The Great Divide of the e-World Web 2.0
What is Web 2.0? My Definition : Web 2.0 is an open source for all netizens to exercise their democratic rights without misuse. Web 2.0 – Preamble    “ We, the people of e-space, having solemnly resolved to constitute the cyber world into sovereign, secular, democratic, republic, and to secure to all its netizens.”
In plain, web 2.0 is a neitzens/Internet users driven world. It has following features: Features of Web 2.0 Network as platform User driven/controlled contents A rich, interactive, user-friendly interface based on AJAX technology Social networking Aspects 1:1 Connection Between Mobile and Website
Any website based on web 2.0 concept has lots of scope for users. In short, democracy is the main feature of web 2.0. “ For the People Of the People And By the People”

Web 2.0 Implies Netizen Journalism (Citizen Journalism) – An Alert Sign for Print & TV Journalism : Reasons: As web 2.0 popularizes Neitizen journalism and more people are becoming ‘public writers’, there is a fear that journalism as a distinct profession is becoming harder and harder to sustain. The boundaries between 'professional' and 'amateur' performance are breaking down. Until web 1.0, Internet was more or less treated like print media in digital form. But the technological advancement has made it possible to unleash the full potential of the Internet. Today, Internet is recognized as the most powerful medium, even more powerful than newspapers and TVs. According to a study, majority of youngsters surf Internet for a long time than sitting silently in front of the ‘Idiot Box’.
Internet is one stop place for both motion pictures (TV) and literary texts (Newspapers) Internet offers a place for 1:1 interactions Internet Today offers lots of spaces for users’ to participate (web 2.0) In short, Internet serves everything you wish for! Why? Under these circumstances, one can never undermine the scope of Internet at time when the wave of web 2.0 is floating across. It’s high time to recognize the potential of Internet as important media, which seems to be dominating print and visual media (TVs). While TVs continue to grow at their own pace, print media (newspapers, magazines, etc.) may likely to face a tougher challenge from Internet.
Survival of the Best Fittest in Web 2.0 There are billions of websites competing with each other. If anyone wants to survive ahead of their competitors, they have to keep a good pace with the technological changes. Any website with old rules of web 1.0 business model can’t struggle to survive under new rules of web 2.0.    So, all of us offering online services to various targeted audiences have to accept the realm of fast changing IT world to capitalize the returns. Relying solely on the old model of online business may nullify our hardcore approach to make our site successful.
Is Web 2.0 Myth or Reality? Web 2.0 is a realm of today’s Cyber world. Let’s look at the trends!
Nielson/NetRatings has issued a study showing that the top 10 social networking sites saw traffic grow 47% over the last year, with MySpace seeing the biggest growth (367% increase) and MSN Spaces (286%) seeing the biggest growth.

Web 2.0 SEM Spending budget in SEM is worth so long as it attracts more unique visitors through search engines. Internet advertising in India is fast moving from flashy boxes and sponsored links to the new buzzword: search-engine marketing. In 2005, total online ad expenditures in India exceeded Rs4 billion   ($88 million), of which Rs2.36 billion was SEM, out of which Rs720 million was spent by companies in India, and the rest from enterprises abroad. According to an industry study by the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI), Industry wide, the biggest SEM spenders are retail companies, followed by technology, travel and the automotive and banking industries, with non-governmental organizations and property markets also advertising.
Why We Can’t Ignore Spending on SEM? Those who are into online business wanting to increase the web traffic through search engines should keep their eyes open to study the trends. Otherwise, they’ll be lagging behind.    Furthermore, the old rules of web1.0 SEO hold less importance in the new web 2.0 world. In a fast changing behavior of search engines, the role of SEM consultant/SEO firm should be to keep a good track of the current trends and accordingly suggest the changes required to be implemented to drive more traffic.
Let’s have a look at the following table – I have drawn according to my level of understanding . Web1.0 SEO    Web2.0 SEO    Page views Reciprocal Links Keyword rich contents Meta tags SE submission Directory submission HTML optimization Reliability on Search engine PR Personal sites Double Click Accessibility Book marking/del.cio.ous/dig/BLs Interactive Content/user generated content Title & Description Emphasized Optional (Can or can’t) Automatic Crawling by Spider AJAX optimization Users’ PR (public relation)/network Wikis/Blogs PPC
Web 1.0 Growth Vs Web 2.0 Growth (of web sites) A Few Samples : Kodakgallery vs Photobucket Encarta vs wikipedia Geocity vs Myspace Tech2 vs CIOL Let’s Show the Comparisons Graphically
The applications used to upload, share and now tag photos have changed dramatically over the past year. Data gathered by Hitwise demonstrate the radical growth of a decidedly Web 2.0 socially integrated photo service such as Photobucket diverging from the stagnant market share of a “traditional” online photo site like Kodakgallery.
The Wikipedia entry on Web 2.0 is, of course, one of the richest sources of information on the term. MSN’s free online version of the Encarta Encyclopedia, in comparison, doesn’t yet have a Web 2.0 entry.

Analyzing the above trends, we can say “Whether we call the current world 2.0 or 10.0, there is no question that Internet of Today will positively beta to future generation.”
