Essay On Charter Schools
Since the 1980s, charter schools have allowed families to exercise school choice, a practice that had
begun a few decades earlier when parents preferred to control their children s education because of
religious views or racial prejudices. As dissatisfaction with the performance public schools grew
during the late 20th century, parents called on government to subsidize an arrangement where children
could receive adequate education outside of the traditional public school system. Thus, two major
school choice devices emerged: charter schools, privately run schools that receive public funding, and
tuition vouchers, which cover some or all of tuition at participating private schools.
Nevertheless, these options have become controversial establishments for a number of reasons.
Charter schools in particular have been criticized because they are run by independent private
organizations with less regulation than a traditional public schools and therefore, extraordinary
educational opportunities are just as common as extreme cases of operational negligence. An annual
Phi Delta Kappa poll on public schools reported that the nation was split on whether or not charter
schools should have the same required standards as local public schools. Communities with
satisfactory public schools typically said yes, and those with struggling public schools typically said
no. In Atlanta, reports of educational inadequacy, lack of diversity, and financial mismanagement
spurred the city s NAACP

Burma-Thailand Relations and Muslim Immigrants
According to the UN, Rohingya Muslims are one of the most persecuted minorities in the world. Due
to clashes/conflicts between militant Muslims and Buddhists and poor economic conditions within
Burma, many have fled the country, especially Rohingya Muslims primarily situated/centred around
the conflict zones. Neighboring Thailand acts as an idealized sanctuary for the displaced refugees,
though in reality even further abuse and exploitation occurs over the border due to the incompatibility
of these stateless individuals with strict immigration and border policies. These offer neither
protection nor social services for economically and socially disadvantaged migrants (talk about
NGOs?). As a result, underhanded human trafficking and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As labor recruiters and brokers, middlemen provide the supply in response to the profitable demand
for the human trafficking industry through illegal channels involving government corruption,
contributing to the exploitation of migrants. In 1993, human rights group Asia Watch reported the
involvement of Thai officials in the sex trade and their treatment of Burmese girls in Thailand. After
raiding the brothel in which 148 underage Burmese girls were housed, they were rescued then arrested
as illegal immigrants even though the girls claimed to have been forced or tricked into practicing sex.
Subsequently, they were deported back to Burma, where those who tested HIV positive were claimed
to have been shot, although this has yet to be substantiated been cases in which women have been
injected with cyanide for being HIV positive. In February 2014, Thai authorities have been caught, in
February 2014 deporting 1,300 Rohingya Muslims from Thailand, an action which met with concern
by humanitarian agencies to the condition of the Muslims in their home country. These cases illustrate
the involvement of the government with the traffickers responsible for the continued repression and
marginalization of Burmese prostitutes in Thailand.
Due to the high demand, high turnover, and easy access to desperate and economically disadvantaged
Rohingya Muslims,

Strategies For Independence
5 Big Steps Parents Can Take To Help Their Kids Gain More Independence For Preschool From social
skills to language skills and all kinds of problem solving techniques, your little one is in for some big
learning when they enter a preschool program, but they could face challenges if the haven t acquired
enough independence. Although it s your paternal instinct to take care of and control everything in
their developing lives, independence is what s going to help them succeed and excel, once they re on
their own in the classroom. Here are five important steps you can take to encourage more
independence, in the most caring and supportive way: 1. Raise The Bar With Your Expectations

As hard as it is to just stand by and watch your child, whether they re succeeding or not, they need that
space to learn, evolve and experiment, or else they re always going to be looking for you to rescue
them. Entering any preschool program, your child won t have the luxury of constant individual
attention, meaning they will have no choice but to sink or swim. Since you want them to swim, start
giving them room to self resolve issues now, while they still have you as a safety net. Before long,
they ll understand that if they want some problems solved, they have to put on their thinking caps, use
patience and take matters into their own little hands. If it seems hard for you to cease the hoovering,
just wait until you feel the total exhilaration of watching your child accomplish something all on their
own; it s such a breath taking moment for parents, you ll automatically start giving them more room to
act independently in many instances. 3. Assign A Simple Job To Your Child You don t realize how
much your child depends on you for everything, until you ask them to do something on their own.
They might look at you as if you re perfectly out of your mind or they might even cry about the new
task, but being a responsible, working member of a team in your house is going to go a long way
toward helping your child succeed in a busy classroom. Give them a simple job they must tend to
daily, showering them with affection and praise when they accomplish

Interpretation In Ford Madox Ford s The Good Soldier
Within the novel The Good Soldier, by Ford Madox Ford, narration serves as an imperative framing
mechanism for propelling the plot of the story, while also generating the fragmentation necessary for
maintaining the unclarity that pervades John s story. By both subtly positioning the narrator John
Dowell as an outsider relative to the other characters, and consequently emphasizing the notion of
being outside, Ford facilitates a pointillistic representation of the infidelities that characterize his story.
Not only does Ford distance Dowell from the other characters in his narrative, but he also prompts the
reader to reject John as an omnipotent, reliable source, thereby provoking the former to rely on
interpretation as the primary means for finding resolution. Emphasizing several factors that distinguish
John from the other characters, such as his nationality, his inclusion in and knowledge of the
infidelitous relationships, his personality type, his future reflective standpoint, and his tendency to
infuse his current attitudes and nostalgia into his retelling of this story, Ford employs narration as the
essential mechanism for framing the story.
Initially denoting both his position as an outsider, and his efforts to justify the abhorrent, adulterous,
behavior of Edward Ashburnham and Florence, Dowell frames himself as an American who is merely
observing British culture. While establishing himself within his story, Dowell claims that the
adulterous affair is, I believe, a state of things only possible with English people of whom, till today,
when I sit down to puzzle out what I know of this sad affair, I knew nothing whatever, proceeding to
concede that Six months ago [he] had never been to England (Ford, 13). That Ford notes this
distinction on the first page of the narrative forces the reader to immediately consider John as a
relative outsider in the story, a notion that is compounded by the latter s constantly identifying cultural
differences between himself and the Ashburnhams. By conceding that he had not even traveled to
England prior to his experience with the Ashburnhams, Dowell implicitly frames their cultural
differences as responsible for Edward Ashburnham s infidelitous tendencies and Leonora s

Erving Goffman
There are two different concepts of the self. One is from theorist George Mead and the other is from
Erving Goffman. There are similarities and differences between the two concepts. Each theorist views
the function of the self in society. First off, George Mead s self is defined as the ability to take oneself
as an object (Ritzer and Stepnisky, 2013, p. 60).While Erving Goffman s self is defined as a sense of
who one is that is a dramatic effect emerging from the immediate dramaturgical scene being presented
(Ritzer and Stepnisky, 2013, p. 144). This is the first difference between the two. The theorists have
different ways of defining self. In Mead s self, he believed that the self emerged as a child through two
key stages (Ritzer and

Small Businesses Are Essential For The Fabric Of The...
Small businesses are essential to the fabric of the American economy. Specifically the franchise model
offers an easy way for an entrepreneur to attain success in the increasingly difficult and murky
economical landscape. The U.S. Census Bureau estimates that over 13% of the total American
workforce is compromised of franchisee employees. That equates to roughly 7.9 million workers. And
while many have found unbound success within the realms of franchising, there are risks specific to
undertaking such an expenditure.
Aside from a high failure rate amount some franchises, the threat of litigation, like the threat that faces
most business owners is a sizeable one. In August of 2015, the National Labor Relations Board
released it s long awaited decision regarding joint employement in connecting to the Browning Ferris
Industries of Pennsylvania, Inc. issue. In an unprecedented move, one that overturned their previous
decisions and threatens to upend the basis of franchisor/fanchisee relationships the board decided that
in order to find that two or more entities are joint employers of a single workforce they must (1) both
be employers within the meaning of the common law; and (2) they must share or codetermine those
matters governing the essential terms and conditions of employment. In evaluating whether an
employer possesses sufficient control over employees to qualify as a joint employer, the Board will
among other factors consider whether an employer has exercised

The Absurdity in Waiting for Godot Essay
In Waiting for Godot, Beckett often focused on the idea of the suffering of being. Most of the play
deals with the fact that Estragon and Vladimir are waiting for something to relieve them from their
boredom. Godot can be understood as one of the many things in life that people wait for. Waiting for
Godot is part of the Theater of the Absurd . This implies that it is meant to be irrational and
meaningless. Absurd theater does not have the concepts of drama, chronological plot, logical
language, themes, and recognizable settings. There is also a split between the intellect and the body
within the work. Vladimir represents the intellect and Estragon the body, both cannot exist without the
other. In the beginning we are thrown into the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

It makes an interesting point since neither of them aren t saying anything new, it s like having a
conversation with a parrot who only knows a few words, so he continuously repets the same words
over and over even though the dialogue changes slightly, they are still saying the same thing. When
Estragon and Vladamir continuously repeat their actions day after day and unable to go about life as
they please, Estragon finally asks:
ESTRAGON:(chews, swallows). I m asking you if we re tied.
VLADIMIR:Tied?
ESTRAGON:Ti ed.
VLADIMIR:How do you mean tied?
ESTRAGON:Down.
VLADIMIR:But to whom? By whom?
ESTRAGON:To your man.
VLADIMIR:To Godot? Tied to Godot! What an idea! No question of it. (Pause.) For the moment.
ESTRAGON:His name is Godot?
VLADIMIR:I think so.
Since they are tied to Godot they cannot leave the scene like Estragon wants to do throughout the
whole play. Even if they could go it is doubtful that they will since both scenes end the same way:
VLADIMIR:We can still part, if you think it would be better.

The Consequences Of Emotions
Just like mortals, Gods feels emotions as well but they usually do not express them as much as mortals
do. They can feel anger, sadness, fear, happiness and love. However they do not express their
emotions, for it is seen as a weakness. Many Gods say that is is complicated, and they never want to
answer the questions of the younger gods. This lead to many of the younger ones misunderstanding
why they see emotions as a weakness. They did not know that these emotions may have horrible
consequences. For example, the young moon goddess Amaris made a terrible mistake when she
showed emotions for a beast. Divyesh, the god of the sun, cared deeply for his younger sister. He
worried that one day her emotions would lead to her death. He would ... Show more content on

Eventually they began to grow feeling for each other, bringing gifts to show their affection. Some of
the gifts would be them teaching each other things they knew. Others were things like flowers and
gold. Their love was a secret of course, for it was shunned upon to fall in love with someone not of
your species. One day, the young goddess fell ill, which shocked many of the gods. Divyesh wanted to
help his sister, but she wouldn t allow him near her. She became secretive and would never be around
other gods, even her own brother. This worried Divyesh even more, for he couldn t lose his only sister.
He went to check on his sister, but found that she was nowhere to be seen. He searched for her on the
mountain. He heard voices, one recognizable and the other, unfamiliar. He went to investigate, but
what he found angered him greatly, for his sister was not actually sick, she was pregnant with the child
of Isolde. In his fit of anger, he summoned his sword, which was engulfed in flame. He then attacked
Isolde, leaving his sister alone in great pain and to give birth alone. WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO
MY SISTER? Divyesh exclaimed as he swung his sword at Isolde, who backed away. As Divyesh
went for another hit, it was quickly stopped by the hand of Isolde. Divyesh looked up to see that Isolde
was now a huge creature that towered the trees. It had a mouth that looked like a mouth of a whale. I

providers of food source and living as well as the fact that they are among the most biologically
diverse regions on Earth. The actual coral itself is known to be extremely ancient that evolved into
reef building forms over the last 25 years (Donner). There are two types of coral, one is hard coral,
which is the major reef building species and then there is soft coral, which are sea fans and sea whips.
The reefs are classified into three types: barrier reefs, fringing reefs, and atolls. They create
specialized habitats that provide shelter, food and breeding sites for numerous plants and animals.
Zooxan thellae is the algae found on coral reefs and the small organisms live together, which is one

The Use Of Propaganda And Its Effects On The World War
World War II was first initiated in 1939. Although most of the war was fought on the European
theatre, the war reached the Homefront of the United States. With World War II being one of the most
grueling wars the world has experienced with events such as the holocaust, it will take the effort of an
entire nation to help bring the war to a victorious end. Propaganda was a major tool to help engage
citizens in aiding with the war efforts. Without the use of war time propaganda, the war would most
likely have a completely different outcome. The definition of propaganda is the use of mass media to
call an audience to action (Smith 1). That is exactly what nations like the United States and Britain
used to educate their citizens on what was going on with the war. The use of propaganda in these
nations had a major impact on the war. These nations used media types such as radio, posters, leaflets,
comic books, books, movies, magazines, and newspapers to inform/educate the public on the war.
These media outlets helped bring attention to the war and motivate citizens to act. Some common
actions citizens performed to aid in the war efforts include the investment in war time bonds, women
taking men s jobs while they are in the war, and joining the military to help fight. Propaganda is used
worldwide, however, the use of propaganda varies from nation to nation. The United States and
Britain both used propaganda as a tool to inform their citizens. Although these nations share some

The Experience Of Enslavement To Africans And Europeans
Experience of Enslavement to Africans and Europeans
Enslavement was a one of the horrors that the Africans endured to help them survive in a foreign area.
The Africans did not have a choice becoming a slave thus acting like a piece of property for the people
that would ensure that they would incriminate the people. Enslavement was a challenge to the black
people that made it difficult for them to lead their normal lives because they were rooted from their
families and dumped in a new country where they had to oblige to the commands of their owner.
According to Equiano, the Africans had to cross the Atlantic Ocean under the boats where they had
confinements like animals unfit for human survival (1789) . Numerous of them died on the way from
diseases, hunger among other reasons and they would dump them into the sea leaving them there as
food for the fishes which is inhumane. Slavery was difficult because it was not a voluntary act thus
denying people the choice to make their independent decisions.
Enslavement led to separation of the Africans from their families back at home and even the families
that they started while in the United States. Some of the slaves had their families in the United States
and they did not preside over their care because their owners could take their sons to work as butlers
while the girls in the kitchen or act as concubines to the owners. In some cases, some of the children
would be sold to other parts at a good price without consideration their

America s Postwar Role
During the war, many visions of America s postwar role began to emerge. One of the key roles that
began to emerge was the idea of equality for all. Americans established that Americanism rested on
toleration of diversity and equality for all, while the enemy s philosophy was racism. So, by the end of
the war the new immigrant groups had been fully accepted as loyal ethnic Americans, rather than
distinct and inferior races. Another idea of America s postwar role, was brought to light in 1944 when
the president called for an Economic Bill of Rights. Franklin D. Roosevelt proposed to expand the
government s power in order to secure full employment, an adequate income, medical care, and a
decent home for all Americans. Already ill and preoccupied

Essay on Antigone is a Tragic Hero
Antigone is a Tragic Hero A subject of debate in Sophocles play Antigone is which character complies
with the characteristics of a tragic hero. The qualities that constitute a tragic hero are, in no particular
order, having a high social position, not being overly good or bad, isolation, being tenacious in their
actions, arousing pity in the audience, a revelatory manifestation, and having a single flaw that brings
about their own demise and the demise of others around them. Creon possesses some of these qualities
but, does not completely fulfill them all. Antigone does, however, conform to the persona of a tragic
hero.
The first qualifying aspect is that Antigone has a high social position. She is the daughter of Jocasta

The act of burying her brother was a form of isolation. No one else dared to go against Creon s law
that forbade the burial of Polyneices. Antigone went against the law and mourned her brother.
A tragic hero possesses a flaw that leads to their demise and the demise of others. Antigone never
attempted to speak to Creon about the possibility of a burial for her brother. She broke the law. Ismene
offered to take part in the blame but, Antigone was set against it. Refusing to let Creon get his way she
took her own life. Had she waited a little longer she would have been released and her brother would
have been given the proper respect. Antigone, being rash and quick to act, hung herself. Her flaw led
to the death of her future husband and his mother (Eurydice). Haemon was enraged by his fathers
actions against his bride to be and, his failed attempt to murder Creon was followed by his own
suicide. Haemon s mother heard of what her son had done and, took her own life. Though Haemon
and Eurydice committed suicide it was Antigone s actions that led to their self annihilation.
Creon is not tenacious in nature. He wavers on the burial of Polyneices throughout the play. He is
stubborn against the burial but, changes his mind later on. A tragic hero would stick to their beliefs
without teetering back and forth. Antigone stays with her story and beliefs. Even so, the god of Death
demands these rites (Lines 517 518). She feels as though she had done

America, The Land Of Opportunity
Henry Schineller
Carlucci
American Literature
21 May, 2016
Rough Draft America, the land of opportunity. A majestic land where barriers are broken and dreams
are made into reality. A land where anything is possible with a little hard work and determination. One
may ask what makes a place this possible. The answer to that question is the people. Americans have a
certain way about them that makes them different from any other people on earth. All Americans are
heroes in some way, but a select few stand out in history as the most influential. One such individual is
Jackie Robinson. Robinson redefined racial stereotypes by becoming the first African American
baseball player to play in the Major League. Through his courage, determination, and perseverance,
his legacy still continues to this date. One could argue numerous reasons that constitute Jackie
Robinson as an American hero, but four stand out among the rest. Those reasons being that he fought
for what he believed was right, overcame adversity, conquered many athletic feats, and had a lasting
legacy. For these reasons Jackie Robinson truly embodies an American hero. The definition of a hero
is: a person who is admired for great or brave acts or fine qualities (Merriam Webster). An American
hero is someone who, yes follows this definition, but completes it in a way that furthers America as a
nation. A true American hero leaves a lasting impression that will be remembered for generations to
come. An American hero must

Comparing Augustine And Boethius In The City Of Ravenna
By the early fourth century, the Roman Empire already had severe economic, political, and social
problems. While Rome declined decades into the fifth centuries, Christianity flourished. It continued
to grow and expand in influence, and would eventually become the religion of those who destroyed
the empire in the West. During that period, in far different places, two writers would live who saw the
decline of the West: Augustine (354 420) in Roman North Africa and Boethius in the city of Ravenna.
Their writings were to have an enormous impact on the culture of Europe. Augustine was one of the
four important Latin fathers of the church, who were also philosophers and theologians and known as
doctors of the church. There is a concept that Augustine introduces and believes in and it si that God

Augustine warns against taking the Bible lieterally if it flies in the face of reason and observation. He
understood why the Bible was written as it was. He rationalized that while the authors knew the truth
about the nature of the skies, but it was not the intention of the Spirit of God, who spoke through
them, to teach men anything that would not be of use to them for their salvation. It must be realized
that the bible was written by humans, and not necessarily a direct quote from God. Boethius similarly
discusses about something that does not necessarily directly relate but does support and explain how
to understand Augustine s words. He asks how one can reconcile human freedom with the notion of an
all knowing God. If God knows what we do before we do it, how can we be said to be free agents who
must accept responsibility for personal acts? The answer is to look at the problem form the point of
view of God, not from the human vantage point. God lives in eternity. Eternity does not mean

Six Basic Principles Of Punishment
Punishment on Trial: Six Basic Principles of Punishment
Irvin Arias
National University Punishment on Trial: Six Basic Principles of Punishment This paper explores six
basic principles of effective punishment in which are most relevant for consideration when using
procedures that may function as punishment to change any child s given behavior and if these factors
influence whether a given contingency functions as a Punisher.
There Must Exist A Behavioral Contingency
Behavioral contingency is the heart of outcome oriented punishment. Defined as, a behavioral
contingency is a reliable and temporal relationship between a specific behavior and a consequence.
(Cipani. 2004) A brief example of a behavioral contingency would be: If you don t do ... Show more

When trying to eliminate a behavior by using punishment, the punishing consequence should always
be specific so the correct treatment is administered. Always be specific and delineate the consequence
before initiating the strategy. For example: if you don t wash the dishes correctly, you have to wash
them 10 more times. The basic principles of punishment were proven to work because they were used
for research many years ago on human beings and also animals in which have driven application and
theory. Punishment is more apparent if reinforcement maintaining the problem behavior can be

Essay On Pro Life
Abortion is one the most controversial topics in the United States. The issue at hand is should abortion
be legal or not. It is highly debated with in both media and politics. According to History Channel,
Supreme Court legalizes abortion , in 1973 the U.S. Supreme Court Case Roe V. Wade ruled that
women have the constitutional right to privacy, thus legalizing abortion. This law gave women the
right to terminate a pregnancy during the first two trimesters. This sparked huge controversy between
pro life and pro choice believers. Both pro life and pro choice have numerous arguments to justify
their opinions. In a report done by WebMD, Abortion Reasons Women Choose Abortion, nine out of
ten abortions are performed within the first twelve weeks. Abortion should be legal because it is a
women s constitutional right, mental and physical health, and other. Women have the right to choose

women have rights just like men do. We are surrounded by rights. We all must make choices in our
lives based on what we believe is safe and best for ourselves at that time. Thus, women have that right

abortion considered murder. According to editor Michelle Ye Hee Lee, The Washington Post, Setting

Witchcraft Violence Against Women
Besides continuing a history of physical violence against women to enforce gender expectations,
witchcraft accusations also present men with opportunities for economic advancement through
property acquisition. Unlike the spontaneity of witch huntings in response to ailments and misfortune,
witchcraft accusations against widows are carefully calculated attacks with the intent of stripping
women of land claims granted to them. Along with a general ideological, religious, and political attack
on women, there was also a specific attack on women s land rights and the strengthening of men s
domination over land (Kelkar, Nathan, Satija, 2013, p. 61). Although women do have limited land
rights as unmarried daughters, wives, and widows in these

leaves symbolize luck. Many people believe that their are leprechauns that have pots of gold. If you
catch a leprechaun it can ether give you their pot of gold or give you 3 wishes. On Saint Patrick s Day
people aren t supposed to wear orange. You aren t supposed to wear orange because it symbolizes

Summary Of The Roaring Inside Her
Women and Nature, The roaring inside her , by Susan Griffin, is a nonfiction feminist literature. Susan
Griffin, describes her work by linking together the destruction of nature, the subside of women and
racism, and the power of men towards women and nature.
In the book, Susan Griffin, compares women and earth to man. She sheds light on feminism, female
oppression, destruction of nature, and lastly the inequality that exist between men and women. The
principal focus of the book is to show the connection between women and nature, and the disparities
between men and nature. After years of conducting research she concludes that women and men
inequality, science, language, and tradition have shape men masculinity as the ultimate power,
drawing a line between man and nature.
The first chapter is called Matter, and in this chapter she compares the bodies and agency of women to
being small , weak , and a form of property. She explains that the universe is always subject to change
and that there is always a cause and effect: similar to women; body changes, such as, breast, vulva,
hair, and womb. In part two of the book she presents the notion of territory. She illustrates that men
are able to be free and women give up their secrets and men are the first to know. Then she speaks
about how women are expected to be loyal and patriarchy even though men screw them over at the
end, which is the same action that men do to the earth with possession, use and exploration.
As explained previously, Griffin, states that women are looked upon as to caring, weak, sensitive,
smart less, and not strong enough. She uses a unique context to express the separation of men and
nature. She stated,
He says that woman speaks with nature. That she hears voices from under the earth. That wind blows
in her ears and trees whisper to her. That the dead sing through her mouth and the cries of infants are
clear to her. But for him this dialogue is over. He says he is not part of this world, that he was set on
this world as a stranger. He sets himself apart from woman and nature. (Griffin,2000, p.67. Preface)
Precisely for Griffin this impression of masculinity has driven men to perceive of themselves as
powerful and superior. In the

Music Industry And Its Influence On Modern Society
In the twenty first century, we have an abundant variety of music genres, old and new. Music has a
versatile role in modern society. Music serves just as many purposes as it possesses in genres. For
listeners, music is not simply an escape or form of entertainment; it is a source of inspiration and self
expression. Sometimes, this can be problematic and lead to false identities and music miscegenation.
The music industry has had a powerful influence on what listeners consume. In this process,
traditional black music genres have crossed over to the mainstream. This has been problematic in that
it gives listeners the sense that the music industry is fully integrated. In reality, the white dominated
music industry and labels are still using ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This forged an identity of cultural togetherness as time progressed, but in reality, this was just a new
form of cultural appropriation and subjugation. Despite the musical politics in regards to control,
black expression has voiced itself in the past century. The innovations of jazz and gospel music paved
the way for soul, funk, disco, and rhythm blues and then expanded that pathway for rap and hip hop in
the later half of the century. Various innovations such as 12 bar blues and beat matching can be
attributed to African American culture. One genre of music that emerged from African American roots
was disco. Although disco expanded and became popularized in mainstream culture, disco began as an
expression of black and Latino power. Disco possesses elements of Afro Cuban salsa as well as
Jamaican dub, reggae, and ska. Disco served as a versatile cultural tool for not only ethnic minorities
but also gay rights activism, prior to its adoption by white audiences and artists. There was backlash
by white audiences and rock musicians towards black disco artist heard on the radio and this lead to
the coined phrase, disco sucks. Disco went on to die by the eve of the eighties, but elements of groove
and fast paced beats are still prevalent in today s popular music. Many of the R B and rock artists who
conformed to disco during its popularity returned to their authentic identity

Title
Which is the more plausible theory of perception Direct Realism or Indirect Realism?
Introduction
In this essay I will consider two common theories that attempt to account for the problem of
perception, namely Direct, and Indirect realism. I will outline several arguments against direct realism
and show how the theory of indirect realism more plausably accounts for the problem of perception.
Objections to the arguments against direct realism will be considered and possible counterarguments
given. This paper will consider two theories of perception that attempt to account for this problem,
namely Direct and Indirect realism, and argue against direct realism in favour of indirect realism,
leading to the conclusion that indirect realism is the more plausable of the two.
Background
The nature of perception, such as sight, touch, and smell appears intuitively straightforward; direct and
immediate access to a mind independent world (naive realism). We feel as if we looking through our
eyes, as if they are open windows to an external world, and when we feel the texture of objects
through haptic (touch) perception, it feels as if we are directly touching the external surface of a mind
independent objecting. Sitting on a couch it intuitively feels as if one is looking at an object which
exists independent of ones visual perception (e.g. the couch continues to look green and have a soft
texture even if one leaves the room). The problem of perception arises from the existence

Question: Examine the advantages and disadvantages for China of harmonization of accounting
standards under the current economic and social system. With the development of economic
globalization and capital markets, accounting standards based on a national system cannot satisfy the
needs of users whose decisions are increasingly international. Therefore harmonization of accounting
standards has become an inevitable choice for many countries. The Chinese government has
introduced four sets of accounting standards and efforts continue to be made to bring its domestic
accounting standards in line with international accounting standards, as a result of which numerous

A large amount of material, money and human resources have to be devoted in the process of
institutional change and adaptation. For example, according to China Accounting Standards
Committee (n.d.), in March 2003, the Committee hired 160 consultants in order to assist its
institutional change. Given that there are about 12 million accountants in China (Ren 2009), if each
one spends at least ¥1 on the retraining to adapt to the harmonizing accounting standards, the total
amount of training costs would be ¥12 million. Though some costs of institutional change and
adaptation can be reflected by figures, most of these costs are behind the scenes, so cannot be
calculated. Adapting harmonizing accounting standards is neither an easy nor a rapid procedure. For
instance, during the adaptation period, accountants would make some mistakes or spend a long time
learning those accounting standards, which cannot be measured and would influence performance of
harmonization of accounting standards. Tang (2000) claims that some managers even felt that the cost
of preparation and audit overweighed its advantages in the initial stage of implementation. The second
potential disadvantage of harmonization of accounting standards is chaotic management for
enterprises in China. As China is in a transitional period from a centrally planned economy to a market
economy, economic system has an impact on accounting and accordingly

Heteronormativity Definition Essay
This essay focuses on how Maretelle Ludik s Spring/Summer 2016 collection and how it relates to
how heteronormativity is viewed in modern society. Firstly I will define what is meant by
heteronormativity and provide the difference between sex and gender. Secondly I will give an
overview of one of the readers discussed in class and an external reader, furthermore I will discuss
how heteronormativity and gender has evolved over the years. Thereafter I will dissect Martelle Ludik
s Spring/Summer 2016 collection and show how it relates to heteronormativity and gender. Lastly I
will provide a conclusion that will summarise my argument.
Heteronormativity is the view that all human beings are either male or female, both in sex and in
gender, and that sexual and romantic thoughts and relations are normal only when between people of
different sexes (Wordnik.com, 2016). Gender and Sex are not the same things. Sex is the state of being
female or male, whereas gender is the state of being masculine of feminine. Sex ... Show more content

Entwistle begins by discussing how clothes play a huge role in distinguishing whether someone is
male or female. Furthermore, she states that sex and gender do not mean the same things. Thus when
we meet someone for the first time we think we see their sex but in fact we do not. What we see is
their gender appearance and we assume that this is an accurate indication of their sex (Entwistle J.
2000:141). In addition, Entwistle speaks about how clothing is far more than simply garments that
cover one s body. Clothes draw attention to the sex of the wearer so that one can tell, usually at first
glance whether they are a male or female. Clothing in this case is the main signifier of difference,
serving to connote femininity and masculinity. Clothing also compels our actions, influencing how we

The Three Levels of Obedience to Maria Montessori
The Three Levels of Obedience
Julia B. Kulakowski
Montessori Institute of San Diego
The three levels of obedience are explained by Dr. Maria Montessori after long observations of
children of multiple ages in her classroom. She defines the three of obedience as first, an ability to
obey, but not all the time. Secondly an ability to obey at all times after developing their own will.
Finally being able to obey consistently, moreover to follow another person which the child has
deemed superior to them self. Obedience is commonly defined as acting in accordance with the will of
another person. She determined that children have an inherent force within them, termed Horme: a
vital internal impulse to act upon ones ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Further still is the third level of obedience in which the child not only obeys with consistency, but also
finds in another person (typically an adult) superiority and follows, unfaltering, the other persons will.
The child has reached total control over their own will and trusts the adult implicitly. Dr. Montessori
has explained with examples of the Silence Game as a means of measuring this final level obedience.
In her explanation she explores how not only do the children obey the signal given for the game
(writing Silence on the blackboard), but know before the teacher has even completed writing the S
what is coming and immediately go silent. It only takes one child s first movement to stop what they
are doing and the rest of the class almost instantaneously quiets. She also explains how it involves the
cooperation of the entire group. Without collectively becoming silent the game is not won. This
development takes practice on the part of the child and discipline in restraining oneself on the part of
the Guide. The trust created during this development creates a different form of responsibility. In this
level of obedience the responsibility of the Guide is exponentially increased as her first movement is
not only witnessed, but implicitly obeyed. This responsibility must be felt and respected by the Guide.
For (Montessori, 1995) she must be cautious not to exploit for her own ends so selfless a dedication

Abstract In this study a new noise source is proposed as a one of renewable energy sources in energy
harvesting. Disk Jokey (DJ) is a common device in celebrations and other events. Converting the
produced noise from DJ to electric energy by using a suitable piezoelectric transducer is the main aim
of this study. Piezoelectric sensors used to convert the sound waves to electric charges. Piezoelectric
sensor of the model 7BB 41 2 was used. The piezoelectric sensors were connected in series, parallel,
and series with parallel combination connections. The disk jockey was used as an acoustic noise
source. The sound intensity levels of the output sound were 81, 84, 87 dB. The output of the three
connection modes were measured at 0, 1,2,3,4, and 5cm distance. The results showed that the parallel
connection gave the highest power at the various distances. The maximum generated power was
4.96mwatts without using an external power supply for the signal condition device. The power
decreases by increasing the distance from the source of the noise.

The Character of Iago in William Shakespeare Essay
The Character of Iago in William Shakespeare In the extract Iago truly shows himself to be a man of
great impression upon people around him, and mostly of course people of his choice, in this case
Roderigo being his victim of persuasion.
Most importantly to be regarded is that Iago s methods are structured almost completely behind the
way in which he communicates, and put across his intentions, than that of the information involved.
He tactfully manages to hold a complete metaphor throughout the whole of his up building and
underlying manipulative conversation with Roderigo. This is, indeed intelligent ... Show more content

in his second speech of the extract. By showing Othello s inevitable disastrous situation and aliening it
with what Roderigo should be doing in the mean time, to make him self appear as a champion person,
a victory if wooed, Fill thy purse with money.
This simple structure Iago puts into practice would appear as of great success. This will be explored

Analysis Of The Wretched Of The Earth By Frrantz Fanon
Frantz Fanon once said in The Wretched of the Earth, The colonized underdeveloped man is a political
creature in the most global sense of the term. Frantz Fanon was born in 1925 in Martinique, a French
colony in the Caribbean Sea. He was descended from African slaves who had previously been brought
to the island. Fanon left Martinique at the age of 18 and fought for France in the last years of World
War II. It was during the war that he experienced extensive racism from his white European peers.
This would continue to influence his worldview for the rest of his short life. Fanon s critical work has
established him as an outstanding theoretician of a wide range of issues, such as identity, nationalism,
black consciousness, the role of violence in the struggle for decolonization, and language as an index
of power. His body of work has been influential in fields like philosophy, politics, psychiatry, cultural
studies, and gender studies, as well. Black Skin, White Masks (written in 1952) and The Wretched of
the Earth (written in 1961) two books that state Fanon santi colonial revolutionary thoughts made him
an important contributor in the field of postcolonial studies. He is a controversial image in the field of
post colonialism despite his contributions in a wide range of fields of study he has been intensively
criticized for his abstract generalizations and his absolutism. Fanon s experience and the general

Chamber And Choir Music Analysis
What are the most obvious themes in Chamber and Choir music? The concert I went to was a concert
by the students from CGCC. They started of the concert with Jazz music, but I was unable to take
notes on that because they were not exactly singing. It was more like an a capella except without any
words. The next portion of the concert was Chamber Singers. I was not very sure what a Chamber
Singer was so I looked it up. Before I looked it up, it seemed to me like it was a medium sized choir
who quickly switch tempo and feature different solos. When I looked it up, it said that Chamber
Singer was a group of 8 40 singers who sing religious or classical songs. The second part was like the
choir my class does, except more complicated and more professional. I noticed that, although it was
two different types of singing, they all had one thing in common, which was that they all had some
kind of form to send emotion to the audience to make them feel a certain mood. The pacing of the
song along with the diverse sections gives out emotion. The two emotions that where most obvious in
all songs where the common emotions of sadness and happiness. The first and third song I listened to
where both from the Chamber Singers and they both gave a happy cheerful mood. The first one was
Achieved is The Glorious Work by Joseph Haydn and the third one was No Time by Susan Brumfield.

A Lie Is What Kept Me Free
A Lie Is What Kept Me Free
Lies often overcomplicate situations by causing a person to have to continually tell more lies to cover
up the original, when he or she could have just told the truth in the beginning. However, the problem
is that the other option is not always so great either. The truth is perfectly honest, and that can cause
one to get in trouble. I believe the main reason why we, as humans, lie is to protect ourselves and to
protect the things for which we have much affection. Once, I had told a lie to keep myself from getting
into more trouble than telling the truth would gotten me. This lie protected from losing what was the
most important thing I had at the time, my freedom. This is the story of the time I lied to protect my
freedom. To understand why I lied, it is primarily important to understand why I believe my freedom
was at risk. I grew up in a sheltered environment in the sense that for a long time I was sheltered from
much of the outside world and sheltered from making my own decision. For example, my parents
believed that I wasn t ready to sleep over a friend s house, whose parents they had known for five
years, until I was in high school. Due to this upbringing, I felt a severe lack of personal freedom when
I entered high school. I believed that I would get more freedom when I turned sixteen and would be

This is a story about how a Maori girl Kahu Paikea will eventually overcome the obstacles of tradition
and reality. From the film you can see this old tribe is still has serious patriarchal consciousness, the
rules have always been used to break, the life needs self master. The girl did not give up the goal, she
used her actions inherited the chief s miracle. Legend is often inspirational, because with spiritual
power, or implied some kind of mystery. If some kind of legend with its inherent rationality, will
produce a good story. The Whale Rider is such a good film, the open sea, the distant shout, an island
Maori, their ancestors are riding a whale come. Certainly, an ancient village has a traditional parents,
the system must have an elderly management of the entire village. Inheritance and development into a
mission. Opposition and friction is the new era of continuous progress and replacement. In the
traditional literary and artistic works, the clear contradiction is the prerequisite for the achievement of
good works. In Whale Rider , Caro is to seize this contradiction, thus creating a legendary classic.

Difference Between Tocqueville And Marx
Tocqueville and Marx both argue for an egalitarian modern society, but their idea of equality of
modern social order differs, which leads to two distinctive conclusions, democracy for former and
communism for latter, which is adopted by different nations in the world. Both social theorists place
high importance in analysing the history of society to determine modern social order, but have
differing conceptions of history that leads to their contrasting views on the fundamental nature of the
capitalist society, and their distinct predictions for the future. This essay will examine Tocqueville s
and Marx s conceptions of history and through it, understand the nature of capitalist society, and
comprehend their predictions for an ideal modern state. Using their analysis, I shall argue that Marx s
prediction of the future is more compelling as compared to Tocqueville. Marx begins his analysis of
social order with the historical development of materialism that results in the industrial capitalist
society. For him, the history of society depends on the understanding of real process of ... Show more

Tocqueville further argues that unlike aristocracy (that) links everybody, from peasant to king, in one
long chain. Democracy breaks the chain and frees each link...men have gained or kept enough wealth
and enough understanding to look after their own needs. Such folk owe no man anything and hardly
expect anything from anybody (Tocqueville, 2006, p. 508). The chain that exists in aristocracy no
longer exists in democracy for individuals earn their own keep and does not need to rely on others.
Thus, with democracy, individuals in capitalist society are independent and equal in social and

The Unraveling Of Mercy Louis Summary
Textual Analysis #3: The Unraveling of Mercy Louis The Unraveling of Mercy Louis, which was
written in 2015, can be considered modern, even though it takes place in 1999. Maw Maw, who was
Mercy s grandmother, was very strict towards Mercy, and raised her as a religious girl. She refused to
let Mercy read letters from her mom, Charmaine, because she considered her a slut and did not want
Mercy to turn out the same way. This sparked curiosity in Mercy, and even though Maw Maw was so
stringent, Mercy continually drifted away from Maw Maw and from religion in general because of the
people she interacted with throughout the course of the story. One example of this is how Mercy was
good friends with Annie. Even though this friendship started at a young age, Maw Maw was never
pleased with it. She believed that Annie was a bad influence on her, due to all of the things that she
did, such as not caring about religion and constantly doing things that were prohibited by her religion.
As Mercy and Annie got older, Mercy made the friendship secretive and never informed Maw Maw
when she was going to see Annie. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Maw Maw had always strictly told her to never go out with boys unless she was of age and was
willing to marry them, which Mercy was clearly not. Because of this, Mercy was afraid to tell Maw
Maw about the relationship she had, since she knew that it was forbidden. Travis also influenced
Mercy to do things that Maw Maw explicitly prohibited, such as drinking beer and dancing in clubs.
As a result, when Maw Maw found out that Mercy had been out drinking beer, she became furious.
For these reasons, Mercy did not like Maw Maw s attitude towards how she should live her life, so she
decided to drift away from her and her

10 Case Study Analysis Example
10 Case Study Analysis
Generally, there are four strategic approaches for case study analysis as identified by (Yin, 2014),
namely, theoretical proposition reliance, ground up data strategy, descriptive and plausible rival
explanation. Theoretical proposition strategy conforms to the idea of data been analysed based on the
theoretical position of the research and study objectives (Gray, 2014; Yin, 2014). On the other hand,
different analytical methods can be combine with analytical strategies in qualitative studies analysis
such as pattern matching, time series analysis and thematically analysis (Braun Clarke, 2006; Yin,

  • 2. Essay On Charter Schools Since the 1980s, charter schools have allowed families to exercise school choice, a practice that had begun a few decades earlier when parents preferred to control their children s education because of religious views or racial prejudices. As dissatisfaction with the performance public schools grew during the late 20th century, parents called on government to subsidize an arrangement where children could receive adequate education outside of the traditional public school system. Thus, two major school choice devices emerged: charter schools, privately run schools that receive public funding, and tuition vouchers, which cover some or all of tuition at participating private schools. Nevertheless, these options have become controversial establishments for a number of reasons. Charter schools in particular have been criticized because they are run by independent private organizations with less regulation than a traditional public schools and therefore, extraordinary educational opportunities are just as common as extreme cases of operational negligence. An annual Phi Delta Kappa poll on public schools reported that the nation was split on whether or not charter schools should have the same required standards as local public schools. Communities with satisfactory public schools typically said yes, and those with struggling public schools typically said no. In Atlanta, reports of educational inadequacy, lack of diversity, and financial mismanagement spurred the city s NAACP ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Due to clashes/conflicts between militant Muslims and Buddhists and poor economic conditions within Burma, many have fled the country, especially Rohingya Muslims primarily situated/centred around the conflict zones. Neighboring Thailand acts as an idealized sanctuary for the displaced refugees, though in reality even further abuse and exploitation occurs over the border due to the incompatibility of these stateless individuals with strict immigration and border policies. These offer neither protection nor social services for economically and socially disadvantaged migrants (talk about NGOs?). As a result, underhanded human trafficking and ... As labor recruiters and brokers, middlemen provide the supply in response to the profitable demand for the human trafficking industry through illegal channels involving government corruption, contributing to the exploitation of migrants. In 1993, human rights group Asia Watch reported the involvement of Thai officials in the sex trade and their treatment of Burmese girls in Thailand. After raiding the brothel in which 148 underage Burmese girls were housed, they were rescued then arrested as illegal immigrants even though the girls claimed to have been forced or tricked into practicing sex. Subsequently, they were deported back to Burma, where those who tested HIV positive were claimed to have been shot, although this has yet to be substantiated been cases in which women have been injected with cyanide for being HIV positive. In February 2014, Thai authorities have been caught, in February 2014 deporting 1,300 Rohingya Muslims from Thailand, an action which met with concern by humanitarian agencies to the condition of the Muslims in their home country. These cases illustrate the involvement of the government with the traffickers responsible for the continued repression and marginalization of Burmese prostitutes in Thailand. Strategies For Independence 5 Big Steps Parents Can Take To Help Their Kids Gain More Independence For Preschool From social skills to language skills and all kinds of problem solving techniques, your little one is in for some big learning when they enter a preschool program, but they could face challenges if the haven t acquired enough independence. Although it s your paternal instinct to take care of and control everything in their developing lives, independence is what s going to help them succeed and excel, once they re on their own in the classroom. Here are five important steps you can take to encourage more independence, in the most caring and supportive way: 1. As hard as it is to just stand by and watch your child, whether they re succeeding or not, they need that space to learn, evolve and experiment, or else they re always going to be looking for you to rescue them. Entering any preschool program, your child won t have the luxury of constant individual attention, meaning they will have no choice but to sink or swim. Since you want them to swim, start giving them room to self resolve issues now, while they still have you as a safety net. Before long, they ll understand that if they want some problems solved, they have to put on their thinking caps, use patience and take matters into their own little hands. If it seems hard for you to cease the hoovering, just wait until you feel the total exhilaration of watching your child accomplish something all on their own; it s such a breath taking moment for parents, you ll automatically start giving them more room to act independently in many instances. 3. Assign A Simple Job To Your Child You don t realize how much your child depends on you for everything, until you ask them to do something on their own. They might look at you as if you re perfectly out of your mind or they might even cry about the new task, but being a responsible, working member of a team in your house is going to go a long way toward helping your child succeed in a busy classroom. Give them a simple job they must tend to daily, showering them with affection and praise when they accomplish ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Interpretation In Ford Madox Ford s The Good Soldier Within the novel The Good Soldier, by Ford Madox Ford, narration serves as an imperative framing mechanism for propelling the plot of the story, while also generating the fragmentation necessary for maintaining the unclarity that pervades John s story. By both subtly positioning the narrator John Dowell as an outsider relative to the other characters, and consequently emphasizing the notion of being outside, Ford facilitates a pointillistic representation of the infidelities that characterize his story. Not only does Ford distance Dowell from the other characters in his narrative, but he also prompts the reader to reject John as an omnipotent, reliable source, thereby provoking the former to rely on interpretation as the primary means for finding resolution. Emphasizing several factors that distinguish John from the other characters, such as his nationality, his inclusion in and knowledge of the infidelitous relationships, his personality type, his future reflective standpoint, and his tendency to infuse his current attitudes and nostalgia into his retelling of this story, Ford employs narration as the essential mechanism for framing the story. Initially denoting both his position as an outsider, and his efforts to justify the abhorrent, adulterous, behavior of Edward Ashburnham and Florence, Dowell frames himself as an American who is merely observing British culture. While establishing himself within his story, Dowell claims that the adulterous affair is, I believe, a state of things only possible with English people of whom, till today, when I sit down to puzzle out what I know of this sad affair, I knew nothing whatever, proceeding to concede that Six months ago [he] had never been to England (Ford, 13). That Ford notes this distinction on the first page of the narrative forces the reader to immediately consider John as a relative outsider in the story, a notion that is compounded by the latter s constantly identifying cultural differences between himself and the Ashburnhams. By conceding that he had not even traveled to England prior to his experience with the Ashburnhams, Dowell implicitly frames their cultural differences as responsible for Edward Ashburnham s infidelitous tendencies and Leonora s ... There are similarities and differences between the two concepts. Each theorist views the function of the self in society. First off, George Mead s self is defined as the ability to take oneself as an object (Ritzer and Stepnisky, 2013, p. 60).While Erving Goffman s self is defined as a sense of who one is that is a dramatic effect emerging from the immediate dramaturgical scene being presented (Ritzer and Stepnisky, 2013, p. 144). • 7. Small Businesses Are Essential For The Fabric Of The... Small businesses are essential to the fabric of the American economy. Specifically the franchise model offers an easy way for an entrepreneur to attain success in the increasingly difficult and murky economical landscape. The U.S. Census Bureau estimates that over 13% of the total American workforce is compromised of franchisee employees. That equates to roughly 7.9 million workers. And while many have found unbound success within the realms of franchising, there are risks specific to undertaking such an expenditure. Aside from a high failure rate amount some franchises, the threat of litigation, like the threat that faces most business owners is a sizeable one. In August of 2015, the National Labor Relations Board released it s long awaited decision regarding joint employement in connecting to the Browning Ferris Industries of Pennsylvania, Inc. issue. In an unprecedented move, one that overturned their previous decisions and threatens to upend the basis of franchisor/fanchisee relationships the board decided that in order to find that two or more entities are joint employers of a single workforce they must (1) both be employers within the meaning of the common law; and (2) they must share or codetermine those matters governing the essential terms and conditions of employment. Most of the play deals with the fact that Estragon and Vladimir are waiting for something to relieve them from their boredom. Godot can be understood as one of the many things in life that people wait for. Waiting for Godot is part of the Theater of the Absurd . This implies that it is meant to be irrational and meaningless. Absurd theater does not have the concepts of drama, chronological plot, logical language, themes, and recognizable settings. With World War II being one of the most grueling wars the world has experienced with events such as the holocaust, it will take the effort of an entire nation to help bring the war to a victorious end. Propaganda was a major tool to help engage citizens in aiding with the war efforts. Without the use of war time propaganda, the war would most likely have a completely different outcome. That is exactly what nations like the United States and Britain used to educate their citizens on what was going on with the war. The use of propaganda in these nations had a major impact on the war. These nations used media types such as radio, posters, leaflets, comic books, books, movies, magazines, and newspapers to inform/educate the public on the war. The Experience Of Enslavement To Africans And Europeans Experience of Enslavement to Africans and Europeans Enslavement was a one of the horrors that the Africans endured to help them survive in a foreign area. The Africans did not have a choice becoming a slave thus acting like a piece of property for the people that would ensure that they would incriminate the people. Enslavement was a challenge to the black people that made it difficult for them to lead their normal lives because they were rooted from their families and dumped in a new country where they had to oblige to the commands of their owner. According to Equiano, the Africans had to cross the Atlantic Ocean under the boats where they had confinements like animals unfit for human survival (1789) . Numerous of them died on the way from diseases, hunger among other reasons and they would dump them into the sea leaving them there as food for the fishes which is inhumane. A majestic land where barriers are broken and dreams are made into reality. A land where anything is possible with a little hard work and determination. One may ask what makes a place this possible. The answer to that question is the people. Americans have a certain way about them that makes them different from any other people on earth. All Americans are heroes in some way, but a select few stand out in history as the most influential. One such individual is Jackie Robinson. Robinson redefined racial stereotypes by becoming the first African American baseball player to play in the Major League. Through his courage, determination, and perseverance, his legacy still continues to this date. One could argue numerous reasons that constitute Jackie Robinson as an American hero, but four stand out among the rest. Those reasons being that he fought for what he believed was right, overcame adversity, conquered many athletic feats, and had a lasting legacy. For these reasons Jackie Robinson truly embodies an American hero. The definition of a hero is: a person who is admired for great or brave acts or fine qualities (Merriam Webster). An American hero is someone who, yes follows this definition, but completes it in a way that furthers America as a nation. The first chapter is called Matter, and in this chapter she compares the bodies and agency of women to being small , weak , and a form of property. She explains that the universe is always subject to change and that there is always a cause and effect: similar to women; body changes, such as, breast, vulva, hair, and womb. In part two of the book she presents the notion of territory. She illustrates that men are able to be free and women give up their secrets and men are the first to know. Then she speaks about how women are expected to be loyal and patriarchy even though men screw them over at the end, which is the same action that men do to the earth with possession, use and exploration. As explained previously, Griffin, states that women are looked upon as to caring, weak, sensitive, smart less, and not strong enough. She uses a unique context to express the separation of men and nature. She stated, He says that woman speaks with nature. That she hears voices from under the earth. Introduction In this essay I will consider two common theories that attempt to account for the problem of perception, namely Direct, and Indirect realism. I will outline several arguments against direct realism and show how the theory of indirect realism more plausably accounts for the problem of perception. Objections to the arguments against direct realism will be considered and possible counterarguments given. This paper will consider two theories of perception that attempt to account for this problem, namely Direct and Indirect realism, and argue against direct realism in favour of indirect realism, leading to the conclusion that indirect realism is the more plausable of the two. Background The nature of perception, such as sight, touch, and smell appears intuitively straightforward; direct and immediate access to a mind independent world (naive realism). We feel as if we looking through our eyes, as if they are open windows to an external world, and when we feel the texture of objects through haptic (touch) perception, it feels as if we are directly touching the external surface of a mind independent objecting. Sitting on a couch it intuitively feels as if one is looking at an object which exists independent of ones visual perception (e.g. the couch continues to look green and have a soft texture even if one leaves the room). Given that there are about 12 million accountants in China (Ren 2009), if each one spends at least ¥1 on the retraining to adapt to the harmonizing accounting standards, the total amount of training costs would be ¥12 million. Though some costs of institutional change and adaptation can be reflected by figures, most of these costs are behind the scenes, so cannot be calculated. Heteronormativity is the view that all human beings are either male or female, both in sex and in gender, and that sexual and romantic thoughts and relations are normal only when between people of different sexes (Wordnik.com, 2016). Gender and Sex are not the same things. Sex is the state of being female or male, whereas gender is the state of being masculine of feminine. Sex ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Entwistle begins by discussing how clothes play a huge role in distinguishing whether someone is male or female. Furthermore, she states that sex and gender do not mean the same things. Thus when we meet someone for the first time we think we see their sex but in fact we do not. What we see is their gender appearance and we assume that this is an accurate indication of their sex (Entwistle J. 2000:141). In addition, Entwistle speaks about how clothing is far more than simply garments that cover one s body. Clothes draw attention to the sex of the wearer so that one can tell, usually at first glance whether they are a male or female. Clothing in this case is the main signifier of difference, serving to connote femininity and masculinity. Clothing also compels our actions, influencing how we sit, walk, and ... • 34. The Three Levels of Obedience to Maria Montessori The Three Levels of Obedience Julia B. Kulakowski Montessori Institute of San Diego The three levels of obedience are explained by Dr. Maria Montessori after long observations of children of multiple ages in her classroom. She defines the three of obedience as first, an ability to obey, but not all the time. Secondly an ability to obey at all times after developing their own will. Finally being able to obey consistently, moreover to follow another person which the child has deemed superior to them self. Obedience is commonly defined as acting in accordance with the will of another person. She determined that children have an inherent force within them, termed Horme: a vital internal impulse to act upon ones ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Further still is the third level of obedience in which the child not only obeys with consistency, but also finds in another person (typically an adult) superiority and follows, unfaltering, the other persons will. The child has reached total control over their own will and trusts the adult implicitly. Dr. Montessori has explained with examples of the Silence Game as a means of measuring this final level obedience. In her explanation she explores how not only do the children obey the signal given for the game (writing Silence on the blackboard), but know before the teacher has even completed writing the S what is coming and immediately go silent. It only takes one child s first movement to stop what they are doing and the rest of the class almost instantaneously quiets. She also explains how it involves the cooperation of the entire group. Without collectively becoming silent the game is not won. This development takes practice on the part of the child and discipline in restraining oneself on the part of the Guide. The trust created during this development creates a different form of responsibility. In this level of obedience the responsibility of the Guide is exponentially increased as her first movement is not only witnessed, but implicitly obeyed. This responsibility must be felt and respected by the Guide. For (Montessori, 1995) she must be cautious not to exploit for her own ends so selfless a dedication (p. 262). This game and ... Disk Jokey (DJ) is a common device in celebrations and other events. Converting the produced noise from DJ to electric energy by using a suitable piezoelectric transducer is the main aim of this study. Piezoelectric sensors used to convert the sound waves to electric charges. Piezoelectric sensor of the model 7BB 41 2 was used. The piezoelectric sensors were connected in series, parallel, and series with parallel combination connections. The disk jockey was used as an acoustic noise source. The sound intensity levels of the output sound were 81, 84, 87 dB. The output of the three connection modes were measured at 0, 1,2,3,4, and 5cm distance. The results showed that the parallel connection gave the highest power at the various distances. The maximum generated power was 4.96mwatts without using an external power supply for the signal condition device. The power decreases by increasing the distance from the source of the noise. The Character of Iago in William Shakespeare Essay The Character of Iago in William Shakespeare In the extract Iago truly shows himself to be a man of great impression upon people around him, and mostly of course people of his choice, in this case Roderigo being his victim of persuasion. Most importantly to be regarded is that Iago s methods are structured almost completely behind the way in which he communicates, and put across his intentions, than that of the information involved. They started of the concert with Jazz music, but I was unable to take notes on that because they were not exactly singing. It was more like an a capella except without any words. The next portion of the concert was Chamber Singers. I was not very sure what a Chamber Singer was so I looked it up. Before I looked it up, it seemed to me like it was a medium sized choir who quickly switch tempo and feature different solos. When I looked it up, it said that Chamber Singer was a group of 8 40 singers who sing religious or classical songs. The second part was like the choir my class does, except more complicated and more professional. I noticed that, although it was two different types of singing, they all had one thing in common, which was that they all had some kind of form to send emotion to the audience to make them feel a certain mood. The pacing of the song along with the diverse sections gives out emotion. The two emotions that where most obvious in all songs where the common emotions of sadness and happiness. The first and third song I listened to where both from the Chamber Singers and they both gave a happy cheerful mood. The first one was Achieved is The Glorious Work by Joseph Haydn and the third one was No Time by Susan Brumfield. A Lie Is What Kept Me Free A Lie Is What Kept Me Free Lies often overcomplicate situations by causing a person to have to continually tell more lies to cover up the original, when he or she could have just told the truth in the beginning. However, the problem is that the other option is not always so great either. The truth is perfectly honest, and that can cause one to get in trouble. I believe the main reason why we, as humans, lie is to protect ourselves and to protect the things for which we have much affection. Once, I had told a lie to keep myself from getting into more trouble than telling the truth would gotten me. This lie protected from losing what was the most important thing I had at the time, my freedom. This is the story of the time I lied to protect my freedom. To understand why I lied, it is primarily important to understand why I believe my freedom was at risk. I grew up in a sheltered environment in the sense that for a long time I was sheltered from much of the outside world and sheltered from making my own decision. For example, my parents believed that I wasn t ready to sleep over a friend s house, whose parents they had known for five years, until I was in high school. Due to this upbringing, I felt a severe lack of personal freedom when I entered high school. I believed that I would get more freedom when I turned sixteen and would be legally old enough to drive because I had always been a well behaved kid. Difference Between Tocqueville And Marx Tocqueville and Marx both argue for an egalitarian modern society, but their idea of equality of modern social order differs, which leads to two distinctive conclusions, democracy for former and communism for latter, which is adopted by different nations in the world. Both social theorists place high importance in analysing the history of society to determine modern social order, but have differing conceptions of history that leads to their contrasting views on the fundamental nature of the capitalist society, and their distinct predictions for the future. This essay will examine Tocqueville s and Marx s conceptions of history and through it, understand the nature of capitalist society, and comprehend their predictions for an ideal modern state. Using their analysis, I shall argue that Marx s prediction of the future is more compelling as compared to Tocqueville. The Unraveling Of Mercy Louis Summary Textual Analysis #3: The Unraveling of Mercy Louis The Unraveling of Mercy Louis, which was written in 2015, can be considered modern, even though it takes place in 1999. Maw Maw, who was Mercy s grandmother, was very strict towards Mercy, and raised her as a religious girl. She refused to let Mercy read letters from her mom, Charmaine, because she considered her a slut and did not want Mercy to turn out the same way. This sparked curiosity in Mercy, and even though Maw Maw was so stringent, Mercy continually drifted away from Maw Maw and from religion in general because of the people she interacted with throughout the course of the story. One example of this is how Mercy was good friends with Annie. Even though this friendship started at a young age, Maw Maw was never pleased with it. She believed that Annie was a bad influence on her, due to all of the things that she did, such as not caring about religion and constantly doing things that were prohibited by her religion.
