Web 2.0, Web 3.0 and User
Participation in the Web
By: Rona Louise Quitoriano
Jadey Joy Llerin
Web 1.0
The user is limited to viewing
the website.
Web 2.0
It is an internet technology
and application that allows
user participation,
colllaboration, interaction,
content creation and and
involvement in the virtual
community.
Web 2.0
Websites were created using
dynamic programming languages
that makes the user part of their
creation, expression and
development of their own digital
space.
Web 2.0
Specifically, the user can share
videos and photos, create a blog
site, participate in wikis,
communicate with others, react and
comment to authors and at the
same time consume and view
internet content shared by others.
Useful Web 2.0 Tools
•Weblogs
•Wikis
•Real Simple Syndication (RSS)
•Aggregators
•Social Bookmarking and Networking
•Online Photo Galleries
• Audio/Video Casting
Weblogs
•Easily created/updated sites.
•Publish instantly from any internet
connection.
•Interactive - comment, question,
link, converse.
Wikis
•Collaborative page.
•Anyone can add or edit content.
•Wikipedia - friend or foe?
•Wikispaces
Real Simple Syndication
•Subscribe to “feeds” from your
favorite sites.
•New information is sent to you.
•Reduces research time.
Aggregators
•Collects and organizes the content
you subscribe to with an RSS feed.
Social Bookmarking
•Save web addresses of useful
content.
•Share and search bookmarks.
•Generate specific resource lists.
Social Networking
•Facebook, Twitter
•LinkedIn.com
•Collaborate, bookmark, share,
etc.
Online Photo Galleries
•Publish photos online.
•Comment, and share ideas.
•Create photo stories and
presentations.
Audio/Video Casting
•Produce audio and video
recordings.
•Publish them easily to the web.
•Creates a world-wide audience.
Web 3.0
WEB 3.0
It is the next development of the web;
with all the information, user
generated content and contributions,
it has created a vast resource to tap
and use for the benefit of the user.
Web 3.0
It utilizes the web content as
created and contributed by the
user into useful information as
needed by the user.
Web 3.0
Is reffered to as data driven and
semantic web that are used by
the web services to meet the
needs of the user.
Web 3.0
For example, if the user is searching for
airlines to travel from Manila to New
York, some sites will send ads of the
cheapest possible fare, length of travel,
the number of stops, and other
pertinent information for the benefit
of the user.
Web 3.0 definition:
5 main features
• Semantic Web
• Artificial Intelligence
•3D Graphics
•Connectivity
•Ubiquity
Semantic Web
•The next evolution of the Web involves
the Semantic Web. The semantic web
improves web technologies in order to
generate, share and connect content
through search and analysis based on
the ability to understand the meaning
of words, rather than on keywords or
numbers.
Artificial Intelligence
•Combining this capability with
natural language processing, in Web
3.0, computers can understand
information like humans in order to
provide faster and more relevant
results. They become more
intelligent to satisfy the needs of
users.
3D Graphics
•The three dimensional design is
being used extensively in websites
and services in Web 3.0. Museum
guides, computer games,
ecommerce, geospatial contexts,
etc. are all examples that use 3D
graphics
Connectivity
•With Web 3.0, information is
more connected thanks to
semantic metadata. As a result,
the user experience evolves to
another level of connectivity that
leverages all the available
information.
Ubiquity
•Content is accessible by multiple
applications, every device is
connected to the web, the
services can be used everywhere
How Web 3.0 can change
our lives?
These features bring us closer to a
Web 3.0 definition. Now, let’s look
at an example that brings these 5
features together.
In Web 3.0, while you are driving, you can
simply ask your automotive assistant a question
(“I would like to watch a romantic movie and
eat Japanese food”). The search engine
embedded in the car assistant provides you
with a personalized response that takes into
account your location, suggesting the closest
cinema that matches your request and a good
Japanese restaurant by automatically
consulting the reviews on social media. Then it
might even present a 3D menu from the
restaurant in the display.
THANKYOU!
