Drama Therapy Research Paper
I was having a Les MisГ©rables kindof day. My monolog from Rent was perfectly rehearsed for
the role of greeter/seater/environment creator at Applebee s. But, it s a hard knock life for a
Drama Major trying to find what is so disdainfully referred to as a real job. I Googled Drama +
Job + frowning face + Andrea and suddenly, my favorite word caught my eye: Audition. NYU.edu
caused me to double take, double tap, then double click to reveal the audition involves discussion
of the student s educational and professional background, blah, blah, blah and knowledge about the
profession of Drama Therapy. I felt as ditzy as Zaneeta Shinn in The Music Man. I don t know

Additionally, the July 19, 2010 Newsweek states that current American students are not as creative
as past generations. Psychodrama fosters creativity by encouraging experimentation, the kind

children; it has also been used with criminals. The February 2011 Arts Psychotherapy Journal
discussed the implementation of drama therapy with incarcerated offenders, which has improved
impulse control, compliance with rules, and coping skills. Corcoran State Prison began using
drama therapy on mass murderer Charles Manson and have seen so much improvement, his life

Benefits Of Single-Sex Education
Margaret Kierath
ENGL 1101
3 December 2017
Are there benefits to students experiencing single sex education? In education there are two types
of educational settings, single sex and co ed. The former is where only one gender is taught in
either a school or a classroom and co ed is where both sex intertwine an learn in a classroom or
school together. Single sex education helps the girls or boys learn at their own paste. Some benefits
to single sex educational settings to consider are style of learning, higher education, interest s and
how more independent students from singe sex schools are.
Single sex education has been around for decades; however, within a coeducational setting it
started rapidly growing in 2006. According to Spielhagen and Kohl, in 2006 NASSPE recorded
dingle sex schools in eighteen states. Within five years the number of single sex schooling has
become larger. In order to be able to have single sex education in classrooms there are three
regulations. The first regulation was to make participation voluntary , second was to show that the
single sex classes meet important government objectives , and third provide a comparable co
educational classes in a geographically accessible location . In order for there to be single gender
classes the school had to also give the option of co ed classes as well. Single sex classrooms were
put in place because girls and boys tend to learn differently and take in the information differently
then each other.

Personal Narrative-The Word Barbie Doll Procedure
At a young age, the word working was as common to me as the word barbie doll. I have been
working since I was in the fifth grade, the time I was barely learning how to add and subtract
numbers. Every day after school I was at my mom nail salon. My mom was the owner and I was
helping out. Having to experience working at a young age has allowed me to meet different
people. As soon my mom explained the procedure a customers came in. Hello, how may I help you
today? I said as she signed in her name. Yes, I would like to have a pedicure, said the women. I
replied. Could you go pick out the color you like? While she was picking out the color I would go

Why Was World War 1 A Turning Point In History
World war one occurred during 1914 to 1918 and was a major turning point in history. Thirty two
countries were involved in world war one. After the war ended many soldiers were given the title
of being a war hero for their courageous actions during the war. However all the mothers, wives and
children that were left in Australiawere left with the major responsibility of taking on paid
employment and household work and they deserve equal recognition. Whilst young Australian men
were fighting in the war, the Australian economy, workforce and female roles were changing but
the Australian spirit and reputation was only growing through the support given to sliders from
their home front.

The Australian society worked in way that prevented women from working as they were
expected to stay home look after their children and do all the domestic work. Women that where
not married before the war where unlikely to find a partner as sixty thousand men were killed and
one hundred and fifty thousand men where injured (Skwirk online education, 2016). During this
time women were expected to marry young and have children. Consequently this meant that when
the war started thousands of men were forced to abandon their jobs and fight for Australia so
there were many vacancies that need to be filled and there were also many women that were
looking after their children and had no income. The government started to employing women
through campaigns and recruiting drives (Australian Government, 2015). Women worked in areas
that where originally considered jobs for men, some of these occupations include: railway guards,
ticket collectors and some led horses or other animals on farms. Women were working the same
jobs as men but earn less than fifty percent of a man s wage (University of Lincoln, n.d). Slowly

Cash Dispenser With Finger Sensor
CASH DISPENSER WITH FINGER SENSOR
PROBLEM STATEMENT
According to World Bank, roughly 2 billion people around the world do not have access to
formal sources of banking and financial services, or more than 50% of small and mediumsized
businesses (SMEs) worldwide lack adequate access to credit.
Despite the India s meteoric GDP growth rate (about 9%), poverty in India is still pervasive;
especially in rural areas where 70% of India s 1.2 billion population live. It is one of the fastest
growing economies in the world and yet its wealth is hardly redistributed across the population.
Nearly 70 per cent of Indian villagers do not have a bank account, and tapping them would require
multiple banking channels. There are about 73,000 such villages that have no formal banking
channel. In case of government aid, a dedicated bank personal has to travel villages to provide the
money or villagers have to travel to banks at urban areas to get the money.
This finger sensor cash dispenser is an attempt to help the villages in getting the money and aid with
biometrics and can help in less fraud and better services. The concept on creating a
Government/NGO AID Money dispenser for developing countries where most of the people are
illiterate and still don t have access to modern Banking system. For them only biometric is to be

Compare And Contrast Mental Health And Paramedic
Introduction
This report will look at two different professions, a Mental Health Nurse and a Paramedic. This
report will look at the different registrations, codes of conduct and more. As both professions work
for the NHS, it will be interesting to see the difference between roles, responsibilities and how each
profession becomes fully trained.
A professional is a member of a disciplined group, who must stick to certain ethical standards.
They will be skilled and competent in their line of work; this will be there way of income rather
than a hobby or volunteering.
Paramedic Mental Health Nurse
A Paramedic is a professional who works within the healthcare industry; they work alongside
Ambulance Technicians, other Paramedics, Doctors and Nurses. They work on the frontline and
are called out to any emergencies, where they can work with the Fire Brigade and Police depending
on the emergency. Paramedics are usually first on the scene and give emergency treatment until
handed over to the relevant department. (Health Careers, 2017) A Mental Health Nurse also works
within the healthcare industry, however they are mostly based in a hospital setting or out within the
community. They can work in a psychiatric ward or visit patients at home. A Mental Health Nurse
can work alongside, Psychologists, Social workers and other therapists. Unlike a Paramedic, a
Mental Health Nurse has more one to one time with patients. This can help build relationships with
their patients and family,

Portage River Observation
On October 3, 2017 the 7th grade, team odyssey went on a trip to William Henry Harrison Park
to observe the Portage River and the ecosystems around it. There the 7th grade team observed
the the water quality of the Portage River. The 7th grade team used chemical, physical, and
biological indicators to observe the quality of the Portage River. The 7th graders took a nature
hike and observed the nature around the Portage River. There, a nature expert talked about
invasive species, seed distribution, and plants. When the water rises the seed pods come off of
plants and float on the water, the seeds then are carried to new places. The 7th graders talked
about how the monarchs are declining because of the lack of milkweed. They also talked about
plants like goldenrod and poison ivy. Around the Portage River there are habitats like prairies,
forests, and floodplains. Plants in the riparian zone help to filter the water before it goes into the
river. The 7th graders also studied biological indicators. They... Show more content on

They observed the clarity of the water, dissolved oxygen, pH, run, pool, riffle, odor, depth, and
substrate. The clarity of the water was 71cm which means the clarity of the water is fine
because 71cm is in the middle of the turbidity tube. The amount dissolved oxygen is 12 which is
the best amount of D.O. The pH was 8 which means the water quality is good. The odor was
musky. The depth of the run was 22cm. The substrate was rocky which is good because the rocks
filter the water. All of this data leads you to the conclusion that the Portage River has excellent
water quality. The field trip was educational and informational. I would like to thank the BGMS

Parable Of The Good Samaritan
When given the option between the Good Samaritan or the Prodigal Son, I chose the Good
Samaritan. I believe this parable represents a common misconception of our walk with Christ. This
parable deals with individuals who are excepted to show compassion that does not and individuals
who are least likely to show compassion that actually does. In this passage Jesusteaches the lawyer
that everyone is his neighbor; thus meaning he should love everyone, regardless of their situation or
social standard.
1. The Setting...why did Jesus tell this parable?
Jesus introduced this parable to a Pharisee that was a law expert (lawyer or Scribe). The Pharisee
asks Jesus what he must do to earn eternal life. Jesus then allowed the Pharisee to answer his own
question by asking what the law said. The Pharisee correctly explained himself by saying love
the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with
all your mind. ; and, Love your neighbor as yourself. The lawyer then proceeds to ask who his
neighbors were. Jesus replied with The Parable of the Good Samaritan, which teaches God s law of
love and how to effectively express it.
2. The Characters
Character #1 Jesus was referred to specifically in this parable as a Teacher by the Pharisee. He is
also considered to be the storyteller in this specific piece. Globally known as the Son of God.
Character #2 The Pharisee was an expert in the law which allowed him to answer his own question

What Does Ingram Mean To Me Essay
Everyone s experiences are different and everyone has their own life story. The characteristic
that makes a person different from someone else is how a person chooses to let it shape them as

past eighteen years has made the biggest impact on me and my life. Not many people even

History Is A Repetition Of Events
History is a repetition of events: war after war, economic crisis after economic crisis, technology
outdoing itself as we speak. A line of events that for centuries have been reported by the world s
oldest storytellers: journalists. Yet, the future of journalism itself has never been as uncertain and
unpredictable as it has been in the past decade and the role of gatekeepers of news has never been
more precarious.
The digital era has brought traditional journalism to the edge, forcing the industry to update its
means in order to sustain the constant commercial pressure it is put under.
On some level, the digital era disrupted an already easily corruptible industry, while from another
perspective, it has opened new opportunities for innovation and renovation, which could mean the
restoring of such criticized profession.
It is inferable that the Fourth Estate , as in journalism acting as a watchdog and as provider of
objective and impartial news, is in great danger.
The pressure to maximise profits and the frequent censorship, both as a result of government
control, and market ownership, have undermined the industry s professionalism as a whole.
At the same time, new media has been claimed to be a dynamic tool to enhance democracy, as it
allows citizens to bypass the traditional mainstream news media and to get access to a plurality of
information coming from alternative and independent news providers and online watchdog
organizations, untouched by any kind of pressure.

PHO Or Physician-Hospital Organizations
Despite in the United States, PHOs or Physician Hospital Organizations have been in decline,
they are making a comeback. The PHO is defined as a legal entity formed by physicians and one
or more hospital with the intention of negotiating contracts with payers and sharing in the financial
rewards of controlling cost while delivering high quality care. (Farlex, 2014). PHO is best
described in three ways:
1. If doctors and hospitals cooperate to provide better care and lower cost, not to force higher fees
from payers, so that the PHO can offer a convincing plan to payers.
2. PHO can succeed if it meets independent doctors professional and cost effective needs.

Summary Of To Techers By Rabindranath Tagore
Within the works of, To Techers, by Rabindranath Tagore, the reader is introduced to Tagore s
personal story of why he created his school. Tagore is a man who believed that the current
educational system is poisoning children s minds, due to the lack of creativity the child
receives when learning from non active lectures. Tagore starts by giving his life story of when
he was a child. However, He describes his schooling atmosphere as a type of prison where the only
way for him to escape was to finish learning as soon as possible. Because Tagore had despised the
educational system, he had created his own school, where students would learn in a natural
atmosphere. To do this, he implemented dramatic performances, decorations for the different
seasons, and brought in musicians to play freely amongst the school. Even Tagore had produced
his own songs and writings to show his students the lively atmosphere of school. He believed
that schooling should not be a prison, but a way for many to come together and understand other
s in the fullest sense. Tagore had the idea of not a university, but a meeting place for students of
all countries and religions to come together to find spiritual unity, or as Tagore puts it, I have in
mind not merely a University, for that is only one aspect of our Visva Bharati, but the idea of a
great meeting place for individuals from all countries where men who believe in spiritual unity can
come in touch with their neighbors, (Tagore 44). To put it

Light And Darkness Analysis
Light and Darkness
In John s gospel, it talks about how light represents the good and darkness represents the evil. It
also talks how the light will take over the darkness no matter what. Sometimes it hard to tell
what is the light. For example, in John 3:19 21, it talks about if someone believes the darkness.
Their work will be evil and nonexistent. If someone believes in the light, their work can be seen to
God. It s talking about people s personality how if someone is evil or believe in the darkness. Their
faith will be evil and God won t see any good of that person s faith. If someone is good or believe in
the light, God will see the good things that they do for others because they have a lot of faith.
Choosing Jesus or Rejecting Jesus
In John 1:19 23, it talks about how John had to prove himself that he is the light. He told the
Jews that he was the voice of one crying out in the desert. Some people do believe and some
people don t believe him. In John 1:29 34, John didn t believe Jesus was the son of God, but he
believed there was someone is ranked higher than him. He didn t think it was Jesus. Until, Jesus
said he saw the Spirit coming down. Another example is in John 6:60 71, a lot of Jesus s
disciples didn t accept Jesus so those disciples return back to their life. Even Jesus knew they didn
t believe in him from the start. Only Simon Peter believe in Jesus because Jesus has the guidance
to eternal life so he stayed with Jesus.

A Brief Note On Deforestation And Charcoal Production
Mahdi 8 Deforestation and Charcoal Production in Somalia Mahdi Haile DPP 911.01: Environ
Factors in Development Practice Kalle Matso July 30, 2015 INTRODUCTION According to the
information thrown from the course reveals that over the past 30 years, assessments of the
woodfuel situation in developing countries, have changed substantially. In the mid 1970s,
recognition that huge and growing numbers of people depended on fuelwood as their principal
domestic fuel led to predictions of potentially devastating depletion of forest resources, with
serious negative livelihood consequences for the rural poor, unless action was taken to address
this ??fuelwood crisis? (Arnold,J.E, and Gunnar Hlin 2006). Charcoal consumption is often
growing faster than fuelwood consumption. Though still less relative to fuelwood in most of Asia,
charcoal use is becoming a much larger part of the woodfuels total in Africa and South America. In
Africa, the aggregate of consumption of fuelwood and wood for charcoal is growing at a rate close
to that of population growth. The overall quantities involved, and the numbers still relying on
woodfuels continue to be very large. The International Energy Agency recently estimated that,
although shifts to other sources of energy could be expected to substantially reduce the share of
these fuels by 2030, biomass energy will still account for an mated three quarters of total residential
energy in Africa in that year, and that the

The World War I, The Australian Home Front
During World War I, the Australian home front was impacted by a long and varying list of
occurrences during the period of time between the years of 1914 to 1918. The home front was
influenced politically through the arguments over the conscription vote and as Australia became
divided between the different war beliefs. It was also influenced by social change, as the use of
censorship drastically altered the Australians views of war and women began to pick up odd jobs
in order to assist the soldiers as very few of them were allowed to directly help as nurses in
Gallipoli. There were also extreme economic alterations as the wages in Australiawere pushed down
and prices were pushed up, and the country discarded major trade partners who had become their
enemy.
***
The Australian home front during WWI was drastically altered politically through the conscription
vote that Billy Hughes, Prime Minister of Australia, believed necessary. 50,000 Australian men
had signed up for the war before the year of 1914 had come to an end which was a rate of over
10,000 per month but the enlistment numbers dropped way down to 6,000 for the month of the
Gallipoli landing in 1915. Once again, however, the numbers rose sharply on the home front after
the news of the landing came back home, as many wished to avenge their fallen countrymen, and
nobody could question the solemnity of the conflict. With five whole divisions overseas, Australia
had to stay committed to their recruitment for the

Mental Health And Substance Abuse Disorders
Introduction
Policy makers and researchers have paid attention to behavioral health problems due to significant
burden of morbidity and disability, as well as health care cost. The term behavioral health refers to a
state of mental or emotional being and choices and actions that affect wellness. It encompasses both
mental health and substance use, including such as depression, substance abuse or misuse, serious
psychological distress, and suicide (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration,
2011). In 2012, an estimated 16 million adults aged 18 or older in the U.S. had at least one major
depressive episode in the past year. This represented 6.9 percent of all U.S. adults (Substance Abuse
and Mental Health Services Administration, 2013). People with mental and substance abuse
disorders may find difficulties to maintain interpersonal relations, find and sustain employment, and
care for themselves and family members because behavioral health problem may affect individual s
ability to function in daily life. Although mental health problems are both common and important in
general population, they are especially common in women than men (Substance Abuse and Mental
Health Services Administration, 2013), and in particular in individuals who are socially
disadvantaged (Heflin Iceland, 2009).
Although a variety of factors are related to psychological wellbeing among low income women,
decades of research find poverty to be a correlate of behavioral health problem

Summary Of Digging By Seamus Heaney
The free verse poem called Digging by Seamus Heaney is about a boy who admires his father s
work, but wants to be different from him. The poem takes place at a farm in Toner s Bog; we
know this because during the time when he flashes back, the father and grandfather are working
on digging, and also because they are harvesting potatoes it must be on a farm. The poem is
about the speaker who is a boy, and who wants to be someone different from his father. He looks
out the window when he hears a rasping sound of his father putting the spade into the ground, and
then he flashes back 20 years before. Although he admires the work his father does, he himself
does not have it in him to follow in his footsteps. But I ve no spade to follow men like... Show more

How Has Society Changed In Puritan Times
Almost everything about society has changed since the time of the Puritans, and many of the
changes have happened within the last hundred years. Many of society s rules were constructed
during the Puritan times to properly establish a governing body and it is important to examine
how these concepts of society have changed and the importance of establishing them in the first
place. Looking through the lenses of three different perspectives, over 300 years, it is easy to tell
which of society s rules have changed the most. To do this, we must look at society through the
eyes of a Puritan, my grandmother and myself. Born in the 1940s and raised in Griswold, Iowa, my
grandmother provided insight to how society was during her time in primary and... Show more

The Puritans lived just before the slave trade took off. Minorities had no rights in early America
and were not even considered humans. When my grandmother was in grade school, the Jim

did not live in the deep South, where it was most prevalent. However, she tells of her friend, who
lived in Texas during the same time. In Texas, the schools were separated into black schools,
white schools and Hispanic schools. The idea of separate but equal was still in full swing,
however logically, there is no possibility of those three schools begin anywhere close to equal.

Bangladesh Government Budget Deficit
Fiscal Policy generally refers to the use of taxation and government expenditure to regulate the
aggregate level of economic activity in a country. Fiscal policy in Bangladesh basically comprises
activities, which the country carries out to obtain and use resources to provide services while
ensuring optimum efficiency of the economic units. The policy influences the behaviour of
economic forces through public finance. Major objectives of the fiscal policy of Bangladesh are to
ensure macroeconomic stability of the country, promote economic growth, and develop a
mechanism for equitable distribution of income. The main tools to achieve these objectives are

The major objective of the government fiscal policy was to restrict the growth of current
expenditure to a level below the growth of the nominal GDP, thereby making more resources
available to support annual development programme (ADP) undertaken in each year. In line with
the Enhanced Structural Adjustment Facility (ESAF) of the IMF, a number of reforms were
initiated, the most important of which was the introduction of value added tax (VAT) in July 1991.
VAT was introduced at a uniform rate of 15% at the manufacturing cum import level. Together with
protection neutral supplementary duties, this system largely replaced the earlier structure of
differentiated sales tax on import and excise duties on domestic goods. In case of personal income
tax, the major reforms involved the inclusion of entertainment allowances in the personal income
tax base, deduction of investment in approved assets from the tax base, and an introduction of a
withholding tax on dividend with limitation of special expenditure within a reasonable limit. Steps
were taken to reduce interest rates on government savings instruments and subsidies for food and
jute. A good number of public sector enterprises were denationalised through sales to the private
sector.
These reform measures resulted in a remarkable improvement in the fiscal situation of Bangladesh
after 1990. The growth of current expenditures was contained below the

Walter Elias Disney Essay
Walter Elias Disney
Disney has become a household name in American society, but most people are not aware of Walt
Disney s struggles before becoming one of the twentieth century s most prominent and successful
animators and film directors. Walt Disney is best know for his characters Mickey Mouse, Donald
Duck, Pluto, Goofy, and Minnie Mouse, but his company can also be credited with achievements
such as the first fully synchronized sound picture, Steamboat Willie , the first full color animation,
Flowers and Trees , and the first full length animated movie, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs .

Study Design: Case Control Study
Title: Presence of increased stiffness of the common carotid artery and endothelial dysfunction in
severely obese children: A prospective study
Journal: The Lancet
Numerous epidemiological studies infer that cardiovascular complications have a directly
proportional relationship with obesity in children. The study I chose however, has gone deeper by
observing arterial changes as well as its relationship to cardiovascular risk in children who are
obese. One of the reasons this study design was chosen by the author comes from a 55 year cohort
study which evaluated the morbidity and mortality from cardiovascular diseases in adults who
were overweight in their adolescent years. The study showed that of the adults evaluated, the
adults with obesity in their adolescent years had an increased risk of morbidity and mortality from
cardio vascular disease, regardless of their weight classification as an adult. What these studies did
not observe however, were the pathological changes that take place in the cardiovascular system,
and even more specifically how obesity associated artherogenesis develops during the adolescent
years. Fortunately, with the development of new technology, different echo tracking procedures
could be used to observe the pathological function of the carotid and brachial arteries and children.
These new echo tracking techniques are noninvasive and can be used to determine if overweight
children show early pathological

Ancient Rome And The Roman Empire
At its height, the Roman Empire was the most extensive political and social structure in western
civilization. The remains of this empire can still be seen today. The empire was filled with
advanced people and technology for its time. The Roman Empire has rich history, helpful
geography and resources, provinces, an advanced government, and unique people and culture.
Ancient Rome can be divided into three main parts. The Roman Monarchy, the Roman Republic,
and the Roman Empire. The Romans believed that a man named Romulus founded the city of Rome
. The legend is that Romulus and his twin brother Remus were cast away in a basket on the Tiber
river. A she wolf found them and gave the twins her milk. The farmer and his wife, owners of the
she wolf, found the twins and raised them from there. Later in an argument, Romulus killed
Remus and then founded the city of Rome on April 21,753 B.C. Historians still do not know
how much of this legend is true or if it is true at all. Either way, Rome is named after Romulus.
The Roman Republic moved on to the Roman Empire because of a man named Julius Caesar.
Julius Caesar was a cunning politician who centralized government around himself. The people of
the Roman Republic feared that Caesar would make himself king and end the republic. Due to
this fear, Julius Caesar was stabbed to his death outside of the senate building on the Ides of March
on March 15, 44 B.C. The concept of one man ruling continued with Julius Caesar s

Generational Differences Essay
Generational Differences
Every generation is influenced by its period s economic, political and social events. From the
Great Depression to the civil rights and women s movements to the advent of television and
advanced computer technologies. Thus generational background/situation may also affect the way
they work. The key is to be able to effectively address and take advantage of the differences in
values and expectations of each generation in the workplace. The current work place consists of
four different generations; The Baby Boomers (1946 1964) who are slowly retiring and existing
the workforce, The Generation X (1965 1976), The Generation Y or millennia (1977 1997), and the
Generation Z who are about to or are just entering the work force. Although these different
generations tend to want similar things in a workplace their environment/background has shaped
their character, values, and expectations (Hahn 2011).
Baby Boomers perspective
According to Hahn (2011), baby boomers share the following background and characteristics:
Raised during a time of economic prosperity and optimism.
Grew up with a clear division of gender roles and low divorce rate.
Experience the Vietnam War, the Apollo 11 moon landing, and the civil right movement.
They are comfortable working in hierarchical organizations.
Demonstrate a strong sense of self, leadership, and entrepreneurship.
Expect life to revolve around work.
Prefer face to face meetings.

Thousands of people wanted to arrive into the Big Apple and several businessmen recognized that

While these (rail agencies) have not expanded their services into Penn Station as much as New
Jersey Transit has, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority has studies being worked on to
provide such availabilities with regards to its Metro North Railroad. Two of the aforementioned
railroad s lines, the New Haven and Hudson Line are being looked upon as for having the potential
to arrive in Penn Station rather than terminating into Grand Central Terminal through already
existing trackage. The New Haven Line can utilize the same tracks that Amtrak trains use to run
from Penn Station to (New Rochelle), where it connects to Metro North s New Haven Line; the
latter line can run along Amtrak s Hell Gate Line with the possiblity of adding new train station
along the way within the vicinities of Co op City, Parkchester, and Hunts Point before reaching
34th street. The Hudson Line can run along Amtrak s Empire Connection line that the agency uses
to allow its Empire Service trains to transfer from Metro North s Hudson Line into Penn Station.
Along the line, new rail stations may be implemented within the vicinities of West 125th and West
62nd Streets in Manhattan s West Side. While an impressive feat, any developments along these
lines will have to be (slowed down) until the East Side Access is completed, allowing LIRR trains
to terminate at Grand Central Terminal instead of Penn Station; rail traffic in the station is high
enough as it is to allow for more trains from a fourth agency to have trains run into and terminate at.

The Mortals Influence On Society
Once upon a time, many, many years ago, the society, Fallen was born. It was a land of peace,

the people, led by Orillia Norback had overthrown the communist government of The Mortals,
and their corrupt leader, Samil Aredon. Aredon was a cruel and sadist man, he believed in
discrimination, genocide, and torture. He was a racist and a sexist, and believed that social
inequality is what drove a society. Many speculated that he was a victim of mental illness,
although no one could pinpoint what it was. After being fed up with Arodon s practices, the rebels

Fallen became a society where all races, cultures and genders were embraced. However, just like
many other societies, Fallen experienced their share of conflict, mainly with their biggest rival:
The British Isles. The British Isles had always planned to invade The Mortals, but stepped back
because of the civil war between the people, and the communist government. Now, with a new
government, a combination of monarchy, and democracy, Fallen, became a force to be reckoned
with. Conflict within the society arose after an attempted invasion from the British Isles in 2180.
Many, mainly the people of colour were wounded severely, angering the coloured community.
Many speculated that this was the British s attempt to tear apart the society from the inside, and it
worked. Fallen soon became a place where division struck, where a line between Black and White
arose. Territorial disputes, interstates, and terrorism came after, leaving the society, vulnerable.
Vulnerability, gave the British Isles an advantage, where in 2230, Fallen was taken over by the

Film Analysis Of Peter Koeleman s The Headline Woman
In a big city like Chicago filled with great music and adventure, good times are easy to track.
Unsurprisingly, so is crime and misconduct, famously running rampant with the media trailing
close behind. However, do the journalists follow ethical principles? Or do their behaviors follow
suit with those they re pursuing? The musical adaptation film Chicago suggests unethical actions
and portrays a dramatic narrative filled with rumors, misjudgment, and sensationalism. Set in a
similar time period to The Headline Woman, Chicago tells the story of stardom seeking Roxie
Hart who joins the company of murderesses on death row after killing her lover out of jealousy
and madness. With assistance from gatekeeper Mama and the charming, sharp witted attorney
Billy Flynn, Hart finally gets the press and fame she was searching for. Her and fellow inmate,

immediately, in the second scene of the movie, photojournalists and reporters were overwhelming

What Is The Powerful Message In Ayn Rand s Atlas Shrugged
The Powerful Message of Ayn Rand s Atlas Shrugged
Capitalism, according to John Galt, is mutual trade to mutual advantage, (Rand Atlas Shrugged 989)
or as Adam Smith put it: [trade] by mutual consent and to mutual advantage. In true capitalism, the
economy is strictly separated from the state, just as there is a separation between church and state
in the USA. This basic tenet of capitalism describes the only economic system that can be morally
justifiable. Communism, fascism, socialism, dictatorships and regulated capitalism are all systems
that breach upon an individual s basic rights, while capitalism respects and recognizes a man s right
to control the product of his mind. In her philosophical treatise Atlas ... Show more content on

By utilizing hard working and honest heroes and heroines such as Hank Rearden and Dagny
Taggart, Ayn Randpresents what really happens to the victims of the needy.
In essence, capitalism is the only economic system that is compatible with individual freedom. In
every other form of economy, a person is, in one way or another, a slave to the non entity known
as the public good. In the anti capitalist society of Atlas Shrugged, the Hank Reardens and the
Dagny Taggarts of the world are constantly at the mercy of the government s whims and fancies
because, whenever it deems that the public good is threatened, the government can justify any
action towards them. Points one and two of Directive 10 289 where workers must stay where they
work and businesses must stay in operation clearly illustrate how an anti capitalist economy can
literally enslave its people In the name of general welfare (Rand Atlas Shrugged 505).
The right to life is the most important freedom an individual can have, and capitalism is the only
system that is consistent with this right. Since man has to sustain his life by his own effort, the
man who has no right to the product of his effort has no means to sustain his life (Rand Man s
Rights 288). This necessarily leads to the notion of the absolute right to private property, the
bedrock upon which the moral and practical foundations of the capitalist system rest. By

Operation Satanic occurred around the time of midnight on July 10th 1985. In the Waimata
Harbour on Marsden Wharf in Auckland, New Zealand, the Rainbow Warrior had visited before
leading a group of vessels to Mururoa Atoll to protest against the French nuclear testing that was
going to take place in the South Pacific. The Rainbow Warrior had been the flagship of an
international environmental organisation, Greenpeace. The sinking of the Rainbow Warriorended
with the death of Fernando Pereira, who was a photographer who had drowned on the vessel
caused by the explosions in the boat.

The 10th of July was the date when two bombs exploded and sunk the Greenpeace flagship the
Rainbow Warrior. It was visiting Auckland before leading a protest in Mururoa Atoll against the
French nuclear testing in the South Pacific. The Rainbow Warrior was hit trying to neutralise
the ship ahead of its planned protest, French agents had worn diving gear and they had placed
two packets of plastic wrapped explosives to it, one by the propeller, one to the outer wall of the
engine room. The two explosions sunk the Rainbow Warrior and shock the harbour. That night
on the Rainbow Warrior, there had been a birthday celebration, people on board the vessel for
this celebration was several crew members and some locals. At around 11.30 at night, members
had been asleep in their cabins, while the others had either left the ship or were up talking over
strategies and plans. Underwater charges had been placed on her hull by French agents who dived
underwater, blowing two holes in the ship. The Rainbow Warrior had sunk almost immediately. The
crew all managed to escape, except a photographer named Fernando Pereira, who drowned with the
boat.
The government chose to respond to peaceful protest with deadly force

Comparing Araby and Genesis Essay
Parallels between Araby and Genesis
In the Bible, the story of creation occurs in the garden of Eden. The book of Genesis tells the tale
of Adam and Eve, whom God allowed to eat the fruit from any tree in the garden except for that of
the central tree of knowledge. Unfortunately, with the serpent s deceitful encouragement, Eve
enticed Adam to eat from that banned tree. The fruit opened Adam s eyes to the reality that he was
naked (Gen. 3:7 20). Interestingly, the second paragraph of Araby alludes to the Genesis account of
Eden. The wild garden behind the house contained a central apple tree and a few straggling bushes.
Aside from commenting on the eroded isle of Ireland, Joyce uses this allusion to arrange the entire

Later the narrator tells of how he follows her to school and how he thinks about her constantly,
much like an adolescent in love would do. This feeling is not foreign to any reader; during the
youth of our lives, we too have desired someone at a point beyond normality.
Adam, the narrator, is obviously infatuated with Mangan s sister. Similar to what an adolescent
would do, the narrator trusts his love and will do anything for her. Such is the case when
discussing Araby, a bazaar. As she cannot attend due to a prior engagement, the narrator agrees to
get her something if he goes. Thus, the narrator offers to do something beyond what he would
normally do. Since the first mention of Araby is the narrator s conversation with Mangan s sister,
the bazaar apparently is neither a normal nor an extraordinarily popular event. Coupled with the
aunt s surprise at the narrator s desire to visit the bazaar, a reader receives the feeling that the
narrator would not have otherwise gone to Araby.
Eve has shown Adam the fruit, and Adam is weighing its opportunities. Without desire for
schoolwork and little more for play, the narrator had hardly any patience with the serious work of
life, which...seemed to [him] child s play, ugly monotonous child s play. Clearly, the narrator is
enthralled by Araby. The Eastern connotation to the word offers

Assembly Line Olympics of History
Assembly Line Olympics of History Assembly lines are a big part of manufacturing in almost
every country in the world. Some work better than others, so an analytical breakdown would be
required to be able to tell which factories and countries are more effective than others, and what
they do to get that way. The function of organized work and division of labor has been around
since ancient times. On the timeline of organized work, the closer one gets to modern day, the
more organized labor becomes, and the more labor gets divided. It started with the three basic
job groups, food, child care, and shelter (Kranzberg, 1). Then, in places such as Greece, Rome,
Egypt, and Mesopotamia, labor was divided up by social classes. The rulers and nobility were
the ones overseeing the work and directing the economy, (Hannan, 2), while the priests held
knowledge of writing, reading, math, and the more scholarly subjects. Next down the line were
clerks and scribes, (Kranzberg, 2), and then merchants and traders underneath them who bought
and sold goods. Then there were peasants, slaves, and lastly prisoners of war who were forced to
work. We can see some similarities of this ancient hierarchy in modern day. The social/working
pecking order of ancient times hasn t faded. We have the government officials, the politicians, the
doctors lawyers, the modern merchants and salesmen, the working class, and even convicts who
work to earn credit or are even forced to work.

If You Ain T First, It s The Only Thing Analysis
It was in 1955, in a Sports Illustrated article just before the 1956 Rose Bowl, that Vince
Lombardi was quoted saying, Sure, winning isn t everything; it s the only thing. Or maybe one
can recall the 2006 film in which Will Ferrell s character Ricky Bobby, a NASCAR superstar, can
be heard saying, If you ain t first, you re last. These two quotes are just a couple of prime examples
when it comes to understanding the value of competition in our American culture. There is an
assumption that only those who win can and will be successful. Understanding that the United
States is a place that is supposedly ONE nation under God, yet is so driven by the assumption that
you must always win at everything, begs the question; what is the significance... Show more content

It can be noted in an article from 2016 in Psychology Today, that for decades, psychologists
noticed something ironic among top athletic competitors. Setting aside those who were clearly
happy having won first place, and looking at those who society would call losers (second and
third), it was more often than not, those who came away with bronze medals appeared more
accomplished and happier than those who won silver. The significance in this can be seen through a
greater appreciation from those who barely won than from those who completely out performed
their competition or fell somewhere in the middle. An article from the Huffington Post furthers this
idea of happiness and winning. The article references research done for the Journal of Experimental
Social Psychology, in which they were researching this exact topic. The researchers wrote, Happy
people savor little things that occur frequently, and unhappy people strive for intense experiences
that rarely occur. Their study provides evidence that a difference in attitude greatly shapes how our

Succinate Dehydrogenase
The experiment aimed to determine the effectiveness of differential centrifugation and tissue
homogenisation methods of separating and purifying subcellular organelles from liver tissue.
Effectiveness was determined by assaying for the activity of marker enzymes specific to organelles
in each fraction and calculating the specific activities and percentage distribution of each enzyme in
each fraction (Watson, 2016).
The first enzyme marker used was Succinate Dehydrogenase which catalyses the oxidation of
succinate to fumarate in the tricarboxylic acid cycle (Hollywood, et al., 2010). This cycle occurs
within mitochondria and succinate dehydrogenase is specifically found within the inner
mitochondrial membrane. Therefore, succinate dehydrogenase activity is an indicator of
mitochondrial activity (Berg, et al., 2007). Mitochondria are large organelles, approximately 0.5

The heavy membrane fraction had the highest percentage distribution (93.236 %) of succinate
dehydrogenase, indicating good separation of the mitochondria into their predicted fraction and the
success of differential centrifugation as a method of separation. A small percentage of succinate
dehydrogenase was also found in the light membrane and cytosolic fractions: 6.131 % and 0.633 %
respectively. The activity in these two fractions could be due to excessive homogenisation causing
fragmentation of mitochondria into small low density fragments. The lower density meant they
achieved sedimentation at higher centrifugal forces than expected resulting in separation into the
light membrane or cytosol fraction (Claude, 1946). Additionally, mitochondrial activity could be
present in the light membrane fraction due to disruption of the heavy membrane pellet during
transfer of the supernatant, causing the pellet to contaminate the

Accidental Tourist Essay
Muriel Pritchett vs. Sarah Leary: Macon s Choice
Compared to other novels that deal with love affairs and romances, The Accidental Tourist by
Anne Tyler is different because it takes the reader on a trip through the character s minds. Macon
Leary s wife separates herself from him. Their problems begin with the death of their son, Ethan
Leary. That is not to say that they agree on raising him, because they didn t. When Ethan was born,
he only brought out more of their differences (16). They choose to raise Ethan differently. Sarah
wants to let him be happy and free, while Macon wants him to be more scheduled and structured.

You know I drive according to a system (4). She can come off as being over dramatic at times,
and somewhat annoying, but that could possibly be because we are used to Macon s mundane
personality. Macon still feels that he might in some way be responsible for his son s death. Sarah
tries to convince him that he is not. She does not support his career, which to her seems boring
and pointless. Sarah is comforting for Macon. They have been together for a long time and have a
history together. She, at times, can be just what Macon needs to feel comfortable. Even though he
preaches that you don t need to be home to feel home, he contradicts himself in that aspect.
Although Macon himself feels that he has trouble showing emotion, he doesn t see anything wrong
with the way he acts. He may disagree with Sarah on many fundamental levels such as this, but he
feels that if he were to leave Sarah, he would in some ways be leaving his son s legacy behind. But
when he meets Muriel Pritchett, things change.
Muriel has a son named Alexander who is about the age Macon s son was when he died. This
automatically makes Macon more drawn toward Muriel. He hadn t known she had a little boy.
He felt some inner click of adjustment; she was a slightly different person from the one he d
imagined (111). We do see Macon s soft side emerge somewhat when he is dealing with
Alexander. He may in ways feel that he might be able to pick up where

Argumentative Essay On Nuclear Waste
A world filled with uncertainty is already a scary place to live. Murphy s law only makes that
uncertainty destined for disaster where anything can go wrong, will undoubtedly go wrong. The
United States has placed itself under the mercy of Murphy s law, not because of Trump s threats of
war with North Korea, but because it has no safe way of disposing of its nuclear waste. Radiation is
a silent killer; if exposed into the environment it could lead to genetic mutations, cancer, and if long
enough, premature death. Furthermore, radioactive material can work its way up from the
environment to animals, to humans up the food chain nowhere near the site of exposure. We have
been complacent in finding a permanent solution to nuclear waste... Show more content on

That one percent of waste can be devastating to any ecosystem it is exposed to. Radiation is
invisible, it has no scent, it cannot be cleaned by soap, and it should be of concern as much as
any disease or virus. The scientific community unanimously agrees that exposure to high levels
of radiation is a health hazard. Many people feel unconcerned because they feel it s not a
relevant problem in their lives. However, there are over 71,000 tons of nuclear waste simple in
temporary storage at the U.S. s 104 nuclear reactors (Oliver). Nearly one out of three Americans
live within a 50 mile radius of a reactor filled with waste (Oliver). Still many are skeptical
remaining ignorant of the potential dangers of radiation exposure. The severity of the damage
to a person s heath due to radiation is based on how much radiation and how long they were
exposed to the amounts of radiation. The amount of radiation a person receives is measured in
rem and depending on that the health effects could range from no observable health effects, to
cancer, to even death (Effects of Radiation). Even a fraction of the amount of radiation to kill a
person could cause nausea, fatigue, vomiting, loss of appetite, loss of hair and abnormalities in
blood cells (Effects of Radiation). Nuclear waste from a typical fuel rod will still have 2,000 times
more rem than the required dosage to kill a person even after 10 years (USNRC). Clear examples
of why people should be worried about exposure to

Why Is Australia Marginalised
In Australia, the Muslim culture is seen as a marginalised group in our society, but for what
reasons? Its becoming increasingly difficult and complex with the rise in Islamaphobia and anti
Islamic sentiments that filter through the Australian society and media for Muslims in Australia.
There is an us and them mentality in terms of Australian relations with Muslims living in Australia.
There seems to be several reasons for this. The Australian society doesn t seem to cater nor care for
the traditions and religion of Muslim people living in Australia, there is a high volume of
discrimination and racism targeting Muslims. Western Sydney and Charles Sturt university recently
conducting a survey regarding the issue of the marginalisation of Muslim ... Show more content on

I am an Australian Muslim. The recent actions of the group known as Islamic State have put my
faith in the spotlight as a threat to my nation and fellow Australians with whom I share the
privilege of living in this great nation. It is here that I practice my faith freely. This is someone
that values and respects the land he lives on and is truly in disbelief in the attempts of ISIS to
turn his faith against the country he lives in. Previously mentioned, Waleed Aly is becoming a
reference point and communicator for Muslims in Australia. He has recently advocated his views
about ISIS on news program The Project where he brings truth to the strategy of ISIS. He
believes that ISIS want to diminish the social cohesion between Muslims and Australians so that
Muslims become the enemy and threat for Australians so they have no where to turn. ISIS creates
the stereotype for ordinary Muslims to be seen as though they stand for terrorism to the Australian
public but really don t at all. Aly says They want to start World War III, a global warm between
Muslims and everyone else, thats what they want to create. They want societies like Australia to
turn on each other. What Australians fail to see nor except is that when they show feelings of
hostility and anger against ISIS and Muslims in general, it is feeding the Islamic State even more

The Pros And Cons Of The Louisiana Purchase
The Louisiana Purchase was a key point in The United States of America s history that without it,
the country as we know it would be completely different. The Louisiana Purchase may have been
a controversial decision, but it was a good on that put America on track to becoming a superpower.
Almost half of America was included in the Purchase and the rest on the west coast is separated by
the land included in the Purchase. So, if the purchase had never happened America would still be
confined to only the east coast that borders the Atlantic and we d be a much smaller country.
However, since the Louisiana Purchasedid happen, the country spans from both the west and east
coast. The Louisiana Purchase is the treaty that lead America to be one of the three largest
countries in the world. Along with the land came the things that are within nature and can only be
created by nature which are natural resources. Included in the Purchase made between Jefferson
and Napoleon was everything on and in the ground, that was bought. This means that all of the
gold, oil, wood, and any other useful resources that could be found on the land was included in
the deal. America was then opened up to many more riches to help their economy. This could also
comprise of the new land that could be used for farming of many different plants and foods. So,
not only did the territory grow so did the wealth in natural resources.
As stated before, America became one of the three largest countries because of

evidence on how this war will affect our nation and military, we have seen that if we remain neutral
we will certainly make more enemies and that will lead to trouble in our economy, our foreign
relations, and our own American moral. The Society of Royal Britains has brought forth to our
attention the the Zimmerman telegram was intercepted and stated that if we remain neutral
Germany will form an alliance with Mexico to reclaim their land which is now currently Texas. We

  • 3. Benefits Of Single-Sex Education Margaret Kierath ENGL 1101 3 December 2017 Are there benefits to students experiencing single sex education? In education there are two types of educational settings, single sex and co ed. The former is where only one gender is taught in either a school or a classroom and co ed is where both sex intertwine an learn in a classroom or school together. Single sex education helps the girls or boys learn at their own paste. Some benefits to single sex educational settings to consider are style of learning, higher education, interest s and how more independent students from singe sex schools are. Single sex education has been around for decades; however, within a coeducational setting it started rapidly growing in 2006. According to Spielhagen and Kohl, in 2006 NASSPE recorded dingle sex schools in eighteen states. Within five years the number of single sex schooling has become larger. In order to be able to have single sex education in classrooms there are three regulations. The first regulation was to make participation voluntary , second was to show that the single sex classes meet important government objectives , and third provide a comparable co educational classes in a geographically accessible location . In order for there to be single gender classes the school had to also give the option of co ed classes as well. Single sex classrooms were put in place because girls and boys tend to learn differently and take in the information differently then each other. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

During this time women were expected to marry young and have children. Consequently this meant that when the war started thousands of men were forced to abandon their jobs and fight for Australia so there were many vacancies that need to be filled and there were also many women that were looking after their children and had no income. The government started to employing women through campaigns and recruiting drives (Australian Government, 2015). Despite the India s meteoric GDP growth rate (about 9%), poverty in India is still pervasive; especially in rural areas where 70% of India s 1.2 billion population live. It is one of the fastest growing economies in the world and yet its wealth is hardly redistributed across the population. Paramedic Mental Health Nurse A Paramedic is a professional who works within the healthcare industry; they work alongside Ambulance Technicians, other Paramedics, Doctors and Nurses. When the water rises the seed pods come off of plants and float on the water, the seeds then are carried to new places. The 7th graders talked about how the monarchs are declining because of the lack of milkweed. They also talked about plants like goldenrod and poison ivy. Around the Portage River there are habitats like prairies, forests, and floodplains. Plants in the riparian zone help to filter the water before it goes into the river. I believe this parable represents a common misconception of our walk with Christ. This parable deals with individuals who are excepted to show compassion that does not and individuals who are least likely to show compassion that actually does. In this passage Jesusteaches the lawyer that everyone is his neighbor; thus meaning he should love everyone, regardless of their situation or social standard. 1. The Setting...why did Jesus tell this parable? Jesus introduced this parable to a Pharisee that was a law expert (lawyer or Scribe). The Pharisee asks Jesus what he must do to earn eternal life. Jesus then allowed the Pharisee to answer his own question by asking what the law said. The Pharisee correctly explained himself by saying love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind. ; and, Love your neighbor as yourself. The lawyer then proceeds to ask who his neighbors were. Jesus replied with The Parable of the Good Samaritan, which teaches God s law of love and how to effectively express it. 2. The Characters Character #1 Jesus was referred to specifically in this parable as a Teacher by the Pharisee. He is also considered to be the storyteller in this specific piece. • 11. History Is A Repetition Of Events History is a repetition of events: war after war, economic crisis after economic crisis, technology outdoing itself as we speak. A line of events that for centuries have been reported by the world s oldest storytellers: journalists. Yet, the future of journalism itself has never been as uncertain and unpredictable as it has been in the past decade and the role of gatekeepers of news has never been more precarious. The digital era has brought traditional journalism to the edge, forcing the industry to update its means in order to sustain the constant commercial pressure it is put under. On some level, the digital era disrupted an already easily corruptible industry, while from another perspective, it has opened new opportunities for innovation and renovation, which could mean the restoring of such criticized profession. It is inferable that the Fourth Estate , as in journalism acting as a watchdog and as provider of objective and impartial news, is in great danger. The pressure to maximise profits and the frequent censorship, both as a result of government control, and market ownership, have undermined the industry s professionalism as a whole. At the same time, new media has been claimed to be a dynamic tool to enhance democracy, as it allows citizens to bypass the traditional mainstream news media and to get access to a plurality of information coming from alternative and independent news providers and online watchdog organizations, untouched by any kind of pressure. ... • 13. Summary Of To Techers By Rabindranath Tagore Within the works of, To Techers, by Rabindranath Tagore, the reader is introduced to Tagore s personal story of why he created his school. Tagore is a man who believed that the current educational system is poisoning children s minds, due to the lack of creativity the child receives when learning from non active lectures. Tagore starts by giving his life story of when he was a child. However, He describes his schooling atmosphere as a type of prison where the only way for him to escape was to finish learning as soon as possible. Because Tagore had despised the educational system, he had created his own school, where students would learn in a natural atmosphere. To do this, he implemented dramatic performances, decorations for the different seasons, and brought in musicians to play freely amongst the school. Even Tagore had produced his own songs and writings to show his students the lively atmosphere of school. He believed that schooling should not be a prison, but a way for many to come together and understand other s in the fullest sense. Tagore had the idea of not a university, but a meeting place for students of all countries and religions to come together to find spiritual unity, or as Tagore puts it, I have in mind not merely a University, for that is only one aspect of our Visva Bharati, but the idea of a great meeting place for individuals from all countries where men who believe in spiritual unity can come in touch with their neighbors, (Tagore 44). • 15. Light And Darkness Analysis Light and Darkness In John s gospel, it talks about how light represents the good and darkness represents the evil. It also talks how the light will take over the darkness no matter what. Sometimes it hard to tell what is the light. For example, in John 3:19 21, it talks about if someone believes the darkness. Their work will be evil and nonexistent. If someone believes in the light, their work can be seen to God. It s talking about people s personality how if someone is evil or believe in the darkness. Their faith will be evil and God won t see any good of that person s faith. If someone is good or believe in the light, God will see the good things that they do for others because they have a lot of faith. Choosing Jesus or Rejecting Jesus In John 1:19 23, it talks about how John had to prove himself that he is the light. He told the Jews that he was the voice of one crying out in the desert. Some people do believe and some people don t believe him. In John 1:29 34, John didn t believe Jesus was the son of God, but he believed there was someone is ranked higher than him. He didn t think it was Jesus. Until, Jesus said he saw the Spirit coming down. Another example is in John 6:60 71, a lot of Jesus s disciples didn t accept Jesus so those disciples return back to their life. Even Jesus knew they didn t believe in him from the start. Only Simon Peter believe in Jesus because Jesus has the guidance to eternal life so he stayed with Jesus. Physical Life vs. Spiritual Life It ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A Brief Note On Deforestation And Charcoal Production Mahdi 8 Deforestation and Charcoal Production in Somalia Mahdi Haile DPP 911.01: Environ Factors in Development Practice Kalle Matso July 30, 2015 INTRODUCTION According to the information thrown from the course reveals that over the past 30 years, assessments of the woodfuel situation in developing countries, have changed substantially. In the mid 1970s, recognition that huge and growing numbers of people depended on fuelwood as their principal domestic fuel led to predictions of potentially devastating depletion of forest resources, with serious negative livelihood consequences for the rural poor, unless action was taken to address this ??fuelwood crisis? (Arnold,J.E, and Gunnar Hlin 2006). Charcoal consumption is often growing faster than fuelwood consumption. Though still less relative to fuelwood in most of Asia, charcoal use is becoming a much larger part of the woodfuels total in Africa and South America. In Africa, the aggregate of consumption of fuelwood and wood for charcoal is growing at a rate close to that of population growth. The overall quantities involved, and the numbers still relying on woodfuels continue to be very large. The International Energy Agency recently estimated that, although shifts to other sources of energy could be expected to substantially reduce the share of these fuels by 2030, biomass energy will still account for an mated three quarters of total residential energy in Africa in that year, and that the ... The World War I, The Australian Home Front During World War I, the Australian home front was impacted by a long and varying list of occurrences during the period of time between the years of 1914 to 1918. The home front was influenced politically through the arguments over the conscription vote and as Australia became divided between the different war beliefs. It was also influenced by social change, as the use of censorship drastically altered the Australians views of war and women began to pick up odd jobs in order to assist the soldiers as very few of them were allowed to directly help as nurses in Gallipoli. There were also extreme economic alterations as the wages in Australiawere pushed down and prices were pushed up, and the country discarded major trade partners who had become their enemy. *** The Australian home front during WWI was drastically altered politically through the conscription vote that Billy Hughes, Prime Minister of Australia, believed necessary. 50,000 Australian men had signed up for the war before the year of 1914 had come to an end which was a rate of over 10,000 per month but the enlistment numbers dropped way down to 6,000 for the month of the Gallipoli landing in 1915. Once again, however, the numbers rose sharply on the home front after the news of the landing came back home, as many wished to avenge their fallen countrymen, and nobody could question the solemnity of the conflict. Mental Health And Substance Abuse Disorders Introduction Policy makers and researchers have paid attention to behavioral health problems due to significant burden of morbidity and disability, as well as health care cost. The term behavioral health refers to a state of mental or emotional being and choices and actions that affect wellness. It encompasses both mental health and substance use, including such as depression, substance abuse or misuse, serious psychological distress, and suicide (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, 2011). Many of society s rules were constructed during the Puritan times to properly establish a governing body and it is important to examine how these concepts of society have changed and the importance of establishing them in the first place. Looking through the lenses of three different perspectives, over 300 years, it is easy to tell which of society s rules have changed the most. The major objective of the government fiscal policy was to restrict the growth of current expenditure to a level below the growth of the nominal GDP, thereby making more resources available to support annual development programme (ADP) undertaken in each year. In line with the Enhanced Structural Adjustment Facility (ESAF) of the IMF, a number of reforms were initiated, the most important of which was the introduction of value added tax (VAT) in July 1991. VAT was introduced at a uniform rate of 15% at the manufacturing cum import level. Together with protection neutral supplementary duties, this system largely replaced the earlier structure of differentiated sales tax on import and excise duties on domestic goods. In case of personal income tax, the major reforms involved the inclusion of entertainment allowances in the personal income tax base, deduction of investment in approved assets from the tax base, and an introduction of a withholding tax on dividend with limitation of special expenditure within a reasonable limit. Steps were taken to reduce interest rates on government savings instruments and subsidies for food and jute. Study Design: Case Control Study Title: Presence of increased stiffness of the common carotid artery and endothelial dysfunction in severely obese children: A prospective study Journal: The Lancet Numerous epidemiological studies infer that cardiovascular complications have a directly proportional relationship with obesity in children. The study I chose however, has gone deeper by observing arterial changes as well as its relationship to cardiovascular risk in children who are obese. One of the reasons this study design was chosen by the author comes from a 55 year cohort study which evaluated the morbidity and mortality from cardiovascular diseases in adults who were overweight in their adolescent years. The study showed that of the adults evaluated, the adults with obesity in their adolescent years had an increased risk of morbidity and mortality from cardio vascular disease, regardless of their weight classification as an adult. What these studies did not observe however, were the pathological changes that take place in the cardiovascular system, and even more specifically how obesity associated artherogenesis develops during the adolescent years. Fortunately, with the development of new technology, different echo tracking procedures could be used to observe the pathological function of the carotid and brachial arteries and children. These new echo tracking techniques are noninvasive and can be used to determine if overweight children show early pathological ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The remains of this empire can still be seen today. The empire was filled with advanced people and technology for its time. The Roman Empire has rich history, helpful geography and resources, provinces, an advanced government, and unique people and culture. Ancient Rome can be divided into three main parts. The Roman Monarchy, the Roman Republic, and the Roman Empire. The Romans believed that a man named Romulus founded the city of Rome . The legend is that Romulus and his twin brother Remus were cast away in a basket on the Tiber river. A she wolf found them and gave the twins her milk. The farmer and his wife, owners of the she wolf, found the twins and raised them from there. Later in an argument, Romulus killed Remus and then founded the city of Rome on April 21,753 B.C. Historians still do not know how much of this legend is true or if it is true at all. Either way, Rome is named after Romulus. The Roman Republic moved on to the Roman Empire because of a man named Julius Caesar. Julius Caesar was a cunning politician who centralized government around himself. The people of the Roman Republic feared that Caesar would make himself king and end the republic. Due to this fear, Julius Caesar was stabbed to his death outside of the senate building on the Ides of March on March 15, 44 B.C. The concept of one man ruling continued with Julius Caesar s ... What Is The Powerful Message In Ayn Rand s Atlas Shrugged The Powerful Message of Ayn Rand s Atlas Shrugged Capitalism, according to John Galt, is mutual trade to mutual advantage, (Rand Atlas Shrugged 989) or as Adam Smith put it: [trade] by mutual consent and to mutual advantage. In true capitalism, the economy is strictly separated from the state, just as there is a separation between church and state in the USA. This basic tenet of capitalism describes the only economic system that can be morally justifiable. In essence, capitalism is the only economic system that is compatible with individual freedom. In every other form of economy, a person is, in one way or another, a slave to the non entity known as the public good. In the anti capitalist society of Atlas Shrugged, the Hank Reardens and the Dagny Taggarts of the world are constantly at the mercy of the government s whims and fancies because, whenever it deems that the public good is threatened, the government can justify any action towards them. Points one and two of Directive 10 289 where workers must stay where they work and businesses must stay in operation clearly illustrate how an anti capitalist economy can literally enslave its people In the name of general welfare (Rand Atlas Shrugged 505). The right to life is the most important freedom an individual can have, and capitalism is the only system that is consistent with this right. Since man has to sustain his life by his own effort, the man who has no right to the product of his effort has no means to sustain his life (Rand Man s Rights 288). It was visiting Auckland before leading a protest in Mururoa Atoll against the French nuclear testing in the South Pacific. The Rainbow Warrior was hit trying to neutralise the ship ahead of its planned protest, French agents had worn diving gear and they had placed two packets of plastic wrapped explosives to it, one by the propeller, one to the outer wall of the engine room. The two explosions sunk the Rainbow Warrior and shock the harbour. That night on the Rainbow Warrior, there had been a birthday celebration, people on board the vessel for this celebration was several crew members and some locals. At around 11.30 at night, members had been asleep in their cabins, while the others had either left the ship or were up talking over strategies and plans. Underwater charges had been placed on her hull by French agents who dived underwater, blowing two holes in the ship. The Rainbow Warrior had sunk almost immediately. The crew all managed to escape, except a photographer named Fernando Pereira, who drowned with the boat. The government chose to respond to peaceful protest with deadly force ... • 44. Comparing Araby and Genesis Essay Parallels between Araby and Genesis In the Bible, the story of creation occurs in the garden of Eden. The book of Genesis tells the tale of Adam and Eve, whom God allowed to eat the fruit from any tree in the garden except for that of the central tree of knowledge. Unfortunately, with the serpent s deceitful encouragement, Eve enticed Adam to eat from that banned tree. The fruit opened Adam s eyes to the reality that he was naked (Gen. 3:7 20). Interestingly, the second paragraph of Araby alludes to the Genesis account of Eden. The wild garden behind the house contained a central apple tree and a few straggling bushes. Aside from commenting on the eroded isle of Ireland, Joyce uses this allusion to arrange the entire ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Later the narrator tells of how he follows her to school and how he thinks about her constantly, much like an adolescent in love would do. This feeling is not foreign to any reader; during the youth of our lives, we too have desired someone at a point beyond normality. Adam, the narrator, is obviously infatuated with Mangan s sister. Similar to what an adolescent would do, the narrator trusts his love and will do anything for her. Such is the case when discussing Araby, a bazaar. As she cannot attend due to a prior engagement, the narrator agrees to get her something if he goes. Thus, the narrator offers to do something beyond what he would normally do. Since the first mention of Araby is the narrator s conversation with Mangan s sister, the bazaar apparently is neither a normal nor an extraordinarily popular event. Coupled with the aunt s surprise at the narrator s desire to visit the bazaar, a reader receives the feeling that the narrator would not have otherwise gone to Araby. Eve has shown Adam the fruit, and Adam is weighing its opportunities. Without desire for schoolwork and little more for play, the narrator had hardly any patience with the serious work of life, which...seemed to [him] child s play, ugly monotonous child s play. Clearly, the narrator is enthralled by Araby. The Eastern connotation to the word offers ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Assembly Line Olympics of History Assembly Line Olympics of History Assembly lines are a big part of manufacturing in almost every country in the world. Some work better than others, so an analytical breakdown would be required to be able to tell which factories and countries are more effective than others, and what they do to get that way. The function of organized work and division of labor has been around since ancient times. On the timeline of organized work, the closer one gets to modern day, the more organized labor becomes, and the more labor gets divided. It started with the three basic job groups, food, child care, and shelter (Kranzberg, 1). Then, in places such as Greece, Rome, Egypt, and Mesopotamia, labor was divided up by social classes. The rulers and nobility were the ones overseeing the work and directing the economy, (Hannan, 2), while the priests held knowledge of writing, reading, math, and the more scholarly subjects. Next down the line were clerks and scribes, (Kranzberg, 2), and then merchants and traders underneath them who bought and sold goods. Then there were peasants, slaves, and lastly prisoners of war who were forced to work. We can see some similarities of this ancient hierarchy in modern day. The social/working pecking order of ancient times hasn t faded. We have the government officials, the politicians, the doctors lawyers, the modern merchants and salesmen, the working class, and even convicts who work to earn credit or are even forced to work. ... • 46. If You Ain T First, It s The Only Thing Analysis It was in 1955, in a Sports Illustrated article just before the 1956 Rose Bowl, that Vince Lombardi was quoted saying, Sure, winning isn t everything; it s the only thing. Or maybe one can recall the 2006 film in which Will Ferrell s character Ricky Bobby, a NASCAR superstar, can be heard saying, If you ain t first, you re last. These two quotes are just a couple of prime examples when it comes to understanding the value of competition in our American culture. There is an assumption that only those who win can and will be successful. Understanding that the United States is a place that is supposedly ONE nation under God, yet is so driven by the assumption that you must always win at everything, begs the question; what is the significance... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It can be noted in an article from 2016 in Psychology Today, that for decades, psychologists noticed something ironic among top athletic competitors. Setting aside those who were clearly happy having won first place, and looking at those who society would call losers (second and third), it was more often than not, those who came away with bronze medals appeared more accomplished and happier than those who won silver. The significance in this can be seen through a greater appreciation from those who barely won than from those who completely out performed their competition or fell somewhere in the middle. An article from the Huffington Post furthers this idea of happiness and winning. The article references research done for the Journal of Experimental Social Psychology, in which they were researching this exact topic. The researchers wrote, Happy people savor little things that occur frequently, and unhappy people strive for intense experiences that rarely occur. Their study provides evidence that a difference in attitude greatly shapes how our culture views and understands ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Succinate Dehydrogenase The experiment aimed to determine the effectiveness of differential centrifugation and tissue homogenisation methods of separating and purifying subcellular organelles from liver tissue. Effectiveness was determined by assaying for the activity of marker enzymes specific to organelles in each fraction and calculating the specific activities and percentage distribution of each enzyme in each fraction (Watson, 2016). The first enzyme marker used was Succinate Dehydrogenase which catalyses the oxidation of succinate to fumarate in the tricarboxylic acid cycle (Hollywood, et al., 2010). This cycle occurs within mitochondria and succinate dehydrogenase is specifically found within the inner mitochondrial membrane. Therefore, succinate dehydrogenase activity is an indicator of mitochondrial activity (Berg, et al., 2007). Mitochondria are large organelles, approximately 0.5 1пЃm in diameter and 5 10пЃm in length with a high ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The heavy membrane fraction had the highest percentage distribution (93.236 %) of succinate dehydrogenase, indicating good separation of the mitochondria into their predicted fraction and the success of differential centrifugation as a method of separation. A small percentage of succinate dehydrogenase was also found in the light membrane and cytosolic fractions: 6.131 % and 0.633 % respectively. The activity in these two fractions could be due to excessive homogenisation causing fragmentation of mitochondria into small low density fragments. The lower density meant they achieved sedimentation at higher centrifugal forces than expected resulting in separation into the light membrane or cytosol fraction (Claude, 1946). Additionally, mitochondrial activity could be present in the light membrane fraction due to disruption of the heavy membrane pellet during transfer of the supernatant, causing the pellet to contaminate the ... Macon still feels that he might in some way be responsible for his son s death. Sarah tries to convince him that he is not. She does not support his career, which to her seems boring and pointless. Sarah is comforting for Macon. They have been together for a long time and have a history together. She, at times, can be just what Macon needs to feel comfortable. Even though he preaches that you don t need to be home to feel home, he contradicts himself in that aspect. Although Macon himself feels that he has trouble showing emotion, he doesn t see anything wrong with the way he acts. He may disagree with Sarah on many fundamental levels such as this, but he feels that if he were to leave Sarah, he would in some ways be leaving his son s legacy behind. But when he meets Muriel Pritchett, things change. Muriel has a son named Alexander who is about the age Macon s son was when he died. This automatically makes Macon more drawn toward Muriel. He hadn t known she had a little boy. He felt some inner click of adjustment; she was a slightly different person from the one he d imagined (111). Murphy s law only makes that uncertainty destined for disaster where anything can go wrong, will undoubtedly go wrong. The United States has placed itself under the mercy of Murphy s law, not because of Trump s threats of war with North Korea, but because it has no safe way of disposing of its nuclear waste. Radiation is a silent killer; if exposed into the environment it could lead to genetic mutations, cancer, and if long enough, premature death. Furthermore, radioactive material can work its way up from the environment to animals, to humans up the food chain nowhere near the site of exposure. We have been complacent in finding a permanent solution to nuclear waste... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... That one percent of waste can be devastating to any ecosystem it is exposed to. Radiation is invisible, it has no scent, it cannot be cleaned by soap, and it should be of concern as much as any disease or virus. The scientific community unanimously agrees that exposure to high levels of radiation is a health hazard. Many people feel unconcerned because they feel it s not a relevant problem in their lives. However, there are over 71,000 tons of nuclear waste simple in temporary storage at the U.S. s 104 nuclear reactors (Oliver). Nearly one out of three Americans live within a 50 mile radius of a reactor filled with waste (Oliver). Still many are skeptical remaining ignorant of the potential dangers of radiation exposure. The severity of the damage to a person s heath due to radiation is based on how much radiation and how long they were exposed to the amounts of radiation. The amount of radiation a person receives is measured in rem and depending on that the health effects could range from no observable health effects, to cancer, to even death (Effects of Radiation). Even a fraction of the amount of radiation to kill a person could cause nausea, fatigue, vomiting, loss of appetite, loss of hair and abnormalities in blood cells (Effects of Radiation). Nuclear waste from a typical fuel rod will still have 2,000 times more rem than the required dosage to kill a person even after 10 years (USNRC).
