Climate Impact of Software Testing at Nordic Testing DaysKari Kakkonen
My slides at Nordic Testing Days 6.6.2024
Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

What is NFC?
Difference is in proximity, security, user intent
Main message: NFC is the ideal technology for wearables because of its ubiquity and flexibility.
NFC is not just for wearables . . . It is becoming part everyday living. Note sneaker in image above. Imagine a world where a single wearable allows for payment, access, identity, connectivity to transportation or the home . . . We are almost there today!
245 million wearables will be sold in 2019¹ -- in 2015 there were 84 billion wearable devices sold, in 2019 there will be 245 million sold – this shows that not only are more people buying wearables, but more wearables implementing NFC are being made – wearables with NFC (especially watches) are becoming a staple item for consumers
2 billion NFC-enabled devices – a quarter of the world’s population has access to NFC through their smart phone

The four areas the NFC Forum sees the fastest growth for wearables mirror our SIGs.
Transport: wearables to provide identification and gate access.
Retail and Payment: wearables to pay for purchases.
Automotive: wearables to start your car and access various onboard NFC-enabled features like payment at the gas pump.
IoT: I find this to be the most interesting wearable market as NFC has an important role to play in the commissioning, connecting and control of a wide variety of IoT devices from Smart Homes to industrial and healthcare applications.
Authentication & anti-counterfeiting. With NFC and mobile authentication services, consumers can be certain they’re buying genuine jewelry, watches, handbags, and other valuable products.
Context-sensitive digital content. NFC can provide digital content and services related to wearables, based on real-time shopping needs, to motivate on-the-spot sales, or even information more directly related to the wearable. Recommendations for other items that complement the outfit or product can also create cross-selling opportunities.
After-sales service. NFC can enhance the user experience eve after the purchase by tapping to a tag on a wearable. Access to customer care, exclusive brand applications, and tools are convenient to the customer, and even the store by providing personalized rewards that help foster brand loyalty and repurchases.
Customer intelligence. By tapping a wearable like smart watch or bracelet to a piece of machinery at the gym, customers can become more informed about their workout seamlessly and more accurately.
Tap a smartphone to the tag at the bottom of the jersey to connect to the jersey’s player and team
Tap the jersey for exclusive offers and videos:

Stay connected by tapping your jersey on game day to win more exclusive offers:
The NikeConnect app will keep track of your history and rewards
Tap your smartphone and retrieve the UV data the sensor has collected:
How long you've been outside
A “score” that says whether you're spending too much time in the sun
Tracks how much time users spend in the sun without being overbearing
Comes with replaceable nail adhesives
Snap it onto other items, like a watch or sunglasses
Suggests L’Oréal products and general advice about skincare and sun protection
Tap the watch to a reader to pay
Install credit and debit cards so they are accessible right from the user’s wrist
Replace keycards and transit tickets
Tap the watch instead of using paper plane or train tickets and even hotel keycards
Pair directly to treadmills, ellipticals, indoor bikes or stair steppers from global manufacturers
For the first time, data from the machinery at the gym can be transferred seamlessly
Track calories, distance, speed, floors climbed, incline and pace
