Over the last year, the media has done an excellent job in bringing national exposure
to the culture of police brutality within African American communities. Fortunately,
social media alongside the growing accessibility to smartphones has assisted in
bringing these intentional violations to the forefront of the national debate, creating a
new form of activism, commonly referred to as social media activism ( Policing The
Police and Prosecuting The Clan, n.d.; Pooly, 2011). However, is this new form of
social activism, through social media, producing real, tangible change in the fight
against discrimination and social injustices in America? Historically, the driving force
behind successful social movements is effective organizing. Most attribute the
success of the Civil Rights Movement to the impressionistic images of dramatic
confrontations with police dogs and African Americans people being hosed down
with water in the streets, however, it was rooted in a hybrid of extremely intentional
efforts, which included civil disobedience, grass roots organizing with intense
political mobilization, economic withdrawal, via mass boycotts and sit ins, and
sensational community leaders/activists who are able to evoke intense emotional
connections, galvanizing the black community to act in

Many people have preconceived notions of how a religious service is conducted
and looks like, even if they are not a practitioner or have never attended a service.
With Catholicism, people expect that the services are only held in churches that are
set aside from other institutions. People imagine the attendees in semi formal and
conservative dress. The times of a service are even held to an imaginary guideline.
If a religion breaks from the pattern, people are inclined to believe that the service is
of a lesser quality or may not truly be affiliated with the Catholic Church. The Church
has had to adapt to the situations it has been placed in because of the ever
changing world it resides in. The purpose of this paper is to examine how the ideas
and images of a traditional Catholic Mass change based upon the place Mass occurs,
I am looking specifically at the service at the Interfaith Center located on the
Universityof California Irvine (UCI) campus. The University Catholic Community
(UCC) at UC Irvine is a campus organization that provides church services to the
Catholic community. The Interfaith building is used to hold services for the students
who cannot go elsewhere. There are various youth ministries within the community
that cater to various ethnic groups, though anyone is allowed to join: Vietnamese,
Filipino, Korean, and one that is for anyone. By being focused on catering to the
college studentdemographic, the UCC has had to adapt to the needs of the students

Anglo-Saxon Warrior Culture In Beowulf
Throughout history, rulers have always been protective of their kingdoms. In hopes
of always being in control of their territory, they have developed special relationships
with their subjects to ensure their protection. In Anglo Saxon poetry, the relationship
between the ruler and his thanes is known as comitatus: the idea of fealty,
brotherhood, and community. In the epic Beowulf, the community of thanes centers
around honor, friendship, and respect. The focus of the comitatus is Heorot, the
meadhall built by Hrothgar. These values emerge most clearly in the sharing of
treasure, life in the meadhall, and the importance of lineage to great kings and
warriors.
The giving of gold and treasures after a victory in battle shows the value of
celebration and generosity within the Anglo Saxon warrior culture. After
defeating Grendel, Hrothgar throws a big feast. At this feast, he rewards Beowulf
with tons of treasures, such as, ... a gold standard as a victory gift, /an embroidered
banner; also breast mail / and a helmet; and a sword carried high, / that was both
precious object and token of honor (1020 1023). The defeat of Grendel gives
Beowulf the fame and glory he desired. Now, because he has slain the monster, he is

Comparing Doaism and Mahayana Buddhism
When it comes to comparing Doaism and Mahayana Buddhism very few similarities
exist. Although both religions are practice based, opposed to religions based on faith,
the ultimate goal of each religion are vastly different. In Daoism it is believed that
the spirit is eternal after death while In Mahayana Buddhismwe see that there is an
end to the cycle of life, death, and rebirth. However, there is one similarity in both
that is incredibly important to the practice of both religions. This similarity is the
concept of emptiness. By observing the proper practices of Bodhisatvvas in
Buddhism and the ideal ruler in Daoism we can see how both religions have a very
similar view on the importance of emptiness, and also how they differ. In the Daoist

is very important and can be applied to many aspects of Daoist practice. When

Dispatch advised that Witness Alma Funes described the vehicle as a beige Honda
with a license plate of #4HCX801. Funes told dispatch the driver parked his vehicle
in front of 721 N. Garfield Avenue.
Upon our arrival, Officer Harrell and I were traveling southbound in the 700 block
of N. Garfield Avenue approaching Orange Grove Boulevard. I saw a female
