Planimetrics is the study of plane measurements, such as the locations and distances of objects and buildings from one another, their incident angles, as well as relevant areas and perimeters of these objects. These types of maps are viewed from a top-down perspective, as if viewed from the air. It shows things such roads, rivers and lakes, building footprints, and other relevant landmarks. The planimetric map does not usually show elevation, though this can be done by contour lines if so desired.

Chapter: 3 (Earth-Sun Geometry and Seasons)
The planet Earth experiences four seasons, those of spring, summer, fall and winter. The start of winter and summer are noted by the occurrence of the winter and summer solstices, respectively, while the start of spring and fall are marked by the vernal and autumnal equinoxes. The Northern and Southern hemispheres experience opposite seasons, but for the Northern Hemisphere, the processions of seasons is as follows: winter begins when the sun is directly over the tropic of Capricorn, and the sun is at its lowest in the northern sky. This also results in the longest night of the year From here, the Earth begins to tilt so that the sun moves closer to the center of the northern sky. The vernal equinox is when the sun is directly over the equator, and the length of day and night are about equivalent. The sun moves farther towards the center of the northern sky, until the summer equinox, where the sun is over the tropic of Cancer, or otherwise farthest to the center of the sky. This day has the longest amount of sunlight. From here, the sun moves back down towards the tropic of Capricorn, and the autumnal equinox occurs when the sun is back over the equator.

Meteorologists are experts who study the weather and predict future conditions using models of the atmosphere. Weather refers to conditions of the air like temperature, moisture, and wind speed. It is influenced by heat from the sun and the water cycle. As air warms, water evaporates and the air rises, cooling and forming clouds. Clouds may hold moisture and eventually fall as precipitation. Many traditional signs can also provide clues about upcoming weather conditions, like the color of the sky, direction of wind, behavior of animals, and shape of clouds and smoke. Developing an intuitive sense of air pressure changes in an area allows homemade forecasts.

- 2. Weather A cloud is water vapor that condenses out of the atmosphere. When this happens it produces a cloud.

- 4. Weather There are four different basic types of clouds. 4 The clouds are: Cumulus Stratus Cirrus Lenticular
- 5. Cumulus cloud This is a cumulus cloud. They are named for the 4 Latin word cumulus it means ‘’a pile.’’
- 6. Cirrus cloud This is a cirrus cloud. Cirrus in the Latin word for ‘’wisp 4 or curl.’’
- 7. Lenticular cloud This is a Lenticular cloud. Lenticular means lens-shaped. 4 Because of the clouds natural oval shape.
- 8. Stratus cloud Stratus clouds look like this. Stratus means ‘’ layer ‘’ in 4 Latin.
- 9. Weather Dark stratus clouds are 5 usually storm clouds. The fancy word for dark stratus clouds is nimbostratus. You mostly see nimbostratus clouds before a thunder storm.
- 10. Weather If you find a Lenticular cloud that is higher in 6 the sky then normal it is probably because it has more air in it then it should and the wind has pushed it up. What does isolation mean? Well, it’s earths 7 distance from the sun and it also has to do with the earths axial tilt. The axial tilt is at 23.5. The axial tilt is what helps make the seasons change.
- 11. Weather Do you know the difference between 2 weather and climate? Weather is what it looks like outside right now. Is it rainy? Or is it sunny? Is it hot? Or is it cold? Climate is what your state is like. If 13 you live in a state like Florida that is mostly hot and humid, then that is what your climate is.
- 12. Weather Three main factors that affect earth’s weather is 3 solar radiation, moister, and air pressure. Solar radiation is a fancy word for sunlight. Sunlight helps warm the earth. It warms the ground before it warms the water.
- 13. Weather: Quick Question What causes wind? Wind is caused by air that 11. flows from high pressure back down to low pressure.
- 14. Weather Weather A weather reporter is someone who Reporters predicts the weather forecast for about four or five days in advance. So you can plan your activities accordingly.
- 15. Weather Report This is somewhat like what your weather man might show you. You can see the future weather forecast so you know how to plan your week.
- 16. Weather If you viewed the previous page you saw what the forecast was. The forecast helps you plan your week. Sunday might not be a good day to do any outdoor activities.
- 17. Weather Weather is very unpredictable. Its always changing. Maybe you could watch the weather report tonight and learn what the weather will be like at your house tomorrow, what the temp will be, and even what the wind speed Is.
