to where Romeo awaits her. During this scene, the soft light continually falls upon Juliet s angelic face, yet Romeo predominantly remains in the darkness, shadowed. This may reference the goodness of the Capulets and the supposed evilness of the Montagues from Juliet s standpoint. The camera is also pointed up during this scene when directed towards Juliet, yet pointed down when directed towards Romeo. Zefferelli may have used these camera angles to show that Juliet is considered someone Romeo admires although he is considered a lesser man by the Capulet family. • 32. Fifth Business Identity Quotes In Fifth Business, Robertson Davies attempts to illustrate the quest for self identity through the life of the novel s protagonist, Dunstable Ramsay. During the first pages of this novel, a life changing incident occurs that severely affects the fates of the three main characters: Dunstable Ramsay, Percy Staunton, and Paul Dempster. In the small town of Deptford, Ontario, Percy Staunton, the town s bully, throws a snowball bearing a stone at Dunstable. Being clever boy, Dunstable quickly ducks out of the way and the snowball collides with pregnant Mrs. Dempster s skull. As a result, Mrs. Dempster loses her sanity, goes into early labour, and gives birth to her premature child, Paul Dempster. Although Dunstable was not the one to throw the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Fifth Business is divided into six immense chapters around forty five pages each somewhat representing a key period of Dunstan Ramsay s life: his childhood, the identity change, Mrs. Dempster s sainthood, his friendship with Boy, the development of his self confidence and the unveiling of the snowball incident. Then, each of these megachapters is divided into an average of eight subchapters. This is extremely confusing due to the fact that the subchapters hardly ever relate in their entirety to the main focus of the megachapter. Thus, the book is filled with irrelevant sections that contribute neither to the plot nor to the unveiling of the characters personalities. For example, although the primary focus of chapter three is Dunstan s quest to discover Mrs. Dempster s sainthood, he spends an entire subsection of four pages describing Boy and Leola s wedding. The sole information that I retained from those four pages was that Leola looked like a silver spoon in her dress. Likewise, the use of figurative language contributed to the confusing style of Fifth Business. Throughout the book, Robertson Davies often attempted to foreshadow upcoming events in Dunstan Ramsay s life. However, this use of figurative language did nothing but add confusion to the plot, for it was not very subtle. For example, in the very beginning of the book, Dunstan Ramsay mentions Paul Dempster for the first time: That was how Paul Dempster, whose reputation is doubtless familiar to you (though that was not the name under which he gained it), came to be born early on the morning of December 28 in 1908. (Davies, 5). In this sentence, Robertson Davies had attempted to foreshadow Paul s change of identity; but, only added confusion to the plot, for at this point in the book, the reader does not have enough information about Paul Dempster to fully comprehend the foreshadow. ... Nevertheless, Imperialism is defined as the policy of expanding a country s power and influence through diplomacy or military force. When they arrive on the island though, they are greeted by Mr. and Mrs. Rogers, who are servants for the host; the host is someone with the name Mr. Owen. The group is told that Mr. Owen will not arrive until the next day. That evening that they arrive there is a recording played at dinner that accuses each one of them of committing murder. While discussing this, they come to realize that no one actually knows who Mr. Owen is. While the guests discuss what they do for a living, the first victim of this ongoing crime is taken. Tony Marston chokes on poisoned whiskey which leads to his death. All of the guests come to the agreement that it must be suicide. As all the guests then go to bed, Mr. Rogers goes into the dining room and is puzzled to find that one of Ten Little Indian figurines is missing. Competitive Environment JetBlue has been recognized for offering cheap flights to business travelers, in the same way that other airlines come up with similar offers for different types of travelers. In 2009, (case study) JetBlue was on top of the list of the low cost carriers. The airline is classified as a major carrier, which means their annual revenue starts at $1 billion, JetBlue has a $3 billion revenue, still and all it is mentioned that JetBlue is smaller in comparison to other major airlines. Over the years, one of the main competitors of jetBlue has been Southwest. In a 2009 report it was mentioned that two other low cost airlines, Virgin America and SkyBus, were some of the biggest competitors for jetBlue (case study); however, a 2013 analysis might have suggested in some way that JetBlue was about to have new airlines to compete with, Singapore Airlines and Emirates Airlines, by introducing new features and technological innovation in their offerings (Popova, 2013). Airlines are implementing these improvements in order to attract more customers that look for comfort, but at the same time affordability. It can increase the competitivity, but it is not noticeable immediately. Even though, JetBlue is not directly competing with other international airlines, a comparison and contrast with competitors such as Southwest and Virgin America can be seen in small, but important details such as the baggage allowance. JetBlue has fare options in order to find out the amount of baggages admitted, the first fare is called Blue Flex, and it allows to bring a maximum of two checked bags under 50 pounds at no cost, a third bag would cost $100; the second one, the Blue Plus fare allows only one bag under 50 pounds, a second bag has a cost of $35, and a third bag would cost $100; the third and last fare is called Blue and the first checked bag under 50 pounds has a cost of $25, the second bag $35 and a third or fourth bag would cost $100 (JetBlue, 2017). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One such difference lies in the divergent tones that the poets use in their individual poems. The tone in Musée des Beaux Arts, for example, is that of utter indifference towards the plight of Icarus. Perhaps this is because the event Auden is describing is merely happening in a painting and not actually happening in front of his persona, or perhaps Auden uses such a tone in order to further convey to his audience the lack of interest everyone else displays in regards to Icarus dilemma. An example of the unhurried and apathetic attitude everyone has in Musée des Beaux Arts is clearly shown when Auden writes, While someone else is eating or opening a window or just walking dully along; / How, when the aged are reverently, passionately waiting / for the miraculous birth (lns. 4 6). Auden writes these lines in order to show his readers how everyone is carrying on with their life in the manner that they always do, regardless of what tragedies may befall others. The controversial dictatorship of Gaddafi, his overthrowing in 2011, and the subsequent reign of terror by numerous militant groups that hold Benghazi in their grip to this day have contributed to numerous deaths (Maslin, 2016) and thousands displaced.
